OK, I’ll admit that it’s a bit discouraging that the Serenity cast options for a sequel ran out in October, and I know that the line between hope and despair (hope and delusion?) can be a fine one. But when I examine my amygdala-stripped feelings, I find that I’m still nowhere near that line. Perhaps the trouble with having done the impossible is coming to expect it. Until Buddha brings me a sequel, I’ll have to settle for gifting the Collector’s Edition this Christmas. Ooooh, shiny black boxes! Since the "In earnest, Mal: why’d you bring her back on?" question came up again in General Discussions, I thought I might as well repost this item that was lost in the last server crash. :) Haven. Mal, mostly to himself, I reckon, says: "I had an out. Hell, I had every reason in the 'verse to leave her lay and haul anchor." Upon which Books utters the truest words ever offered a human soul in this crap-heel 'verse: "It's not your way, Mal." Mal chooses not to abandon River. This is the theme. The difference between day and night is that of the light in this 'verse deciding to do the right thing or not (Extended Commentary below).

In the spirit of my character for the 76th IB I had actually formed a background story and a post BDM conclusion to share. Not sure how he will be accepted, but hopefully there will be some understanding that we all have been given a great gift from the creation of the ‘verse: the ability to connect with folks from all walks of life with a similar interest. Naturally this is based on an intellectual property of other folks so I lay no claim to any characer or setting they have created. I did rate the fic at NC17, mostly for violence but we'll see what will develop from here on out. Enjoy!
