TELEPATHY AND EARTH-THAT-WAS

Tuesday, November 14, 2006 4:14:07 AM

I've been messing around (mostly inside my own mind) with the idea of a human exodus from earth-that-was, and have figured why it is that River is telepathic...i think. Whenever a population looses a vast amount of its genepool (say, when a boatload of peoples arrive on a new island and create a new civilisation), its called a population bottleneck. Its the same thing with the amish people, as they rarely have children with people outside of the amish community, meaning a smaller gene pool. This means that minor genetic fluctuations from person to person are becoming amplified. This is just science; the way that certain genetic conditions are of higher prevelance in isolated communities.

If telepathy, or telepathic traits were-at some level-genetic (as opposed to chemical or enviromental), and assuming that not the entire population of earth-that-was travelled to the system for whatever reason, then its is possible that a population bottleneck has occoured, increasing the genetic likelihood of telepathy.

That may lead on to a story i write in the future, regarding the denial that some (many) were left behind on earth-that-was, which may explain why Earth is discussed in almost mythical terms, and why so little remnants of the past exist

Biography
Hello!

How nice of you to drop in!

I am 20 years old and am a university student in Melbourne, Australia. My first contact or knowledge of firefly was when i saw Serenity with some friends at the movies, so i have had a very backwards experience, working through the comics and then into the series.

I'm a really big fan of writing fiction, for all sorts of universes, but im told that while sometimes i write well i can get very grizzly and dirty without trying. Ill try to cut down on it a bit. Then again, thats what i love so much about the world of firefly - its so truthful, not bogged down with the uptopian views of other sci-fi shows; its hard and lived-in, more than a bit scarey at times, a place where you need cunning, but most importantly family to survive.

Anywhos...is that the kinda thing you write in a bio?

THanks for dropping by!
