It's ghosts
Wednesday, 01 March 2006 00:31:37

I just read the "Dead or Alive" script. Maybe I shouldn't have. :( Look what River sings, at the fair: "And the beautiful princess every night prayed for her handsome prince... ... to fight through the terrible ivy of thorns and climb up to her room and slay all the wicked, evil demons... And then the beautiful princess got tired of waiting for her handsome prince and tried to escape, but they found her and to punish her they locked her in a smelly, white, cold room where the evil blue demons strapped electrodes to her face and started to shock her. Zap, zap, zap, until she couldn't stop screaming. Only no one could hear." I know, I'm supposed to say something really inspirational now, make it all better. I could say how River stretches out her arms to a little lost girl; and how she finally holds and hugs that child; and how beautiful that is. But I'm not going to. :( What they did to River was sooooo wrong. :( *tears* So alone! So isolated! You all know how much I Love my precious River! And if there's any hope to be found in the story, I'm usually the first to point it out. But tonight I feel the best way for me to Love River, is to respect her suffering in full; undiluted, and unmitigated: the raw footage. :( River as River is. I'm so near my River, right now. *cry* Standing right next to her, in fact, in Dr. Mathias lab. And I'm trying to contain my tears; unsuccessfully. :( But what matter, she cannot see me, anyway. I'm like a ghost. And I gently rest my hand on her shoulder, but she knows it not. And I have no response to her screaming anyway, except to whisper the most comforting thing I can think of now: "Little one, I hear you! I hear you."

My Firefly "Quickening"
Wednesday, 01 March 2006 00:37:03

As most of my friends will tell you, I am the Couch-Potato Incarnate. My life revolves around movies, television, and books...especially the television shows I love, some more than others. The "some" I speak of usually become obsessions. Well folks, the short-lived, 2002 series "Firefly" has become my latest obsession. When the show aired on FOX in 2002, I vaguely remember catching the first episode, but I'm not sure why I didn't get hooked. It might have been because I picked up on the "Western" feel of the show, and I typically don't care for the Western genre. I know now that had the idiots at FOX aired the original two-hour pilot, I would have been eased into the whole western thing and probably wouldn't have given it a second thought. This new obsession began recently when I rented the movie "Serenity" from my local Blockbuster store(which, by the way, had a pathetic amount of shelf space allocated for the movie...it took me three weeks to finally get my hands on a copy). Even though I'm a fan of Joss Whedon's work (Buffy, Angel), I really didn't have any expectations about "Serenity". No-to-low expectation movies usually turn out to be among my favorites, some, like "Serenity", ignite the obsessive-compulsive in me and I completely immerse myself in the obsession. I've dubbed this latest obsession the "Browncoat Quickening"...those familiar with the "Highlander" universe will understand the metaphor. After watching Serenity, I immediately became hooked on the Firefly universe (or 'Verse). The next day, Serenity and the Firefly DVD set joined my DVD library, and the "Browncoat Quickening" began. My head was shaking in disbelief when I finished the original 2-hour pilot (also titled "Serenity"), followed immediately by the pilot that FOX chose to air("The Train Job"). What a complete and unmitigated job of sabotage by the knuckleheads at FOX, the same knuckleheads who cancelled great shows like "Brimstone", "John Doe", "Strange Luck", and ironically, "Dark Angel", whose Season Two FOX sabotaged, cancelled, and replaced with "Firefly". The "Train Job" wasn't a bad episode, but it was an ineffective PILOT episode that rushed to introduce the characters and the Firefly 'Verse...and as I mentioned earlier, stressed the Western-genre flavor of the show before FIRST establishing the character-driven & naturalistic science fiction aspects that are essential for understanding and "getting" the show. Firefly was doomed from the start. Anyway, following the head-shaking, disbelief, and explicatives, I devoured the remaining Firefly episodes in about a day and a half, then re-watched the movie Serenity with a whole new appreciation...not just for the great movie, but the fact that the movie was even made. And the "Quickening" continues...I've sought out every online Firefly resource, bought the comic book, the collection of Firefly essays, the visual companion, and the Serenity soundtrack. I am completely hooked and can say without a shred of doubt: Firefly was the best damn television show EVER made, period.

Premiere Magazine Rant...of sorts
Wednesday, 01 March 2006 02:33:17

Has anyone else seen Nathan in this months Premiere magazine? I know some other helpful browncoaty person gave me a heads up. The article was a really nice little blurb, but I was so dissapointed by the picture. I was hoping for something I could put up on my wall. He looked like Nathan, don't misunderstand. But his head, and most of his face was covered. Yeah, he had too many articles of clothing on, but ya know. That was to be expected. I donno. Just wondered what other peoples opinions are...

another 24
Wednesday, 01 March 2006 04:24:23

watching 24 i chuckled when one of the ctu people used a fake name to get a sevretary out of the way... she said she was jane espinson. "my husband was like who is that" i was like "a writer on ff!" usually he catches things like that. in other news i have been promoted at my job again. = more headaches. better news into geocaching and found some gitd dino skeletons that reminded me of wash, i look forward to finding a good cache to leave them in.

It's all FollowMal's fault
Wednesday, 01 March 2006 05:01:29

She made me do it. I promised her fanfic. Now I've gone and done it. It's begun. That deadly cycle of writing, being a slave to the typed word. Curse you and your wily ways woman! Curse you! Curse you! Wait a second. I can make Mal do whatever I want him to do. ...this might not be so bad after all...

Let me just start off with... DAMN HICK UPS!!! I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU!!! *ahem... Now that I have the outta my system - any suggestions on how to get rid of them? I've been holding my breath ALL day... well not literally but I thought I got rid of the buggers... guess again! In my job, I'm on the phone constantly (and though I don't get embarrassed easily, cos I'm like the person that does stuff to lighten everyones mood - even if that does mean get laughed at) it's kinda irr*rrrrup*ating

Thankyou Browncoats
Wednesday, 01 March 2006 10:10:52

Well this is my first blog. I just recently joined here and just wanted to say thanks for the welcome. Browncoats are without the best fans in the 'verse and this site has the best Looking forward to your posts and hope to help you bring Firefly back.

I Bruise Easily
Wednesday, 01 March 2006 14:04:27

Kayna gave me such beautiful gift, the other day. And I still do not think she realizes how I'm still buzzing from the beauty of it. :) You know, earlier I blogged that it only takes a few seconds to open profound wounds in people. But, conversely, it only takes the slightest touch to reach out to a person and heal them in ways you never expected. Anyone who can touch you, can hurt you or heal you. Which is why I bruise easily. And which is also why my heart stays always open: to allow for people to touch me in ways that can heal me. River can, on occasion, unsettle me profoundly. But in a good way; in a way that allows me to connect to humanity, chaff and grain together. And like the Natasha Bedingfield song (yes, I had a life before the 'verse), I practise in staying vulnerable; as I'm fond of saying: my weakness is my strength. Perhaps I should just quote a verse: My skin is like a map Of where my heart has been And I can't hide the marks It's not a negative thing So I let down my guard Drop my defenses down by my clothes I'm learning to fall With no safety net to cushion the blow That is who I am; or aspire to be, at least. River allows me to fall deep. And that is good; because that's where I found her, yesterday: alone, in the deep, where she cried out, only no one could hear her. :( And I just sat there, and cried with her. :( And it was all good. For River, the girl I found broken, a word from the book that is broken: From the depths, oh Lord, we cry unto You. Speaking of depths, I have a young cousin; and, one day, he wished to teach me Pokemon; and, playful as I am, I let him. So, I was playing with his gameboy (Pokemon Yellow, I believe). And I recall being stuck in some stupid cave. But, lucky for me, I had an escape rope and could magically whisk out of there, lol. :) The other day, I was in that cave again. So, that's why this blog is... For Kayna, the girl who threw me a rope, when I was at the end of mine.

Good lord, they're 'squee'-ing
Wednesday, 01 March 2006 17:20:31

I have now decided that I shall no longer continue my work on the fanfic. It is go se. Too many people hate it. It has recieved ratings so high that it does not merit them. I can't stand the attention and adulations and since I'm such an accomplished writer and don't wish to deal with you dregs of fandom, you can all kiss my... --- Wow. I'm really bowled over by how well you guys liked what I did. Even Kess thought it was passable. And no, I've never really written a fictional story before. I AM new at this, had all the school stuff but that was years and years ago and storytelling wasn't really my strong suit. I got involved in the Galactic Embassy years back. It's an online text-based RPG that has it roots in Yahoo chat, moved to Yahoo clubs, then Yahoo Groups, and now has it's own site. Granted, it's Star Wars, but the genre was close enough and my Shadow Jedi called Kaele kicked some major arse. Not in fighting mind you, but in manipulation. Turning Sith was a pure joy. The only downfall was that most of my role play was turn-based. I would write a paragraph, then another would write their side. But it was good exercise in description. Unfortunately, I couldn't control plot so well, but in all modesty most of the players there to this day now follow my RPG style that myself and a few of my friends employed. Now that I've moved to completely controlling the story, I'm a little daunted by it. So this is as much a voyage of discovery for you as it is for me. I do little editing, so please excuse some of the rough feel. I have a very relaxed style of writing, but if you notice, many writers are falling into that lately. I consider it 'mind-candy' writing. All the essential parts of a story but easier to read. Like Joss' example on Firefly and Serenity, I'm aiming to be a slave to the story and its development. I cannot claim to be anywhere near as experienced and talented as him, but he's a mold to experiment with. You know, that nasty kind that gets in grout and never comes out.

Yesterday was River Appreciation Day.
Wednesday, 01 March 2006 22:28:32

I've been watching more of Firefly/Serenity than usual. By that I mean that if I'm home and not in the shower then it's on. I even have it on while I sleep- I haven't been doing much of that lately and I find it helps. Well yesterday after watching Safe I had to go out, one of my friends wanted me to come with her when she released a baby Platypus out in the wild. I never really thought much about most animals. I love horses, wolves, dogs and penguins- aside from that I just don't register a lot of interest. Especially since I always thought that the platypus was a creepy looking animal. Anway we're sitting in her car and I have to hold the little critter's cage, and I'm not paying a whole lot of attention, it's asleep and it just don't seem so important. We get to the section of river where the little guy needs to be released and she asks me if I want to do it. So I put the gloves on and I'm holding it and of course it wakes up. But then I have this moment, where it's staring at me and I'm staring back and I develop a whole new appreciation for this animal. 'Safe' just comes flashing back to me as I watch the little guy swim away- "Little souls, big world." and I suddenly understand what she's saying. It was a complete epiphany sort of moment. I went back and rewatched a lot of the episodes and Serenity and I gained a whole new perspective as to what she was saying. Her words are often like a layer cake, so many meanings from one phrase. It's incredible. So yeah yesterday for me was River Appreciation Day. I'm doing a lot better after yesterday, things are dark, but they aren't the blackest night anymore, I'm lost in the woods but the mist is clearing and I'm slowly getting my bearings back. Even looking forward to my birthday, which approaches rapidly. I'm 21 in 26 days, I can't believe this, I'm sure I should be a lot older, so much has happened in 21 years- and once again I find myself empathising with River. Everyone thank you so much for your love, support and kind words. I couldn't ask to have met better people. Thank you so much Asarian and Riverrun and Bookaddict especially. The three of you have been so wonderful to me. I'm glad to know everyone here though. Thank you. Have the shiniest rest of the week imaginable.

Spring Break and Firefly. Heaven.
Thursday, 02 March 2006 05:16:52

I'm starting my spring break today. Ok, technically it doesn't start untill Sunday but I only have classes through Thursday so I say it starts the moment class ends. I'm spending the week with some friends and I've talked about Serenity so much that they asked me to bring it. I'm also bringing FF. Like I said, we've got all week. I won't spend the whole time glued to the TV though. There will be actual time spent outside, in the woods, away from FF (gasp such a shock). I'm not partying much because it's still cold here (ice and snow, how I loathe you right now) and I can't afford to go south. But really, friends, Firefly and Mother Nature are all I need. I'll talk to you when I get back

I <3 Allens lollies lots... {dooby doooby dooooby waaa}

Over the Hills and Far Away Ch 4 is Posted
Thursday, 02 March 2006 10:47:07

This was a difficult chapter to write because I really don’t have any experience writing anything “actiony”. While this wasn’t a battle sequence, it did require that the plot stay moving. I tend to be an introspective character writer, so I had some trouble making sure that the story didn’t drag. Also, I was determined that everyone should have a chance to be a POV character at least once in this chapter, which meant writing Zoe, River, and Jayne for the first time. Fortunately, it all turned out all right. I’m actually especially proud of how River’s segment turned out, and a little bit scared of how easy it was to write. I avoided it for days, thinking it would be impossible but then I started writing, and I ended up barely changing anything. It was weird. I’m not sure everyone will agree with my view of how River’s mind might work. What I ended up doing was painting her world through associations. The building was yellow and the first thing that popped into my mind was Easter. I never meant to burden her segment with so many religious references, but I ended up liking it in context with her segment with Book in chapter Two. Well, enough of me rambling. In the next chapter, you can except to learn more about Aurelia Woo and Morris Kentdale, as well and Zoe’s reaction to River’s surprise rescue – as well as to the fact that Wash lost. Oh yeah, and Simon has something to say about this, too….

Noise in Space
Thursday, 02 March 2006 16:22:19

So I haven't managed to produce a blog since I worked the rodeo and got sick. But now my brain is back in action and I have a gripe. When I first started watching Firefly I couldn't understand why there weren't any noises when something happened in space. But then I remembered that space is a vacuum so there couldn't be noise and I was thrilled by it all. So acurate. And the whole inertia thing. Loved it. No reason to have engines going. Star Trek never thought that out. But then I saw the BDM. Noise. In. Space. I couldn't figure out what bugged me, but that was it. Too much noise. Maybe I just need to go back and rewatch it for the 4th time (yes I am beind, but give me a break, it's only my 3rd week). Could be it was just in the atmo that I assumed was space. I hope it was that. I hope I was so completely absorbed in the movie that nothing else matterd. But it does matter. It didn't matter while watching the BDM, it only mattered while watching the BDS. It was a lovely little quirk that I enjoyed so much. Realsim in Sci-Fi. Don't get that too often. Rae PS And I am an idiot!!! I could not figure out why I liked Adam Baldwin, but then one day it hit me (after cruising imdb). MAJOR MITCHELL!!! My first true military crush, (save Todd, but he was real). I fell in love with the way he was in ID4. Hard to believe that he came back to me after all these years. And without his shirt. Just rewatched Jaynestown. Hmmm...I wonder if I ever get married and have kids, if I could convince my husband to name our son Jayne? Maybe a middle name. You say I am crazy...I say I am passionate.

Serenity Bus Journey
Thursday, 02 March 2006 17:02:25

Phew! Just got back from college and I'm ready to relax. Just an interesting snippet to share with you. I was on the bus home with a friend and I pulled out the Serenity graphic novel. He was confused, as he is not yet a browncoat, I place emphasis on yet. He told me to read it out. So I did, loudly, for the whole bus to hear. I acted out the gunfights and did some chinese. Inevitably there was much looking at me funny from other passengers but I carried on. I just hope that some people on the bus thought 'Hmm this fellow is a freak, but this graphic novel seems delightful, I'll go and buy it." Also news from Dark Horse comics that Joss Whedon has confirmed another graphic novel based in the Firefly continum. Keep flyin' friends. No power in the 'verse can stop us. (P.S I am running a Serenity RPG on Friday with some friends so if it goes well I'll post up the modile I created for your little firefly mitts to get hold of. Shiny!)

Mostly For the Staying Awake... (Apologies)
Thursday, 02 March 2006 17:19:22

Most important thing with working the night-shifts, I've learned, is keeping a consistent schedule. (Hard to remember to go to bed when the sun's still rising...) And if I sleep too early, I know I'll just be tired all tomorrow and end up wasting away my free time. (Okay, so I'd likely spend it watching Firefly, but still...) Feeling a little guilty about not getting much work on various projects today (still getting back into the swing of being all "creative", trying to get some more disciplined in that area... trying to do at least a little bit every day, but I guess it's okay to take a break once in awhile.) Let's see... I've got some supplies coming in sometime next week so I can experiment with getting my lunchbox done. (Still getting the side panels finished, and trying to spread the BDH's evenly over all four sides. 4 sides/ nine heroes... still deciding whether to try and pair some of them up, or just do 3 separate pics per side. Plus Kaylee keeps popping up into quite a lot of them, go figure.) Some point I'll have to get around to looking up copyright laws, see how badly I'd be infringing if I wanted to try and sell some. Figure I'll post instructions for how I did it regardless, maybe make my files available for use. (Assuming my plan works...) Doing it mostly out of love anyways... Also trying my hand at writing again. (My first love.) That's still going slowly, but I always did when I'm working on a story. (No Stephen King am I.) Have an idea for translating the plot from Fistful of Dollars/ Seven Samurai into a Firefly fic.(wait... I think that's the wrong movie. Akira Kurasawa, same plotline... can't remember it's been awhile since I saw it. There was also that Bruce Willis movie set in the '20's had the same story.) Was going to try and do it like a screenplay for an episode, but it won't fit into 45 minutes, so I'm switching back to novel-style. Never tried writing fanfic, so it's something of a challenge. Also still working on that whole winning the lottery thing... wish I had a couple hundred million dollars, 'cause guess where I'd be investing that? Okay, enough inane rambling. Maximum verbosity off. :stupid:

New Firefly music video - Rusty Cage
Thursday, 02 March 2006 18:18:38

Here's my sixth vid, a Firefly/Serenity series overview set to Johnny Cash's cover of the Soundgarden/Chris Cornell song "Rusty Cage." Fast moving, lots of action. I tried to capture the spirit of the series and make the vid feel like a journey. Hope you enjoy the ride. All are WMV, 3:05

Yay!! Snowday!
Thursday, 02 March 2006 21:33:34

Soooo excited. Supposed to work at 4pm, got the day off on account of unexpected, major snow. Gee, what will I do with myself? My friends returned Firefly to me last night. (Thank God, I have a "slight" case of separation anxiety. haha I sure you all can relate. So, I'm thinking Chinese food and LOADS of laziness. Beats the hell outta work. Has any one seen "Molly and Roni's Dance Party"? I netflixed it. Apparantly Adam Baldwin And Jaimie Lee Curtis are taught 70's dance moves! It's an instructional video. nuff said.... Let's just say, I can't f'ing wait to see that! I'll be in my bunk...laughing. See ya

Thursday, 02 March 2006 23:17:19

Well, I am working on some fanfic for a few days. It's gonna be good, at least I hope. The main plot centres around another ship ( I am withholding the name to... raise anticipation?) Well, look for me in the next couple of months.

anybody like Clive Barker too ???
Thursday, 02 March 2006 23:23:57

Clive kicks ass >>> this is sooooo true "We spoke with Barker after the show. He is a nice and charming person who is completely unaware of his fame and importance in the art and entertainment industry. Barker posed for photos for his many fans." see link for article

About requests and some other stuff
Friday, 03 March 2006 04:01:21

Had a lot of requests that I'm slowly but surely makeing my way through..Also had folks request to use my drawings for related things..cool.. We're all fans here, and as long as I know where they're going..and it's not,you know, porn related, I'm down with it. Hey, it's all firefly/serenity, and anything that'll help keep it alive I'm for it.. Tonight we get a double dose since Smallville's a rerun and nothing much on 'till CSI...

Friday, 03 March 2006 04:18:22

K so if anyone has read my previous entry today, they would know that I got an unexpected day off. (snow) So, I decide to step out of the box and remember what my life was like BFF/S. So I am watching this GROSS thing about polygomy (sorry mormon browncoats hehe) and all I can think of is why are ALL these guys so gross? Is it cuz they have 40 wives and can let themselves go? Crazy gorram freaks! If Nathan was the poster child for polygomy, I think it could work. (even the crazy Scientologists would have a run for there money!) by the way, sorry Scientologists, no aliens on Firefly, tough break... bye y'all

1 blocked ear + 1½ hour long flight = PAIN!
Friday, 03 March 2006 05:13:38

So here we are muppets... The end of another hard week, with our shoulders aching and our livers begging us not to destroy them even further. Our tummies are rumbling with anticipation of weekend food (yum!) and our feet looking forward to a couple days of respite. And all I care about right now is my gorram ear! It is still blocked (going on a week and a bit) and I have a painful flight tomorrow... *sigh... It really hasn't been my week... It has been the busiest week ever! We took a record # of calls in one day (280 jobs and now multiply that by about 10 - as that is about the number of calls we have to make associated to each job, and there you have it!) But, I do have some bad news - because I am going to Brisbane, chances are, I won't be back until the following Sunday (the 11th for us Auzdogs

On the Big Screen
Friday, 03 March 2006 07:09:05

Well, I'm staying at my dah's house for the weekend and I've decided to make it my personal goal to watch Firefly on his enormous, wall sized projector screen, surround sound home theater. Not all at one mind you... that would probably lead to a pleasure overload and subsequent heart attack. But over the next couple of weeks it is my goal to see them in all their big screen glory. Huzzah.

American analogy
Friday, 03 March 2006 20:11:47

So last night I went to see the Black Watch and the Welsh Guard Band (nice, if you are in to bagpipes and such, which I am starting to think I am not) and of course it got me to thinking about the American revolution and how we broke off from England. So what I got to thinking it, if the Browncoats had managed to succeed in their mission, would it have been possible for them to form a formidable "nation" ? This set my mind thinking for most of the concert. And I came to the idea that no, they could not make a nation, but rather an alliance of their own set up of independent moons that band together when needed. Of course, then I realized that it is almost like the United States with their different states with different laws. Of course then my mind got to thinking about possible names. The Browncoat Federation The United Browncoats of Space The Independent Federation of the Verse Yeah, my mind tends to wander, especially when I am bored and have had one too many Kiltlifters. Not that it was a bad concert, it was nice and my friends are awesome, its just that I can't sit still for too long. Not without my mind going every which way but asleep.

what would be really cool is ..........

Finally it is out in Germany, too. I bought the Serenity 2DVD set today! So guess what I will be doing tonight  And Buffy is on German TV again, starting with the very first ep tonight. Cool! Seems they will only be showing the first season for a start, though. Never mind, that is the season I have not yet seen. It will be the German dubbed version, though, which is not quite as funny as the English original. There are just so many puns and dry comments in it which are not easily translatable. I started writing a new fanfic story, but I won't tell anything about it yet.

Interesting email...
Friday, 03 March 2006 22:25:11

Amazon.com emailed me today and told me I might be interested in some Science Fiction film called "Serenity." Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Maybe I'll check it out. I'll let you guys know if it's worth the trouble.

Crashed My Car
Friday, 03 March 2006 22:29:30

Skidded on an icy road. Missed two cars, smashed my right front wheel against the curb. Sat in the middle of the road for an hour waiting for the recovery folks. The wheel is easily replaced, might be other (brakes, axle) damage. We'll see. What jolly Friday night fun it was.

Firefly-Tribute Album Back At CDBaby.com
Friday, 03 March 2006 22:37:02

Well, okay, the album actually didn't go anywhere, but CDBaby took a long nap in the last 24 hours. However, she's up and runnin' again, so if you tried and failed to get your own copy of the Bedlam Bards' On the Drift: Music Inspired by Firefly and Serenity, you can do it now at

Everybody's so angry
Saturday, 04 March 2006 09:54:05

Or at least condescending, or mean or ... to eachother. (yes the title is a play on a thread title from a little while back) Someone doesn't like the movie and points out some flaws. Burn the heretic!!! Someone doesn't see your point of view on something. Flame them, they just must be stupid! And of course none of this is could be your fault. It can't be that someone has a valid point that you disagree with. It couldn't be that you just didn't explain it properly. Or it couldn't be that they just misunderstood something and it certainly isn't your responsibility to make sure people are actually getting what you mean or it couldn't be that you didn't understand them, because you're never wrong, right? No it can't be you. No, not at all. (And no, I'm not saying I'm completely innocent here.) No, I'm not necessarily talking about whoever is reading this... if anyone reads this. To be clear, what I've seen over the past months is people starting to get more and more aggressive on the FF/Serenity part of the forums. In fact, it's getting to the point where it is starting to approach what goes on in the RWD threads. Or at least what went on in RWD the last time I participated. I used to take a break from RWD by going to the other forums and calmly discuss FF with other people discussing FF. Sure, there were disagreements. But, nothing like what is going on now. Another thing I'm seeing (and this is far more telling of the situation), is the "veteran" posters are starting to post, less and less and less. In fact, it has become the exception that I see a familiar handle on the threads that I click on. This mass exodus cannot be coincidence. So, here's what I'm going to do (actually I've already been doing it) and I hope others will do so as well. I'm just not going to do it anymore. I'm not going to discuss with people that use ridiculous hyperbole, condescending comments, etc. The only thing that they'll get from me after they do such a thing, is telling them that I'm not going to discuss with them until they can "keep a civil tongue in there head." And that's it for discussing with them in that thread. Because, quite frankly, I'm getting sick of fighting; it drains me. And I got enough crap to deal with in RL, never mind what I am now having to start to put up with in these forums. So, I'm just not going to do it anymore. I'm not going to speak with those that try to beat people down (even if not intended). I'm only going to talk to happy, nice people. The people that have supported me and countless others through tough times. The people that carry you when you can't crawl anymore (or at least keep you company when you are crawling or waiting for someone to carry you if they ain't strong enough to carry you ) The real Browncoats. Because, if we can't get along with eachother, we've already lost.

Rain and Paper Airplanes
Saturday, 04 March 2006 09:57:13

I tried to fly a paper airplane in the rain today... It didn't work, At least not for very long. And yet I had a blast! Everything is fun when done in the rain. I just realized: it’s no longer today, but tomorrow. Two in the morning... Good night.

The Movie
Sunday, 05 March 2006 00:16:06

Okay, so I finally saw Serenity the other night, and I absolutely loved it, except for one tiny little detail...THEY KILLED WASH FOR NO DAMN GOOD REASON!!! :disappointed: :pissed: I mean, I'm sorry, I don't see the point in killing him. It was dramatic enough at that point in the film and quite frankly my anger and disbelif distracted me from what was going on. Other than that, I thought it was excellent. I even understood when Book died. The old wise guy always gets it...look at Harry Potter. Anyways, I think it was pointless to kill Wash, even if it was a device to give River a place on Serenity. :bash: she already had one!!! All right, well I'm done now...hehe  I'm off to rectify the situation, me the fixer of all sad endings *scribbling furiously...* Titanic

I survived...
Sunday, 05 March 2006 01:09:55

Well, some of you might remember about two weeks back, when I moped about my best friend getting married and how I did not want to go to the wedding? The wedding was today, and of course I did go to it after all. Not to the actual ceremony, though, just to the get together they had after that. And I arrived rather late (on purpose), so that I would not have to spend too much time there. It was okay, though. I met many people I had not seen for quite a while (all of my friend's family, for example, as well as many common friends). He was really glad to see me there, I think (because I had told him beforehand that I would not come) and so was his wife. I did start crying after I had congratulated them, but I think no one noticed or if they did, they were tactful enough not to mention it, and I got myself back in check rather quickly. I am glad I did go there and feel a lot better for it, too. I had dreaded this day for quite some time. Sometimes you just have to confront your demons. On a lighter note: I went on a diet last Wednesday. Normally I am really not the dieting type, I never needed to be, either. But I have gained 12 pounds over the last six month or so, which I really hate. So I now decided to try to loose some of it again. I will only eat fresh salads and wholewheat bread for the next couple of weeks (along with fruits and eventually a yoghurt as snacks) plus homecooked soup on the weekends. I will try to keep this up until Easter (following the traditional Lent here, even though I am rather an agnostic person). I also started to work out some (jogging and training on the side-stepper).

First Entry
Sunday, 05 March 2006 01:10:36

Well. Not entirely certain what to post yet. I've heard a lot about Firefly over the past couple years and never quite got around to checking it out.. Bought the movie today and loved it.. Gonna run out and get the series tomorrow.. then perhaps I'll have something more intelligent to post. Kay

Love is the first rule
Sunday, 05 March 2006 06:35:01

I was reading my Visual Guide to Serenity this morning, and I looked at Mal's final speech, about how love is the first rule of flying. If you don't love a boat, he tells River, it'll toss you off sure as the turning of worlds. Love will keep it in the air when it ought to fall. Man, what a great speech--it applies to so many things. Y'know, I realize I'm not the greatest musician around--I've got a few reviews to point that out--but I play with love for my music, so it all works out. And I really can't play a tune I don't love. It just won't stick. Like Mal say, it doesn't matter if you do all the math in the world. Love is what matters--passion, energy, not precision. They say that if something isn't hard, it's not worth doing. Well, it's love that allows you to do the things that are difficult. Earlier in the movie, Doctor Mathias says that Simon is mad, because of all the very difficult things he's done for River. The Operative replies that Simon's motivation is not madness, but love. Yet it's fascinating to me how often one looks a lot like the other. So the key to life is a passion so strong it looks like madness. That's what kept Firefly flyin' when it should have dropped off the radar. It's what keeps a bunch of us crazy Browncoats dreaming that we'll have sequels. It's what keeps me playing music no matter what anyone says.

Sunday, 05 March 2006 12:07:14

Thank you all so much for the words of welcome. I don't normally do the fan thing so I wasn't sure what to expect. Posted my little blog entry yesterday and woke up to a small flock of responses this morning.. and you were all so NICE! I was a little nervous since i'm such a newbie that me suddenly appearing wouldn't be a good thing in your (the group's) eyes. Thank you all for making me feel welcome. *bounce* 5 more hours til i get get to the store and get series. One of the bad things about waking up early on the weekend... nothing is currently open.

Fanfic frustrations and moping
Sunday, 05 March 2006 12:12:05

Okay folks....I just have to whine for a few minutes:( I've spent a very long time working on the next chapter of my fanfic, Dream Sequence. It was almost done, as a matter of fact.....and I deleted it. Irretrievably. I had it saved as a draft on my email, so I could log in and work on it from home, work, or wherever, and I accidentally clicked the "disgard draft" button. Now, I wasn't entirely happy with the chapter, and I'd planned to do a good deal of editing, but there was still some good stuff in there that is now gone. I just spent some time starting the re-write, but it's really hard to get motivated when you know you already wrote something, and you said it better the first time. I'm not happy:(

Tales from the Verse
Sunday, 05 March 2006 14:20:00

This is my first entry here, so I will announce that I am writing some fan fiction. Tales from the Verse will be a series of short stories along with illustrations. There series is called "Salvaging Hope." and is based on a new crew, and a new ship. Everything takes place in Joss' Verse. The ship, Aurora, is an amphibious Salvage vessel. It is a custom ship and follows no known design. It was designed by the Captain, and his sister in their parents shipyard. More on Aurora, and the crew later.

YEE HAH!

*ahem* I got it i got it i got it. Took stops at two different stores, one did not have it in stock (considers boycotting on principle but perhaps they had them and it was just so popular it sold out) NOW to see how many episodes i can fit in before i have to go to sleep to get up for work tomorrow!!!

Genetic Psychics....interestin
Sunday, 05 March 2006 20:02:49

I have bin readin some fan fiction and i got interested in the idea of there being other experiments before River. For example one theory about the HoBs is that they were semi failed experiments. It occured to me with all the meddeling with the brain whos to say genetics werent changed? (tis possible, didnt just make that up) Whos to say it cant be inherited? Whos to say the Acadamy didn think of it. Interesting, no? Let me know wot u think and i will see bout sum fan fiction I would take it as a kindness that no one takes advantage of my idea

Sunday, 05 March 2006 20:14:07

Ok. Question first. Is there anyway that i can respond to comments people make to my log entries.. w/o making another log entry? Next. I am on the first episode. not completely finished.. Mal and Zoe and Jayne are battling it out with Patience and her bunch. I think i am going to need to track down an episode guide and some sort of.. how the movie and the series sync because i'm confused about a few things.

Belive it or not, I was really just introduced to firefly about 6 months ago[ I know, where the Hell have I been!!??]and was totally blown away by it. It was the story/show/cast/characters that I have been waiting so long for. To find it then lose it all in one day was one of the most bittersweet moments of my life, go figure. It seems to me a true crime that this show was canned in favor of your usual mind numbing rubbish that makes up so much of primetime T.V. Not to mention how spectacular the movie was! Have so many of us been brainwashed by network television that the pure genius of FireFly and Serenity go on unnoticed by the general populice?! I belive that we Firefly Fans possess a level of intelligence above the average drooling, mumbling watcher of mediocre, insipid programming that allows us to get, truely get, Firefly.

Monday, 06 March 2006 03:07:22

Monday, 06 March 2006 06:04:30

What a weekend! Friday night I was at my grandmother's for our bi-weekly card game. Saturday was cleaning and D&D, peppered with a good handful of Yeungling Lagers of course! What a night that was. Sunday was the other grandmother's birthday party. So Kaele's bushed. I apologize to those who are waiting for a new fanfic installment. It is on its way, and I DID do some planning and plot development with my brother in the car as we drove. Now what IS a Blue Sun executive doing on Serenity?

Monday, 06 March 2006 08:00:33

If I had a nickel for every one of these personal blog things I've used...I'd have...25 cents... Anywho, I finished up episode five of my season two of Firefly. It's just sitting on my computer, waiting to be given a cursory read through/edit, because I haven't the time for anything more complicated. I haven't posted it because it's actually a two parter, and I thought it wouldn't be fair to post on a cliffhanger. So I'm working through episode six as well. I will say that episode five has been the most irritating one I've written so far. In fact, they just seem to be getting harder and harder. But man, I had to rewrite episode five so many rutting times! There's just too much that goes on in it, but all of it's necessary so...argh! Not to mention it's heavy on the gravity, and trying to interject humor in this one's a pain. Sometimes, I think I just want to give up on this two-parter and do the slightly more lighter stories. *sigh*

Vindication (Plus, a fanfic update!)
Monday, 06 March 2006 15:42:00

So, who caught the Oscars last night? As usual, I was sorely disappointed in the Academy. However, I did feel very, very shiny to see that Star Wars: Sith Happens didn't even take home the one award it was nominated for, best makeup. I wouldn't have voted for them either, heck the clip they used was of the hideous Darth Mumm-Ra that somehow replaced the Emperor. Take that Lucas! On a brighter note, I've managed to finish my seventh Tale for all of your perusal. This time, it's Inara's turn. It's not exactly a fun little story, but there is just a wiff of Mal/Inara in there for you 'shippers. Personally, I greatly enjoy the two of them, and look forward to writing them more in the future. So please, read and comment away!

What makes a fan?
Monday, 06 March 2006 23:04:19

So, I was cruising the topics the other day and someone had mentioned in one something about (and this is not a direct quote) "a true fan would have the visual companion" and that got me to thinking...Am I less than a true fan because I do not have all the "required" gear? But what is "required"? An undescribable love for the verse...check Actually watching the BDS and BDM...check Knowing characters...check I think everything else is whipping and a cherry on top of the ice cream. Why do some people seem to think that "only the true fans" have spent gobs of money on items. Let's face facts, if I had the money I would buy everything Serenity related I could, but I don't. But I still consider myself a fan. And I think anyone who has managed to find themself in the mindset of the verse, regardless of whether they made it this far, is a fan. So, did I take someone's missaid line out of context? Sadly, I wish it were so, but sometimes you do have snobs. But hey, if you ask me, the more the merrier, and if you can educate anyone, hey it's all for the good cause. Rae Thanks to anyone reading this. These are just my museless thoughts. Or perhaps you are my muse. My desire to share my experience of Serenity. Gods, what is it about this that makes me so passionate. I really need to get a boyfriend. Misplaced lust. Has to be.

Disturbing message
Tuesday, 07 March 2006 02:20:25

hey, gang.. Just got my first hate mail (anonymous, of course).. this jackass called me all sorts of interesting names (misspelled most of 'em...) Does this mean I made the big time? Never got hate mail before..I've been flamed a few times, But nothing as personal as this attack...somehow this "person" got my email address...so whoever it is consider yourself blocked, plonked, and filtered..Not gonna spend the effort to fight with you... On a happier note..Had my nieces and nephew over this weekend..they are 10,9,and 8..and watched the BDM with them and my brother..so they ask me "If eveytime someone say's Miranda, does the girl beat up the Big guy?"...I had to pause the movie till I quit laughing...out of the mouth of babes,eh?

Loving this site!
Tuesday, 07 March 2006 03:19:20

Wow. Been a while since I've looked in on this site... and I'm absolutely giddy! It seems that no matter how much stuff is going on in your life, and no matter how much time has passed between now and the last showing of anything Firefly-related, this site remains loyal and up to date with all things Serenity. I'm really impressed! Coming here after all this time is like coming home. The Browncoats haven't skipped a beat, and let me just say I love you all the more for it! Keep up the good work

Hot Topic tees

Tuesday, 07 March 2006 06:17:23

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! So. Malnourished is going to Moonlight Rising with me and asked to be in my fic. Seeing as how I didn't want to put up with her whinging for months and then meet her in real life, wish granted. Where's Waldo? Seems like a long weekend off of writing did me good. Had a long chat with my brother about where this is gonna eventually go and that helped immensely. Am very happy with the plot, but the writing could use a little polishing. It also helped that MalNourished and FollowMal were being insanely sick and disgusting during our Yahoo Conference. Nothing gets those creative juices flowing like a low, down, dirty and lewd discussion of all the *cough* attributes of our beloved Captain. We have now come down the the basest of humors. The inside joke. Most having to do with our beloved Captain and various levels of...impropriety. Furthermore, if you need explanation of any of our conversations and blurbs on the threads from here on in, please know that you subject yourself to utter insanity. You have been warned.

Best Served Cold - Yes Griping about Fanfiction
Tuesday, 07 March 2006 08:55:55

Well, my first little chapter of the story I've had kicking around in my head is up and posted. Changed a bit from how I initially conceived it, but I don't want to reveal anything just yet. It was shorter then I would have liked I think, but before I canonballed into the pool I wanted to get something floating around out there, get a little feedback, see if I'm on the right track. It's my first fanfiction in, well, quite a long time. I sort of retired from the fanfiction arena, worked on my own stuff, took some creative writing, thought I'd moved on. But gorram it, I love my Firefly and I knew I had to do something. Keeps me busy, lets my imagination play out, and just maybe I can find a little niche for myself to keep me busy. Well, to anyone who decides to give it a whirl, I hope you like it. My thoughts about writing on the crew? At first I stumbled through it a bit, I wasn't real sure I liked what I had going. I wrote a short scene in the dining room that was really meant to let me get a feel for Mal, then I went right to the scene with Simon. I felt of all the characters, I would have the easiest time writing him. I hope I did my job satisfactorily, though I don't know how I'm going to deal with River outside of paying much closer attention to all of her scenes. Without revealing much I will say that my original notion of how things are going to unfold had Mal in the center stage, but I do think that now that I've gotten these first few scenes written out, River is going to play a very large role. Well, I'm going to see just how things go. I've got the confidence to say I've got a master plan, and I think I can tell it. Well, if you actually read this rambling, then I'm a slack-jawed idiot, surprised you would. I suspect more entries in my little blog here will deal with my experiences working on my fanfic and who knows maybe it'll even help someone else with their own!

Serenity DVD Sales
Tuesday, 07 March 2006 09:41:23

Most of ye have probably seen this already - I only came across it today. It's a update on Serenity DVD sales as of Feb 18th from www.sliceofscifi.com At that stage Serenity had already made enough money to turn a profit and since the European DVD has only been released subsequently then the profits will be even more by now. This is the article: February 18, 2006 DVD Sales Push Serenity Over The Top Submitted by: Sevens Newsarama is reporting that the combined sales of theater tickets and DVD sales has turned Serenity out of the red and into the black. The total production costs for the Joss Whedon film was $39 million with a rumored advertising cost at approximately another $10 million making the total out of Universal's pocket at around $49 million. The total U.S. theater box office take was a disappointing $25 million with international theatrical sales fairing little better at $13 million leaving Universal in the red for a whopping $28 million when taking into account that studios receive around 55% of total ticket sales. With that kind of red ink Universal and Whedon have been walking around with all their fingers crossed hoping that the DVD sales would at least allow them to break even and show the pic in the black, even if only marginally. And it looks like all the finger crossing has paid off as the latest DVD numbers look very encouraging. All DVD reports up to January 31st are in and it looks like over 2 million DVD's have been sold and VideoBusiness.com, an organization that tracks video rental information, announced that Serenity has made $9 million in DVD rentals alone. The fact that Serenity has taken Universal out of the red and into the black is great news, but don't cheer too early. According to Universal execs it still may not be enough for them to wager on a costly sequel, even though Whedon brought this one in at $1 million under its original projected cost of $40 million. So kids, perhaps, like Universal and Joss Whedon, we need to start crossing all our fingers for a sequel and maybe, just maybe, like the studio coming out of the red, Serenity Part 2 can come out on the big screen.

My mini shindig
Tuesday, 07 March 2006 15:39:08

Firefly... wow. Really. And those podcasts: Firefly Talk and The Signal. Those are probably the best things in the world:: what with keepin you up to date with the news round the 'verse and their "How to speak Chinese" section. I have to stop myself from calling my sister mei mei since she's not a sci fi fan. I've got a shindig in the planning processes. 5 girls, orange chicken from Panda Express, strawberry ice cream, "Jaynestown", "Safe", and "Shindig". Anyone have any other good ideas? i'm open to them.

Open Letter to Scheduling Powers That Be - Addendum
Tuesday, 07 March 2006 16:16:29

Not to toot my own horn, but ... I would just like to point out that everything I mentioned as a scheduling "issue" in my original log has now been rectified. I won't say I'm a scheduling genius, but - well, if I do will you all hold it against me? So starting this month, Supernatural will be after Smallville on Thursdays, Everwood will move back to Monday night (although this will bump Related, which probably doesn't have much of a chance for renewal) and Bones is back at 8pm on Wednesday, leaving Veronica Mars unobstructed at 9pm. As for the fate of Sydney and Alias, it is still somewhat of mystery. I think it's coming back some time in April, but I could be wrong. All I have to say is Alleluia to those programming folks in H-Wood. Now, all we have to do is get them to realize that Firefly: Season 2 belongs on Sci-Fi Fridays and we are looking at a utopian fantasy of great TV! Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming ...

Hero of Canton Drunk

so I got hero of Canton drunk last night while listening to Bedlam bards. It seemed appropiate but like Jayne I didn't weigh the consiquence and here I am at work unable to concentrate. Also I called my friends in another time zone at god knows what hour and probably pissed them off good. So I'm a giant dork and I wanted to share. Have a ruttin fine day my darling Browncoats of the world.

Wednesday, 08 March 2006 04:25:00

Working on my first honest to God oil painting--trying to remember how oils work is throwing me a bit... It's sad in a way that computer technology has almost made oil painting and actual drawing obsolete..I was glancing through the latest issue of Illustrators and noticed that digital work out numbered the traditional paintings about 5-1. I'm not knocking good digital work..some of it can be stunning and I've played around with it myself..But I find that I work better with tactile media..I have to feel the paper and brush..gotta get my hands dirty... I have an idea for a painting and I hope my skills are enough to carry it off..nothing is more frustrating then having an idea lodge itself in your head and not be able to express it..Well, thanks for listening and thanks for all the positive comments on my last blog... you guys rule..

I'm lost, lost in the woods
Wednesday, 08 March 2006 04:34:57

I don't know what is going on, but I feel so low right now. Not sad or depressed really, I just feel like I want to cry. It's weird. I can't pinpoint anything that's actually wrong, I just feel like breaking down and crying right now. I used to do it all the time when I was little, just start crying without knowing why. It's not normal. I'm not entirely sure it's a good thing either. I feel like River. I work, I function like I'm a girl. I hate it because I know it'll go away. The sun goes dark, and chaos is come again. Bits, fluids, what am I? Feels like the sun has been dark for a long while. I get confused. I remember everything. I remember too much. And yet I don't remember much of anything at all.

Ideas
Wednesday, 08 March 2006 06:53:34

Ideas for analysis: Mal's faith - lost, or transformed into hatred? Possibly expanded to an examination of all faiths or lack thereof in the 'verse (mostly Buddhism and Christianity). Simon and Kaylee - development from attraction to love, or static? Inara - exploring the moral context of Companions, whores, Jayne, and other such. Mal and Inara - why do they like each other, why don't they say anything? Character profiles. Episode reviews (including film and comic book). Note: these are open for comments, but really, this is a post-it note so I can remember all these things.

Ok so I'm really worried by this- someone tell me I'm not crazy, PLEASE!!
Wednesday, 08 March 2006 13:11:59

I'm watching a documentary and it's all about the media and marketing industries targeting children. I knew that this happened, I'm not naieve but does anyone else thinking that a 12 year old girl dressing like a 16 year old, or a 16 year old dressing like they're in their 20's wrong? Am I the only one who is scared about how the verse is turning out? Children being told that they need certain products, that they need to grow up faster than what they are supposed to. The documentary said that soon children will be spending almost a trillion dollars a year- that essentially these children are being targeted and that they are coercing their parents into spending large amounts of money essentially on go-se. I knew that this happened, but I just can't believe that people are profiting off children's insecurities and needs like this. This worries me: these poor children are being manipulated, brain washed even and then the fact that parents are giving in are just as bad- if I had asked for a $200 anything at 8 years old I would only be getting that for my birthday or Christmas. I know that this is "a sign of the times" but we can't use that as an excuse can we? I know that kids yell loud, I know they throw tantrums- my brothers are at the delicate ages of 6 and 9- but we can't just say it's a sign of the times, or that they throw tantrums until we give in. Am I going mad? Is this something that I shouldn't be caring about? But then I can't not care about it because I have little brothers and I want children one day- I don't want my daughter or son to dress like the idiots they have on TV passing as role models. But then what do you do when your child is getting bullied because they have the wrong pair of shoes- that happened to my brother earlier this year, a kid in his class even told him that Santa didn't like him because he got crap presents. I know that I shouldn't be worried but this REALLY SCARES ME!! Apparently they even have marketing awards called The Golden Marble those awards basically reward successful marketing campaigns aimed towards children. I don't know why I wrote all of this, it's just upsetting for me to see the 'verse going under like this, it never used to be this way, and don't get me wrong but there are the beautiful points, I guess this just makes me angry.

Lunchbox in Progress
Wednesday, 08 March 2006 17:26:53

Okay, so I've sort of turned an idle thought I had one evening into something of an obsession :banghead: Just sort of thought it'd be neat to have a Firefly lunchbox, and seeing that there were none to have, figured I could try and see if I could make one myself, sort of a craft project. Soo... now it's my baby. ;p Hopefully the rest of my materials will show up this week sometime. I'm praying the method I'm planning on will work, and assuming it does, I'll post a little how-to around here for anyone interested. Actually, it's been turning out much harder than I originally thought it would. I thought the art would take no time at all... but I haven't been doing much art in a long time, so I keep re-discovering techniques, and changing things, etc. The top piece came easily, cause I had a pretty clear idea of what I wanted. The sides are coming out much tougher to do, though. All I knew originally was that I wanted to show all nine of the crew. Going from there, I basically ran through all the screencaps I could find and picked out my favorites, trying to narrow it down. First two attempts came out a little... Kaylee-centric, though :) So I finally had an idea... It's a lunchbox, food can go in there... why not just focus on the galley scenes where they're all eating together? Getting the pics together then was much easier once I had a theme. I can get all nine in there in some form or another, and I wanted to go for that feeling of family I always got from watching those scenes. Course, I'm still struggling with exactly what sort of composition I want, and how to tie it all in together... Think I've got a good idea out there now, but I've come to the point where I've lost all objectivity on it. I'm literally not seeing what's actually there anymore ;p So, it's time for a short break from it before I paint myself into a metaphorical corner. Maybe a good day's sleep will give me some much-needed perspective... I've also got a possible composition up in the Blue Sun Room, hoping for some objective assessment would help me out. Anyways, I've you've read through all of this, you're my hero ;p Mostly just felt the need to decompress for the day, and I was already here on the site... And I do tend to go on and on... ;p Keep on truckin' fellow Browncoats. :stupid:

Look about with wondering eyes
Wednesday, 08 March 2006 21:20:46

You'll be suprised what you see. I am visiting a friend. She has a hiking trail near her house that is several miles long. She's been out on that trail many times but untill two days ago, she'd never stepped off it. It's a very wide, well graded, man made trail. The trees and brambles an bushes are right up against either side but while you are on that trail, you are seperate form them. They are a differnt world. We went hiking on that trail and it felt wrong to me. Why should we seperate ourselves from nature this way? From the path everything looks dead. Everything feels dead but that isn't so. I know that isn't so. So I suggested that we do a little exploring off the path. She was unsure but up for a go. So we worked our way through the brambles that edge the path with minimal injury and were imediately rewarded with a brilliant spray of crimson amid the brown and the gray. It's a bush that I know as red twig, so named for the vivid color of its bark. At first it seems like the only color in the whloe place but that's not true. There are some pink and blue roks of that way. And look at these tree branches. There are little buds of green and yellow and red on the ends. And over here, the most unusual little shoots pushing up through the have frozen muck. I wonder what they'll be. There are fantastical shapes formed by the trees. Hollow oaks and spiralling vines and odd places where two trees have become one. It seems this whole place is a marsh in warmer weather. You could never explore in here in summer with just your tennis shoes and a stick to help you over fallen trees. She's amazed at all the things I can see. "I need 3 more pairs of eyes" she says. No. Just slow down. Don't look ahead. Look around. Stop and feel the trees, the stones. Feel the dirt between your fingers and don't be afraid to get your feet wet. None of this is dead. It's just sleeping, on the edge of waking. Now She want's to see and expolre more. She leads the way and finds her own wonders. Today, we had a picnic on a fallen tree in a place you can't see from outside the woods/marsh. We just sat listening to the birds singing and the ice melting. We felt the whole place coming slowly awake around us. This whole place will be cut off by marsh and muck (and mosquitoes) in the summer, when everything is "alive" and blooming, when most people will think about how beautigul it is. It's beautiful and alive now. You just have to look. If you look for wonder and beauty, you will find it. You just have to open your eyes.

THE NEW WORLD a cult film?
Wednesday, 08 March 2006 22:12:02

Hey all I'm not sure if anyone here other than me saw this flick when it came out, but I thought it would pertain here, since it could easily be talking about SERENITY. I was just checking my usual sites, and I found this link on imdb.com to a web article that talked about how THE NEW WORLD is in a position to become like the next cult film sensation. For those curious, here's a link to the article.

My Graphic series
Wednesday, 08 March 2006 22:59:39

Sorry I havn't added anymore. I havn't been home (where I have the pics stored) all week. Well, I've been home, just not during hours reasonable to be on the computer during. Thus, no new pics. Also, I have a bit of creative blockage. Seems my creative enegerys are being sucked into use by my spanish class. (260-something words on six, very vauge pictures) Meantime, I'll be brainstorming series for each of the characters to start on once I finish River's bring me to life. Suggestions welcome!

Everybody plays each other?
Thursday, 09 March 2006 02:38:59

The other day I saw a post, by a dear fellow browncoat, that saddened me, for her. She said Love scares her. Primarily because people always want something in return for that "Love". I guess she adheres to the saying that "Pure love is a willingness to give without a thought of receiving anything in return." But, see, that makes me all sad inside; because I believe true Love, while unconditional, is a very mutual thing. It's like Kayna said, in that story about the rope: that while I was climbing out of the cave, it counterbalanced the rope, so she could climb back over the edge of a cliff she'd been clinging to for a while. Similarly, when I write something nice to people, and it makes them happy, then it makes me happy, too. Is that bad? I dunno. People tend to twist the beauty of this truth, and warp it to mean that any person who does well, does so for the reward. But I'd like to turn this around, and ask you: does not, in the end, every person want to make a difference? And is not the natural consequence thereof, that we're happy with a positive result? If this means I "want something in return", then I suppose I'm guilty. Because yes, I feel most happy when I know I made a difference in someone's life (however small that difference may be). I guess this blog turned out not to make as much sense as I had hoped. It just saddens me that people would toss away perfectly good Love, basically just because they're misguided, I would say, in the belief the other person is not supposed to get anything out of it. See, I'm with Emerson, who said: "It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself." A bit confused.

wow i posted a second chapter

Well, I'm a bit better now, although I'm still not quite right. Thanks to all of the kind people that responded to my previous blog, even though I have already thanked each one of you individually. I almost didn't post it on here because I felt it was a useless gesture and that nobody would really care. Boy, was I wrong. The amount of support that I found astounded me. That each one of you would reach out to a stranger is incredible. Not many would have done so. Thank you all for your understanding and support.

That darn fic soul searching
Thursday, 09 March 2006 09:50:39

So I did a bit of soul searching on my fanfic, got to thinking about it. I think what I really wanted to write was a drama but I'm writing to entertain as much as I am to learn about the Verse myself. And I think I have learned about the Verse. I've tried to get a better feel for the characters, tried to become more observant of what they would do. So I looked at what I was doing. A drama? I don't think so, maybe it would work, but it's much more of an action/adventure, maybe a little cheesy and maybe a little cliche. Still, I think the basic idea for the plot, taken with a slightly glib undertone, is solid. So I'm writing an action/adventure. I don't expect it to be the best serving in the Blue Room, but hopefully at least somewhat enjoyable. I guess I just feel a little intimidated, there's some pretty good fanfic writers out there in the 'Verse. Makes me feel good, since some fandoms just have lousy writers. Well I looked at what I was doing and was a bit worried. Some of it sounds trite. I think my only really SOLID scene is the exchange between Inara and Mal. I tried real hard to get the "job" to sound as if it came off right. I may have focused on it too much. But I think I've got it down decently. It's not inspired but it works. I'm getting a little hesitant about Early though. His philosophy spinning common sense isn't necessarily the easiest thing to write, I've limited him to short, clipped sentences and I foresee I will have the biggest trouble with him. His involvement in the story is also strikingly similar to how the events of a certain comic book plays out but I think I can get it to work and not sound completely unrealistic. It does give me the unique opportunity to play with two blue-gloved baddies that I'm sure we're all fascinated by. Well, that's it for the blog...until it decides to be nice to me and lets me upload my Shepherd Book theory.

Morena as Wonder Woman
Thursday, 09 March 2006 10:59:53

Just interested to see whether there was any truth to the rumor that Morena Baccarin (Inara) will play Wonder Woman? There's nothing on Imdb.com, but I thought if anyone had the inside goss, it would be the folk on this site!

LDTT Campaign
Thursday, 09 March 2006 14:10:48

Can everyone with access to a scanner create a letter with name, location and a small paragraph as to why you would like the Firefly/Serenity series to continue. Please sign the bottom of this letter and email to me at hasco3000@hotmail.co.uk. The letters will all be mailed to all of the major television networks when a significant number are collected. There is no obligation to do this, but it is a sure-fire way of getting Firefly on their radar. LDTT - Let's do this together.

making River into an assasin
Thursday, 09 March 2006 20:05:26

I was thinking about the skills and abilities that River displays in the series and in BDM, and a question occurred...how would one "modify" a human to make a superior fighter? Two underlying assumptions: 1. Understanding of genetics, physiology and the brain are comparitively more advanced in the Firefly future than now. 2. Human modifications have to be grounded in some current fact, or at least a reasonable supposition, with telepathy being the notable exception. For instance, unlike in Buffy, it's not reasonable to assume that slender woman is ten times stronger than a normal human. One might be stronger or weaker than is visibly gauged (through frame, musclature, etc.), but not to so great a degree. My guesses: 1. Superior coordination and balance...helpful to quickly adapt to unfamilar weaponry. 2. More than usual fast twitch muscles. Speed, particularly in a world with guns, is very important. Being able to draw, target (being psychic would help), and attack an opponent before they can do the same would be nice. 3. Flexibility. Very nice for stealthy stuff (e.g. scrambling up walls in the academy), kicking, etc. 4. Boosted immune system, for handing minor injuries, toxins, etc. 5. Better than average vision, touch, hearing and smell. Thoughts?

Found a Beta!
Thursday, 09 March 2006 20:38:31

Does that make me an alpha? LOL Had one of our illustrious (sp?) members read over my fic and critiqued it all to hell. But it was what I asked for and what the damn thing needed. I AM just an amatuer and I need some quick catch-up to make my writing even passable. I may be an adult, but my writing is in its infancy. Despite hearing that your fic sucked (my words, not hers) what she did really helped me see what it was that the piece was missing. Having no formal training in writing, I'm having to take shortcuts. Lots of 'em. Oh, and I recommend NEVER having your writing gone over by an english teacher unless you are fully prepared for the consequences. Considering I'm a teacher myself (usually), it's a bit easier for me to take the criticism. But if you're not prepared for it, it sure as hell can make you feel about three inches tall and like your writing should have wound up in the trash and not where others can read it. Take a look at wether or not the help I've gotten has improved the fic at all:

Worst Movie Sequel Ever!
Thursday, 09 March 2006 22:21:01

First of all I must thank all who commented on my last post. It makes me happy that there are so many good hearted people here. So...I have a bad habit of wathcing movies from my library. Not really a bad habit, but one that makes me make less than smart choices due to the fact that my local library has FEW DVD's (really need to get my VCR working again). So I watched The Pricess Diaries 2 the other night and I realized it must be damn hard for anyone to come up with original ideas these days. That movied sucked so hard I just know that the horses in it wished they had been in something else. Why does Hollywood take the time to make sequels like that, but when we have a great movie like Serentiy the chances of us getting a sequel are little to none. It just makes me want to scream. I know that my brain has lost a few cells through suicide while watching that movie. But I now understand fully what Joss means by pacing. A movie needs to be properly paced and set up and this one was not. Cute, but only if you are a really young girl who likes princesses. ( I was rarely a girl when I was younger and I never wante d to be a princess. I always wanted to be the prince because he always got the shiny horse. Life is not fair.) So for anyone who has read this whole thing, I apologize, but I just had to rant. That movie drove me nuts. I ended up rewatching Jaynestown just to purge my mind. Well, and to see Adam's wonderful chest. MMMMMM, Jayne hairyness......I'll be in my bunk. Rae

Tomorrow is one of my best nights for TV it's SCI-FI friday and I get to see some of my favorite SCI-FI series including Battlestar Galactica. I like Sci-fi's version of this old series. I like the slant they put on the cylons some of which now look human. Oh well, I guess that's it for now

I think I'm coming to a fic realization
Friday, 10 March 2006 05:02:21

I was writing out a scene with Niska for the next chapter of my fic. It's probably the best scene I've written so far, spent a great deal of time on it and rewrote it once. It occured to me that with revision the fic will not be nearly as trite as I think it's coming across. I really, really wanted to work in the Men in Blue, but why? Niska is brilliant because we don't see too much of him. I loved writing him, I loved writing him so much that I had to go and write the second scene that I'm going to have him in after I finished the first. But it also made me realize something, using the characters simply for the sake of using them cheapens the writing. I'm not sure where this puts me, I think I will press forward with the third chapter for now. I'd really like to get the scene with Niska out there and floating around. But after that I'm going to have to take a serious look at the first scene in my second chapter. I need to prioritize getting a handle on Early. Comments said they liked the idea of his being in the story, and much thanks to those who read and enjoyed, but now I'd be doing a disservice to leave it as is. Well, I'm off to plug in Objects in Space again, see Early some more and try my best to capture his essence.

thoughts on getting older, inspiration and gratitude
Friday, 10 March 2006 05:32:44

When you turn 30, things seem pretty much set. It's not cool, like turning 17 and getting your driver's license, nor is it like turning 21 when it's ok to drink. When I turned 30 about 6 months ago, it was much more traumatizing, lonely, and final. You name it: your flaws, routines, opinions, credit history, career, work habits, health, where you fit in in this world of ours - all of these have either already reared their ugly heads or have fully established themselves by 30. Your body starts to get all sorts of odd aches and pains for no good reason. You start losing the people you love from age, disease or sickness. Your friends start changing and somewhere along the way, you discover the embarrassing, crazy parents you once knew really weren't too crazy after all. Let's face it. The world has a way of draining you and turning you into Yet Another Mindless Drone. People get bummed out, they doubt themselves, they feel lost and forget who they are, the things they were once capable of, and the good they can do. I should know - it's happened to me. All of this may sound corny to whomever is reading this, but screw it. It's my blog and those sentimental enough to read this far probably have some idea what I'm talking about. After watching Firefly and the BDM, I was inspired to draw and write again after giving it up for an engineering degree and a tech career. It's hard to believe I gave that up 13 years ago (!). I also started to appreciate what I have around me on a different level. Getting older may suck, but it's got some positive attributes. I'm old enough to better appreciate the friends and family I have, yet I'm young enough to still have most of them around. I'm not sure if anyone will ever read this, but whatever - I'm glad Joss Whedon had the stones to come forward and pour his heart and soul into Firefly and Serenity. Thank you. Your courage has paid off. You've truly done a great thing. I'm glad his people believed in it enough to make it happen and spread the good word (this includes the community here at FFF.net). Finally, to the crew of Serenity, great work. Many times, I could swear I was there with you on every job, aiming to misbehave. That's about all I really wanted to say. Alright, I better call it a night if I want to hit the gym tommorrow..

Triple organ recipient dies March 10, 2006 AUSTRALIA'S first triple organ transplant recipient has died in Brisbane. Cystic fibrosis sufferer Jason Grey, 28, died today at the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane, a hospital spokeswoman said. Mr Grey underwent a heart, double lung, and liver transplant in August 2003. The hospital spokeswoman said he died as a result of complications with his lungs. Mr Grey moved to Brisbane from Sydney with his mother Debbie in 2001 to await a donor. "Jason didn't have a life before the transplant," Mrs Grey said at the time of his operation. "He couldn't go anywhere or do anything." Sorry this story really struck me. Jason probably appreciated those two extra years of life than some people do with their entire life, including myself

Internet is not and some stuff about my drawings
Friday, 10 March 2006 13:02:49

Hey, guys, the internet's been acting screwy and not letting me post, or do much else for that matter..seems to be ok now...gah... Had a lot of messages regarding how I do what I do ..so here goes for the new fans... The brush and ink drawings are drawn on strathmoor 3 ply kid finish and are usually no larger then 10x15 (standard comic book size)I usually rough in drawing from whatever source with a 2h pencil. Then using anywhere from a #2 to a #5 watercolor brush I start inking...after it's done I scan it and using some homemade tone screens I add the zip pattern, add a border and my name (If I can remember to) A finished piece takes about two to three hours.. The sepia toned ones are first sketched on a sepia toned (again no larger then 10x15) paper with a 2h pencil. Then using any number pencil down to 8b I start the darks..These are applied very loosely and then blended with various size stumps..lately I've found that with a softer pencil the tones seem to slide around more..that gives it a more painterly feeling to the piece. When the darks are done I spray the whole thing with a workable fixative and the start applying the whites..I've been using 2b white conte lately...the early ones were chalk but the whites wore off to fast..Then I scan the drawing into the computer add a border and my name..this takes about four hours or less I'm always surprised at what a piece looks like after I post it..most of the time it several tones lighter then the original... Thanks to everyone here for all the positive feedback and even for the critical ones..Hey, It's all just lines on paper, and were all fans here...

Episode 2
Friday, 10 March 2006 21:11:04

Okay, here's my continuation of my imaginary second season of Firefly. As my internet access has been limited of late, I am posting four of the five chapters at once. When I am content with chapter 5, it will shortly thereafter be posted. Hope you enjoy, and keep up the feedback! Thanks!

Stalled....
Saturday, 11 March 2006 00:54:49

poo. I'm totally stalled on the next part of my story Choices... the closer I get to the end, the harder it's becoming to write. And the really frustrating thing is, that for once I actually know how this is going to end!! I've got the climax all figured out, have had it for a long while now, but the getting there is proving really difficult, and I don't know why. Maybe it's because I want to be writing the ending, I dunno... but I just can't seem to get anything 'on paper'. This whole week, I've done maybe 100 words! I had hoped the weekly challenge might've unblocked me, but it isn't looking like it. I'm very frustrated... Also, I'm starting to feel a bit down about the story in general, because I'm starting to realize I'm not writing it as efficiently as I should be... and I'm doing too much 'telling' instead of 'showing'... But how do you ask someone to beta a piece of work that is already several thousand words long?? I've never had a beta, but one can only edit their own work so well... on the otherhand, I'm always so impatient after getting a part written, I don't know how I could wait before posting it... :o) Guess I'm hopeless... I'm very thankful for all the shiny comments everyone has left me, and if I haven't said so after some parts, I really am. I appreciate every single one, and it really boosts my spirits and helps me to keep at it... just wish I could restart the engines :o/

Hey
Saturday, 11 March 2006 03:06:49

Hey there! I'll probably never write in this blog again. I've got blogs going other places and I find that I don't use them much. Probably because I'm a boring person. I could either ramble about things nobody wants to hear, or I can not write in it at all. Not very good options, is it? Anyhow, I just didn't want to leave my blog totally entryless because it'd just be such a waste. And who knows, maybe I'll write in here again? It might be boring, but it's not like I'm forcing anyone to read it.

Reaver Philosophy for the Bias mind
Saturday, 11 March 2006 03:34:57

Dark void, vacuum is space Calling Screaming the Dying, Reavers Pledge Peal away the strips of rotted flesh Screaming, howling inhuman Holding us binding us to our conformity Animal’s blood-thirsty cannibals Providing all that we Fear Feed upon the death of that corps cage The carnage a blazing rage To free your self from that life you took Take the bullet to the brain Gouge out the eyes of our deception Blood dripping Flesh ripping Bring forth the an infants resurrection May they see the world a new? Slanderous tongue of moral corruption A void of space insurrection I tore thee from my body Lo behold my soul is cleansed of you A product of….. Hooked new recruit - well, Joss did.....
Saturday, 11 March 2006 06:52:52

Went on a 1st date tonight (whoo-hoo, right?) & made him watch Serenity - hey, he said he liked science fiction, so I decided to perform a little test.....& he passed with flying colors - he's totally hooked. As a true Sci-Fi fan would be......... I know Joss never has time to read these silly Blogs (what a word - makes me think of swamps) - but I gotta thank him for the show & movie anyway - even though he won't "hear" me! :) Now my erstwhile date is determined to watch the entire FireFly series with me (no problem, I own 2 sets, just in case one wears out), & if he turns out to be a total bore (T.G. he doesn't have this site address) it's not a problem - it gives me a good excuse to rewatch the show. Just kidding, he's not a bore. I'm positive he'll buy both the movie & series himself (he's already committed to buying Serenity) - so, NEW RECRUIT! My family & friends all own their own sets of the FireFly series & the Serenity movie, since we're not too willing to share (we all share other series, but not this one...), and although we have very busy lives, we somehow manage to find time for the series, after all - you have to have your priorities straight. Right, Browncoats? :) If I'm boring you with my rambling, didn't mean to - I don't post any other Blogs, never use chat sites - so I decided to babble away here & see what would happen. Hopefully nothing explodes.

A couple of good songs....
Saturday, 11 March 2006 07:14:04

Was listening to some music a coworker of mine brought in to work today... she's into country and bluegrass and there were a couple of songs in what she played for me that I swear could almost have been written specifically for Firefly... they certainly speak to me, so I thought I'd share the titles and lyrics for anyone interested! This first one is just SO River to me, it's amazing. It's called Falling Into You, and would work great for a vid, could focus on Simon and River, or could even be worked as a Mal/River or Jayne/River I'm sure if that's your thing... It's by Kasey Chambers, who's a definate country artist, though this song isn't particularly country... Worth a listen:

Damn faces!
Saturday, 11 March 2006 18:41:19

How do u draw gorram faces?!?!?! lol I notice some other people have problems with um to so any tips on drawin faces, particularly River's, would be appreciated by all.

Even Firefly isn't helping
Saturday, 11 March 2006 23:29:40

I am terribly sick, and it's been raining for two days. And I have to go to work every night from 6 - 11. During the day I lay in bed having nightmares (with scary monsters). Now yesterday I thought I'd start feeling better because of the marathon on Scifi. Thought it'd cheer me up, and help me get over this gorram flu. But no such luck, watched all the way through Jaynestown before I had to go to work, and still felt like go se. Though I did mubble something along the lines of, "The human body can be drained of blood in 8.5 seconds given adiquite vacumeing systems" at my friends while we waited for the actors to finish mic checks.

Yay!
Sunday, 12 March 2006 01:10:06

Today was a beautiful day! It was finally warm enough to go outside without a coat on. It was wonderful! Also, my friend just finished FF and made a grumbly comment about how she seems to be getting more obbsessed with it by the minute. She seems to think it was my fault for introducing her to it. We also started creating our own fantasy world. It's called Sarnin. It is growing very fast. All in all it was a very good day.

Costumes at FIDM
Sunday, 12 March 2006 01:54:49

THe costumes from Serentiy are on display at the FIDM museum in LA. I got to see them today. It was great. I'm all inspired to submerge myself in Firefly again.

2320 hrs - Enough of being serious.
Sunday, 12 March 2006 13:01:12

Scanning through Fireflyfans.net as I have been a new recruit. It has been interesting to say the least - checked out some interesting threads and dropped a note or two. Any how enough serious thought and contemplating the universe and the meaning of life for one day. Am now sitting back relaxing listening to some Elvis Costello tunes and partaking of that mystic elixer SABLE. Looking forward to hitting the bunk. Postscript: Decided to stay up and get into some Jethro Tull as well, HeHe.

Mal's Pistol
Sunday, 12 March 2006 18:29:23

Well I have sent several e-mails to various people trying to obtain a replica or reproduction of Mal's pistol but to no avail. I don't know if the adresses are wrong or if I am just being ignored...lol. Can anyone help me to obtain one?

Sunday, 12 March 2006 23:54:26

all I can say is wow... I missed firefly when it happened and only found out about the show and movie this summer. I have now seen all of the above and I say.. "ohmigod I can't believe I missed this" Best damn show I have ever seen.

Pilot episode... parallels Battlestar Galactica?
Monday, 13 March 2006 00:54:04

I just recently watched the Firefly TV series again, for the 5th time. The original pilot "Serenity" showed a downtrodden world where they picked up Book and the Doc. Then last night, I noticed Battlestar Galactica used a similar setting when they "settled" New Caprica! Firefly fans should be glad that such good shows are getting the hint as to what we want to watch. Check out what I said @

Steady... Think about it...
Monday, 13 March 2006 01:11:24

Steady... Think about it... My right hand is shakin likea leaf on a tree... I wonder can we move both ships together maybe even fullburn outta here... Boogers got this strange look on his face like he heard what I was thinkin... He hollers to Evans " Captian wants ta know if we can fullburn with the ships docked like they are?'' Was I thinkin out loud? Evans asks am I crazy or plain stupid... I dont know how ta answer... "Well can we or not?" I heard myself that time I know. Evans says The docks are not designed to with stand such stress... It could rip us both apart if we do a fullburn... " Can we even manuver around maybe make the reavers work a little harder for thier meal?"... Evans came back" One way or another we may die , but Im for given them a run for thier money..." Funny he should mention MONEY... "How far out are they Lou"? My question was rewarded with a sudden shakin of both ships. " Start backin us away slow at first Lou then gradually increase speed we gotta do somthin here I aint wantin ta be a main course tonight"... Booger and I make our way to the other gunnery chairs and prepare to give the SOB's a bloody nose. We are take hits pretty hard and the reavers are commin close ta make a grab at us. Just what I wanted targets to hit with out aimin... I yelled over the intercom " Give'm hell boys" The Cannons popped out and I got three shots into the secound reaver ship close to us before it turned in to a ball of fire Im drawin a bead on the Biggest Reaver ship out there squeezin the trigger and feelin the weapon recoil seven or eight times makin the reaver ship slow up a little but its still commin at us... Booger and Drew have sent a few reavers on to reaver hell... The reloader has finished wth my Cannon and I cram another three shots into the big reaver ship it starts ta veer to port and rams the ship next to it... Suddenly we take a hit I say we but it was the other ship thats got my ship held captive that takes the hit...I wonder if anyones alive down there...I sure as hell cant stop ta go lookin for survivors now can I? Ouch! it takes another hit! Well so much for survivors... I holler at Evans ta go ta fullburn we cant take no more of this and ammo is runnin low...I sure as hell aint gonna be on the menu at a Reaver BBQ...

Monday, 13 March 2006 15:24:09

...even a snickers won't fix it. for those of you who are not currently sharing a telepathic bond with or are the mad little leprechaun that lives in my head and tells me to do stuff, i'll explain. today i: + got told i was too stupid to take the higher course in not one, but two subjects. + had gritty snowballs smushed in my hair and shoved down my school shirt, which instantly went see-through and soaked my school blazer. not a good look in front of the really hot guy who sits behind you in english. + discovered a hole in each boot. by stepping in a puddle. + broke a nail (oh, big b-o-o h-o-o, i know, but i am completely and utterly fed up so i'm allowed to put that on the list, 'kay? thought so ) and worst of all, i can't even get a comfort hug from my mum 'cause she's working. i have to face telling my dad i'm dumb all by myself. i know how this is gonna end: i'm gonna tell him i got dropped. he's gonna tell me i haven't been working hard enough. it's gonna escalate into this massive row about my future and one of us is going to cry. most likely me. oh well. *scarfs third snickers bar* b

Ok.....I dont know what the hell im doing

No writing, just flanning
Monday, 13 March 2006 21:34:13

Been chatting with MalNourished an awful lot lately. She and FollowMal have got yahoo messenger and we're becoming quite the trio. That's what's so nice about Browncoats. There isn't that nerdiness or geekiness about it and browncoats are always so nice. Not like those Trekkies and Trekkers. Laid back, sittin easy. Just like the 'verse. Been getting psyched for this Moonlight Rising convention. I've already got Jaynesbunkwoman converted and she's now going too. I've been trying to do some of my viral marketing a bit. I'd say one ticket means it is working at least a little! Got some entirely excellent news today. Best ever. The girls over at Appreciatin' Nathan board are doing up tee-shirts and we wanted to give one to Nathan. Looks like I'll get a chance to give it to him. This whole convention thing has me floored. I've been to about three conventions before. Two Creation Conventions and one Blake's 7 Convention. The Blake's 7 one was more like this Moonlight Rising one, but mom and I couldn't stay overnight. I heard rumors about big-ass parties and crazy goings-on. Being a teenager at the time (like 14!) I'm now old enough to become a part of that and I'm seriously looking forward to it. I've never had good seating and never even thought that I'd be speaking to the chairperson of the event. And here I am, already spoken to the chairperson on the phone and reserved seating! It's friggin awesome. Sometimes I just can't believe it. If I'm having this much fun leading up to the gorram thing, I can only imagine what fun I'm going to have actually AT the convention with my crew there!

I'm Back
Tuesday, 14 March 2006 02:57:23

Ok, I'm back home and working on new fanart. I'm thinking a Kaylee or Zoe collage for my next post. What do y'all think? I also have to say that I've realized just how completely obbsessed I am with FF. Ya see, I was at a friends house and they brought out a mug for tea. It had some writing on it. What I saw: Two by two, hands of blue. What it really said: Five foot two, eyes of blue. They're some kind of old song lyrics but all I saw was creepy guys in blue gloves. This just proves that there is no hope for me, I am completely lost.

GORRAM REAVERS! -- The Boardgame!
Tuesday, 14 March 2006 04:40:39

Yep! That's right, I finally did it. Finally invented a game like no other in the 'Verse. GORRAM REAVERS! is the one game, where you are the Reavers! :pissed: You get to travel the border and rim worlds collecting victims while avoiding the Alliance, and more importantly, avoiding SERENITY! There's even a 90-pound girl who will show up and pulverize your raiding party unexpectedly! The game is also different everytime you play. Setup is completely random, so the board is never the same, and things change as you play the game! Population moves from one moon to another, through salvaging a Reaver ship can gain a larger Pack capacity, and an entire planet can even become a Blackrock and destroy all that lovely food potential! Additionally, to add a little lightheartedness, I went the route of making Reaver Packs using the SouthPark Studios character generator and did a little editing of my own on them, so hopefully I won't be getting letters about gorram nightmares or people pissin' themselves. You can see them in their cannibalistic glory here:

LDTT
Tuesday, 14 March 2006 11:21:23

Can everyone with access to a scanner create a letter with name, location and a small paragraph as to why you would like the Firefly/Serenity series to continue. Please sign the bottom of this letter and email to me at hasco3000@hotmail.co.uk. The letters will all be mailed to all of the major television networks when a significant number are collected. There is no obligation to do this, but it is a sure-fire way of getting Firefly on their radar. LDTT - Let's do this together. Entries would be best in .pdf format (Adobe Acrobat)

Im now in agreement with many of you Browncoats ...
Tuesday, 14 March 2006 12:13:04

... Out of Gas has become my favourite episode. I must have watched it five times in the last week. It's got all the aspects that makes Firefly great. Man, televison needs more shows like this!

Act like an adult "Young Lady"......
Tuesday, 14 March 2006 13:39:39

Boy, how many times have we heard that phrase? (Please feel free to replace "Young Lady" with "Son" if you're a guy reading this.) I never thought about this time in my life. You always think about growing up, and, no one did much tell you what you could encounter in your travels, nor much prepare you. Just never gave it a thought I'd have to do this one-day. I'm trying to find housing and/or any kind of assistance be it medical, food or whatever, for my birth mother, yeah birth mother. My father and mother split when I was very young. Lived with my dad my whole life and didn't really have the best relationship with my birth mother growing up. (The reason I call her birth mother is because my stepmother did adopt me, and step-mom is my mother. So for the sake of saying, I will refer to birth mother as "L.") "L" has always needed someone to take care of her. Didn't graduate high school so, not educated so much. Relied on her first husband to take care of things while she raised two kids. This is not a bad thing, she just didn't know how to do anything, was never taught. Once that marriage was over she struggled until she found someone else to take care of her. That was when she lost us to my dad. She did remarry and had a daughter from that marriage. "L" has since divorced from that marriage, but had my sister to rely on. My sister and "L" never separated, not once. Now they live together 5 years, 10, 20 30, and, for I don't know what reason, they have decided to live apart. "L" doesn't collect much money; she has since retired so she is entitled to her Social Security and a small pension from the company she retired from. Sister called me last week and said that "L" was having trouble paying bills and buying prescriptions. In researching her information I discovered that "L" only makes $25 dollars more than her rent is a month. Add on top of that, a $250 heating bill, phone, groceries, gas, etc. she has no money. None! So, here is where I play adult, I've since collected all the information from "L" I think I will need to make a case for her to get some sort of assistance. I've called the Department of Elderly affairs and am now trying to set up an appointment to have someone meet with us. I say I'm playing adult because "L" had all this information and was to meet with someone but, because she is afraid to speak to people, because she get anxious when folk start talking over her head, she becomes confused and very, very upset. I guess she needs me to rely on now, to take care of her, and I guess I will. So I will play adult. After all she is my mother. I do love her and can't see her live on the streets. But why couldn't my sister do this? Hmm………Dunno. Maybe she just got tired. Looks like I'll be playing adult for her too one day. Or, wait, I'm older, hope she takes good notes through all this. I just might need her to rely on one day. Thanks for listening.

Hockey BDM moment
Tuesday, 14 March 2006 13:53:06

So, last night I had a hockey game. At one point I carried the puck in close and took a shot (it'd be cooler if I scored, but it just went off the side of the net.) Then a defense(wo)men on the other team pushed me from behind and I crashed into the goalie and knocked the net off its moorings. The ref whistled the play dead to fix the net, and the center on the other team (who's a good friend) immediate came up and asked the goalie "Are you okay?" So I turned around and said "Is she okay?" No one got it. *sigh*

Umpteen times...
Tuesday, 14 March 2006 14:32:10

Okay, I have now watched Serenity for the umpteenth time (I like that technical term by the way) and I was wondering why it was that every time I watched it I noticesomething new and different. I guess that's what I can watch it umpteen times and not be bored.

Lalalala....
Tuesday, 14 March 2006 17:26:02

Howdy, friends! Doubt anyone's gunna see this pointless entry...but just in case! Haha... ...still have no idea how to use emoticons on here, but oh well... ....what's new with me? Hmm....in the "Serenity/Firefly" 'verse, not much....just out scrounging (sp?) the web for more juicy Firefly stuff! Haha. "Juicy". Yup...yup.....Love yall! -hannie00

I just heard that some of the songs from the Bedlam Bards' Firefly-tribute album _On the Drift_ have been added to the rotation at www.Filk.com. Gorram WIND!
Tuesday, 14 March 2006 21:42:10

So, had to mail a letter to the US of A today, so stopped at the post office to get a stamp. Just as I opened my door, a gust of wind tore it out of my hand and it hit the door of the car beside me... not hard mind, but enough to leave a little kiss of my paint on it... Well, wouldnt' that have been the exact moment that the owner of that brand new shiny car was walking right to it, saw it happen, and then, because it was her brand new car, wanted to swap info... She was young, and a brand new car... so I can understand, but I highly doubt the insurance company is going to pay for her door to be repainted for a tiny scratch.... regardless, we took a picture with our cell phone, just to ensure that she couldnt' claim anymore damage than was done, and swapped info... Put me in a right pissy mood... thank God I have this place to come to cheer me up....

Why do I let them hurt me?
Tuesday, 14 March 2006 23:02:35

Y'know, I think I might have finally had the big ephiphany regarding the current state of comics today. Over at DC, Wonder Woman is snapping people's necks and the whole Justice League is mind-raping super villains. Superman (or at least Earth-2 Superman, it's complicated) wants to destroy the world. Over at Marvel, we have yet more pointless character deaths and idiotic stunts. Is it really believable that the entire superhero community of the Planet Earth would decide to up and start killing each other over government legislation? Does it make any sense for people who live and fight together, daily, to come to blows overnight for no real reason? Oh wait, I forgot, a bunch of the characters who HAVE NEVER SHOWN ANY KIND OF MACHIAVELLIAN TRAITS have been secretly meeting up and making dark and sinister plans, darkly and sinisterly. Plus, look at Spidey's new costume. Blech. Bottom line, I think they've finally broken me. I'm gonna start phasing comics out of my life now. At least, the new ones. I loves me the DC cartoons, and I'm going to start picking up Marvel's great Eseentials line (reprinting of 20 or so back issues of great characters like Spider-Man and the X-Men at a pop) and enjoy the characters for what they were. That, and I've always got Tobey Maguire's Spidey to keep me company. Thank God for Sam Raimi. On a totally unrelated note now that I've cathartically bared my sould to any reader interested in seeing this, I will shamelessly plug my fanfic! The first eight stories are already up in the BSR (check my profile, it's easier than linking) and the last story, Book's Tale, is in editing right now. With luck, it'll be up by week's end!

FIRST FOUND
Wednesday, 15 March 2006 00:29:29

I first found out about Firefly this weekend at a friends house. And MAN this is what the original Star Trek should have been like. And its believable humans screwing up earth enough to have to leave her. Needs a little work on explaining mechanical things but with 1 season LOOK AT WHAT THEY DID. I am now more Brown Coat than Trekie

Welp!
Wednesday, 15 March 2006 00:33:06

I've been rather quiet for the past few days.. because i've been trapped on the verge of exhaustion.. simply put.. i've bought firefly... and now not only am i addicted but so is my spousal unit. Now that might not sound so bad BUT i have to be at work at 5am.. which means i get up at 3:15am. He works later than i do.. and now each evening he puts on firefly.. and i can't just go to SLEEP!! while it's on.. i always get hooked and start watching.. and each night i end up going to sleep around 10-11pm. which doesn't sound so late but when i have to get up 4 or 5 hours later.. every night.. i am SO tired.. and it's currently 7:30pm and.. guess what, firefly is on. Looks like another late night. In addition to watching every episode a few times.. i've also been working on learning the chinese ...

Flying High - Hooked on this song!!!
Wednesday, 15 March 2006 03:08:56

I am absolutely in love with Flying High by Jem... had never heard it until I watched Wiccanslyr's Mal/Inara vid, and I have been in love with it since (go watch the vid if you haven't seen it, btw, it's soooo nice). Now, I've got the guitar tab so I can learn to play this song, only, I have a really hard time hitting the highest note during the chorus when I try to sing it, which is so frustrating ;o) I'll have to try to harmonize it I guess... Anyway, it's a lovely song... I'm totally head over heels for it... So I guess this is a shout out to Wiccanslyr to say thanks for makin' that vid with this song... you rock!

Virtual Seasons and other common fanfiction related things
Wednesday, 15 March 2006 04:47:21

Well, I'm working on an essay for one of the topics I posted in my first blog (oh, and if anyone asks, no, these are not for school. The last community I joined, I wrote essays and posted them on the forum, then got chewed out because they sounded like assignments. So, just to make it clear, it's just that I'm a boring writer, not that I writer for teachers), but I thought I'd post a shorter piece about my thoughts on fan fiction in general, and the two virtual season projects in specific, and my favorite fanfiction writer in very specific. First to say, I love the idea of many people collaborating to create extended and lasting additions to the 'verse, canonical or no (and having been part of no less than three fanfiction writing communities, though never having written myself, I know that canon is a tricky issue). As far as I know, there are two attempts to accomplish this: Firefly - The Virtual Seasons, and Virtual Firefly. Both have merit, and both are impressive. "Serenity is not freedom from the storm, but peace amid the storm" Thus reads the tagline for The Virtual Seasons. Though I believe it's the newer of the two efforts, I found it first at Firefly Talk (yay!). It just got a review from The Signal, which is what actually prompted this blog thingy. Though the output is impressive, and their artwork stunning (I especially loved the parallel Simons in the teaser for the first episode, Angel Echoes), I'd have to say that my enthusiasm for this project has waned a bit. The episodes are well planned, and I really appreciated the goal of connecting the series to the film, but I feel the writing quality isn't the highest I've ever read in the fanfic world (which can be seen in their tagline, actually. Though the concept is nice, based on the last lines of the film, "but peace amid the storm" adds unnecessary parallels in a phrase too short to bear the weight of such a structure. It breaks the flow, makeing the line feel clunky and static. Can I write a better one? Not sure, but I think "Serenity is not freedom from the storm, but peace in its midst" sounds better to me). Also, this is something of a preferance thing, but the directions the producers are taking the sereis is darker and more unpleasent than I enjoy. Not to say that I dislike dark, but there is a limit. Examples of this are found in the second episode, Heart and Sole, which has major "sly" elements for no apparent reason. Other such things are Mal's drugged statement to Inara in the most recent episode "Mixed Nuts" (which has a great premise, by the way, and some wonderful heroic Simon) that he has no problem with her job, just with her having that job. Now, this may be so, but it's strictly speculative, and the way the statement is included in an offhand manner with no reference to the issues involved (see Shindig or Heart of Gold) is frustrating. A minor detail which has added to my problems is the way the writers seem to be a bit fast and loose inventing details - in five episodes, we've met Inara's mother and Kaylee's family (but more on the Kaylee's family thing later)[Oh, and sorry for all the paranthetical comments, I just don't know where to put all these things]{Sorry for using "thing" so much too}. New Zoe/Wash video
Wednesday, 15 March 2006 09:28:59

My wife requested "a Zoe/Wash vid to 'Straight To You' by Nick Cave." Two weeks, ten migranes, and one new music video software program later, it's done. And angsty. Enjoy. Oh, thar be movie spoilers here, obviously.

Still a Crybaby ;p
Wednesday, 15 March 2006 14:07:59

Yup, I must be a glutton for punishment or something. Another two nights off, and on my last night I decided "oh what the frell, it's 3:00am and nothing's on the TV, why don't I put in Serenity again?" It's turning into like a weekly ritual now. I keep saying I'm not going to see it until I've rewatched the series in order again, but then every week... in goes the DVD ;p Sure, I prefer the series for the usual reasons, and I've a couple minor gripes with the movie in some places (not really Joss's fault, really, just the normal problems I'd imagine you'd have trying to translate so much story into under two hours.) Anyways, this is like the fifth or sixth time I've seen the BDM, and that last half hour still gets me every time. I won't go into spoilers, but man... weep fest ;p (Then I go online, and think I'll dig up some fan videos, and of course the first two I go to are 'Leaf on the Wind' and 'A Tiny Grief Song'... so there went the waterworks again... :) Almost have my lunchbox done. Most of the inks are finished-ish, and had to scrap a couple things and start from scratch, but so it goes ;p Still a little rusty with my inking, and normally I'd let it go, but it was Kaylee's sweet little smile I'd screwed up and I just couldn't let that go ;) (But at least I've been able to hold myself back and not turn it into the Kaylee lunchbox it almost was... that's for the next one I suppose :) Hopefully I'll have something to put up sometime next week. I've got my transfer paper and other supplies, so I'm tentatively going to try my first transfer today, and do some experimenting; see if I need to change anything, etc. Thanks to all for the positive comments I've gotten from my posts in the Blue Sun Room, and help with looking for screencaps: most helpful ;p :stupid:

Thanks
Wednesday, 15 March 2006 17:27:29

Thanks for the comments, everybody. I'm really enjoying writing this, and chapter five will be coming very shortly for Episode 2. I don't know how many episodes I'm going to write, but plan on a whole imaginary second season (ending with a second movie). Hey, I don't have much of a life

Another appology
Wednesday, 15 March 2006 22:48:22

I'm sorry my story is lagging, but Chapter 2 just refuses to be written as an entity unto itself. I've tried convincing it that all the cool chapters are out being written but NOOOO...stupid uncooporative Chapter 2. Don't worry, it'll get written, weather it likes it or not. HA!

No More Blue Gloves
Wednesday, 15 March 2006 23:00:41

Yep. We finally ran out of blue gloves where I work. Instead we have teal. Not so much fun now. Can't way the rhyme any more. Oh well. Now must find something else at work to ease my troubled mind. HA! In my mind are some ideas for fics. But I am not sure if I dare tread out into that vast land. It is a fertile land with many shiny writers and I would hate to suffer the slings and arrows of outraged reader. HHHMMMM...maybe I will finally learn to play with Photoshop instead. Yes. That is more than likely the most prudent idea. And who knows. I may have to eventually write up an idear in my head. I am sorry, but Jayne has done something to my brain. It is so totally warped. The captain makes me think pure and wonderful thoughts of love and such...but Jayne just makes me lust. And lust is really a great motivator right now. I'll be in my bunk. Rae

Hooray for Hollywood Video!
Wednesday, 15 March 2006 23:38:51

I was at my local video store today, and I noticed that they FINALLY have the Firefly boxset for rental. I'm just so proud of them. No, they didn't have it when I needed, but now it is there to entice future Browncoats to the 'verse. I know this is random but it just made me smile, plus it made up for the girl at the counter being a complete dullard, but that's another story

Hi all. Just want to tell those that don't know, in April's Sci-fi magazine (available now) there is an article on Slither and some good timey pictures, Can't wait to see this movie, being a HUGE horror movie fan, but I especially love the horror/comedy combo. It's gonna be good, slimey times! Plus, we all gotta support our Captain, right? RIGHT!!!

Michigan Browncoats
Thursday, 16 March 2006 04:00:45

Hey everyone who lives in the Metro Detroit area drop me a line (Titania828@aol.com). My friends and I are always looking for more crazy firefly fans to have shindigs with and my boyfriend is looking for a group do some roleplaying with. Any way, Michigan Browncoats rock!

Fanfic added, writing's ok.
Thursday, 16 March 2006 04:56:52

I'm probably not doing this the correct way. I'm posting before I edit or submit to my beta. Oh well. Today sucked IRL and wanted to feel good about continuing my writing. So there it is. I know it's not professional. It's quippy and done in short installments. I know it's got failings, but again, these are my baby steps. Yes, I'm purposely digging for compliments to decide wether or not I want to pursue this on a larger scale. Am I a whore? Absolutely. And I'm not afraid of admitting it. Pay me in compliments, I will feel good enough to continue. LOL Ok, next part, instead of putting down my work, I want to show you what I like about it. I can SEE and HEAR everything I'm making the characters do. I look at the television in my head and they're saying the lines, doing the motions, thinking those thoughts. One thing I worry about is wether or not the reader has the same reaction. IRL: Things are not going well. Mom's sick, grandmom's sick, other grandmom's sick, and my son's got a fever. Hubby's upset because I'm a grump and stressed. And as usual, the only bright spot is Firefly. On a happier note, I met a Browncoat today. Not my friend or my mom. A stranger! I was wearing the Serenity shirt from Hot Topic and walked into the bank today. He commented that he liked my shirt, asked me if I was a Browncoat and commented that there was another brown shirt from Hot Topic. I assured him I already owned that one too and told him all about Moonlight Rising and about us seeing Nathan. I even dropped him my e-mail and this website with my screen name on here. Here's hoping he finds me. :)

Pride
Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:36:50

I am so proud of my daughter today! While driving her to school, she sang along to the Ballad of Serenity with me! Only the first verse...but it was enough! There were almost tears I was so choked!

We Share A Brain: Love for Browncoats!
Thursday, 16 March 2006 18:49:16

This is my first blog ever! I don't really know how this is supposed to go, and I'm feelin' a mite sappy today so bear with me. I want to start my blogging career with a dedication to all the Browncoats on this site! I don't know what it is about Firefly that attracts such wonderful people and makes us into a family. It seems that falling in love with the 'verse causes people to excrete some sort of glue that draws us together and makes us stick, and it works fast! Fast like a freak! (*nod* to FM, and K) We're like family in so many ways--we care, we fight, we worry, we chat for hours at a time on YIM. (What? Your fam doesn't do that?) We even have those extended family members who we only see when they're drunk and causing a ruckus at somebody's wedding. As I write this, I am thinking about FollowMal and Kaele in particular. We're thick as thieves these days, and it's all manner of shiny. I look forward to chatting with these girls every day (who am I kidding? MULTIPLE times per day!), and to tell you the truth, I couldn't ask for better formerly conjoined sisters with whom I once shared a brain. Browncoats are the best folk in the 'verse, and I hope that we can bring more into our strange little fold.

What's wrong with me?
Thursday, 16 March 2006 19:08:07

Today is a bad day. I don't know why, I just woke up with it. I hate it when I get like this. I feel all numb and hollow. Nothing matters and and I just...I don't know. I just don't like it. It's worse then feeling depressed because then I at least feel something. This is like being surrounded by a thick, dead fog. There's nothing to see or touch or do and I can't see a way out. The occasional thought that gets through the fog is not of the cheering sort. You know, stuff like "what's the point" or "I'm a useless piece of sh** screw up". Anyway, I'm hoping fiddling around in here will help. I love the community here so maybe...I hope. My hopes are not high though. Sorry for the major down note. ... ... Later

Jam Delivery Device
Thursday, 16 March 2006 20:10:43

This past weekend we went into the city for what I refer to as my "sanity recharge." One of the repercussions of this, since we go grocery shopping on Sat., is that we have basically no groceries for this week. Thus I ran out of bagels. As I was looking through our nearly depleted food reserves, I saw our bread. This is the wife's supper. Yes I know, don't get me started. I have had many discussions about her lack of food for supper, but that is the way she wants it. But, I digress. Knowing that if I wanted to eat something, anything for breakfast, I'd have to eat some toast, it struck me. I'm not particularly fond of bagels or bread or much of any breakfast food. They are nothing but jam delivery devices for me. So, I ate the jam, which was on the bread  Now, what's the point of all this? Nothing. Just had a realization and thought I'd share  Anyone else out there like me?

How Bellona Got Her Mojo Back
Friday, 17 March 2006 00:05:26

*does return of the mojo dance* i'm back, baby!!! :smokin: i am healed. got outta that funk i was in and now i'm groovin' once more, thanks in no small part to all you shiny people out there who offered up solutions and happy-making comments. oh, and for the record, you guys were right. onion rings, ice cream, hot showers and kaylee in a pretty dress are good cures for the blues. thanks be to you kind folks. and meeting nurse amy on the day surgery ward at victoria hospital cheered me up no end. why? well, not only did she put up with my best friend and safely see her through an operation, but she's a browncoat on a quest to convert all her patients. woot!!! *makes devil horn sign* *is ashamed of her nerdy attempts to be cool* now, i'm off to read more fic and hopefully bother my lazy little bottom to write more of mine (jaine won't save the crew on her own, you know  ah, shameless plugs, how i love thee) b ps. isn't it alan's birthday today (16th march)?

Sorta Like a Confessional....
Friday, 17 March 2006 01:00:37

Okay, so I've never done one of these, but I got a few things to confess, and this seems as good a place as any... 1) I'm ruined. Ever since I've been in to Firefly & Serenity, nothing else seems to compare. I just can't get in to any other shows(except Ghost Hunters, I confess a love for that). The rest of it seems so.... unshiny. 2) I'm addicted.I watch my DVD's whenever I can, I've even been known to fall asleep with them on... I've got this site as my home page, just so I don't feel alone in this obsession. I'm also writing fanfics, which I hope to post soon. 3) I'm in love. With Nathan. At first I thought it was just Mal, but the more I read about our Captain, the more I like him.He seems so sweet and down to earth, and *God* the man is gorgeous... 4)I ain't sorry for any of it!This last one is a sign that my proper English has disappeared due to repetitive viewing of Firefly...

Yay!
Friday, 17 March 2006 01:13:11

Well, I'm well into Scene 2 of Chapter 2. Moving along pretty good now...just clipping right along now, yep. Should be up in a matter of days really. Getting unhealthfully attached to a pre-dead flashbacks only character. Sadly, I think this is his only scene. Need to focous on getting attached to Fred, Marla, and, of course, Jayne's ma. Oh...and hating Torrin. Gotta get started hating Torrin. Anyway...enough on that, I gotta go.

Firefly Dreamin'
Friday, 17 March 2006 03:42:30

Well, here it is, my first Firefly blog; only seems fitting to talk a bit about my obsession. Especially as that obsession has passed the point of no return. I am now dreaming about our Big Damn Heroes (and some of their acquaintances). The earliest one was a couple of weeks ago. It seemed like it was post-BDM except that
Wash was still alive...
but River was sane so it was pretty hard to tell. Anyway, Serenity was visiting my neck of the woods as the crew and I sought to thwart the assassination of some big-shot official or other. So there we were, staking out a likely spot for an attempt, and next thing I knew I was making out with River. This kinda blew my mind - making out with any girl, let alone a cute little psychic, is just not something I ever expect to get a chance to do, but she was just such a sweetie about it...nope, can't say I didn't enjoy the moment. It even inspired a short fanfic that I do not expect to post here for quite some time, if ever. Then there was last week, when I shipped out with Serenity as a passenger. Didn't know where to, didn't know quite when, didn't much care about either as I was playing tonsil hockey with Kaylee.:kiss: There was no sign of continuity between dreams, though, because in spite of my worries River didn't seem jealous. Ah, such fun... ...until last night. Last night was dinner with the Niskas. *shudder* The old buzzard was getting his earful about killing his wife's nephew - and the freakage of it was, his wife looked just like my fourth-grade teacher with a lot more grey hair. Now if you knew my fourth-grade teacher, you wouldn't have to be River to figure out where THAT parallel came from. But still - really - dinner with the Niskas?? I wanna make out with Kaylee instead. I'll be in my bunk.

2 Potential Jobs
Friday, 17 March 2006 05:01:10

Hey all I noticed the ever popular "What do you do in real life" thread, but didn't have the energy to read all 295 posts on it. Also, I didn't think I could qualify for it since I'm a student (ie. unemployed). But there has been some recent development in the "searching for a job" department. I am currently waiting to hear back on whether or not I get one of two jobs that I've been interviewed for. The first job is with the Canadian Pacific Railway. Basically, this is for a seasonal laborer/track personnell position. I would be literally working on the railroad. I'd be working 10 hours a day, so I would actually get Fridays off, which is good because the earliest that I could get my wisdom teeth pulled out is on May 12th, a Friday. (I plan on listening to a bunch of psychidelic music during the operation while I'm tripping on anesthesia. Hey, might as well make the most of my legally sanctioned drug trip). It would be for the full summer, and if I pocket the per diem they give me everyday for food, I could make about 12 thousand in four months. Take away 20% for taxes and another 2000 for living expenses, I'd could be sitting on 8000 dollars by my 21st birthday, which would be more money than I've ever seen so far. I went for the interview where they only asked me three questions (I kept thinking Monty Python when they told me that), and last Monday I took the physical (a first for me). I should know by the 27th whether or not I have this job. (Update: Please refrain from any "I've been working on the railroad" jokes. I'm well aware of that stupid song and I don't need to be reminded of it.) And the other one was for this one I was called in on on Wednesday. I had applied for this "herbicide applicator" position and forgot about it. The guy finally called me and I went over to his house for an interview. With this job, I'd be driving a one ton truck (similar to the grain trucks I drive at the plant) and helping with the spraying or application of herbicides for all these different major companies around the province. I would be working between 65 and 75 hours a week, which would be about maybe ten or twelve hours a day for the full seven days, I'd probably only be in Regina for about four weeks in total at intermitten times, but I'd be done by the second week of August or earlier. And the guy said that I could make between 15 and 17 THOUSAND dollars. Take away the 20% for taxes and living expenses, which shouldn't actually be too much since I'd be away for the majority of the time, throw in maybe helping out at the farm during harvest for a little extra spending money, I could be sitting on ten thousand by the time I turn 21. Ten thousand fucking dollars. I could theoretically take a summer off to do summer school to make up for all those classes I dropped during my semesters and finally get my film degree. And actually pay for it out of my own pocket. I'll find out whether or not I got the job by next week. Hopefully next Wednesday. Oh well, one can dream. But y'all cross your fingers so that I get either one.

It's good to be back if only temporarily, although I never truly left.
Friday, 17 March 2006 09:01:27

Well, I've been away from the Firefly community for a short while. I was just so busy. I've been going out at night dressed as a bat, waging a secret war against the dark underworld of suburban America and it is not pretty. I’ve seen things that would make the Spanish Inquisition look like the happy fun infidel culling hour. Unfortunately, it really was not as fun as I thought it would be. The good people at DC comics deceived me with their flashy artwork and their intricate crossovers. Batman deceived me. Criminals are neither superstitious nor cowardly. They are however very adept at insulting people who are dressed as giant bats. They really hurt my feelings although I suppose my emotional wounds are nothing compared to the physical wounds those dastardly fiends received at the claws of my trusty sidekick the Batcougar. Despite the drawbacks, it was a glorious time, violators of pedestrian traffic regulations and municipal codes cowered in fear for they knew they were under the vigilant gaze of The Splendiferous Magnanimous Bat Protector of Suburbia (I couldn’t use the name Batman because it’s copyrighted). Now my time as the Bat has passed and I shall pass the mantle of Splendiferous Batness down to a worthy successor, one who is even less educated, less able to interpret the law and more prone to bursts of extreme bone shattering violence against children and the elderly. Unfortunately, I’ll still be pretty busy with my new job, as a robot, a robot in disguise.

Ch 6 is up
Friday, 17 March 2006 10:24:31

Over the Hills and Far Away ch 6 is up. yay! This was actually a surprisingly difficult chapter to write. I spent a lot of time avoiding writing and revising my outlines instead. Though I'm writing as I post, I do know almost everything that is going to happen in "Hills". There is a grand plan. As it turns out, Inara's backstory is going to take up a little more space than I had initially planned. I was talking with my friend about this, and she suggested that I could divide my story into two - Over The Hills and Far Away and Inara's Backstory. I'm not overly keen on doing this, but on the other hand it would give Inara's romance far more room to grow. So, if you would be so kind, dear blog reader... do you think this is a good idea, or a bad idea? Also, it is my Spring Break, so don't expect another chapter until at least the 30th (unless my inspiration bunny kicks into overdrive and I get chapter 7 done before wednesday). Hope everyone is doing well. Happy Friday!

2336hrs Happy St Patty Everyone!
Friday, 17 March 2006 13:13:42

Well its been a real slack day today - don't know if that has got anything to do with St Patty or not, but hey I'm not complaining - good to have the day off! Spent a portion of the day going through the vast and 'un-endless' (Yes its my own word & I'm keepin it) archive of stuff of FFF. Watched Serenity again - for the who knows how many times now - and FireFly:Heart of Gold and can't help but laugh at Jayne being poetic about his pecker - lol. Ahhh - slowly sipping more of that mystic elixer Sable, but bottle is empty. "Note to self get fresh supply!" Just now, sipping my Sable and listening to "My Heart Will Go On" by The Screaming Jets. And Before you ask - Yes they did do a version, An Australian Release. Throw in a bit of Pearl Jam & its makin this a cool evening. Ah well time to log off - take it easy all and have fun as "We Aim To Misbehave." PostScript: Thanks to all the crew that welcomed me replying to my last blog.

The Operative in Kinky boots
Friday, 17 March 2006 19:02:43

I just saw the trailer for Kinky boots staring none other than our Chinetel Ejiofor. I have to see this movie it looks just downright hi-larious. Oh you silly Brits how do I love thee let me count the ways.

Gorram primary buffer panal
Friday, 17 March 2006 19:24:20

Okay I gotta share this little tidbit of weirdness. Picture this. I'm just driving down the road fliping radio stations and I come across Steppenwolf's Born to be wild. And I think this is a good omen the greatest driving song ever while I'm driving. Then it happens MY STEARING WHEEL CAME OFF IN MY HANDS. No I'm not kidding! I didn't know what to do so I kept on trying to make my car turn and then I hit the brakes. When I say I was trying to make my car turn I had the stearing wheel in my hands not connected to anything and was trying to turn with the power of my brain. In my mind was did the primary buffer panel just fall off my gorram ship? So I stopped in the turn lane for the opposite direction slaped the stearing wheel back down and whipped back into the correct lane. It was such a bizzare experiance I didn't even panic it was just like huh yeah this is odd. Anyway before I got to tell ya'll this I saw the Operative in kinky boots so yeah that took presedence.

Really funny chat with Kaele and MalNourished last night with the topper being the line that MalNourished interjected: MalNourished: i can get it from netflix and let you borrow it if need be Kaele: check your lifetime listing for saturday night MalNourished: if the tape doesn't work Kaele: was thinking of buying it if i like it that much MalNourished: but i will try to tape it (should work) Kaele: hell, i may just buy it anyway MalNourished: lol FollowMal: it's on my list of stuff I want with Nathan in it. MalNourished: I'M on my list of stuff i want with nathan in it MalNourished: wha? who said???? FollowMal: teehee, teehheeeeehhhe. FollowMal: * still chuckling* that was great Kaele: OMG MalNourished: LOL Kaele: i finally got that... It was too cute! On another note... I'm bummed. Read the interview with Mr. Fillion at darkhorse re: Slither and other stuff and although I'm so happy he's getting work and I know he'll make all this stuff look better than any actor could.... I hated the part where he said he couldn't be greedy and hope for more Firefly/Serenity. Well, that's not it verbatim, but it feels like he's moving on ( which, duh, he should), but I am still here holdin til Mal gets back. So I want Mal to come back!

You can't take the sky from me!
Friday, 17 March 2006 21:12:08

Hi, I have been so desperate to cross paths with other Firefly fans it is not even funny. My brother and I got into the show fairly recently when the Sci-Fi channel did a Firefly marathon to hype up for Serenity the BDM! My brother taped them and let me borrow the tape and I watched five episodes in a row and then watched them over. They showed all the episodes including the ones never aired and they also showed them in a logical order starting with Serenity parts one two. That was that I was hooked. I then went out and got the DVDs of the show and couldn't wait for Serenity. I live in Vermont and so far I haven't found anyone I know outside my family who likes Firefly or calls themseves a Browncoat like me! It is great to be here with all you fellow Browncoats!

Thanks and Fic
Friday, 17 March 2006 23:39:16

Thanks for all the encouragement offered after my last post. I am feeling somewhat better though not totally out of the fog yet. And nuclearday, I know all about Michigan weather. I live there, and that might have something to do with it. I'm not sure. On another note, I'm working on my first ever fanfic. It is, of course, about Firefly. It's frustrating because I can see it in my head like a movie but it's coming very hard onto paper. I'm very visual and tranfering what I see in my head to words is very difficult. It's a good story but I don't know about the writing. It's very slow going. If anyone's willing to beta when I'm done (which might be a while) let me know. I'l try not to take to long if I have someone. Anyway. Bye for now and remember that they can't take the sky from us!

I don't see this working any other way.
Saturday, 18 March 2006 02:01:24

Just read an interesting thread on trust. Was gonna post in there; but its purpose, I think, was really for people to express their experiences with betrayal of trust. So, short of hijacking the thread, and be all contrary, I will say something about it here. I good few years back, a highly gifted math friend of mine once told me of this interesting computer experiment they had running at the university. The idea was to write the best software to detect and anticipate false information and lies. Several brilliant engineers entered the contest (a virtual world of trading); and a great many advanced pieces of software were written. The "easiest" solution, of course, was to tell the computer to trust nobody. But then you cannot win anything, either. So, the contestants had to find some sort of middle ground: trust to a degree, and be careful elsewhere. The field of statistics; probabilities and such; all extremely complex; and all way over my head. And you know which program won? You guessed correctly: a very simply program that... always trusts! :) Which is to say, unlike the other participants, the programmers of this box had specifically taught it NOT to learn from its "mistakes"; should it burn its fingers, so to speak, it would, in a similar situation, take the exact same route, and trust like it had never been betrayed before. In the end, this astoundingly simple premise won out to all math in the 'verse! Like Simon said: "I don't care what you've done. I don't know what you're planning on doing, but I'm trusting you. I think you should do the same, cause I don't see this working any other way." I dunno; I've always felt the story has some cosmic significance. You be the judge.

New Browncoat here who has fallen deeply in love with the 'Verse and its inhabitants. I'm a writer and a dreamer and am desperately praying for another movie or second season. I said I was a dreamer, didn't I?

I need a beta!
Saturday, 18 March 2006 16:47:55

Last night I had a burst of inspiration and I puonded out the first part of my first fanfic. I really want to post it but I need a beta. My typing sucks, and I'm horrible at proofing my own stuff. If you're willing to beta please let me know. Please.

Terribly addictive...
Saturday, 18 March 2006 20:17:24

I posted my first fanfic today and I can see myself getting incredibly hooked on the whole thing...Good thing my job is kinda boring, I can devote more time to thinking of new story ideas...(Nobody tell my boss...)

Hiya Folks. A new member to the Browncoats hailing from the UK. I am currently studying for some exams next week, but with the constant desire to watch firefly/serenity...maybe I should become a waiter instead!

I could see him, hear him.
Sunday, 19 March 2006 00:10:32

I could see him, hear him. The Blind Muse can not see, no eyes to see with, but a finger rolls off a string, the sound rings singing Ones sight. The deff man watching can not hear the sound but in his chest feels the sight of the troubled life of a blind muse. The Deff man hears the story as the Muses fingers dance upon each note. he is crying for he knows the lowly fingers that strike down upon his heart. the Blind muse Pauses tells the man (you were and are my sight)and the Deff man hears Her and the music plays once more.

Yes. FollowMal, MalNourished and I watched Water's Edge while online with each other in a Yahoo messenger conference. Dang, that was fun. Not as fun as doing it in person, but still fun. Must say, his was the best performance in the entire movie. The plot was okay and not TOO predictable, though I have a feeling FollowMal may disagree with that. She kept asking what would happen next. Now, I've never seen the darn movie before, but she assumes that since I'm attempting to write that I can forsee the plot. I'm no River. Be damned if I didn't anyway...LOL Guessed it fairly well close to what actually happened. Now FM thinks I'm some sort of genius. Good god, where'd she get that idea? Maybe it's MalNourished's fault for putting it in her head.

I did it.
Sunday, 19 March 2006 10:17:42

Finally. I have a new chapter of YOU CAN'T GO HOME AGAIN up. I was up till 4 in the morning to get it done, but I finally did it. I feel more exhausted than satisfied. I'm going to bed. I hope I get some good responses.

Welcome to the bandwagon!

Yes, it's official. My first Blue Sun post is up and it's a shining example of the new church sign trend. I can't help it...my sheep like tendancies are well ingrained! :stupid: Who knows... I might even chase down those motivational posters if I can find a decent screenshot!

Bloggety Blog
Sunday, 19 March 2006 17:25:17

Okay, this Flog stuff is getting addicting ;p Is it sick that I check check all these forums something like... 1,000 times a day? When I get up, when I get home from work, before I go to bed... Even the ones I lurk on, I'll head over and see that there hasn't been any activity in the past fives minutes, and still run through all the boards just to make sure I didn't miss anything ;p (Plus I've noticed I still have the very bad habit of taking too many breaks when I'm working on a project. Especially when most of it is done at the computer :) Alright, the lunchbox thingy is actually going to get done. Even I'm getting sick of hearing about it ;p Actually, I'm looking at my first trial of it, and even with the myriad imperfections I think it's rather shiny. (No really shiny. Like when the light catches it and the metal underneath shines through. :) FloralBunny gave me the final idea I needed to bring everything together with having the 'River in a Box' picture inside the box. ;p I can't believe I hadn't thought of that. I was going to put something in there, with Mal's love speech. But I was also trying to put something together for the back outside frame, so now I've killed two birds with one stone. I can put Mal's speech on the back and have River in a Box... in the box! So yeah, I should get back to that, shouldn't I? Too much time "foruming" and gazing longingly at my Kaylee wallpaper. If anyone reads this, and knows of a trustworthy free place to share photos, I'd be quite appreciative, too. ;p I'll put a pic of the finished product up here, but don't want to spam the Blue Sun Room, so I'm looking for places that can host all the views along with source images so any interested parties can make their own once I know it works. :stupid: Alright, stay shiny people ;p

Surprisingly not crap
Sunday, 19 March 2006 17:32:24

The title refers to a movie I saw recently that I didn't ever plan on seeing. Doom. Someone brought it over and put it in and I ended up watching most of it. Don't get me wrong, it's not a great movie but it was a lot better than I expected. See, all I got from the trailers was the Rock, and First Person View. I don't give a crap about the Rock and FPV, while it works in some games, is usually a really bad idea in a movie. Imagine my surprise whe I realized that the Rock wasn't the main character, Karl Urban was. If you don't know, Karl Urban played Eomer in the Lord of the Rings. I didn't even know he was in Doom! Now, while he's not on a level with the Capt for me, I really enjoy watching him. He's atractive and talented and I just love his eyes. The story, while unoriginal, at least worked and they even managed to surprise me a few times. All in all, not the total crap I was expecting. Anyway, I know that had nothing to do with FF but I had to get it out and here seemed as good a place as any. Oh yeah, I'm going to try and post a Zoe wp in the next day or so. Talk to you all later.

Welcome to my BlogLog
Sunday, 19 March 2006 21:24:30

This is my BlogLog, I am Shadowmask, internet blogger geek NOT extrodinairre, although I have been taught well by my nerd brother, aka 'Shadowbro', not actually his nickname, just, if he found out I revealed his name he'd, well, he probably wouldn't care, but, f-it. Many people do not understand the difference between nerds, geeks, dweebs, dorks, etc... Let me clear this up. Nerd= Smart person, usually adepty at computers, physics, and math. Geek= Science Fiction freak, someone who enjoys having an argument with another geek over who would win a fight, Yoda or Spock, I'm speaking out of personal experiance here, people. Dweeb= Relativle smart, someone with annoying habits, traditional root of the word 'four eyes', like Urkel. Dork= Idiot, moron, dumbass, fatass, blockhead, jackass, stupid fat jerkoff! As you can see my intelligence is far beyond yours, now I will take over the Alliance with nothing more than this crazy purple ass rock I found in my back yard. Shadowmask

Newly Recruited Browncoat

My younger brother recently got me HOOKED on Firefly... I gotta say, this show is a work of pure genius... I only wish they hadn't
killed Shepherd Book in Serenity
, because that storyline would have been great to continue.

Why I like Firefly
Monday, 20 March 2006 03:02:20

Here is why I like firefly so friggen much Well I guess I will say that alot of stuff on TV sucks. Alot of things do nat grab my attention very much. Becasue I have really a brain that only likes certain certain things. So like Firefly you know, one day I was really boerd and had no money I think it was like X-mas. I got some money from my grandma and I went to walmart. Anyway I was looking around at the movies and then I saw Firefly and I was like well allright this looks allright I guess and then I thought about it and I went back and said. "I guess I will get this." So then I went home and I was like okay I guess I will put this in here and watch it. So I did and then I watched it for like a whole month. ANyway Why I like Fireflly so much is because it gives me hope. See I have made up stuff my whole life and I had this crazy idea that I was suppossed to make a tv show and everyone I know thought I was crazy. I mean I really really belive it. Anyway I watched firfly and thought Well If he did this, well then I bet I can do it too. Well anyway I know this sounds cornball but whenever I figure out how to get the ball roolling Mabye this will help Firefly come back. And mabye some other people will say the same thing I said, and then TV will become alot better

BSR flooded
Monday, 20 March 2006 03:07:14

If you've been to the Blue Sun Room lately you have seen the church signs that have flooded it lately. I'm going to rant about them. I'm a bit upset about unrelated things right now and logging into the BSR and seeing it filled with these was the straw that broke the camel's back. It may get a little bitchy so if you absolutely love them then don't read the rest of this. I admit that I was amused by the first couple but enough is enough. At least the motivational posters have some variation in appearance. These are all the same. Well close enough to. We're even repeating themes and/or quotes at this point. They don't require any imagination or skill and it irritates me. Isn't that what the BSR is for? If you absolutely must post some of them then please, one per person, per day. At most two. Please! I go to the BSR to look at new and interesting pictures and today I finds it more then half filled with posts that look nearly identical. And it seems that everyone has decided to do a half a dozen at a time and post them all at once. Why? Are they really that interesting? Please make it stop! Ok. I'm done now. Sorry if I upset anyone but you were warned. Everyone needs to vent now and then and this church sign thing is unacountably irritating to me.

Commentaries and stuff.
Monday, 20 March 2006 07:26:43

I'm not much for blogging, or recording any information at all (I just like to do art and make up stories.) However, this isn't made up. LadyKnight and I are very good friends, and being such, we have decided to make some commentaries on Firefly Episodes! (And I might eventually suggest that we do the movie too.) Thus far, the only one I'm (personally) satisfied with is Safe. What I'm planning to do in the near future is combine our commentaries with the shows themselves and make them publically available online - where is undecided as of yet. Also, as some might have caught on to, I'm planning on making the music videos that LadyKnight has been posting pictures for, once my computer is capable of running the programs I'm going to need to do so. (It took 12 hours for Premiere 7.0 to start up, and it lagged and gave me the Blue Screen of Death. v2.0 won't even install.) That being said, I shall bid you adieu for tonight.

Doing work for Moonlight Rising
Monday, 20 March 2006 07:34:20

Over at the AN thread, we're finally getting this card for Nathan done. I got around to writing the letter that'll go with it to inform all the gals what they need to do. Sent off a massive spam to a bunch of different sci-fi and fantasy clubs about MR. Seems that Aria is all sorts of pleased with what I'm doing. So much so that she's giving me some hints as to possible surprises for the upcoming con. I just hope this woman doesn't think I'm some sort of stalker. I'm not crazy, I swear. I fully appreciate the position that these fans and guests are in. I'm a cool, rational person usually. I'm reasonably intelligent. I think... She's asked if it was okay for her to come to our Shindig, so I must be coming across as fairly sane. I HAD planned on writing the article I'd like to submit to newspapers and radio stations (possibly even TV) but got distracted. In a very bad, bad nasty way. Tomorrow should be nicer. I HAVE to get that article written.

The Name Game
Monday, 20 March 2006 12:29:26

Whatever possessed Joss when he dubbed our mercenary "Jayne"? I've broached this subject before on several occasions, and I've come to a few realizations. If you notice, the name Jayne is actually an amalgam of J(OHN) (W)AYNE, and if you take into account that John Wayne himself was originally given a girl's name (Marion Morrison), I'm of the belief that it's a tribute to the Duke. There's also a supreme irony in the fact that the meaning of the name "Jane" (feminine version) is "gracious" or "merciful". I may be over-thinking the whole thing, but it's interesting all the same, no?

Feeling guilty
Monday, 20 March 2006 13:41:42

Hello fellow browncoats... I would like to issue a formal apology for posting a church sign.:crap: I will never do it again. ever. If i'd known how many were going to be posted over the rest of the weekend (and this morning) I wouldn't have done it. It's just not funny when a trend like this pushes mphillips work out of the recent items. So again... I'm sorry:crap:

Comics and a Man called Jayne
Monday, 20 March 2006 17:13:45

First I would like to thank (in no particular order) mal4prez, bookaddict, Lvs2read, and 2x2 for encouraging me to put pen to paper and get started on some fic. Now I know who to blame when I am up late trying to finish dialog. :banghead: But this weekend I finally got the comic series. So, what gives? Is it just me or does it seem too often writers go back to the old "enemy that we thought was dead but isn't" plot line? Not that it is a bad thing and it made it easy to prevent too much exposition, but it would be nice to have something different than standard revenge fare. Maybe I have just gotten tired of comics in general. NAAAWWWWW!!! I hope not. Although I must say my interest has gone down the last few years. Or maybe it is because my money flow has decreased. Who knows? I need to find me a sugar daddy to buy my shiny Firefly inspired goodies. I don't want to admit to it, as much as I hates it, but I have to fully admit I am a Jayne-addict. What is it about that man? Maybe it is because he is so atypical male that there is absolutely no way I could ever feel anything but feminine. AH, that would be the day. I guess once guys find out what I do for a living they kind of get scared. Or maybe it is because my friend and I like to brag that we know how to castrate things. I am thinking it is the latter. It's all good though. I still have my Captain and my merc. Rae

Serene, Now...
Monday, 20 March 2006 17:43:30

I'm glad to be here among others who LOVE the show Firefly and the movie SERENITY. I feel like it's Loved by so many that it will come back someday, in some form or another. I saw that Amazon.com has a novel by Keith R. A. de Candido listed to be coming out in 2009, so at least that's something! hehe Well, I don't have a lot to say other than, it's shiny to be here! Keep flyin'!

Megacon - Saturday Wrap Up (Suit Up And Ride Out)
Monday, 20 March 2006 23:58:10

So I woke up around 12 and got dressed as Zoë, an activity I always enjoy doing. Sure it's fun to dress up. But I even have fun in the actual dressing part. Wondering if the actors felt the same way. Or I just imagine I'm suiting up for a heist. Have I mentioned TV Zoë cannot possibly dress herself? Wash must help her with that buckle under the arm because that thing is hell to buckle by yourself. I leave my vest buckled and shimmy into it. Anyways.... When parking I spot my fellow Harry Potter fan friend 4 cars away, this wouldn't be that funny except that the same thing happened at FX a month ago. Finally arrived at the con and in the hallway to the con I see a Jayne in a very cunning hat. He looked good too, had the right build and all. We shouted compliments to each other across the way.... So I get in an greet my friend Chris, who is dressed as a Space Marine from ALIENS and his friend says to me "I think I love you." Awww icon_razz.gif We both agreed it was probably the costume. A few pictures later I meet up with my new friend Dash who is dressed as Mal. Then I see a girl I know dressed as Medical River and her guy is dressed as Simon. We pal around the con for an hour together when we decide to do a little photoshoot. We had: * Mal and Zoë face off * Simon comforts River * River defends Simon * River kicks Simon in the throat * Zoë comforts River * BDH poses * Uncomfortable Kiss with Mal and Zoë About 20 minutes of this and a guy dressed in a vest wanders by.... Mal says, "Is that Simon?" I look and say, "It could be. I have heard of accidental Simons before." Mal walks up to him and says "Simon?" Simon then says,"Yes..Mal?" I LOVE BROWNCOATS! So he joins us and we all take more pictures....and then another Mal comes along.... He raises his eyebrows and whips out his cell phone. Turns out he is the Mal that came with the Simon we found, Jayne, Kaylee, River, and Wash. He called them over. While we waited for them to find us I went to check on my guy running the Buffy game show. Mal came in 5 minutes later and told me they arrived. I walked out and then got the best compliment of the day... As I rounded the pillar Kaylee let out a gasp. That's when you know you did good job. So we stood around and having such a large group people finally came out in force and were like "It's THE FRICKIN FIREFLY CREW" and came over to talk and take pics. We talked to each other while not posing and Wash did the cutest thing.... He pulled out a protein bar and asked if anyone wanted any before he ate it. They were a seriously cool group of people. After about an hour we dispersed after trading emails.

We have done the impossible and that makes us mighty!
Tuesday, 21 March 2006 01:08:00

Thanks all for the warm welcome! It is fantastic to be here and talk with other Browncoats. I have been working on a fanfic on my own time tenativly title "Into the Black" I am debating whether to wait till its finished or post it in pieces like by chapter. Although if I wait who knows how long it will be before it is done. If I do it little by little I can keep motivated by the thoughts and comments I get back. Hmmmm. I posted a kind of summary of what I have done under "Have to get this off my chest" in the Community space.

I'm done! Huzzah!
Tuesday, 21 March 2006 03:02:44

Well amigos y amigas, my grand experiment is over. For those of you who've been keeping up with my BSR postings, I've been working on The Tales Series, a group of short character vignettes seperating the BDHs from each other so that I can focus on each of them seperately. They jump from before the show to after the BDM, and, if ya'll comments are to be trusted, they seem to have gone over pretty well. However, in a shamless piece of self-promotion, as well as a chance to make sure everyone who wants to read the whole thing can find all of the stories, here are links to all nine Tales.

I've screwed it up.
Tuesday, 21 March 2006 13:31:36

Ok... so I'm in the UK and at Uni. In the first year pretty much everyone lives on campus but then in the second year you move into houses with friends. My uni doesn't publish the housing list until really late (24th May). When we came back after christmas loads of people started stressing out and going off and getting accommodation sorted. Some people's parents are even buying them houses which I could never afford. A few of my friends started grouping up and that was fine. The thing is I do a dual honours course. For one subject I'm the only girl and although I get on fine with the guys they've been grouping up with people they currently live with in halls. So I was stressing a bit and starting to get very nervous when some friends on the other course said I could move in with them (about a month ago). They were waiting for the list and they were really nice people so I was happy. The deadline for applying for on-campus accommodation has passed and it was mentioned by a couple of people I knew that they might be able to find a spare room but since I didn't know them that well I figured I didn't need to worry about it. So about an hour ago I found out that the people I was supposed to move in with have found a four bedroom house...one room short. Apparently it's perfect (except for not having five bedrooms) and since I was last in i'm first out. So now it's three days before the housing list comes out. Everyone I know (seriously...everyone) has sorted accommodation for next year. I'm on my own. It's too late to apply on-campus. So I've pretty much managed to screw it all up. The best bit is I now get to phone my Dad and explain that I'm too much of a loser to actually find any friends to live with. At Christmas I went home and my family was just joking around and my Dad commented that there's always one misfit in every group and he pointed at me. I know he was only joking but he was right. I just don't fit. He had a mini-stoke last week and everyone's really worried about him. He's expecting me to call to tell him about the house and I don't know what to say. All I really want to do is not be here. I just want to get on a train and go home but that'll just stress out everyone at home. I don't understand how my brother and sister managed to find houses just find but I'm stuck here totally screwed and I just feel like a failure. Someone knocked on my door about five minutes ago but I don't want it to be any of the people I was supposed to move in with because they're all apologetic and I don't want them to see me cry. I ignored it. They can probably hear me in here so now I'm a failure and a coward. This morning I felt pretty good. Now I just want to curl up and die.

Jayne is still alive
Tuesday, 21 March 2006 16:06:47

My new fish Jayne is still alive. I thought he would die during the night but no he's still alive! This is not important to anyone else but if you were me you would understand. So happy dance around the room my fish lives!

The funny thing he says
Tuesday, 21 March 2006 20:35:56

"She is seriously damaging my calm" "It would be nice if we had some gernads right about now" "I have an ideal, what if we stop playing art crittic and move away from this erie ass piece of work and go on with our gorram erie ass day" "You got a wife? All I got was that stupid ass stick that sounds like it's raining" "My masculine butt it's 40%" These are just some of the phrases that make Jayne the man. I truely laugh so hard that the next morning I wake up and I am really sore. I love the show, and my favorite episode is Jaynestown. -Chiefy

Serenity
Wednesday, 22 March 2006 03:36:24

Well, I finally saw the movie today (I felt like I had to wait forever for the person who had it before me to return it to the library so I could have it, although in reality it was only about a week). I loved it, although I thought the music was better in the show. It's a rather insignificant thing, I know, but insignificant things can have significant affect on significant things... I felt that the music from Firefly was a big part of what gave the show its personality, and it was somewhat disappointing to see that missing from Serenity.

My little Browncoat, aka Cult-like Recruiting
Wednesday, 22 March 2006 05:58:10

My five year old was up way too late tonight and was begging for a story. I told him that it simply was too late at night to spend another 20 minutes reading him a story. Instead I offered to sing him a song. He procedes to crawl up into my lap. "Sing Firefly for me, mommy..." Granted, it's not bedtime song material, but simply the fact that he WANTED it made mommy's day.

Holy Crap, I'm Employed!!!
Wednesday, 22 March 2006 06:53:52

Not sure how it happened, but I now have a job! Actually, that isn't quite true. I do know how it happened  Going out to have coffee/meals/desert/etc with a buddy that is a techie resulted in lots of techie talk. This of course over time ended up covering a wide array of topics from licenses to specific developement problems/solutions. Because he owns his own business, after a time we ran into a problem that he was looking for a solution, which I knew of some (solutions that is ). Thus I get a contract to setup a solution. This turns into a job offer pending I complete a "proof that I know how to do web programming site." Which I finished and he and his lead programmer were satisfied with  And yesterday I get a job offer which I accepted today  Just gonna have to be careful not to overstep my bounds... At any rate, yay! I've again joined the ranks of the getting paid

model of Serenity on www.poplollies.com
Wednesday, 22 March 2006 08:10:52

Was perusing JetFlair's www.serenityverse.com site -- mondo shiny BTW -- and found a link to a site with nice FF stuff -- including what I've been looking for for awhile: an actual model of Serenity. I wish the picture was bigger tho. Can't make out how detailed it is. But check out both sites if you haven't already.

A new day
Wednesday, 22 March 2006 10:56:18

:smile:Thank-you everyone who read or commented on my blog yesterday. I was feeling very upset and I think it all just got a bit much. All your *hugs* and advice really helped to calm me down and this morning I'm much happier. I went to visit the accommmodation people first thing this morning and explained what was going on. They were very sympathetic and apparently my name flagged on their system because I have a circulatory disorder and it would seem that puts me fairly high up on their list of concerns. I've filled in a late application form and although I'm not guaranteed anything I should be able to find a room on campus. I'll also keep an eye out for 'house mate wanted' signs. I also spoke to my Dad... without bursting into tears:smile: and he's going to ask around and see if he can find a car suitable for me to buy (I have some savings from working last summer) then I won't be stuck on campus (-basically the middle of No and Where). So yeah... Thanks again! A little shaky maybe, but I'm still flyin'

2X2
All Day Meeting = Tetchy 2x2
Wednesday, 22 March 2006 21:38:09

I just spent the entire day at work today, sitting at a table, subjected to hours and hours of mindless droning. Annual General Meeting from 9am to 3pm SUCKED the life right out of me... I could have spent that time doing ANYTHING else and it would've been time better spent... I could have been WRITING. I ended up making paper cranes, ninja stars and those square-thingys with the colour on the outside, a number on the inside, and then some message underneath the inner flap - my four messages were: Drawn and Quartered; Branded by Irons; A Hobbling; and Escape... all of which were better alternatives to sitting there at that meeting... To top it off, the lunch has made my tummy upset. Not a happy 2x2 Thank the gods for this place!

The funny things he says
Wednesday, 22 March 2006 22:19:16

"She is seriously damaging my calm." "I have an ideal, let's stop playing art crittic and move away from this erie ass piece of work and move on with our gorram erie ass day." "Boy, it'd be nice if we had some gernads right now." "You have a wife? Why do you have a wife? All I got was that stupid ass stick that sounds like it's raining." "Heeere crazy person. We'er going on a nice boat ride." "My masculine butt it's 40%." "You shoot me if they take me! Well don't shoot me first!" "You know what the chain of command is? It's the chain get to beat you with until you know who's in command. So don't get all....Bendy... the lights that keep you company, their like little angels." Zoe:"How much ammo do we have left?" Jayne:"Two full clips and my swinging cod." These are just some of the things that Jayne says that make the show funnier. Mal and Wash have thiers too, but I love the things Jayne says because he seems so serious when he says them. -Chiefy

Best/worst dream ever
Thursday, 23 March 2006 02:26:45

Ok. So last night I had this amazing/really uncool dream: First I found a puppy and got to keep it (I've wanted a dog for a really long time and my dad won't let me have one unless I can find one that doesn't poop). And this puppy miraculously didn't poop at all. Then, the next day of "dream school" some guy ran down the halls screaming "FIREFLY IS BACK! FIREFLY IS BACK!" so I was like "YAY!!!!" and was so incredible happy that nothing bothered me anymore, not even when my band teacher yelled at me! Amazing. Then, my dad woke me up !!! I got up and was like "Oh my god. Firefly is really back." Then a few seconds later I realized, crap that was just a dream. So this was a good/bad dream. The good thing was that I had a puppy and Firefly came back. But, I woke up and thought it was real and had to go through the disappointment of realizing it wasn't. I was very depressed today because of that dream. But then, I realized that this dream could be a sign for the future!!!

wed hump day 3-22-06
Thursday, 23 March 2006 04:03:44

My provider is running new lines to my bldg...that meant no internet for a few days :( I am currently working on some pieces that will be a little different then the usual stuff.. including a firefly short story done comic style but in my sepia technique. Hope it works out ok. I'll still do the sepia drawings mainly because they're fun to do and you guys seem to favor them the best.. I think if I have a beginning, middle and end it'll work out better the a continuing strip..We'll see how it goes.. I'm also still working on a full on oil painting..I'd forgoton how long it takes oil to dry..Two days and the thing is still workable.. Well X-play is about to start...What can I say..I think Morgan's a hottie..anywho till next time....

Wisdom Teeth Pulled Today...discuss
Thursday, 23 March 2006 04:54:57

Hey all In January, I went to this oral surgeon place to get an estimate on getting my wisdom teeth pulled. I had gone for a check-up a few months back, and along with a filling, I found out that one of my wisdom teeth had a cavity. They said it would be easier just to pull it instead of drilling it and putting in a filling. So I go to this oral surgeon and he tells me that it would cost about a thousand bucks (the health care plan I'm on at the university should cover about half that) and that the earliest I could get in was May 12th. It was this date that bummed me out because it would mean I'd have to take a day off of work from whatever summer job I got. And we all know that if you're gonna take a day off, it should be near the end of your time, not your beginning. Anyhow, the place called on either Monday or Tuesday to say that they had a cancellation and that I'd could get in today. I had a lab today around the time they could get me in, but I decided "better now than later" and went for it. So this morning, dragging my brother along with me (you can't drive yourself after the operation. You need someone to drive you since you'd be pretty out of it), I got all four of my wisdom teeth pulled. When I got out, the bottom half of my face was completely numb, I had gauze shoved in my mouth to bite down on and a bunch of pills to take. As of right now when I type this, I feel pretty good. The numbness and swelling is completely gone, the bleeding's stopped, I can move my jaw around a bit, not sure about the talking, but I can move my jaw around pretty well and was able to talk on the phone. I just have to lay off the solids for a few days and try not to tounge the stitches too much (the stitches themselves are degradable). But this is the thing I'm most miffed about. At the estimate, the doc told me that I could listen to music and that I'd be under anesthesia. He said that I wouldn't actually be asleep. I got excited, since I figured that this would be probably the only legally sanctioned drug trip I'll ever be on. So today, I came prepared. I had a "psychidelia" playlist on my iPod with The Beatles, Pink Floyd and a bunch of other stuff on there to mix it up. I start the playlist when he administered the anesthesia. I wasn't even done with the Beatles song when I was out like a light. Or maybe I wasn't. I don't remember a single thing. I remember him taking my glasses off and putting on some bigger ones, looking into the overhead light as I was listening to "Within You Without You", I blank for like a second, I'm on Stevie Wonder's "Superstition", the guy is taking those glasses off and putting my actual glasses back on, there are two things of gauze shoved into my mouth and that's it. The nurse got me up and walked me to a room where I slept off the anesthesia. I don't think I was there for too long, and then they gave me a prescription and I waited in the car while Matt got it from Shopper's Drug Mart. I felt more out of it and trippy on the car ride home than the operation. I know he said that I probably won't remember a thing, but I was determined to remember and to make the most of it. And that I don't even have a trace of a memory of it is what ticked me off. That I slept through a whole Pink Floyd album while on drugs. So how about you guys. Any horror stories (or stories in general) on getting your wisdom teeth pulled.

Virtual Firefly Season 2: www.stillflying.net returns in April! On April 11, 2006, the crew at www.stillflying.net will be back with the beginning of our second season of Virtual Firefly. Not only will we be back, but we’re returning with a “2 hour event”, featuring two back-to-back episodes. Meantime, this is an excellent time to head on over to our site and catch up on any season one episodes you might have missed. Keep flying! That's a message from Gwek. I'm writing a new story right now. I RULE! Or at least, I'm happier than ever...

Kaylee-esque
Thursday, 23 March 2006 15:34:50

So, I am pissed at my father. He has completely taken away my ability to be a damsel in distress when it comes to vehicles. I realized this earlier today as I was changing my brake pads. Yep, I change my own brake pads, can change my own oil, have pulled alternators, put in a fly wheel, water pump, radiator, and let's not go on about what else I can do under a hood. Yes it is good and all. I am proud of the fact that no auto meachanic can fool me (and some have tried and gotten chewed out). But sometimes, like Kaylee in Shindig, I just want to be feminine, yet nothing I do seems to be feminine. Unless I quit working at the slaughterhouse, stop working stock at rodeos, and give up swordfighting, I don't forsee any of that happening. :banghead: Maybe that is why I started taking ballet. Need to do further analysis. But I won't. I am who I am and that is all I am. And Don't Forget to vote for Firefly @

The gorram idiot
Thursday, 23 March 2006 18:52:52

Early this morning around 0500. Some idiot decided to come in my house through the garage door. I was a sleep on the couch when I heard the door being kicked in. So I got up and was going to opened the door that leads to the garage from the house when I heard somone tossing my stuff around on the other side of the door. Well I went to the bedroom and grabed my .45 from under my bed. When I swung open the door I found the idiot, he was a boy. Looked to be around 16 or 17. I couldn't shot him, so I just pistol whipped him. I only did it once... well twice. But he got the point. after I said a few choice words to him, he ended up saying sorry. So I called the reavers (cops) and told the boy that I would see him at work. I work with kids ages 5 to 18. They need help seeing the light. Their parents lost control and they sent them to me and the other employees at the lock down hospital I work at. And after the cops took him away all I could think of was "Gorram idiot came in my house." What a jackass. Shiny... Let's be bad guys. -Chiefy

Firefly Return?
Thursday, 23 March 2006 21:06:46

I have a friend in the Independent Film Industry who was negotiating with Jewel Staite (Kaylee) for his next project. She wound up having to turn it down because of a new contract she signed for at least 2 more movies. Not sure if they are TV or Theatre release, though.

Misinterpretations...
Friday, 24 March 2006 00:57:09

So, the first time I watched Serenity (the pilot), I misheard the conversation at the dinner table between Simon, Jayne, and Kaylee. Here's how I thought it went... Jayne: Kaylee just wishes she was a gynecologist. ... Jayne: It's not my fault she gets all lubed up about some big city dame... The first time I saw Inara, I thought "Oh! This must be the big city dame!" When it became obvious (some time later- Mal's comment about servicing crew in the Train Job didn't help any) that their relationship was nothing more than a friendship, I just chalked the comment up to Jayne's social inabilities. I saw the pilot episode many more times, and each time I heard the same thing. It wasn't until recently, when I was watching the commentary with the English subtitles (the best way to watch commentary to episodes you haven't seen recently), that I realized that the social inabilities lay with me and not Jayne. Yeah, I felt dumb. Has anyone else similarly misinterpreted something on the show?

Browncoats Unite!
Friday, 24 March 2006 01:45:17

We may have another Browncoat in the making! One of my close friends came up during her vacation and is staying with me. She is sixteen and from PA so it is nice when I get to see her, me being up in VT. Anyway I have shared with her my love of Firefly for months now and finally she gets to see what I have been going on about. We started the DVDs earlier in the week and now we are up to Heart of Gold. When we finish the series I am putting in Serenity. Introducing the BD heroes to someone else is an honor and a priviledge and its fun too. Her fav characters are Kaylee, Simon and Wash. I can't wait to see her reaction to the movie (not to mention the sadness when Wash meets his untimely demise) I was hoping she would see what I saw when I first met Serenity and her crew. There is a deep bond, a fight for freedom, family and survival and love that speaks through a battered Firefly class ship to the rest of us. Those that feel it, embrace it whole hearted are proud to wear that dusty brown coat.

Wash Must Live
Friday, 24 March 2006 03:53:15

I can not let it be that Wash is dead and gone from the show or any futur shows, I won't let it be true. Like I understand why Joss killed him off in the movie I do but can he not come back? its to lonely out there in the black with out him, who will make the witty remarks? who will take care of the plastic dinosaurs? and who will make love to Zoe? I would if she couldent kill me with he pinky. But i can not see any on else sitting in that chair beides Wash and if there was futur shows i would watch all of them because i will always love the show but if Wash is gone i think you are taking a huge chunk of the show with him WASH MUST LIVE!!

Re-light that FireFly
Friday, 24 March 2006 04:04:26

One thing I would love to see is more episodes of FireFly I am sure every one on this site would want that but I am in constant fear it will not happen. I keep thinking that the characters would not have the time or heaven forbid even want to do more shows of Firefly mostly because since the release of the movie I have seen alot of interesrt in them from other movies and shows I keep thinking that the movie may have been the end and I hate to think that beacuse a world without Firefly is to sad. I just cant stand to think that the story is over because there is to much to tell still so someone tell the networks to get off their ass get the lighter fluied out and lets relight this thing!

Viva Italia!
Friday, 24 March 2006 06:11:13

I'm going on spring break, to Italy, for a week. YAY! I leave in like 6 hours, but I couldn't go without leaving a goodbye blog to all my fellow browncoats. I will miss you guys, and I will definatly miss this site. I probably won't have access to a computer while I'm there, so I'll have to suffer through fanfic and message board withdrawls. But it's Italy, so I think I can survive. I hope everyone has a great week, cuz I know I'm going to  . Ciao, Mandy AKA ShinyGeeket

Friday, 24 March 2006 17:15:03

I know I said I wouldn't be posting anything, and I'm not really, but I need your help. I just started a web business,I'm NOT asking you to buy,and I need some traffic. All of my family and friends checked it out before I added a counter- so I have a showing of 1(me). I'm not on any of the big search engines yet,so anyone even looking sends me a thrill. I named my alias partly after the website. Sweet serendipity ( serendipity-finding something great by accident) is how I feel about finding the Verse. The website is serendipityagain.com. Itsawash has already seen it and critiqued it. I would welcome any comments you'd like to share. Make sure to see the bottom question on the FAQS page for a Firefly mention. Once again, I'm NOT asking anyone to buy anything!!! I just need to have some traffic and some comments. Please!!!

Electric shredders! Whoot!
Friday, 24 March 2006 20:39:51

We just got a brand new shredder for the house. Whoopeee! Never has recieving junk mail been so exciting, It makes this fabulous obnoxious whirring grinding noise as you feed all of those capitalone invites into it, I want more! MORE! ahem... *cough* But it got me thinkin' Instead of just a boring little trash cans or junk-email folders, we need a virtual shredder for all our internet crapola. Just think of the pleasure derived from watchin that! I'm thinkin maybe something Python-esque, a Gilliamish spam nightmare of all those old essays forced by a giant foot into a sausage grinder, the remnants made into neat little sausages and consumed by a bunch of nuns who eventually flip over on their little branch and reveal their peachy little buttocks to the world. The millitant anti-Bush league could have their own, I won't elaborate on what that would be like. But how great would it be if it had a 'mean-ness' sliding scale, depending on how evil you were feeling that day it could go from 'hey, funny...funky..' to 'whoa, thats just wrong...' And Judging by the popularity of the ranting thread over on talk (next bad day, just go hang out, It's kinda ...cathartic) Some of those setting would be permenantly whacked right up there in Maximum Wrongness. (I know mine would) I suppose there could be the literal version as well, feeding all those phishing letters and Free! Years Supply of Viagra! junk notes into your virtual shredder and watching all those streams of letters and pixels flood forth. Come on, who wouldn't find that satisfying?

BDH voice acting
Saturday, 25 March 2006 02:44:07

Ok. I was fiddling around on imdb and at one point I descided to check out our BDHs. Guess what I found out. Four, you heard me, four of our BDHs hve done voice work on the Justice League cartoon. I'm not really into that kind of show but I might try to catch those episodes to see if I can identify the voices. Nathan vioced a dude in two eps. Morena and Gina seemed to have recuring characters in three and four eps respectivly. Adam has voiced three seperate characters. Who knew? Life after FF appaers to be JL. Kudos to them for giving our BDHs work at least.

I have cut my gorram gums on a chicken wing!
Saturday, 25 March 2006 03:13:05

How stupid is that??! My Spousal Unit cut up all the wings with his shiny butcher's knife, and apparently, left a sharp, poiny edged bone piece that decided it would slice open my gums when I tried to eat it. Can you say pain boys and girls? Stings like all get out too... Really. There was blood, and maybe tears too... I feel like such a boob!

Bands that Rock And People That Care.
Saturday, 25 March 2006 05:14:07

Actually it's country rock, but whatever. What I want to know is have any of y'all ever heard of a band named Kane? The lead singer and co-founder of the band played Lindsey(another guy with a girl's name, but a lot prettier than Jayne) on Angel. Well, he was telling the story behind this song he wrote and one line just made me want to stand up and clap. He lived next door to this couple who fought a lot and it seemed like the woman was always crying. One day he heard the guy throwing her around, so he, and this parts a quote, "So I went over and politely knocked on the door and then politely beat the shit out of him." It's not a funny subject, but the way he delivered made the audience and me laugh. It also got a lot of cheers. The girl never talked to him again, but apparently she did break up with the guy. I can only hope she got the help she needed. Anyway I know what he said wasn't very politically correct, and technically it was assualt, and he might have just made things worse for the woman, but I hope it is a true story because it's nice to know there are people who still care about their neighboors. A lot of others might have just turned up their stereo and ignored it. Also, the bands music is good, a little unpolished, but good and if anybody wants a listen let me know.

Japanese food...with Chinese Overtones
Sunday, 26 March 2006 03:07:41

Firefly has taken over my life. And I am loving every moment. I tell you, my fellow moonbrains, because you will understand. Firefly, Serenity, it's everywhere. Monday I went out with my husband for an evening. We had not had a night out alone since November. We went to one of those Japanese hibachi resterants. It's one of those places where they sit you with random people to fill a table. And there was a younger girl, she was 11, and damned if she didn't look like young River from the BDM. To the point of distraction. She had less freckles, but other then that doppleganger. Her father looked kind of like Badger, but I think the accent helped that and I might be stretching, but still I was reminded. I was glad to eat with chopsticks and have decided I needed a pair of my own for home. When I ordered tea with dinner I got my own little pot like Inara's and I took great care to pour with grace. It was fun. I am totally off my nut, I know. My husband, a fan himself, but not as rabid, thought I went off the deep end when I bought my blonde haired, blue eyed son a hawiian shirt. This will be cute.

That Mysterious Maginificent Elixer Known As 'SABLE'
Sunday, 26 March 2006 04:16:45

1417 Hrs, 03/26/2006 - Supplemental to last blog entry [Discovered A New & An Old Verse] "What is Sable?, if you don't mind me asking?" - FollowMal "By the way, I second FollowMal's question. What is Sable?" - BSCPanthersfan Ah, Sable - what is it? It is an elixer that marvels and tantalises the senses letting you know there are some real joys life. Mystical - why is it mystical you may ask? Well, simply put, Sable does more than just tantalise the taste buds. Its aroma and taste uplifts you and takes you to a place where you will experience unparalled joyful bliss that borders on spiritual. I'm only surprised that it wasn't invented by some monks hidden away in a monastry somewhere and.......Well I suppose that is enough of drivelling bable. Now I better get to and answer the question. What is Sable? Sable is a liquer made and sold (cellar door sales only) by a local winnery we have here. They take aged Ruby Port blend it with Brandy, Spices and then add Swiss and German chocolate. It is absolutely Manificent? Another elixer that has mystical and magical properties, which comes a close second to sable, is 'Amarula' produced only in South Africa. What is Amarula? Ah, well that explaination will have to wait for another entry. Can't go revealing all our secret elixers at once - lol. Oh... and FollowMal, thanks for the encouragement in regards to quitting smoking. I'am feeling the pinch and would really like to have one - although I think my craving may be more psychological rather than physical. Such is life.

Test Your Obsession
Sunday, 26 March 2006 08:32:25

This is a test of your Firefly obsession. This is only a test. *beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep* Sooooo...a post on LiveJournal has it that the Hugo Awards are coming up, and 'Serenity' and 'Wallace & Grommit' are in the running. If you have just read that as 'Wallace & Gorrammit,' you may rest well with the assurance that your Firefly obsession has reached suitably unsafe levels. This concludes this test of your Firefly obsession.

A Hearty Thanks
Sunday, 26 March 2006 12:39:22

Well, like the title, just a big thanks to all the 'coats who had some really great ideas for my last Blue Sun image (the back of my lunchbox I'm working on. Started out as an idle thought, then grew into something of an obsession :) Figure it's been bumped down the list a bit by now, so not much point in posting a response there, but still wanted a way to show my appreciation, so... yeah, here's this blog :) Fan sites aren't really the proper forum to be seeking good criticism, and I promise that was the last time I put up something I don't feel is "finished." (Or, well, as finished as I'm ever going to feel about anything I do, of course.) Anyways, I've never ceased to be amazed at what a lovely bunch of 'coats hang out around here. Alot of the suggestions I got are in the process of being implemented. I was sort of in a bind with that one, and was most suprised at the good ideas you all came up with. For those who asked: Once I know for sure that I have a surefire way of getting this to work, I'll post some directions in the Blue Sun section of the forums. I'll also be posting links to the files I made for the decals. So on the odd chance of anyone wanting to make one themselves, they should have as easy a time doing so as I can make it. Not necessarily the cheapest arts and craft project, but not terribly expensive, either. Blank lunchboxes can be found for as cheap as $5.00 or so, and the paper I think cost me $10 - $15.00 with the shipping/handling. Can't put any up for sale, ATM, though. I'm sort of lacking in the capital and organization to do that anyways, plus I don't know enough of copyright laws to even know if I could do it without getting sued :) Anyways, much thanks to everyone who's responded to my silly fantasy, thanks to all the 'coats in general. And an especially shiny thanks to all the wonderfully talented artists out here, who continue to serve as an inspiration for me to try just that much harder. (You all know who are, and if you don't: well, then yes, I'm talking about you too :)

prime conversion opportunity
Monday, 27 March 2006 02:36:43

I'm giddy! I bought the BDM and the BDS for my brother (he actually introduced me to the series, but didn't own it!) - I usually do everything in my power to avoid paying full retail for anything, but I was happy to pay full price for both. Anyway, he opened it first because I wanted to clarify that the BDS was from my husband and me and the BDM was from our kids. He was so excited that he showed it around to all his friends there (I was surprised that more of them hadn't watched it - they're all DS9, Battlestar Galactica, sci-fi fans). They passed it around and the intrigue increased. Possible conversions: 8! Can't wait to hear how it went after we left the party! I was surprised that more of them hadn't heard of Firefly. Being in this forum and sharing the same love, I just assumed more people were enjoying this show!

unghhh....
Monday, 27 March 2006 03:03:12

i'm usually not much of blogger, but sometimes I just have to write something. Plus I know all the nice Browncoats out there won't laugh at me. i've been toying with an idea for a while now, and I thought I'd let y'all in on it, sos to see what ya think. Alright, 200 years in the future, the Earth gets overcrowded, so we push out and start to colonize the rest of our solar system. sorta like the 1600s in space. America is the dominant superpower, followed by the UEN (United European Nations) which is the UK, France, Spain, Switzerland, Italy, Sweden, Germany, etc. joined together. earth has turned into the "downtown" of the solar system. All high tech equipment, lots of futuristic buildings, where only the rich and powerful can afford to live due to massive inflation. Mars is like the suburbs in some places, and like Skid Row in others. Mars was supposed to be the new Earth, and since it is the closest, most of the not-rich-enough-to-live-on-Earth-but-still-rich people live there. Then there are some areas that are desolate wastes, inhabited by roving bands of bandits. Jupiter and saturn are major mining centers, as is the asteroid belt. But with space traffic comes space piracy. Hence where Nathan Gray comes in. Gray is a down-on-his-luck pirate, close to giving up and becoming a beggar in the slums of Venus. Until he captures the Navy's latest technolgical marvel. The stealth frigate dubbed 'Greyhawk' changed Gray's life. He went from scratching a living off of rocks to practically rolling in cash. But now he has the entire American-Earth Navy after him. which is just how he likes it. Ahhh, fingers hurting. Anyhoo, I'm messing around with this concept, and one of these days I might get around to writing it. feedback would be appreciated. Now I have some....business.....with Sid Meier's Pirates!

Busy day
Monday, 27 March 2006 03:44:47

Hey, gang, heard from the comics people and I sent off some prelim Angel drawings to see if they'll accept them...Here's hoping so needless to say I watched the first six episodes on DVD to get a feel for the character.. On a whole it had some good Whedon type moments..any Angel fans out there got a recommendation on what the best first season show is.. (I only had money for the first season)

Saturdaynight fight
Monday, 27 March 2006 06:30:38

Last night I was at my cusins bar. We were drinking with his friends that we grew up with even though he is years older than I. Well, any how John, the oldest of them sarted to mouth my cusin and me. Things like I bet you can't beat my ass. I told him that I didn't want to beat anyones ass tonight because I was tierd and too busy getting drunk. That's when I looked at my cusin and said, "I didn't come here looking for a fight, but I always seem to find one." He sarted to laugh and John thought we were laughing at him and took a swing at my cusin. Then one of our fellow Browncoats yelled out, "Hey! A tussle!" and jumped in the mix. Well we got into this big fight and beat each other something fierce. then licked our wounds and drank some more as friends... Now I have a semi-black eye and a bruise on my left cheeck, and some knots on my head. But that's what we Okies do for fun any more... Well growing up that's all we had, that and the belt from mom and dad. Now they ruttin took that away from the gorram parents, and look at the kids now days. The crap ain't right. Kids now days need discipline like we had growing up. This time out stuff works with some, but not all. -Chiefy

ive been away from other browncoats for a looooooong time. ive converted a few since then. johnny come latelies. you know, i really have never taken the time to get to know my local browncoats. i guess deep down i get the feeling im not welcome. im an outsider or something. i dont own a cunning hat. in retrospect he chronicles of narnia sucked. king kong was just okay. wouldve been nice if it were more than just a remake. had its good moments. v for vendetta is where im at. now thats a freakin movie. im the outsider. not invited to the little browncoat reindeer games.

Sweet, yet mildly disturbing dreams...
Monday, 27 March 2006 15:21:17

I had a Mal dream last night. Not like THAT...those I keep quiet. Mal, not Nathan, this was Mal, and I were having a moment. I was on the ship. It was one of those moments him and Inara never had. Looking into each others honest eyes, tears welling up. Both about to say things that have been built up for years. He looks at me very delibratley and takes off his boots. He looks up at me with red-rimmed eyes, and he is about 5 feet tall. I tell him I love him anyway. I read to much fan fic.

from day one... and yet no love
Monday, 27 March 2006 18:44:28

well, since comin' back from my long stay away from all things browncoatish i received some messages from those of like mind. like mind in that it seems sometimes that the local browncoat scene is rather like a club with a secret handshake. a handshake i dont know. regardless of the fact that ive converted countless numbers to serenity. regardless that ive been a fan since before day one. part of it may be that i live in BFE, part of it may be that i tend towards reclusivity, but even on the message boards (take your pick which one) a fella gets to feelin' like the best he can hope for is to feel like hes crashing someone elses reunion. meh. this is the reason i went away. its not like im needed, i know that. but it woulda been nice if i felt like i belonged.

I'm BAAAAACK!
Monday, 27 March 2006 22:07:57

Hi! I disconnected my cable & internet in mid-January and left Iowa to travel around warmer climates (Texas, Arizona, California)...and I ended up getting an apartment in Pacifica, California! I had to race back to Iowa to pack and move, but now I'm actually in my new place w/DSL and cable.... and I'll be hanging out more here a fff again (I've missed you guys). So are they still planning the April Fools Day Firefly/Serenity Marathon in Palo Alto?

Serenity
Monday, 27 March 2006 22:10:58

I have a blog that I've had for several years, but this seems like a more logical place for me to post my thoughts on the movie and the show as I'm experiencing them for the first time. I'll be posting about my impressions of Serenity and Firefly over the next few days as a Joss "virgin" (never watched Buffy/Angel or Firefly when it was originally aired).

Beautiful Day! or Bare feet and Spring time
Monday, 27 March 2006 23:30:49

It is a lovely day today. It was sunny and warm and just a teeny bit breezy. It was perfect. I got to go out barefoot today and feel the grass between my toes. And I went and sat in a tree and read for a bit. I love feeling the bark at my back and smelling the growing things. There's a special smell to spring. It's like you can smell everything waking up. It's similar to the way the world smells after a really good rainstorm but more subtle, quieter I guess. I don't know if any of this makes any sense or if I'm just rambling. Like I said, it was also warm enough to go barefoot. I've really missed going barefoot outside. This is one reason that I love River, her afinity for bare feet. I've been a barefoot nutcase my whole life. When I was little my mom had a rule saying that I couldn't go without shoes until the dandelions started to pop. Otherwise I was just as likely to freeze my toes off on ground that was still frozen even if the snow was gone. I just love to feel the earth beneath my feet. Or whatever surface I happen to be walking on. It makes me feel more stable. It's a connection to the earth beneath me I guess. I don't know how to describe it really. I'm a really tactile person. I love to feel things and to touch them. With my hands, with my lips, with my feet. Dirt, mud, grass, stone, bark. I just love how they all feel on my bare feet. So I guess this about bare feet and experiencing nature and the world around you.

Bloody Mouse...
Tuesday, 28 March 2006 00:00:19

So, yesterday was the last straw with regards to my mouse. I click a link and get not the one requested popup, but upto five or six. It is truly agravating when you have to copy/paste things. Try highlighting something, get to the the full area of what you want to copy and then a click happens (that you didn't click) and you lose the highlighting of what you wanted to copy. So, you try again, and again, and... Arrgggghhh! So, hoping that it's the mouse and not the machine, I unplugged that one and plugged the one button apple mouse in. And for a straight day, nothing bad has happened. So, it was the mouse. It now lies on my floor waiting to be desposed of. Though, now I feel naked. No right button, no scroll wheel. Just isn't right. So, next time I go into the city, I think I'm going to pick up a Mighty Mouse! Anyone have any experience with it? Pros/cons? I'm kind of picky about the stuff I use.

Happy Birthday Nathan!

Just a shoutout to my favourite Captain, hoping your birthday is shiny! In other news, I have, as of today, officially worked for the same company for 10 years now. The good news being I get 5 more days of holidays a year now! Yay Me! In other Other news, I actually wrote a couple of paragraphs on my shiny yellow writing tablet today... it's not much, but it's a start!

Hello fellow fanattics!
Tuesday, 28 March 2006 01:18:59

Hello fellow firefly fanatics! Although the first time i even heard of firefly was from my friend Garrison in 2004, i never really gave it a chance until I saw Serenity. That movie was the best movie ive ever seen. So I gave firefly a chance. It turns out that the show blows the movie out of the watter. And just recently I was on one of my obbsesive searches on google. This time I searched for firefly. The first thing that poped p was this website. So thats why i'm here. But back to firefly. I was so dissapointed when, right after I first watched the DVD and fell in love with the show, garrison told me that this show wasn't on anymore i felt like........ :hanged:. Well until next time :finger: Malcomreynoldsisgod

anybody else?
Tuesday, 28 March 2006 14:33:22

this thought just popped into my mind...would Jayne and Saffron make a good couple...cause seriously he is not the brightest guy in the world and she is pretty intellegent so that is a good match there they even eachother out and they are both likely to betray eachother for money so they would make a great couple really. and he would not even have to trade Vera for her...though the relationship probably would not last long would it...since she would probably betray him to his death or vise versa.

Lil Browncoat
Tuesday, 28 March 2006 15:48:30

Driving home from work last night, my Lil Cherub pointed to a pedestrian wearing a long brown wax coat/duster. She said "He's got the same coat as you, Daddy. Maybe he likes Firefly too!" I was all choked up!

the pain spreads
Tuesday, 28 March 2006 19:08:34

It's a familiar story, but this is the first time I've been the one telling it, so here goes... I've been lending my Firefly DVDs to a co-worker, and I brought in the fourth and left it in his office this morning. (After discs 1 and 2, he didn't seem sufficiently addicted to buy the set himself, so I decided to lend all four.) He just stopped by my office to say he watched the whole third DVD in one sitting, cause he couldn't wait to save it for his treadmill time like he did the first two DVDs. Could I please bring in the next? I said, the next is in your office. He said, Yeah, thanks, but the one after that? I delivered the bad news and there was that look of pain and disbelief, followed by the need for clarification, (Only four? really?... really?), followed by the sharing of bad news with his wife (who also works here). Poor guy.

Finished in time!
Wednesday, 29 March 2006 00:45:15

I felt like sharing the good news! I've actually managed to finish my Computer Science assignment (University). Over 2000 lines of java code that actually works complete with written test plan. This will mean very little to most of you (frankly the code makes my head spin :knife:) but I felt the need to share and it's 1.30am here and everyone else is asleep. Wow... this means I can actually go to bed now and try not to have dreams involving annoying lines of coding like System.out.println("") :pissed:. Maybe I won't even have my usual nightmares about semi-colons I missed out causing whole programs to crash. Sleep well everyone!

Serenity was the best movie ever
Wednesday, 29 March 2006 02:10:44

"did the primary buffer pannel just fall of my ship for no apparent reason?" One of the great movie quotes of all time. But will it have a follow up? Will there be a "Serenity 2" of sorts? Although I've heard rumors i dont think the world will ever know. Well unless there is one of course. Until next time :finger: malcomreynoldsisgod

Don't look
Wednesday, 29 March 2006 05:16:44

There is nothing here. It wasn't woth the effort of clicking on it. Anyway, since there's some space to write here I might as well tell you about last night. I may have steard a fellow toward the verse last night. I was with a group of people talkin about stuff and I mentioned Serenity (I try to fit it into as many conversations as possible ). This guy (I won't tell you his name) asked if it was any good. He had obvoiusly heard of it but hadn't seen it. I, of course entlightened him. I also just had to mention Firefly. Mention of the show got a bloank look from him. Damn FOX and thier idiotic marketing! I proceded to tell him some, but not too much, about it and he left looking thoughtful. I believe he will check it out. I'll have to ask him the next time I see him.

Wesley has picked his birthday
Wednesday, 29 March 2006 07:40:02

Cowgirl and I have our first grand child, Wesley Neal Swanson. He was born at 12:22 a.m. on March 29th. After 14 hours of labor they decided to deliver him by caesarean section. He weighed 8.1 lbs., 20 3/4 inches long, and his head was 14" around. The Mother and Child are doing well and the Father is rightfully proud. (As are Cowgirl and I) Thanks to all of you who wished us well. I'll add some pictures as soon as I have a chance.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!
Wednesday, 29 March 2006 11:03:13

OK, so it's finally my birthday and my party is this weekend **WOO HOO** It was a gorram awful day, except I got to talk to my sweetheart, and I have my plane ticket booked to head over for my month of shiny times. I can't wait to see him. *Offers around big slices of my left over chocolate marble cake*

Downloadable interviews
Wednesday, 29 March 2006 14:00:13

Does anyone know if there is any site(s) out there that have lists of all the various Firefly/Serenity interviews, featurettes, video clips that can be downloaded? I keep finding random interviews everywhere but for most of them you can only watch them online and not download to disk.

Uniform Identification Guide Project begins
Wednesday, 29 March 2006 20:05:32

Using screencaps and such from the TV show, I'm beginning an "Alliance Uniform Identification" guide. Here's what I have so far: Colonel (The Train Job) Commander (2 variants: bushwhacked and Serenity) Lieutenant (The Message) Ensign (Serenity) Communications Officer(bushwhacked) Field Commander (Trash) Naval Trooper (Trash& Ariel) Federal Trooper (The Train Job & Others) Medical Staff(Bushwhacked) Federal Marshal (Ariel) I think the guy who comes aboard to look over Book (Safe) was probably a commander, but his hat is a bit different. Any thing I missed? My thinking on the distinct differences between Firefly and Serenity is as follows: Firefly shows us the Naval troops and officers while Serenity showed us a kind of Parliamentary Special corps. A Special division of the military specific to parliamentary operations. I'll probably handle them seperately.

I'm sick :-(
Thursday, 30 March 2006 04:04:44

And I have a test tomorrow. Oh joy. Normally, I wouldn't worry about this test, but I can think of several instances where I didn't test very well because I was sick, and I'm not sure what my grade is, so... grr. Plus, I have to go home on friday and go to an open house for the school I'm transfering to next semester on saturday. Hopefully, I will be better by then, but I can't tell right now. :-( This is going to delay the next Chapter of Over the Hills and Far Away. It's about half written now, but I don't expect to have time to work on the rest until next week.

Morbid and Creepifying
Thursday, 30 March 2006 04:21:01

I think I might have stumbled over a suicide note today. I might be misconstruing what I saw though. I was walking across the bridge (which is suspended over a 25-30 foot drop) when I saw a message written in chalk. It said: I am looking for courage For the one with will The one I want The one I become will Catch me It was too dark to see if there were any bodies at the bottom, so I don't know if it truly was a suicide note or not. I do know that the writting was less than three hours old when I saw it. It's really creepy and I'm not sure if I am misreading this somehow.

New fic, and a preview
Thursday, 30 March 2006 04:36:18

Posted a new fic today, "A Powerful Need." I'm really quite happy with how this one turned out. If you're a Simon/Kaylee shipper, or a fan of NC-17 fics (not naming names. Ya'll know who ya are), check it out. As for upcoming fics, There'll be one, maybe two more PWPs (Porn Without Plot) and then... PLOT. I know, shocking, right? But yeah, I am gonna branch out to include more of the rest of the crew, ongoing storylines, etc. Where are you going? Hey, get back here! There'll still be porn! Sheesh!

The Optimist, the Pessimist, and the Realist
Thursday, 30 March 2006 04:48:11

So there are these three guys who (through one way or another) came across a glass of water one day when walking through a desert of no name and no real location. The first one, who was an optimist, looked at the glass and said, "Look! A glass of water! And what luck, it is half full. Enough for all three of us!" The second, who was a pessimist, looked at the same glass, and remarked, "Are you crazy? There's no way that glass can sustain us all! For, you see, it is clearly half empty!" The third, who was a realist, replied, "You fools. Can't you see that there is no glass; it is merely a mirage." (I don't know what this means or how it came to my mind, but it did and now we all shall suffer for it. Thank you.) (Huzzah.) (Your friend and mine,) (TheSoapboxer)

Thursday, 30 March 2006 19:04:43

So the squirrel(s) that live in the little space between my ceiling and the exterior roof are scrabbling around way more than usual and I'm hearing squeaks. I'm tempted to say they are having sex, but seeing as I'm pretty sure that's what happens at 3 a.m. when I'm trying to sleep, I'm going to have to say that they are probably caught in the traps that the landlord set. Now I'm leaving so I don't have to listen to this anymore.

Dish Pan Hands

I work from home; IT stuff. Right now I'm in the design phase and I want to do a damn good job. So, I only work when pretty much fully awake and while working, I do a lot of pacing, rolling things around in my brain. Want to get it right the first time  But, the result of this is that, while I'm walking around, sometimes letting my back-burner go at a problem, I want to be productive. Just now it was the pots. I washed them. So, now my hands are all wrinkly. I didn't think it was bad so I just came back to work again. Then I touched paper. Soggy hands touching paper, yuck. Now I have to wait for my hands to dry out before I can get back to work. So, I thought I'd write this blog while I wait. Damn water... *grumble*

Great Grandmother
Thursday, 30 March 2006 21:12:25

My Great Grandmother died two summers ago. I didn't know her as much as i would have liked to... We lived so far away from each other. She was 96 an old lived woman... dependent and loving till the end. I recently received my Firefly soundtrack in the mail and when i listened to Tears/River's Eyes, I cried and all my mind could think about was my great grandmother. So i wrote her a poem, a poem for my Beloved June Flora Kerr to ease my pain inspired by tears. ...................... the rest of this Blog has been deleted

Feelin Poetical
Friday, 31 March 2006 05:47:38

I'm just sitting up late, listening to the night sounds. There are so many lovely sounds in the world. There's the sound of the wind. How it moans sadly around the building, how it makes the tree branches creak. The pleasant sigh of a soft breeze. Then there's less natural things, like the sound a pop can makes when you open it or the pop when you open a sealed glass jar. Or...Wait... There's a train passing in the distance. I've always loved that sound. The faint rumble of the tracks, felt as much as heard, the almost melancholy sound of the horn blowing that, nontheless, makes my smile and thing of big skies and summer nights. Mmmmmmmm. Night train passing. Then there is the sound of the season. Each has it's own. In a resent blog I talked about the smell of spring and the sound is similar. Of course there are the animal sounds that were missing in the winter; buzzing insects, chirping and croaking frogs, birds singing. But there's more to it. It's almost as if you can hear the earth waking up. The trees, the grass, the flowers. All starting to stir and to stretch. Bahh. It's late and I'm babbling. Listen to me. Wool gathering like a moon brain. Still. Right now, at this moment, I am content. And that is all I could ask.

Anderson Returns to the Gate Submitted by: Kyle Nin (SoSF Reporter) Richard Dean Anderson (General Jack O'Neill) will make a return visit through the Stargate in season ten to mark and celebrate the show's unprecendented 200th episode. On the 200th, O'Neill and the SG-1 Team will be serving as consultants to a television series that has remarkable similarities to the real SGC. Now, I know that premise sounds familiar. We all remember when the DeLuise brothers did something like that a few years back, but executive producer Robert C. Cooper and co-creator Brad Wright say this one really is very different and the story goes in a whole other direction that no one will expect. And there is more good news. Anderson's return will not be limited to this one special appearance. The General is expected to be in several other episodes of both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis, both shows making their season premiere's this summer. One final bit of news concerning the 200th episode of Stargate SG-1 - the cast and crew have thrown in a nice little nod of recognition to Joss Whedon's Firefly/Serenity. See if you catch it when SG-1 returns. Posted by sksloan at March 30, 2006 | Comments (4)

Gorram it!!!
Friday, 31 March 2006 15:55:44

Looks like I won't be able to see Slither. The one theatre in Ass-End (a.k.a. Cornwall), Ontario isn't opening it this weekend (which, from experience, means they're not opening it ever). I can hardly request a ride to another town to see a movie that no one else around me wants to see (gimme a ride, drop me off for two hours, then pick me up again), so it looks like I'm gonna have to let the Captain down. Gorram ruttin' hell. I HATE this town! :finger:

Don't the "Suits" like $$$$$
Friday, 31 March 2006 18:44:07

It's phenomenal the amount of money Sci-Fi fans are willing to spend on their hobbies, esp. FireFly fans...guess we're nerds(?) Come on "Suits" - read the polls, please bring back FireFly, we'll finance ya! I've already arranged for a second loan on my dog (poor Fluffy). :) Anyone heard any updates/rumors regarding the recent meeting between Gina, Summer & Nathan? Thanks!
