Remember my last dream?
Saturday, February 19, 2005 11:39 PM
I thought this dream was a happy little road trip to NC for the shindig premier thingy. It all started going bad when my car died and my dad offered up his vehicle for the run. Picture a tiny slip of a woman driving a green camo 80s army blazer with radio antenna neatly arched over body. Now picture White Water Summer and Sure Thing (without the lovey-dovey thing) all rolled into one terrifying yet hilarious trip. Got it?…Good...
Got a full crew of Browncoats (EBO, TRM, and SW) and non-Browncoats (Chad and Will making out in the backseat) in the blazer and we’re singing songs. We sing ‘Serenity' particularly loud---and apparently offensively—because when we stop at a truck stop in Missouri the non-Browncoat types steal the keys and leave us behind. Well, what’s a Browncoat to do? I convince the group that one of these friendly truckers would be more than happy to drop us at the next big city. TRM makes a good point that I must be suicidal, but we vote and I win.
…Anywho…
The trucker turns out to be a closet Browncoat. She feeds us some beef jerky. We pass out. Ebo and I wake to SimonWho’s hysterical screams of “What are you doing to TRM? You can’t do that! Noooooo!”. We search the creepy cabin for TRM and find him in bonnet and dress, singing selected songs from Annie Get Your Gun . Manage to escape, dream is a bit fuzzy here. I locate some lichen on a tree and decide to head ‘left’ leading us to an abandoned canoe and a river.
…brief montage scene…
Great fun is had by all as we float down river enjoying the sights and sounds the backwoods until…ahhh, rapids and a waterfall. Yeah, I know a waterfall, but I swear it was there. We careen over the waterfall and get separated. TRM and Ebo get to a main road, find a cab (TRM still has his wallet full of cash), end up in St. Louis, fly to NC, and THEN alert the others that Simon and I are lost and maybe gone for good.
…Meanwhile back at the scary river place…
Poor SimonWho has a nasty bump on his head and a sprained wrist. He decides he can’t go any further and lies down in the leaves for a nap. When he wakes, he finds himself on the back of a crudely made sled that I’m dragging behind me. We travel that way for four days: Simon deciding he likes being pulled around by a woman, and me slowly heading the right direction for NC but never finding a major highway.
…with nothing but the moonlight to guide us…
We stumble upon Beale Street at night. The Grey Jedi finds us the next evening singing with Eugene Gales. He takes us to a Luau at the local Elk Lodge and tries to setup SimonWho with Rat. See the problem there? No? Well, there was a problem there. SW and Rat had vader masks on and were being chased by bikers. Luckily, the bikers were some I knew (possibly were related to) and I convinced them not to play with them too much. My friends, the bikers, drove TGJ, Rat, SW, and myself the rest of the way to NC. I’m not sure why TGJ wasn’t already in NC, but he wasn’t.
…conclusion…
Static was quite mad that we lost ourselves and made them send out the Browncoat guard to look for us. Seems the guard was now lost. The premier was two days ago and we didn’t even have our costumes. TRM and Ebo got to see the show. SW decided he was never coming to the US again, because we were all insane. Rat joined the bikers on a trip to SD thinking he could see the rally (nope, too late). TGJ became a respected caterer specializing in buried pig. The Browncoat guard was found three years later running a white water rafting school in the hills of Arkansas. And Static secured the official premier of Serenity II and III for NC. Sadly, I did not get to see Serenity. I did however take a shower when TGJ spilled poi on me.
