The Serenity Pilot Is Superior to Serenity the Movie Due to Its Ability to Portray Slices of Life

Opening Entry
Monday, 02 July 2007 06:48:16

I've only recently discovered firefly, but I saw serenity way back when it was in theaters the first time. I didn't understand it much - couldn't hear it, didn't know they were speaking chinese, heck I didn't even understand the story. Now, I'm in love with firefly and serenity - and I'm mad they canceled it. I feel they left way too much unanswered - showing Inara's leaving, Book's leaving, what exactly happened to River, etc etc etc. That's about it...oh, and River is practically my favorite character of all time :)

Serenity

Although I do like Firefly better than Serenity, I decided to go ahead and Pre-Order the Collector's Edition. I've already ordered Firefly (Wal-Mart giftcards are shiny!), so this is the first money

Anticlimactic

You might have guessed by my lack of excited posting during the entire last month, that the vacation I'd planned to take didn't happen. Tijuana got nixed. There were three reasons for it. First of all, I didn't go because my mother had some dire issues stemming from her pancreas. She was in rough shape, and lacking anybody else to look after her plethora of dogs, that duty fell upon me. Luckily, she's not had to have her pancreas out (especially because that's pretty much instant diabetes, right there), but she's still a bit tenuous on what she can and cannot eat. Second, I learned that she had extreme reservations about me going to Mexico. Now, do understand that my mother is not one to worry easily. I dare say that she's one to worry far too little. So when she admitted that she didn't want me to go, it lended her argument a certain added credence that others in my position might not have heeded. Thirdly, I didn't go for the same reason I never started drinking, smoking, or doing drugs. I didn't have enough money. Lack of money's a pain in the ass, especially if you wish, as I do, to see some portion of this world before something comes along to remove me from it. Well, that's all in the past. I've recently started a job in what the Yanks would call Loblaw's, but we call the SuperStore (Ain't we arrogant cusses?). Produce is repetitive and dull, but it gives me a chance to turn my brain off every day, and that's something I'm sure some people can appreciate. My boss is a good guy, but his boss is a total asshole. Par for the course in the work world. Well, as long as I'm getting paid, I can put up with Larry's bullshit. What I won't do, though, is put up with it for free. On another note, I've got two more chapters of Legacy up. They're slow in the making, between work and all of the other distractions I fail to filter out, but the first two parts of a three parter I have planned are up, being the Agony and the Ecstacy, part one. Part two should be coming sometime this month. Fingers crossed, of course.

Hey all, Just sitting here wishing that every time I visit I don't see the BSR taken up by all fanfic. I mean, who has the time to read it all? And is there any separation of wheat from chaff? I'm sure there's many, many fans of you creative writers out there, but it seems like the artwork and pics I so enjoy are being elbowed out by countless fanfic entries. I've found myself wishing lately that there was a separate FF fanfic site, so the BSR could be all visuals. Everyone has their own opinion, this just happens to be mine. Feel free to disagree, as always. Conversely, is there anyone who gets what I'm saying?

Help?

Hi all, My first blog entry. Wonder who'll bother reading? I know I ought to be writing more TiYBoD, but I am so stuck. After everyone hankering for Mal POV, I've decided to write a Mal-centric Interlude. But the problem is... I really, really suck at writing Mal. Well, okay, I'm not as bad as SOME people I've seen, who tend to make Mal sound as hokey/jerk-off-y as possible (Hello, OOC, what's up?) But still. Inara is pretty much my homegirl...just like Ginny in HP fandom comes right to me, or Buffyvoice is second nature. To switch it up and try and write me some Mal, especially in this delicate juncture in the fic? GAH. Also, while I'm at it, I'm writing some Zoe/Mal, because it's impossibly beautiful. Some Kaylee/Mal, 'cause the way I see it, it's all post-apocalyptic and despairing, and HAH Kaylee, try smiling NOW muwahahahaha. There's a lot of Mal going around. But um. Not so much good with the voice. Need some help. Some guidance. Someone to HOLD MY HAND PLZ. Anyone willing to deal with flaky, fidgety, fic-writer me? I fully anticipate no response, I actually shuddered at typing that question because *I* wouldn't even wanna deal with me. BUT PLZ DO. Shiny fic and my undying gratitude will be your reward. I just need someone to vibe with, someone to tell me honest-like how I'm doing... In other news. LJ sucks teh hardcore. I'm really fed up with getting links to such horrible quality fics at update notice board comms, and watching amazing fic get bypassed. Over on ff.net, a fic with OOC characters and horrible grammar gets 29387283 reviews and some of the most exquisite stuff gets, like, one: OMG SO GOOD PLZ UPDATE MORE ROFL. Fandom makes me wantto throw up sometimes. But then I come here and I read me some Mal4Prez, or some Kaynara, or some Chazzer, and I get all squee-like again. And LJ has some redeeming points..browncoat2X2, for example, and again, Mal4prez (obviously you can all tell I, along with others, am a fangirl), and some other lovely ladies. Eh. I'm nominated for the Serenity on the Hellmouth awards for my Zoe/Wash fic, Elegy for a Pilot. If you're hankering to cry, go read :P Anyways...HELP PLEAZE FF FANDOM. Because you guys are my favorite (omg shh, BtVS and Harry Potter will HEAR YOU) and all. Mwuah!

Shiny Day
Tuesday, 03 July 2007 20:34:31

So, in the mail today I received Firefly, much as I suspected :) However, I also received serenity from netflix, which I did NOT expect just yet. I am decrypting and copying serenity to my hard drive as I type :P Verdict? A VERY shiny day indeed :)

Something to do with Maya
Wednesday, 04 July 2007 01:35:27

Hey, folk. As you know, i'm completely and totally addicted to Maya. I love Jane's works, and I love Freya. Freya and Mal are such a great couple they just mesh, unlike Mal and Inara. I don't like Inara. That's why, in like, every fic that I do with her, she dies at some point in the plot line. I'm sorry. I just hate Mara. I think it's because they lack in chemistry. And i've had a share of my own, very crappy relationships, much like Mal's and Inara's. But Mal and Freya works. And I kinda like chicks with short hair and bad-ass attitudes that can read peoples minds and create really hot illusions. But, I won't deny Inara this. She is kinda pretty. But I still love Freya.

My recent struggles with great literature
Wednesday, 04 July 2007 03:22:45

I became an avid reader while in junior high. My main fare being fantasy novels. Over the years my tastes have matured somewhat but I still enjoy a good epic fantasy. Give me some sword & sorcery and I'm usually a happy camper. A few years ago I picked up a leatherbound copy of "Lord of the Rings" from the SFBC. This instantly ignited a passion for leatherbound books. As luck would have it I received a mailing from Easton Press who just happen to produce such books at fairly reasonable prices. Needless to say I jumped at their "100 greatest novels" offer. Even better I would only have to select the ones I wanted upon signing up. I checked off 29 out of the 100 selections confident in my choices. Here's where my trouble began. The first book I received was "Moby Dick". I had the perception that the story focused on Ahab's obsession with hunting the white whale. To my dismay it turns out that 90% of the book details the minutia of whaling and operating a ship. This being of no interest to me I had a very hard time getting through the book, something I haven't experienced in a long time. If that had been the only such occurrence things would have been fine. To date I have finished 8 books with about half not living up to my expectations. Even more frustrating is that I remember enjoying some of these works having read them earlier in my life. I can't quite figure this out. Either these books are terribly overrated, I'm not as bright as I'd like to think, or my years of reading lighter stories has damaged my palate with regards to the finer works of literature.

I never should have switched from Scotch to Martinis - Humphrey Bogart's last words
Wednesday, 04 July 2007 12:21:14

Dear avid readers, Hi all (first and foremost). Just so you all know, as it turns out: today is my Birthday. I was born on the 4th of July, which is deeply sardonic because I am Australian. As to my actual age…. Well… I am officially twenty-three, which is both deeply depressing and nostalgic for myself. For whatever the reason, around this time of year I get very reflective as to where I am in life and how little I have progressed (in the greater scheme of things). My slumber of self-loathing reached the boiling the other day after reading a book by Mark Gayle called ‘Turning 30’. Essentially, the moral of the story was that ‘sometimes its ok, not to be ok’. Perhaps it was beyond my realm of understanding (as I am not yet 30), but for an entire week I couldn’t put my head around it. I got so desperate; I ended up emailing the author (I kid you not) and questioned him about the book. That day I learned something. There are certain things in life that are generally unwise to do: 1.Walk onto oncoming traffic 2.Talk with your mouth full 3.Argue the logistics of a book to the author whom actually wrote it Mind you, the author was very nice about it, but as you can imagine… So here I am, a little worse for wear, and hopefully a little wiser. My favourite quote is by Kurt Vonnegut: ‘Beware of the man who works hard to learn something, learns it, and finds himself no wiser than before. He is full of murderous resentment of people who are ignorant without having come by their ignorance the hard way’. That’s me to the bone I think. So anyway, thought I should share and wish everyone a happy non-birthday (we have 364 of them, you know?). And out of curiosity, if anyone could part with any inspirational words of wisdom about life in general would gladly be appreciated. Thank you all. Superfluous Definition: 1. [adj] more than is needed, desired, or required; "trying to lose excess weight"; "found some extra change lying on the dresser"; "yet another book on heraldry might be thought redundant"; "skills made redundant by technological advance"; "sleeping in the spare room"; "supernumerary ornamentation"; "it was supererogatory of her to gloat"; "delete superfluous (or unnecessary) words"; "extra ribs as well as other supernumerary internal parts"; "surplus cheese distributed to the needy" 2. [adj] serving no useful purpose; having no excuse for being; "otiose lines in a play"; "advice is wasted words" P.S. I got ‘another’ Browncoat as a gift >>> its shiny.

Happy Independents Day - Now with PhotoEssay!

No political prattle from me today. I know, a lot of you were looking forward to it. Suck it up. I just want to say happy barbequing, fireworking and running through the sprinklers. Be careful, be safe and be happy. Just some reminders of the day.

Independence

I don't need to be a global citizen Cause I'm blessed by nationality I'm member of a growing populace We enforce our popularity There are things that seem to pull us under And there are things that drag us down But there's a power and a vital presence That's lurking all around We've got the American Jesus See him on the interstate We've got the American Jesus He helped build the President's estate I feel sorry for the Earth's population Cuz so few live in the USA At least the foreigners can copy our morality They can visit but they cannot stay Only precious few can garner the prosperity It makes us walk with renewed confidence We've got a place to go when we die And the architect resides right here We've got the American Jesus Bolstering national faith We've got the American Jesus Overwhelming millions every day He's the farmer's barren fields The force the army wields Expession in the faces of the starving millions The power of the man The fuel that drives the clan He's the motive and conscience of the murderer He's the preacher on t.v. The false sincerity The form letter that's written by the big computers The nuclear bombs The kids with no moms And I'm fearful that he's inside me We've got the American Jesus See him on the interstate We've got the American Jesus Exercising his authority We've got the American Jesus Bolstering national faith We've got the American Jesus Overwhelming millions every day One nation under God... So I seem to be feeling a little cynical. I can't imagine why. A change next year? That would be good.

We tried our little fountain display tonight, and four out of five if the fountains either fell over, THEN burst into flames, or just plain EXPLODED!! The last fountain we set, blew its top off, when the top landed, it kept right on going! It was the BEST night EVER!!

I Got Food Again!
Thursday, 05 July 2007 18:13:15

So, the wife goes away on a trip and I thought I had more food than I actually had. So, I go to the two grocers I have access to. Unfortunately, the meatballs are a discontinued at one and the other one is mainly a bulk food store that overwhelmingly has dried goods (e.g. flour, nuts, etc). So, after only a few days I run out of food. Perhaps next time I should look into the boxes while making my shopping list :crap: Anyway, we went to a larger grocer a few days ago and I have food again! Found some amazing meat and I'm trying some new fruits/veggies (at least at home). So, tonight (or soon), I'm going to cook up an experiment. I'll let you know how it goes

Yipeee! I'm so chuffed!
Thursday, 05 July 2007 22:15:50

I have lost 3lbs! I know, I know, that's not a lot, but it's a start. Go Slimfast! And go me! Only 11lbs left to hit my target weight, although I'd like to lose a bit more ideally. This diet thing isn't as hard as I thought it would be. Although I couldn't do it a uni, I need my mum to pay for all the 'Tesco Healthy Living' and 'M&S Count On Us' meals. Oooh, and Weightwatchers pizza. Okay, gonna stop vainly babbling about myself now. Love Chaz xx P.S Three lbs!

What The Hell.
Friday, 06 July 2007 02:14:37

Hey, what's up, how's things going. I know I haven't been on but it's just I don't like the computer and I been bizzy to. I just had 2 dogs and 2 cats died this last month and I'm been trying to keep myself going and everything, I miss them and they were good dogs and cats. Oh yeah I got Buffy season 4 and I'm gonna be getting season 7 too. And I learned about css, I think next year I'm gonna go to a class for css at a college, and maybe do that when I get older. When I'm doing this blog it seems like I did a lot of stuff in 2 months maybe more. Oh yeah I have my own story now, it's call The Eyes Of The Hunter. And I got an Supernatural one up too. Look at it and tell me what do you think.

Take My Love
Friday, 06 July 2007 03:32:06

I've fallen in love with firefly and serenity! It's my escape whenever things in my world don't go so great. I love Mal for being such an ass and his smart ass comments. I love Zoe for her quick wit and warrior woman like attitude. I love Kaylee for her not so innocent positivity. I love Wash for his dinosaurs and amazing piloting skills. I love Book for not always being who you think he is. I love Inara for showing that women can be sexy and strong. I love Simon for being completely oblivious when it comes to women. I love River for being crazy. Heck I even love Jayne for his crazy hats and twisted sense of nobility

excitement
Friday, 06 July 2007 07:12:29

So thanks for the response to my latest blog...my Mal hysteria has calmed down and I am attempting to write. When I'm done, mal4prez is def getting a visit :P Speaking of difficult characters...guess who's writing Riverfic? Gulp. I'm writing this crazy River/Dawn/Ginny mashup crossover oneshot that's just...well. Crazy. I'm worried its not coherent at all, and while River is crazy, she makes sense, in retrospect. I hope I achieve that with this. I'm excited about it in any case. Also...meeting Morena on the 21st, pretty sure. Buying the tix tonight and looking up accomodations in Seacaucas. I'm so excited...I feel like I'll embarrass myself and like, ask her out. I have a huge girlcrush on her. Gah. I need some FF peeps on AIM or Trillian. I need to talk through fics. Someone let me be selfish and offer to read my River/Ginny/Dawn as it is so far and like...tell me its coherent? Hah. Just kidding. I need to tweak it. Gah. So anxious to post fic, got a lotta shiny stuff for ya'll. Hows everyone doing?

Just ranting about comments
Friday, 06 July 2007 08:46:28

Just bear with me while I have a little rant ... :bash: I write fanfic. I love comments. Like everyone else, I adore praise, and it makes my day to see someone has commented on a story of mine, and I do thank each and every one of you who do so. I even find that if people don't like something that it can make me think again about my story, where it's going and how it's getting there! It's just that, lately, it seems as if the comments are tailing off. Is it me? Do my stories somehow now suck? Basically, I'm asking - nay, pleading - if you think I'm going wrong, tell me. I may not listen. I may not even agree with you. I could even get violent. But I write Firefly fanfic because I love the show, and I want people to enjoy what I've written. Well, rant done. And to those who comment regularly, I love you guys!

My favorite
Friday, 06 July 2007 16:11:25

When thinking about what character is my favorite in Firefly and Serenity it comes down to my top four; zoe, kaylee, mal and wash. You can't help but admire Zoe Washburn when you're watching these DVDs. She's the perfect warrior woman but still you are able to see a more personal side of her when she's with Wash. She keeps herself a locked book and is career military to the point. I have to say though my favorite line in Serenity and the one that breaks my heart the most is
She's tore up plenty, but she'll fly true.
Comic Con - San Diego
Friday, 06 July 2007 18:01:02

So - who's going? I know there are a lot of you! I've gone every year for the last 12 years and it just gets bigger every year. Which isn't necessarily the best thing. Joss is going to be there on Saturday. There's some kind of Heroes panel or event that will be going on one of the days. For those of you who don't know anything about this convention. Check it out at : comic-con.org

Need help with song title...
Saturday, 07 July 2007 06:22:52

...or the band that recorded it. There's is a song I've been hearing on the radio lately but I can't find the title or artist so I'm turning to the browncoat community for help. I've tried going to websites that search via lyric fragments to no avail, maybe the song is too old. I'm pretty sure it's from the 70's but I could be wrong. About halfway through the tone and tempo change, almost feels like two different songs. Here are some of the lyrics: "The night exploded with a heavy crash as we fell into the sun, and the first man said to the second one there, 'I hope you're having fun'..." "The jailer man and sailor Sam will search forevermore..." The chorus sounds like "man on the run" but I might be mistaken. This has been haunting me for months so any help would be much appreciated.

Getting married! (and the tree mystery)
Saturday, 07 July 2007 10:31:16

I'm getting married in a couple of hours!!! I can't believe I'm doing this. I never thought I'd ever take a step like this, but we've been together for 7 years and I guess it was time. We decided to get married on 7,7,07 because we've been together 7 years. We also are only having 7 guests. Need all the good luck we can get! A strange thing happened yesterday. We are getting married in our backyard and had it all cleaned up and looking nice. We left the house yesterday for half an hour to get cat food. When we got back we noticed that someone had actually PULLED down two trees! I don't know how they did it, as the trees were really big adult trees and not even close to each other. We also found a hole cut in our back fence. I would say it's just coincidence, but two trees coming down right when we are only away for half an hour??? I don't have any enemies that I know of around here. Maybe I'm just being paranoid. Well, I'm not going to let this ruin anything for me. The sun is shining and it's a beautiful warm day, so I'm just going to go enjoy it. Have to start getting ready now. Thanks for letting me rant.

Just responding
Saturday, 07 July 2007 12:39:11

Wow. I seem to have ruffled a few feathers with my last blog, which was - in all honesty - just me letting off a little steam. But somehow I feel the need to take a few moments to respond, particularly as some of the comments have made me reassess a couple of things, such as why I am writing, and who for. This is easy. Me. I write for my own pleasure, but as part of that pleasure is letting other people read what I’ve written and seeing their reactions, then I’m writing for you too. Would I continue if there was no option for comments to be left? Probably, but that’s by no means a certainty. Feedback is very important, throughout real life as well as on these pages. And, oddly enough, it had occurred to me that not everyone would like my take on the ‘verse, for whatever reason. If we all liked the same things, it would be a cold and sanitised world we live in, where the height of entertainment would be reality TV shows. And we would all enjoy them. Forever. When I started uploading, I made the conscious decision to stick with the OCs I created. For me, no matter what Joss Whedon series you look at, he doesn’t just continue with the same characters all the time. New ones enter, die, get absorbed into the gang … And although I am in no way comparing my scribblings with his, his stories are a continuous arc, with characters growing and changing. So what’s good enough for the Master had better be good enough for me! I understand that other authors don’t work like this. Which is fine. When I sample stories from the archives, sometimes I come across writers who‘ve killed off a major character in one arc, then gone to another story where they’re still alive. And I’d enjoyed these stories too. I’m not going to stop anyone doing that. I began writing Firefly fanfic because I love the show, and I wanted to see if I could get the written word to sound the same as it does in my head. And no, I’m not crazy. Least, not yet. I’d not put myself out for public comment before, and I found there were a lot of people in this community who were encouraging of me as a new writer. I’m going to be eternally grateful to them, and try to do the same for other new authors. As for my OCs, I accept that a lot of people feel Freya is a Mary Sue. But I’m not sure why I should apologise for this. For whatever reason I introduced her (not least from the belief that Mal and Inara would never have ended up together, not without some serious character development) I liked her, and she allowed my storyline to develop. There have been plenty of opportunities for me to move her on, kill her off … despite the fact that when I’d appeared to be heading in that direction I’ve had other comments asking me not to, so I must be doing something right! I haven’t, though, because I care too much for Mal. He may be a fictional character, but fiction has to be grounded - at least to some degree - in reality, and to do that would damage him too much. Besides which, this is fiction, and it’s my fiction! I’m not asking everyone to like my story. I’m not asking for everyone who reads to comment. But I’m not going to apologise for wanting them. I love comments. They inform the characters, and give me ideas. And of course it’s great to know someone else loves my tale, and I get to bask in that gentle glow. Am I going to stop writing? I don’t know. At the moment I have a lot of ideas. Am I going to go back and not have Freya, Ethan, Hank or Bethie? No. And no apologies for that, either. If you think this is another rant, then I’m sorry you feel that way. I just figured you should know a little of what goes on inside my head. These blogs seem to carry all sorts of messages. I happened to ask a particular question. Maybe more fool me. And you all have your own opinion. Which is also fine. Hell, in this life if we can’t live and let live, what can we do?

Just an ickle poll, please help.

Hey all! My wonderful beta, Mavourneen, brought something to my attention in a chapter to the sequel of Job Satisfaction. She said she wasn't familiar with the word 'chunter' So, is this just a freaky British word that I use or do other people recognise it? I like the word so I wouldn't jump to change it unless a bunch of you don't understand. By the way, in case you're curious, it's kinda of a synonym of mutter, but in more of a rant-y sort of way. Thanks Chaz xx

Firefly Fans Top 10 List: Delay Announcement
Sunday, 08 July 2007 11:16:43

Dear avid readers, To those whom may already know, I have been posting a series of Firefly related episodes called ‘Firefly Fans Top 10 List’ via weekly instalments (every Tuesday). Unfortunately, I am going away in about 7hrs from now (I am literally leaving on a jet plane), and I will be unable to post this weeks weekly instalment ‘Onboard Romances vs. More Onboard Romances’ until the following Tuesday. Sorry for the inconvenience. -Superfluous ‘Why can't Mr. Fork and Mrs. Electric Outlet be friends?’

Draco Invictus!
Monday, 09 July 2007 00:44:24

So I've been playing with my local SCA (that's Society of Creative Anachronism) group for about six months now and I just got back from my first big camping event! The annual Siege of Talonvale Shire (that's my shire!) was awesome! The King and Queen of the Midrealm came! There was fighting and dancing and drinking and song! I must do this again!

Seriously? I mean...Really?
Monday, 09 July 2007 01:17:39

Wow. So...any of you on LJ who follow thecortex community know it's the notice-board comm for Firefly fanfic. When I first entered fandom, I was happy to get mentioned on it, 'cause I figured it mean people were reading. The stuff they mention lately, though, makes me vomit in my mouth. browncoat2X2 and I had a discussion about our cattiness or lack thereof regarding quality in fic. I staunchly believe that if I'm being catty saying that 50 percent or more of stuff being circulated on that comm is CRAP, then...rowr. I'll be the fecking cat. I hate to link to specific fics...but check out the issue from today:

Is July a blah month for you guys?

Hey All It's 20 to 10 here on a Sunday night, and I'm kind of in a blah mood. When did summer start to not be fun anymore? As a kid, summer was the one period of the year you were looking forward too with no school and swimming and having fun and going to movies and all that. But now it's actually become one of my least favorite times of the year. Normally, I'm just working my ass off at some manual labor job so that I can save up enough money to live off of during the upcoming school year. But this year, since I made so much money last year with CP Rail, I'm taking summer classes to get caught up with my degree. I already took CS 100, which was a class I kinda coasted through and still got a good grade, and now I'm taking Spanish 110. I have to have two languages for my degree, and it's the two things I don't really want to do. I've been putting this class off for the longest time, and just dropping the class at this point isn't really an option. I have to take it if I want to officially graduate by April 2008. And I've been putting off doing my Spanish homework for the whole day. I shouldn't even be writing this. But then again, I always just think of July and August as sort of blah periods. It doesn't rain as much around this time, so the house pretty much becomes a hotbox. And the only thing we have for air conditioning is some tiny fan. The grass is kind of drying out, so there's no real point in mowing it, even though it still needs to be done. Matt is always gone for some military thing. We got a new roommate in that I really don't want, but have no real choice in the matter. And I guess it's just the fact that it's been two months since I've been with my friends at the uni and it sucks that I don't see them as much. And yeah there's still movies to go to (although the stuff I was waiting for I've already seen), and shows to watch (I am psyched that THE NINE is going to be burnt off in August) and HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HOLLOWS out in two weeks. But for me, the next six weeks is just walking to the uni and taking a class I'd rather not take. I'm more looking forward to the last third of August. After Aug 20th, I have harvest to help out with, Matt will be back and we have our Edmonton trip to go on, and then I'll be back taking Film 400 and 401 with my friends. So does anyone here think of July as a blah month?

Is it just me?
Monday, 09 July 2007 12:23:36

Okay. OKAY. Is it just me? Am I a bad writer or something? The only person that seems to be commenting on my fanfics is Jane! Is it because i'm using her 'verse? I don't get it! :banghead: I mean, I just don't get it! Yall said you liked it before, but now, all i'm getting is Jane. Is it because I said I hated Inara? It's true. I do. She could die for all I care. I hate someone who's just.. This ain't a rant. Okay. I just... comment. Please? Everyone. I need help, I know. I'm terrible--- so HELP ME!

France Tomorrow
Monday, 09 July 2007 14:44:13

Well, I'm leaving for France tomorrow. I'm going to be there until the 20th and I will be visiting Paris, Normandy and Corsica. I don't know if I'll have internet access there, but in case I don't I'm just letting you know I won't be around for the next 10 days or so... I'll be sure to do a big blog when I get back of all my frolicking adventures across the pond. I'm probably going to do another big general blog on what's been up with me for the past little while, I would've sooner but gorram it I need a camera! So all the best to you guys while I'm away

Correction

Since PMing may or may not work on this site, I don't want there to be any confusion on my last blog... thecortex *does* have quality fiction. Fifty percent of the time. I just read Five Drinks They Lived To Regret, by lyrtzha (sp?) and it was effin' fantastic! And Mal/Simon, btw, so yes...non-canon pairing. But in that same issue, three of the fics featured OOC writing, or gratuitious smut with OOC writing. That's the pattern I've seen, so the other 50 percent? Arg. Now, two points: one) maintainers of thecortex are awesome people, who have undertaken a great duty for others who dont want to rifle through all of fandom for fic. How can they help it if all that'd advertised or pimped is...you know...Binky? Red! Slashy death! So no, it's not their fault. And two--hey, I love me some smut. But some smut bookended by good writing please. Not just...take A and B, mix in some non-con, and YAY FIC! Come on! It's not about non canon pairings...I read non canon pairings ALL THE TIME even (and close your eyes Mal4Prez) Rayne. Im looking for good fic. Period. And thecortex, lately, has not delivered. As for TiYBoD--maybe I'm being lofty here, but I like to think I wrote my characters as characters somewhat independent to just smut for the sake of smut. With, you know, thought and the care Joss put into his characters. So yeah. That's my clarification.

Tattoo update
Tuesday, 10 July 2007 12:01:08

Let me just tell you getting a tattoo may not hurt as bad as they say when you're getting it but GORRAMMIT does it hurt the day after... Overall it's probably the coolest thing ever and I'll post a picture when I get a chance. It's right over my spine and is about as big as my palm vertically. I'm not gonna lie - totally glad I did it. It did hurt everytime he put ink over my spine though but this pain... yea this pain I think qualifies me to be a BDH. It's like getting shot repeatedly in the back

Fanfics
Wednesday, 11 July 2007 01:55:23

Well, I guess I should start getting into fanfics. :P Anybody have any particular suggestions, given that River is my favorite character of all time?

almost... there...
Wednesday, 11 July 2007 02:32:17

:crap: is moved, carpet's going in on the 16th. House goes on the market ASAP. Not exhaling yet, but we've made progress. We're going to visit hubby's mother for her 90th Bday. I will repeat myself: Only this could get me to go to Houston in the middle of summer. I wilt easily. OTOH there is a shindig that weekend, and it is not completely out of the realm of possibility that we could actually swing a quick visit, or at least try to catch fruity oaty bars in our teeth as we drive past.... I'm about to drag the 76th into a fic. Where trouble's brewing, there you will find the Nightmare Battalion. In the thick of it and grinning. There's also a plot bunny scurrying around my head for a crossover fic: Firefly/SG1. Oh yeah... it's trying to get out... It all started when I thought about how much I'd love to see Nathan Fillion and Richard Dean Anderson acting together. Did I mention I'm really enjoying watching the DVDs of SG1 we're borrowing from the library? It just makes me sigh and think about how wonderful it could have been if Firefly had gotten a running start that didn't end up in a brick wall. Imagine a full season or fifteen... Sigh.

Alright, sports fans, it's currently 11: 56-ish as of this writing, there's some T.A.T.U going on in the background, my lightbulb is burnt out, (literally, not metaphorically. It's a bitch typing in the dark for me) and there's words to be typed. First off: Tragically Hip on Sunday, live at the Dome to round off the Stampede. For those of you sad people unfamiliar with the Stampede, Wikipedia it for your own good. Lovely time. So, that's a plus, although I still can't find a decent pair of boots...I have feet problems. I dislike them being touched. Second off: Where's Alice Cooper when you need him? Cause School's Out For Summer and I'm not feeling too much like a Billion Dollar Baby. More later on exploring the apathy of teens. I think I'm having a mid-teen crisis.... Third off: For y'all who had the courage and patience to read my last blog thing, you're sort of familiar with LOS. Well, that familiarity has just become useless, as it looks like the LOS crew won't be rejoining. Ah, well. It was a good run, more than a year. The only thing I can offer roleplayers (text-based, that be) is the BDV, also known as www.bigdamnverse.net . You'll have yourself a grand old time, just tell 'em 13 sent ya. DPTWWYB

Thursday, 12 July 2007 17:18:54

Anyone else know Mariposa? Well If you don't it's a folk festival that takes place in Orillia, Ontario. It's pretty much amazing. So anywasy, I went there with my family last weekend, and the Saturday night headliner was insanely amazing. It was DON MCLEAN! How cool is that. If you don't recognise the name...he wrote American Pie. It was one of the coolest experiences of my life. Gordon Lightfoot (very famous folk singer) was the headliner on Sunday, but we left early 'cause it was storming. It was sad, because we all love Gordon, my mom especially. Ah well, we got to hear 3 songs. Anyone else go, or has gone to Mariposa?

I just finished my first little ficlet. It is a short piece in two parts (post-BDM) concerning the contemplation of events, as well as the following reactions, by two members of the crew. I'm sure it probably needs work; therefore, if somebody out there can help me out, I would be eternally grateful.

It's getting closer!

Wow, its been so long....
Friday, 13 July 2007 13:49:51

Right now I am serouisly considering a comeback. I really shouldn't. I am working on a half dozen othr projects as it is... hmmmm, price of boredom(novella), Stormwind trilogy(book series), an as-yet-unnamed short film, new standup show...I think I've got room for one more. I just watched Chronicles of Riddick, so I'm thinking a prison break by the crew. Need a new pilot, pick up a few extra passengers at the same time. Know where some treasure is? Anyway it might take me a little while so we'll see. catch kids....

Sorry to the fanfic writers!

I have noticed lately that some of you are getting a little down about the lack of comments on your work. I am one of the guilty partys who haven't been keeping up on my commenting and I would like to explain! Last weekend (07/07/07) I got married and I just got back from my honeymoon. I've been a little busy for the last month, but have tried to keep up with my reading. I just wanted you all to know that I really enjoy reading your stories and I want to thank you all for your hard work. You are very talented people. I'm not creative enough to post a great comment! I just want you to know I'm still reading and enjoying, and I will try to comment more now that my crazy busy life stuff is over for now!!! Thanks again to all of you!

One Week In. . .
Friday, 13 July 2007 23:55:25

Well, that's my first full week of classes (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are killer; classes start at 10, 9, and 8 am, respectively, go until 4-5:30, and Wednesday gives me NO lunch break). I think I'm gonna love this. I was a little scared going in, but my classes all seem pretty easy (the hard stuff will come, but we're building up to it), and my "crew" (the ten of us in the program) seem like good people to work with. The one class I was most worried about looks like it's gonna be mostly stuff I already know. Plus, the one class that's not with the rest of my group has a cute Japanese girl, who didn't look at me like a freak when I mentioned anime (in fact, SHE was the one who brought up Evangelion). ^_^

Two down, five to go
Saturday, 14 July 2007 07:09:14

Hey All I am now past week two of a seven week Spanish 110 course. While some of it is sinking in, at this point I just want to pass with a 51% or over so I can get the credits. I want it to be August 20th, so that I can take the final and be done with it. After that, it's all downhill from here. I know I bitched about it in a previous blog, but I don't think anyone read the last one. Who here has survived taking a language class? Peace

Writer's block sucks
Saturday, 14 July 2007 07:31:17

Yeah the title says it all. I haven't been able to do anything with "Possibilities", I came up with a substandard ending for "Eve's Garden" out of pure "must put smething up" desperation and have been unable to make any progress what so ever on "first job". And for those of you who are curious, "First Job" was actually written about the same time as "Eve's Garden 3" I just had to finish that arc before I could post it. Which is 9/10's of the reason I half-assed the ending of that arc. I posted "Expectations, Mal" mostly because random, in-depth, character studies and charcter-centric mussings are very easy for me to write. So hope you like the new posting and thanks for your patience on the rest. I'm working on it. Though in a strange preverse rotation of concentration I am now able to continue forward with another Story in one of my private universe's that I had been stuck in before. Mired in actually. Well anyway I hope I have something new in one of the major story arc's I've posted for you soon, and though I know it is not from this verse, Wind to thy wings! P.S. How many of you know where that is from? First correct answer gets a fanart that I've digitally colored in, from the qoute's universe! MerryWyn ~ Merry when I want to be!

Distractions
Sunday, 15 July 2007 02:51:46

Okay, so I've been a little - absent - lately and I felt that I should give an explanation. The explanation is REAL LIFE and all that entails. I am currently searching for a 3 bedroom apartment (an affordable one) in Los Angeles, which is a bit impossible and then there's work and school. I just wanted to reassure any of the fic writers who I haven't been commenting on that I will get back to your stories. And I will update Unforeseen Consequences - it'll just be a little sporadic! UPDATE: I forgot to mention that I've also been sucked into the highly addictive world of BSG and Lee/Kara (you can blame Kaynara for that one!), so I find myself writing Lee/Kara fic. It's a nasty habit - I think an Ficcers Anonymous group! Thanks for your understanding and happy writing and reading!

I'm not going to take it from him anymore (venting on RL)
Sunday, 15 July 2007 04:23:36

I can't take it from my boss anymore! He's manipulative, controlling, and he still hasn't (or refuses) to define exactly what my responsibilities are. It's been 7 months and he's still not letting me be the head of my department! He was yelling at me again on Friday because I had made a decision without him on how to improve the work in my department, and in the middle of it all, he tells me that he's been trying to "mentor" me all this time. How can he mentor me when he's two doors down 99% of the time?? (And, this door is shut, mind you!) I don't want him to mentor me b/c I don't want to compromise my values and become like him. After serious consideration, I'm going to quit my job. I'm in college and over the age of 24, which means financial aid is going to take care of my bills, so there is no real need for me to work. The only reason I took the job in the first place was to gain experience. After consulting several people in my field, I've learned that he is the exception--no one acts like this on a daily basis! It's just not worth my time!

Fic Recs
Sunday, 15 July 2007 17:02:54

I'm not new to this site, but I'm new to delurking. Back when one could leave comments on fanfic without being logged in, I reviewed regularly, usually with this penname attached (when I remembered). Off the top of my head, I want to rec some gen fic I've really loved. [While I read a lot of ship fic as well, gen fic sometimes doesn't get as much attention.] So to start: I recommend everything By Guildsister and mal4prez. Guildsister doesn't seem to be writing anymore, so newbies to the site might not have found her work, but it's amazing - dark and real and amazing. mal4prez has just finished a new fic, which I haven't read yet, but the others were so good I have little doubt it is as well. There's lots more great fic on FFF - this is just a start.

MY HEAD IS NOW A GIANT EGG!!!
Sunday, 15 July 2007 20:36:28

Ok, so I haven't really had a nice long observant or introspective blog in some time. Things have been kinda piling up in this head of mine and I think it's 'bout time I shoveled it out a bit. Been drowning myself in poetry and the like, but sometimes it's nice to just blab everything in a somewhat open forum so maybe some of you can read this and say "Well, look at that, she does have a deeper soul.". So anyways... Yesterday was kinda where all my thoughts came to a head. I had a rather tough run-in with Jon's step sis (dubbed the Wicked Bitch of The West). She's young and I guess that is maybe a lil excuse for her behavior, although a very lame one. She's just so self-centered and rude! I've never heard someone so young putting down others with such force and drive. She started to say some things 'bout people who I consider friends, I took a deep breaths. She started to say things 'bout my bro-in-law who I love dearly, I bit so hard on my tongue I swear it was bleeding. Then she said something really nasty to Jon, that's when I started to stand up. Jon grabbed my leg and pinched really hard. I just don't understand how her mother can let her act like that and in public! My mom would have had my ass smacked on the floor before I finished my sentence! If Jon wasn't there I'm pretty sure I would have jumped the table. No one speaks that way 'bout the people I love, especially not some stuck up, training bra wearing whore! Ok, that was a bit long and angry, but that wasn't the only thing on my mind. Just seems like a lot of people have been shocking me lately. Just the other day after thinking that I had patched up things with my ex-best friend, turns out she's still bashing me behind my back. Some pretty horrible things as well. I mean she was the one that came to me and said she missed me and that this was all silly and that she wanted to work towards being good friends again. I honestly shouldn't be surprised, should have seen it coming. We've done this dance many times before and it just always ends up the same sad way. But when you've had someone in your life since you were kids and were friends with them as long as you can remember, sometimes that hope blinds you to what's right in front of your face. I actually think that's my prob, I hope too much. I've decided I'm done with her. Too many times I've wondered 'what if' and it's all come to nothing. I've wasted too much time letting her hurt me and that's exactly what I've been doing, I've been letting her. It needs to end now, no matter how painful. So just when I think my whole web of friends has come crashing down (there's more, but I don't got the strength left) I get such a great gift! One of my best buds, Andi, is back from her trip to Italy and we got together today. It was the greatest breath of fresh air I've had in a long time. Not only cause I spent time with her, I do that quite a bit and love every sec of it, but the greatest part is she told me how much she missed me and also how much she appreciated the fact that I kept in touch with her on her trip (honestly, they were only a bunch of text and most of them said "MY HEAD IS NOW A GIANT EGG!!") and that there was no one she'd rather share her time with than me right now. That just made my month! You know how many people have actually said something that honest and loving to me?? 3, believe me, I know. After all the crappy, awful, inconsiderate, unfeeling, numb people I've had to deal with those few words made it all seem like dust. This was the whole point of this blog, friends don't seem to appreciate each other much, not the way they should. They should tell each other every day how much they mean to each other even if it's as simple as "Do you know how much you make me laugh!". I have friends I've known for ages and I honestly don't even really 'know' them, that's sad to me. I would love to have with my other 'close' friends what I seem to only have with only one or 2. And it doesn't even have to be a total and complete closeness, just a conn

You know how it feels to have a dream that completely and totally take over your thoughts? Well as long as I can remember I've wanted to be an actress. My dream is to act along side Gina Torres. She's my favorite actress... I just am beginning to think that, that dream is impossible.

Serenity RPG-Good Will and BIG DAMN HEROS pt 1
Monday, 16 July 2007 17:50:41

The heist is being put off for a couple of sessions til a couple of our key crew members can get back to us. In the meantime we were stuck on Persephone without a job thus without cash. Rez used his friends in high places to get 3 tickets to shindig. He, Captain and Jeb(our browncoat/cook) got all fancied up and went to the ball. Unfortunately, they weren't completely up to par on their dress because a couple of times they got mistaken for the help before they met their contact, a pretentious double-sashed LORD Kingsley. He wanted to test their cleverness and said if they wanted the job, they'd have to hit one of the other lords present. Jeb, using his kitchenary skills and the fact that he looked so much like the help, commandeered a tray from one of the servers, swept it around to the aforementioned target and "spilled" the tray all over the guy, knocking him down in the process. Lord Kingsley was impressed enough to intone "DEELICIOUSSS" as the fallen lord struggled to get his footing. Jeb apologized while managing to make the mess worse and squash the pansy's arm. LOL! He got the job for us. It turned out to be a moonshine run to Athens in a little town called Clayton. We couldn't meet our contact until nightfall so Doc leans on Goose's religiousity and asks if she would like to help him make some "GOOD WILL" visits in town, offer up some free doctoring and the like. Goose takes him up on it, grabs her shotgun and escorts him to the only public gatherin' spot we can locate, the town saloon. Doc Cain McGregor makes a great impression inviting folks to the Scirocco to get patched up and they do show up, three main patients, most all have a vitamin deficiency issue and them as waits outside have Goose praying with them and encouraging the Lord's good Word. Doc fixes a diviated septum on a toddler and rebreaks and resets a leg on another patient, the whole time getting grumbles from the town parson who thinks that people wouldn't get sick if they believed more, but Goose is of the notion that God wouldn't give us doctors and cures 'less they're meant to be used so the parson doesn't give us any trouble other than grumbling and we send Doc's patients back hopeful Along just before dark, one of the men who was helping carry patients comes back saying his friend with the vitamin defiency was already looking better, and he offers up a couple of skinned rabbits as recompense, which Jeb is glad to add to our larder. Our resident sneaky guy, Silas decides to check this guy's motives and asks him a few questions, which leads him to realize we couldn't have met a nicer guy in the whole 'verse. Meanwhile Captain, Silas, Rez and Jeb all head out for the shine retrieval. More later!!!

Serenity RPG- Good Will and BIG DAMN HEROS PT2
Tuesday, 17 July 2007 00:09:51

So we were visited by a local by the name of Zeke, grateful for the Doc's work on his friend, he gets ready to leave just as Captain, Jeb, Silas and Rez load up in the hover mule to meet our moonshine contact. Zeke is impressed by the machine and lets on that he's got something of a mechanical touch if we ever need any help with anything. He heads home and the group drives off to get our shipment. The place is tucked in the woods, out of the way, kind of a tight clearing, with a big bonfire marking their location. Captain and Silas make nice with the contact, Mutt, a man of many parts, so to speak. He's the type of guy that makes Badger look like a very fine gentleman, but he's got the stock already crated and ready for our group to pick up, even offering free samples, explaining that they know the good stuff by the way the bubbles are shaped. The Silas and Rex like it enough to each buy a bottle and they load up the crates for Lord Kingsley and move off. We load up the stuff on Scirocco and get off the planet without incident, and Rez or Jeb has the great idea to split it up in everybody's bunks so it looks like personal stock, but of course on the way into Persephone's atmo, we get waylaid by some Purplebellies with a die hard snot-nosed LT and a long suffering Captain who only takes a quarter of the shipment off our boat. When we finally get planetside, Captain, Rez and Jeb drop the stuff off at Lord Kingsley's estate and that seems to be the end of it. We have to stay planetside one more day because B is doing some repairs on Scirocco. Everything still seems to be going smooth though... Until they get a wave the next day asking them to come back to Lord Kingsley's estate. We were all thinking it was just for another job,(we still need funds for our monthly expenses) so Capt takes Jeb and Rez and off they go. Lord Kingsley's gate guards give them some hassle until they see that our crew is on the list. Once invited into the parlor Lord Kingsley invites the Capt and her escorts to sample a bit of the delivery...except as they each slug back a shot, it burns their noses like tractor fuel. Lord Kingsley pulls out a weapon and says "Enough of this ruse!" which is a catch phrase from another game where the guy playing Rez gets a gun pulled on him. The captain has to do some fast talking now and they all finally get Lord Kingsley to realize they wouldn't have tried the liquor if they had known it was crap. Doesn't have the bubbles after all. Lord Kingsley declares that he'll forgive the crew if they go cut off Mutt's thumb and destroy his operation. The captain has to agree right away, just to get away and Kingsley offers compensation if we pull it off. When the three get back to the crew and explain, Goose and Doc are against it, and even Silas isn't real pleased as he liked Mutt. Plus one thing I failed to mention last update is that Mutt has his sharpshooter son posted up in a tree who shoots cans off a fence 150 yards away while the deal is taking place and he pulled that trick in front of our Captain and her escorts so Silas is really not sure it's something we can handle. He wants some for certain motivation and uses his trustworthy gut to discern if Mutt was screwing us on purpose and the GM gives him the nod. That being the case, Silas says he's in and explains why, which pulls me and Doc to make it unanimous. Scirocco flys back to Athens. We decide to meet up with Zeke first, hoping he'll help us to find Mutt's camp (we had a guide last time) and we find that someone's been using Zeke's face to practice fist placement at high velocity. Zeke is more than willing to show us how to get to Mutt's place. Silas breaks off just before we get to the clearing to do a stealthy hunt for Mutt's sharp shooter and Jeb brings up the rear as he's a better shot than Silas. After a few spot checks, Silas finds the lad with his trusty rifle up in a treestand and gives Jeb the coordinates. They hold off just long enough to see another deal go down in the camp site and watch the sharpshooter do his trick t

DragonCon and the Wild Ride
Tuesday, 17 July 2007 12:14:26

I've been reticent in giving any details as to whether or not I'll(we'll) make it to D*C this year. For the record, I'll be there. Why would I hold back only to say it out loud now? A sudden feeling of apathy as to whether or not the wrong people know at this point...probably joined with my wife's birth last night of a baby girl. I wish them the best, and in the same breath, no longer care what she thinks of my leisure activities. (Before I'm branded a louse for all time...we've been seperated for almost 15 months and that is not my daughter.) Sure, it's nobody's business, but I'm suddenly stricken with not caring very much.

So chuffed!!
Tuesday, 17 July 2007 19:43:37

I got my exams results today, finally! I'm so happy, I not only passed, I passed well! Which is great, I can book a holiday without worrying about resits. Of course me and my brother and sister are all arguing about where... Greece...France...Spain... Greece... France... Spain. The argument goes on. In other news, work is killing me. I can't complain, I've worked about 2 weeks in my entire life, but those weeks are in the Next stock room preparing for a sale, and I have a full day tommorow. If I have to see another sale tag.... grrr. Think about the money, Charlotte. Think about the money. xxx

Oo, Stratford.
Tuesday, 17 July 2007 21:19:33

My dad is taking me to Stratford, Ontario tomorrow. For those who don't know, Stratford, Ontario is very well known for their multiple theaters where many well known, and original plays are preformed. It is quite an interesting experience. We're going to see a dramitization of To Kill A Mockingbird (one of my all-time favourite books) on Wedenesday, then on Thursday, Oklahoma. I'm very excited. I've only been to Stratford once, wit my friend and her mom, and we saw Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. It was really cool, so I'm really looking foreward to going again.

Sooner than I thought
Wednesday, 18 July 2007 13:29:55

I thought it would be a while before I started posting again. But i decided I would write a bunch of random one-shot stories, just to get my hand back in. Nice and short, simple stories. Really refreshing in a lot of ways. Wrote two today and started a third so well on the way to writing a few. A couple might even detail some backround to the longer story and the characters I will introduce. Anyway have a look and tell me what ya think kids!

True Fear
Thursday, 19 July 2007 20:18:00

I was talking online with a friend just yesterday and the convo hit a bit of a lull. He suddenly asked "What's going on in Manhattan?", I of course replied like a smart ass and said "Dunno, I don't live there.". But then he proceeds to tell me that there is an explosion being reported on BBC News in Manhattan. My heart just sank. I felt this overwhelming sense of panic and dread. He tried hard to calm me down and told me he was very worried 'bout me but everything was gonna be fine. He sent me a link to the live news report and of course it turned out that it was a main that blew, but for those few moments of not knowing I was in such terror. On the news feed you could see people running in every direction, so scared, so lost. I remember the sec he told me I went frantically through all the news channels and on the net checking every place I could. I was actually really shocked that there was nothing over here even mentioned (until this morning anyways) but in the UK it was reported pretty much mins after it happened. All I can conclude from this is that it was thought that it would start a states-wide panic (if I'm any example then they would be damn right). Now I know everyone feel that sudden panic, but for me it just scared me so very much. All I kept thinking was how my friends Julie, who lives in NYC not far from the explosion site, was and if she was alright (thank goodness I called her after I found out what was going on). I can't believe that things have gotten so bad that any lil hint of odd goings on would send me into such a tizzy. I remember that that right after 9/11 I just sat in numbness. Of course so did the whole of the US, but I had actually been in those towers just one month before it happened and I thought to myself as the towers crumbled, 'My God, I was right there, standing right there looking over NYC. How could it just be all gone?'. Just the other day I found the ticket stub from my trip up there and my eyes just teared right up. Why? No one I loved died there, I wasn't actually there the day it happened. I just think that the thought of losing something, something that has touched you in some way, being so close to such danger it gives your life a whole new perspective. Now I realize there are gonna be a hundred blogs and all on this very subject going on and on 'bout the fear and remembrance, but it just hit me like nothing before and even today I sit here wondering how jumpy everyone must be. A main busts and we all grasp on to our seats. Wow, what has this world come to...

Disappointment
Friday, 20 July 2007 01:56:57

I told my mother today about my dream to act and to move to NYC and try to follow my dream. She didn't want to outright say don't do that but she pretty much said everything she could to imply that I'd never be able to make it. I didn't choose acting - it choose me. I don't feel at home anywhere other than the stage. I'm not saying that I love the spotlight. It's more of the I'm a totally different person when I'm performing. I can escape everything going on in my life and make other people smile. The only way I can keep myself going right now is to look to those role models I have. I read Gina Torres's interviews and I swear it is like I could have written them. I need to be an actress.. I don't care if I'm dirt poor living on the streets of NYC... I'm going after my dream With or without the support of my parents

Okay, Where did the last three months go?
Friday, 20 July 2007 13:48:55

One minute it's April and I'm revving up to inflict some weirdness, then bam! it's July. Granted, we have had some fun and games. The Cat (who has cameo'd as Baphomet) came home in a mess, having attempted to fight a car, most probably. We thought we were going to lose him, but he's a tough little bugger. He had to have his tail chopped off, though, and feels the loss of his dignity greatly. A sidenote - isn't it weird, you pay all that money to a vet, and get less cat back at the end of it? Still, since I am theoretically at least a full-time writer, I should have done something more. Maybe too many ideas stckaed up and got stuck in the pipeline. A few hardy souls have been nagging me to post again, so don't say you weren't warned. Though there won't be anything until after the weekend. Book 7 arrives tomorrow, with any luck.

No more LJ at work
Friday, 20 July 2007 18:43:00

So I guess I will be coming here to write my random thoughts. I'm not sure how this works. I don't know if people can read this at will or if they have to subscribe. Anyhow I will be doing lots of ramblings here. Hope no one minds. About my Entry title: At work I have a TON of downtime. Up until yesterday I was able to write in my Livejournal but the evil corporation that I work for has figured me out and put a block on it. It's only a matter of time before they block Fireflyfans.net as well. But, until then I will be relieving my stress here. Cheers.

VOTE OFTEN

GO...VOTE...We're gaining on Xena!!!

I am one happy camper.
Sunday, 22 July 2007 02:37:24

Okay, well, I'm not actually camping. But I will be going to camp next weekend...That's beside the point. I've had quite a nice last few days. I went to Stratford with my Dad and saw two wonderful plays on wed+thurs. My best friends came back from camp on thurs. friday, she and I went to the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows book launch at Chapters. (yes, we were there at midnight, we're losers, but we're cool ones) I just finished the book in under 21 hours (I did have to sleep at SOME point) And now I'm sitting at my computer, eating a bowl of black cherries (which are quite delicious, by the way) after playing with my two, four month old Golden Retreiver puppies. Right now, life is good. *sighs in contentedness*(I don't care if that's not a word, it is now)

How I met summer glau this week / aka my best day ever
Monday, 23 July 2007 05:26:19

I’m starting to think I have actual magic powers. Or maybe wish-granting plank. Point is, this just doesn’t happen on one’s ordinary, run-of-the-mill luck. Atleast, not to me. Ok, so I know, plenty of you folk have met cast members, but this still feels tell-worthy because a) random circumstances, not at a convention b) the- the randomness of it! And- gah! Y’know? Ok, so I’ve alienated half of you- bear with me, im just excited is all. So, background: I’m from Madison, WI, and I was in LA (from last Tuesday ‘till today, Sunday) to visit an uncle. On Thursday we went to the Universal park where, oh yes, there was the mule. I seem to recall someone posted pics a while back, but it’s moved since then, so I’ll post mine in a bit. Ok, so we get back from the park, I’m pretty much in a state of joy and contentment, perfectly willing to endure the evening’s entertainment- a classical music concert in the Hollywood bowl, something I had no particular interest in. On the way up to the bowl, my dad asks me which of the cast I’d want to see, and I say Summer, without hesitation. So were at the bowl, our seats are way up at the top and at the far left side. So I’m looking around, and- say, that woman looks awefully like summer…. Nah, it can’t be. But wait, we are in Hollywood and all… and she lives in, what, Burbank? So of course, I spend the first half of the concert switching back and forth between two lines of thought: 1) Is It Her? (accompanied of course by both frequent glances over my shoulder, and much would-be ‘logical thinking’; i.e., is it reasonable that she would be here, would summer be wearing those cloths, would summer have her hair like that, etc) 2) What Would Happen If It Was? Which of course I came up with no reasonable answers to, as most thoughtpaths quickly digressed into fantasy-relm… ahhh, fantasy relm… to give you an idea, heres a link to a pic which has the woman in question in the top right (white dress). Looks familiar, yes? *

A razor with 5 blades?!
Tuesday, 24 July 2007 04:39:41

Today I received a Gillette Fusion razor in the mail which sports 5 shiny razor blades. Back when they created the 3 bladed version I thought it was a bit much. Then they trotted out the Quattro a few years back which struck me as overkill. But now 5 blades, this is insanity! How deep do they think we need to cut? I switched to an electric last year so I won't be getting much use out of the promo they sent me. Maybe I'll try it when I need a touch up. This whole thing reminds me of a sketch from either SNL or MadTV. The parody involves the latest razor which has something on the order of 15 blades. The culmination is that anyone who uses it shaves themselves down to the bone. When I saw the sketch several years ago it struck me as way over the top but now I'm starting to wonder...

Nothing to do
Tuesday, 24 July 2007 12:29:30

I will bitch now about how I've been at work for 24 minutes and I am literally done. No livejournal to write in so I am here....again. Well, I'd be here anyway checking out the forums and such but I meant to write. Lohan use to be on my top 10 f-list but since her recent stupidness she has been removed. I seen a picture yesterday that almost made me change my mind. meOW! I don't belong in an office. I belong somewhere where there is music/acting/lighting/film/writing is. Seriously. Sometimes I look around this cubicle farm and I feel so out of place. I'm not saying I'm better than this, but....I'm better than this. I was made to do something entertaining. Not help people get home loans. Don't get me wrong, that is a noble thing I suppose but it's not for me. I should be doing blocking, or striking a stage, or doing a light design. Le sigh. I'll just stop whining for now.

Lohan is dumb
Tuesday, 24 July 2007 14:13:06

Okay, I have changed my mind again. Lohan was putting on this "clean girl" act because she has just been arrest for coke and driving under the influence. What a dumbass.

Hey everyone!

T.T i'm sooo bored at home, no internet or anything. and i could use the cash since i'm broke 98% of the time... anyone got any hint to what i should do to get at least a response...? please my sanity is riding on this!

Wednesday, 25 July 2007 18:24:20

Hey first time on this site. Trying to keep the spirit of Firefly alive around my area. Putting together some ideas for a short additional plot that comes two years after Serenity. Pretty political piece.

Just needed to replace old blog.
Wednesday, 25 July 2007 23:42:33

Vacation ended a couple of weeks ago. So no sense blabbering about it any more. Not much to say. I lead such an exciting life.

Doctor Who
Thursday, 26 July 2007 13:42:17

This isn't Firefly so I'm not posting it in the Blue Sun Room, but I did a Doctor Who Wallpaper and wanted to put it up. I actually did two but the second one is rather spoiler-y so I won't put it up.

Drive - request
Friday, 27 July 2007 08:36:30

As a UK resident, it appears I am not allowed to view/buy the episodes of Drive that are around. Does anyone have them recorded that they could perhaps do me copies of? It seems otherwise I shall be left unfulfilled and sad!

The moving karma gods had better be watching!
Friday, 27 July 2007 13:18:09

So we got all our stuff moved, and nearly unpacked. Now sonny's wee little school is moving and needs help crating up all their accumulated crap, er.. I mean educational resource materials. Yeah, I'm helping. I boxed up the kitchen yesterday and I'm going back for round 2 tonight. It's not the physical act of moving I mind, it's the packing and heavy lifting on a too frequent basis. We finally got the house up north on the market about 5 days ago! Yay! We got an offer yesterday, it sounds good. We are starting that dance of counter offer and probably cave in, then scramble to get everything taken care of and close as soon as possible. I don't want to jinx myself so I will discuss it no further until it is done. Unless something goes terribly wrong in which case you will hear ALL about it. With footnotes and marginalia. Still writing. Two separate stories, plus an idea for a browncoat recruiting commercial. The latter just popped into my head a day or so ago, and I posted it over on the 76th discussion boards if anyone's *really* that interested. It is a silly and fun place with much thread derailment and tangential cogitatin'.

Why back to school , even if you're aren't going or even if you don't want to, is still kind of exciting. Just the whole getting ready for fall and learning and such...or this could just be me:)

I'm still working out the ins and out of fireflyfans.net, so forgive me if I'm using a blog for the wrong purpose or something.. : ) The smileys are truly awesome :P :stupid: and I the only one who sees this :hanged: swinging backwards and forwards out of the corner of my eye..? o.O Well, hi all, truly shiny site =) I hope I prove worthy of the Browncoats.. And I love that there's a Badger Avatar! :D (I'm from the old 'omestead)

I HATE MY FAMILY! expect adult language.
Friday, 27 July 2007 20:14:38

Every last one of them!! They buy me a car, then, just as I'm about to be able to drive the car on my own to get more experience, they hand it over to my little shit-head brother! So, I'm stuck at home forced to listen to my parents telling me that I need more experience, while my little brother gets to use the car whenever the fuck he wants! He gets a job before I do(But STILL DOESN'T have to pay for gas!), he gets to take the car to school EVERY FUCKING DAY, he gets to take it out to resturants, He gets to do whatever he can think of, while I'M stuck at home, unable to do what my parents are telling me I should be doing! My older brother gets off the hook, cause he is not home anymore. As for the rest of them, I hope I can move out soon and I swear, I'll NEVER speak to them again! I need psychiatric help! Just when things were looking up I get pissed about the same damn thing again! I COULD have gone to the gym, when my little brother got home today, but, the SHIT-HEAD "forgot" to fill up the fucking gas tank AGAIN!!!

Reflections On My First Two Weeks as a Fireflyfans.net Member
Saturday, 28 July 2007 00:57:07

Wow! Been an exciting two weeks. Uploaded my stories I've been writing, some pics too, got my hands slapped a little for causing a flood, heard lots of nice comments from fans who enjoy my stuff. Has it only been two weeks since I joined this site? Seems like forever. Lessons learned so far: 1. Don't add more than one item per day..or week. Seems I didn't follow the unwritten rules (maybe they are written but I didn't see them). Ticked off a few fans out there. Didn't like it, but maybe I deserved it. They peck hard around here! 2. Don't expect a lot of comments. I have had quite a few, and most have been nice, but I thought there would be more. The most comments I got were for the above mentioned transgression. 3. Not everyone's fanfic follows the logic of the TV show or movie. Some are just down right creepifying. Jayne and Kaylee? Even Jewel Staite said in her latest blog on her myspace page that that one made her want to barf. 4. Take your time writing and editing things. I tried to post a few things too hastily after writing them. When I read them on the site a few days later I found lots of mistakes and things I wanted to change. Thankfully, this site allows authors to edit their work, which is fantastic. 5. Take a break from this site once in a while. I've found myself logging on three, four, five times day. It ain't healthy. Meaning I have a job, family, and other things to do and this thing takes a lot of my time. Like writing this blog. Hmmmmm. Why did this show ever get cancelled? Gets under your skin. That's it for now. I really do have to work, to get money, to pay the bills, to plan my assault on Fox Studios HQ...oops, did that slip out! Long live the Browncoats!

Saturday, 28 July 2007 21:39:35

What I love about this site
Saturday, 28 July 2007 22:23:00

I had been looking a while for a site of browncoats to share my love for firefly/serenity with for a while when I by chance happened on this site. I know I haven't been here long but in the short time I've found that the browncoats here are far more than amazing. I've read so many great stories (some of which have made me cry), I've seen great works of art inspired by our BDH and just met some really cool people. You all are so nice and welcoming :) I figure we have another bunch of BDHs right here. Each fighting their own battles and uniting to spread the signal. Joss should be proud of the fireflyfans.net browncoats. We aim to misbehave

Goodbye Horses...
Sunday, 29 July 2007 00:20:10

Yeah, there is no reason for that title...I just couldn't think of a title and that songs been stuck in my head all day!:banghead: So anyhow...I feel all bad and repenty, I haven't visited this site in a long time. I haven't even watched Firefly in a long time! Needless to say, when I realised it had been over 6 months since my last viewing of Firefly I popped in my dvd's and watched the series through. But still...I'm afraid that I'm losing interest in Firefly! It's just been so long...

Editing in Progress
Sunday, 29 July 2007 00:23:48

I had been working on a new story, "The Darker Side of the Portrait," but I decided to hold off on posting that. Some of you may have read Parts 1&2; I've since taken these down. If anyone liked it, leave me a message and I'll repost them. EDIT: I've combined the previous postings with some new material--hope you will partake and enjoy!

Freaky goin ons down here!
Sunday, 29 July 2007 00:24:51

a day that went from boring as all hell to just plain freaky in minutes!: let's see we were pulling out of safeway, just about to turn from the parking lot, when... get this, 6 cop cars come blazing by... followed by 2 more... ... then another 3! we finally get to turn off and get to the light to turn left, when, 3 more come jetting right past and another right over the curb!! it was like right out of some movie or Vice City!!! we get about a block away from our appartment complex and they have the road all blocked off! we finaly get to turn (again) and are stunned to find that the only open entrance to our apparment complex is completely closed off... by about 5 patrol units... we finally get to take a u-turn a half mile down (every side street on the left side was completely blocked off before that one street) and go to our Circle K (mini convenience store for those of u who don't know) and we find out that a police officer was shot and that NO ONE was getting in... kussooo..... so we wait at circle k for about an hour and find out (through another person that lived in the complex) that his fiance, who tried towalk outside the house was chased in by shotgun carrying officers! i mean come on! there was at least two dozen patrol units gathered around the place and two choppers... and a canine team!!!! insane no? well, we went to my friends house and waited it all out... about 3 hours or more. but gorram that is sure way to make things interesting I'll say... wohoo! that ws fun, i wasn't sure if i was just plain histerical or havin' the time o my life!!!!! mahahah!!!! but it was exiting! and this all went down last night too!

NEW SERIAL!
Sunday, 29 July 2007 06:42:23

Now that I've got most of the One-shot tales out of my head (still one to go.) I can start posting my first serial featuring the BDH's. Its called The New 'Verse. It takes place post BDM, after an interval of two months. Without giving to much away, the crew helps out an old war buddy in the search for a pilot, recruits some new and not-so unfimilar friends and see's some surprising changes in their life and their place in the Verse. I'm featuring no less than six OC's on a regualr basis, many of whom stared in my previous serial, The Temptress and The Hunter. Two (and perhaps more) will form intimate relationships within the crew-Watch out for a Mal, Inara and OC love triangle. Jayne gets some new drinking buddies and shows generally poor hygiene, Zoe finds a new release for her energies than blasting reavers into tiny pieces. Kaylee and Simon come across more than one bump in their relationship, especially where one of the OC's in concerned. All in all, one mighty fine shindig. And much much more. ENJOY!! Within the week at least.

Notes From an Island!
Sunday, 29 July 2007 14:56:38

Hmm, well, life is certainly kinda interesting around here. I'm thinking of investing in a hovercraft. Yep, I live in what we like to think of as the Cotswolds bayou. (Classier than the swamps downriver.) Don't know if you guys across the Big Water have got any of this on the news, but I am about to enter my second week without running water. Insane amount of rain causing meters of unexpected water to come visiting and bringing its mates. Living slightly higher up, I didn't get the run-off from the sewage plant/river through my house, luckily, but being unable to flush the bog is beginning to get a bit wearing. Husband is in his element, though - he's sawn off lumps of drainpipe, fashioned a water collector, and heaves big buckets into the tank. Men thrive on the whole tribal, run about and smell like an armpit thing; they get to go out and hunt the wild Evian as it sweeps majestically across the plains...no, I'm not quite well. Living on packet food is not a fun thing for a cook - perhaps if I think of it as research... At least it's not like running out of air. Otherwise, Book 7 was a blast, most of my predictions were spot on. I'm ignoring the epilogue because it made me barf.

Where the heck have I been?
Sunday, 29 July 2007 17:42:58

Wow! I can't believe I haven't been here in months! Well, so if I wasn't here, where have I been? Well...over at Drivefans.com actually! Too bad Drive only got 4 episodes--but the DF.com junkys sure put that site to use! Well, now I'm back and hopefully I will not stray again! Kisses, Capture

I'm retracting my last blog, and IGN needs to do the same!

Successfully dyed my khaki Browncoat!
Monday, 30 July 2007 03:19:17

Yes, definitely a Woo-Hoo moment, folks. I'd bought this really cool, lightweight Australian-style duster (made in Korea) but it was a light khaki color. So I finally got around to dying it a darker shade of brown. First time. Plus the cotton fabric was treated with oil to make it water repellant so I was worried it wouldn't dye well enough or else end up splotchy. But after a double amount of cocoa brown RIT dye and a bunch of salt and not too much water and a LOT of stirring in a large plastic laundry bucket, I'm happy to report my new Browncoat came out a nice shiny reddish brown that is WAY better than the khaki original color. Will try to get some pics soon...

Reavers with guns?
Monday, 30 July 2007 04:46:39

I was watching Serenity again last night and I started wondering about something. In almost every scene I saw, the Reavers' favorite weapons seemed to be some kind of a blade, whether it be a large knife, a machete, a scythe or whatever. I can also understand the use of the paralyzing darts that Kaylee got shot with. After all, immobilizing your prey so you can eat them alive has its advantages. Both methods are pretty primitive but very deadly. Basically, I don't exactly see them using guns. Guns need maintenance such as cleaning. Could you actually see them using their dinner table as a place to clean their guns (hee-hee)? In light of this, how did Simon happen to get shot in the end? They coud have shot River too if they were gun-toters. Perhaps there was something else afoot? Hmmm...

Farewell
Monday, 30 July 2007 05:22:53

Like many before me, I've gotten sick of the status quo around here. It's not like this just popped up as this feeling started creeping up slowly somewhat before the movie was released (i.e. when the "fanboys" started showing up). Now, it's just gotten to the point where I really feel that "fanboys" and/or there basic mentality (if even diluted) have become too prevalent for me to stay around. Well, that among many other things. So, my posting here will be sporadic at best for the foreseeable future. Perhaps if the "fanboys" leave... don't know. At any rate, farewell and best of luck.

Rain, rain and rain...
Monday, 30 July 2007 19:03:54

I just need to whine a little bit... This summer has rained away totally. Summers are supposed to be all about walking barefoot, eating strawberries, swimming in the sea, eating dinner outside in the garden and walking home from parties in the light from the midsummer sun. But this year it's just rain, rain, rain, work, work, work :( It's so depressing. When you live up north you need a good summer to be able to survive the dark winter. I hope everyone else here is having a better summer than me.
