Grindhouse Fanfic vs Literary Endeavour

Wednesday, March 14, 2007 11:42 AM

"Grindhouse: A catch-all term for films that played in cheap-jack movie theatres in the 70's - Hong Kong martial arts flicks, Japanese samurai movies [and] spaghetti westerns. Hall-marks are anti-social themes, sex, violence, [and] outrageous tag-lines."

Um. Guess I've found my genre, then. But if it's good enough for Tarantino and Rodriguez... See, I try and introduce a little culture. Themes from classical literature and the theatre, mythology and deep psychological insights.

And then I think 'F*ck this sh*t! Let's blow stuff up!' And, of course, there are the puns.

It worries me sometimes. Am I the only person who thinks like this? Who can look at a perfectly serious and inoffensive piece of literature, and find a way to pervert it dreadfully? Who sits in the cinema, sniggering and taking notes? Who listens to a bit of music and decides to steal the imagery?

Of course, if anyone is following my thought processes and getting all the jokes, well, you really need to get out more.
