So, I'm late catching onto the Bandwagon... here I am now! I don't know how I missed watching "Firefly" when it was actually on tv. I know I had friends raving about it, I guess I never knew what time it was on and wasn't being bombarded with ads for it - like there was for Buffy. So, I finally pick up the DVD.... and watched it in one sitting. And the next day... watched the whole thing again with the commentary on! So now I'm like a junkie going through withdrawal...:banghead: SO, I'm now on a mission to get a costumed group together for the premier; Browncoats, Alliance, Blue Line, ect. Anyone with costumes they've done - PLEASE SHARE!

"Poor little thing never even saw the light of day, now it's in show business!" It being Friday and me being as bored with life as I usually am, I thought I'd reminisce about another story that's been a particular favourite of mine over the years. So I'm gonna tell you all about it: It revolves around Elmer McCurdy a good old-fashioned outlaw who died in Oklahoma in 1911 – stop reading if you’ve heard this one. He apparently robbed a train for whiskey or such (good call, to be fair) and was shot by the posse sent out to “bring him down”. Its post death that the show really begins – apparently he was embalmed and then dressed up and propped in the corner of the undertaker’s shop like some sort of macabre wishing well (without the well) . . .. A few years later some “brothers” of his showed up – yeah right - and took the body on tour. The origins of the body became obscure and eventually he starred as the hanging man in a Long Beach house of horror. In 1976 they were filming an episode of the Six Million Dollar Man in the amusement park’s fun house and a stagehand decided to move the hanging man prop. The arm came off in the move and the human origins of the “prop” were revealed. Apparently Elmer has since been buried in Oklahoma, but how cool is that?? Kaylee would definitely see the bright side of going on tour post death . . . . Is also very like a Dorothy L Sayers story (if you’ve never read her detective novels you should!) where a sculptor does away with his girlfriend (I think I remember this right) by dropping her in a vat of some kind of acid preparation and then coating her in gold and making her into a fantastic chaise lounge. The detective proves the crime by snapping off the armrest of the chaise and showing the human bone inside! Coolness incorporated, I reckon . . .. Who hasn't wanted to make a particularly annoying squeeze into furniture?? Right – back to work . . . . (Oh and I owe a lot of my info on these things to www.snopes.com the fantastic Urban Legends website!)

When I came here, all wide-eyed and fresh, ready to make Firefly art, RP, write and read stories....man, those days are kind of gone! It's sad, I had to leave the RP, and didn't follow it as I should--I found other avenues of creative writing--and drifted away from the "Firefly lifestyle"....hehe--there's a new term for ya. Anyway, I miss the days when Firefly consumed me--when my best day was one I could convince a friend to watch my DVDs. Maybe I'll get there again, because I don't want to miss out on this thundering freight train that will be the return of Firefly, via Serenity.

1. Christopher Eccleston to issue a statement saying he realised he's made an enormous mistake and is signing up for two more seasons of Doctor Who. 2. Tony Blair to announce the election as being May 5th and every person in Parliament replies "Well, duh!" 3. The new Pope to take the name 'Pope George Ringo' 4. Confident of the new movie's success, Universal announces that work is already underway on Serenity's sequel. 5. Liverpool win the Champions League. 6. The BBC announce the release of the complete 'A Bit of Fry & Laurie' onto DVD. 7. A cure for glaucoma for dogs is released onto the mass market. 8. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is reasonably good. 9. I wake up with Michael Bolton's singing voice (I will use it only for good). 10. Well, there's a £33m rollover jackpot on the Euromillions lottery...

I just got to say that it is an incredible day outside. Sun is shinning. Wind is breezy. The temp is a very comfy 75. Wow. I’m lying in the backyard….on a beautiful carpet of green grass. Got my laptop nearby in case I get bored with just relaxing. Hair braided and out of my face. Shorts appropriately donned. No shoes so I can run my toes thru the blades. Bikini for sunning. I love days like this. …if I can just keep the thought of an all-nighter at work out of my head, it’ll be perfect.

Well, apparently folks can read this. I am not alone out here in space, afterall. For those who commented: Thank You. I am new to Firefly, although I am a Buffy/Angel fan. A friend gave me the Firefly DVD as a gift, and I am still cursing her. As if I need another thing in my life to get obsessive about. I used to laugh at Trekkies or Trekkers or whatever. Now I am a Browncoat, and proud of it! More later.

Below is a list of things said to me. Afterwards, in parentheses will be the first thing that popped into my head, and after that will be what I actually said. At Work: Me: "I lost seven pounds last week." My Boss: "How did you do that?" Me: (Amputation) "You know...working out and such." In The Smoking Area With a Coworker Who Has Never Seen Me Smoke: Coworker: "Barks! You don't smoke!" Me: (Am I sure? What am I doing with this cigarette?) "Yeah...I do." At Home After Recieving A Sizable Income Tax Return: My Wife: "That TV is just so expensive." Me: (I will kill you) "Yeah, but that's the one we said we were going to get." At Work Again: My Boss: "Where are you going?" Me: (Anywhere but here) "I have to poop."

In the late ‘70s when roller skating was a way of life, X (Bow Wow) and his pals ruled supreme. But when the doors of their local skating rink close, it marks the end of an era and the beginning of another that sees the boys venture into foreign territory - uptown’s Sweetwater Roller Rink, complete with its over-the-top skaters and beautiful girls. Through his preparation for the showdown of the season - the Roller Jam skate off with the Sweetwater crew - X manages to find himself and also help his dad (Chi McBride) get back on track. .....I don't know what to think about this.

Being a Border Collie mix, she is one busy dog. When we are not home... We have open counter space that we left our bag of bread. She ate 2 loaves of bread. Left the bathroom door open. Took out & shredded the toilet paper & Kleenix tissues. One daughter left her bedroom door open. Took a half bag of guinea pig food, shredded the bag & ate the food. We spent an anxious night wondering if she would have diarrhea. Thankfully not. There is an open trash can next to the computer. I came home from work to find trash all over the livingroom carpet. She needed something to occupy her time. I bought one of those dog toys where you can hide a dog biscuit inside it to "occupy her time." Our other dog, the old boy Duke, won't let her near it! he chews on it all the time trying to get the dog biscuit. :crap: :banghead:

Well, its a lovely day here in Northern Virginia. It was so nice this morning that I threw open my bedroom windows, put on some Big Audio Dynamite (Rush)and danced a little jig in my pajamas. Any day started in such a fashion is bound to be a good one. The rest of this semester, with the exception of finals week, will be relatively easy, so I can breathe a great big sigh of relief. Ahhhh... By the way, did anyone take me up on my suggestion to watch "Equillibrium" with Christian Bale? I really do what to know what you all think. I mean, Christian Bale and Taye Diggs in the same movie? Talk about eye candy. Plus the fight scenes were really cool.

I've gone out on a limb. As a result of showing up at a Firefly meetup a month ago, I ran into an old friend. She's started a biz. So now I've done work, even put some of my creations on consignment with her. It seems to be working, it seems to be genuine. Today I just got paid for doing that ideal form of work, and I cant quit thinking this is terribly good. It just made my favorite hobby-jobby much more valuable. I need to get my machines tuned up. I see that I could become a comfortably funded artist. In truth, I'm terrified. ...and more, I have a friend at my fabric store haven. I found out she likes a lot of anime, she knows about firefly but never watched it. She swears she is going to rent it. I'm patient, I'm waiting. :)

My very first blog! Try to keep yer excitement under control. I'm starting this because I have been a lurker here for awhile, and while I enjoy reading posts and everything else here, I just don't have time to post enough to be a regular part of the community. However, I am such a huge Firefly fan that I probably check this site at least once a day, as well as a few others. What has really drawn me in to posting here is the fan fiction. I have never really been very into fanfic, perhaps because most of the shows I love have several seasons under their belts. Like BUFFY. While I would love it if Joss wrote something else in that 'verse, I just feel no real desire to seek out new stories. Ah, but Firefly. Not only is it my favorite thing that Joss has done, as well as ranking as my all-time favorite show, there is just so little of it. I started reading fanfic as a way to get more of the characters. And let me tell you, there is some really good stuff out there. The fanfic really fills my need to see the story continued. I write quite a bit myself. It's what I do in any spare time I have (spare time? What's that? I'm a single mom to a three-year-old, I work full time, and I take classes. Not to mention I'm looking for a house right now, and I'm involved in a big project for my library. Phew!). I have been working on a young adult novel for the last few months. I'm at almost 30,000 words right now, and I've been stuck for about 2 weeks. Get down maybe 200-300 words a day. So I sat down the other day, and as an exercise, decided to try my hand at some Firefly fanfic. And just like that, I had 3500 words. And I had to stop working on it because I had to go to work. That never happens. I think if I had 8 hours, I could write for 8 hours. I'm having a blast with it. That said, I have a lot to learn. I posted the second part of my story as soon as I finished it, flush with writing fever. Only later did I realize that it was in desperate need of a rewrite, and my grasp of some of the cannon was weaker than I thought. Just watched a couple of episodes, and I am shocked at some of my mistakes. River and Simon don't share a room? Who knew? Uh, probably everyone but me. :banghead: In any event, I am also learning to write within someone else's world. A good thing, and it exercises a muscle a writer rarely uses. It's one thing to decide my own characters will do something wacky, I know them inside and out, and I can justify what look to be character aberrations. But I could never have, say, Mal, decide to quit crime and get a desk job. Not that that wouldn't be funny! Anyway, too much fun is being had. I hope to polish the second part of my story, and keep it nice and cannony. So no more Jayne-being-shy-with-hookers scenes.

I knew the day would come . . I just didn't think it'd be so soon . . I’m on my 3rd series of fanfic and I (personal opinion only) reckon they’ve got better and funnier as I’ve gone along (especially when I cringingly read the first one!) . . . But I wrote a nice first chapter, set up a great story line and sat back expectantly, waiting for something to happen, inspiration to strike etc. and now I’m totally stuck – I really have no idea what’s gonna happen next . . . . It's such a shock . . . I guess I just have to sit back and let it rest – let the sediment sink to the bottom etc and maybe in a few days I’ll see where its going . . or maybe not! Does this happen to everyone??? In the mean time I brought the DVDs of Sports Night – Aaron Sorkin’s first TV thing before West Wing – I’m watching it on my apple as I don’t have a region 1 DVD player and it never came out over here in Blighty! It’s surprisingly good! You can see where West Wing came from (including a lot of the actors), but you can also see the mistakes. . e.g. Aaron just can’t write full-on comedy as the stories are often pretty poignant and have those overblown West Wing speeches and the 30 minute format just doesn’t sit right and as for the canned laughter track – eurgh! But my main question is why the hell isn’t Josh Charles in more stuff – he’s pretty damn cute – last thing I remember seeing him in was as Knox Overstreet (?) in Dead Poets Society – that awful schmaltzy, teen, finding-yourself, coming-of-age film with Robin Williams (*sticks finger down throat*). As I recall he was the only reason to watch it . . . Is he in more stuff in the US? If not, why the hell not??

Yesterday, I recieved my copy of Finding Serenity in the mail (Finally!). I have enjoyed reading it to a point. Ms. Espenson seems to be a little concerned about the card game she claims to have invented. Apparently, Adam Baldwin stating that he made it up has gotten to her. Its already been mentioned that she invented it in the book three times. Frankly, I don't care who invented it. It was a nice touch, yes, but honestly, who cares? Also, the statement that the Reavers in the movie will not be quite the same as the Reavers from the show irked me to no end! What the hell! Clean slate! ugh! When I woke up this morning, my back hurt...a lot. This wouldn't bother me that much, but I have a lot to do today. One thing is mandatory Physical Training, and the other is that I volunteered to run the grill at a child care function today. My back does hurt from time to time, but, I got the hiccups too. And, when I get the hiccups, it hurts! And, it makes my back hurt more! So, picture, if you will, manwithpez, at the grill, hunched over and hiccuping, grimacing every time he has to move, flip a burger, or breathe. Why couldn't I just get hit by a car and have done with it? On the plus side, I've ordered my new TV and surroundsound system! I can't wait to see Serenity soaring over that train in Paradiso! And, as this will be the first time...I'll get to hear it in stereo! Go tax return!!!

Hey all, I know, been a while since I've wandered into the forums. Craziness at work and the Outpost Gallifrey forum has been taking some of my attention. But I have to run in and share the happy news: Yesterday, after finally getting home from work (had a drama performance to attend), my wife proceeds to tell me about her job interview with the superintendent of the Evergreen School District. He sounds like a bit of a goofball (meaning, I'd definitely like him), and when asked what the next steps of the hiring process were, he instructed Amber (wife) to open the door. Random, yes. But apparently the secretary was waiting out there with a contract offer for her!! What a treat! Out of 800 applicants and 20 available spots, she's being put in the pool of 5 teachers that "they totally cannot live without"! Needless to say, my wife totally rocks! And yay for the extra income next year! -Taylor

Hmm, two months since I blogged. What's new? What hath Quicksand to say? Three quick points, then you may click the "back" button without hurting my feelings: (1) Everyone is gushing over "Sin City," which is easy to do because the books ARE awesome, and it's only the second movie with any kind of buzz to come out in 2005 (the previous being "Constantine"). Obviously, there are LOTS more for 2005, but they're slow getting here. Anyway, was I the only one annoyed by every actor and extra in "Sin City" appearing only in the foreground? No one else has a problem with this, all the negative comments on the IMDB were like "Oh, it's too violent," which is moronic, because it's rated R, and what more warning do you need? Were you expecting just harsh language? Anyway. Good fillmmaking, poor direction. (2) Constantine was damn cool. Then I read a graphic novel. What the hell? They guy looks like the bastard love child of Sting and Jonny Lee Miller, the artwork wasn't that great (maybe that was just the one issue I picked up) and though some lines of dialogue were copied exactly for the movie, it just wasn't the same thing. Who do I ssee about this? (3) I just re-read the "Hitchikers Guide to the Universe" novel. Which is something everyone should do. I'm all tingly about the movie; even if it sucks, it DID make me read the book again, which is never, ever a bad thing. Go make all your friends watch "Firefly." I see on the main page that the episode "Trash" only has 7 reviews, and with the traffic this site gets, that just means there are people who haven't picked up their box sets yet. Naughty, naughty. Just a quick reminder: You're all very sexy, and I'll see you in line at the movie. MMMMMmmmm. (qs)

September 30th plans to be a fun day. I had to convince my cousin to move his wedding back because, well, I'm not missing the opening of Serenity. It's going to be so much fun. We have all but 3 crew members planned out. Yes, my friends and I ARE going in costume...we need Zoe, Book and Simon, but we might be getting a Simon because my best friend and I are introducing my friend to Firefly tonight...shall be uber shiny. I hope if he does fall in love with the show, he'll go as Simon, because I feel it would be easier for me to be River to someone I know really well, instead of someone I'm just meeting when we get up to Davis...oh well. Shall be a blast all the same.

Just wondering if anyone out here in the Browncoat community has Duke season tickets that they might be willing to share. What I'm trying to do is take my mom to the Duke-Valpo game that will be sometime in December at Cameron. My mom and I have been huge Blue Devils fans ever since my brother went to school there, and my mom actually graduated from Valparaiso. I've wanted to take her to a game at Cameron for a long time now, and the Valpo game would be the perfect one to go to. She'd get to see two of her favorite people: Coach Homer and Coach K. So if anybody could help me out, or point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated! Xiexie in advance.

So recently my boss told me that I am to start work on cutting a feature. A little movie called the Novice. I had heard of if from the movies producer, he and I are old friends. Anyways. I start cutting and come across Frank Langhella, Alan Arkin, Jacob Pitts...great cast. Very talented. Then there's the female lead, Amy Acker. Not really knowing her work [whedon fan, just not into vamps], I imdb'd 'er and saw that she was on angel for 3 seasons. My brain begans spinning...i wonder if I can get murray to get her to get me inside. Slide my pilot to Mr. Whedon, if for nothing else to at least be shot down by a master.

You know the drill! At Work: My Boss: "Where you been?" Me: (Quick! Think up a lie and say anything besides at the mall) "At the bank." At Home: Random Husband of One of My Wife's Friend: "What this?" Me: (Not this shit again!) "Firefly." Random Husband: "What's that?" Me: (The best goddamn show EVER) "Its complicated." In The Restroom: Random Person: "Phew! It stinks in here." Me: (What did you want? The smells of a bakery. Its a lavatory!) "..." (I don't make it a habit of speaking to people in the bathroom) At Home Depot: Paint Salesperson: "So, what are you going to do with this?" Me: (Drink it, like right now.) "Umm..paint the living room." At Red Lobster: Waitress: "Where on earth did your kids get that color hair?" Me: (Like I haven't answered this six thousand times. What do you expect me to say, these aren't my kids?) "My mother, my grandfather, and my uncle are redheads." On The Phone: Telemarketer: "Your last name is Barks? What, like a dog?" Me: (Nope) ---dial tone--- At Home Again After Putting in a DVD: My Wife: What's this? Me: (What? You can't wait ten seconds to see for yourself?) "What? You can't wait ten seconds to see for yourself?" At Home With My Daughter: DaughterWithPez: "I wasn't talkin' to you, Daddy, I was talkin' to Mommy?" Me: (With any luck, this relationship will continue well into your adolescence) "Go to bed." At Home With My Son: Lil'ManWithPez: -very loudly in front of company- "My FARTED DADDY!" Me: (Oh, I'm so proud of you!!!) "Actually, son, that was me." See, no one escapes the daily sarcasm. To be honest though, I wonder sometimes what my wife and children are thinking before they answer me sometimes. Then, I come to my senses.

So, um, probably ya'll wont understand, because we have, by now, safely established that Ice Cream Guy is a fucktard. (Ex-ice cream guy actually, he quit Coldstone). Anyways. He asked me to prom. Which is really shiny as he is a Senior and I'm only a Sophmore so i get to brag like crazy over this. Also, he's popular. I'd be willing to bet vital parts of my anatomy that there are a bunch of girls who are thinking, "I wish he would ask me to prom." But he didn't ask them. He asked ME. *gloats* (shut up grey...gray?...no its grey..no its...crap...Shut up Jedi.) Well, only problem is that it might become a big deal that he asked me. But too damn bad. Except now I hafta buy a dress. Which means I gotta go shopping. Which is sort of a bummer. Anyways. I needed to share. *skips off with joy in her heart and a spring in her step*

I'm officially done writing essays for the semester. Where's that beer icon when you need it? I wrote, believe it or not, a total of 13 essays this semester. 5 were under 750 words but 3 were 2000 words or over. I usually don't have a hard time with writing but this last one kicked my pee-goo. Compare and contrast these two boring philosophers who are so long-winded you fall asleep trying to read their stuff. I didn't even finish one of the books (but don't tell my prof. that.). Anyone heard of Levinas or Irigaray? If you haven't, be glad. I spent all weekend banging my head against my desk trying to come up with something half decent. And here's the kicker: this essay's worth 50% of my total grade. :crap: But I'm done writing, so I'm happy. I can sorta slack off until I have to write my history final on April 22nd. Ah, the irony. Too bad Serenity got pushed back. I totally would have gone straight from my exam to the theatre.

I went to my church's committee meeting night last night. They have a Worship Arts Ministry (WAM) committee that my sister Karen is part of and they want to do an "art share" again this year. There was an announcement in the bulletin about it, actually, that surprised me and Karen. First just the fact that it was in there, and second that it had her name instead of my name and our phone number as the contact. I got giddy for a second, figuring that since Karen's name was on it, she would be the boss of the show. That is until she says to me, "I can delegate." So, since I'm the only one who knows how art shows work, I went to give my input and somehow ended up in charge of the advertising. I think I'm about to become a WAM member too, although that wasn't the original notion. I gotta work harder on knowing when to keep my mouth shut. But that's not the best part. The BEST part was at the end of all this, when the name of my hometown came up in conversation. Karen and I were talking about things that had been done at our hometown church. They asked, "Where's that?" We said, "Starbuck, Minnesota." That's when the Choir Director said, "Whenever I hear Starbuck, I think Battlestar Galactica." Which was refreshing. Usually we get, "Where the coffee comes from?" Hearing his response, I smiled and said something like, "Yeah, my head goes there too." Then he asked, "Have you seen the new one?" and WHOOSH! Off into another 'verse of conversation that caused the other WAM members' eyes to glaze over. I think our Council rep may have even run off in abject terror. When he started talking about how he liked that the new BSG is darker, better detailed and how the characters are so much better than the original. I got that *feeling* so I asked if he had seen Firefly and both he and his wife lit up. "OH! That was the BEST!" he said. "They didn't give it a chance!" she said, followed by, "We haven't seen them recently, because we've been loaning out the DVDs." The Choir Director at my little Lutheran Church and his wife are BROWNCOATS!!! Needless to say, I did a little dance in the parking lot on the way home.

Why is it, when you're outdoors, and you remember something nostalgic in a positive way, there always seems to be a little breeze blowing? Why did I just spend three minutes staring at a little tree stump thinking :That is one patient squirrel? Why am I afraid to meet other "flans" in the flesh? Why did I use my regular nome-de-net "manwithpez" and not something more impressive like "FireAngelSlayerfly"? Why is it, when you assemble a stereo, you always seem to wire at least one speaker wrong? Why did I turn a 4 post philosophical fanfic into an evergrowing behemoth named "Shadow War"? Why did Wes have to die? Why is it so hard making doing nothing seem like doing something? Why are my children driving me steadily insane? Why did I make a flylog with such a vague title as "Why"?

Say it with me - blog. Now, slow it down - bloh----------g. (That's "blog" drawn out over a few seconds - a bunch of o's would have had you saying "bloog.") Isn't that a fantastic word? I just thought it would be appropriate for my first blog to be about something simple. However, the magnificent Zoid says everything on this board has to relate in some way back to Firefly (hi Zoid ). Therefore, I'll be changing by signature to, "... and THAT'S why I love Firefly." Because, truth be told, I can trace the reasons for my likes and dislikes back to Firefly - every time. Go ahead. Challenge me.

I was outside the other day, and a large truck drove by with two (count em, two!) A-10 engines sitting on the back of it. Living on an Air Force base is strange. I went into my bosses office and asked for a heater. They mentioned that there was already one in my office. I turned it on and still felt cold. I looked up, and a very, very large (read: hard to miss) ceiling fan was happily spinning away. I don't go to the driving range anymore. I was never any good at golf anyways, but I have a mean slice, and the range is right next to the base's front gate, which would explain why a golf ball went whizzing past my windshield the other day. I love Firefly, but I can't explain it to anyone. This problem becomes more apparent when people are trying to ask me about while I'm watching it. I want to recruit more Browncoats, but do they have to talk while I'm watching Kaylee be so cute? During the day, I recieve any number of phone calls from my wife, who claims that our son is trying to a)kill her, b)drive her insane, or c)give her a stroke. When I come home, however, he straightens right up (mostly) and behaves, so I never see the methodology of his attempted matricide. Makes for a funny phone call when I'm in the middle of an Excel Spreadsheet. Just today, I watched a truck, which was chocked into place, back right over said chocks. The driver got out, and immediately started vomiting. I couldn't make shit like this up. The weather in North Carolina was invented by a demented madman, I think. 78 one day, 47 the next. Rain on Sundays...always on Sundays. I love my children...Can't stand other people's kids. A hard row to hoe since my wife runs a daycare center. I lost ten pounds. How is anyone's guess, I went off my diet, and slowed down my workout schedule. Who knew? All of these things happen around here on any given day. Is it any wonder that this life doesn't hold endless fascination for me?

The tag log has got me all worked up about the yumminess of men. I blame ManWithPez for starting the neck/nape drooling action. I can't be held responsible when folks start talking about edible, delectable, yummy necks. I can't. So here I sit, trying not to think of the neck leading to the shoulder leading to the chest...and so on... I'll just keep eating my butter and drinking my black cherry soda. Not quite as yummers as a tasty man, but awfully close.

I’ve been hearing a lot lately about the therapeutic effect of owning or caring for animals (e.g. lowering blood pressure). So, in a vain attempt to keep us all as fit and healthy as we can be, I am hereby instituting a virtual petting zoo. There will be a selection of animals here every week for you to pet and cuddle and call your own. Take some time out of your busy day to lower that blood pressure and stroke something furry… (Ahem!) This week’s offerings are as follows: 1. Angora Rabbit This fluffy little critter is the ideal petting animal for those of you who like your pets so cute it hurts and with a limited ability to draw blood. Feel his woolly little ears and laugh affectionately at his winsome wrinkled nose. Go on! You know you wanna! This bunny is a petting MUST for everyone who isn’t an ex-daemon with a rabbit aversion. Be careful though – If you’re allergic to wool chances are you’ll be allergic to this wee man’s fur – so go for the surgical gloves, if that’s the case (blue for preference – you’ll find some hanging on the door of his hutch – right there, behind you). An added bonus, once you’ve all done with the stroking, we’ll shave him and make a jumper… 2. Ahuizotl This less than fluffy enormous critter hails from Central America. Its half man, half monkey (surely, that’s Jayne?), so I recommend petting the monkey half. Legend tells, however, that this fella has a hand on the end of its tail, so feel free to shake that or just hold it (if you’re into that kinda sappy thing). The Ahuizotl is very rare, so we’re very lucky to have it in week 1 of the petting zoo!! Make the most of it. A single caveat, while petting animals can relax you, this one has a fondness for human flesh, so count your fingers before you leave the zoo. Disclaimer: When entering the petting zoo the level of your blood pressure may go up as well as down.

Got my new TV Armoire in the mail yesterday...and guess what...My gargantuan TV doesn't fit in it. Not even close. So, I yanked the top of it off and put the gorram TV up on it anyways...It was so disappointing. But, after we got it all set up, it was kind of a beautiful thing to see. I know being so happy about a TV is a crappy thing to be, but I am, and I love that TV. Last night, we watched Out of Gas. Oh MAN! Watching it on a bigger TV with the full surround on was so great! So, I'm happy with the TV, even if I'm probably stuck with one huge carpet weight, otherwise known as My ARMOIRE!!! Damn the french and their attractive furniture! Damn THEM!

As you may have gathered from the title, I am, to say the least, extremely cynical when it comes to elections. And this year is the first General Election that I am legally able to cast my vote as to who should be in power. So -- who should I pick? Veritas and UKIP are extremist nutters, Blair will do God alone knows what, the Tories seem to be putting their whole election campaign on smearing the opposition (acting like true politicians...), while the chances of the Lib Dems winning (who seem relatively sane) are so small, we almost need a telescope to see it. And the other parties have no chance in hell. Well, sorry to have a bit of a rant. I hate politics, but I've gotta do something, otherwise nothing will ever change... Oh, well. What does each party say they're gonna do if they get elected...?

Yeah, what the title says. I've been seeing everyone else gatting the nice shiny blogs, so I figured, what the heck. There's not much there now, but I HAVE A BLOG! I don't know, that just sounds cool to me. Check it out:

Some of you know that the women in my family have faced many trials including breast, ovarian, and cervical cancer. So far, they have survived and fought to educate other women about the possibility, discovery, and treatment of cancer. One of my aunts, my hero, a woman I spent a lot of time with during my childhood, has had a particularly trying year. Doctors were worried the cancer had returned. She had a biopsy last December. Now she faces another hurdle, renal failure. Doctors are scrambling to find the cause of the kidney failure and she is waiting for their words of wisdom and course of action. She’s had so much poison pumped into her body over the years, that her kidneys were not looking pretty before this. We hope to stave off dialysis as long as possible; we don’t want her body to depend on the machine. There is a possible cause…I pray to God it is not it. It is one of my nightmares. I’d hate for someone to live the reality of my dreams. In addition, her son has recently enlisted in the corps. I’m not sure when he leaves for basic, but I do know he has requested an infantry assignment. As you can imagine, her brain and heart are on overload right now. Her body is rebelling against her and her only child is leaving home. He is a good kid, a bit too much like some of us for his own good (hehe), but he’s intelligent and fit and has a huge heart. Keep them both on your prayer list. My candles are lit and my rosary ring is well worn.

By the time Serenity comes out, I'll be speaking Chinese. Or at least learning how to. Got a shiny e-mail today telling me that I'm allowed to take the intro Chinese course in the fall. Apparently I'm stupid enough that they let me in. Actually, I had to fill out a form and it was up to the department people to decide if I had an inadequate knowledge of Chinese or too much. Of course I didn't mention all the swearing I learned from Firefly, but I don't think it counts. I think taking Chinese will be a lot more interesting than learning French. As helpful as knowing French is in Canada, Chinese is just something completely different. And besides, I suck at French. Learning Chinese gives me the chance to suck at a completely new language. I doubt I'll know enough when I go see Serenity, but it's fun to hope that by seeing the movie it'll help me learn.

Serenity seems to be lagging over as HSX.com, more than likely from non-browncoats selling their shares after finding out that the movie is being delayed. It sucks. That's were most of my money is, and I love that site. Its so much fun, even if I've been wrong more than right. Nathan seems to be holding, but they really started Alan up too high. I only bring it up because after diversifying my portfolio, I'm finally coming close to reaching the limit of Firefly stock I can buy. So, if you haven't yet, get over there and buy some! Its easy, and its fun! Firefly stock is relatively cheap right now, but I'm hoping it doesn't stay that way!

Still hard at work at my fanfic, "Out of the Blue". I've decided to write the whole thing before I post any more of it. I've never had so much fun writing before, don't know why I didn't try my hand at fanfic before! A bit of exciting news, I got the library where I work to buy the DVDs. We're one of the largest community colleges in the nation, and BUFFY is a very popular rental here. I know FIREFLY will do well, and with me behind the desk, I know I can make a few converts!

Ugh. These past few days have been horrible. Hopefully getting this off my chest will help me feel better. You don't have to read this; it's quite long and rather complain-y. First off, last week I had a fairly bad case of the flu. I've been working more than usual, with one day off a week, and have been getting very little sleep. Then on Sunday my best friend from high school comes to visit (admittedly good news). However, I find out that he's shipping off to Afghanistan in two weeks. So, of course, I want to spend as much time as possible with him before he leaves this weekend. So on Sunday night we were driving around looking for something to do when the girl I have a hardcore crush on gives me a call. She'd just gotten back from NC where the guy she went to see disappeared for 18 hours or so (she has terrible taste in men and even admits it herself). My friend gets on the phone and convinces her to come to the bowling alley with us. Now, I've been trying to get her to do something with me for months and she always has an excuse, and she has been trying to do stuff with me (supposedly) but it never pans out. I was happy, however, that we were gonna spend time together. When we arrived I got the obligatory hug and was then mostly ignored for the rest of the night. She also ignored my friend but in a way much like she does when she likes someone (I found out later from someone she used to date). After we left I talked to her on the phone untill I got home, then she hung up to go to bed. She didn't however, but instead called my friend. Then yesterday afternoon, she texted HIM asking what we were doing that night. My friend then told me about the phone call the previous night and we both agreed that she seemed to like him. He also told me that when they talked he asked her why we hadn't gotten together and she said I was "too nice". Considering how badly her boyfriends have treated her in the past, you'd think that'd be what she needs. Its funny, she's taking a psychology class asd knows about her tendency to date bad men. Later on yesterday she texted me, asking what we were doing that night. I answered back saying that after all the times I'd tried to get her do something with me it bothered me that with my friend here she was all of a sudden so interested. She texted back with bewilderment; I then told her that if she wanted to hang with my friend, she should try tonight, as I'll be at a concert. She gave me a very angry reply (called me an a-hole), and then called me. I tried to explain to her how this looked to me, after all the months I'd tried to get her to come out, but she was VERY angry with me and I soon found myself apologizing. I tried to tell her how it hurt my feelings but she wouldn't listen and just kept being angry with me. She said she had no idea what I was talking about with her seeming to like my friend. She hung up, saying she MIGHT one of us back later. My friend called her but did no better than I. Later that night, when we about to give up and go see a movie, she called and said she was at the bowling alley. she didn;t ask me to come, just said she was there. When I asked her if she was going to talk to me if we came, she said it depended on whether she picked up the spare or not. So I of course came, and she of course barely talked to me. Some of it might have been because I didn't bowl, but my arm was killing me from the night before and the previous tim she scarcely acknowledged my presence anyway. She texted me while I was on the phone with another friend, saying "its nice to talk to the people you're chilling with". I then asked her if she wanted to go to the movie with us. She said no, she had to get up early the next day. Funny how that never stops her from going dancing on the weekends. My friend and I left (she gave me a hug as I left, not that I know what that means) and went to the movie. She texted both of us in the movie, telling us to enjoy the film. She called me during the previews (I left the theater, don't wn

Why, after stating on this website the absurdity of staring at a tree stump and thinking it was a squirrel, did I stand out in my backyard not two days later and do the same thing? Why does the squadron across the road have a static display of two bombs aimed right for the door? Why do I subscribe to pay channels that I never, ever watch? Why do I struggle to lose four or five pounds over the course of five days, only to regain them on the weekends? Why do I, a man with rapidly graying hair, choose to wear that hair in a nondirectional spike? Why is it that you never seem to notice your parents age(I mean that as a verb) until you look at a photograph of them? Why is it, when I'm enjoying reading something, I flip forward to see how much of it is left? Why are grandparents so damn nice to their grandchildren, and so damn mean to their kids? Why did my wife tell me that she loved the way I dressed when we met, then proceeded to get rid of almost every article of clothing I owned? Why write a sequel to a strange flylog entitled: Why?

So, yeah, I watched this show, Firefly. Then it was canceled. Then I got the DVD, and watched it. A LOT. Then I had this daydream.. me, translated into a firefly character, aboard my own ship. There was only one name for it, Oberon. I'd thought of that before - my ship would be named Oberon. I don't know why. Then I tried Fan Fiction. I really don't LIKE fan fiction, as a general rule. But this character, and this ship, wouldn't go away. So I tried it. I got into the story, I still have this idea for another scene, which I know I will have to write. Then, I thought... what if I opened it up, to other people? What if they were my crew, instead of me writing it all by myself? So I tried a yahoo group. I said I needed at least one other person, a mechanic. Maybe a pilot. I'd see who showed up. And they showed - and showed. A First Mate. A Pilot. A Hired Gun. A Doctor. A Mechanic. Even a Cook! Passengers arrived. My ship was full to bursting me with people! I even had to turn a few away, because I just couldn't fit any more people on board! We wrote together, and it was amazing! Everyone was sooo wonderful! They wrote so well, so sweetly together. I got to know my First Mate, and he became a wonderful friend. No romance stories here, just a new best friend. Then he was in a terrible car accident. Eleven broken bones, and two months of near silence. I thought I'd lost him. The holidays were upon us, and everyone was busy. Posting was so slow, it seemed the ship might die. But I refused. I kept in touch with everyone, I kept posting. Then, miraculously, he didn't forget us as he got better. The First Mate returned, stronger than ever, and the Holidays were over, and everyone came back. Then, another miracle. The First Mate found a deal on webhosting - and bought us our own domain! Then, ANOTHER miracle. He took the basic website I'd designed for us - just a place to act as an archive, and a general knowledge bank - and he turned it into the CORTEX! It is SO beautiful! I would look at it, touch the screen in awe, and just sigh over it. I still can't believe that's OURS. He installed a PHP forum for us, and we managed to EXPAND! Things were going so well, I had to open up a second group, so that I no longer had to turn new people away, or make them wait. There were bumps along the way. The Mechanic had a new baby, and couldn't post, and had to drop out. The Docotr was busy with work, and had to drop out. Both positions were quickly replaced - and the new people were wonderful! Everyone worked together to create our story - we had an outline to follow - no blind random posting and cross-posting and stepping on each others toes... we had an outline to follow! Everyone knew what was expected - but not to the point of losing their creative ability over their own posts. The details were still up to the indivdual. And it worked! The new group decided they wanted to be unique, different. In the tradition of DS9 and Deadwood, they created a city. Ok, ARE creating a city. They only have a few people still, and the First Mate - though I loathe to see him leave my ship, will be going to live there. He's going to give them leadership and guidance, and I know it's the right thing to do. With growth, there is often pain. But it's for the greater good, and I don't mind so much anymore. It's not like he's leaving ME or leaving the group - he's just posting in a different location. We've become this big family, and it makes me so happy to see how they all work together. They have a special thread just to comment on particularly good posts or lines. Everyone has the opportunity to propose the next episode - I started the first one, where we all met and left Persephone. Then our second episode, the First Mate proposed the Great Grain Heist - ok, that story got a little sidetracked as he was gone for a good part of it, but I tried to stick to his original plan - and our next story was proposed by the Wanted Man (who has departed, alas, but we will

About noon, I finally finished my last exam. Fittingly, it is the very last day that exams can be held. It'll take me a day or two to decompress. Then I'll be able to actually participate here. Which is rather to my liking. *sigh* Finally over...

First off, I'd like to thank everyone for their friendly advice, kind words and hugs. I had been trying not to like the girl for a while, but lately I got complacent and it kinda snuck back up on me. I'll just try harder and look for someone better. I've never liked someone so wrong for me before; hopefully it doesn't become a habit. Now on to the concert. As it says on my profile, I listen to punk, so don't feel bad if you don't know who Lost City Angels, the Unseen or Tiger Army are. The venue was about the size of Serenity's cargo hold and was Standing Room Only. My friends and I were about 10 feet from the stage and speakers, which means my hearing is still a little off. We went to the show to see Tiger Army, although the other bands were great. Tiger Army, however, kicked a whole lotta booty. My voice is still hoarse from singing along. There was some moshing, which I try to avoid, but no one got hurt and people were suprisingly thoughtful of others. The only downside to the show was the smoke. I look forward to the day when smoking is banned in buildings everywhere. So in conclusion, I had a great time and it definately cheered me up. Things will be interesting when I see "the girl" again, but for now, everything's turning up Ath. -Ath

I know it’s been awhile since WonderCon but I wanted to post my amazing day there and my first convention. I’m to lazy too type my meeting with Jeff Marriote (Angel book author) , If you want to know let me know and I’ll write it up later. Serenity panel: The room was packed listening to War of The Worlds panel with (I think) Steven Spielberg . I maneuvered my way up slowly to the front –like the 7 from the first on the side. The preview for War of the Worlds was good ,and I still kick myself for not going up and asking if the little blonde girl was Dakota Fanning or no. The MC comes out and says “Now what you’ve all been waiting for. JOSS WHEDON!!! The crowd (including me) goes wild. Joss comes out wearing the same purple backpack Dawn was unpacking in OMWF. Then Adam comes out in a long black sleeve shirt and a black cap. Nathan showing off his flower T-shirt. (You big girl ,you). Then Summer in a black off the sleeve sweater and a sequined yellow camisole. Before the Q+A they showed the pretty funny clip –which I’d love to talk abut but I’m not spoiler-girl. All I can rember from the Q+A …hold on milking out of brain… AHA! When one fan mentioned space pants, Nathan spit out his water and Joss said “ I want to thank you. He’s had that water in his mouth for 45 minutes.” Um, When another fan asked about embarrassing moments, Adam and Nathan looked at Summer and she said her nude-y scene in Serenity (the episode), and when asked again she said During one of the stunts Joss kept pushing her to scream and she almost got “mad”. Which made Nathan get the look of “Impossible, Summer? Never.” And Joss has a foot fetish. (Just watch Angel –Unleashed and Objects in Space. You’ll see what I mean.” The Q+A ended at 2:59 and then they did some poses for fans taking pictures. I’ll write more about the autograph session when I not feeling terribly lazy.

Sure I couldn't read for a week, but a small price to pay for this most unexpected increase in my social station. I'm surprised the docs didn't mention it when they were listing all the posibble side effects that could happen. "Just so you know, there will be some swelling and pain for a few days, as well as blurred vision, there is also the possibility of being endlessly propositioned by women and a newfound awe when in the presence of others." I suppose it really just evens out the side effects of my last surgery which made me as cool as getting your ass kicked by a bunch of girl scouts. Droppy

In three different passing conversations with my mother: Three days after I had sex for the first time: MomWithPez(Where do you think I picked up the habit?): Bryan, are you...umm...sexually active? Me: (You gotta be kidding me, 17 years old, and she just asks me this now!?!) YES!!! Three days after I got drunk for the first time: MomWithPez: Bryan, have you been drinking? Me: (You're lucky I'm not drunk right now! How does she know? 20 years old and she only asks me this now?) Yes...and I'm a little hungover, so keep it down. Three days after I smoked for the first time: MomWithPez: Bryan, have you been smoking? Me: (It's beyond scary now! At 21 years old, I should be able to develop some vices if I want to.) No. With my father: SeniorMasterSergeantDad: Son, are you on drugs? Are you gay? Is that your problem? Me: (Wow, its always great when your parents are proud of you!) No and no. Umm, offhand, what kind of problem are you talking about? SeniorMasterSergeantDad: Well, your hair... Me: (Of course, nothing signals that your a strung out homosexual like bad hair.)Answer's still no. Have you talked to Grandma lately? In Basic Training: T.I. CHIPS: This is the stupidest flight I ever trained, and you, Barks, are the stupidest airman I've ever trained! Me: (In retrospect, sir, we are not well met. In civilian life, many people find me pleasant, intelligent, even charming. I see that we don't have much in common, you being a screaming Nazi, and me being an 18 year old, but surely, at some point in our lives, we can put these differences aside and become peers, if not friends.) Yes SIR! At my first job: TechSergeantFartHead: Barks, you aren't very professional, are you? Me: (Not professional? I'm not the one who just unsuccessfully tried to cover the sound of flatulence with a squeaky door hinge.) I can be at times, sir. On dating: RandomGirl: Sure, I'll go out with you. Me: (Hold out faith. Maybe this one will ACTUALLY go out with you instead of saying "I forgot", and then turn up at the same party you go to that night) Yeah...right. First Wife: FirstWife: I can't believe you'd go through my things. Me: (Is it just me, or is my crime slightly overshadowed by the fact that I just discovered that you are sleeping with some Navy guy in Texas) I can't believe you'd bang some squid! One of my brothers: LittleBastard: Locked you out! Whatchya going to do now! Me: (I can't believe you just locked me out of the house because you wanted a turn on the Nintendo!) "..." (There wasn't much to say after I punched in a window, and for one of the few times in our lives, actually won a fight with my little brother.)

Have you ever been a friend to someone that just will not get on w/ their life? Someone who is less than 5 classes from graduating college and moving on to a successful career, but chooses to remain in a young, drunken, narcotic-saturated lifestyle? I know many people know what I'm talking about, but what do you do? Am I supposed to just watch my friend, who has become closer than a brother to me, waste his life away? If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. :banghead:

Yikes. Had to go cold turkey without a 'puter while switching over to DSL. Can now access Firefly stuff way faster than with dialup. Yes, I know I am from the dark ages. Decided to try my hand at fan fic. Yes, this is such an obsession that I have come up with a couple of What if... plots and characters. Now just to get it down on paper, or whatnot. More later.

I was being such a spaz yesterday that I actually stapled my thumb. I was loading my stapler when I slammed it shut and felt a sharp pain in my thumb. I look down to see the staple in my thumb. All the way in. I pulled it out like the brave girl I am and its throbbing like hell today. Anyway, I just thought I'd share. Oh, I just remembered...I read that Joss was going to do the WonderWoman movie. When I heard there was going to be a movie, I was a little scared. I love the comic, but I'm not sure it could be taken seriously on the big screen. Then I heard Joss was directing and I felt better. I only hope he finds a nice tall actress to play Diana. She is a six foot Amazon. I'd be disappointed if he didn't stay true to that. I also heard he's laying off the star spangled undies. Thank God.

Okay, so really it's two hours until it technically starts here. Let's just say I'm mentally on Eastern time for a few minutes. Anyway, in some alternate universe somewhere, we're all so giddy we can't sleep because Serenity opens today! Today! It's here! We've waited so long for this and now it's here! We all get to skip out on work or claim that Earth Day is a religious holiday for us and secretly meet at the theatres, showing the world just how fecking cool Firefly really is!! Unfortunately, we're not in that alternate universe right now. We're here and we still have about five months of anticipation. But I guess there's worse things: Doctor Who fans had to wait 16 years for their show to return to any screen! And I just noticed there's some new Serenity merch (books) out. I'm so bummed that Finding Serenity doesn't appear to be at any of my local Borders bookstores. But maybe I'll swing by a Barnes & Noble tomorrow and see if I can't find it. Happy Earth Day, y'all! Stay united! -Taylor

Welcome back to the petting zoo. Feel free to buy our reasonably priced animal snacks to feed to the critters. The Zoo’s inhabitants this week are highly sensitive, but respond to affection and care. 1. Siberian Hamster – this incredibly sweet little fella is nevertheless so fast, you’ll have a job to see his little furry legs move. If you can catch him though, he loves to have his head tickled and if you feel around under his cheeks, you’ll seen he’s storing up nuts for the winter (Siberian winters are damn cold). He’ll calm you right down as you watch his adorable little face wrinkle as he nibbles on your finger. Why not give him a carrot stick and call him Titch (he likes that!). 2. Big Foot a.k.a Sasquatch - this hairy guy is hardly little and just look at those eponymous feet! He’s docile when approached form the front in a subservient position. Don’t scare him or you’ll see what hundreds of campers have known for years. An angry Sasquatch is a miserable bugger. More than anything though he loves to have his feet stroked, so go ahead, stroke them; feel that soft, hobbit-like covering! In return he’ll happily groom you for hours. You can leave the petting zoo safe in the knowledge that no lice remain alive about your person! Disclaimer: When entering the petting zoo the level of your blood pressure may go up as well as down.

It won't go away. Why won't this attraction fade? Sure, there's the expected spike in interest when a DVD comes out, or a movie date has been announced. I get that. But what's the deal? I don't see myself as a 'fanatic' of a t.v show/movie, not generally. I know some folks like to wear their heart on their sleeve for such things, which is fine. But for me, this is a new kind of obsession. I don't buy T-Shirts w/ vague meanings that only true fans would understand. I don't go to Sci-Fi conventions just to sit and listen to ( and actually meet? ) stars of t.v. or movies. And yet, here I am. I've bought shirts, gone to conventions, am addicted to message boards, buying extra DVDs just so as I can loan a set and still have one w/ me at all times. Might be I'm working too hard....or something. Yeah, that's it.

I just had the worst dream. I was in the movie theater watching Serenity, only there was something wrong with my eyes so I couldn't look at the screen. It was not cool. And then i fould $150 dollars on the ground, and I went to turn it in to the movie theater people and the security guard was an asshole and gave me beer with powdered creamer in it and then someone was chaising me...It was wierd. And stressful. And I'm sorry I missed the VS on the 22nd. I had a thing at a place.

*Sigh*. We took Clyde (if you don't know who he is go to www.directfreight.com/clyde) to meet a lady who was interested in him. She decided that she didn't want him, because her current dog didn't like him. Clyde wasn't agressive, but he wanted to play. The other dog was terrified of Clyde. I understand why she decided against him, but I'm still disappointed.

Kari was my cousin, sort of. Her aunt and uncle were also my aunt and uncle. Truth be told, I barely remember ever meeting her, once or twice at extended family picnics. Plus, she was almost 13 years younger than me, just a kid. 14 years ago, Kari was 16, and a sophmore at a local Christian high school (the same one I graduated from). She and a girlfriend were driving home from the local YMCA in different cars when they were separated at a crossing by a train, a very common occurance in northern Indiana. Her friend, rather than wait for the train, drove 1/4 mile to an underpass, went under the train, and returned to the other side of the crossing. Kari wasn't there, so her friend just drove home, figuring that Kari had done the same. But Kari hadn't. Police found her car two days later, abandoned in an alley. They found her naked body, bound and strangled, a week after that in the woods in a county park. For weeks the rumors flew. Her boyfriend did it. She had witnessed a drug transaction, and had to be silenced. Gang members from Chicago had come down to have fun with a random victim. And so on. Questions were asked, but no arrests were made. Leads were few, police said, and as the months then years passed, we began to doubt there would ever be a resolution. Last week, out of the blue, the local press announced that police were finally ready to issue a warrant for the arrest of a suspect. And they'd have no trouble serving it, because they knew right where the suspect was. He's in California, serving consecutive life sentences (with no possibility of parole) for rape, murder and assault. He had been in our area at the time, on parole for one of three previous sexual assault convictions. The Indiana State Police cold case unit had been called in about a year ago, and they pieced together the evidence. Since she was abducted in-town, and her car was found in-town, the city police handled that angle as an abduction. Since her body was found in a county park, the county Sheriff's department handled the murder/rape aspect of her case. And the two did a lousy job of sharing evidence, apparently. But now what? Yes, her family finally has some measure of closure. And yes, we are relieved to know that this "person" (using the term lightly) is behind bars, and will be for the rest of his life, never able to harm another young woman. He will probably be brought here to stand trial for Kari's rape and murder, but it's not like we can add anything to his punishment. And if I know anything about my aunt and uncle, they are praying for their niece's killer, for his psychological healing, not for vengance. We Mennonites can be funny that way. So what is the point of this, my first blog anywhere? Her/my school has a garden named in her honor, and her parents set up a scholarship in her name. I guess this is my memorial to Kari.

Sometime in early 2002, M31 retired and Haken was born. M31 was the screen name of the creator of andromedatvfans.com* – an online community for fans of the sci-fi TV show Andromeda. The end result of many hours of programming was impressive: a community of over 600 registered users, close to 200 threads, more than ten feature articles, episode guides, encyclopedia entries, and other assorted content. What was even more impressive was that, when he began the project, M31 could not even watch the show – Andromeda was not aired in his home state of Hawaii. M31’s passion for Andromeda waned and in early 2002 he decided to close down the site. Or, rather, he decided to take all his hard work and modify it to support a different science-fiction television show. This time, instead of investing a significant amount of time and resources towards a show he couldn’t watch, he chose a show no one else could watch either. A show that hadn’t even started filming. A series being developed by Joss Whedon called Firefly. The first Firefly related content was posted on 28 February 2002 and consisted of seven threads that recapped news releases from the previous three months. This content was: an empty thread [7,187]**; an announcement from zap2it.com that Gina Torres, Ron Glass, and Summer Glau were joining the cast [7,188]; a reprint of a 19 December 2001 article by Mark Armstrong titled, “Whedon Bites Off Another New Series” [7,189]; short descriptions of each of the main characters (excerpt: “River- Borderline psychic. She can read most minds and has a tendency to speak not only what is on her own mind, but others' as well.”) [7,190]; background information on the actors and additional character information from Trek Today [7,191]; a duplicate of the content in thread 188 with a different title [7.192]; and Marti Noxon’s description of the show that concludes with the classic line, “We're focusing on their struggles, not a guy with a gorgon on his templok or something.” [7,193]. During the month of March news was posted as it happened. On the 6th the announcement that Rebecca Gayheart would play the role of Inara was relayed [7,195] along with a picture of the actress [7,196]. Six days later Rebecca Gayheart was gone [7,200] and, after a little more than a week, Morena Baccarin became the last of the nine cast members to join [7,201]. The only other Firefly thread was related to the ongoing development of the site – a test of emoticons [2,204]. This month also saw the beginning of the phase out of the M31 persona and the creation of two new accounts: NewsAdmin and Haken. The site creator would use the NewsAdmin account to post information updates and the Haken (an abbreviation of the Street Fighter battle cry Ha Do Ken)*** account to discuss Firefly with other fans. Details continued to emerge throughout the next month. On April 1st, Cinescape reported that the special effects shop, Radium, would do most of the FX for Firefly [7,205]. The next day, Joss announced that Chris Buchanan would take over as President of Mutant Enemy Productions [7.206]. On the 6th, USA Today observed that the Firefly pilot, at a cost of 10 million dollars, would be the most expensive of the year [7,207]. Two and a half weeks later, FilmForce reported that a studio was searching for a writer and director to work on the movie adaptation of Iron Man, roles that Joss Whedon had previously held [7,208]. And on the 24th the first potential fandom conflict, in a reprint of a Firefly: Ultimate Resource article titled, “Firefly Contributing To The End Of Buffy?”, was presented [7,209]. Fireflyfans.net was shaping up as a nice online resource. But one thing was missing, people. At this point it was a community of one. Most of the user accounts for the old andromedatvfans site were deleted in March, along with a majority of the content [7,199]. (A few threads - [2,151], [2,182], [4,197], and [X,XXX] – are still available). Of the sixteen accounts created before 29 April 2002 that survive, nine users did not post in a thread,

Are all the husbands better than me? I mean, I'm not a bad guy, but I guess I'm that great of a husband. I think the exact term my wife used was "...lazy shit" Its hard to drive in flip-flops. I'm not a big fan of them coming back into style, but I guess it won't stop until there are a lot of traffic accidents. That, or my wife quits buying them. Damn cheap footwear! When the Tums don't work anymore, I suppose I should try something new. But, when your gut hurts, I've never been able to get to the store. Every friday...drunk night. I need a new hobby. I bathed semiregularly as a child. Now, everyday+, but my children seem to need it everyday as well. Was I a kool-aid stained filthy-faced dirty kid? I drank so much Livewire over the weekend that my tongue hurts. I sat around yesterday wondering why my tongue hurt until I drank some again today. Have I stopped? Nope. Etc, Etc, Etc. I'll write another flylog when I have something better to write, I suppose. I mean, I did loan out one of my discs for the first time. Hope it works!

My best friend from high school is in the Army and will be shipping out to Afghanistan this weekend. While he's not infantry, (he does satellite communications) he'll still be in a combat zone. In fact, the post were he'll be stationed was hit by artillery a while back. It was a dud, thank God, but I still could have done without him telling me that story. Especially since he'll be there until November. So, what I was hoping was if those of you with the inclination to do so could pray for him. He's already on the prayer list at my sister's church (she works there and beat me to the punch) and I was hoping he could get on a few more. His name is Staff Sergeant John Franklin. I know, a pretty common name, but God'll know how you're talking about. If your church, temple, etc., likes to have a picture let me know and I'll e-mail you one. Of course, John isn't the only one out there, so please be sure to pray for all the men and women risking their lives over there. Thank you.

The Zoo and its animals are taking a week off this week - We're all flying to New York. Big Foot got his pilot's licence last week, so we should be OK...(The hamster does the inflight entertainment)... I hope to find some rare and exotic species (preferably extinct - that'll show the Royal Society) I can entice to return back to Blighty with us, so watch this space on our return... "Angora Bunny, pack the very, VERY large butterfly net..."

I recruited another Browncoat this weekend in Milwaukee. That makes seven so far now. Seems all I have to do is pop in the pilot episode and they get hooked. I’ll have to see if I can convert anymore in the 158 days till the Movie.

Finally I had no freelance work this last weekend gone and I was able to dedicate some time to working on the Script. It went pretty smoothly. First draft for the Teaser is done and I'm reasonably happy with it. Of course my two friends/co-writers have to give it the thumbs up, but it felt good to achieve something after such a long time away from it. I think I've mangaed to address the main points of the show, humour, drama, and mystery. I'm not saying it's perfect and there is maybe a better way to express the ideas but as a start it's adequate. Hopefully the others may add some goldust to it. Who knows. I started the first act last night too and I think it's ok. I'm going to try and write a scene a night and see how I progress - trouble is though, being so inexperienced as a writer tapping into the mojo just like that isn't easy, so often I end up pacing the room... and drinking lots of tea! Still we're on our way again. We've set ourselves a deadline of september as the date to submit to the BBC. I think you have to have a deadline otherwise it'll never be completed. (I guess I write these blogs to leave some sort of diary for the project. Never know it may prove interesting in the future?!?!) Ok all for now.

well ive finished watching my faveorite DVD box set ever (firefly) and am now eagaly awaiting the trailer to the film Serenity which luckily will continue the story of a series deserving so much more than 14 episodes...
Tuesday, 26 April 2005 18:22:59
hi folks, ive just got into Firefly (been an adict a week now...) despite being a huge Jos fan and having watched all the series of Buffy and Angel the terrible advertising of his (IMHO) best projet yet meant i missed it until i picked up the DVD recently. The injustice of its cancelation still hurts. Anyhoo im from an obscure backwater town in the county of Devon, in England, its pretty much the British equilivant of the Wild West but with more sheep and tractors on the main roads. Oh and less actual shoot outs in the street- okay so its not THAT similar lol i'll shut up now

... it's kind of hard to sleep with a stupidly massive grin like the one I'm wearing now. Yes I've just seen the trailer (for the twentieth time) and it's hard to explain how it makes me feel. I do know that I'm going to find it hard to wait seven months for the BDM. So I'm happy, very, very happy! Which is not an easy feat at the moment this being exam term and all. My essay is now going to take more time than I thought it would because I'm going to have to stop every hour to watch the trailer (again)! To all who are headed to Heathrow at the weekend, have a fantastic time. Boy do I wish I wasn't in my final year! Be safe, Alison
Wednesday, 27 April 2005 07:27:14
he's crazy. it's the only explanation. last night we made out. boy: "i think this needs to be the last time, ok?" this was the 3rd last time, btw. sort of made out tonight but couldn't find anyplace empty and comfortable in the house so not so much. boy im's me: "can you lay down with me for a while? it's one of those nights" he's an insomniac ya see. boy decides that since i'm a buffy fan, i like to be bitten. now i have a bite mark on my arm. boy: "what would you--no, it's too weird." me: "ummm..." a minute later... boy: "what would you do if i asked you to marry me?" me: "you are so weird." boy: "i wanted to say the weirdest thing i could think of and that was it." me: "you are so weird." meanwhile, the sounds of a british man reading harry potter come from under the pillow to help boy sleep. just like every night. he's crazy. it's the only answer.
Wednesday, 27 April 2005 08:30:54
MWUAHA MWUAHA MWUAHAHAHAHA. *ahem* Yep, the trailer is gooood.
Wednesday, 27 April 2005 14:08:25
Yes, I watched the trailer. Wow. Going to be a long 5 months. Really like the "Can't Stop the Signal" campaign that got started since it shows support for the upcoming Serenity movie. For those of you spreading the "Can't Stop the Signal Banner" (available on the Universal Browncoats board), it is a Flash .swf file, so you need the following code in your HTML for it to show up. NOTE: remove the single space after each '>' if you copy & paste this.
Thursday, 28 April 2005 07:20:25
woohoo...only a week left till the melbourne shidig with my fellow browncoats! looking forward to it. in other news... I am LOVING the trailer...I want to see the movie NOW and I keep watching the trailer over and over...lol
Thursday, 28 April 2005 16:25:19
I recntly just watched the show for the first time. This is the greatest show ever, I can't wait for the movie. You Can't take the sky from me.
Thursday, 28 April 2005 16:46:02
It recently occurred to be that very few (if any) people on this board no thing one about me. And while I'm not much on giving out personal info on the web, I feel safe in relaying some info to you fine folks ... if you're interested. I'm 25. I'm married to perhaps the most perfect person currently flesh-and-bone alive on this planet. She's almost as big a Firefly fan as me and is pregnant with our first child (approximately two months to go and counting). I'm a native of and currently reside in far western Kentucky. Perpetuating the stereotype, I didn't have cable consistently until I was 17. I had shoes, though! Partially perpetuating the stereotype, I do enjoy some of the Blue Collar Comedy guys, but I've grown extremely tired of hearing people constantly saying "Git er done" - and these people don't seem to ever get tired of it. "Git er done! Git er done! Git er done!" *SLAP* I'm in a bit of a professional quandry at the moment - working at a pretty good job that gives me little satisfaction, waiting to hear about a fantastic job that I think would give me great joy for a long time. I'm a bit of a sports nut. Go Cardinals (MLB), Cowboys (NFL), Predators (NHL), Wildcats and Racers (NCAA - Wildcats of UK; Racers is Murray State, my alma mater). I'm addicted to Lost, Boston Legal (ABC can bite me for the hiatus until next season, BTW), and I'm developing an addiction for Alias. I've been told I need to watch the previous seasons, none of which I've seen any of. I also occasionally enjoy (don't laugh ... too hard) Desperate Housewives. I utterly detest anything that has spawned courtesy of the "reality TV" movement ... except, oddly enough, for Viva la Bam. That show, however, is in the process of jumping the shark. I'm not really a fan of the phrase "jump the shark." I think people overuse it and use it wrong most of the time. I miss my 1962 Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight, but I love my 2001 Dodge Dakota (it's black ). As I write this, I'm in an intense battle with my sinuses. That time of year. And, though it should go without saying, I simply cannot describe the level of can't-wait-to-see-itedness I have for Serenity. Great trailer - needed to be about two hours longer.

Here's bouncy blog entry, because I've not slept in 40+ hours! Hope you don't mind stream of consciousness! I went outside to smoke a cigarette, and several people, officers, really, looked at me like I had just crapped on their breakfast plate. I continued to smoke. If you don't like smoking, don't hold your picnic in a DESIGNATED SMOKING AREA! I'm gonna go on the record and say that prefabricated furniture is a work of Satan and/or his minions. Actually, I like it a lot, its easy, sometimes fun, but sometimes, the end does not justify the means? Why do I like vampire stories so much? For that matter, why do I like most anything I do? I was raised in rural (read population of "town" 150) Kentucky. Why don't I grow things, or hoss cattle, or hunt? Why don't I chew tobacco and spit, like most of my family does? Why do I wear so much black? That's not true...my wife threw out most of my black clothes? Okay, so why do I come from a family of tidy whity wearers yet only wear boxers myself? Why am I turning this into a Why blog? Speaking of the blog topics I got, I'm thinking I might stop doing that...I mean, they're fun, and true, for the most part. My father really did think I was gay or on drugs because of my hair. Jerk! Most of my family drinks unsweetened ice tea...I only take mine with sugar...Did ya'll know that. I have very little formal education. The last time I remember being happy about an education event was when I, and three other students earned an Expert writing level achievement on our writing portfolios senior year. The other three were girls. One was my girlfriend. I wrote most of hers myself. She is now the editor in chief of a college newspaper with a masters in journalism. I empty the recycle bins from time to time...I could not be confused with anyone who is ambitious. Code Red will turn your teeth crimson if you drink enough of it. Which, would be pretty cool if there was someone I could pretend to bite around here. Half of the appeal in a new television show for me is the theme song. Strange...yes! When Firefly's theme came on during the first showing of the Train Job, I knew this was my show. And then it was gone. I started really watching Buffy when I caught the opening credits one day. I love Angel's theme song. Lost in Space...yeah, you betcha! Wonderfalls...so...damn CATCHY!!! You can tell a lot about a show from the credits...I mean, Herman's Head...YEAH BOYEEEEE!!! Speaking of which, I was a big fan of novelty cereals as a child, well into High School. Which is why I'm pretty sure that I was the only sophmore with a box of Kid n Play cereal in his possession. Batman, C3PO, Donkey Kong, Nerds, Smurfs, Mr. T...I ate them all, and happily drank the discolored milk from the bowl. My mother dressed me as a vampire for most of the Halloweens I can remember from my youth. Halloween should be recognized as a national holiday and given the respect it deserves. If only people would stop with the toliet paper. How many times have I been looking for the toliet paper, and thinking, Man...why did I TP the commander's yard! I drive a crappy Kia Spectra...with the strangest music pouring out of it sometimes...Elvis, MC Hammer, Nine Inch Nails, Beethoven, John Williams, Ballad of Serenity, Lisa Loeb (More likely than anything else) Damien Rice, Aphex Twins, Garth Brooks, and yes, even Justin Timberlake! Amongst many, many others...That person who blew past you with Coldhearted Snake by Paula Abdul blaring out...yeah, that was me! To quote the Narcoleptic Argentinian from Moulin Rouge! "I love sex!" Am I the only guy who thinks that little dip in the middle of a woman's collar bone is sexy? Why am I attracted to librarians? I mean...good looking librarians? And, for some reason, though they've been out of style for almost ten years now, I dig chicks in chokers. Well, I think I've just ran out most everything I could talk about in two weeks time. Wish is probably how long I need to sleep...But, I have a boatload of stuff to do at ho

So I watched the trailer...several times. in fact my roommate has barred me from her laptop because I watched it so many times. yeah. cool. stoked. excited. haven't stopped jumping and sqealing. tasty. sept 30 wont come soon enough. and no, I was 3 hours too slow to get tickets for the preview screenings. very very very very sad. but that is not the topic of this blog. the trailer is, which I have some questions about. who are these six rebels? there are nine on the Serenity. that means, by my calculations, three are not "rebels." Book and Inara would come into that not category, but who is the other? Kaylee? but she likes crime, that is part of the definition of a rebel. ah, I suppose all of my questions will be answered when the movie comes out. or unless anyone has an extra ticket for San Fran, Sacramento, or Vegas, then I could know sooner...hint, hint.

Hey everyone! I hope I'm fulfilling my duties as a newcomer here and have located the cast of "Serenity", our long awaited, beloved Firefly movie. I was a bit worried at first because I didn't see the guy who played Book in the trailer, but he's on the cast list (thank god that they have the original cast!). The site is

So, very awesome that the pre-showing tickets sold out in a day. Sucks that they sold out in a day because I didn't get to talk to my best friend until after they were sold out, meaning, we don't get to go. Alas, we'll have to be patient, unless someone has two extra tickets for Roseville...ha. If you did, I think I'd marry you. Of course, post-trailer, I'm now debating if I should make the River-as-Ninja-Techie-of-Death-in-Bar outfit, or the outfit from Safe. Oh well. Whichever is easier, I guess... Now, I often complain of elitists, and my other best friend just got into Firefly recently and was all "After the movie though, it's going to be scary with all the new fans. You obviously get more bragging right than me, but I still get some" and it's all "Um...wtf?! Fans are GOOD, more chance to get show back on the air.." and it just irks me, because, I love her dearly, but life isn't a contest for who has been a fan longer, we should just enjoy what we enjoy, and to hell with those who claim they are better since they've liked it longer... ~Lexi

I hate finals week. I wish I could put it more eloquently, but there it is. The bright side of finals week is that once it is over, I am free. I think I am going to go see "Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy" this weekend. I've never read the book, but I am a big sci-fi junkie (hence my membership to this here website). Anyway, this blog may have been rather pointless, but I needed a break from the mindless monotony of data entry. We got a new computer system at work and it is such a pain in the ass.

Just check my unofficial grades (they become official when the senate approves them), and I've passed them all! And that seals it. I now have the equivalent of a 3-yr degree in math. Whether I continue on depends on my physical location after the summer which isn't really determined at the moment (and that's an understatement). I could actually make a case to get into grad. school right now (I already have a diploma in computer programming), but I'd rather go into math or physics rather than computer science. This I might do though as I'm getting to old. We'll see what the future brings. Knock on wood ;)

Two blogs in two days! Party in my eye socket and everyone's invited! I just came to another realization - you guys are smart! And praise be for it. Now, I like to think of myself as a relatively bright individual (despite my hilariously low ACT score - and the fact that I'm friends with a guy that scored 34), and I enjoy in participating in conversations with like-minded people. I'll engage in conversation with most anyone, but I prefer that they're not, as I stated in my blog title, "dim-witted, slow-thinking Moes." That's why I have trouble with the message boards anywhere else, most noticeably the Internet Movie Database (imdb.com). A great resource for information, trivia and other minutae (sp?). An absolutely horrid community for those searching for thought-provoking and civilised communication. Proven, at least in my own mind, by the fact that my posts are rarely answered by anyone other than the incoherent Internet-speak trolls (OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG!OMG! U ppl suk! Woot!) and the flame-baiting anti-anything I like trolls. However, as I'm apparently a glutton for punishment, I continue my quest for meaningful dialogue with other fans of popular television and movies at IMDb, and I'm continously met with the same result. I'm eternally grateful for FFF.net. This community has provided me great joy during my seemingly endless hours at my nothing-to-do job. Just wanted to say "Thanks." I promise my next entry will be more meaningful.

I hope everyone who is a Firefly fan will know that there is no sound in space. Also note that in the Firefly series, there was no sound in space, so I'm just wondering (hypothetically, mind you), what are all those gun blasts and engine sounds doing there? Hope someone can answer me here.
