My First Concussion!
Thursday, 01 March 2007 00:16:00

Yup, I went skiing again this weekend, I took a spill in my Mono-ski, pivoted on my noggin, and became concussed! As a result, there was some short-term memory loss, and one bitchin' headache! Actually(as I would recall later), the ski fish-tailed, spun me backwards, then I fell over and pivoted on my head. But hey, I'm doing it again next year! (The Mono-ski, NOT the concussion!)

I'm drunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnk!

Hi guys, just got in from a night on the Toon (that's Newcastle, the best night out in the UK, for all you yanks) and I'm a lil bit sloshed. Anyhoo, what's in store? More of Cup of Tea, which is pretty much finished and in five parts. I'm still debating whether to have the fifth part in two short chapters or one big long denoument. I should not be blogging AT ALL in my state. Tabboo and Vodka is not a good mix. Dancing to S club 7 and Steps till 1 am IS! Oh Ima gonna regret this in the morning Good job no one reads these things Love to all Stay shiny Keep tje Silee fluff coming, my life now depends on it (and, apparently, alcohol) loves xxxxxxxxxxxx Charlotte xxxxxxxxxxx P.S My eyes are hurting p.s. I should swallow my pride and wear my glasses when I go out p.p.s I have the song 'the customers always right' from Sooty the bear in my head. THat's weird.... ppps Apparently, Tesco Value vodka is cheap, but leathal. pppps why aren't I asleep?

That was It.
Thursday, 01 March 2007 02:09:18

sigh... Since I've gotten the DVD set I have wanted to do this. I sat down and watched all the episodes over a couple a nights, from start to finish, now they are all done. Then the realisation: That was It. I have seen all the episodes before when they aired in Australia & a friend had the DVDs before I got my own (they are also now being re-run on Fox8). But the thought never really struck me before. There is no more. They are all great (some I like more than others, but who doesn't have favourites?) and we will never see their likes again. A new series is a nice idea, but frought with problems :banghead: Unless a miracle occurs, at best there will be a resurrection of the 'verse with different characters and stories, and that will be years away (if it ever occurs at all) and nearly take a miracle itself. Another movie is possible, though unlikely, (again in years), but without Book (who had so many stories left to tell) and Wash (not so much his own stories, but in making the stories as they unfold go from good to great) I am not sure it would be even comparable to the series (or the first movie). sigh...

Do Geordies feel the cold?
Thursday, 01 March 2007 16:24:32

Seriously, cos whenever I'm walking around in Newcastle dressed in as many layers as I can possibly get on to keep warm, the geordies are wearing as little as they can possibly get away with. Anyway, this week has been in the whole pretty boring. My friends Andrew and Al came over on Friday which is always fun and always seems to degenerate into us all laughing at Andrew for some reason. I was at Durham Cathedral on Saturday and I had the fruity oaty bar tune stuck in my head the entire time. Yesterday I went for lunch with john and his girlfriend Steph. We spent the entire time mocking him. Then I got my hair cut. I have my Russian Revolution seminar tomorrow and i've actually done all the prep work. Yay me since i had to look at really boring documents on the army. TTFN Jennifer -x-

3rd day out and about
Thursday, 01 March 2007 16:44:32

There is just so much to take in here. One can't help but wonder if you'll ever actually get through with it. Fascinating fact though that I haven't found actual flaming or some of the like yet. I host my own forum somewhere else so I know how likely this is to happen sooner or later. And yet I haven't been able to sniff anything out yet. I'll keep on looking anyway. *grins*

Worse and Worse
Friday, 02 March 2007 03:26:17

Mom Update. She’s a lot worse these past few days and seems to be going downhill rapidly. Mom’s very weak. She can’t walk or stand. She’s sleeping mostly and drops off without warning in the middle of a sentence (she did so on the phone with me the past 2 days). She’s managing to sip a little broth, but that’s about it. To give you an idea of how fast she’s going, two days ago my step dad and the hospice nurse were discussing the possibility of getting her a walker. Today, the nurse said there wasn’t any point. At this rate, I think she’s gonna be gone with in a few weeks and I’m not ready for it. She is, but I’m not and I’m selfish…I don’t want her to go. Period. Car, etc. Today’s been pretty much a suckfest since I got home. The apartment complex has gotten the idea (correctly and unfortunately) that my car, Spike, is not working as it’s had a flat tire and are threatening to have it towed. I fixed the tire when I got home, put in a new battery and washed the car (at 7pm at night) The car at least now has power, but still won’t actually start. *sigh* I’m just hoping it stays put for the moment. I still have nothing from the insurance company for the car that pifft two weeks ago. I called the agent today and nothing. I can’t find my printout from the dealership on just what needs to be fixed on Spike so I can call for estimates. I think I just going to go over there and lie and say I’m selling the car and need need another copy so I can disclose all pertinent info to any interested buyers. I’m also going to call my work investment rep tomorrow and get the ball rolling for a loan from my retirement account, even though I have no clue how much money I actually need, but I need to get it going now ‘cause those rentals ain’t cheap. To make life more fun, I’ve been having anxiety attacks, nervous eye twitches and my stomach is just rolling in acid, in spite of the Prilosec I’ve been taking faithfully, so I’m gonna have to sleep sitting up. Right now I should be in bed, but am too wired up about everything that I can’t relax to sleep. Add to that that I still have a sinus infection and can’t get to the doctor’s to get it taken care of. Can I have someone else’s life? I don’t like mine anymore.

And I'm back to hating my life!

I FINALLY get my the rest of my most annoying Document Processing course work turned in today. When I turn it in, the teacher is FINALLY there after having not shown up to check papers for the last two months, and she takes a look at my timed typing work, and says that I'd fail the exam I'm supposed to take to get the keyboarding portion of the new certificate I'm working on completed. This is after I spent the last two months typing until my fingers fell asleep. Which should have made me faster, but after two months of typing until as mentioned before, my fingers fall asleep, I'm actually SLOWER than I was typing two months ago! WHAT THE HELL?! I once again got into a shouting match with my mother, who actually thinks that all the crap I'm doing is worth it. As it turns out, the work I've been doing just makes me feel retarded! All for a STUPID Microsoft Certification, that will inevitably turn me into something I've been trying to avoid, a guy with a desk job, who types reports, memos, speadsheets, and other things that I REALLY don't want to do. Not that I have anything against people who do those things, it's just not for me. P.S. It took me about four minutes to type the bulk of this blog, "that seem right to you?"

Disney does Women's Hygiene?!!?
Friday, 02 March 2007 04:08:31

I just found out Disney did a 10 minute cartoon about menstruation in the 1940s. I kid you not. [image]

Distractions
Friday, 02 March 2007 06:58:45

Relationships issues I'd say. But then, there never really was a relationship in the first place. I'm trying to get past a fellow browncoat. For the time being I'm doing relativly good, seeing as all this is rather fresh. Can't say I like it much - the whole having to get past someone thing. Guess it just wouldn't work out. Still. My gut tells me there's something I haven't been told that. And that's something I can't stomach too well. But in the end only time will tell. Turns out though that this place is very good for distracting yourself. Good thing.

I'm still alive!!!
Friday, 02 March 2007 17:23:06

Hey folks! I don't know how many old fogies... er, old-timers are still around, but I thought I'd drop a quick note and let everyone know that I'm still flying - and that I miss you guys... ~Astriana~

Story
Saturday, 03 March 2007 03:01:56

Been real busy lately and I know some of you are waiting with baited breath to find out what happens in the next chapter of 'On The Edge'. It was never my intent to wait so long between postings, but my life is quite busy at the moment and I've not been able to get to the revisions suggested by one of my beta's. I don't want to delay posting this because I really dig the ending (you, dear reader, won't, I can assure you) and want to share it. So, look for the next chapter early next week! - I hope!

We now not only have net access again, it is no longer sucky dial-up! Yay for being able to download a long thread in under half an hour! Okay I'm exaggerating on that last bit, but not by much. Next week: Hot. Running. Water.

Just An Update XVI
Saturday, 03 March 2007 07:32:24

Hello again all. Life has been as rocky as the clifftops lately, and I won't explain why. I've been having all sorts of twists and turns. Anywho, I haven't done anything Ferenity related. *sigh* I want to write, but I don't have the time to think. I also want to draw some stuff too, but, again, no time. Maybe this weekend since I have duty and have to stay here? Hmm... Maybe. So how is everyone? I hope you're doing well! Leave me a reply if you wish! Be well

Browncoat with a brown coat
Saturday, 03 March 2007 11:05:23

Yes, my browncoat finally made it hear. It's not a real replica or anything - just a brown leather coat really. But! Gives me a good feeling. So it's all for the better. I plan on getting one that's suited a little better. Untill then I can safely say for myself that the 30€ weren't a waste of money. So - go me for having a coat!

Did you know...

I'm a Leaf on the Wind, watch how I... Face Plant
Saturday, 03 March 2007 18:26:07

Yeppers... I tripped over an empty frie container at school.... fell some four or so steps... and ended up with a goose egg, a left eye swollen closed, and a mei-mei with too many tears. This is gonna be a hit at school... I fought with gravity, and lost badly. I gots pictures, too!!! Maybe I could post 'em for a laugh... -Danny (Bruised, not broken!)

Stupid technology
Saturday, 03 March 2007 22:00:54

Ok. I can't post any of the pics I've drawn recently because my camera and my scanner are both screwed up. It sucks!! That camera has turned into the anti-energizer bunny. It just sucks the juice out of battereis and dies before you can take any decent pictures. I blame my brother the constant camera thief. Our scanner is actually fine but the computer won't admit that. All of our ports are dead. So not only is the scanner printer off limits, I can't access the external hard drive or my thumb drive. Stupid technology.

First FF Fanfic...moderate success?
Sunday, 04 March 2007 01:23:39

I finally conquered my formatting fears and "A Not-So-Shiny Christmas" made it's belated way into the Blue Sun Room. (Well, okay, I only got over most of my formatting fears. I abandoned the idea of going back to add the Chinese translations popping up when the cursor is placed over the words. Maybe next time!) I consider it a victory getting all three parts posted -- hopefully without too many typos remaining, although it seems like proofreading is a never ending process -- especially when switching formats. Readership dropped slightly from Part I to Part II, and again from Part II to Part III. I'm wondering if this is normal or just because my story didn't hold the readers' interest. (Or because it was well after Christmas when I finally posted! Timing may be everything after all.) I'll have to be more aware of looking at stats like this when I'm reading other fanfic which is posted in segments from now on. I did get some nice comments, especially from Amdobell, Katesfriend, and BlueEyedBrigadier(who has been encouraging from day one!)-- and they all seemed to like it. A mightly good thing, considering I do plan to continue writing new episodes of my beloved series. To those who wanted more (answers, action, whatever), I should mention that my aim is to keep the length and content of my stories to what would fit into a one-hour TV episode. This also means that the underlying big themes will move forward in tantilzing (I hope!) bits and pieces, while the episode's immediate action will follow a regular plot curve. I'm encouraged that the new character, Piera Melathene, worked well and BlueEyedBrigadier wanted to know more about her. She is connected to both Book and River (and therefore, Simon), so I plan on her popping up again. I'm also happy that readers are saying that my characterizations of the BDH are on target. I loved writing the dialog and trying to come up with some memorable lines. Jayne seems to be the easiest character for me to write. (A bit worrisome, that.) I'm comfortable with Book, Kaylee, Zoe, Wash, and River. Inara and Simon are a different story, (figuratively and eventually literally). They are the characters I have the most trouble connecting with, which is why I didn't have much on Simon in "Not-So-Shiny Christmas". Inara was out of the picture in this part of the timeline on Serenity, so I lucked out on that this time. Eventually, I have to deal though. Now, what to write next...WWJWD? That is now the question!

pariah
Sunday, 04 March 2007 05:01:39

well, no date. No email, no call, no nothing. good thing I am reluctant to give up sole control of the remote anyway. found out the asshole has paid NONE of his share of #2's surgery bill. Color me not even surprised. One of my favorite people in the world, a fellow fffer is not speaking to me. I had an icecream incident involving a (now) broken ice cream scoop, a half gallon box of ice cream and King Kaisa the Kat. He is not speaking to me either. But my mommy bought me a really pretty argylle sweater for $5.00 on clearance sale!

Black and White and Red All Over
Sunday, 04 March 2007 11:20:46

Well, nobody has tried to rip off my latest creation yet. I think I've actually out-weirded any attempt to match the workings of my psyche. Incidentally, this is me writing without the aid of caffeine. Now, the dilemma is whether to stick to a tight small arc or whether to really let rip. The direction this is going in could be limitless, but possibly more amusing for the writer than the reader. Maybe I should use the discipline of the seven chapter layout a la 'Zen', rather than do a 'Cold Comfort' and have a sagging middle plot. Especially since I have another plot-line or two stacking up behind. Of course, this doesn't then preclude the use of said weirdness in a later plot-line. I've come to the conclusion that I am better off following my own goofy star here - I'll leave other folks to the undiluted angst, horror and teenage dilemma. I'm going for something a bit more subtle. ('Cos Jaynefic is well subtle *coughyeahrightcough*) I mean, I can write torture or angst, but I prefer to weave them into a larger picture. And as some readers may know, I can write steamy scenes, but undiluted porn linked with thin characterization is just bad writing to me. So, anyone who does bother reading my stuff will find a nice mixture of humour, action, romance and danger. Of course, I may be moving in a couple of weeks. Which will necessitate being off-line for a while. It may be that I might not return. So I better get my shit together and finish this latest piece. It's not quite the cliff-hanger of some of my other offerings, but it's still a mighty fine dilemma I've left our boy in. Been reading a few threads about the how and why of fic writing, OC's and Mary-Sues, canon pairing and pet peeves. I've come to the conclusion that the reason my stuff is not rapturously received is because I don't toe the party line on 'accepted' Jayne pairings. Well, tough shit, guys. I happen to think that a lot of the stuff I have read is just thinly disguised MS-fic at best, and sad teen-diary wishfic at worst. (Puts claws away again.) Still, I'll play nice. Just there's no rayne gonna fall here, dig?

Sunday, bloody sunday
Sunday, 04 March 2007 12:40:40

After having thought that I'm over the main hump as far as that fellow browncoat is concerned I find myself in a very odd position: While I'm past all the pain and pseudo-suffering I feel as if there's something that hasn't been said. And as long as that's the case I know that sooner or later I'm prone to do something stupid - like fight for the whole relationship thing. I'm an odd nut like that. As long as I can't understand the reasons I get odd thoughts like that. For the time being all I can do is try and keep myself from doing anything. But that at best only buys some time. Maybe time is what's important though. In any case it's not a matter of choice anyway, so I'll inevitably see where this takes me. Either way. Just letting you know because I can. And otherwise enjoying everyone's company. *g*

Moving the troops forward...
Sunday, 04 March 2007 16:49:40

Mornin Fellow Browncoats :) Just a little log update here. Saturday evening I had a mini FF marathon at my house.Invited were my oldest sister and my middle sister ( I have 3 sisters and a younger brother. I'm the oldest of the 5) Anyhoo, my sisters came and although my older sister has seen FF/Serenity she jumped at the chance to see them again. My middle sister has never seen any FF/Serenity. My middle sister (J) said she had only an hour before she had to get back home. This was depressing but I slipped in disk 2 anyway. Let me tell you that I haven't seen "J" laugh like that in a long while. " I didn't know this was a comedy?" she said. She'd never even heard of the show (seems I've heard that before) She stayed for all 4 eps on that disk ( well over the hour she'd allowed herself) and she left with a smile on her face. My older sister enjoyed the show too. They said when I was ready to continue to disk 3 give them a call. Well with the busy lives that we lead it may be a little while. But it won't be long before I'll be warming up the 'ol dvd player for another round of FF. This time "J" wants to bring her hubby and "V" my older sister will bring her daughter and her daughters bf. Looks like I'll have to watch disk 2 again, but that's alright with me  Z

Tinidaddy? Trinimama? Tranny-mama?
Monday, 05 March 2007 02:38:58

I'm so busy... too busy to log anything, yet here I am. That is because I am also a Naughty procrastinator who may or may not be 1/16 leprechaun from the Cherokee tribe of France, in southern Africa on the tip of the moon. I can neither confirm nor deny my heritage... or that I've ever been to a Panamanian whore house. Someone from Trinidad, I assume would be considered a Trinidadian. However my spell check rejects this, I believe a man from Trinidad would be a Trinidaddy. (also rejected by spell check). Wold that make a woman from Trinidad a Trinimama, not to be confused with a Tranny-mama. Who for all intents and purposes is a Transvestite mother. (whether that is the mother of a transvestite or a transvestite that happens to be a mother, I will leave judgment to you astute fellows) Time to get back to work. I have to finish off this paperwork... What I'd like to do it is... :blast: but that would leave everyone :disappointed: in me so :crap: :knife:

7 days
Monday, 05 March 2007 09:49:45

Was a good show, way back then. It also is the amount of days I'm here now. Can't really say I regret having dug up this place. Also it turns out that mom, who had to go to hospital last week because of a heart condition, won't have to go through surgery and is in fact back home now. Her birthday is this weekend, so she's very relieved to be back home with the family. Naturally that will require me to get over a couple of miles in between us for the weekend. Hooray for railroad traffic. At some part during this week one of the latest technical gimmicks should be shipped my way. Should help lots with the seeing thing - seeing as I don't do much of that in my current state. Now, if only they would have told me when... *cough cough*

Extended List Project
Monday, 05 March 2007 19:10:01

Just like what happened with MySpace, last year, I started up a blogger site and never followed through with it. Well, kids, it's back. The Extended List Project is now online. And the first entry is up. The Top Ten Movie Cops.

Satilite Communication
Monday, 05 March 2007 23:34:20

I hate my jet. We have radios on my jet that send frequecies to a satilite then back to earth to one of our jets that we tune it to... Well, that's what it's supposed to do. Instead it just plain broke... It started this weekend, so people from my shop lost their weekend, and We had to work it today. It got so bad that we had to call in Civilian Contractors to help fix it. It was jsut bad. And to make things even better. We're going to be doing some type of special mission this upcoming weekend. I don't get a weekend. it doesn't bother me that much. I knew what was going to be expected from me when I signed the dotted line. I just like to complain every once and a while. It'll be fun I guess. I'm kinda like the comedic relief in my shop. They think I'm on crack sometimes. (I'm not, it's just my hyper-active personallity). I like making people smile. So when I can make the others at my base laugh, it's a good day. We did find something cool out that will make working our SATCOM problems a little more enjoyable. We figured out one of the frequencies we use picks up a mexican type TV channel. We can't interact with it unfortunatly but we can listen to it and laugh a whole lot. Well, I'm off to relax the rest of my day then go to bed. Have a good one everybody. -Steve-

Planet Nebutron
Tuesday, 06 March 2007 03:14:25

Hey all, I've been splitting my brain trying to work out where I've heard the name "Planet Nebutron" before. If anyone has any information regarding this elusive, so-called "planet", please let me know. (I'd offer cookies as a reward but I hear the cyberspace kind are alot less appetising...)

Big Dry, Hicks & Politics of Mud-slinging & Budgie-smugglers
Tuesday, 06 March 2007 04:04:49

Ho hum. Semester has started, atleast it seems like it will be bearable content. Summer is officially over, and we are heading into the dry season. Which ain't much fun considering we need rain. We haven't had a big wet across the country in ages. A number of places are in deep trouble, infrastructure is being put in all over the shop, but some places are going to cut it really close. Its tough balancing environmental needs and human needs (and also explaining to humans that their "needs" don't involve 20 minute showers and hosing their driveway to clean it, etc). News has been moderately interesting in Australia, David Hicks' (the Australian held in Guantanamo for past 5 years) US military lawyer has been threatened with legal action (something about military people publically saying bad things about the US president, state secretary, congress, et al being an offence under Article 88. I think it was meant to stop military coups, and applying it to this is a little absurd even if it is following the letter of the law). I'd be very suprised if he was charged, I mean it is ridiculous... of course I also think holding people without a fair trial is ridiculous so what do I know. Hicks seems like a moron, and possibly he may be a complete dick, but even complete dicks deserve due process. The federal politicians have been slinging (and dodging) mud. Amusing, but without much substance. I preferred the policy debate which up until last week that was actually happening for once (Can you imagine it? Politicians not only debating issues that are important to the people but also the whole thing being reported in the media. Remarkable.) The problem with slinging aforementioned mud, seems to be that it sticks. Not just on your intended target but also on yourself. And all you end up with is dirty hands. Entirely unseemly. Not nearly as unseemly as the politicians that have taken to wearing the ol' budgie-smugglers to press outings. WE DO NOT NEED (OR WANT) TO SEE THAT!!!! Speedoes are not good attire for our leaders (or aspiring leaders). I blame Bob Hawke for starting the trend, however it is now the Liberal (for non-Aussies that is the conservative party, ironic I know) politicians that are now getting on board with the DTs, State Opposition Leaders, Federal Ministers. It has Gone Too Far!! Enough is Enough!!! People of Australia stand up for the right to open the newspaper and not be overwhelmed with the desire to gouge out your own eyes!!!!! ok, i need to go have a drink now... bad memories... such bad memories...

I Can't Remember ANYTHING That Happened Last Night...
Tuesday, 06 March 2007 11:26:39

Seriously. I was that drunk. I was drinking the last of my vodka before we went out and then my flatmate came and gave me the end of a bottle of Rose her visiting friends had left... vodka and rose = not a good mix. I have no idea how much I drank when I went out because I can't remember ANYTHING. The worst pasrt is that we got a take away from this place that I love and was looking forward to. And I can't remember it! Which means it may as well not have happened. This upsets me greatly. I have a lecture in half an hour. At the moment I feel fine but this could all change. Ick. I'm never going out with Jenny (my flatmate) again. When I go out with my English friends, I make an arse of myself, but at least I can REMEMBER doing so. Oh and ANOTHER big I'M SORRY to Girlfan as I drunkenly messed up the formatting on her WONDERFUL fic Even Roses Have Thorns. Go read it, everyone. :'( Okay, historical linguistics, here we come. *facepalm*

When you're digging
Tuesday, 06 March 2007 12:22:47

It's really amazing who happens to be a browncoat. Now while I haven't known about the show until a short while ago I have known of the band Emerald Rose for quite some time now. Three years or some such - maybe even four. And then I stumble over them on "Done the Impossible". Really makes you wonder about the things you miss out on and you'll likely never notice. Life is like that I guess. Thus - more digging!

I've Reached The Middle
Tuesday, 06 March 2007 13:37:14

I've decided that at some point in life, there is a place where you reach the middle. I've realized that I've reached the middle. I have my two kids. I'm married and have 5 cats. I've bought a house, a car and have worked at the same job for almost 10 years. This is the middle. I just know it. So when people ask me what I've been up to.....Well I don't really have anything that interesting to tell them. It seems that winter this year has brought the blahs and the middle. Not that I'm complaining at the lack of excitement. I've just realized that I'm in the middle of my life. Sure things will pick up soon and there will be t-ball games and summer camps to take the kids to, but right now I'm just being me. So the middle isn't so bad. It just needs a pick me up now and then.

The things people say
Tuesday, 06 March 2007 18:57:25

I've been thinking of all the funny things myself and people I know have said and I thought I would list a few here. Me (about November Rain): No wonder it lasts 8 minutes it takes 10 to get started. John (about Morrissey): A whingeing little gayboy. Andrew C(on the phone): do i look like the sort of person who would drive a mini cooper? My dad (about the scissor sisters verion of comfortably numb): it's the bastard child of Pink Floyd and the Bee Gees. Andrew (In durham Cathedral): eeh, the wall's coming off. John: the evil foot glove Mam: that'd be sock then Andrew C: Jennifer, tell john to stop threatening me with a ladder. Me: John, stop threatening andrew with a ladder! John: It's rikki tikki tavi after years of copious drug abouse and now he's rikki tikki osbourne. John: Wizzard, the motorhead of glam rock. Andrew C: she's not an alcoholic mam: no, she just likes to drink a lot Andrew C: Curiosity killed the cat Me: no, curiosity made a gaydar profile. Andrew C: You can go to buggery and boil yourself Mam: you bloody well ball eyed buggery John: we're twins, we have a psychopathic link Andrew: Did the Titanic bend? NO! Me (to my cousin while playing cricket): you spent most of your innings out Me: I've been lapped! By Princess Toadstool! You Bastard! John: don't wear my words like a shawl of despair Me: Tom HAnks has the power to see balls. John: i can hardly buy drinks when the bartenders are grappling with a bald man in the bar. Bobby: Helen, are you a vegetarian? Helen: Yes Bobby: Bitch. Really, there are loads more to that effect. TTFN Jennifer -x-

Naysayers

If you're looking for information on my series, go below and look at MY 'VERSE. Otherwise, now read on ... I was PM'd a while back, asking if I thought my new character of Freya was a 'Mary Sue'. Not knowing the phrase (I'm English, although I'm not sure that's an excuse!) I did a little research, and have lately seen a fair amount of traffic on the threads about this too. And this is the result. Honestly, I don't think you can write a pleasant (as in not a villain) original character and not have some aspects of that character relate to being a 'Mary Sue'. If you look at great literature (and I am not suggesting, even in my wildest, alcohol-induced moments - if I drank - that I write great literature!) all the great female characters from Jane Eyre to Bridget Jones have aspects that the author either likes in themselves, or wishes they have. It goes just the same for the male characters, too. Does Freya have characteristics that I admire? Of course. Do I want to go through what I've put her through to get them? Hell, no! I've tried to write the canon characters as we've seen them, keeping to the actors' interpretations, their style of speaking, moving, the descriptions of their mannerisms, their clothes ... but beyond the BDM is all my own. And I'm proud of it. Is Freya a 'Mary Sue'? I don't know. And if she is, is that a bad thing? People have been commenting in the threads that they won't read fanfic if there is an OC, or what they consider to be an MS. Come on guys, you could be missing some great stuff out there! At least try it out! Okay ... that's my rant done. For the rest of you who do read, apparently enjoy and comment, thank you very much. I need it like Serenity needs Kaylee.

You know you've got no real life when...
Wednesday, 07 March 2007 11:14:22

... Your brother-in-law calls you up, all in tears on how miserable his life is (and, for a change, he's one of the people who can rightfully claim that) and you're thinking "boy, what would one of our most favorite characters now say or do to make him feel better?". It's even more creepy when you come up with a solution that actually works. I'm in an artistic mood. Maybe I'll sit down later and write a poem for him. Something to cheer him up. Unfortunatly I'm neither a music-creating type nor one that is any good with graphics, so words will have to do. Now I'm just waiting for inspiration to hit me. Once I got a title it'll be all fine. Also I think I'm in need of a banner for my signature. *ponders* Only I can't make up my mind yet on what I actually want. And I think I should know that before even thinking about asking one of my fellow browncoats to make me one (see above, the part where I suck in graphics *g*). Ah, and one last thing: Jordi got here! Most people won't know who or what that is. It's a what. But it doesn't have its name by chance: Think Geordy LaForge and then you've got a rough idea why I need it and what it's doing for me. If got till monday to try it out all the way. Shiny!

Why I Love Barnes and Noble
Wednesday, 07 March 2007 12:26:19

So my friend's birthday was a few days ago... my other friend and I decided to split Firefly for her and I said I'd buy it. The first Barnes and Noble we went to to find it had no DVDs (as it was a very small B&N), but the friendly helpful salesperson there said, "We don't have any DVDs here, but I'm curious. Which DVD are you looking for?" We told him Firefly and he flipped out! "Oh! I LOVE Firefly! It's such a good show...." etc. So we stopped at another B&N and Firefly wasn't there (I had memorized the spot in the DVD section where it usually is). So we asked a friendly helpful salesperson (who happened to look a bit like Ben Kingsley) where it was and he showed us the Featured DVDs shelf and said, "You know, I just finished watching Firefly. It's such a good show! It's a shame it got canceled." etc etc. My mother was in shock because she thought that no one liked Firefly. All I could say was "I told you so!!!" My friend ended up screaming when she opened her present. Very loudly.

British Comedy Brightens the Day
Wednesday, 07 March 2007 23:54:03

Monty Python was on TV the past week (Holy grail, meaning of life, the live performance, life of brian was probably aired too but I missed it). *Sigh* The brits have perfected the art of silly. I am glad it is being kept alive with the likes of Little britain. Shame there isn't more Yes Minister (cerebral) brit humour around. Black books has a brain, but no real social commentary (great to watch all the same). Dead ringers is hillarious (look up "Dead Ringers Bush" on youtube. Fan-bloody-tastic! I especially love the Bush & Blair joint press conference) And those that are yet to see "Red Dwarf" find it! Watch it! You'll LOVE it! I got out my red dwarf DVDs the other day after watching python on TV as I felt like more good british humour (although red dwarf is definitely a different style of brit humour to python). I think I may have to dust off The Goodies dvds too, havent seen it in a while. Brilliant, brilliant show... but do I watch Kung-Fu Kapers (Ecky Thump!), South Africa (A great take on the stupidity of racism and aparteid) or Scatty Safari (The Existence of Rolf Harris) hehe, "it was the beards they were after". Weekdays have their perks. Can't justify going out (have to go to work the next morning) but a couple of DVDs are entirely acceptable

Hi!
Thursday, 08 March 2007 06:09:55

Okay, so I haven't much to say except I just joined up and Hi! I only got on to firefly recently coz my brother bought me the series, assuming I'd like it. (Which I do!) And...stuff. Thats about it really. Yay Firefly!

The big Ouch
Thursday, 08 March 2007 10:55:40

Remember how I wrote that said fellow browncoat never gave a reason on why things didn't work out? Turns out she believes she did. Because yesterday she repeated what she had thought to have said before. And me? Yepp. Running right into the unconcealed blade there. When she left she later explained that it was because she wasn't too sure on whether she wanted a long distance relationship and that I reminded her of her ex too much. Last night however it out of a sudden was that chemistry between us just didn't work out. Now where did that come from out of a sudden? *blinks* Of course then it was my fault for out of a sudden being all complicated. *sighs* You can't avoid hurting people. Sometimes things you say are going to be picked up the wrong way and they feel hurt. That's not them being complicated, that's just life. *mumbles*

...Hello....
Thursday, 08 March 2007 14:09:33

I don't get on much but .....I'd like to talk to more people about firefly...Its kind of an obsession of mine that most people I know don't seem to understand.

Summertime and the livin is easy
Friday, 09 March 2007 03:37:58

I live in the south. South of south. In the southern most southness of the south of Alabama. So I want you, dear reader to understand that when I tell you this I most definately mean NOT THE NORTH. This is important for you see, in THE NORTH they have something called Winter. It comes in October and stays until it is kicked out in late April/May. Winter comes with its suitcase and settles in. It invites its good friends Ice Storm, Blizzard and Blinding cold. Sometimes they all visit at once. Now in the South or BumFcensoreddEgypt as we like to call it, Winter does not visit. We have sent cards, and letters. One time we even sent a cablegram. But no Winter. He flys by sometimes but never lands - and thus we have Summer all year long. Sometimes Summer is tired and lets Winter breath on us a bit, but then Summer gets some rest and returns full force. This means temps in the 70 during the day and 30 in the night. And this leads us to that lovely visitor PNUEMONIA, but that is for another day!

Fanvid! Please Watch.
Friday, 09 March 2007 18:30:50

If you read my last blog you know that all my USB ports are dead. This causes a problem as I can't scan hand drawn stuff or access all my pics and screen caps which are saved on an external hard drive. That said, I turned to another form of fan art this week. I made a fanvid. This is only the second one of these I've done and I'd really like some feedback from folk. Check it out here

Nothing here...

For Randy
Saturday, 10 March 2007 01:28:39

(posted on Myspace) Something was said to me today that got me thinking about the last 2 years, and I realized that I have moved on. The only thing left is mostly a sadness for him, because of what he has lost, and his inability to see it. Then in one of those "godlight" moments, this song came on the cdplayer and it kind of summed it up for me. If you are European, you may know it. To my US friends, its by a now defunk group called BUSTED (appropos name huh) anyway - For Randy Here we go Take a bow Because we're over now You were not There for me When I needed you and honestly I think I loved you more If that's possible I think I loved you more [Chorus:] It's over now and I can't save you Some things are better left unsaid And all the promises I made were so stupid Maybe we'll be able to be friends If that's possible Todays gone I'm alright But you can't sleep at night What is it you don't like Are I'm happy now I was playing with your head And I close the door I was cheating when I said I love you more, yeah [Chorus:] It's over now and I can't save you Some things are better left unsaid And all the promises I made were so stupid Maybe we'll be able to be friends If that's possible It's over now and I can't save you Some things are better left unsaid And all the promises I made were so stupid Maybe we'll be able to be friends If that's possible If that's possible If that's possible If that's possible

Another opportunity for John to humiliate himself
Saturday, 10 March 2007 17:57:02

Hi there, I got the date for my graduation. Wednesday 11th July. I also found out that King's Hall where the ceremony takes place will have steps. When I left Wellfield, we had a ceremony to present the records of achievement and my brother, John, told our friend Andrew not to fall off the stage. However, John fell off the stage. Hence five years of us teasing him and me laughing when I found out King's Hall has steps. This time instead of a school uniform he will be wearing a gown; which could add to the hilarity. I now have 1200 words of my dissertation written. Yay me. Only 6800 left to go. I was at the hospital yet again on Thursday. Still no real change with my ear, but it hurt like hell for the rest of the night. TTFN Jennifer -x-

aaahhh...
Sunday, 11 March 2007 16:01:50

HOT RUNNING WATER!!!!!!!! I have had a real shower for the first time in a month!! Bucket bathing sucks. I may have to leave my husband for the guys who put that boiler buddy in. Nah. But I'd have given them cookies if I'd had any. Now to deal with the nonfunctional oven. We're taking son to the zoo today! It's not as warm as it was yesterday but it'll do. He is a happy boy today. We managed to haul his actual bed down from the other house yesterday. He missed his bed.

My first Shindig...
Sunday, 11 March 2007 21:41:50

Just wanted to give a hearty "thank you" to Valerie and Allison for throwing a wonderful Shindig yesterday in Gainesville. My extremely better, prettier, and smarter half and I had a great time. Hope to experience such a wonderful Shindig again in the future. "Don't care much for fancy parties. Too rough." Rob O.

Back in the Black
Sunday, 11 March 2007 22:05:41

After spending the past few days thinking that I had finally managed to screw my connection up all the way I've obviously made it back here, which is good. Just got back from a night over at my parent's. Well - one part of them really. My mom and her new husband. As you might guess my real parents livei n divorce. The new guy is really nice though, so I'm all happy for her. Sometimes things just don't work out. Waiting eagerly for my done the impossible soundtrack to get here. 'Cause I kind of liked it. Also a friend of mine has made a couple of vids that she put up on youtube. Tried cheering me up, which is real great of her. Kudos for that. Boy... I missed this place. *blinks*

Well..guess my lesson wasn't quite learnt, was it?
Monday, 12 March 2007 05:08:10

So yeah...some of you might recall a past blog o' mine where I discussed how I came mere micrometres from owing Mark Millar $2000 for a signed copy of the Once More With Feeling script and a copy of the The Chosen Collection. Well...got myself involved in another 'Verse-related eBay auction and this time I did win. What did I win, you ask? Well...this:

Another one
Monday, 12 March 2007 08:35:32

Ok. Today should have been a busy day. I just made it a little less busy though. Kind of had to. I should have been at the hospital today to get new contacts. But I couldn't go. Too mad at my sister. Also there's some guy supposed to drop by. No clue what he wants here. There was something posted at the doorway though, so I figured I'd better stay home and find out what he wants. Other than that I'm somewhat tired and a little stressed out by the lady who cleans my appartment once a week. Talks too much. But! The sun's shining outside, so it's a good day. Gotta love the weather here.

So, what are YOU doing to defend against the Zombie threat?
Monday, 12 March 2007 13:23:26

Just finished re-reading "World War Z" for the... fourth time. Lovely little bit 'o fiction, that- AND, a great conversation starter, by the by. Me and my friend were talking about what we would do, if-WHEN!- the Zombies rose from the grave to feast on the flesh of living. It was decided- gather the folks and mei-mei, and retreat to hbis house. Use his collection of katanas to hold 'em off- WITH a mixture of Black Market SAM's for good measure. Why would I have Balck Market SAM's, you ask? Well, as Stephen Colbert said- "The Second Amendment gives me the Right to Bear Arms- and, so, it gives me the right to hunt a squirrel with a Patriot Missle". God bless the Colbert Report. So, I ask you, why not? So, what will YOU do? My mind goes to some rather strange and creepifying places at times. -Danny (Considering changing the name to H. Random- the "H." standing, of course, for "Hopelessly") Adios, folks. I'm off to English

Isn't it annoying...
Monday, 12 March 2007 21:07:09

... When you want a book but it's out. So you recall it. Then you have to wait two weeks for it to come in. Then after you have got the book and made notes from it, you find out that another library has it in its reference section so you could have saved yourself the time and effort. Oh and happy birthday to my mam. She's 59 today. TTFN Jennifer -x-

FireFilk Album Wins Folk Award

On the Drift: Music Inspired by Firefly and Serenity was named "Best Folk Recording of 2006," largely due to online voting support from the Browncoat community.

All apologies to the late, great Lewis Carroll...
Tuesday, 13 March 2007 02:00:56

I keep forgetting to give him credit for the title of my latest, but I promise I really will remember eventually. Also, I finished writing it, now I'm just posting it one day at a time... And I've decided I'm going to write a single-stand-alone with comic twist as a reward for all those who get through the Borogoves series... I think you all will deserve it. I know I'll need to write it by then. As always, thanks to those who read and comment and to those who read and don't comment...if you like it, it means I'm doing something right. Maybe someday, I'll figure out what that is, exactly...

nighttime
Tuesday, 13 March 2007 03:02:35

Last night I dreamed that it existed, that it was actually happening: Firefly Season 2 - All New Episodes. Then I woke up. My question is - why do I still care? I haven't even been active on this website since probably last October or November, but I can't quite get away from FF. I guess it's just one of those things that leaves a permanent mark. I don't know what else to say. Statements that start with "If only..." just feel like beating my head against the wall. mink

Emotions? Where did those come from?
Tuesday, 13 March 2007 13:15:51

Maybe if I write this out, it'll help me to sort it out. You guys always seem to have something useful to add, or thoughtful observations that add insight. I had my boys this weekend because Ami had to go down to Florida. Her grandmother, who had a stroke a little more'n a year ago, pulled her feeding tube out, and her aunt decided not to replace it, so basically they are letting her starve/dehydrate to death. It was a very sudden trip, and it caused me to cancel my plans to go to Gainesville, Florida to a Shindig a fellow Browncoat was having. I really wasn't upset about the cancellation, well, only a little, but certainly not upset at her for it. She got back last night. I had to take the boys to her friend Susan's house night before last so I could come to work tomorrow, and then I got them afterwards and we played all afternoon. Forsome reason there was a palpable tension between us, and we began by snipping at each other. It got worse, until I had to get up and go outside for a smoke. We continued to talk, which included me being the selfish abusive a$$hole I was that drove her away. Instead of just shutting my mouth, I let it keep going, and ended up saying some very hurtful things. This is how it was for a long time when she still lived with me. This is the reason I now live alone, and the reason I only get to see my kids on the weekends. The issue I am having with the whole thing follows: For some weird reason, I still want some sort of relationship to work out with her. I don't feel that we ever got to grow a friendship, as it seemed to me that we were a couple or more from the day we met. We are so very different, which is another reason we didn't really have success. We had a good long talk on Saturday morning when I was getting the kids from her (and we were trying to get Zachary's fever to break, it was bad), and even talked about her moving back and us being roommates, with her working the second job and me stopping working at Ruby Tuesday. Why do I feel perfectly ok that we are split up when I am sitting home lonely almost every day of the week, but when I see her I want to make something work? Honestly, it would be good for money's sake, and for having the kids home where I could see them every day, but when I really think about it, I don't want her to come back because of any feelings I have for her. Yes, I still love her, but am no longer 'in love' with her. I care about her well-being. Contrariwise, I can see myself completely falling for her again. What the hell is wrong with me? ~jimi/RIMG/SFC Alexander

Get Firefly/Serenity in Australia (Collectors Tin): Easy
Wednesday, 14 March 2007 04:52:40

I checked my first blog entry and an Australian said they had trouble finding Firefly. I had no trouble at all. I went straight to:

Done the Impossible - Revised
Wednesday, 14 March 2007 11:39:39

Which basically means to say that I got the soundtrack. *is so proud* Also I just got back from visiting my dad, which - for a change - went well. Even with his new wife. Or at least I think so. Basically they said that my sister is way too smooth for them, that she's wearing too much of a mask. Can't claim that for myself. I tend not to be smooth all the time. Never thought that could be a bonus. It's all good though. My dad suggested that I get in touch with a specific company, so I might be going overseas for a bit. Have to see how that'll pan out.

Grindhouse Fanfic vs Literary Endeavour
Wednesday, 14 March 2007 11:42:46

"Grindhouse: A catch-all term for films that played in cheap-jack movie theatres in the 70's - Hong Kong martial arts flicks, Japanese samurai movies [and] spaghetti westerns. Hall-marks are anti-social themes, sex, violence, [and] outrageous tag-lines." Um. Guess I've found my genre, then. But if it's good enough for Tarantino and Rodriguez... See, I try and introduce a little culture. Themes from classical literature and the theatre, mythology and deep psychological insights. And then I think 'F*ck this sh*t! Let's blow stuff up!' And, of course, there are the puns. It worries me sometimes. Am I the only person who thinks like this? Who can look at a perfectly serious and inoffensive piece of literature, and find a way to pervert it dreadfully? Who sits in the cinema, sniggering and taking notes? Who listens to a bit of music and decides to steal the imagery? Of course, if anyone is following my thought processes and getting all the jokes, well, you really need to get out more.

We are just too pretty for God to let us die
Wednesday, 14 March 2007 14:32:57

This is probably more properly written up as a blog. But blog's are less than dynamic when comments trickle in, and since our forums can be whirlwinds of opinions, I have my needle ready and have wet my thread. Huh. It didn't work as a thread. So "PRESTO", it is now a blog. Every so often a tragic news story comes on that somehow breaks your heart a little more than the rest of the tragic news stories you hear. This morning I watched a news video about a young women in the Detroit area who was found in the trunk of a car murdered. As the story went on, I caught myself thinking, "What a shame, she such a pretty young thing". (now before we get stuck on the word "thing", it's just an expression. I do not now nor have I ever been guilty of objectifying women. I do not know if the expression is a regional thing or not, but no slur is intended) I caught myself. That’s the point here. Would I or anyone watching or the news media that brings us these stories, have cared, even a little if she weren’t pretty?

Visitors from Outer Space
Thursday, 15 March 2007 10:33:42

I'm supposed to have a visitor over today. A friend who I have known for a couple of years by now but never actually met. Of course things keep getting in the way. And against my best hopes, they are doing so today as well. I just received a call from my boss, telling me that I should be over there this afternoon for a conference. Great. My hopes are he's got some time on sunday as well.

Some random things
Thursday, 15 March 2007 14:26:50

Hi there, This is a poem my Uncle Ken wrote. I thought it was good, it's about my granda Joe and his dogs CANIS MINER My Dad was a dog man, and all his life through Was never without one; he sometimes had two. His work in the pit was unsparingly stark; Carving out coal, in the dust and the dark So, when he came home, at the end of each shift, What could be better, to give him a lift. Than walking the fields, after tea, with a hound; Unconfined; breathing fresh air; a vista abounding In greenery; meadows and pasture and trees, With myriad many-hued flowers in the leas; And trailing contented, behind at his heels Or, questing for quarry, in hedges and fields. His faithful companion, devoted to Dad; The finest of friends that a man ever had. Dad loved walking dogs; he had many, through time. It got him away from the grit and the grime of the pit, which he loathed, from the depths of his soul; His dogs a release from that coffin of coal. and while looking for said poem I found some old photos of my karate class when i was about 11 or 12.

Upcoming fanfics.
Thursday, 15 March 2007 18:57:28

The Hunter and the Hunted: Chapter Three, Vengeance. An end to this fic (finally!). I have it all planned out but i just can't think of a way to kill the Hunter off. Plus there will be a Kaylee torture scene, which may be unpleasant to read depending on how far i go with that. Old wounds don't heals.(working title): Chapter One, Aces High. This will be the first installment in a series of fics which will focus on River and other Readers as well as an original character who will later provide a nice counterpoint to Mal's browncoat mentality. Possibly a little River romance in the bag as well. the first installment takes place in the Blue Sunrise casino (three guesses who owns that) and has River using her abilities to win in a big poker tournament. Has a sort of 'Casino Royale' feel to it.

Sad Rant
Friday, 16 March 2007 06:08:24

---Trying Not To Be Over-Dramatic: OFF--- I miss all the files on the hard drive we can't really access because the motherboard decided to die when we got back from vacation. Heat rashes are weird. I have to do math homework over my Spring Break. I'm tired. Talking about buying another computer stinks. (I'll admit the math thing is my fault, because I could have done it before now - but, I can still rant about it.) I don't want to lose the fan fiction story about Shadow I was working on... it wasn't gonna be perfect, but it wasn't gonna be bad, either. ---Trying Not To Be Over-Dramatic: ON--- In other news: I think I may be too emotionally invested in the Internet, and the worst part is I don't really have any reason for it. Sure, I've made friends, but no "bestest buds in the whole wide world" friends (to my knowledge). And I'm pretty sure it's impacted my reading (as in, I used to read a lot, and now I don't, but I still want to), and... I don't know. The Internet helped me get in trouble last time (I wouldn't really have had anything - okay, more than one thing - to lie about without its involvement), which is a long story about how self-esteem is important and optimism is good, if not necessary (plus other stuff I won't get into). But, I don't want to 'leave'. If I could actually stop posting when I say I won't post, that might be okay. I guess. So, yeah. FYI (for anyone who's interested): I'll be here, just not visible (and hopefully I'll be able to get the story soon so I can finish it).

Gone with the Wind
Friday, 16 March 2007 07:15:17

Well then, last night surely brought another surprise. My co-worker quit the job. And I'm actually considering to do likewise. I know that it's hard to find work. But really, I don't need the money that bad. And I really don't want to work with that other co-worker on my own, simply for the fact that we don't get along too well. Basically it boils down to me being unable to work with utterly stupid people. A lot negative stuff happened in the course of the whole thing. My boss doing a couple of things that aren't too good as far as inter-human relations are concerned. As did my co-worker. *shudders* Really.

Firefly DVD Boxset $19.99 at Target.

At least it was under $20 there last time I went -- maybe a week ago? So don't know if it's still on sale, but worth a look if you're in Target. --MAG

Finally watched the extras on the firefly box set
Friday, 16 March 2007 10:07:13

I gotta say: bravo, people. Bravo. The extras were so much fun. Did re-ignite the crankiness at those that decided to kill the show (and at such a young age too, what a tragedy) ... but I think my mum may even become a browncoat after watching the last scene on the gag reel. The deleted scenes were really good too. I usually avoid "deleted scenes" like the plague and worn out cliches (there is a reason they were deleted in the 1st place people!), but those were actually entertaining. And to re-iterate my statement in the tag: I like gin *hic*...

Why I hate Comic Relief
Friday, 16 March 2007 18:24:33

It's not the cause, I have nothing against giving to charity. I hate Comic Relief and other TV telethons in general for two reasons: 1. It's one night where a bunch of non-entities that like to think they are celebrities humiliating themselves. Especially newsreaders. Why do they feel the need to dress up in stockings? 2. The guilting you into giving them money. They show you pictures of starving Africans and say that if you don't give them money then the chld will die. It's the same with the charities that get people to sign up on the street. I really hate the emotional blackmail. I will give money to charity but I don't want to be forced.

Today
Saturday, 17 March 2007 05:13:07

Mom's memorial service is less than 11 hours away now. As she was cremated, we opted to wait a week for the service so that family and friends from out-of-state would be able to make it. My best friend won't be able to make it, however, as she had outpatient surgery yesterday. I told her that I'd come visit her in a few days and for her to take it easy. I had a number of things I needed to do yesterday, and only managed to get the laundry done. And now I can't get to sleep, so I'll probably surf online for a bit and then try reading myself to sleep.

Fiction
Saturday, 17 March 2007 10:18:46

A friend of the family and I have been discussing possible structures for the book I'm writing. The problem is that I want to transport a rather serious and important message that can't be transferred into one simple and single sentance. So I have to gain certain insights on one specific character without making him the protagonist, simply for the fact of me not wanting him to be that. Very cpmplex. *shudders*

Brown Coat
Saturday, 17 March 2007 18:04:56

Today, I finally got a Brown Coat. It was really expensive, my Grandmother got it for me from DANIER Leather. If you wanna get a feel of what it looks like, my parents have been calling me "Sarah Michelle-Gellar" since I got it. I haven't taken it off since I tried it on at the store, I feel very much a part of the Browncoat team now that I have a brown coat. I also feel very "Rock-Star". I love my Grandmother :) On another note, my dog got neutered last night. Poor guy's been like a stoner ever since...

Frank Miller's 300
Saturday, 17 March 2007 20:55:48

I just got back from Frank Miller's 300. I thought it was the best movie of 2007. The fights, the visuals, the plot, everything was PERFECT. I haven't had that much fun at watching a movie since Serenity!

Hope for the future...

Hi to all... I am very happy to see that the movement is still very strong and going stronger. For my first blog entry I just would like to mention that I am very happy about the Hi-Def DVD, but why is it not coming out in Blue-Ray format? I go for quality, that one of the reason that I am a fan of Firefly. Now I only, will need to wait for both the series and movie going in Hi-Def, in Blue-Ray format :crap: Do not tell me that the Blue-Sun corp. is loosing influence

Everyone lies like the fox on the rocks and the musical box
Sunday, 18 March 2007 07:57:53

Hi there, Yesterday I went to see a Genensis tribute band called The Musical Box. They were absolutely great. They were doing Selling England by the Pound. The singer sounds amazingly like Peter Gabriel and he dresses up in all the costumes too. They did Watcher of the Skies, Danicng with the Moonlit Knight, I know What I like, Firth of Fifth, the Battle of Epping Forest, The Cinema Show, More Fool Me, The Musical Box, Supper's Ready and The Knife. The drummer was spot on for Phil Collins when he sang More Fool Me, it was really funny. Also, yesterday morning I was at Durham Cathedral. It was fun, I was in the Building the church exhibition and I convinced a little girl to dress up as a monk. We also built an arch and played Nine Men's Morris (it's like noughts and crosses played on a different grid.) TTFN Jennifer -x-

AnJLVerse: Some Study Notes 1. Names
Sunday, 18 March 2007 20:52:01

The AnJlverse is post-BDM, and pretty much canon. Names: I’ve always loved the way Joss plays with names, so pretty much every character or place name that doesn't come from a FF source is significant in some way. 1. Another Girl Another Planet Every chapter title is a song, and the lyrics are appropriate to the chapter content. My OC: Ilargia Donovan. The original concept was a younger version of Katherine Hepburn in ‘African Queen’. The green eyes came because I wanted to give a nod to ‘Big Trouble in Little China’. I wanted the voice of common sense and common people that Wash was, but without the dress sense. Ilargia was a witch goddess, and a moon goddess, hence the choice of Hecate as her present home, and the moon imagery River uses. All the place names on Hecate are also witch related. Wei Fen means ‘dangerous smoke’, appropriate for an arsonist. Hong Da and Cheng Shu both mean ‘red shirt/tunic’, being expendable henchfolk. Tiy is an Egyptian name. Hence her curse in ch 16 about Amemait, who devoured the souls of the guilty in the underworld. The bazooka named ‘Rosebud’ was me having a ‘Citizen Kane’ moment. 2. Zen and the Art... A lot of bird and doll imagery. But Mount Abora was out of 'Kubla Khan'. It's the dulcimers... Ruksha means demon. 3. Cold Comfort Mountain Stella Gibbon’s book ‘Cold Comfort Farm’is a comedy about a large dysfunctional family. The film ‘Cold Mountain’, all backwoods Americana. A desire to write the Cobb clan. All the names are drawn from either county names in Georgia, or country singers. ( Ray and Carrie being Johnny Cash’s parents.) Except the pilot of the ’Daedalus’, Newmark - that’s a nod to William Gibson. 4. Viva New Vegas G (Grissom) is G-man (think Pinkertons) Dodge (Greg) is from Johnny Dodge, a first tv role. Pancho, (Nick) finale S5. Honey (Sara) was an endearment used by Grissom. Miss Kitty Fantastico (Catherine) was too good a name to pass up. As was River’s Dru impersonation, as ‘Miss Edith’. Rik (Warwick) was easy to name, but his character owes more to Christie (Alien4: Resurrection) and Mac (Brass) is from Max Allan Collins, who wrote the tv tie-in books. (And ‘Road to Perdition‘.) Conrad = Ecklie. All the nuns are from the film ‘Black Narcissus’, (nuns in a former harem house) and Marlon is Brando, from ‘The Wild One’. As is Bleekers Bar’n’Grill. Roy means King in French. Other names are all-purpose Western, nicked from anywhere, but the feel is ‘Deliverance’/’Rambo’ followed by anything Eastwood, and a good helping of Tarantino/Rodriguez. I picked the name Delmonico’s for the restaurant, having heard it mentioned on CSI. I then looked it up to discover that the first Delmonico’s was the first restaurant in the US. I read anything. I'm a movie geek. I have a terrible weakness for puns, even in other languages. Next: Imagery

Rewarded?
Monday, 19 March 2007 02:14:24

So, obviously, I posted the reward (i know, that tricky title "Rewarding Behavior" really threw you for a loop, right? sorry 'bout that...i'll work harder on the title next time  ) for all those who stuck with the "Borogoves" series. I really wrote it as a thank you...I swear. I mean, I wrote a dark piece...and I needed something to lighten *me* up...plus a while back, someone requested the crew gets a holiday, so...there ya go. As always, I hope everyone enjoys/enjoyed it...if you didn't...well..um...take a hug instead.

First rehearsal for THEOLOGY AND GROCERY
Monday, 19 March 2007 03:40:01

Hey All Today was sort of a big day for me. Today was the first time that I had a rehearsal for my 301 final project with my two actors. I've finally locked in a male lead, and this morning was the first time that him and Megan (my leading lady) came over to my place so that I can show them clips of what I had in mind for both their performances and for the overall film. For those who don't know, last summer I had written a ten page scene from a larger movie I have in mind called CROSSING BORDERS. I initially called it BORDER CROSSING, but after pitching it in my producing class, there was a general consensus that the original title made it sound like a BABEL type illegal immigrant story and not the couples married in Vegas and dealing with the aftermath story that it is. This, of course, is the dream movie that I have in mind that I want to make with Jewel and Sean in the lead roles. Anyway, in the ten or so page script I wrote, the couple in question goes to a grocery store to get groceries, and they end up getting into a debate about the existence of God. So I had been sitting on it for six months or so until finally, we were asked to hand in scripts for our 301 final projects, which is basically 15 minutes of whatever we want. So I decided to make it my short film as a sort of "trial run" for the feature. So, this morning, I had my first real rehearsal with the actors. I showed them clips from AMADEUS, BEFORE SUNRISE, TRUE ROMANCE and a few U2 concerts as a frame of reference, and then got into the actual reads. The first few reads were all right. Just them getting familiar with the script and figuring out the delivery and subtext of the written words. The main problem, though, came when Ryan (as Riley) read Riley's monologues as too excited. When I wrote them, in my head I imagined it as a slow burn. Of starting off a bit flat and inward, but then slowly coming around and building in excitement and spiritual bliss. But when this guy read it, he kinda reminded me of Dave Foley from KIDS IN THE HALL ("For I...have a good attitude...TOWARDS MENSTRUATION!!!"). Basically, he sounded like a nut. He sounded like Kaylee, only without the warmth or emotional depth. But then a really weird thing happened. We weren't getting anywhere with them repeating the lines over and over again, so I decided for our final read through to go the Robert Altman route. Basically, I told them to improvise and do a sort of co-writing session. Just follow the general direction of the script, but to come up with your own bits. And amazingly enough, it worked. They did a bit involving jellybeans instead of strawberries, but it ended up working incredibly well. The strawberries bit I wrote in there as a sort of inside joke for Browncoats, but I am admitting that I might end up taking it out since the improv bit with the jellybeans works. But the thing that amazed me the most was that when Ryan did an improv version of the Riley monologues that we had a problem with when he read it over and over, he delivered it exactly the way I had wanted him to deliver the scripted parts. I'm now thinking that when I shoot the film, that we would film it scripted, obviously. But that if we had time, that we'd do improvised takes as well, and that depending on whether or not they were good and fit in with the overall film, that I would intercut between scripted and improvised moments, to give the film that extra quality. It's weird. I designed it to be a sort of homage/variation/meta thing on Silee, but it's now becoming it's own thing, separate from any influence from FIREFLY/SERENITY. I actually thought of showing them a Simon/Kaylle clip from either the series or the movie, but I actually didn't, since I realized that there weren't that many scenes with them, now that I think about it. I think of the half season and feature film combined, that there's about maybe ten, fifteen minutes tops total of any Silee interaction. Weird. When I figure out how to post video clips on YouTube, I'll put it up there for you

Another Cycle Around The Sun
Monday, 19 March 2007 04:58:04

:stupid:  Yes, I've made it, for another exciting round trip about the Sun. Whoopee. And, in other news, I have school tomorrow. Yes, the break is over. :crap: I'm working on a take-home test for Calculus (the in-class test is Tuesday; review tomorrow), and I have to finish a book tomorrow for a test the next day (which I forgot to bring home for Psychology; fortunately, it's not very long), and then I have another test (probably Thursday or Friday, also in Psychology), and then I could try to finish all of my Anatomy colorings. (Don't think it's gonna happen, though, especially on account of all the little places, and more than 5 pages not even being halfway done. I'll turn in the ones I got done, and get a little credit, at least, if she'll let me.) After all that, the quarter's over. (Yes, it's cruel, we come back for end of quarter finals right after vacation. Oh, and Spring Forward being three weeks early. Grr. Arg.) As long as I don't bomb anything, my grades should pretty much stay the same. Right now they look like this: Psychology 1 - 91.4% AP Calculus Ab - 88.8% Anatomy and Physiology - 96.8% I'm getting college credit for Calculus through a special program, so I gotta do well on the test. Except for this one optimization problem, and one graph-sketching problem, I think I'm doing well on the take-home test... And, if I really want to get those colorings done, I can use my free period before Anatomy to do them. I'll be fine, though. At least I'm not gonna get a D in math, like I did with Pre-Calculus last semester (I had a C the first quarter, but the D for second quarter was so low - 60.1% I think - that it pulled the average down to a high D). Good thing I wasn't getting college credit for that class. Next quarter, I'm taking We the People, which is this government class about the Constitution and history of politics relating to it (I think). Never met the teacher, but it should be cool. And, we get to finalize our schedules some time in April (our school is nice, and lets us pick the class period, semester or quarter, and teacher for what we want). Oh, and I joined a Firefly role-playing site (

Real Life Browncoats? A tale of civil war and Genocide...
Tuesday, 20 March 2007 14:39:05

I know firefly was inspired by the civil war in the US, but there is another civil war, that makes the whole Browncoats saga more personal to me. I'm Nigerian, and Nigeria had a civil war in the late sixties called the Biafran war. A coup had just happened, and the group that ruled began to dominate and in some cases exterminate other groups, most notably mine, the Igbos. So the Igbos created the state of Biafra and attempted to seceed. They faught for almost 3 years, outgunned, outmanned, but holding their own, until the Feds backed by world powers blockaded the region and starved them into submission (not to mention being betrayed by their allies within the country, specifically one duplicitous and ass kissing ethnic group). For months after they surrendered they still maintained the blockade and hundreds of thousands starved to death, they then began weeding out the Igbos all over the counrty and systematically exterminating them. Emboldened by the fact that the world said nothing. Had it happened just 10 years later, they would have been condemned for their crimes against humanity, but even now, as it's being done quietly, no one says anything. We multiply with a vengeance. They kill a dozen people, an Igbo woman will go give birth to 12 children. Our population is actually outpacing the slaughter. Now the young ones who didn't live through the first war are starting to talk about a new war. Even I'm willing to go back and take up arms. But it boils down to the same odds. We are out gunned, out classed, and out supported. All we have is our honor, and our handsome faces. Lately I have found a lot of people from my region who had never heard of firefly and gotten them into it, and they all took an automatic liking to it. I think I may have inadvertently stoked the fires of revolution by making some kids believe they can emulate the browncoats, but the again... can't they?

Needy Returns
Tuesday, 20 March 2007 16:13:51

So I've been really loving writing posts for the Special Branch story. I've got a fixed storyline for the Needy character in that thread, well fixed in the essence of knowing his journey, but I've been willing to go on a few detours (And on occasion, it's allowed me to write bits that will tie into later events... totally by accident!) I also enjoyed the Destiny reboot a few months back, and now its re-reboot. But I still haven't finished my original Needy fanfic. The one which told the story of Needy before he got onboard the ship Destiny (which by the way is a different Needy to the one that exists in the Special Branch 'verse) Only, now the Destiny thread is totally wacky and out there, with robots running amok and Needy previosuly shrinking to one third his size, so it's relation to the Needy origin story is distant. So it seems that there are now three different Needy stories. 1. Prequel Needy - The character is more serious but offbeat, abd a total romantic. (Starring in "Needy's Destiny" in the blue sun room fics ) 2. Needy, First Boy Whore of Destiny - total goofball, with a tendency to act jealous and whiny. (Starring in the "Destiny" threads) 3. SereniTree/Special Branch Needy - Deadly serious. A former companion who fights the good fight. He died, was resurrected and now is apparently invincible. But he often talks to a ethereal being that only he can see, one who has convinced him that he is some "chosen one" (Currently starring in the "Special Branch" threads) All caught up now? Well hopefully that's cleared some stuff up. Now, the real reason for this blog: It's been 11 months since I last posted an entry in the "Needy's Destiny" fic. The original reason for the delay was due to errors with the site and me not being able to gain access for 6 months or soemthing ridiculous. Then when I got back, I spent most of my time trying to keep up with the Special Branch thread. I managed to get one new chapter done, but didn't want to post it until at least I made headway on the following ones (didn't want another 11 month gap) So now I've written two chapters, and the semi-concluding part (entitled "The Aftermath") should be written soon. That one shouldn't take too long as it's main purpose is to tie up loose ends and set up the next (or rather, main) story. I figured Needy's Destiny would be about 8-10 chapters in length. And I had the main idea in my head. But then I got sidetracked adding a subplot (a Wild Card attacking one of the companions) and that sort of became the main plot. So instead, what I've got now is almost a series, instead of a story, and this Wild Card one is merely the first episode. So Chapters 1-8 will be the pilot, and any other episodes will follow later. I'll try and get each following story completed though before I post any of the chapters. At least that way I won't have to write mega-long recaps to remind people what happened moments ago in the story. Which, is what I've got to do now. Eleven frakking months for heaven's sake!

AnJLverse Study notes 2: Imagery
Tuesday, 20 March 2007 19:43:20

This is just me knocking a few ideas about. A couple of folk wanted to know about my thought processes (at least, I assume that's what 'where the hell do you GET these ideas?' was about  ) so... 2. Imagery. Links to the names thing. Because of Ilargia's name origins, a lot of ideas relating to her, particularly in River's speech, are moon related. Other imagery, especially in 'Zen' - I did a lot of doll and bird imagery. The bird thing was partly River as 'little Albatross', but also a good link to the Ibsen play, 'Wild Ducks'. So the 'Doll's House' wasn't a mad stretch, either. And the whole birds/cages thing tied in with the soiled doves/sitting ducks line, too. Incidentally, it wasn't until after I wrote the idea of hawks (military) and doves (Companions) conflict that I discovered that 'Little Wing' (about the most perfect River song) was from the Neil Young album of the same name. And the doves flying up before Mal was basically John Woo. I had a wu xiu vibe about the Training House. Plus it gave me that little scene with Jayne - how there isn't much space for being pretty and useless in the 'Verse. Just to make you think about what the Companions or whoever really had in mind for River. The painted doll thing - River being painted up and kept safe until it was time to use her in someone's scheme. Tied in with the idea of a rather dull and pampered existence back in the Core, and a link to Ibsen's 'Doll's House', too. Her speech is so very good for playing with ideas. You can use metaphors or allegory, and unless someone is aware of the context, it does look like babbling. Unauthorised use of poetry and song-lyric creep in here, too. There's more animal imagery in 'Viva New Vegas'. Wannabe might be nuts, but most of his speech is Hunter S inspired, with a nod to Jubal Early (am I a lion?)

Character sketch
Wednesday, 21 March 2007 06:37:11

I wrote this for class, its a scene that describes a character, Her name is Willamina Strigoy Some days I think I am insane, I have to be, but then the beast on the fringe on my subconscious tells me not to be silly and wouldn’t it be lovely to go on a hunt. The girls remind me they are very much real as well. They lend me their memories and dreams for a lucid minute, so I experience them clearer than usual and I know that I am sane, in a sense. What I’m experiencing isn’t the by-product of a mental disorder, an artificial reality created disease, drugs or genes; this is my life now and I have to live with that, if this can be called a life. Those periods of time hurt the most, when I am flooded with thoughts and images I wasn’t there to create but I have to carry now. When I doubt my self and my health. Afterwards I listen to the beast and go out on a hunt. I search through the endless flood of humans; their multicolored auras that hang around them and leave trails for me and assault all my senses, and find a telltale trail of black, follow their ‘scent’ and leave another body for the homicide department. Those are the few times when I leave my hotel room without changing before or after. Anyone who sees me sees the killer and the girl, who was once alive, and not Angel Lee who they think lives there and who works in a bookstore five days a week. They would never connect me to her either, her being I actually, myself being tall and donning a long war braid and white, paler then snow-white, and the sweet Angel everyone loves is short and fairly noticeably Asian. I take precautions anyways, changing just enough, usually my fingertips, so the police could never track me down. The last time I had an episode like this, a bad one at least, I almost let the monster take the complete control he wanted, but the girl’s voices whispering in the corners of my mind kept me clear enough to remain in control. I left and went to a bar in what people call the bad side of town, near the warehouse district, where most of the patrons auras where black or turning and went to town. The news the next morning called it ‘The Bicker Massacre’ even though not all of them where riders, and the police upped their search for me. I know I can’t stay here much longer, because of these reports and the police presence. It’s only a matter of time. I had an episode today; the doubt and the beginning of insanity clouded my mind. The monsters laughed just waiting to take me over permanently. I think I almost lost it, ripped apart the bathroom, but the girls flooded me again, and I snapped out of it. Being remind of life, what was, should have been, could have been, and death can do that. After the headache the memories causes subsided, not as bad as usual actually, I washed the blood from my arms, caused from breaking a cup in my fit, in the shower. As the warm water calmed me down and relaxed my muscles, I felt my face, chest and arms, where scars should have been from the fire that killed six little girls so many years ago. I wonder, for the millionth time, where they went, why me, and when I will finally succumb. I should be dead and buried at least six feet away form life, but I’m not, only five of the girls are buried like they should have been. I wonder if I was chosen because my body was injured less, the only one that made it out intact, or if there was something wrong with me, something that marked my like my kills. The night when I was nine, and those flames ripped through my best friend’s house, was I destined to die and come back or did I just draw the cosmic short straw. Why am I cursed to see this evil, to have to change myself, using powers I have no clue how I got, and have to be the one who knows how it feels to kill? I turn off the water and my mind so I don’t have to think about this stuff anymore, why I don’t bleed and die like normal girls, why I don’t feel like normal girls, why I don’t even love like normal girls. I try to fight the questions that race through my min

Another tale of woe

I want to be a screenwriter. That's my secret. Problem is I'll never be subordinate enough to go back to college and I never learned the actual format for such things. I can only mimic plays, not knowing if it's the same. Plus, it's not like the states has a shortage of screenwriters. How do you stand out, one fish in the entire ocean? It's all based off of drive, and I'm too big a coward to have mine make any kind of outward appearance. I am a MASTER at looking calm. But my secret, that only you people now know, is that the calmer I appear on the outside generally equals just how much I'm panicking on the inside. Most things in my life are wonky right now. I used to sing. Not opera. I hate singing opera. But back in high school my voice was so in-shape I could break out in song on the street in rain or snow and not get pitchy or lose tone. I never did sing in public like that anyways, but it was nice knowing I could. Now I wouldn't dare let anyone hear me without a good hour or more warm-up. Even then only my family. Still, hearing the kids on American Idol today and realizing I once was able to out-sing 85% of them doesn't really do much for my self-esteem. It's hard singing without my grandpa. Harder than I thought it would be. I made promises to him before he passed. I make the same promises now, that I won't clam up and forget what we shared. Like I said, it's harder than I thought it would be. I feel so lost without his guidance. Much as I appear to want to stay under the radar, the truth is that I loved performing. I still do. And I miss it in a sad far-off way, strange for something that was within reach but 10 months ago. This is not going to be a very good year. I'm a vet assistant by trade, I think I've established that in my life amongst my family. But I'm only that because it's safe. Yes I love doing it, but I want - no, need - more. I need more fire, more fame, more pressure and artistic stimulation. There's no competition in the vet assisting trade. It's all about teamwork. No one notices you, not really. Truth is that all my lives are raining down on me, pulling me up into a torrent like a hurricane, trying to throw me in every direction at once. I'm paralyzed. I don't know whether to smile or bite -- either way my teeth are bared.

Mistakes were (ahem, <i>Progress</i> was) made.

Once again my story is back on track. As some of you know, I had plotted out the end of the story some 15 or so chapters back, and chap. 40 should have been the last. But the plot took over, and certain characters demanded more screen time, and if you write, you know how it is, and if you don't, well, you'll just have to take my word for it. Anyway, I have once again plotted out the end of the story (whose new end is chap. 54) Thank you to those who posted or emailed answers, inspiration, encouragement and/or butt-kicking; all needed and appreciated.

Wednesday, 21 March 2007 20:21:33

SO now I have a new niece. She was born on the 18th at 11:00 pm and she was 5 pounds 11 ounces. Her name is Audrey Elizabeth... So happy!!! Can't wait to see her ( sadly I'll have to as they live in Missouri) My sis is going out and taking baby Annie. We shall see how this goes. I'm betting Annie will claim the baby for herself and be mad when she can't take the baby home with her.

Not leaving enitirely
Thursday, 22 March 2007 07:23:34

*ahem* To those who didn't understand, or thought I was just grabbing attention, or whatever else: My last blog was not about not being agreed with, but about being treated as though I was a petulant child who just needed some time to cool down and then my anger over something I consider very serious would go away. It does not go away when ignored, it gets worse. I don't know why it's so hard to understand that. Or why it's so hard to understand why I wouldn't want to be around when things were pissing me off that badly. Staying around when nothing gets resolved is only going to make me angrier. I have strong emotions. They don't float away on the breeze. Anyone has a problem with that, it's just too damn bad. Put me on your own personal ignore list. Whatever. But don't expect it to change. I talk about and from all my emotions on this board, even good ones. Usually, in fact, it's good ones. Sometimes it's not. Sometimes I have a bad ruttin' day, and I get hurt and angry just like everyone else, and I'm going to talk about it and I'm going to respond to it and I'm going to want to get away from the source of it when there is no resolution. AND I AM GOING TO LET PEOPLE KNOW WHY I AM LEAVING IF I MAKE THAT CHOICE. I consider that to be being considerate to the people here I have ties with. I don't want them wondering if I just vanish. I was not saying "Everyone gimme attention!" I was saying "I want to leave and I want everyone to know why, so they will not wonder about what happened to me." If I want everyone to give me attention, I will say so. I will jump up and down and wave my arms and say "Look at me!" Because I say what I mean. What I meant when I said I was pissed and nobody cared and that I was leaving was that I was pissed and felt like no one cared I was pissed and was therefore going to leave. For the sake of my sanity. No point in banging your head against a wall and remaining in a place that is pissing you off when nothing is going to get resolved. That is how I felt. If you do not want to know how I feel, don't read it. If you read it and don't like it, don't imply that I have no right to feel that way. Or if I do, that I have no right to express it just because it might be a negative emotion. If I actually say something that upsets you directly, I'm not going to question your right to be upset, and I would appreciate the same courtesy. In that vein, I do understand if I upset anyone, because I was an angry and grating presence and I apologize for that. To those who understood where I was coming from: Thank you. Thank you for your understanding and your kindness in the face of my anger. I really hope I don't get that angry again for a good long while, because it's not pleasant to feel that way. You shiny folk helped me through it, and I appreciate that. You're right, of course, that I shouldn't let anger at one person and irritation at a few others on top of it get in the way of my ties with everyone else. I was mad at pretty nearly everyone yesterday, because I was irritable. Moreso than I've ever been. So everything just grated my nerves and I was just feeling very done with all of it, which is how I could contemplate leaving at all. I'm going to work on that not happening again, but I can't do it all by myself, so I appreciate you being here for me; more than I can properly express. You mean a lot to me and you will always have me in your corner if you need me, just as you're in mine. So. I'm not leaving. But I'll not be going back to the water cooler and I don't know how many threads I'll be posting on in general; will depend on whether my interest is sparked. The bar and grill and picture threads are a pretty safe bet. League of Psychic Nutcases if I can ever catch another thread before it gets to 'ridiculous load-time length', and ditto that for the Forsaken. And then wherever I feel the urge to jump in and say something. There are topics I've weighed in on so many times that I get bored repeating myself when the same questions come up, but I'm sure that most of ya understand that. Oh, and I'm a

Generous to a fault
Thursday, 22 March 2007 16:52:23

So lovely people, when last we discussed the A:censored:hole he had absconded with the brand new truck my mother had paid for and gone to live with the skank up the road. At that time we had 2 vehicles left. A 2002 Blazer that #1 drove to and from school and work and a 1989 Toyota Turbo that I drove. Well the Turbo is in need of some restoration and is to costly for me to maintain at the moment. It was decided that we would tighten the already tightened belt a bit more and buy #1 a GM since his fathers family can get discounts. His grandfather was glad to give him the certificate - until they found out that in the State of Alabama an 18 yr old is still a minor and can not be on the loan or title of a vehicle. This meant that the certificate would have to be given to me. Well they - the A:censored:hole and his equally sphincter like father decided that was not good enough, that I was just trying to steal their discount and refused to give it to us. So the man driving around in a $31000 truck paid for COMPLETELY by MY mother, refuses to let us have a certificate equal to about $1000 so that his son can have a car to drive. WHY? did I marry this man?

When Whoring Oneself Is a Good Thing
Friday, 23 March 2007 00:26:41

So! Just wanted to note that everyone at FFF.net has just 2 more days (11:59 PST on March 24, 2007) to make all the bids they want on various stars of Blue Sun Room, who are offering their skills in the name of charity! The charity being supported, you ask? Well, numerous Browncoats are providing their talents in the name of earning some cashy money for the Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network, who has tasked themselves with raising funds to aid victims of rape, incestuous activities and abuse of all types, and to help develop programs to prevent such unfathomable behaviour from happening further. The following list is just a sample of the wonderful disciples of Joss who have pledged their time and efforts to the RAINN cause: - BlueEyedBrigadier - AgentRouka - 2x2 (under the user ID “browncoat_2x2”) - danniisupernova - LucasHarper - jebbypal For more information, please click the Sweet Charity link and look around

Wow, I just noticed that it has been a year since I stumbled across this haven of Browncoats and all things Firefly! It doesn't seem like that long ago that I posted here for the first time and got my very own virtual brown coat from FollowMal huh, time flys doesn't it? There Will Be A Short Intermission...
Friday, 23 March 2007 17:12:30

Well, hopefully short. We just got news that our house purchase has gone through. Which means we are moving next Wednesday. Which means I have four days to pack up twenty-odd book carton's worth of books, a whole kitchen and one very unco-operative cat. Don't know how soon I will be up and running again, but the good news is...a dedicated study! And I've promised myself broadband, too. The only question is...decor. Yellow, with little floral stencils and fairy lights? Or shall I go industrial/mercenary with the big-ass gunrack? And I gotta get me some dinosaurs. Y'know, for those moments when I lack inspiration. (grr...argh)

"What makes Firefly so good?" reason 1326
Saturday, 24 March 2007 14:07:33

For many threads I have seem folks ask the question "What makes Firefly so good?" There have been many answers and I pretty much agree with all of them, but there is something else for me also. I'll call it "Character Response". One of the things I like most about FF is the way folks react to one another. Their reaction is always a pleasure to see. Whether it's Jayne making a face because he can't believe that Malcolm Reynolds has agreed with him on some point or him pointing a thumb at his chest verifying that it was "Me Jayne Cobb" that made a difference in the mudders lives. It might be Inara stumbling through her words when she finds that Fess Higgins is talking about Jayne (as the hero of Canton) and not Mal,or it may be Kaylee's look and gesture of surprise when she first finds out that Mals been married. There are so many more little things and every actor on the short run series played their part to the upmost. Course I'm not leaving out the writers and tv crew. They all did their work beautifully. This is just another reason why this show works so well for me. Z

another soundtrack to my life
Sunday, 25 March 2007 08:14:48

This was done from i tunes so i don't know what some of these sound like. so i'm going to listen to them and add a commentary IF YOUR LIFE WAS A MOVIE, WHAT WOULD THE SOUNDTRACK BE? So, here's how it works: 1. Open your library (iTunes, Winamp, Media Player, iPod, etc) 2. Put it on shuffle 3. Press play 4. For every question, type the song that's playing and the Band 5. When you go to a new question, press the next button 6. Don't lie and try to pretend you're cool... Opening Credits: Ready an' willing- whitesnake (good rocking intro) Waking Up: the journey- small faces (weird. not sure it's appropriate for waking up though) First Day At School: cheerio- Jethro tull (the title maybe but not the lyrics) Falling In Love: i'll get you- the beatles (yeah i could see that) Fight Song: my wife- the who (not that appropriate since it's about running away. I suppose that would be appropriate for me since I would run from a fight) Breaking Up: i'm losing you- john lennon (that fits.) Prom: won't get fooled again- the who (what's going to happen at this prom?) Life: fire and water- free (not gonna be a good life, everyy single day i got a heartache coming my way) Holiday: welcome to the jungle- guns n roses (ok i'll have that) Mental Breakdown: carpet crawlers- genesis (could be construed as going mad. the last one i did this was for the birth of a child) Driving: we've arrived- the rutles (not really) Flashback: i'm free- the who (i'd like that for my flashback) Getting Back Together: the magic of time- genesis (nice song doesn't really fit though.) Wedding: no time to lose- lindisfarne (maybe if i were eloping) Birth of Child: my mummy's dead- john lennon (ooh err... that doesn't sound good) Final Battle: ride on- AC/DC (of all the ac/dc songs i could've had i had to get the slow one for the final battle) Death Scene: oh darling- the beatles (lol) Funeral Song:born under a bad sign- cream (if it wasn't for bad luck i wouldn't have no luck at all, and since it's my funeral that would mean bad luck of some kind) End Credits: my generation- the who (great end)

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Sunday, 25 March 2007 20:29:53

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and I go waaay back. One of my very first memories is my dad taking me to see the first movie back in 1990. I was 3. I don't recall the movie at all, I just remember that's what we did. The second movie is etched into my mind, as well.

Scheduling Update
Sunday, 25 March 2007 22:22:46

I've decided, for the moment, to limit my posting to once a week. I'm going to update each Sunday evening until the story is done. On the rare occassion that there is more than one chapter complete, all completed chapters will be posted at the same time, or I will state in my comment which day during the week the rest will be posted. This is partly in aid of trying to start writing longer, more detailed chapters again.

Schedule for my last year of boyhood.
Monday, 26 March 2007 00:05:26

Hey All Last Friday, I went to register for classes for not only next year, but also for the summer. Normally around this time, I'm wrapping up another school year before dropping off the face of the earth for four months as I work my ass off for money to live off of. But since I made so much money last year with CP Rail, I decided that I would use this summer to take some summer classes for classes that I've been putting off for the longest time. Thus, I now know what my next year will be like until I finally graduate from college after five years and enter the real world. March 25th-April 11th: Work on final projects up to the last minute, primarily my 301 final. Had another rehearsal today where we went up to the store and did some preliminary blocking for the shoot between Fri and Sun. Last day will be the 11th, where I do my Kubrick presentation that I haven't really started work on. I'm a terrible procrastinator, so I usually spend the two days before it's due scrambling, which oddly enough leads to good results. April 15th-May 4th: Go home to work at family farm and make some extra money by helping out with seeding. With that as well as the income tax refund check, I'm hoping to make about three thousand, which should be enough to tide me over for the summer and next year. May 7th - May 31st: Take my first summer class, CS 100. Took it once and dropped it halfway. Will take a three week course that goes all day Monday through Wednesday up to Thursday morning. Will most likely go back and help on farm for Fridays. All of June: June is pretty much my month off. I'll either take a job that'll last me through the month, or will just devote to writing scripts, research for documentary proposals, exercise and dating. Although most likely in that scenario I'll just sit on my ass for a full month watching DVD's. Will end on the Canada Day long weekend, where the extended family will actually get together for a surprise b-day party for my Grandpa, even though his birthday's normally in Dec. Sort of a family reunion, I guess. July 3rd-August 20th: This is where it really kicks in. I will be taking the dreaded languages and try to learn the whole Spanish language in six weeks. Classes go from July 3rd to August 16th, with the final on the 20th. I intentionally put it back this far because May is season finale month, and that would have been a huge distraction. With July and August, I'll be in the right mindframe to barely pass. August 20th-Aug 31st: Will go home again and work for two weeks at the farm again, this time for harvest. Sept 1st-Dec 5th: There has been talks that I would get my grad present early and actually go to the Toronto International Film Festival as a festival-goer. Will take one class for the whole semester, which'll be Film 400 on Tuesdays between 11:30 and 2:30 with Charlie Fox. He said there'd be some overlap between the two 301 classmates, so I don't know if the gang I've been in this last year will all be together. I'm hoping that during this four month period, that I will be working almost full time. Would like it to be a film job (which I'll be looking for all year round, so plans might change), but will keep an open mind for other jobs. Personally, I wouldn't mind working for a courier company. I like driving around the city all day delivering packages. Dec: Go home again for holidays. Maybe work, maybe not. Jan-April: If Toronto doesn't pan out, then it's a road trip to Park City, Utah for skiing and Sundance. One class again. Film 401. Probably same time with same people. Complete my final project that I would have been working on all year and then graduate. I will enter the real world. (Cue Sia's "Breath Me" and scariness) After that, I have no idea what to expect.

Which once again brings me back to the subject of the nerds. Please don't any of you get angry with me for saying this. When the nerds were introduced into BtVS I thought that Joss would use them to eventually join the Scoobies with the loss of Joyce. This trio of brilliant nerds would have been a godsend financially and technologically for Buffy's cause. They would have come up with all sorts of brilliant devices and ideas that would have supported and helped our fair Slayer out. Buffy might not have had to die if they were around. The Nerds could have supported Buffy and helped her cause in ways that would have been great, and also they could have added power to the Scoobies and made the Buffy group so much more powerful. I totally believe that the Nerds could have solved ALL of Buffy’s financial problems if they had simply sold off, or shared some of their technological breakthroughs with the military or some private company. They would have become so rich that they wouldn’t even have come close to knowing what to do with all the money. I mean really…what military wouldn’t want to have their very own invisible gun, and how much do you think that they would be willing to pay for one? Hundreds of millions I suspect. Joss did not use the Nerds to their full potential. He ended up turning them into a group of clever idiots which in the end did not really serve Buffy’s cause. A waste of characters I think. My point is that Buffy’s financial problems could have been easily solved in the earlier seasons making it not even an issue. Why does Joss waste the potential of good characters that he himself created? This seems to be a trend with him. It's like he's shooting himself in the foot. Strange if you ask me. -River

Dialogue sketch
Wednesday, 28 March 2007 01:27:34

OHHHH DIALOGUE! The Club I walked into a crowded nightclub after a long day at the store as Angel, sick of the looks my coworkers gave me as I restocked the stacks. I’m dying for a drink, the blare of the music, and the crowds, searching for something I’m not ready to admit to anyone or myself. I settle down on a trendy, uncomfortable barstool and order the first thing the bartender pitches, something hip and sugary with either too much alcohol or none at all, and whose name is as memorable as water is breathable. I barely get a sip down when the whispering starts. I can’t even unwind without one of the girls wanting to chat or berate. “What do you think you’re doing?” Alyssa’s voice whispered sweetly in my head. Of course it would be her to chew me out to night. “I’m having a drink and enjoying some loud music before I go back to my room and sleep.” I replied in my head as I scan the crowd and the bar. “Liar,” she was giggling a little annoyingly. “You’re not here for a drink, you would have gotten something you actually liked” her worry and love radiating through me, I wish I did have a drink I knew I liked. I don’t have a chance to reply when she continues, “And you hate loud music.” “Maybe I just want to be normal for awhile or even just avoid the hotel for awhile longer.” “Oh you liar! That isn’t what you want.” “I don’t know you think that” “Because ‘normal’ girls wouldn’t have brought a knife with them.” I have to stop myself from laughing out loud, of all the girls Alyssa knows me best, knowing what I’m going to do before even I do. She has been my opposite in almost everyway since the beginning of time. Ever since I left home she has been trying to save my fraying humanity. She thinks she is winning, I think she is losing. “So what are you going to do if you can’t find one here?” She asks when I don’t respond. “Find what?” I finish my drink in a single gulp and order something stronger and I actually like. If I was smart I would stop drinking because the girls are clearer when I drink and if I’m sober and I can keep them out to some extent. “You shouldn’t drink that.” “Thanks mom.” I down the drink and order another “Find what?” “Don’t blame me when you get sick.’ I bring the glass to my lips to take a sip and hide my smile. I look around the club again taking the rainbow around me. “Find what?” I ask her one last time. “The black aura you’re looking for.” “I’m just here for a drink.” “You’re going to go to another bar and look there, that’s what your going to do.” “I am not-“ “And if you don’t find it there you’ll go to another and another, drinking the whole time until your sick and reckless.” “You’re crazy.” I finish my drink and order yet another, continuing my search, never letting my eyes rest. “You’re killing yourself.” I choke on my drink when I laugh, the sound swallowed by the deafening beat. “I’m already dead, like you, and if my body an heal itself from a 50 foot fall, I’m sure it can keep this poison from ending me.” “That’s not what I mean.” “Ok, what then?” “You’re killing soul, desensitizing yourself to death, allowing it to take over. You are making blood shed the cure for more and more minor things. You’re hunting even when the beast doesn’t tell you when you need to. You go out looking for some guy with an aura with enough black in it for you to justify killing them. You already don’t have a life as yourself anymore and now here you are, hunting when you don’t need. You’re destroying your soul” I stare into my drink, letting her words sink in like falling stones. I let my gaze return to the woman who I keep catching in the corner of my eyes when I scan the room. I start memorizing her features as I move my drink between my hands. I feel heat rise though my body as my eyes follow up the line of her legs, and over her curves. My mind wonders, imagining her in different ways. Who Cares, Winter Came Back
Wednesday, 28 March 2007 23:59:33

Originally posted on Myspace blog: Wednesday, March 28, 2007 Who Cares, Winter Came Back My interpretation of the song reflects to a false spring that was interrupted by a sudden return of winter. Friends gathered, people rejoiced, inspiration was found while it was warm, but the sudden return made everyone grateful for that one little slice of warmth. So I was listening to this song the other day and even headed a a thread with it at FFF.NET and it came to me. I never posted the sudden change in my mood. No longer angry. Sure I cussed the dumbass that didn't know what a blinker stood for on Rio Vista and I refrained from headbutting the nasty bitch behind me at Wally World last night. But that ain't exactly the anger I'm talking about. I'm talkin about the kind that burns from the inside out. It happens every now and then. Seems stuff fell through and I wasn't willing to face it. For those of you who've followed in the recent months, there will be no trip to Dragon Con. That means no march with the 76th. That means I will not be meeting many people who have been friends for over a year and have been some of the most trusted council I've ever known. So now that I've come to peace with the fact I ain't going it is time to move on. There are a few events slated before and after D*C and I may be given my chance to do my part there. Of course that isn't the only thing, but is in the top five. I must apologize to many of you for my absence for the last month or so. And for others I must ask forgiveness for not being a friend all along. Seems I reached one of those times where I was completely capable of walking and simply wanted to be carried for once. For that I am truly sorry. Currently listening : The Buddy Holly Collection

Granted, it's a D&D quiz (don't care for all the rules, and something about dice, so I've never actually wanted to play it), but that's still proof:

My university loves Firefly, and my new sewing project!
Thursday, 29 March 2007 16:50:06

So, I'm in the university library this morning looking for the DVD box set of the British version of "The Office" (which wasn't there :crap:), and I noticed that the "Firefly" box set was in the TV series section! And, I ran into one of my film professors the other day at lunch. We got to talking, and he told me that he's thinking about adding Serenity to the Intro to Film class syllabus. It would be perfect to show b/c sci-fi storytelling grew from westerns, and it would be great as an example of those connecting tissues. It just comes to show you really can't stop the signal! *** I was in a local craft shop the other day buying fabric to fix a dress that is a little too low cut on me. (I don't like people being able to see down my dress.) I noticed this brocade fabric with Mandarin patterns on it. This fabric was being sold in squares for quilt making, and it dawned on me to make a quilt in the spirit of Firefly. I bought red, brown, black, and champaign colored squares. I also bought this very simple quilt pattern with squares. I didn't want anything complex b/c I've never made a quilt before. School and work are keeping me too busy right now to start on the project, but once it's finished I'll post a photo in the Blue Sun Room. Later, Phyre

Finally saw Hot Fuzz

And it was great. Don't know why I wait 6 weeks but it was well worth it. I won't give anything away for those who want to see it but I will say it is very, very funny. I also went for dinner with John and the Andes (lol, that's from the film, and my friends are both called Andrew), and we had a drink in the pub. A good day all round. TTFN Jennifer -x-

Finals, Firefly, and Tijuana Bound!
Thursday, 29 March 2007 23:21:58

My legacy of infrequent updates continues, with at least a month since my last. My life is difficult sometimes, I willingly admit. There's not much good on TV, my health-plan doesn't cover the cost of my medication (which doesn't work to begin with!), and my brain disagrees with me on a daily basis. First of all, as any of you still in University knows, the Finals are leaning hard over my shoulder, scrutinizing me for any weakness before they snap my head off and suck on it like a peppermint for several hours before finally deciding to swallow it. Stress doesn't begin to cover it. It's all the more distressing because I don't know how to use PowerPoint, which seems to be a required skill to even attend some classes, now. I swear, it's like I'm fumbling in the dark, some days. It doesn't help that my body's first reaction to extreme stress is to shut down my immune system entirely. My body is very stupid. If I could, I'd sell it and buy a smarter one. I'm also slowly chipping away at Legacy. I just did a word count, and was confronted by the fact that I'm at more than 81,000 words for the third season alone, and that one is just about a third of the way done. In the upcoming chapter, we finally reconnect with the crew of Legacy, and actually hear in the text what Jacob named his son. As soon as I post it, I'm pulling the spoiler from Confederation, Part 3. Make 'em wait until they read it to make a 'what the hell?' face. And there's a happy surprise for one of the crew in this episode, which'll make up for a couple of quite unpleasant ones that are going to come in the next few. Finally, when I'm done of Finals and I have some time to myself (and when my passport finally frakking arrives), I'm hopping a plane to San Diego, and jumping the border to spend a week on the shores of Baja. I got an irresistable itch to leave the country a while back, but as long as I was still in school, I had to back-burner it for a while. Still, it'll be all the sweeter to ditch this glorified speed-bump of an Island to bask in the sweet... glorious heat of Mexico for a while. Oh yeah, and about a week ago I had a nervous breakdown. Still dealing with that. It ain't easy having the few friends I have departing to teach in the Orient by the end of summer. Ain't easy at all. Still, I'll survive. I'm like the hydra; you can't kill me. You can hurt me a lot, but I ain't goin' down. Besides, maybe this'll be what gives me the kick in the ass to either get a hold on my life, or to flee it and try starting a new one in Ontario, or Tijuana, or maybe one of those piddly little islands in the Carribean where folk live happily in a shack. I wouldn't mind living in a shack, so long as that shack was in a warm climate. Mmmmm. Warm Shack.... *drools* Anyway. Go read Legacy. I'm going to keep telling you to until you do. Trust me, I have a lot of patience, young fellow. I'm waiting...

Bono: NOT a Jedi Knight, kids….
Friday, 30 March 2007 08:43:53

I just saw today that Bono has received an honorary knighthood. I have mountains of admiration for the guy. He’s got guts and a big heart, and he really gives a damn about his fellow man. Congrats! Bono, you are the coolest of them all. But, apparently his younger sons were disappointed, they thought he was being made a jedi knight, and thought he would be bringing home a light sabre! ..hehe...cute! I read this joke a little while back and thought this a good time to share it with y’all (there are a few different versions of it - I like this one): Eric Clapton dies and goes to heaven. St Peter is showing him around...."There's Jimi, John Lennon over there........there's Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison......there's Bono...." "Wait a second"....Clapton says..."Bono's not dead!" "Ssshhhhhh" says St Peter...."that's God. He just likes to pretend he's Bono.

Not alone
Friday, 30 March 2007 15:15:56

I'm socially retarded. I don't know how to deal with other people. Put me in a room with people I don't know and I turn into the quiet little thing in the corner who watches and listens to everything, but doesn't quite join in. My closest (and pretty much only) friends say that I close myself off from other people, that it's like there's a wall around me until I become comfortable enough to show my true self. But I don't know that I'm doing it, I don't know how to stop, so I end up lonely. It's close to the end of my second year of college, and I still have no friends here. Sure, I have aquaintances that I talk to when I see them, but nobody to truly hang out with and go have fun. Because of that, my birthday last year was spent alone, the only celebratory part being the cake I baked and deocorated myself, yet had nobody to share it with. But this year is different. I went downstairs this morning and one of my roommates had written "Happy 21st Birthday (insert my name here)" on our message board in the kitchen. It's a little thing, but I don't feel alone because she cared enough to do that. My birthday is special again, in a way that it hasn't been in a while.

The Golfing Goth
Friday, 30 March 2007 18:37:12

OK so I just got the biggest kick out of this...... I was talking with my oldest Nephew a few weeks ago about getting out and doing something. I asked him if he still liked golf and he told me yes. So I told him that when I was in school there was a Golf Team in High School and maybe he should look into that. Yesterday he came home from school just a chattering away to Laurelin about how they had a meeting during his Resource Class (Study Hall) for the Golf Team. he said that he and a couple of friends decided that it sounded interesting so they went. He said it sounded cool and that they held try-outs in Aug for the next season. he told Laurelin that he wanted to try-out. the kicker is that he is a Goth. Hehehehe the Golfing Goth is born! Man I can't wait to see the look the Coach has when he shows up for try-outs! Hehehehehe (I am evil)! Yes I am sure that they have a uniform and all that good stuff but it is still so cool! Not to mention now I have a reason to Golf anytime I want this summer and can just say that the Nephew needs to get ready for try-outs! HOODY-HOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Aloneness-Not lonliness, but aloneness...
Friday, 30 March 2007 18:46:35

Sometimes I really hate being me. I feel that I am all alone in the universe. There are those who deviate from the norm to me noticed by the norm, and there are those, such as myself who are so far removed from the norm, or perhaps even humanity, that we are invisible. I have friends. Good friends. But I am alone. Its difficult to explain how I feel, or relate to you how this is, or has come about. When I finally write a song that I know that is from my heart, and my friends just stare at me wondering what the heck it is supposed to mean, or asking my why my music sound so 'depressing'... it hurts. So it is with everything that I slave to create. everything I try to say some how gets warped in the air, and the intent if it becomes mutilated and awkward. I am not lonely. I am alone. Among my friends, among the crowd. There are very few people who have understood me in my lifetime. who think like I do. One of them, she is engaged to be married in September, and needless to say, we dont really have all that much time to hang out, or even converse. The other was a highschool friend. Unfortunately we have been out of contact since then. I keepthinging of Joss' comentary for Objects in Space. How he said River was alone, among the crew. And that is very much me. Perhaps the reson I love the character so much. Perhaps why I love Joss' work so much, becaue it is a reacuring theme among his characters. I honestly dont know why I am writing ths. I suppose somthing to get off my chest. I dont know... Perhaps I just want someone to talk to and actually have a converstion with. Someone who can sympathize with me, and me with them. I dont know. I done ranting now.

Round 2...ding-ding
Saturday, 31 March 2007 01:55:49

Well, I've been home for quite sometime now. And It's about time to head back out to the Stan. For those of you familiar with me (the guy flipping off the camera with his finger on fire) then you'll know I'm headed back to the same spot me and Static were at back in 03-04. I'm excited to go, and can't wait, although it'll be quite different with out the ones who were with me last time. So...next time I post, I'll either be "enroute" or posting straight from the front line. You guys keep flying and I'll try to do the same.

Good day and Doctor Who
Saturday, 31 March 2007 20:14:08

Hi there, I was in Durham today. I had to pick up a copy of English Journey for my dissertation and then I decided to go up to the Cathedral because my friend Andrew was on. Firstly, I decided to do the children's quizzes. Then I went to the audio-visual exhibition. Then I thought it would be a good idea to go up the tower. I got to go up for free because I'm a steward. Although I forgot how much I hate narrow winding staircases. The view from the top is excellent but it isn't half knackering. And on the way down I was talking to two kids about Doctor Who. Speaking of which, the new series started tonight (see what I did there? Talk about great linkage of paragraphs). Anyway, I like the new companion. She's different from Rose which is a good thing.
