Everybody plays each other?

The other day I saw a post, by a dear fellow browncoat, that saddened me, for her. She said Love scares her. Primarily because people always want something in return for that "Love". I guess she adheres to the saying that "Pure love is a willingness to give without a thought of receiving anything in return."

But, see, that makes me all sad inside; because I believe true Love, while unconditional, is a very mutual thing. It's like Kayna said, in that story about the rope: that while I was climbing out of the cave, it counterbalanced the rope, so she could climb back over the edge of a cliff she'd been clinging to for a while. Similarly, when I write something nice to people, and it makes them happy, then it makes me happy, too. Is that bad? I dunno. People tend to twist the beauty of this truth, and warp it to mean that any person who does well, does so for the reward. But I'd like to turn this around, and ask you: does not, in the end, every person want to make a difference? And is not the natural consequence thereof, that we're happy with a positive result? If this means I "want something in return", then I suppose I'm guilty. Because yes, I feel most happy when I know I made a difference in someone's life (however small that difference may be).

I guess this blog turned out not to make as much sense as I had hoped. It just saddens me that people would toss away perfectly good Love, basically just because they're misguided, I would say, in the belief the other person is not supposed to get anything out of it. See, I'm with Emerson, who said: "It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself."

A bit confused.
