Found out today my mom's having medical issues, which she hadn't bothered to tell me of and probably wouldn't have if my stepfather hadn't called me while she was sleeping today to fill me in. While she told me she'd had some abdominal pain a few weeks back and the doctor told her it was just constipation and gave her some heavy duty meds to get things going, she hadn't said anything since so I thought things were okay. Wrong. Apparantly mom's been having more and more pain including back pain which has gotten so bad she hadn't been able to sleep the past few nights. (No mention of this and I last talked with her...YESTERDAY!) She had a CT scan today which is inconclusive and she has more tests schedualed for Thursday. Stepdad sounded a bit shaky when we spoke, but said that they don't know anything yet. Mom sounded okay, but then she's not been saying too much to me, so.... I'm worried as mom had major surgery last year (hysterectomy) when the doctor discovered abnormal cells in a pap test. I may be reading more into this than is warranted as a.) I've got too many years working for a hospital, b.) I'm a natural worrywart and c.) I've been having a boatload of anxiety that I don't know where the hack it came from for the past few weeks. Thanks for letting me vent.

hi there Isn't some graffiti great. I saw a great piece of it today on the bus home, even though it was a little nasty. On a very dirty lorry, alongside all the usual obscenities, someone had written "cleaned by the NHS." However my favourite piece has to be one I saw on a bus stop near where I live. It said "Paula n Roxy are super biches dam rite." You really have to love those chavs and their inability to spell. anyway TTFN Jennifer -x-

Just felt the need to reccomend a book series Eve Dallas books by J.D.Robb I wouldn't reccomend the first book Naked in Death, but if you start with Immortal in Death it'll all still make sense and I promise both men and women will like these. MisterG loves them and he's mostly into David Eddings and such.

Well, gang it's been quite a ride the last week or so..from the high of getting the site on line to the decision to it shut down after a few days..The response from the browncoat community has been super and positive..we are the best fans...so still go and look at my stuff over there..we'll keep it open for a bit Now some art stuff..I've noticed a change in my style with the last couple of pieces..The pieces are becoming more emotional for me and some might say unfinished and raw... maybe it's the fallout of almost chucking it in and saying what exactly is the point of all of it...then forceing myself to do something...we'll see where this goes that's about it for now

Just wanted to jot this down so I'd not forget. Had a very odd/ strange dream last night that dealt with a musical group made up by native Americans. It was kinda a neat story, and if I were at all capable of telling such tales, I'd write it down. 3 female fronts on vocals and several other guys on instruments. Sorta a feel good, made for t.v. movie type story. I've got no idea where this idea came from, but it was kinda neat.

So one of my biggest ambitions is to become a genuine, published writer of non-fiction books. It's something I'm working on slowly but surely (emphasis on the slowly part) by writing articles and essays for magazines and websites. Imagine my delight when my boss said she had agreed that our IT Training company would supply an article about computers every month to a local magazine. Boss: "You have a degree in English Litt. Do you mind writing the articles?" Me: (aloud) Me? Sure! No problem. I'd be happy to! Me: (in my head) YES!!! YES YES YES YES YES!!! WOO HOO!!! PUBLISHED EVERY MONTH!!! YAYYY!!! Not that it's anything terribly exciting. The article is a maximum of 250 words, so I'm not exactly showing off my literary prowess. Still, it's written by me and published in an actual magazine read by actual people, so I'm a very happy hippie! My first article has just hit the shelves. I know this because the editor sent me an email thanking me for my submission, saying it was perfect and suggesting a topic for next month. She also added an apology for not running my name next to the piece (?!?!?) saying this was an oversight and she'd be sure to correct it for the next issue. So much for the dozens of copies I'd planned to buy and distribute to everyone who knows me... think they'd notice if I scribbled my name in marker underneath the article?

You know, some times it looks like to me that you're the only one that pays attention to everything on here. Not that that that's a bad thing, it's just a mite unsettlin. But, I'm glad you like my band's music. Where do you live Blue? Maybe my band will make it there some time in the fairly near future. well, I'll be on my merry. Have a shiny one

It's cancer, and fairly agressive from the sounds of it. Results of the CT scan showed cancer in her liver, colon and lymph nodes. This is all new since her last check-up with an oncologist a few months ago. Tomorrow she's going to see another oncologist and hopefully will get a plan of action. Mom sounds in good spirits in spite of it (although my step-dad says the morphine cutting the pain is probably helping that a bit) and is optimistic. I wish to heaven I was. I'm trying, but failing miserably at the moment.

The next one is going to get really, really brutal for a part. Although not as long as the last, this one just came out really dark as i've been writing it. Whats wrong with me! Oh well, better out than in. If you haven't figured by now, the blackout stories are going to alternate between the past and the present, the past being somepoint prior (although not that prior) to 2510 (which is wen the battle of Du-Khang took place), and the present being probably about 1 year prior to Simon and River boarding Serenity, say 2516. Im probably going to divide it into ten parts (including the two already written), five in each world, or maybe one cross over peice at the end...haven't decided yet. Newhos, hope you like blackout! And please comment! T'would be super! More coming soon :)

Okay, I'm not a CSI fan in the least. I try to stay away from cop drama if I can. Last night though I did happen upon CSI with Wash on it. I was a little creeped out watching Wash be a child molestor. I just couldn't bring myself to get over the fact that he was Wash. Wash wouldn't hurt a child. In fact his is a kid. I know this is all acting and everything, but I didn't want to suspend my other knowledge of his acting. So I went to be feeling the need to take a shower and maybe watch Serenity to get it out of my system. Boy I sure hope Nathen isn't a creep on Lost! I may never get over it.

OK. Wallpaper's up downstairs. Not so much hapenning with the moving thing. The weather has officially changed up hyar, and I'm not looking forward to moving in the snow...again. Who knows, we may be stuck here till spring any old how. Work's been a grind the last couple of weeks. I'm cranky 'cause at least half the staff is cranky and I wish they'd either get over it or move on. There are some legitimate gripes, but not nearly that many. I'm not getting much (OK anything) done on the fanfic writing front. I've barely been able to check my email, let alone read through threads and fanfics. I'm pooped. At least I've gotten through a few books in the last three weeks. Christopher Moore has saved the day. Wacky fun! Cocoa and rice pudding are calling me.

Well, after spending the better part of a week having to literally concentrate and make a significant effort just to take a full breath, I finally got myself to the doctor yesterday. Ever had bronchitis? If not, some advice: Avoid it, if at all possible. My doctor prescribed two inhalers and told me to take it easy (HA!), and I am breathing a little easier now. Still, I would not wish the way I'm feeling on my worst enemy. Okay, MAYBE on certain network executives. I'm only human...

Well, The company I worked for has given me an unexpected and hopefully temporary vacation. Giving me plenty of time to watch FF and Serenity. Apparently, hard work and dedication don't mean as much as they used to. I wish I had a dollar for everytime I've heard..."There just isn't any good help out there." I made the fatal mistake of going to my employer and asking them to move me to another position. I had "voluntarily" moved to a very high stress job on a temporary basis until they found a permenant replacement...unfortantely I work very hard and feel a sense of responsibility about my work. Why is this unfortunate? Because I was successful...which then means that the employer doesn't want to move you back. I asked to be moved and they refused. Gosh, working 70-80hrs a week and getting paid for 40hrs isn't so shiny. It also pisses off the family. I had to make my line in the sand and they said stay and shut up or get out. After 10 months I couldn't work that many hours anymore so I walked. I did get to pull a version of the Mal qoute though, "I may be on the losing end of this but I'm not on the wrong end." But, as I said the good news is that I have the time to re-watch the series for the 3rd time and Serenity for the 5th time. Life isn't all bad!

Alan was on CSI Los Vegas this past thursday. He played a pedophile. He had me all kinds of creepified. I'm starting to like our BDH as bad guys. I loved Gina in Alas and I don't even like Alas. I can't wait to see Nathan in Lost. Does anyone else know of our BDH playing bad guys on anything else?

Heylo! This is mostly for Cam. Its part of the next section of the Blackout zone story. Im putting it here insted of posting it proper, to gauge some reaction to something i wrote thats...well its particually grizzly. Before you go saying i wrote it simply because i get off on the depravities of human nature, its got a greater significance to the plot (yet to be revealled) than just 'oh, heres some senseless atrocities, for the hell of it'. Oh and to BEB, thanks for replying! I will definately put a warning on my next posting! CAUTION - THIS IS THE A SECTION OF THE NEXT PART OF BLACKOUT (next post)

CAUTION - VERY VIOLENT - READ PREVIOUS BLOG FIRST ----- Johel found an alleyway, dank and dark, hiding himself from the pelting rain now soaking him through layers of clothing, hair slicked down, collar high. Streets were empty, stalls packed away, the night drifting from a joyous carnival to the eerie silence of wind whistling through urban canyons, water dribbling with loud splashes into the storm drain, carrying with it all manner of filth and garbage piled in the gutters. He pulled on a packet of smokes but found them soaked though, discarding them to the curb, laying his head back against the hard brick. He closed his eyes and felt his heart slow. Not far now. Over the sound of the rain, Johel head groans and yelps to the right, far off down the alley way, in its murky bowels of trash-cans and dumpsters and bums curling themselves against anything they could, anything to hide them from the storm. Johel went to turn away, back into the street, but then heard the cries once more. The voice distinctly female, pleading for help. He followed the wall down with one hand, his head low like a stalking predator, away from the soft light behind, into this den of long, black shadows, like ghouls on the rain slicked ground. The calls came louder. Two hoodlums stood in the shadow of a dumpster as a third guy violated a screaming woman against the filthy, oiled stained tarmac, her head propped up against the brick of the alley wall, pinning down her arms as she desperately flailed against him, vainly kicking out. One of the hoods saw Johel as he appeared into view, turning to face him. Young bloke with a scrappy goatee, tat on his face, down his jaw-line of a python. The symbol of the Jackers. The government may have thought they ran this city, so might the Drug kingpins growing rich from the flow of synth from the border. Both were wrong. The Jackers were a frightening gang, almost like a cult at times, while not as strong as the west-side crew - Los Diablos - the Jackers had guns and guts, and cuts into drugs and women. Nobody messed with them. And they messed with everyone. “Something take your fancy, Faggot?” The young one spat, acting as a lookout for the other two; older guys. He hefted a large steel pipe in one hand, a pistol sticking from his belt. Eyes had a faint blue tinge from Scat, a crystalline powder snorted, giving exceptional sensory perception and repressed inhibition. Johel was silent as he walked closer, taking in the scene fully. The woman must have caught Johel through one eye, a shadowy hulk opposing one of the Jackers, hearing the young ones bullying calls over the sound of the rain and the sickening gasps of this monster. “Jesus! Please help me!” She shrieked in pain, a fast slap pounding her gentle face. The lead Jacker turned, shouting between vicious thrusts “Get him the Fuck out of here!” “You just keep walking” the Kid said through gritted, yellowed teeth, twisting his mouth into a vicious grin. Johel stared into him impassively. Johel suddenly turned, as if to walk away, but shot back with phenomenal speed. The knife came out in his right, driving up into the lookout's gut, the guy’s face distending in shock and agony as his hand grasped the wound, hot blood dribbling over his fingers, doubling over with the force of it. Johel snapped his head back, then arched it forward, slamming with his forehead into the kid's nose, feeling it shatter with the weight of the strike. As he tumbled down, Johel grabbed the steel piping from his hands, hefting giant metal club like a baseball bat, padding it into the palm of one hand. The second Jacker took it in the side of head, turning a moment before the impact to face the metal bar smashing into his face. His cheek and jaw shattered inwards with the blow, his entire skull inexorably warping around the pole as it landed, crashing him sideways with a dirty snap. Johel dropped the steel piping with a loud, bouncing crash, the last Jacker still heaving over the sniveling, crying frame of the woman, turning at the final second, unable to defend h

Just some random thinkings on my account. Firstly, ive been wrestling with whether I should better describe my characters in a physical sence. So far ive shyed away from it as I could not figure a good way to do it without it just sounding like exposition “She has a cute face and he is strong” kinda thing. Also, I think, when I read a book I often don’t follow the images of the people writers are describing, as – for me – reading the story is a form of interpretation, and as all of us interpret what we read in a different way based on personal and situational factors, the characters themselves take on the form of whoever you want them to. Obviously, there are some constraints. In Blackout, Johel has not been described as any particular race, age etc, although it can be interpreted, although I have referred to him being ‘Hulking’ as it is more of a simple story-telling purpose than me having total control over my characters. I had massive difficulty writing the rape/death scene in part 3 of Blackout (still to be posted), for obvious reasons as it is quite (intentionally) distressing, but also because of the purpose it serves during the course of events of the story. I knew that it was going to play a part, that it is more than simply a random, disconnected act of violence, but at the same time I wanted to demonstrate crime as a paradox. For example, the only part of this crime that we saw was the rape, which is the case with all crimes. In the news you here some kid was abducted, or someone got murdered or something, and it is the only act that you hear. In some ways, that’s all crime is, entirely disconnected from its surroundings as a singular, vicious act, without point nor purpose. At the same time, this crime started long before that alleyway. As I said, the rapists were gang members. The true reason for this crime is not just boredom or aggression, but a complex set of sociological forces, which have been inflicted upon them, which have led them to this event. Forces to which these gang members are themselves victims, after all, we are all born as human babies equal, and it is out situation which guides us to the choices we make throughout our lives. But it is awfully difficult for us, the rest of mainstream society to stand up and say “these rapists are the victims”, as they are the offenders of a most heinous criminal act. As a society though, it is almost more important to understand and help rapists than any lesser offence. Anyways, just my random thoughts! Mutt

I got a comment! yay!!!! In answer to planetslayers question...i thought it would just be obvious, but its quite clearly not - the stories are going to alternate between the past (2510 ish) and the present (2516 ish). I wasen't even sure that i should post it yet, i was creeped out about the sexual assault bit coming over wrong, but it seems to have carried the way i intended!

The other day when I was on msn, someone messaged me. Thats' fine, I don't mind talking to people but what really annoys me is when I have no idea what the hell the person is saying. This is the conversation: hi hobbleit... hi kaisey ho?? That is as far as it got because i had no idea what kaisey ho meant.

I love being a part of this community. I'm on myspace by virtue of great exposure for my band, but the bs that goes along with being on myspace, drives me batty. But, on the flip side, I also don't censor myself on myspace. If something is annoying me on there, I write a blog or a bulletin, and tell the guilty party what I think. Now, I don't beat around the bush on here, but on here I do take at least a little care to take people's feelings into consideration when I write anything, though so far, there's been no reason to have to take feelings into consideration, cause everyone on here gets along. I love it. It's a shiny feeling for me to feel like I belong somewhere. Believe me, i have dealt with more than my fair share bigotry, in quite a few of it's forms. So, this site, for me, is a breathe of fresh air, in an otherwise smog filled life. Thank you to everyone here.

I am amazed that I am sitting here at my computer on a Sunday afternoon writing about a TV series and subsequent movie. I have one TV, no cable and spend more time reading and listening to must (when I'm home) than watching TV. I do rent DVD's and was a Buffy fan - Angel not quite so much. Still I think it was hearing Joss Wheadon interviewed that lead me to Buffy in the first place. He was talking about how he wanted to write a show that depicted strong and powerful women - showing the small, blonde girl standing up to the bad guys instead of being rescued just in the nick of time. He talked about how he grew up around strong women and how that shaped his life. His atheism was also of interest to me. I lean toward agnostiscm - cowardly atheist I gues, but I do believe (or hope) there is some greater force for good that if not guiding us at least was part of a beneficient beginning. I can work that out - but like River in the show - the Bible doesn't make sense to me without a few inserts. So I became an avid Buffy fan about the 3rd year into the series. I enjoy good fantasy that can take the mind into deep areas that are difficult to explore in day-to-day living. I liked the humor and thought the characters and acting were superior. I missed Firefly when it first came out. Just didn't know about it somehow - not sure how. 2002 was the year my dad was very sick and died in May of that year. I suspect I was preoccupied and not watching much TV. I rented Serenity this summer and enjoyed it but mostly I was attracted to River. I practice some maritial arts - Krav Maga - which I got into because of my love of watching Buffy kick butt. I like good martitial arts movies, too. I must have not listened to the commentary when I first watched Serenity because I still don't remember hearing about Firefly. Recently when rewatching the Buffy series on DVD I heard Joss talking about Nathan Fillon who played Caleb in BtVS Season 7. His acting was amazing, truly evil and very natural. It was then that I check out Nathan and found Firefly. I bought the DVD series and first watched it on my little 13" TV (bc the bigger one died and I didn't replace it). I was hooked and went online and found this site. I'm now a daily participant, bought Serenity and watched it again last night, bought DTI (haven't watched it yet - on for tonight) and vote for Firefly as Best TV show regularly. So what is it about this show that is different from others I've enjoyed? That's what I'm asking myself. While I enjoyed Buffy and will watch it again, along with some others, Harry Potter, Napoleon Dynamite and The Gods Must be Crazy, etc. - I've never considered joining fan clubs or talking about them on line. Well maybe Buffy I am currently reading The Philosophy of Buffy the Vampire Slayer (quite interesting). Well there are the ususal things - Joss Wheadon is involved - the characters are interesting, work well together, and are attractive and appealing. The show is exciting and shows people as they are - changing, shifting from cute to cranky, from altruistic to mean and nasty. There are challenges, nemises(sp?) and sex. There is the fighting - women and men together - River is still the strongest and smartest of the bunch - but as someone once said to me - for her - that's kind of like having brown eyes. I do love good kick-ass fights (thus the western things fits well). Zoe's character, too, is strong, silent - speaks her mind when she really has something to say. Mal is kind of like the character of Buffy - the anti-hero - although he doesn't have super powers - he's quite good at seeing and implementing the big picture - the plan - even if it's by the seat of his pants at time. Wash is funny and a crucial part of the team. I can't imagine how they would replace him if and when Firefly gets back on or Serenity II is made. Kaylee is kind of like Willow to Buffy. She's solid and sweet as well as sexy cute. Inara wouldn't seem to fit but she does. She plays Mal's counterpart and almost alter-ego. Jayne provides the wild-c

So, I am minding me own business watching a movie with my kids (Stick It) (Very good, the two boys remind me SO much of #2 and borrowed boy - I was laughing me arse off). Anyway, there I am minding me own and the door bell rings. Borrowed girl answers it and she is acting strangely so I go over and it is a lovely Sherrif from the town of Foley and he says he is looking for ME. I go out to see what he wants and it seems they have a summons for me because I am "harrassing" the ex. Apparently, when the ex sends and/or leaves notes and crap for me - if I answer those notes and put them in his mailbox or mail them to him - I AM HARRASSING HIM! OK SOMEONE PLEASE BEAM ME UP! because I am not having fun anymore.

Don't exactly know where I went...but I was gone. My fic ideas sputtered and died...sadly, so, my only finished firefly fic is, and will remain, the one shot titled "I hate you" BUT... I'm planning on doing a bunch of Jayne peices set between the eposodes. Maybe even toss one in for post-movie. Point is...I'll finish at least five of them before I post them...you see... Day after I turned 18, I moved in with my mom...who dosen't have internet. So while I'll make a more concious effort to log on, I may actully be on less then ever. But! I'll do my best to get some sort of work up. Might even make another pic series. Speaking of pic series...if you have the tech and know-how for music-vidio making...but lack insperation...can we colaberate some? 'cause...I've got a LOT of ideas that I have nether the tech or the know-how to make. Oh...and I should start putting these in log entrys regularly. New Recruits update: Lenaya, my mom's roommates son's girlfriend: Seen Out of Gas and first half of Ariel. Interested, but busy. Justin and Ryan: Seen first bit of BDM. (Up to Mal and Shephard talking on Haven) Ryan fell asleep because he was up all night, Justin almost because of ditto. Going to start bringing eposodes to school and watching them on portable DVD player at lunch. Lorrann: Hasn't seen any yet, but I talk so much she wants to. Clay: Hasn't seen any. Loaning BDM tommrow. ...I've been busy.

I hadn't been able to get much information from my mother about things and living 4 1/2 hours away doesn't help. I call early this morning and spoke with my step-father about the doctor appointment they had on Friday and all. Things do not look good at all. They're doing another CT scan just of her liver on Wednesday. If they can do anything about the cancer there (three cancers there, one almost the size of a tennis ball) then they'll do surgery, etc. If they can't do anything about the cancer in the liver, they'll just make her comfortable for what time she has left. My brother and I will be headed up there (5 1/2 -6 hr trip) on Wednesday to be with them for that. Thanks for all your kind encouragement, support and prayers. I really appreciate it. Ya'll are the best.

Well, here it is. I'm not much of a blogger or writer, but Firefly is something special to me, and so I am inspired to write my story. HOW I BECAME A BROWNCOAT One day a few years ago I was using one of those file sharing programs where you can download stuff illegally. It was a passing phase, and I don't do that anymore. But at the time, I was searching for something I vaguely remember from TV that I never got to see. All I could remember was it's name, "Firefly", and it was sci-fi, and I missed my chance to see it. So after a brief search, I found a few episodes. A few hours later, I was in love with a cancelled show I never got to see when it aired (thank you, FOX, you idiots). A search on Amazon.com and a few weeks later I had the DVDs in hand, and was completely under the spell of Firefly. It was magic. Art. Genius. Love. I was completely perplexed. How could this show be cancelled? I joined fireflyfans.net, and the movement for more Firefly. A year later I was overjoyed when I heard about the movie, Serenity. I was shocked and awed when I saw it, literally vibrating afterwards. Then totally depressed when I learned it was not a phenominon like Star Wars. It should have been. It deserved to be. A few months later I came to terms with the fact that I liked Firefly better than Serenity. The movie was great, but it was not Firefly. It was not the day-to-day life of our beloved crew, it was instead a Big Damn Movie. I would rather have had another 14 episodes than a two-hour movie extravaganza. But I understood this was all Joss could do. At least I got to see more of the story. THE STATE OF THE 'VERSE Dammit, I want more Firefly. It deserves to be reborn. More than any other show, or any other concept I could think of, I believe this 'Verse needs to be explored more. Screw Star Wars and Star Trek. They've had their run, and I had a kind of love for them. But not like Firefly. Give me real characters, real emotion, and real... realness. I've bought more Firefly/Serenity merchandise than any other branding. DVDs, Visual companions, comics, cards, ornaments... almost everything. Just goes to show you that even though I could get the episodes via a pirate source, I was moved to buy the real stuff. FOX and Universal made money from me thanks to illegal file sharing. Not saying piracy is right... Just saying in this case, it sure didn't hurt FOX or Universal. So here I am, over a year since the movie, and things don't look great. Sure, we should get a comic book, and maybe a few novels... but Firefly should be on TV again. And I still think there is a chance it may be. But dammit, what's taking so long? Are there really more stupid people on this planet than smart ones? I'm sure anyone reading this can say "been there, felt that", but I just had to put it down here. Now on to some more thoughts I have had about Firefly... IS MAL AGNOSTIC? One of the things I find compelling about Malcolm Reynolds is his so called Agnosticism. He is not an Atheist. He may not even be an agnostic, since he says God is not welcome on his boat. So he may still beleive in God, but he just doesn't "believe" IN Him. He's turned his back on God, because he feels abandoned. I believe in God. I think atheists must be delusional (as I'm sure they think I am) because they cannot disprove God's existence, no more than I can prove it. But the problem I think is what the definition of God is. I don't believe He is a "He" or even something tangible or measureable. God cannot be male or female any more than a galaxy of stars can be. God is beyond my understanding. We humans only really know what four percent of the universe is. To believe there is no God is to assume you know all there is to know. I do not know everything, therefore I cannot truly know what God is. I can only believe that there is some power beyond my understanding. That is God to me. Mal has made the mistake of believing in a God that takes a particular interest in him. How self-centered is that? So when Mal loses the battle of Serenity Valley, he feel

I'm thinking about ways to strenghten the signal - to push the power to increase the ability to get Firefly back on. I wonder if we have any mystics, psychics, shamans, witches, and other types of energy workers on this site. Maybe we could come together and create a spell, a cone of power if you will, and send it out into the universe to relight the fire. I know this is kind of freaky but I've seen it work when things are clearly defined and there's enough energy behind it. I'm writing about this after re-watching Serenity. I'm watching Done the Impossible now and wondering if there is anything that hasn't been tried yet.

I watched Serentity today. I think it is the millionth time I have watched it. I love that movie. It captivates me every time, even though I know exactly what is going to happen. Hell... I might watch it again in the next couple of days.

Coming very soon! I must admit, this has been probably the most fun out of all of the sections written so far! Its set during the initial stages of the unification was on Sihang (in Du-Khang) and maybe its just the survivalist in me, but trying to figure out exactly a group of peoples can survive in a city racked by violence, collapsing government control, refugee populations, increasing civil unrest, disease and death is - for me - really interesting! Its set (like pt 2) in Du-Khang, which for observant browncoats is the city/warzone featured in 'The Message' where Zoe, Mal and Tracey are fighting, in 2510. I've had problems imagining what this city may look like. I found a pic on the net of a massive hall/library, which is what i based hte University around in Pt 2, but the city itself i wanted to be athetic, futuristic (obviously) yet also classic and grand, much like Venice or (probably the city i based it upon the most in my mind) Waterfall city from Dinotopia. Love that book. I figure, if you really like the city beforehand then you'll feel even worse when it gets blown up (which im thinking it will). Thats what annoyed me about Star Wars actually, is that in Ep 4 they blow up Alderaan saying "Please, we have no weapons!" and apparently its this terrible atrocity but, really, you just don't care because its a blue smudge that was invented soley for the purpose of being wiped from existance. I thought the prequels would sort of create a world of Alderaan, where you really liked the planet and came to appreciate how nice it was, but you barely saw it thoughout the entire series of prequels! Grrr! Newhos, what was i talking about again?

Hey, all. I'm very sorry it's taking so long to post more of my attempt at a screenplay. Getting the new abode settled has been an adventure. I promise to post soon. I've hardly had time to even look at the site, let alone post and re-format. Miss you guys and girls. Rob O.

I really do. Its part time in a small café, the people are great, the tasks are fun, even the washing up, I get tips, and its a million time better than my old one. Only problem is, I leave smelling like I fell in the chip pan. oh well...

Well finally got the internet working. Im hooked to civilization again!!! This place royally sucks!!!! I am definitely counting down the days till we leave. 17 more months!! I think the only great thing so far is that i ran into another Browncoat! He saw my Serenity shirt I was wearing and yelled "Oh wow, a Browncoat!" I was very happy to see him. We chatted as if we were old friends. It gave me a little more hope that this place will get better. New Mexico is sure not the Land of Enchantment I was looking for. I cant wait to get back to a real city. *sigh* Firefly gods...please get me through this, and thanks again for bringing me the verse. Amen.

This contains spoilers!!! If you have not seen the Big Damn Movie, then what the heck are you doing surfing the web? Go and watch it doggone it! And futhermore, don't read this!!! This is how I usually title my blog, stuff that has actually nothing to do with the post therein, so be prepared for disappointment! Well, I was like thinking, you know, about stuff. Firefly stuff. And anyway, I was thinking of when Wash died. Now, Serenity was the first exposure I had with the 'Verse. And Book's death was the first experience I had with Joss getting down and dirty and killing somebody that I cared about. So, imagine my surprise when not ten minutes later, he goes and does it again. These are people that I haven't even known for two hours. However they had wormed thier way into my heart. Suffice it to say, for the next few days I was hella depressed. I mean, seriously and utterly down. That got me thinking: Okay, firstly Joss is an amazing storyteller. And on top of that, the actors (Alan et. al.) are awesome. But futhurmore, the fact that I was severly negatively impacted by Book and Wash's death shows how open we are to outside emotional influences on our psyches. I never met Wash, or anybody on board of Serenity, however, I was totally torn up about it. So, here I am, completely distant from the goings on on Serenity, yet just as touched by the tragedy. So, yeah, I think that it speaks about Joss ability to draw us into the story, and make us feel as much a part of the crew as Zoe or Jayne. And let us feel the sorrow as deep as if we were there.

Hello! Firstly, did anybody like part 4 of Blackout??? I hope it wasent too depressing. I kinda wrapped it up a tad quicker than i originally intended to, as i was starting to make myself miserable. I guess thats kinda the point though: bearing the weight of it. I wanted to write something that enabled people to understand (or maybe just myself) what the unification was truely like, that it wasent all balls and bravado but Kids dying and families without homes. The true cost of it hurts the weakest the most. Anyways im going to take a little break from writing the next section, insted focus on writing out the rest of the Du-Khang parts as its definately where my head is at the moment. Hopefully it wont be long until i can get back to the nasty, blackout zone business of Presaria city. Part 6 will take place during and very shortly after the events shown at the start of 'The Message', including Capt Vitelli (mentioned in the episode), a seeker-injured Tracey Smith, Mal and Zoe's decision to 'Join up with the 22nd' and the Battle of the School System, which im going to contrast against the Battle of Sihang (Between Chinese and Japanese forces, 1937). I've watched the episode a few times to get a taste for it, as well as Band of Brothers and a few others to add some gritty battle realism (hopefully). Im trying to bring the battle of Du-Khang across as a very World War two Urban battle. Ive always imagined Alliance Rollers and vechicles as Nazi Panzers and Half tracks. Im basing the "Rover" on a German Leichter Panzerspahwagen armoured scout car thing, and the Pig skiff on a Russian Hind Helicopter Gunship. For me, Firefly was very much a mixing of science fiction conventions, from the Massing Dystopian cityscapes Cyberpunk (Ariel) to the anachronisms of Spaceships breaking up bar brawls (train job), the giant cogs and flywheels of the Bar in question screaming Steampunk. And on top of that the historical context, political/social statement. Love it. Newhos, I wanted to place my war in an historical context, and i came out in WWII. Catch

Early in 2002 I booked myself to work on the pilot episode of a show called, "Firefly". They specifically wanted people with their own Middle Eastern clothing. I showed up wearing my formal Gypsy outfit and they loved it. I was sent to make-up where a huge Oriental tattoo was applied to my neck. I was then given the biggest rifle Man has had the nerve to manufacture and was told to act as a lovely lady's escort. We worked all day on the shoot - the scene was an open air marketplace / spaceport - and at the end of the day I went home and forgot about it. In September of 2002 I was cast in "Pirates of the Caribbean - Curse of the Black Pearl" as one of Jack Sparrow's crew. Between shooting dates for "Pirates" I continued to book myself on other shows. In November or December, I found myself working on "Firefly" once again. The episode was called, "The Message" but I believe it never aired. This time it was a two-day shoot and it was at the Fox studio. It was a strange atmosphere as everyone knew the show was cancelled but we had to finish the episode. I say strange because some people were somber or tense, but some were still making with the jokes and pranks. One that stands out was when Morena Baccarin (Inara) gave Nathan Fillion (Mal) an "Aw, we're not gonna work together anymore" hug, she stuck a sign on his back that read, "Kick Me. We're Cancelled!" The bit where you can see me most clearly is when Jayne is reading the letter from his mother (and wearing his new hat!). I'm the only other person in that scene. I'm in the background, doing some shopping. I'm bald this time, thanks to my working on "Pirates", and this time the tattoo they gave me was a huge tribal one that covered half of my head. Now, I'll be the first to admit that I was just an uncredited extra but I did notice that Joss framed the scene so that Jayne was on one side of the screen and I was on the other to give it a kind of visual balance. At the time I had no idea he was doing that, but when I saw it, I thought it was damned decent of him. It made me feel like I was "more" a part of the show. In a way, I feel like I'm a part of the Firefly "family" because I was there at the beginning and I was there at the end but I didn't do any of the episodes in between. I mentioned this to Ron Glass (Book) and he was nice enough to say, "Well that's probably why we were cancelled."

So, my mom and I were watching "Safe" tonight (nice coming home to Firefly after I've been away for so long ), and my mom noticed something odd about halfway through. "How did they know Simon was a doctor?" was her question. And, that is the question I pose to you: How did the hill folk know that Simon was a doctor? I apologize if this question has been answered before, and is archived somewhere in a thread from long ago; but, trying to look through all the threads made me sad, and... well, it's late, and I'm lazy. So   Any answer would be appreciated! Thank you!

My school is burying a time capsule soon to be buried and dug up in 50 (or was it 15) years, anyways... they said something small but meaningful... well I plan to put something firefly/serenity... I can't come up with anything, but if anyone is feeling creative... something serenity with meaning... then i'll laminate it. Something for the future...

It's election day and there was a much bigger turnout where I vote than I've ever seen. Most times I just walk in and vote. There was an option of either using touch screens or voting by ballot. I selected the ballot bc there was no lines for manual balloting. They are different this time - in that you have to black out the circles, can't vote for one whole party but rather must vote for each person individually, and they use optical scanning. Not sure if that's safer or not. I've heard more people voted absentee bc of distrust of the new machines. Questions arise as to our trust or mistrust of government of which we are supposedly a part. I've always leaned left somewhere between liberal and anarchist but occasionlly swing between. I hate being put into a box anyway. I think I have always voted and try to stay informed but lately I'm not sure if that matters or not. Shows like FF and people like Joss and Orson Scott Card who write about people and systems of government, control and power issues that play out always fascinate me. I don't think I'm someone who normamlly buys into paranoia - plots and the like. But I've become more and more cynical about what I see and hear. "Things aren't always as they seem" and "More to be revealed..." tend to play out in my head. I'm fairly smart and quite well educated - not brillant but I've been around enough years to have seen many different scenarios play out, ideas and schemes come into and out of popularity. So my questioning as to why I've become so infatuated with FF is as much about challenging authority, maintaining independence, loyality and yes, love, for what is truly important in life. Standing up and fighting for autonomy in the face of sacrifice for the "so called greater good."

I seriously hate this module. Today the lecturer put us in groups (well mine was only a pair) and we had to answer questions. My question was identify the methodological and historiographical issues in the book and relate them to other modules you have studied. I had absolutely no idea what the hell to do. I am seriously dreading having to write the final essay, I'll probably fail at this rate. On a happier note, I bought the new Ross Noble DVD yesterday. It's extremely funny, Iwould recommend everyone to see it. Ross Noble is one of the funniest comedians ever!!!! TTFN Jennifer -x-

I haven't posted much in recent days, i honestly really haven't had it in me, which isn't good. A few of you asked for a follow-up to "Annabelle" and here it is: "Reconsider Me." It's an old Warren Zevon song title, one I played about 800 times I think in a short and un-fun period. Anyhow, hope it's the follow up you asked for, and I promise a good action story sometime soon.

Hey all Well, today has been another long day that will be followed by other long days and light up till Nov 30th. As a Film Production student, I am up to my eyeballs in projects and assignments. Thank God I recently discovered BitTorrents, because now I don't have to worry about missing my TV shows. The topper for my day today was having to re-schedule my portrait time with Trixie, my subject matter. Wednesday night was the only time I had to take her portrait for my B&W class. Turns out the studio is booked for that time. The next time she's available is Sunday afternoon. So I go to book studio time for that. Lo and behold, my good buddy Todd has the entire studio booked for the long weekend. I had been fairly cool the whole day. But it was at that time I actually lost it, ripped up the forms and gave a slight Hulk roar. At this point, I no longer care. I'm just going to bring my Pentax with me to school, and when I see Trixie in the halls or whenever, I'm just going to snap her pics then and there. Fuck artistry. I just want a fuckin mark. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to write the second half of my script for my final project, do my multimedia lab that's due tomorrow, do some long overdue reading responses, and mess around with Photoshop to create 11 experimental shots. Photoshop, BTW, is a system I have no idea how to use, even after a previous semester and a tutorial that went over my head. And all in the comfort of a claustrophobic room on campus affectionately known as "The Fishbowl."

I have gone through a really complicated and horrifically painful period in my life, complicated way beyond description, and you all who read "Annabelle" and "Reconsider Me" probably have an inkling as to what I am talking about. I have received a good deal of supportive notes out here, and it's appreciated. Things are begining to resolve themselves. Not to where I'd like them to be, but we were together the other day, and that's not nothing. Thanks to all of my fellow Browncoats!

To me Firefly is my chance to explore the world, face perilous peril, fly into outerspace looking down on the world and to catch a glimpse of the future all packed into the perfect SCFI seiries of all time. Firefly is a chance tobe who I want to be. Even after being cancled Firefly has inspired many people to just let loose, not liten to the rules and follow your dreams no matter how crazy. I'm one of these people and Firefly has helped me through some tough times. The following is part of diary enty I wrote. 1/3/06 9:08 "I didn't see Firefly today or yesterday and if I don't see an episode or Serenity tomorrow my life will be headed for the corner of no and where."
Wednesday, 08 November 2006 01:43:08
I love the Chinese in Firefly. I love how now I can say whatever I want to people and they won't get mad at me for saying something rude or mean. In fact sometimes people hardly ecnolage that I have spoken at all.
Wednesday, 08 November 2006 15:57:54
I e-mailed Trixie about this discrpancy, and I actually came up with a solution. Trixie has some time booked for the studio as well. I figured that when she's done with her subject (around 6:30/7), then I can come over and do my photos of her then. So problem solved. Will not throttle Todd. BTW, is there a doctor in the house? I've had this weird feeling in my torso the last few days. Today is a lot better, but my abdomen just feels sore. Like really sensitive to push down on. The only thing I can think of that would have caused this is that I did some sit-ups on Sunday. But that shouldn't cause that much pain, right? The kind that lasts for a few days. I'm way too busy with school to waste time at a walk-in clinic.
Wednesday, 08 November 2006 16:26:38
Quick update...things are going along well...the house is on it's way to being done (only took a month!), and the bar still has some work until it's ready for a full-on Shindig. I've posted some photos of it in the Blue Sun Room...I'll be putting up a few more today. I'm dating again, and having a grand old time. It's nice to be able to go out, have fun, and not worry about anything beyond tomorrow. The costuming is coming along as well...I'm stitching as fast as I can, and trying to develop even more Firefly-themed costumes for y'all. If you have any ideas, feel free to let me know! Work is picking up, which has kept me from playing here as often as I like...I do miss the daily posts. Again, thanks to my extended family for being here for the good times and the bad! Y'all truly are the shiniest folk in the 'Verse!

Hey I aim to misbehave, potentially more than the rest of ya'll. Come on, I'm a musician. For instance, my diet consists of fried food, nicotine, energy drinks, and alcohol. But, my loving this community, has nothing to do with not aiming to misbehave, it has to do with being around individuals that share common interests and views, as opposed to the ignorant f@#$-tards I have to deal with most everywhere else. So for me, my family here, is a relief. And remember, friends are the family you choose. Dong ma? Shiny, let's be bad guys.

yes this will probably be turned into a series whenever I find a new thing to say. Things you shouldn't do whilst trying to write notes 1. Watch a Ross Noble DVD. Seriously, instead of writing said notes, i got sucked into watching and ended up killing myself laughing. So that was part one. Here is a picture of my friend andrew to keep you occupied

I know this isn't very exciting news for anyone else but it is for me. Today I spotted my first Toronto Browncoat! I saw a green Subaru Legacy with the licence plate "MEIMEI".

One of my fellow Browncoats posted a log entry "What Firefly Means to Me" and talked about the mentality, etc. of the browncoat life. I left him a response, but decided I wanted to share this with everyone, because I have recently had a Browncoat experience which was just fantastic. Firefly, to me, is not about a fabulously written and acted show and movie, and it's not about a force of will that got a full length movie, even though it is all of those things. This is what Firefly means to me: I like writing fanfic, and a fair number of you all out there enjoy reading it, so everyone gets something out of it, haha. My life recently has been an absolute trainwreck, and anyone who read "Annabelle" and "Reconsider Me" will have a good idea about what is going on. believe it or not, it is even more complicated than what i wrote about, God help me. Well, the level of support I received from people whom I do not know and probably never will know, except in the fact that we all wear coats colored brown, has been astonishing. Firefly, to me, is means a philosophy and mentality, a sense of community and belonging, where someone in Australia can support some dude in Boston going through troubles. I want to thank all of my fellow browncoats, and hope I can do the same someday. That's what Firefly means to me.

It's up! Frantic scribbling finished for now. Plot to continue, but I just HAD to post this at what felt like a good stopping place.
Thursday, 09 November 2006 09:39:27
Turned the big 44 on the 8th, and to celebrate, my two martial arts students got me the FF DVD boxset cuz they know what a FF-aholic I am, what with it being on my cell ringtone, my PC wallpaper, my Windows XP start up and shut down music, etc. etc. That and one of my students hasn't yet seen the series, just the BDM. So of course will have to sit 'em down to watch the whole thing... Also, for my B'day, I finally got hold of some synthetic black powder for my Uberti 1858 Remington, so now I am ready to take my Shiny Browncoat and my version of my Mal's gun to the local shootin range here in Chino... Still workin' on getting some pics for y'all... So any Browncoats in the IE / SoCal / Chino area who wanna join me sometime for some thrillin' heroics and target practice are always welcome to get in touch.

Well it looks like I'm gonna be getting a job back at my old haunt, good ole Starbucks. (Mmmm, iced lattes...) Now this is after being out of work for almost 2 years. Gotta tell ya, I'm a little scared, just a bit. Going back to work is gonna be a big change, but I think a nice one. I have been bored outta my freakin skull and there is only so much Final Fantasy I can really play, ya know. lol! But now that the surgery is over and I'm on the road to full recovery it's time to get back to life. Jon and I are getting a house in Dec. and life's going pretty damn good. Well, almost, but I can't complain. After all the crap that's been going on for the last couple years this is a damn sweet patch of road. I'm gonna drive it and I'm gonna stop bitching and I'm gonna watch me some Firefly. All is good.
Thursday, 09 November 2006 16:37:55
Well...over the weekend, me and some other guys got together and played an all-night session of Serenity. I was pretty beat the next day, but it was so worth it. The GM fell asleep while we were going in-between moons and we had to wake him up to see if anything happened. It was quite hilarious.

I don't get freaked out about people not washing their hands "after" going to the bathroom, as much as not washing before. People, PLEASE wash before you go. Think about where your hands have been and the nasty shit they touch. Now why would you put those filthy, nasty, and germ infested paws on, or near, your private parts? This is why oral sex is a dying art. Who the hell wants to catch the common cold after a night out?

Hi folks. I'm gonna be MIA for awhile. Mom had the new CT scan and they also did a biopsy of the liver ones. This new batch of cancer is not the same as what she had last year. It originated in her liver and is much faster spreading than what she had in her uterus last year. She's having increasing pain and they don't know why but think it may be related to what's happening in her bowels. Nothing's moving there...the barium from the CT scan she had on Halloween is still there and shouldn't be. The doctor can't dispute that the liver cancer is terminal. A couple of doctors will be in to see my mom and step-father tomorrow to discuss what exactly is going on. As I mentioned previously, I did go up yesterday at 6am and got home at midnight and will be headed back up tomorrow after work. Thanks again for all your good wishes, prayers and support. *fff.net* I'll be back when I can. **** RMMC

Hey All Well, I finally did it. Last night, I finally got to taking Trixie's photos. Had a bit of a late start, and I think the battery in my Pentax was dead because the internal light meter wasn't working, but other than that, the whole thing went smooth. Also, the sensitive area on my torso has cleared up. I'm guessing it was just some pulled muscles.

Everybody hates economics, but it seems to me that if a War in the 'verse had taken so long and been so devistating, it would have included some form of economic dimension. THis is what im going to say in my next section, part 5, of Blackout. Tell me what you think!! ---- Hillside’s history found its roots long before the war, of course; a little guava growing community set into the vast, lush and fertile jungle, pickers converging from across the world: students enjoying holiday backpacking adventures and even travellers from further afar picking up the easy work, taking a well deserved rest, meeting the locals and finally hitting the road once more when the season finally passed and the towns became quiet though the long sticky months. The war quickly changed that. New Melbourne was not on the border, and thus was not afflicted by its politics. Be it independence or unification, the layover worlds of Persephone, Beaumonde and New Melbourne itself would always serve as a point of arrival and departure; to refuel, trade and regroup, for both sides of the argument. No fighting ever took place here, no militia massed, no cyaden gas shells rained, no klaxons in the night, and while individual pockets heralded there causes of liberational and dissent, New Melbourne was not where this war was to be fought. In the end, it cost six years and millions of lives. Worlds and infastructure lay in ruin a system over, industry – the same industry for which the war was fought – completely crippled; land destroyed, workers either dead, refugee or bound-by-law, with no money left to buy crops. And so became the Wolfe plan. In the core, investment portfolios were established for vast tracts of land on the border, value severely depreciated after the fall of the browncoats; entire continents snatched up in the blink of an eye for next to nothing by the corporations. Of course, the core itself had suffered immensely; food and resource shortages, rationing; the only companies which still turned considerable profit those whom both resided within the core and produced such good via primary industry; and the arms manufacturers. Blue Sun, conveniently the latter, purchased more land on more worlds than it knew what to do with, until, in the end, it control the land that grew most of the core’s food, mined much of its minerals, and produced its raw goods. Overnight, the value, prestige and power of Blue Sun doubled, tripled, quadrupled. Of course, there was the flipside. The Wolfe Plans purpose was multifaceted, primarily aimed and injecting funds into the stymied primary industry sector, reinvigorating economic growth on the border. Having jobs and livelihoods once more, seeing there homes, towns and cities piece by piece reconstructed with money from the core, businesses reopen and entire societies – stalled in the face of six brutal years of war – reconnecting, had a stabilising effect on these worlds. Of course, less overtly, the Wolfe plan effectively ended mercantilism within the system, centralising power in the hands of the Alliance, ensuring that nothing like this could ever happen again; after all, the core now owned the border, and through collective pressure the core could force individual worlds into economic recession if they felt any particular planet was getting out of shape. With control centralised, resources assured and growth booming in the core, the next inevitable economic process begun: specialisation. Specialisation is an economic organization principle which holds that, at a system-level, economics will be far more collectively productive if each subsets of that system, in this case planets and moons, begin to specialise there production capacities. The border had little room to resist; the core owner the lands they pulled copper from, and planted seed. Regina became a mining capital, destroying its value-adding sector. Hera produced nothing but beef, wiping out the corn plantations known system wide. And New Melbourne became the fishing capital of the system, where one could come to gut stu

Finally, I managed to get a new chapter of "Out of the Frying Pan" written in less than a month. Six days short of a whole month still counts, okay? A good amount of the next chapter is already written, so it shouldn't take too long. But, as always, the best way to get a new chapter is to comment! Can't even tell you guys how apprciated, and motivating, your feedback really is.

I said I'd put in ideas for different tings so here is my first one. Anyone is free to use this and I would love to hear back about this idea. ________________________________________________ Working titles -'Sticking Point'-'Bitter'-'Outcast's outcast.' Brief description- An encounter with the ship's former mechanic lead to dangerous conflict between Serenity and his ship. Plot/story- Kaylee, Mal and Jayne bump into the ships former mechanic (Fester, as seen getting replaced by Kaylee in 'Out of Gas') in a bar. He argues with them several times and his crew backs him up, mostly because he is sleeping with his female captain. the conflict looks to be resolved upon leaving the bar but then the two crews find themselves competing for the same job. Acts of sabotage are committed by both sides esculating to the point where Fester attempts to kidnap Kaylee. Mal shoots him, Simon has to patch him up and Fester is once again fired by his crew for such a stupid reckless act. ________________________________________________ Anyway thats what I've plotted out so far and I'd love to see this story out there. Of course we need a new pilot (watch this space)and I don't know how they would be involved. Also great scenes with Simon sewing up the man who tried to kidnap his lady love, Festers crew dumping him, sabotage mischeif plotted by Mal and Jayne, Zoe getting way too angry when Fester says some nasty stuff that pertains to Wash. Knock yourself out. CYA

1. watch ross noble dvds 2. watch either have i got news for you or QI. Both also very, very funny and so you can't concentrate. 3. Eat. especially things that run. It gets everywhere and makes the notes look messy. Anyway, I had a fun day yesterday. I was supposed to go to this Irish conference at Sunderland University yesterday with my brother and Andrew, but we got there late after having a three course lunch at a restaurant called Elizabeth's. So instead we spent the afternoon hanging around with Bobby. Then Andrew and Alan came over mine. Isn't it great when you have a moment of clarity. Until about 5am this morning i had absolutely no idea how to answer any of the essay questions for my Reading History module. This morning I woke up and realised that I had an idea of how I could answer one of the questions so now I don't feel like a complete failure. This sort of thing has happened twice, once for Varieties of history and once for Anglo-Saxon England and I got decent marks for those modules, so who know, maybe it'll happen again (touch wood).

My dad was hospitalized yesterday. He went to this shop and was wondering around confused. He didnt know why he was there, how he got there (but his jeep was there so he must have driven), where there was, what day it was or even what time it was. The propitiers where concerned, called the police who in turn got him to the hospital. That morning (at 4:45 am) he had called me in a panic because he thought i had called him because i had an accident and needed his help, and he was trying to find me, I calmed him down and he went back to bed. He then called me an hour later really out of it, and again 20 minutes later thinking it was the day before and i was off to school. So needless to say he was demented. He either has a head injury (most likely from falling in his panic), had a pyschotic break from the stress of thrusday, dreams, and deliousions; had a nervouse break down, same reasons above, or something went really bad with his meds. So now here i am... waiting to see whats going to happen...

It's getting colder in my part of the world. Cold, dark and wet as it's been raining a lot - warm one day, cold the next. Not too cold yet. Down in the 30's maybe tonight. I like this time of year. I always wish I could slow my life down more in the winter. It seems the proper thing to do but ususally isn't possible. I like holing up, dressing warm, having a hot tea, or chai or something, wrapping up in a blanket and reading - also watching an episode of Firefly a few times a week. That's what I'll do this winter. I'm so enjoying this site. It's stimulating, enjoyable and comforting - even the heated discussions on the political (real world) site. I don't have time for much of that in my everyday world - there's so much polarity that it's difficult to engage in a really intelligent exchange of ideas. People get so entrenched in their belief system - it's as if they are in a bubble. Nothing gets in. More monologue than dialogue. Here I can just leave that section if I think the discussion is getting too rigid. But I can also browse and try to get my mind around viewpoints that are dissimilar to mine. Try to understand and make sense of other realities. So this winter season as I move into the darkness I am looking forward to seeing how my newfound love of Firefly speaks to my personal growth path in life. It's my belief that everything we do, see, hear, etc. speaks to us if we listen. So I'll explore this venture, going deeper into the darkness and soar the universe with the crew of Serenity. My own love of martial arts and particularly small women who are powerful, smart and strong - even if slightly crazy - is part of the pull for me. Although I'm past young, I'm still strong and engage in my daily practice, yoga, meditation and marital arts. It's a good match for me. It's also a release and helps me shift out of my job - working with the long term chronically seriouslly mentally ill in a poverty stricken rural area. It helps me stay balanced and not get burned out. People burn out quickly in my line of work. I find myself continually looking for creative ways to make it more useful and interesting for myself and those with whom I work. "Into the Darkness we go, Into the Darkness and Night The Old One stands before us Her voice we hear, She holds our hopes and our fears."

Yesterday. Ten PM. I was in jeans and my Serenity T shirt. I was at Fado's. It was grand. The night progressed. And there I was, in the toilet (not to vomit)for the fifth time and a random chick says "hey, don't mean to bother you, but I just wrote a paper on the fans of Firefly and Serenity." So I had to be excited. And let me tell you, I was. I grinned (strangely to be sure, my cheeks were numb) and said that that was fantastic. I wanted to talk to her more about it, but she was a bit more soused than I and digressed to another topic with another girl. So I left. Thinking about it though, I wonder if perchance I'd run into this chick before on FFF. Seems this is the most popular hang for Brouncoats. Anyhow. Downtown Denver. Fado's Irish Pub. I wore the shirt. She found me. Browncoats rule all.

How about this idea? Make up a bunch of new characters and forge them in to a Firefly-like group over the course of a series of stories. Here's the ones I've got so far Blake Taylor- A six-five african american former bandit. The captian and the engineer. Extremerly carhismatic and intelligent, but prone to violent rages. Did some anti-alliance guerilla work during the last few years of the Unification war.Wrote for an underground rebellion newspaper. About late twenties/early thirties. Ceran Web - His first mate. Is the level headed barginer of the crew always on the look out for a good deal. Not above completly ripping someone off. Very good judge of character. used to be bandit with Blake. Older than he is about mid thirties. Tall, well built woman with close cropped brown hair and striking features. Kusoke Maruto- A teenage asian. Very quiet and only speaks a little english. Blake took him in when they were bandits and he is very grateful forever being over protective of Blake. Can handle himself as well, wields two long knives.Probably abused as a child. small fast and wiry with long messy black hair. watch this space (More coming) A pilot and blakes girlfriend are up next

A metal pig, to be exact. And Alan Tudyk is too! I'm talking, of course, about Chinese Astrology. There are twelve basic Chinese star signs, each based on the year of your birth and each named after an animal. This information is combined with your bith element and, when you get *really* in depth, "hidden" animals based on the month and time you were born. Pigs are shy people who prefer to be in the background. Yes, I did say Nathan and Alan were pigs :D Wikipedia (www.wikipedia.org) also mentions that pigs are patient, straightforward, honest and are usually the most admired of all the signs. Yep, that seems accurate! I'm a fire snake, in case you were wondering. Apparently snakes are the wisest and most enigmatic of all the signs. *feels wise and enigmatc* Check out your own sign at Wikipedia! You may be surprised.

I've been wanting to draw something new for the BSR lately but I can't figure out what. So far I've pretty much just drawn Mal and River. They're my favorite characters so that makes sense but I'd really like to try someone new. Or several someones. Any requests?

Sorry this one is going slowly. I'm finding less and less time to write as I near the end of the year. I will post whenever I can.

I've been messing around (mostly inside my own mind) with the idea of a human exodus from earth-that-was, and have figured why it is that River is telepathic...i think. Whenever a population looses a vast amount of its genepool (say, when a boatload of peoples arrive on a new island and create a new civilisation), its called a population bottleneck. Its the same thing with the amish people, as they rarely have children with people outside of the amish community, meaning a smaller gene pool. This means that minor genetic fluctuations from person to person are becoming amplified. This is just science; the way that certain genetic conditions are of higher prevelance in isolated communities. If telepathy, or telepathic traits were-at some level-genetic (as opposed to chemical or enviromental), and assuming that not the entire population of earth-that-was travelled to the system for whatever reason, then its is possible that a population bottleneck has occoured, increasing the genetic likelihood of telepathy. That may lead on to a story i write in the future, regarding the denial that some (many) were left behind on earth-that-was, which may explain why Earth is discussed in almost mythical terms, and why so little remnants of the past exist

I was asked about my future trip to China, which I would love to talk about, by somebody in some thread, somewhere, but I totally forget where and that's no good to anybody. I think I'll worry about that later. Anyway, I'm just looking for Winston-Salem, NC Browncoats. I want to maybe get together and watch Firefly or Serenity and talk about the best dang series in the 'verse. I hear a lot of people talking about NC stuff on here, but I don't feel like driving all the way to Raleigh just to get my fix. Sooooo, any Browncoats in Winston or Charlotte for that matter, hit me up on here, and maybe we can work something out.

I think I'll create a Holiday card to post to everyone here. Now I've opened my big mouth and have to commit to it. It won't be very fancy. Just some Firefly shot with Merry Something on it and Ho Ho Ho. But just to wish everybody the best season. So now to decide what scene in Firefly is festive. Wish me luck finding one. Maybe an upside down cow.

Adam Baldwin (Jayne) is on the new series called "Day Break" premiering November 15. It premiers on ABC here in Canada but check your listens. I am totally excited. All you fellow Adam Baldwin lovers out there swoon with me. Grasp your tv screen and never let go!

Now looking back on my trip I realized that I had Firefly everywhere around me. Besides having the movies and the soundtracks playing in my car, in California I passed a Jayne Ave. going down Interstate 5. All the desert I was passing through looked like Firefly sets. In Texas, I went through a small town called Vera and saw a Shepherd's Lane. Plus, in my housing area there's a Canton Court and my son goes to kindergarten with a girl named Kaylee. coincidence? call me crazy.

Hey All I couldn't find the thread that had everyone's pet peeves about fanfics on it, so I decided to create my own blog that touched on that. One recent thing that I noticed in a lot of fanfic that's starting to piss me off is the 'Zoe pregnant' fanfic. The story descriptions are usually "Post-BDM. Zoe's pregnant with Wash's baby". And the story always goes that they discover that Zoe and Wash conceived a child like days or weeks before Wash gets impaled by a Reaver harpoon. And it's a bittersweet moment becuase it makes the whole crew sad to think Wash isn't around to be a dad or some bullshit like that. I hate this type of story because it's so hokey and melodramatic, and unrealistic. It reeks of newbie fanfic writer and it's just so convenient in it's attempt to wrap up the whole "will Wash and Zoe start a family in space" plotline that was introduced very late in the series. It's just a cheap and lazy plot device that should be gotten rid of. You can knock Kaylee and Inara up with as many kids as you want. I could care less. River I'm willing to suspend my disbelief. But not Zoe. Unless if Wash froze a sample of his sperm, then maybe I'll buy it. But unitl then, Zoe should just move on. Have her meet another widower. That's more realistic in my mind. Or if she is pregnant, then have her go for an abortion. That would be a hell of a lot more interesting. Anyone else agree with that?

Here I am at it again, after a bit of writer's block. Been trying to sort out a ton of different things in my life, and I haven't been able to make coherent storylines in my head. Not that everything is sorted out, not by a damn sight, that would make me just way too much of a shiny happy person, but I am in a holding pattern right now, so I will fill in the empty spaces with some storytelling. You'll all be happy to know I am going back to form, with our BDH's being drawn as decent but deeply flawed people, doing God-awful things for good reasons. Dark and disturbing are coming back to town (not that Annabelle or Reconsider Me were happy tales), and they are bringing violence with them! I've got more work to do, but I hope you'll all be satisfied.

I'm on travel for work right now. I'm stuck in a hotel room in Bloomington Indiana and it's raining outside. I just want to go home.... By the way, I think Inara and Ashley Judd look a like.

Sure there wasn't alot of scene's with him in it. But any show with Tay Diggs and Adam Baldwin is good enough to watch and drool. I think the show was great, even if Adam Baldwin is a bad guy. Hey but so is Jayne is some ways. I give it 10 out of 10 votes for hottness!!!

Just had a garbled message from husband saying he wants to pull out of house-move, had enough, grr-argh, etc. No further explanantion and he's turned his phone off. I am stuck in work, a refrigerated shop, with the beginnings of a migraine, and no way to reach anybody who can tell me anything sensible. My boss has buggered off and left me in charge, pretty much until Xmas. No extra pay, just 'grateful thanks.' Husband is going off on another work trip for a week or so in the middle of this. There are just days when I want to go back to bed. I'm fairly resilient normally, but I just feel pummelled today. What with my work, husband's work, the house thing, I can't get any writing done. And a writer with writer's block inflicted by other folk is not a pretty thing to be anywhere near. Why can't people just do waht they are supposed to do, without game-palying, lying, brinkmanship or just plain bloody-mindedness? It's grey, wet, dark and cold, and I really can't be bothered with anyone else's crap right now.
Thursday, 16 November 2006 14:00:09
Hey All I'm surprised at the reaction that I got from my previous blog. Like I said, the only reason I posted it as a blog was because I couldn't find an earlier thread that had everyone talking about their individual pet peeves in regards to fanfics. I guess context really is key in stuff like that. I didn't mean to come off as really angry about this. I'm not a negative poster at all. If I read a fanfic that I don't like, I don't post anything. THat stupid thing about "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all" that my Mom drilled into my head as a kid stuck with me. So for the most part, I just bypass any stories I think are weak and focus on the stronger stories. All I was really saying is that particular storyline to me just seems uninspired. Now if a fanfic writer takes that and actually makes it interesting, then I'd reconsider. But for the time being, it's not exactly one of my fave storylines. And Blue, thank you for noticing "You Can't Go Home Again". I think I know what three cliche's you're talking about, but I'm glad that you picked up on the fact that I go different ways with each one of them to make the story more interesting. YCGHA I guess is my response to another popular fanfic storyline (Tam's coming home) that I've seen done the same way over and over again. And rather than bitch about it, I wrote an entire story as a reaction to that. Maybe I should put my money where my mouth is. Peace

I took my Firefly DVD's to college on wednesday, on a whim, and hooked one of my friends into buying Firefly! It was GREAT, he immediately noticed that Joss didn't use any sound in space, and loved the new idea! I've done it fellow Browncoats, I've brought a newbie into the fold!

You know these days I have been relating to our beloved crew a lot lately. I am still in job search mode and though I have had a lot of interviews no one wants me back. It is getting a little discouraging you know. But I just keep thinking of Mal and the crew going from job to job, trying to find a new one to keep Serenity togther and keep flying into the Black. So I will take heart and not give up after all I am still Flyin and though it may not seem like much its enough. On a brighter note I have been watching an episode a night to try to make it last longer and I am happy to say my Firefly withdrawls have come to an end. So heres to all of my fellow browncoats who wear that dusty brown coat with pride and long to sail the stars in a Firefly.

Every year at least 18 transgendered individuals around the world are brutally murdered for just being who they are. I myself am gay, and while i am not personally transgendered, i know a few and the thought of anyone hating so much hurts. No one deserve that hatred, not me, not my cousin, no one. This is for the fallen, and for those who are still there to mourn. May we all be able to stand up and say no more, thats enough, we are all human beings and no matter what we are we deserve to be who we are and to leave as much as anyone else out there does. Hi there, The title is from a newspaper article i read about a bloke from Thornley who went crazy, beat up a pub landlord, spilt whisky and threw a parrot on the fire. It amused me. I was at Durham Cathedral today. 'Twas fun. I also volunteered to help out at the advent fair. That'll probably be boring 'cos they're opening the monk's dormitory. Spent quite a bit of the morning gutting Sites of Memory, Sites of Mourning so I can write a book review. Also have to finish my presentation for Tuesday. I was at the Durham County Records Office on Thursday. I had no idea what I was looking for so I ended up looking up baptismal records of my family. I'm also at the hospital a week on Thursday for yet another outpatients appointment. You'd think after 7 years my ear would be better. But no. Well that's all I have to say TTFN Jennifer

Hi, everybody! As my last blog said, I'm not spending much time here this month because I'm trying to write a 50,000-word novel. (See www.nanowrimo.org for more details.) I'm happy to report that I'm at 32,000 words! I never realized how much discipline this would take or how much of the rest of my life would seemingly disappear while I'm doing it. It's not easy, but I think it's probably good for me. I've had some days where I had absolutely no idea what to write, but I forced out those 1,7000 words anyway. Needless to say, it won't be Shakespeare, but I'm trying to keep it from being completely awful. I've been lurking here quite a lot; it's my reward when I finish the day's words. I'm sorry I haven't been posting much, but I want to thank everyone who has been because it's keeping me sane (at least as sane as I can be considered, lol). 18,000 more words to go!

Not much in the way of fic writing. Sad to say, I've got other projects sapping up my creative enegery. School Dinner Theater production, Drama Class (for which I can't wait to do monolouges, hoping to pull something out of Firefly), a little story-type thing of my own (Main female character designed to, were it made a movie, be played by Summer Glau.) However, I've been pouring all my pursuasive engery into converting new recruits...so I'm gonna give a little update on how that's coming. My mom's roommates' son's girlfriend is now my mom's roommates' son's ex-girlfriend. Thus...not sure how I'll be getting her Firefly. Clay has my copy of Serenity. Havn't gotten it back yet, nor spoken with him much on it. If he dosen't watch it soon, I'm gonna ask to go over and watch it WITH him along with at least a disk worth of eposodes. Speaking of a disk worth of eposodes, Lorrann borrowed disk three over a weekend. When she returned it, I asked what she thought. She responded by looking at me and, trying really hard not to laugh, and saying "I can kill you with my brain" we both cracked up laughing. Since then, whenever we do one of our dialouge-based role-plays, we're in the Firefly 'verse. More to come. Grandma needs her compurter. BTW, Grandpa's already a browncoat. Reminds me of Book some too. Edit: Not much actual progress beyond what I told you, though I have a long list of potential recruits. Class party tonight, hanging out with a bunch of friends or a friend that I ran the base concept behind Firefly by. Had a pretty Shiny reaction. 'course all I mentioned was the formation of the Alliance and departure from earth. Might run back home for a disk before tonight. OH! My friend Chelsea has already seen the BDM complemets of another browncoat (who SO reminds me of Wash) and I'm planning on introducing her to the series sometime this week. If I can get her even half as obsessed with Firefly as she is with Ninja Turtles, she'll make an awesome browncoat.

Hi there! I very much doubt that anyone will actually read this... but what the hell i'll say it anyway. My fanfic series, which centres around the Operative's replacement (the Hunter, named for reasons explained in the series) and his serach for the BDHs so that he can achieve vengeance against them (most particularly Mal and River) for breaking the faith of his predessor. He also has a secret of his own which will add a nasty little twist to the proceedings as well as making his character a bit more interesting (i hope). The series begins with 'Live by the sword, Die by the sword' and continues with the various chapter entries of 'The Hunter and The Hunted' starting with a prologue. Please send me a message on this site if you enjoy them. Yay

I just wrote my first fanfic! It's a Simon and Kaylee thing but Mal and River do appear in the story. It takes place the second "Serenity" the movie ends, it's pretty short just to get a feel for the characters. I would really appreciate if people read it and gave me some feedback so I can see where I wanna go with it. It's called "Going Well" and it can be found in the Blue Sun Room and in my profile. Also if anyone is willing to beta for me seeing as I have none I would appreciate that. Big Damn Thank You to anyone who comments  Little Damn Thank You if you at least took the time to read it  As for the rest of you :disappointed:...

Hi folks. We did get more news from the doctors, or more accurately, from a doctor who wasn't affiliated with the hospital and cancer center mom was going to. The cancer is from the same uterine cancer that she had a year and a half ago that they were suppose to be following up on all this time. What they were doing on these "check ups" I'm seriously wondering about. The cancer has matasticized (sp?) and is inoperable and chemo won't do much for getting rid of it either. The doctors, when pressed, have finally admitted that it's terminal. Mom was in the hospital for six days. On the last day we enrolled her in hospice. The hospice has been great. They were over at the house less than a half an hour after Mom got home from the hospital. They've gotten her meds that are actually working for the pain and nausea, have gotten her equiptment (hospital bed, shower chair) to help make her more comfortable and safe while at home. I've been up both of the past weekends. Mom's okay with dying; she seems more upset about the nausea and pain actually. Strong faith is a wonderous thing. Thanks again for all the support. It's very comforting to know you all are here. *hugs fff.net denizens*

There is some controversy with the 'Verse. That is, what is is? How is it organized? Is is a single solar system with one star at it's center, or a solar system with several stars in it? One of the reasons for this controversy is an image presented in the movie, 'Serenity'. Sometimes referred to as the 'Teacher's map'

My Oma passed away yesterday... and I'm not taking it well... and I just don't think I'm gonna be around for a bit...

Well my uncle Edwin just passed today. He had been fighting a long battle with cancer that finally got the best of him. I never knew him personally but my mom is very upset. She'll be going to Alberta for his funeral soon, so it'll just be me and my dad (which will probably be a total disaster). It really sucks to see my mom this way, she is the youngest of 9 so it probably won't be the last time this happens. :(

Ok so this whole idea is changing somewhat. I'm ditching those characters for a time. Maybe use them in something else or just use bits of them in my new idea. My cousin and I came up with the idea of writing a new series and using each epsisode as flashbacks for the various characters. (kinda like Lost). Anyway these guys would be a really brutal, dark bunch, into drug running, gun smuggling, organised hits, smuggling human cargo (slaves aand organs). How we make them likable is have the bad guys even worse like that Fed from The Message. We have a ship lined up and charactchers and the first Ep kinda plotted as well as some ideas. Also check out the Indie Canadian production of 'Into the Black' set in the 'Verse. Its sorta inspirational. (if anyone from there reads this- You did all the hard work, just need to inprove, Sound, Script and Acting. Apart from that it was pretty damn awesome. Nice to see someone going ahead with stuff.)

Heres some scenes I wrote for an Ep of Firefly. the premise is that Jayne and River get captured by slavers and the whole crew have to work together to get them out. Eventually they have to enlist the help of the Alliance to free the two. Liked the idea of Jayne and River being locked in a small space together. (River beats him up several times) and of Mal having to call in the Alliance. Also Simon demands to go along on the rescue mission, causing more conflict. Haven't decided if this is before or after they get a new pilot (watch this space) ________________________________________________ Scene: River and Jayne in prison. Opening shot- Close up Jayne’s face, eyes closed. He opens them. MWS: He sits up, groans, looks around, rubs his leg, we see the dark and sticky blood and hasty bandage on his leg wound. The cell is dark, but we can see a small set of steps, and a corridor outside the cell. The cell is rather large suited to holding perhaps ten or more. J: Gorram it. He spots River’s dark shape lying crumpled on the steps. He picks up a small stone and throws it at her. There is no reaction. J: (Hissed) Hey… moonbrain. There is no reaction. Jayne looks worried, then annoyed. He crawls painfully over to her dragging his injured leg. Grabs River by the shoulder and shakes her. J: Wake up, girly. River opens her eyes suddenly and sits up. Jayne jumps in shock. R: Its very dark in here. J: Whadda you want me to do about it? R: (hold her head suddenly, wincing) My head hurts. J: You and me both. The camera slowly pans out on River as she hugs her knees to her chest, head hunched over them. R: Its very dark in here. Scene: Simon and Mal argue about who lost River. Mal, Inara and Zoe are playing cards. Mal: (to Inara) It was very gracious of you to leave that comfortable shuttle of yours to come among us lesser folk for a time. Inara: The shuttle gets constricting after a time. And Zoe’s not one of those lesser folk you’re referring too there, Captain? Zoe: (playing a card) Not since I just won the hand I suppose I’m not. M: Tsuao Gu! Enter Kaylee and Simon. Simon is weighed down with several shopping bags. I: (to Kaylee) Oh, you’re back. Did you have nice time? Simon: I’ve never spent so long in dress shop. Kaylee: Oh, yeah. Simon bought me lots of nice things. (to Mal) And I got that new Suppression Coil we needed Cap’n. M: (Taking a drink) Shiny. At least the trip wasn’t a complete waste of time. I:(to Mal) Be nice. (She stands) (to Kaylee) Come on and show me. (to Mal and Zoe) Let Simon take my place. Inara and Kaylee leave taking some of the bags with them. Z: (Shuffling the deck) You in Doctor? Simon has been looking around the whole time S: (Slowly) Where is River? Mal stops suddenly with his cup halfway to his mouth. M: I thought she was with you. S: She was supposed to be with you. M: She didn’t leave with us. Didn’t come back with us neither. S: You’ve lost her! (Strides forward toward Mal.) M: (Stands and glares at Simon) She ain’t my sister. S: I left her in your care. M: Sounds to me like you forgot her. Simon swears in Chinese and steps closer to Mal. Zoe stands and quickly pushes Simon back softly. Z: Don’t start somethin’ you can’t finish Doc. I’m sure River is fine wherever she is. Maybe she came back without anyone noticing. Simon nods slowly. S: I’ll check the engine room. (Exits) Z: (Looks at Mal) I’ll get the others to help search. (Exits) M: (Softly) Gorramit girl, what have you got me into now. (Exits) ________________________________________________ Anyhow let me know what you reckon- cheers -BEB I think I fixed all the spelling

Yep, my orignal Firefly DVD Set has clonked it. (both the first and second ones are problomatic) :crap: Put it in a DVD player and it starts f*cking up (freezing, jumping, etc). Not good when you hand it too your Western/Joss Whedon/Sci Fi loving relative who's never heard of it before... still, thing has been passed around a few different people in the past year, so it had too happen eventually.. That, and Number 2 is already on its way!!!! HUZZAH!!!!

Finally, I have this story finished! Storytelling typically comes fairly easy to me, when the nugget of idea forms in my head, the rest just sort of flows. This was a labour, though. Not becuase I didn't enjoy doing it, becuase I did. I think that the reason may be the fact that, in my opnion, this story makes "A River Taken" seem like a cheery tale. Of course, I love doing this, it's up to all of you to decide if it's any good. Anyhow, I hope you enjoy it. It's good to post again!

Everybody I know hates the theme song to Firefly. I don't know what it is. Even people who like the show. I love that theme song, sometimes, I listen to it over and over, and watch the credits roll by. Sometimes, I play it on the ol' Lappy until I find something else to do. Sometimes, while my siblings are attacking me full out, to get the remote, I play it and sing it stoicly through clenched teeth. That actually happened once, actually. Anyway, I'm actually supposed to be talking about something else, but I totally zoned out on this beginning thing, and I have no idea what it was. Dang. I hate it when I do that. Just sit tight, and um, maybe it'll come back to me. Someday.

I suffered through, uh, I mean, I went through my first full-blown critique of my first short story in my Creative Writing class on Monday. It wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. People made valid comments. The most important thing I learned: I need to stop telling when I should be showing. That one keeps getting me. And since the prof said the only way I'm going to stop is through practice, I thought I would read some books outside of my usual repertoire to see how the pros write. I know it won't help me completely (I think the best way would be a Pavlov's dog approach; someone needs to hit me every time I do a telling statement instead of a showing one ), but it'll be good for me to check out some other writing styles and see if I get inspired during the Christmas break. So, suggest a book for me. And it can't be sci-fi, fantasy, or horror. I read that kind of stuff all the time. Unless you think this book is the most awesomest thing ever then maybe I'll check it out. And possibly no bestsellers. I have no ambition to read The Da vinci Code, though mainly because the thing looks really long and I won't have that much time.

I`have lost my keys, not only to my home but to where I work. Not everybody at work is happy with me because I overslept (I have done that twice in two years) and I would hate to have to tell them that the key is gone. So if there is any psychic brown coats out there.. No.. ah well. Was at a comic quiz yesterday. It was my first quiz and my team lost but it was fun anyway. Found out that I know a lot less than I thought about Donald Duck. Its amazing what kind and the amount of knowledge some people have. Ill take them next time... and if there ever will be a buff or a tv quiz. I would be queen.

I just wanted to say to anyone who accesses these pages that I am so glad you read my fics. I have been writing for a while, and although these are the first scribblings that I have dared to upload, I am astounded by the friendliness of the FFN members. I shouldn't be, I know, as we're all Browncoats to the core, but it has often made a grey day suddenly bright to see someone has taken the time to comment on one of my stories, and even find that I have regular readers! So take this from me, to you, as a big thankyou, and a request to keep them coming! I even try to incorporate some of the suggestions, but if I don't please don't stop.

Hey All I just got some big news. Well, not really big news, I've known about it for some time, but this just confirms it. My brother is in the military. He's in the reserves as a member of the com squad unit. And he told me like last week that he might be going over to Afghanistan for a tour. Now, as horrible it may sound, it actually isn't that bad. It's mostly an administrative position, so he'll be around the base for the most part. Basically, nowhere near the front line. He'd be gone for about 8 months, which is from beginning of Nov to probably around my 22nd birthday, which'll be next Sept 2nd. And apparantly, the pay is incredible. I've been told somewhere north of 40k. I had known about it a while, and I was thinking about what it would mean if he actually were to go and how that would impact the both of us. So I had already resigned myself to the idea that he was going. But a few minutes ago, after I got in from running around the city doing stuff for a project, I noticed a message on the machine. I played it and it was from a Sgt. of his. I get his lazy ass out of bed and play the message for him, he calls and he starts training for going to Afghanistan on Monday. It's weird. It's almost anticlimactic that he gets this call, since we both knew he was going. This just confirms it. But it still feels werid on my end. My brother and I had lived in the same vicinity our entire lives. We shared a room as kids, a dorm room as teenagers and a house as college students. He's always been there, y'know. Normally, if he's ever gone for long periods of time because of the military, it's over the summer for about four months. But this time, he'll actually be gone for 2/3rd of the year. And when he gets back, he'll actually have enough money to get his own apartment. Which is good, because when Matt goes, we're going to move his stuff into storage at the farm and rent the room out to a new tenant. So we'll have two new roomies in the house by the beginning of next year. We had talked about it earlier, and he's OK with it. I guess I can understand Simon's plight now with River a little further. Even without the Academy cutting into her brain to turn her into a psychic assassin, that separation from your sibling after living an entire lifetime together is going to be really tough. En shallah (God willing) and Peace

It's Thanksgiving and I'm not going over to my uncles house for the feast until 4:30 and this is more fun anyway. A lot has happened since my last blog. I relized that WORD does not recinize the words blog, website or chatroom. My friend also got mad at me over something stupid. Here is how it happened. Me and one of my other friend had a walk that we made up as an inside joke about the movie TITANIC. My best friend who is mad wanted us to show her how to do the walk and tell her what the joke was. I said that I couldn't tell her because inside jokes are ment to be kept secret. When I said that she said so much for friendship. M and my other friend explained that she could make up an inside joke of her own that we couldn't know the meaning of, but she didn't want to hear it. The next day I waited for her so we could walked to school, but she was late and in the end I walked without her. She got to school late and when i saw her she grimaced at me. Then she just plain avoided me. We fight a lot so I decided to wait. We would always make up. That was DAYS ago. Just yesterday I sent her an E-mail. In it i said that becuase she likes to ignore people that she is mad at and I am always the one to make us friends again that this time it was her call whether or not we stay friends anymore. Because she didn't want to talk to me and I expected her to just E-mail me back i was careful to tell her to let me know in person. Even though i don't i told her that i trsted her to make a good decision. In a way i think if she wants to keep fighting then i don't want to stay her friend. But she does try to pretend to like Firefly which is nice sometimes but it would also nice if she could just cut the act because i would rather talk to someone who is as passonite about Firefly and Serenity as I am. Anyone with any ideas on what i should do about this little delema please post a comment.

I've been sick for the past 2 days which sucks, but I've been able to squeeze out a few fics and I'm very excited. They'll be up in the Blue Sun Room as soon as I get a beta reader to edit them a bit. They'll be titled You're Beautiful, Interesting Day (this one I'm not so I'm sure of we'll have to see) and the last one is called Captainy Things which is the continuation of Going Well. I also have a bunch of ideas for my series, I think I've discovered my muse!!!

Just a second ago i was trying to send that friend some more e-mails of some of our favorite song lyrics and i was also considering telling her about my great day in Clifton Hill. i logged on to the site, but when i tried to go to e-mail my slow, windows 95, dial up computer could not find the server. i think that the e-mail on that site is down! so annoying, but i can always send the e-mails tomorrow i guess. im just worried that she won't check her e-mail and won't get the e-mail that i alredy did send her. Below are some of the lyrics i was going to send. "dearly beloved are you listening, i can't remember a word that you were saying, are we demented or am i disturbed, the space thats in between insane and insecure" "oh therapy can you please fill the void, am i retarded or am i just overjoyed, nobodys perfect and i stand accused for lack of a better word and thats my best excuse" -dearly beloved green day "i don't feel any shame, i won't apoligize, when there is nowhere you can go, running away from pain when you've been victimized, tales from another broken home" -tales from another broken home green day "and i leave behind this hurricane of f'ing lies" -tales from another broken home green day "move along, move along jut to make it through, move along" -move along the all-american rejects i thought that mabey if i showed her the fun that we had had as friends then we would stay friends.

Well, we're a little closer to being able to move. Not there yet. May not pan out before winter's over at this rate. We did get our shed relocated to our intended abode today. It's 12x15 or thereabouts, and is quite useful. It's been a storage shed, a chicken coop, and a storage shed again. Most recently it was adopted by a squirrel unbeknown to us and therefore was storage for a bushel or so of black walnuts. The furry thing was evicted without incident. Hopefully it will not take up residence in the house. We aren't any closer to putting our house on the market at present because we're not able to move in to Dad's. Maybe sometime after December 8, but there's no telling. To think we started the process before April. No, don't think about it. It's better that way. Just DON'T THINK ABOUT IT. There, all better. (twitch) Having a glass of tawny port and getting ready to read CS Lewis to my son before his bedtime arrives. I'm trying to come up with a way to bring my fic series to a point at which it can change direction a bit, but gently.

I got called to task quite sternly yesterday for some of my writing content. By this point, those of you who have been following my fics know better than to expect roses and sunshine out of me. Not that I am some nihilistic sadist here, I just like to explore the darker side of the 'Verse, and push these characters a little further. However, when I posted "A River Taken", it was only my second fic posting, and no one really knew what to expect. I felt that I had warned sufficiently, and avoided any terribly graphic depictions (certainly nothing like Jayne's enraged explosion towards the end of "The Final Cut"). However, as it was pointed out, I didn't give this person enough warning. I have no intentions of changing my writing style, or the subject matter within it. I will make my warnings more explicit in the future. The first thing I want to say to the individual involved is "I'm Sorry." The second thing is this: the last thing I really want to have is bad feelings and a pissing match with anyone out here. To me, that just isn't the Browncoat way.

No, this isn't a report on my love life (I wish).... No, it's to report that I've made a new recruit to the Brownocat ranks. Well, not me actually, but the shiny FF boxset and the BDM. Was mentioning a few weeks backs about how great a show Firefly is and got a friend intrigued enough to want to watch disc 1 of the boxset. He liked it, borrowed disc 3 (on my recommendation to see OoG and WS) and that did it for him big time. Then I see him today and he tells me he saw the BDM and totally LOVED it. Then he re-borrowed disc 3 of FF to show some of his family members who also loved the BDM. I'll have 'em all bedecked in brown in no time...

Well, it's the day after the funeral for my grandmother and I think I took it quite well. Only a little sobbing, just a bit. >.> Had enough hugs to last me a lifetime. My ribs still hurt. Seen a lot of people I haven't seen in so very long. Good to see such smiling faces with all the kind words. My family seems to be taking it all quite well. Even though it was very sudden I think we'll get through this one. Thank you to everyone here for all the words of encouragement and all the backing. What a shiny bunch of Browncoats y'all are. Think I'll start getting back 'round this place. Hugs and love to all of you!

Thought I would update those of you that can't look away from the traincrash that is my life. Work is good. Exhausting. Fired a little asshole yesterday. That was not nice. Kids are good. #1 and borrowed girl work at the mall. They work at 2 of the same stores and then BG works at another one. Anyway, on Thanksgiving night they went into one store at 1130 and worked until 830 the next morning, then BG went to her other job from 9-3 and then the both went to the last job from 33-midnight. I was not happy, especially when I realized they both had to be at work this am at 10. But they have survived and will have a nice paycheck (time and a half for 18 hours of work for #1 and 24 for BG. :) As for the ASSHOLE. He took the skank AND her 18 year old daughter up to Michigan to see the grandparents. Didn't even bother to ask his own kids if they wanted to see their beloved great grandmother. He should burn in hell. But not before 10000 locusts infest his personal bits.

Greetings Programs - I'm totally procrastinating right now. The five page paper this time is for the history of the English Language. It's not the twenty fifth hour just yet. But I have deadlines people. Thursday night, the family, cousins, aunts, uncles and I watched the BDM on an HD wall mounted plasma screen (not mine, my aunt's/uncle's). For some reason the intensity, violence, and gore all came to the forefront. The humor seemed quite understated, almost not even registering on this viewing. Still, the family all loved it. Today I watched "Bushwacked" for old time sake. I love that episode. I'd give it a higher than 8 rating. Anyway, you browncoats take it easy. I'm gonna sip up the caffiene. yum yum. SS

I went to Burger King today for some chicken sandwiches. I had a two for one coupon. I heard "Rain Song" on the radio and remembered all the conversations I had with old friends about Houses of the Holy being at least one of the better Zeppelin albums, if not the best. It definitely had one of my favorite song sequences in it. I thought about how great the weather had been for the Thanksgiving weekend, and how this next week is supposed to be all grey and rainy again. Robert Plant crooned and wailed as I drove by the newspaper office, the in-patient hospital, the Blockbuster, the real estate office and the army recruiting office. The line was short in the drive thru. David Surrette came on the radio playing his Irish folk tunes. I thought about standing on a green hill and watching Serenity fly away into the clouds and beyond the atmostphere. On the way back I drove cautiously behind a drunk driver in a Corrola who couldn't stay in his lane. I got home, put in "Bushwacked" and ate like a king. I'm not a healthy eater by any means.

Ever since I've become a 'Verse-obsessed Browncoat, my wife, a fan of nothing sci-fi, has politely put up with the time and money expenditures (since she's an English teacher, it's easy to get away with books...) but she's had no interest in watching FF or the BDM. Today she was out running errands with her mom (we're all heading off to NYC next week for a few days and need warm gear the likes you can't often find easily in central/south Florida) and I popped in the FF DVDs. Anyway, she came home shortly near the end of "Serenity" and asked me if I was watching what she thought I was watching, since I caught almost every showing of the BDM on HBO lately, and I said no, I'm watching the actual series, and started up the Train Job episode before she realized it was a DVD that could easily be switched off. We're eating dinner when I happen to notice her watching the show...glancing at first, and then actually watching it...laughing when Jayne goes down from the dope Simon gave him, gasping when Crow met the engine, and laughing again when Mal explains his POV to Niska Henchman #2. Seizing on the opportunity, I play Bushwacked as well, and she starts asking questions...I tell her about Kaylee and Simon, Simon and River, Wash and Zoe ("they're married? That'd never happen," she says) And that's where we left off...but with a 25 hour train ride to NYC in the immediate future, and me controlling the portable DVD player, guess what I'll be having a marathon of :)

...blows goats. We're withdrawing from the house sale. We got our survey back. Words like 'damp' and 'woodworm'. Of course, the first words out of my mouth were 'We nearly paid money for this? On purpose?' Guess the previous folks didn't do a good enough survey themselves and now they've got themselves stuck with a money pit. Luckily husband is a 'belt'n'braces' type who insisted on an in-depth survey. So, I guess that means I'm stuck in a small house with inadequate dial-up and a desk in the hallway for the forseeable. Go-se. Still, it means I can unpack some of my books and settle down to some quality weirdfic. The last chapter has been a pig. But big thanks to ArtemisPrime, who bullied me gently but unmercifully until I pulled my finger out. I'm too paranoid to have a beta, but I did bounce a few ideas around, and I know where I'm going (but I don't know where I've been, and I know what I'm knowing...sorry, channeling David Byrne for a second there). I've said it before, I'm going to keep going until forcibly stopped here. My errant muse has been bundled back on a plane and returned (thanks StinkingRose:biggrin: ) so I guess i better get cracking, as it were. You ain't read nothin' yet. It's cough medicine season. Let crackfic abound!

So, I just finished a good chunk of writing this freaking term paper. I guess I'm realizing its crunch time; meaning, i stop most other extra -curricular activities except for drinking after projects get done, and wretching on the back of the porch. Sorry, too much info. I know this paper sucks. It's not atrocious, but its mediocre to the point of falling somewhere between crap-tacular and pure drivel. It was supposed to be about the invasions/occupations of the Roman, Germanic, and Norse peoples regarding the History of English language. Unfortunately it lacked the "epiphany" type sense of arrival I was hoping to get at. Nothing in my research yielded anything close to what I was hoping to find. Not that I put so much stock in writing essays for class I'm gonna fall over with grief. I'm gonna have to start tearing stuff out of symbols and turn it into paper, like the lady says. Anyway, I have this urge to watch season 7 Buffy ep's, which i normally reserve for summer weekends and spring break type deals. Comfort viewing no doubt. Andrew's video ep. was stellar.

[rant] Everything went wrong today at work. The main server died, a client died, a tournament went unsanctioned, my pizza's cold!!! and I think I've gone insane. [/rant] On the upside, things are now somewhat back to normal, after cannibalizing my own computer to get the server back up and running.

Thwarting the usual monday grogginess with A.M. AM humor, I pushed the downs this morning even further away with caffiene and breakfast on the road. Then I walked through the main lobby of one of the buildings on campus and realized there's no time like the quiet of the morning. One could say the weather was almost balmy today. These winters here in Indiana are becoming mild. I hope I'm not speaking too soon. What, this isn't banal enough for ya? Eat it. :finger: One of these years I'm gonna have time to finally sit down and write that album I keep thinking of - the lo-fi one with plenty of track bouncing and obscure lyrics. Until then I have to finish school and find a job, amongst other things. And I love you, I love you all.

Thanksgiving was a wonderful experience this year...a bit odd without a wife beside me, but it was nice to be able to host my family at my house. We of course ate way too much and ended up in a food coma, but it was worth it! I realized again how thankful I was that I was introduced to Firefly, and that I found this site. Time for the sappy part...I love my Browncoat family, and I am very thankful for each and every one of you! You have made life a brighter place! Now to the Independent Army stuff. This was an idea I had been tossing around, and when finally prodded into making a post, I was quite pleased with the results! Apparently, I am not the only one interested in this concept. For those that don't know, this is what I mean:

For as long as I can remember, I've been fascinated with names and their meanings. As a kid I whiled away endless hours reading those mugs and keyrings you can buy with a person's name and a witty poem about its meaning. I've even bought baby name books just so I can look up a name's meaning whenever the mood strikes me. Not that you can always trust a baby name book. Just about every book and website translates Linda as "pretty." Which it is... in Spanish, but that's not where the name comes from. Linda actually comes from the Germanic, and translates as "snake!" Naturally most books go for the "nicer" translation over the more accurate one, and to be fair most parents take the name with the Spanish translation in mind. Or so my Mum swears anyway. Still, learning my own name's meaning gave me an interest in accurately translating the names of others. Mal's name is particularly interesting. As River mentioned before, the word "mal" itself means "bad" in Latin. The full name, Malcolm, is Celtic and is usually translated as "disciple of Saint Columba." Nothing much interesting about that, you'd think, even if Columba was a bit more colourful than the average Saint. But once again the books and websites miss out on something important - they don't translate Columba's own name. Columba, or "Colm" in modern Ireland, means "dove." Which means that Mal's name translates literally as "follower of the dove." And the dove, of course, is an almost universal symbol for peace and has been for centuries. So Mal, a man stuck in a war he lost years ago, unable to stop fighting, has a name that describes searching for peace - following the dove. Not that I'm saying for a second that Joss knew about this, but it's damn interesting all the same. If you're me, anyway.

OK i was looking around and saw that alot of ppl are for the Jayne-Kaylee relationship. and i have to say i think i agree with the ppl that say its a brotherly love, also with Simon poor Jayne doesnt stand a chance. what ever happened to the saying opposites attract? cuz personally i wanted to see Jayne and River get together. Now that the secret of Miranda came out she isn't going to drive Jayne mad with her random outbursts and Jayne is a sucker for a hot body and who can say that River isnt that? maybe in the next movie.......

I'm not even sure that I should be putting this here, but I'm feeling really down after thanksgiving. Sure, it was nice to go home and see the family, but now I just feel kinda empty inside. I'm back at school, and everything is crazy because there's only two weeks until finals. But I can't focus. In the quiet moments when there's nothing distracting me from my own thoughts, I just want to cry, scream, do something to show some sort of emotion, but I can't. It's like I'm numb inside. I almost wonder if what I feel is loneliness, from being with family and friends and then going back to school where I am completely and utterly alone, but at the same time, I know it isn't. As awful as it sounds, I'm used to loneliness. I'm alone for 8 months out of the year. And yet at the same time, I'm surrounded by people. Why can't I just be happy? Why do I have such an inability to meet people out here? As River says, "What am I?" I don't know what I'm saying......I never know what I'm saying.

Well its dark here in the north and its getting colder. Its Christmas soon. Its kinda stressful with all the things that has to be done before then, but its like that every year..

I finally learned how to incorporate forward and reverse links into my Fics. Took a little time but all chapters are updated. I hope this makes reading my attempt at a screenplay more enjoyable and a little easier to navigate. Many thanks to everyone who's taken the time to read and comment. All comments, good and not so good make my writing better. Rob O.

hey there, I've just spent 3 1/2 hours writing notes on the living and working conditions of durham miners 1919-39, whilst watching angel. Since i got completely obsessed with bones i've had the urge to watch angel again. My brother and I went shopping with our friend Bobby on Saturday. That was fun. Although we did spend more time in pubs in Newcastle and Sunderland than actually shopping. It was far too crowded to do any decent shopping. I hate the run up to Christmas. I still don't know what to get people. I cross-stitched a flower fairy so i'm going to give that to my mam. Yesterday was fun. In my seminar we were watching Love on the Dole. Some of the attepmts at Manchester accents were hilarious but it was a good film. I ordered the book and film off the internet so i can see how it ends. I'm at the hospital on Thursday, oh happy days. So much fun. NOT! TTFN Jennifer -x-

Today I saw a Hallmark commercial for some of their new ornaments. Grandchild talking about an mp3 ornament, grandpa explaining the old fashioned radio ornament. I looked up and there is Niska! Niska as a grandpa? Too creepy!

Ok I've succumbed. I was going to leave any supposition on Book to the pro's but I came up with a cool if not overly original idea. It's still more imaginative than-'Book was in the Alliance army' which is the easy way out. (I've got a bad habit of making not taking the easy way out-I really should.) ________________________________________________ Shepard Book is member of a of a monasitic fighting order called The Gaurdians. They take up causes they see as worthy. Highly trained, both in fighting skills and the duties of a priest and counseller. Although often secretive they have members placed in high ranks within both the Alliance parliment and security forces. A Guardian was involved in the release of River. Books involvement came as an accident, although he knew of the mission to save the Tam's he was actually travelling the 'verse in search of worthy causes. However he found one in protecting Simon and River as well as in guiding Mal on 'honourable' paths. ________________________________________________ Anyway not sure what Joss thought about Book but this is what I've got here. Hope you like it disagree with me if you want. Also tell me if I've missed any thing to the contrary.

I'm gonna disappear for a week because I'll be roughing it at Schoolies! Leaving on the 1st, and returning on the 7th. It's a little shorter than we'd all like, but considering it's free I think I can manage. NOT going to Queensland like most people, we're all going to Port Macquarrie...be slumming it about 400 meters from the beach. Funny story how it all turned out actually. I wasn't going to go anywhere and just keep my money, but then a friend..let's just call him Person A and his group Group A, asks me I wanna go with him. I tells him I'll think about it. About two weeks later, a person from another group-Group B, asks me if I wana go with them. So I'm torn, I'm friends with everyone in both groups (popular fellow that I am...), but can only choose one. Then about 6 weeks ago, Person A decids to go and get himself arrested. What for? How about drink driving, driving without a licence (he isn't even off his learners permit yet)...then he did a driver swap while the car was moving and the cops were right behind him. So he's in the cop car, and he has the brilliant idea of making a run for it. So while the car is doing about 60km/h, he tries (and nearly succeeds) and jump out. This in only slightly unusual for him. When asked why I wouldn't go to schoolies with him, my answer was simple: "Person A, I just really don't wanna get arrested". So now he's had the bloody brilliant idea of buggering off to Fiji without telling the Courts. Glad I'm going with Group B now! I mean, it's not that he stupid, he's a pretty sure bet to get into AIM (Australian Institute of Music) next year, but he just has no concept of common sense. So back to me! Yes, Schoolies will be fun. Seven days in the sun (See that? I rhymed!) with good friends, good music (if I have anything to say about it) a steady, but not gluttonous amount of booze. I'm making sure everyone doesn't drink too much with the most potent weapons of all: the digital camera and a sick imagination. This will all be good fun. What won't, is seven days away from all things Firefly related, including (especially so), this site, and the wonderful people on it. I'll miss you guys while I'm gone. On the plus side, when I get back, I'll be living on here for a while catching up on the boards and reading all the shiny fics everyone will have surely posted. I'll love it. I'll be like a pig in poo.

Ni haody Browncoats - man, it has indeed been a long long while since I've walked through these shiny halls, or poured very fresh wine for the newcomers. Life is what happens when you're making other plans, and I've been embroiled in a lot of life lately. Although a lot of it has included Firefly, unfortunately, and contrary to what Pumaman has indicated, Storycrafter is the one site I'm on almost religiously these days. Then again, there's a good reason. The Loft is one, but I'd rather talk about the RP I'm having the most fun with right now. It's called

It's called "Can't Take The Sky". It's canned, and somewhat formulaic, but it has a whole new crew, and a whole new Firefly to love called Morningstar. Personally, I see her as Serenity's feisty, independent aunt - the one who always travels, always has cool stories, and always has candy on the china hutch. I had one of those my own self. We got our first bit of fan mail as well from a lurker who gave us props for the quality of writing and how we're "doing it right" when it comes to the Firefly 'verse. It likely won't be hard for you to figure out which character I play, especially if you've read my fanfics. I'm in other RPs with other writers, and that's taking up some posting time, for sure. I've been part of the Minnesota Independents for the past year at various shindigs, and I've done what I can to keep recruiting the 'verse, one browncoat at a time. My loaner set of DVDs have been to Texas recently, and just back from my brother's house this past week. My brother, Jay, is incensed that the series was cancelled. He's one of the few guys I know who doesn't live and die by cable TV tech, but he said if it was still on and if it was on cable he'd pay for it just to see Firefly. I'm planning to help outfit him as Jayne - cunning hat and all. Real -ife wise, I'm still in school, having upgraded to the bachelor's degree program last spring. By December 2007, I'll be a Graphic Designer with the paper to prove it. I'd like to say I'll be writing more (no, I haven't forgotten Meili Long) but I have a portfolio to build in the hopes of getting something in the Communications arena. Currently, I'm very freshly unemployed - as of last week, in fact - so there have been interviews to fuss over. I had a very promising one yesterday, and hopes of being able to work a little more, but maybe not as hard and for more money. Wouldn't that be something? Now, you can imagine my shock in here this morning (thanks for the link, Puma), and taking a look-see only to find out that 11thHour - of all people - just went through probably the worst trauma an artist and fan can have. I was completely floored, and I have to say a big thank you to SimonWho for being a voice of reason through that whole experience. I'm glad she's come through it, and I'm angry she had to go through it at all. 11thHour also wrote something at the very end of her "Through the Storm" thread that explains why I'm still taking time out of EVERYTHING to hang on to my Browncoat and my Firefly fandom:
Originally posted by 11thHour: "... but for some reason, I'm bound to this 'verse. I was hot welded to it back on a Friday night in September 2002, I can't put it into words well enough, but it's a part of me. It's made me a better artist, it's made me a better person."
*pours very fresh wine and holds the cup up in a salute* Couldn't have said it better myself.

Hey everyone So I just wanted to share my happy. I just got done writing my 10 page research paper about Serenity for my film and lit class. I love it when I can write about something that I love. Let just hope my professor shares the same love as mine and gives me a good grade.

Well, my semester checklist of final things to do is about halfway done. All the english majors are supposed to go to some party on the sixteenth, but right now its a dim and blurry light at the end of long dark tunnel. I keep reminding myself of that scene in Real Genius, during one of the video montages, when one of the students gets up from a table buried in books, starts screaming at no one in particular, screaming "Ahh" over and over again, till he walks out the door. It makes me laugh every time. "I believe it was Socrates who said, 'I drank what.?'"

Recently I heard about in England, how they were censoring Tom and Jerry cartoons to take out the smoking. Because, long time fans of the show will notice, sometimes when he's trying to be cool, or something, Tom will light up a stoogy, usually using Jerry as the lighter, or the paper licker or something. I don't get this. These are parts of our past, and I guess I figure if it was good enough for kids of the past, it's good enough for kids now. I mean, how many of us watched those old Tom and Jerry cartoons and then went and bought a pack of cigs that night. Or long after. I think there are much more influential things in our lives that get us to smoke (if we do) than a bunch of cartoons. Anyway, you're talking about a cartoon where I just saw a mouse put an iron in a pie and then throw it at a cat's head. Firstly, worse stuff happens all the time on that show than smoking. Tom and Jerry are horrible violent to one another and nobody ever gets hurt, or shows any lasting effects. Of course my favorite gag is when Jerry props open the window with a ruler, and then leads Tom through the window, kicking the ruler out with him. So, then, the window closes, clasping Tom's neck in the window. It's hilarious. And it always makes me laugh. I think sometimes being over protective is just being overprotective. They've take alot of Warner Bros. cartoons off for some ridiculous reason or another, and if we keep letting people mess with our classics. All we'll have are the memories of the great cartoons we had growing up, while our kids will be stuck inside an ever widening bubble.

I haven't been on here in a while, i missed everyone. got so much stuff going on in my life, can't keep up. I'm now working two jobs, i have my band, married(obviously), and I've been guest dj-ing on a local radio station on Sunday night (shows called Harder Faster X with Ron House). Been a regular guest on there the past couple of weeks. My plate is full as hell!! ha! and yet i still have time to sit on my ass and do nothing, sometimes. not so much, but still have time. I don't know about anyone else, but I ain't done a lick of xmas shopping, yet. I don't know what to get anyone this year. I am completely at a loss, though my mom mite get her very own copy of Firefly this year. I know she'd downright enjoy it. Otherwise, the only thing i can think of is getting my sister a monogramed towel set, which she's not like me, she "mature", so she mite like that-un. Who knows. anyways, ladies(or gentlemen) if any of ya can-a help figure out what to get for my warrior woman (though she ain't quite a warrior, but she is a Browncoat, she's the one brought me in the fold) please comment back to me, cause I am at a loss. Just FYI, she got a bass guitar last year she ain't hardly touched, and the year b4 that she got a sewing machine she's used a bit. Please help

Hi folks. Nothing new really with my mom. She's still not eating much and most doesn't stay down long. The hospice is trying her with Prilosec on the thought that she's nauseaous due to too much stomach acid from not eating. I went up there last week on Wednesday after work with my brother, his wife and son. Never again. It was a hell trip. The radio blaring in my ear, constant conversation from my nephew about anything and everything of no importance and loudly over top of everyone else speaking (he's 12 and should know better...and his parents shouldn't have let it happen...for four hours straight) my brother talking almost as constantly or yelling at something (another driver, his wife, kid, etc) and my sister-in-law quietly pouring oil on the flames. :blast: We stayed the night at my s-i-l's parent's home (they're in Florida) which was about an hour and a half from mom's. On Thursday, I made dinner for everyone. I also discovered that my nephew, with whom I'd had to share the backseat of the car for about six hours total, was coming down with something and nobody thought to warn me. We won't even talk about that they shouldn't have brought him up north to see Mom if he was sick...okay, I did. GAH! :banghead: I cooked and cleaned up the kitchen (swept & washed the floor, washed the counters, appliances and sink). My s-i-l dusted the rest of the house. My brother and nephew did outdoor chores (leaves, washing windows.) Friday, we were suppose to go home and I had plans for the evening. That morning I'm told that we'll not be going home until later...much later. :hanged: Then another 4+ hour trip...with the car being bone-chillingly cold as my brother and his son can't stand anything above 40 apparently. Any future trips, I'll either be alone or with ANYONE else. {/rant} Sorry about that. Back to mom. She only ate a little while we were there and actually slept for most of the time. She's upset about having to take so much medicaton just to do virtually anything (up to and including daily bodily functions) and when she has a good day is rebelling and not taking her meds and is surprised when she gets worse. Then she doesn't want to take them because she feels so much worse. She's driving my step-dad (and me via long-distance) nuts. We've all tried to explain to her (including the s-i-l who's an RN) that it's like her blood pressure meds; even when you feel better or worse you still have to keep taking it or else it'll never work right. So...I meant to be here more, but I've been a bit depressed and stressed (work has the 'calendar year end snits' going) and end up just reading or sleeping when I'm home. I'm missing my friends both here and RL to keep me on an even keel. I need to get out more, but am needlessly paranoid about missing any important calls. One of my friends (and a fellow Browncoat) dragged me out to the movies on Saturday to see Happy Feet. It was just what I needed. Two hours of silliness followed by dinner and a few hours of gaming. 'Coats are the best folks! Thanks again for all your well wishes. I've told my mom about them and she says to thank all of you. *hugs fellow Browncoats* ***** RMMC

I know that it's really stupid to tell people this and not expect people to now know, but usually, most likely, my posts have nothing to do with their titles. Usually, I get the quotes from Futurama or Family Guy or some stupid thing that my friends say. Like this post. Nothing to do with Gwen Stefani and all to do with several posts ago where I had the title something to do with her. The quote was from Brian on Family Guy, and I thought it was a pretty funny standalone joke. I try to do the ones that only have one person talking, and are kinda one liners. As for my own feelings about Gwen Stefani, I actually like her music, and loved her when she was in No Doubt. So, yeah, just thought I'd put that out there. If you cared. Or not. You know, whatever.

My boss used to live in Sweden and recently returned from a visit there. When she came back, she started lighting candles in the centre, saying it was a Swedish tradition she missed a lot. Apparently, Swedes are nuts for candles and have them lit in almost every public place. I love candles. I absolutely love them. I never imagined I'd be allowed to light candles at work. Needless to say I was all for the idea. The first evening we lit candles at the reception desk one of them went on fire. As in full on flames and smoke. It was a voltive set in a jar of lavender. When the wax ran out it ignited the lavender and... well luckily I was there and spotted it pretty quickly. I had to smother it with a cloth to put it out! Now we stick with small voltives only. It really adds to the place though. I have a small cinnamon candle lighting at the moment. Mmm... Tomorrow is December 1st and it hit me that we don't have any decorations up at the centre. So I bought a mini Christmas tree! It's a real plant, but it's been dusted with gold sparkles and comes in a cheery box that doubles as an advent calendar and plays "Jingle Bells" when you press it. I know, I know... it's commercial and silly, I'm a bad little Hippie. But what the heck. It makes me smile :)

...and i'm completely freaked out. The Boyfriend (nearly five months - yay!) has invited me to dinner with his parents this weekend to celebrate his 18th birthday. And, okay, so technically it's not the first time i've met them, but does "hello" and a lift in the car really count? Anyway, his mother is terrifying - she's a primary school teacher!! Makes me want to wet my pants and hide in the art cupboard all over again... *ahem* Back to the subject at hand, I think. The woman can bring a 17-year-old boy to heel with a blink and I'm supposed to stay in the same room with her without melting into a gibbering heap? I'm sure she only invited me because she ran out of food - she's going to cook me and serve me up like a lamb chop!!! I don't want to be lamb chops!! HELP!!! b ps. apologies for my looooooooooong absence from the BSR, but passing exams, deciding your future and saving the world from the evil sock monster (an epic battle, i assure you) takes up a lot of time. but sob no more, i am back and raring to go. that is, if by "go" you mean hibernate for the next three months...

When I finished posting Easy Tickets, I estimated that the next series in the, um, series would be ready sometime in November. And here we are, the last day of the month, and guess what... Not so much. It's not due to lack of effort! I have been writing lots. In fact, I'm well past 100K words right now. (FJ was 70K and ET was 150K) but it just keeps expanding! The preliminary bit - which sets up the meat of the story - is just getting done now. After months of work! This part only is 10 chapters and 70K words (yikes!) including an intro chapter and then one chapter from each character's POV. This explains why it's taken so long - it's not easy to arrange it so that the main storyline advances and I always pay sufficient attention to The Man (Mal, of course!) while still getting into the heads of 8 other very different characters. I have to be in the mood for each one, and that can’t be forced. After chapter 10, the fun really gets to rolling. Much of it is written, but it needs filling out and arranging. There's a lot to do! I'm not sure how long the whole story will be; certainly 20 chapters, maybe as many as 30, possibly more. I really can't estimate when I'll finish, but it will be awhile. Past the new year and beyond! :( I don't have much more to say about it than I did in my last blog. Maybe I'll say it again though, and add that I think you folks who liked my previous fics will really like it. There's angst, there's sex, there's drama, there's Simon in lust, Jayne being Jayne, Book being pious (and, occasionally, armed), River being a teenager, Kaylee dealing with anger, Wash stepping up, and all kinds of background on Zoe and Mal and Inara. Also - throw in a whore or two, some new Companions, a few troublesome Alliance types (some you already know, some you may not expect to see again) and, finally, spice it up proper with a few shipfuls of hungry Reavers. Wow - I guess that's more than I said before, huh? Anyway, I hope you readers will still be around! I've noticed that fics are getting a lot fewer hits now that the fervor over the BDM has passed. That's a shame! It's scary to work so hard for a dwindling audience. Not that that will stop me, but still... I'll be at the Flan or BBB or BE Screwed or whatever it ends up being. I hope to meet a lot of you there! -Mary/mal4prez

Hi again! For those of you who read my previous blogs, I did it! Somehow I managed to write over 50,000 words of a novel in only 28 days. (And the thing isn't even finished yet!) I didn't know if it would be possible, but I just had to try it and I'm so glad I did! (And so did thousands of other people at www.nanowrimo.org) It was kind of my own personal challenge to myself. I'm glad to be done and back to my "normal" life (whatever that is), but I did have fun and I feel a sense of accomplishment. Now I'll try to post a little more often here and get reacquainted. Thanks for the supportive messages on my previous blogs. Once a Browncoat, always a Browncoat.
