We managed to get all the furniture plus the washer/dryer and chest freezer into the POD. Friends are good to have. Friends who help you move are better. Friends who will do it more than once are just shiny! We get a day off to rest then we're unpacking Monday and Tuesday evenings. It took us about seven hours to load it all (including lunch and standing around BSing), so we should be OK... Now we just have to get the rest of our :crap:

Jury Duty And Other Things
Sunday, 01 April 2007 02:46:56

So, I'm eighteen now am I? Where the 'verse did the time go? Seems like only yesterday I was running around in dungarees with a t-rex in one hand and a jam sandwich in the other while yelling about someone having their pants on fire. Ah, good times... But never mind that, I have exciting grown up adulty-type things to look forward to. Such as taxes, jury duty and pensions (hey, is that a wrinkle?). Suppose I could start with choosing a university, even if it does mean I need a blood test and a course of three injections...I'll just keep myself going by thinking of retirement. Only fifty-odd years to go  b

Abnormal Service has been resumed!
Sunday, 01 April 2007 18:24:32

All moved in. Including the cat. And I have a jury-rigged computer on a cardboard box until the desk arrives. The study, cleared of the former inhabitants' stuff, turns out to be yellow with small vine-y stencils round the ceiling (!) anyway, so no hurry to redecorate. So, I now have a dedicated study. *extends arms, cracks knuckles* Time to go to work.

Dr. Who come back!
Monday, 02 April 2007 11:11:33

When oh when does Dr.Who series three return to Oz? Early reports say July. Please someone tell me I don't have to wait that long! There're only so many times you can re-watch old episodes.

Yesterday
Tuesday, 03 April 2007 08:24:36

Yesterday was great. Al and Karl were up for Easter so we all went to Newcastle for the day. First we wandered around, then we went to the Crow's Nest for dinner. Then we went to see 300. That was a good film. Really violent and gory. Great. Karl and JOhn wanted to recreate the film in Fenwicks with plastic swords, an escalator and mannequins. Then, we decided to go to the toy department at Fenwick's (yet again). Me, John and Karl were playing with the lightsabers while Andrew kept complaining of a headache. Then we went to Durham and spent the next few hours sat in the Waterhouse eating and drinking (well I didn't since I don't drink). Karl broke a glass. It was quite funny actually since he didn't mean to. So a good day all round. TTFN Jennifer -x-

oh my, the deadline
Tuesday, 03 April 2007 14:20:20

My thesis is supposed to be finished May 15. Until now that has been a date far into the future. Now its way to close. The good thing about the panic that comes with a realization such as this, is that i actually work. I do not work best under pressure, I ONLY work under pressure. I don't know if that is a good quality or not. Mixed inn with this improved work ethic is a boost of creativity. Im not able to consentrate on one thing for long (although longer than a few months ago when the pressure was still low)so I have knitted my first Jayne hat, drawn a lot and so on. The Jayne hat was cool to make. It was so easy. It took me maybe three hours. Never made a hat before, so I have now aquired a new skill. If I dont get a job before christmas everybody I know will get hats for presents. Now I have to go back to writing on my academic masterpiece. (NB! sarcasm) Have a shiny day everyone www.myspace.com/suecon

Frustration
Tuesday, 03 April 2007 19:55:56

How do you deal with it? Moreover, how do you deal with it in these volumes? Mine is currently revolving around the content in the BSR, and my contributions thereto. A couple dozen Burma-Firefly icons - the inspiration for which has suddenly run dry. Three fanfics in progress - one of which was progressing well at the time I finally found a beta, but my muses seem to have abandoned me even on those. Used to be I could fritter away on them for a couple of hours at a time and bang out two or three pages, but now in the same timeframe I'm lucky if I can cough out a single paragraph. Even then the writing is downright bland, where it used to read almost like poetry, like I majored in English at Oxford. So what the hell's up? No idea. Don't know if I'm just burned out, or if for some reason I've gone a touch soft in the brain pan and my inspiration has rotted away altogether. My attention span's gotten so short, I've had to reread this entry about three times just to make sure it's cogent without being redundant. Same thing with the fanfics - so dead-from-the-neck-up that I ain't even sure if they're fit for public consumption anymore. And even if they were, you know how disheartening it is to see, per-maybe-haps, a maximum of two or three responses to every post while everybody else's posts are outscrolled by the comments thereon? It was always that way on the Star Wars forums and it bites harder than a bad-tempered Reaver. This well and truly sucketh. Something's gone missing from my life and it would damned sure be nice to have it back. Where, oh where could my creativity be? *sigh*

iTunes Canada really pisses me off
Tuesday, 03 April 2007 21:07:16

As much as I love iTunes and my iPod, at times it can really piss me off. I can only get iTunes Canada since I live in Canada. And it's almost identical to the one in the States with one feature glaringly missing. The only video files we can get are Pixar shorts and music videos. We can't get the tv shows or movies that you guys get. Now this I can kind of live with. I don't have a video iPod, and I don't really want to watch stuff on something the size of a postage stamp. But today, I saw that an Alison Krauss album was available. Yeah, it's a greatest hits album, but I still like her. Anyone whose heard her voice on the OH BROTHER or COLD MOUNTAIN soundtracks can't not like her. I get a $50 dollar card to get her album and a few others. When I click to buy her album, it says "The item you tried to buy is no longer available. The availability of the item changed while you were using the store. The same item may be available with a different price or elsewhere on the store." What's the point of advertising a full album when even if you buy the individual songs (which I did) they are all not fully available? This just infuriates me. Now I gotta download a possibly corrupt version of it off of BitTorrents. Just something that bugs me is all. Any iTunes or downloading horror stories or anything like that?

The Scene
Tuesday, 03 April 2007 22:37:18

And now a scene involving my interesting character, and death and violence, lots of death and violence. Hunt I don’t really know where I am heading; I’m just following my feet. I’m in a district that caters to college students, an area of town surrounding the university, the college district. I blend well into the twenty-some-things crowding the streets in their endless search for the ultimate party, quick lay, or the freedom and reprieve they crave. I slip in and out of the crowds easily, sorting through the floods of color, searching for the perfect kill. The beast and I don’t have to hunt for long; he passes inches in front of me. I follow him, a safe distance behind, into an old pub and the perfect hangout for no-partiers who want a drink. Once inside he heads straight over to the pool table, greeting a man who I can tell right away is my second kill. As they start their game I settle down at the bar, knowing they can see me. As I wait for the bartender, I pretend to glance around and I catch my first mark’s eye and give him a sweet smile he must be use to seeing. I feel the beast’s excitement grow when he sizes me up. When I order my drink he nudges his friend and points to me, both taking an obvious interest. They make it too easy. They wait until I finish my second beer before they approach me. Jake and Van, that’s what they call each other when they introduce themselves and begin the classic mating ritual of the college student, thinking I’m a future conquest. I know they aren’t going to see the sun of another day or talk to anyone else ever again, so I tell them the apparent truth, “Willy, I’m Willy.” When I tell them I’ve never played pool before, they offer to teach me the game, and order me another drink. I feign ignorance when Van slips a pill into my drink while Jake shows me an easy move and sneaks a grope. I smile when I take a sip, playing along when the GHB enters my system. I giggle and stumble, pretending to be drunk and drugged, while my body cleans up the drug and alcohol in a matter of heartbeats. It doesn’t take long for them long to usher me out of the pub and sweep me up, taking me to their dorm room. When the door closes behind us, the looks on their faces turn from nice to evil. They turn into predators, sizing me up waiting for their attack. I keep playing the part of victim, bumping into the bed and falling against. Falling into the perfect position. My original target, Jake, makes the first move, Van waiting patiently in the background. He moves down to my level and touches my face as he whispers, “Don’t worry, I’m gentle” with a laugh. He moves again, to pick me up or undress me, and I make my move. The heel of my hand hits the soft of his throat with all of the force I can muster in a blink of an eye, knocking him back. He hits head on the ground and lose consciousness. Van is surprised and I use this to my advantage. Before he can react I’m off the ground with one of my ropes waiting in my hand. I slam him into the wall and with a skilled hand I wrap the rope around his neck and tighten it. With a jerk I tie it off and leave him gasping for breath, clawing at the rope at him neck. I slow down, having disarmed them. I stand over Jake lying prone on the ground. I run my hand along the side of his face and kneel besides him, my fingers getting bloody from a wound on his head. I pull out my sharpest knife and rest it beneath his sternum. “Don’t worry, I’m not gentle.” With a gentle push the blade slides into him and with a steady hand I slide it down parting the skin and connective tissue. Jake’s life doesn’t last much longer once I begin, and I leave him covered in his own blood. I turn back to Van who is lying on the ground too, pale with blue lips but the hint of a pulse still banging against his arteries. I grab him by the hair and pull him up, blood smearing into his hair. The hint of life in his eyes flickers with fear. I jar his head back and gaze into his eyes, the beast reveling in the fear. I thrust my still warm and wet blade in his throat, through his neck, and w

Sick .....again..........naturally
Thursday, 05 April 2007 01:24:26

I am sick of myself. I am sick of my life. I am sick of being sick. I watched a documentary last night about a man who was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 29. He fought tooth and nail to stay alive, and died at 39 because of accident. I KNOW that I have much to be thankful for, and that I am better off than most people. But I get tired of everyday being a struggle. Everyday brings one more emergency I have to deal with, one more bill I have to figure out how to pay, one more drama that has to be lived through. I have bronchitis again. I am sick of me and I am sure everyone else is too. boo hoo boo hooo booo hooo. I wish myself would just shut up. :disappointed:

Just feeling kind of blah
Thursday, 05 April 2007 09:37:44

Hey everyone, I'm sorry if I've been kinda withdrawn lately. Just wanted to let my friends know that there's nothing really wrong, I'm just not feeling too social. If it hasn't been obvious, I guess that's good, but I've been feeling like I haven't really been giving everyone the attention they deserve from me. I could go into every excuse as to why, but it all comes down to me feeling a lil blah about things and have a bit of stress on my mind. So, I do love you all, and hopefully will be back to my effusive self sometime not too long from now.

Jethro Tull
Thursday, 05 April 2007 11:15:25

I went to see Jethro Tull last night and it was awesome. The violinist they had playing with them was absolutely excellent, if disgustingly pretty. Some people have all the luck. I can't help but feel that the drummer was a little overdressed, since Ian Anderson was wearing a snazzy waistcoat, the bassist was wearing a hawaiian shirt Wash would've been proud of and the drummer was wearing a suit. It was my cousin David's very first concert. I can still remember my first concert, the Bootleg Beatles at Newcastle City Hall 12th December 1997. The week before my Granda Joe died. Anyway, it was a greast night. They should have played Skating Away on the thin ice of a new day though, that's my favourite Tull song. Something to note though: never go to Middlesbrough. It's a horrible place with the world's most pointless bridge. Yes I mean the Transporter bridge. TTFN Love Jennifer -x-

ok, so maybe the snow was a good thing
Thursday, 05 April 2007 17:19:43

so this is slightly, well very belated, thanks to a final art exam and tonnes of prep work for it. Anyway. said boyfriend went to Italy, and (I quote)'fell in love with someone else' in a week. So I don't see him til first day back at school, completely unaware of all this, and he won't speak to me, or even look at me. Understandably puzzled and upset, I try to find out what's wrong to no avail, until that night, when I receive an email entitled: 'I'm sorry' from him. Yes! I think, I'm gonna find out what's wrong! and I did. He dumped me, in ridiculous text talk I could barely read, in an email. Said it wasn't fair on me if he wasn't 100% dedicated to me, though he still really liked me, but he couldn't help the way he felt, and that I deserved better, etc, etc. you know the drill. Course, I was seriously upset, and did some detective work... turns out.... all the girl did was fall asleep on his shoulder on the way there, while everyone was yelling: 'what about kate??' at him, and she doesn't even like him. At all. (incidentally, my friend's boyfriend also dumped her on the exact same day, for the exact same girl, and said girl and ex are now going out, earning her the cute little nickname of 'whore-bitch' in my circle of friends , but that's a different story). So, this was about 6 weeks, lots of tears, and a list as long as my arm of people who wanna beat him up, ago, and for about 4 of those, he's been avoiding me to the point of not hanging out with his friends that I'm also friends with, while I, being the gorramn nice person that I am, am trying to be polite and friendly, cos it really upset me that he should feel so uncomfortable around me - when really it should be the other way around, right?? (believe me, the lessons in which I had to sit next to him were so awkward, I might as well have been sat next to a brick wall - heaven knows he's got the personality of one!) Then, about 2 weeks ago, we finally got talking again, which progressed into flirting, and coming onto each other, and back to how we were before. And cos I'm such an idiot and he really is my kryptonite and I still feel the same way about him... I broached the subject of us getting back together, and he tells me that though he really would like to, not yet, because he still likes the other girl too much arrrggggghhhhh!! I can't win, I really can't, because as hard as I try, despite all the times he screwed me over, made me wait for him and broken my heart, I cannot get over him. I still want him back.

On The Edge
Thursday, 05 April 2007 18:55:31

Sorry for the wait for the last chapter! You can blame Mal4Prez. She wanted an epilogue, which the story didn't originally have!, and so I had to write it and send it to her to beta. When she gets it back to me, I'll post the last chapter - and then the epilogue. - well, ok, maybe I'm not so sorry for the wait. I do enjoy torturing readers nearly as much as the characters. . .

Most emotionally tense class ever
Friday, 06 April 2007 01:05:11

Hey Blue (you've been the only consistent reader of my blogs, so I might as well address you) Yesterday was the day that I would show my first rough cut of my final project entitled THEOLOGY AND GROCERY (I've decided to drop the CROSSING BORDERS hyphen since it's become a bit of a stand alone film for the purpose of this class) to the class. I was nervous (it's gotten to the point where the film is almost out of my hands and has a life of its own) but at the same time excited. Yes there were some technical details that still need to be ironed out, but for the most part the film is what it is. I was hoping for some positive feedback and constructive criticism. What I end up getting was "The sound needs more work, you broke the 180 line, the Bono monologue lost me, there's no moment of weakness from Riley. But your actors were really good." So I new have to get my actors together again for an hour to do a poor man ADR and looping with the DAT recorders, which are actually outdated pieces of crap that we barely could get to work for us when we used them for an assignment. I guess it's just frustrating when you put so much of yourself into something that's been living in your head for nine months and work on for five days nonstop. But I guess I kind of knew that coming in, so I can't really say I was surprised. What I was surprised with was that the stress that we were all having with our projects started to spill over in full display. One guys project I worked on was compromised despite having two camera and a full lighting scheme because his "actors" weren't fully prepared and rehearsed. At the end of every take one of the actors burst out laughing. And this was a very beautiful but emotionally intense film they were doing, so it was affecting the final result. Fortunately, he still hadn't shot the majority of the film, so he still has that opportunity to make something great. But he said that after this, he was done with directing. He just wants to write from now on. Another guys project was a really edgy, irreverent comedy (the subtitle was "Guns, Violence and Intoxication" which is an inside joke for us) that our teacher actually got worked up over. It's all narration and it gets pretty funny on that ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT level, but it has a joke about pussies (both kinds) that's said to demonstrate how gutless the two characters were. Well she just ripped into it and said it was sexist and crude and just awful. She actually sent us all an e-mail talking about it. Hi Everyone, Upon further reflection after our conversation about blank's film yesterday, I realised we did not take the time to discuss the actual word "pussy." In the slang form that blank uses in his film, the word refers to a weak person with negative qualities. Thus, a weak person is equivalent to a woman's vagina, nicknamed pussy. The term gets extended to mean that women in general are weak and possess negative qualities. A degrading view of women; a horror for men to be compared to. Likely, in any person's life, the most courageous and deeply strong people they meet and know will be women. Also, what is weak or negative about growing a human being inside one's body, enduring the difficulty of that, and giving birth to her or him through that vagina which is regarded so negatively? It is clearly an act of strength, commitment and courage for a woman to have a child. We have all come from this positive place. The word "pussy" stems from antiquated patriarchal views of women that misconstrue the truth. This is just more propaganda blank.. it would be nice if you didn't spread it. Thanks, Blank You have to understand. This guy is not in any way crude, boisterous or sexist or any "ist" for that matter. In regular life he's pretty quiet and meek. When he's in front or behind the camera, he's incredibly funny. I call him our resident Mel Brooks. When the issue was brought up, I had made a suggestion that would have shortened the joke and made it less offensive, thus making it fun

If I could hug anyone in the world, I would start right here in the verse. I would have to spend a lot of time here, cause there are so many of you. I wonder if you can get carpal tunnel of the elbows??

School Report on Ballad of Serenity
Friday, 06 April 2007 01:37:32

I had to do a short report recently where I had to write about my favorite song, what it means, and why it is important to me. As you can guess, I did the Ballad of Serenity. I got 100% on the assignment, and here it is: I am very specific about what music I like. I do not like the majority of today’s music, as it seems people have lost any kind of sense of what music should be, and use it more as an excuse to make money (Similar to how many modern films have lost their touch). Music is not a huge part of my life, but I do enjoy listening to it from time to time. The song I chose is the theme song to a short-lived TV series called Firefly. The song describes the life of the main character, Malcolm Reynolds, the captain of starship called Serenity. He lost his faith during a war he was on the losing side of, against a totalitarian government called the Alliance. The battle he lost everything in was called the Battle of Serenity Valley. He named his ship after that battle because “Once you’ve been in Serenity, you never leave”. The song describes how the Alliance took everything from him, but that they can’t take “the sky” from him. The song eventually took on another form, as it represented the fight fans of the show gave after the television station FOX cancelled it after showing the episodes out of order, and shifting its time slots around. Fans used it as a rallying cry to see more of Firefly, and help the creator, Joss Whedon, in his effort to resurrect the franchise. After many months, FOX released the TV series on DVD, including 3 unaired episodes. Fans converted other people into fans, and it continued, making Firefly one of the best-selling DVDs of all time. Because of this, Joss Whedon was able to create a movie, called Serenity, under the production of Universal, and including the entire original cast. The film was not so successful in theatres, due to a small fanbase. However, it still remains a song that all fans of Firefly sing and have sung since the first episode aired. The DVD of the movie and series continue to sell well after being on the shelves for over a year. More fans join the movement called the “Browncoats” every day, petitioning and using guerilla marketing to hopefully, one day, see another movie or see the TV series resurrected again. This song means much to me as I am a “Browncoat”, and have fought to see more of the Firefly universe, which has become a cult classic. The story of Firefly, Malcolm Reynolds, and the fans all echo in this short, one-minute-long song.

Some Musings on "Old Warriors"
Friday, 06 April 2007 17:22:25

So I got to thinking about how "Old Warriors", a quick piece I intended as a one-shot, is proving to be my most commented-on story ever, here and elsewhere. Some of that seems to be because folks liked it - THANK YOU! - and some because I left it very open-ended, which apparently hooked some folks and annoyed the hell out of others. I'm not typically a "write on demand" sort, and initially declined the requests for more story and more answers. I LIKE being a tease. However, it's become clear that my muse is a SLUT. So, for those folks who asked for the tussle, the aftermath and some answers -- They're coming. Mind you, you may not like the answers you get. Trust me, my muse isn't that much of a slut and I ain't writing it over!

Cat Lady
Saturday, 07 April 2007 01:15:09

I know how it starts. You know the story - news at 11 - 29 cats removed from the home of an elderly lady. Well it didn't start out that way. Once she was a hot mom, just doin her thing and the kids talk her into a cat. Off to the shelter they go to pick one out. They enter a room with cages covering one wall and in each cage is a couple or so cats. Now these cats are smart, they have learned the "hey pick me pick me" manuever of sticking their wittle paws out of the cage and beckoning in a sad sort of way. Now Hot mom was probably a sensitive sort of person and when the kids picked a cat out that was rooming with another simiarly sized cat, well the hot mom PROBABLY thought that you couldn't separate them. I mean hot mom probably had two boys and envisioned someone taking just one of the kids and leaving the other to lanquish lonely and pathetic in the cage. So the kids get a cat each and all is happy. I mean whats the big deal, you scoop poop for one anyway, so two wouldn't matter. Then as time goes along everyone is just amazed at how easy cats are. You put out enough little boxes, arrance for someone to put in fresh water and food and you can go away happy in the knowledge that the cats routine hasn't changed in your absence. And THATS when it happens. Once you are lulled into a sense of security. A sense of comfort in how easy the little buggers are, thats when they get you. Because one day someone you know will have a cat they can't keep so you will say sure I'll take it, I have two whats one more. And then there is the stray cat at work that looks cold in the winter, and the kitten that shows up in the yard. Soon there are 12 cats and if you are going to have 12 well whats one more?????!!!!!!! So do not make fun of the dear old thing. She was young once, she was YOU once, and she got taken by the CATS.

Reminiscing
Saturday, 07 April 2007 15:36:37

Hi there, While out on Monday my friends and I were remembering something that we now apparently only call 'that day'. 'That day' happened to be Tuesday 31st August 2004. We had all decided to go to Newcastle so John and I could check out the city before we started uni. It was an uneventful day (apart from being harrassed by a madman in a church) until we got back to Durham. Since we had an hour until the bus came John, Al and Karl decided to buy a bottle of Leffe (Belgian beer if you don't know) and go and drink it down by the river. Andrew and I went to the Cathedral instead. When we got back we found out that Karl had dared Al to run up a steep hill. And then to run back down. Unfortunately, Al couldn't stop and ran into a bench at the bottom and somersaulted over it. Even more unfortunately, it had metal spikes sticking out the back; which Al hit and nearly castrated himself. Now Karl's reaction was apparently hilarious. He stood there saying nah over again. Al's reaction was to stand up and walk it off. If that was me I would have been screaming for an ambulance, but not Al. On the bus home we were all talking about it and Al just turned round and said: "you're not stil going on about that are you?" That was when we decided Al was hard as nails. He probably wouldn't even have gone to the hospital if his dad hadn't forced him. TTFN Jennifer -x-

Maryland's first REAL snow!
Saturday, 07 April 2007 15:43:59

So, last night Southern Marylanders got four inches of snow. This was our first snow of the year, and it came about two months too late to do any good!

springtime..
Saturday, 07 April 2007 19:02:15

I am aware that I live in northern Europe and that spring might come late up here but this is just ridiculous. Three days of storm and snow. Yay. Just when we had put away our winter clothes...

Sunday, 08 April 2007 11:37:16

On Thursday night I was lucky enough to be at G3 at Massey Hall (4th row center!) with Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert and John Petrucci. The concert started at 8:00 PM. Paul opened and played lots of Racer X songs including Scarified and Green Tinted Sixties Mind as well as Downt To Mexico, Rusty Old Boat and Skit Scat Waa. Paul was also totally wasted but it didn't really affect his guitar playing so it's no big deal. He is also amazingly tall and skinny. His wife played keyboards. Petrucci was on after the intermission (during which I bought a Paul Gilbert hoodie, Satriani wristband and G307 T-shirt). There were alot of Dream Theatre fans there so Petrucci was a big hit. Dave LeRue was on bass for the rest of the concert and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theatre) played drums for John. Portnoy was hilarious and started tossing his sticks to the booth and playing with one hand, the people in the booth then flipped the sticks back adn he'd do it again well you get the picture, needles to say it was pretty impressive. Satch was on after the next intermission. He was practically righ in front of us first off which was really cool. He played alot (more than the other two) so I kinda lost track of what he played. It was Satch so you can only expect perfection. He had his white guitar, his red guitar and... his chrome guitar! That's right, chrome, so you can only imagine how bright it was in there with all the lights bouncing off his guitar and his head. While Satriani played his last song, John and Paul joined in. Then together they played a Jimi Hendrix medley (Foxy Lady, Purple Haze, Voodoo Child). For the whole last bit of the concert (all 3 of them together) the whole first floor was standing and jumping and clapping, we were all pretty pumped up. After the medley they played I'm Going Down and a Stones song in honour of Keith Richards snorting his father's ashes on stage (they also had Paul introduce the song, lol). Paul pulled out his drill around the end which was damn cool and he also did this tapping thing at the end which I couldn't really see so my dad threw me up in the air, that got me a pretty cool look from Satch so I'm happy. There were lots of picks and drumsticks thrown to the audience and Gilbert joked about throwing the drill. So far there are two videos and one slideshow on YouTube here:

You know you've hit a rut when....
Sunday, 08 April 2007 16:23:46

... you spend a Saturday night/Sunday morning c leaning up your own mother's alcohol induced vomit. Seriously, this is why I love uni. I have FRIENDS there. And so am able to go out and get drunk like normal eighteen-almost nighteen year olds. It's two weeks into the Easter holidays and I haven't been round town once. Granted, I have a pretty good reason to have no friends. I tend to not like people who say they are my friend and then jump on my boyfriend the day after he dumps me. I tend not to like people who sleep with my best friends boyfriend at the prom and are now carrying his baby. I tend not to like people who encourage this behaviour. But still, it's undeniable that my entire gang of friends from sixthform now pretty much hate me. I got 16 free tickets for this night club Fusion, for my approaching birthsay. I have three friends to give them to. Four if you count my sister. Six if you count two of my friends who hate Fusion. Seven if you count this guy I don't really like but hangs about with my mates anyway. Yes, my birthday is going to be banging. Alls I can say is, roll on April the 23r, I don't care if it means exams and revision, I WANT TO GO BACK TO UNI!!! Thank you for listening. P.S. In Fic news, I am currently writing the second chapter of a longish S/K fic that follows my fic The Most Important Job. It's called Job Satisfaction. And I may be needing a beta at some point. That is all.

A Christopher Titus quote (FF related!... sorta, kinda)
Monday, 09 April 2007 02:58:04

So, I went home over the weekend, and I found some Christopher Titus stand-up on my parents' DVR. Here is something he said that every Browncoat will enjoy:
I survived three years on the FOX network. I know there is a God!
 Gotta love Titus! Plus, his show rocked!

The Return of Moi
Monday, 09 April 2007 18:36:25

I'm baaaaaaack! Not that anyone probably noticed that I was gone, but hey, I had to throw it out there :-) The computer and internet at home were down for 3 weeks (seriously, I felt so disconnected I wanted to cry) and they've FINALLY been sorted out today. I'm ecstatic, to say the least! The downside is I've missed SO much on here! My mind boggles. So begins the slow process of trawling through the forums and BSR, but I'm actually looking forward to settling down and reading a whole new bunch of fics *rubs hands together gleefully* Yes, I'm sad like that. Anyway, hope everyone's doing well! Peace out, Sadia :-)

Chocolate: is there anything better?
Tuesday, 10 April 2007 02:33:03

Actually there are many things better than chocolate, but all involve chocolate as a component, eg: Strawberries and chocolate Choctails (cocktails made of chocolate YUM) Bubble bath with chocolate Nice man with chocolate in bubble bath... Chocolate makes the world a better place, a fatter place, but better  Good to read through the new fridge notes since last i was here (love them) and browsed the artwork (some mighty fine pictures there folks). Something new I found out: a fair portion of the Firefly cast did voices at various times for the cartoon series Justice League... weird (I used to watch that cartoon when I was at uni, a flashback to childhood. And 'sides uni life is meant to be drinking, recovering in front of TV - or in worse case scenarios in front of toilet bowl - and on occasion attending campus). It used to come on at just the right time, first thing in the afternoon (which is when I used to get up and greet the day ... well maybe not greet as such; more groan, curse the excesses of the night before and plan on doing the same in 6 hours time).

POV
Tuesday, 10 April 2007 15:20:43

I think this may shead some light on my character. The Attack Bright orange light is closing in. I feel heat surrounding me, so hot my skin feels like it’s blistering. Wood is splintering and cracking, smoke is surrounding me making the hall seem longer and scarier. I hear screams; I can’t tell if they are close or far away. I try to follow them, find them, help them but the heat gets worse when I do. The smoke invades my eyes and lungs. Finally I succumb, choking on the smoke and falling to the ground. I try to clear my lungs with a scream. The room is too dark and cold, compared to the world I was just thrust out of. The scream dies on my lips as I sit up and try to catch my breath. I look around, trying to center myself but I can’t. I don’t know where I am. I feel my arms for the burns I feel should be there, but I can’t find them. Panic starts to take me. I hear whispers all around me, but I can’t find their source. I can’t remember anything, how I got here or where here is. The whispering gets louder and louder, more urgent, but I can’t get in through the panic. I fall out of bed and stumble to the bathroom. I stare at my face in the mirror, at the dark circles and haunted features. I turn on the faucet to wash my face. The moment the icy water touches my fingers I am over whelmed again. Images race through my mind, of black and men, mostly long since dead. A new one takes prominence, his evil ripping into my mind. I fall to the ground and gripe my knees, only one thing in my mind. I’m crazy, I’m crazy none of this is real, it can’t be. I grab at my head, knotting my hair in my hands, pulling on it. I feel something inhuman try and over take me, I try to fight it, try to remain human, but I don’t know why. I claw at the ground and my skin as I fight the images and the animal force. Suddenly clearer in my mind I hear a beast telling me to calm down, we have to go on a hunt. I feel other presences, female, and suddenly I remember how I got here and what happened. I am flooded with memories, the lives, deaths, and feelings of my friends. As I snap back to myself, my life comes back and it all feels solid and real again. I remain on the hard cold ground, breathing rapidly, feeling out of control and lost, as every continues to equal out.

Dunno how to fly this thing...
Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:04:53

I've been a member here for nearly a month now and I only just noticed this firefly blog thing. Yes, fear my amazing skills. Why, I could probably overturn a truck with my sense of observation alone! Anyway, I have a livejournal already, but o0o0o0oo firefly blog! That makes this so much more special-er! Still don't know how this is gonna look when I'm done, nor who is even going to read this (is this even public?) but even if this is never seen by anyone except me, I might as well jot down how I discovered my current unhealthy obsession. Back in like, 9th grade or something, my friend Chris told me about this show about "space cowboys" he was currently addicted to, that was getting cancelled. I called him a dork and galloped around him singing that *NSYNC song Space Cowboys because I was so clever in 9th grade. Like, a genius, really. And then, at the end of February 2007, I bought a buzz lightyear toy off eBay for my baby cousin. Few weeks later, I got one of those annoying emails like "Hot eBay Picks for You!!!!!" You know, the ones where they guess your personality based off what you buy and shove related items into your inbox and tells you to buy them. So apparently Firefly is the type of thing a Toy Story fan would be into. Go figure. But yeah, I saw it and recalled Chris's disappointment at it being cancelled. I figured - I got 80 bucks for being hypnotized in a psychology experiment AND midterms were coming up. So why the hell not? I bought the complete series on DVD for like 8 bucks and watched the entire thing through in one weekend. The following weeks was spent scouring the net for people who were snagged into the obsession bear-trap that was Firefly. Thank the lord, I found a thriving fandom to sate my needs. Then I realized that all was not lost: a movie had been made 2 years earlier continuuing the series. And as it turned out, I've SEEN it already. I just didnt remember because my baby cousin - the one who fatefully asked for a Buzz Lightyear toy was being difficult and I couldn't really watch the whole thing. Funny the way life works out sometimes. And now, 2 months later, I've watched the series about 7 times through, watched the movie maybe 4 times, began a fanfiction that I'm posting on this site and fanfiction.net right now, and bought the comic book off eBay, because it turned up in another "BUY THIS YOU'LL LIKE IT!!" email. In conclusion...DAMN YOU, FOX! DAMN YOUUUUU!!! :-D!!

MSG
got another one
Tuesday, 10 April 2007 18:14:50

Made one of our school counselors watch Serenity and he's asked for ( and been given ) the series. Thus another browncoat is formed:) Also listening to the Firefly soundtrack...is it pitiful that the opening theme has the power to make me smile no matter what else is going on? I just spent 5 minutes scrubbing frosting off my shirt as I apparently bonked my chest into the doughnuts as I carried them in...argh so sick of the natural shelf getting in my way. I have just realized how insane and rambling this is, but oh well, by now you all know me and all..

Aahh... A Mighty Thorn comes to an end...
Wednesday, 11 April 2007 02:10:47

Just wanted to send out a big 'thank you" to anyone and everyone who's been reading my little screenplay. I am asking with a huge "please" for any and all closing comments or criticisms. I loved writing this story and would like to hear what everyone thought of it as a whole. Again, many thanks for your time and energy. "Oh, I'm gonna go to the special Hell." Rob O.

Rainy Days & Birthdays
Wednesday, 11 April 2007 06:16:13

Hats off to another year - in light of my recent birthday (and the last one before the dreaded 3-0), I felt I should take a moment to wax poetic about the state of my life and where I'm heading, maybe even spend a bit of time wallowing in self-pity over my lack of relationships and even more disturbing lack of a social life ... ... And then I thought

Life on Mars
Wednesday, 11 April 2007 06:59:15

Well, it finished last night. I won't say what happened but it was brilliant. And it had me in tears for the half the programme. I think that was mostly due to it being the end rather than the episode being sad. Anyway that's all I'm going to say. Ok, so now I'm going to give a list of books/TV/Films that make me cry, cos I'm in that sort of mood. 1. The return of the King (book and film) 2. The Ghost Road- the last in the Regeneration Trilogy by Pat Barker. The end had me in tears. 3. Several episodes of Neighbours. It may be sunny, Australian corniness but they sure do know how to tug at the heartstrings. 4. Let him have it- The bit where Christopher Eccleston died. Ok that's all for now TTFN Jennifer -x-

Back Stories approacheth
Wednesday, 11 April 2007 15:43:39

To get things in my fic-world moving, I have split Back Stories into 3 books. The first book (~13 long chapters) is very nearly done, and I will begin posting it after I finish re-posting Easy Tickets on LiveJournal. This will be in roughly a month. There will be breaks between the books, because I haven't written the third one at all. But at least I'll get something up, finally!!

Trees 1, Tree Service Men- nada
Wednesday, 11 April 2007 17:09:40

Also posted on myspace: OK, So Ivan and Katrina whooped my yard something good. We lost a total of 5 trees to actual falling, and another 3 or 4 to shock. Anyway, I have 2 trees in the front of my house that have been slowly dieing over the last couple of years. Since the Ahole moved out really. Every once in a while a chunk of bark or a limb or two will fall off. Even more often a man will appear at my house on a Saturday morning early (a different one each time) and these men will proceed to explain to me - because the size of my breast indicates my IQ or lack of it - that my trees are dead and need to be cut down and they would do it for me cheap. At first I would respond politely and explain that yes I knew they were dead, but due to divorce blah blah blah. Well after a few times I started to get really irritated, I mean really - WHAT? MY TREE IS DEAD? OH MY GOD? ARE YOU SURE? REALLY? IS THAT WHAT THE PILE OF BARK MEANS? IS THAT WHY THE PINE NEEDLES HAVE GONE ALL BROWN? IS THAT WHY THE LIMBS KEEP THROWING THEMSELVES ON THE GROUND? REALLY???? DO YA THINK??????? Recently I have been answering the door with a smile saying to them (before they could speak) Yes, I know they are dead, and I am sure you could cut them down for cheap, but unless "cheap" means you will do it for free, cut it up, haul it away and bring ME a soda, then I am afraid I can't afford it. Then I would calmly close the door. Well Mother Nature done took care of the me. Last night a freak storm came through and knocked one down. Luckily #'s 1, 2 and borrowed girl were out, so the cars were safe. Anyway, I got home from work, saw the mess and yelled YES! Now all we have to do is take down the other one and I will once again be able to sleep in on Saturdays. Thank you mother nature, you were my only hope! Giggle Snort.

My Visit to the Grindhouse
Wednesday, 11 April 2007 18:16:50

Doing a review for a movie like Grindhouse is tricky business. Not only is it two different films by two different (but equally competent) directors, but it's also a complete movie-going experience. So I'm going to go ahead and make my broad generalization first. Here goes... Grindhouse is the most balls-out, audaciously kickass movie experience you'll ever see in a multiplex. How's that? With Grindhouse, it seems like Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino are offering up conflicting theses on what a Grindhouse movie is. Rodriguez's Planet Terror is a wacked-out zombie flick with every zombie trope thrown in and ratcheted up to full-9. The result is more of a parody of what the Grindhouse used to stand for. Tarantino flat out delivers a bona fide Grindhouse flick with Death Proof. His is very much in the vein of Duel and Death Race 2000. To start off, let's look at Robert Rodriguez's Planet Terror, the first of the Grindhouse double feature. As stated before, Planet Terror is a zombie film of the highest order. Every zombie film ever made holds some kind of influence over Planet Terror. Night of the Living Dead, Return of the Living Dead, Dead Alive, Zombie Flesh Eaters, and a hundred flicks even I'm probably not aware of, they're all represented here. Planet Terror follows the formula to a T. But what makes this film stand out is everything that's blown completely out of proportion. Dozens of protagonists, equally numerous villians, hundreds upon hundreds of zombies, needless explosions at every turn, and all that's before mentioning El Wray (Freddy Rodriguez) and Cherry Darling (Rose McGowan), two of the coolest characters ever seen in a zombie flick. It's clear that the majority of Grindhouse's budget went to Planet Terror. Pyrotechnics, elaborate makeup and gore effects, and an enormous cast of B-list mainstays. And Rodriguez adds all those flourishes to make the film seem 'authentic'. Burning the film stock, scratching the film, the missing reel (which is the film's single greatest joke), this is the spectacle that the promotions are pushing, and it's totally worth it. If Planet Terror had been its own film, your money would still be well spent. I did, however, get the feeling that people were taking the film seriously, and that's not the way to truly enjoy Planet Terror. This is meant as a comedy, and it's some of the most sadistic humor you'll ever laugh at. If you don't laugh at a helicopter taking out a crop of zombies, what DO you laugh at? Then there's the intermission. Three fake trailers, two of which I really enjoyed. Rob Zombie's "Werewolf Women of the S.S."? Greatest celebrity cameo ever. Edgar Wright's "Don't"? Greatest worst idea ever. Eli Roth's "Thanksgiving"? I get that it was a goof on Halloween, but that doesn't make it good. It actually kinda sucked. Also, at the beginning of the film, Rodriguez's "Machete" trailer just rocks. It's silly, violent, and made completely of awesome. Danny Trejo ought to star in movies like "Machete". Next come's Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof. I'm going to go ahead and say that I get what Tarantino's doing, I dig it, I appreciate it, but he set out to make a piece of crap, and he succeeded. Death Proof is a total Grindhouse film; it's got a cool hook, a good script, and a well placed cast. But it's intentionally disjointed, wildly uneven, and bizarrely repetitive. And even though Tarantino did all of this on purpose, think about what that means. He made a bad movie on purpose. Planet Terror is at least making fun of bad movies. Death Proof is an actual bad movie. But having said that, Tarantino does pull of a lot of really awesome tricks in Death Proof. The movie is basically split into two equal halves. The first half builds Stuntman Mike (Kurt Russell) and his penchant for murdering girls with his "100% death proof" car. And the crash that ends this first half is a behemoth to watch unfold. The second half of the film turns the tables on Mike when he sets his sights on another group of girls who aren'

Searching and Searching
Thursday, 12 April 2007 06:33:02

I have been looking everywhere for this great Jayne fic I once read where he picks up his old copy of the Tao te Ching. If anyone reads this and knows what I'm talking about, please send me news. Got a shiny new 'puter last week. I'm trying to personalize it with Firefly stuff. I've looked everywhere for sound bites from the show I can download. None found yet. I did get the first volume of the Firefly Companion book for my birthday.

Decisions, Decisions...
Thursday, 12 April 2007 12:34:57

So, I'm now all set up and ready to work. I just have to decide on what to do. I have few ideas, as usual. I just need to canvas a few opinions on what to write first. 1. A sequel to 'Zen', with some more convoluted relationship stuff in the M/R/I triangle? or 2. A good old-fashioned action piece, involving heists and space pirates? Of course, I could combine elements of 1 & 2, and maybe just write a quick stand-alone action fic for the time being... At some point, Jayne will visit Londinium, but that will be pretty much a purely Jayne and Ilargia story. I just have this image in my head of Londinium, a sort of melange of Pugin, Foster and Lang, with that 'Fifth Element'/'Blade Runner' vibe at street level, and Gibson-style arcologies rising above. Such a contrast to the dusty frontier worlds. It is, however, saner than some of the other things in there. That storyline will be a blast to write. Anyhow, back to work.

egad! a double post!

crazed femenist laughter
Thursday, 12 April 2007 15:11:09

I just wanna start by saying thank you to everyone who responded to my last blog. You were all right, I really need to get over him, and I think that you were the push I needed to make the right decision and move on. Thank you. Anyway, I have moved on now, and I'm pretty sure that there are no more lingering feelings, or anything, I am determined to keep this relationship firmly in the friend zone now, whether or not he eventually comes to his senses and decides he wants me back. This is a bonus cos less worrying about him = more time to concentrate on my gcses, which are now looming closer on the horizon than ever and getting scarier by the minute. And who knows, perhaps I'll meet my perfect guy in greece this summer, or maybe when I go to college in september. Wish me luck!

another year another tear (maybe)
Friday, 13 April 2007 03:01:37

I have been with firefly/serenity for a grand three years now and i think that having viewed it in the perspective of a aging adolescent its been quite a motivationl site. The universe is massive and has been unfolded many times in my mind through the eyes of the nine people abord serenity and i like it having a place in my mind and my heart. It has given me hope and showed me that the world can be gritty and filled with people that want to control other people just for the sake of having a little ant farm of their own but that the world will always have a place for everyone honest or sinner. I think thats the real reason that i continue to watch the show, because it never fails to remind me of the good things about life that everyone can obtain without riches and money. I think that thing is a family bound by love. This family doesnt need to be related to be a family such as the crew of serenity to have love for each other i think a family is just a group of people that love each other and would do anything for eachother. So this is my salute to another year i have gone with the good graces of serenity

T-shirts

I've been searching, but lots of sites have been shut down :-( (lol I have an exam in 15 minutes and I'm sitting here thinking about firefly t-shirts) Muchas gracias!

Fanvid Alert!
Saturday, 14 April 2007 02:02:56

After months of fruitless search, I finally ran across The Tragically Hip's new album last week. After several listenings, heh-heh-ho...talk about your vid fodder!! The second song on the CD is just plastered with Mal and Inara. The fifth one - a River runs through it. So if I ever find a good place to host vids, keep your eyes peeled!

Now THAT was creepifying

Excellent Day! I Met Ron Glass!
Saturday, 14 April 2007 13:40:25

I'm still buzzing from SupaNova in Brisbane today. I now have a beautiful signed photo of the good Shepherd which will be framed tomorrow and then will hang proudly above my desk. I had to spend 6 hours in my not-so-comfortable little car to do it, but it was worth it! It was a pleasure to meet him and speak with him for a few minutes and then afterwards listen to him 'charm' the audience in Brisbane. I have some pics which I'll try and post tomorrow. I have to say that it was also fun to listen to Aaron Douglas ('Chief'-BSG) earlier in the day, as he was very entertaining. (I also scored a Firefly DVD boxed-set for only $33AU...Yeah!) A good, good day. *sigh* Cheers, Happy Art ;)

This is a pic of me and Reece (I'm not going to bombard the site with baby pics, honestly)

As previous mentioned, but worth repeating:
Sunday, 15 April 2007 00:21:14

There is a chance that chapter 51 will go up this week before next Sunday (if so, chapter 52 will go up on Sunday). It's writing itself, which is always good, but I do have to complete a draft of my MA thesis by Wednesday afternoon Zulu Time, so we'll see.

The results of my first FF party and why I am so ruttin' tickled right now!
Sunday, 15 April 2007 00:33:04

Last night, I had my first Firefly party. A couple of my friends have seen the show and love it, but many others hadn't and didn't understand our inside jokes when we referenced the show. So, I did what ever good browncoat does and had a viewing party! It went pretty well! About twelve people showed up and they all loved it! In the middle of showing the Serenity Pilot, someone asked the inevitable question, "Why was this show cancelled?" I replied, "Because (insert that network's name here) doesn't know how to manage television." We also watched The Train Job and Bushwhacked. If we all didn't have places to be this morning, I think we would have been eager to keep watching more. I told everyone that they can buy the BDS at Target for about $20. There is definitely going to be a Firefly Party, Part 2! ---------------------------------------------------- Well, I found a surprise when I opened my browser a few minutes ago and found Nathan Fillion staring back at me! Yahoo has several clips of Drive up on their web page, and I watched some of them. I fell out of my seat when opened the clip for the "exclusive first four minutes of Drive". The first scene has Alex (Nathan) being interviewed by a Voice. I like this Voice, the way it goes out. It has a good design! I could hear this Voice saying, "Well... here I am." Yes, folks. This voice belongs to Richard Books who played Jubal Early in Objects in Space! I love that the last time Nathan and Richard appeared on the same screen was the last episode of Firefly! There is a certain justice to it! Thank you, Tim!

Everybody's got somebody....
Sunday, 15 April 2007 01:04:17

Even as I was posting in the picture thread this morning I heard my text-message alert going off. An old college buddy - a girl I worked with at the bus service, and had a severe crush on for a few years - had sent me a picture that I couldn't check while my gorram phone was in roaming mode. So I checked it again while hanging out at Panera and making that BDTY present for PhoenixRose (which, PR, I do hope you've seen by now ). Well, this old college buddy has been seeing a mutual friend/co-worker for a little over a year. He's a very good dude. I got along with him well enough, and it ain't hard to suss out why they got together - they've so much in common that I was surprised they didn't get together a long time before they did. Well, anyway: The upshot of it is, I should have seen that picture long before I viewed it. Because they're engaged. I keep telling myself not to be disappointed. As I say, I crushed on this girl for years: she was the only girl I ever worked up the nerve to ask out, which ended up a complete flop, along with my subsequent attempts to make it up to her. Our "friendship" was, at best, rockier than shoal waters until I finally stopped talking to her when she got a steady guy. Long story short: years elapsed, I met somebody as well, found something I'd been looking for since the year of the flood, and at last found my way clear to forgiving her all that heartache. I'm very grateful that we picked up the pieces and became friends again. So I keep saying, Don't be disappointed. She's happy, she should be happy, she'll still be happy years and decades from now, and that's what matters. But

Waiting For Inspiration...
Sunday, 15 April 2007 01:43:29

So...I was going fine and writing this Waiting series and I even have the start of the fourth piece...but it keeps stalling out. So, this is just to try and let everyone know that...um...I'm working on it. Hopefully, there will be a fourth piece and it will make people smile and sigh with contentment. But I'm...waiting. (that sounds so corny...how could i write that? i'm disowning myself...) Anyway, HUGE thanks to Platonist, Ambodell, EmpireX, epm0001, and anyone else who's stuck with me through this series... THANKS, PEOPLE!

I Hate Birds

With their bloody incessant tweeting outside my window at 4am. If I had a gun, I would quite happily shoot them. Until then I will happily plot their deaths in my sleep-deprived mind. Roll on bloody winter.

One year Anniversary: Yay.

Dear fellow Browncoats, Just to let you all know first hand. Hi. My name is Superfluous. Obviously that’s not my real name; although it would be really cool if it was (have it on a nametag perhaps). This is technically my first time ‘blogging’ by the way, so… be gentle. These days, I spend allot of time thinking about the hereafter… I go somewhere to get something and then wonder why I’m here after. About a year ago, I was looking for something. Not entirely sure why. And it was really hard to find. But I tracked it down and now I’m really glad I found it. What I found was ‘Serenity’ the DVD. I watched the movie and fell in love. Then I bought the show. I hated it (kidding). It was interesting; it was provocative; it was original and I was hooked. Soon afterwards, I took it upon myself to find anything about the show (anything). The cast, the stories, the fan art/fiction, whatever took my fancy. I looked and I looked. And eventually, I found this site; in which I found genuine McCoy Browncoats. And as it turns out, I’ve been here ever since. Apparently for 1-year anniversaries, there’s a gift involved (either something paper or a clock). Seeing which this is the Internet, that’s not really an option. Sorry. But I have some good news though. You may (or may not know me) for my Art on this site (hope you all like what I’ve made so far). If it interests anyone to know; soon I will be posting a ‘series’ of animated pics (based on the show). Its half animation / half text, but it should be excellent when completed. Also, I am writing my first ever fanfic. It’s going slowly, and it will probably be finished in 2009. If I’m lucky. So that’s all I really have to say. One year ago: I discovered Firefly. I joined this site and became a Browncoat. Thanks.

A Year On
Sunday, 15 April 2007 15:05:38

It has been just over a year since I posted my last log and a heck of a lot has happened since then for me. For one, there was the breakup with my long term girlfriend, and also the getting of my new girlfriend. I am now in university studying journalism but still spreading the message of the BDS and the BDM. Got many people into it. What do I want to see this year? I think it's gonna be the same as all of you, relighting the firefly.

I am SO SORRY
Sunday, 15 April 2007 18:46:56

Ok folks for the 4 people who haven't been exposed to the disgusting pic...ignore this Everyone else...I am so sorry. I will never ever hotlink again!!! I appologize to anyone who saw that image and I and my husband have gone through and removed it everywhere we found it. ( which took hours) I have definitely learned my lesson and will only use photobucket from now on. Again I am truly sorry for what happened and I appreciate all of you who took the time to let me know that this had happened. If you replied to me with quote and copied my sig, I ask that you delete it immediately even if it looks like a cat pic, it shows up as porn for some and not for others. I am so very sorry for all this trouble. Thanks again all:)

New Mal/Inara Fic
Sunday, 15 April 2007 21:40:21

I just posted my second Mal/Inara fic. It's a sequel to Plan A Never Works. I misidentified it in the AN. Its been a while since I saw it. Mal and Inara wake up on the couch together the night after indulging in a lot of Kaylee's brew. All I'll say is misunderstanding and fun ensues.

Hmmmm

Just wanted to say a great big thanks! To everyone who takes the time to read my stories and an especially big thanks to those who comment! I love hearing what you think, and all suggestions, comments and questions are welcomed, so bring them on! Oh and remember that I am a great big goofball, so take that into consideration! Thanks again. MerryWyn (Merry when I want to be!)

Probably the one and only.
Monday, 16 April 2007 07:17:07

I was devistated when Buffy ended, i had literally grown up on the show and felt like a part of myself was dying. I got over it. Then i was frustrated and pissed off that they cancelled Angel, that and Joss seemed to enjoy killing off female characters. I got over that also, i also understood that it was time for these two shows to finsih. (BTW Season 8 Buffy in comic book form, still getting used to reading comics but its generally going good.) Both of my favourite Tv shows had dissapeared and i was left with a void to fill. So i wondered into a dvd store and saw a box set that i wasn't really interested in sitting on the counter. I had never seen this show before but the GIANT 'JOSS WHEDON's' across the top lured me in. I caved and forked out $70, came home and began watching Firefly. I watched the pilot, the entire pilot and was stunned. The man had done it again, created another beautiful world and fantastic characters to immediately fall head over heels for. After the few hours in a row it took me to watch the entire series in one go, i screamed at my Tv because there wasn't going to be anymore Firefly. Ever. I (apparently being the nerd i now am) followed the crazy people into internet land and waited, patiently for word of a movie being made, for word of Serenity's release date, for word of the release of the Serenity's trailer online, and finally for the day when Serenity hit the movie screens. I saw it twice, once in the morning and once in the evening. Some questions were answered but not enough to satisfy me, this world was not done. It was not cookies (so to speak). I understand how unlikely it is to have the series picked up again, and maybe can hope for another movie, but i would prefer a series. You can get to know the characters better and there is much more of a storyline. I'm explaining this all to you because thats what i am going to try an do. Start 'Serenity the Series.' In script form as though it were going to be on tv. I am going to try and stay as true to Joss as i can, and after deeply watching Buffy, Angel, Firefly and anything else i can get my hands on of Joss's hopefully i will be able to write just as entrancingly annoying storylines for these characters. I hope you all enjoy my Serenity series. Leaving now Divine

So far, being nineteen...
Monday, 16 April 2007 10:14:57

... is exactly the same as being eighteen. Except with a new digital camera. And an umbrella. And with some money with which I may or may not buy Brian's Song, with Sean Maher. 'Cos he's just all kinds of hot. Here's hoping my twentieth year on this planet is more fruitful than the nineteen behind me. Here's to getting dumped less, getting drunk more, passing my exams, getting a degree, and then marrying someone rich, hot and famous so I can laze around for the rest of my life. xxxxxx

Creative Juices
Monday, 16 April 2007 11:07:36

Mine seem to be flowing again, after a lengthy hiatus :-) I recently had an idea for another fic, and I was up pretty much all of last night writing it - I have a feeling I'm going to regret only getting 3 and a half hours sleep later on, but hey, it'll be worth it when it's done *long pause* Right? It's not finished yet but it's finally getting somewhere, which is the main thing. And I'm just glad to be working on something new. You ever get that feeling when you really, REALLY want to write, but you lack the imagination and ideas to do so? Yeah, I suffer from that quite frequently, so it's nice to be on the other side for once! Anyway, right now I'm off to meet some old friends for lunch, so I'll get back to the drawing board later. Hope your Mondays aren't too Monday-like! Sadia :-)

Doomed view of Earth-that-is
Monday, 16 April 2007 17:42:04

Earth-that-is is safe from nuclear war for as long as we do not have a self sustaining colony somewhere else. This rock of ours is doomed. It will be destroyed by nuclear war, make no mistake. It is however unlikely to occur within our lifetime, if for no other reason than that we have nowhere else to go. There is no shortage of crazy/misguided/desperate people willing to 'push the button', but so far none of them have more than a handful of nukes, and they know all the world is watching them, ready to glass their little bit of the globe should they ever disconnect from reality far enough to use them. Noone is willing to risk the entire human race over anything (Perhaps a few are, but they haven't figured out how to start a global conflagration yet). The equation changes once there is a self sustaining colony somewhere (that somewhere may be a ship, station, asteroid, moon, planet, this solar system, interstellar space, another solar system, what the frak ever. It just has to be big enough to indefinitely sustain a genetically viable population.). Whomever started the colony may now believe themself to be able to 'win' a nuclear war, because 'their' people will survive. Earth is doomed. Study hard, pass on what you learn, do what you can to get your descendants off this rock. Don't kid yourself. Nuclear warheads are far too good at what they do to ever be gotten rid of. In terms of dollars per assured death, nothing compares. The bigger problem is this: Once there aren't enough nukes to ensure the complete destruction of the planet and all life on it, someone will think, "I can survive this, therefore it is a viable option." The number of nukes may be reduced (to say... 2x complete planetary destruction per armed country), but they wil never go away, and someday they will be used.

My 76th Battalion Uniform update
Monday, 16 April 2007 21:42:53

Boots for Daisy (my sister) just got here today from Artcat. Now we'll match. They're the Sears boots with the laces and buckled flap above the ankle, a little on the dark side, but since there will be a good handful of us wearing the same identical boots I'm not too worried. Striped grosgrain from ebay got here faster than my Sharpe's Rifles DVDs that had been ordered a week previous. Will pick up some brown cloth dye while shopping later this week and begin soaking it. Next I'll need the pants to put them on! Picked up a sidearm at Walmart (cost: $10): Sig Sauer P228 9mm airsoft pistol. It's got clear plastic on the muzzle and trigger guard which I'm hoping to coat with some paint. Tristan's offered some suggestions on how to paint it, so we'll see how it turns out. If it works well enough and fits the holster from Mircea, I'll be picking up another one for Daisy. It's got a nice weight to it for being plastic (especially in the grip) and not too heavy like it would be if it were metal. Expecting in the mail: Unit crests To purchase: Dye for grosgrain Paint for sidearm Material for scarf Pants Suspenders Shirt Leather dye for belt

Scheduling Update, the second
Tuesday, 17 April 2007 10:04:10

Chapter 51 has gone up; what was originally intended to be chapters 52 and 53 has morphed into one chapter which will go up at the latest on Sunday evening - though there is a chance that the new chap 52 it will be up before then - if that's the case, then the new chap 53, the final chapter, will go up on Sunday evening. The work in progress is now a work in conclusion. Thank you to everyone who supported this, or me in writing this.

I'm going to France!
Tuesday, 17 April 2007 11:38:29

Just found out yesterday that I'm going to Paris for the summer! I'm not sure if I'll be able to get internet where I'm staying but I'll bring my laptop so we can hopefully keep with the chat. I'm super psyched for this trip. My parents are going on their aniversary so I'm going with my grandparents. We'll spend some time in Paris and some on this little mansion that one of my grandparents' friends is letting us use on Corsica (little island between France and Italy). Squee! I can't wait :)

The funny things people say Part 2
Tuesday, 17 April 2007 11:44:54

Here is the next part of funny things people say. John: ooh chocolate mousses. What flavour are they? Andrew: (about his cousin), Maybe he has columbian flu from the devil's dandruff? John: His ears are the only ones big enough to fit a £2 coin in. John: remember what we used to do in the toilets with a handryer? John (to Blakey): You could look like Tom Cruise. If he were a retarded monkey. Mam: I'll polish my doofa today Andrew C: It's a good job I'd finished that or you'd have two teacups for ears Me: He already has two teacups for ears John: More like satellite dishes Mam (Instead of My Chemical Romance): The Chemical Reaction Al: I have the most prominent nipples. I could rival a few women Al: I was in the army until I became a full time lesbian. Andrew C: has the homoerotic moment ended? Me: It was more about Al wishing he were a lesbian Al: You can touch my nipples if you want Karl: What size is yours? Karl: It'll work if you're as dirty minded as me ruh-hur-hur-hur-hur-hurr (that is how Karl spelt his dirty laugh) Al: Out of that Kronenburg handle thingy John: Sometimes you just get to the point where you don't feel like drinking Al: Do you? John (about Casino Roylae): It's like James Bond, only good. John (about Peet): He's like the Marquis de Blackhall Andrew: I do hope these CDs are edible Dad: If it were upside down then everyone would fall off Andrew B: Well what was Big Bird? That's right, a big homosexual bird. Me: What is paper? thick card Andrew C: Don't lose him. If we lose him, there'll be trouble Andrew C: Curiosity killed the cat Me: No, curiosity made a gaydar profile. More later TTFN Jennifer -x-

Five shows they could have taken off the air instead
Tuesday, 17 April 2007 15:26:09

Inspired by the list of ten good shows that were canselled, I have made a list of five shows that take up unnesessary time and space on the small screen. These are my oppinions and its not my intent to offend anyone. That said, here it is; the list of 5 Shows They Could Have Taken Off The Air Instead 1.7th Heaven This is a show that makes me truly sick when I on occation watch it (cause its nothing else on). Not because the people are religious or anything, I got nothing against religious people per se. But this is the show that tells kids and their parents that if a kid listens to rap he (most probably a he) will end up in jail for rape!! I am allways speachless after a 7th Heaven episode... theres just nothing to say. The anger over this almost fundamentalist christian indoctrination attemt comes later... like now. Why is this show running into eternety and Firefly not?? 2.Lost I enjoyed the first season (like the rest of the world). But then something happend. The writers got lost in their own heads it seems. Im all for strangeness and polarbears on tropical islands, but its not fun anymore. Sometimes people just aim too high I guess. But why is Lost given a chanse even after it became dull when Carnivale got canselled just when it started to become truly interesting? 3.NCIS This is just no good. Stereotyped and kinda creepy characters (Geeky goth girl?? COME ON!) A show that might have worked as a parody, and at first I thought it was... but no. It tries hard to be though and ironic and funny, but fails miserably. If you want a show from a military milieu watch the Unit, if you want a crime show watch CSI or even Criminal Minds (also geeky girl with weird hair), better actors, better scripts in all of these. Why make room for NCIS when there was no room for Dead Like Me? 4.24 It was once fun and full of suspence. It was kina like what I imagined Die Hard would have been as a tv- show. But just as Bruce Willis refuses to stop making these movies, Southerland Jr. returns time and time again. We got it Jack Bauer! We have learned that you are the most bad ass freedom fighter. We know now that the world (read USA) is not safe without you and you are the only one that can save us all (read americans). We know that torture is allright when performed by an american and when the situation is right (when theres a bit too much stress). Take a break man. Go on a well deserved holiday. Sleep for 24 hours. I want the tough guys in Deadwood back! 5.NYPD Blue This series annoys me to no end. The politics of this show is appaling. Because its supposed to be realistic the cops behaves like bastards in the interogation room (or whatever they call it). The cops are always right, the ones that opposes this behavior is either criminals, beurocrats or politicians only afraid of the bad publicity this will get or they just plain dont know what theyre talking about. Oh its so damn hard to be a cop, the bad guys always gets away... bla bla bla. Thats no excuse for normalizing violent police behavior. When it comes to depicting the imperfections of the justice system I would rather have 12 seasons of Arrested Development.

I'm not usually mean, but...
Tuesday, 17 April 2007 17:33:34

I'm probably giving too much attention to this, but based on some very current reading on this site, some folk need to never, EVER write again. Not Firefly fic, not general fic, not anything. Ever. Next time the urge enters their mind, they need to let it go. Put the pen down and walk away. I think it's pretty clear to whom I'm referring. No more writing ever again. Rob O.

Yay for Silver Birch!
Tuesday, 17 April 2007 17:56:35

ooo, I have had such a blooming marvellous weekend! On top of a pay rise at work (ok, only 20p an hour, but still... my first pay rise, no longer on minimum wage) I also won £58 on the Grand National! (hence the yay for Silver Birch - the horse that won). Now before you jump to conclusions, no, I do not gamble, but its a tradition in my family to each put £1 on a horse in the National, and this year I got lucky (very, since I pick the horse by the colours the jockeys wear. This one was lack with blue stars, so it was clearly going to be the best  So I can now pay for the beautiful bright red shoes I want for prom that match my cheongsam so perfectly, and actually cost more than the dress (I'm doing the whole thing on a shoestring, seen as I have to pay for everything myself). I know its a bit early, but I have to buy them now, so I can learn to walk in them - they have huge heels, and I don't want to fall flat on my pigu. I have extreme difficulty with anything over about an inch. I wore my glasses to school for the first time today, and I had so many people ask me "when did you start wearing glasses?" including my ex, and of course it was only after I had walked away that I realised that I should have said: "I've always worn glasses. Thanks for noticing." to him  Its so weird seeing everything in focus, but I still don't like wearing them, even if they do make me look slightly less of a dumb blonde. Fortunately, the problem with my eyes isn't too bad, and might not even be permanent, so no ridiculously expensive designer glasses for me  not that that is so much of a problem, anti-fashion person that I am! Watched V for Vendetta at the weekend.. what a film! That, 300 and Pan's Labyrinth are by far the best films I have seen recently, though I am determined to read the graphic novel of V for Vendetta, there were so many things that the film left unanswered. And was I the only one yelling "take the mask off!!" at the end? I think not.

A Big Damn Hero
Tuesday, 17 April 2007 18:03:14

I'd planned to write something here about strong women characters, and I guess I'll do that later in the week, but instead today I decided to blog about Liviu Librescu. Liviu Librescu was, by all accounts, a talented engineer, a gifted educator and a brilliant scientific writer. Unfortunately, these great achievements are likely to be eclipsed by his death, because Liviu Librescu is one of the 32 people who were murdered at Virginia Tech early yesterday morning. I don't know the guy. I never met him. I don't know anyone who was taught by him and I don't know squat about engineering. I'd never even heard of Liviu Librescu until I came across his name on a news website, even though he was apparently the most published lecturer in one of America's most prestigious universities. The main reason I'm mentioning him in my blog is that I came across the story of his life, and found out that Librescu had already lived through an even more horrendous tragedy. Liviu Librescu was a holocaust survivor. Liviu Librescu was born in Romania in 1931. When Romania fell under nazi control, he and his family were interred in a ghetto in the city of Foscani. More than 280,000 Jews died in Romania alone during the awful days of the Second World War, but Librescu survived. After the war, he became an engineer and had a successful career with Romania's aerospace agency. But he refused to swear allegiance to the communist regime and was fired when he asked permission to move to Israel. It took years for him to obtain permission to leave the country, but he and his family finally emigrated to Israel in 1978. Librescu came to Virginia Tech on a sabbatical year, and wound up lecturing at the university for more than twenty years. I doubt he ever expected to hear gunshots again, especially not in the university department in which he had received so much acclaim. But when he did hear gunfire that morning he didn't panic. Instead, the 76 year old man barricaded the door of his classroom, blocking it with his own body, and ordered his students to open the windows and jump to safety. And that was how he died. Although I was saddened to hear of the terrible tragedy in Virginia Tech, I never expected to blog about it. After all, no one I know was touched by what happened, and I'm grateful for that. But when I stumbled across the story of Liviu Librescu I just had to write about him. Just to make sure others knew the story. So that maybe they could tell more people again. Because in one lifetime Liviu Librescu saw the very worst that humanity had to offer, and somehow he still found the courage to die showing us the best. Magnified and sanctified be the great name of God throughout the world which He hath created according to His will. May He establish His kingdom during the days of your life and during the life of all the house of Israel, speedily, yea, soon; and say ye, Amen. Mourner's Kaddish

An addendum to my previous rant...
Tuesday, 17 April 2007 21:50:43

I must apologize for my earlier rant, though I do not recant it. By current reading, I meant only one single fic that still remains on the "new" list. Normally, if I don't like a fic, I simply pass it by. And in my comments, I'm usually fair and supportive. I love writing, and I hold in high regard those who do as well. Firefly is very dear to my heart, as it is to most everyone on this site. When I see the filth I read earlier (incest in the title) it disgusts me. I apologize to anyone offended by my comment earlier. It was directed at a singular text. Suppose I should have narrowed it down then, but I thought my reference would do. For those doing serious writing, and even those just doing it for fun, I support you whole-heartedly, as you well know from my comments and messages. For those just looking to be disgusting, please share it with someone else. Rob O.

Family matters
Tuesday, 17 April 2007 23:18:19

Most of my family closest to my uncle don't get along with him, because we know what he's really about. He has the rest of my family fooled. But onto the current matter, my grandmother had open heart surgery almost two months ago. before she had the surgery she would do his laundry, and now he has her doing it again. We've all said something to my grandmother but she isn't listening. This is the first time that we know of that she's done it since her surgery, and if he has her do it again I gonna have to say something to him, but I don't know what to say. I don't mean to bother anyone but if you have any suggestions please let me know, I need a little help and since we're all friends here I thought you guys could help me. Thanks for all your help, here's what happened. I basically told him he's a lazy ass bitch who couldn't hold a job if his life depended on it, and of course he got pissed and a big fight ensued (Not a fist-fight, he got lucky there.). Grandma got pissed at me for saying something, so neither one is talking to me. Planning to have a sit-down with the whole family, I'll keep everyone posted on how it goes.

Update

I have more story its just not loading

More Story Part One
Wednesday, 18 April 2007 00:14:12

It wouldn't let me post it as a whole please read both parts this one first. The Other It’s been a week since I’ve been to that club and a week more since I last had an attack and went on a hunt. That’s two weeks of pretending to be normal, two weeks of quiet, two weeks ticking down. I know I am due for another attack, knowing the stress and doubt I put on myself is pushing me, but I ignore it. I just change for the night and climb between the cool sheets. I dry swallow an oblong blue pill, a half dose of a store bought sleep aid, like I do every night, to keep away dreams. Maybe I should have taken more, because the moment I lose consciousness I’m somewhere else. Bright orange light is closing in. I clean up my room and wash my face. I change for the outside world and quickly escape my rabidly inclosing room and start my hunt. I head out in a direction that feels right and set myself out. The streets and alleyways spread out before me as I stroll down them looking for my pray. The hour has emptied them for the night making the search harder, longer and more unsettling. I fear in the back of my mind that the sun will rise and wake before I find a mark, meaning I will have to kill with out the cover of night but in the spotlight of the sun in the faces of the normal people around me. I keep these thoughts in the back of my mind as I go from neighborhood to neighborhood. I finally catch a hint of him in a mixed up neighborhood. His aura reaches out down the street around corners letting me know he’s near but with give out his location. The dead office buildings and low rent apartments around lend hiding places making my hunt difficult but I thought I was up to it. The lack of cover means I have to be careful, I can’t blend in. As I start down the street a leap of joy fills my heart because I know this will be fun. The eerie silence of the street is interrupte

More Story Part Two
Wednesday, 18 April 2007 00:14:37

It wouldnt let me post it all in one piece please read both parts this on is second Cont.---- I point the body lying on the ground next to us. “He killed you, and I killed him. We have to go before the police find him and us, even if it won’t be for hours. We have to get you cleaned up and you need to lie down and decompress. I think you need to lie down and let your body adjust.” She stares at my kill and just nods her head. I grab her by the arm and help her up. Before I can lead her away she stops me. “Its all mixed up and fuzzy.” “What is?” “My head, it-its all mixed up, with thoughts and things. I don’t think they are all mine. Its fuzzy too, like I am in a fog.” She looks at me desperately for answers. My heart speeds up, because what she said sounds familiar. I remember feeling all that, twelve years ago. I take a deep breath and force a smile. “Don’t worry, it will clear up eventually.” I lead her back through the streets to my hotel room. Sometimes she stumbles but I quickly right her. She doesn’t say another word on the way, just lets me pull her along blindly through the streets. She doesn’t even raise an eyebrow when I open the door. I usher her straight to the bathroom to clean her up. I try to hide my blush as I help her undress, throwing the blood caked clothing in the corner so I can throw them away latter. First I examine the wound on her chest and right away I can tell its already healing itself. She will be whole again in a matter weeks maybe even days. I fill the tub next with warm water and bring her over to the tub. Since she is still in shock I bath her. To distract my wondering mind I memorize her physical characteristics. Her hair is a shoulder length and a light auburn-y brown, her eyes a deep shade of blue, she looks young too, my age maybe. She continues to stare in to space even as the water turns read. When I am done cleaning the dried blood off her I help her out and bandage her wound. When I turn to go get her something to sleep in she finally speaks. “Are you death?” she sounds like a lost child. I turn and smile at her. “Not in the way you are thinking.” “Am I really here, alive? Is this real?” “Yeah, yeah its real. You are here. Don’t worry, you’re safe.” “I have to go home.” She stood up and made to leave. I quickly grab her before she can get far. “No. It isn’t good for you to be alone right now. Besides you’re naked and your clothes are covered in blood.” I push her wet hair out of her eyes and stare into them, hating the fear and denial I see there. “Look, stare here tonight. Its dry and warm and I can make sure you’re ok. In the morning we can talk and figure things out. Is that ok?” She looks surprised and just nods her agreement. I quickly fish out an old shirt that doesn’t fit me and help get it on. It was a better fit on her than me, but not enough for me to worry about it being too tight to sleep in. I lead her over to the bed so she can lay down. She just stands there and stares at it. “Where will you sleep?” “I don’t know, next to you or the floor.” She still doesn’t move to lay down. “I-I don’t think I can sleep, not after… all this.” I go fill a glass with water and shake out three pills from my bottle. I return to her side and hand both over. “Here, a dose and a half of sleeping pills. It should put you to sleep and keep the dreams away. Trust me, you wanna sleep tonight. It will help you clear your mind.” She quickly takes the pills and lies down. It doesn’t take her long to drift off, and finally I am able to collect my thoughts. I just saw another girl die and come to life again. I cleaned and bandaged what should have been a fatal wound, and now a strange girl was sleeping in my bed. It took me a minute to realize two things once I let these thoughts play out. One I wasn’t alone anymore, I shared something with her. The second was must surprising. This girl who was sparkly blue when I first saw her wasn’t anymore, she wasn’t any color at all. I looked at her lying asleep and saw just the girl, nothing adding to the image, the

Any takers? Yes, I hsve decided my stories have been unbetad for long enough. I'm half way through a longer S/K fic, and I'm rather fond of it, so anyone who wants to read it over and make suggestions before I submit it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Consider this a test
Wednesday, 18 April 2007 15:54:14

OK, so it's been over a year since my last blog or thread post. Out of curiosity, how many of you missed me? How many of you even noticed I was gone? How many of you even remember who I am? Update for those who DO remember me: Job still rocks, wife and kid are great, still love Firefly and miss it like crazy, love Drive so far but am aware that the ax looms lightly above Tim Minear's head once again. Respond!

By the numbers
Wednesday, 18 April 2007 20:49:16

We sit as a nation, yet again shocked and horrified by another spree killing. Of the families of the victims, we can only imagine their pain and grief. My blog is not for them. I could never put together words sufficient to comfort them in any way. Except to say “I’m sorry”. My blog has to do with why we are continuously, consistently surprised by incidents like this. Somewhere Michael Moore is bellowing “I told you so!’ at his television set. CNN doesn’t hear him. Al Gore sits nearby and rolls his eyes; nobody really believes documentaries. Unless they’re about animals; Steve Irwin smiles. Do we really need to do the role call again?

On Writing
Thursday, 19 April 2007 02:48:03

I want to thank all the people that commented on my latest fic. I'm the first to admit that it wasn't perfect and needs much more work. Mal and Inara together are very hard to write. It seems that if you get one character the other suffers and vice versa. Add to that my relative inexperience at writing for an audience and the required snark and it's darn near impossible. I admit my first reaction was just to quit and not write any more. Fortunately, that emotion lasted about 5 seconds. My second reaction was to start a new story without the pesky twosome. No, not a good idea. I eventually decided that I will take the original fic and see if I can't improve it. And use your suggestions and comments as a guild It may be a while before you see a new better version but it will be there eventually.

Spot the Firefly! (Drive related)
Thursday, 19 April 2007 03:56:57

I've broken my FOX Network boycott to watch Drive. I have to say, it's another Tim Minear masterpiece! Though, because it is on FOX, I'm not going to be surprised if it gets cancelled. I might still cry, but I won't be shocked. Please God, don't let them cancel this show! I've always thought that Nathan looked sexier the more beat-up he looked. (The kind of beat-up look coming from the make up chair and not from a RL brawl!. Please see "War Stories" and BDM.) He's the kind of guy who can pull it off! So, when he had all that bruising and that big knot on his cheek, I was about to fall out of my chair... *eye glaze over as the mind wonders off, then snaps back into the present* And, then the chair went through the mirror and the car came into view!!! Oh... my... gosh! The truck Alex was driving was a sweet reminder of our beloved Serenity, but that car is just so friggin' sexy! I nearly died and went to heaven during the last five minutes on Monday night where they had that sequence of leaving all of the other cars in the dust on his way to Rome! And when he gave that smile that let us meet the real Alex, I think I actually did die! Again, very sexy! (Forgive me, guys. I'm reverting back to my 14-year-old fan-girl self here!) And since this is a post-Firefly Tim Minear production featuring the Captain, there are a ton of FF references, so from now on I'm playing "Spot the Firefly" every Monday night between 8:00-9:00 pm. For instance, the truck that was in the spirit of Serenity, Detective Ehrle played by Richard Brooks (aka-Jubal Early), "You don't want to meet the real Alex Tully!", etc. (Question: What if you do want to meet the real Alex??) All in all, its a great show. I'm really enjoying it!

Salvation in Space
Friday, 20 April 2007 19:43:37

Things just keep changing and growing. Wow. I read the last blog I wrote, all about how the Oberon got where it was. It’s grown and changed yet more still. We’re just a forum now – the cortex was beautiful, but my good friend and webhost is dealing with serious adult ADD, and is a lot less involved than he used to be. One the second ship’s crew, Nyiri, gave us permanent webspace, and now we’re moving forward again. Salvation is getting off the ground again. We had a few bumps, and two false starts, but the current mix is very good, and I think we've finally got a cohesive crew. Nyiri has been a HUGE help, and so has Dr. Danny. Amazing help. Danny brought in two new crew, and Ny got us set up with permanent webspace. Obie is starting it’s third full episode. We’ve had a two-hour pilot, and a one hour episode, technically, so far. We’re still wrapping up the last bits from the second episode, and I’ve opened two threads for the teaser before the credits on our third. Granted, posting, it takes so much longer to write an hour or so – and we do go into more detail. Our episodes would be hours long, I expect. But they’re GOOD. I’m really, really proud of our quality. There are scenes in there worthy of being in a real TV show. Characters that are as good or better than some TV shows on now! Everyone loved what Joss created, and we want to be a part of THAT, not just create our own version, but we want to feel like it’s still the show that Joss created. As a result, I’ve had to nix some ideas, control some wilder characters, and in the end, even remove some troublemakers. It’s a hard place to be, in charge of something like this. I feel it’s my job to keep us moving, keep us on track, and more importantly, keep us as good as we can be. There are some great ideas out there, some great characters, but they just don’t belong on the Obie. Doesn’t mean they aren’t good, or that their writers are bad, or anything like that. People don’t understand that. I know there are play-by-post people here on FFF.net, and on other boards I’ve seen (Storycrafter, for one), but their style rarely jives with mine. Everyone wants to be the star, everyone wants to be the center of attention. This isn’t a BAD thing, per se. I constantly see people get sidelined, ignored, posted right out of a story because other people ignore them, or only post with one person, or post more often than the other one can, so that they get completely left behind. I constantly see people get cutt of, run over, toes stepped on, all that sort of thing. And the worst part is that people doing it are NOT doing it on purpose – they’re just trying to have fun. It’s so typical of everything I see today – people are only thinking of themselves. They’re the star, and everyone around them is just an extra, an NPC, a prop, a tool to make their own story more “realistic”. This is how I see people treating each other on the road, in the store, at restaurants. People forget that everything going on inside them is going on inside their waitresses, their quickie mart cashiers, the other drivers on the road – and the other people in the story they’re dominating. I’m BLESSED to have the group I have now on the Obie. They care about each other, they welcome the new people and help them get involved, and they help them fit in. They make sure to mention the other people in a room, so everyone feels part of what’s going on. They wait to post until other people have had a chance to get involved, holding off replying until everyone in a room has spoken up – or has had a few days to do so if they wish. They even check with each other (“Did you want to post, or should I go ahead?”). We’re a real team – a real crew. Oberon AND Salvation.

Okey dokey, I'm feeling better now. Snow's all gone and it's up to almost 70F. We've started hacking away at the wild grapevine that is growing all over everything in the yard here. I spread 12 bags of cedar mulch at the old place to prettify it a little for the market. I love the smell of cedar! Uniform for the 76th's coming along nicely. I posted another one last night. It had been bubbling along for a while and I just had to get it out there and off my desktop. It reads a little choppy and kind of cryptic, but then again it probably should as the characters are all just about as confused as the rest of us. Something's trying to get itself wrote down and I'm not sure what it is yet. (As with creatures from the Dungeon Dimensions: we just have to wait and hope it's not the one with its winkle in the middle of its face.) Hope you enjoy it, and if you don't I hope the headache isn't too bad.

A Death...
Sunday, 22 April 2007 16:09:36

I recieved some crushing news less than two hours ago. A friend of mine has just passed away. Her name was Ayla, and she was dear to most she knew. This morning she was traveling from Orillia Ontario, to Oshawa Ontario, and was in a car crash. She was pronounced dead at 2:30 in the morning. Myself, her friends, her family all grieve today. To be honest, I really dont know what so say. How to honour her memory. 18 years old... It is really quite numbing. This is the first death that has really affected me personally. Now I understand the feeling Joss was trying to get across in Buffy's "The Body". Thoughts still come to mind that cause me to butst into tears. She will never feel the joy of marrage. She had only come into a place of true happiness, out of a place of horror and depression she resided in. She had only just graduated high school. Had her whole life ahead of her. Why do these things happen? I don't know. Why is there death? I don't know. Why would God allow such a thing? Such a beautiful, and wonderful woman, who has touched so many lives. I don't know. What I do know, that everything happens for a reason. That her death will influence and chance many lives for the better. And she is in a better place. ::In Memorium: Ayla Facey 1988-2007::

THE TRAGICALLY HIP!!!!!!!
Sunday, 22 April 2007 20:37:12

Formula for a Colossally Awesome Night: Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom + Yer Not the Ocean New Orleans is Sinking Fully Completely The Dire Wolf Nautical Disaster Family Band Bobcaygeon Pretend Wheat Kings The Drop-off At the Hundredth Meridian The Lonely End of the Rink (serious Mal/Inara tune there) Long Time Running Gift Shop Ahead By a Century In View Little Bones Thugs Rudie Can't Fail Locked In the Trunk of a Car + Gordon Downie not disappointing with his usual on-stage performance wilder than a caged animal... = BEST FREAKING HIP SHOW YET. Man, how I long for those guys to hit New England or upstate NY again soon. When I first discovered The Tragically Hip, I also discovered that yes, there is such a thing as intelligent rock and roll. Last night, however, what else did I discover? Inspiration. For as I was on my way to church this morning, I suddenly found myself thinking in such poetic terms as I haven't known for the past several months. Funniest thing, but I will bet you a crate of Vera-ammo that listening to 20-odd live Tragically Hip tunes - and Gordon Downie's Riverine rambling, both between and during the songs - booted my muse out of her bunk and aimed my own writer's eye back toward the air. Gotta 'scuse me now, I have something to contribute to the Hip Story Project. (Not to mention the BSR, sooner than I thought!) Who knew that a Hipsy evening could make everything that much shinier? Ah, but I almost forgot the shiniest part: there were at least two other Browncoats in attendance!! I wore my Serenity T-shirt just on the off chance. Saw one guy wearing a "Let's Be Bad Guys" shirt, but I didn't get a chance to talk to him. There was then one other fella who, while on his way off to get a drink, pointed straight at me and went, "GREAT SHIRT!" To which I naturally responded, "Shiny - let's be bad guys!" When he came back he asserted that there really should have been at least nine more episodes and/or another movie. Well, let no man say they ain't trying.... So. Three Browncoats at one Hip concert. What are the odds??

I'm sorry, there will be a delay. As Simon would say, "It's just not coming."

University rocks. Apart from the 'working' part...
Monday, 23 April 2007 09:54:35

The Easter holidays are officially over, as I have my first seminar today. I don't even know where it is, which could be bad. But never mind. Had to read some of Hamlet for it, so it's garenteed to be fun filled... not. It's great to be back in my lal' flat, and even better now that I actually have food. Food is good. It helps all situations. Still going pretty strong on my next fic - Job Satisfaction (and still need a beta, cough cough hint hint.) Of course progress is marred somewhat by the constant guilt that I should be revising. I'm all for putting in the work outside of lectures and lessons - that's why I've always done so well in my exams. But this module - Historical Linguistics - he hasn't taught us a godamn thing and for some reason I just can't find the motivation knowing I have to teach myself the entire module. I have just over a month, so I'd better buck up and stop writing fanfiction. AS IF. Oh dear god. I am so resitting. Hope everyone is shiny xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Weekend, dissertation and happy birthday Andrew
Monday, 23 April 2007 10:07:35

Hi there, Firstly, Happy Birthday to my friend Andrew. He's 21 today. Ok, so now onto the weekend. Well, it starts on Friday. To celebrate Andrew's birthday me, him and John went to Newcastle (and they had to do work). We started at the Crow's Nest and had food. That was fun. The we went to the Discovery museum because John and Andrew had to use the Tyne and Wear Archive Service. Andrew spent the entire way there making up a song about the TWAS to the tune of the old rugged cross. It was actually really funny. Anyway, while they did their work I went around the museum, playing with all the games and stuff. It was really fun. And there were three chav lads stuck in a lift. Now, that got me laughing. It was hilarious. After that we went to Durham, and had some more food. Then we came back to mine and watched this kid covering his friend in grass. Why? I have no clue, but it kept us amused. Saturday I was at the Cathedral again. That's always fun. I was talking to some German tourists. On the dissertation front (which from now on will only be referred as the dreaded 'd' word), i now have 5000 words. That's the introduction, and two chapters. I have one chapter and the conclusion to write. Of course it's probably all a complete load of bollocks. But, as long as it's passable bollocks, I don't really care. Term starts again this week, although I only have to be in on Friday afternoon. God, I can't believe I've nearly finished university. Only have one more exam on the 1st June and then I'll be finished. Hopefully I'll pass and have a degree. Then I'll have to get a job . Anyway that's all I have to write about TTFN Jennifer

Life is a Bitch!!
Monday, 23 April 2007 18:03:55

Not to be all gloom and doom but i'm afraid it is. For those of you who don't know me (which will be most of you) i'm generally a cheery sort of guy, albeit in a cynical, stubborn sort of way. But lately life has been getting me down. The final straw came earlier today when i discovered that this girl that i'm friends with (and who i also happen to have feelings for) has a boyfriend! And whats more i know the guy and he is the biggest div that i have ever met. Granted he's a nice bloke but he's just so god damn goofy. I know a lot of my misgivings are down to my blood boiling jealousy (with just a little melancholy thrown in)but the point still stands. And i was soooo close to asking her out as well. I suppose i shall just have to channel all of my love-lorn feelings into some angsty fanfics. Damn it all!

So...Where?
Monday, 23 April 2007 19:48:45

I'm leaving here, and I'm going there. There isn't home yet. Anyways, I've been there before, and it's pretty nice. I enjoyed it on the way in. If this sounds vague...good! It's supposed to. I can say that this prefaces a return. And that part comes soon. So, faster than Bejeweled can play a game of...well, you know...I'll be back!

ow, by dose...
Tuesday, 24 April 2007 02:11:04

Finally got around to having my nose re-pierced. The stud pulled through to the inside just before Christmas and I needed to let it finish healing. Then I got busy. So it took me... oh two months or so longer than it had to. That's twice I've been surprised at how much less it hurts than I expect it to.

hermitsrest - OC Character List
Tuesday, 24 April 2007 06:55:33

If you've just stepped in to Joss's 'Verse through my eyes, see my Log for a quick description of the main characters mentioned. In brackets will be the first story they appear in - hopefully with as few spoilers as possible - if you want to read more. Bane Pye - Munitions expert, particularly in EMP equipment. Hired out by Reynolds for a job and is then asked to sign on as crew (Series 1 - 1: Hun Dan). Like Mal and Zoe she fought in the war but did sabotage work blowing up Alliance facilities with her mother. She can conjure up an alias as sure as breath. She can also conjure up a bomb in the same way. Karl Jacobsson - In the wake of uncertainty after the BDM and a few hairy moments since, Mal hires Karl as an extra gun hand. Signed on to Serenity in November 2518, after Hun Dan. Skills: Gun-hand and muscle like Jayne. Criminal past like Jayne but also served time as well. You can imagine why they get on so well. Karl does think about the bigger picture more and after Ghosts in the Past, he has a major secret of his own revealed (Series 1 - 2: Humped). Tony Pye - Bane Pye's brother and Captain of the Rosalyn, the first Pye Eatings vessel since the war (Series 1 - 1: Hun Dan). Abe Fairly - Brilliant mechanic and former owner of Serenity before she was bought by Malcolm Reynolds (Series 1 - 12: One Careful Owner). Later gets a job as mechanic on the Rosalyn. Esperanza Pedrosa - Abe's adopted daughter and now the wife of one of our BDHs (Series 1 - 11: Reunions). James Dedham - former Alliance Lieutenant and then Colonel who has various illegal dealings on the side. A nasty piece of work who has a vengeful history with Bane Pye and keeps coming back like a bad smell (Series 1 - 3: Prairie Run). Hans Kifelder - Mayor of Munchen on Deutschland. His father is Mayor of Hannover and his mother (Berta) has a tendency to interfere in his life, which is why he lives in Munchen. He is with one of our BDHs (Series 1 - 9: Ich Liebe Dich) and comes up with the suggestion of buying the land that later becomes Gang Kou. Uri Kostova 'Koz' - long-standing acquaintance of Mal & Zoe and owner of Kostova Ship Repair on Boros (bought in the wake of the murder of the Sanchez Bros in the BDM). Gives Mal the occasional job, but is Serenity's favourite place for an overhaul (Series 1 - 3: Prairie Run). Spike - Kostova's first mate and expert mechanic and pilot. As protective towards Koz as Zoe is to Mal (Series 1 - 3: Prairie Run). Kaylee's family - Ray & Winnie Frye and their sons; Ray Jr, Lewis and Archie (Series 1 - 12: One Careful Owner) who live on Highgate. Jayne's family - Matt & Dee Cobb and their younger son, Matty - although now he is older he prefers Matt (Series 1 - 15: Jayne). They come from Muir. Ishmael - The son of one of our BDHs (Series 1 - 16: Return to Deutschland). Stan Togashi - Pilot on the Rosalyn. Takes very little seriously, living fast and playing hard. Another one to get involved with one of our BDHs (Series 1 - 1: Hun Dan). Mary Francis - Captured onto the slave ship near the same time as Corren Pye. She is from Lilac and has seen our BDHs at work first-hand, though she was just a child at the time (Series 1 - 18: Reavers Return). Pavel Wladek - Alliance Comms specialist, now at the rank of Colonel. Known as a boy scout to his colleagues. Works with Bane Pye to bring down James Dedham (Series 1 - 6: Wedding Blues). Monty Reynolds - Still around, though mainly specialising in weapons smuggling. His crew are called Rocky, Barstow and Eric, and are just as loyal as Mal's (Series 1 - 2: Humped). Sheydra - Inara's friend at the Companion House. Later, her family connections help one of the crew of Serenity out of some deep go se (Series 1 - 5: Ships in the Night). Laurence Hosier - deputy and friend of Pavel Wladek, who he considers a mentor (Series 1 - 8: Alliance vs Serenity). Hieronymous Dudge - ex-bounty

I had my baby
Tuesday, 24 April 2007 14:35:51

Well all I Had my baby... like 2 months ago. Now don't be sad, yes it took a while for me to get back and say hi. But life was created, i was busy. Or very very tired, depending on the day. Liam was born Feb 20th at 10:28pm. I had such high hopes that the whole process would go more quickly this time around... sadly it took about 4 more hours than with my first one. *sigh* He was my "little" guy at 8lbs even. (sam was 9lbs 3oz) He had some health issues in the beginning. Nothing life threatening, just a LOT of getting his blood drawn and dr appointments. but all is healthy now and he's sleeping pretty well most of the time... last night not so much. but MOST of the time.

Fic
Tuesday, 24 April 2007 22:56:24

Okay. Just to start this on a Firefly note, I have been working on the Fly/Who fic. Not very much, as I have to type some stuff up, I swear I've done it before, and I'm wary. But. I'm also working on some random fic in Firefly. The main point of this... however... *sigh* is my Whofic. Incidentally, I's a member over at www.whofic.com and... yeah. I've just started posting. So, those of you who follow it, look me up. I's Fizzix. Just like here. Just like the rest of the world. Have a Doomsday ending re-write I'm working on, some finicky wordplay, and if I play my cards right, I might cut my random regeneration fic-let fluff-ness to scratch. I've got one about Dalek OSes, in where a Dalek is run by various OSes. First installment's Windows 2000, based on the ep "Dalek", (suprise!), and should be coming up soon. And I hate dentistry. :blast: (Teh Dentists) I know, I'm a bad person. Smack me for neglecting Flyfic for a while later... I'm really thinking about Chapter eight (*laugh* I don't even have above four posted yet, do I?), but... need a plot eventually, else it's gonna end, 'n' I'm'a have to write another. Which I will. Back to my random Whovian plot bunnies ('cos, admit it, they're quite Gallifreyan biased), I have a game of Go Fish that I HAVE to write, with One-Ten, (running gags include the seal of Rassilon on the back of the cards, asking Seven if he's any aces, and "Let's not talk about future events," "It's not my future, is it?" "Yes." XD). Mmmhm. I guess I'll just leave my Fic-writing rants for later, then. But... OMG, PACCAR's up $7.77 a share. I have twenty. SQUEE FACTOR BEYOND REASON!

*g* I just realized something very Alan Tudyk!
Wednesday, 25 April 2007 00:55:08

So, I'm excited to see Alan's new film "Death at a Funeral" when it comes out. It's directed by Frank Oz and also stars some really great talent like Matthew Macfadyen and Peter Dinklage--a film geek orgasim, practically. I've seen the trailer before and the poster, which features a pale, red-headed naked person slumped over in a chair with his back to us on the right. (See here:

Car! And other fun things.
Wednesday, 25 April 2007 01:35:57

Yes, after two weary months I finally have my own car again. :) Let me tell ya, with all these spiff toys online to help you buy a used vehicle(cars.com & carfax.com) it's a pity that by the time one finds out whether or not a car is a good value, in good repair, that it's gone by the time you actually go to see the ruttin' thing. Really. Almost every car I earmarked to see, was gone by the time I got to the dealership. The few that weren't turned out to be lemons. So, after banging my head on my desktop, my stepdad found a used Saturn up by him with low miles and for a good price. So I took back up my mom's SUV and bought it. It rides nice, but I had to replace 1 tire as it was old, dead, and didn't match the other three. I've also got to find out where in my tiny apartment, I can fit stuff my mom left me and gat it down state soon. I brought home a bookcase and all her cookbooks and religious items this weekend while I was up there. While this is going on, work is getting antsy about Fiscal year end and I've been doing OT there to at least catch up from all the work I've missed the past six months. I'm exhaused, still not sleeping too well, may not be able to afford to go to Pensic and, oh, I have jury duty at the end of the month. The fun just never stops. :knife: I owe my friend $1000.00 that she loaned me for the car downpayment...she'll get $450 back fairly soon as that's what I'll be getting from my tax returns and the rest as I can cull it out of subsequent paychecks. I have hopes of being able to spend more time online sometime soon. I miss all of you, I hope you're all well and I thank God for ya'll daily. *hugs*

This series is incredible, This is the only Forum that I've really become a part of, and I did it because I love this series.

Remember you're unique, just like everyone else
Wednesday, 25 April 2007 19:58:12

So after watching Dead Like Me, it dawned on me...this show has been cancelled as well. It's like the world is made for everyone but the ones that have the potential to do something amazing. Take for instance, people with bad hearing. They turn the music waaaaay up and the people with better hearing make this sacrafice so that bad ears can hear, while all along the good ears are lessening THEIR ability to hear by compensating for the person who needs volume 50. The only reason people can fall into likeness is because the people with visions, with understandings, or better hearing have to heed and compensate for those with bad hearing. So the whole world can sit by and watch Greys Anatomy or CSI (I happen to watch them...but thats beside the point!) while the less noticed brillant shows get cancelled because they don't contain enough angst or science?! (Though who wasn't cheering for Gil/Sarah?) We have to sacrifice something amazing for all those that don't get it or live for DRAMADRAMADRAMA? What if I want to watch the cynical little dead girl take souls? It doesn't matter because majority rules with a tyrant fist smashing to pieces the people who face the world with a different understanding. They always say 'be unique' but how is this possible when anyone different is overrun by the majority of the world, whats popular becomes what we listen to, watch, read, talk about. How can anyone be unique in a world where the little things get washed away for the big picture?! It doesn't matter what I want to watch its what the world wants to watch, it doesn't matter that I can listen to my Ipod one click before silence (despite the concerts...) when the rest of the world screams everything that 'needs' to be said. So I'll do what majority does. I'll scream back.

OSU denied my transfer application. Although my calculations were correct when I figured out my combined GPA. Along with my parents calculations, OSU insisted that my GPA wasn't high enough. Which is complete bull. So my father and I went to go find out exactly what was going on. OSU said my GPA was three-hundredths of a point off to be allowed admittance. OH MY GOD! Seriously, not fair. My grades are more than good enough to make it. My father asked how OSU calculated my GPA and they say. Oh, we average the two GPAs...well, then we asked if we could see the calculations, the lady at OSU said. Well, the computer does it. They couldn't show us how the calculated it. I mean, three-hundredths of a point! Why can't they round up?!?! ARRRR! So, now i'm stuck at a college where the courses are too easy! I'm going out of my mind with bordem. I don't even feel like going to class it's so boring, but i know i can't do that. I need to get the grades, to prove to OSU that I can handle college classes. OH! And another thing. OSU thinks not all of my classes will transfer, so I might have to retake classes. -_- They also said my french class, that i took in high school might not qualify me to not take a foreign language class in college. But, you see, my high school plans it, if you pass three years and are proficent, that completes the college requirement. I told the OSU lady this, but she said, well then you can just test out of it. Um.I finished french sophomore year. That was four years ago. I don't remember any of it! How could i test out??!! -_- Another beef againist OSU. My brother is a senior this year, he auditioned for the School of Music at OSU. He's been taking lessons with the classical trombone professor and his TA. He got into the school of music! YAY.....no. OSU denied him addmittance to main campus. they told him that he had to take classes at a branch campus. The information for the branch campus says you can take music class, they argue that the classes are the same as those on main campus. WRONG! The branch campus website for classes lists all the music classes, BUT the buildings they're in are on MAIN CAMPUS! Now, how is he supposed to get there?!?!? We asked the director of the school of music...He said that's not possible. He's not allowed to take classes on Main campus. So he sugguested going to the branch campus and taking a year off of music. Now any college musician can tell you. That's not an opition. He'll be way behind. So the director (unoffically) said, if he was serious about music, he should choose another school. OSU's unprofessional behavior pisses me off. They get my brother's hopes up admitting him to the school of music, only to take it away by denying him admittance. I'm seriously pissed off with colleges right now.

More time for Firefly
Thursday, 26 April 2007 00:40:04

I got fired from one of my jobs yesterday apparently. Somehow I read the schedule wronge and missed my shift on sunday. Yay! Now I have more time to watch firefly over and over and over again. Yippie! I've never been fired before I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.

says it's time to hit the dusty trail. I've hung around here for over a year now, and have pretty much worn out my welcome.... With all the fussin' and fightin' going on in the world, i really don't need it in a forum that was once a fun and enjoyable place to be. Thanks for the good times. Good Luck... Dave

Goodbye Mr. HD
Thursday, 26 April 2007 03:05:00

Yesterday morning we abandoned cable TV. I remember when I was being convinced we should have cable. I was alright with the few channels we had and I didn't want to spend the extra money. Now I am being told it cost too much and we watch it too often. Funny how views change over time. But ultimately, yeah I think I watch too much TV (most of it isn't that great to begin with) and it distracts me from my other fun projects. I've already found one.... I saw a delicious looking close fit vest on a girl yesterday. I fished through my fabric stacks and found something great. It's this pretty drapery weight gold damask with hand sized swirls. If it turns out well I also have some burgandy that will look great as well.

Wanted: Firefly Episode Soundtracks for my iPod
Thursday, 26 April 2007 12:33:01

Anyone know how to easily rip the audio tracks from my Firefly DVD episodes so that can listen to them on my iPod shuffle while commuting in my car? Ok, I am a geek and I can't get enough of Firefly. To clarify: What I want is the audio track - meaning dialog, sound effects, and music - not just the music (which I have). There are a number of rippers out there, but they all cost money, and I only want Firefly audio tracks--nothing else. Can anyone help? Thought I would post this here first, rather than waste everyone's time starting a new thread. Thanks!

Back Stories: fic intro and disclaimers...
Thursday, 26 April 2007 16:02:15

Monday is the day! I will begin posting my new fic, Back Stories. It will come in three books – Book I is 14 long chapters, and I will post 2 chapters a week. Books II and III are still under construction, so there will breaks before posting them. So yes, this fic will be ongoing for quite some time! I’m in no hurry - this is my personal Firefly saga, it is my epic, it is my fic-tome, and I’m telling you now it is likely my last. I must move on with other things! Real life things, things that involve income… (Any whinging about the posting schedule will result in public lashings, because two chapters amounts to roughly 15,000 words a week – I can’t even estimate how many hours of loving labor they represent. Many, many, many! I can’t just hand it all over in one day! *whip held at the ready*) As usual for me, the main focus is Mal, with some heavy doses of Zoë and Inara. But the funnest (and most challenging) thing about Book I is that it includes 9 chapters which are single character POV. Yes, one for each BDM. And most contain a little of that character’s history, as I have imagined it to be. Other info for those who care:

Dude, Dalai, pass the popcorn.
Thursday, 26 April 2007 17:37:01

First posted as Myspace Blog: Been a strange morning. Seems one of "those" dreams pierced the curtain of night and poked my third eye. I got to hang with the successor of the current Dalai Lama. Not really sure how the whole thing works, but isn't the next one pretty much the old one in new form? Anyhoo I come home in the dream and find him sitting quietly in the living room. I thought he was no older than fourteen but I find out later he's about twenty. Nothing couspicuously profound happens. So we watch a few movies (Rio Grande, White Christmas, and some awesome noir-ish flick that I've never seen before) and hang out like old friends. After the movies over tea there is some light discussion. He tells me he grew up with little money but never remembers being hungry. His parents had died when he was very young but never remembers being lonely. He'd been surrounded by violence but never felt despair. The one thing that really touched me was that he had only wept out of joy, never in sadness. Near the end he takes my hand and says nothing, yet I hear him tell me to forgive myself. I close my eyes and open them to see a long line of people in front of me leading to a very large tent in the distance. The people in front of me are wearing various colored robes in all different manners. A funny detail is the three guys in front of me. They are native peoples from different places. They all look awkward in their robes and are either really happy or very drunk. At first I ignore them but eventually I get to talkin' to them, then the people in front of them, and soon we have a large circle or group of people just talking. Soon there is no line. We all stand halfway around the tent laughing and sharing stories, passing snacks and drinks, a few people dance and others play games. All different people of all different places. That's all I have. There are so many other details that are slowly slipping away. That in itself makes it harder to apply anything I felt or learned. I can never have that dream again. I may even forget that I even had the dream in a short while. This leaves me with alot of mixed feelings and unanswered questions. Not even sure how to proceed from here.

Question...
Friday, 27 April 2007 14:04:22

Okay, so i was watching Serenity for, well, it has to be the millionth time. haha. But anywawy. Does anyone know the music they used for the part when Serenity lands at Haven for the first time...and when they're sitting around the fire. It's not on the soundtrack. I know when Jayne plays guitar, he's playing a variation of the Firefly theme. That's not what i want. If anyone can get the audio from the movie(w/o dialouge) that would be amazing... That little music part has been stuck in my head for weeks!

Kosmorama
Friday, 27 April 2007 15:27:58

The third Kosmorama is now over. Kosmorama is Trondheims annual filmfestival. Six days of movies and seminars. Among the movies I saw I would like to recomend some of them. "Black Sheep" from New Zealand is hillarious. If youve ever wondered what would happen if someone in that sheep infested country fiddeled too much with the genes of those wolly creatures, this film presents one senario. Sheep can be creepy and dangerous. If you like zombies, stupid enviromentalists, crazy nazilike scientists and old ladies with shotguns, and if you always suspected that there was evil under the woolly surface of sheep this is the movie for you. Also the korean movie "the Host" is worth the time. Its so many bad monster movies out there so its nice to finally see one that is both funny and good. The monster is not a slow moving, guttural girl with long black hair either so yay. It is also a tiny hint of politics in there, but just enough to make the movie better, not so much so that the whole movie becomes some kind of metaphor. "Renaissance" is another movie that i saw and really liked. I have always thought that rotoscope was kinda cool, and this movie proves it. Its absolutely beautiful to look at, black and white with a grafic novel/film noir feel to it. The story is something every fan of dystopian science fiction will appreciate. It has good actors too; Daniel Craig, Ian Holm and Jonathan Pryce among others. The russian movie "Playing the Victim" was perhaps the most positive suprise I have gotten in a while. The main character, a rather dysfunctional guy, is playing the victim in reinactments of crimes. Hes not the only dysfunctional person in the cast. The movie is one of the funniest I have seen, if you get the chance see this one. The american film "Half Nelson" is also worth watching. Its a cute and sometimes sad story of the friendship between a teacher and a student. The girl who plays the student is brilliant and is herself a reason to see it.

FOX SUCKS EGGS
Friday, 27 April 2007 18:52:08

OH. MY. GAWD. I HATE FOX. SERIOUSLY. WHY THE HELL WOULD THEY CANCEL DRIVE UNLESS THEY JUST LIKE, HAVE A THING AGAINST ANYTHING TO DO WITH FIREFLY??????????????????? OH GOD. OH GOD. I'M GOING TO CRY. I NEED TO LIKE, WRITE HATE MAIL TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WORK THERE. I HAD ACTUALLY FORGIVEN THEM FOR CANCELING FIREFLY. WHEN I GROW UP AND ACTUALLY GET A JOB, I AM GOING TO WORK AT FOX AND SABOTAGE ALL THOSE MORONS WHO EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT CANCELING THE BEST SHOWS EVER. AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

We lost the values but we kept the weed
Friday, 27 April 2007 21:15:20

I found I'm addicted to those Arizona Tea things, the ones that come in a can and/or bottle. My favourite is the pomogrante one, and I want to try the (I think) Blueberry one but I see the word diet and it just turns me off the drink. For starters this drink has no fat and minimal calories to begin with so why the hell a diet version is needed is beyond me. Secondly I thought this was supposed to be the age of obesity yet whereever I go there are THOUSANDS of magazines preaching WALK OFF WEIGHT or other diet plans so you can loose your belly flab. I don't think that we are living up to the name rightfully given to us. We are not the age of values or war or peace or change we're not even considered the technology age, no we are specimens of the fine age of obesity and all these diet magazines and foods are trying to rob us of it!! It's all we have!!!! Geeze, when will people realize it. I think society needs to realize that a body is meant to be proportionate. Broken down: bigs boobs co inciding with a thin waist is not normal! It's just not. The sixties had its whole peace and love thing, why can't we preach piece of pizza and our love of being lazy? I blame Britany Spears only because I have to have one rant where shes the sole entity of everything wrong in our world. Also her and The Gap....perhaps Walmart too, come to think of it, I consider lots of things that axis of evil.....

In the land of Women
Saturday, 28 April 2007 06:14:13

Not ususally one for chick flicks. I am, at this juncture in my life, not able to handle the misery inherent in them. Saying that, went with #'s 1 and 2 and borrowed girl to see "In the Land of Women". It is a must see. We laughed our collective arses off, which for me is substantial. There are tears. Olympia Dukakis is the Grandma we should all have. It was fantastic. Go see it. It doesn't turn out the way you want it to, it turns out the way it should.

FOX is SO considerate*
Saturday, 28 April 2007 15:57:48

*Sarcasm, people - that was TOTAL sarcasm I'm an art student, and I attend class at night, AND I don't have digital TV or TiVO. This means that my poor little VCR is getting a workout recording at least one to two hours per night of TV that I would like to keep up on. It's not a lot; Heroes, Gilmore Girls, Bones, Supernatural. I was recording Lost for awhile, then realized that for me Lost and 24 are best watched on DVD when I don't have to obsess about keeping track of them when I should be obsessing about turning in that next design project. Recently (as you might expect), I had added "Drive" to my exclusive line up. I was happy to see Nathan on a weekly basis again, even if he didn't get to use that sexy mischievous smile. At all. I didn't even mind that he was driving a Dodge. The 60s era Challenger was *hawt*, and Nathan looked *pretty gorram hawt* driving it. He had the same gleam in his pretty blue-grey eyes that he got when he held the gun on Patience, or when he cut Jayne free of the Reaver harpoon. Only with that sexy mischievous smile. *sigh* *scowl* But I guess I didn't have time to obsess about that either, did I? And obviously Fox realized it before I did. That's why they cancelled it, right? They had my best interests at heart? Yeah, sure they did. ~grumble mutter~ Back in the day, we called Fox the serial killer of quality TV. Now they're the serial killar of infant TV. I go away for awhile and it turns out NOTHING has changed, has it?

It's the Frakkin' Cylons!

So yesterday I went to Walmart to hunt down the elusive 2 tank tops that make up the Battlestar Galactica undershirt. I had been looking for a couple weeks but I had some time so I went looking again. Tried on some, found a couple that worked and got them. After getting them they were decent but not perfect. So we took them back. The SO and I decided we needed to shop for them together to make a final decision on what looked best. He's was right. He found the undershirt and I spotted the over shirt. Then it was picture time. The obligatory:

Yo. I've really got nothing to do today. Well, actually, I've got homework and I need to write my thing for the children's moment at my church tomorrow, I leared two days ago I was doing it. So...I should be writing that, but I'm too lazy. I just posted my first thing here today. I've got a few fics running through my head, but two are obviously series, so it's gonna take me a while to get the courage to write them. Or start writing them. I just got a letter yesterday from my best friends, she's living in Egypt right now, it makes me sad, I haven't seen her in 4 months now. *tear* She's not a Browncoat, but I intend to remedy that as soon as she get's back.

76th Battalion Uniform Update
Monday, 30 April 2007 04:59:38

Got my coats and vests for Daisy Shen and I. Daisy was over tonight with my parents and I was able to deliver her custom made Tristan exclusive coat, vest, and belt pouch. She liked them. :) Still no word on those darn holsters that Mircea sent over. I don't know what the heck happened, but I think they got lost. I feel terrible that he spent all that time working on them and they never got here. He told me that he's sending over another set. Next up will probably be scarves. I may buy extra fabric and see if anyone else wants some. I know TequilaMatt (from the PA Browncoats) may want some. And for some hilarity. Even though it's not firefly related:

I've had enough of Fox
Monday, 30 April 2007 07:42:28

I remained silent when they cancelled Firefly. I sat by in a quiet rage when Justice was tossed aside. But I can no longer tolerate the enormous mistakes of Fox. Drive was incredible; and the last straw. It's time for revenge my friends. It's time to be heard. It's time for a boycott. We have begun to fight! But we need numbers to be noticed. Our myspace username is Burned by Fox. Look us up. We will boycott Fox and any company that advertises with them. "I aim to misbehave." Who's with me?

Quite possibly the funniest thing I have ever seen
Monday, 30 April 2007 08:16:29

Hi there, So my plans to watch the Firefly weekend on Sci-Fi were well and truly scuppered. Bobby phoned on Saturday asking to go out and I'm not going to say no to Bobby. We went to Durham with John. Firstly we went and pestered Andrew at the Cathedral; which is always fun. There were a load of scouts there which did lead on to the inevitable scouting for boys jokes. Yes we are very predictable. When Andrew finished we went to the pub to have lunch and then we went shopping. Well, shopping consisted of me and Bobby drooling over Jensen Ackles and then going to another pub. Yes all in all we did end up in four pubs; the waterhouse, the swan, the angel and one i can't remember the name of but I think it had the word moon in the name (no, I wasn't drunk when we went there, my memory is just terrible). We got the 6:20pm bus home which is when the hilarity really started. Well, It'd been hilarious all day because me, Andrew and Bobby kept falling over and in the Angel we were laughing about eyebrows but on the bus it took on a whole new level. Bobby couldn't stay on the seat and when Andrew got off at Thornley, John decided he wanted to hug him (yes John was drunk. He's a happy drunk which annoys me. It makes me want to punch him) but Andrew was having none of that. So a combination if trying to get away from John and being too tall for the bus meant that Andrew fell over also. In his attempted escape, John chased after him; only his jeans are too big for him and they started to fall down. The sight of a giant ginger man being chased by a hairy dude with his jeans around his ankles was too much for me and Bobby and we laughed continuously for the rest of the journey. And Bobby nearly fell off his seat again. So that was my Saturday. Sunday was somewhat less interesting; which consisted of me watching Supernatural and making notes from one of the most boring books in the history of the world. But i got it done. Now I just have to start revision; the exam is in one month. Anyway TTFN Jennifer -x-

The Fluctuations of Life
Monday, 30 April 2007 10:39:08

Is it just me or does it suck muchly when things are going well and then take a bad turn, just, it seems like, to screw with you? I mean, it could all be good one day, but by the next evening, you're well on the way downhill and there's nothing you can do about it. This past week or so for me has had a plentiful amount of moments like that, and to be honest, I really hate it. I thought I was finally getting somewhere with my writing after being out of commission for so long, and I even posted the first part of my new fic up, but now I'm back where I was before! After reading and re-reading the first section, I've discovered I'm not actually that satisfied with it, but I'm not entirely sure why. And because of that, I can't seem to motivate myself to pick up a pen - ok, open the word document on my laptop - and continue the next part. I sort of hate myself for it - it bugs me to all hell that I'm stuck in a rut again so soon after starting something new, especially when I have these ideas roaming about my head, but I really don't know what to do. I have this cartoon image of beating my head with a stick, piñata style, just to see how the ideas fall out and so they end up being used, but somehow I doubt it'd work as well in real life. Darn. On the upside, the Can't Stop The Serenity screening I'm organising seems to be shaping up! Leaflets and posters are pretty much sorted so all I have to do now is get a butt-load of them printed and share 'em out between everyone who said they'd help distribute them (I love you all, by the way). I started ordering prizes for the raffle we're having (Amazon and Ebay are my friends), and I picked up the prize donation from our first confirmed sponsor last week too, so that gave me a big happy. I think I'll start phoning around the rest of the sponsors I sent letters to tomorrow - a week should have been plenty of time for them to think about whether they want to take part or not. And if it's not, tough crap. I'm all for giving managers/companies a bit of notice before bombarding them with requests, but if they're not going to get back to me themselves, then they can sure as hell expect me to get in touch with them. Umm, but yeah, before I rant too much about that, everything seems to be going well so far! *touch wood* Watch this space for more news. Speaking of news - I was more than a bit gutted when I heard about Drive. Even thinking about it now makes me feel depressed and safe to say, very, very angry. Hearing the name FOX usually leads to colourful, sweary type sentences about its executives, and a list of sadistic ways to hurt them. Not that it didn't before, but even more so now. Hey, I'm not the only one, so don't judge! I just don't understand what their problem is - so apparently, it didn't grab enough ratings, but it was barely on the air for THREE weeks, give it a fucking chance! Did I hear right about the blackout in some of the States for one of those weeks, and the fact that FOX aired one episode on a Sunday night, then the following episode the next again day? Well done you money-hungry wankers, once again you screwed over your own show without really giving it a chance to impact. I also wish pain upon the American audience who decided Dancing with the Stars was worth their watching time - you suck. And what really gets to me about the whole thing (apart from the fact that the viewers just got shit all over) is how the cast and crew must be feeling, specifically Nathan Fillion and Tim Minear. Just walk away guys, and don't look back - you're worth more. I end this with a hearty and venom-fuelled FUCK YOU FOX!!! Ok, happy news - I came home from uni one day this past week to find a package addressed to me on the dining room table. The writing on the label was familiar, and I thought back to a few days before that when I'd gotten a text from (my dear friend) Vez, asking me my t-shirt size. I told her and wondered why, but she'd refused to reveal anything, and so I'd kinda forgotten about it. Until then. "Vez" was my immediate thought as I opened the envelope and

Vanity

OK so a few months ago Laurelin started picking on me about my grey hair (granted I threw the first stone on that topic a week or so before so I had it coming). It has never really bothered me. Its just hair afterall! I have a little of a receding hairline. I am hoping that it will eventually allow me to grow the Hulk Hogan Mullet (that would be sweet), and it is now a really dirty blonde almost to the point of being brown where it used to be a golden blonde. So I went on Saturday to get my quarterly haircut (I usually get it cut pretty tight so that I am not wasting money at the barbershop every 2 weeks). So I am talking to my barber and we get to the topic of my grey hairs and the barber says well we can take care of those right now with some highlights. I figured that would show Laurelin for picking on me! I highlighted my hair a couple of times a few years back just for the hell of it but got bored and stopped. I get bored with my hair quite a lot. The last time I was really bored with it I gave Laurelin our clippers and told her to take it all off. Fun way to find out you have an odd-shaped head and really small ears! So anyway; I told the barber sure lets highlight it. If I don't like it we can shave it and it will grow back. Well it wasn't highlighted so much as she dyed the whole thing Golden Blonde. I guess it looks alright but am not totally sure yet. It is supposed to fade a little more with time. I am hoping it will lighten up even more. Boredom is a wonderful thing. Is it vanity though? I am not sure. It kinda feels like it and I am sure people think it is. So ladies Introducing Billy Idol! *place mock cheers here*

My 1943 Topic
Monday, 30 April 2007 19:29:24

My last post in the Thread "1943" I'll written as usual yes, but what do you think about it. Thanks, but I am well aware of the nature of humanity and what it is capable of. It's just that every now and then when I least expect it suddenly it hits me just how historically, and presently cruel and mean we are to one another. Human nature? Yes, it is our way; it's what makes human beings, human beings, but still I don't have to like it, which I don't and never will. One could say that I'm shaking my fist at gravity, and in certain ways I am shaking my fist at something I myself cannot control which in itself is an act of futility, but I would not say that I'm being hyper-focused. Any normal human being with a soul would react to a scene of butchery with revulsions, and disgusts which I demonstrated when I watched that movie; it is a natural response. Its no wonder that the human race has so many stories of super heroes and champions, or supernatural beings, or Gods and spirits fighting for our best interests because considering the horrors we visited upon each other presently and historically, we are frightened shitless of each other because we know what we are all capable of. Certainly there are people out there who do good acts, and in many ways are heroes. I acknowledge them and their efforts, but it is also very true that the evil that exists in this world totally outnumbers the good. That good is a thin, blue line that keeps evil at bay, but never enough good to totally destroy it because totally destroying evil means that we end up totally destroying ourselves. How screwed up is that? We seem to need evil. Crazy world if you ask me. Also, as wired tight as I am I do my bit of good for the undeserving humanity. We all in one form or another have to make a choice about what side we want to be on, and then act on that choice in the many ways available. I am just convinced that even though there are good people out there I believe that most people are evil, or have evil intent...call it greed or lust, or hate, or power and prestige; call it whatever you want it is something that we excel well at speaking historically of course. One of my top annoyances with the human race is one of so-called racial superiority, or racial inferiority. This has got to be the dumbest thing we ever come with. People point at Africans and say they are inferior because they didn't invent a lot of things, so I guess the measure of human development is what your race as created, invented, or built. Whites think that they are superior to other races because of the many things that have been built. We even gone to the moon, but in my mind this brings us no closer to the all mighty, and in certain ways we are the "N" word of humanity. If there were such a creature as a superior human that human would never need to push that superiority in the faces of other races and blame them for not developing as fast as we did. We are not superior to anyone. I personally think that we are tricked into thinking that all of our fancy gadgets we created is a mark of superiority, but it isn't...not in the least. Lastly. Looking at the whole white race in general, there have been many that created great things and moved in great strides in science, math, arts and social causes, but the rest of white humanity was just along for the ride. How dare we take the credit of the few great people and say that WE ourselves are superior? Just another weird thought banging around in this thing that passes for my brain. -River

What is the Blue Sun Corporation?
Monday, 30 April 2007 22:06:38

After writing the entire Wikipedia article regarding Blue Sun I started getting a few e-mails about it and I thought I'd write a blog entry to help those people who are new to firefly begin to understand the underside of the main story. Now keep in mind, this blog entry is entirely my opinion. It is not canon. It is based on my expansive personal knowledge of Firefly coupled with how and where Blue Sun inter-relates. To understand Blue Sun you must first possess an understanding of the political structure of the 'verse. Firefly can be politically compared to the 18th century English government. At that time there was a triad of intrests governing the highest decisions of British life. Firstly there was the King, and along with that persona you find the nobility. Second is the parliament of "elected" officials. I place the word (elected) in quotes because the concept of a democracy was more of a philosophy than a reality during that time period. The third and final major force were the capitalists of the era and along with them comes big business. One of the largest of these organizations was the East India Company. Blue Sun is modeled on EIC. In the 18th century, political corruption was a fact of life and a nature of business. In order to see your commercial interests forwarded, one need only use ones money to influence the nobility and thus parliament. Oftentimes members of parliament were nobles who had political stock in EIC or other trade engines. The system was tightly interwoven and the result was that an elite few were able to become wealthy by treading on the backs of the common man. This is the exact situation we see in the Firefly 'verse. A nobility class clearly exists. Mal refers to a "King of Londinium" in the pilot episode. Warrick Harrow explains to Mal that his red sash indicates lordhood. Atherton Wing and Magistrate Higgins are clearly lesser lords. Interrelated with these nobles you find the interests of the Alliance government, which we know from the film to be governed by a parliament. The third and final piece of the puzzle is big business. In Firefly we see this expressed in the form of the Blue Sun Corporation, which while surely not the only corporation, is likely the largest and most influential. Joss Whedon once described Blue Sun as a combination of Microsoft and Coca-Cola. Judging from what we see of Blue Sun a more apt comparision would be Microsoft/Coca-Cola/Procter & Gamble. Clearly the future of corporations involves business buying itself out until only a scant few entities remain. Those few companies provide all the logistical infrastructure in the 'verse. One of Blue Sun's niches is in the consumer staples market. Note the following apperances of Blue Sun on food products: 1. The crybaby was a radio transmitter taped to a Blue Sun coffee can. (pilot episode) 2. River rips labels of Blue Sun brand food. (shindig) 3. A Blue Sun cola commercial runs as Serenity debarks her landing platform (The Message) 4. River kicks a Blue Sun brand bottle off a table in the maidenhead bar (Serenity feature film) 5. Jayne passes a Blue Sun brand liquor bottle to Simon (Serenity feature film) Blue Sun's other market is in electronic technological advancements. The only example of this is in the episode Ariel. When Simon boots up the holo-imager, a spinning logo appears before the machine begins to show Rivers internal organs. If you look closely at the center of the spinning element of the hologram, you can clearly see Blue Sun's logo. Be aware that it will appear backwards because it is presented in a manner that would appear correct to the operator of the imager (Simon) and we are on the opposite side. I have heard (non-canon) discussions that there were plans to hide Blue-Sun logos in internet communications, implying that the company has patients on common telecommunications technologies, such as sending "Waves" and accessing the Cortex. (For non-browncoats...the Cortex is the WWW of the 'verse. It traverses all the planets in the star system, tho
