Yet another Firefly filk gem I just found on the browncoat forum - The Ballad of Joss
Monday, 01 August 2005 07:02:33
Well, some time has past since my last entry, let alone an actual post by yours-truly. Work has reduced me back to being a lurker again...or the Big Cat Flame Warrior persona that I have somehow managed to become...Bottom of my signature for those curious. Some disheartening and interesting things have happened around here lately, of which I suppose provides an update to a few old posts I've made in the past. Though, strangely enough, good has come as well. Starts, I suppose with my sister "moving up here". Which consisted mostly of her telling me that she was on her way up here for a week straight. And by that I mean that she would say that, and a few hours call and say the same thing agian. After that week, I've heard nothing since...should I be disappointed, I don't know. *Insert Diety here * knows that I am in no way surprised by any amount of hurt that any relative can sling my way, family is a laughable comcept to me. My family seems to think that family means "I can say and do whatever I like, and you can't say anything about it." So my attitude in return is "Stuff you, then. Then I get passed up for promotions at work. Not based on issues, knowledge, experience, or disciplinary issues. No no no, I was told all that was spot-on, but simply I did not have enough "face-time". More like not enough "time with your face up my ass". But yet they promote fine people like the one that leaves the building 30 minutes BEFORE his shift ends and has his girlfriend clock him out 45mins AFTER his shift ends, and has to be physically restrained from assaulting three employees.
Monday, 01 August 2005 07:19:43
To continue from Part 1... I have since realized that it is nowhere near worth being promoted there, since essentially I have to: 1) Be a corporate Sell-out, 2) Give up any notion whatsoever of having my own opinion, 3) Never, ever, ever, speaking the truth again, or 4) Ever having a nose of any color other than brown. Followed immediately by: My landlord is not renewing the lease on our house. I think the greedy bastard wants to sell the house, but isn't telling us. He also refuses to talk about any possibility of renewal. And yes, we've paid the rent, no, the house and yard are not trashed. We've taken care of the place. So, with all that crappy stuff, some good has arisen. I am going into business with a friend mostly installing networks and security systems to businesses. Good money at that...We have a few jobs already in which the bring-home will be around 2k for myself alone. Not to mention the residual income of tech support and "house calls". And, it seems that we miiiight just be able to qualify for a first-time homebuyers loan so we can actually BUY a house, rather than rent one. We should know about that in the next few days. So....an interesting time, yet, it seems that someone/something/whatever you believe in "has my back". Amazing what a little clarity of mind and a willingess to let the winds of change do their work will do for ya. Sorry for boring everyone with MY life stories, I am sure that news of greater import are available simply a remote-click away...

It's not about your hips, your lips or your finger tips. It's about your content. (ok I totally stole that thought from some one but I'm making it my own today :p )

got the afformentioned new star wars book the other day. i'm about a fifth of the way through it and so far i am impresed. if anyone has read any of the New Jedi Order books then they will love The Joiner King. from what i have read it's great. covers alot of stuff that was left unfinished after Star By Star. also, the dialogue for Han Solo is the best i have read in print so far, it reads just like something one would expect Han to say.

Most of you realise that I teach high school English. In watching Firefly over and over and over again, I've realised that you can learn a whole heck of a lot about teaching from watching Mal. Now I have it listed out here as a cursory list in no real order. I want input from you guys about other things you've noticed and better ways to phrase stuff on the list. The Malcolm Reynolds Teaching Method: 1. I am the captain and, no, you can't run this ship. 2. You all got on this boat for different reasons. 3. Hold the crew to high standards. 4. Rule hard, but rule fair. 5. Got something to say, say it to my face. 6. Honesty - Always shoot straight. 7. Exploit the blurred lines. 8. Everyone on the boat is part of the crew. -teamwork 9. If you goof it up, admit it. Preferrably before we find out on our own. 10. You can only rely on yourself. 11. Piss me off too much, I got no problem shoving you out the airlock. That's all I got so far...thoughts? Additions? Please?!

Well, forget my hope of performing "The Ballad of Joss" at the Alamo Drafthouse's Firefly marathon. They turned me down. Three thousand listens in a week, and they turn down a free performance. :banghead: *sigh*

You know you have it when your online looking at pages you've already looked at a hundred times and they haven't changed. When you get snippy when people try'n talk to ya while you are staring at a blank doc. You've conquered the highest level of minesweeper. And you can't even think of anything, boring or otherwise to write in your ship's log... Maybe there is hope. Enough of mine sweeper I'm moving on to tetris...

Yes, still waiting...and a little impatiently too. I've tried to content myself with watching the series repeato-vision style, but I'm getting to the stage where I can say all the lines in my head before they're said on screen. Probably not a good thing. Also, after reading Harry Potter 6 and knowing I now have to wait another two years before numero 7 appears, waiting is quickly becoming my arch nemisis-es-ies...enemy. If only I lived near enough to a comic book store to get my Serenity comic, or the June issue of Angel, I'd be a little less spazzy. Until then I'll settle with posting somewhat rage-filled logs. Enjoy! Also (for the Buffy fans), did ya'll know Dawn's crossbow killed Miss Kitty Fantastico?!

So I'm sitting here, doing fan fic speculations on the IM with my pal, when I get this call. It's my sister, I know this cuz she has her very own ring. She doesn't say hello, she says, "Go downstairs and stick it in." ok that's an interesting thing to hear come out of your sister's mouth. THen she says, "And no I'm not talking dirty, I'm talking about Firefly." Hee

Starting tomorrow morning mr. & mrs. slayerfan will be on the road to Chicago, IL for the Wizard World Comic Con. Hubby is excited, being the comic book geek he is. I'm stoked to be meeting Andy Hallet (Lorne from ANGEL) and Mercedes McNabb (Harmony from BTVS/ANGEL) No SERENITY cast at this convention but I will be wearing my JOSS IS BOSS button and shirt during the weekend, so that should count for something. Just wanted to share. Hope everyone has a wonderful remaining week! SF

Hooray! The boys decided to wait until after our 3rd wedding anniversary (today, Aug 3) to show up. If they can just wait another 4 weeks or so, we'll get to take them home with us from the hospital, and they won't have to stay in the NICU. Maybe I should stand on my head for the next month.

Hi everybody, I'm on may way to the army. I just have to decrease in the mid-section first to get in (cause, ya'know:fat) i'm very excited, and am looking for a trip to blow what eight hundred dollars i have saved up(or a thousand, i'll have to double check.) You got no idea how hard it is to stay away from junk food. i'm on day three of what i like to call the fruit and tobacco diet. It consist of very little bread, lots o' soup, lots o' fruit, and as many smokes as i can lay my chuby little fingers on. Trust me, it helps. if i want some junk food, i just go smoke. Right now i'm listening to the Family Jewles dvd by ac/dc, basiclly a collection with all their best music from '72 on up. See you on the other side, Wicked Lester
Thursday, 04 August 2005 13:50:55
So, I'm thinking about doing one of those music video things. I have DVD Shrink and ULead VideoStudio 8, all I need to do is figure out how to do it... First stage: find good tutorials and experiment.

{{{{{BIG RED BUTTON PUSH}}}}} COME AND GET ME OFF THIS GORRAM CORE WORLD NOW!!!! Ariel sucks. Tuesday 9AM: arrive for interview for clinical study I'm trying to enroll in, prep for 11:30AM procedure. (insert much sticking of needles here) 10:30AM: Find out Dr. is "a little behind"....uh huh. 10:30 AM -- 4:30 PM (yes, you read that right): Lay on uncomfortable guerney, get ever more annoyed. Husband and mother also getting annoyed, afraid to leave because the staff keeps saying "they'll be taking her soon..." 4:30PM: I threaten to leave if something doesn't happen soon. Mind you, I have had no food or water since midnight. I am a bit surly at this point. This IS an understatement. 5PM: FINALLY go down to cath lab for procedure. Wait there for 40 minutes...... End up having to give me 8 doses of Versed (as opposed to usual 2) to get me to stay under during the procedure (could it be I was just a *little* keyed up? Naaaahhh.....) 7PMish: Finally done and in room. Begging for food! The cruel staff tells me I can't have anything until they pull my arterial line out at 9PM, cause I "might get sick". However, they do relent and let me have some juice. 9PM: OW........I won't go into gory details, but I had this done 2 months ago, and this is by far the worst part of the whole gorram procedure. I was NOT looking forward to this. They have to pull a tube out of your femoral artery and then apply massive pressure for 30 minutes or so until you stop bleeding. I ended up upside down when my blood pressure started dropping (I TOLD them that would happen, but nooooo, no one wanted to believe me....) They also gave me morphine which doesn't set well with me...made me very agitated and hyper, didn't seem to do a damn thing for the pain. (also made me sick all day yesterday!) 10:30 PM: I FINALLY get to eat!!!! I occupied myself by watching Firefly eps until I wound down enough to sleep. Spent yesterday AM trying not to get sick (didn't work....), finally begged enough for something for nausea, and they gave me phenergan which made me verrrrry sleepy. Managed to finally bust out of there about 2PM, went home and crashed until about 8PM. Managed to talk hubby into getting me a veggie pizza for dinner, at least! So, Here I am....home, not exactly comfortable, but doing ok. I can lift my Bodyguard into my lap, but that's about it. No driving until the weekend, so I'm stuck here till then. Unfortunately, my back is killing me sitting up in my office chair, so until Hubby hooks up the wireless network tonight (I will insist on it! -- I'd do it myself, but I can't get up and down off the floor easily right now), I'm probably not going to spend a whole lot of time here, or only in spurts. Oh, they did end up putting in one more stent above where the other 3 were (area of 60-70% blockage), and found a small vessel that they just didn't feel was worth trying to do anything with -- too small to stent, but not big enough to worry about. Probably what was causing the abnormal result on the stress test. If I get accepted into the clinical study, I have to have another one of these ruttin' procedures in about 18 months ....sigh .... but if I can get the meds (hopefully I won't get the placebo), it might just be worth it.

at last we can watch the firefly episodes in europe, too. maybe it even at the same time arrives on big screens...
Thursday, 04 August 2005 21:44:08
Do you remember that robot movie? You know, it was out in the early 80s. Rememeber?! Argh. I have scenes from it running thru my brain. Andy Kaufman....and....oh jeepers....Peters...Bernadette Peters. What's the name?
Thursday, 04 August 2005 22:16:30
Today, was registering a domain name that contained the word "dingoes", had a momentary spelling brain-is-missing moment, so exercised my well honed paranoia to use dictionary.com to verify the spelling, which produced:
din·goes A wild dog (Canis dingo) of Australia, having a reddish-brown or yellowish-brown coat.
and immediately thought "your coat is kinda a... brownish color".

Well, that should be painfully obvious shouldn't it? However, this is the internet, and you can't see me...Not that any of you would ever want to. I'm coming to the end of my wife's two week vacation. We're not entirely sure that should she return, she'd be staying (again.). But, she is going to return. She just might not be staying. Either way, I thought I'd take advantage of the situation (IE, children being elsewhere) to write a little fanfic, and to do it butt ass nekkid... Hey, its what I do. I'm not going to piss and moan to impending loss of my wife...at least, not yet. Will she/won't she. Frankly, after a certain amount of time, I get tired (and I mean physically tired) of wondering about this shit. So... In case anyone was wondering, I'm not advertising my fanfic. I'm actually not to sure about the one I'm writing right now. I just wanted to let everyone know that I am writing, in fact, sans clothes. Just the kind of guy I am. Think I'll go drink heavily. In an edit (and yes, I'm sober...It's Thursday for cryinoutloud!) I went to see Sky High today, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I mean, Bruce, Kurt, and Farva in the same movie!!! Hell yeah! Actually, I did enjoy it quite a bit, but its made for the family, so nothing to edgy in it. It was a lot of fun. I need fun.
Friday, 05 August 2005 06:18:49
Stardate blah blah blah. I see log, I think Captain Picard. Why is that? Any how the Captain, Captain Tooken let's call him today, is being an ass. I'm thinkin' mutiny. Or maybe just a good crack on the head. Why is it that he feels the need to be so tyrannical? Does he want the crew to prefer the days he doesn't return over the days he does? *sigh* oh well, not to be done for it. He is the Captain and I'm rutting stuck with him. Must go swab the deck now, and see to the galley.

In the back of my mind, I was always worried about "Serenity." I was afraid of sitting in an empty movie theater come September 30th, hearing crickets and wishing people understood what I (and everyone on this website) understands. Well, today, I went in search of Serenity #2. A comic book store with a great selection, Borders and the mall were all sold out. The clerk at the comic book store said they'd sold out of both issues the first day. Now I'm even more worried about September 30th. Worried that I won't get a ticket! ;-D

I'm feeling a tad miffed, and I'm not sure where to focus my frustration.
Saturday, 06 August 2005 01:12:34
Yeah I've been a little frustrated lately. I haven't been doing too well in math class, which annoys me because I do pretty good in everything else without much effort at all. Not to mention the fact that if I receive less than a C in the class I get to go to this really cool thing called an Academic Review Board, where all the officers in my unit get to yell at me all at once, and they will be sure to notice that I've packed on a few pounds (20) and am surely out of regs. So I was going to blog my problems away all crothcety like. I may as well do it here cause if I start doing it to my wife she'll punch me in the face. Then I started going through some threads and noticed a little discontentment about this that and the other so I thought to myself, "Self, you don't need to be heapen your problems on anybody else right now...they probably have problems enough themselves. Why don't you just do what you used to do and shoot some hoops 'til you feel better." So I responded to myself, "Self," I said, "you're pretty smart." So dish me the rock, there's a hole that it needs to be taken to. Droppy

[x-posted to various locations] Well folks, we're less than a month to Dragon-Con. I hope every is working on their costume and/or has it done already. (I'm in the former category). * There was a slight miscommunication with the parade staff due to a hard-drive crash on their end. That issue has been resolved, and the Browncoats are confirmed as registered. * Due to overwhelming preference, we will be going with banner design #2 (

I ordered Finding Serenity via the link conveniently placed on the left column of the home page (support fff.net!) on Saturday. I received the damned thing yesterday. And that's
Sunday, 07 August 2005 14:55:22
I know there's been talk of a Serenity video game and I'm all for that so long as it's for a PS2 or something, not the computer. But let's look back at a classic...Nintendo's Gunsmoke. Now this was a great shootemup with terrific spaghetti-western music. 8-bits of six-shootin' glory!

I just saw the dukes of hazzard, and it's pretty much the same as the tv show. They didn't change a thing. I loved it, with the daisy dukes and all. mmmmm.... Legs. THat guy who played cooter in the origional, who's now a congressman, said that it's soft porn./ Bullshit!/ It's nothing you could find on broadcast tv. he's just upset that he didn't get a part.
Sunday, 07 August 2005 21:39:02
I've seen Objects in Space many, many times, but I only just noticed something that's very obvious now. When Simon and Jubal first enter the cargo bay, it starts with a close-up of a space suit helmet. When it goes to the full shot, you see the case where they keep the space suits is standing wide open. Means nothing by itself, but it's a huge clue as to what's actually going on towards the end of the episode. It's just one of those subtle hints, like when you just barely see Mal leave his room at the end.
Monday, 08 August 2005 05:54:39
I just finished this really fun riddle that most of you have probably already seen and completed with no problem. It's the one called "Einstien's Riddle" and the question is "Who owns the fish?" The way it works is there are 5 different colored houses with 5 people of 5 different nationalities living in them. The each smoke a different brand of cigarettes, drink a different drink and own a different pet. We are givin all sorts of hints like, "The red house in is the middle." and "the German lives nextdoor to the person who drinks milk." Anyway, I really enjoyed solving this riddle, and I'd like to find more like it. What are these riddles called? I know there are lots of riddles of this nature out there, and I'd like to google it. I keep finding this specific riddle, but no links to more. A little help?

Well, actually my name is not Inigo Montoya, obviously. It's Lance Constable Logan and if you're a Pratchett fan (i.e. a reasonable human being) you know what that means. I am new to this site and just wanted to put up a quick blog to say Hi! Jaylee is my 'ship and I want to encourage/beg/plead/bribe all you writers out there to come over to the dark side and enjoy the magic of Jayne/Kaylee. C'mon you know you want it! I am working on a few things and hope to put them up soon. So, Hiya! -Lance Constable Logan "We're just one big family in the Watch- and when you've been to a few domestic disputes you'll see the resemblence." -Feet of Clay -Terry Pratchett

The final SEBC DragonCon Prep meeting will be held on Sunday, August 28, 2005 at 2:00pm. It will be held in the Marriott Marquis – lower lobby level, the one where the fan table will be. For those unfamiliar – come in the front door of the Marriott, go down the escalators immediately in front of the concierge desk and look for us. If there is a convention going on we’ll find a corner somewhere out of everyone’s way. The setup on Friday for the booth is not going to require a lot of people. Luckily we have a very portable, professional setup that can easily be put up by 2-3 people (Thanks Rich!). However, we will of course need people to help man the booth during the duration of the con. Please check the website www.southeasternbrowncoats.org to sign up and send in your info to help out. If you are unable to sign up for a particular timeslot please stop by the table and we will happily put you to work! On Friday, the Shindig is scheduled from 10pm to 1am. We will need people to help setup as we only have about 20 minutes or so to setup after the last panel that is held in the room. We need a few teams with an organizer for each of the following: Chairs – Lead: CL_Techie (Parson) csteinisme (Carla), Serenity’s Dad (Tim) NEED ONE MORE VOLUNTEER. They will stack and remove the chairs starting at the back of the room through the front after the last panel ends. Chairs will be stored in Tribe Track room across the hall. Leave about 30 chairs in the room, stacked in a corner. Wall Decorations – Lead: Serenity Mr. cstenisme (Bill), NEED FOUR MORE VOLUNTEERS They will take the wall decorations into the room and hook them up through the drop ceiling. Tall people would be ideal. Greeters/Crowd Control – We are looking for a couple of people to work the entrance line into the door (Greeter/Crowd Control). Someone in costume would be ideal, but not necessary. Could work in shifts. Need pleasant, outgoing personality. Teachers – We are looking for people who know how to play Mah Jong and Texas Hold Em (and possibly Chinese Checkers) and would be willing to mingle through the tables periodically to teach. Clean Up Crew – Lead: Cary Anyone left when the party is over would be appreciated. Please use the sign up email address on our website to let us know what you would like to do! As always, thank you so much for all of the support that we've seen from the Browncoat community. This is going to be a great con! Thanks! Jen

So I went to see "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" today, and as I'm in line at the counter I look up to see the Serenity poster in the lobby! At which point I went a little bit fanatic, asking the clueless ticket girl when they got the poster in and running over to look at it up close in person. (I also came back after the movie to look at it one more time.) Of course, the correlary is that I still haven't seen a trailer anywhere but on my computer or on SciFi last week. But right now I'm focusing on seeing a poster for the BDM in an actual theater! PS. I really enjoyed "Charlie" and there was a trailer for a sequel to "Ice Age" featuring one of my all time favorite saber-toothed squirrels, Scrat. So today was a pretty good day.

Where I live we have a pretty large asian population. In fact, the closest grocery store to me is a Lion Market (totally asian market)...tho the Safeway is just beyond it. Anyway, almost every morning this summer as I've left for work, there's been a group of older asian folk practicing tai chi out in one of the common areas. Now, I don't think I'd have felt this way before Firefly, but the music's very calming and tai chi is incredibly graceful. I seriously think that, in many ways, Firefly's made me a bit more tolerant of asian cultures. I have a little bit more appreciation for it when I see it. -Taylor

So, this is my cherry entry into the World of Firefly. Good, I love the show. Alot. In fact I think the show has really touched me deep, like really, really deep. Ours is a show that inspires humor, hope, and the fact that even if you lose you can always win again, somehow, somewhere. It also shows that no matter what a home can exist for everybody out there, no matter what. Firefly and Serentity are the cutting edge of mature science fiction, something that I suspect many have been searching for.

I just booked tickets to an advance screening in Dublin (Ireland)! I booked them pretty much the second I heard they existed. And rumour has it; one (or more) of the BDHs will be there. But either way, I'm going to see 'Serenity'! Brilliant! It's the final cut of the movie, too. Any Irish Browncoats; the tickets are probably still on sale, so get booking! UGC Cinema, 24th of August. I just hope, if there is one of the BDHs there, it doesn't go like this: :vomit:  Who else here is going to the Dublin screening?
Wednesday, 10 August 2005 11:51:34
Well, now I'm pissed. Just as my life seems to be settling down this happens. What I hear you cry? Well, I can't go to any of the Serenity viewings. I may be overeacting but I believe this is a tale of woe and my god am I going to woe about it! OK. Many moons ago before the first Serenity convention in London not one but 2 special previews for convention attendees took place. Guess what, I couldn't go to them because of money worries and deadlines for my course. Gseat I thought, but at least it isn't finished so I am only missing out on half of something. Then the US had a zillion screenings, ok fair enough I can't even afford a flight so no hard-feelings about that one. Then the Edinburgh screenings and I couldn't afford the flights to Edinburgh - I live in the Netherlands by the way (The flights between the two are crazy prices). Then the London screenings - at last one I should be able to go to but wait, no! Ah yes, I have to work 3 days in August (all the others are optional) - THREE DAYS!!!! One of them is the day after the screening. There is no flight that will get me to work on time for that day! Now what has just happened? I find out that there is a screening less than an hour from my front door and I can't go. Why? My Dutch isn't good enough to use the browncoats.nl board so I can't get tickets to the exclusive Serenity screening in Amsterdam. I need an oven to swallow my head!

"I think all you need is a small taste of success, and you will find it suits you." Monique from Better Off Dead... Lady...I hope you're right! For those of you in the know, or at least, whoever looked at the tag this morning, the staff sergeant test results came out today. And..... The first name called out at the assembly was MINE! With a line number of 514 (they promoted 14,000 out of 30,000 eligible) I am the next Staff Sergeant in the Fuel Shop here at Pope! So, in one month I will no longer be a Staff Sergeant Select, but I will become a Staff Sergeant for the reals! I always wondered how much that fourth stripe weighed... And, for a little background...I joined the USAF in 1993, got out in 1997, rejoined in 2001, and this was my second test for Staff. In eight years total active duty service, I've only been eligible to be promoted twice...this would be the second. For the first time in a very long period...I can't stop smiling!

I finally got my drivers permit. I guess that means i'm not a kid anymore, no matter how much i wish i was. I think the reason i put it off so long was that i kinda wanted to remain a teenager a little while longer.( iknow, i'm 18, but teenager in the "i'm in high school" sense.) aslo, i gots a question: i'm in the process of writing a novel, and am thinking about posting it on my blog, but i'm not sure if that'd be a good idea. (with the theiving and whatnot) so adive would be apreciated. Witnessing the downfall of our Democracy... WIcked Lester(OR W.L. if you wish.)

OK, so I'd planned to start posting "Heart & Soul," a follow-up to "Point of No Return" featuring Inara and Shepherd Book, by the middle of this month. However, it doesn't look like that's going to happen; at least not by that time. Work has been the primary obstacle in keeping me from finishing the story. I'm working on a new TV series, and that's what keeps me from working further. I'm going on vacation in September, and after I get back I'll be gathering cast and crew for a short movie project. So, that's a lot of stuff going on. Way it's looking it'll be after the BDM is released before I get the space to work on a new fic. Sorry! But perhaps this is just as well...By then I'll be even more inspired. I appreciate you guys' patience; hopefully I won't disappoint you when "H&S" is finally posted.

I've started procuring video clips. Plus, a very nice person gave me some music video ideas so I can make them to experiment with Ulead. We'll see how that goes.

I have always found morning enjoyable. Coffee, my cat running amok, the silence from my annoying neighbors. Now I sit here with my Min-Wheats staring me down, daring me to eat them. In this battle of wits, I will win. I know I will. Those blasted mini-wheats do not stand a chance versus my stomach. Now it is almost time for me to hit the showers. Ugh. That means the actual start of the day, not just screwing around on the gorram internet. I can say gorram and people here know what that means. That is awesomeness defined. Anyhow, until next time fellow travelers.

If only I knew how or where to post a recording, I'd let you here my daughter and neice (6 & 4) singing the Firefly theme. My daughter has it nearly by heart, and now It is too cute hear her trying to teath the four year old. She tends to see it all mixed up.

So, the thing I've spent the last 3 hrs working on just went all wonky and I tried to save it and close out of the program, but when I reopened the file, it hadn't saved half the stuff I'd done (this is a common occurrence on our network. No matter how much I complain, no one seems to be able to fix it.) So now I have to go back and redo everything I spent all morning doing. I was so upset I got up, slammed my office door behind me and went in the library and had a right little (internal) temper tantrum and a good cry. Part of my extreme frustration is that I've had very little sleep all week and I'm just exhausted and cranky. And, as icing on my bitter little cake, I broke one of the shells off my cute shell bracelet when I slammed my office door, which serves me right for losing my temper. I think I'll go eat an early lunch and then come back to this, or else I'm liable to put my letter opener through my monitor.

All right people! You heard the man and you know the drill! Also, this blog is rated PG-13 for coarse language! Still here? Thought so! At Work: The SWOSS (That's Star Wars Obssessed Staff Sergeant): I just want to meet Ray Park...That's my big reason for going. And Peter Mayhew...I mean, who doesn't want to meet Chewbacca? manwithpez: (So, you want to get your picture made with Toad? Darth Maul was a pussy! That reminds me of that song from Clerks): CHEWBACCA! HE'S MY FAVORITE WOOKIE!!! At Home: 'lilmanwithpez: I HAVE TO PEE, DATTY! I HAVE TO PEEEE! manwithpez: (Oh! What a little chip off the old block he is!) Go...go,go,go,go,GO!!! At Home Again: daughterlikemother: I think the big TV should be all of ours, and that we all get to say what we watch. manwithpez: (Well, well, well. How the meek have risen. That argument is almost logical.) Well, I think that I bought and paid for this TV, and we're watching Dragonball Z and not Doodlebops! At Work Again: Alex Rico: (In a very heavy Puerto Rican accent) They think because I don't say very much that I am pure. But, I am dirty. manwithpez: (That may be the funniest fucking thing I've heard in my life.) BWAHAHAHAHA!!! Alex Rico: I am a dirty motherfucker. manwithpez: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! At The Library: Library Man: Are you sure that you didn't see that book over there? manwithpez: (First off, I'm not a Card Catalog, and have never made such claims. Second...you WORK here...as a librarian, you're supposed to know where the gorram books are! And third...Aren't you supposed to be a hot chick in glasses who looks like she's about to yank her hair down and drag me behind the stacks, or have I been misled by all that porn?) Yes, it's not there. At Work Again: The SWOSS: So, why don't you think you can sleep at night? manwithpez: (I could tell you, but I won't.) I could tell you, but...it's none of your goddamn business!

So I have been wanting to go/put together a Shindig for the premiere, and have heard through the chat. . .well I guess I should say while perusing other peoples conversations in the chat, that there is a big one in NC. Just wondering who all is going to be there, and when/where the festivities begin. I tried to read through the HUGE thread relating to it. . .but I don't have the patience. So who's gonna be where when? Thanks guys. Oh and my roomate (who isn't on the chat but is Browncoat-worthy nevertheless) will probably be coming too.

I'm afraid I haven't written much in the way of logs lately...er...like not for months. But I have started a blog! I got my very own lame live journal:

Yes. I will admit it. At this point in the summer, as close as we are to the BDM, I am starting to get a bit obsessive about Firefly. Amber and I started rewatching the series and then I think she noticed how much I was talking about it and I haven't seen an episode in over a week now. I'm now following threads on three different boards. Plus I just got done with five different Photoshop jobs for the Blue Sun Room (go check 'em out, they're hi-larious). I've recorded a little piece for the Signal in hopes they'll air it. *grin* I've updated my cafepress store with loads of new t-shirt designs. I'm even working on ways to incorporate Firefly into my classroom. Not so much as "instead of reading this book, let's watch Firefly" but more as "this book deals with this theme, let's analyze another work with this theme". Have I gone overboard? Am I just a bit too wrapped up in all of this? -Taylor

After reading about what's needed to make sure we get a sequel, I started thinking about a rallying song for the sequel cause. Because I was sleep-deprived, I said I'd think about it later, and then I tried to sleep. I really did. But the muse had other ideas. Have I mentioned that my muse is a Browncoat? She only gives me songs about Firefly, despite the fact that I've been trying unsuccessfully to write songs for years. Anyway, the verses need more work before I put this on the Blue Sun Room page, but here's the chorus: Trilogy, trilogy, I want my trilogy, Don’t stop at one, Don’t stop at two, Gorramit, gimme three! Trilogy, trilogy, that’s what I want to see, Someday I’ll own a boxed set Of the Big Damn Trilogy!

Of Mango Lemonade. I can't stop drinking it and it's like $4 a quart. And it doesn't really fit into the weight loss master plan. It's not bad for you, but it's essentially 35 more minutes I need to stay on the stairmaster. And the only reason I'm on the stairmaster is so my butt can look a little more like the cap'n's butt and I too can strut around proudly the next time I find myself naked in the middle of nowhere. That and I really like being in the Navy and I have to weigh a ballerina-like 216 lbs to stay in regs. But back to the subject at hand-Mango Lemonade rocks. Drink Mango Lemonade so I don't have to, my little scrubby bubbles. Droppy

You know, a few nights ago, I was listening to the Beatles Yellow Submarine cd, and then when I got to the "Nowhere Man" Song, I was thinking, huh. Kinda fits Mal, don't it? Wonder if anyone will make it into a song hint, hint. Oh well, just listen to it and you'll see what I mean. P.S. That doesnt go to say that the Yellow Submarine song ITSELF couldn't be altered into something about Serenity...HA! That would be a really wierd song, hehe.

So there I was, a small comic book convention, small indeed. I mean, bloody small. My buddy scoped out the Star Wars figures, I, of course, scoped out all of it for cool stuff. No pictures, I am not that advaced, but the Comic-Con Preview Mal Action figure was at one of the tables $50 being a bit more than I can afford. But I will say that the figure's sculpt looks better than the add at the back of the comic book I just finished (yep, got those too.) I plan on buying these when they come out, if only because my geekness will allow no other route.

So there I am, standing in line at Borders when I see it. The Serenity comic #1, Mal cover. I know that I've already ordered all 3 covers. I know that they'll likely arrive any day. So what do I do? I walk over (almost run, to be honest) and snatch it up. I read it as soon as I got into my car, with a huge smile on my face. And boy, was it shiny! Of course, the next day the comics arrived. But now I have a spare copy to show everyone! I'm not obsessive, I'm dedicated, right?

He probably wasn't making a Firefly reference, but I still laughed when I read the following quote in an article about The King of Queens. It was said by Kevin James, the series star: "It's just a normal family sitcom," James says. "There's no crazy characters we have to add, or stunt casting, to keep this show shiny." I just found it amusing. I hope others do, too! :D *grins*

(This is also a post floating around the forums, ignore one and read the other. I'm just an attention whore) I have just returned home from Memorabilia and have to say it was incredibly enjoyable. I went along with a firefly virgin and a fan, I returned with a wannabe-fan and a fanatic. The Serenity table was possibly the smallest table there but by far the most occupied. People were flocking to it. I got myself some free Serenity matches and I bought a replica of Mal's gun. I couldn't afford it, but what the hey, it's firefly (or Serenity if you prefer (is there any kind of ruling as to what we should be calling the combined Serenity/firefly universe yet?)) The shindig too was lots of fun, loads of new promo pics to see and a bunch of interesting and fun people to boot. I won a signed picture of Summer and the most wonderful woman in the world gave me and a friend the tickets she won to see Joss as she couldn't go. (If this wonderful woman is reading this, I am so very grateful. On a high that cannot be beaten). A few thanks for such a fun day out: The organisers. I don't know who you are by name (apart from Zol) but you guys were fantastic. Kurgen. I don't know if you did anything but win half the raffle but you deserve props for having such a cool name. The woman who convinced us to come to the shindig. The woman who reminded me the name of the band playing was Nickel Creek because that would have driven me mad all night. The guys who graciously allowed us to sit with them beforehand in the foyer/bar area, even if the majority of it was slightly awkward quiet, contemplative silence. The pretty girl going round in/on the wash-o-saurus. You got more balls than me. UIP for providing such cool stuff. I say again, Serenity matches!

Alright, I just went to see it, but the did haul me up on stage during one of the audience interaction parts. The plus side is, I'm getting better about not wetting myself under pressure. The show was hilarious. If you get a chance go see it. It's in San Diego and Minneapolis continuously (I believe) so all you Minneaplaotian browncoats may want to check it out. You know I have good taste. After all,I like Firefly. And Mango Lemonade. But don't take that into consideration if Mango Lemonade disgusts you. I am a man of discriminating, uncomprimising taste. And it helps that no one here knows I'm lying about my taste. D'oh! Droopy

In that lovable flik "Office Space" the monday's would get yer ass kicked if you mentioned it at a construction site. Here, in cubeworld, it would merely get a "wiskey tango foxtrot?" stare. The weekend was good, really good. Bought the Serenity Comic (Mal and Zoe covers, I plan on aquiring the rest) and will catch up on Season 2 Episode 5 of BSG. Man, I need to watch some Firefly tonight. Oh, and if you purchased the BSG Season 1 at Best Buy you got hosed, save for the Serentiy disc. They are releasing a nicer version next month complete with Pilot episode. I hate Best Buy. (Yes, I bought it. D'oh)

I just want to write my thanks to SimonWho (in fact a plaque...or maybe even a statue would be in order): I was suffering from the total lack of an internet browser and he recommended Mozilla Firefox (he even provided a link), and this has been working like a dream! Not only is it an excellent browser, but it hasn't allowed one single advertising 'cookie' onto my computer (I obsessively check cookies, I allow the password info for my websites to remain, but normally I'm removing 5-15 advertising cookies every single time I go online...NOT ANYMORE!). So, Woo Hoo! And Thank you! Like the Mudders, I will put up a statue and come up with a song.

Finally! I spoke to someone yesterday that, when I asked if she knew Firefly didn't give me the "what are you talking about" look. WOW. Made my day. On another note: My folks have watched the DVD set (and have YET to send it back, grrr) and my dad liked it, which says a lot. Back when I was a kid he would comment on how the sci-fi I was reading was not good literature (he only read cop/mystery...still does mostly). So, it was with great satisfaction that I heard he'd watched all the FF episodes and was bummed there weren't any more. Hehehe (yes, I'm rubbing my hands gleefully). My husband is actually asking how many days until the BDH, but I think he just might be poking fun at me. I don't care! He doesn't know it, but after he and I have seen it together I'm going to the movie again (and again) when the kids are in school and he's at work! Wooohooo.

I've almost finished my very first ever music video. Not The Big Idea video, just one that SerenityPunk suggested to me as one she'd like to see. So I thought I'd try it out for practice. As soon as I get it sorted and have uploaded it somewhere, y'all be the first to know. Or near enough, in any case.

I'm staying at my sister's house while my band (The Bedlam Bards) plays at the Washington Renaissance Fantasy Faire, so I took this opportunity to show Firefly to my sister's family. My fourteen-year-old niece has been the most gung-ho recruit. So today I was IMing with a musician friend I converted by teaching her a tune off the sound track (the wedding music in "Our Mrs. Reynolds"), and she told me that she had recruited both of her parents, who are seventy-seven years old! It got me to wondering who the oldest Browncoat out there is. In other news, I was singing "The Ballad of Joss" just after closing at the faire this weekend, and a vendor I'd never met came over and listened with a huge smile. She's one of those many, many devoted Firefly fans out there who doesn't hang out online with other Browncoats.

I'm shattered! I can't handle 3 days of shindiggery... was wonderful meeting Team Random - totally how you expect, although i can't wait for Sam and Hilary to meet up, to see who talks the most!!!! Love ya both  The BBQ was a success (thanx Sean) and the vodka was very easily drunk, surprisingly few chocs eaten and minimal Alan squeeeeeeeeing, i think we found it hard to do all that AND talk!!! Thanx to Dr Evil for doing a wicked CD...you could have put a pic up of yourself so we knew who you were! Brilliant A great time was had by all. Not bad for my first blog Until next time/shindig Everybody needs a stalker...:fork:

I am a fan of Stargate SG-1. On Friday, July 15, 2005 I watched the first episode of season 9. A week later on Friday, july 22, 2005 I watch episode 2. At 6:45 pm I turned on the tv and went to the sci-fi channel. I must of saw the commercial for Firefly 20 times so I thought to my self "This sounds cool" so I watched Firefly. now I watch FireFly and Stargate SG-1 on fridays 6:59 pm-9:00pm. Now they play scenes and behind the scenes footage of Serenity. I can't wait for it to come out. Only 45 days!!!!!

It's a painful process but what the hell, right? I was thinking about what I respond to so fiercely in Firefly. Of course, there's lots of things- Amazing dialogue, so clever and funny and grim the day doesn't feel complete until you've worked a piece of it into conversation and of course characters who weaknesses are almost more endearing than their strengths. But that can't be it, can it? And then I found this quote (I love quotes. I collect them. I am a word whore.) - "I know that every good and excelllent thing in the world stands moment by moment on the razor-edge of danger and must be fought for -- whether it's a field, or a home, or a country." -Thornton Wilder And that's what I love, the fierce, impossible beauty of the fight.

Yeah, all the waiting and agonizing over my soon to be revealed Calc 2 grade appeared to be well worth it. I got a D. Better than an F. I assume it's better than an E. But oddly not as good as a C...a letter which brings us such words as commonplace, caustic and cacophony. I would much rather be delicious, decadent (definition dos) or dashing. Here's hoping you have a downright delightful day. Droppy

Love that episode. I was watching it last night and it got to me that this episode is my favorite. From all the great episodes that Joss had created, Objects in Space imprint all the emotions that you feel through out the show more on you than any other episode. You can say it is because that episode is the last or it could be because of Kaylee being tide up and I would agree with you. However, I must add this to the discussion, I also believe that River finally becoming a member of the crew has something to do with the episode being so great. Through out of the show River is just a girl trying to deal with her daemons, but in this episode, she makes it clear how much she loves all of them and that she does not want them to be hurt because of her. That she will go back to the place that tortured her for so long just so her “family” will be safe. And by doing that she proves that she belongs with them all, that she is one of the crew, that those people are her real family.

The Bedlam Bards, the creators of "The Ballad of Joss" and other great Firefly-tribute music, will be performing at Dragon*Con. When: Saturday night 8-10 pm Where: Marriott Hotel, The Yukon-Rio-McKenzie Room We'll be the featured musicians for the Independent Art Crawl. (More info on that at www.wardragyn.com .) In addition to our Firefly music, we'll be singing about pirates, adventure, dragons, lusty wenches, dusty cowboys, and drinks that make Klingon blood wine look tame. Special D*C Sale: Anyone purchasing one of our albums will receive a FREE Ballad of Joss CD. See you there! P.S. I officially deny the rumors that the Art Crawl Reception is a good place to meet someone who knows the location of free food. It's almost certainly untrue. P.P.S. I just got back from taking my niece on a guerrilla marketing mission; we put up posters in several comic shops around Bellevue, Washington, and picked up a copy of Serenity comic #2 while we were out. My neice suggested that bus stops might be a good place to hang a few posters; I may try that in the future.

“Victory is mine! Victory is mine! Great day in the morning people. Victory is mine!” (Josh Lyman: West Wing, Season 1, Post Hoc Ergo Propter Hoc) SO, my best-ist friend in all the world, Crusty (a Big Damn Wuss) has had the Firefly box set sitting on his shelf since January … Every week or so I ask him if he’s watched it and he say “noooo” (in a kinda winy way) and follows it up with some stupid excuse like “I’m working through Farscape”… So we had a wedding to go to at the weekend which I was slightly nervous about (my ex with whom I lived for 5 years was the groom (hey, I dumped HIM ‘cos of the whole, looking like a pig in a wig thing! Me, shallow?)) Crusty came round to stay the night before and since he had nowhere to go (the TV’s in my bedroom) I forced him to watch the pilot… We went to the wedding (which wasn’t as bad as I’d feared – ex has now become pretty much all Weeble – for those that don’t know, this is pretty much EXACTLY what he now looks like:

Because of a mistake, partly my own, partly the comic book store's, I missed out on all three covers of Serenity #2. I have the Book cover and the Zoe cover, but I'm missing the Kaylee cover. I asked the comic book store to call me if they do get another copy of it in, but I'm doubtful. Unless Dark Horse plans a re-print of #2, then I'm hopeful. But since I haven't heard any news of that, I'm stuck searching the city, the province, and possibly the United States. I've already popped into the other comic place I sometimes go to at the university but the guys were sold out. There are other comic stores in the city, but they're all nowhere near me so I need time to phone around later. I'm now considering checking out the comic shops in Edmonton, and yes, I'm even considering Warp 1 despite how they treated out Captain. But I'm not sure if it will come down to that. Besides, I have no way of getting to Edmonton. I have thought of bribing my sister, who's heading up next week, but I don't think she would have the time to check for me. So onto our neighbours to the South. I'm Las Vegas bound in under a week and the price of comics in the U.S. is usually cheaper than up here in Canada. With the exchange rate, I'm still saving money. Thanks to some links from the Dark Horse website, I've found a comic store by the hotel I'm staying at. There's no guarantee that the store is going to have it, but I might as well check it out. Can't be gambling the whole time I'm in Las Vegas. And if none of these works, I guess there's always eBay.

i would like to point a few things out as a southern gal. y'all is a contraction between you and all. two words are not needed in the english language but then the people who use this term on a regular basis (like myself) don't really care about that. basically the 'vous' form in french or well, we won't get into the duplicity of latin. there is a contraction ('yall' would cry itself to sleep at night), and it goes between the y and the a. thank you. . . . now in the wider 'verse i'm sure there is room for interpretation! *wink* i finished "what went wrong: the clash between islam and modernity" (i didn't even know 'modernity' was proper english!) today only because i made up my mind about the pez dispensers. jayne's head is sporting with a certain hat w'all know and love: yellow 'supposed to taste like bananas' (gwen has forever scarred this word for me) kaylee and simon: grape dimatap (did anyone else drink this stuff as a kid?) wash: orange river, book, and inara: cherry mal and zoe: the mixed pack of yellow 'supposed . . .', orange and cherry tonight i think i will meditate on the songs that make me think of firefly. so far i've got *"our time is running out" by muse *"shh" by frou frou *"second sight" by placebo * and in a weird way "judy and the dream of horses" by belle & sebastian all for river. i wonder if "come fly with me" (sinatra or bublé) would be to cliché for wash . . . comments ideas welcome! signing off.

I'm reading a book right now that deals with humanity's first encounter with aliens... in Arizona, in 1881. It has stagecoaches, Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday, gunslingers and stagecoaches. It also has alien beings, advanced space humans, all kinds of cool sci-fi stuff. Reading it reminds me a lot of Firefly, but the western stars - Earp and Holliday and the Clantons - don't know about the aliens. If anyone's interested, the book is "Frontier Earth" by Bruce Boxleitner (yes, Captain John "Scarecrow" Sheridan from Babylon 5...) and it's available at Amazon.com for thirty-seven cents. A NEW copy is thity-seven cents. Just thought I'd point it out to the cool peeps here *G*

My lack of sleep isn’t helping my brain. It hurts. I can’t tell if it hurts because of the lack of sleep or because I’ve gone mad. The last few weeks I’ve been thinking about things in a very different way. Odd. Is it the sleep or is it a mental snap? I don’t know. Now then, I have evil yo-yos and I can’t be held responsible for what they may do… (anyone see SimonWho’s stash of amber liquid? Pass it this way if you do)

(This is not really a blog, just a ramble about Firefly). Imagine you're sitting with a group of Buffy fans. To your left, a couple of people are discussing what diabolical plans The Annointed One must have. To your right, someone is showing off his fan made copy of Sid the Dummy. Someone has just been speaking about how Angel will get killed off. There's no mention of Spike or curses, Anya or Dawn, Tara or Faith. Because you're sitting in a parallel universe where Buffy was cancelled after season 1 (damn you WB!) and all they have is the first season to know the show by. Think of how much they missed out on. Granted, they were spared season 6 and 7 but still... no Mayor, no Angelus, no Hush, no Once More With Feeling, heck, no Angel the Series. Now imagine the same group of people doing the same thing in our universe. Would we not be puzzled as to why they were obsessed about the trivial ("No, of course Sid the Dummy isn't coming back") and misguided vision of the future ("Angel was just about to become a regular, they wouldn't kill him off.") I sometimes wonder about this because if there were seven seasons of Firefly, who would have a Jayne hat? Who would be discussing spending thousands of dollars to save a prop seen in one early episode? Would we still be saying Shiny or Big Damn Heroes? Who can say? I just wonder about these things sometimes (then curse the networks that kill our beloveds again and again).

Recently I read with great joy the "Looking for a new book to read" thread. Now that the kids are bigger, I'm reading again and that thread has given me much for thought. I started posting this there, as it concerns a book, but then I thought it was just too much rambling to really go there, so here it is. I'm actually casting a big NO vote for a book. It's a classic, so I'll probably hear from some folks on this one. I just finished George Orwell's "1984." I'd read it in high school and remembered it as being dull and depressing. I read it back before 1984 when communism was still a force in the world. Well, now that I'm all grown up (ha) I thought I'd give it another try. After all, I could have been mistaken. Man, was I wrong--about being mistaken that is. I have never had to flog myself so much to get through a book. (I guess I've just been lucky to pick good books.) Well, okay, the first quarter of it was interesting, which kept me going for the rest of the book, wading through Orwell's political treaties and an increasingly numbing plot. There were times I could only read two pages before my brain shut down, which is not how I read (you can't get me away from a book once I'm into it). I suppose the book was a product of it's times. And, yes, there are a lot of things going on in the book that you could say are happening now. However, that doesn't make it good literature. I'd like to thank perfessergee for posting Vernor Vinge's "A Deepness in the Sky" on the book thread. What a relief to be reading it! I'm also hoping some Firefly books start showing up out there in the 'verse!

Hi I was thinking of writing fan fiction. Is it fun? easy? should I create a character? I heard people tend to not like it when people create characters.

So I was leaving my wife's work, after bringing her some dinner ('cause I'm an awesome husband), and what do I see as I make my way onto the 805 south? The moon. Yellow and twice as big as it should be it stares at me through my windshield. Tempting me. Taunting me. "I dare you," it says. "I don't think you have the cajones to get your butt up here. You don't have a hair on your ass." Careful Moon. I've never been one to back down from a challenge. P.S. I burned my finger real bad in the middle of this blog making mango bars for my wife 'cause she's had a rough day and 'cause I'm an awesome husband. P.P.S. What is it with me and stuff made out of Mangos. P.P.P.S. I'm serious Moon. Don't make me come up there. Droppy

I removed both of my last two blogs because they were offensive to one party or another. It is not right for me to broadcast our problems on the internet...It's one of the things that has irritated me about Bryan and now I am no better. TWG---I'm sorry for my rash comments. I love my husband very much...I don't think it is right to flirt with other people when they or you are married. I hope you and Jake have a great life together. As for everyone else..thanks for your comments and critisism. Bryan is a wonderful man....I love him very much. Kudoos to all of you for caring so much about him. I will not be posting anymore...It just seems to cause me more pain. I don't think I can handle anymore. I wish all of you the best of luck...I hope you all have a great time at the movie premier.

My name is Koffee and this is my first blog ever so please bare with me. I know I should write something interesting, but I don't know if my life is really going to be that interesting to anyone else. I have been dealing with a lot lately that a few of the wonderful folks on the late night chat know about. I am divorced, I have been laid off from my job(permanently), I am in love with a man (I'll call him Harley) who does not love me, but still sleeps with me (and his "friend" who I'll call O) once on a while, and I have a "friend with benefits" (I'll call him Yano) that keeps me sane in between times with Harley. Anyhow, my sanity is in jeapordy. Yano has decided that our friendship will no longer include the "benefits". I feel like I am at my wits end. I have no job offers yet. My severance pay will run out the 15th of October. I am going mad in a house all alone every night. And now I don't even have that special time with Yano to look forward to. And I have been drinking more than I used too so I'm sure that isn't a good thing. But I want to thank my friends here for putting up with me and listening to be bitch about my crappy life. Koffee out...

Tomorrow I leave to go home for vacation! Well, it's a "vacation" from paid work to go home to help with harvest. I always take the week that Mom starts school off to go home and be harvest cook and gopher, and occasional truck driver. I LOVE going home. In a perfect world that's where I'd be. Don't get me wrong, I have a good job that I enjoy with a great boss and coworkers. But it's not where my heart is. I've been living in this town for 9 years (13 if you count going to college), and I still don't consider it home. Unfortunately, financial considerations dictate that that's how it's going to be for a while. (Unless one of y'all wants to marry me and take over the farm? I'm a good cook, but a horrible mechanic. Me and machinery don't get along too well. Kind of a drawback for being a farmer. :crap: But cows and I get along very well together. Well, unless they're Angus. Red Angus are okay, but I'm not very fond of the black ones. Okay, tangent over.) The point is, I'm going home for ten wonderful days! And as we only have a dial-up connection at home that ties up the phone line, I probably won't be around here very much. And I won't miss you at all! Well, yes I will, but I'll be having a good time.

Well, a whole lotta blogs ago I talked about this first grader that my wife observed at the school she'll be teaching at this school year. Now, just to recap, Mrs. Outlaw just got her credential and is also teaching second grade. She came home raving to me about this student who is a dead-ringer for River! Right down to the making pencils talk to each other and wearing of combat boots. Well, second grade starts on Tuesday and the missus got her class list the other day. Yup, this girl's on it! :D Now, I won't even give away her name or anything...just politeness and all, but even syllabically it matches up with ri-ver Tam! So yesterday she gets home from work and tells me she has a surprise. I oddly ask if it's in her pants, she says yes, but it's not what I instantly thought! She was given "River's" ID card from last year to give back to her parents, so I got to see it. She totally looks like River! The hair...yup. The face...kinda. I know Mrs. Outlaw will take some pictures throughout the year. I will be very interested to see the other similarities. So long as she doesn't start reading minds in class, however, it's all good.

What is it with weddings that bring out the evil in people, now my brother, has always been arrogant, big headed and generally unlikeable. if he was in a room of 20 people he is the one you would hear above all others... So now some woman has agreed to marry him, my feelings towards her shall remain unspoken, for now But this wedding is going to give my poor mother heart failure. Scott is so ungrateful and unthinking, firstly she has made the wedding cake, including making all the iceing flowers and sprays etc, its stunning, my brothers reaction, 'well its better than i thought it would be I suppose' I have never been so shocked in my life.... He has continued in this im going to be an arse kind of way over my children and their roles in this wedding. Chloe is to be bridesmaid. which is fine, beautiful dress, lovely shoes, stunning, scott although seems to forget chloe has CHD and only has half a working heart, cannot walk very far, and needs to sit down or she will fall down. he tried banning me from bringing her wheelchair, told me she was going to HAVE to walk down the aisle and stand behind them until the hours ceremony is over, then stand around for another 2 hours for photos. you can imagine my reply to this. it had swear words in it and was a round about way of saying, as if!! He is insisting that she comes to julies house on the morning of the wedding to get dressed, but im not allowed to stay around, so basically i have to drop her off in a house full of strangers who have no idea why this little girl might suddenly go blue and need to sit down. he is also insisting that i go up a day early, drive 2 hours to get to our hotel, then drive another 30 minutes to the church so chloe can be at the rehersal, all this after school. she dosnt need to be at the rehearsal! then we get to alex, who they havnt even bothered to hire a suit for, and refused my offer of hire for him. they got him a shirt and trousers, and want him to be an usher. alex now is left wondering why he is the only male without a suit, and i cant help but wonder the same thing, but of course scott is very evasive when i ask. I know this is his wedding day, but does he have to be so unreasonable all the time, im also taking our grandparents, who are very very old and he is expecting them to wait around afterwards for photos, without chairs. Im stressed out, he had my mother in tears over this rehersal business. I know he wants it to be a perfect day, but nothing is ever perfect and sometimes you have to accomodate other peoples needs and think of someone other than yourself. im seriously considering not even going at all. Im going to stop now before i bust an artery myself. Oh add to the fact he told me what I would and would not wear to his wedding, now that bugged me. ive got a suitably disgusting wedding type outfit that i hate, that he will surely love. but you know, ive still got time to customise it with some punkish accessories.

First I apologise to any americans i may have offended with my choice of insults yesterday now to continue Ahh yes the whole sit down like adults theory, tried it, mor than once, and got told that i was just being awkward, and that 'her family' havnt complained at all, and that 'her' family are this that and the queen of sheba. He simply will not listen. the thing with scott, is he was the eternal playboy, different girl each week, and bragged about it. thought it was cool, one time he had nowhere to go at christmas and didnt want to come to mum and dads, and he got himself a single mother girlfriend and moved in with her, dumping her once she had given him what he wanted. theres an idea of the sort of man he is So ive taken the decsion to get through the ceremony, the way i want to, wether he likes it or not. get through the speeches and the arrogancy of him leave when the party starts, go back to our hotel room, order room service and a movie and chill. see in contrast to all this one of my oldest friends is getting married in october, and again chloe is bridesmaid, gooorgeous dress, lovely, and alex is page, he has the most stunning black suit, ivory waistcoat and ivory cravat (Alex has White blonde hair, so just imagine it) She has arranged that they walk down the aisle and have seats waiting at the front, chloes wheelchair is being decorated by the balloon peoples, and she has said that if chloe needs to be in her chair for photos then its absolutely fine, she is so accomodating and refreshing, im looking forward immensely to hers. oh and she says im to bring a friend, whereas my brother wont let me bring a guest. So yes I am going to grit my teeth and get on with it, i was just so mad with him yesterday for upsetting my mother.

Well, we all had a bit of a surprise yesterday! Amber and I were in her classroom working (for more hours than I care to count) to finish setting it up and our best friends were over as well as her family. Now, I love a nice small neighborhood where the kids and parents can swing by and see where their new classroom is going to be, so imagine our surprise with our little "River" shows up on her bike with her dad in tow! Now, we'd already shared our River theory with everyone else there because we'd all watched Firefly. But it was so cute to see her come in and look around the class all floaty-like and talk with Amber and say hello to everyone and talk about how she'd like to have a desk around others instead of off by herself. It was really neat! And I am totally convinced that there's something special and spacey about her. But, like I said, as soon as she starts reading people's minds and stuff. I'm gonna be just a bit creepified!

Well, finished and posted another bit of Simony slash... replaced the name of the lover with pronouns, so as to protect the guilty. This story isn't a sequel to either of my previous bits. It's just something that popped out of my brain and refused to go away til I wrote it. Frickin' brain! Next stop, pornsville! I hope... and btw, that vomit emoticon? REALLY gross.

SO it was my 28th Birthday Sunday, Awsome. My wife gave me a great party, and I got some cool stuff. I also bought cool stuff for me. I am only 4 hrs from Atlanta and Dragon-Con. This sucks as I do not have the dough to go, I want to get my Serentiy comics signed by the cast. IN such a short time that show has made such an impact on my life, I forgot that a Television show could still do that.

It's always depressing when you realise that people's live keep going on without you. I've had a very busy summer full of many boring complicated things that I won't go in to but I have kept checking in here occasionally to see what's been going on. I am always astounded at how much I have to catch up on even if I'm only gone for a few weeks. I don't like feeling out of the loop but things are looking up. I've finally moved house after months of faffing around (you'd be stunned at the amount of stuff I can pack in to one room). The summer holidays are nearly over which although means I am in serious panic mode about finding a job it also means I no longer have to share a computer and can apend as much time as I like here, catching up on all I've missed in the past three months. I've also just found out that Jewel Staite is coming to Serenity2 in London which has made my month let alone my day. So off I go to face what seems like an endless grind of jobcentres and websites and phone calls. Anyone know of any vacancies for Nursary Nurses in or around Canterbury, Kent? No. Thats what I keep being told. Never mind though, I'm keeping positive, Serenity's coming out soon and as long as I have enough money for that all will be ok. I mean, who really needs to eat, or have heating, or a TV, or petrol, or a phone, or....
Tuesday, 23 August 2005 04:05:27
Hey, all... just wanted to let everyone know that Jewel Stait will guest-star on this Friday's episode of Stargate Atlantis according to TV Guide. She's playing a character named Ellia (and it may involve prosthetics if she plays who I think she does). Just wanted to let people know! :D

I thought I'd share this with you all-- A few months ago, I started BluegrassBrowncoats.net as a base for Kentucky FireFly fans and it seems to have done pretty well so far. For further exposer, I've started a little Cafepress store with a few items. There is some BluegrassBrowncoats stuff and some pretty cool "Serenity" items that are there now. I'm planning on adding new products very soon. The store

So upon the recommendation of another browncoat, I grabbed a book from the library that Bruce Boxleitner wrote called _Frontier Earth_. Yeah, it's a bit of an SF Western mix. Definitely not like Firefly at all. The one thing I definitely have issue with are writers who create alien species and then have them either named in really bizarre ways or have them talk without bothering to really translate it (even by inference) for the readers. There comes a point where no matter how many consonants you run together or however you in'terr'upt the word with apostrophes, it just becomes less believeable to the reader. I need a buy in...and being able to read and pronounce a major character in a book or to understand what he's saying is a major buy in. I can't understand this guy and Boxlietner really doesn't build the suspense the way he could. But I'm gonna finish the book because I'm told it does pick up a bit after the first 100 pages. Am I the only one who feels this way or have I been spoiled by not having aliens in Firefly?
Tuesday, 23 August 2005 21:58:52
Not much of a test, actually. I just haven't posted in nearly a month and was interested to see if I'd been missed around here. Not that I expect I was ... things seem to have continued quite swimmingly in my absence. Save for the apparent impending divorce of ManWithPez and his wife. Looks like I missed somethin' juicy. Oh well. Not to comment on something I know absolutely nothing about (other than the apparent impending divorce part), but I wish all involved the best. Having never been directly affected by divorce, I can't imagine what they're going through. That is, of course, assuming that all of this is actually going down and I didn't just dream it. Guess someone needs to get me up to speed on what's been up lately. And, if you've been missing my ongoing fanfic, take your hand off your mouse and slap yourself in the face because you're probably the only one. If it turns out you and I aren't the only ones, I might try to find the time to continue it. Problem is, I think I underestimated how much I'd enjoy the job I have now. I seem to be less interested in wasting time here. Anyway, updates. Please.

So, it’s currently 11.07 a.m. which means … um, let me do the math here … nothing plus nothing (plus a couple a hours) equals …uh huh …. 9 hours and 8 minutes … I have exactly 9 hours and eight minutes, no wait, 7 minutes, to go before I see the BDM …. AM so excited I may pop .. but what if my credit card doesn’t work??… What if there is a bomb somewhere in London and the tube stops working??… what if there’s the wrong kind of rain on the train tracks??… What if my friend who’s flying back from New York this morning just to see it with me is so damn GROUCHY that I stab him with a broken beer bottle, get arrested and am thrown in clink before the film starts??? All these things COULD happen … Am just a bundle of nerves … Mostly I just keep thinking: “must lower expectations!! Must LOWER expectations!!” What if it isn’t as good as everyone says and my long LONG wait ends in horrific disappointment?? … NAH! SO NOT GONNA HAPPEN!! Actually, is kinda nice that am going to see the BDM with the friend who gave me my first Firefly DVDs and told me to watch it – there’s closure for ya!! Hurrah, now I only have 11 hours and 2 minutes to wait ….

Or so Wash said in my dreams last night. Maybe that didn't come out quite right. I was having Firefly dreams last night. The most vivid part I can remeber is Simon and Wash hotboxing Inara's shuttle. While I'm observing from a third person perspective, Wash is calmly speaking, in english, about his relationship with Zoe (they were having a disagreement about kids - big surprise). When I switched to Simon's first person perspective it was remerkably different. Rather than hearing the calm english, Simon was hearing angry chinese interspersed with Tone Loc lyrics. It would have been nice to stick around to see what was going on, but I had to wake up early in order to get to an 8 am class...a week early. Droppy

. . . to piss off a pregnant woman or new mom. 1) Offer to come help after the baby is born. Proceed to do so by holding and rocking the baby and playing with it and handing the child back to the mother when he/she cries, needs a new diaper, etc. Helping means cooking, cleaning or letting mommy take a nap. Doing the fun stuff is not help. Picking out things for the nursury and decorating it is not helping either. Once again, that is the fun stuff. After having to put up with all the crap of child bearing, it is just plain wrong to steal the fun part of parenthood in the name of "helping". 2) Saying negative things about the name(s) she has chosen. This includes "Oh don't name him that! All the kids I knew named that were naughty." 3) Telling her that her house is a mess when she's 36 weeks pregnant. 'Nuff said there. 4) Telling her horror stories about when you gave birth. 5) Contradicting anything she says her doctor told her to do. 6) Sneaking around and feeding her child something that she specifically request that he not be fed. Why do people do this? Mommy could say, don't feed him strawberries, and though there are no strawberries around, someone will find some and shove them in the kid's mouth. 7) Call every day just to make sure that she didn't have the baby/babies and not tell you. I'm sure I left a BUNCH out. Help me out here, preggos and mommies. Add to my list. P.S. Looks like I'm gonna make it to full term *dances*.

NO SPOILERS HERE. Wow.. I just got back from a screening in Dublin. That movie is frelling awesome! Pure Joss. But also.. Jewel and Sean were there! They did a Q & A and then some signings. I got my Kaylee cover of the 'Serenity' comic signed by both of them! They're both so genuine, and friendly and funny! Nobody ever mentions the funny.. Chris Buchannan was there, too. He answered a few questions but wasn't up in the centre with Jewel and Sean. I was so flustered I didn't manage to say anything to them other than 'hi!' and 'thank you!' Dammit. But still; it was great! Wow, that was awesome. I'm definitely going to go see the movie twice on opening day. And then again the day after. And then twice a week later. And then again. And some more times. Until I get sick of it. And then I'll buy the DVD of course! Oh, and they had loads of big posters for 'Serenity' in the theater! I meant to see if they had a spare one, but I was in such a daze walking out of there that I completely forgot. Oh, also, there was a message from Joss at the beginning, which was hilarious, as is to be expected. That was great. I hope they include it on the DVD. Apparently there's loads of bonus stuff to go on the DVD. I think. And Sean and Jewel looked stunning. I didn't think people could look that good in real life. Well, I'm starting to ramble now, and I don't want to get everyone hatin' me for seeing 'Serenity' and Sean and Jewel and all that.. Or do I? *evil laugh* Well, no. So that is all for now. "I aim to misbehave."

Okay, six months and thirteen days ago I sat in a darkened theatre in London and listened to a letter by Joss Whedon. I then saw the rough cut with a hundred or so other Browncoats. Tonight, I sat in a darkened theatre with Joss, Nathan, Sean, Adam, Gina, Summer, Jewel, Morena, Chris Buchanan and the editor (insert embarassing comment here) and we watched the final cut together. Now, this is spoiler free but I have noted a few of the differences between the cuts for posterity and will post that later. This is therefore more about what was happening around those 96 minutes of movie excellence (at least that's what my review card said). First up, a few of us met in the pub across the road from the cinema. It was, shall we say, rustic. There I managed to put poor Zol's mind at ease by handing over his ticket. He in return gave me a surfeit of excellent Serenity goodies that I must put to good use, including a Jayne hat. There was a good dozen of us there, with people just wandering up, leading to a rather unexpected moment when a slightly nervous looking guy wandered up and asked if he was intruding; of course we said no and were about to do the usual introductions when he launched into his sales pitch for the minature torches that he was selling. Poor guy, got such a friendly welcome and yet sold nothing, must have confused him. We then decamped across the road to the pub next door to the cinema, a rather more slinky affair. Even more people came to join us, complete with hilarious stories of random searching of train stations for Browncoats ("What's so special about brown coats" - random passerby). I then went off to check into my hotel and get changed. There were already at least three people abreast of the barriers outside the cinema a good half hour before people started to arrive. And arrive they did, all the above coming out and waving to the crowds and posing for photos. Joss, Jewel, Sean, Adam and Nathan in particular spent a large time around the crowd where I was, signing autographs and having their picture taken. Next we all got into a very long queue to get into the cinema although it moved along nicely once the doors opened. First out was the Festival Director who had to stall things for a few minutes before Joss came out to introduce everyone and the film. He did well and seemed very enthusiastic about Serenity's place as a film for the Edinburgh Film Festival. He also asked how many people had paid £50 for their ticket. £100. £150. £200. "And it didn't ever occur to you to ask me?" Finally he got the signal and asked Mr Joss Whedon to step out to introduce the film. This bit was quite brief, "this is because of you", blah de blah, you know the drill. The lights dimmed and the film began... The aftertalk: Joss was asked to do the dance of Joy "Thank god for knee surgery" He nominated Nathan in his place. "I'm nobody's dance monkey." Joss leans over "Dance, damnit" and he did. Adam was asked to sing Jayne and did the chorus followed by a vow not to do that in public again. Long rambling non-question from someone in the audience basically insisting that Joss needed to put his integrity on the line about having to take paycuts to make sure it didn't turn into Star Wars for Universal. Joss pointed out that they'd all taken big paycuts to make the movie in the first place. Slightly shorter non question from someone in the audience about how he was depressed that intelligent people were in the minority of audiences. It was a little worrying that most of the early question were of the format "Dance/Sing/Snog for us". A few more decent questions followed but, you know, spoilers and all, so we'll move on. Anyway, they wrapped things up and I went out with those I came with (who refused to be seen with me in my Jayne hat. Bah.) It was interesting to hear from a few who hadn't seen one bit of the original show. They really enjoyed the movie which bodes well for its future success. Anyway, a fabulous day and a memorable night.

The last time I logged in here was in September of 04.. That is insane... UPDATE: I'm still in college... I have 2 and a half semesters to go until I graduate... I'm working on 3 seperate screenplays: a romance that won't end well, a romantic comedy, and a music epic. I'm also working on a semi-biographical novel... (I use "biographical" loosely)... To more excited and thrill-inducing news... SERENITY PREMIERS IN 36 DAYS!!! I'm sure the words "heart-attack" and "freakin' excited" have been used profusely by every Browncoat and Firefly fan out there... But hell... 36 DAYS! Over and Outie...

Oh. My. God. I can't breathe. That movie was *SO* good. I am officially Joss Whedon's bitch. Yes, I am. Unashamedly. He is my king. I worship at his feet. I can't believe there's another whole month before I can see it again. I will see that thing in the cinemas repeatedly. It's just... oh. I can't say enough good about it. AWESOME. I couldn't breathe, I gasped, I laughed, I cringed, I swore, I think I was speaking in tongues at one point... Everyone is going to love it.

Hullo, I dunno if I'm starting to lose faith, give into peer pressure or I am goin insane, but will Serenity pull enough funding for a sequel or getting the show back on the air? I dunno... I hope so, but my family seems doubtful. Still I'm against them in that aspect. Sorry if I sound really mean in making this blog... I just don't know.

- The scissors I have are mostly too dull to work on my Zoe vest. -My art teacher expects great things from me in class. It scares me b/c 90% of the time my art projcts are utter crap. -It's almost Sept. 30 -My friend told me that my boyfriend defended my honor. I don't know what about, but he DEFENDED my honor. Nobody has ever done that for me before. I feel special. -My boyfriend sent me a pic of him throwing a peace sign....he is truely my little dork. I merely kept it short b/c I have a tendency to have journal entries long as hell.

Well, here it is, my first blog. And it's just something I want to share with everyone. I first got the DVDs at Christmas, 2003 I suppose it was. While I was on break, I watched all the episodes. Without the commentary, for some reason I just never got around to listening to it until later. It was late one night, and I had just finished the last disc, and specifically, Here's How It Was. And then, I realized Firefly was over, and I tried to just get on with my life. I remember, I put Final Fantasy X-2 into the ol' drive, and I was thinking of playing it a bit. But somehow, I just never got around to stopping the opening music. I ended up thinking about Firefly, in all its glory, and more to the point, the way the cast and crew felt about it. And I never got past the opening music to FFX-2... I just sat there, and I pondered what a tragedy it was that Firefly was gone. And I havent listened to the score to FFX-2 since. It just reminds me of Firefly. Anyways, recently, because my sister is home and she doesn't remember Firefly too well, (and she hadn't heard the commentaries) we went about watching the whole series again. And recently, I've been thinking, (as i've been watching Buffy for my first time) what would Firefly been like if it had actually existed a TV show, seasons upon seasons. And I realized I just couldn't imagine it as a show, it would be too amazing, too strange, to have Firefly as a living thing again. And tonight, as I write this, my sister and I have just finished the whole series, commentaries and all, and Here's How It Was... and she went to bed, and I just sat there, took FFX-2 off my shelf, and just let the music flow. And low and behold, it brought it all back, it screamed of nothing but Firefly. And I cried somewhat, and I just sat there. And here I am now, typing this, listening to the music repeat over and over, and all I can think is, why, and what would Firefly be like if it had been allowed to continue: it's a sad fact that I have trouble comprehending it. So all I can do, is sit and listen to the music that reminds me of Firefly in all its glory.

1. Joss is an incredibly smart man. Leaving aside the patter (highlights of which included his Chandleresque reactions to "his" X-Men script, his days at high school and "3GTV"), he gave interesting, intelligent and actual responses to all the questions asked. A lot of the time he was prepared to state non-crowd pleasing things (such as, yes, he did intend for Buffy to be a cultural phenomenom and that Revenge of the Sith was the most political astute film of the year) plus make himself look bad occasionally for previous decisions. 2. Joss is very big on the chain of command. While all for collaboration and suggestions, when he is the boss (i.e. from Buffy onwards on TV and presumably Serenity onwards on film) it is his circus, he gets to decide the acts. He also sounded embarassed about the occasions when he broke the chain of command himself (e.g. his comments about X-Men). 3. Joss loves his work. He described writing as a joy, working with actors as an unexpected delight and the whole creative process as immensely fulfilling. He talked about little details like how he knew from the auditions of Nathan, Alexis, Amy and (perhaps surprisingly) Morena that they were going to be the one (subject to standard "crazy person" testing). 4. Joss went off the rails. He credited his wife with a lot of things (including predicting garbage trucks with robotic arms) but also knowing that when Fox stopped coming back to him with network notes about Firefly, that was a bad sign, not the relief Joss took it for. He said it clearly "Fox didn't want Firefly and I knew that" and yet he continued to sell it to them. Creatively, Firefly was an undoubted triumph but it certainly seemed that the behind-the-scenes management that Joss had once prided himself on had gone badly astray. 5. Joss is still a very confident man. You got the impression that once more his self-confidence was battered by the failure of Firefly, combined with the umpteen movie script farragoes and Angel's untimely demise. And yet when he talked about what was important there was no "I think that maybe ..." or "Perhaps I could have..." Joss knows what he thinks is great TV and what makes a great movie. If he fails, he's going to fail on his own terms and fail big, leaving a big Joss shaped hole in the wall. God love him for that.

I had previous scoped out the HMV on Princes Street to ensure that was where the signing was being held. Once there, I spotted a few other Browncoats doing the same thing. (Although one of them joked that they were starting the queue already and I almost believed her.) This should have been a warning sign. The following day, Wednesday, I wandered down at a leisurely pace, ready to take my time, maybe join the queue at about 12 for the 1 o'clock signing. I just happened to be there at 10.15 and already there was a good size queue. Had I realised that the queue was actually much bigger than that thanks to people holding places for each other, I'd have been even more concerned. Anyway, I joined the queue at 10.30, which was quite a bit longer than I'd planned on waiting. Of course, it was no chore as we're a friendly bunch of people and we merrily chatted, took pictures, tried to connect on the Internet in vain and avoided giving out spoilers by the dozen. Big hello to everyone I spoke to, however briefly and apologies for my rubbish name remembering skills. At about 12.30 they ushered us into the sectioned off area for the signing to get us out of the rain which had decided to make another unscheduled appearence. Seriously, people were alternating using their umbrellas as rain shielders and sun shades. Finally at about 1.15 we heard cheers from the front; they'd arrived. Joss and Nathan popped their heads up to see how many they were facing (Nathan pointing and counting, looking at his watch and shaking his head). The queue slowly moved along and it was my turn. I took a quick piccie of them sitting together then passed along my things to get signed. It went Adam, Morena, Summer, Joss, Nathan then Gina. It was only one signature per person so I got Adam and Gina to sign my DVD boxset and the rest to sign my Serenity preview poster (akin to the ones they were giving out at Memorabilia) although I rather bodged it as Joss should have signed my box set. I also had something planned. I'd had a few requests from people to have things signed or pictures taken but really they had very little time and there were a lot of people there. However, thinking on my feet, I composed a text message and got Joss to push the button to send it. I was lucky in that Nathan had got up for some unknown reason and therefore there was a bit of a gap so I asked Joss "Can I be cheeky and get you to send this." Joss looked very perplexed and I pointed out the right button to push and explained "It's a text message to my friend Carol." He nodded and went "Oh, Carol, right" still looking unsure as to what the hell I was going on about so I said "It's just a text message, you don't have to worry about it", probably finally convincing him that he was dealing with a minor loon. Nathan still hadn't returned so I moved onto Gina anyway (who is just soooooo radiant looking in person, I mean kawoweeee!), who signed my DVD cover and was also making eye contact with people (which does make a big difference folks). So now I'm a supremely happy person, all stocked up with signatures (although I still need Sean to get the full set). And now I'm just on the train back to Glasgow, ready for my flight back to Stansted. This has undoubtedly been one of the weirdest weeks of my life and possibly one of the best. I've had real life changing events (yes, there's another blog coming) and big moments in my hobby. Plus I've met the guy behind 200 hours of my favourite television. I've met old friends and new. I've got a new opportunity and some big possibilities in my future. So, in the immortal words of Jebeddiah Bartlett: what's next?

So it’s done. The anticipation can no longer bug me. I’ve seen it … And now I kinda miss it … looking forward to something is possibly the most fun you can have with your clothes on … no, wait! That’s the BDM!!! What did I think? No real spoilers, but I ain’t kidding, it rocks!! ALL OF IT 2 things that niggle if I’m bein’ ultra critical … (1) How did they all get so thin?? I liked ‘em all better fat! (2) Where the hell was Serenity? I missed her a bit (especially the kitchen) … But on the whole OHMIGOSH and Joss and Summer were there after which rocked above all else (Joss has lost a lot of weight too, but it looks good on him, I thought) … And, besides the question on sex with robots, the Q&A afterwards was very enlightening … I thought I’d be able to tell from watching it what someone who’s never seen the series would think, but, as it turns out, I have no clue. I just couldn’t divorce myself from it to that extent, but I hope it is still watchable … SO now the anticipation builds once more for October when I can see the gorram thing all over again!!

...since I was first introduced to Firefly. Well, I remember seeing ads for it back in 2002 and I thought...geeez, what a Farscape rip-off! Yeah, I admit it, I really said that to myself. But I remember sitting down with a friend who'd borrowed the DVDs from another friend and watching the first episode. And I was definitely intrigued...until I hear those guitar chords...somewhat like the banjo in HHGTTG: INT. BRIDGE - CONTINUING Wash is seated, all business now. WASH Hang on, travellers... INT. AIRLOCK - CONTINUING Everyone grabs something, as Jayne pulls off his helmet. JAYNE Let's moon 'em. EXT. SERENITY - CONTINUING As the ship turns away from us, the back lights up -- the entire bulbous back end glowing beneath a metal grid. The ship fires away from us. And gorrammit! I was hooked! Like an absorbent product sucking up everything around it, I just craved Firefly! And now we're right on the cusp of having a month left before the BDM. I walked into my classroom the other day and noticed that I still had an old flyer with the April release date on my wall. :D Man, I love this show!

So I've decided to jump into this blogging world. Not really sure what I'll write. But I guess I just need to. There's a side of me that must give expression, and must be appreciated or criticized, nonetheless. So here I am. It's a deeper frustration a wholing of parts that are better left unacknowledged or undefined. Nonetheless, they are never surface, never vivid never bright & shining with glorious trophies to abound or be abounding. They are deeper, They are reserved. They are a buried treasure that holds no wealth until they are run through by appreciative hands & sparkling eyes. A poetic musing, a fleeting thought that takes shape in a ramble of words that don't rhyme and flow in melancholy cascades & drip dripping deliberation. For many it would be but a saddened attempt for attention. So dismiss it as such. But it hungers to be written, to be scrawled and scribbled. To be shouted & screamed & pierce the ears of those who would look upon them. There is no method, and it's madness is it's art, it's enduring faith & place. Yes, I the brave & foolish. The brash & unrefined, who walks in conservative hallways while wearing my darkened cloak beneath the my plain face & voice. And I who have the sense or lack of it to call myself a poet, to the face in my own foggy mirror. But still the words the images the etchings and all that is within makes it's way in undenied impulses to my fingertips, and the poetic garble continues. Like a trashing heap, that I must admire, that I must embrace, for it is a part a deeper part of me. And I pull the curtain back and wait in quiet. *********************************************** Remember I'm new at this... So I realized that I couldn't just put down one thought for the day. My thoughts could be multiple, so I'm gonna reconfigure these a bit. CUSTOMER SERVICE I have a patience a thin & spidery silken thread coiled to hold, to bend & to stretch but be forewarned there is a breaking a snap & unravelling that in it's wake leaves halved people push me & drive into my corner Yes, that's right my corner my safe'd place, my sanctuary & my hold Yes, I built it, I won't deny it. So I'm not sure, should I post each of these seperately or all at once? Yes, as a matter of fact it does say "Captain Indecisive" on my uniform. Wow. You just can't delete these things once they're up can you. Oh well. Lesson learned. Didn't mean to hog the blog wall.

So I started writing this and got a bit carried away... what can I say - I don't get to go to premieres every day. These are edited highlights; hopefully they don't read too patchy: REVIEWS (SPOILER-FREE) Our share of the audience was made up of my grandma and my mum (who hadn't seen Firefly), me and MyWash (who had seen Firefly) and our friend SW (who can write his own review): My grandma (who's 81), reckoned it was 'better than Star Wars' (by which she meant episode 3, the last film we saw together on the big screen) because 'it was more grown-up'. She also 'liked the spaceships'. My mum thought it was 'a bit like Babylon 5' (that's good). And she likes that picture Joss Whedon likes in the National Gallery too. MyWash thought it was great. As for me, unless I misheard, the film has an excellent use of the word 'addle-pated' - that must be its first outing in cinemas this year. The film also got a big one-page review on Wednesday and 5 stars (that's top) in the national newspaper, the Scotsman. That's almost unheard of -and the review was excellent, the guy really seemed to have 'got it' - even though he said at the start he had never watched Firefly. The Scotsman also seemed to have fallen in love with Summer Glau - they had five pictures of her (and two of Joss Whedon) over two days. THE FILM - AND THE STARS At the end of the premiere I had been a bit vexed for the cast that most of the questions were either directed at Joss Whedon or were of the 'sing us a song' or rambling variety. I think the thing was that people who asked questions were people who had saved them up and had been dying to ask them for ages - things about Buffy and whatnot. It was all very good natured though, and there was one question that gave everyone a chance to speak - asking what their favourite part of the film was. I suppose if you'd just seen the film, you'd not really be in the state to ask smart questions. It's more of a sit-down-after-and-ask-what-hit-you film - in the best possible way. We certainly didn't go out afterwards, which had been the tentative plan. On the Wednesday afternoon, we weren't really expecting the cast to be there, as it was an extra screening - but Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion, Summer Glau and Morena Baccarin all showed up to introduce it! I hope either Universal or the EIFF were paying them good money, because they really went out of their way to be nice to everyone. Just before the film started, Nathan said he had something for the people in 'the cheap seats' (that would be us, up at the back - down at the front was mostly reserved for film festival types as far as I could see from the badges they were all wearing). He ran up, and handed out a whole bunch of Serenity movie flyers - most people probably didn't even notice till the lights went up at the end that they were signed by him, Morena and, I think, Gina Torres. My grandma is so pleased with hers. I just thought that was such a nice thing to do. It's because he's Canadian, man. Actually, my mum had a weird question - is he bilingual? I suppose he could be, being Canadian, even from Alberta, but she reckoned he had that intonation people have when they often speak another language to English. You hear it a lot in Gaelic speakers where I grew up. Actually, you even get Gaelic speakers in Alberta. Why am I talking about Gaelic? Well at least it's about language, which is one of the great things about this film - the script is so beautifully written. The accents could be a little hard for this Scot to catch, like in Firefly, but it was one of the many things that was even better on second viewing. It deserves to do so well, because it's good - and because the cast and crew deserve it. I still completely believe in these characters - and my respect for Zoe as a character has not diminished one little bit. THE JOSS WHEDON INTERVIEW For the Joss Whedon interview, the questions were really good. The same Australian guy who'd introduced the film on the Monday did the interview with Joss Whedon, covering pretty much his career to date - I

Okay, attending the Serenity premiere, seeing the cast, meeting Joss; these are all weird abstracts that don't actually affect my life in one way or another (although I swear making eye-contact with Gina cleansed my soul). However, I have just had a few reality bits I'd like to blog too. I've been working on my own as an IT Contractor, providing technical support to small firms, and I've really enjoyed it. But it's a little restricting just working for yourself and I want bigger and more challenging tasks so I've been looking for other positions. So: Friday, spot ad in local paper. Monday, phone up number and ask for details. They give me huuuuuge form to fill in and send back. I do so and they immediately say they'll ask for an interview very soon. Tuesday, nothing. Wednesday, nothing until 7.30pm when the agency rings and asks if I can go in 3.00 to see them. Well, sure. Thursday, nothing. Friday, 3pm. I do the interview, didn't think I gave that great an impression to the boss (who is about my age and seems cool) but you never know. And indeed you don't because at 6.30pm, they phone up and offer me the job, to start in two weeks time. So suddenly I'm about to be thrust into a new environment, with not that much knowledge of what my role will entail. It should be testing and interesting and offer plenty more recruits to the way of the Firefly  so I'm looking forward to it. However, it does mean that I can't continue my browsing of the forum inbetween clients. And that means I'm going to be restricted to lunchtimes and evenings. This makes me a little sad. Still, future events and stuff. Life changing stuff. This has been a very strange week for me. I wonder what's else is in store? Oh and you can see my photos on this thread, page 3:

I think I may have a new convert. Just lent my DVD set to good friend of mine. He seems excited. I'm so envious of him getting to watch it for the first time.

It hasn't exactly been fun. To those of you who replied to my posts before the madness, I have left the emails unread (I'm reminded of that fact every time I check my mail) and will get to them when I can. Also, before you read the below, just know that everything's turned out fine. So, first I'm having to deal with incompetence for some university stuff. Not going to get into it, but it is related to prior blogs. Storm cuts out power and after 100 mins (UPS) my internet connection. Something funky happens and I can't log back in. I diagnose the problem as not mine and call tech support to tell them. The guy actually raised his voice to me! You'd think that when I start telling him what I'm seeing in my logs and netstat -rn and route and ... that he'd know that he's not talking to someone who's clueless, yet... The only reason why I had someone out to fix it so fast was because I have a business account (they apparently suck up to us ). The problem was (educated guess) that the server thought I was logged in and because everything is static on a business account, it thought I was trying to log in again from the same place; denied. After about 45 min with the techie, she logged in fine; then I logged in fine. So, what I think happened is that when she logged in, the server cleared whatever was in memory for my specific node and viola. Then I start packing to move when my Grandma falls and breaks her hip. When I was first told (by my sister) I wasn't made aware of how serious the break was. I was just told she was in good/bad spirits (happy or pissy still means she's got energy, livelyness, etc) and was in the hospital. So, I thought that it was probably just a hair-line fracture and that they were setting it and were watching her because of her age; late nineties. She's escaped without harm from worse falls. Then I get told by my Dad that she was going to have to have surgery. The "ball" at the top of the femur had basically snapped off. Not a great thing for someone as old as she is. So, we went to see her for what was presumedly the last time. The surgery lasted about 4.5 hrs which is well beyond the 45 mins they said it would take. So, we think that something probably went wrong during that they had to deal with. After she came out of it she was talking to everyone fine and then had a heart attack (we assume; clutching the chest is rather telling). Then the next day she could say where she was but couldn't speak when asked someones name. So, we think that that was probably a mini-stroke (she's had them before). After that it was a downward spiral till she just stared at the ceiling. The nurse said it was like she just gave up. At this point, I think they had gone over in detail my Grandma's DNR two or three times. So, that next day, my parents helped us move (we changed cities) and they filled us in on the above. Also, they said that they phoned the hospital before they came to our (now) old apartment and that the hospital gave them a special number to call for my Grandma's status at any time (normally you can only call during the day). They said that she wasn't doing well. After getting into our new place, my Dad for the umpteenth time told me/us that if Grandma did die that we didn't have to come in to the funeral. I/We said for the umpteenth time, that we would come in (we're only 2-3 hrs away). He tried to re-iterate when I finally got pissed. I just said, "If she passes, we will come in; period. Accept it, deal with it." and that ended that nonsense. My parents stayed in a hotel in town that night. So, the next day my parents come over and say that they had news about Grandma. My sister had gone to see her the previous day and when she walked in her hospital room, Grandma was sitting up in bed chatting with my Uncle and his girlfriend! My Uncle's girlfriend said, she's like the energizer bunny. And it's rather true  They wanted to get my Grandma up and about straight away but they didn't because of the complic

Sorry guys, this post has nothing to do with Firefly/Joss Whedon/Serenity. It's me ranting. About drunk strippers. Seriously. I work for 13 hours on Saturdays, from 9am to 10pm, it's a long day, especially today 'cause I was tired. I work in a porn store/strip club/adult cinema. I'm the 2ic... aka... the weekend/night manager of sorts. Being a girl, I'm used to skeezy guys off the street who think they can ask me for all sorts of 'favours', (because I do nothing but sit there all day and dream about greasy men off the street... mmm hmmm. It's my life long fantasy come true), wanting to know what a 'girl like you is doing in a place like this' (because I'm a raving nymphomaniac and cannot stay away from the porn industry for ten minutes, dumbass, it certainly isn't because they... I don't know.. PAY ME MONEY or anything). What I did not need was the stripper drinking herself into a hysterical mental effing breakdown and locking herself in the peep room and hijacking the intercom so that she can call the customers all sorts of choice obscenities (Think f***ing crinkled runts, without all those pesky middle letters) before I can override it. So then we had to get her boyfriend in to try and talk her out of the room. All in the last hour before close. Which meant I couldn't get in the peep room to empty the money, which meant I couldn't count the money, which meant I couldn't make up the girls' pays, which meant I couldn't enter in any of the End Of Day data into the computer, which meant I couldn't do the End Of Day paperwork, which meant I couldn't CLOSE THE SHOP. I wasn't in the mood for extra work, because I DON'T GET OVERTIME, dammit, and I'd been there all FREAKING DAY. Am I insensitive for being peeved at this? Should I be more understanding, or am I right in thinking "don't bring alcohol to your workplace" even if you are a stripper?

Not much today. Just trying to get my lazy carcass to do, oh I don't know anything. Going to a concert / festival today with a bunch of youth from the church. That whole part chaparone / concert going thing. Should be fun. We got a good bunch of youth in our church. Not feeling all manner of poetical today, but i may scrawl something out later on.

Well it's been a while since my last update and I know people are getting antsy for more Twin Regrets (fortunately, no death threats in the inbox yet, but I suppose that would be rather counterproductive). The story and plot haven't stalled, the fic will be written. Real life committments have been busy plus next week is the deadline for a ficathon on livejournal that I signed up for before I even started the crossover. I hope to have at least one more chapter by October, more if the muse wills it. And nothing horrible happens in reality. For those who have been reading my stuff for a while, Camouflage has been stalled for a long time. I think I've worked out a plot point for it, but I haven't had time to go back and work on it. Writing anything other than short snippets at the same time as Twin Regrets is a little counterproductive since I'm having a hard enough time keeping my verb tenses straight in just TR. I am dedicated to actually finishing Camouflage mostly as proof that I can if nothing else. I do need to go back and do some revisions of earlier chapters as well since it was written over such a long period and my style has changed somewhat, but I'll do that when I'm finished with all of it. I'll see how things go though as to whether I'll continue posting updates of Camo as I finish. Anyways, thanks for all the feedback and still reading my stuff despite my slow pace at the writing. I admire those with a more regimented style that are able to post like clockwork. Sadly, my muse and my life don't seem to cooperate that well.

Wow, ears still slightly ringing. Let's see if I can remember some of these bands names. Soulfire, Gretchen, Last Tuesday, The Wedding, Situation, The Wedding, Day of Fire, After 8, GRITS. And many more.... Okay so I only listed the ones I liked. I would have to say my three favorites when all was said & done was Day Of Fire (excellent hard-rock, former lead singer of Full-Devil Jacket.) Situation was Pure 80's synth-pop. 1 guy singing and two girls one with a synth the other with a keyboard. It would have fit better in a "club" setting. And since most of these other bands were rock or punk, (except GRITS which was hip-hop) it was difficult for the crowd to get into the 80's style stuff. ....Unless you're older like me & my friend Justin who thought it was rather cool actually as we looked at our teenagers and said, "Yes, we're old. Deal with it" Now, Gretchen impressed me the most. At first glance some would try to write it off as another Evanesence wannabe. Not the case. Particularly here. Due to a vehicle issue, the rest of the band didn't make it. So we had Mia (the lead singer) & her husband & an acoustic guitar. This was awesome. You can always tell someone who has great guitar skill & a great voice when all the insrumentation & such is stripped back. This girl had an awesome voice. I really enjoyed their part. It was honest, pure & full of passion. Trust me I love hard core, punk & rock, but more than anything I love intensity & passion in my music. Be it known my two all time favorite bands are U2 & Stavesacre. So that was my day yesterday, from 11:30 to 10:00. a day of reflection & reflecting seeing my self in these younger eyes you're never too old to rock, though the hip & the hop may leave leave you looking hopeless This is my gift I give I am the one their parents turn to so with greened hair & a black t-shirt we make our way to the floor let the sweat fly & vocal chords rage on majestic. this is my ministry, this is my joy while the senior ones mosh the younger look on that's right little one, your Children's Church days are gone Now it is time to rock! and I will always be here to lead the way. Though no one ever led me. I will always be here. So throw a defiant fist in the air & embrace your youth. Never let it be let go, going, or gone. Stay young at heart, alive & filled with fervor & fire & passion for life. Believe that there is something better. And in the truth & faith & honesty & the embrace of a loving God through all the muck that life hurls forth, there is a cause for celebration. And I will always be here to lead the way. Though I may not always be able to Rock for 10 straight hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well not cry. My birthday's been fine, but that song just popped into my head. I turned 22 today. Not that exciting. Seems after my 21st birthday all these others are just going to be getting older. Well, i guess, at 25 i'll get lower car insurance rates, right. That could be something to look forward to. I had a good birthday this year though. Friday, I spent the night with my folks and we stayed up late playing Texas Hold 'em. My brother and his wife were there to play as well. We didn't play for actual money but at the end of the night i was wishing we had! I hadn't played any poker since i was a kid so had to be reminded of the rules, but didn't stop me none. I cleaned house. Outing my Dad and my bro two or three times. (kept giving them more chips so they could keep playing.) Felt good to be a girl kicking ass at poker. Last night was a little wilder. My friends took me out with a mission to get me completely trashed. I had made the mistake of telling them I had never been well and truly drunk.:crap: Their mission failed. Turns out I am not a cheap drunk. I had a total of 7 drinks last night and was just very tipsy. I'm happy with that. I didn't have to puke at the end of the night or have a hangover in the morning. Works for me. And God Bless my friends hubby for being our DD last night. Lots of dancing ensued and talking about sex. Why does that subject always come up when your tipsy? I feel truly sorry for the men in the vehicle, because i'm sure us girls were talking about things they would rather have not heard. Well that's my birthday story. The whole reason for it being that i had no blogs and this seemed an okay subject to blog about.

Well, obviously, this will contain spoilers for the film. But I'll start with a non-spoiler review, and don't worry, I'll have big warnings before I get spoilery on your ass. Well...first thought...WOW. It's Amazing, brilliant, spectacular, shocking, terrifying, clever and hilarious all at once. All the acting is superb, they all gave their best performances and returned to their characters, at a tee. This really is their best. The film itself...just, it's done so well. It's hits every moment spot on. When you're supposed to be scared, I was scared, when you're supposed to laugh, we ALL laughed, when you're supposed to feel sad, we blubbed. It's just such a beautiful film...and so damn funny. If you thought the lines in the trailer were funny, well thats nothing, the funniest ones were saved for the film. Okay, well, I'm going to get spoilery now...so some of you will want to abandon this page!! ***SPOILERS!!!*** Well...I had tears in my eyes four times! I NEVER ever cry at films. EVER. But I did at Serenity. I cried as soon as it started, when I saw Serenity in the air, I was just so happy to see it again, and that this universe got to live on! And of course, I cried as soon as I saw the state of Shepheard Books town...I knew then. Unfortunately, I had been spoiled in the fact that, I knew two people died...and then I found out that one of them would be Wash. I saw some things to indicate the second would be Book, and some things that indicated the second would be Simon. I was actually shocked...cos when I first heard there would be deaths, I just thought there was one death, and the people I assumed to be safe for definite, were Mal, River, Inara, Jayne & Book. So I was shocked! And then later...I cried at the shock of Wash's death. It was horribly shocking!! He landed, and he said "I'm a leaf on the wind..." all proud, and we all laughed, and then within a sec, he died, and everybody gasped, the hairs on my neck stood up. And later, I cried when Simon was shot...and I thought he was then going to cry too...his speech was so sad, someting like "I'm sorry River..I'm sorry I have to go, I failed you." To which River replied something like "No Simon, you always took care of me. Now it's my turn." Then she jumped up, ran, launched herself through that whole, kicked a reaver, hit the button, grabbed Simon's medical bag, and threw it through the hole, just before the door slammed shut. I was so proud of River at that moment. I was crying but I was cheering inside too. I loved that moment. I mean, things were bad by then, really bad for our crew, and ever since the Reaver attack, River had been blubbing like a loony in the corner, and it didn't look like they were gonna make it through it. Simon was fading...and Kaylee needed medical attention, and the rest of em were gonna be slaughtered unless that door was closed...and River was the only one who could pull it off. And she had the braveness to do it! I don't know who I'm more proud of in the bdm... River, or Summer for doing such a fantastic job. I was disappointed by how little of the film Book was in. And that we didn't get to find out his secret. And that we didn't get to see the build-up to his death...we just saw him die. Sounds like it were quite a fight...would have been great to see our shepherd in action! Why was he in so little of the film? Was it because he was unavailable? Or Joss just couldn't use him? Jayne didn’t serve to much of the plot and he was still in most of it!! If there’s a sequel, and Joss kills off any of the women, I'll go mad! If there’s a sequel, I hope nobody dies in it. I hope that Joss killed off 2 people in this film, as he felt there were too many characters to be served in a film. I was impressed with special effects, such as Serenity crashing…and the reaver ships! I also thought the idea of getting the reavers to fight the alliance with brilliantly clever!! River’s fight scenes were…wow, amazing. Summer rocked ass. She’s so amazing and has done a fantastic job!

Ah here it is... the fixing but not so much with the deleting. For the original intended content read LOL. Just, you know, ignore this craziness of mine. Just a small, hopefully insignificant, mental glitch. *twitches*

Do not hit enter after typing your title. I'm not seeing a way to fix it, so... Anyway, we had this big storm here the other day, and out here in my part of town it was just serious rain and some wind. not a really big deal, a relief actually after all the heat. But the next day I see in the paper that it caused all kinds of havock, burned down buildings and all kinds of craziness. I'm thinking I shoule watch the news more often...

Ooooh, shiny! I finally finished my Kaylee fan vid. It's real shiny! At least, I think so. The picture quality is not the best, but I worked with what I had. Yayness. Now I just have to figure out how to host it on the net. My site can't handle it, apparently. Uploaded it by about 90% and then couldn't finish. So, uh, until then... no one gets to see it but me. *sigh* 'Tis a labour of love, this fan business.

a darker morning a dawn that was awakened in glorious mistiness so quickly shattered by those that want what I don't have turn me upside down & shake me till my brains rattle like a weathered maracca and still a solitary coin will not drop from my pockets to keep my crew flying I press through this this wall of murk my murk, yep, I murked up! no denying it, or arguing or debating I admit the fault, now, the real struggle. not to carry it. not to let it wrap as a serpent on a full stomach around my boots and hold me in an unmoving place. of course if his stomach is full, why should I feel threatened? I don't so then why not just run away? I can't. From fear? (laughing) no.....embarassment. you see, this well contented reptile at my feet smiles gleefully with his well stuffed stomach. And I fed him. I fed him my peace, I fed him my patience, I fed him my confidence, my self-esteem, and my joy. I gave him a full course meal of all my resolve & inspiration. and topped it off with a tasty desert of growl & grrr at the ones I hold dear. So....what this is a confessionsal? no, rather a revelation & restoration. as I swing my boot in a deliberate determined arch right to the mouth of this old snakey snake. "Choke on that buddy boy!" cuz when you gasp & die from the taste I'm gonna have me a new pair of boots. Snake skin to be exact. Well, suddenly I feel better.
