The Malcolm Reynolds Teaching Method
Monday, August 1, 2005 10:05 PM
Most of you realise that I teach high school English. In watching Firefly over and over and over again, I've realised that you can learn a whole heck of a lot about teaching from watching Mal. Now I have it listed out here as a cursory list in no real order. I want input from you guys about other things you've noticed and better ways to phrase stuff on the list. The Malcolm Reynolds Teaching Method:
1. I am the captain and, no, you can't run this ship.
2. You all got on this boat for different reasons.
3. Hold the crew to high standards.
4. Rule hard, but rule fair.
5. Got something to say, say it to my face.
6. Honesty - Always shoot straight.
7. Exploit the blurred lines.
8. Everyone on the boat is part of the crew. -teamwork
9. If you goof it up, admit it. Preferrably before we find out on our own.
10. You can only rely on yourself.
11. Piss me off too much, I got no problem shoving you out the airlock.
That's all I got so far...thoughts? Additions? Please?!
