Why do I let them hurt me?

Y'know, I think I might have finally had the big ephiphany regarding the current state of comics today. Over at DC, Wonder Woman is snapping people's necks and the whole Justice League is mind-raping super villains. Superman (or at least Earth-2 Superman, it's complicated) wants to destroy the world.

Over at Marvel, we have yet more pointless character deaths and idiotic stunts. Is it really believable that the entire superhero community of the Planet Earth would decide to up and start killing each other over government legislation? Does it make any sense for people who live and fight together, daily, to come to blows overnight for no real reason? Oh wait, I forgot, a bunch of the characters who HAVE NEVER SHOWN ANY KIND OF MACHIAVELLIAN TRAITS have been secretly meeting up and making dark and sinister plans, darkly and sinisterly. Plus, look at Spidey's new costume. Blech.

Bottom line, I think they've finally broken me. I'm gonna start phasing comics out of my life now. At least, the new ones. I loves me the DC cartoons, and I'm going to start picking up Marvel's great Eseentials line (reprinting of 20 or so back issues of great characters like Spider-Man and the X-Men at a pop) and enjoy the characters for what they were.

That, and I've always got Tobey Maguire's Spidey to keep me company. Thank God for Sam Raimi.

On a totally unrelated note now that I've cathartically bared my sould to any reader interested in seeing this, I will shamelessly plug my fanfic! The first eight stories are already up in the BSR (check my profile, it's easier than linking) and the last story, Book's Tale, is in editing right now. With luck, it'll be up by week's end!
