Has anyone noticed how every story in comic books or tv shows or books that involves villains or hostile aliens going back through time to World War 2 to try to take over the earth or something like that, they always align themselves with the Nazis? The two most recent ones I can think of are the Justice League arc with Vandal Savage and the Enterprise arc where the Temporal Cold War is resolved. Are they stupid or something? Why the hell would they help the losing side? Why don’t they ever align themselves with the Allies? If they’re smart enough to build a time machine they should be smart enough to pick the winning team. If I was a super villain and I traveled back to WW2 to try to take over the world, I would align myself with the Allies, probably the Soviets. I would help Stalin build war machines to smash the Axis powers and conquer… err I mean liberate all of Europe and Asia so that the Soviet Union would emerge from the war as the world’s savior and sole super power. The glorious red revolution would then slowly envelop the globe, crushing the western powers, leading the way to a glorious Soviet Empire that will reign supreme under my vigilant gaze *insert maniacal laugh*. The so-called heroes would be helpless against my might. They can’t help the Axis powers and if they somehow overthrow me, which is highly unlikely, they would throw the Soviet forces into chaos, giving the Axis powers a chance to win on the eastern front, prolonging the war and sending millions to their deaths. Anything those “heroes” do to thwart me would only worsen the situation. That's a diabolical plot for world domination worthy of a true super villain mastermind. *insert evil maniacal laugh*

I love my Ipod. I love my music. I love my "weekly fix of the 'verse." And I love having my answer to the "Question of the Week" on the air. Funky-ness! Last week's question was something to the effect of: What's your fav episode and why? Well, I said "Safe." Now, how many of y'all agree? *Sees very few raised hands* Oh, dang it all... No, but really; as much as I can't choose and would love to say all of them, I do love that eppie. Simon and River is one of my favorite relationships (not "ships," as in romantic pairings, cuz that would be...wrong.) and "Safe" did a great job of playing up how much Simon would do for her; how much they love each other. And, come on, Mal's line about "Yeah, but she's our witch. So cut her the hell down!" And then, the quote that spawned a million posts..."What does that make us?" "Big damn heroes, sir." "Aren't we just?" And aren't they just? Note: I can't post a response to my own blog: how sad is that? But to Anonymous: Okay, here I go again. Once again, I must explain that--being incredibly squemish and all during intense torture scenes--I have never actually seen "War Stories." I know, I know...what kind of "devoted Browncoat" doesn't watch every single ep numerous times? I do, however, have the basic plot points down and, yes, from what I've heard, that's a great scene. Cheers.

Does anyone else do this? It seems like the more work I have piled up the more I procrastinate. I currently have 3 papers due within the next 13 days (it was originally worse - 3 in 9 days, yea surprise extensions!) as well as a Russian test on Monday. I finally have time to work on all of it and now I can't focus! Gah!! Must. Stop. Procrastinating. Now. Must. Leave. FFF.net. Now. Any tips/hints/tricks?

29 November I was talking to a volunteer about copy machines today. She was mourning the loss of her home copier, and told me about how it was just a tiny nick from one of the parts that obliterated the poor thing. It was nothing and yet vitally crucial. I said, "copiers never tell you they're broken by bursting into flame or anything." While a little voice in my head said, "But Serenity did, didn't she?" And then I said something like, "It's never anything big either. No, it's just one little part." And then Mal was in my head… "Well it's a nothing part until you don't got one, and then it seems to be everything." Time for a Firefly DVD marathon again, obviously.

Okay, so I had this idea a while back: I found this really cool iron-on patch design online, and I was going to use it to make a serenity tote bag. But then I sort of botched my attempt. So then I had a second, much better idea: find fabrics that represent the characters and make a patch work design bag. I got the fabrics, along with some sew on patches today. Hopefully this will turn out better than my last idea. I will post a pic of the finished prodect, if I can stay the course and get it done in the next week or so

Hey all Well, tonight's my last night here in the city. After I go to GRIZZLY MAN at the RPL, my brother is going to drive me home to the farm, where I'll be working all the way to Xmas and hopefull earn enought to live off of during the winter semester till May, where hopefully I'll have a job working on a film set. But for now, I'll be at the farm for the majority of Dec. I have to be back here on the 15th for my only final. I'm kinda looking forward to this weekend in particular. I'll have the entire house to myself. All I gotta do is take care of the dogs. I can spend the rest of that time on the treadmill listening to all the audiobooks I've burned from the library and watching some of the DVD's I've accumulated through the year but havn't had a chance to watch. But most importantly, I'll be getting to finally work on YOU CAN'T GO HOME AGAIN. Now that I have no more obligations, I'll be able to focus on the story and finish the damn thing. I've been at this story for almost a year. That's how massive the damn thing has gotten to be. But I promised myself I'll finish it by the end of the year, so the next chapter should hopefully be up by Sunday. And for those wondering what I have in store, all I gotta say is this. It is going to be fucking huge. Both on a massive and a personal level. BTW, just so that I can cater to you guys, what would you like to call River's band. I was thinking The Children of Sound, but that sounds too new agey and not "voice of a disaffected generation"y. Any suggestions?

I saw Serenity in theatres and I have to hand it to Joss Whedon- it was awesome. They were true to the show and they kept it alive in the movie. However, I was SO upset that Wash died! It was so unexpected. Personally, I so much would have rathered Inara died. As much as she's a cool character, I really don't care for her all that much. Especially since she's so totally in love with Mal but is too proud to tell him. And Mal's just thick when it comes to Inara. Shepard Book dying.. Well, I don't care for him all that much either. I was just mad that we never got to find out what he had to do with the Alliance- he had a lot of secrets that he took to the grave. That scene when the doors open and River's standing there, dead reavers at her feet, holding a weapon in each hand, was pretty awesome. And that part when Simon tells Kaylee while they're on Miranda that he wished he got to spend more time with her, and Kaylee says "Oh, to heck with this, I want to live!" was pretty cool too. But what now? The show was cancelled. The movie came out. Will Joss Whedon ever start it back up again? Will Mal ever go back to God? What will happen to Zoey now that Wash is dead? Will Kaylee and Simon stay together? Will Book's secrets be unearthed? Will the Alliance be defeated? Will the Browncoats and the Rebels start a rebellion and destroy the Alliance now that Miranda's secret has been told? Oh, and why did Mr. Universe have to die? I liked him.

Hello, My local Browncoats and I have been brainstorming about how to reach people outside the 'verse. I don't know what efforts you have already made to bring people to this wonderful world, but the DVD release is not the end. Twelve months from now, this DVD will still be available at your local stores. So efforts to increase sales are not at an end. Someone mentionned printing business cards with your local Browncoat blog address on it. If you strike a conversation on the street about Firefly, you give a card. Organise a shindig, cook some bao (or buy it, cause it's tricky to do) and try to bring a friend. Then you all vote on what episodes to watch together. Our shindigs are pretty much booze-free and fun was had by all. Word to mouth is my favorite because it costs nothing and you get a good conversation out of it. If you think of other ways to spread the word, feel free to mention it here. Reminders: Folk are free to reject the 'verse and it's crazy cast... When you buy your DVD: Be nice. Make it a civil stampede...

Well, I finally took the leap. I've posted my first ever fanfic! I see quite a few people have read it already, but nobody's commenting yet! :crap: I said it already in my Author's Notes, but thanks again to Kispexi2 for your beta help! You helped me write a better story. Sending hugs & kisses across the pond. I have another story in progress, so keep a look out for it. In the meantime, enjoy "Memories" and let me know what you think!

Just had the bizarrest day, started off well enough, went to Chester to get the last of out christmas presents (for all of you not familiar with Chester, just think of the stereotypical 'ye olde englande' - black and white beam tudor housing, old coaching inns, even the original roman city wall, its all in there, and now full of shops stuffed with pretties to give to loved ones) All was dandy, pretty lights and christmas trees everywhere, pink little noses and jingly music. After getting everything we needed and a quick visit to the posh perfume counters we retired to luch smelling like a whores handbag. Food was lovely, staff so nice, we were really pleased that the day was going so well Pretty much idyllic, and then we got home. After finally getting back to our local train station, we phone a cab =, 25 minutes later still not there, we phone again, then all hell breaks loose, this guy come shambling up to us, panic'd and drunk sounding yelling call an ambulance, guy who'd been lurking by the phone box dials 999 and the guy just runs around screaming. Turns out he's not pissed, he's been stabbed in the fore-arm by his girlfriend, right in a large vein from the amount of blood. My mother, trained first aider and professional busybody, trys to get him to sit down and hold his arm up but he's having none of it. Typically this is when our taxi turns up, and gets sent away again cause she's not leaving him and i'm not leaving her. Eventually the ambulance gets called, we get him still and almost breathing normally (took both of us each holding an arm and talking him down mind)and the police turn up, he breaks free and pegs it off down the road. So it kinda makes you wonder, if his girlfriend did that to him, what did he do to his girlfriend? By this time theres about three police cars, one follows the guy and police get out of the others and start asking us questions, then this pizza delivery guy pulls over and asks them if they're looking for this guy he's just seen trying to get into every shop and pub on that road. It ended in an affirming way though, we get set to walk, knowing that the taxi company ain't gonna send another taxi for us, and the pizza guy gives us a lift home. So there are some truly despicable people and there are also some pretty damn cool ones too. Funny thing was, this guys name was Reynolds, do you think theres just something about the name that attracts sharp pointy things?

I find it slightly annoying when people are reading a book in public, especially a quiet place, and they can't stop laughing to themselves about what they're reading. This happened today when I was trying to sleep outside of my American Literature class(I get there early). I finally opened my eyes to see what the girl was reading that she just couldn't stop laughing at and to my great jubilation it was the Serenity novelization. I asked her if she was a firefly fan and she responded yes very enthusiastically. Apparently she was converted from the reruns on SciFi(most new fans I've met have been, I think it has done a world of good) and like the rest of us, now can't get enough of our BDH. :-) After our brief conversation she went back to her book and I went back to my nap. Yet whenever I heard her laughing again I couldn't help but smile to myself just thinking at whatever joke she might have just read. -e

I've just learn't the rather random and very slightly disturbing fact that my cat has a local fanclub - theres at least one person walking around with her as the screensaver on their phone. Whats rather more annoying is that for the past four years she's been conning me that she doesn't like tinned cat food - she's been getting this expensive dry food for elderly cats and tuna! (tuna is stupidly overpriced in this country, damn Europe!) and yet I just went out side and she's filling her face with kit-e-kat that some neighbour has bought over after apparently recieving a long and woe filled tale about how starved and ill treated she is... that cat is a menace, after we nursed her through her drug dependency and everything.

okay, it's funny to me... I dont know about you, but I thought I might as well post this anyway for anyone who has never heard of this site... soooo... one of my favorite website, Jerry the Frog Productions, were they make fun of all your favorite movies (or mine in any case) in ways that are (usually) not at all insulting to the fans. Well finally after so long waiting they have posted a Serenity puppet show parody. If any one want's to see it is at

It's late. My laundry is overflowing. There's about a layer two inches high of who knows what on my bedroom floor. And although I'm moving out of my house this weekend and I desperately need to pack, do my homework, clean, and bake a cake for my best friend's birthday, I have still managed to sit down and type a second blog on this site. Why? Because Firefly is darn worth it, duh! This show has really inspired me to be myself. To overcome all obstacles and let the true Courtney inside shine. I know a lot of people who love Firefly just as much as I do. And let me tell you, sitting around and chatting about it is going to get absolutely nothing done. We should be mailing Fox two letters each a week. E-mailing Joss Whedon on how great the show is. Raising money in order to start it back up again. We have to get up out of our leather chairs and out from behind our computer screens. We need to make conventions and get all of our friends who are Firefly ignorant into the show. When Serenity comes out in fifteen days, we need to all buy a copy and show that it's the greatest movie (because you and I both know that's true). So, Ladies and Gentlemen, do what you can. Give Serenity her wings back. Get the show back on air.
Tuesday, 06 December 2005 04:11:20
I never got into Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Angel didn't fit my needs. In fact, I never even knew who Joss Whedon was until about four months ago. And then Dad sat down and we watched Serenity- the very first episode of Firefly. And, my friends, I fell in love that day. And as I watched each show (cherishing every single one) I slowly slipped into an even deeper love. Some may call it "obsession". I call it "life". Firefly was everything a show should be. Action-packed, humorous, great special effects, a fantabulous script, and even a little romance on the side. It even (don't ask me how) incorporated my religion (I'm protestant)!! Never before had I been into Science Fiction. The idea of SciFi and Western in one scared me. What dope would create a show about space cowboys? Well, that dope was Joss Whedon. And he wasn't a dope at all. He was a genius. ------------------------------------- As I write this, my eyes drift up to the top of the screen, where a quote from our man of the hour sits. "I'm not an adult!" it says. "I don't want to create responsible shows with lawyers in them. I want to invade people's dreams." And lord, Mr. Whedon has done just what he wanted to do. Firefly has given me what I want to do when I grow up- write fantastic stories and make TV shows out of them! So, next time anyone says Joss is just some nerd without a life I'm going to pull s Jayne. One more death on my conscience won't hurt anything. I'm not afraid to go back to jail.

So, for anyone whose ever read my fic y'all should know I have a pretty dark take on relationships. But I've been seeing this guy for about three months, ergo the not boyfriend designation, and right now love him so much words cannot express. Let me explain. One of our first dates was to go see Serenity. It was my nineth time, but the first for him. He hated it and actually hates Firefly. There's no accounting for taste. He even tried to distract me by making untoward advances in the theatre. (I'm a long time fan...fanatik.) Still he went to some kind of convention on Sunday and after enduring dangers untold and hardships unnumbered, he was able to corner Nathan in the parking lot and get his autograph for me. All hail my not-boyfriend, the most wonderful sole (lacking good taste [except for me] )in the 'verse. Phaedra (a bad luck name)

Hey all! Still bitter about Fox cancelling Firefly?
Tuesday, 06 December 2005 22:22:28
Is it possible to hope too much? For something to happen or for something not to happen. Hoping is something I seem to be doing an awful lot of at the moment. Hoping for a Serenity Cubed convention, a sequel to the BDM, a new blog from Jewel, a new job. It worries me slightly that there may be a point where I have to accept that hoping is not enough. There might come a time when I suddenly realise that I’ve missed my chance of making my hopes and dreams become reality by being pro active. It worries me more that I might not realise when hoping is enough. That one day I look around and think, I should have had faith that everything would be ok. Sometimes I just have to sit back and let things be out of my hands. I hate being out of control. Maybe I need to address that! It is a contented person who is totally happy with what they have been given in life. Then again I believe that one of the greatest human strengths is the aspiration we have to be better, go farther, help more. The key to all of this is knowing when enough is enough. When there is nothing more to be done. My problem is that I have a great many aspirations to do all kinds of things. What I lack is the courage, the conviction and the strength to risk failure in the hopes of doing something that I’ll remember for the rest of my life. It’s been a tough year for me, but I wouldn’t change any of it. For I think it is during the hardest time that we discover, not who we are, but who we can be when the chips are down. And people surprise you in many unexpected ways. The people who we believe would be the worst ones to have around during a crisis can often turn out to be the greatest. It’s a tough thing to be let down by a friend who you thought was the strongest person you knew, and to pick yourself back up and start again, but sometimes it must be done. I do apologise to anyone who has stumbled in here by accident. These thoughts made a lot more sense in my head. It might be all the random I’ve been subjected to recently. Either that or it’s because I’ve had an introspective sort of day. Suffice it to say that I still love Firefly as much as I ever did. If nothing else I can be grateful for the fact that Firefly has brought me a great many happy things. Among them, A wholly crazy bunch of Randomites, you’re never too old to make fantastic new friends. A movie I adore to accompany the series I love so dearly. The chance to meet some Big Damn Heroes. Many hours of laughter. And last but not least, hope for the future. See, we’re back to that pesky hope again. Much Love Alison x-x-x-x

Hi! A friend told me about this site and I lurked and then I decided to join. I love the show and the movie, I have the dvd and I saw the movie 3 times and plan on getting it on DVD. I do write fan fiction but I no longer share them with people on Fic Sites. I only share with close family and friends. I would love to share my fic's with you but due to a certain websites actions I can not. I had written a fan fiction and posted it on FF.net and I dont know if you ever heard of this site called Godawful.net they steal people's fics and trash the fic and the writer. Well they personaally attacked the fic and me in the review. What they said and did was very hurtful. This wasn't just someone saying they didnt like it. My fic was very good and I even had a beta reader go over it a dozen or more times. I think the with them problem was I used my name "Nola" as the character name. She was not related to anyone on the series. I certainly dont see a problem with me using my name in a fic. I like my name, It's latin and I am very proud of it. Nola

I can't believe this. Serenity had a week long one run here. Just one week- I only got to see it twice can you believe it? One Week??!!?? What sort of a town do I live in? I've been feeling pretty terrible lately, just really down, not even Firefly has cheered me up. It wasn't just the movie, I'm just feeling so sad. But it's Christmas and all the decorations are up, we even have a tree but I just can't find the spirit. *Sigh* I'm sorry for being sucha whinger, I'm not usually, which makes this even stranger. Bye.

It's coming up. Where did the year go? And I'm overjoyed that the new year will begin with me being unemployed. Great. Yeah, totally.

I've been so busy recently with my college stuff that I haven't had a chance to write anything. I apologize to you all who actually read my stuff. Sorry! I'll be on winter break soon, so I'll be able to get something up then! Until then...where'd the rest of my stuff go?!?
Wednesday, 07 December 2005 21:57:04
I've been so busy lately that I haven't had a chance to write anything! Winter Break is coming up for me, so when I get that, I'll have time to write stuff for you guys- until then, can you bear with me? THANK YOU GUYS!

Well, my second story is now posted. It's not as introspective as my first, but is still M/S slash. What can I say, I like those two guys together. Thanks, again, to kispexi2 for being my beta reader! It's been a real pleasure working with you. Looking forward to doing it again in the new year. Yes, that means I probably will not be posting another story until after Christmas. I'm working on a long one, but this time of year gets really hectic, as I'm sure everyone knows. So, while I'll continue working on my story, having someone beta it is a lot to ask right now. In the meantime, enjoy "Exhaustion" and let me know what you think! "I love my captain."

If you have not seen the Serenity movie, read no further. In the movie Serenity on Miranda after watching the recording by the rescue team scientist, River vomits then states she is 'better'. I don't think this means she was cured of her condition, but the part of her that was affected by the nightmares from the images from the minds of the parliament leaders was resolved. Everything else that was done to her still affects her. River was the subject of a series of experiments where she had her brain pathways modified and special condition training programmed in her mind. They cut off her ability to suppress emotions. Her psychic abilities were enhanced. River was still traumatized by all the experiments performed on her. The Miranda images were accidental. River psychic abilities are still wild, she does not have complete control over them. She has demonstrated three different type of psychic skills. First and most important, there is reading the current thoughts and emotions of a person. This is demonstrated several times in the series and in the movie. There is the ability to read the psyche or memories of someone. This is shown quite well with her reading Badger in 'Shindig' and with the mute girl Ruby and the town Patron in 'Safe'. Also she can sense events happening near her. In 'Out of Gas' she said Fire just before the explosion and fire in the engine room. This may have been just heightened senses not a psychic precognition, where she felt the engine start to fail. In 'Objects in Space' her abilities are a part of the story. She senses the bounty hunter Jubal Early close to Serenity and reacts by searching the ship and reading all the crew. She reads a secret or emotion from each person on board except for Kaylee. Then she ends up on the floor of the cargo bay picking up an object, a stick in her mind, but in reality a loaded large caliber pistol. There is much speculation on how she got the gun in the first place, Mal blames Jayne for leaving a loaded unsecured weapon where River can get it. Jayne is blameless in this instance. In 'War Stories', Book is handing out weapons to Simon and Kaylee from a locker in the back corner of the cargo bay. I think this is where River got the weapon. At first I thought she may have kept the gun she used in 'War Stories' but the gun was different and she would have been spotted sooner carrying it through the ship. I agree with the thought River sensed a threat in Early and went into defensive combat mode, searching out the threat and arming herself. Just before she picks up the stick/gun an overhead shot shows the deck littered with leaves and branches, I think this symbolizes the weapons and ammunition in the locker in the cargo bay. The crack of the stick may represent her loading the gun which got Mal's attention who was on the catwalk above talking with Inara. River's combat mode is like a possession, where the normal River psyche (if you can call her normal) is suppressed into a dream state. The interaction with the crew and her friends allowed her normal psyche to push back and turn off the combat mode programming even though she was not aware of it being active. At the end of the movie River is more cogent but even with out being haunted by the Miranda images anymore, she is still a complex, scarred and traumatized person. So is she cured? I don't think so.

Helloooooooooo!!! got 2 baby teeth taken out today and you know something? when you're doped up on gas and air, it's very easy to convince yourself that you're not in a dentist's chair but instead you're leaning on the chest of a mercenary with a cunning hat...but then i had to wake up again, didn't i? :disappointed: ooh!!! think i'm getting the firefly boxset for xmas!!!! *dance of joy* dad was on amazon and i walked past. saw something vaguely space-y on the screen so i backpedalled BIG time to be told to "bugger off" (his words, not mine) haven't stopped grinning since... anyway, babble time over...have to go re-draft a 700-800 word report on drink driving in britain today for tomorrow...yay!! fun!! :knife: b

Well, I was surfing all the threads and stuff when I ran accross this one talking about saving Firefly. Finally, someone posted a link on where to petition. I think there are probably a billion places to petition because lots of people start them. :banghead: My point being: we should all stick to one. This is the only link I've found for a petition, so you can all 'sign' it if you haven't already. I don't know if it was in a post before...there is already 4,300 something 'signatures.':disappointed: I think we can do better than that.

Firefly had to be taken off the air for awesome shows like Fox's new "Skating with Celebrities" The Guy from Full House skates with Nancy Kerrigan... so many possibilities! MUST WATCH!

What do we know about Reavers? I'm a zombie-fan, more or less. Zombies, I understand. They bite, you get infected and you become one yourself. But reavers? I believe that exposing a sain person to that kind of horror, to that kind of nothing, you may become nothing. They don't reproduce but they fly a mean attack ship. Is this a bad period of human history? Is it not a question of time before reavers - as a sub-species die off from the face of the 'verse? (You may hide spoilers, but I don't care either way)

My week has been nothing but busy. At least I've found the time to update my fanfic "Have Wings, Will Fly". Go read it! I'm very proud of how it's going so far. Once all the backstory/escape plot is out of the way, I can focus more on secular adventures/romances/shipboard relationships, 'cause we all know that's the best part! I finally received my 2nd degree brownbelt yesterday after my complete nerve-wracking test that they put me through on Saturday. Only one and a half belts away from blackbelt. Shouldn't be long, now! (OK, maybe a year. Not long considering I've been going at it for 7 or 8 years. Lost count) Is anyone else super excited to see The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe on Friday? I've been waiting for this since I was little! C.S. Lewis is amazing. Like Joss. Joss is amazing. They have something in common! My plan to host a shindig at my house for the release of Serenity has hit a minor pitfall, but I'm pretty sure I can work around it. My mom called the folks that asked me to babysit their three kids on the 19th and said I'd do it, when I told her that I "was busy" on the 19th. Busy being hosting a Firefly Marathon, getting up early, and rushing out to buy Serenity and watching it over breakfast. My shindig might turn out to be more of an all afternoon/night thing on Tuesday instead. Oh, well. I'm not too worried. I'm excited to prepare some of the meals on the Serenity website, like Jayne's pie and Mudder's Milk. December 20th is officially "Celebrating the Amazing Amazingness that is Firefly Day"

I'm caught up on all my studying and I'm done with 2 out of 5 of my finals. Plus today was the last official day of class for me. And I found most of my textbooks for next quarter on amazon.com for super shiny prices. Oh, and I have I mentioned that my birthday is exactly one month from today? Oh yeah, on January 8th I will be 18. Can you say party? Oh yeah and of course Serenity in 12 days! And Christmas! Christmas is coming! HUUURRRAAAYYY!!!!!

Thanks to all those who have given me feedback on my most recent Fanfic. Feedback, both good and bad, helps me know what the reader is really looking for in a story and so I want you to know it is very much appreciated. Keep those reviews coming and keep flyin' Much Shininess, ~Kessa(YoSaffBrig)

It's funny....been trolling this site since I came across it this past summer, though only officially joined up recently (shameful, I know ). I am still consistanly amazed at all the shiny stuff we few, the proud, the Browncoats manage to produce on a fairly regular basis. But that's where my problem sets in: you guys and gals are just too gorram psychic for your own good! :banghead: Now, before everyone starts wondering about what the diyu I am rambling about, please understand that my issue comes more from personal frustration than true ire at everyone. The isssue is this: every time I think up a cool idea to throw down in a fanfic, I either discover it has been done either exactly the way I imagined it or pretty close awhile ago in a fanfic...or, as with Kaynara's Bedlam series, have just seen the wonderful idea I wanted to try out done quite well just recently. I guess my frustration comes from the fact that I would feel like a petty thief if I wrote something that had elements seeming taken from other members' fanfics (even though that would be untrue). All these amazing tales make me wanna add to them real badly like, but...I don't wanna seem like I am trying to gain something through theiving someone else's stuff. Anybody ever have these kinds of thoughts?

It's opening day here for Narnia, and I awoke to a winter wonderland... everything is covered in pristine, white snow... what a clever marketing ploy

Some people seem to think that Book was an Operative, that he blindly followed the Alliance, and committed many evil acts but always believing that it was for a good cause until he learned the truth like the Operative in the movie and lost his faith in the Alliance. I do not agree with that theory. I think that Book was not that different than he is now. I think that Book was someone very important and he was very power. I think that he did many evil things and he knew they were evil but he still did it because it was the right thing to do. Just because something is the right thing to do does not mean it is pleasant. There are many situations where you are forced to choose the lesser of two evils. I don’t think that Book became a shepherd to atone for things he did that were wrong, I think Book became a shepherd to atone for things he did that were right. I just saw the trailer for Superman Returns and it got me thinking about two things that have never really been addressed, Superman’s potential and Krypton’s legacy. Kryptonians are far more advanced than humans. They’re like a million years more advanced than humans in terms of both technology and biology. The fact that Superman was raised by humans is almost analogous to a human being raised by monkeys. Humans are holding Superman back. Humans are preventing him from reaching the full potential of his heritage. I really hope that the movie deals with that. Superman is all that is left of Krypton. He alone holds the legacy of his entire race. All the history, knowledge, experience, and wisdom of Krypton rest with him. Those are things that can benefit earth enormously but instead of imparting upon humanity all the wisdom of Krypton, Superman has adopted the values and ideals of the human race, values and ideals that are less refined and less evolved than those of the Kryptonians. He has done very little to propagate the legacy of Krypton to advance the evolution of the human race.

Ok, so my whole life I thought it would be the best thing ever to have my own little spaceship and fly around with a crew and do stuff. (Awfully vague). Then I saw an episode of Firefly. Fook. That's what I want to do with my life. Yup, I said it. I want a spaceship. Sounds retarded i know, but oh well. I just finished rewatching the entire series. I am going to catch the last showing of Serenity in a few days. I've been trying to get my girlfriend to go and see it for weeks. Things keep getting in the way. Er... Actually ex-girlfriend I should say. Ex or no though. She must see this movie. It's amazing!

when I'm bored senseless, nursing a bottle of Brisk iced tea. That's Brisk, baby. The scent of soy sauce from my sushi lingers, because the trash can with the to-go receptacle is near my desk. Forgive me for boring content, but the content is only as good as the source material. You can't make diamonds out of poop, or at least not right away. It takes thousands of years, and I don't have that much time. Ah, that confounded Christmas movie with the stingy banger and what's his face, that actor who died sometime within the past five years. "It's a Wonderful Life," with... the guy who was in "To Kill a Mockingbird" and some loopy space movie with Gene Hackman. Those are the only movies I can remember him being in. Brain...working...sluggishly. This guy also served in World War II. I remember these facts about him, but not his name. People like Don Rickles also imitate his voice. It's distinctive, with its nasally sound. Wish his name was more distinctive than his voice. Then I wouldn't be going on and on about my own ignorance. So this actor will remain nameless. Since he's dead, he won't mind too much.

I Got My Poster, I Got My Poster! Goodness, I'm like a young kid at Christmas! My local rental place is run by a fellow that has known me for many years and when I asked him to save me the poster for "Serenity" he did! He got one for me that hasn't been hung up and is in pristine condition. My daughter who is artful is gonna frame it for me! I'm so excited! Sometimes it's a blessin' to live in a small town. We also got our Christmas tree up and it's twinkling merrily. Looks like the door to Kaylee's room. :)

Having this shiny new blog, I figure I might as well use it. Since I've already got a LiveJournal and I'll soon have an actual blogspot thing on the way, there's really no need for me to have a third place for additional content. The LiveJournal will be for my ramblings on my life and stuff like that. The blog will be for my film reviews, essays on film, crap like that. Hey, I'm a film student. It's what I do. So here's what I'll do. Since this is, in fact, a film/TV oriented site, I'll do periodic paraphrases of my movie reviews every month or so. The first entry y'all can expect is my Top Ten of 2005 sometime around the end of the month. Now I know you wouldn't want to miss that. Stay tuned.

...The dangers of free alcohol. So I left my car parked up outside my house the other day, and forgot to push the driver’s side wing mirror in. Imagine my glee when I get up the next morning to find some yu bun duh hwoon dahn had taken the wing mirror off. These things can take quite a whack before they get broken off (seriously I caught one doing thirty once, it just bounced right back into place). So somebody not only drove so close to a parked car that they hit the wing mirror, but they must of being doing well over thirty miles an hour while they were driving dangerously close to parked cars. Given that the speed limit of thirty miles an hour is a little fast for my road at times I’m thinking that calling them a dangerous driving moron is more than generous. They probably drive a BMW. Okay, so how many of you reading this own a BMW? On the plus side since driving is part of my job, and since it’s illegal to drive without a driver’s side wing mirror, I had to wait till 12 noon on Wednesday for the garage to pickup my car. Then after that there really was no point going into work so I had an unofficial paid holiday on Wednesday. I hope to find out who hit my car someday, just so I can return the favour, preferably in an act involving me, their car, and a two pound lump hammer. See how they like it. Anyway. It was my works Christmas party on Friday, so two colleagues and I drove the couple of hundred miles to Bristol for too lift a few jars. As can be expected of England the weather was glories, fog sweeping in over the low hills ended with a journey that took much longer than it should have. Not good since I didn’t want to go in the first place. I mean, there are pubs just down the road from me. I don’t need to travel halfway across the country to get drunk. But we arrived eventually at around four o’clock. Met up with a lot of the other guys, who had sensibly taken the train and so arrived much earlier (though they also had to work in the morning, I got the whole day off HA!). I checked into the Hotel (paid for, nice) and got showered and dressed. Then I get a phone call from one of the guys I drove up with, along the lines of “Where are you?” So I find out where everyone else is, and how to get there, and then I spend ten minutes walking in the wrong direction because I thought they said right then left, instead of left then right. But I arrive eventually, then I have to wait for a drink. So I wait. Still waiting. Hey, still haven’t got a drink here. Someone’s complaining cause they’ve just finished theirs (they had nearly a full pint when I got there). I’m thirsty. ahh, at last! Hmm, never had Budweiser on tap before… So sometime goes by, lots of beers are drunk and then it’s time for dinner. I had Steak and chips, medium rare, and it was really nice. Though my manager did end up eating at the same table as me, which wasn’t the most fun ever. But the night continued much in the same vein. Huge amounts of alcoholic beverages, and general merriment made for a fun time, but not that much in reportable events. That is until a group of the London engineers and I went on to another pub. Well, I walked off with two others and we ended up wandering around Bristol talking to students, and finding out where the best places to go were. Funnily enough they didn’t want to join us, which is just rude, who wouldn’t want to join a couple of pissed up Londoners on a night out? Crazy. Anyway we ended up joining the other guys at a sports bar for a few beers. Beyond one of the guys getting drunk and saying the normal drunk stuff: “I love you man, anyone screws with you, and I’ll kill-em…” Lots of cool stuff happened. Now before I explain this next part I want you to understand my full meaning. This guy has worse luck with the fairer sex than me (seriously, he threw up on a girl once). So imagine our abject shock and surprise when a big group of Women came running up to us shouting: “It’s him, I told you! It’s Daniel!” So for the rest of

I'm getting Firefly on dvd for Christmas! and Serenity!!! *happy* I didnt have enough money to get both the last time i checked, so my aunt and my parents decided that since i was home for the holidays and would actually get my presents on time this year, they might just have to spend a little more than planned...  and I find myself curing in Chinese a lot lately, for a lot of reasons.... and for anyone who reads my fanfics and all, which i doubt very many do, but I'm sorry for the lull- I'm getting surgery on a certain appendage and I'm having a little drama in other parts of my life, so... I apologise. Happy Holidays people... * --- ------- ----------- ------------- ----------------- ### ### ~ladyisapirate~

I am about to die...and before I keel over from disbelief I will take my fiance down.... Let me tell you what happened.... I got a good friend at Flanvention. She called me everyday to tell me what was happening and we squeeled and had a fun time talking. Saturday I had to go to my fiance's father's 50th bithday party which was also a family reunion. The next day I slept in. She calls me Sunday night and puts Joss on the phone. I squeeled and he asked me a question and I answered. Just then my guy comes in and starts hopping on the bed and making noise cause he wants attention... I motion for him to shut his pie hole and he still makes noise. (he always does this while I am on the phone) I can't even hear what Joss is telling or asking me. I had no choice but to laugh like I had any idea what he was saying... After he's off the phone I tell my guy who was on the phone....he deadpans and calls me stupid for not telling him. I said "I told you to shush." He says, "You always tell me to shush while you are on the phone." I said "Because I mean it." I was so upset with him not listening to me at this landmark moment because he's so needy for attention all the time I had to go take a drive for an hour. Tell me....what would do you in this situtation?
Monday, 12 December 2005 10:59:51
Ok so firstly my fiancee is heading back to Canada, I'm joining him in around two months but I'm miserable in the meantime. But the other thing is can anyone recommend some Jayne fan-fic. I've read all the ones on here and I want to read some new stuff new stuff.
Monday, 12 December 2005 14:52:41
...a crappy day. One of my best friends at work got fired last week, and she has just been in to clear out her desk. That's it, no more talking Firefly at work, she was the only other person here I have managed to convert (bunch of uptight purplebellies the rest of em). I just told her about Serenity 3 and 4 conventions in London though and she really wants to go to them with me, so I will pray for more details soon so I can keep her posted. So, I tried to convert some other people, leant them my DVDs and they couldn't get into Firefly, said it was wooden and unconvincing. Anyone else had this kinda trouble?
Monday, 12 December 2005 15:50:36
So wow. It's been, what a month since my first and only entry. Will you all forgive me? I hope so, as I finished my first fanfic today! *Yay!* [iNow if I could just figure out where to post it... Well Ihope you all go and read it,. It is a Mal/River paring, even though I am a Rayne shipper! I can't help it, they're just so right for each other! Any way, I'm gonna go try to post it now. Love!

I am watching FIREFLY on SCIFI for the first time. Friday, I watched The Train Job. This show is soooo good. I thought the episode was bitchin' man. I can't wait for next week but I am trying to download all the episodes from Limewire now that I am hooked and proud to be a Browncoat!
Monday, 12 December 2005 16:42:08
Ni-Howdy, Just after I posted about a dozen announcements to the web about our Browncoat page, including the "Hero of Canton" karaoke, we discovered that the link for the karaoke did not work. (It turns out we were having memory issues. The webmaster forgot to upload it!) Anyway, the link works now, so if you are one of the many who knows the song by heart and wants to make a stir at your local karaoke bar or Shindig, please download, rip, and distribute that karaoke version of the song! I just got my comic books in the mail, delivered at work. On the box it's handwritten: 'Mary - look for small extras when you unpack ' and on the label 'We have done the impossible and that makes us mighty' I feel so comfortably ensconced in the cult! Must not open box, work to do, cannot read comics now, resist resist ...

This is a new firefly petition, that I think should become the new official one, it is a request to sci fi executives about a renewal of the show firefly.

I am aware that I haven’t posted in a while to tell everyone how hellish work is and I’ll tell you why – it’s because I’m now so damn miserable, I just can’t be bothered … But now, it’s 7.30 p.m., I’ve been here for hours and hours and I ain’t showing signs of going’ home, so I’m gonna tell you why: (a) I got charged £20 for going over drawn at my bank cos only got paid half my salary again because I am a new joiner and they can’t work out the pay roll properly; (b) PLUS there are enormous ructions in family over my uncle selling his business, which I own a % of, as he won't tell us anything and is trying to get us to agree that he can sign all documents for us (this is where having a lawyer as a niece makes it terribly hard to screw over your family); (c) PLUS went to party at a friend's at the weekend who has just had cream carpets installed and she forced everyone to remove their shoes and was majorly paranoid re spillages - which, what with 50 people in the tiniest flat you have ever seen, happened about 60 times a minute – the guests spent most of evening huddled in groups trying to get stains out of the carpet with vanish - which annoyed the hell out of me; (d) PLUS had a car accident at the weekend - entirely the other guy's fault but cannot now drive my car as is illegal until I get headlights fixed - so am travelling to work on the train in the cold, cold dark, while I await the ridiculously drawn out process of getting a hire car ... (However, due to nature of the accident (I was travelling quite happily and minding my own business down major road in stream of fairly heavy traffic when young squaddy in escort pulled straight across in front of me from a side road, causing me to simply smash into him) the other guy's car was pretty much totalled!! One whole side squashed in like a tin can - hurrah for German engineering!!! I have a VW Golf); (e) PLUS have had terrible back ache for about a week - think it is sitting hunched over computer continually (f) PLUS desperately wanted tomorrow morning off (and obviously can't have it) to see my very bright 3 year old niece in her starring role as Brian the Naughty Elf in the playschool play (complete with blond wig, since she announced she'd rather be Rapunzel and they need her as Brain and are acquiescing to her every whim). So I’m sorry I haven’t been posting and I’m sorry I'm all bah! humbug! At this festive time of year but I’m just plain low down and gorramit miserable!! :banghead:

I must admit, I am a little jealous of everyone who got to go to Flanvention. They have to have one in NYC, I can't get all the way to CA. But, I did get to meet the darling Alan Tudyk at the stage door of Spamalot on Nov. 30 (the day that will go down as the day I found out wishing on shooting stars works.) What a sweetheart he is! Maybe next year

so i am uploading some of my artwork today, that is if i can get my scanner to cooperate with me. anyway i am excited that the DVD comes out soon. as you could tell i like drawing ships so there are a lot of new classes of ships for me to draw. i am trying to save money to buy the RPG book. not to play the RPG but as a reference guide. i have heard many good thing about it not only being for RPGers. (had a bad experience with D&D when i was younger, it seemed that when every i showed up no one else did. that is what got me into believing in conspiracy theories.) anyway i have found this to be relaxing to draw ships. i might make up a fanfic about one of them because i kind of like the way it looks. my second alliance cruiser picture is what i am talking about . any comment just put in the comment box Swabbie

Well, I've just spent me two days I'd just as soon like to forget... had a hell of a weekend though, at a friend's x-mas party... I'd almost think the sick was related to the drink, if it weren't for the more'n 24 hours between the end of one and the start of t'other... last two days have had me lain out on my back, not even able to crawl to my computer to read or post anything... an' I sure as hell h'ain't been gettin' no writin' done, tha's fersure... Well, my cognisence is slowly returnin', and i'll be headin' back into work tommorrow, lesen' things get aweful worse again over night... till then, if there's a shepherd amongst y'all, you might want to spare a kind thought my way an' ease me outta this horrible flu like affliction... then maybe I can get back to writin'... things seem to be slowin' down round these parts as the holiday season approaches... gotta keep at my part... do my best.. ah gorram it, I'm ramblin' again.. best be gettin' back into bed... till later...

on a visit to the cinema with your folks anyway... (BTW -spoiler alert, not much of one, as everybody probably knows the plot of the Chronicals of Narnia anyway, but its now up to you) It was the bit where Peter is fighting Maugrim, the Queens henchman, and Aslan calls the others off, and says something along the lines of 'no, this is something Peter has to do for himself...' My inner idiot took over at that point and spouted out (yes, you guessed it) 'no! no its not! Earning me a smack around the head from the parents, and another when I yelled child abuse. I think it was the final straw after all my uncontrollable giggling whenever Peter pointed a sword at anyone, something about as natural and threatening as Jayne composing and reading aloud love sonnets... Apart, or maybe bacause of that (P's fight with the Queen is spectacular) bloody good film, Including the soundtrack, if we do get a sequel, I think Narnia's composer would do a fab job with Firefly's existing themes and motifs. As an aside, I'm always hearing this stuff about Narnia as an allegory for christianity, Aslan as a christ-like figure and whatnot. It's interesting to note, that though everyone is fighting for the good and evil sides, and good wins, at the end of the day, lives are restored, injuries healed and life continues in bliss thanks to 'old lore' and the gift of a pagan icon.

Just watching the FOX (so sue me) series 'Bones' with David Boreanaz...they talked about being home, "watching re-reuns of Firefly" or some such... That ought to pique some interest
Wednesday, 14 December 2005 02:16:02
Hi folks, well 'Jayne Goes Home' is finished- well I have a small suprise up my sleeve but aside from that it's done! I gave it to one or two people to read first, and they say I could turn it into a series well, as much as I love the series writers, I tried to write one myself and I judt end up hating it. So no series. This wasn't even supposed to be this long, but oh well I hope everyone likes it- Please be nice the endign got crap and clicheed so just PLEEEEAAAASSSEE be kind. Hope everyone is ready for the Holidays Seasons Greetings

one guy was telling a robot to "stop", robot ran. tells it to "turn", it stops. other guy says "that robot reminds me of you...tell it to take out the trash, it watches re-runs of firefly." gaw it would be so nice to get tv episodes...or dvd... of the 'tween. (between the movie and the original series). i still haven't gotten around to getting the comic books. zoe, our dog is growing so big. from about 7 pounds to now a whopping 30 pounds. she's had all her shots, and her and my other half are taking a long road trip to visit his folks. i'll be working an 8-day shift, so it's all good. we haven't even started shopping. i'll do mine while they are away. so when they get back holiday eve, the tree will be decked out with presents.
Wednesday, 14 December 2005 02:46:48
Bones is on right now, on FoX. Two of the characters were messing with this robot for some reason and the robot was messing up the commands. One of the characters (can't remember their name) said something to the effect of "That robot is kinda like you. You tell it to stop and it turns, you tell it to turn and it stops, you tell it to take out the garbage, and it watches re-runs of Firefly." Perhaps the writer of Bones is a fellow Firefly enthusiast... Anyways, thought that was ironical and hi-larious...thought I'd share it with ya's.

I was in this digital print shop the other day and while I was waiting for my order I picked up this industry magazine. While flipping through it I came upon add for this visual editing program and in the screen capture was a picture of Mal with his gun drawn! I know it it’s the geek in me, but it made my day to see it.

Ok so I am on a roll here with the log entry. I saw my first commercial to the Serenity DVD tonight on FX. I have to say that it looked pretty good and hopefully it will generate interest in the BDM DVD!

'TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS HE LIVED ALL ALONE, IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF PLASTER AND STONE. I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE, AND TO SEE JUST WHO IN THIS HOME DID LIVE. I LOOKED ALL ABOUT, A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE, NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS, NOT EVEN A TREE. NO STOCKING BY MANTLE, JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND, ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES OF FAR DISTANT LANDS. WITH MEDALS AND BADGES, AWARDS OF ALL KINDS, A SOBER THOUGHT CAME THROUGH MY MIND. FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT, IT WAS DARK AND DREARY, I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER, ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY. THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING, SILENT, ALONE, CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME. THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE, THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER, NOT HOW I PICTURED A UNITED STATES SOLDIER. WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ? CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED? I REALIZED THE FAMILIES THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT, OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT. SOON ROUND THE WORLD, THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY, AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY. THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR, BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS, LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE. I COULDN'T HELP WONDER HOW MANY LAY ALONE, ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME. THE VERY THOUGHT BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE, I DROPPED TO MY KNEES AND STARTED TO CRY. THE SOLDIER AWAKENED AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE, "SANTA DON'T CRY, THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE; I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM, I DON'T ASK FOR MORE, MY LIFE IS MY GOD, MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS." THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP, I COULDN'T CONTROL IT, I CONTINUED TO WEEP. I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS, SO SILENT AND STILL AND WE BOTH SHIVERED FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL. I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT, THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR SO WILLING TO FIGHT. THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER, WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE, WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA, IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE." ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT. "MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT." This poem was written by a Marine stationed in Okinawa Japan. Folks...at times like this, we must remember that it's not important if you support the war in Iraq or not. It's not important if you support the President or not. What's important is that right now, there are families with empty spaces around the dinner table...around the Christmas tree. Our friends and neighbors. Our sons and daughters. Our brothers and sisters. Our mothers and fathers. We all support THEM...love THEM...miss THEM. During the holiday season, before you tear into the shiny under the tree, before you dive into the Holiday meals... please remember those who are overseas.

Yeah, so I get all excited about finding this site, and make some big ol' plans about exploring and participating and being a good cyber-citizen and all that stuff... ...And then I download a trojan horse onto my 'puter, effectively hamstringing my ability to connect with the 'Net at all. So the moral of the story is that one should not ever open an email from the CIA, no matter how scary and convincing it checks out. One should apparently trust that, as my hubby so succinctly put it, "If the CIA wants a word with you personally, it won't be by email." Live and learn, I guess. Now I just need to find an effective way to wipe the little trojan bastard out of my machine. :) In the meantime, there's always the school computer lab... Sigh... Maybe Santa will bring me 'Serenity' for Yule. :) I can say, however, that the bits and chunks I've been able to get my hands on around here impress the crap out of me. The fan-fic is of a scary-cool quality, and the general commentary is insightful and articulate. The fact that it's all about this phenomenon called 'Firefly' makes it even cooler. You folks rock. Thanks for being an island in a fast-flowing river of Life Happens. Happy Holidays and stuff-- shieldmaid

A few minutes ago, an immature (probably 2nd year plummage) Bald Eagle flew by, just above treetop level! Speaking of eagles, my first really good view of the season was a couple of months ago, while driving up to Cedar Rapids (Iowa, USA) to meet with some other fans to see Serenity yet-again. As I got near the Iowa River, I saw a large dark bird soaring... and it suddenly tilted such that the bright white head and tail were unmistakeable. I figured it was a good omen for an Iowa based mini shindig.

I know I was one of the people who promised--scratch that...swore to post all about the weekend that was Flanvention. And I will, post, that is. I just can't seem to A) find the time and B) find the memories. They are fading!! :S My brain has that weird habit of doing that to me. It happened this summer after ComicCon, and its happening again. This is why I need to invest in a video camera. But I will write. Or type. I will type until I finish in detail, what happened over the weekend...crazy stories, embarassing moments, and funny hijinks will be included (or at least the ones I remember).

So I have been reading plenty of fanfic lately, and on a side note we have some really great writers on here. I see that lots of people write Jayne and Kaylee together, and I understand that everybody has there own opinion I just have the hardest time seeing Jayne and Kaylee together. Jayne isn't polite and/or nice, but he is a good man still. I just can't picture him with someone so happy and optimistic. Of course Jayne loves Kaylee but I never thought of him being in love with Kaylee. I think that if Jayne fell in love it would be reluctantly and maybe even with some resentment for the person who turned him into a softy. I always kind of pictured River and Jayne together. I know, age difference and crazy girl but hear me out. I don't think of River and Jayne as a sexual relationship because Mal would Airlock him, Zoë might shoot off his manhood and with skilled swords"wo"man Inara, everyone aboard the ship would have to argue about who got to kill him and how. I think of their relationship more like the one in "The Professional". In love but that’s all in love no sex no touching really just the need to protect and flat understanding of things without ever talking about them. If you haven't seen "The Professional" then this makes no sense and it does make more sense if you see the lengthen version. And remember I am not a writer this just what I thought while sitting at my desk at 1:00p.m. without phones ringing and everyone gone from the office I have nothing but to do but speculate. What do you think? River/Jayne, Kaylee/Jayne, Simon /Kaylee, or what?

I tweeked my back putting up X-mas decorations yesterday and now I am in some serious pain. And now, I am forced to study for finals. My next one is tomorrow morning at 8 am, and I have to leave the house a like 6:30 to beat traffic. My last final is Saturday morining, and I have to get at some un-godly hour to be there on time. I can't remember the last time I had to get up that early, I've been fortunate enough to have all afternoon/evening classes this quarter, but no more. Alas, I must start getting out of bed before 10 am. Just not right. Wish me luck people.

New to this whole thing, but I like this site. It's... impressive. I think I'll be staying around for awhile :)

Doesn't it bug you when you're serving someone at work and they just start talking on their cell phone? This bugs me, it makes me feel really unappreciated, like I'm a second class citizen. Anywho, did anyone who read the Adam as Dash Rendar post know for cert if it's a hoax, because if it is someone got my hopes up awful high and I'll be so hurt if it's not true, especially since I'll be in Vancouver, which is a darn sight closer to Alberta than Nowheresville Australia. Anyway I'm still all alone in my house, and I still am feeling totally lonely. On the plus side my fanfic is finished (YAY FOR ME!) Oh well have a great weekend guys and dolls!

Did anyone read the latest issue of EW?? there is a small article on Joss Whedon and the future of Firefly. He says quote "In the end, it was a tough sell" adding that it appears the Firefly saga has reached its conclusion". The title is "Adios, 'Firefly'. Has anyone read this? I am kind of freaking out here.

So, graduation from college. Check. Summer in France, check. Death defying feat skirting a fourth story rain gutter...check. Its a long story, and you wouldn't believe me anyway, especially once I told you there was a nun involved. Now that the important stuff is out of the way I get to persue my lofty goals of working for a computer animation studio. Wish me luck (lots of it) my firefly friends. I'm sending a resume and demo reel to Zoic. Friday. Do I expect to even hear back from them? Hell no. I know, I *know* I'm going to end up working for Electronic Arts making cars or some such and pulling 50 hour days. (how can you pull a work day that has more hours then the accepted day/night cycle? Don't ask.) But, A man has to dream, and most of mine involve hammering virtual rivits into the sides of equally virtual spacecraft. So, wish me luck. I'll be too busy talking to the night sky in the vain hopes that jimmeny cricket shows or my fairy godmother shows up to ask for some on my own.

Agent Starling: "He watches the Firefly DVD set constantly. He listens to his favorite singers over and over until his ears bleed. He-" Dr. Lecter: "No, that is incidental. What is his nature?" He obsesses. Boy, do I! I love me some obsession. Love it like Homer loves donuts, like Duncan loves dunking, like Nick loves Jessica... urm, scratch that last one. But why? Why must my mind constantly drift back to the same obscure singer or cult TV show like it's stuck in some kind of loop? Why must I feel like I have to share those obsessions with casual friends - most of whom probably couldn't care less and think I'm progressively more insane with each crusade. Who knows. Thank God it's fun. Unless you're one of my friends, of course. +++ Recently finished a collaborative Firefly fic with my wife. It can be found here:

Well, henceforth it is the beginning of the Christmas holidays down here at the good ole University of Kent. Three weeks off! (But I don't get paid which is a bummer. But I'll survive I'm sure.) Today I'm off to dinner with the Randomites, well some of us anyway! Can't wait to see em all again. This is just a quick blog to say that I won't be around these parts much over the next three weeks. So if you could all make sure that nothing interesting happens during the time I'm away it would be greatly appreciated. Nah, feel free to have all the fun you want, just so long as someone tells me all about it when I get back! Happy holidays! Much love Alison x-x-x-x

Well, I finally handed out my 12+ invitations to a Firefly marathon/Serenity premiere on Tuesday! It's gonna be an all-nighter, but I'm debating which episodes to show first. Ideally I'd like to start the movie before midnight, and show at least the pilot Serenity, Shindig, Jaynestown, and Objects in Space, but I really want to show War Stories, and Ariel, and more, but time...well, the party starts at 6pm and we're gonna order chinese food, and I'm making Mudder's Milk and possibly Jayne's Pie featured on the main site. I'm thinking that what we don't finish we'll watch in the morning. I really wish it could start earlier, but that was the earliest time I could get. C'est la vie. Here's to hopeing it will be a success, and hopefully end with a few more browncoats to add to the pot!*runs off to make decorations*

For the past 8 months I started my day hearing the words,"Good morning geniuses, philospher kings and queens, working class heros, progressive utopians (with no sense of humor),and lurking conservatives.." It was the daily intro to a morning radio show called Morning Sedition. The show, it's neurotic host (Marc Maron), his co-host (Mark Riley), and their bits really grew on me. Well the fact that I liked it must have brought on a curse, because it was cancelled. Friday was the show's last airing. Morning Sedition wasn't cancelled because because the onair skits weren't funny or because the show had poor ratings. It was cancelled because one suit made a decision based on his personal opinion of the show's host. While this may make a some Dittoheads happy (although I bet a few were lurking and laughing along with me every morning), as a Browncoat I find I have the same old feeling I had when Firefly finished it's run.

So I finally did it. I'd been toying with the idea of a fic for a while and Itsawash encouraged me on, so here she is guys. I lay her at your feet, to read, trample on, praise or spit upon. Shame there's not an emoticon for hopeful. Be gentle with me guys, I hope to make it into a long series, but we'll see where it goes.

Ok I had *the* worst night of my life last night, and my fiancee happens to be in this whole other country. So I email him, early hours of this morning when I eventually get home from work- an absolute wreck! and he sends me back 4 lines, telling me it'll be ok and to calm down and that I'd see him soon?!?!?!?!!!??!!! All I wanted was some support and maybe a 5 minute phone call just to say that he loves me and he misses me. :fork: :blast: :bash: :knife: :pissed: Ok I feel a bit better now, I just wanted a hug, and he wasn't here to give it to me, I was so scared and I just wanted him to comfort me. But he didn't and I s'pose I shouldn't be so demanding, I was just frustrated. Sorry to anyone who reads this.

I'm getting annoyed, which is never good. Annoyance turns to irritation, and irritation leads to nuclear explosions which we all know are never healthy for anybody - neither one doing the exploding, nor the people the explosion takes place around. (And besides, in the words of the philosopher Jayne Cobb, 'I don't wanna explode!') The annoyance is coming from those so-called "Browncoats" who, well... pretty much are writing the 'Verse dead. They take statements out of context (much like the press like to do) and just run with them as confirmation. When you correct their appreciation with facts, like I have the horrible tendency to do, then they don't reply, and look for something else that "supports their point of view," when in reality, if you read it, that something is saying exactly what you told them. Case in point: some fan who "promoted" Serenity (because more than promoting it, he/she was guilt-tripping us when it failed to meet unrealistic expectations at the box office) has now declared the franchise dead, because Joss said in an article in "Entertainment Weekly" that he had "closure with 'Serenity', I can now have it on a shelf at home and stop promoting it." The way I read it, it's "Serenity" that is done. Not the 'verse. Especially not after him telling us it wasn't at the Flanvention last Sunday. He did remark that it all depended on DVD sales. And DVD sales will be good, I'm fairly certain. Then why, I ask, being so negative about the future? I'm not saying, "Yes! Put on your blinders and desperately believe that the 'verse will continue." That would be, well, not smart. What I am saying, tho, is, "The DVD is coming out. Sales will be good. Have some faith. Don't count us out yet." Then go about your life, you know? Being positive towards something takes the same energy and the same amount of work as being negative. Only difference is, if you keep a positive attitude, good things happen to you. And wouldn't you agree, more stories in the Firefly 'verse *cough*with Wash*cough* would be a good thing? I'm just sayin'...

I couldn't resist, thanks to getting instructions on how to personalise google, there was this on my page - WELLINGTON (Reuters) - Forty drunken Santas rampaged through central Auckland, stealing from stores and assaulting security guards, the New Zealand Herald reported on Sunday, in a protest against the commercialisation of Christmas. Police said some of the Santas threw beer bottles, one tried to climb the mooring rope of a cruise ship and a security guard was punched during the fracas. "They came in, said 'Merry Christmas' and then helped themselves," convenience store staff member Changa Manakynda told the Herald, which reported the Santas also attacked a Christmas tree. The event organiser, Alex Dyer, had warned the antics would only stop when someone was arrested, said the Herald, which linked the incident to "Santarchy". Santarchy www.santarchy.com and online encyclopaedia wikipedia www.wikipedia.org record protests going back around 10 years in the United States, with participants marking Christmas in anti-commercial manner involving street theatre, pranks and public drunkenness. Police said identification was a key issue as they tried to sort out which of the 40 men and women had done what. "With a number of people dressed in the same outfit, it was difficult for any witnesses to confirm the identity of who was doing what," Senior Sergeant Matt Rogers told Reuters. Can you imagine the police line ups? ROFLMAO!

I want all the characters to some specific things, so it's a little slow in coming. Also, I want this next chapter to be a little longer. So if you guys will just be patient with me I promise good drama.

I am extremely humbled and grateful for all the comments on my first ever fic! I was so trepidatious about posting, seeing as how I had never done it before, but...wow. A girl could live off of comments like that for decades. As long as you guys keep likin' I'll keep writin'. PS. I can only imagine how Joss must feel, knowing that there are sooo many people out there that REALLY respect his work...mind boggling...anywho I'm rambling. Thank you!
Monday, 19 December 2005 15:19:28
Why doesn't someone issue challenge fics? Do we do that? Because I haven't seen any. Anyway it's just a thought, I have an idea for a challenge fic, if there were enough people interested in taking up the forementioned challenge. Anyone interested??

Sorry fanfic writers, I am going to be blunt here. First of all, why is everyone so eager for sex in fanfics? If you want written sex go and buy some gorram soft porn literature. I want to use my imagination once in a while and describing orgasms ("after the burst they fell back to the bed") is getting very old. If you really want to write sex, add a twist or two. Something to imagine. Like the fanfic featuring Simon and Kaylee doing it in zero gravity (I actually liked that one). My second point: Off canon fanfic is a matter of taste, and I don't like it. Why introducing completely unknown characters at all? We already have a core group of nine (or seven after the BDM) well defined characters. These are the ones I want to read about, not some strange twins of Kaylee and Simon or another companion I never heard of before. I have no problem with fanfics completely based on other characters though (like the recent "Grey" ones). I just don't want to see a mix of BDHs and "strangers". I know that many people out there might be upset right now, so please feel free to comment :-) I'm looking forward to your opinion. Chris EDIT: Alright, since there has been a major missunderstanding: I do like good fanfic. It's just those two aspects above I am wondering about :-)

Got my Serenity DVD in my hot little hands... even got of work half a day early!! Hee!
Tuesday, 20 December 2005 19:35:20
...with a firey passion! I got up super early this morning, went to Target and bought my copy of the BDM. I've spent the last few hours watching it, along with all the extras. I'm so full of browncoat love right now  . I'm waiting to watch the actual movie again until my friends get here, and I haven't wacthed it with the commentary yet, but man do I love the outtakes. So much shiny happiness! Hurray!
Tuesday, 20 December 2005 23:27:50
Some of those deleted scenes... I truely wish they had been in the final cut... I haven't listened to the commentary on them yet, so I'm sure I'll hear all kinds of reasons why they were cut, but... all the best Mal/Inara bits! It's funny, because all most every single (minor) complaint I had about Serenity, is solved by those deleted scenes... hehe... Well, guess I'll go watch em all with the commentary now...
Tuesday, 20 December 2005 23:42:49
So, I got the Serenity DVD today. My mom bought it for me, isn't that sweet...I love her, favorite mom ever, I swear to God. I *::liver sign:: my mom! Just this one tiny, itty, bitty, nano, miniscular little glitch. Smaller then the latest iPod, we're liquidating, buy now. She bought fullscreen. My dear, wonderful mother believes fullscreen is superior to widescreen. Of course, I told her of the error of her ways, how Firefly was filmed in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen, and how buying fullscreen would kill that. A lot. So she's out, buying the widescreen, and now she knows. She knows. Because I told her. Gods, I'm such a giving gal. * The liver, heart, and stomach where all once in contest for being the seat of human emotions. The heart was established as the seat of human emotions by the Egyptians. Imagine if that hadn't been so. I ::liver sign/stomach sign:: my Pekingese!

I got my movie! I got my movie i am so Happy cause I got my movie!!!! I think I might be converting my dad because this is the first time ever he want's to see a movie for the second time...usually it is one of his rules to see a movie one time and one time only but when I brought my movie home he saw it and said that he actually wanted to see it again...and for my dad that is a BIG deal. Plus my mom did not even want to see it but when she heard my dad liked it enough to see it again she decieded to watch it. there might be hope for them after all!! I am soooo happy about my newly aquired BDM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.... also just wondering any one else think that the picture on the front doesn't even look like her? it looks like it was drawn for one thing and her hair is sooo not that curly it is more straggly, really. I just though that the picture really did not do her justice

Well, I just handed in the last assignment and my take home final (which wasn't all that fun). So, I can sit back and relax for... tonight. One of my profs. decided to be "kind" to us students and set the final after the break. That way we'll all have more time to study... over x-mas break. Jackass. Well, I sure to plan to make the most of this night. So, off to program I go. Weeeeee!
Wednesday, 21 December 2005 00:48:26
My parents should really learn to be more discreet.. Late last week I called my parents to get some info, etc. And my Mom asked me if there was anything in the under $30 or so, that my sister could get me for x-mas. So, I tell her about a few DVD's I wanted which included Serenity (of course ). But, I also said that if they wanted to get it, they should pre-order it if they could as it's released on the 20th (as we all know). They said that she wanted a longer list and I told her that I'd find my DVD want list and get back to them. We tried to call a couple times, but never an answer. So, yesterday my Dad calls me to tell me about some family stuff and I asked him if they still wanted the list. I hear him call to my Mom and ask if she still wanted the list or was that thing they have to pick up tommorow (today) it. He came back and said, nope, it's all taken care of. Well duh! Gee, I wonder what I'll be getting for x-mas from my sister. Well, at least I'm getting something I actually want this time

So for anyone reading my fic, Pretty Fits, I am doubting some plot choices and I need someone to bounce ideas off of. Don't think I can keep writing until this particular issue is quelled. Help! So if'n your willing and are okay to be spoiled in my fic, I'd love your help. Thanks guys!
Wednesday, 21 December 2005 04:00:51
When I was watching the out-takes today, it came to the part when Nathan starts dancing outside of the rescue ship on Miranda. Then he grabs Morena and dances with her... ...but the sound goes completely away after like 3 seconds of starting. Does it only do that on mine? or everyone else's too? And why?!
Wednesday, 21 December 2005 06:03:04
So now I offically owe my firstborn child to leighkohl1! I was low...I had the how am I going to make this fic work blues...and I'm here to tell you ladies and gents...she pulled me out. I now have one really Kick Ass story lined up...and she deserves major props for helping me. So there you have it. A legal claim to my first born...now I just gotta get a man....
Wednesday, 21 December 2005 10:05:26
Well, it's Christmas time again... (I've only written a couple blogs since last Christmas...) As anyone who's spent five minutes with me in the chat will know, my main net access is throught the college. And the college is closing today. In about an hour. I'll be back on the first day of the new term, which is Thursday the 5th of January. So, 'til then, have a Merry Christmas and a Shiny New Year - or for those of you who don't celebrate Christmas, the closest cultural equivalent.
Wednesday, 21 December 2005 17:09:40
So I'm one of those *discovered FF in Oct when the movie opened* people. I rented the series and watched it all in three days, then saw the BDM 3 times in just over a week (before it closed at the local theaters :pissed:) and then bought the FF DVD, watched it a million times, etc... My point is, the movie experience feels long ago and kinda blurry. I knew I liked it, but... I watched Serenity last night, and it was SO good! Just sooooo good. Thanks a million times over Joss and company! I feel all re-energized to convert! I got two DVDs, one is on loan already! ya, and I have faith. We'll be seeing more of the 'verse. me v  ^ Joss
Wednesday, 21 December 2005 17:34:07
OK Guys, The DVD is out and who thought it could not get any better. Not me! It was as awesome the second time around as it was the first. Then the extras were in fact extras. Joss's little commentary gave me very good insight into who he is and how passionate he is about this series turned movie. I for one would love to see Firefly/Serenity return to tv. Maybe the scifi channel will pick it up. My only wish is to be able to attend a convention or something to me the man who could not let this awesome show go. If i were him I would have fought just as hard. It all goes back to what I always say about excu-tight they would not know something awesome if it were between their legs. Excuse the not so polite speech but I think everyone who let this show be cancelled is not completely there anyway. But to go another way if it were not for their idiotic views we may not have been handed such an awesome movie. Joss I am behind you all the way. I may not have much, but I will give what I can as way of support or whatever is needed to see that we get to see more of this awesome show. On a more personal note: Joss you are very creative in bringing people back and I hope you can work some of the creativity to bring back Wash. If not, then we will miss him and I hope we have some one to replace him that is just a charima as Wash does or did. To end Joss you have had me spellbound since Buffy and I let you down when Firefly first came out here in South Carolina because it was competing against scifi friday, but I assure you that I will never falter again and will always have faith in anything you bring to the screen whether it be the small screen or the big screen. It just popped into my head, in the way of those fundamental questions we all need answers to, like if Superman and Batman were to fight, who would win?? So, If River and Buffy were to duke it out, who d'you think would win???

I was reading this article that Joss wrote for the T.V. Guide this morning. I thought it was pretty funny...also a little shout out to Firefly and Serenity. Never tried this before on this site, so if it doesn't work the link is below:

I consider myself a decent writer. I should be - spent four drunken years and all my daddy's money on book learnin', then conned people into paying me to do it for a living for the past 10 years. I also consider myself at least as witty as the next guy. Of course, working at a newspaper the "next guy" is usually a grizzled, jaded, soulless journalist, so... Bottom line: as a Firefly fic writer, I often fancy myself (why does that sound dirty?) capable of Whedon-style wit. Then I read actual Whedon wit. About the EW article - note the gossipy forum post style:
...all I'm saying is that Nathan has a turnipy odor. It's not his fault, he doesn't eat a lot of them but everyone else in the cast noticed it and tht's not really something I'm prepared to deal with any more. And Jewel said outright she wouldn't do scenes with him except stuff like the SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER funeral scene which was outside in a high SPOILER wind.
About the DVD release:
When I worked in a video store centuries ago, my favorite moment ever was seeing a young girl watching the monitor where we'd thrown up "Holy Grail" and pulling at her mom's sleeve laughing, saying "Look, mommy, they're using coconuts!" Ahh, the classics. ... (Serenity DVD) I hope that some day a small child will be tugging on a sleeve and saying "Look, Mommy, the intransigent moral rectitude of the antagonist's world view renders him humble to the point of arrogance!" Kids are so cute.
The capper was reading JustShiny's blog with the TV Guide article where Joss predicts the future of television:

Joss' intro to the pre-screening is a bonus feature and I thought it was really sweet. He's totally sincere and looks really touched that the movie/legacy has made it so far. When he used the line from the pilot ("We have done the impossible and that makes us mighty...") I almost started crying! I sooo would've loved to be at a pre-screening, but now I can see it anytime I want, so who am I to be complaining?

I can!I'm in a very shiny mood today, probably because I've been sleeping in these past few days, so my internal clock is off and it feels like 3 in the afternoon instead of 11:30 at night. Anywho, I just wanted to share my waves of love with my lovely browncoat family. You are all beautiful and wonderfull people, and I very much appreciate getting to communicate with you all through the boards and chats and whatnot. I'm mentally sending you all hugs and kiss  Stay shiny everyone, and Happy Whatever Holiday You Decide to Celibrate!

this is my first blog entry here, though i do have a blog somewhere else. i've been itching to post something here, so now's as good a time as any, i suppose. i'm new to this 'verse, new to firefly and everything, and i wish i something terribly insightful and amazing to say. but i don't, because it's late. everyone has been cool to me so far, so thanks for not mocking me or ignoring me or something to that effect. i just want to say that browncoats are the most phenomenal fans i have ever come into contact with. you guys are awesome! firefly has destroyed tv for me since i watched the entire series. i never knew that tv could be that good. the writing, the acting... now that i know, how can i just watch the random crap that's on? it's like when i read james joyce for the first time or when i read frank herbert's dune and then tried to read what i had been reading before. (i won't name authors, a lady never tells.) um, i've managed to convert another person, based solely on adam baldwin as jayne. i brought my series set to her place and we watched serenity pt.1. pointing to jayne, i said, "he's in all of it." and she said, "wow. he's hot. i love this show." so, that was easy. yeah, so that's it.

I wandered into a rather large Borders Book store yesterday, looking for some last minute ideas. I was greeted just inside the door with the 'New Releases' stand, which was prominently displaying 'SERENITY ' DVD's. I was glad to find it was put right there, for all to see. Then I checked out the TV on DVD section upstairs. Right on top of a table full of DVDs...FIREFLY. In both cases, I made it a point to go over and pick up each DVD and check it out. It's not that I rushed over and jumped up and down while holding the DVDs, but I did display a bit of interest (genuine) that could have caught the eye of a nearby shopper looking for that last minute gift.....Ok, I admit it...it's a long shot, but hey, what did it hurt ? Amazon still has SERENITY at No. 1 Daily Ranking Date Avg Ranking Highest Lowest 12.23.2005 1 1 1 12.22.2005 1 1 1 12.21.2005 1 1 1 12.20.2005 1 1 1 12.19.2005 2 1 2 12.18.2005 2 2 2 12.17.2005 3 2 4 12.16.2005 4 4 4 I did end up getting a small gift. There was 1 box set of The Simarillion on CD, which I picked up..for myself. ( heh heh )

I've had so much trouble with this part! Between grades and stress and parent conferences, etc., I really had thought my muse had dried up. But I *finally* got it, thank God. With any luck, the next part won't take me so gorram long.

Yes, It's finally up. I am trying to keep you guys guessing so if you have any theories, I'd love to hear them. Any feedback is gold. I have a specific place I want to go to with the characters, but I'd love to know what everyone thinks.

Well, tomorrow is both a Saturday and Christmas Eve. Mrs. Outlaw and I are headed over to my parents' around noon and so I won't have much of a chance to visit my favorite boards in the morning. Well wow, I got a phone call from my fiancee who's half-way around the world and it was so bitter-sweet. I miss him more than Arwen would have missed Aragorn when he went off on his quest. I cry more for him than I do when I watch the end of Serenity and see Zoe standing by herself. I was at my grandmother's when I got the phonecall ands it took all of my energy not to break down, instead when I hung up I locked myself in the bathroom for twenty minutes and bawled my eyes out, and when I got home there were messages on the phone from him, and he left me a message on my blog, I think he reads them, and now it's just started me off all over again. I didn't want to write all of this here, but I'm all alone right now and while I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me I miss him SO much and I just needed to write it If you read this Sweetheart I LOVE YOU SO MUCH I MISS YOU I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU Atalante Meles Lyaa my dearest love.

Merry Christmas, y'all! Mine's been very, very shiny. My hubby, the dear man who keeps lending out my FF DVDs, gave me nearly every Serenity thing you can get on Amazon.com. What a guy! My mom, the wonderful woman who gave me my FF DVDs two Christmases ago, gave me the one thing he missed AND a very nice hat that, while it's not quite as shiny as Jayne's, is quite fetching. And there is chocolate. Hubby has said, however, that he will NOT play the roll playing game with me. I guess the conversion has gone only so far. Hope y'all are well and having a shiny Christmas.

It's Christmas, YAY! I have the best mom ever, she got me seasons 3&4 of Buffy (and one of my best friends gave me season 5, I love her too ) and season 1 of Angel and Veronica Mars. Plus Greg the Bunny. Oh and I also got Serenity action figures! And a few Slayer related graphic novels...and the boots, did I mention the two pairs of extremly kick-ass boots? Oh and a shiny new skirt and jacket  And now I'm off to spend the rest of the day with my very large and wacky family at my grandma's! I hope everyone is having as good of a holiday as I am, Merry Christmas everyone!
Monday, 26 December 2005 01:19:23
The other day I had some time on my hands. I feel like I haven't been doing my part. I had already bought my Christmas presents by the time everyone was making big plans to buy out the Serenity DVD supply when it came out. Yes, I am sort of a control freak. I would have bought a copy for myself, but my birthday was yesterday. My famliy knows I'm a fan and it was an obvious gift to get. Shoot! So, to try and remedy my guilt--I definetly don't want to be considered one of those people who rides on the coat tails of others--I decided to encourage my friends, family and everyone on my emailing address list to check out this amazing 'verse. Here's the email that I sent: Just to warn you all, I’m a nerd, and this email comes out of probably the nerdiest part of me. I HAVE to say something though. A few months ago I saw a movie called Serenity. (Some of you, I know, have heard of this movie–probably from me.) I was on a double date. The guy who wasn’t my date was all gung-ho about going to this wacko movie that I had only heard about. All I knew going in was that it used to be a television show, somehow connected with the Sci-Fi channel, and that it was about outer space (thank you Entertainment Weekly). I was not excited about this movie. I would never describe myself as a science fiction fan–although I read books that would fall under that category. I’m not a fan of Star Trek, haven’t even seen an episode. I pretty much steer clear of sci-fi television and movies. I didn’t see Star Wars III until last week. Unfortunately, the tickets had already been bought and, besides that, I wasn’t about to refuse to see a movie that my date’s best friend had insisted on seeing. About two hours later, I walked out of the theater in a daze. What had I just seen?! Serenity was running through my head non-stop. I had no idea how to describe what the movie was. I had definitely been entertained. Who doesn’t like comedy, drama and hard core action all in one movie? I was confused, though. What were Captain Mal and his crew? How did they get to be where they were? What, what, what? There was more to the story that I had missed out on. When I got home, I of course checked in with my parents. I found my dad waiting up for me–as usual. He asked about the night and when I told him about the movie I had seen, his eyes lit up and he said “really?” If you know Peter, then you probably know the kind of “really”that I’m talking about. It was the “I’ve heard about that and I’m interested, tell me more” kind. Over the next half-hour I expressed to him my interested confusion. (How else do I describe it?) He said that he knew about the film because Entertainment Weekly, which I subscribe to, had written a bunch of articles about it. The avid reader that my dad is, he had read all of them. He sort of filled me in on the premise of the movie and then encouraged me to read the articles that I had only glanced at. That night before I went to bed, I dug out all of the articles and read them–all of them. The more I read, the more interested I became. I learned that this movie had started out as a television show on Fox. In 2002, eleven episodes of Firefly aired before it was cancelled. (I blame the cancellation on a bad time slot, and sports.) The show, created by Joss Whedon (a.k.a. Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and Toy Story), generated almost no viewers because of the stupid, fragmented way that the network aired the show. (Think World Series baseball and football.) Those few viewers, however, had grown. Those few viewers who call themselves Browncoats had made a fuss about their show, converting others, turning Firefly into what can today be called a cult hit. This fuss also elicited a response out of Hollywood. Joss Whedon wrote the movie and Universal Studios green-lit it. Serenity was born. Okay, so there was a television show. And it was out on DVD. Humm... was it worth my time and money to invest in something like that? Duh, I’m me, of course it was, and besides, the curiosi

Well this should be fun! Do I really get my own webspace here? THat's cool, and people who like the same things I like will actually read this! That's exciting too. Sorry, very late on Christmas day, just joined the board, and I promise more useful posts here from now on.

My family is awesome! For Christmas they bought me the Firefly DVD set, the BDM, AND the Visual Companion! Of course, I'd only been telling them for two months that I wanted them all. So, I spent part of yesterday watching several episodes. I FINALLY got to see "War Stories." Somehow kept missing it on SciFi Channel. :banghead: One of my sisters-in-law was here visiting and I converted her! Yay! Another Browncoat! Don't know if she'll ever buy any of the DVD's, but you never know. She really liked our Captain! On the downside, I see that after the marathon on January 6, our show is no longer on the SciFi Channel schedule. :crap: Hope everyone had a happy holiday with lots of family, food, & fun!

It must be REALLY slow today ( Dec 26th ), because I have no other explanation for this post. Last night, while mindlessly channel surfing , I caught this clearly made for TV movie on Lifetime or some such, called Odd Girl Out It was some teeny bop drama ( redundant, I know ) about popularity and one girls struggle to 'fit in'. Ok, never mind the story, here's the kicker....I thought I was watching some early Lindsay Lohan movie. Seems all she did, afterThe Parent Trap and before Herbie was the same tired story over and over...new girl at school, naive to the laws of survival of the fittest , the importance of being popular, cliques, jealousy, backstabbing princesses, etc.. gets hurt, then comes back to show the world that she's prettier, smarter and a better human being than all the 'mean' girls put together. But this wasn't Lindsay Lohan. Despite that it looked like a young LL, it was actually the girl from Spy Kids- Alexa Vega. She had changed her hair color and was ,yep....a red head. The resemblence between Alexa and a younger LL is uncanny, at least imo. Why did I waste time on this? I have no idea.

All of us ( I already have)should go to Universal's website and post a thank you in their Corporate Vivendi/Universal contact page. I thanked them for risking capital and producing the movie and also for letting Joss Whedon have control instead of being micromanaged like he was at (3 letter curse word in my vocabulary). I also pointed out the sales of the DVD and stressed that this fanbase will only continue to grow exponentially now that others have had a chance to see the BDM on DVD. Within 2 years I believe the fanbase will be huge enough to support a sequel that will certainly be a box office hit. That being said, I think it's still important that we show our sincere appreciation to a studio that gave Joss the green light and stood behind him by 1) posting a thank you and 2) going to see any Universal films at the theater you think look interesting but would normally wait for the DVD to come out to watch. If Universal gets tons of email thanks then they'll probably view it as 20% of the people out there that feel the same but weren't so damn lazy they wouldn't type an email. That would only serve to make us look to them as bigger than we are in numbers probably. Either way, they deserve our thanks and not just by buying the DVD.

So I spent the past month obsessed with U2's "Elevation. Since my deadline has been pushed back to March, and I wasn't working this Xmas weekend, I decided to see if I could make a fan video using the song and screencaps provided by still-flying.net. The result can be seen here:

Hey all! Happy Holidays to everyone! Just thought I would pass along a funny tidbit that I don't recall being mentioned on any blog or message board topic (though my board presence is pretty much non-existant). The following is an excerpt from Zap2it's "TV Gal" column about the best quotes from TV in 2005. See if you can figure out why [;)]: "Everyone, I've got bad news. We've been cancelled. Unfortunately, there's no more room on the schedule. We've just got to accept the fact that FOX has to make room for terrific shows like 'Dark Angel,' 'Titus,' 'Undeclared,' 'Action,' 'That '80s Show,' 'Wonderfalls,' 'Fastlane,' 'Andy Richter Controls the Universe,' 'Skin,' 'Girl's Club,' 'Cracking Up,' 'The Pitts,' 'Firefly,' 'Get Real,' 'FreakyLinks,' 'Wanda at Large,' 'Costello,' 'The Lone Gunman,' 'A Minute with Stan Hooper,' 'Normal, Ohio,' 'Pasadena,' 'Harsh Realm,' 'Keen Eddie,' 'The Street,' 'American Embassy,' 'Cedric the Entertainer,' 'The Tick,' 'Luis' and 'Greg the Bunny.' But I supposed if all those shows go down the tubes, we might have a shot." - Peter when "Family Guy" returned to the FOX line up. One hopes that such a resurrection can be duplicated for our beloved BDHs and Lord Joss;) BEB

It's probably sacrilegious at this point, but believe it or not, fireflyers, I still haven't seen the Big Damn Movie. Yep, I can hear the loud and multifarious cries of 'OH MY GOD!' and 'How is that possible?' et al. even at this distance, so let me explain... I'm one of the people drawn into this fandom through the original series, and because of where I live geographically (the words 'middle of nowhere' come to mind), and taking into account the fact that I work odd hours and don't drive, the nearest theatre for me is a five hour bus trip away. And that's only one way. I simply didn't have a chance to make the journey during the scant two month run the movie had here in Tasmania. I've read the novelisation, and today I finally pre-ordered my copy of the DVD. As I'm in Australia, that would be the Australian version with all the cool extras. YAY! Can't wait for February.

Eleven days and a wake up. Hard to not get the jitters at counting minutes. Home soon... Finished the second section of the story and posted it this morning. Hope to file about five more before I fly out of here. It will set the framework for the main story idea. nite-nite, Gracy

i hate the holidays, for reasons that i hate to go into, lest i sound like i'm trolling for attention. but here's this, for those of you who like this time of year: happy hannukah merry christmas happy new year this year has been better than the last, (which isn't hard), and the last half of the year has been especially good since i discovered firefly and watched the BDM. (though not necessarily in that order.) i found out that tv didn't have to suck, but fox actually sucks more than i thought it did. and i realized how f:censored:ing hot adam baldwin is. (i'm a slow on the uptake sometimes.) it's been a busy couple of months for me. well, happy everything.

I've been pretty busy, and my DVD from amazon still hasn't arrived, so today I went to Target and got a second copy (or is that first?) for $19.99. More expensive than at amazon or practically anywhere else, but hey I really wanted to see the movie again. Like others said, I really wished there were more special features, and commentaries from the cast as well. The outtakes were great, but I think the gag reel from Firefly was much better. Can't complain too much though, I'm sure there are funnier momeents even through an abbreviated season than for a movie. I recently bought the deluxe edition of Sin City (after buying the first release, yes I'm a DVD junkie---don't watch regular TV at all anymore, except Smallville) and I'm hoping Serenity DVD sales are strong enough to warrant a super-duper deluxe edition. I'll probably buy 2 again :) The movie is great to see again, but I think I still like Firefly better...

For Christmas I had gotten my brother and his wife the Firefly the series DVD. A few days before the holiday I took a copy of Serenity over to his house to watch and get a feel for if you would enjoy the verse. Between the kids and other distractions I left feeling that he didn’t get a chance to get a real appreciation of the BDM. Well I just received a phone call from me telling me he was about to watch the last episode. Over the last two and a half days he has watched the entire series! He told me he was hooked and couldn’t believe it was canceled. He asked about a sequel to the BDM and I told him our hopes rest on the DVD sales. With that he said he was going to go out and buy the Serenity DVD, (even though I left him a copy) in an effort to help the cause. It was really great to see him enjoy the Big Damn Heroes as much as I do!

Has anyone thought to advertise this series on MySpace?? I mean I searched the site and there were no pages devoted to firefly or serenity. Music groups and actors advertise themselves on that site so why not this? I mean it is a network of over 45 million people. I am sure we can get some more fans there, or even a lot of fans. So if there is anyone computer or design savy willing enough to take on the project, I think it would work. Just my suggestion. I already have gotten all my co-workers hooked.

Ohh man I just woke up, it's 4 in the afternoon here and I am dragging myself off to the doctor, I feel totally lowsy. And it's my anniversary, so that sucks That wasn't why I started this blog- I actually had a question- Do you think Mal would have been an Elvis fan? Because I do. If I see things I often think gee I have to show/tell a particular person (usually as real person ie someone I know) about that, and I was listening to an Elvis song and all of a sudden I thought "Gee Mal would love Elvis" What does everyone else think?

Our replacements are are the ground and today is the initial briefing for them. Or...as we like to call it, Death By Powerpoint. Last night I ran into a Sergeant I know who works over at the ASP. She calls me her MNSTC-I Ranger (MNSTC-I is the Advisor group...except for us assigned to the real job of Advisors (training and fighting with the Iraqis) it is mostly reserve and national guard soldiers doing administration work- so me...being Tabbed a couple of times...with Master-blaster,pathfinder, CIBs...etc...and a scroll on my right arm...I kind of stand out in that crowd). Anyway, she came up to me and threw her arms around me and hugged me tight. "I wish you were not going." Well, shit. Yes, I am nice to her and all that AND I've been away from home for a year, but having a girl do that is pretty cool for an old guy like me. Of course nothing is gonna happen because 1: I love my wife and that is that. 2: pretty much covered it in one. ten days and a wake up...

Okay, it's official. I'm addicted to the awesome-yet-canceled show, 'Firefly'. Dang it!!! Do you know how I feel about this? How would you feel if you watched the trilogy Lord of the Rings 1 and 2, and found out that those in charge decided NOT to make the 3rd movie? And there were no books to tell you how it all ended? Better yet, what if you were watching the 23rd episode of 24 and THEY NEVER MADE EPISODE 24?!!! You guys gotta watch 'Firefly', then the movie 'Serenity' and then become so utterly addicted that you write emails to the world asking whomever to restart the show. It's a character-driven story, as focused as Batman Begins; as broad a universe as Star Wars, with the character depth of Lord of the Rings (the movies) and braveheart combined. I've seen a lot of movies, ranked in various order, but this show is on top. The feeling you get at the end of an episode isn't like you're watching a show, but rather the end of a really, really, good book. You close it and then want to open it again.

I think that FireFly has a real chance of coming back on the SciFi network. If enough fans get involved I think SciFi will love to put this amazing show on thier network. They already have the reruns why not give the fans new ones.If the show or movie needs an extra (or a main charicter) I would work for real cheap.

I don't know if you guys can tell, but I'm gettting increasingly more excited with every chapter I write...it's like I'm totally going along with the characters and building into the climax with them (no it's not an nc 17) but I'm loving it! That's just the ramblings of a first time fic writer. But do any of you other fic writers feel the same?

Because my brain was going to explode if I didn't do this, and in the words of the mercenary philosopher Jayne Cobb "I don't want to explode," I put off finishing a movie to concentrate on this Inara/Mal video, set to U2's "Mysterious Ways". Again, Quicktime required. You can see it here:

German episode titles are never just plain translations, there is a long tradition of giving them completely new (sometimes awfully wrong) names. What happens if you take the German Firefly episode names and translate them back to english? Format: english -> German title (translated back to english) 1. Serenity (not translated) 2. The Train Job -> dark deeds Seems okay. As usual there was no real need for change at all. 3. Bushwacked -> far from civilization This one of the bad examples of German episode titles. This is such an overused phrase and plain hollow. You could use this title vor every single episode of every sci-fi show ever made. 4. Shindig -> The Duell This is something they often do - they just spoil something within the title. I understand that "Shindig" couldn't be translated literally, but calling it "The Duell" right from the start kills a lot of the fun 5. Safe -> In the nick of time Speaking of spoilers... this is just ridiculous. They tell you the ending of the episode right there in the German episode title! What are these guys smoking? 6. Our Mr. Reynolds -> Mr. Reynolds They cut out the "our" and with it the ironic undertone of the title. Again without a reason. 7. Jaynestown (not translated) Hooray, they did something right by doing nothing at all  8. Out Of Gas -> The fight for survival The German title is once again boring, overused, generic and spoiling. Why are they doing this? I have no idea. 9. Ariel -> False play This is another fine example of this bad German tradition. Again - there was absolutely no reason to change the title at all. Especially not to this misleading semi-spoiler. 10. War Stories -> In the hands of shanyou Typical German title: plain wrong in every aspect. It spoils, it is generic and it is misleading. 11. Trash -> Antique robbery While the original title is funny, clever and equivocal, the German version is just a discription of the events to occur. It gives you the wrong impression right from the start. 12. The Message -> The Message Yes, they really just translated it this time. I have no idea why. But I am happy with it, you bet your bottom dollar! 13. Heart Of Gold -> Ladies of easy virtue The original title gives the girls a positive image, while the German titel implies the exact opposite. Besides it's one-dimensional, boring and so on. 14. Objects in Space -> The Bounty hunter What a wrong title! What a misleading spoiler! All the poetry of the original title completeley destroyed. The German "namegivers" (I don't know what they are really called) should have a talk with Joss Whedon someday about this mess. As you can see, the German titles are often really bad. Again: they do this with every foreign tv show. Comments highly appreciated - fire at will  Chris

Haven't watched the dvd proper yet, but I did poke around and check out some of the extras. Neat stuff! And yes, I found the easter egg -- all by myself! Tricky placement, it was.

You know you're obsessed when you're 7 year old son can sing every word of the Firefly theme song. (And he doesn't even get to watch all the episodes!) You know you're obsessed when after years of reading fan fiction you actually write some. You know you're obsessed when you miss the corner you were supposed to turn at...because you're thinking of something to write. You know you're obsessed when you leave the surf club Christmas party early so you can go home and write more of your story (I had been there for 5 hours, surely that's long enough) You know you're obsessed when you write something like this...and hope that similarly obsessed people will read and understand!

Hey all I'm killing time before my brother and me head to Moose Jaw for a family thing, and I was thinking about something. I've read a lot of posts about Joss Whedon being The Master and that BUFFY/ANGEL/FIREFLY are the greatest shows ever produced and how anything out there that DOESN'T have Whedon's or any of his associates names attached to it is just garbage and not worth mentioning and that tv was only good when Joss had a show on. It's this narrow mindedness that I find on the Internet that is the only thing that I don't like about these fan sites. Now, the community here is very warm and friendly and open minded and all that. But on occassion, I do see a "Whedon rules, everyone else sucks" post here that discourages me. And it discourages me, because there is so much good out there that people just walk past because of one prejudice or another. In my 20 years on this planet, I have probably seen far more movies and tv than anyone I know. Some people consider me a walking encyclopedia of film and tv. And I know that there is far more out there for me to savor and discover. I know that on a film geek level, I am nowhere near say Quentin Tarantino or Martin Scorsese. But the joy in being a film geek is that I'm always discovering something new. Something richer and grander out there to make up for the mediocrity that's out there. And I practice what I preach. Sometimes I go to something that I normally would not have an interest in and watch it so that I can discover its appeal or get a better understanding as to why people think this stuff is great. Two examples. Last night, I went to see PRIDE AND PREJUDICE at the Rainbow. Normally these Victorian era/Jane Austen/European costume films bore me to tears (AMADEUS was the only one I can stand because it's probably the best film ever made about the artisitc struggle), but I heard good stuff about it and how it's a sleeper hit, and so I watched it. And it still bored me to tears. But I gave it a shot. The same could be said for Ingmar Bergman. Outside of THE SEVENTH SEAL, I fucking hate the guy. And he's supposed to be one of the best filmmaker's EVER. But when I saw that SARABAND, the first film he's made in like 20 years, was being shown at the RPL, I went to it to see if maybe if he did something recent, I'd like it more. And while it didn't completely alienate me, it still wasn't my thing. Maybe if I'm older I would have dug it more. Getting back on topic, Joss Whedon is a great writer with a fantastic imagination, no doubt about it. But I would rather watch an ep of SIX FEET UNDER to see a better depiction of the impact of death than "The Body" for the xth time. I'd rather listen to the dialogue that Kevin Smith has between his characters than with Joss's characters. On a visual scale, there are numerous filmmakers who have a better eye for composing images than Whedon. And for touching moments between human beings, indie cinema is the way to go, I feel. This is not meant to be inflammatory. I'm just saying that there's an infinite verse of amazing films and tv shows out there, and that it's worth discovering, even if Whedon's name isn't attached to it. The way I see it, the movies and the tv shows that come out every year is like a pile of gravel. The majority of it is just pebbles and dirt. Sometimes you think you've found gold, but it's actually iron pyrite. But if you look close enough and realy get your hands and arms dirty, you can find the hidden gems in that gravel pile.

So. 2005. Nearly done. And yet... there's still two days left. You'd be amazed at what can happen in two days. I look back at this year and... well, to quote from The Producers; "We picked the wrong script, the wrong director, the wrong cast... where did we go right?" Basically this year has wound up being this bizarre sequence of events where the world seems to be putting its arm around my shoulders and going "You know best". Of course, the only sore point is Serenity's disappointment at the box office. That wobbled me a bit. But pretty much everything else... So I go into the new year, for the first time in a long while filled not with hope or expectation but a desire for things to carry on as before. As a relentless optimist, it can be pretty disconcerting when suddenly every cloud does have a silver lining, the sun does come out tomorrow and this particular dog has his day. 2006 - you've got a hard act to follow.

*Spoiler Warning* Today while watching Serenity...again...I started wandering why Joss had to kill off Wash. I was trying to think of another crew member he could have killed off instead of Wash and I realized that there isn't one. Although Wash is one of my favorite characters I still couldn't think of anyone that I would prefer to meet there demise. You now that you have something good when all the characters are loved. In all the other shows and movies I have watched there has been that one character who just gets on your nerves.

Well, today I watched the BDM for the 15th time. And I suddenly realised halfway through that maybe now I was just watching it, and not really seeing it. And then I re-lived it, like it was the first time I saw it. And it was great! And I've decided I might start doing small short review-y blogs on certain small scenes every now and then, as I watch, and re-watch, and re-watch Serenity again and again. And I think I'll start with, the beginning! Sounds like a good place. I love it so much. It's so engaging. It spins the viewer around a lot, and you really have to pay close attention on first viewing, especially if you're new to the verse. I mean, at first you're just looking at the Universal logo. And its probably familiar to most people. Its on the front of many films. You've probably seen it a lot before. And then all of a sudden, whoa...it's not just a logo, it's part of the film. You're looking at the earth, and then you're thrown into the story. And you're hearing some sort of future-history, and then, cut, you're in...what is this? A classroom? And this teacher is talking, and then there's this little girl, and then she pokes her in the head and you realise it was just a memory, within a dream. And you're in a lab now. And what are they doing to this girl? Who is that slick attractive guy with the baton?? Whats he going to do? And then whoa...he's undercover. Wait, he's, her brother? Hey, is she on the ceiling?!? Then. "Stop." "Backtrack." Oh, it's a hologram! It's just soo genius. So chippy-choppy. So much information conveyed visually and orally and in such an interesting way. It's so engaging.

so, 12 months on, i'm older (physically, if not maturity-wise), wiser (but not much)and tweaked-er. in the past year, i have: + discovered firefly (and therefore begun to live) + driven a car (six feet, but hey, who's counting?) + gotten stoned (i know, i know :stupid: very bad idea...) + learned that if i get taken by the government and have my brain played with, i will be rescued by my as-yet-undiscovered *swai* older doctor brother and wake up in a little metal box, very naked, with a mean old man looking down at me going "huh?" + learned how to swear in chinese :smokin: + figured out how to get a hotmail account and use msn + started writing a fanfic + figured out why i don't trust the minster across the road (he ain't no preacher...) + learned how to say ain't + BECAME A SCI-FI GEEK!!!!! now i'm away to disappear off to kizziecstars' bunk and be cut off from the internet 'cause her stupit laptop ain't workin'!!!! :pissed: love and crumpets for the new year b

Well i came in here to ask you guys something but I forgot, Oh right....SO Why doesnt River Ever speak in Our Mrs.Reynolds. And in Safe How do the hill people know that Simon is a Dr.? Answers would be greatly appretiated.
Friday, 30 December 2005 04:06:20
Well, as of now, I'm in the middle of chapter six Have Wings, Will Fly, and am more than halfway done with my mini crewmembers. I'm in love with my Wash right now. His expression is perfect. Although, I also have a faceless Zoe and a headless Simon waiting to be baked, and they're creeping me out. For these guys I've had mostly a trial and error with color mixing. I have about 12 different browns. Gah! I think I'll post a group shot sometime this weekend, or tomorrow if I get lucky! I still need to finish Inara, Mal, and Jayne. *Sigh* So much patience is required for these, and though I want them to be cute, I have the attention span of a 3 year old. OK, enough clay talk. I'm a little stuck in my fic. I'm still adding in the funny, and so far chapter six has been flowing smoothly, and I'm proud of the 'emotional scenes', except for the Mal/Inara interactions...I need some inspiriation. Where do I want to take this with them? *sigh*...back to making Simon's head... ~Sara EDIT: Is it weird that my Top 25 most played songs on my iTunes are all (except for 6 others) Firefly/Serenity tracks? I'm so hooked.
Friday, 30 December 2005 04:37:44
Currently about 9 months into a year tour in Korea. The town I live in reminds me A LOT of Firefly, and I always enjoy chatting with my fellow browncoats when it comes to holiday time! Hope everyones year has been shiny so far.

So, I just submitted my first fanfic. I'm a fan of all the fic I read on this site, so I decided to try my hand at it. It's a little fluff piece, but I'm proud of it. I'm actually more than that. I'm totally geeked!! Perhaps there will be more, who knows?
Friday, 30 December 2005 08:47:43
Okay guys, if you'll just bear with me while I write up chapter 7. There's some storytellin I got to do and I gotta make sure it's all interwoven and layeree for you guys. Might be another few days, but hey you can always go read chapters one through six again..(Piffle said she caught things the second time around!) Maybe you can formulate your own theories and ideas about what you think I'm gonna do with 'em. For now...I'll just give you a tidbit of chapter 7...and by tidbit I mean the first itty bitty part. River swayed back and forth with her eyes closed as if she could hear music and said in a sing songy voice, "Full pockets and an empty heart. Too soon. It's too soon to know..." As River suddenly halted her movements and opened her eyes she saw a body silhoutted in the doorway. "And too late for you..."

Hope to post the next bit tomorrow (31 DEC) Thanks for the kind words, all those who have, that is. dutch

Hey everyone, Virtual Firefly Season 1 RULES!... If you follow the Firefly series, this would be episode 16. It's called The Big Stick. I know it's a bother to read one part and backtrack to the next, but if you want, Gwek is setting up a mailing list for the next episodes. Check out the comments to find his coordinates. It's much easier to read it in PDF form. Looks nicer too. Enjoy!!!

Hi, guys. just found this section-- kinda slow with this computer stuff. A shout out to everyone who's taken the time to comment on my artwork. I'm new to the verse only having come to it after seeing the movie.. I'm brand new to the site and I'm excited to get to know other people who think Serenity is the coolest thing ever just like me!! Well it's a slow day at the office and there is no real work to do so I decided to pop in the old firefly DVD and give it a whirl. I just finished watching Out of Gas from Disc 3 of the series. And just like all other episodes I havent seen I really enjoyed it. I had been wondering how all the of the crew had come together and how Mal had aquired the ship and it was nice to get some insight on the characters. My favorite part is when Wash is being interviewed to pilot the ship and he has his huge awesome moustache and then when Mal and Zoe have there little side conversation and Zoe expreses her great dislike for the possible new pilot, Priceless! Well that's it for now I'm gonna browse the site some more go to lunch then watch another episode!

The suspense just builds and builds to...you'll just have to read it! I'll admit it, my heart dropped at moments reading it for the first time. So, Enjoy!

I finally have it! I have been racking my brain, see people who know me here know of my Jayne obsession and I've been ponderin on this obsession, coz well he is actually as far removed from my type as you can get. But I have finally worked it out (this is after watching Jaynestown and Our Mrs Reynolds and a few other choice Jayne moments) and I got it. Reason 1: Guns. Actually weapons in general, I love them and the man has more than a couple, if he can take such amazing care of Vera imagine if he turned that attention on someone he was sweet on. Reason 2: Hands. His hands are strong and almost rough, makes him look like he's done more than his fair share of hard labour- Hard worker could mean he's dedicated and I admire dedication. Reason 3: He call's a spade a spade. Honesty, especially in it's most blunt form is a quality I prize. Reason 4: His jaw line. I didn't actually think to pay close attention to it until I saw a close-up picture of him and it's so sharp it could cut butter. As a final note of interest, he shares all of these fine qualities with my fiancee, who unfortuantely isn't around atm, which is probably why I'm thinkin on this now. Hope everyone has a shiny new year!
Saturday, 31 December 2005 20:04:11
It's new year's eve, folks. Here in Iraq it's just another day, only special because it's one more day closer to coming home. Here on the edge of our world, our western world, our US American world, we are thankful for many things. Hot water. Hot food. A warm place to sleep. Coffee in the morning. Brothers you've shared a year of your life with. Shit that no one else will ever understand. All those important things back in the world don't mean too much out here. When you don't have much, a little bit seems like a pretty good deal. So my resolutions are this: Take the world a whole lot less seriously. Be a better husband and father. Be a better person to those people around me. Thank God every morning that I am still here. You all have a great New Year's eve. dutch, out.
