I keep seeing the term "OC" does that refer to an actual character on the show or a created character.

I have decided that I will never watch the news ever again. I can't even watch most R rated films becasue they scare me so much, so I don't think I can handle the news any more. This week, between the horror or Katrina and the terror of the Iraq pilgram stampede, I think I may have developed an ulcer or two. Where can I go to hear good news? I know it exists! I want to hear about children being reunited with their parents after being lost. Or maybe some huge breakthrough in AIDS research. Is there a newspaper or website that can tell me news that makes me happy to be alive?

Okay folks, here's the new sweet potato pie recipe I used yesterday to rave reviews. It's not exactly a scratch recipe, but I’m sure if you wanted to go fresh, you could. Ingredients: 8 ounces cream cheese, softened 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar * 2 large eggs 1 (15.5 ounce) can mashed yams ** 1 (12 fluid ounce) can evaporated skim milk 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice*** 2 (9 inch) deep-dish pie shells 2 cups coarsely chopped pecans 2/3 cup packed light brown sugar 4 tablespoons melted butter Lightly whipped cream (optional) Directions: 1. Heat oven to 425 degrees F. 2. Beat cream cheese with electric mixer until fluffy. Beat in sugar. Reduce mixer speed and add eggs, one at a time. Beat in yams, evaporated milk, and pumpkin pie spice. 3. Pour filling into pie shells. Bake pies 30 to 35 minutes until edges puff, crust browns, and custard is set. 4. Meanwhile, mix the pecans, brown sugar, and butter. Set aside. Remove pies from oven. Sprinkle with pecan mixture and return to oven 7 to 10 minutes longer, until topping is golden brown and crisp. Cool pies on rack completely. Garnish with whipped cream. (Baking times may very. Custards may need additional time to set; I think I went 40-45 minutes) *I cut a 1/4cup of sugar out when I made this recipe. I figured since the canned sweet potatoes were in syrup, they'd be plenty sweet. We didn't miss that 1/4 cup of sugar at all. **If you are using fresh sweet potatoes, you will need to cook them. Boil them, skin on, until tender. Rinse with cool water. Peel and mash. ***I can't use pumpkin spice due to an allergy. I used 1/2 tsp of Nutmeg, 1/8 tsp of Ginger, and 1/8 tsp Cinnamon. Enjoy!!!!!

I am just so excited right now, that I just had to let it out into the 'verse. That's all. A Major squee! has gotten ahold of me. And I cannot contain it!

I'm still all very new to the fandom. I've loved Firefly since back in the days of Fox, but just recently was introduced to the community by SomeDeepMystery (love you!). Didn't know I could blog. Or even that I'd want to... turns out, I do. Btw, I love Jayne. :blast:

I am annoyed that I don't seem to be able to find a place to bookmark my favourite writers, either it's not there or I'm dumb. So I'll put it in my log thingy for now.

So that’s it. No more Fanfic (an observation that is likely to upset no one but me!) … I’m gonna concentrate on writing proper stuff that I should be writing, but don’t’ enjoy as much instead, but I’m gonna take what I learnt with me. Among other things I learnt writing my first (and last) ever fanfics were the following: 1. I never knew I could write anything that long; 2. Intersperse exposition with conflab – it’s makes it easier to read; 3. Character is everything; 4. If you don’t have a plot, peril will do; 5. *guay* is the Mandarin for Hell; 6. Always re-read old fanfics after some months, you won’t believe you wrote them; 7. Write a little bit every day whether you want to or not, you can always delete it later; 8. Writing it down tends to ruin your imagination – it’s like it’s set in stone and it did happen that way, you can’t change the story once it’s written; 9. You may think you’re writing for yourself, but you actually just want an audience, ya big egomaniac! So adieu, Hat et al, I’m sure gonna miss you guys … But I have to be big and grown up about this and write something I might be actually able to sell! But at least I know I can persevere and I owe that all to Mr Whedon and Firefly! As one of my very best friends said to me (whilst waiting to see the BDM last week): “There must be something seriously good about this Firefly thing to make you actually write fanfic, ya freak!” (ah, I love my pals!)

Hello, all. I just wanted to let everyone here know that today is my 20th birthday. As of now, I am no longer a teenager. I suppose I could be considered a young adult for real, and not euphemistically. Strange. It doesn't feel like anything's changed for me. Today I slept in, I'm going to watch some library DVD's, go to Craven for work (I'm the locations department for this short movie I'm working on for free. Basically, I'm putting up and taking down signs and sitting in my car at the bottom of the hil, flagging down people and telling them there's a movie shooting up at the top and that they should honk and go slowly in order for them to get out of the way), go to a wedding rehearsal at 6:30 and then come back here, hopefully to chat with KaySky whom I havn't talked to in months and that's it. My folks gave me two 400 dollar checks. One for my tuition, and one so that I can buy an iPod mini, which aside from a stack of TVD's, was the main thing I wanted for b-day. But because on the 7th, I have to show up at court and possibly pay a fine (it's a really long story I don't want to get into), as well as my tuition, I think I need to put any big, lavish shopping spree's on hold. Every year my birthdays get more nondescript than the last. And even though they're cheesy as Hell, I'd love to get like a surprise party. I imagine Keanu Reeves and Salma Hayek (who share my b-days with me) are having more lavish days than me. But I honestly don't care. All I really ask is for a few bridal checks to come in, maybe a b-day check from a relative that's more than $25, not too strenuous of a shooting day and some long overdue face shots from some people I met online. Wish me a happy b-day please. Let's hope the crappy compression coil doesn't snap on me and we all have to abandon ship to keep from freezing/suffocationg.

So I got back from my vacation from Las Vegas/The Grand Canyon on Thursday afternoon. Drove rather than flew so it was a long trip. First off, I must say that if you ever plan to visit Las Vegas, do it during the winter. I have never visited a place that was so hot all the time. 40 degress and above the whole time, 100 and above in Fahrenheit to sound more dramatic. It can get fairly warm where I live but it always cools down at night. I guess that's what you get for living in the desert. Temperature aside, it was a good vacation. Well, if you ignore the fact that I got a heat rash, hives on my fingers, and threw up on my second day in Vegas. More on my sickness later. Driving down to Vegas took about two days. Stopped in a place in Idaho called Poctatello for the night. Ate at an Applebee's. I was thrown off by the fact that they spelt neighbourhood without the "u". I was tempted to add it in. Second day arrived in Vegas though there was a quick stop in a place called Mesquite (sp?) for a bathroom break. The second I stepped out of the car, I was hit with the heat. The difference was so staggering. The air was like molten. In Mesquite I was also hit with the sudden explosion of casinos. Two hours outside of Vegas and they were everywhere in this little town. Of course, gambling is legal so I didn't expect any less. Arriving in Vegas was interesting. As you drive in, you see this city rise out of the desert. There's sand all around, but here's this one place thriving. There was some hit and miss finding the hotel, but I was just glad to be inside somewhere with air conditioning. Ate at a casino called Terrible's and I was introduced to my first Las Vegas casino. Slot machines everywhere along with thick cigarette smoke. I think the smoke was part of my downfall the next day. Next day was sort of a wander around the city kind of day. Visited the Las Vegas Hilton to take a peek at Star Trek: The Experience, which I visited the next day, then travelled to Vegas' Chinatown. I was travelling with my parents and they wanted to check it out. Walked around until we found a good restaurant. At least, so we thought. Now, I'm allergic to nuts and peanuts to the point that I could die if I eat something contaminated by them. Eating at the Chinatown at home is easy since we know the places where I can eat. I guess it slipped all of ours mind to ask about nuts before we ordered. Let's just say we started eating and left very quickly for the hotel after twenty minutes or so. It was on the way back that my allergies, my other allergies, started to act up. I guess it was dust or smoke or something, but I couldn't stop sneezing and my eyes got all red. I spent the afternoon locked in the bathroom before the Benadryl kicked in. Watched Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends before I felt good enough to leave the hotel. I might have been spurred by the fact that my mom mentioned that the Flamingo had penguins and it was close to feeding time. Spent the rest of the afternoon watching African Penguins waddling around. That made the day worth it. Can't remember what happened the rest of the day. Next day, Wednesday, was be a geek day. Spent the first half of the day at Star Trek: The Experience. Yeah, I know this is a Firefly board, but my family's big on Trek. But to keep myself happy about geeking out over another sci-fi show, I wore my "Joss Whedon is my Master Now" t-shirt. Sadly, only three people took notice. The first two were a couple who were passing by while I was waiting for the place to open. The guy asked me where I got my shirt and I told him (thinkgeek.com). The third person to comment on my shirt was a Klingon. Now, it's the guy's job to wander around The Experience, talking to people and making comments. When he saw my shirt, he said it was an unusual uniform and asked me why I placed my allegiance with Joss. Now, I have to admit that I was caught off guard so my response was a lame "Because he's so cool." Then the Klingon shot back with "If he's so great, how come Firefly was cancel

After a week's worth of procrastinations and delays I finally managed to make down to my FLGS (friendly local game store) to order a copy of "Serenity: The Roleplaying Game" (half down, half when I pick it up). I could have ordered it online from Amazon or Warehouse 23, but that wouldn't do anything to keep my FLGS in business. When the movie inspires the resurrection of the series (Please, please, please, please, please!), I'd like the store to be around so I can buy the inevitable expansion modules there. I'm really looking forward to comparing the deckplans in it to the ones that have been posted on the web. I'm trying to think of the last time I took notice, in a psitive way, the music in a show or a film. I usually don't, I usually just absorb it all as a whole. But I was watching T3 and the music, or rather lack there of, in this one scene just stood out so badly. You know one of the moments when I first watched Firefly (and I was thinking this show is odd but I kinda like it) that really stands out, is the moment Serenity disengages from that wreck, and she goes into full burn, and the music with that scene. It was stunning. I don't remember taking notice, of being affected by music so, in a tv show like that since maybe Due south, in the Victoria Secret ep. Hmm. Which makes me want to go listen more closely to all the shows I've ever watched, which of course I can't. and the whole reason I'm even thinking this is because of T3 and the Transporter 2... lol You can make your own judgments as to which music does it's job best if you so choose to see these films. :p Being married to the man I am, it is likely these type of movies will be a permenant fixture in my life. Not that that's so bad really. They are enjoyable for what they are. :blast: :bash: :knife: Too bad there's no kung foo smilie. Or a smilie in a fast car that can do amazing feats in a single tank of gas! That would be shiny. And that's my rambling for the evening. G'night.

So security bounced us out of the Hilton (don't ask it's a long story) so the party for last night was cancelled. And I'm not drinking for at least a week.

I started writing another fanfic. This ones not dirty though, just mediocre ramblings with, just a HINT of self-importance. but I expect scads of people to read it. make that "DEMAND scads of people".

Hi -- I am a NEW "Firefly" Fan...and I'm a bit overwhelmed by it. I haven't been a show fan since I was a KID -- so maybe this is a form of midlife crisis??? Anyway -- one of my best friends turned me on to the series by letting me view her DVD set. My sons and I watched every episode in 4 days (we did have to get chores done!). We LOVED it! I couldn't believe it didn't even finish a whole season? I really wonder what the heck went on behind the scenes to cause that..and I am truly looking forward to the upcoming movie. Anyway -- I loved it so much, I bought 6 sets for friends as gifts -- including one for myself!! I gave one to my 37 year old little brother who just underwent major open heart aortic surgery and has a long road to recovery. 1 week after watching the episodes for the first time, I watched EVERY episode with my brother AGAIN!! He loves it too. (I love MAL and he can't get enough of KAYLEE -- wait 'til he finds out how young she is!!! ) So - now I'm a member of a fan site, I bought 2 sets of the comic books, and I'm waiting with bated breath for the theatrical release!! AND -- hoping for several MORE after that! Is this midlife-crisis?? I'll keep you posted.

I've heard some of the stories and I've heard some of the rumors. I'm not going to assign any blame or jump to any conclusions, but I AM going to take it upon myself to speak for the other folks helping coordinate the NCBDMPP. Folks travelling here and attending our little shindig need to go ahead and get it into their heads that they're going to behave like they have some sense, and that they've been raised right. I'm all about having a drink or three and having some fun, but I'm not going to let anyone behave in a manner that will get the rest of us in trouble. Savvy?

Squeeeee. Wednesday August 24th, 2005. What a day. You know, when my good mate Andy offered me two free tickets to go and see Serenity, I thought...WOW! I'm so lucky. That day is going to rock. Nothing could make it better. Hehehe. If only I knew. When I heard that a large chunk of the cast, including Summer Glau, we're going to be doing a free signing in Edinburgh that day in the exact place I was going to be...I...I could have died of happiness! I could not BELIEVE it. And then when I read Joss Whedon was going??! Holy frikkin :censored: Yup, thats right... I said :censored:! So, I had to re-schedule my train plans to make it to Edinburgh in time for this, so I left my house at 4.30 in the morning...and my train journey took 7 hours. But it was so worth it. Okay...we were told that Nathan, Summer, Jewel, Morena, Adam & Joss would be there. I'd met them all before, except Joss of course, but I was so happy at the thought of seeing them again! Especially Summer!! On the train journey up there, I wrote her a 2-page letter...put it in an envelope on which I wrote "To the beutiful Miss Glau" on. And on the back, I put my address on, just incase she wanted to write back. It's probably unlikely she will though, as I didn't put a "self-addressed stamped envelope" in there, or any international return coupons, but hey, I can dream! So I got there, and we found out that Jewel wasn't there... :disappointed: But Gina was! I was very pleased. Obviously I was sad at not getting to see Jewel...but I'd never met Gina before...and don't know if I'll ever get the chance to again! I took my Firefly set with me to get it signed. I also took the group photo of the cast that had been signed by all of them except Gina & Sean. Just incase, as it was always uncertain about who was going to be there. We found out we could only have one thing signed. I was kinda bummed, as I didn't know what to get Gina to sign! So I thought, well, I'll ask her to sign the photo, and everyone else to sign the boxset. So, we got a little closer...and I caught little glimpses of Adam, and Nathan...Morena too. And then...here comes the motherload, people. Through a gap in the crowd I saw Summer. And then, she looked over, and our eyes met. I need to remember to breathe as I type this, cos reliving this moment makes me emotional! Her face lit up right away, and she smiled and waved over at me and mouthed "Hi!". I was overcome with joy. Obviously I smiled and waved back too! Then I blew her a kiss...and she blew me one back! I couldn't believe it. After that, I had tears in my eyes, I was so happy. I could have forgotten everything else and just gone home happy after that. I was with my friend Jason, he's a big fan of Summer too, and had met her 3 times. As we got closer, I could hear Gina laughing every now and then, she sounded so bubbly! Then when me and Jason came to the front of the queue and we're waiting...Summer looked at us and then turned to Morena and said "My boys are here." I was so chuffed, and touched. The thought that she not only remembered us, but called us "her boys" warmed me through and through! The event itself, was rather unorganised. Everybody was very rushed. There were lots of HMV security gaurds who were very pushy, and they we're quite rude to some people. Anyway, then we got to speak to Adam. He didn't seem as cheery as he was the last time I met him, to be honest he looked quite tired...I think that with the premiere...and the flights, he must have been worn out! But he was nice, shook my hand, said hello, signed my set, and stood with me for a photo. Then it was over to Summer & Morena.:biggrin::biggrin: Wow! I said hi, and Morena said "Hey you! How are you doing?" So I'm guessing maybe she remembered me from the first con? Who knows! She was wearing a lovely gold outfit that looked companion-like! I told her that it looked lovely. I told Summer that I had written her a letter on the way up... and I gave it to her, she

August 26th was my last blog? You're kidding me...now it's September 6th! Dang, that's what happens when the school year starts and I don't have enough time to stay on top of everything. And frankly, that sucks. I still notice plenty of things I want to comment on, I just never have the time to get it all down! I am happy to say, however, that I have my Malcolm Reynolds Teaching Method poster in my classroom along with the US Serenity poster...frankly, I like the Aussie one better...and Aussies want to trade?! But things are good and I am very excited by the prospects offered to me by someone I met at the Serenity Movie board...she works in Hollywood (makeup) and is a total sweetheart and has offered to make some calls and pull some favors to get a panel of industry folk to come to NorCal and talk to my juniors when we do our independent film unit next Spring! :D Browncoats so rock!

i'm in the middle of writing my college essay. it's really hard as i'm sure you all appreciate. somehow this just seems like a painful inauguration into the real world. all this sorrow for something that might fail me. i've wanted to go to the university of virginia since i was a little girl. both my parents went there and my daddy sam lived on the lawn (a prestigious little dorm). it's just frustrating to be so alone now . . . how does one continue? i'm saving the last part of kaylee's lament for tonight, as a pick-me-up, but fact is i just wish i knew more english teachers. but i suppose that's enough of my whining: it's just a little embarassing to post all that on my lj or myspace. at least i have plans for the bdm. we're all meeting in baltimore for a shindig of our own creation. as in we watch every single episode and then see the movie. a daunting task indeed! are there any other browncoats in the area? we would all hate to miss a real party. oh and the first line of my essay is "shakespeare is a lot like sex". i love it though i think it might be a bit misleading . . . but then if 'this is what going mad must feel like" i guess it's okay. thanks!

Am I the only one acutely discouraged by the Serenity trailers? Maybe there are thousands of blogs already that say this ... but the music isn't right, the cinematography isn't right, even the characters aren't right ... what's with the captain being outwitted by Jayne ? ("Well .... you can't.") The story, yeah it seems absolutely perfect ... it's just everyone is, for one, all Hollywoodized, and it seems more like a trailer for the Fifth Element than anything to do with firefly. I am just feeling down about it all. Am I going to be disappointed?

In regards to the fic Adam's Rib (found in the Blue Sun Room under 'drama')... I’ve made a kind of file on the Academy, the children and what was done to them, including a timeline and the memory scenes placed in chronological order. Would anyone be interested in me posting that once all the chapters are finished?

Went to the London press screening. Loved it. Drama, action, comedy, tragedy. What more do you want from a movie? And then, this morning, I find out that my Abbyshot Browncoat is officially 'finished' and on it's way. Groovy.

It's not like I am obsessed with "Serenity" and "Firefly" these days, but as the movie approaches, more and more things show up before my eyes and ears that remind me of it. Cases in point: 1. I opened a Victoria's Secret shoe catalog yesterday (yes, VS sells shoes too, boys!) and there, on page 3, I read: FRYE shearling boot. I mean, what are the chances? And so you can see I'm not on crack, go here:

I know a lot of people are planning Shindigs and other special celebrations for the Serenity Premiere, so I wanted to mention that The Bedlam Bards are as of yet available to perform at Firefly celebrations for a modest fee. We're the ones who created the Ballad of Joss, Big Damn Trilogy, and many other Firefly-inspired songs that wowed the crowds at Dragon*Con. We're currently working on an album of Firefly-inspired music called _On the Drift_, some of which will be featured in the Browncoat documentary, _Done the Impossible_. You can check us out at www.BedlamBards.com

I lay awake at night, disturbed by visions of invading evildoers and their designs on my town, when appeared to me such a vision -- it was Master Joss! Lo, and Joss declared unto me, "Who is thine enemy, that I may smite them with pestilence and boils and such." "Hark!" I replied, "Verily, mine enemies come unto Columbus with design on smashing thy loyal servant's Buckeyes!" "And what name dost thou give thine enemy?" "I name my enemy Texas Longhorns." "They have not a chance," Joss assured me, "For thine Buckeyes shall crush these Longhorns, and those from the accursed region shall wail in despair, and there shall be much plucking of beards and gnashing of teeth." "Verily, thou art a wise and just ruler," I responded. "Is there anything my lord requires of me for this victory you have promised?" "No, my son," Joss said in a reassuring voice. "But fail not in the ingestion of as much fermented beverage as necessary in order that thou mayest taunt thine enemies upon their fall." And it was good.

Is it bad that I don't really consider myself a Browncoat? Mostly everyone on here kind of seems to take that side, but I never have felt a real compelling urge to take the Independence side. I identify more with Jayne who is kind of neutral, but loyal to who is in control of his livelihood. I actually don't really see Mal as being that hell-bent on taking out the Alliance either, at least not in the show. Of course, he isn't content with their having won, but he is at most content to fly "under the radar" and do his best to ignore them. The trailers do show him maybe rekindling some of his war motives. At any rate, even though I do feel like I'm part of the show and dedicated to its protagonists, I don't really feel dedicated to their cause. Maybe for me the real charm that the show brings isn't that the goal is to destroy the enemy--it's just to avoid it and get by in a kind of sub-universe that the rest of the world is either ignorant of or irked by. The interaction with the Reavers is very similar, and it sparks an interesting point that the whole Firefly phenomenon is a similar sort of sub-Universe. Anyone else have some thoughts on this?

I don’t have a job. I’m looking around, but there’s not a lot available when you don’t have a degree. I’m working on an idea Succatash gave me, but it’s not looking too doable. The city just isn’t happin’ enough. Up for a spot at a computer store. Nothing else yet. But I guess since it was just a few days ago, I shouldn’t expect much. You know, I’m tempted to call up the Navy. Back in high school, they were after me. There’s a Navy reserve here. What do you think? I could actually build a skill. This base seems to do a lot with systems and cryptology. What am I saying? Enlist? Eek.

So it's finally happened. My life has gotten to the point where I'm just too busy to spend a lot of time on FFF.net, my home away from home. It sucks, really, but what can you do? With my recent promotion at work, on top of everything else that I'm doing right now, I just can't be the constant presence that I have been in the past. I'll still be here from time to time. I'll stop by the Juggled Gosling on occasion to say hi, and I will keep updating my fanfic series, but I don't know about my time spent on the SereniTREE or aboard my own ship Destiny. I'll try to jump in every now and then to keep Soul alive, but other than that...I dunno. I'm not leaving, because I could never leave my friends. My visits will just be shorter and farther apart. Thank you all for the wonderful friends you have all been to me. - Soul

Well...I suppose (grin) that with all the support and good feelings that I've gotten from my fellow browncoats over the last few years that I should share something a bit. It wasn't exactly dinner time, so forgive the title just a bit :). The long tall and skinny of this is that I received a visitor last night that has been long in coming. About 9 yrs long, I should say. As most of yas know, I did not have the honor and priveledge of growing up with my sister as a fixture in my life other than for "what if's" and the once or twice a year visits whenever my "mother's first husband" decided to remember that he had a son.... Well..it took a bit, but she is currently sacked out on my couch after a long night of excitement, joking, lauging, etc etc. I am sure that the bad feelings shall come later when we talk about all that's happened (mostly from myself, I tend to keep important conversations for in person). As for now...not even the most asinine and rude person that I encounter at work probably will not be able to even put a ding into my good mood! I can honestly say that I am in the best mood I have been in in a very long time. Which is to say that I have absolutely NO idea how to handle it lol. I would probably have to work hard to come up with the caustic sarcasm that's my trademark here! So...for just this one time, I love you all..trolls included, for just this one day! Tommorrow, however, is another day :P

Hey, some fellow browncoat has launched a bit of guerilla marketing at the University of Pittsburgh. I was in cl363 yesterday and on the blackboard was written- Find Serenity September 30 www.cantstopthesignal.com What Color is Your Coat? Of course, it bagged an answer, and I wrote brown underneath it. Boy did I love seeing my favorite fandom randomly. So, if you're a Pitt browncoat, or if you know anyone who is, let me know!

Went to see a couple of decent flicks today. Red Eye and Four Brothers. Both are probably better as rentals, but it being Sunday and all, I figured what the heck. While at the theatre, I noticed sitting out on the counter a stack of Serenity posters. Not full sized ones, but the scaled down version with River and Mal...I guess that's the only design out? Either way, it was good to see those were out, and there weren't many left, either. So I only took a couple. Oh, and as a side note I couldn't help notice one of our fav bad guys, The Operative from the BDM, playing yet another bad guy in Four Brothers. Dude plays some evil guys, to be sure.

It has been a while since I've been on this site. Life just carried me away for a spell, but now I am back. I'm in my second year of grad school and already stressed. I'm currently sitting in the computer lab waiting for my articles to print out. It is taking forever, and I'm not known for my patience. Well anyway, I can't wait for the BDM! I've started watching all my Firefly episodes in anticipation. I really want to dress up for the opening. I'm thinking Zoe. Maybe Kaylee. I've always thought of myself as an odd combination of both. I don't know. Would it be dorky to dress up for the premiere at a local theatre? I don't even live in a big city and I would probably be the only one doing it. It would be fun though...That's it. I'm doing it. To hell with whatever anyone else thinks. Does anyone know where to find Firefly costumes? I doubt they're in mass production, but I suck at doing things myself.

Yes. It has arrived. My very own Browncoat. And it is shiny. Oh my yes. So very shiny. Pictures at the weekend, maybe.

While I had planned on posting my theory of the Reavers origins on the Blue Sun....I just couldn't go through with it! :banghead: My Ideas were very similar to Joss' when I saw The Premier of the BDM!!!! On a Lighter note (for me  ) I'm gonna be turning 21 in 2 weeks! Woo!

Today God put the world on hold for me. That's right, He told everyone else to wait. He set down everything He was doing. He did not put me on call waiting. He didn't look at his caller ID and hope I would just leave a message. He didn't ask if he could call me after the game was over or at the next commercial. He didn't stomp His foot and say, "I should have left my IM set on Busy or Away." He did not try to see if He could "squeeze me in somewhere" or have His secretary make some lame excuse, or ask if we could reschedule. He did not say, "Let me finish this up & I'll be right there." No, He did none of those things. God stopped. He closed His appointment book. He didn't try to finish a few last things on his desk while we talked. Instead He got up from his desk, and came around to me. He reached His gentle and strong hand to me, smiled, said, "Would you like to go for a walk? or maybe an Ice cream cone? I've got all day just for you." He never said, "Let's talk on the go." But He said here's a nice quiet peaceful place, let's sit here & talk. And while we talked he looked me in the eye. He didn't snack while I was talking. He did not give me obligatory nods or say, "Hmmm" or "Yes" or "Interesting" He listened. He wasn't watching something across the street or rolling His eyes hoping I would "just get to the point." God listened. And when He spoke, He spoke strong meaningful words, sometimes they were stern, but they were never condescending, never mocking, never did He once make me feel "stupid" or feel like I was wasting a single second of his time. He spoke words of healing, of life, of encouragement. He made me feel special, he made me feel loved. God listened to me. Now I know what you're thinking. God would never put everyone else on hold. He's omnipotent he would just listen to everyone at once, after all he's God. And so you picture in your mind God sitting at a big desk surrounded by papers & forms by which he runs the universe. His E-mail is full of Standard Responses, and automatic reply's. You see him with a cell phone in one ear, his speaker phone broadcasting the eloquent prayer of some big name preacher, because after all they are more important than me. And his pager vibrating loudly where he stuck it in his right hand desk drawer. While his monitor is buried under yellow sticky notes with names scribbled so carelessly they can't even be read. And if this is what you see, than you're not seeing God. You see us. For you see this is how we try to "listen" to everyone at once. But that's not God. God puts the world on hold and listens to me. And he'll do the same for you, at the same time, with the same love & care & interest. After all He is God and YOU are his most important child. -R. Harris

Taking into account my lack of sewing/costume-making prowess, I have a idea. I'm thinking of going as some sort of female Jayne. All I would need is a blue sun t-shirt and some cargo pants. Also, my little brothers paintball gun is Vera-ish, but I doubt I could take it into the theatre with me. Even if it was empty. I could always just show up with a big apple. Browncoats would get the reference.

I know no one seems to like responding to my entries... don't know why. But I was wondering if anyone had the "We Aim to Misbehave" Wallpaper, if there is one. You know, the one with River in the center with the axe and sword, Mal to the right, Jayne further back between Mal and River, and Inara (I think) way back there? If you do, please tell me, I would really like it. Thanks! Un du everinya ono varda.

FINALLY after years an YEARS of not having one, I have one! And let the crowd rejoice! It's a weird thing to get used to, but if I want to pass my computer illustration class, I better. I'm currently reading the Serenity Visual Companion. I'm being spoiled, but I don't care, I want to look at the artworks and etc. And the Serenity soundtrack needs to come out eariler than Sept. 27....

This is not Firefly related but I would like some input/advice/reality check or whatever. I have been having issues with my downstairs neighbor for the last three months or so and i wanted an relatively unbiased opinion. (i know that not having the other side of the story means that a true unbiased opinion is impossible.) Anyways, I moved into my apartment June 2004 my neighbor moved in June 2005. Over the last three or so months she has been complaining of noise. I don't think i am making excessive noise. The only thing i can think of that would make any noise at night are my two cats. They like to play at night. (They are relatively small cats, one weighs 6# the other about 10#) I can't imagine them making all that much noise downstairs. My neighbor and I have talked and she told me that she has Fibromyalgia and that she has trouble sleeping. Okay, fine, I understand that but why on earth if you have this condition would you choose to live in a second floor apartment? So I play the nice neighbor and try to make things quieter, to the point of me sleeping on my couch most nights to entice the cats to play more in that area. It's starting to get old. She has also told me about the guy below her that blares his TV all night long, but "that's okay because he's like 80 years old and deserves to play his tv that loud." Later i got a different story which was that he was an asshole to her about it and she just doesn't want to deal with him. So i'm about to become a raging bitch to her to see if she'll leave me alone too. The real kicker was this morning. I got up to get ready for work at 5:30am, which means taking a shower and leaving. Not long after I start up the shower, she's throwing shit at her ceiling. (which she's done all along when she thinks i'm making to much noise. I'd hate to see her ceiling.) I'm sorry, i don't think taking a shower falls under excessive noise but i think throwing things at the ceiling does. I'm just at the point where this is going to be my reaction to her next time: :finger: This post probably didn't make much sense and i know i forgot a lot, but i'm just failing to see where her condition(part of which is being hypersensitive to noise) is my problem and I'm tired of her trying to make it my problem.

My Canadian Literature prof is... unusual. I had my first Can. Lit. class today and the first thing she asked the class to do was arrange the desks into a "u" shape. Now, I haven't sat like that since elementary school. Then she asked us to make name tags. Granted it was so she could learn our names but then she asked if she could take our picture to help make the name learning easier. It was a little weird. But weird in a cool sort of way. She's different and that's nice in a prof. So being different means new things. I just discovered this orientation thing I have to do before the weekend. The first half asks that you reply in the discussion board and that's obviously not going to be an issue for me. The second half is to make a little homepage about yourself. This can be done with this on-line thing called "Blackboard". It's not a real webpage but the class, and maybe the whole campus, can see your profile. So I took the opportunity to spread the word of Serenity. I tried not to sound too geekish, but now it's known class wide, and possibly campus wide, that I'm a geek. Bah. Who cares. I briefly mentioned that Serenity was coming out at the end of the month and uploaded an icon I had made of River. I took the image from the Australian poster so she looks scary. Hopefully people will actually do this assignment, see my page, be intrigued by River, and decide to check out Serenity. I can dream, right?

The first episode was great, you got to love that the 58th's drill sergeant was the guy from Full Metal Jacket. But after the opening credits on the second episode the video and audio froze then the screen went black with green text telling me that the disk needs cleaning or is scratched. I look closely at the disk and there is a bunch of pinprick sized air bubbles in the disk. Shitty copies figures! :disappointed: Well I’m going to watch all the disks to make sure they are good then go back to Best Buy to exchange the bad disk, and I’m going to visually check the disks in store because this sucks. Oh before I forget on the DVD menus they have the Babylon 5 station on the left hand side. WTF?

I was watching a rerun of Cheers (it's 2am... what ELSE is on?) and Norm was having a heart-to-heart with Sam. They were talking about Norm being tempted to have an affair on Vera and Norm admitted that he would never do that. His line: "I mean, I have urges, sure. But if I acted on them, I'd be no better than a rutting pig." Now, rutting is used like it's SUPPOSED to be. A rutting pig is a pig in heat and it's probably the origin of the curse on Firefly. Still, as soon as he said it, I pictured Jayne saying it: "No better'n a ruttin' pig." That just amused me at 2:30 in the morning ;-D

Okay...this flylog is rated PG-13 for assorted usages of bad language...Everyone still here? Thought so. Tonight, my first night on swing shift (1500-2300) there is no work, as we might be getting pummeled by a large hurricane building off the coast as we speak. Someone brings in a disc with some burned games on it. Okay...every Atari, NES, and SNES game known to man. The cursing began with Top Gun. Someone actually remembered how to land the goddamn plane! I could never do that when I was playing that game back in the day. It went like this: "How do ya like me now, Bitch!" "Fuck! How the fuck did you fuckin' do that?" Later on, Super Mario Bros. 3 came out. It went like this: "You know, I used to be able to get further than the fuckin' second level!" Jeopardy!: "This game is fuckin' gay!" And, my favorite of the evening: Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!: "I can't fuckin' believe this! I'm gonna fuckin' lose to Glass Joe!" "My fuckin' arms are tired from playing this stupid game!" and, my personal favorite: "I'm not goin' the fuck home until I beat Mike!" Gotta love those old games! People are in here actually cheering about Punch-Out! I'm on a rocket sled back to 1988! Go 88!!!

WAAAAHHH! Yes, a bit melodramatic, but it's a well deserved waaahhhh....Joss was doing Q&A in Melbourne, 1 hour away from my very campus and tickets were sold out before I'd even heard about it. Word of mouth in this part of the world is depressingly slow :( So I'd love to hear the goss from anyone who did happen to catch the show. Me? I settled with watching him on "Rove Live" instead. Hardly the same, but any Joss fix is a good Joss fix.

You know, as much as I love Firefly, I get really aggravated with everyone constantly talking about how great it is, how "shiny" it is, and how genius it is. I don't necessarily disagree, but if we are going to talk about how good a show is, I think it's best to point out a lot of the negatives. I bought the commentary book "Finding Serenity" and from what I've read so far there are a few fascinating rebuttals, but for the most part everyone chalks Firefly up to the television equivalent of the Bible. Does anyone out there know of any commentary that completely blasts the show? I have found a few reviews of the movie, but they were by people who hadn't really watched the show and there arguments seemed moot to me. It would be a great relief to find someone who sees all its flaws without trying to maintain its glory. (But let me reiterate -- I very much like the show).

... which came up negative, but got me thinking. I'm really a nervous little man, scared of just about everything, but the world can't see that. This is my dilemma. I'm a big ol' scardy cat trapped in the body of an adonis. Okay, an adonis with a couple extra pounds. Fine... and adonis with a couple extra pounds and little girl wrists. Jeez, I never would have brought it up if I thought you would rub it in. Anyway, I'm this stoic Defender of Freedom and Filer of Paperwork, and last week my wife asks me to pick up a pregnancy test, damn near reducing me to a whimpering little girl. Why couldn't she have asked me to pick up some tampons or a duvet cover? Oh well. Honestly, I'm a little bummed that it wasn't positive, but I should probably invest in a difibrilator before next month. Oh, and the next day I got a hematoma, saw a dude riding an old timey bike and picked up Serenity #3. In that order. Droppy

I guess that's what you would call me at the moment. I just recently got into the show, and I am horribly addicted, not that I am complaining. Hehe, anyway, I made this today, I thought it came out pretty good.

Okay, so I'm posting this here because it's funny. My sister-in-law sent it to me. Dear Red States... We've decided we're leaving. We intend to form our own country, and we're taking the other Blue States with us. In case you aren't aware, that includes Hawaii, Oregon,Washington,Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and all the Northeast. We believe this split will be beneficial to the nation, and especially to the people of the new country of New California. To sum up briefly: You get Texas, Oklahoma and all the slave states. We get stem cell research and the best beaches. We get Elliot Spitzer. You get Ken Lay. We get the Statue of Liberty. You get Dollywood. We get Intel and Microsoft. You get WorldCom. We get Harvard. You get Ole' Miss. We get 85 percent of America's venture capital and entrepreneurs. You get Alabama. We get two-thirds of the tax revenue, you get to make the red states pay their fair share. Since our aggregate divorce rate is 22 percent lower than the Christian Coalition's, we get a bunch of happy families. You get a bunch of single moms. Please be aware that Nuevo California will be pro-choice and anti-war, and we're going to want all our citizens back from Iraq at once. If you need people to fight, ask your evangelicals. They have kids they're apparently willing to send to their deaths for no purpose, and they don't care if you don't show pictures of their children's caskets coming home. We do wish you success in Iraq, and hope that the WMDs turn up, but we're not willing to spend our resources in Bush's Quagmire. With the Blue States in hand, we will have firm control of 80 percent of the country's fresh water, more than 90 percent of the pineapple and lettuce, 92 percent of the nation's fresh fruit, 95 percent of America's quality wines (you can serve French wines at state dinners) 90 percent of all cheese, 90 percent of the high tech industry, most of the U.S. low-sulfur coal, all living redwoods, sequoias and condors, all the Ivy and Seven Sister schools, plus Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Cal Tech and MIT. With the Red States, on the other hand, you will have to cope with 88 percent of all obese Americans (and their projected health care costs), 92 percent of all U.S. mosquitoes, nearly 100 percent of the tornadoes, 90 percent of the hurricanes, 99 percent of all Southern Baptists, virtually 100 percent of all televangelists, Rush Limbaugh, Bob Jones University, Clemson and the University of Georgia. We get Hollywood and Yosemite, thank you. Additionally, 38 percent of those in the Red states believe Jonah was actually swallowed by a whale, 62 percent believe life is sacred unless we're discussing the death penalty or gun laws, 44 percent say that evolution is only a theory, 53 percent that Saddam was involved in 9/11 and 61 percent of you crazy b*****ds believe you are people with higher morals then we lefties. By the way, we're taking the good pot, too. You can have that dirt weed they grow in Mexico. Peace out, Blue States

This is not Firefly related, but I find it very disturbing and am surprised that I just found out about it. You'd think lead found in kids'lunch boxes would be be all over the news, especially since the information is 15 days old and it's a new school year. Anyway, please check this out and pass it on. Thanks.

But first, i need to start with the beginning of that night. My friend Tod and i went to the pool hall, then we went to this guy joey's house. we played football...and it hurt. I got railroaded by a 350 pound fifteen year old tank. it was a fucking blast. Then we stopped by my old best friends house, named marcus. We drove to a grociery store that was about an hour away to steal some vodka ( And we sung christan songs along the way, which was about as wied as it sounds) fast foward about four hours, and we're all getting bombed off the stolen smirnoff.(which i felt pretty bad about later on) I fall asleep in the big chair about five uin the mormning, and about six todd woke me up and said "I need help with marcus." Marcus was having some sor of panic attack, and he couldn't remeber who where he was for about half an hour. then he got his memory back, but he couldn't walk, so we had to help him take a piss. and that's when i saw it. It made me really not want to be gay. ( i was having a lot of confusioin on the subject up intil that point.) I feel beter about life, except the guilt over the stealing.(although, it was a lot of fun to do it. i was the distraction.) any thoughts?

Wow, that Letter to the Red States thing really hit a nerve with more people than I expected it to. I guess that comes from the California perspective...I totally have mad love for the South. I have friends and family out there. Anyway, onto better things! A friend and I on the UB are trying to arrange a cool weekend-long shindig for later this year and we've got all sorts of great ideas, but we want to find out if there's even any interest in attending such a thing. Is there? If the UB wasn't being such a beeyotch right now, I'd post the details...but as soon as it's behaving, I'll post em. Okay...so here's the post from the UB: I was going to make this long fancy post, but then it dawned on me: Writing isn't my strong suit. It's not even a weak one! So this will be to the point. I'm calling all Browncoats near and far to invite you all to a Grand Weekend-long Shindig. It's nothing fancy, but will be held in a fitting town underneath the clear night sky. UnchartedOutlaw and I have been kicking around the idea for a while now and we've reached a middle. Now we need your help to set a date. And of course I'd welcome any ideas and opinions! Here's the rundown: Firefly will be shown on a big screen throughout the weekend where folks are welcome to just sit and talk about it. We've arranged for live music the entire weekend…music befitting Firefly fans! There will be accommodations offered…just nothing fancy. I have a quarter of an acre of land for my backyard. We'll set up fire pits, torches, paper lanterns, and tents (helps if you have your own to bring). There is a hotel in my small town, but I want to extend the offer. I also have three bedrooms and a living room that can be used. UnchartedOutlaw has come up with a brilliant Crew Scavenger Hunt that I've managed to get the town folk to agree with. At the end there will be a prize awarded to the winning team. Mind you it will not be grand, but it's something. Basically you will be allowed to form yourself into teams/crews of three or four. There will be a box of cargo placed in the town somewhere and it will need to get to a destination. Each team will be given directions in an envelope. The directions amount to your team's end product. How you get there and how the other teams react to it…that's the fun part! I have friends who will bring around their horses for you all to enjoy if you choose. A costume contest will be set up as well. That doesn't mean that costumes are a requirement, just a suggestion. Two blocks down there is a saloon. Yes, a real saloon if you prefer a stronger beverage. This shindig will be held in Norco, California. If you wonder like most folks, "Where the hell is Norco?" it can be found about sixty miles outside of Hollywood to the east. Now I know that it seems mighty far, especially for some, but it will be one hell of a shindig. And it's held in held in a town tailored for Browncoats! Down the street there's a Jack in the Box and a McDonalds with their western store fronts and corrals to tie up your horses while you eat. Also you can just google search "Norco" and see what's out there. So give us your opinions and ideas for dates. We're kind of considering the 29/30 of October, 5/6 of November, or the 12/13 of November. But we totally welcome input from you all!

Well, my first blog...never knew what to write in these things. Geekdom has grabbed hold of me and fight it as I will....I can't shake it. I wrote my first fanfic. That was a rush!! You have to understand, my "creativity" is as elusive as the vein of butterscotch in butterscotch ripple ice-cream. Every now and then I stumble across it, get caught up in the moment and write/draw/build/create/fix something. But then I can't find it again no matter how hard I try. Frustrating really. I am truly a Jack of all trades. I show a glimmer of talent in everthing I do, but not enough to say "that's what I do best". I guess it's both a blessing and a curse. While I'll never be "bad" at anything, I'll truly never excel at anything. I guess there's worse things to worry about. As long as my little girls still see that glimmer as a shining star and still think daddy is the strongest, funniest, can-fix-anything 'est daddy there is, and I can keep my wife laughing, all is good and right in the world.

Insomnia bites the big one. Yup. It sucks so much donkey balls that the RSPCA is complaining as we speak. It's just past 5am, I haven't slept yet and it doesn't look like I'm going to AT ALL. *sigh* You know, I've been pretty good in the last four years. I've been sleeping several hours a night. Lately, in the last month... not so much. And tonight, apparently, nadda. And this means I'm stalking everyone in the tag log. And scaring them with geeky Family Ties references. It's a good thing i have nothing on tomorrow. Okay, well, that's a lie. I'll probably be wearing clothes. Especially if I leave the house. But, I don't have anything scheduled for tomorrow. I could be a good girl and go and lie down and stare at the dark walls... and sigh... and roll my eyes... and poke my poor fiance in the back until he wakes up... and try and get him to talk while he's still half asleep... I don't think that's a good idea, though. Anyone have any good insomnia remedies? I don't count sheep, my pillow is *made* of lavender, it's all very peaceful in my room... I've tried all the nice little sleepy pressure points... It's not working.

My Grandmother's on the way out. It's no real surprise, actually. She suffered a stroke several years ago and has been in a fairly steady decline since. . .starting with her mental health, and finally, her body. What kills me the most about 'stroke dementia' is that most folks who suffer it KNOW that they're not firing on all cylinders anymore. In fact, one day, during a flash of sharp lucidity, my Grandmother was her old self again. . .and actually laughed and said, "I still remember everything. . .I just get it in the wrong order. I see that I'm getting it wrong, but I can't sort it out." It killed me to hear that. A strong, Irish grandmother now dependent upon the staff of a nursing home to live day to day. I got a call from Mom last night telling me that "Mema" was on the way out. . .her body was simply winding down. She wasn't expected to make it through the night. She did, of course. . .she's got that Irish thing of hanging on, just because you can't CONVINCE us that we're actually DONE with our work. So now. . .I get to agonize about it for an undeterminable length of time until the end finally comes. Suck.

Yeah....so.....as my new friend Quicksand so recently pointed out--I have been ever-so lax in my logging duties. How dare I? HOW DARE I, I SAY!! All is well, however--in the land of Ciara--though I have drifted far from the FF 'verse until recently. I miss the RP somethin' fierce--and the relative intelligence and wit of the visitors to this site. Little has changed in my life since last I logged--all is well, and I am desperate to join the long line of browncoats at our local (Plano) theater--the birthplace of Alan Tudyk! What better homage, I ask you? Hopefully there will be much mingling of interesting people, and enjoying of spiffy movies. We shall see, children....we shall see.

Hello! I just wanted to introduce myself you y'all fine folk. I'm Arcadia, from Illinois. I didn't discover firelfy until a few months ago when I decided to buy it on a whim and I'm so glad I did! It's my favorite scifi show of all time -- easily surpassing ST:V and Startgate. The characters are just so real, their situation so compelling.... damn, I love this show. And I'm really starting to love this site, too! Thanks to every who makes the images, I've had a blast :blast: looking at them all. A little bit about me, since this is the "getting to know you" blong: I am nineteen years old, majoring in English and Gender and Women's Studies at the University of Illinois -- though right now I am seriously considering transferring to Columbia College in Chicago and majoring in TV and Fiction (how awesome is it when a school has a major that's just called "fiction"?). I have a hermit crab named Oz. I used to have two, but my beloeved Lenny died on tuesday :disappointed:. It was quite sad. I like to write, thought I haven't been as dedicated as I should be as of late. I really like Scifi, which means I'm a big hit with the nerd community... which I like because nerds are fun! Anyway, I have to write a response paper for a class I have in about an hour, so I am going to run, run away. Bye!

Anyone have any thoughts on Inara's calligraphy and Nandi's dulcimer? I wonder what their art has to do explicitly with their companionship. Is it maybe somehow a way to focus their emotional and empathical selves? I'm wondering because, well, I want to become a companion -- a male one since I am sure the future allows for equal opportunity, and I need to know how to focus my music and translate it into trading my body for money. Oh, if you're interested in bidding, www.jeremytharp.com lol No seriously, has anyone given this much thought?

Watched the series fervently on TV, registered on browncoats... reading this site for a long while... finally decided to register. Bought the DVDs really early for birthday awhile back. I am living the theme song.

Wow everyone!! Thanks for your kind words of welcome and support! I am finding out that more and more people I know are also browncoats! It is totally fun. I wanted to check out that podcast, Dark Jester, but I'm not having any luck finding it -- can you send me a link? I'll email you too. Actually went online and ordered the comic books too. They only had #2 in stock and I'm anxiously waiting for #1 and #3 so my brother and I can be TOTALLY prepped for the theatrical release! Can't WAIT!! ~Lynn

Okay, so I've been a bit 'meh' lately... so I have decided I am going to be POSITIVE. Yes, everything is SHINY. Absolutely... Things I have to look forward to in the next few weeks... 1. New Sheryl Crow album being released 22/Sept. 2. Serenity Comic #3 *and* Visual Companion being delivered, this week. 3. Serenity trading cards released 22/Sep. 4. Last day of work 28/Sep. 5. SERENITY released 29/Sep. 6. My nephew's bday 1/Oct (It's a Star Wars dress up... who am I supposed to go as? Hmm?). 7. Insulin Pump hook up. 11/Oct. (Oooh, health, yay!). So... my question being... what is everyone else looking forward to?

Ok, so it has come to my attention that my saga is abysmally confusing. (I give I, Claudius a run for its money when it comes to complexity.) This fact is not helped by the additional fact I post roughly every four months. :banghead: In form and pacing, this story resembles Deadwood far more closely than it does the pacing of Firefly (i.e. there a lot of dialogue with very little explanation and if you skip an installment things may not make sense). So I thought a little guide might be helpful. If this experiment is successful, then I’ll update this blog with the chapters. The Pillow Book of Inara Serra: A Readers Guide to Madness This story takes place a little less than 20 years after the end of the show. Mal and Inara finally got together and even had a child, Serenity. The Second War for Independence breaks out. Unfortunately, Mal loses Inara in the early days of the War. The circumstances leading up to her loss are such that Mal hates her memory and even their child. Mal has been further wounded by the loss of several members of his original crew. Those who survived have been living on Mal’s home planet of Shadow. Tensions tend to run high on the home front. Mal and his new crew, including Wash and Zoe’s son- Josh, are a special forces unit known as the Suicide Squad. They specialize in “anarchy.” On the other side of the verse, old (Atherton Wing) and new enemies (Ambassador Kali and Chancellor Lang) conspire to crush the Independence and bring victory to the Alliance. As part of their mackintoshes, Shadow has been invaded. The outcome of the war and the lives of those that are trapped in it matter a great deal to several interested parties. They deploy spies and agents to help influence outcomes. This story takes place in the final year of the war with lots of flashbacks. The series contains strong language, sex, drug/alcohol abuse, violence, adult themes, and permutations there of. If it were an episode, it would incur heavy fines from the FCC. It should not be read by children or those who take offense to the aforesaid subject matter. Tomorrow is going to be... weird. I'm eighteen. Been living at home all my life. Tomorrow I move into my new house in Nottingham (England), away from my mother and my grandparents, who I've always lived with. I'm excited. Mostly because not only are they protective, but they're totally smothering me. Even so, I know it's gonna be stressful trying to start running a whole new house. But Serenity came to my rescue! I'm going to the Empire screening tomorrow night which MIGHT be Serenity, then I'm going to see the Serenity screening on Tuesday in Nottingham, which is pretty much on my road. I don't think there's ANYTHING that could ease me into my new life better than that  Although... I guess I really should have started packing before an hour ago.

Once more, my real life is swinging around in such leaps and bounds at the moment that I don't know if I can actually call it 'real' anymore. There's one incredible thing I'm having to put aside until the time is right to return. And yet I'm doing other things as well, in a kind of chain reaction. My new job is going well (I think). I haven't destroyed anything major yet at a client and so far they seem happy with me. Still more training necessary though. Plus I'm starting to look at moving to somewhere new. And an old friend/ex-friend has offered to take me skiing with bunch of other old friends/ex-friends. I'm booking my visa for going to Australia next month. These are interesting times for me. But that's the point I wanted to make about the 'verse in general. These are the interesting times, the magic moments, the golden days for our fanbase. A lot of people are just about to see the movie for the first time. We're going to find out (probably) if we're going to get our sequel. We're going to get a whole new set of fans. This is the travelling hopefully part of the process. I think we should just take a moment to appreciate it. *takes the moment* And we're done.

The good and bad of my day... I had an appointment at the hospital today, an eye appointment. You know, where they use those feckin' horrid drops that blow out your irises to the size of Texas and then shine huge gigantic lights in them so that if you weren't blind before you certainly are after it. This is a clinic whose appt letter says "because of the nature of our clinic you may face waits of over two hours". So... ugh. Anthony and I sat there making fun of everyone in and around the waiting room, but mostly the doctors. 'Cause it's their fault we're waiting so long. And, no, it didn't take two hours, only one and a half. *AND* we were the very last people in the waiting room. Seriously. The nurse came out and asked my name, I felt like saying "why? How many more folders are *there*?", but I was nice. I was also fully expecting her to reply "I'm pretty sure you're next, let me go check", because I'm a smart arse and that's what I would have said. But she didn't. Anyways, after that we went to the diabetes center across the road to drop off the final paper work for my insulin pump (oh, the saga of this. I've had to jump through so many hoops to get this done, it's not funny, that in itself is a whole different log). And she says to me "there's been a problem". Ohhhhhh, this is where I nearly wept. She explained that the insurance companies have now put an official embargo on ordering the insulin pumps because the hospitals want to actually get paid for the service and the insurance companies don't want to pay them. (how dare they want to get paid for their work... the selfish money grubbing thieves!

I have a theory that the old guy in "Shindig" that Inara says this line to (the one in the title) is the companion version of Hugh Hefner. Yes, he is the 70+-year-old pimp that got Inara her first gig. Anyone else got a theory? (yeah I know what it means, but a pimp can be an old friend too!)

First, I don't like that I'm seeing so few ads. I know, I know, I'd complain anyway: there have been movies this year that had way TOO MANY ads and drove me crazy. But Serenity is good enough to handle it. Right? What makes a good trailer? a) Interesting characters. b) Good lines. c) A hint at the action. Now, the problem with this is, you get one trailer with one or two examples of each, and then it's repeated, ad nauseum. If a movie is actually good enough to be worth watching, it will have so many examples of the above that when you see a 2nd trailer (or even a third), there's more to feast your eyes upon. And no, I don't mean, one trailer making a movie look like action, and another to make it look like romance ("Into the Blue" anyone?). An actual trailer that's more heavy on the movie and less so on the "STARRING BOB JONES" graphics ("Bloodrayne" anyone?). "Serenity" obviously has all of these things, and while most movies cap out at 2-4 leads, we get nine. So we're set. And I think we may break the record for quotable lines in a film, though that's a tall order. I can't wait to find out. Oh, and there's lots of action. Second, I saw the international poster, and it's about eighty times cooler than the domestic one. What the hell? Someone needs to fix this. It's like the entirety of American movie execs have NO IDEA how to market a movie without Tom Cruise in it. Are Americans really so shallow that they'll only go to a movie based on who's in it, rather than actual content and story? Don't answer that. Third, and no one remembers this, but there were people who mocked the Star Wars trailer, and I mean the ORIGINAL Star Wars trailer in 1977. I wasn't there or anything, but I heard Mark Hamill talk about it in an interview. Nothing like that had ever been attempted before... well, not for a very long time (Star Wars, 1977. Forbidden Planet, 1956) ... so it's easy for the average joe to mock Sci-Fi. But when it's done well, it becomes EXTREMELY popular... this goes ditto for fantasy (as in, like, "Willow," "Legend," or oh, gee, I don't know, "The Lord of the Rings"). There's a certain percentage of people who are followers, and whereas a part of me doesn't want them messing with something as sacred at Firefly, the exposure of Joss is ultimately good for all of mankind (and womankind, and boykind, and girlkind. ... dogkind and catkind will be fairly indifferent). Anyway, the Star Wars thing made me smile. I'm only minorly worried about people who, on 9/30, will opt to see "Just Like Heaven" a second time, or "Corpse Bride." The movie will get good reviews, and everyone has to remember: if you read a reviewer giving Serenity BAD reviews, you must have the discipline to BOYCOTT THAT REVIEWER FOREVER. It won't be easy, but you must keep in mind that this person therefore has horrible taste and cannot be trusted, ever. Um........ that was all, I haven't written in a blog in months and this is why. You are all very sexy. XOXO

As many times as I've watched the Firefly series I only very recently started noticing the Blue Sun emblems all over the place, and being male--one who never pays attention to clothes, well except for the fact that Jayne keeps changing shirts in the rehearsal scene of "Ariel"-- I never noticed that it was on Jayne's shirt. So today as I was watching "Ariel" for the something-th time, I realized why River slashes him in the chest. She is slashing the emblem out of her somewhat bewildering (to her) obsession with the hands of blue, etc. How did this not dawn on me, and will someone make me feel better by acknowledging that I just now pointed that out to you too?? PLEASE ??

My mom and dad are great. When I arrive home this afternoon after running my resume around town, I change my IM status to something that shows I’m here, but not necessarily open to grand discussions. First my mother pings me, asking what on earth it could mean. I explain it is a rather funny scene from the web comic Scary Go Round (btw you have to read it, it’s hilarious, not all geeky like our other faves, but very funny). She does her mom laugh and asks about the Serenity premier (yay mom!). Not a minute later my dad IMs me. It auto replies with the message…and he, quick as can be, replies ,‘Whoa! Your message got mis-delivered.’ I had to chuckle. I imagine all things my dad now must be picturing in his mind. I go thru the same explanation to him. He sighs and tells me he thought it might have been a story about a bachelorette party gone bad. He’s anxious to start work assembling the cardboard twg for Serenity Squared. We chat for a bit. As he signs off I suddenly notice his icon…a picture of him from a show he did a few years ago…he was singing YMCA dressed as the cop. Now that’s confidence! A man allowing the world to see him doing the YMCA in full 70s Village People attire. Hmm, wherever do I get it? Did I mention mom and dad are performing in the same revue this year…this time as Sonny and Cher…mom as Sonny and dad as Cher…He looks gorgeous in the wig!

I still can't believe that I have actually seen the show, seems like a dream to me. Got pinched in the arm and did not wake up:wink: Ok, missed the Kirkland screening but had the pleasure of meeting two fellow Browncoats before the show for dinner in style - dim sum. GreekToomey and Mary (sorry, forgot your nick :crap:) it was a pleasure!

Hey all, Excited for the movie? I am! Cept fandango.com hasn't got tickets on sale yet, but oh well. I also am just wanting to say how very kind everyone has been to me since I joined this beautiful site (thank you Mr. or Mrs. Haiken). I am wondering, however, where the "Can't stop the signal" quote came from? Sorry, I should probably know this. I am trying to get people converted at my school to see Serenity the 30th, but a lot of people seem to make smart remarks about Firefly and such and I feel somewhat hurt because I can't say anything back. Sorry for taking up bloggy space! P.S. I really appreciate you for taking the time to read this if you did.

I just saw on the HSX that Serenity will have a 15$ call. From what I can tell (and I haven't been trading long) that's not too bad. If it hits it, of course. It's not a huge call, it's not as high as 'Just Like Heaven,' but it is the same as 'Lord of War,' which I'm sure will do well. Sorry if this was already mentioned, I just saw it myself. And when I say 'saw' what I mean is 'went looking for' Yeah, obsess much?

Do you ever commit yourself to a course of action, which you know to be right, but which you somehow wish you’d never embarked upon?? Yes, that’s right, I’ve gone and got myself a new job and this week is my last week at my friendly, funny little law firm where they don’t seem to mind that I spend all day reading Blue Sun Room items and surfing the net. As of Monday I shall be with a big, shiny firm, where they’ll expect me to work hard and get results … Why oh why did I decide to do this?? Yes I know I thought I was bored and that fanfic was not a way to advance my legal career, but now I think I might have been wrong … Someone tell me it’s just pre-performance anxiety, a stage fright of sorts, if you will … Thing is, I got sent a letter from my new firm in preparation for my advent, well not so much a letter as a prior warning in an envelope… It was a memo all about what I am to do in my first few days of “induction” and how, if I don’t read the three staff manuals handed to me in a “branded” bag and follow them explicitly, I will be guilty of a “serious disciplinary offence” … I feel like I’m being punished prospectively just in case I screw up and I’m as scared as all hell! Erk! Hopefully this Memo is just an example of HR gone crazy, but what if I’ve made a horrible mistake??? Worry-wort Zoot (I’m thinking of changing my name, it's got a sort of puritanical ring to it)

You know, lately, I have been visiting this site pretty much every day. That's the way it should be. I put Part II up of Family Ties. Hopefully it meets expectations. I have been neglecting some school work to get this written. I'll finish this one as soon as possible, and maybe start a new one. I'll try doing one that isn't in script format, and maybe more people will read (or like) it. "Right!...'cause teenage pranks are fun when you're about to die!"

It's not starting til next year but I'm scared already! I'm applying for honours in literature and am in desperate need of a topic for my thesis. I'm thinking..."Evolution of the Female Hero" so I can trace the origins of all those kick-arse modern gals (such as Buffy, though admittedly she does have her faults). But even so, I'm undecided and getting antsy! Uh...must think calm, soothing thoughts...Mmm, chocolate.

this is a true story. no possums or actors were harmed in this real life event. there was a possum in my yard. he had taken up residence in the window well of the study, but had relinquished all authority over his home and now sought to get out by any means. too bad he was 8 feet below the regular yard. now, i had never met a possum until the other day and was quite shocked to see one . . . or at least alive. my immediate thoughts were of firefly. (why? because everything is) anybody reading StA's treasure of lei . . . ? i am sure that that possum is going to be reincarnated as captain mal reynolds in about 500 years. how did we get him out? my mother tied sheets together and threw them down the well and he climbed out on his own that night. little thang couldn't have been more than 7 lbs. i loved him- and i named him mal. *sigh* if only i could be that close to nathan. . . in other news: i had a tea party yesterday with 5 of my friends and my guy friend had his first cup of tea. Lady Grey. YUMMY! it was great fun. "toast and tea, so sweet to me; soo juicy sweet!" also I WORE A SERENITY SHIRT! it was one of the posters i found on the site here. black and white of simon looking sexy with the words "simon says see serenity 9.30.05". people kept asking me if it was an indie flick (what i'm infamous for loving) or if it was foreign (chinese characters were on the shirt too) to which i responded "sort of?" and "it's 500 years in the future and the dominate culture is a mix of chinese and anglo" (he said he'd see it). the shirt plus my jayne hat made me offically the wierdest person ever and i sci-fi friend of mine welcomed me to the ranks of geek-hood. i am honored, truly. i would like to thank fff.net for making that possible. rant rant rant. i apologize for a rather long log. but the opossum story was just to delish!

Well, I just realized that I hadn't written a blog since June. Not that I really have much to say, but I was bored, so here goes. Family is well, besides the colds we all seem to be passing around. Skiss' pregnancy goes well, and Connor is set to be born on schedule the first week of November. Other than that, it's all same ol, same ol. My fiction has more or less stalled out. I have beginnings for several new installments to both Second Chances, and The Chronicles Of Werzbowski, but haven't been able to get very far past the opening stage on any of them. Wrote a fan letter to Summer, which was hand delivered by Robyn12 (thanks muchly) at the beginning of September. Should be interesting to see if & when I get a reply. I tried to keep it light & original, and somewhat less than stalkerish. Bit of bad news to pass on. For those of you who know Bags... his mother in law passed away suddenly this past Sunday. If any one has wishes to pass on, I'll be more than happy to do it for you. Well, that's all for now. Guess I did have some stuff to say, whatdya know. -Ski

Okay, I feel like I haven't had loads of time to blog lately. I've a stack of essays staring at me right now and I'm doing my best to ignore them for the time being. But I have to share just how many neat things have happened regarding Serenity and my students lately! Without a doubt, the kids have noticed the Serenity stuff around my room...the poster, the comics, etc. And then the trailers started airing on TV (Simpsons, MTV, Monday Night Football, etc.)! Almost everyday I have at least one student tell me they saw the trailer. Some of them say it looks cool and they want to go see it. Others, not so much. But that's okay. Yesterday one of my sophs mentions she saw the trailer, then four others instantly mention they saw it too. One says it looks cool. Then suddenly the whole class is either asking if they can get extra credit for seeing it or if we can just take a field trip to go see it! LOL So I came up with an extra credit assignment to review the film. Some asked smartly if I wanted the ticket stub, too. And I do...I know teenagers'll sneak into theatres if they can and I want them to spend the money to see it. That way we can get ourselves a sequel!! Today, just as class was ending, two students said they wanted to dress as Kaylee and River for Halloween (they could more or less pull it off) and said I'd make a great Wash, too! :D So expect some neat Halloween photos when that time comes around. I love my students!

Day 3 Well. Quite a day. I wake up at 7 and shower, and meet most of the others for breakfast at 8. You see some of our group had gone off early to secure a table at one of the Beer tents at the Oktoberfest site. Yes, at 8am. Those of us who remain make our way to the Bräurosl (Hacker-Pschorr) tent for about 9. Yes, 9am, and yes, there are beers waiting. Litre measures, at 9am. So here’s me, never gone to the Oktoberfest before expecting you know, a tent. Like a big marquee or something. Maybe a few tables and a little temporary bar thing setup in one corner. Just like we do in Blighty. So anyway, I was wrong. The only thing these ‘tents’ actually share with tents is a canvas roof, and a distinct lack of heating (which makes no difference when the place fills up to its capacity of ~6000 people). Though not wanting to become an alcoholic just yet mine lasts me 3 hours, so I don’t get another till 12. I’m there for a few more hours, and have another three litres (four in total). We eat lunch; I had half a chicken, its good, really, if you ever go, try the chicken. So after the four litres and, despite the fact that my chances of regaining entry to the tent are slim, myself and another member of the group decide to do some wandering. This means we stagger around outside and look at the shiny things, before wandering off to the nearby Bierkeller for a litre of beer. So then it’s back to the tent. The slimness of my chances at re-entry were not over-(under, I don’t know)stated. You see, I tried a back entrance, and was fairly unceremoniously pushed aside by a fairly large security guard. So I hatched me a plan! I rang a member of the group I was with, and got them to appear at the front entrance, bad German in tow, to politely request to let me in. And it worked, which was nice. So I was back in and ready for a sixth litre. It appears that we had been joined by a number of German people, who’s names I can’t remember, who I spoke to at great length, about what, I erm, don’t remember. Basically the rest of the night gets very hazy from here on out. Essentially it was filled with beer, loud singing, very bad German (on my part) and quite good English (from German people frustrated with my German).

...You wait ages and then three come along at once. So my wireless internet dongle stopped working for no apparrent reason, so I have to use my laptop to connect to the internet now. No reason, just stopped working. Stupid Belkin rubbish. Cost me £30 and it stops working after a few months... And you know what, I don't know who to be more angry at, Belkin for their overpriced crap, or me, for losing my temper and making said crap 'one' with the wall. Needless to say it is now in several peices. Do you think that my warranty is invalid? So anyway, I've now spent £52 on a new Linksys internal PCI card, and delivery for this Saturday... Ah well, throwing it at a wall made me feel better, and I was thinking of upgrading anyway, it had real poor reception so the internet would cut out all the time... I'm better off. Although I'm also £52 lighter.

so i was in my car. i had just gotten back to my apartment. i took my cd out of the cd player, and the radio came on. the first words i heard were "the biggest movie event of the summer", then it said something about a movie being made from something old, then it hit me. they were talking about serenity. then i heard the word firefly and i'm like awesome. they were basically saying its a must see film, and if you don't see it, then you suck. the commercial was playing on kroc, or is it kroq, anyways, its like one of the biggest radio stations in the state of california. hell, its world renound practically. anyways, i was so excited. i can't wait to see the film. 1 week till the movie comes out. eeeeeee, i'm like way way excited. but, that's about it. i can't wait to see how many people show up on opening day. i hope its a lot. i bet it will be. i'm actually taking some people with me. plus, i've been advertising like crazy everywhere i go, online or not. i'm even thinking about posting fliers all around the city, and in l.a. when i go to the los angeles county museum of art. anyways, that pretty much sums up everything i came on to say. i can't wait. stephanie

It is finally really hitting me, NEXT Friday I'll be going out to the theater to line up with my fellow Browncoats to see the finished version of 'Serenity' (I was lucky enough to get to see the Advanced Screening in Chicago). Frankly, I wasn't ever really sure it would happen. The TV show was hard to find, it was pre-empted for sports more often than not, and so I would stay up until the game was over and loan my tape to friends who didn't. Then the TV show was cancelled and I was so frustrated and disappointed, but determined to get my DVDs and at least continue to enjoy what we had had. Actually this was the thing that surprised me, I was having no trouble finding new fans with my DVDs: most of my friends loved the show even though they had missed it on TV. THEN the movie was announced, and it seemed too good to be true. People were saying it would be straight to DVD, and I was 'not if I can help it' (as I continued to buy everyone I knew their own set of Firefly DVDs). And just as the movie was being finished, the release date was delayed....THIS was painful. It made me worry about our BDM. It made me worry about Universal. But I was soon to know there were no worries. I got to see the Advanced Screening in Chicago, twice! These were, in fact, two of my most exciting nights in my life: May 5th because I hadn't seen the movie and I was beside myself with excitement before, during and after the movie. I knew I loved it and it was something special. May 26th because I got to drag my brother to the screening, and I knew he loved it as much as I did. Oh yeah, and we both got to meet the very beautiful and sweet Summer Glau (how cool is that?!). Now we are only one week away from the BIG DAY! Next Friday I'll be lining up at the theater with other Browncoats (and hopefully some civilians too) to see the finished product for the first time. It is so wonderful, I'm so happy. I feel that we've all really accomplished something special. Thank you Haken for this wonderful site, which has helped keep the dream alive for all of us even when all hope seemed to be lost.

Yesterday I was watching the special features on the DVDs for the hundreth time. I listened to Joss's version of "Ballad of Serenity" and it got me thinking about all the comments in the special features he and others made about how Fox insisted that they lighten the mood of the show. The way Joss sings it... it sounds a lot closer to how I imagine Mal would sing it, especially right after the war, the disbelief in crushed unblinking eyes. Despite all the hope and the difience of the lyrics, there is a really hopeless quality to the way Joss sang, enhanced by the minimalistic guitar that he sings with. I love Firefly. I like it just the way it is, but now I'm really curious as to how it would have been in Fox had just let the show stay dark. I especially wonder about what effect that would have on Mal's character. The way that he was played, its sometimes easy to overlook the sadness and hopelessness that he was supposed to the filled up with, the thing you get a glimps of in "Serentiy" when he's getting ready to fight Patience or in "Objects in Space" when River reads him. I *heart* Mal. I loved all the characters, but now I think it would have been cool if they had taken it to the next level and let the man's heart bleed just a little bit more. Then I think about the new Battlestar Galactica and I think Fox may have actually made a good call. I love BG'03, but when they have a bad episode, it's horrible. When firefly had a "bad" episode (most argue that HoG was sub par) it was still pretty good. Of course, Firefly was never on long enough for any of us to know for sure... only 6 days until the movie. Now that, I bet, will be darker. You can tell just from the previews, with all the prominent gray and blue coloring... not to mention all those creepy things the allience officer says about killing people... And River will get to be her psychotic self! yay! On a completely unrelated note, I just started taking piano lessons and my instructor keeps telling me I need to keep my fingers curled. When I curl my fingers, they remind me of claws, so I came up with this theory: piano players are actually ninjas, and if you bother they while they practice, they'll claw you tiger-style, so watch out! ahh! peace :smokin:

I have been known to stick a little dragon from one of the emoticon sites into my chat posts. What follows is sort of a nerd thing. I have been in a job hunt for some time now, having only found part time work. I peruse the job boards, network, etc.. Quite often you must include a text version of your resume in emails to prospective employers. I got tired of bringing up the text version of my resume in notepad, seleting it, copying it, and pasting it into an email. So, being a nerd I wrote a little program in PERL to push my resume onto the clipboard alowing me to put it into an email with a simple paste. I put an icon on my desk top that would execute the program whenever I double clicked it. A while ago, I realized that the little program could be used to do the same thing with your favorite gif. So, here goes: #!/perl/bin/perl # Put dino url on the clip board # use Win32::Clipboard; use strict; my $CLIP=Win32::Clipboard(); my $file="c:\\MyDocuments\\dinourl.txt"; open (DINO,$file) || die "Failed to open $file\n"; my $dinourl=""; while (

*contains film spoilers* I was watching 'Out of Gas' (my favourite episode) again tonight, and a line I hadn't noticed stood out a bit after watching the film: When Zoe is lying in the infirmary, and Kaylee is watching through the window, Mal comes out, and Kaylee says 'she's not moving... Serenity's not moving'. For the first bit of the phrase, you're not sure if she'd talking about Zoe or Serenity. I noticed in the film the same thing happens - right at the end, Mal and Zoe are talking, and he asks 'think she'll hold together?', and Zoe says something like she reckons she will... but the implication is that Mal is talking about Zoe as well as Serenity. Just thought it was interesting, that link between Zoe and the ship, when often it's Kaylee or Mal or Wash you think of as having the strongest link to it. Also, and more personally, I was talking with MyWash, who still hasn't quite figured out the internet and has no idea what my alias is on here, about his favourite female character on the show, and Zoe was last on his list! Kaylee was first. Still, maybe it was my stunning resemblance to Zoe that threw him. And I just noticed I've been signed up here nearly a year now... first signed up because I had The Worst Job In The World Ever (I think they had patented that phrase actually), which involved long periods of sitting in front of a computer with nothing to do. Since then, I've been really ill, which contributed (along with the Worst-ness) to giving up that job, I moved house to a new town, started a new job (which was great) - and now I'm moving again. This time, though, it's not to a city I don't know, but back real close to where I grew up, right up in the north of the country! I'm so happy. And it's for such good job reasons too. I'll be watching Serenity on the most northerly cinema screen in the country. A Serene year.

I kept telling myself not to but I finally did...I went and looked at the song titles off the Serenity soundtrack. Now it’s entirely possible that this has been mentioned before seeing as I waited so long to do this but the title of the last song on the CD as the letters: F-U-N-E-R-A-L in succession... I had a tiny panic attack at the sight of these letters and hyperventilated for at least 5 minutes...:knife: Once I had regained my oxygen supply, I began to think........WHAT COULD THIS MEAN???!?!?!? 1. Does someone die in our BDM? 2. Are we speaking hypothetically or literally? 3. If someone does die who is it?!?! If some one has any thoughts on this please respond!!!!! I am extremely stressed out!!! Again, this may have been brought up before..... sorry:biggrin: :hanged: oh dear....

Alright, I read about troll country, and I only just found out how many there were. I was going to post a ranting blog, but that would take up blog space. If you want to, please feel free to tell what trolls have done to you. This blog is for those who have been hurt by them. I myself have heard horrible things from them, such as how horrible Firefly is and that Serenity will flop, and I don't want to hear anything like it ever again. Just my two cents, thanks for reading if you did...

(*rant and language ahead warning* - you have been warned.) My day? Bi-fuckin'-polar I tell you. Anthony and I had a bit of a spat last night, stupid couple stuff, but it made me feel pretty upset, and I lay awake for a bit, but finally fell asleep at about 3amish... only to be woken at 3.30 by Anthony "someone has broken into our cars". Fuck. So, yeah, our cars were broken into over night. Nothing was stolen (nothing valuable, anyway, I had a CD or two in the glove box, but that I can replace). But shit fuck. Anyways, so the police (who had been called to a car break in up the street and had cruised the street only to find our house with it's *four* cars broken into and then wake us) tell us that the fingerprinting people want to go over the cars all over so we can't actually use them until they do. Fine. Early in the morning, in daylight, we discover that they'd totally bitch fucked the door locks on my car and even if the CSI-"I screwed my last assignment and now I'm on stolen feckin' car detail"-lackeys showed up they couldn't get back inside (the other cars are fine, by the way, it's just mine, of course), so we had to call a car locksmith to come fix the locks. Then my nephews were dropped off and I had a ball with them. It's school holidays and I promised them a great day, but as we couldn't use the cars and had to wait for the police, I had to improvise with staying at the house. I couldn't even take them out to a restaraunt lunch like I told them I would (it's Kyle's 9th bday tomorrow and gah, a feckin' *lunch* is all I ask). On the upside, we played the game of life. Oh. My. God. If ever you want hysterics play this game with a 7 and 9 year old. They were delighted by every single aspect of the game, the concept of insurance (life, fire, car) was fascinating to them ("if I die they give my family money? That's so *COOL*!!!"), the idea of 'pay day' was just brilliant. The hilarity of naming little pink wives and then, later, little pink babies was unforgettable (our Game Of Life only came with little pink people, it's an entirely lesbian game, I think one of the factory line workers is subversive). The concept of shares, speculating on stock exchanges... Liam, the 7 yr old, won money for selling a TV series, which I made him make a proposal for ("it's about people who go down deep into the ocean and kill sharks, I'm calling it SHARK KILLERS!"). Later, the 9 yr old had to give money to charity, who to? ("The sharks, I'm trying to stop them getting killed on TV"). And the 7 yr old was very impressed with himself when I made him work out his speen of the wheel times his status symbol ("I own a yacht? Cool!") Then we played monopoly, which was great fun, but less imaginative. I love my nephews, I really do. And, somehow, they picked up the word 'confuzzled' from me. After the games, my mum went to get pizza because we still couldn't leave, the CSI-"I screwed my boss' wife and now I'm stuck dusting your car, feck it, maybe I'll see if she's home alone today..."-guys hadn't come. Then we played some football and my Serenity Visual Guide and Comic #3 were delivered!! Wooo!! I so totally made them jealous over the movie, 'cause they looked through the book and were mighty impressed. But I told them it was rated M. They can't see it yet. But if they were good I'd show them a preview for it, I did, the 7 minute one, and they were all "Woahhhhhhhhhh!" and "Coooooooool!". And can't wait to be 15 so they can see it. Heh. Pre-emptive browncoat-ing, I tell you. And you know what? It's now 6.30 pm and I'm still stuck here because the fingerprint guys AREN"T HERE YET. Before lunch my sweet aunt fanny. Well, to be fair, the police didn't exactly say *which* lunch, but that doesn't really help me as I have to go to work tomorrow. Sorry 'bout the rant. So... yeah, the upshot: nephews = hella shiny. police and car thieves = gorram tamade hundans. EDIT: You want an update? So, we finally gave up on the cop dudes and decided to check the car out. And the IGNITION was totally messed u

Almost forgot, I SAW THE SERENITY TRAILER!!! True, I missed most of it 'cause first, Lisa was talking to me, then I turned round to see Jayne looking at me. So, naturally, I jumped and started screaming my pretty little head off...and as a result missed most of the trailer. Though I did see River looking at something in the bridge, then Mal said something, so River drew a big damn gun and Mal said something about talking...I now watch the ads between stuff like a hawk. SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WASH DOESN'T DIE IN THE BDM!!! PLEASE!!! only 11 days 'til the BDM comes to Scotland!!! YAY!!! my parents just had to live in Europe of all places...:disappointed: ttyl Zhufu ni b p.s. "Zhufu ni" comes from the bit in Heart of Gold where Inara says "Zhufu ni, mei-mei" to Nandi. It means "blessings on you, dear sister" but I shortened it to "blessings on you". Just thought you might like to know.

I had been giving my rating of a lot of movies at the Yahoo movie site, and then last night they inform me that they do NOT recommend that I see 'Serenity' because based on my previous reviews I won't enjoy it!!!! WTF?!?! Luckily they had a space for feedback or I might have burst a blood vessel; I informed them that there was something seriously wrong with their site if they couldn't tell from my previous ratings that I love sci-fi and I particularly LOVE great writing. I went on to tell them that I had already seen an advanced showing of 'Serenity', I already knew I loved it, I already knew I would see it many more times, and I was infuriated that they would recommend to anyone that they not go see this great film! grrr argh.

Some shinyness to report, up here north of the border. My local paper, the Ottawa Sun, had a two page Serenity spread in it's showcase section this weekend. Also, a local radio station had a contest to win two tickets to an early premiere screening last week. Canadians helping the signal along. -'Ski

Have you found me? I don't think so. You've scraped my surface & examined the shavings under a micro scientific scope. You'd think that such a scrutiny would reveal the multitudes of truth. and it doesn't. I've been written off, told I was unqualified, told I simply didn't have it, or posessed of whatever it was that it took, that it would seem so many others had. But I do have one thing, I've always had it. The deeper me. I faced a mockery of my passions in younger days. Spent time in the principals office for something as harmless as my faith. I prayed at the lunch table! Lock me away!!! Never have I been oh so understood and to even stand to be in the presence of those who just might indent me and find that the spirit does not snap back into place like a Mountain Dew bottle. But I fall back upon myself, in my safetied world, tis far from a mask, or a layers, or a skin, it is a hidden soul, that is so often worn on my pocket, and sometimes on my back, a large logo of three rings & a bull's eye in the middle. I once asked, "why" as my lunch was rudely interrupted by someone who decided I was worthy of a solid hit square in the face. My paisley shirt stained in blood, my blood. The shirt now cast aside as was my resolve in that stupid, stupid moment. And a wave of selfing punishment like a greying cloud thunders around. In here is healing, in here is understanding. In here, is well....here. I never asked to be understood, I never desired to be appreciated, I never signed a dotted line for a petition for anyones approval. To myself I found my greatest fan and harshest critic. So....why? Why do I pour out my depth, and tear back the layers of myself saying here look at me, beneath my skin are muscles and organs and bloody covered things that lie within every body else. and every else's body. But there is a deeper me. Am I satisfied with what I do? What I do? Is that my definition of myself? I sure hope not. No I long for more, to walk beyond yellow walls and bricking buildings. I want to walk back out to the field and be at one with the ground. To hold something natural in my hand. A sandy moment staring into the depth of the earth and there finding something of a greater beauty. and these are the ramblings of a stranger day. And yet, somehow, I write them, if only to ask, am I the only one. I know the answer is "of course not" And so I tie my shoelaces, and dust off the front of my shirt. I pick up my intangible books off this grey tiled floor. and realize life goes on. And I go on. And I realize with a chuckle, how in the midst of my greater geekdom. I found something beyond a show. Beyond nine actors & costumes & premieres. I found a motto, an inspiration. I found a creed to hold tight and never let go of. And I smile as say to myself, "I'm still flying & it's enough" and my smile grows brighter as I realize I'm not beside myself, but that she is beside myself. My ever faithful, ever loving, and ever understanding. She who would not let me hide in this self-made world. She who broke down every wall, and sought invitation to this solitary place. And I see her there sewing needle in hand, stitching an unstraight line on the sleeves of a pair of goodwill tan coveralls, and with bubbly paint she has written on the pocket the word "Shiny" And I will wear my brown coat. This is our world, our verse and our sky and when it is ours it is always enough. -R. Harris

Hey all Last year, I had decided to go as Wash for Halloween this year. But with SERENITY coming out on Friday, I decided to jump the gun by about a month and decide to go to SERENITY dressed as Wash. I'm just wondering what exact clothes he wore in the show. See, I already bough two used Hawaiian shirts at Value Village (not exactly any of his floral patterns but close enough), $20 worth of little plastic dinosaurs to carry along with me, and on Thursday, I'm going to a hair place to dye my hair and cut it at the right length. What I'm wondering about are the details. I have the basics, but I feel like I'm missing someof the specifics. Like what exact color of hair is Wash's? Is it pure red, or reddish/blonde? Does he wear a white t-shirt underneath the Hawaiian shirt and blue jeans, or something else completely? Should I spring for blue contact lenses? These are the kinda things I worry about, since whenever I do a costume, I like to go all the way and literally become that character. If any of you have any tips on how I can fully become Wash. let me know by Friday. Oh, as for Fri, I'm planning on seeing it 4 times in the theatre, and hopefully with each screening, I'll have some non-Borwncoat friends with me.

Saturday I went to the Serenity Fan Fest at Universal Studios Hollywood. The event went generally well, until the brains at the park decided to cut short the line for signings. (The celebs present were Summer, Adam, the twins, "Fanti" and "Mingo", Chris Buchanan and Loni Peristere, of VFX). Somehow the Browncoats managed to alert Adam of the situation with the dissed Browncoats, and he agreed to stick around to hang with them for a bit. I got my signing done, and then went outside to have a pint at the Irish pub across from the Globe theater. Now, for some reason, Adam Baldwin remembers me. He's asked my name about 10 times, but he forgets, yet he apologizes for it, and makes a point of saying hi to me and talking to me. He's also convinced that I got him beer back in March (which I didn't do, but if the man says "cat", I meow - or have you not noticed his size? I ain't about to argue with him 'bout anything!) Anyhoo, I'm at the pub and I see him coming and sitting down outside. The entrance to the pub had two planters, one on each side of the door. I come out, and I say, "So, Adam, can I make good on that beer you say I got you?" He turns around. "Hey, Tracy! Sure, stick around, and we'll do it when I'm done with this one." (For those interested parties, he drinks lager.) 20 minutes go by, we're in deep conversation with Adam (there were about 15-20 Browncoats there). I am standing close to him, but not crowding him, next to the planter to his right. I am holding my Serenity poster vertically with my left hand, and my own beer in the other hand. Therefore, I have no hands available for anything. (You'll see why I make a point of mentioning this later.) Like I said, 20 minutes go by, and this woman comes over to tell Adam the Browncoats that didn't get the signing are about to revolt. He becomes Jayne - he leans back in his chair, takes a swig of beer and goes, "Ah, let 'em! People rioting on account of me... now that's a sweet life!" The woman stays behind me. She taps my shoulder once to take his picture, I comply, and resume my previous stance. She taps my shoulder again for a second picture, and I comply again, resuming my position. Now let's be clear here - the man is in DOWN TIME! He's having a gorram beer, chatting and not being a monkey in exhibition. And if you already took two pictures of the man sitting in a chair, not moving, do you need a third one? And to bother someone who's been there longer than you, AND who's waiting to go get the promised beer, on his command? Well, apparently she did. Basically she wanted me to move out of the way to go on taking pictures. I said no. And resumed my position. She then pointed to a video camera in the crowd. I looked and saw it was a guy I'd previously talked to while queueing for the signing, who'd clearly said he "didn't really care for autographs or anything involving the BDHs" and that he was "there for someone else". Clearly, if the guy wanted to shoot closer, I would have complied. He didn't move. In fact, he moved further away. After about an hour, Adam decides it's time to go. So he's saying good-bye, and we shake hands to the tune of the following exchange: Me: "So you're gonna be at the Flanvention in December, right?" Adam: "Yeah - you'll be there?" Me: "Of course." Adam: "It's a date. See you then!" Adam leaves, and a bunch of us descended on the Hard Rock Cafe (initially there were 20 of us, by the end we were 40. The waitress said, "You guys keep reproducing like Gremlins!" By the end of the night, we'd converted her...) Like I'd mentioned earlier, I had no extra hands available. Imagine my surprise when I found a post yesterday in the Southern California Browncoats Yahoo! group calling me "horrible", someone who "was hitting everybody with the movie poster and refused to move", and who was "touching Adam every 10 seconds," "the kind of fan who would have been evicted from the premiere party" (never mind that there were people who treated said party like a gorram convention, asking for autographs and pictur

There's a screening for serenity in the next town over from me, it's about 30 mins away, I may be able to go to it.

Ken Tucker, New York Magazine reviewed Serenity, as was posted. But since it had a spoiler in it, maybe not everyone saw it. So here's a couple of choice quotes for those of you keeping yourselves unspoiled:
As writer-director Joss Whedon proved in his long run on Buffy the Vampire Slayer (seven seasons) and his short one on Firefly (eleven episodes), he has two distinct yet complementary gifts: He can write quick, gabby banter for an array of heroes and oddballs better than any auteur since Preston Sturges, and he can dramatize the camaraderie within an ensemble better than anyone since Howard Hawks. Thus, Serenity—his big-screen expansion of Firefly, bankrolled by Universal because the DVD sold way beyond expectations—is a sci-fi saga that manages to be at once stirring and screwball, gut-busting and gut-wrenching, and more fun than you had at any bigger-budget movie this past summer. Whedon knows you never watched the original TV show, and so he makes that fact not matter.
Here he talks about plot points and whatnot, but he ends it with this glowing praise:
With Serenity, Whedon proves once again that the storytelling and characterization featured by the best television writing are just as rich and deep—often more so—than anything in the cinema. The movie is suffused with a uniquely sardonic romanticism (humor and passion both tart and sweet). And it’s also an action movie that truly defines the term “space opera”: Serenity achieves a grandness—a heightened rapture—that few adventure films even have the imagination, or the idealism, to aspire to these days.
Right, so I went to Serenity Fan Fest at 'Versal Studios Hollywood on Saturday. I have subdivided my pictures into two albums - the few from the Q&A, and the others from the Prop Exhibition. The Q&A are regular pictures, but... THE PROP PICTURES ARE SPOILERY!!!!!! VIEW AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!! Therefore, go to:

I can't decide who I want to go as to the premiere. I was thinking River or Kaylee, but I don't know. River would be cool, but my hair is blonde, and I don't really feel like dying it, so Kaylee would be cool, because our hair is near the same color. I love River though. I could have a lot of fun as River. Jeez, it's just to much to take. Any suggestions?

I've been wearing myself out recording music for _On the Drift_, the Bedlam Bards' album of music inspired by Firefly and Serenity. In fact, I was getting so tired that I was beginnning to wonder if it was all worth it. Then last night, when I checked my email at 2 o'clock in the morning after returning from the studio, I had three really shiny encouraging messages: (1) The Signal wants to interview us about the album. Man, what an honor! (2) A fan created a really cool looking cover for the album, out of the blue. (3) A fellow Browncoat offered us a fantastic song he wrote to go on the album along with ours. In other news, I'm playing the Houston Browncoat Brigade Shindig this weekend! It should be totally shiny!

Firefly fans outside Canada and the USA can't directly redeem brownie points in the serenitymovie.com store, so I'm giving away my 6000 points as a standalone to someone who can.

I posted this at General Discussions, but that always disappears so quickly: Note: Nolan just posted this:
I've called every theater in Iowa City/Coralville and Serenity is only showing at one of them: The Sycamore 6. The earliest showtime for that theater is 12:30. I haven't called every theater in Cedar Rapids, but I did get a hold of the Wynnsong, they're earliest showtime is 1:30. As you can see the midnight showing never did pan out... Due to family obligations I myself may not be able to make it to either of these showings but if I can swing it I'll be at the Sycamore 6. Hope to see you there. -Nolen
here at the Eastern Iowa group:

Omigod...are you ready? Can you feel it? It's coming? It's out there...on the horizon, screaming toward us! SERENITY And we can count the time until release in hours now! Friends are checking movietimes at last! Plans for dinner and fun are being set into stone! Even my students are coming to me with more Serenity sightings! And more still are saying they're excited about the film, too!! Can you feel it? It's coming!

I've been a subtle lurker on this sight for a year now. It feels good. I love that there are others out there devoted to being fans, to being geeks, to being supportive of something that is just downright cool. You can compare this to Star Wars. You can compare it to Star Trek. You can pull whatever you want out of your hat and start pointing out the similarities or the lackings or the faults. But the truth is this is just one really damn good show. And this movie doesn't have too much to live up to as far as the realm of 'higher art' may go. But when it comes to us, to people like you and me, this movie is a whole new reason to wake up in the morning. Somebody is finally being original, they're writing from their heart, and they're doing it RIGHT. So thanks, Joss. Thanks to everybody out there that helped bring this to life. Thanks to this site and the people that are so dedicated, so incredibly addicted, they make me look like a poser. You guys are awesome. Three days left, everybody. And I'm glad to have been here, with you, in the looming shadow of something that's really going to be great. Sharpshooter

I couldn't have timed it any better, really... Monday: arrival of "Serenity: The Official Visual Companion" and all three covers of Comic #3. Tuesday: my fiance gives me the "Finding Serenity" book for my birthday (which is, incidentally, in MAY). Today (Wednesday): arrival of my box of Serenity trading cards and the 3 box loader sets! Tomorrow (Thursday): Serenity opens nationwide!!! It's a non stop onslaught. I just have to find something for Friday. Hmmm. Maybe upload fanfic...

Well, here I am. And there is Serenity. Big. Vivid. Larger than life. All on the silver screen. I've managed to get myself on a list as "press", as an internet blogger, to see a prescreening of the final product. So with this review, I will make it official, as I reckon I do feel some responsibility on my part to "Do the job." Now being a fan, and a rabid one at that, it is sometimes hard to keep my geekboy fandom in check so I can maintain impartial judgement. I will try to do that here, and most likely I will fail, but all for good reason. (Hopefully I can avoid the spoilers!) Serenity is a damn fine movie. Is it the best ever made? No. But it certainly shoots for the moon and gets there. The movie will certainly prove to be a debate for many generations (especially if the sequels follow) as to how good of a sci-fi movie this really is. However, Serenity is more than just a sci-fi movie, and for that reason, it may be the best sci-fi movie never to be hailed as the best sci-fi movie ever. Serenity is a wonderful, well thought out, well played story about people. Everyday people. Like you and I, or not(since I suspect most of us aren't petty thieves), but people nonetheless who try to survive everyday into the next. The crew, like most of us, are living payday to payday, and do what we need to take care of ourselves and our own crew(families). Serenity shows us that we have to fight for the freedoms most take for granted, and some would look to take from us. Sure, you could say this is a political statement by Joss, but I think you need to look beyond that. Look into yourself. I think the movie begs the question of every viewer "Do you have what it takes to fight for what you believe in?". That in itself is a bold statement for any movie to make. I think this is what sets Serenity apart from all the other sci-fi out there today. Serenity invokes so many emotional reactions from its viewers as well. While I watched the movie, I also gleaned, both by sight and by sound, the reactions of other people, both fan and not, in the theatre. Every key emotion you could invoke in a film was there. Laughter, excitement, anger, sorrow, frustration, love, hatred, anxiety and even fear(yes, I heard people yelp!) are so artfully invoked by dynamic characters (played by great actors) set in a engaging story. Joss Whedon has an undeniable skill in getting you to those emotional highs and lows during the rollercoaster of action, and sometimes at points it would seem inappropriate (I mean, who laughs during a death scene? I'll be surprised if you don't chuckle too...and then cry. Trust me, it'll happen). Without this, the drama of the movie would slide on by, probably unnoticed. Simply said, if you like Science Fiction, this movie will please you. The action, the major story points, and the special effects (minus 1 or 2 mistakes I noticed that won't be obvious to most viewers, its just a curse I have) will make you dance for joy. However, if you are the type that wants more out of their movie, or you are bold enough to drag someone along who might not be the typical sci-fi fan, you will be treated to so much more. The drama is intense. The characters, played by the same actors that portrayed them in the series, are so nuanced, that they come alive and tell you so much about the world in which they exist with simple glances and short quips. They tell you how life in the 'Verse isn't fair. How things don't always go according to the plan. How the line between good and evil isn't so much a line as it is an ever-changing field of gray. And then there are the fans, like myself, who will not be disappointed (well, okay, a FEW of you might...but Joss is Joss and he will do what he does, so you are warned) by the near seamless transition for small screen series to big screen movie franchise (that's right, I expect there will be sequels...hell, some of those Star Trek movies were the worst ever, but they keep cranking them out don't they?). Joss makes a multitude of homages to

Could you send him my way? It's 1:53 am. I'm having another insomnia night. This is a pretty bad one, actually. I first woke up around 11 (thought I hadn't really been asleep). I sat up suddenly, thinking I'd forgotten to record the Inside Serenity thing that was on SciFi. I was a little annoyed at myself for that because the reason that I'd forgotten was that I'd been trying, unsuccessfully, to write a filk for that challenge over on the UB. It turns out I actually DID record it, and several eps of Firefly prior, so I'm good, but I was really annoyed at myself. I've got the memory of a goldfish. Anyway, but that was the thing that woke me up and prevented me from getting back to sleep. I had too many thoughts in my head, too many little things to think about and I can't share most of them with you because they were about the BDM and they are spoilery. I wonder if I'll remember them after the movie comes out, because right now they make perfect sense. And so I'm tossing and turning and my pillows are too high or too low or too lumpy or not lumpy enough and I'm hot and I'm cold and the blankets won't stay put and I just can't sleep and I'm miserable. Finally, around 1, I get up, decide to see what exactly it was that I did record and when I turn on the TV I find that Inside Serenity is just starting. Yay! So that was serendipitous (ha ha ha-it's 2am remember? This is very funny.) So I watch that, and then I rewind my tape to find that I did record it in the first place, so I have it for all posterity, though I know it'll probably end up on the DVDs or something. And then it occurs to me that I am VERY hungry. And thirsty. So I do something that I never do, which actually goes against all of my insomnia rules. Yes, I have rules. The first one being that I'm not allowed to get out of bed. But I do. I get up and eat a banana. What I really want right now is ice cream, but we don't have any. And now I've broken 2 more rules, which are that I never get up to eat at night, no matter how hungry I am and that I'm not allowed to get on the computer at 2am when I can't sleep. And here I am. It's pretty sad when you can't follow your own rules. What I hate most about insomnia is that it always takes an extra day to catch up to me. I'll be tired and grouchy tomorrow, that's given. But the lack of sleep won't really hit me until Thursday. Thursday is my big exciting day because after work I'm driving 4hrs to Raleigh for the North Carolina Big Damn Movie Premiere Party. And I don't want to be tired and grouchy there. My only hope is to somehow miraculously get 10hrs of sleep tomorrow night but of course that won't happen. I have to pack and there will be all sorts of last minute things and my cat will be freaking out because I'll be packing (he can be very needy for such an autonomous creature) and of course, there's LOST. Can't miss that! And will someone please remind me to take my guitar and amp out of the trunk of my car? I keep forgetting and now my guitar's all out of tune. (Memory like a goldfish!) Plus, the amp really weighs down the back end. Okay, I'm going to crawl back into bed now and try to get a couple of hours of sleep. Sorry you had to read my ramblings. I apologize for incoherentness and bad grammar. I'll be more pedantic when I'm more awake. 'night!

Like most of you, I've been making big and long-anticipated plans for Serenity's opening night. I planned to hire a sitter, gather a group of friends, and go with my husband and maybe our teenager and his friends (if they would humble themselves to be seen in public with old people). I envisioned an early showing, followed by a late dinner and drinks, giving our group ample time to discuss the movie's finer points. And did I mention the sitter? We VERY rarely do this -- it's really a special and expensive treat for everyone. First, the stepson bows out. That's fine, I figured he'd want to go separately with his buds, and anyway he has to be up early for a school trip on Saturday. Next, the one IRL local friend I know who is also a serious Whedon fan doesn't even reply to my e-mailed invitation. What's up with that? Then, my husband ditches. He moonlights as a lacrosse referee (which, mind you, is a SPRING SPORT), and a gig he had lined up for Saturday morning was suddenly rescheduled for Friday evening. Also, mind you, good wife that I am, I had booked our Serenity date into his Outlook calendar myself, weeks ago. Hmph. Sniff, even. Now, my sitter has cancelled. Very busy week at work, and she can't get off on Friday before 9 p.m. I'm feeling downright sorry for myself this morning.

In honour of my last day on the current contract I have sent out the following bulk e-mail to the department... You can’t just shove pointy needles in my eyes and ask me what I see! Also, Hamsters is nice. I mean, what do they expect? I go out for a cig, and when I come back theres a 75cl bottle of Belgian 6.6% Beer on my desk... I mean, me, with beer, with my reputation? What do they think I'm going to do with it, read it a bed time story...

Well, Cowgirl and I showed up to the prescreening. I had gotten a screen as the result of registering that seemed to indicate that I should show up to the theater. Given that the text of the email that people did receive indicated that you still might not get into the theater, I'm just as glad I didn't get the email. We were on the last and were admitted before everyone else. Since we were amoung the first to get into the theater we got T-Shirts. Now I have a confession to make. I picked up a shirt and Cowgirl picked up a shirt. When we got to our seats, I found another shirt wrapped in the one I had picked up. I started to go back to the front of the theater; but, realized that there had only been a few shirts available. I had this vision of me standing in the middle of 400 fans with one coveted T shirt. My Son has a Serenity T shirt now. The movie? WOW

I started Tuesday by going to work and securing plans with friends for the BDM. I ended the day, watching a sneak preview of the movie. I didn't expect that. Someone in the office somehow got a sneak preview ticket, and since they couldn't go, they gave them to me. So.. my first spoiler free review of the BDM and all i can say is gorram good! A friend and I sat there speechless for half the credits. It was... amazing. Definetly going to watch it again, and then again.... and maybe more. That's a much as I can say without spoilers.

I know this is going to sound crazy but I have only seen the entire series of Firefly yesterday and I have to say that I was completely blown away. I love this show. It's a terrible shame that it had to be cancelled. We should petition to bring it back on the air, or at least try.

yes- a bottle cap. i made a serenity promo pin by means of a hot glue gun, glitter glue, safety pin and a shiny pic of jayne. small and smells like, well . . . vera? it was pretty much the only thing that went well today. i have a c+ in physics. at least my teacher borrowed firefly! if only he would give extra credit the way outlaw does. *sigh* i hate bad grades, at least my parents won't find out. SPEAKING OF PARENTS! the final decision was to watch "ariel". it went over big with my mom and my dad (tv and film genius) thought it was "good". five minutes in my mom said that it was already 100times better than StarTrek: Enterprise. gee thanks mama- not like that was the biggest embarrasment to trekkies ever. :) i wanted to show "OoG" but decided against it mainly on the premise of bester. seeing as how i'm dressing as kaylee for halloween- i don't think it would put my dad in a happy place. he's no nazi but he was talking about big corp and stuff during the movie. INARA? POLITICS? for gov't we are actually doing a fun assignment. i have to write a paper on a tv char's pol views. i picked inara because it'd be easier than any other char (unless y'all comment with hints there *winkwink*). i'm gonna go with liberal, but enjoy the distinction between morality according to book and according to inara. inara really does have a facinating code- you can still be moral without following the biblical guidelines. help in examples of why would be greatly app. esp. by those newcomers to firefly! welcome! for you i relinquish my title of newbie and become a crew member. enjoy the ride, y'all!

I loved the book....saw the movie....didn't hate it :) But the one thing that stood out for me in the musical was Bob Fosse's snake dance. Did anyone else get the feeling that Michael Jackson saw this movie and said "Hey, I can do that!", because pretty much every move screamed Jackson to me, heck, he even did an early version of the moonwalk!
Thursday, 29 September 2005 02:57:41
To quote that annoying little kid from Stuart Little: It's today, It's today! And in about 5 minutes from now I'll be sitting in a nice air-conditioned cinema watching the wonderfully spectacular spectacle that is (you guessed it) SERENITY! At last! I'd just like to thank Joss for making this possible, the crew for coming back to the project after the evil alliance cancelled Firefly, the fans for always believing it could happen, my lawyer...hang on a minute, I think I'm getting carried away...
Thursday, 29 September 2005 04:11:21
The local theater finally posted this morning that Serenity WILL be here, on 2 screens, beginning Friday. Yay!! The trouble?? Well, our "regular" babysitter (we average once a year) has a swim meet this weekend so she's not available Friday or Saturday (Sunday is out--hubby golfs). The backup babysitter? Same thing. I called a friend at 8:30 pm to get her sitters. Her primary sitter will be out of town for an drama festival. Her backup sitter wasn't home and I left a message and probably will have to wait until tomorrow after school to hear back from her. On the good side, the other movie my hubby and I want to see won't be opening here this weekend after all. Another good thing? Hubby realizes he can NOT get out of this as I'm pulling the "golf pay-back card." Heehee. The bad side?? I'm not sure we'll be able to get a sitter. Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh.

ALL day long I've been listening to the Firefly theme song (downloaded it), been on this forum all day, been thinking about nothing besides Firefly and Serenity, and I just ordered the DVD Set of Firefly tonight :) OK time to get a life. LOL. A life of the Browncoats way ofcourse ;)
Thursday, 29 September 2005 13:42:49
There have been multiple blogs posted from poor souls who won't be able to see the BDM on opening weekend. I decided to join in on the rant. While most people's reasons are unavoidable, such as having to work . . . .mine is self inflicted. I can't stand to leave my boys yet. They're only 2 weeks old today, and I don't think I could enjoy the BDM for constantly wondering if they are okay. Maybe next weekend.

I had about 40 minutes between my women's studies class and my Latin class today, so I decided to go to the student union to grab so food (I'm a college student, by the way). Outside the union I noticed a girl putting up serenity flyers on this big message pole. It was awesome! I stopped and had a five minute conversation with her about Serenity (she saw it in June *jealousy*) and when we were each going to see in on the 30th (12:10 tonight -- less than 11 hours left for me!). It just really cool to meet another Firefly/Serenity/Whedon fan so randomly. It made me happy. :-)

bwah! that's right, and i'll say it again- BWAH-FREAKIN-HA! i have several friends coming over tomorrow after school to watch firefly until we get some vegetarian food and go see the bdm! none of them are even vaugely aware of what the big deal is- but they will find out. bwah. i will dress awesomely. and i will wear jayne hat before and a grin all the while. conversions to firefly are fun (almost as fun as Jesus!). i only wish i was surrounded by more browncoats in the va area. everybody seems so far away. *sigh* that's what i get for living in the most educated town in the south. did i mention i'm making my brother dress up as wash? my almost-14-year-old brother with blond hair and blue eyes who will convert every preteen girl within a hundred foot radius? i've sunk low to be manipulating him like this- but anything for the bdm! (i'd like to think i've managed to convert a few souls this way too :)) enjoy everyone! i'll have a grand tale to tell tomorrow! though as i predict the log space with be constricted by then! i hope y'all hrs ahead of me are loving it! *kisses*

Cowgirl and I dropped by the hotel to say hi to everyone. Ashley gave us the tickets we bought and name tags. We met several of the folk gathering there. They were going out to get booze and eat. Then they were going to have a firefly marthon. I suspect they will be almost recovered by the time tomorrows events start.

So, I just got back from the midnight showing of Serenity that was a LIE! [insert appropriate Chinese here] :censored: On the movie theatre website is said there would be a 12:10 showing of Serenity on Friday... but appearently 12:10 friday means 12:10 saturday! So, now I have to wait 17 more hours. :banghead:

Just got back from a midnight showing in Milwaukee. All I can say is "WOW"! Really, WOW!
Friday, 30 September 2005 11:59:39
On another board I frequent one of the regulars said that she wasn't interested in a movie that couldn't be described in two sentences. So this is what I came up with. Serenity is a movie based on a canceled (not failed, don't ever use that word) Fox tv series from 2002, one which told the story of outcasts in a new terraformed solar system, who traveled the 'verse looking for work, legal or illegal, just to keep out of the way of the totalitarian Alliance, the system wide government which has ruled with an iron hand ever since they defeated a movement for independence by individual planets. The title of the film is taken from the name of the spaceship manned by this eclectic crew of adventurers, but the film itself is anything but serene, in fact it is one of the most intense cinematic experiences I have ever witnessed, one that I think I will grow to love more and more each time I see it, and one which I believe any lover of good films can enjoy even if they are not normally science fiction fans, mainly because the writer and director, Joss Whedon, has created such great characters and situations that most people should have no difficulty identifying with. And here's another two sentence blurb: Serenity kicks ass! So does River.
Friday, 30 September 2005 12:09:50
When I saw those words at the top of the page.... just wow. I've already seen the BDM,but now it becomes official, and it's out there, in the 'verse.....finally. As Simon said to River.... ' It's time to wake up'
