So how about life is good for the most part? At the moment I'm able to take a more relaxed stance on life at present. I'm excited. I got my GPA up to a 3.0 and was able to get a 3.4 last term. Things happen for a reason. Now I just need to be sure I stay focused. I am getting to return to my job this summer with a raise and a supervisor position. I AM SO EXCITED!!! New Mexico here I come!! WHOOHOO. Did I mention I missed you guys?! I wonder how big Static's Harem is now.. or is he a chain, with more than one? Tootles!

Okay, so I'm teaching The Color Purple to my Juniors and yesterday we come across a part in the book where Celie is out in the garden and then her husband comes out, picks up a hoe, works in the garden a tiny bit, then drops the hoe. Of course, any time a teenager hears about the garden tool, he or she thinks about the harlot of the same name! :) So we're all laughing about this and then someone suggested having a cable access garden show done by some "G"s called "Pimps and Hoes". More laughter. So then that evolved the next period into a new MTV gardening series called "Pimp My Hoe" where famous celebrities get their gardening tools tricked out! ;) God, I love teaching. -Taylor

So now all the tickets to the Serenity preview in London have gone and in double quick time too. Apparently Universal are fairly surprised at this and you can kind of see their point: a show that has never been broadcast here on terrestial TV and only shown on satellite on a minority channel in a succession of fairly poor timeslots. But nonetheless, the tickets were snapped up. Granted, they knew 800 people were prepared to spend a few hundred quid to go to a convention so this was doubtlessly a secure market but that also begs the question: how did Firefly get to be so popular? I think the obvious answer is Buffy and Angel. These shows already had a strong cult and mainstream audience over here and it's not particularly surprising that followers of Joss would want to see what he did next. But then the X-Files was a much bigger smash than Buffy, plus it had just as strong a set of devoted followers and yet where are the devotees of Harsh Realm? I'm sure there's some but are they getting a movie? Heck, even the X-Files might not get a second movie (which is bizarre considering that the first one piled in the money). I think the UK always was a good audience for Firefly. For one thing, 14 episodes seems like quite a lot to us (other classic cult shows here have similar lengths: 12 for Fawlty Towers, 17 for the Prisoner, 679 for Doctor Who... er, bad example) Anyway, we don't expect 22 episodes a year, every year. Also, we tend towards the more cerebral in our cult viewing (shows that are fun but shallow like Andromeda are shown at about 2 in the morning, whereas the more intense things like Angel and Alias have made an appearance in terrestrial prime time). Ultimately though, quality will shine through. Sometimes it takes a while for it to reach the masses (remember all the "hit movies" that were actually box office flops like The Blues Brothers and The Shawshank Redemption) but it will get there. Anyway, I'm going to see Serenity, or at least the rough sketch of it, in less than a week. That gives me 270 days to spread the word.

It's only the second week of school and already I'm ready for a meltdown. Normally, I'm not so melodramatic--well, okay, maybe I am--but the next paper I have to write sucks. I have to find some local government policy and find out about it's origins, ramifications, yada, yada, yada. Sounds easy enough. Right. I've been on this computer for two hours searching for an appropriate policy and I've come up with nothing. Everything I've found is either too trivial or has nothing to do with social work. Urg! Anyway, I'm done venting. I would give my left ovary to go home and take a nap.

have to make this quick... So phil did his thing today. And apparently so did Elvis... That's right our zoo says the meerkat, Elvis, is predicting sun. When did we start relying on meerkats for our weather calendar? I never understood the groundhog thing, but the meerkat is even harder to grasp.

So after three and a half years I think I finally convinced the Navy to give that that handy dandy laser surgery (PRK... the old laser surgery) and it turns out I have to wear my glasses for three weeks. This wouldn't be a problem except for my glasses are government issue. That wouldn't be a problem if I actually worked at a govenment insallation right now. Nope, I have to go to school with my govenment glasses and govenment haircut (i.e. cheap... six dollars and it looks like it cost five) and have all the other students, and my professors, give me funny looks all day. Maybe none of this would be a problem if I didn't have a funny shaped head. Droppy

I am planning on making a Firefly video for the fans. I would like everyone to send me their favorite Firefly related pics. I can be cast pics, pics of favorite characters, pics you've made, wallpapers, anything. I am going to start hopefully this weekend. If you have a pic you would like to go into the video, e-mail me at: 323866617459@mp3hits.every1.net I know it's a it's a long, rather unsimple e-mail, but it works. You can also send me any video clips you have that you would want to see in the video. Any pic that I recieve, I will put in the video. If you have one that you would like to send, get it to me as soon as possible so you can guarantee that it gets in there. If I get one after I start work on the video, I will still add it. I would like to have a decent amount of pics before I start, though, so e-mail them soon. I look forward to seeing all of the interesting pics I get. Stephanie

I'm writing this for a buddy of mine. He'll likely never see it, which is just fine. We've been friends now for over a year, and roommates for nearly a year. Last week Friday he got called up, and he ships out for his staging area to...day I guess it'd be now.... and a week or so later he'll be downrange in Iraq. While we all knew that as a Army Reservist he was going to eventually get the call, the suddeness of it was unexpected. He'll only be out on the sharp end for a year... but a years a long time. I'm gonna miss the guy. So, may whichever dietys you believe in look after my friend Sargent Tyler J Anderson. If not for me, then for his new wife (because of his deployment he and his fiance got married on Monday) April. I know I and his family will do the best we can to make sure everything is here for him when he gets back. So, thats all he's gotta worry about. Do your job brother, keep your head down, and represent our country to the best you can. We'll handle the rest. And we'll be waiting. ~FS

Ok, So I am in the midst of a sleep deprived, stress induced freak out. So, I am going to attempt to convince myself of how much I love the job that I actually despise. TOP 5 REASONS I ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, ADORE MY JOB! 5. Free breakfast 4. I can watch late night t.v. (even though there isn't usually anything on worth watching.) 3. I can catch up on all my reading. 2. I can ride the elevator all night long! (Which might be a tad more fun if there were more than 2 floors). AND THE NUMBER 1 REASON I ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, ADORE MY JOB........ 1. I get to play on FF.net and write enormously intriguing blog entries.

Or, not really. ;-D Last Tuesday (Jan. 25th), I had surgery to remove bits that had built-up scar tissue (leftovers from chronic appendicitis when I was 15 and an accident I was in when I was 20) and were causing me some amount of pain. When one's father is a veterinarian, one tends to think of such surgery as "spaying." The discussion I posted in my last log entry actually occurred. My dad is always thinking of ways to save me money by offering to do something or other himself. Whether it involves a sewing machine and baling twine, or kitchen-table surgery, it's all the same to him. Since he actually had to spend just as much time in school and internships as a doctor for humans does, he feels more than qualified to take on these tasks. Veterinary medicine and the regular kind intersect on many levels. Currently, I'm trying to recover from having skin, muscle, connective tissue, and organs sliced through. I have a nice incision, which makes my horrible appendectomy scar look like something Frankenstein experimented with (the appendectomy was done before the newer, less invasive techniques were developed), and pretty bruises that have gone from black and purple to black and green. Retractors are not toys. It's taking longer than I had anticipated to get over the whole thing, which irritates me, but I have finally made it back online. Let the celebrations begin!

Just converted one of my best friends completely and irrevocably today. And the greatest thing is, that for each person I see Firefly with they notice some new great things which I hadn't noticed before. Firefly is great, and the BDM Serenity will be great.

So i show up at this theater place and we take our seats and watch the movie. Lets start there. Oh. My. God. This was a fantastic movie! Well writen and directed, supurbly acted (not a single bad performance in the whole thing), interesting cinamatography, it was just GREAT. It was kind of firefly-esqe in that it was charchter driven, the acting was really natural, you beleved that these charchters had a history together and that they actually had chemestry. There was even a scene were they all sat around a table together eating chineese food (with chopsticks). It was a drama, but there were a lot of good jokes. (At one point, one of the charchters comes on screen without a shirt on, and somebody asks him where it is and he says, very deadpan like its no big deal, "There's no toilet paper in the bathroom.") Afterwards, Morena, the director, and another one of the actors came onstage and did a little Q&A. Morena spoke very briefly about Serenity (just that she was in it), and somebody behind me cheered, so i guess i wasn't the ONLY browncoat. Another noteworthy thing about this part was that this little old lady stepped up to the mic and said, "I am a heterosexual grandmother who just feel absolutly in love with your simle." It was cute. Durring the interview, Morena also said that her whole family is in some way affiliated with acting or directing (her mother once breast-fed her onstage, durring a show in front of a live audince when she was about 6 months old.) So becoming an actress was a really natural thing for her. Also, she was born in Brazil. After THAT part was over and she was comming offstage I went up to her and said, "I'm a browncoat, and I would beat myself up forever if I didn't come say something to you." She goes, "Oh wow, you guys are everywhere." She asked me what my name was and shook my hand (Morena touched my hand! I'm never washing it!), then I said, "Is Serenity incredible?" And she goes, "Yes, its fantastic! You're going to love it!" "All my questions get answered, right?" "Yes! And the action sequences are just incredible." "I almost cried when i found out that it got pushed back." "Oh me too! But it'll be much better for it to open in September. Its just a better time." And that was basicly it. It was really spiffy, and EVERYBODY needs to see this movie! Its called Way Off Broadway, and it opens in LA sometime in march.

I just got the internet on my pc at home. I can't tell you how much this simplifies my life. I no longer have to go to the library to check my e-mail. I can even do research. I'm very happy now. Also, I found a policy to right about, so I'm no longer freaking out about it. By the way, thanks for the pep-talk Taylor. I felt a little surly about it at first, but now I realize, I may just have needed a swift kick. We all need a swift kick once in while. It's my Dad's birthday today. He turned 58. They had a party last night for him and it went on until the wee hours of the night. Now my step-mother is all hung over. It's pretty sad when you parents have a more interesting social life than you do. Anyway, I'm off to see Boogey man. I heard it wasn't very good, but it's a Sunday afternoon and I'm bored, so...

I was really excited to see that Nature has decided to include some Science Fiction. Their first offering wasn't as good as many of the fanfics I've read at this, hopefully it will improve. Anyone interested can see for themselves (if the link doesn't work you may have to copy the link and paste it into your browser's address window)

This isn't so much worthy of a chat-type-topic, as just a little blog for me and maybe you, if you're interested in that sort of thing. Super Bowl XXXIX, for all intents and purposes, was a winner. Tight game. All the rest of the stuff around it, bluntly, sucked. Don't argue with me. It did. Song, hype, packaging, blah. Commercials too. With the following exceptions: BEST SUPER BOWL COMMERCIAL, 2005: __ Second Runner Up: The Ford Truck Commercial, where all the bikers roll up to the restaurant, and they're all like, "(nervous) I don't think we should stop here," and the other biker is all, "The salad bar at the next restaurant is pretty good, I hear...." Funnier because I thought there were a bunch of minivans out front; after it ended my friends pointed out those were Ford Trucks. That's less funny, but still a good idea. __ First Runner Up: Tough call, but the NFL commercial for itself, with all the talent singing. It was awkward enough to see all the players trying to carry "Tomorrow, Tomorrow," from Annie, but when they hit Jon Gruden, I just lost it. He is the gruffest, scariest lookin' dude (who looks like he was just adorable at age 10), and not only did he try to sing, but he looked nervous as %^$# when he was doin' it. Now that's comedy. __ Winner: Everyone's going to pick this tomorrow, but damn, that really was Brad Pitt plugging Heineken. Even as I was watching it, I knew I would never, ever see this commercial again. Thumbs up. Rock on. Peace out. (qs)

I've got the flu. I just spent all weekend lying wrapped up in blankets and coughing and groaning, and my 'Wash''s sympathy is totally used up. I've been told not complain any more - but mentioning it in passing on fireflyfans isn't moaning, right? Besides, I really do deserve that sympathy, honest. I was so weak I even turned down the offer to watch Buffy and eat chocolate last night, in favour of going to sleep (we're up to season five. I'd forgotten how good it was - my memory had been overshadowed by being disappointed that Dawn didn't turn out to be evil. I have a younger sister and it would be a much easier solution for her to be evil rather than for Buffy and Dawn to have to learn to live together...) Anyway I felt I needed to add a little more on here after I edited all my earlier entries about work. It's not that I'm paranoid, just careful... though given that at one point my boss was stunned by my screensaver and I spent ten minutes explaining to her how to get one on her computer, I think I was pretty safe that they weren't going to check everything. It wasn't an all-bad place anyway. I suppose. One of my friends emailed me today and said I sounded like a character in an eighteenth-century novel to them: retiring to the countryside in order to get well. Except with internet and DVDs and stuff. Hey, that's kind of like Firefly: an old historical concept (Westerns) with something modern (space). Think Joss Whedon would be interested in writing about someone who spends all day at home sick or occasionally going for gentle walks in the fresh air?? Sympathy, come on! Oh, by the way, I'm going to London tomorrow, going to see some test screening of some movie. What do you mean, definitely no sympathy now? I was feeling a bit down about it though (must of been the flu) as a couple people had posted comments about how fans didn't understand it wasn't an event for them, it was a marketing device to try and find out how well the film would do. I was feeling excited about seeing the film, and also about going to a test screening as I've never seen one before and I thought it would be really interesting to see more of the process of making / editing a film. I haven't seen too much of that before, just since I got a DVD player really (which was quite recently), and I was never a big TV watcher. Actually, when I grew up we still had a b&w TV when everyone else had colour. Watching snooker was fun. Ooh, and I remember watching my first ever film too - there was only one cinema near where I grew up, and it was in town (we were just outside) and we didn't have a car and it was a bit rough at night... anyway, it wasn't till we visited relatives in the city that I went to the cinema. My first ever film was Care Bears. I think it was even the sequel. I couldn't believe it, I thought it was real: remember, I'd never even seen colour TV at this point. I thought it was like the theatre and the pictures came out of the wings... The second film I ever saw was 'Return to Oz', which my friend's mum took us to for my friend's birthday. It was absolutely terrifying. I watched it again a few years ago on video, and it was still pretty scarey... I forget what my point was exactly. Just that films are so exciting. I'm the person who sits dead silent at the cinema, completely focused on the screen. I love watching films. It's magical, watching a story which so many people have worked on together. Those comments I read, which seemed a little patronising (none of them were on this site, by the way), about how Firefly fans had 'got it wrong' with their attitudes to a test screening seemed to take a little of the magic away. Or something. Anyway, it made me a little sad. But perhaps that was the flu. Maybe I just need more sympathy...

I don't know how to love him What to do How to move him I've been changed Yes really changed In these past few days when I've seen myself I seem like someone else I don't know how to take this I don't see why he moves me He's a man He's just a man And I've had so many men before In very many ways He's just one more Should I bring him down Should I scream and shout Should I speak of love Let my feelings out I never thought I'd come to this What's it all about? Don't you think it's rather funny I should be in this position I'm the one Who's always been So calm, so cool No lover's fool Running every show He scares me so I never thought I'd come to this What's it all about? Yet... If he said he loved me I'd be lost I'd be frightened I couldn't cope Just couldn't cope I'd turn my head I'd back away I wouldn't want to know He scares me so I want him so I love his so... Was randomly singing that...and came to the conclusion that it can work for both Inara on Mal and Kaylee on Simon. Both have been around...Inara more so, and how their feelings for the respective guys are like that. I mean, we all know how Inara is and how she won't say anything about Mal...but Kaylee, for all her flirting and hoping, I think if Simon actually said something, she'd be freaked out...just the musings of the girl obsessed with musicals...perhaps I'll make a song fic with this song. Once I finish "Just Like Any Girl Would Be", which I still need to figure out how to continue.Oy. :banghead:

I suppose it has finally struck home. Some 234 days out from the premier.... and despite everything that's been said, or what I've heard, etc... reading bits and pieces of spoilers has made me come to the conclusion that our quaint lil Firefly show really is gone - for good. And I miss it. Sure, the ship and her crew will be on the big screen come next Fall, but it won't be the same. Seems so many of the little things that set Firefly apart will be white washed and pushed aside. It's not a question of whether or not I'll go SEE the BDM. And I'll probably like it ... I hope I do. But I can't help but think about what would have happened to our BDH's in the series and how things are now irrevocably altered . Sure this or that might have very well played out as it does in the movie, but it would have taken time. Charachters would have moved on in one fashion or another, but I sense that things in the movie are now greatly hastened. And losing that part of the story is tough to take, even if we get to see a little more ..before the end. " Yeah, but were it not for the movie, we'd NEVER see 'em fly again.... ". I know, I know. It's just that it won't be the same. Not in some ways, it won't. I'm sure we'll see flashes of this or that which will *seem* familar.....but as for Black Market Beagals, Shan U, Stupid hats and ...well, that 'special hell'. Too many to count. I know....can't please anyone if you try to please everyone. ....still, glad I got those DVDs

I did me some math. I cant believe I actually figured it out, but years of failing every math class from geometry to basic functions is finally paying off. Perhaps declaring myself the new calculus master of the universe is a bit premature, but I'm giving Issac Newton notice. Now of to the gym to humble my mighty intelect with a pair of fifteen pound dumbells. They don't sound like they'd be heavy...

Straight to the point, I can't wait fot the BDM, just in case the fact that I'm here and writing this didn't tell you that anyway. I can't help but feel, however, that my thirst for knowledge has somehow let me down. I have never been one to avoid spoilers. I like to know all I can about the things I am interested in and enjoy, so I read most of what is here on this site. Yesterday I was reading the questions directed at the people who have seen the screenings and the answers they provided and my reaction to them has got me worried. Usually reading the spoilers makes me yern for the time when I can see those things for myself, but the opposite has happened with Serenity. Where has my enthusiasm gone? Don't get me wrong I'm still wishing away the months until release and plotting ways of making money so I can afford to fly out to America to watch it. So I don't have to wait those couple of extra months until the British release. But the spoilers arn't tideing me over! I want the show we all know and love back no matter how futile that may be. I'm not sure if, (as much as I hate to think it) my imagination has caused part of the problem. It has been making up lives for these characters and may now have convinced itself that Joss and Co. are going to have to work mighty hard to rival that! Anyway, I somehow come away from this looking slightly weird and I promise I'm not! The conclusion I have reached is no more spoilers for me. In fact I'm not even going to let myself think about it for another 5 months. (yeah right) Trust in Joss, and even if I'm dissapointed a movie is better than nothing at all! I'm off to do my reading for my lecture which is in 10 hours. ...I guess my thirst for knowledge got the better of me after all! Alison

Alright, for this tastiest of breakfasts, you need the following: 3 eggs 4 slices bacon black pepper minced garlic cheese(sliced or shredded) 1 large non-stick pan 1 bottle of your favorite beer Set the eye of your stove to med-hi. As the pan warms, pour in just enough beer to cover the bottom of the pan. Set your bacon in the beer. Dash garlic and pepper on the bacon as it cooks to taste. Cook the bacon to your preffered level (chewy or crispy). I find pork bacon works best, as turkey bacon tends to lack the fat for better cooking, but it will work. Once your bacon is done, set the eye to warm or low. Set the bacon on a plate covered with a paper towel. Pour in more beer, just enough to coat the bottom of the pan. Add garlic and pepper for taste. Crack open the three eggs and scramble them in the pan with a fork. Add cheese to taste. Once the eggs are finished, put 'em on a plate with the bacon. And there you go. This can serve two, but it serves one for me. Just assume it serves two. Toast with jelly, juice, and milk make excellent sides.

after 6 years of being a freelancer, i decided to get a frequent pay and frequent work job!!! bit my tongue. went through orientation, many computer 'lessons' on the in-store modules, and have worked the register. i believe with all my heart, they try to brain-wash you. but now i get to see the inner workings. they try. had a ffm (firefly moment) when one of the module lessons asked what made a great store, there were 3 choices, one was 'clean', the second was 'shiney', and the third, i don't remember. i almost picked shiney. but then i'd have to take the test all over again for not getting a passing score.

watched it to celebrate getting a new job! i liked it. was dreading to go see it at the theatre. but now, wish i'd have been able to catch it in the theatres. turned around and made a night of it by watching the commentary version too. AT was great. husband didn't really notice it was him- good acting! will smith, my goodness with all the spec. effects, he acted great (i mean, really, it must be tough acting to tennis balls and guys with light teets without laughing)! liked that actor (with that cool name) from holes (and other stuff), unfortunate that his cut scenes weren't on the dvd. and it seems like so long ago since i've been working ever since first seeing it, tempted to watch it again before returning to the vid store!

Okay, Firefly is great, I love my science fiction, I love reading and rock and roll and all that great stuff. So then is it strange and wrong of me to like Gilmore Girls? I mean, really. My wife started watching the reruns on ABC Family a few weeks ago and I wasn't keen on seeing it at first, but I happened to be in the room one evening while she was watching it and all I could hear was the dialogue. Oh! My! Gawd! The writing on that show is awesome. It's quick, it's literate, it's witty! So the next day, I'm sitting there on the couch watching it. I mean, I'm hooked. It's really a well done show! I am a guy. And I like watching Gilmore Girls. Is that wrong?

killing time at work. Got to go to the supermarket later and pilfer a box. I'm so pathetic. Anyway - if I can hunt and gather my old lecturers together for references, and apply, and get accepted I may be going back to uni, Environmental Anthropology here I come! Please, Gobefores, let the next time I read this be "end of paragraph distraction from essay writing".

White Wine Chicken Fettucini Alfredo This recipe is for three, though I find it feeds two really hungry people. And while you could go store brand or cheap brand, I find that the better ingredients are sometimes more expensive, but well worth it. Alfredo Sauce: 4 oz. cream cheese 1/2 cup milk 1/2 cup parmesean/romano cheese 2 tbsp butter 1-2 tsp garlic Chicken: 3 whole boneless chicken breasts or 6-8 strips chicken breast Marinade: 1/2 cup white wine 1 cup Italian dressing of choice (I suggest one with cheese) Pasta: 12-16 oz. of your favorite fettucini Beginning 8-24 hours before cooking, mix the wine and the dressing in a measuring cup. Stir lightly. Pour about 1/2 cup of your marinade into a suitably sized container. Clean the chicken and place in the container, then cover the chicken in the remaining cup of marinade or until the container is full. Place in the refridgerator. Place sauce ingredients into a sauce pan and cook on low heat, stirring regularly, for about 15 minutes. While the sauce cooks, take out the chicken and cook it, preferably in a non-stick pan, until done. There will be no need to grease the pan, just use a little bit of the marinade. Save the marinade. Once the chicken is done, place it on a heated plate and cover. Deglaze the chicken pan with the rest of the marinade on a low heat for 8-10 minutes. Set a large pot to boil. Once the water comes to a boil, place the fettucini in with a pinch of salt. Pour the contents into the sauce pan, stirring gently. Once the noodles are done, strain. Serve chicken over the fettucini, cover with sauce. Serves 3, or 2 hungry.

:fork: ok people, i am now officialy ready to take on the tv networks... all those in favour of creating mahem, :blast: chaos :blast: and an 'all-joss-all-the-time' station say "aye" AYE:biggrin: yes the aye's have it!! i now dont get to see what happened to my beloved crew because the southern cross television network in Tasmania Australia is headded by a talking chimpanzee :bash: and info-mercial loving skunks :pissed: who have an unnatural affinity with all things crappy!!! :banghead: i think i have already ranted about this elsewhere, but anyway... WHY DO THE CORPORATE BIGWIGS STUFF FETTA CHEESE IN THEIR EARS WHEN PEOPLE SAY THAT THEY LIKE THINGS???????? i mean realy? first of all they haf firefly on at one am aeds. then they moved it to 12.30 am... then to twelve am and twice a week. they didnt advertise any of the changes except in the t.v. guide, and i dont get the paper so i never saw it.... i am sooooooooo angry! the abc (australian broadcasting corporation) have re-runs of the re-runs of "doctor who" at six pm monday through friday, i remember the last time they had them on (i was about 14-16 and the time before that i was about 8) and every time they were on at six pm... how come the commercial stations cant stick to their guns like that??? i say that the wheedonists and sci-fi/fantasy fans should stand up for their gods given right to decent t.v. programmes at decent hours!!! stand tall, fight hard, die for the cause..... or just write lots of letters to the tv network skunks to get them back where they belong. anyone know where i can get the postal address for FOX???

Converts. Yah. You know what I mean. Those guys who sit down infront of the TV with you, when you trick, coddle or force them to watch your Firefly DVDs with ya. (I make a bet with them myself. If they can watch Serenity and not be intreguied enough to check out the next episode, I'll buy them dinner. Of the now 8 people I've done this too... I've yet to buy dinner.) I'm up to 8 now. Not a huge number, and I didn't originally intend to keep count. But while I realize I'm preaching to the proverbial choir here, these are friends of mine. Friends who when I explain the series to them, *are not* particularly interested. All it takes is Serenity 1 and 2. (Well ok, I do trick them into watching 2 eps without them knowing it ;)) And they're hooked. I'm mentioning this cause on a whim, I've been searching for any word of a Serenity toyline. I work for Toys R Us, and since we have toys for virtually every other half decent sci-fi movie ever made (And more then a few horrid ones) I've been curious if we can be seeing a Blue Sun toyline before the BDM. So far I've come up dry. But what I am finding is amazing support for Firefly. You'll see someone post something like how they don't think Firefly should be considered Sci-fi (And in general, these are flamers to FF boards, which in and of itself is foolish.) But the arguements for and against are valid, and it never seems to surprise me when you eventually find that the people who don't think the series is worth anything have never seen an entire episode... Only seen the DVD set and read the back... or at worst, read a review somewhere and made there assumptions. Folks who can be convinced to sit down and simply watch, all come away with SOMETHING they like. This is my theory. Not that Firefly is perfect (cause its not) but that its got a little something for everyone, and thusly is why it has such a fanbase. So I'm gonna test my theory. On the two hardest targets to convert known to man. Parents. Specifically mine. Neither is particularly computer savy, they aren't sci-fi fans... and they're very picky about thier entertainment for different reasons. Now you have to realize just how difficult a task I've set before myself. I've been a Star Wars fan for better then 15 years. (Yah, I know, SW has been around for more then that. But I didn't see the movies til I was 8) My parents have never seen Star Wars, and though they always say they'd sit down and watch the movies with me, they never do. And I of course mean ANH, ESB, and RoTJ... I'm not too keen on the two new episodes. So. If I can get them in one place long enough to watch Serenity, and hook em... To quote Jayne... Well... that'll be an interesting day indeed. Back to the Black. ~FS

I love this series of spoof love poems from villains to the crew of Serenity! This one's hilarious, a takeoff of Alanis Morrisette's "You Oughta Know" that had me rolling. Bet it will have you down on the floor too! Of course it could be I'm just petty and bitter because I'm old and single and it's the !)(&&*^$^ time of year when those aren't cool thigs to be. Wait...when are those cool things to be again...?

I'm so stoked. I get to go home to Idaho for Spring Break in just one month. I'll even be there for my birthday, which is good. Turning 27 can be scary if you don't have your friends around you. It helps if said friends are all older than you. I did a bad thing last night. I was supposed to be writing a paper and instead I watched Pride and Prejudice (the one with Collin Firth). Once I started watching it, I couldn't stop. It was like a drug or something. Anyway, I had to wake up early this morning to write my paper, which I am convinced sucks. Of course, I have no one to blame but myself. Bad Llama.

Okay, quick little rant...but first, thanks for all the positive feedback on the Gilmore Girls issue. Allright, the wife and I are pretty much broke. We agreed weeks ago not to do anything for Valentine's Day because of that fact. Now am I or am I not the good husband for obeying that agreement? Today I get to work and my wife's gone off and snuck some candy and a card into my messenger bag. Suddenly, I feel like the bad hubby for not getting her something! Thankfully, I did have a last second backup plan...printing and binding 14 pages of cute emails from when we first started dating. ;) But still!!! Wasn't I being the good husband? Freakin' capitalistic holidays....

{Final update} Well, it looks like Amazon has removed the recommendation feature for their site so this blog entry is unneccessary. They did this once before but brought back the recs after a few weeks (and the direct bookmarks to the rec pages still worked, they just weren't linked off the main product page). This time it's been more than a month since they removed the links and the rec pages have been deleted. So it's a safe bet that this guerilla marketing tactic is dead. Therefore, no reason to be coy about the data on this page... Quick summary, I tracked the Amazon pages of clost to a hundred DVD boxed sets for half a year. For the vast majority of these, the Firefly DVD set appeared on the main product page as, "people recommend this DVD in addition to this product." Based on that, I conclude that this particular guerilla marketing tactic was a success. {/Final update} ------------------------------------------------------ In the interest of flying under Alliance radar, no explanation will be given for this seemingly random collection of information. “I've got the layout, entrance codes, believe me, this thing practically robs itself.” (Group A) [-0] Star Trek Deep Space Nine – The Complete Second Season (1994) [-0] Star Trek Deep Space Nine – The Complete Third Season (1995) [-0] Star Trek Deep Space Nine – The Complete Fifth Season (1997) [-0] The X-Files – The Complete Sixth Season (1999) [-0] The X-Files – The Complete Eighth Season (2001) [-0] Lexx - The Complete Third Series (1999) [-0] Lexx Series One - Episode Two of Four (2000) [-0] Lexx Series One - Episode Four of Four (2000) [-0] Star Trek Enterprise - The Complete First Season [-0] Red Dwarf – Series 5 (1989) “It sounds like the sort of thing this crew can handle.” (Group B) [-1] Star Trek Deep Space Nine – The Complete Fourth Season (1996) [-1] Star Trek Voyager – The Complete Fifth Season (1999) [-1] The X-Files – The Complete Seventh Season (2000) [-1] The X-Files – The Complete Seasons 1-9 (1993) [-1] Stargate SG-1 Season 3 Boxed Set (1999) [-1] Red Dwarf – Series 6 (1989) “I can't guarantee they'll handle it particularly well, but…” (Group C) [-2] Star Trek Voyager – The Complete Seventh Season (2001) [-3] Roswell – The Complete Second Season [-3] Stargate SG-1 Season 1 Boxed Set (1997) “This is why we lost, you know: superior numbers.” (Group D) [-7] Babylon 5 – The Complete Second Season (1995) [-9] Babylon 5 – The Complete First Season (1994) [-12] Star Trek Deep Space Nine – The Complete First Season (1993) [-19] Stargate SG-1 Season 2 Boxed Set (1998) “Compression coil busts, we're drifting...” (Group E) [+0] Star Trek The Original Series – The Complete Second Season (1967) [+0] Star Trek Deep Space Nine – The Complete Seventh Season (1999) [+0] Star Trek Voyager – The Complete Sixth Season (2000) “Getting awful crowded in my sky.” (Group F) [+1] Star Trek The Next Generation – The Complete Seventh Season (1994) [+1] Star Trek Deep Space Nine – The Complete Seasons 1-7 (1993) [+1] Star Trek Voyager – The Complete Fourth Season (1998) [+1] Babylon 5 – The Gathering (TV Premiere DVD) (1993) [+1] The X-Files – The Complete Fifth Season (1998) [+1] Earth Final Conflict - Destination Dark [+1] Earth Final Conflict - Face the Horizon [+1] Red Dwarf - Series 1 (1989) [+1] Red Dwarf - Series 2 (1989) [+1] Stargate SG-1 Season 7 [+1] Star Trek Deep Space Nine - The Complete Sixth Season (1998) [+1] Red Dwarf - Series 3 (1989) [+1] Red Dwarf - Series 4 (1989) [+1] Andromeda – Season 3 Collection (2000) [+1] Lexx Series One - Episode One of Four (2000) [+1] Lexx - The Complete Second Series (1998) [+1] Star Trek The Original Series – The Complete First Season (1966) [+1] The X-Files – The Complete First Season (1994) “Everything looks good from here...” (Group G) [+2 and above] 45 titles Updates: February 15: -6 February 16: no change February 17: -1 February 18: (+1,-1) no change February 19: no change February 20: no change February 21: no change Feb

We have a new dog now. We saw her at the local pet store with the sign "adopt me!" So cute, so sweet we couldn't resist her. She was a "pound dog" & we paid the fee, but needs a few more shots & will see the vet today. She gets along fairly well with our older dog, they still have to work out the hierarchy, but she sure holds her own! She's a border collie mix, black & white & is anywhere from 9 months to a year old. A cuddler, too. I think she will do well here.

:banghead: Again with the neglect. Re-discorverd love of Firefly, with help of fanfiction. For a short period, and by short, I mean a *day*, shipped Mal/River. Now a father/daughter type thing with help from Simon/Mal. Wo de ma he ta de feung kuang de wai sheng dou, is that pretty. My voice, which already has splatterings of ironic crack-addicted fan-girl and hip hop speak, English-isms, the occiasional chan and slight southern-isms, probably dosen't need random bits of Chinese and western-isms that comes with being back in the fandom. You know what's odd? Almost all the time, my random picture at the top left is of Mal or River, my favourite characters.

Wahooie! gorgeous day here in Colorado, we got some snow spit on the ground and it's snowing..kinda. it's like ice dust settling in over everything making it all purty and dangerous like. and funny as hell (as funny as the 9th level can be with your eyes open). you get behind these drivers in their new sports cars or giganamous SUV's and well, the new cars are spinning in circles in front of me and the SUV's are upside down on the side, in the middle, off the ravine. oh. and last night I was tickled polka dotted pink cuz an attorney locked himself out of his office. So I sit here, after arriving safely in my beat up 1987 chevy, drinking my lovely cup of real tea and do the evil giggle.

Just thought I'd update this, as sympathy is no longer required: I am fit and healthy once more. Or at least, as much as I was before I got the flu :) And if you came here looking for Firefly stuff, can I suggest you try this month's SFX? They have an article. Plus they have some recommendations for conventions to go to, mentioning Serenity, and also one called Redemption, which I have been reliably informed is good.

Why are some people so rude? If someone isn't looking their utmost best there is probably good reason. Some guy comes up to me a few minutes ago (630am) and says "You look awfully tired." Ok, thank you sooo much Captain Obvious! I know it's difficult for those who have never worked the graveyard shift to understand, but yes of course I am TIRED! (and just a little cranky too) It's one thing to observe that a person looks dead on their feet, but is it really neccessary to comment on it. I know it's probably not as big a deal as I am making out to be, but it really made me mad. I mean I noticed right away that he looked like an uptight- uber -geek, suave businessman wannabe, but I kept my mouth shut. Is that really too much to ask? Whew~ ok feeling much better.

Yeah, okay, so now there's an actual blog here. Stupid Internet Explorer. Anyway, my point was: should they have delayed the screenings? My guess is that these current wave of screenings were scheduled before the delay. This means that they're arriving 5 months before the normal time. We're already seeing spoilers leaking out. Someone even posted the massive spoiler in open text on an unmarked thread in this forum. Most places would consider that grounds to expel the person too. I got to see the movie entirely spoiler free. The only thing I knew was that all 9 of our BDMs were returning and that there were Reavers in it to some degree. Other than that: nothing. I don't anyone here will get the same opportunity. Don't get me wrong, I'm delighted to have seen it early but I'm just a bit concerned that a) some fans will get spoiled against their will and b) some fans will leave the forum so that doesn't happen. Other than my own personal gratification, I'm not sure what good the screenings have done. There was already a big underground hype building for the movie and it's not like anyone would take the words of ardent Firefly fans about the movie at face value. Plus of course, some civilians went to this "sci-fi adventure screening" hoping to see Star Wars Episode III (obviously not knowing Lucas doesn't do test audiences any more) and were therefore disappointed. This could also have a negative effect (it certainly did on Wild Wild West when screener audiences thought they were going to see a preview of the Matrix but then saw an unfinished version of WWW. They were not amused.) I guess if they were looking to reassure Universal, this should have done the trick. We were all rapt in it and I think it's fair to say that many of us will happily go to see that movie more than once on the big screen.

ok, so while my mum went to get my oldest from school the youngest decided to chuck a bit of a tantie, not unusual she loves her sissy. so i ask if she wants to see the dogs, the tv, go for a walk, have a cuddle the list goes on... but no. she wants "river and whess jaynnee" i have a pic of the cast as my desktop and she loves naming them, but poor old jayne gets it every time. i think she has a thing for combat fatigues... other than that she loves her "river" and "kayleeeee". so cute to see ive corrupted a second generation wouldnt you agree?

No, can't say I'm skilled enough to pull a Jon Stewart here, but I must say I've been having the most insanely busy past four weeks! It's just been non-stop school stuff. *sigh* Thankfully, we all have next week off. That's good thing number one. Secondly, our campus borders a little creek on one side...thankfully the side my classroom's on...and I was walking down to the English department's building yesterday morning before seven (no kids around, gray skies, very calm) and the creek along my left was just full enough to be making some noise (been having rain all week here). It was just so incredibly peaceful. My heart just took this deep breath and wow I felt so relaxed. It reminded me that I need to go camping soon...just pack up the bus and the wife and go camping. It was my moment of zen. For all of you now singing the Daily Show theme...yeah, gold star on your foreheads! I am too. Daa, nah nah nah naaah, Da-da nah nah nah naaaah....

Well, still no good news on the job front (was supposed to hear back about a second interview - or no second interview - today, but didn't hear anything, yet). On the plus side, I got my own domain name!! Yahoo had a sale, and I got www.shadesiren.com for 2 years - for less than TEN DOLLARS!!!! WOOOOO-HOOOOOO!!!! And my amazing friend, Eric - aka Gideon Locke, First Mate of The Oberon, is hosting my site now, helping mith a huge re-design of my website, AND bought "www.OberonRPG.com" - the domain name of our Firefly RPG!! He has created a TRULY amazing site for us, it's still int he process of being created, but it's just BREATHTAKING!!! We're going to have a pgpBB forum to post in, and everything! Feel free to stop in and look around!

First blog, and well, we all have to start somewhere. Caveat: pardon the gushing inanity; while the cat's away the mouse will just run around with it's little optical head gone crazy. And then the cat will come back, and her pretty shiny black paws will dance over the keyboard and make *much* more sense. Guilty pleasure of the week -- quoting my husband: "Oh, you just couldn't help yourself, you finally broke down huh?," with a silly, half-serious comic scowl (he's me own Wash guy) -- I finally bought the Firefly DVD set. Yah sure, you think "*Finally*? What kind of a flan are you anyway?" And uh huh, well I'm a broke fan. But never fear, I've been swilling my own specially contrived/concocted/conflagulatory? combination of coffee, pretzels, and wine to stay up late and enjoy them in perfect ecstasy (oh gods no, not all *together*! What kind of a freak do you think I am?). That sounds perfectly horrible, one does not swill pretzels. Guilty pleasure part deux: though they are both fans as well and fellow geeks, husband is working tonight and son is having a sleep over with a friend so I get the virgin viewing of our dvd's to myself. Ok, now that does sound perfectly horrible. Wickedly selfish? Mildly indulgent? Hey, if you could hang around with sexy people on horseback in space, wouldn't you too? Cheers, Indigo

I thought this dream was a happy little road trip to NC for the shindig premier thingy. It all started going bad when my car died and my dad offered up his vehicle for the run. Picture a tiny slip of a woman driving a green camo 80s army blazer with radio antenna neatly arched over body. Now picture White Water Summer and Sure Thing (without the lovey-dovey thing) all rolled into one terrifying yet hilarious trip. Got it? …Good... Got a full crew of Browncoats (EBO, TRM, and SW) and non-Browncoats (Chad and Will making out in the backseat) in the blazer and we’re singing songs. We sing ‘Serenity' particularly loud---and apparently offensively—because when we stop at a truck stop in Missouri the non-Browncoat types steal the keys and leave us behind. Well, what’s a Browncoat to do? I convince the group that one of these friendly truckers would be more than happy to drop us at the next big city. TRM makes a good point that I must be suicidal, but we vote and I win. …Anywho… The trucker turns out to be a closet Browncoat. She feeds us some beef jerky. We pass out. Ebo and I wake to SimonWho’s hysterical screams of “What are you doing to TRM? You can’t do that! Noooooo!”. We search the creepy cabin for TRM and find him in bonnet and dress, singing selected songs from Annie Get Your Gun. Manage to escape, dream is a bit fuzzy here. I locate some lichen on a tree and decide to head ‘left’ leading us to an abandoned canoe and a river. …brief montage scene… Great fun is had by all as we float down river enjoying the sights and sounds the backwoods until…ahhh, rapids and a waterfall. Yeah, I know a waterfall, but I swear it was there. We careen over the waterfall and get separated. TRM and Ebo get to a main road, find a cab (TRM still has his wallet full of cash), end up in St. Louis, fly to NC, and THEN alert the others that Simon and I are lost and maybe gone for good. …Meanwhile back at the scary river place… Poor SimonWho has a nasty bump on his head and a sprained wrist. He decides he can’t go any further and lies down in the leaves for a nap. When he wakes, he finds himself on the back of a crudely made sled that I’m dragging behind me. We travel that way for four days: Simon deciding he likes being pulled around by a woman, and me slowly heading the right direction for NC but never finding a major highway. …with nothing but the moonlight to guide us… We stumble upon Beale Street at night. The Grey Jedi finds us the next evening singing with Eugene Gales. He takes us to a Luau at the local Elk Lodge and tries to setup SimonWho with Rat. See the problem there? No? Well, there was a problem there. SW and Rat had vader masks on and were being chased by bikers. Luckily, the bikers were some I knew (possibly were related to) and I convinced them not to play with them too much. My friends, the bikers, drove TGJ, Rat, SW, and myself the rest of the way to NC. I’m not sure why TGJ wasn’t already in NC, but he wasn’t. …conclusion… Static was quite mad that we lost ourselves and made them send out the Browncoat guard to look for us. Seems the guard was now lost. The premier was two days ago and we didn’t even have our costumes. TRM and Ebo got to see the show. SW decided he was never coming to the US again, because we were all insane. Rat joined the bikers on a trip to SD thinking he could see the rally (nope, too late). TGJ became a respected caterer specializing in buried pig. The Browncoat guard was found three years later running a white water rafting school in the hills of Arkansas. And Static secured the official premier of Serenity II and III for NC. Sadly, I did not get to see Serenity. I did however take a shower when TGJ spilled poi on me. *twg falls off edge of bed, hitting her head on the ironing board she didn’t put away the day before*

I had a couple of really good days. I got some cleaning done. I sure do hope I don't end up with another cruddy week full of morning sickness soon. Help me think of names, guys! We're having twins, but we don't know the sexes yet. I'm seriously considering Kaylee. Only problem is my cousin (whom I dislike a great deal) named her latest Cayle (pronounced kaylee).

I feel damn good today. A rare event in itself. As I've said before, I work in an Internet Gaming Center, where you can play 1st person shooters, RPG's, X-Box games, or just surf the web. Some games we have have a certain encryption called *DELETED FOR LEGAL/SECURITY ISSUES*, which is to total drag, since it has multiple protection methods to dicourage copy and emulation. Emulation is a necessary (not to mention COMPLETELY legal) evil in my industry. (Legal because we own the games, and can't trust the customers to be careful with each and every disk, so we have to emulate them) Anyhoo, *DELETED FOR LEGAL/SECURITY ISSUES* is a tough protection, and I totally slapped the shit out of it this morning. Completely got around each and every protection (NO: I'm not gonna say how, since my way is legal, personal users and pirates can't have my super-secret info) and was able to run the games without the original disks or copies of the disks. MuaHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!! I'm also going to see Constantine tonight, which I'm sure is gonna rock! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! (I apologize for the silliness and uselessness of this blog, but I just had to get it all out... customers are looking at me funny for laughing to myself every so often) I'm actually giddy. I'm not a 'giddy' person. WOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! *giddygiddygiddy!*

So it's my 1st vistit ever to this site and i am hooked. i heard how amazing firefly was, along with the huge fanbase it had, yet until i bought the complete season out of the blue one day, i couldn't have imagined how much i was missing out on. Everyone seems really pumped for Serenity's release, but it makes me nervous to think it mightn't make it to the Australian shores. Maybe i'll have to go to America for it - honestly if i wasn't a poor uni student i would in a heartbeat. is that obsessive?

Thanks oldfan45 and CosmicFugitive for helping me discover the wonderful world of the Blog entry! Now that I know we can write pretty much anything in here, I'll be making good use of it! I've beén checking out the rest of the site and it just makes me so darn pleased to read that there are others out there who get excited about things like Batman Begins and Star Wars... Funny, I ususally recieve blank looks when I talk about the genius of Frank Miller or how disappointed I was with Akiva Goldsman's take on Gotham, but here you actually get an intelligible reply! Thanks for making me feel at home!

It's been a while since I've dropped by here, but was reminded again by the Browncats boards where I lurk more regularly. Last time I was here I'm pretty sure there wasn't any blogging. I'd say there's not much to tell, but I guess that depends on your point of view! I've just come back from a weekend of geekery, debauchery and gaming up in the Midlands and now back at work feeling the aftermath. Got to pretend to be a Roman Legionnaire (Neverwhere), a Narn special forces agent (B5), a WWII superhero (Godlike) and Winona Ryder (don't ask). Plus my own game went pretty well and it was fun to get everyone dressed up like cowboys (pics available on request). :D Currently keeping a beady eye on Ebay. Not only am I entirely addicted to buying stuff I don't really need, but since the Sat night party at Starfury: Serenity is Jedi themed, I am of course on the lookout for cool things to wear. How sad am I eh? ;)

Hey gang, who's in charge of updating the site? The front page hasn't changed in months! Still the same photos up top, still the same Reaver poll to the left, etc... Doesn't anyone care about it? Please! We need some fresh photos, and get that morbid 'raping & murdering' poll outta here! It was in poor taste to begin with, don't see why its still there.

There really is nothing quite like the feeling one gets when flying, be it as PIC, (Pilot In Command) or just a crewmember. Hell even just a passenger... though I think the feeling is more complete if you're part of the process. As I've mentioned elsewhere, during the summer months, when I can, I ship out with a C-47 (DC-3) that occasionally flys the Airshow circuit from the Fargo Air Museum. I do this for a few reasons. A: Airshow's are friendly places. Food is usually ok (if expensive) I get a free bed for the night.... and B: (The most important) I get to go flying. Something I don't get to do enough of. My dad's a pilot, and while one day, when I finally plunk myself down and DO the work, I will be too, right now I'm just a crewmember. Some would say passenger, but thats not correct. Passengers fill seats. I'm the guy making sure the coffee urns are full, we have all our passengers onboard, all the luggage is stowed (you'd be amazed how much baggage you can get into the baggage compartment of a C-47, and thats before you start loading stuff in the aisle). Before startup, I'm the guy who makes sure the props get turned (to get a little oil moved around in the engine before start, and also (and more importantly) to check to make sure we don't have a hydrolic lock up.) I pull the gear pins just before start up, and watch the start up, (To keep an eye on bystanders... radial engines have this sound that just attracts them... but more then once I've had to grab a kid who could have run smack into a spinnin prop. And walk a wing, if we're taxiing through tight sports. After that I climb onboard, latch the door, and get ready for a ride. If I'm lucky, I'll probably even get some seat time pointing the beast through the air. It ain't fast, and its not overly fancy (No AC, but we have vents and heat, and at 10,000 feet or so, you don't need AC) but it gets us where we're going. And every now and then we get visitors while we're up there. Sometimes its other folk heading to the airshow we're going to, and just feel like meeting up for a bit of formation work enroute. (We don't do much work, we just keep flying... they gotta do the work moreso then us, we're slow, they're relatively fast.) We've had F-16s and -15s come down for a peek, though they can't stay long, we cruise barely above stall speed for them more often then not. Such is the life enroute. But its comfortable. Not many other places can you stretch out a sleeping bag down one side of the plane and take a nap. Once your at destination, I'm the first guy out the door, to do the whole process in reverse. I also run most of the tours. Its work, but its not hard work, and while I'm not paid, I always figure I'm compensated by the flight time. Its a good arrangement, and its fun. Now, I could tell you what I feel, when I'm pointing that bird around the sky, or standing way at the back so I can feel the tail come off the ground first... but its a little different for everyone who enjoys flying, but its definately a joy. And for those of us out there who know that joy... well, there's just nothing quite the same. Its not better then somethings, or worse then others, its just different. Its freedom, I think, in one of its most base ways. And as Mal would say "Its a good day" because he got paid, and more importantly, they're still flying. Fly well fellow skydwellers, and long fly our favorite Firefly. ~FS

...to ruin a perfectly good dream. So I was sleeping pretty hard, as I do now that I think I'm 18 and started rowing at 5 am again, minding my own buisiness, when a couple of reavers show up and, I'm man enough to admit, freak me out. As far as I was concerned I was on my last ship hanging out in the hanger watching one of the manliest women I know do pushups with one of my high school friends standing on her back. I suppose I should have recognized the forshadowing when a man with a knife lunged at me demanding that I learn to protect myself. Then I'm in space, on a ship that is definitely not Serenity, crewed by our BDH's (and me, though I can only assume I was there as cannon fodder) when some reavers showed up and got on board. The entire crew, except for Book, uncharateristically ran away screaming. So it's me and Book fighting two reavers. He was pretty much a badass. I was pretty much a little girl. It was scary and I woke up feeling emasculated. Gorram reavers. Droppy

Well it's like 8:00 in the morning and I just found out school has been cancelled due to the snow. I'll never understand these easterners, but I'm not complaining. I've got season 4 of CSI to catch up on. Actually, I could be/should be working on a paper, but why waste a perfect afternoon of idleness and relaxation.

it feels like a beast sliding inside me, clawing it's way out and I have to keep batting it's paws cuz we can't hurt the customers. i honestly don't know what it is but sometimes it really is like that, some darkness is screaming for primal takeover. illogical irrational raw power that is more me than anything in this world and I have to deny it, stuff it down, suffocate it because this world can't handle it? i have no idea what to do with it? imagine oliver asking for just one bowl of porridge and being handed a feast of filet mignon, chicken marsala, exquisite pasta and chocolate covered strawberries. if you've never been neglected and abused in life you just won't get this. but you either don't reach for the food cuz you know it's a cruel joke or else you eat it and don't taste it cuz you are wondering when the next shoe will drop and make it all worse than before.

I must respectfully decline. I realized something in the shower today. Mr. Cent ("Fiddy" to his freinds) proclaims in his single "Candy Shop" that he has "never brought it like this before." I propose that he has, in fact, brought it like this before. I cite one "Magic Stick" by Li'l Kim featuring Fifty Cent. The similarities are evident in parts of both songs. I mention this not because I am adverse to Mr. Cent's vocal stylings. On the contrary, I have become quite fond of his works. They speak to humanity on a most universal level. Which one of us has not loved someone or something like a fat kid loves cake? I am merely pointing out an inconsistansy that has been bugging me since I originally heard "Candy Shop" until I had my epiphany ealry today butt naked in the shower. I am, however, concerned about Mr. Cent's use of the metaphor. I do not believe that the lollipop offered is quite as innocent as I initially believed. And I am begining to suspect that "Magic Stick" is not just a song about baseball, though I hear plans to incorporated it into the directors cut of "The Natural" are unhindered. Enough nonsense for now. I must analyze a speech given by President Johnson and the prose must flow from my finger tips like [insert profound simile]. Droppy P.S. If I were, however, invited to the "Candy Shop" by the captain, I might be inclined to overlook some sexual prerences I suppose...lol.

So I'm a textile junkie. I get to work and it begins before I'm through the door. I'm already focused on some through the glass. I see the tables and rows and stacks. Fabric! I'm not even on the clock and I've already touched three maybe more different fabrics, my subconcious in glee. The linen, crisp and textured. The slinky nylon with the retro 60's print. Fresh denim, hard and crunchy, almost like cardboard, waiting to become broken in, faded jeans. All the colors play in my eyes. Combinations newly discovered, old pairings which seem so comfortable. How is it that pink and purple seem to be made for each other? Why aren't more fabrics made in orange? That lime green stripe on a background of blues that has something pleasing about it. The sueded leather-like fabric so much like Mal's brown coat, the oriental print that screams, "Kaylee would wear this!" All I need do is walk past a chinese satin with chrysanthemums or touch a bit of flannel with snowflakes or Hello Kitty, I hit a blissful state that sits just under the surface of my oh so polite and helpful manner (Y'know, that one you save for dealing with public.) Behind all the "You want me to figure your drapery requirements without any window measurements? Sure, I can do the ridiculous", is a girl who's mind is thinking of the third row of fabric at the left of the store, where that embroidered silk is, wondering, "which color would Inara choose? What pretties could I create with that?" My little textile haven, I do enjoy thee.

so last night i had a dream the for some reason i was on the set of the Serenity movie. my boyfriend was directing - which is confusing enough - but there's more. - we were shooting a scene and the studio wanted the ship to be 'Epic' so the hallways and doors were made so stupidly huge that when this 'thing' was chasing the cast, they had to run back really far just to see what was after them. it was way too 'bruckheimer' and wasn't fitting to the series. also, i think Ice Cube was playing the part of Book. Scary. I think i may be subconsiously worried about the potential loss of integrity of the 'fly. "they'll rape us to death, eat our flesh, and sew our skins into their clothing. And if we're very, very lucky, they'll do it in that order."

You know the rest. The iPod idea...posting it here...that was dumb and I'm sorry. It's begging, it's pandering...that's not cool in retrospect. iPod, SchmiPod for all I care right now. So I've had the pleasure of being off work all week. Being a teacher rocks, really it does. And it rained here in NorCal all last week...rained a lot!! This week, the rain stopped...and I think we had one day where it was kinda clear. The past two days have been solid gray. I mean, we could have been snatched up by some alien ship on The Outer Limits and are hurtling through the far reaches of the Verse right now and I'd never know. Real sad thing...supposed to start raining again Sunday night and not stop for a while! :disappointed:

My mom, a 'Backwoods Home' reader, called me up this afternoon and alerted me to the fact that Firefly was mentioned in the latest issue of the magazine. Of course, I had to go right out and buy it just to see what they had to say. The article is on page #34 with a heading of 'The Best TV Series You Never Saw.' It gives a quick overview of the story and characters for any newbies, and then the author goes into a little bit about how her friend pulled her into the show. Overall, it was a pretty good shot in the arm for our show. So, give your support, buy the magazine! Even if you don't really want to know 'how to build a germination bed', go out and find the issue if for no other reason than to see the words Firefly in print.

Had some bad news yesterday. Was at home for my Dad's birthday and our dog had been unwell. They thought she might have conjunctivitus, then an infection. Yesterday they took her up to a specialist who said she had glaucoma in her left eye, rendering it totally blind and would soon develop it in her right eye. This is due to pressure developing in her retinas from her drainage canals being at the wrong angle. To relieve the pressure, which causes major headaches, both eyes will have to be removed. I'm not dealing with this very well. For one thing, I've always had a phobia about eyes being damaged. I couldn't cope with losing my sight, I really couldn't. And now my dog is going to go around without any eyes in front of me. The children who used to bound up to her thinking "cute dog" will now be frightened of her. And I don't know if she'll cope with the change (she's 6 years old). This just sucks.

Yeah, this might sound completely daft, but I am soooo happy. For years and years I have had amazing memories of this obscure, yet historical Cantonese style restaurant in of all places, Butte, Montana. On rare occassions I've run into folks who have eaten there and we've all gotten this strange, faraway and mystical bliss in our eyes... it's like a dream, or de ja vu, or some kind of fanatical attachment to a film noir masterpiece. Yes, the Peking Noodle Parlor. Unchanging, seedy, authentic (Butte's mining history had a 1/3 percentage of immigrant Chinese population at one time), and indelibley, artistically delicious. What am I ranting about? Here I am living in Washington State and I have been giving the raves for this *certain special Chinese noodle parlor* to my husband for years... and I finally googled it up. Found it! Next time we travel over to visit the folks I'm dragging us to "the big pit" of Butte. It's also the site of the Mai Wah Society

Have you ever seen something, or read something or heard something that made you think “WOW”? No other reaction, because one isn’t really necessary. The first thing you think to yourself is just a simple word. Later, reflecting on it you try to figure out what about it made you feel like Wow, and even as you rationalize it some little voice in the back of your head says “SHUT THE FUCK UP! You felt the ‘wow’. Isn’t that fucking enough?” If you’ve ever felt that way, then you know how my life is, after you times it by infinite. Now, some idiot mathematician will say some stupid ass shit like, “It’s impossible to times anything by infinite.” Well, not for me, because it’s still fucking happening. I am lost in this world. My first hint of it came when I said “WOW” to a great movie called “Pump Up the Volume.” For those of you that haven’t seen it, I strongly suggesting going out and renting, or even illegally downloading, it. In this movie, Christian Slater’s character makes a comment that there is nothing new. “All the really great themes have been used up and turned into theme parks.” Now, the key moment for me, was when, after watching the movie, I decided I’d go onto the internet and spread the same message as Happy Harry Hard-on via blogs. The only problem is that I realized that I’m fucking committing the same sin that he abhors so much. Using up the great themes. And I probably still am. Then I saw another movie, heard a song, read a book, and each gave me the ‘wow’. The reason I kept getting the same feeling wasn’t that they were all that great. But by comparison to my life, they may as well been the Second Coming, which to me sounds like a contradiction, since Jesus was born without a first coming (I’ll give you a few minutes to think on that one). What sucks so much about my life? Well, thanks for asking. Let’s see. My father died when I was in first grade. Boo-fucking-hoo. Of course, my father’s death came in between my grandfather’s death (Kindergarten) and my grandmother’s (First Grade). So I had a very death filled childhood, and the only memories I have of my father are ones that are best forgotten. For the 18 years of my existence, I haven’t kept a steady job for more than three months. Whenever I look at a girl and get a hard-on I over compensate and think it’s love. I find I don’t deal with anger; I just let it boil over till I want to kill something. But I think the main thing that’s wrong with my life, is me. Don’t blame my mother. Don’t blame TV. Don’t blame my poor dead father. Don’t blame my asshole of an ex-stepdad. Don’t blame the schools. The fault lies with me. You see, like most people, I don’t have a perfect life. And it’s this imperfection that makes it absolutely, above the shadow of any jackass’s fucking doubt perfect. My mother loves me. My sisters, though they don’t always admit it. I have at least one or two friends in real life, and countless on the net. Yet, I can’t get my fucking act together. I live in a fantasy world. When I was younger, it was actual fantasy. You know, movies, TV shows. I’d write myself in. A ‘Mary Sue’ I believe the RP term is, despite the fact that I’m a male. But now a-days, it’s more real. I imagine meeting actually people. Joss Whedon. Kevin Smith. The undeniably beautiful Keira Knigtley. And even myself on days I’m feeling ambitious. I have a great life, and I’m creating a fantasy world. How fucked up is that? And I still hear and see things and think wow, and don’t know enough to realize maybe that’s all it is. Maybe it’s just wow. I don’t really know why we sometimes feel we need more. Well, that’s my opening rant. Like I said before, the key moment was from watching “Pump Up the Volume” so if anyone wants to drop me a line, go right ahead.. As in the movie, reply is guaranteed. Also, if you leave your IM info, I’d be happy to have a conversation with you, on a one time basis, as long as you understand that it will be in the next entry. Am I crazy to be doing this? Maybe. But what’s the point of life if you can’t go a bit crazy? Or

I'm looking for a good combination of freeware that will stop anything in its tracks. I've got Microsoft Anti-spyware, Avast! Anti-Virus, Spybot - Search & Destroy, Lavasoft Ad-Aware SE Personal, SpywareBlaster, and I'm using Windows XP's SP2 Firewall. I recently switched over from AVG Free Edition 7 to Avast!, because it wasn't performing as well as it used to seem to. Any suggestions as to other anti-virus/spyware programs, or an alternate software firewall? (This is for home use, since I can't use my business' virus-killer, because it would require an additional license, and I'm a cheapo) *Edited: Actually, I'm not cheap, I just have no money*

Just wondering if anyone out there is going to this neat little SciFi/gaming con out in Missoula, Mt next May 27-30th, 2005? My husband and I run a Chthulu Dark Ages game, and I am also interested perhaps in running the "Bwah!" Firefly game -- if that would be ok. Could anyone help me find the thread for this game?

School's back for Summer! (At least Uni's back for the end of Australian Summer, but you get the point.) I can't believe I can't spend my days lazing on the beach, or watching dvd's anymore. Yes I know, life is hard. Anyway, I just wanted to commend SimonWho on his great insight into the movie business (regarding failed comic-based movies): 'Why won't movie companies realise that "a safe pair of hands" is the swiftest way to kill a franchise dead.' I couldn't agree more! That's why I'm ecstatic over the choice of cast and crew for 'Batman Begins', certainly not what you'd call a 'safe' decision on the studio's part, but a wise one nonetheless (I'm hoping). But can Christian Bale go from Bateman to Batman? I'm betting Yes. I love that this new film will centre on the character of the Dark Knight himself, instead of any of the villains (eg. the Joker in Batman 1), but above all I'm geeking out over the fact that Gary Oldman will co-star! Incidentally, he's the only actor I could imagine playing the part of Satan on 'Constantine' better than the beautifully over-the-top Peter Stormare. But to give Akiva Goldsman his props (after bagging him for "Batman and Robin") I've gotta say I did enjoy "Master and Commander", on which he was a script consultant, but as for him producing "Constantine", hasn't he learned to steer clear of Comic book adaptions? But no harm done, I did enjoy "Constantine" after all, and Francis Lawrence did well as a 1st time director (hey, don't trust my judgement, I said the same about Jonathan Hensleigh after Punisher!) To sum up, as long as Goldsman doesn't screw up DaVinci Code, which should prove difficult, I may just forgive his past indiscretions!
