blech-- not an original moment in this three hour thing. Think of the worst grossout bug crap from temple of doom and multiply by ten..... You know a movie is bad when you make up dialog like "There's no way our 25' monster, who slays three dinosaurs can escape from our chains." "Why, not?" "---Cause." "Oh, yeah this is gonna go good."

requests
Sunday, 01 January 2006 02:01:22

I've been getting a lot of request for my artwork including one from summerglau.net. Inspiring to say the least. You all keep liking them and I'll keep doing them. I might throw in a few in different styles to keep from getting bored.. but I never seem to stray to far from my comic book style for very long. Just somthing about a sable brush and ink I like the look of. so keep the request coming and keep flying.

Hello everyone!! :) My name is Steven, and I wanted to say hello to everyone here! I just joined today. I wanted to say a few things that you all have probably read a few times - - I love the Firefly 'verse, SO MUCH. It has a place in my heart, and it always will. And sadly we only have 15 episodes if you count the film as well. I own the season on DVD and the movie as well. - I currently cannot get enough of Firefly, despite having seen everything there is to see. I am now buying the Comic books (What few there are) and will be buying the novels as they release. Call me a devoted fan. I want to thank Joss Whedon for making this world and giving it to us to fall in love with. Thank you Joss, keep up the great work. I'll always be a huge fan. And I would like to say thanks to all of you fans/browncoats! If it wasn't for you the film would not have happened. A little about me, I am 20 years old and am currently enrolled in college trying to attain a major in English and a minor in writing. And I think Nathan Fillion is cute. So you might hear me proclaiming my fascination for him more than once. Nice to meet you all!!

So the day's winding down, I forgot my password, then remembered it...and no one I know is on, I've read all the fanfics that interest me, wondered why the River/Simon pairing exists... And then I got nothin' to do, when bam, I remember, "I have a BLOG to bore people with!" Shiny, ain't it? Well, what's new in my life? Attaining levels of boredom never before conceived, being extremely envious of Citizen's mathematical smarts, then being extremely proud of myself for understanding most of what he (unless it's a she) is sayin'... I'm 14, and being able to type at this age is a rutting (with a g) miracle, so things are looking positive. Perhaps in two years, I can say somethin' smart in physics-speak and confound a 14 year old... I've bored you for long enough, reader. Go on, watch 5 episodes like a good Browncoat should, keep your room clean like me...but that's only 'cause I'm an obsessive-compulsive megalomaniac, which probably has -somethin'- to do with the whole 5 episodes a day for a total of 35 episodes a week which breaks down to seeing each episode 7 times. I think. Shutting up now.

Hi
Sunday, 01 January 2006 04:29:28

So... this is my first post. I am a new lover of the FIRELFY universe. I bought the complete series and got SERENITY for Christmas. I LOVE the Mal/Inara and Simon/Kaylee relationships. I am such a sucker for romance. I'm such a girl. Which I am, by the way. Just in case you were wondering.

Beta Reader Request
Sunday, 01 January 2006 07:20:15

Hi! I would like to request a Beta Reader. I have a little bit of my story done.

A Challenge, to any and all who dare...
Sunday, 01 January 2006 09:37:49

Ok so it's not really that ominous. I just had an idea for a challenge fic. It's called "The Orange Hats are invading- Save Us Captain!" Challenge: If you choose to accept it you must include the following: -A rubber duck -Tomato soup -A crew member's birthday -Jayne's orange hat (which we all love dearly) -A mention of Pirates (the comical pirates with eye patches and parrots) -Vera and at least one drunked crew member. I plan on giving it a shot, I hope some others might rise to the challenge. Oh and if you're super daring you could try including a song from 'Earth That Was' and a mention of one of those ceramic swans. Good Luck, I plan on posting mine by the end of the week

A Huge Firefly Fan
Sunday, 01 January 2006 10:56:53

I have been a fan of firefly since it originaly aired. I also am on a few fansites, and I own the entire series and Serenity on DVD. The Firefly just blows me away, so bulky but yet graceful. You're never disappointed by her unless you don't pay attention to her and something bad happens (refering to Out Of Gas). I love the show and the movie adds a great prespective to it. Even though they killed off my 2nd fav character, those bastards. But I've heard some talk about possibly a 2nd season of Firefly coming out, if it does it better be based before the movie.

Mal/Inara sites

Anyone know a good Mal/Inara site? I've been trying to find one and google isn't being very helpful. I'm getting very frustrated. :banghead:

BDM?
Sunday, 01 January 2006 21:17:45

This is going to make me sound really stupid, but what does BDM mean. I know that it refers to the movie SERENITY, but I just don't get what it stands for and I've been seeing it all over the place. It's actually driving me a little bit crazy. A lot of things tend to do that.

Browncoats compared to other fans...
Sunday, 01 January 2006 23:04:33

I've been a part of many fandoms in my life and each has their own...'quirks'... Anime fans range as much as the title does. Sometimes they're sensible, sometimes they're a little crazy, and sometimes...they're Inuyasha fans. But depnding on their personality, they can be usually very easy to get along with. But many hate the idea of dubs and I know most of us hate censorship. Me and many of my friends get into rants over Toonami's blood edits. Green Day fans are often like the band themselves. Cynical of society, but crazy and hyper in the same body. But I can't get along with most of the fans I meet online. Well, except for the Pantsing Mike Brigade, but we reccently got deleted from the face of GSB. Also, some older fans are really bitter about their new commercial success and commonly generalize the new fans as immature teenagers who only know American Idiot and only like them for their looks. *shakes head* But often times, these new fans become true blue veterans and are as knowlegdible as the people who've been into them for 10 years. Not all fans fit this negative image I've painted...but they're are days I can't stand those fans. Dead Like Me fans...they are the closest things to Browncoats I've experienced before I started watching Firefly. We're all different but we get brought together about this little show about grim reapers. And not to mention we had a grave injustice commited against us too...damn network execs thought Fat Actress and Weeds were better buys. We've tried to fight though...hell, Browncoats are often used as examples when we talk about bringing the show back. And they're open to new fans too. Browncoats though...they're some of the best fans I've ever seen. They were...and still are...extremely passionate. They never gave up because they saw something big in our favorite little show. And with Serenity, they did the impossible. Not to mention they are EXTREMELY open to new fans!! Even though I've only been into it for not even 4 months, I've never felt out of place. But why did it take me so long to join here? Oh well. Thanks for reading my useless mini-essay.

First Day of the New Year
Sunday, 01 January 2006 23:34:11

Well, here I sit in a quandary, needing to pour out lots of stuff that I'm feeling, but knowing that this is a public forum and not wanting to hint at my problems to other folks. Suffice it to say... there may have to be changes that will be difficult this year. A relationship may have to end, after many years, and running along in tandem with this prospect is the fact that my baby daughter is getting her first job, is in love and will likely be leaving home soon. Not maybe immediately soon, but soon. Funny thing is, my husband seems to be pushing this on, and I'm not happy about that. Can't seem to explain to him, for the life of me, that he may want her to be on her own now, but he will miss her. Or is it possible that this man is truly going to be happy when she leaves home? Seems like it to me, and I just can't understand that, for I'm going to be very lonely and sad to see her go. Yea, I know, I know, the old "empty nest syndrome" is what I'm feeling, but it's also that I like my daughter, I enjoy her company and I'm just flat out gonna miss her. And I find I am having not so good feelings toward my husband for being so pushy with her. He makes her feel unwelcome.. and I'm pissed about that. Well, the old year went out with this constant nagging thing, it seems it will begin with it too. God, I'm glad I have Firefly and this board to call my home too, or I think I'd just get a little crazy. On a lighter note... my Mom went to a family dinner and took " Serenity" to share with my aunt and cousin and family. They will get hooked there is no denying it and they have a large circle of friends who will get hooked and on it goes. Thank you to my Mom who remembered to take it and spread the Firefly love.

My New Years was spent watching Serenity, midnight struck just as my favourite character DIED, so that was sad. But still! It was Shiny.

The neophyte's song
Monday, 02 January 2006 04:50:47

Wow. I've been lurking around this site (amongst others) for awhile now, feeling out the browncoat community. And now that I've actually got myself an account set up, I've just gotta say, Wow. This place is incredible. So much good stuff floating around in this community. I've always been a fan of lost causes, and the 'verse is definitely worth fighting for. So many great characters, brilliant writing, all the good stuff one expects from quality fiction. Truly, Joss Whedon is my master now. Well, as a newbie, I suppose I should make the obligatory "forgive my ignorance" statement. Hopefully I'll be around alot, haunting the boards like some horrible gremlin, spouting off about stuff like I know what I'm talking about. Also, expect some fanfic soon. Hopefully it will be of tolerable quality. At the very least, no one will hurl their monitor in fury. That's what I'm going for "Do not cause monitor hurling fury with your writing." A man has to know his limitations.

Oh, what's this...?

Watchin' Serenity right now... almost over, *tear*. Dunno what this is all about. this kinda looks like a pirate

Revising...
Monday, 02 January 2006 17:01:47

To all you who liked my first fic, thanks so much!! I did post a second chapter, however I feel like I rushed it. So I took it off and I'm revising to make it even better. I'll post it as soon as I can. Thanks again for all the positive feedback! Stay Shiny.

Yep.

Serenity RPG woes
Monday, 02 January 2006 20:55:54

I am an avid RPGer and have been for the last 20 years (I am such a Geek...but a cute geek..humble?....not so much) So when I saw the Serenity RPG I was appropriately excited. Whereas the game has efinate potential, I was a little disappointed. On the up-side it is a brand new game and a new system so there will be changes I am sure. The combat is a little vague and the information a little scetchy in alot of areas. Now where that does not sound much like an endorsement it is. One reason is it gives you the creative freedom to do whatever the person runnning the game would like to do. Which is always good, however guidlines for people new to the verse would help sales and playability alot. Now my job keeps me pretty much in the dark about most things so any thoughts comments or ideas including updates that I can't keep up with please let me know. Are theere any other takes on this?

A tip of the hat to Robert Heinlein
Monday, 02 January 2006 22:48:25

Whether Joss W. realizes it or not, he's drawn upon one of my favorite Sci-Fi authors of all times when it comes to how humanity will colonize the stars. If you've never read "Time Enough for Love" or "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" take the time. In it Robert H. shows a future where it makes perfect sense to mix the super high tech of Star Trek with the 'primitive' aspects of pioneer life from the 19th century. He even makes the connection between a pregnant pig and the need to turn back to civilization should you not be at the half-way point to your destination with a pregnant wife. In my opinion, this is exactly how colonization of the far flung star systems will proceed. Not with all the high tech gadgets you see on today's TV Sci-fi but with just enough to get by (hires imagery from Landsats and other critical information to make your stake in the world.) All this was predicted in the late 50's, early 60's which is both amazing and expected (Apollo moon mission succeeded with technology halfway between your digital watch and a digital calculator and LOTS of slide rules!) To me, what makes Firefly / Serenity special is not the gee-wiz tecno-babble but the way it still takes that curiosity of what's really out there and make it compelling and how we fit into the 'verse. If I had my 'druthers I'd be on Serenity in a heartbeat if not for the adventure then for the desire to be a part of the human need to explore the deep crevasses of of the unexplained and the nature of the 'verse. Now, if I could just figure a way to pay for passage on Serenity and make my self useful to Mal/Zoe/Kaylee et. al. so I can stay beyond a simple passage between the known worlds...

Nihao! You there?

Hey, just wanted to see if Nihao was here, hope he'll respond! Found him on Inheritance Forums, and was glad to see a fellow browncoat. Later! -Icarus

English teachers love Serenity...sorta...
Tuesday, 03 January 2006 01:54:37

A while back in my Brit Lit class(yes, I'm still in high school. Hard to tell by my last blog...), we were talking about 'Rime of the Old Mariner' and I was immediately reminded of Mal's line about the albatross in Serenity. Sadly, I hadn't seen the movie in about a month or two so I couldn't remember the exact line, but I gave her the general summary anyway. Well, today being my first day back to school(ugh) and Serenity fresh on my mind, I told her that bit of the conversation between the Operative and Mal. Operative:River Tam is not to be trusted. She is an albatross. Mal:Well, it's to my understanding that the albatross was a bird of good fortune until some idiot killed it. (turns to Inara)Yes, I've read a poem. Try not to faint. She got a good laugh out of that.

Exisistentialism, whoa
Tuesday, 03 January 2006 05:48:10

Just got off watching the commentaries on the Firefly set. I generally don't like commentary tracks, I prefer to let the stories speak for themselves. But, spurred on by the kind of frenetic brilliance and hilarity one can expect from Nathan, Joss, Alan, and Jewel, I couldn't resist. Anyhoo, finished Objects in Space and spent about twenty minutes pacing around throwing the implications in my head. Meaning and how it is assigned and imbued is fascinating, and it leads to all kinds of mental aerobics. I haven't really tackled any philosophical stuff in a few years, when I last took a Philosophy course, so it was fun to run that stuff through. Man, I love this show.

happy birthday... to me
Tuesday, 03 January 2006 07:09:52

it's my birthday. i'm 29. it seems old to me, for having gotten nothing done. i had a mini-quarter-life crisis when i was 25, but i think i'm doing all right. i know, it sounds stupid to be worrying about turning 30 next year, because 30's not old. it's not. maybe i'm just being a self-absorbed freak, which is probably the case. no, for reals, it's kind of cool. i've never been 29 before. it could be fun. who knows? i get to go eat israeli food tonight, so whatever happens in the next year, i've got the "good beginning" thing covered. that's it. just wanted to wish myself a happy birthday. yay me, for being born today. i think i share a birthday with j.r.r. tolkien. now that's a birthday to celebrate.

Well would you look at that a blog section...
Tuesday, 03 January 2006 10:29:51

So i'm not gonna pretend i hadn't seen this blog bit, just never bothered putting something in it but since No blog entries available just looks depressing i thought i should put at least one in here... I'm having trouble filling this up so the rest is going to consist of smileys feel freee to run away from the crazy person now.               Well... that should about do it. -Geekmafia

Firefly/Serenity Tattoos
Tuesday, 03 January 2006 13:32:37

This has been some debate between my husband and I. We thought that we would get the same one that has something to do with firefly/serenity. Has anyone got one or is considering one? Just wanted to see what some others might be getting.

Order of Firefly
Wednesday, 04 January 2006 00:44:53

So on Christmas I have received the Firefly box set and after a while I noticed that the episodes were out of order, according to the release date. Do you think that there was meaning it it, like Joss Weldon put them in the order he wanted to or of importance or did they just throw them in any random order? And about the never aired episodes. I have see Heart of Gold on TV, Sci-Fi, is there something about that too. I loved them though. They were awesome, i am thinking of starting some fan fiction. i dunno. It depends if I have the time. Well, later. Peace!

Nature vs Nurture in the case of reavers and why I became a browncoat instead of a trekkie.
Wednesday, 04 January 2006 02:32:45

Today in my government class, we watched an episode of the original Star Trek to see how it dealt with civil rights in the 60s. I could see the meaning but I couldn't help but be reminded why I didn't like Star Trek, no matter what year it was. It was just so boring and hokey to me. I never quite saw what my parents saw in it. Then I think about Firefly and what appealed to me about it. Sure, Joss said he had the Cheese factor in there, but I guess I loved how the series wasn't a normal sci-fi series. And in Serenity, the writing was spot on. Much better than Lucas's writing in Star Wars. But I ramble...I want to get to my other point. In bio, we started talking about Nature vs Nurture. My teacher said something about DNA in corn and some kid said something about how Plastic Surgery applied to it too. Well, it made me think about Miranda and the Reavers in Serenity. I'm guessing we've all seen the movie by now, so I shouldn't have to worry about spoiling. Anyway, the people of Miranda were normal human beings with conflicts. The Alliance tried to bring in peace and try to nurture this planet into falling under their beliefs. It backfired though when 90% of the population died and the other 10% went crazy and turned into these horrible creatures called Reavers. Despite the backfire, Miranda and the Reavers were the Alliance's attempts of nurturing. Bad nurturing, but still nurturing... Too bad I couldn't tell that to the class. No one would know what I was talking about and the treehugger would have dismissed me for using a fictional sitiuation. Oh well...

comic strip firefly
Wednesday, 04 January 2006 05:08:33

Hard at work now trying to get the first in hopefully many more firefly comic strips done ..the response was terrific to say the least.. I'm leaning more toward a post ois pre serenity setting since I love the series a tad more then the movie, and hey, why not do somthing I like. Beside I like Wash and Book... Drawing it is, for me, the easy part. Coming up with a good storyline is taking a bit more time... So if everyone bears with me I see where this horse takes me...Adios, Amigos..

The Problem with Hesitation
Wednesday, 04 January 2006 10:38:11

"Ante up, boy," my father once told me as we looked over the edge of a large rock, river beneath us and rope swing in hand. "You made it this far, don't quit on me now." As much as I would like to say I took that breath, leaned back a little and jumped off the edge into watery consumption, I can't. I choked at the very tip of the rock, mind racing with the possibilities of what could happen. The rope could break, shooting me straight into the rocks below. I could mistime my step, fall off the edge, scramble for the rope and miss, and hit the rocks below. I could get halfway out there, soil myself in fear, swing back inwards, hit the rock and go crashing down to the other rocks below. A lot of that fear that I had obviously had something to do with the fact that the rock we were standing on was surrounded by a bunch of other smaller, but still sharp, stones. That fear made me hesitate, and I'll tell you, it didn't help at all to see him grab the rope from me, lean back, and hurtle into the air, taking with him all of my certainty and the five dollars I owed him because I almost pissed myself. I hesitated, and because of that, I let the fear get the better of me. That unsure feeling rooted me right to the stone at my feet, making my insides clench in manners that usually aren't too nice to feel. All the thoughts of pain and hurting and breaking my leg into a million pieces overran my brain, because I let the common sense that told me not to go jumping off of big rocks freeze that one image of the drop. As we all know, it's not easy to forego the common sense your parents and teachers and family taught you, especially when it's them that's encouraging you to forget about it. And it also doesn't help when you know that encouragement is something that's probably gonna put you in some amount of hurting if you screw up. Right when you imagine that first thought of failing, you squeeze yourself into doubt, then out of that, hesitation. You know the rest, since I just finished describing it. And we all know as well that sometimes, maybe not often, but sometimes, scaring the go-se out of your mind is the better choice. So when we went back a few months later, I stood on the same rock, on the same edge, with the same pointy stones beneath me, only with more trash strewn about. I started thinking about rusty cans and tetanus shots and broken open heads, and right at the pinnacle of the moment of fear, when I was absolutely positive I wouldn't make the swing, I grabbed the rope, looked down, dropped it again, and walked backwards from the edge. Then I ran, grabbed it, and without stopping to realise fully what I did, stepped back again, frustrated with the fear in me. That's about the time I fell off the rock, swung out all the way, and landed on a rock that was just under the water's surface, one that somehow my father had missed. I broke my right leg, which was kind of ironic, since I won back the five dollars, but owed him about three hundred more.

One Week To Go!!!
Wednesday, 04 January 2006 13:55:49

And I can rejoin the human race...or at least the browncoats, i may even pop back into the sereni-tree, wonder what has been happening over there. In other words, life is calming down a bit, my thesis will be over next week, Christmas will have finished, as will the multitude of enforced in-law events (oh joy). Sorry to anyone who has expected the odd email or even post. Apologies also to those who are reading this going 'who, what, where'. On the other hand, why should i apologise if my god-like status isn't recognised by other humans. This is a travesty. All must bow down and worship the emma... *large hammer falls on emma's head*

d20 Firefly
Wednesday, 04 January 2006 18:17:32

I know that there's a new Firefly/Serenity RPG out there but I'm ornery and set in my ways. That said, I'm thinking of starting a Firefly RPG using the rules from d20 modern/future. I was wondering if anyone could help me by letting me know about any d20 Firefly sites or material that's already out there. I'm particularly interested in ships and stats for characters from the series. Thanks. Keep flying.

Moving forward
Wednesday, 04 January 2006 18:36:25

My life has just drastically changed. I just broke up with my fiancee of 3.5 years - also known as STATIC. I learned of his ongoing infidelity that lasted for over a year. Now it's a matter of picking up the pieces of my shattered heart and moving on. I wish him the best of luck. I really do. And I also know that a number of people on this site knew about the whole matter. Don't worry I'm not particulary mad. I am at him though. So ladies, you can have him. Maybe you'll end up luckier than I did. Just be sure to guard your heart from him. Don't expect him to respect you either. Why can't men be more loyal and honorable?

Anybody See the TV Guide This Past Week?
Wednesday, 04 January 2006 19:26:48

I was just sitting here thinking about funny things that I saw over the weekend. Joss had a letter in the TV guide and it was hysterical. There was a firefly/serenity mention at the end. I was just laughing my head off. Just thought that I would blog about it because I thought about it.

my first fanfic, yippy!
Wednesday, 04 January 2006 21:15:57

I have discovered the joy of writing fanfic! I am almost ready to start posting, but I need a mentor. In particular, a beta read and some help with formatting. Before you volunteer, be warned my fic is currently at 57,000 words in 19 chapters, with a bit more to be done on the ending. I know, I'm crazy, but it just took on its own life. Further warning: I've never written any fiction before, so although I think my story rocks  I make no promises that anyone else will agree... Also because I'm crazy, I didn't start with something simple. Simple just ain't my style. It's been tricky to write, and it's dark. Angst and more angst with a little horror thrown in. But there's some fun things and a tiny bit of NC/17 too. weeeee, my own fanfic!

Is this a great week or what? Came home today to find my shiny browncoat bracelets had arrived!!! They're very cool, and thick enough that they hold their shape and don't twist all up... much better than many of the cheapy silcone bracelets Iv'e seen around, totally shiny! And not only that, but my Totally Amazing patches arrived today!!! I got me 4 browncoat patches, one blue sun patch, and one alliance security patch. These things are amazing!!!! Already I think I'm gonna be ordering more... I'm soooo friggin' happy!!!!

Is there a way to make this official?
Thursday, 05 January 2006 03:39:07

I saw this post for a Firefly petition like a month ago, mebe more. And I am so glad that people keep re-posting it, as I did. But is there a way to make this like the "official" place to sign? Cause there is probably like...well, I'm not good with numbers, but...A LOT!!! I think that it would be cool if it got posted on the permanent homepage. I don't know who keeps this site (great job by the way, if your readin'), or all the technical-ness behind it, but mebe we can finish this one if everyone sees it. It's just a thought, lemme know whatcha think (especially, the moderator of the site, I'm assuming you participate in all the fun we have here. ;) Here is that link again, case ya missed it!!!

If anyone couold help me out I think we have a real good chance at this. I do also think dc4bs has a good point and I will look for other good Petitions around, but if I don't find a good one its on. Thanks to everyone that gave me their comments they were great.

More Firefly
Friday, 06 January 2006 21:09:49

I watched Serenity 4 times I need more Firefly

I know this is already a thread....
Friday, 06 January 2006 21:25:23

But I'm a very impatient person. Does anybody know how to contact Joss, Nathan, Jewel, Adam, Sean, Summer, Gina, Alan, Ron, Morena, Mark Sheppard....? I wanna send something to them and can't really do that if I don't know where to send it. I know, I could google it and probably find it, but... Yeah, so..thanks. Oh, yeah, and: SCI-FI RULES!!! Not only is there an awesome marathon goin on right now, but it's an all-new sci-fi Friday, with new SG-1, Atlantis, and BSG!!! But why isn't Sci-fi picking up the show to bring it back an' all? Just a question... Cheers, y'all, ~ForeverShiny

What Idiots!
Saturday, 07 January 2006 02:21:27

My stupid brother and my stupid friend tease me to no end over my *ahem* obsession. Every time they walk up to use the computer and find me on it--usually lurking about this website--they make fun of me. "I've never known anyone to be so obsessed about a television show", "what the hell do all of those people talk about?", "blah, blah, blah, blah, blah," and on and on. All I can say is, who wakes up in the morning and logs onto their car websites? Eh? EH?!!! I have to wait until 3:00 pm before I can even sit down in front of this screen! Who sits on ebay and looks up car parts, electronics, xbox stuff, etc., etc.? Yeah, that's my quality brother! Not to bash ebay users or car fanatics, but REALLY! WHERE DO THEY GET OFF?! Stupid idiots. They just don't understand. It's different for them. It's okay to be WAY into cars. It's okay to spend all of your money on ebay. But it's not okay to love a television show and to love talking to other people who just happen to love said tv show. Duh! Okay, I'm done. Mattie

I love it
Saturday, 07 January 2006 04:43:48

Last night I rented Serenity and I would like to say that the movies was spectacular. To my amazement, this morning the SciFi had a firefly marathon, so I was able to see all the episodes. I am really disappointed that the show was canceled. I am all for helping bring the show back. I believe that it has a great story and those brown suits do not know a good show when they see one. Go figure, to the brown suits, idiodic shows such as reality shows and and rich narcissism are what they think we need like to see.

Why Wash?!
Saturday, 07 January 2006 09:56:25

Why did Joss have to kill off Wash?! It eats me up inside! Even IF the show were to be picked up again, or a second film be made, I'm torn as to whether I could sit through it without Wash there. I know it's just a story, but it really eats at me still.

Just one reason I love this place
Saturday, 07 January 2006 11:21:51

I wrote this yesterday in another forum, to explain to someone why I was gushing about a particular non-fiction author. When I wrote it, I realized I was also thinking about some of you... I appreciate this guy because he is one of the magnificent few: the ethical expert with a very long view, who holds a holographic model of his/her field on the palm of one hand and posesses the ability to explain the subject in a way that has both poetry and epiphany for any level of understanding.

Discovering Firefly
Saturday, 07 January 2006 13:14:29

As an already established Joss Wheadon fan, what with Buffy and the brillent Angel, I knew that i had to at some point check out firefly. Here in the UK I never really got the opportunity as it was only shown on SCI-FI channel and then cancelled. So when I heard about the movie i just knew I had to see it. The reviews before the film released here in the UK were great and critics were raving that it was a sleeper hit. What can I say, I totally loved the film. Great storyline, fantasic characters and of course joss's trademark humour. I had to have more. I have just now got my hands on the whole DVD series and already I have managed to watch most of it and I can't believe what those complete morons at FOX were thinking to even want to cancel such a great show. You can just tell it ws only just getting off the ground and givin time this could have been something fantastic. I just want to add that I am now a complete devout fan and I hope we see more of firefly and the crew in the future. Here's to Serenity. p.s I now have a huge crush on Nathan wowww!

Yes, as the blog title implies, I'm new to Fireflyfans.net. Joined yesterday, and I'm already loving it. It's nice to have so many fans in one place to converse and the like. I turned a browncoats fan when one of my family members called from his cell, declaring he was going to take me to this wonderful new movie (Note that he had just seen the thing, and was going to take me to it not an hour later. I agreed. I was blown away by the end of the movie. It was very interesting to me. Not two weeks later I owned the Firefly series on DVD, and not very long after that I had the Serenity DVD in my possession. I've made a board of my own dedicated to both Firefly and Serenity. Check it out here:

New Serenity Goodies
Saturday, 07 January 2006 18:55:50

Well I got home from work yesterday and to my pleasant surprise my sealed box of Serenity trading cards had been delivered. So I spent the next few hours opening up all of the packs and carefully seperating them into there proper order  Every sealed box of cards comes with 1 autographed card guaranted and that's the main reason why i made this purchase. But there are also another special card equally as cool as the autographed one's that can be found in random packs, costume cards. These cards have an actualy piece of a characters costume that they wore in the movie. I didnt have high expectations that I would find one, but to my pleasant surprise, even before finding my autograph card, I opened a pack and there it was. I almost wet myself  when I saw it, but to my pleasant surprise I got a piece of Inara's costume from the final fight scene against the reavers. A half an hour later I finally found my autograph card as well! I got one signed by River herself, Summer Glau, and needless to say both of these gems are going to be put in very hard protective cases and displayed in my room for a long long time. Now if only my posters would get here :disappointed:

Happy Birthday to Me!
Sunday, 08 January 2006 13:09:55

I am 18 today, yay! I went out in a limo with my friends tonight, went to my first club, and had my first incident in being groped by a strange guy, hurray  lol. And I topped it all off by coming home and watching Serenityat 2:30 in the morning with 2 of my friends, hurray! Now I think I'm going to got to bed, cuz yeah, it's like 5 in the morning and I have to do the whole "family b-day" thing in a few hours. Hope everyone else had as fun of a night as I did!

Been a long time since I have been on here or posted...
Sunday, 08 January 2006 16:49:51

Hey hey for those of you who even noticed I was gone. Been a long while. Well for the time being I am stuck in this hell hole we all know as Iraq. Not so bad, but I would rather be home. Missed the BDM in the theatres cuz we were mobilizing :(, but I got it on DVD the morning it hit the shelves at the PX, and have already started converting people with just the movie. Haha. wish I had brought the series with me though. A buddy of mine(who is a huge star wars geek) told me that Serenity was everything he has ever wanted out of a sci-fi movie. Aw well, maybe I will show my face around here more often when I got the time, and damn do I seem to have an endless amount of time. Much love from overseas...

Watched Serenity again and . . .
Sunday, 08 January 2006 18:43:06

. . noticed something that made me very happy. In the scene where Mal is sitting in his cabin watching the capture of Inara, what do I spy in the background? The toilet. Perfectly framed. Lovingly unlit. The toilet.

This is the first blog entry I have ever had. Wow.

Monday, 09 January 2006 03:05:24

So I have been on best rest the past several days (still am if you want to get technical). Was in a pretty bad car accident the other day. Head on collision. Pretty gruesome sight. Don't think I will ever be able to wash the image of looking up andseeing my friend's bloody and broken face. Then seeing the blood drip from my own onto the rest of my body. Talk about something powerful. We are both still living though so that's good right? Except for the fact that while my friend's wounds were superficial, mine run a little deeper. I recently had LASIK surgery (you know the one where they use lazers to correct your vision), and was not suposed to have an severe head trauma for four weeks. I had not quite reached the four week marker when the accident happened. My vision was amazing, the first time I have seen without glasses (and my eyes were bad too) since first grade. It was amazing. Until the other day when a quick blow to the head rederered my right eye almost useless. I can take the burns on my arms, the cuts on my face and hands, and the pains in my chest, back, and neck, but the eye hits me where it hurts. They also tell me that if I am not careful, I might not see out of it again. I am not allowed to move back to school until the doctor releases me. Just lay here and be helpless. I know I shouldn't even me online right now, but a person can only lay down so long. Plus, I missed you guys. I know I will make it through though. And I also know that people have it worse than me so I am trying not to complain. Just wanted to tell my short story to someone else so maybe they could look at it and see that maybe a problem they are going through might not be so trivial and it might help them to sit down and find a solution. So happy travels guys. Until I return... TheShepard

Four hundred and ninety seven times!
Monday, 09 January 2006 05:09:11

So Pretty Fits has been read 497 times and is rated at 9. WHoo Hoo! I'm seriously doing the happy dance...I look dorky and very white...but I'm doing it all the same. I'm working on chapter eight now and I swear I just keep getting more and more excited the more I write. I wonder if KRAD reads fanfic? Okay, that was me blowing my own horn...but it's just so purdy...sqeeee...off to write more!

I'm new to this
Monday, 09 January 2006 06:03:59

Ok people I'm new to all of this. One I'm new to Firefly I got the box set for christmas because I loved Serenity the movie so much. Two I'm knew to being excited about a show enought to join a fansite. Firefly to me is one of the greatest Scifi shows ever made. The cast is amazing and the writing in the show is more then amazing. I never really liked much scifi beyond star wars. I'm not down with star trek, farescape or shows like that. Firfly is different everything looks lived in and used and it doesn't deal with weird aliens. Plus I love westerns. Captain Mal is one of my favorite fictional characters and for me that says alot.

how i got here.
Monday, 09 January 2006 06:38:18

i went to the movies with my family several months ago. we were going to see "the greatest game ever played" with shia lebouef. we got to the theater, bought our tickets, entered and took our seats, but to our dismay discovered that they (the seats) were wet. when we asked theater staff why, they told us that theater had been "hosed down" earlier that day. why they were selling tickets to a wet theater i'll never know. we asked for our money back, but we really wanted to see a movie. we'd driven a ways out for it, and didn't really feel like just going home. we then remembered another movie my brother had recommended to us, called "Serenity." we had our tickets switched to that theater, and went in. it was awesome. something definately worth freaking out over... but i was kind of tired of everything at the time... jaded, is the word. so while i recognized that at any other time i would've gone crazy and fangirled like mad over it... i didn't. it sat on the back of my brain for months, then jeff, my brother, illegally downloaded the dvd. we watched it and i remembered how awesome it was, and though i wasn't quite ready to fangirl it yet... i was starting to head down that path. i already knew it came from a tv show (Firefly), but didn't care enough to go looking for it. i had already checked all the video rental stores in town, and was pretty much over it. THEN, i got a video iPod, a source of much greif of late, but nevermind. in attempt to make light of the iPod fiasco I uploaded the serenity dvd to the little bugger, and then got a brilliant idea. i knew i would be leaving on a trip two days later, and any entertainment i could bring along would be VERY useful, so i started downloading the tv-show. unfortunately, it didn't download in time for me to bring it with me, but after i got back (several hours after i got back) it FINALLY downloaded, and i started to watch. by then i'd gone on two airplane rides, and had watched the movie five or six times in a row. i was already smitten with it. if i liked the movie... (loved it after a fashion) ...there are no words for how i felt about the tv show. it was... IS wonderful. shortly after watching the entire series straight through without breaks except for sleep and food, i went to the store to buy myself a legal copy and support the cause. but i couldn't find it.... anywhere. i'm convinced that my hometown is bent against it. i came home with a copy of Serenity, but not the thing i really wanted, and immediately went online to buy it direct. now that i've done my part for the dvd sales, i figure the only way to continue the work is to convert as many of these surfer town yokels, and bring firefly to the heathens.

Conjure convention
Monday, 09 January 2006 11:38:38

For the first time in my ancient life, I've decided to go to a SciFi convention. What prompted me to this, was of course, the mention in the blurbs of Firefly and Serenity. So I'm going to Conjure in Brisbane on the Easter weekend. Anyone else going?

i got your 4 cents yesterday ...
Monday, 09 January 2006 12:21:51

CALLING ALL ADAM B. FANS
Monday, 09 January 2006 14:38:12

OK So firstly I'm hoping *all* Brown-coats have done their duty in voting for Serenity in the Empire poll for 2005. If you haven't go now, don't read the rest of this just *do it* Ok so whether you have or haven't I have a request of all of the fans of our favorite merc. Why should Nathan Fillion get best actor? I mean I love our captain tight-pants too, he does do great work. But at the same time I believe Adam Baldwin desrves a nomination (at least)! So I *urge* all the Jayne fans, to go and get voting for Adam as best actor. He deserves our devotions people!! Alright that's that out of the way now I want to write some other stuff. Firstly I've decided to scrap the series that I'm writing on here. It just isn't ringing right for me, but I'm working on a new thing it will just take a good long while. My move to Canada is taking longer than I wanted it to. It sucks because my beloved is there and I want to be there too. I'm missing him start his first day of college. :disappointed: Also just a question but how many Australian fans are members of ff.net?

Sad day for gypsylife
Tuesday, 10 January 2006 16:16:06

Just discovered that I have to move and will not have the internet for an indefinate period of time. Probably will be moving in about two weeks, so I will write what I can and post of Pretty Fits...but after I move the posts will be a lot longer time in between. On the plus side they will be a lot longer, length wise. How will I go on? What will become of me...lol I know, there are worse things in life. But I don't have to be happy about it!

Insomnia
Tuesday, 10 January 2006 18:11:17

Hey are any of the other browncoats Insoniacs? I've been having real trouble sleeping the past month or so, in part it's because I have a night job but the other thing is because I miss my baby so much. Canada's a long way from here and even if I'm chatting to him on the net it's not the same as having him here. I just get so lonely and the place is so damn empty without him. So I've developed my own brand of special insomnia- I won't sleep from around 1 in the morning till around 11 in the morning, I just can't. I think it's because my brain knows the time differences so well and I know the times I'm liable to catch him online- but gosh I miss him so much. He's my archangel.

mmmm
Tuesday, 10 January 2006 18:33:21

So just started on this site a few days ago, and I've already managed to connect with some people here. Which is nice, cause while I've managed to corrupt several of my friends into the firely verse, not a one of them are anywhere near as fanatic about it as me. So yay.

Just an update, for interested parties...
Tuesday, 10 January 2006 21:26:14

Oleander the whale is now officially happy, a little girl with bright red hair came in the other day and baught him. I was a little concerned about him since bessie got sold the week before, but aparently this little girl has a large collection of dolphins who i'm sure he will get on brilliantly with. And so ends the saga. *sniff*

So, I'm taking a class entitled "death and dying" dealing with public perceptions of death, and end of life issues. (I'm working on my master's degree in Social Work.) I got to give a short presentation with visuals on (spoiler text)
the two death scenes in Serenity.
and how they do or don't stack up to typical Hollywood perceptions of death. Also, anyone on ffn gonna be at Arisia this weekend?

HELP ME PLEASE!!!
Wednesday, 11 January 2006 05:43:58

I have to go to the Flanvention! Only thing that I want, besides a car. I might have to take out of my car savings for this, which is saying something because I really want a car. It's hard to pretend your flying while trying to ride a bike. Anyways, beings that this would be my first event of this type, I have some important questions that I really need answered: 1.) Is the general price for the whole 3 days $229 dollars, or is there other places that are cheaper? (I think the first, but I wanna make sure.) 2.) I read on the schedule "early check in." Does the price include a hotel stay? 'Cause that would be GREAT! 3.) Are the huge passes, called "BDP holders" (I think) all sold out? I read they are, :bash: wanna make double sure. 4.) I know there are extra events like the cast luncheon that are extra ($165, last year). So how much extra $$$ should I plan on takin'? 5.) Approximately how much time do I have before they sell out and I end up spending the whole year depressed!? I'm assuming they are going to sell out FAST, how fast? 6.) Is there a rule with cameras (the picture kind not recording ones): like "don't bring any." Ok, that is all of the questions that I can think to ask right now. Please give me all of the information possible!!! I don't wanna spend the rest of my senior year depressed and sad because no one understands.

fruity oaty bars
Wednesday, 11 January 2006 06:51:44

just made my version of them. fruity oaty bars 1 cup bisck (bisquit mix like bisquick) 1 cup oats 3/4 packed cup brown sugar 1 egg 3/4 cup milk 1 cup raisins (or other dried fruit or 1/2 cup wet fruit) 1 tbsp oil 1 tbsp cinnamon, allspice, apple pie spice or nutmeg 1/4 tsp salt 1 tsp vanilla preheat 375 degrees. grease a cookie pan (9 1/2 X 13 1/2 inches). mix ingredients well. pour and spead evenly into pan. bake 25 minutes. allow to cool in pan 5-10 minutes after pre-cutting into 15 bars. next time i may do it more like 1 1/2 cup oats and only 1/2 cup flour mix. they aren't rainbow, but i suppose if you used those rainbow coconut bars for the fruit they would be great...much better than raisins (that was all i had).

I just watched Serenity again. Man, do I love the characters from the Firefly series! They are so interesting, and the quips are classic Wheadon. I think what I like best about Firefly/Serenity is that the characters have depth. Joss Wheadon didn't focus too much of the story (or even much for that matter) on the sci-fi stuff or the gadgets or the tech. :blast: His is really a character study of a ragtag team trying to make a living in the future. My favorite character is really Mal (closely followed by River). My favorite scene of Mal's is in "Shindig" after he's beaten Atherton. God, I kept on laughing. Anyway, want to keep this short. Just shouting out that I love Firefly and Serenity.

Why cant I just shoot'em?

Hi! So, I just joined yesterday. I don't really know anything  about this community, except that it's (duh) for Firefly fans. And I'm one of those, so here I am. If anybody could offer helpful hints, I would really appreciate your telling me. Like, how do I put a link to my deviantart account here? Or how do I put a link to here on my deviantart account? And what exactly I'm supposed to post in the Blue Sun room? Thanks.

Ahhhhh! I'm moving!!!
Wednesday, 11 January 2006 18:52:07

My husband and I have just decided that we are for sure moving to Montana. Right now we live in South Carolina, so it's a pretty big move. My husband has never lived anywhere, but in the town we live in now and his whole family lives here, so this was a big decision for him to make. We finally told everyone we were going. There were a few upset in-laws, but all in all it went okay. My mom is also moving out there. She and my dad got divorced in September and she has to give him 90 days notice before she moves out of state. She's going to tell him the week before we move. I work for my dad so it's probably going to be a pretty tense week, but I'll have so many other things on my mind that hopefully I won't have to worry about it too much. Anywho, just wanted to share with everyone on here because ya'll are the coolest people ever and I wanted to see if there were any other Firefly fans in Montana? Thanks for listening, Hannah :)

Serenity poll results
Wednesday, 11 January 2006 23:56:35

someone may have posted somthing like this before... but on IMDb people voted on the top ten movies so here is how Serenity and related things did on the poll. And out of ALL the movies this year I LOVE HOW WELL IT DID> Best Picture-Serenity is #5 out of ten Best Actor- Nathan Fillion #7 Best Actress- Summer Glau #5 Best Supporting Actor- Adam Baldwin #8 Best Director- Joss Whedon #4 Funniest Movie- #8 Best Action Movie- #6 Most entertaining movie-#5 sure the majority did not make the top 5 but hey we had to compete against King Kong, Narnia, Harry Potter, Batman Begins, Star Wars and that stupid Brokeback mountain movie...so we did really good... EVERYBODY GO TO IMDB AND VOTE FOR SERENITY BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE!!!!! C'mon we have to get someone on the supporting actress list!!! I voted for Gina Torres but it wasnt enough..

help me with this, guys
Thursday, 12 January 2006 07:50:54

this is going to sound kinda stupid, but i don't care. i have this 1979 ford bronco that i adore. she's been with me for awhile now; a couple years. i haven't named her yet. she's gorgeous, though i'm sure beauty is in the eye of the beholder. i think she's beautiful, and she's yet to let me down, (well, too terribly much -- there was the time i was driving back from L.A. and the fuse for my headlights blew. i was only going 75 mph in the middle of the desert in the middle of the night, but whatever.) i just need a good name for her. she's off-white, she's gotta ding in her passenger's side door, she's a little dirty all of the time. but she needs a name. i figured someone here could come up with something good. thanks guys!

Neat effect...

I have discovered fun with my computer...up until now all my artwork has been straight from page to blue sun room, but I fiddled with the computer and thought it looked really cool... and yes I'm a dork, but I love the way the shading pops out. Here's the link to my photobucket page with them on it...

Thursday, 12 January 2006 14:06:38

All that Chili I aint last night.Everbody else here ate Chili too,so they cant say they didnt filter some gas through thier cotton. I just happen to expand mine a little further. Ok...anuff of that. Looks like its gonna be a fine day today.I just ordered the ship to come about and head for a little place I know of.We can put our feets on some solid stuff for awhile. Maybe even find us some work or some cargo. Problem is these folks aint to friendly when it comes to thier women folk,or any other women folk for that matter, seems they like to make them feel like third class people.Sumthin about women are property given to them by thier god. Silly and stupid thats what that is. I find if I treat a woman as my equal but let her know I wanna protect her to make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, she will usally let me do what comes natural.Lets just say she'll been over backwards,or any other way I want, to please me and enjoy doin it. Well gotta go see a man abouta horse. Cook said she wont gonna cook nomore Chili for a while. She was talkin about Gumbo or maybe some kinda chowder.Well what ever shes got planned dont matter ta me none. Hell... I gave her a raise last night she enjoyed that as much as I did.I dont mind passin her a raise every now and then she diserves it and she aint bad on the eyes either. Damn...just got word sumthins comin at us real fast. Dont know what it is yet.

Oh, warm welcome!
Thursday, 12 January 2006 15:51:37

It's soo nice to be welcomed! I've gotten soo many nice comments! The trouble is, I don't know how to reply to them. On deviantart there's a convenient 'reply' button on messages. I didn't find any such buttons here, and I want to say 'thanks' to everyone for their nice comments, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Help please?

Thursday, 12 January 2006 23:28:30

When it comes down to it, we ALL know that Serenity will never fly on the small screen again. I don't know why everybody's all jumped up about it. IT WON'T HAPPEN! Look forward to the movies, folks. BTW, I am hoping Firefly comes back just as much as the next fan, but realistically, it isn't going to happen.

Second Entry
Thursday, 12 January 2006 23:30:32

I forgot to mention, Joss himself said that he doesn't even know if Firefly will ever return. However, a lot of high execs in Universal are crying, "TRILOGY! TRILOGY!" Just think, we've probably got two more movies to look forward to. Let's not get too hasty.

grrrr
Thursday, 12 January 2006 23:58:30

i hate being gulible. its so very useless. rant on said subject as follows so, the other day i'm looking around ebay and i see "signed firefly script" going for $20 w/ an hour left. so i figure of course it'll go way up at the last minute, but what the hell, might as well bid. i left, and then came back with just a minute left, and it was only up to 27, so i figure, ok, i'll bid again, i won't get it. so i did, and i DID get it. seemed a mite odd, and, looking back, utterly unrealistic, all those sig's goinf for $30, but of course i wasnt focusing on that cause i was friggin thrilled. later, of course, i bother to go over the description more carefully, and realise its a gorram photocopy! grr! i was somewhat less then amused. it was very cleverly done; it said somthing like "copy of signed firefly script" so of course it could be taken either way, and i of course took it the wrong way. dunno if it was done like that intentionally to decieve or not, but it certainly worked on me. (as previously mentioned, im not exactly the quickest). i did get out of buying it, but even so, i was pissed. all the more so because i didn't realize my mistake until AFTER i started rubbing it in the faces of my browncoat friends. ahh well.

Going smooth?
Friday, 13 January 2006 03:18:07

One more day, and then finals for me are over, thank God! I'll have a four day weekend, and when I'm not celebrating the death of a strange semester I'll be working on part 7 of Have Wings, Will Fly. I'm excited to put in a little drama/suspense just to toy with our heroes a bit. It might take awhile, I want to put a lot into it, so we'll see. More waiting. As for my clay crewmembers I'm happy to announce that I'm almost done! It's taken me forever, and I've had some tie-ups due to school and tests. I haven't started Inara yet, but I'm very proud of my new Zoe and Simon, though Mal and Jayne still need hairdo's. Hopefully will post this weekend (when I figure out my stupid digi-cam.) For now, though, half of the crew is watching over my computer desk. They look so cute! Well, folks, here's to a shiny start to the new year, and best of luck on Friday the 13th tomorrow! Of all days to have a Calculus final...

Badger, a Browncoat?
Friday, 13 January 2006 10:59:19

I was watching Shindig (yet again) and something occurred to me. One thing is that I actually own the same sword that Mal used in the episode I guess I shop at the same places as the prop department..lol..but I digress. I noticed that whem Badger arrived on Serenity to hold the crew there during the duel, he was eating his apple whith a knife the same way the Mal and Zoe do. It got me thinking, Badger seemed to know alot about Mal's time as a Browncoat in the pilot. It would be very interesting to find out that he was (the fact that the character was meant to be played by Joss hints at a more active part). What do you all think?

Fish...Why did I agree to fish...Musta been the Tequilla talkin
Friday, 13 January 2006 12:35:35

The crew was really wise crackin about the cargo callin it things like "Fancy sushi" "Naturaly prepared sushi" "Swimmin Chrismas trees" They got real quite when I told'em what this run was payin. Yep, 17000 ORNAMENTAL FISH,you know fish pets you look at and not eat. ...hmm... Took us a while to build the tank, pump the water in,get it to room temp. Least the crew will have sumthin ta do,keepin them fed, makinsure the water is right an so on. The cook said she picked up sumthin real speical for supper tonite in town. Yeah you guessed it Fish... I been eye'in her alot lately...Shes been lookin right back too...she sure is good in the kitchen, and she likes it when I wave my GUN around...she calls its her hydrolic artillery...HERS?...so good for my ego. The fast radar blip was just a patrol boat fulla blue bellys...hhaaa...I think the Captian had cotton candy in his panties. He kept watchin me real odd like.Well I givem the normal BS they swallowed it.They took a few of the fancy fish...I'll have ta pay for...damn louzy blue bellys... I also got somekinda ancient sound device didnt cost much. Its got SONY onit and some how these disc things go into it an it plays music...one of them has "Fleetwood Mac" and another has "Areosmith" on it theres a hand full more...Igotta get with my engineer see if we can get this thing ta work. Gonna be 12 days before we hit somethin solid again...Everything is just shiney...

01-13-06
Friday, 13 January 2006 18:28:08

Well, today is the last day of my first week back to school--Yay for school! I think I'm gonna love this semester. Since I'm basically done with generals I decided to take a break from all of those classes I don't do so well in, and take classes that are more my forte. I'm so glad that I did, too. Here I am lovin' life. I was so excited about my classes that I couldn't wait for school to start again--though I kept that on the DL because lots of people don't feel the same way. And the best part is that I had good reason to be excited! Can I just say it again: YAY for school! The one drawback to this whole thing is that I haven't had time to blog on FFF.net as much as I did over the break. It's not that sad, though, because, well, obviously I'm here writing this. Anyway, I just wanted to share my enthusiasm. (I know I'm a nerd, and I wear that title proudly.) Well, time to go. I've got some reading to chatch up on before I go to my SECOND ENGLISH CLASS OF THE DAY!!! Really, I mean it, YAY FOR SCHOOL--and yay for majors that include reading lots of novels and looking at lots of pretty pictures (Art History). --Mattie

Wish I could fly in Serenity
Friday, 13 January 2006 18:46:48

Don't you just wish it was the future and Joss did a correct prediction of what it would be like and there were really ships like Serenity? I wish I could fly and have adventures, visit other worlds and just live life how I want to with out many people able to tell me what to do. Wouldn't that just be cool? I Love It! Anyway...though I'd say that cuz nothing else seems to be on my mind...duh.

Virtual Firefly 01x18 is out...
Friday, 13 January 2006 19:37:25

Hi guys, I jumped the gun on our latest episode. It took more time than I thought. It came out last night and should be available on www.stillflying.net soon enough. Here is a message from our editor: Hey, folks. Here is our third episode, "Property Rights." I apologize for the delay, but this is a pretty intricate episode, and we collectively made the decision that it would be better to delay in order to get the pacing right and tone right. If you haven't found it already, check out our web site, at stillflying.net. It's pretty basic right now, but you can find our previous episodes there. Please be aware that we'll be working on the web site next week so there will be no new episode. We will return with episode 1x19 ("The Perfect Sunset") in two weeks, so don't forget about us! I hope that y'all enjoy "Property Rights." Until we get stillflying.net, feel free to offer feedback by e-mailing back or by posting in the Blue Sun Room on fireflyfans.net. Fanfic Fix (Say that 5x fast)
Friday, 13 January 2006 20:25:22

This is a cry for any Mal/River or Mal/Kaylee fics. I know there are shippers out there that are going to want to murder me for asking for this, but I've never been one to go for the normal ships. So, if anyone knows of any good fics with these unusal ships I would really like to hear about them. Thanks for listening, Hannah

Notes on the new technique
Saturday, 14 January 2006 03:58:39

I've been trying a new high tech style for the last few drawings as opposed to a more fluid inking style.. You all seem to like it well enough, so a little about it: It's essentially my wash style but I add a few more steps at the computer... mainly a few home made half tone screens applied then merged down..sometimes it comes out ok and others the pattern it makes with the inked line has a super-jarring effect. Annoying biographical pause (for those interested) I was born in Saint Louis, Mo. in 1958.. Discovered comics at an early age thanks to the Adam West Batman series... Moved west in 1974 and here I remain...Ive always been good at drawing and even sent off some portfolio's to marvel and dc in the early eighties..And was summarily turned down flat..I still have the rejection letters around some where..Life continued and I lost interest in art for almost 20 years..Then fate steps in and I injured my knee on the job in 2004 (complete tear of the ACL and a partial tear of the PCL) which laid me up for nine months. With nothing better to do I got back into art...and here I am. Oh, and I discovered Firefly and you guys . Thank for letting me ramble... now back to your regularly scheduled fanfic

How I do it
Saturday, 14 January 2006 07:32:57

I was asked by someone how I did my fan art, and basically all I do is find a screencap that I really like and pull it up on my computer and then sit down and draw. I use a variety of charcoal pencils and block charcoal for the heavy areas on newsprint paper. Either 12x18 or 8.5x11. And then I usually erase and erase and erase and redraw until I'm happy...which is actually a misnomer cause I'm never completely happy with a picture, but I get pretty close.

Stupid Friday the 13th
Saturday, 14 January 2006 09:40:29

I got a $30 dollar parking tikcet while I was parked outside a friend's dorm tonight. The gorram lot was empty except for my car, on a Friday night no less, and I get a parking ticket because I didn't have the right kind of parking permit. Is that the biggest load of b.s. you've ever heard? It's like they just didn't have anything better to do. I mean seriously, it's a Friday night in a college town, and my car was the only one they could pick on!? And then when my friends and I got to the bowling alley, I preceded to bowl 14 gutterballs in two games, lol. Pathetic, right? But anyway I'd like to ask you guys'opinion: Should I pay the $30 or contest the ticket? The appeal process is kind of a bitch (I suspect to discourage people from fighting the citations), but I honestly think the person who issued the ticket was just being mean...so what are you're thoughts?

I guess that old Earth superstiton about Friday the 13th is
Saturday, 14 January 2006 11:53:20

BS... I had a great day yesterday...a few of you may have been there to witness. Although I suffered an extreme hangover from to much party mixed with Tequilla...My eyes felt like they was rollin in sandpaper...My mouth felt like a Portoilet at Bike Week...I had a good 13th. The crew and I Transfered the fish to the new boat and she's flyin smooth. AS Yall know I been watchin the cook with a eye that only a man can understand about...And I notice she been spendin a little more time doin speical stuff for me...Now ole Captian here's been round the verse more than movies put out by Disney...so I understand whats goin on here...I got feelins for her that cant be denied...an sometimes they show more than others, but I aint talkin bout just the matin' ...Im sayin there's feelin's here more important than sex.Somethin in my heart cant let this one get away. So last night I seen her gettin outta the shower and I leave from the people in the chat room and I get real close ta her an I smell her all clean and fresh and feel the heat from the shower commin off her...yeah aint nothin like a clean woman just waitin for me ta get all nasty with...well enuff of that lemme get back to what I was tellin ya...So I tell her whats goin on in my heart, now it didnt come out all perfect an flowery like them fancy dudes in the movies ,I just gave her he best words I knew how ta give and she put them in the order they was needin ta be in... And then came her smile the kinda smile that pushes all the dark from a mans soul and fills him with a warm fuzzyness like....like ...like kittens... in a basket fulla cotton towels thats just been pulled out the dryer. I think the rest of the crew is gettin worried about the Captian...aaahhh whata they know...they just dont see whats realy happenin. The cooks up now she cant find her panties any where, I thought I threw them on the desk last night...Idunno why shes gotta puttem back on I'll just gett'er out of'em again later... ya know I hired her on bout a year and some months back...I call her the cook...but that aint her real name...I gotta look through my records again ta find out what it is.

BSG
Saturday, 14 January 2006 14:25:22

I've been getting my Battlestar Galactica fix since the new year started. Hehe .. I must admit that I was never really a fan of the original series. I recently watched the mini-series, though, and I just got hooked. I mean, I watched season 1 in just a weekend. Now, I so need to know what's going to happen to this other ragtag crew in space. Although BSG can be addicting, I still like the characters and story of Firefly more. I don't know. Maybe it's because it's a Whedon creation. Maybe it's because Firefly is not really sci-fi in a Star Trek kind of way. (By the way, I do like Voyager). As I've said before, it's more of a character study. Anyway, BSG is now back from its midseason break, so maybe I should start catching up on season 2.

Hi Guys! This is my first Blog entry.... Here goes.. I've been thinking about the music in Serenity... Have you heard of a BRILLIANT British artist - Lucie Silvas? I saw her live about three of months ago....... around the time Firefly was out in cinemas....... and her version of the song, Nothing Else Matters, reminds me of the music in Serenity (BDM). Check out the lyrics ..... So close, no matter how far Couldn't be much more from the heart Forever trusting who we are And nothing else matters Never opened myself this way Life is ours, we live it our way All these words I don't just say And nothing else matters Trust I seek and I find in you Every day for us something new Open mind for a different view And nothing else matters Never cared for what they do Never cared for what they know And I know Never cared for what they say Never cared for games they play Never cared for what they do Never cared for what they know And I know You can find the mp3 download on the net!!! I was thinking it could be made into a fanvid about Zoe and her relationship with Wash and with Mal. They're all that matters to her...... If any one wants to take up this idea, just send me a message..... I may be able to send you an mp3 file of this song.....

Can't stop the River video
Saturday, 14 January 2006 18:41:31

I'm just overwhelmed by the response to my new River vid so far. But I'm afraid the host's servers might be as well. So just to be sure... I posted this link to it yesterday:

Firefly Marathon
Saturday, 14 January 2006 20:21:54

Thanks to a Firefly Marathon my DVR has recorded a bunch of episodes. I watched the next 3. The highlights were Mal dressed as woman, Mal getting married, Mal's wife steering Serenity into a trap, Simon and River getting stuck on a crazy planet, and I could go on forever. Firefly rocks like a mofo. I can't wait to see the rest.

BG made it to Germany - Firefly? No chance.
Saturday, 14 January 2006 23:46:54

I just read that the German tv channel "RTL II" is going to air BG starting February 1st. It's the very same channel that licenced Firefly years ago but never showed it and most likely never will (more precisely it's the so called "RTL groupe" which includes that channel). Does that seem right to you? :crap: I understand they don't want to air a half finished show that suddenly ends but it feels just wrong. They already paid for it! Morons... Christian On a sidenote: Who is ZOIC?

Jaynestown
Sunday, 15 January 2006 00:24:01

I just watched the Jaynestown episode. Jayne makes a good small town hero. And he kicks ass too.

Me? Start a Blog? How about my adventures in the library
Sunday, 15 January 2006 02:45:19

Argh There is nothing more annoying than a book missing several pages in it. Picked up one that I had always wanted to read, Heretics of Dune, and BAH there were chunks of the book missing! Well...not huge chunks, a chapter here, a few ending pages there. :banghead: I read it through and would have to flip and be generally pissy 'cause i had no clue what had happened...Not that that is unusual. Seems like an evil plan the library has formed with Chapters to force me to actually purchase a book from Chapters...eviilll .. Ha! I'll show them! Somehow...a plan is forming....

Serenity, Passenger style
Sunday, 15 January 2006 04:58:48

I have no time. I'm writing four fics and an original novel. In a month, I'm taking the novel to conference to be looked at by professionals. And what do I want to do? Rewrite Serenity with Camille, Prophet, and a fixed-up River in it. It'd take place a few months after Part 2. I love rewriting things. I've done it with Smallville the past 5 years, why not this? *headdesk* I wish I could turn off my brain sometimes.

Firefly comic strip
Sunday, 15 January 2006 04:59:29

Well, I almost have the first week written and penciled all that's left is to ink and letter it.. (kinda daunting when you consider that's about 21 firefly drawings) but it's on it's way, I promise...

Dopplegangars and mad old women confirmed...
Sunday, 15 January 2006 13:45:11

My Dopplegangar has been spotted again, this time, in a nightclub, by my own brother! Wierd, not that I have one, but I always thought they were meant to remain shadowy and mysterious. I seem to know an awful lot about her though, Her name is Julia, or Erica, can't remember too well, she used to work in an Italian resturant somewhere New brighton, about 20 min train ride away from me. And now apparently she has hair exactly the same shade as mine (its dyed a kind of Yo-Saff-Bridge red) and goes to the same clubs I used to go to. An old woman on my journey to work used to quiz me regularly about my job in the resturant, my boyfriend (perhaps he was Eric..?) and my pet dog. Which would be fine if I wasn't working in a museum, single and a cat owner, I just used to put it down to her age (one of those people who was so old they've started shrinking) or bad eyesight, but too many of my friends have seen someone they thought was me in town or other places and now my brother and his girlfriend both saw her in a club. Tis spooky, and highly entertaining.

By all salvage rights I claim her
Sunday, 15 January 2006 13:48:57

Shes gonna fetch me a pretty penny. I dont know how long she's been drifting out here...by the looks its been awhile. All kinda dust and debris hangin to her...you know a ship stays put to long out here they attract every thing that passes by...well every thing that aint travelin faster than can be caught by gravity...and as I said this ships been out here awhile...lookin her over real good...dont wanna spring no traps. All seems well...gonna take the GIG over an look inside. Shes a pleasure craft, when we got closer I could see her true character...deffinitly personnaly owned ...no holes ,no damage, no burns...now thats odd the main hatch was wide open, like someone just walked out an forgot to close it. Me and Evans checked out the boat and it all...he said he could possible get the engines back on line...I aint really worried about pervious owners log aint my fault he was stupid...but I got a sneakin suspiscion that the Owner ,if still alive, will paymore to have this ship back than Id get sellin her off for salvage... Man my back...my legs...my arms too...are killin me...Me and the Cook agreed to cool off things for awhile...at least in the "He'in and She'in" department. Lets just say we think we are doin more damage than good...I get more of a work out with her than I did at bootcamp...but hey, aint love grand. Her bein alot younger than me I figured she wouldnt be as torn up and sore, but she is...Just goes ta show ya as long as theres steam in the boiler Hoses get stiff and things POP, Yeah, BAABY! Damn...just got done lookin at some of that derelicts log...that is one sick basterd who owens...,oops lemme rephrase that, That was a sick bastard that OWENED that ship. Nears as I can tell he was usein it to make illegal{ILL here is the focus}Vids and sellin them to other sick SOBs ... he used little boys and girls, women and men,animals...I think Reaver's got more hummanity than this Whacko and the basterds that bought his product...wouldnt be no need for this if noone paid for it...Well I gotta go chill out before I can look at the rest of the logs...sick just evil sick...Of course he'd use some kinda "right to expression" defense...If what Im thinkin happened to him it wasnt horrible enough...If hes dead ,Im thinkin he is,the speical place in hell has been reserved for him... I cant let the Cook see these logs I dont want her upset...these Images could dry out ones soul if it werent strong enough...and I need to protect her from this. The fish are fine...New ship is fine...Wish I was fine...the crew have been real quite...Im not sure we all have come to grips yet, with what went on aboard that ... that... that Compartment of Hell intow !behind! !MY SHIP!!...

Out Of Gas & Ariel
Sunday, 15 January 2006 21:17:17

These two Episodes were great. I loved the part when Mal put Jayne in his place. Becoming paramedics to steal drugs and get brain scans for River was a great plan, thanks to Simon. I am so glad that the crew came back in Out Of Gas. Thank god Mal lived. I can't wait to watch the remaining episodes.

HOME!!!
Sunday, 15 January 2006 23:01:45

Got home finally and safely. The wife and the kids met us at the return cerimony and then we had to do return processing, but have had this weekend with them. Back to work Tuesday. I'm continueing to work on my fiction and will post the next installment tuesday night. The remaining works will be longer that the first few. Also waiting for me was the DVD firefly series and so far I have been able to watch the first two episodes. The first one was a tad rough acting wise IMHO but it smoothed out as it went along. The second one opened very well. that's all for now except it's great to be home. dutch

Preordering
Monday, 16 January 2006 00:23:40

I'm not really a preorder-kinda-gal. I can now say there are exactly 2 things I have ever preordered: The Firefly DVD set (ya know, the original, from TV) & The Serenity model (See the news on this site for details. Yay!!) I can't wait! The only bad thing is going to be trying to decide where it will go!

Firefly Withdrawl
Monday, 16 January 2006 03:57:24

I've watched all the episodes and the movie countless times and I really really need more. I sit there during class thinking up new ways to get Firefly back. Most of which are totally insane and would probably never work. I'm totally obsessed. I relate everything (and I mean everything ) to Firefly/Serenity. I HATE YOU FOX :finger:!!! YOU'VE CANCELED MY TWO FAVORITE SHOWS EVER!!! (Firefly and The Inside). I think we should all boycott the FOX tv station until they bring Firefly back. hehehe. I will do everything I can to help bring Firefly back.

Merrily New Term.....
Monday, 16 January 2006 04:43:28

All is well in my 'verse...After a boring, boring vacation (only made better by my excessive movie purchases- 80's horror is so amusing.....), I have returned to school back to my incredibly popular, beautiful and intelligent circle of blonde friends! .....the blonde part gave it away huh? No, actually, I got to mock the kids who finally saw Serenity over the break and were talking up about how they're its biggest fan and they know everything.....but they didn't know that Serenity was a TV show, or that Firefly is the type of ship, or that Shepherd Book is not Zoe's father (you laugh....but it's true. Disturbing, innit?) I must now retire to my lair of posters, to put up the Serenity poster I stole from the grocery store....... SHKG p.s. Does Anyone know how to create movie stills? If so, please reply with the information and I will be in your debt!

Vid Idea...
Monday, 16 January 2006 08:56:07

Because I hate myself and I need the extra work... So, I've had a new idea for a fanvid and it's going to take a LOT of extra work and planning, because it's a little more detailed that the usual vid. And... eesh. I should just quit while I'm ahead, but no... I have to make it hard on me. I finished the first part of it this afternoon. Which will, actually, turn out to be the last part once the whole vid is compiled, but it was the easiest and the one most sticking in my head. It's a character study (ish) of all the Firefly/Serenity characters. I'm going to do everyone, Mal, Zoe, Wash, Kaylee, Book, Simon, Jayne, River, Inara, Serenity. The one I did today was: Reavers. Fun, fun, fun. *head desk* Why do I listen to my head when it tells me this stuff?

Critiquing an artform ('Failed' part 2)

We dont need the money that bad...
Monday, 16 January 2006 10:58:17

It woulda fetched 15 maybe 25 thousand credits.I dont care if the owner was alive...I never reported this find to anyone so ...They wont know what I did... I had Booger fly close enough to the star so it would drag the derelict in...I cut it loose...I think to much money was made with that...Let it carry its ghosts home. I think things will get back to normal now. As if they ever was around here. I was thinkin bout askin the Cook ta marry me but Im gonna wait til this ...cloud passes. I swear that woman looks INTENSE wearin nothin but one'a my T shirts and a Tan...she goes walkin around looks like puppies fightin under a blanket...have mercy child......

My stuff
Monday, 16 January 2006 13:07:15

A lot of fans have commented on how prolific I seem to be. All I can say is it's something that was drummed into me when I took advertising illustration and life drawing in my failed collage days.. The instructor would give us, like, five minutes to complete a drawing, and then critique us on how finished the drawings were. Conveying the whole picture in as little time as possible was what he was striving to teach us. And trying to get it done fast was about the only trick I picked up from the ad class..that and how different an illustration looks when it reduced for print. i.e. the blacks become blacker and the whites whiter. Thanks to all for the interest in me and my drawings.

First Day In New Job
Monday, 16 January 2006 21:54:55

I survived. It wasn't totally overwhelming. I sat around alot, reading stuff on their intranet mostly. They have half-day induction courses for me on Friday and for four days next week. And another early next month. I'm sure it'll get harder as time goes on, though. They said it'd be at least a month till I got up to speed. Oh, and there's no internet access. I'm gutted.

Vera
Monday, 16 January 2006 23:05:44

I read somewhere that Vera means Faith in Russian, so I though I'd investigate and see if that's true.. So I checked out www.behindthename.com..... Vera means faith or truth In Russian and summer in albanian! Ooohh! Do you remember Faith in Buffy???? And, of course, Summer Glau plays River!!!! Weird Whedon-verse coincidences........ *spooky* So Jayne, the big bad mercenary's weapon of choice is faith and truth!!! (Well, we've seen him pray, and he's befriended a Shepherd, and he mentions God......) And he's employed by Mal, who has forsaken his faith and won't allow God in his boat!!! Ironic!! I just love seeing these weird links between things. Jayne fighting with Faith and Truth!!!!! LOL It's Hi-larious as the big guy himself would say....... Anyone else noticed any strange conincidences in the Whedon-verse ??!!!!

War Stories and Trash
Tuesday, 17 January 2006 00:53:37

OMG, just when I think this show can't get any better, it gets better!! The highlights of these episodes is Mal and Wash fighting while being tortured, Mal naked, Inara's gay scene, and Simon paralyzing Jayne. If it keeps getting better, I will be a browncoat for life!!!

Must See More
Tuesday, 17 January 2006 03:10:37

Okay, this is troubling me. I must see what happens to Mal and Inara, to Zoe after Wash's death, and to River and the Alliance people. I cant take it anymore. How much money do you think they will need to make another season? I will donate all I can just need to get in contact with the right people and such. Firefly should work out, and play on Sci-Fi instead of Fox. Welp, That was a short one just needed to express my rage. Peace! KC

Parental Advisory
Tuesday, 17 January 2006 11:27:22

So I got my lovely region 1 version of the Serenity DVD on Saturday, which I can only watch on my apple and the resolution isn’t great, but its better than nothing until the UK version comes out … Anyhoo, I finally convinced my father to watch it last night (he has steadfastly refused to watch Firefly)… It was odd – I was on the edge of my seat watching for his reaction – no laughs, not even a grunt … thought he might not like it, but then, he went to get a drink and asked me to pause it – surely indicating he was interested …. He’s a tough cookie – first laugh didn’t come until the “Hell, I mean to live” Kaylee comment – but it was a guffaw …. When Mal did his beautiful “love keeps her in the air” speech he muttered “what is this crap?”, but then – oh the laughter at the last line!! To sum up, I think he liked it … And my mother? Well, she was in and out, being known not to like “sci-fi” and coming in with lines like “what’s happened to the little girl? (River was tied up at that point) Is she dead?” My answer of “no, she’s a subliminally triggered mentally ill weapon” just seemed to confuse her… But she had an interesting take on Wash’s death (which I didn’t see as I was hiding in the kitchen). “But he’s the poet! The sensitive one. He’s the Wilfred Owen. He has to die!” she said. I see her point. It makes the death all the more poignant and sorrowful (cathartic even) because he isn’t bellicose or gung-ho, he’s just Wash …

Hey, look! I'm not dead!
Tuesday, 17 January 2006 18:29:23

Wow, way to come back from the dead. I have had no time to do anything latly. I havn't even gone in to my fav comic shop to pick up me missing Serenity comics! I do have all three, but I wanted one of every cover, so I had the missing ones ordered in for me last month. Not that many people actually read this... But whatever! At least I'm here now. And I have a bone to pick with life. Has anyone been watching Stargate SG-1 latly? The franchise is slowly EATING EVERY OTHER TV SHOW! I was watching an episode on my season 7 DVD's and saw Adam Baldwin as an SF. At first I was all 'YAH JAYNE!' Then I realised exactly how many actors from diffrent Si-Fi shows now work on Stargate, or were extras at some point or another! Should I begin listing them? I think so, as this is my blog and you all can just sodd off if you don't like it! Actually I won't simply because I don't remember many of the actors names, only there caracters! :banghead: But I will find them, oh yes, I will find them! If I feel like it! LOL

Heeeeeee's Baaaaaaack!!!
Tuesday, 17 January 2006 21:51:26

First, let me destroy classic literature with the phrase "the rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated". I know, you all are so happy to see me return. I expect that there will be tears, and parties in my name, and plenty of kisses!! But seriously: It's good to be home.

The Message

This was a good episode. I liked the chase scene and the scene with Simon and Kaylee at the beginning. I only have two episodes left to watch and then I am an official browncoat.

Armageddon/Last Night essay part 1
Wednesday, 18 January 2006 07:18:23

Hey all Tonight was the first step in the long and arduous process of writing a film essay. One of the classes that I am taking is one called "Canadian Cinema" in which we watch and analyze the films of my home country. Now I know what some of you are thinking. You're thinking that all Canadian flicks fit into the criteria that Mike Myers once described them as "I suffered, now it's your turn." But I'm here to tell you that it's kind of a yes and no things. Yes, our films are filled with oddball anti-heroes, have next to no budgets and has their share of angst and alienation. But then again, so do a lot of American indie flicks. But for my essay, I'm doing a comparison between American and Canadian cinema cultures by using two films that deal with the end of the world. And if you havn't figured it out by the title, those two flicks are ARMAGEDDON and LAST NIGHT. Tonight, I watched both films back to back, and I found a lot of amazing similarities. Both movies open with a voice over monologue, both have goofy looking horndog supporting characters, both are filled to the brim with familiar faces and big stars, both have similar scenes and stock characters as well (particularily someone whose purpose in the film is to run and deliver the countdown), both have a digital readout to the end of the world, both have a song that ties into the narrative, both have a level of homoeroticism to it (in ARMAGEDDON, it's there, but it's a slight undercurrent like other Bruckheimer flicks), and both end with a kiss. But the differences between the two are like night and day. I can go into detail about the differences, but I'll save it for the essay. But I will put it shortly. In ARMAGEDDON, the people on the planet cower away in useless bomb shelters in denial of their own inevitable deaths. In LAST NIGHT, Canadians treat the apocalypse like New Years Eve. We party. If that isn't a testament to the Canadan spirit, I don't know what is.

Picture this if you will....

My fellow Browncoats! I come before thee with a revelation (at least to me  ) that just tickles me to the core of my scarred TV veteran's heart (veteran = avid watcher who has suffered the indiginities of have to live off dreck and effluence cuz the tasty stuff's been taken away)! Imagine....2007....our beloved Lord Whedon has brought us a Wonder Woman for the new millennium. But who dares to take on the mantle of female empowerment under the benevolent gaze of Joss? Why, the answer maybe simpler than we imagine....our ever beloved Companion and source of UST for Capt. Tightpants! While browsing the Whedonverse site Dusk 'till Dawn, I came across a link declaring such a revelation: (

Something fun... a must do!
Wednesday, 18 January 2006 09:32:51

So, I just recently downloaded the Serenity theme (the song that plays in the movie, during the first reveal of Serenity) and I had my speakers turned up REALLY loud. At first I quickly turned them down, but then turned them WAY back up. Then I noticed a metallic rattling, at the part where that low rumble starts up. Trying to figure out where it was coming from, I looked down by my subwoofer. There was an empty coke can resting up against a hot air vent and was vibrating against the vent rather... violently. So that gave me an idea. I piled up about 7-8 cans, very haphazardly, and threw in anything else light and metal. I sliped some pennies into the cans and threw some keys into the pile and even a bunch of shell casings from a trip with my friends to a shooting range. Then I played the song again. I turned it up real loud, and there was this horrifying broken-down rattling. Like a beat up Chevy. Like Serenity. It was absolutely surreal. Try it, it's fun.

Strange goings on.

Been outta communcation for a day ... looks like its gonna be spotty at best gettin word out to anyone... Seems some wacko bunch of "Rights for Reavers" bombed a capital building on one the inner planets...We cant even find out which one cause most info comin outta there is being Heavely Censored...Now thats just all we need is half crazed people going around killin others on behave of Reavers...Next they'll have a tax put on food so they can keep Reavers in the lifestyle they are accustom to...what is goin on? I dont know when or if this "Rights for Reavers" crap will ever blow over...seems like this kinda stuff hands on for to long a time... Just purchased a few suprises for any unwanted guests that wanna give us problems...Now I gotta find places to put them so they dont show and look naturel form outside...I hope I aint never gotta use these but if I do it aint gonna be pretty... .

Well... it's official..
Wednesday, 18 January 2006 19:31:27

I think I can safely say now that my fanfic Boros Bound is dead in the water, an ex-fic so to speak. As a novice writer, I made the same mistake as those that have gone before me, I let the fanciful flight of my imagination lead me and in doing so, my story has lost both structure and direction. I am literally lost at sea. I tried using the Sereni-Tree as a testing ground for my ideas but they got tangled. I wanted my fic to be MY words and ideas, but the more I put into the thread, the more I couldn't separate them. This is no knock on the writers on the Sereni-Tree thread, quite the opposite. Their input was too good to leave out. In fact, their input made my ideas better, in most cases. So that’s my dilemma. Don't get me wrong, I don't plan on giving up writing, I'm just putting it on the back burner for a while. I'll continue to hone my skills on the threads and wait for inspiration, or the elusive vein of butterscotch, to reappear.

Just another day on the ship...

I have one of the world's most boring jobs, and this seems like a good way to kill time in between times I actually have to work. So what's doing out there in the 'verse?

I just sent FOX an angry email rant
Wednesday, 18 January 2006 22:16:54

I just sent that gorram FOX tv station an angry email rant. You should do the same. I also plan to boycott FOX tv. Is anybody with me? I think if we really bug the crap outta them, we might have a chance. I made sure to use a ton of big words to really piss them off so they'd have to look em up. teehee. Have a shiny day! Dear FOX, I am higly despondent by your decision to cancel Firefly and The Inside. Both were great shows with enormous potential and you threw them away like a used tissue. I know this email may sound like a desultory harangue, but it is more than that. Your action was so flagrant, so heinous, that I refuse to watch your TV station. I am sure that many other assiduous Firefly fans are doing the same. You hardly gave Firefly or The Inside a chance. Their seasons were so ephemeral that they never had a chance to shine. Your choice to cancel these shows was a cursory act in order to keep up your ratings and earn more money. Do you people even care about your viewers? About the actors and directors who's shows you canceled (you sure seem to hate Time Minear and Joss Whedon)? Now your station is left with nothing but banal excuses for entertainment. No, FOX TV is too bumptious to know when they've stumbled upon a good show. Firefly and The Inside fans will not condone this. The shows are not culpable for not earning high enough ratings, FOX TV is, for not fomenting the success of these shows. I saw hardly any advertisements for either of these shows, and the ones I saw weren't very well put together. They were not given the proper opportunity they needed. I will continue to defame, denounce, disparage, and boycott your TV station until you get rid of the hackneyed, antiquated, and homogenous garbage you call TV and put some good shows like Firefly and The Inside on it. Sincerely, Claire You can't stop the signal.

Sci Fi Inside: Serenity
Wednesday, 18 January 2006 22:25:29

Does anyone know where I can download the Sci Fi Inside: Serenity show that was shown on the Sci Fi channel?

Evil Plan!
Thursday, 19 January 2006 00:31:13

I have an evil plan to stick it to the man, FOX mainly. If everyone buys lotto tickets in their state and one of us happens to win...WE bring Firefly back ourselves, screw everyone else!! What do ya'll think?!?

I am sooo scared!!!
Thursday, 19 January 2006 02:24:31

I lent my first disk of Firefly to one of my less reliable friends...but she loved Buffy so she wanted to give Firefly a try and I wanted to expand the 'verse but now I am afried she won't give it back or that she will forget ... or maybe she will scratch or lose it!!!! I have had it for less then a month and I MISS IT...and this is only disk one (I didn't wanna risk them all!!) I just plain don't trust this girl...but I am to giving..sigh...and if she brings it back next week I will have to give her disk two..THATS MY FAVORITE!!!!...well it ties with 3 actually...

comic strip update
Thursday, 19 January 2006 02:25:01

I know you all are waiting, but I've run into a glitch, seems the paper I did the pencils on looked great until I tried to ink it..The damn stuff absorbed the ink like a spounge and I couldn't get my ink line to come out even remotly like I penciled it. . The only recourse is to repencil or use a light table.. Which is like staring into a white TV screen six inches away for several hours...The first daily came out ok looking but the remaining six are pretty much a wash..

My mobile side kick II and Me
Thursday, 19 January 2006 10:49:28

Some more good stuff about my art
Thursday, 19 January 2006 21:59:17

Since you all are asking here goes I do most of my work comic book size or smaller (10x15). For my inkwork I like 3ply strathmore bristol plate finish if I can get it. For the graphite and chalk ones I use a sepia colored paper with a kid finish (rough). I usally start with a screen cap or a publicity photo and layout with a 2h pencil. If I'm going for finished pencils I'll just continue on using anything up to 9b.Then using chalk or conte' white I'll add the highlites. If I'm going to ink the piece, I'll tighten up the 2h drawing with an hb pencil and kneeded eraser till I can tell what goes where. I prefer using speedball super black ink slightly diluted and various brush sizes from #1 up to about #5. The zip tones are a screen with a sticky back that's appliad with a exacto knife and a burnisher. These look good for about ten years, But eventually they'll turn yellow. It takes me about three hours start to finish for an inked piece and about two hours for the penciled ones..Thanks to all you guys for the interest in my stuff. It feels shiny to share somthing you enjoy doing with others who enjoy seeing it.. Forgot about the computer part.. I use an hp scanner and usally scan the art in two pieces and stitch together in with a paint program. Adding a border and my name (if I can remember) is all that remains. I've been on the lookout for a scanner big enough to handle 10x15 but them suckers are expensive...

Heart Of Gold
Friday, 20 January 2006 04:09:24

This is by far the best episode, I have seen so far. Now I understand why Inara is not on board Serenity in the movie. That whorehouse is the best lil whorehouse in the galaxy. Could the lines in the first ten minutes be any funnier? One episode left and I can't wait....I'm going right now. Really I'm going...

Objects In Space
Friday, 20 January 2006 05:33:42

Well, its official, I am a browncoat. I have finished Objects In Space. Great Episode with rather fitting ending. Except, now I have to see the movie again because wasn't River captured at the beginning?

My New Year's Resolution...(late as ever)
Friday, 20 January 2006 05:45:27

Forget what I had on my last Blog. I'm going to rewrite the first Chapter to Reavers Horizon! Plus, I have another reaver-based short story in the works that is quickly nearing completion. Here's hoping you will be entertained by my attempts at writing and that I don't give you a half-@$$ed story.

Firefly Class ship in Battlestar Galactica!
Friday, 20 January 2006 09:15:38

I don't know if anyone's noticed this and posted it, and if they have, I am forever shamed. HOWEVER, I picked up the Battlestar Galactica Miniseries the other day, and watched through it. Right at the very beginning, when Mary McDonnel's character learns she has cancer, there's a shot looking up through some windows, and I thought I saw it. "NAY!" I said. "Tricks! Vile, venomous eye-tricks!" Rewound. Paused. There she was. Rickety old Firefly class coming in for a landing. Might be a nod for taking the whole hand-held camera thing.

New to the browncoats
Friday, 20 January 2006 13:25:18

Hello all! I'm so glad to finally be writing to you. I am a new firefly fan, only having seen the serenity when it first appeared at the box office. I was instantly hooked, being a long-time Joss Wheadon fan, but I it failed to realize that there was a TV show. Imagine my elation after seeing the box set on sale at Target. So after a few sleepless nights of straight firefly, I can now officially say that I am a browncoat. I've been skating by this web site just to see what it was all about, have heard your posts, and realize now that you are my family, because we all still live on the tiny ship, in one way or another. Thank you for having me as your family. Sincerely, MalforPresident

Up and running
Friday, 20 January 2006 19:46:16

So there it is. The first chapter of 'New Prospects' is on the board, and the response so far has been pretty positive. I guess I chose to start it at that particular point in time because after watching Serenity, I immediately wondered - what next? And I'm sure I wasn't alone. We are, of course, our own worst critics. Reading back through it now, it feels a little static to me, a little formulaic, and I find myself wishing I'd spent more time ironing it, adding little details. I guess I'm akin to the proverbial artist, who touches up his canvas even as it hangs in the gallery. At least I can take on board these observation and hone the next chapter accordingly. There's nothing like experience to sharpen the blades of ability. Still flying, and that's enough.

The cutest thing...
Saturday, 21 January 2006 01:06:11

OK..so my roommate's son is ten years old. He came home from school yesterday and told me he had the theme song from Firefly stuck in his head all day. And true to his word, I heard him playing in his room, singing "Take my love, take my land..." It was so cute. And if that wasn't enough, we were watching the bdm tonight and as the cute and awkward little Mal and Inara 'sundries' moment was over, I heard him say to himself, "You sooo looked through her stuff." Tell me that's not astute for a ten year old. Course it could just be that I'm pleased to be a positive influence..lol. I just couldn't not share.

Firefly the game
Saturday, 21 January 2006 04:21:08

Oh, how I wish there was or will be a video game. I know others have thought the same, and assume still others must think it would be blasphemy. I specifically would like to see an MMORPG, or Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game for the uninitiated. Join a crew and fly with 'em. Pilot, Engineer, Doctor, or my personal favorite, Public Relations like Jayne. Do things your way, be they honorable or dis, or simply survive. Maybe even become a captain yourself someday, if so inclined. Run into THE crew once in a great while, hopefully on their good side. Done right, it'd be one hell of a ride, and another great way of continuing the 'verse and it's stories for years to come.

Oh Sean
Saturday, 21 January 2006 07:29:55

I finally watched The Dive From Clausien's Pier today. I Tivo-ed it about a month ago, and today I finally had the chance to watch it. All I have to say is, oh Sean. Sean Sean Sean Sean Sean. Did I mention Sean? And Sean! Okay I'm done, Nothing ends a week like two hours of Sean Maher. Except maybe 3 hours of Sean Maher...it may be time for yet another all night Firefly marathon

Morning People
Saturday, 21 January 2006 12:51:08

I should not have drunk so much last night. :vomit: My head hurts a lot :crap: ... still found time to log on here today... admittedly only to check if anyone's posted some more Inara/Mal fanfic. I have tried writting fanfic but I just can't compete. Oh well. Think I might go and see Underworld 2 tonight :blast:

Holdin true ta corse...I aint givin a inch...
Saturday, 21 January 2006 15:47:29

Some iddiot is headed straight for us it aint showin Allience colors so I aint gonna worry none...Funny the Iddiots ships smaller than mine but its still commin straight at us,Im gonna give it 30 more minutes then if it dont change corse I'll send a flashy greetin across its bow.If I get no response then...I'll send a flashy greetin into its hull. Evans got that old music device workin.A SONY CD Player made back in 1999...He had ta make some kinda coverter to get the power to work in it...I dont know to much about all that.Thats what he gets payed ta do.So I leave that stuff to him. I aint happy with this ship commin at us so fast...Im gonna let it know we are here.I figure two bolts across its bow shoud wake who evers on board up.Here goes...ALLRIGHT!!!!!TWO 40mm BOLTS FIRED!!!!!and the cannons held to the hull...I think Im gonna do that again just for fun heehee...AAAMMMAAANNN!!!!THAT GETS ME AS PUMPED UP AS AS...as well...ONLY IT CAN!!! It slowed just as I was about ta put a few Bolts inta it {damnit}...Okay... your attention has been gottin now whatcha gonna do? This realy startin ta ruin my calm...that boat is followin us now.Just back far enough it can dodge what I shoot at it.How do I know? Well I shot at it thats how! The Cooks mad at me cause I been taken potshots at it.She says I shouldnt do that cause it aint done nuthin to us...True I says but it aint answered no calls either...Shes givin me some grief about bein more nice bout stuff and I aint gotta shoot at everythin that flys past...and I guess shes sorta right...but if she would just sit in the Gunners seat an squeeze off a few rounds I think she'll grow ta like it...I mean come on she growed ta like me,so I figure I aint all that bad...Right? Everybodys dancin and singin to the music thats on these CD things...I Gotta admit I kinda like somma this music, spiecaly the ones called "Merle Haggard's Greatest Hits" and "Waylon and Willy's WWII" ... That Willy Nelson singer sure got it right with the song "If you could touch her at all" The Cook likes some of the other stuff to.She says that she likes what I like to...so there ya are see I aint so bad after all. That boat back there is really aggitatin me and the crew...But for peace's sake I'll hold off doin anything...but I just dont like someone lookin over my shoulder...I think I gonna start some target practicin inna few minutes.

Serenity Cutaway Drawings
Saturday, 21 January 2006 22:24:45

After seeing some of the deckplan work posted on this site, I decided to use them in trying to draw a cutaway view of the ship that would fit as closely as possible with the sets seen on the show and film. Posted a sketch today and asked for creative input. Let's see how it goes.

I just have one thing to say...I loved the Shindig episode because thats when Mal's hidden love really comes out for Inara to see it. They both show their passion for each other...its really cool! Welp Peace! KC

Jewel Staite Songs (edited, new link)
Sunday, 22 January 2006 07:08:36

As per requested, I uploaded the three songs Jewel Staite sang at the Marquee Grille... And, in case anyone else might have wanted them, here's the link: Edit: here's a new link, with an actual .zip file. Most computers are .zip compatible, so there shouldn't be a problem with this one...

Ok so I need some inspiration, and I have a ?
Sunday, 22 January 2006 13:42:59

First I had this idea based on a children's rhyme- you know the one "Mondays Child fair of face, Tuesday's child full of grace...." etc and so on. Well I had an idea to base the poem on Serenity's crew post BDM, it'd be a series on vignettes, or really short stories- does anyone have any thoughts on this? Has anyone seen it done, I don't want to be stealing anyone's ideas or work. Also I have a question there was a map on here of the FF verse and now I can't find it, could someone give me the link- that'd be awful handy. Hope everyone had/is having a shiny weekend. Thanks for everything, especially everyone's support over what has been an incredibly rough time the last few weeks.

The Cook said "stop shootin at the boat Bryan!"...
Sunday, 22 January 2006 14:00:12

hmmm...she didnt say Captian...Im startin to wonder somethin...I aint paranoid or nuthin but why didnt she say Captian... Theres and old sayin "familiarty breeds contempt"...could it be that the Cook is gettin to familiar with ol' CaptBryan?...I cant imagine that happenin after all this time and swappin body fluids and probin places only intimate folk probe...hmm Forget the strange little boat trailin us...this is more important...I cant have this kinda disrespect on my ship...but what to do? I cant send her out an airlock, the crew would hate me,they done went and got attatched to her and her good cookin...{Mental note here hire not so gooda cook next time} Look at her shes standin there all defiant, and a tear on her cheek, lil fists all clinched in rage at her sides, ... Damn shes beautiful ... The rest of the crew is standin there lookin at me , then lookin at her , then lookin at me ,then back to her, holdin thier breath like...like ...like they was watchin the ping pong champianship game of the Verse...What is wrong here? Some one tell me why's she so upset? I aint done nuthin wrong... Why am I feelin like the bad guy here? I better think fast the ball is in my court...

Fanfic up, at last!
Sunday, 22 January 2006 20:54:17

Ah, the feeling of creation. The fanfic I've just posted is a work regarding everyone's favorite slightly schizoid assassin, River Tam. It's the first in a series of short vignettes, one for each of the BDHs. Some will be pre-series, some after the BDM, and some in the middle. This one is actually a story that I've had floating around in my head for awhile. In fact, the "Neither here nor there" section was the first piece I got. However, I ran out of excuses to not put it down because a professor in one of my classes suggested I try my hand at short fiction to express an opinion on a specific conception of the mind. I thought, "A-ha! River!" Thus, the story came to print. Please read and rate, I need the feedback for my GPA!

Here is the song some of yall wanted to read enjoy

AAAAAAAAAAARGHARGHGARGHGABLARGH!!!!
Monday, 23 January 2006 04:41:39

I know, this has nothing to do with Firefly or Serenity, but I don't care. I'm ranting. So, I'm a gamer. Really heavy one at that. I've been using this same old computer for about 2 years now (AMD Athlon XP 2600+, ATi Radeon 9600 Pro, gig o' ram) and figured it was time for an upgrade after chugging through F.E.A.R. So, I manage to get a new motherboard (nf4 Ultra Infinity), processor (AMD 64 3500+) but didn't have enough for a video card. So I wait til next paycheck. HA! Had a fun one with that. Christmas and a powerful need to pay rent and, oh, I dunno, EAT prevented me from doing so, and I had to wait AGAIN. So today, I FINALLY manage to scrounge up enough cash for my new video card (BFG's nVidia 7800 GT OC) and guess what? MY POWER SUPPLY CAN'T HANDLE THE NEW PROCESSOR OR VIDEO CARD! MORE WAITING AROUND! MORE MONEY! GRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH! I almost cried when my newborn baby just kinda sputtered and gave me repeated CMOS errors. poooo

Best of 2005 - sans 1
Monday, 23 January 2006 16:32:20

Well folks, I've managed to get a whole third done of my Best of 2005 list. Every year, I write a Ten Best list of my own, but as of now, I've only got 9 on the list. There are a few that I havn't seen that I think might be on the list (GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK, CAPOTE, MATCH POINT) and some that I thought would be on the list but didn't do it for me and probably need a repeat viewing (CRASH, THE CONSTANT GARDENER, A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE, SYRIANA) and some flicks that had good individual components, but not overall quality. But just so that I have something out there, here in the order of when I saw then first, here are my fave films of 2005. THE UPSIDE OF ANGER- The first incredible film I saw this year is the best kind of movie. It's a hidden gem that you find unexpectedly, but end up treasuring a long time after you've found it. A scathingly funny and startlingly poignant family drama that end the film on a note of serene tragedy, it makes you take a look at the world around you in a new way. And has, excluding our BDH'S the best ensemble cast in any movie this year. SIN CITY- Not only the best comic book adaptation this year, but also a high energy jump start of the film noir. This is trashy filmmaking pushed into the realm of pop art. SERENITY- I'm preaching to the choir here. EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED- A road movie unlike any other. What starts out as a comedic romp through the Serbian countries turns into a touching tribute to the Holocaust. One to search for on DVD. WALK THE LINE- While it hits the same notes that other musical biopics have, this one does so with the same energy, vitality and truth that came with Johnny Cash and his music. And Reese Witherspoon as June Carter reminds us why we liked her in the first place. GRIZZLY MAN- I am so pissed that this flick is out of contention for the Best Documentary Feature Oscar. This doc about Timothy Treadwell, a man who for thirteen summers lived with the grizzly bears in the Alaskan wilderness is an amazing film about how the line between man and nature sits on top of the line between sanity and madness. MUNICH- In regards to the war on terror and the state of the world we live in, this flick more than any other is the most relevant in examining the wars we fight with each other and with ourselves. BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN- Admit it. When first hearing about this, you think back to SOUTH PARK and Cartman's comment on indie flicks being "black and white hippie movies about gay cowboys eating pudding". But upon seeing this flick, it becomes so much more than that. It's a straightforward love story that transcends cliches and becomes something relatable and haunting. THE NEW WORLD- Terrance Malick movies are as common as comet sightings. But when they do come around, they are cinematic wonders to behold. His take on the Jamestown settlers and their clash with the Natives dispenses with common narrative and becomes something completely different. A hypnotic, lush and involving slice of history that should be viewed on the biggest screen possible so that the images can wash over you. Other mentions: Funniest individual scene - The whale scene from HITCHIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY. Probably the most absurd thing ever put in a sci-fi film. The idea alone is funny as it is, but the voice over monologue had me laughing so hard, tears were streaming down my face. Best soundtrack - ELIZABETHTOWN. Cameron Crowe's films vary with quality, and admittedly this is a bit of a letdown after the superb ALMOST FAMOUS. But one thing you can count on is a top notch soundtrack that can be appreciated without the movie. Best "escapist" film - THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE. While most fantasy flicks transport you into another world, the kingdom of Narnia, unlike the world of Harry Potter, Skull Island and Middle Earth, is one world you'd actually want to go to. Perfectly captures the magic that the novel has and making it appealing to the children in all of us. If the other three flicks I me

Bow down before my mighty Browcoatednesss!
Monday, 23 January 2006 18:04:32

Is "Browncoatedness" even a real word? Most likly not. Or maybe it is, in Firefly speak~ like how 'companion' is now a verb according to Wash. Wow, that was so very, very pointless. So here's the real entry. I went down to Maxx Collectables, because the owner called me up saying my order was in. I eagerly awaited Thursday, as that is new comic day, and went in with two of my best friends to get our respective orders. First off, my fave Marvel stuff was in, so yay there. Then with a big grin  the guy woring there, can't remember his name for the life of me today, pulled out a VERY shiny surprize for me. A Mal action figure! All for me! He told me it had come in last week, and when he saw it, he put it aside for me, as he remembered how every week I came in faithfully to check for the "Serenity" comics. He even gave me a "Serenity" button that he had come accross somewhere! My bank balence has never ment so little to me! Right then and there, I bought everything, shelling out almost 45$ for a dozen comics, my shiney "Final Battle Mal" (compleat with screwdriver and the operatives' sword!), nifty little FREE button, and some starage bags and boards. My life has never had more meaning, that is, untill Friday. My mum and I were just scowering E-Bay for randome stuff we will never use, and came accross my new baby. An offical, certificat of authenticty included, used on film Firefly compueter console! Yes,my fellow Independants, I now own a piece of Serenity! I am truly, a die hard fan. I shall see to it that I am buried with this consle, and my headstone will say "Love lets her fly." Yes, I shall seeto it.

What a good day for fanfic
Monday, 23 January 2006 20:08:51

Yes people it is a very good day for fanfic. Kaynara posted her latest instalment of 'Bed and Wine', with some excellent Inara/Mal stuff and then later on I found the next chapter of 'The Fish Job'. It's also a good day for cancelled lectures! I only had to go to one today and even that finished early. Hope everyone else is having a good day! Now, if you'll excuse me I have an appointment with Disk 4 of my Firefly box set!:blast:

An Open Letter To The Scheduling Powers That Be
Monday, 23 January 2006 22:36:26

While this is not exactly Firefly/Serenity related, I feel I must address the scheduling mishaps that have happened in this fine TV season, so that other great shows (like Firefly) don't get cancelled for no reason. To the TV Scheduling "Gods:" Why, of why, must you make us choose? And why, oh why, must you do things that make no sense? That us examine the scheduling misfires since September and see if there might be a way to rectify the little problem of keeping quality TV on the air. 1. WB - Supernatural after Gilmore Girls. While I realize the thought process was to capitalize on a strong Jared Padalecki fan base, the viewers of GG are not going to watch Supernatural (unless you're a little squished in the brainpan, like me). This show would make so much more sense, and be able to capitalize off the rabid Jensen Ackles fan base, by following Smallville on Thursdays at 9pm. 2. WB - Everwood after Smallville #1 leads perfectly into #2. Coupling Everwood with Smallville is like putting kryptonite next to Superman - not the smartest move. Again, Everwood would do so much better following a show like GG or even putting it back on Mondays at 9pm after 7th Heaven. (Wouldn't it be great, if next season, Everwood could lead off the WB's new Monday now that 7th Heaven has bowed out? Couple Everwood with Related and you've got an unbelievable night of TV.) 3. ABC - Alias vs. just about everything Poor Sydney - not only does she lose the love of her life and get a new baby in the first episode, but ABC had the audacity to schedule Alias against Smallville. I'm sorry, but while Sydney (aka Jennifer) does kick butt, she cannot fill in for the beautiful Tom Welling. While I'll agree Smallville has been a little spotty so far this season, it still is awesome TV and not a surprise that it took viewers away from Alias. Especially with the departure of the equally yummy Michael Vartan. 4. Fox & UPN - Bones opposite Veronica Mars Okay, like Firefly, I arrived at the VM party late. I have just started paying attention to this show that obviously rocks for a lot of reasons. Now, in an effort to keep the *beloved* (note: sarcasm) American Idol in it's home time slot, the Fox PTB have moved Bones against VM, forcing me to choose against the gorgeous David Boreanaz and the smartly written VM. Again, how is a girl to choose? I love smart TV, but I love me some DB. These are just a few of the glaring errors I noted in this season's TV schedule. And a plug for another season of Firefly - How rockin' would Friday nights be with Firefly at 9pm and Battlestar Galatica at 10pm on SciFi? That is pure marketing gold. (Let's face it, if advertisers can make money off of BG, then can definitely make money off Firefly!)

FIREFLY SEASON 2!??!
Monday, 23 January 2006 23:39:52

ALRIGHT! Sorry if this is REAAAAALLY old news or I missed summat, but on CTRL-ALT-DELETE webcomic, a link was posted to a sight called: www.fireflyseason2.com/index ...now I dunno if this is true, but it looks a bit fishy to me...I REALLY hope this is true and not a hoax! I'm sorry once again if this is old news and I am out of the loop and becuase of it I have offended someone...in some wierd way...(Kinda strange, but people are known to do this sort of thing, I am told). Anyways, hope you'll look inta this! Good night, and good luck....FROM IDAHO! Icarus out!

Thought I'd take the time out to thank everyone who's left reviews for my Blue Sun Room stuff. They've been all kinds of appreciated, and getting new ones always makes my day. Stay tuned for the much-requested Mal drawing. It should be finished within the week.

How supremely chuffed am I! My Serenity Visual Companion just arrived. On a less good note, one of my lectures over ran so I missed another one I was supposed to attend... But still, Serenity! Yay. Also in the post is 'Finding Serenity: Anti-heroes, Lost Shepherds and Space Hookers in Joss Whedon's FIREFLY' I'm sooooooooo excited

Back in (the) black
Tuesday, 24 January 2006 17:33:15

Hell's bells, I've never worked so hard in my life! Three chapters fresh and posted in six days, and a fourth on the way... I feeeeel tiiiiired... But's it's fun. I'm having such a blast with this, and at least now I've got the structure sorted - I know where everything's heading. Some folks seem to have already sussed who our grey-suited villain is, and that suits  me fine - everyone else'll learn soon enough! Someone commented that it feels like an episode, and that's good - I'm watching a lot of Firefly as I'm writing, to try and get a feel for the pace. The episodes cram a lot into 50 minutes, loads of character moments, dialogue, action, etc. Capturing that in narrative form is a challenge! Back to the story now. Midnight oil? Check. DVD? Check. Work tomorrow? Nope. Hahahahaha...!

If you have a hard time reading scripts, just put on your favorite songs and have fun. www.stillflying.net Sometimes you should rest, sometimes you should keep running. Tragedy awaits. Keep flying!

well, umm. here goes. I am capable of rearranging the fundamental building blocks of the universe in under six seconds with enough time leftover to move 30 feet. I am capable of manipulating matter and energy on a subatomic level by speaking. A mere flick of my finger is sufficient to alter the gravitational pull of the planet. I shelve physics texts under 'fiction' in my personal library! I consider the laws of thermodynamics loose guidelines at best! In short, I am grasping the reigns of the universe's carriage, and every morning I wake up, look to the heavens, and shout, "Giddy up, boy!" You may never grasp the complexities of what I do, but at least have the courtesy to feign something other than slack-jawed oblivion in my presence. I, sir, am a wizard, and I break more natural laws before breakfast than of which you are even aware! -Vaarsuvius, the ORDER of the STICK.

I feel gutted
Wednesday, 25 January 2006 02:33:12

So, I found out just how many Canadians are stupid; aprox. 36%. And with that amount of people voting for the republi... I mean conservatives, we elected another presi... I mean prime minister last night. Where this country will be lead, I have an idea. And the sense of dread that I have... I cannot put into words. I just know that I am terrified of what this means; what the conservatives have said that they will do. Joe Clark said before he retired (paraphrase) "There's a reason why the new conservative party dropped the word progressive from its name." Well, some people wanted change, ignored Mr. Clark, and got change. And I really don't think that they know what it means just yet. But, they'll find out soon enough. We will all find out soon enough. The question is not if we're going to take some large steps backward. It's how many, and how often. I feel gutted.

WOOT!
Wednesday, 25 January 2006 04:27:43

So I was trying to do my part and loaned out my Firefly DVDs to spread the love and word, but I missed them so much. I have been slowly been getting them back and I just can't put into words how happy four hours of Firefly made me. I had a bad ear infection though so only hearing out of the one ear makes the surround sound pointless. blarg! But I have it!!! YEAH!!!!YEAH!!!

shiny new DVD
Wednesday, 25 January 2006 04:47:56

Just purchsed my second set of firefly DVD's. The first set got loaned out so many times I lost track of who has them. So now I got a set for myself..Been home this week with a nasty stomach flu so in between bathroom runs I watched the entire season again. Maybe I can get the tv into the bathroom....

Quick Poem Under Stress
Wednesday, 25 January 2006 10:11:56

I am swimming in stress, stress colors my every mood. I am not giving in but IT swallows me halfway - the top half - but my feet keep their light steps and quick strides. The world is indifferent to the beat of a camouflaged solitaire. Every word I spit out out of stress - how each letter just hurts! I blame YOU - the horrible sinker, you mass of dark, heavy cloud, you which makes me scowl and lip-tight, and makes me hate the world and everyone in it, including myself. Oh, the world and its indifference, the world of the self, selfish, self-centered, self-possessive, our world, our stress. Our Selves.

I wonder who it could be...?
Wednesday, 25 January 2006 11:03:42

Just found a Body floatin out here...wearin a red suit gotta pretty shiny Gun on his side...No cracks in the helmit...The suit is armoured also,it musta costed a purty penny...dont appear to be any thing wrong with the suit,Ounce we get the body out we'll clean it up and charge the tanks see if it will hold air...no need in throwin away a good suit now is there?...Evans said he wanted the weapon. Hmm...thats odd...there was a wanted poster for some girl in his pocket...I wonder what this guy was doin?...coulda been a bounty hunter I guess...wonder why he's floatin out here?...maybe this girl was more than he could handle...hmm seems theres alot of that lately. I was thinkin about that body and that ship trailin us...if that was his ship and somehow he got thrown out or maybe that girl made him get out somehow...well if it was his ship and it was still runnin when he left it that is why it was followin us...it was lookin for a safe place to land or another ship to dock with, thats what all ships are programed to do as long as they got fuel...hmm Think Im gonna back track and see if we can pick that ship back up if he abandoned it I could sell it for a good amount...and if that girl is still aboard she could be hurt or dead...

Nice to meet you Mal [serenity spoiler]
Wednesday, 25 January 2006 17:58:47

it was a Saturday and a friend rings me and asks whether I wanted to go to the cinema. "To see what?" I asked, "Serenity" he said "Why do you want to see that?" I asked "It's Amazing! It's based on a show called "firefly". I think it might be better than Star Wars" he said. "Wow, careful!" I said,(by my name you can see I'm a Star Wars fan)."Believe me" he said. Watched it, enjoyed it, got the series on DVD LOVED IT!,( It was then that it really hit home that Wash and Book are no longer with us) Now I'm an addict. And here I am. what have I let myself into?

Thanks

It's a family thing
Wednesday, 25 January 2006 19:37:08

A few weeks back, I showed my Mom Jaynestown and Objects in Space. She liked them enough to ask how hard it would be to watch all the episodes in order. So we set out, one episode per day, to watch the whole series. She made it without missing a day (and one day, she watched TWO!). Anyway, after it was over, she began planning how to get my Grandmother (Grammy) over to watch as much as possible in a single day. I turned Mom into me... "She needs to see Jayne being recruited. Oh, and the scene with Book's hair! Ooh, and the first scene of Our Mrs. Reynolds!" So now, Grammy - in her seventies - is in the living room watching Serenity. She laughed out loud when Mal said "Huh." upon finding River. She's laughed out loud MANY times. When it blacked to a commercial at some point, she said, "Is it over?!" Scientifically proven that Firefly, given the fighting chance it deserves, can appeal to EVERY DEMOGRAPHIC. *G*

Sane Addiction
Wednesday, 25 January 2006 19:45:05

Its official, I have fully become a complete and utter Firefly addict! It hit me so hard. I spent so much time refusing to watch it in my own silent boycott (I'm still not quite over the whole Dark Angel cancellation though), and yet only two episodes later and here I am perusing nothing but browncoat sites on the web. I'm not quite sure how it got to this point. I guess it was after I relented and allowed myself to watch the BDM last month. I mean, nothing special about it though, right? Though I admit Kaylees line about "batteries", left me snickering to myself for days. Plus I've been a Jewel Staite fan for years, especially after I saw her those times at Dragon*con. That must have been why I asked my friend to purchase the DVD set for me for my birthday. Now, one week and a few episodes later, the show has my mind fully entrenched and thinking "there's no place I'd rather be, since I found Serenity". Maybe it was the fact that they speak Chinese. After I spending so much time these last few years learning some of the language and only watching Asian programming, it was interesting to see an American show that shared my love of it. Or it could just be Jayne's line about the "chain of command" that pulled me in. Either way, I'm now firmly "out to the black", and I doubt if I'll ever come back. ~Tai feng le

Hope the new bandwagon rolls to a stop soon...
Wednesday, 25 January 2006 21:57:04

:crap: Yep... as the title of my blog suggests I am none too happy with the new bandwagon that some blue sun posters seem to have jumped on. Seriously people :finger: what's with all the muppets. The first one (animal as Jayne) wasn't too bad but I think that's about my limit.:bash: Luckily the new chapter of The Fish Job was posted today and it's shiny. I'm guessing the next instalment (before the weekend ) will have a great plot section with some wise cracking remarks from our BDH's.:blast: I'm about done for the evening (with my fancy UK timezone), but the rest of you... Have Fun!

Why the disparity in ranking on my new fic?
Wednesday, 25 January 2006 23:47:42

Today, I posted the first two chapters of my new multi-chapter fanfic "Family," and I'm wondering something. Chapter 1, which is pretty much all sex, has a ranking of 7; and Chapter 2, which admittedly starts the plot, has a ranking of 9. Why the difference? Is it because of the sex/not much plot vs conversation/plot beginning aspect. Is it something different. Or is it nothing at all--just me being a worrier? I am curious, and would appreciate any responses, as that will help me in writing future fics. Thanks!

New Mal video
Thursday, 26 January 2006 00:03:48

Whew. Just finished my third Firefly-themed music video, and MAN was it hard (yes). I thought the River vid was hard. Then I thought the Inara vid was hard. I didn't know hard. The problem is that song's often called "epic," so I tried to give the video the same feel. I don't know if watching it will feel epic, but the process of creating it sure was. Here it is: "Follow My Way" (music by Chris Cornell) Mal character study with spoilers for every episode, plus the movie. 4:40 WMV Two sizes Full (856x480) - 40.3MB *Updated*

How I got Started
Thursday, 26 January 2006 06:20:46

In the last two weeks I have watch Serenity at least 30 times and with in the last three months I have watched FireFly Three Times. I admit one it first came out I was a secptic, and being an idiot I didn't watch it when it was on TV. When it came out on DVD, I got adicited to it. I love the mix of humor and surious tones. I work at a video store and Serenity is my must watch, it is the movie I recomend to everyone. I have not had one verbal commplaint yet. Power to the 'Verse!!!! God Bless!!!!

Is it just me, or....
Thursday, 26 January 2006 07:52:25

Okay, I'm going to hop up onto my soap box for a second here. Is it just me, or does the site seem a mite harsh lately? I don't mean this log in any disrespectful way at all; I just wanted to point out that, over the last month or so, I've noticed comments getting a whole lot less with the polite and more with the...well..less polite. I don't want to act like I'm lecturing everyone on constructive criticism, but I do personally feel that no matter what you have to say, there is a nice way to say it. Having put a lot of my artwork and fanfic and now photoshoped stuff up in the BSR, I know how much a person puts there ego out there whenever they post. And I will be the first one to ask how can I make 'this' better. I love to hear CC. It's how we grow as artists. I just think that we need to treat the internet like we would a regualar conversation. Use all the same filters people! Please. I hope this is just a phase, or we've got some trollers who are all pmsing right now. Anywho, I'll step down off my box for now. If I am way off, excuse me, but I think I might be closer to the point on this one.

Character Song Suggestions?
Thursday, 26 January 2006 08:38:13

Okay, that's it... I'm officially stuck and asking for help... Can anybody suggest any songs for the following characters?: Zoe. Book. Simon. River. The others I've got down pat: Mal, Wash, Inara, Jayne, Kaylee, Serenity and the Reavers. But those four? They're starting to peeve the beejeesus outta me. I'm -->.

Maybe It's Me...
Thursday, 26 January 2006 17:52:50

First off, I'm 26 years old, which ain't old or world-weary by a long shot, but I've been around the block enough times to have developed some cynicism about the world in general, and to have come to the realization that my life ain't going to turn out like I'd thought it would. It's pretty easy to just get stuck in the daily grind of work and stress, and money, and all the other baggage that comes from trying to make ends meet. Here's the thing though. Lately, when I'm driving in my car, I like to pretend it's spaceship. It's got needles and dials, and levers and everything, and in TV they always seem to have lots of little switches to hit in those ships. (Loved what Alan Tudyk was talking about with his character, how he had those three switches he'd hit whenever the scene called for him to get something ready in the cockpit. :) Actually, my car's a little bit like Serenity. It's always on the verge of falling apart, and it's basically held together with baling wire, duct tape, and love. (Well, maybe not so much the love insofar as my own car goes...) I do a little pre-flight check before I go anywere. I no longer park my car, so much as take it in for a landing. Here's another thing: I work in a grocery store, far from glamorous, but it pays the bills okay. I run the night crew there. Basically from 10pm to 6 in the morning, I'm in charge of the stockers, the floor guy, and the overnight cashier. I'm really not terribly cut out for a leadership role, but I sort of happened into the job. Now that I'm totally stuck on this show, though, I find that I kind of channel Mal when I'm on the job. When I have to do one of those "I'm the boss, listen do what I tell you" things, I try to think of how Mal would handle the situation. Wierd thing is: it kind of works. Perhaps it's just me, but Firefly re-opened a door into my imagination. For me that means alot. I've been dealing with some serious writer's block for years now, almost to the point where I was starting to look at a life where I wasn't going to be doing anything creative. I've actually started drawing again, for the first time in almost four years, and I'm revisting a couple stories that I never got around to starting. The Serenity may be grounded for the time being, but since it fly into my life, I've gone from burnt-out minimum-wager to starving artist. And that ain't nuthin... Holding 'till Mal gets back.

I just want to grow up and graduate from high school.
Thursday, 26 January 2006 19:30:11

I know I shouldn't whine, but I can't wait until I get out of my small town and get to travel around the world. That's what I want to do, travel and do the things that I love to do. Be myself...a songwriter, author, painter, and couch potatoe...when the t.v. calls for it. anyway...that's all i have to say. ~Beth Daleen

YAY!
Thursday, 26 January 2006 21:28:06

YAY! It's my birthday today! I'm 18!!! .....Weeeirrddd! I don't feel any different though...:disappointed: just wanted to broadcast my happiness!!!

Professor Jamison
Thursday, 26 January 2006 22:37:23

The other day in one of my classes, the professor was talking about a book and how it, or something about it was supposedly being made into a movie. She mentioned that if it came out during the semester and any of the students went to see it, then she would give extra credit. (I was thinking, "cool, that sounds like fun".) She then went on to say that last semester she gave extra credit to her students that went and saw Serenity. My hand shot into the air--how could I let that comment go by without saying something? All red-faced, embarrased, and excited I blurted out--when she was finished, of course--that Serenity was the coolest movie EVER! Someone else in the class agreed with me, too! The best part was that my professor let me speak my piece and then she agreed with me when she said that she was a "rabid Joss Whedon fan". There was a little Joss Whedon moment in my English class! And the best part was that it was about Firefly and Serenity! Yay! I go to the best Universtiy EVER! (Okay, not ever, but that was SO COOL!) Go Utes! (I go to the Universtiy of Utah.)

BDCS(big damn comic strip)

Friday, 27 January 2006 02:35:20

hi
Friday, 27 January 2006 06:55:10

i've not really anything to say, i just felt the *need* to post. i'm watching bad tv and thinking how crappy tv really is. network tv sucks. a lot. i started watching the scifi channel's battlestar galactica and i really like it. who do you think would win in a fight? starbuck or zoe? for that matter, who would win in a fight between jayne and starbuck? i don't think i'd care who won that fight, i'd take either one of them. IF ya know what i mean... got a crush on both of them. anyway, i'm outta here. keep flyin' guys.

you know what...........
Friday, 27 January 2006 09:30:50

:finger: i am starting to hate some of the actors, actresses, musicans (preferly pop singers, you know the ones who don't even wirte their own music) now-a-days. maybe it is 'cause i am a lil depressed, but who knows. is it me, or are they WAY over paid? most of the don't have to worry about practically anything. the only things they really worry about is looking good & looking right for their role. if they need to lose weight, buff up, trim a lil...all they have to do it take a few months off before shooting & just do it that way. us normal people have to cut it in our schedules between work, sleep, eating, & errands we have to run. i wish we all could take a break for a few months to get into shape or better shape. :bash: then, they really don't have to worry about paying rent/bills on time. i think they even have someone else do that for them. "gee, i wonder where i am going to spend this $3000 i have just lying around? i know clothes & accesories that are more $$$ than what they are really worth." speaking of which, i just say this very nice tank-top online & it was $200...why would anyone buy a tank-top for that much? i do understand if you can spare the $$$, but damn, for a tank-top...i think it did have some form of glittery design thing on it. i guess i can say thank-god for wal-mart, target, k-mart & some other places that truly understand the meaning of minimum wage. remind me to move to mexico where nothing is over priced for the people living there...retired folks go there to live when they are fully done w/ work...i can see why now. call me jealous, call me anything...i was just thinking & thought i would vent to you all.

Its bigger than I thought...
Friday, 27 January 2006 11:11:52

I think Im just skimmin the surface here...Maybe I am a shallow trigger happy lunk with the sex drive of 5 bulls...ok,I realise i jump to conclusions some times and may be I tend to be predjudice when it comes to some people...but come on these arent times to let ya hair down and go with the flow... This is bullshit, shes teasin me...shes tryin ta make it hard on me{she has succeeded in more ways than one}...flittin around in front of me with clothes on that make what shes got seem more better...I must not crumble... I gott it bad real bad...Me and Drew were checkin the shuttle out and Evans came over to help,I started to tell them what I thought she was doing...you know teasein me and not lettin me have her and turnin me down tryin ta break my will...They just sat there with this dumbfounded look on thier faces...Evens says "well we all knew you two was gittin pretty tight it was showin every time yall would get within 3 meters of each other then yall would sit and look real thoughtful like when yall was apart.Captian she aint tryin ta mess with your head or tease ya she aint changed the way she dresses or walks or talks or none of that,She's the same little woman you hired today as back then...well a lil more used the way yall been goin at it...but the point is Captian, you two are bigger than this so when yall getcha heads back on the right fashion learn from this and make it work cause this Verse is full of lonley people and it aint good for any man ta be alone even you Captian" Drew just nodded. So I guess me and the Cook has been focusin more on the outward than whats inward...Idunno...but ... Its bigger than I thought...

Homework. Who Knew?
Friday, 27 January 2006 18:30:27

Well. The weekend slowly comes around, inching its way towards you like a caterpillar through un-mowed grass; then you drink beer until you can't see the sidewalk outside Moe's Tavern. Its straight out of a Homer Simpson fantasy. "Here I am." Or, so the saying goes, Jubal. All you browncoats: I'm here to tell ya, I'm a leaf on the wind...........watch how i soar. Mark the music.

Couple Thoughts 'Bout Kaylee (spoilers)
Friday, 27 January 2006 19:02:29

Yeah, I got kind of a crush on Kaylee. I tend to go for the "cute one" on TV and movies anyways, so I wasn't too suprised about it once I started working my way through the episodes. One thing that's new to me however, is the way she kicks my big brother instincts into gear. I won't go into how well-written the character is or how spot-on Jewel Staite's portrayal is, 'cause that's pretty much a given. And it's true of the rest of the crew, as well. What I find compelling, though, is how my emotional response in certain scenes is a gut reaction to want to protect little Kaylee, keep her out of harm. That bumbling Fed in the Serenity episode got what was coming to him, if you ask me. (And don't even get me started on Early :) Here's what I've been wondering, though. There is no question that Kaylee's a vital member of the crew, and the Serenity certainly wouldn't be the same without her. I just sometimes wonder if she's a little out of her element. Galavanting around the 'verse with a motley band of thieves and smugglers, so to speak. She was quite cute with her little pistol in War Stories, but that didn't turn out so well when the going got tough. Of course, one sees later that she can hold her own if properly motivated ("Oh, you mean sex?"), and plenty strong-willed when properly backed-up. Can't really say that Mal was wrong to bring her on board. Not everyone needs to be a rough-and-tumble, pistol-packin' badass. I rather like in this show that not everyone is. (Besides, Mal, Zoe, Jayne, and of course River, now, are more than capable of taking care of business.) Anyways, here's the thought that keeps coming back to me. If I was Kaylee's older brother, would I have let her run off with this band of miscreants? I still haven't made up my mind. Maybe that was the best shot she'd have at a better life. Would I have had a choice? I imagine she was a little hell-raiser back on her home planet... Still, if I ever get around to trying my hand at some fan-fiction that might make an interesting little vignette. Kaylee's brothers show up and try to bring her back to home and safety. (Course I'm just assuming she even had any older siblings, but, you know... tomboy and all... I always had a hunch she was from a largish family.) More random nonsense from nuclearday. Putting the pain in painting.
Friday, 27 January 2006 19:05:09

AUTHOR'S BLOG #3 Huzzah! Even though I had to paint my kitchen over the last coupla days (:disappointed:), I got Chapter 5 finished this morning and posted this afternoon (). Narrative's picking up pace now, and New Prospects feels like a very different story from when I started, way back, er, last Thursday. I don't know if that's 'cause I'm getting more comfortable with the characters, landscape and language or what, but I can't wait to get this tale told. It's fun, dropping in little hints and revealing bits and pieces along the way - it's about as close as I'll ever get (*sighs*) to realising what a blast Joss must've had! Still wish I'd chosen a better, catchier title, though. :crap: Ah, well. On with the show! :blast: -----------------------

urgh.

I haven't logged on in awhile. Nothing really happening in my life. I got an account on a Firefly drabble community. You can check it out here:

Jayne Observation
Saturday, 28 January 2006 04:18:54

I was re-watching Our Mrs Reynolds yesterday, and I noticed (not for the first time) that in the scene where Jayne is about to use Vera on the Scrapper Station, Mal specifically tells him not to shoot the windows as "that might kill someone". Jayne proceeds to shoot the breakers AND the window. A little act of defiance on his part? I like to think so.

Good news

Just finished watching episode 12 of BSG. Whoa  talk about a good episode. It was pretty heart wrenching. Don't know if there are many BSG fans here, but seriously ... it's something you guys should try to watch. My workloads been so gorram heavy recently, I haven't really had the time to finish reading the script of Dead or Alive. Wish they'd continue with Firefly. I want more!!! :fork:

Posted: 27 Jul 2005 11:44 pm Post subject: Captain Outraged! Edmonton, fall in! -------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------- -- It is times like these that I feel like Malcolm Reynolds. This is something that would surely get you kicked into an engine. I just went to a comic store to purchase the Serenity comic for my mom. The sweetheart that she is, gave her issues (with her favorite character on the front) to relatives who were having trouble tracking one down. Please bear in mind that Canada is a wondrous place where the service industry is polite and helpful, and that this experience is not the norm. The store I chose, which shall remain nameless (Warp 1 Comics), at an undisclosed location (just off Whyte Ave), has the singlemost sanctimonious, condescending, dishonest a$$hole I've had the misfortune of meeting. My brother and I called ahead to find out they had one issue left, but upon arriving, found out they are gouging people $20 bucks for the damned thing! "That's what they're worth." he sneered at me. I asked him to show me a listing of some sort to back it up. "Well, I just know what I paid Dark Horse for it." He wouldn't show me that, either. I am aware that Dark Horse wasn't expecting these books to sell as well as they are, and that they are going into a second printing, but I just picked up three of them two days ago at cover price at another store. My brother piped up with a, "What an interesting attitude you have." Let me tell you folks, this fella had an attitude, and a smirk that you wanted to knock off his face with a baseball bat dipped in dog poop. Of course, my brother couldn't help letting this guy know who he was trying to hose by holding the issue next to my face. "This guy look familliar? This isn't some JoJo off the street! He knows what he's talking about!" Check this out- the reply of this crap-catcher, who shall remain nameless (Darryl) was, (and imagine a dullards voice- how we make people we don't like sound in a story) "Well, then you can call Joss Whedon and ask him." I had to tell this purplebelly that I was being sarcastic when I thanked him for his excellent service, and I don't think he knew what sanctimonious meant! Wouldn't a smart business man ask me to sign an issue and sell me one at a fair price? Wouldn't that fetch a prettier penny than ripping me off for one issue? Congratulations, dude! You are now on the Browncoat $hitlist. Never have I tried to wield power in this way, but if being Malcolm Reynolds has taught me anything, it's to follow my over-developed sense of vengeance. BOYCOTT WARP ONE COMICS! If you are in the neighborhood, drop by to tell "the Buttress" that Browncoats don't take $hit from anyone. Tell your friends not to shop there, and lock 'em in the airlock if they do. Copy this post and e-mail it to fellow Edmontonians. Bump it to keep it alive. Thank you. Thank you for letting me rant. If you feel I'm overboard, please feel free to, as Joss would say, contemplate silently. The Captain Edited to be less cruel, and to mention how wonderfully my dear mom was treated at HAPPY HARBOR. Thank you, staff and owners at Happy Harbor. You made my mom's day. Turns out, Warp One tried to hose her, too, by telling her that the Jayne covered issue was a rarity. Love you, Adam B. You ARE a rarity. Nothin' agin you. But will these butt-tards stoop so low as to steal from a woman? For shame, Warp One, for shame. Summer Glau's Acting
Saturday, 28 January 2006 20:24:31

See this a lot on various threads, but I just have to gush a bit more about talented this girl is. What I keep coming back to in my mind, is how hard a role that likely was to play. From Summer's portrayal of River it's hard to see, but I'm sure that in the hands of a less-talented actress River could have come out entirely different. Really, that part could have sunk the show if done wrong or over-acted. They way she's able to convey some pretty complex emotions always impressed me. I'm no acting-coach or anything, but I've watched enough TV by now to know good acting when I see it. Some of my favorite River Tam moments: SPOILERS COMING... The dance segment in Safe almost had me in tears for some reason. The end of War Stories of course, with her shootout is an all-time classic. Plus the foreshadowing there... Then obviously the fight scenes in the BDM. Goes without saying. My only wish was that I'd seen more episodes before the movie, so I'd know just what a huge turn that was for her. My favorite: It's a short scene, but it always just kills me when I see it. In the Serenity movie, Simon and River are talking in the infirmary about Miranda. Simon has that line where he asks if he's talking to Miranda, and River her just gives him that look. There's a whole history in that one expression she gives him that conveys more than any amount of dialogue could have. Anyways, that scene right there always makes me wish she'd won an award for that movie. Definately and up-and-coming young actress that's going to go big places. I just hope she's not too busy to come back to the crew if we can ever the Serenity flying again.

D'oh! Realization for dummies...
Saturday, 28 January 2006 22:53:20

"Cry baby, cry" "Make your mother sigh" Arrrrggghhh! It really bothers me that I didn't realise that was a Beatles lyric until now. Well, it is. Not that this has anythign to do with anything... it's just... I should have known and I didn't. Thank you John Lennon, thank you Joss Whedon... in succeeding to drive me crazy. You both rock.

Wash, in the Present Tense
Saturday, 28 January 2006 23:04:37

For some reason, every time I try to write Wash lately, he insists on being present tense. If I were better schooled in the way of psychiatrics, I would probably say this stems from my deep-seated desire for him to NOT BE FUCKING DEAD, JOSS, KTHXBAI. Whatever the reason, it's seriously messing with the next chapter of How I Soar, (which is decidedly in the past tense,) and the aside I've been writing (the missing shower scene, for those following the series, which should also be past tense in order to *fit* with the rest of the series.) I wrote a Wash/Zoe today that somewhat sated my desire to write Wash present tense, but I can't promise it'll hold me indefinitely. Not that anyone who reads my fiction will complain too loudly if I have to spout off a few random ficlets to help me deal, right?

Amazon Dropped the Ball with Serenity TPB?
Sunday, 29 January 2006 03:13:30

I wrote to Amazon the other night (more like the wee hours of the morning, 01272006) asking just why the TPB for Serenity, release date 01252006, was still listed as unreleased on Amazon's website. I'd been keeping an eye on this one for a while, given that Amazon's delivery estimate for this thing was wonky from the get-go(1). I just got a response. Apparently, Amazon has since checked into the release date for the TPB, and the customer service rep claims the following:
However, our latest information indicates that "Serenity" has not yet been released and the expected release date is not known. As soon as a release date has been determined for this item, we will add that information to our web site.
Now, it's like this. The thing's been on shelves all over the place since the day of release, so clearly it's available somewhere on this planet. How a comic book shop can carry the publication and Amazon says it's off the release date radar is beyond me, especially considering that it was in the top 500 books sold at Amazon on its release date(2). Clearly, there's some revenue involved somewhere along this line. Rest assured, however --
I've contacted the concerned person in our company to look into this matter. Please understand that we make a significant effort to keep abreast of prices and availabilities, but our reliance on our suppliers for information about the items they offer means that, occasionally, our database will not reflect all changes. While we are confident that copies will be made available, we cannot provide more precise information about the fulfillment of the order.
Lemme get this straight. The suppliers are getting the books moving to local businesses all over the place, but somehow, the suppliers aren't bothering to tell the massive retail elephant when the book's going to land? I just don't get it. I dimly remember something being said about bookstore chains getting their copies later than the comic book shops, but I can't see that as being a hazy thing. There has to be a date documented somewhere. Besides that, I'm loving the form letter bit here. If there is a "concerned person," I'm wondering how many cards they have up on their latest solitaire conquest. This e-mail just seems so... so... stupid. :bash: They decided to be nice, however, and upgrade my shipping for the book... once it finally comes out. I also got a $5 discount on the next order I place at Amazon... whenever that may be. I'm thinking they'd better get their accounts in order (like, say, this order stuck in the aether) before I go perusing the site again. (1) I'd preordered the TPB in the beginning of November. The shipping/delivery estimate on the order said the thing would be landing, at the latest, by 01202006. Someone's botched their coding somewhere, because that shouldn't be reported for an item due to release 01252006, should it? Dammit, I want a job in database coding now. (2) I think it was somewhere in the 300's. I remember checking to see whether the release information had been updated. Heh. Yeah, right. Sure it was.

high on firefly
Sunday, 29 January 2006 03:45:24

I just want to say that not too long ago i found the secret Jayne track on the episode DVD's. I felt very in the know. So far, that's been my biggest accomplishment as a Firefly fan. I still need to purchase the movie though. At the moment I'm a broke college student. Anyway, don't drink and blog - unless lucid only comes in a bottle

This is anger...
Sunday, 29 January 2006 05:06:22

A quick summary of how I was feeling last night: :finger::fork::blast::bash::pissed: For anyone who missed all the drama, I posted a new fanfic entitled "Wet" in the Blue Sun Room. Anyone who's read any of my fics can probably guess the pairing and rating, right? Here's the first reponse I recieved, from an anonymous poster:
"umm... thats past NC-17... and uhh, if ur gonna write porno novel, please don't post it here like this. I'm 17 myself and my little brother gets on this site. think aobut the children."
Mmmmkay. I think I've figured out why this ticked me off. First: Past NC-17? Is there such a thing? As far as I'm concerned, unless otherwise noted, NC-17 denotes that the story contains graphic sexual activity between consenting adults. Which is what my story contained. Second: My fic is hardly the only NC-17 story on this site. Although this troll said it was the first one it had read. Well now, if it's the first it read on the site, it must be the only one, right? :banghead: Third, the troll went on to say that Simon and Kaylee's love is much purer than what I portray in my fic. All right, anyone who's read my previous fics (there's 12 of them) knows that I have spent this entire series showing the progression of Simon and Kaylee's relationship. Also, just because their love is "pure," they have to be celibate? Uh, :censored: that. Personally, I believe that when two people truly love each other, sex can be one of the purest ways of expressing that love. Furthermore, and I think this is the thing that really annoyed me: Think about the children? No, I will not. Know why? Because they are not my children. Frankly, if parents allow a young child to be online without discussing what kind of sites the child is allowed to visit, or monitoring their child's online activities in some way, anything that the kid is exposed to, anything that happens, is completely and totally the fault of the parents. I'm already disgusted by people who use the TV or internet as a babysitter. I really don't need someone telling me that I somehow have an obligation to make it that much easier for them to do so. Bull:censored:. Sorta like when people complain about what their kids see on TV. So sorry Hollywood hasn't done a better job of raising your kids. And after that, the troll has the nerve to start critcizing my writing style. Yeah, not even going there, except to say that anyone who wants to critque any writer damn well better learn how to spell first. I'll quit bitching and get back to writing, but first, to summarize: If you don't like NC-17 material, don't read my fics. If you don't like my writing style, don't read my fics. If you read one of my fics and don't much like it, I don't much care. And of course, if you are under the minimum age for viewing adult material wherever you live... Oh, let's be honest here. If you're underage and you want to read NC-17 fics, even though you shouldn't, nothing I say is going to stop you, right? Gorram kids these days, no respect for the rules...why in my day we had to walk 15 miles to read smut! Through five feet of snow! Uphill! Both ways! *stomps off, muttering about rap music and baggy clothes*

Captain Mal sketch
Sunday, 29 January 2006 09:54:42

I've had lots and lots of requests (sometimes even demands ) for a Mal sketch since I posted my first image of Jayne ages ago. I finally got around to getting one finished and posted in the Blue Sun Room. Go and check it out.

Oh, a blog ... nifty!
Sunday, 29 January 2006 11:45:04

I already have a weblog, but the readers there don't seem to appreciate Firefly too much, so I will just put my Firefly related stuff here (lots of Firefly in my life right now, I just bought the DVD set a week ago and am absolutely and totally hooked to the show, the 'verse and everything). I contacted Steven aka Misteruniverse who does this fabulous Browncoat radio station on live365 and send him some German music files. It is cool to be able to contribute something. I finished my second Firefly fanvid "Carrie", featuring the love between Mal and Inara. Unfortunately my webspace is full, but Bill has volunteered to host it on his server, so it might be available soon. I plan on doing another vid next, this one focusing on Wash. Isn't he such a cutey? I have not decided on a song yet, probalby I will use "Rebel Rouser" by Duane Eddy. Last night I finally watched the Serenity movie. Woah! Much more serious and darker than the series. I can't believe they actually killed Wash. Really got under my skin, this one. I loved the story. All this stuff about hushing up secrets and control of information. What in the 'verse might have inspired Joss here  Okay, enough for today, have to keep flyin', Capella

ok here's where I'm fuzzy
Sunday, 29 January 2006 12:32:59

I noticed while ploting the next week of the strip I'm doing how hard it is to get nine interacting charecters to mesh into a decent story esp. in a comic strip format..The way I see it about the only way is to just concentrate on a few charecters at a time this makes for a longer story and more periods where nothing much happens..not very good for a action comic strip..thoughts, anyone?

Good fortune

Firefly viewing
Sunday, 29 January 2006 14:03:50

Just finished watching the series on DVD today. Watched the final three episodes, "The Message", "Heart of Gold" and "Objects in Space". What can I say, fantastic. I'm not much of a reviewer, but I do plan to rewatch these soon, after I get Serenity on DVD. Maybe I'll post some coments then.

Good Casting = Hard to Draw
Sunday, 29 January 2006 16:30:56

More redundant gushing, but here goes anyway. Mostly I need a couple minutes to take some time off a couple of my projects. Haven't really been drawing or writing in QUITE some time, now that it's starting to come back, I have to tell myself to step away once in awhile... ... anyways. The casting in this gorramn show. Just excellent. Really. I'm noticing this while I'm trying to sketch some of the characters. Everyone's a little... off. Really, I mean that in a good way. Each character sort of almost reminds me of their stereotypes, but each also has a pretty unique look that I hadn't really noticed before. Like Mal. Jason Fillion I at first thought was a dead ringer for Jason Bateman. (Huge fan of Arrested Development as well... I tend to fall for doomed shows I guess.) They both have that sort of wit in their respective shows that makes for a good lead character. Mal is really alot harder to draw because of that, to me at least. He's got that nose... I keep subconsciously wanting to go for a sleeker... I don't know... pretty-boy? look? He's got that lead-role look to him, but there's that hard edge that I have trouble getting down on paper. Not to mention I keep ending up with Jason Bateman. (Sidenote, I don't swing that way, but if I did... that man has an ass heaven-sent by winged angels. Truly, it answers to a higher power...) Wash. I used to watch Andromeda back when I didn't have cable and UPN was the only channel that would come in clear. Fun show. Kevin Sorbo, and all. Wash at first glance I figured for a copy of the pilot dude from that show. ie, the silly blonde guy that cracks jokes. Wash, though has that inner strength thing going on. I loved in the train job episode at the end with the shootout. Wash is a man of action, but maybe not such a gun guy, right? So he lends a hand using the skills he has, running the bad guys down with the mule. Just little touches like that I really dug. Anyways, I draw to sketch Wash, I keep thinking in my mind that I'm going for that kid from Andromeda, but all grown-up. Not quite the same result. :P Gina Torres is easier for me. I used to watch Cleopatra 2525 when that was on. (UPN again... :) So I'm a little more used to seeing her I guess. Can't really say much more there. Zoe's been good practice while I work the rust out of my drawing hand. Then there's Kaylee. She's driving me absolutely crazy. She's the first I'm trying for a full-scale drawing, and I really should have done some more roughs first. Trying for her face from a screencap or with DVD on pause makes me remember why my art teachers always said not to do that. One of those people who have a lot of disparate features that somehow come together to create a rather pleasing whole. Per the original topic as to the casting: I keep thinking on occasion what this show would be like if they'd taken the easy way or the more well-travelled road. I keep envisioning the casting call for Kaylee, and seeing all these young actresses with more conventional looks. But it just wouldn't have been Kaylee, now would it? Not sure how to put it, really, so I'll shut up about it. Still, driving me nuts... River, River, River... Summer's too good an actress to make it easy for me sketch her. I've got my shots picked out. She's actually fun to draw once I got some practice at it. But she's got too many complex emotions going on in that face... just a terror trying to capture it the way I want to. I see it in some of the other fan art, too. The good ones are good, but the ones that really capture the... Riverness of River, just... blow my mind. The two that really come to mind is mphillips' ones, and the recent couple by Krispee. It's all in the eyes. Let's see... I'm working on Book right now, but that might be awhile getting done. He's the one I come to when I need a break. Actually, another fun one. Ironically, I think it's because he's such a good actor. He's just really giving me all the material I need to go on. Most of my troubles with Book is lack of practice. I guess that leaves Simon, Jayne, and Ina

Slightly obsessed!!
Sunday, 29 January 2006 21:08:50

Ok...I admit it, I have a problem!! I am so totally off my mind obsessed with firefly!! I spent way too much money this weekend on ebay on firefly stuff. I even paid 25 bucks for a copy of a signed script!! Can you say psycho!! Anywho, I think some of my friends think I need an intervention, but I can't help it!! I think that there are subliminal messages in that show or something because it isn't normal to be this obsessed is it?!? I'm so glad that I have this website to visit to prove to myself that there are people that are just as screwed up as I am!!

1st blog for the Blue One
Sunday, 29 January 2006 22:43:02

Hey there. So Ive begun to watch Farscape and BSG. I'm not very far along mind you. Farscape, about 6 eps into season one and BSG, the miniseries and 1st 4 episodes. Its a slow process between school and work but I'm really enjoying them both so far. I have some minor inssues with Farscape but I have been assured these will be resolved :) But... Neither has been quite as satifying as Firefly has been. I know they are all different types of shows but they all fall into the Sci-fi catagory and many who are FF fans are also fans of these show, No? I think I have just been spoiled by firefly. I think its mainly the characters. Those in FS and BSG dont draw me in as Mal and his crew. Its other things as well, (ie the uniquenes of Joss' 'verse, the writting) plus I cant watch BSG and the cinematography and not think Firefly. They are both very similar. Its just weird and had to post about it cause my roomate and friend look at me like I'm a little crazy. We all know this is the case, but no need to tell them. P.S. perhaps it would help in Nathan was in BSG... oh wait, did I say that out loud?

OK So I'm not usually one to ask for assistance
Monday, 30 January 2006 00:49:25

All right folks here's the deal: I need any wisdom that people above, below or at my years can give me. As I've mentioned I'm moving to the core (Well British Columbia, Canada anyway) Because that's where my fiancee is now what I'm thinking is this: If I get him to sponsor me it's going to be a pain if I can't find work? If I go over on a work visa and have a job well what if we have to live far apart? What if none of this works and I have to stay on the ruttin rim? I know that there are people out there that are wiser and maybe even some Vancouver Browncoats that can give some leads on work **Looks pleadingly** It's just I'm starting to really worry about this, I miss him *SO* much and I just want to be there already so I need ideas people, please help out a fellow Brown Coat Thanks everyone for reading this, it means the world to a girl- and to all of those out there who have been constant in their support thank-you even more.

Slow in the coming, but coming nonetheless...
Monday, 30 January 2006 05:01:49

Ladies, gentlemen, and potential lovers: Happy Chinese New Year! So I'm still working on chapter 7 of my fic, no worries, it'll get posted *hopefully* this week. Track and Field season is finally here, and being a distance runner am constantly too tired to even think about writing. I have half of it written, and I really like it. I'm just a little stuck, is all. I just read a few late comments by an anonymus on my last two chapters and was quite pleased that so many people enjoy it. Isn't that the best about writing? I'm also a little slow on the clay crewmembers. Wash, River, Book, and Kaylee are frequent visitors to my desktop, and are just bugging me to bake Zoe and finish the headless Jayne, Mal, and Simon. Inara is special, as she's still yet to be made  I also fixed my scanner (FINALLYOMGITTOOKFREAKINGFOREVER) so the pics should also be up later this week. One last note: I got these great Asics running shoes (Kayano) and they have some kind of Chinese writing on the tongue! I didn't even notice that until I put them on today. This must be a sign. I'm gonna have a good season. Later days, Browncoats! P.S. I'm very jealous towards all those who saw Summer and Alan this weekend! Lucky ducks!

Staying with Love
Monday, 30 January 2006 10:59:40

Today a poster called me "obsessed". Ok, I admit, I felt hurt. But I have now decided to take it as a compliment. Especially, what is there to deny, even? That I feel uneasy without FireFly or Serenity? I do! Besides, what greater charge do I submit myself to than that of being Love-sick? It is a neediness I gladly fess up to. In fact, I generally spend a good portion of the day trying to keep an open heart, and to stay as much in want of Love as I possibly can (even though I know it sounds contradictory; but it really isn't). So, I remain in Love with River Tam. I mean, after all, what with us building better worlds and all, where exactly would it leave me if I no longer even have ideals of Love? I know reality does not so immediately offer opportunities for Love to the degree of serenity as, well, in Serenity, lol; but I'd say this ere leaves me more in want of Love, than less.

Damnit man...I dont wanna send her

Leave Shakespeare out of it
Monday, 30 January 2006 11:40:21

Yesterday I quoted Shakespeare. I probably should not do that too often: makes me look pedantic. But, while saying this, was it not also written, "To thine own self be true, and it must follow as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man"? I believe it was. :) And I believe I can already see its truth. Yesterday, I had sort of a personal epiphany, about what attracts me so intensely to FireFly/Serenity; and I realized it was Love; pure and simple. Today, after reading the board some more, I saw, to my joy, that I am clearly not alone in this perception. "To my joy," I say, as I find it a thing of beauty to behold how people, from all directions the wind may blow, are coming into the realization that it is, in fact, the Love that attracts them to FireFly. It's downright cute to witness, at that. We seem so conditioned to gratification of our base material needs, and setting all our sails to succeeding in just that one area, that when we actually encounter true Love, it really takes us time to process the information, and to become aware of what obscure button inside us got pushed. I mean, it really takes time to even identify Love as such -- so rare it apparently is. At the outset of people's FireFly experiences, I noticed that many, myself included, had their soul already resonate with the Love, long before their brain caught up with the why of being so drawn to this series. Humanity is an interesting species. So, staying the more true to mine own self than ever before. My browncoat ain't gonna go anywhere, any time soon.

Nominations for Strawberries end TOMORROW

Jessica
Monday, 30 January 2006 20:25:33

Jessica is an old friend who I picked out to be my first victim in my mission to convert me some hethens. I went over to her house one day just to show her the first few episodes. Take it slow, I figured. On that first day we ended up watching the first seven episodes straight through before I had to go. A few weeks later I returned and despite a number of obstacles (mainly other friends showing up and attempting to interrupt the Firefly marathon), we watched all the way through the last seven episodes, the bloopers (the extended version, I have it on my ipod), and the deleted scenes. We proceeded then to watch Serenity. At the end of the day I got the distinct feeling that although she had watched and loved it all, she wasn't going to be buying any of it. She cited the reason of insufficient funds, but I got the vibe that she really just didn't care that much about it. I left saddened, that despite my best efforts I hadn't managed to boost sales even a tiny bit. That night, online she messaged me a single line of "FIREFLY!" I sent her every link I could think of. Sent her the link to "Dead or Alive." Sent her the link to this website. Sent her a link to the strawberry awards. I made an Inara wallpaper for her. It's up in the blue sun room. She likes Inara, somethin' fierce. Only two days later she informed me that she had, in fact, bought herself a copy of Serenity. I guess sometimes it just takes time.

The Good, the Bad and the Stupid...
Monday, 30 January 2006 22:35:17

:banghead: OOooooohhhhhhh noooooooo! I worked on a new fan vid all evening and then the software crashed when I wanted to render it. And guess what? I forgot to save. All this work for nothing... *biting great holes in my desktop* Hmph! I will start over tomorrow. Good things have happened, too, though. Bill (aka Illuminix) is so kind to host my fan vids. Not just the Firefly stuff, but all of them. This is just so great. So now I have both my Firefly vids up.

If it were socially acceptable...
Monday, 30 January 2006 22:54:30

News from the Blue Sun Room: PsychicRiver liked my work. Cool. :) Not that I'm hunkering for human validation or anything, lol, but it was good to hear. I think I will lay off publishing "River art" to the Blue Sun Room, for a while, though. People here are so talented, and put up such magnificent work, that I fear I would only find new ways to embarrass myself even further. Must keep that to a minimum. I went over to PsychicRiver's blog, btw, and it seems like a person after my heart. Of course, with a nick like that, what do you expect? Is it a wonder I am drawn to people that are drawn to River? I left a short, but nice message, too. Not entirely sure that this is an appropriate thing to do here. But, I tell you, if it were socially acceptable, I'd hug the entire crowd here! :)

Gorramit!
Tuesday, 31 January 2006 05:38:32

We drove 30 minutes to Santa Ana to go to a showing of the big damn movie. We got parked and walked in, all dressed up in our browncoats. But as we was coming up to the box office none of the lights was on. The Cinema in Santa Ana is closed tonight due to technical difficulties. I feel like throwing someone out the air lock and watching their eye-balls explode. On a lighter note. Jessica bought Firefly today. She's becoming a browncoat more and more with each passing day.

One-third complete! Shameless fanfic promotion within!
Tuesday, 31 January 2006 06:18:15

Well, the madness of King Chris continues with the third in the newly named "Tales Series." Hey, you come up with a better name for it. I'm tremdously proud of this one. I think that I've gotten Mal down very well here. Definitely better than I did River, but hey, River's hard to nail down. Curses, now I feel compelled to play with River again. But I must persevere! I have six other stories to tell, and only so much time to tell them in! In any case, I will now bow to the shameless self-promotion that I promised in the title by telling all those who find this to go and read "No One to Carry Me-Mal's Tale." Then read the other two stories and wait with baited breath for the remaining six. And please, feel free to inflate your ratings as you see fit.

"Show me a River running wild, but don't break this heart."
Tuesday, 31 January 2006 06:46:09

Yesterday, I spent some time in the chat-room. Not an altogether 'shiny' experience (I can't believe I just said that!). Folks were talking about fanfic (now there's a word I hadn't heard before, being Dutch and all). But, I dunno, I got to talk; and there was this one guy who's in the habit of writing this smutty stuff between Jayne and River. Now see, I don't like that. Not one bit. Now, don't think I'm getting all prudish on you; I'm a man, too; and she's to die for, so beautiful; I get that. But, to me, she'll always be that "creature of extraordinary grace" because of her innocence and frailty. And I care to see that preserved. They should not be messing with River like that (which is never a good idea to begin with, lol). Now, one of these days I will work up enough courage to actually tell these people off. In the meantime, I'm just groggy in my bloggy, so to speak. And I will make it a good point to avoid the dark; after all, 'shiny' is just a place where people bring their own light. Besides, have you seen River's eyes? Those beautiful wide eyes! They are so telling. Nothing smutty, I assure you, is needed for true Love: "The soul that can speak through the eyes can also kiss with a gaze."

I'm a Crybaby now
Tuesday, 31 January 2006 09:45:09

The Serenity movie was what got me into the whole Firefly thing. I'd only seen one or two of the episodes previously. The first time I saw the movie, well, it was good enough to send me out to the store in the middle of the day (which is alot more like the middle of the night when you work night-shifts) and pick up the box set. Finally made it through all the episodes and soaked up everything else I could get my hands on. Read that script, saw the River Tam sessions, even went through a couple episodes with the commentaries on. So I'm hooked. That's a given anyways... :P Tonight was my first day off in over a week, so I wasn't really up to do anything special, and I figured I'd take a break from sketching and such. Sitting around at 2:30 in the morning by myself, nothing on the tv. Figured it would be a pretty good time to go and re-watch the movie now that I know what's really going on and such. Sure, there's a couple things that bother a bit now, that hadn't before. Mal's new suspenders kind of bug me. And was Wash doing laundry or something? What happened to those Hawaiian shirts? Sure, there wasn't as many of those little Firefly moments I'd grown to love these past two weeks, and the lighting was a lot different, but... gorramn... First off, I'm not the sort to generally cry at movies. I shed like a tiny little tear at the very end of the LOTR movies (you know, when Sam comes home, sits in his chair, and say "Well, I'm home...), and for some reason Braveheart got me going a bit near the end. I don't know why, but most movies don't really do that to me. I'm a pretty sensitive artsy guy, but there's likely just enough machismo in me or something. (We're coming up on SPOILER city by the way...) But... literally beginning at Wash's "leaf on the wind" scene to the very very last bit of credits (never noticed the Firefly theme at the very end, that didn't help matters) the waterworks were turned to full blast on yours truly. I was getting a little weepy with Wash dying after his greatest moment. And things were starting to get tense at that "Hold. Hold till I get back" part. But... wow... I could barely see straight by the time the doors open in the hallway and Mal is silhouetted and looking at what's left of his crew. River's fight scene with the Reavers? Forget it, just a bunch of shapes but the emotion got through to me plenty. By the time I got to the funeral scene, I was bawling. Seriously, bawling. Like a baby. Sitting alone in my room in the dark at like four in the am just weeping uncontrollably. We're talking call the weather hotline 'cause a torrential rain is on the way. I'd start to get ahold of myself, and then they'd zoom in on the hologram of Wash turning around and grinning... Don't even get me started on Mal's speech to River at the very very end. I'm choking back the waterworks and trying to say the lines along with him between heaving sobs. The credits are rolling and I'm just sitting there like a two-year-old who just dropped his first ice cream cone in the dirt. Not a pretty sight. I'm not even going anywhere with this. I'm not going spiel on about how someone, somewhere in world of television executives better wise-up and draw out a rock-solid contract for Whedon to do another five years of Firefly. I won't gush and gush about the characters and how good the acting is, and how well-written the show is, or even how adorable Kaylee is. I got a little emotional the first time I saw the movie. Seeing it the second time around, after seeing the episodes and having a firm background in the story, that was an entirely new experience for me. Bawling. Like a baby. If this is what obsession is like, frelling sign me up...

OK the very first 4 are up
Tuesday, 31 January 2006 11:08:46

There what bout 16 total I think...so I'll put 4 up a day in the Blue Sun Room...seems odd Ole CaptBryan postin inna fancy place like that... I need ta know if I should change that ratin on whats bein posted... I think PG is good...I mean I dont mention nuthin about Blue vained throbbers and female Private parts...I kinda figure we already know whats goin on and whats about to happen and everybody has seen human private parts before,at least those of us 13 and over...I kinda like ta drive ya there and let ya draw your own conclusions...That way iffin ya want El Capitian to be Longhaird and fabuloulsy handsome endowed with all the equipment a woman needs then (CaptBryan is blushin) I thank ya for being nice and Honest...hmm... If you want the Cook to be maybe 110lbs. Blonde with Blue eyes Kind hearted with a servant's heart and soul able to light the darkest room and drive shadows from every corner...maybe 8 ta 10 yrs younger than CaptBryan...well then you are correct... The point is you dress'em up and you take'em out and you play with'em ...make them look what how you want...If you wanna know what the Cooks real name is then I do let it slip now and then when Im in the CHAT room... Well as far as postin a new episode each day I'll try... but right now we are very busy and I hope we'll be sailin again by Sunday... please let me know what ya think cause I have ta have input to continue bringin you the finest in an old Pirate over forty life...

Serenity Shafted by the Academy!
Tuesday, 31 January 2006 15:21:26

Well, the 78th Annual Oscar (tm) Nominations were announced this morning, and much to my shock and horror,

Nervous - Organizing things is scary work.
Tuesday, 31 January 2006 17:32:56

Well, I think I'll start blogging today. Tried a few times, mostly failed on those accounts. I'm hoping that the Firefly Ball that I'm planning goes off well enough. I've had the room booked for a while now, and had info about it circulating for months. It's kinda scary when your trying to put something together with spit, love and caution. I want it to succeed, but I'm terribly affraid that the only people to show will be the ones that helped me organized it. Honestly, that would be fine if it weren't for the fact that we've received an endorsement from the Asian American Student Association so that we don't have to pay $400 plus dollars just for the room. On the plus side, I think the ball will be beautiful. I still need to get myself an outfit made, and only about a month left. It's a short month, at that. March 4th will be screaming up on me right fast, I can feel it breathing heavy already.

Juggling without geese
Tuesday, 31 January 2006 19:22:31

*COUNTDOWN TO SERENITY DVD RELEASE: 28 DAYS* So now I'm back at work :disappointed:, after a joyous nine-day break in which I began writing and submitting my first fan-fic, and suddenly I'm having to juggle again - work deadlines vs New Prospects. Luckily I'm managing to fit some work in around the writing (), so it's all good, but progress has slowed somewhat. Talking to my buddy TH, and we started throwing some ideas around for follow-up fics, this time within the Firefly series canon. All the while I'm writing New Prospects, I find myself wanting to add some nifty Wash and Book dialogue, and I can't, waaah! So, coming soon to a Blue Sun Room near you... 'THE BATHGATE MURDERS, PART I'!

More of the same same...
Tuesday, 31 January 2006 21:56:41

Working on Vids again. After the crash yesterday, I did not feel like going back to the Wash video, but turned to a general "Why I love Firefly" kind of vid instead. This time I had the scenes I wanted to use in my mind and already written a kind of preliminary storyboard before starting to look for music. And then I found an Argentinian tango which fits the scenes perfectly. I am really looking forward to this one. I will also use dialog bits from the scenes. I was never able to do that, because my video software was did to recognize the sound when I captured from DVD. I now found an audio extraction software, that allows you to capture the complete audio track from the DVD, chapter by chapter. Even if you are not vidding, this is neat. You can burn the resulting mp3s on a CD and then you have a kind of Firefly audio book, you can listen to while in the car or whereever on an mp3 player. Unfortunately, the audio extraction is rather slow (about 1 h per DVD). So it takes some time to capture all eps. Farscape, the Peacekeeper Wars, was on German TV today (first time, afaik, at least for free TV). I know the Farscape community (including myself) was very upset when we did not get a 5th season, but the mini series was a good compromise and really brings the series to a good ending. It is okay to let something go after that. (Even though I did cry when watching Peacekeeper Wars for the first time). But Firefly? The story is just beginning! There just has to be more to come, surely. I ordered the comic book at Amazon Germany today. They said, it will not be available till March, though. Well, maybe they will surprise me again. (The DVD set was here in less than two days, even though Amazon said they needed about 2 weeks for delivery).

SERENITY's Oscar connection
Tuesday, 31 January 2006 22:22:48

Hey all Well, the nominations for this years Oscars came out this morning, and to no one's surprise, SERENITY was completely shut out. But upon looking closer at the list, one can see a connection to SERENITY that almost makes up for the shut out. Joss Whedon may have written and directed the movie. But the producer of the film (basically the guy that brought everyone that made SERENITY the movie it is together in one place) is Barry Mendel. Even though he's not as well known as say Jerry Bruckheimer, Joel Silver or Scott Rudin, he's produced some high quality (RUSHMORE, THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS) and big grossing (THE SIXTH SENSE, UNBREAKABLE) films. And this morning, along with Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, he got nominated for the Best Picture Oscar for co-producing MUNICH, another really powerful and great film. So while it may not be SERENITY officially, it is a sort of nomination by default. So if there's one flick to cheer for at the Oscars, it's MUNICH, although I have to admit that I wouldn't mind seeing BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN win 8 for 8. I dunno. Maybe if Joss had Jayne or Mal sodomize Simon, maybe it would increase the films chances for Best Picture. Wouldn have at least brought more publicity.
