where is the freaking punchline people?
Saturday, 01 September 2007 03:39:29

Well I went to visit a friend last weekend. We had a lovely time. He is really very sweet and quite on the top of my "most favorite people in the world" list. Getting home was a nightmare. I was to fly out at 620 on sunday evening, but when I got to the airport the flight was pushed to 8 pm and there would be no way for me to get my connecting flight in atlanta, so they booked me on the 1026 am flight and I called my friend and he came and got me. Then the next morning we got a call from the airline saying they had rebooked me for 419 in the afternoon. When I got to the gate at 3 I found that it was pushed to 430, it actually took off at about 530. I got to Atlanta and had to run to my next plane. Luckily that one was delayed too or I would have had to spend the night alone in the Atlanta airport. To top it ALL off, when I got to Mobile it was to find that my luggage was still in Atlanta. It showed up delivered to my house about 6 hours after me! LOL In other news, my mom is suing the asshole for the truck yes? Well Mr and Mrs asshole are suing me and their suit says that if they have to pay my mother then I should have to pay them that amount of money. WHERE THE FUCK DO THEY GET THIS STUFF? But this explains why they told #2 that they would have money to buy him a car this Christmas, they think they are getting it from me. I also found out that my stepdad had written a letter to the assholes that SHE intercepted. She wrote to my parents telling them that she had not allowed AH to see the letter because she was "protecting him". She then preceeded to tell MY MOTHER that I am angry and bitter and unstable. She included in the letter the appraisal that they had done illegaly on my house, the one that says it is worth 211,000. even though no one ever came INSIDE. Anyway, she said that they were going to "buy me out" with 150 thou and that after the mortgage was paid off I could give what was left over to my mother for the truck. So they were going to give me 60 thou less then they think it is worth AND leave me and the boys homeless with no money to get another place to live. .......and I let this man have access to my nono places. I am a fucking lunatic. And THEN there is the kidney infection. I am on mega drugs and just a few moments ago was ASSURED that I was dieing, I mean it is not normal to pee the color of sunkist orange soda is it? Thank god and a quick check of wikipedia and I have discovered this is simply a side a effect of the analgesic. Someone get me a ghostwriter. Noone can make this shit up!

Ross Noble Rocks
Saturday, 01 September 2007 10:38:11

Hi there, I went to see Ross Noble at the Billingham Forum last night and it was so great. By the end of the show I was feeling light headed and my partially erupted wisdom teeth were aching from laughing so much. The best bits: him talking to a scientist and saying what she was saying was bullshit and talking about ice- skate wearing charvers getting drunk on cider outside the forum. Not only was it funny, it was also informative. For example I learned that: 1. the only thing gayer than two men having sex is a man rollerblading. 2. Vol a vent is French for inadequate pie 3. adding "Jackie Chan Style" to a sentence will make anything sound cooler 4. Don't piss off a customs official. TTFN Jennifer -x-

Another Saturday Night In.
Saturday, 01 September 2007 20:18:21

You know what's ridiculous? I'm nineteen. I'm a student. And so far, on this three-month-long summer holiday, I've gone out twice. And once was when I was in Blackpool. I mean, I'm sure my liver is thanking. My always pitiful and rapidly depleting social skills? Not so much. The thing is, I've always had loads of friends. You know, a big group of mates. Ever since I was a kid. And there are problems that come with that, you know, you don't get half the closeness and double the back stabbing. But towards the end of sixth form, I made the decision to stick by my friend and effectively sacrificed the group as a whole. I mean, I'm not complaining. Lynsey is like a sister to me, and not to get all teenagery-bitch-fest on you, but 'friends' who are willing to get with their friends boyfriends are not 'friends' worth keeping. Still, a year on and I'm feeling the effects. I've got plenty of friends at uni. I've even got plenty of friends here at home, Lynsey for a start, then one friend who went to a different school, one who was in a different group at school, one who hangs out with her work mates more, a couple of guy mates who hate going out. Which is great individually, but not so great if you want to go out and party. I'm not missing out on much, really. I have enough friends, I'm not greedy. I just miss belonging to a group. Having a bunch of people you can rely on to go out with. I guess it bothers me all the more because around the same time as the Great Friend Shedding, my long term boyfriend broke up with me. I'm totally over him now, but my self confidence (virtually non existant to start with) took a knock, and in the year - okay more - since, I just haven't had the chance to get back out there. I FEEL really pathetic, sitting here on my laptop while my entire family are all out with their friends. Yep, even my mum. It's just that now, when I do meet new people, guys or girls, I get this overwhelming urge to run away. It feels like if I don't do something soon, I'm gonna be trapped in this cycle. I mean, you need to KNOW people to MEET people. *Sigh* This wasn't meant to be a soul-pouring blog, it just kinda happened. Feels better to get it out though. Don't feel you have to rely, anyone. I'm back to uni tommorow, and I'm gonna force myself to be positive. New year, new start. And I should hurry up before I become a reinstated virgin, lmao. Yeah, pretend I didn't say that. Ah, it's good to share. xx

Not Just Another Football Game
Saturday, 01 September 2007 21:00:21

Alright, as some of you know, I'm a college student in the mountains of NC. If you've been paying any attention to football this afternoon you will have seen one of the biggest football upsets ever in history. Appalachian State beat out Michigan. That's right, MY school, beat out a Big Ten Football powerhouse... Oh I hope there aren't any Michigan fans here... I mean how embarassing! To pay a school thousands of dollars to come play, because you think they'll be an easy win, only to be humiliated on your home turf... We're not back to back Nat'l Champs for nothing! Go Mountaineers! I wish I was in Boone right now. There are 2000 people partying on River St. and they tore down both of our goal posts. But I'm at home with my family so I'll just have to party Tuesday through Saturday where we have our first home game! Okay I'm gonna go gloat some more

i need your help, if you can... if you read my last blog...and i know it's been awhile since i've been on...but if you read my last blog you will see that i lost two of my classmates before the ending of the school year. spenser cox was hit by a train the weekend of august 25, 2006 and matt dilbeck was a passanger in a head on car crash, who sustained serious injuries that later caused his death on april 28th, 2007.... after they died...i was ready to move on. i knew they were gone and were happy to have known them and shared memories with them. i was happy, well i still am...i'm now just numb. you see, the graduating class of 2007, from oregon illinois suffered another loss july 28. you could say that we're slowly falling like dominos. i'm feeling numb. i only cried once when i heard about colton parker. and that was because i was scared to say goodbye again. i know i should have a good cry and i want to, but there was nothing there but this feeling as if my heart was hardening up, calusing from all the pain. colton parker, the poor guy was driving home, having had little sleep, after dropping off his girlfriend...it was around one o'clock in the morning that he fell asleep at the wheel, crossing the median and hitting another car head on. he was a good guy, they all were. none of them deserved their deaths, their suffering, none of us deserved to lose them. i'm not asking for your pity or asking why is this happening to us, i'm just wondering if there's anyone out there that understands this feeling of numbness. i wanna know i'm not alone. it eats away at me whenever i'm alone and left to think and i always think of those three young men. everyday...and i think i will for the rest of my life now. though i won't let it hold me back, the thoughts of them, it is just this feeling...this feeling of having the inability to feel emotion...that has me stuck in this state of...oh it's hard to explain. it's this state of masked sadness that noone else around me understands. but i take deep breaths, smile, remind myself of the good memories, the great friends i still have and move on until the numbness takes hold of me again. ~beth

are all movers parolees? probably not, do they look like they are? you betcha! break, lose, or steal your crap? not that i have anything of real worth, but it's just irritating. We had to move because our home was in the 'path of renovation'. My nice, BIG, old home has to be remodeled. So the Army assigns us a nice home, SMALL, new home. Now, I am told I only lose 100 sq feet, but i am moving from a ranch style duplex into a middle town house. SO, i lose footage in stairs, extra bathrooms (okay, i am excited to have more than 1 toilet), and hallways. I have to cram my oversized sofas into a living room half the size of the old one. OLD, like that's bad. Ugh! So, yes, there are a ton of boxes everywhere. My kid hasn't had the decent rest she needed because we are moving, and it took forever to convince my husband that hooking up the internet was a tad more important than getting the flag pole in the yard straight! But, it's fine. I'm okay. And it does show me who loves me. I have some great friends who have watched my kid, fed us, and just let me whine about how lame life is. So, that pretty much rocks. Those of you wondering when a new story is coming? okay, none of you are wondering, but just induldge me. as soon as i get moved in, as soon as my beta gets all situated, i've got a litle one shot that should be enjoyable. Now, if you'll excuse me, i need to find the box with my crazy pills in it. :banghead:

Browncoat Recruitin' Update...
Monday, 03 September 2007 07:07:42

Got a friend who's seen the BDM and really liked it, so had him drive me around today lookin' for the BDM-CE and finally located it at Best Buy after visiting two stores... So of course was doing the hard sell of why he should see the series. So long story short, I loans him my FF boxset PLUS the original Serenity BDM to take with him when he goes up to Washington state in a few days... Figure he's already a BC -- just ain't officiallyt signed up, but this from a guy who only saw the BDM and a few eps of the BDS with me over a year ago and he instantly got the whole "family" thing with Mal and the Crew. So he will defintely be watching the series and movie in Washington when he goes to visit his daughter and her boyfriend, so we've one given and two possibles in the ranks of the faithful. Plus, I encouraged the waitress who served us at dinner to watch Serenity and check out FF on netflix, so might have another one. Yep... I had a good day.

From Russia with love...
Monday, 03 September 2007 11:32:24

I have been in St. Petersburg for exactly 5 weeks now. Im starting to get a bit homesick. It is a very beautiful and interesting city, but living out of a suitcase in a hostel starts to loose its charm. I have the first russian exam on wednesday, and I hope it will go allright. The oral is on friday... that one will be the worst. I hate oral exams. Its only one week left, one more week to try to get as much fun and education as possible out of this city. Its a rather exhausting thought, but i have already been to the eremitage twice and many of the other big museums so maybe its time to focus on the vodka...

i'd like to thank the people that read my last blog and let me hear a little about themselves, helping me understand so much more about grief and death. it might take awhile, but i am living still with a beating heart, and i'm going to keep living with a shiny smile on my face for as long as i can. i again thank all of you, for opening yourselves to me. i really needed that. ~Beth

DRIVE - season ii. ep 2: Long Time Leaving. (john Trimble)
Tuesday, 04 September 2007 12:33:48

long time leaving Have you ever looked at the stars? – when you can see them – you know you really should. When you.... look at the stars shining – like rain beads on a cob-web, glass on a highway. When did I get so poetic? Could be the drugs I suppose – effecting neurological processes, functions. I read about a fella once – in a book by that... Sachs, Oliver Sachs, I think he wrote the book. The other man – I don’t remember his name, he said: “My brain is on fire.” He had been asleep – and they woke him up, suddenly. He’d been sleep, sleeping siickness, yes but – they woke him, quite suddenly... and he could move and talk and read and write, think, create... and he was, well he was just great at all these things. After all that time. And then – he couldn’t stop – do you know? He was – “my brain is on fire” – and he begged the doctors till they stopped his treatment and he – he just – he went back to sleep. That’s all I remember – it IS funny, the things you remember – I just don’t really remember anything much before the pills. No, no, actually that’s not true of course – I remember the waking up, I remember when I woke up. Lying in the back of a car. Of all the places! Lying in the back of a car. Sick. Dying. Lying in the back of a car – and looking at her... looking at my daughter. She had just woken me up. She was talking about the stars (have you ever looked at the stars? We used to look at the stars, my daughter and I...) – and she was talking about us – and she was cracking wise at herself, “Oh, that was sooo... lame”, - and she was sliding into the front seat of the car – and she was getting ready to drive. We were entering the race. I had wanted to race. Very unexpected of me. My demonstration of the uncertainty principal. Well, I thought that racing would - wake me up... but I was wrong. The race didn't wake me up. She did. My daughter. I was lying in the back of the car and I was looking at my daughter. And I had never seen anything so beautiful in my life. Not all the – not even the damn stars. And we’re racing still. But... not for much longer now. I was wrong. It's wrong. It's all been wrong - and I'm sorry, I'm really... sorry, about that. You can’t carry a sick man over the finish line. You shouldn’t be expected to. Now you won’t have to. Violet. Look at the stars shining – like rain beads on a cob-web, glass on a highway. Have you ever thought about life? No, no I mean it – no, I’m not drunk – I’m man enough – how would you kn – a few pills and a – nevermind, the question is NOT am I drunk – the question is – have you ever thought about life? It’s like the stars – no, no – I am, I’m serious – ok then, it’s like the cars on the highway. You could study the cars – like you study the stars. Sounds like kind of a song – doesn’t it. I used to sing to my daughter – when she was small. Nights I would come home – or more likely just, as she would say, “like, emerge” from the study. My daughter would be – should’ve been asleep – but I often think, I like to think – she was pretending, awake really and waiting on a song. I used to sing – oh, snatches of stuff – nursery rhymes, popular songs – never could remember a song all the way through. I don’t suppose it matters, it’s all about the voice – what the voice carries. Like a signal within it. The feeling. Not sure I knew the truth of that feeling – then – but I know I woke up to the fact that I loved mydaughter. Cars – they circle in motion – like thoughts, or the voices you have in your head to keep you awake when you’re driving the... cars – they circle. Yes... kinetic energy – I’m a physicist you understand. The cars whip around the highway, like the planets in space – or the atoms in a reactor. All that energy generated. To what end? Where does all the energy go? I don’t have any left now. I’m so tired. Cars are bodies in motion. My body is motionless now. Cars move people – and they leave them move. I think they have a gravitational field – it bonds the car to the r

MCAT
Saturday, 08 September 2007 02:39:29

I've been fairly absent for awhile because life exploded in my face. Anway, I'm taking the MCAT exam tomorrow and pretty much having a total meltdown and the only thing keeping me from diving into the bottom of a bottle of tequila is the knowledge that I would have to take the stupid test with a hangover. So wish me luck (pretty please) because I think I'm only doing this once.

Notes from DragonCon: Day 1
Saturday, 08 September 2007 03:36:26

I tried to do these for every day. I didn't have the time, though, so this may well be the most detailed of the DragonCon blogs. I'll try to remember everything; I'd like to give those who couldn't make it a taste of how it was. I got to Atlanta Thursday and Jimi and Washie met me at the airport. They were, of course, awesome and sweet. Washie was dropped at the Mariott first and Jimi and I continued to the Hyatt. I was wondering at this point where Magda was, because I didn't think she'd be able to check in without me, since the room had been reserved under my name. I added her, but that came later. Anyway, Jimi had to go pick someone else up so I went in, didn't see Magda. Went to check in, saw the little check in computer machines, and was taking care of that and the most likely person to find me before anyone else came over to say hi. It was a Navy! I didn't recognize him right off; he had to tell me who he was before I glomped him. He wouldn't hug me back until I told him I wouldn't let go til he did. He's a really good hugger. I'm glad he found me rather than hiding from me the whole con, despite the affection-induced trauma I'm sure he'll (claim to) have. Anyway, he introduced his friend Michael (Seils is also a Michael, so the other Scottish Michael became our Auxiliary Backup Michael) and we wandered around aimlessly for a bit, just chatting. I understood a good half of what they said through the thick accents; I was proud. Although some of the credit should go to them, becuase they were really trying to be understood. When they talked to each other in 'Glasweigian' I could only understand the odd word, usually a profanity. So there was wandering and chatting and accents and I finally spotted Magda and Canter coming back into the lobby, squealed, and running glomped my jie jie! Oh, such fun! So we talked a great deal, Canter looked for her roomates, we talked more, mentioned food, talked more, continued the quest to get in touch with roomates, talked, finally got something to eat (the poor Scotsmen hadn't eaten all day) and we wandered back to our hotel (connected to the food court and mall by a bridge over the street) and Seils gave the funniest quote of the con (try to read in a Scottish accent): "I've seen more kilts in this lobby the past two hours than I've seen in Scotland the last two years!" I cracked up so hard at that. I told him it wasn't Americans in general but geeks who seemed drawn to the kilt. Priceless. So after that there was the endless line for Con badges (the Michaels had to go back to their hotel; not sure when they ended up getting checked in) where we spotted and talked to people in Jayne hats and our mei mei Engie found us through VeX and Canter standing on the sidelines. After that there's a blur of hugs, hugs, more hugs, trying to find someone to take us to the dinner Jimi had mentioned and getting walked there nearly two miles by Browncoat1 (also called Booth by the 76th) and his gorgeous wife, who were both delightful. Dinner was fantastic and there was amazing conversation with 'old' friends as well as people I'd never talked to before. I met Gibbs (who gave me Bawls mints, making him one of my favorite people ever. yes I'm that easy) and Zephyr, who started chatting to me about my pentacle without knowing who I was, but realized who I was at one point. He's good friends with Jimi. So I'm a topic of conversation! shiny. I met Aiken the Finder, ShinyHappyKlin, Babywiththepower, Benji, Sister... probably a couple I'm forgetting. I was surrounded by wonderful people, basically. Didn't get to talk to all of them very much; conversation kind of swirled. It was 1:15 when we finally made it back to the hotel, longer than that to part ways and get inside, and the place looked like it was afternoon. Just full of people! Not nearly as many as there would be, but a lot of people for 1:30 in the morning. I dn't think DragonCon ever really slept. So ends day 1. Will post day 2... when I can.

What it's like to bungee-jump
Saturday, 08 September 2007 18:16:27

Hey All Havn't blogged in a while since there's been nothing really to write about, but last week, I finally did something pretty bad-ass to end the summer. So I finished Spanish 110, miraculously passed with a 54, so now I only have two classes, one in each semester before I graduate. Matt came back from Afghanistan (there was actually press for his arrival. We were on the front page alongside West Nile virus, the toy scare, the re-emergence of the KKK and Justin Timberlake, so obviously we were the best news of the day), I helped out with harvest, we went on our road trip to Edmonton where all we did was hang out at the mall and visit relatives, got back for my birthday, which aside from a little save at the very end was pretty much a bust. We got our home entertainment system all set up, except for the cable, which we still haven't figured out how to properly hook up. And my one day of class ended up lasting only a little over half an hour. And with harvest over, there wasn't much for me to do this week, and I'm sure next week won't be too big as well. I'm hoping I can hear back from this T.J. guy about a grip job that's for three days next week. But the big thing that I did do, aside from getting a Blu-Ray player and a few Blu-Ray discs (It sucks that 'Versal is HD-DVD only because there's so many 'Versal titles I want to get), was do the indoor bungee jump at the West Edmonton Mall water park on the 31st. I've wanted to do that ever since I was a kid. And since I've spent three of the last four months in classrooms learning about shit I could care less about, I decided that this time I'd do it and that it would be my one badass thing I'd do this summer. So I went straight up to the kiosk and signed up for 12:30. I got back there early and they took me to this private elevator and across this foyer to where you change and they fit you with the harness. I decided that I'd have a waist harness so that I could just tip over and fall like Peter Petrelli in HEROES, and not to go into the water. I have to admit, it was when I actually started going up the steps to the platform that I started to get nervous and sweat. Everything is all painted in white, but every inch of it is covered with messages written by people who have made the jump. And a lot of them are couples, I noticed. So I get up on the top and at this point my heart is racing and I'm really sweating now, but there's no going back. So the guys check everything and see that everything's tightened up properly. And they tell me to get to the edge. It's only at this point that I'm actually terrified. Like I can see the pool 100 ft below and realize that it's actually pretty shallow in comparison to the drop. And they tell you to put your toes over the edge. They even have two footprints painted on there for you to put your feet over. And as they're doing some last minute things, I'm just repeating to myself "No guts, no glory, no guts, no glory" over and over again. And then they do the countdown. They told me this beforehand and I just assumed it would be a slow countdown, like "5...4...3...2...1", but when they did it, it was just, "54321". And then I fell. Another thing they tell you before you jump is to do it on the first go. Because if you don't then it just gets harder and harder and you lose your nerve. Well, I did it on the first go. And even though I had written "Doin' it Petrelli style" on one of the posts, it was nothing like that. Everything didn't go slo-mo and I don't think I fell off gracefully. All I remember is two or three seconds of weighlessness, the pool rushing up towards me, and out of the corner of my eye the cable dropping. I can't remember if I fell of my own volition or if the guy pushed me. He told me he gave me a bit of a lean, but that I jumped on my own accord. And then all of a sudden I feel myself rocketing back up. My brother, who was watching, told me that I was like a good ten feet above the water before I bounced right back up. And I remember thinking "Yes, I'm alive and I'm

I still have that pair of skinny jeans from when I was a chunky-but-not-obese teen. Today I put on those jeans and saw that they were a size too big! Haha! I'm still not down to my target size, but I'll get there eventually. For now, I'll do my little happy dance for my current success!

I should be happy but I'm not
Sunday, 09 September 2007 00:36:54

Today was great, lined up at the gate around noon and they let us into the stadium at 2. The game kicked off at 3 30 and we were up I think 28 - 0 by the end of the first quarter. We won the game vs Lenoir Rhyne 48-7 and it was cool. I got a little sunburned and I'm exhausted but it was an alright day... So why the hell do I feel so upset? I can't stop thinking about my friend Liz... Liz passed away in February of this year and she was my director at the community theater. We were extremely close and I know more than anything she wanted me to pursue my dream of becoming an actress. I can't help to worry about my future and worry that somehow my dream won't come true and it makes me feel like I'm letting Liz down... My life has not been great so far, I'm eighteen and I'm just waiting for that day when everything clicks and for once things go my way. I want to act more than anything and for once this is something that I want to make me happy, not to please my parents or anyone else. I want to live my life for me but I'm so scared of letting everyone who loves me down... I need a BDH right now to save me

I gots' an IPod!
Sunday, 09 September 2007 20:52:33

YOSH!!! I gots an Ipod for my BDay, thank you Mom! It's a Nano- I feel so loved now, you really have no idea. Now I don't to use my Mom's CD player (Cuz, ya know, mine broke a year ago) which skips when I walk or bike. 500 songs, baby! That's all of Flogging Molly, Ensiferum, Lamb of God, Thrice, Rammstein, Dropkick Murphys, and eventually Disturbed and Finntroll. This day has gotten a 100% on the awesomeness scale. -Danny

Waiting No More
Sunday, 09 September 2007 21:48:30

i have returned! i finally got my internet hooked up and i just wanted to thank everyone for reading and responding to the "Tired Of Waiting" fic. i wasn't setting out to write a piece of humor, but then suddenly River came in and got a hold of the inkpot and...really, Wash's thought was my own reaction to the writing: A Shepherd, a Companion, a doctor and a genius took over the ship. They were armed with paint. I didn't have a chance. so, i just went with the flow. nothing else would have worked. i'm just glad everyone else liked it, too! i'm going to be catching up on all the shininess since i've been away, so if i'm quiet for a while...many, many apologies. till we meet again...

Wake Up and Smell the Blue Sun Coffee
Monday, 10 September 2007 11:57:28

Of course, it's probably decaffeinated and fat-free and all the other stuff that makes it booooring... I've been in Cornwall for a week. Lovely weather, rather too many Cornish cream teas and some lovely walking on the cliffs at Tintagel. A word of advice, though; don't eat a huge meal of shellfish and then read H P Lovecraft before going to bed. The indigestion-fuelled dreams were...interesting. Came back and found that the Cat has been fighting and has a very manky ear. If he wasn't 'done', I would seriously consider renaming him after Our Favourite Mercenary - all he does is feast and fight. (The third 'f' being denied him...) He's getting old, now, but hasn't quite realized that he no longer has the speed and power that he once had. So, I'm back at my desk, nicely refreshed and with a headful of extremely odd scenes that I have to organise. But. I have been accused, in the nicest possible way, of Mary-Suedom, and have consequently lost my nerve a bit. I didn't think it was that bad. I could go back and delete everything after chapter 9 of the first fic, of course. But I am extremely proud of 'Zen and the Art...' Granted, parts of 'Cold Comfort Mountain' were a little flabby, but that was down to writing through a block, and I did warn folks that that was a Cobbcentric piece. Er...as was 'Viva New Vegas'. Guess I'm on a loser here. Hell with it. It's canon, post-BDM, closely referenced from official sources. I've introduced one OC for a very specific reason (and not the obvious self-indulgent one.) If folks can't see past the OC, and just want a round of bunk-hopping with the crew, just keep walking. After all, this is the Jossverse. We could have started an episode with a 'long-lost sibling' who was really a space-entity.

something scary, something fun
Monday, 10 September 2007 14:13:48

My hubby is in the Navy, he's a corpman, which is basically a med tech. Currently he isn't working the floor at the hospital, but is a supervisor, but occasionally things happen to scare me. Every month or so he has med-evac duty which means he hops in an ambulance bus, heads from Bethesda down to Andrews AFB and picks up kids from the planes coming from Germany. Most of the time these are kids (I say kids, because, most of them are young marines, soldiers, airmen) coming from Iraq, Afghanistan, etc and they are usually on life support. Now, Marines don't have med techs, a Navy corpman is assigned a unit of marines to serve as 'doc' to the marines. As a matter of fact my husband is on a list as an alternate to go to Kuwait in January. ANyhoo, so he goes on this med-evac run last week, they pick up the guys and start heading back to Bethesda. So, the husband is watching over a guy whose pelvis is shattered and he's got tubes everywhere. they are barreling thru downtown DC and this guy is trying to talk to my husband. My hubby tries to explain to the guy that he can't hear and understand him because of the sirens and the tubes. The guy keeps trying to get his point across and realization dawns on my husband. They trained together a little more than a year ago. This guy was sent out to OIF and my husband got the cushy hospital job! Back at the hospital my husband got the whole story from the guy's wife. Apparently, they were traveling and their convey was caught in a firefight and their truck was overturned. the guy directed his marines to pull out anyone left in the truck and then instructed these guys in triaging their friends, since he was unable with his shattered pelvis. So, i get a little cranky when my husband comes home from work late, (cut me some slack, i'm the one stuck with a two-year old) well after he explained what had happend, i forgave him and wanted to cry because it's just scary! now, onto a happier note...has anybody played katamari damacy? i just downloaded the demo for 360 and it's the best three minutes of my life! Really, i am in love with it!

Monday, 10 September 2007 21:48:12

Stick a Fork in me cause I am done
Monday, 10 September 2007 23:24:03

Well, I think I will be away for awhile. Himself has decided that he can just stop paying his court ordered monies. Because of this the house payment is not going to be made, which automatically puts me into foreclosure. I am looking for a second, second job (or is that third job) and trying to figure out what I have that will sell. Prostitution would be a thought except ewwwww. There was talk of a website with a paypal address, but I can think of people more deserving than me. Anyway, thats they way it is in Foley.

Notes from DragonCon: Day 2
Tuesday, 11 September 2007 03:12:24

So on day two (Friday) everyone woke up late, dallied around, yakked like nothing else, and finally got our rears in gear when Washie called Engie. We went to Hard Rock Cafe for breakfast/lunch, met Whim and Tommy and Washie there, and it was quite lovely. Burgers weren't as good as the vortex, but the waitstaff was sexy (one was done up like a blond Jack Sparrow; there are pictures of us with him somewheres) and when we got up 'Bohemian Rhapsody' was playing on the screen, and I started to sing along and so did Clara and random people coming out of the gift shop stopped to sing with us. Engie has a great pic of me headbanging with Silent Bob (not the real one, just a damn good cosplay of one) so that was fun. Then I think we had to run to the panel with Mark Sheppard (Ron Glass couldn't make it) and that was an incredible time. He's very eloquent and cool. As I was leaving, I saw someone in a perfect Jayne hat and ran over to ask where he got it, and he pointed out Serenity to me, so I got to meet her (she promised to sell me one of her last non-wool hats) and TheRealMe and a couple other people... and Karel tapped me on the shoulder, so I met him... and then we left because there was supposed to be a thing at Jimi's room... I think. The details are already going fuzzy, oh noes! But I know we headed over to the Marriott, and Magda found a ninja kitty on the way, and she was incredibly sweet but stayed hidden behind a pillar. She also wouldn't be photographed solo, but I have shots of her with me and her with Magda. She's so gorgeous. So yeah, there was a room party at Jimi's and... I'm trying to remember who all was there. Engie didn't come with us; I think there was a Buffy thing she wanted to do. Sister had her awesome Zoe gun, and I think Mircea was there, and Fillygirl, who was so pleased that I was there because she hadn't known I would be at the Con. She was such a sweetie. She lives in Denver, so hopefully I'll get to see her again sometime before the next Con. Um... then I think we went to another room party. Yes, the one at Booth's. It was great fun. I called Nico and told everyone to say hi. He was really happy and really jealous and adorable. I told him how many people had told me they wished he could have come (some of whom had no clue who I was or that I knew him at all) and he was pleased and also sad. I think after that we dragged back to our room to sleep. Engie and Clara were already passed out when Magda and I got in. It was about two in the morning? I can't remember. So... yeah, that's all I can remember from Friday. I'm sure I missed something, but it's such a blur. It was amazing fun, just hanging out with everyone and meeting people. There was a lot of that at DragonCon

Notes from DragonCon: Day 3
Tuesday, 11 September 2007 23:16:00

Okay! Saturday! A lot happened on Saturday! Let's see... I woke up late. I think the parade was Saturday, but I didn't wake up until Engie came back from it. I was knackered from the late partying. I decided to wear my best Saffron clothes and wander around with a tube of lipstick in my cleavage. It worked okay; not many people realized who I was supposed to be. Gibbs says he did, though. Anyway, to start with I went to check out the vendor stalls. Yaaay for shopping! I got a shirt and a fan... and maybe something else. I did much more shopping the next day, though. But I wandered around with the Scotsmen until it was time to head over to the Marriott for some food. We got there way early and wandered around there a bit more, taking in the views. Then more people started to show up, and a sweet little girl named Stevie thought throwing the 76th mini business cards over the railing would be a good marketting thing; she'd seen a bunch of flyers flutter down. Buy she didn't want to hurt anyone, so we tested a few first; she and me and AB Michael. Securty then rushed up, threatened to have us arrested if we left, led us down to the bowels of the hotel, told us we were banned for the next year, took our pictures, and only stopped being complete dicks when the poor little girl started crying. It was obviously ridiculous and wrong of them, and I almost wish I had fought more over it, but I was a little overwhelmed and trying to comfort poor Stevie, who was really the sweetest little thing you'll ever meet, felt guilty as hell, and really didn't want to cause any harm. Well, people congregated in front of the hotel to meet us, we told them what happened, Flat Top gave us hugs, Lila started plotting to go to the press about it if they kept being assholes, and Canter had already gone upstairs to work her legal skills. How many 20somethings can pull a South African lawyer out of thin air? Lila and Canter then used the "We're not going away until you give us what we want, you're being unreasonable, these girls are devastated, they paid to go to this con, and we're just going to take up your time until you admit that" technique on the dick of a hotel manager and finally got to talk to the Event Coordinator, who was very reasonable and agreed that it was stupid and let us back in. So that was an adventure. AB Michael was so tickled and optomistic the whole time, too, it was hilarious. Anyway, we jumped that hurdle and went up to eat the excellent food Jimibear had provided, and I talked to many shiny people. In fact, I hung out way after most people had left chatting with Justin (who's screen name is anotherfireflyfan, and who I'd never gotten to talk to before) and Gibbs and the Scots. It was awesome fun and we all headed down to the shindig together. There was a ridiculous line, the fire marshal freaked out (again) about how many people were in one hotel, and when we finally got in it was hard to find anyone else because of how dark and crowded it was. Saw Serenity again, but I'd forgotten to bring hat money. Talked to NaughtyMan, sampled the beer he tried to give me and nearly retched, yakked more with Justin, waited for Jimi and Magda and VeX, took pics of them when they got there, sat through some music on a bad sound system and finally called it quits. Whim or someone had heard there was a room party at Jimi's and we headed there. Magda and Engie joined me and Navy and Whim there and fun was had by all. I traumatized Navy with forehead kisses and he hid in the corner. Gibbs (who I don't think was at the shindig) was there in his sexy Romo costume, and there was lots of talking and just more fun times. We didn't leave until at least three in the morning. End day three. *edit* I think thee was a panel with Ron Glass and Mark Sheppard in there somewhere. I know that I went to one. There was one with Mark, one with both of them, and then one with just Ron, so it all worked out. Though I missed a lot of the one with just Ron. Umm... Yeah, I can't remember. Also, I realized I had omitted a fun story about one of the pics I ha

Something I learned Yesterday...
Wednesday, 12 September 2007 20:12:54

I just thought I'd share something that I learned in my movement class yesterday... Usually I walk into the class burdened with stress and my mind on all of the insane things that I have to do that day... Our teacher told us to go ahead, get our towels and do our constructive rest which is supposed to change our energy focus... Surprisingly she turned on this music after we got up and just told us to let go and move around and the results were amazing. Immediately all of my stress melted away and I just felt happier... So here's what I learned. If you ever feel overwhelmed or just tired and stressed turn on some energetic music and just MOVE around and dance. Make sure your body feels the connection to the floor and move in all three plains - low middle and high... Let go of all abandon and I guarantee that you'll feel better afterward :) I love acting :)

Notes foom DragonCon: Day 4
Wednesday, 12 September 2007 20:39:30

Sunday! Slept way, way late, until the Michaels came knocking. I told them I'd meet them there at 11:30 and we'd go find Serenity and get hats. Well, it was quarter to one and they'd just gotten up and I was still sleeping. But I got dressed and we set out to get some breakfast. Found Lila and had some food, and we all headed for the vendor rooms where I bought a bunch of stuff. Pirate hat, jingly belt, knives, pretty shirt, whip, that kind of thing. We found Magda and Canter and Jimi, and then we had our very own room party! We had to clean up, and a lot of stuff ended up in the corners. But yeah, we told everyone we could find to head on up. We found the rum. Jimi passed out. We watched the costume contest on DC TV and it was lots of fun. Rocky Horror was showing that night, so I started to get ready. Quite a few people had said they'd go with me, but ultimately only Engie and Clara did. Damn thing was delayed for a lame ass concert, but we finally got in and it was great fun. Engie met a boy. There was a very sexy guy wearing a Serenity shirt under his corset. I made people laugh with my out of state callback lines. I had no idea how much my cast had changed a few things up, but people seemed to like it. Anyway, we got back around five and Jimi was still passed out and the Scotsmen were nearly there. Lila had been invited to stay, of course, but it was a tight squeeze with her,Magda and Jimi in one bed, and me, the Scots, and Clara in the other. But no one seemed to mind except Navy. So ends day four. I know I'm missing a lot of details. I really should have stuck to writing things out before going to bed.

My Nan's Browncoat confusion
Thursday, 13 September 2007 11:01:36

My Nan just wandered up to my room and threw down my browncoat hoody, the one that says may have been the losing side still not convinced it was the wrong one. Anyway she threw it down and asked quite calmly are you secretly a Nazi. I ROFL for like ten minutes before explaining to her about firefly etc, etc. She eventually left giving me some truely terrifying looks. I dont think i'll wear my other browncoat t-shirt for the rest of her stay! But i love the idea that if i was secretly doing anything I'd have it written in large letters on my clothing. How stupid does she think I am! Actually I probably dont want to know the answer to that. Bless her craziness!

Notes from DragonCon - Final
Thursday, 13 September 2007 19:50:20

Monday was the last official day of DragonCon. Engie and Clara had to leave. Also had to reschedule their flight because the time had gotten mixed up and they missed the plane. Poor Engie mei mei was frantic about it, but it got worked out in the end. Then it was time for more shopping. I got a lanyard (about damn time) and a copy of On the Drift and presents for a couple of my favorite people who had been planning to come but couldn't. Then I had a bit of a meltdown because, well, I felt left behind. Poor Zephyr caught me in the act of storming back to my room and took the full brunt of my frustration and anger, which wasn't at all what I wanted, but he was absolutely wonderful to me. He knew I wasn't mad at him and he offered to stay there with me and he told Jimi and Lila (diplomatically I'm sure) that I was having raging mood swings and freaking out. They came up to talk, the Scotsmen sat on my lap, and we all headed to the post-con shindig. Oh, also, Zeph lent me his Serenity zippo lighter and I temporarily killed it. I think I amazed/frightened a few people because it refused to light after I'd held it a bit and calmed down, and then was fine twenty minutes later. That was funny. It was a long drive in a packed minivan but we finally arrived. I had more fun than I thought I would. I got a gun. I shot a few people. I stole Canter's gun and she twisted my arm to get it back. I had fresh bao. I did my best River-ish dancing to the Bedlam Bards's version of her Safe dance. Shot some more things. Noticed a few disappearances. Chatted with the Bedlam Bards, who were beyond awesome and had a Wiccan Fish on their truck. Magda got drunk and I was irritated about that (yes jie jie, I was, sorry.) Not that people weren't drinking, but there's a certain level of innebraition that makes me unsettled. We finally drove back to the hotel in the wee small hours, and those leaving early in the morning napped. The Scotsmen crashed with us again, though Navy insisted on staying on the floor. I fell deep asleep and woke up at 9:30 when my alarm went off. Navy complained about sleeping on the cold hard floor and I was unsympathetic, having told him it was fine if he slept in the bed again. I got all packed, went and checked out just shy of my deadline, and set out for the train station so I could get to the airport. The Michaels walked me there and hugged me goodbye, and off I went. Got to the airport just fine, checked my stuff, and headed to the gate. I had about two and a half hours before my flight, but I ran into TheRealMe a couple gates down from mine, so I got to talk to him for awhile before his flight left. I wondered why he wasn't on the same flight as me, but he was flying to Colorado Springs, whereas I opted for Denver. Cuz, you know, Denver's closer to where I live and all. Plus the Colorado Springs flight was going to Dallas first, and who needs that, right? *snicker* But it was great talking to him; I soaked up those last drops of Browncoat Convention goodness. So. That's all. Now it's just over a week later and I'm having serious Browncoat withdrawls. Can't wait for my next trip for Browncoaty goodness down in Texas with Dano! Talked to ArtCat about the shindigs they have down there, so I'll time my trip for the first weekend of October. God, if I can't make it I'm gonna cry. No, I'll make it, I just might have to find someone willing to let me stay with them for a couple days, since money is still rather tight from the con. And speaking of money, I have to give a shout out to MsG, who is too sweet to be allowed and running a campaign to raise money so I can go to Australia! *squee!!*

Sunday, 16 September 2007 03:14:04

Yesterday was an impossibly hectic day, but somehow I found the time to download the pilot of "Chuck" from amazon.com. (It was free, and I'll take almost anything that's free!) I didn't get around to watching it until tonight. And, perhaps this is the kind of show that we've been looking for since the F-- Network gave "Drive" the boot. Fortunately, this show will air on NBC, which is owned by Universal. (Did I mention how much I love those guys?) The only thing better would be a revival series of "Firefly". The show is sooooo funny with a girl-troubled genius (he went to Stanford, that's smart for me) named Chuck working as a head Nerd Herd (aka-Geek Squad) at a Buy More (aka-Best Buy... why those guys didn't OK using their name is unknown and a

Back in the west
Sunday, 16 September 2007 14:11:33

I have been home for almost one week now. It wasn't really sad to leave St. Petersburg. After six weeks living out of a suitcase and a rather unpleasant confrontation with some of those who rented us apartments near the end, it was rather nice to head back to drinkable tap water and waiters that have heard the word service and have a concept of what it means. I'm definitely going back though. It's an absolutely beautiful city, with an interesting history. I do want to go other places in Russia too. Here at home its raining, its cold, I'm unemployed and broke. Not the highpoint of my life. Finding work is boring. I do wish I was still a student... well, it will be alright. It always turns out well... most of the time anyway.

THEOLOGY AND GROCERY finally up
Sunday, 16 September 2007 23:38:21

Hey All As some of you know, I am a film student at the U of R, and that I created this short film last year called THEOLOGY AND GROCERY. This short film is actually a scene from a larger movie I have in mind, my dream movie if you will. It's a romantic drama in the vein of BEFORE SUNRISE/SUNSET. I mention this because in my dream movie, I had envisioned my two leads to be played by Jewel and Sean as polar opposites of their characters that we all know and love. Well, I finally got around to digitizing it and posting it online. It's not on YouTube (for some reason I never got a confirmation e-mail back from them), but on Facebook. I just discovered it, and it is way better than MySpace. So if any of you would like to peek at so far the best work I've done and imagine Jewel and Sean in these roles, the link is below.

Monday, 17 September 2007 12:47:52

So my weekend was pretty good! Aside from one of my best friends telling me she never wants to talk to me again. but surprisingly i'm not THAT hurt by it. I went to my school's football game and we WON! which is a miracle :] Then yesterday morning my mom couldn't find anything on TV so she told me i could put something on, which of course i put on Firefly. We watched Ariel and she loved it! And wants to see the rest of the series and the movie! ha, its just so funny since she said she didn't really like it before. OH! and i made some fruity oatey bars...although they turned out more like fruity oatey cake. But everyone liked em! lol

Comeuppance: Afterword
Tuesday, 18 September 2007 04:08:54

Hey all. Having read the responses that you’ve been kind enough to post and comments from others who had read it in the story’s infancy, I felt a little compelled to write a response of my own. I promise I won’t soapbox too much. The first thing people said when I told them about this is “Why those two?” sayings like “never see it being realistic” were thrown about, and from those of you that know me, them’s fightin’ words. So I did just that. Went down that avenue. The scenario, the gunslinger and the concubine, is about as old as Zane Grey Westerns. While I will admit it took a little work, and their personalities aren’t what you’d call compatible, they are in one sense perfect for each other. They are both outside the social mores, at least to our eyes, so there’s no “I’m better than you are” mentality going on. Inara’s profession does give her social status, but despite that she’s often looked down upon, Atherton Wing’s treatment of her is a prime example. Jayne couldn’t care less about society or it’s laws, as long as they don’t infringe on him. His initial reaction to the Mudders worship of him is first unnerving, then he completely gives in to hero worship, and then when Stitch reveals the sham, he’s ashamed. But what the rest of the ‘Verse thinks? Who gives a rat’s ass…. So there is no moral high ground for either one of them to stand on. Inara only tells Jayne to behave so his cover won’t be blown, not because she believes him inferior. But why would Jayne love Inara? What lengths would he go through to either fulfill that desire, or suppress it, or what would happen if she found out? Worthier Questions. Most people think they choose who they love. They couldn’t be further from the truth. I’ve talked with more people than I could readily admit and asked them about what made them choose that person to love, to spend the rest of their lives with and only three came up with an answer. People choose who to have a relationship with, sure, but sometime’s who you love can hit you right smack in the middle of other things…and those things might be an angry Captain….. And writing other pairings? Mal/Inara shippers? You have way too easy a job… Same goes for Simon/Kaylee pairings….I wrote one of those too but it’ll never see the light of day…as it’ll never work now….but I digress… Also, why if this is the girl Mal loves does he keep treating her like crap? Inara: You lay a man out for implying I’m a whore, but you keep calling me one to my face…’Shindig’ He acts all possessive of her, but calls her a whore. He defends her honor, but calls her a whore. Strange behavior from a guy who loves a girl. To cap it off, he sleeps with her friend…..yeah, way to go there, killer…. Oh, and the idea that Mal and Jayne fighting about her….making the situation ‘ugly’ When, oh when, have two big grown men with guns and fists and the ability and willingness to use ‘em both to get what they want in life ever sat down and discussed “You slept with my girl even though she ain’t my girl and I call her a whore all the time” over tea and dumplings? When…….? Still waiting…anyone? I’m not ranting about this, though it may appear that way, but I just want to make a point. I had said that writer’s write what they know. This is a truism in most cases. I have a pair of cousins on the Jersey side of my family famous in three counties for extending a fistfight over a girl they both dated in the 90’s…… to this day we don’t invite both of them to the family reunion picnic. They look at each other, say “Denise” to each other, and there goes the potato salad…and everything else…my point is they would have fought over her. This has been going on since the Stone Age, people. Anyone not expecting these two not to fight over her is naïve at best. Mal and Jayne? Discuss? Who are we kidding? Myself, being a supporter of the idea that there’s more to the merc than meets the eye, figures he owes Mal a knockout since Mal sucker-wrenched him in ‘Ariel’. He may have deserved it, maybe not, but they couldn

(Not here. It's not here, don't look.) It's autumn here, and getting colder by the day. A long winter is forthcoming, but such is to be expected for one who inhabits the good land of Canada. French Canada, actually. That's right! Born and raised in Quebec! 100% certified frog! How's that? But let's quit babbling about the "around me" so much. Now, we get to the heart of matter. Which would be "me". Only, you see, there's a kinda hitch. As of now, "me" is in a real shady place. Hard to get too, somewhat. Oh we try to keep in touch. Well... I know for certain I do. But, he's one tight-lipped fellow. Taciturn, you might say. Not one for the calling & writing so much. Plus he's a sneaky one, adept at shape-shifting. 'Barely recognize him my own self sometimes. So, until I finaly get a hold of him, I'm afraid we will have to defer the matter. Hey, and you tell me if you catch a sight of him. He's just about 6 feet tall, kinda lanky. 'Likes to wander around in a rustish-red coat. He's notorious for his wild (as in untamed) hairstyle, all long and brownish and curly. That, you really can't miss. So, that's it for today. Have a nice life.

Star Crossed
Wednesday, 19 September 2007 07:35:47

Finally managed to see the Outer Limits episode STAR CROSSED with our dear captain! He is wonderful (as expected) particularly as there's quite a lot of him on display at one point! However, as for the episode itself, as much as I wish I could say I would give it five stars, I can't. It is so obviously a version of Casablanca, with Nathan in the 'Rick - Humphrey Bogart' role ... which in itself is fine ... but trying to shoehorn the story into forty minutes makes it cramped. BUT ... and this is a big but ... there are a few sequences that make it worth it! Won't tell you what they are, but I liked them. BTW, I managed to download it from

A Recipe for Disaster...
Wednesday, 19 September 2007 14:01:08

Take some Gibson, add a splash of Philip K Dick, a soupcon of Herbert and season with a little Harrison. In a separate container, take a little Ford, mix in some Leone, and a dash of Shaara. Combine elements thoroughly, then garnish with wu xiao, and strain through a mind warped by coffee and too much television. I can see this place so clearly. From the grand and gargoyled facade of the Justice Building in the Central Square on Londinium, to the Star Line shipping out of Aberdeen, to the city of lights that is Sihnon, rooflines of a design old on Earth that Was transplanted under a new sky. Other worlds. A plain that is nothing but a storm of ash under a scalded sky, that was once a living world with a horizon big as freedom. Small, dusty worlds with the heart mined out of them, held together with hope and pride. Worlds where the houses are on stilts, and the people travel the humid swamps on flat-bottomed boats. Cold, green little worlds, and worlds where other moons shine down on deserts, and the skyline is broken by the stark geometric lines of a transplanted history. And everywhere, the people. With the same small concerns that people have always had, spreading out and living their lives. Whether cupping a small bowl of green tea in hands grown cold with early dawn, as you look down from a balcony over quiet valleys, or grabbing a bowl of noodles from the stall on the corner by the el, ready for another day of cubicle hell before you can get out to the park. Or sitting in the pilot's chair of a battered little ship, looking out into the starfield. All these worlds to play in.

The places I never thought I'd go...
Thursday, 20 September 2007 18:17:09

...I go for Browncoats. this month is was Atlanta, of all the crazy places. Why is one of the biggest geekfests in Atlanta? And why are so many 'coats drawn there? I don't know, but there I was. Those who've read my blogs know what a blast I had. And no one tried to burn me at the stake! Next month, Houston. Yeah, me in Texas. Who thought they'd ever see the day? But again, going for Browncoats. Not only is one of my best Browncoat buddies from overseas taking a trip there, but Houston has a really active bunch of Browncoats, so there will be shindigs! I'm in serious 'coat/huggle withdrawl after D*C, so I'm excited to go! And what's next? Australia. A place I never thought I'd go not because it just wasn't my kind of place, but because it's so far away. No idea when I'll manage it, but it's next on my list, and with the help of some incredible people I know I'll get there. It's dauntingly expensive, but I'm still determined.

Anti-Pax, and it's sequel......
Friday, 21 September 2007 00:15:29

Thanks to all first off who repsonded on the first blog. Damn but if replys ain't addictive! LOL. Wifey does fish. I wasn't referring to her, Leiasky. pfft! :P okay back to topic...some of you (okay maybe one of you) expressed an interest in a sequel to the "Simon as Reaver" story. It's in it's works, but I have a dilemma.... Who gets it? I mean really? So here's a poll....who's the reaver, and who gets offed? Any ideas? I do have some, and they're whoppers......this will not be an editied story (As Anti-Pax was, the first version of which was at least two paragraphs longer in terms of gore) and I'm thinkin' of a no-holds-barred scenario....So the only warning you get is this...if the first one gives you the willies...then you might not want to read this one..... And it's not a dream, this time.... Keep flyin' everyone! BBJ

Dearest those that think having sex with a child is a GOOD idea - off yourselves. Seriously, there is no coming back from that. So, if you are looking at the childrens section of the JC Penney catalog and you are thinking "I gots to get me some of that" - just go into the backroom, take out the handgun and blow out your brains. It will make the world a safer and nicer place for the rest of us.

k.i.s.s.
Friday, 21 September 2007 23:03:50

A couple of months ago, I started on a second chapter of "Inheritance" b/c so many of you asked for more... then I got stuck! The story was so complex and corny, that I refused to let it grace it's presence on this site. So, I shelved the series b/c I wanted to find a different storyline that would not be overtly complicated to fallow. The other day in one of my film classes, the instructor mentioned k.i.s.s. (keep it simple, stupid). And I got to thinking on this as well as Joss's concept for "Firefly": no matter what century you live in, we still have the same problems. Somehow, the story for chapter 2 found its way to me and I can now I can start writing again. It's a totally new story that is very true to life. I'm so excited to continue it... but, after all my work for school is done of course. So, it may be a while for chapter 2 to be published. In the mean time, the rest of you keep writing!

The Things You Learn in College...
Saturday, 22 September 2007 03:32:12

This isn't going to be a happy log but I need to vent and to be honest this is the only place where I feel like I am actually listened to. I guess that to fully explain where I'm coming from I should start at the beginning. This is a really hard subject to talk about so if you want to stop reading, do it now. Around Easter break of my junior year in high school a boy I thought was one of my best friends decided to come get me and take me out to ice cream. We never got to the ice cream parlor. He pulled into a parking lot of and started to kiss me and put his hands all over me. I tried to get him to stop but he wouldn't until I tried to get out of the car. I demanded he take me home and he did, mainly because I think he was scared of my mother. I didn't ever talk to him again after that and I've not really trusted anyone since. He was my friend, he hurt me and I thought it was my fault. I blamed myself because I couldn't say no loud enough... This morning in my Marriage and Family relations class a woman came and talked to us about rape and the myths and facts of it. I never realized it but, under the definition she gave us, my "friend" raped me. This is the first time I've ever admitted it. Firefly/Serenity is my escape from this world and thank god I have those stories to lose myself in. And thank god for all of you people who listen to me whine and complain and aren't too hard on me. You guys are Big Damn Heroes in your own respects!

Ann Arbor, MI "Can't stop the Serenity"
Saturday, 22 September 2007 23:15:09

I just got home from the 1:00 PM showing at the Michigan theater. It was a really great experience; well worth the nearly 300 mile round trip. This was the first time that I've made it to anything like one of these, and I'd like to thank the people with the Michigan Browncoats for all they did. There is another showing tomorrow at the same time, just in case anyone in the area hadn't heard before.

Women are not complicated
Sunday, 23 September 2007 01:49:23

I am so tired of hearing that we are. If I had a dollar for every time I've heard "Women sometimes know what they don't want, but they don't know what they do want." or "Women always get complicated." or "I'll never understand women." or something in a similar vein, I would be lying on a beach instead of sitting in front of my computer reeking of burnt coffee from my wage-slave job. Women want three very simple things. 1) To understand what is going on 2) To be acknowledged and appreciated (on a regular basis, not just once in awhile; a kind word, a hug, a kiss, a truly thrilling roll in the hay, you get the idea. As often as possible!) 3) Chocolate Why is that complicated? Am I wrong? Seriously. Sometimes situations can get complicated, or women seem to be overreacting to something not understood, but I am convinced that it can be traced back to either not understanding what's going on or just wanting to be told she's loved and appreciated. Or possibly a problem that she can't fix. I guess that's the other thing that can send me over the edge. But when there's a problem I can't fix, often the best solution is someone to hug me and say it's okay. Or fix the problem if they have the power to do so. Or both! Hey, both is good. Chocolate also helps. I can't imagine this is just me. So am I the only not-really-that-complicated woman around? Sure, I freely admit I have my times of freaking out, but it's always pretty simple as to why. Specifics change, but those general things don't. I need to understand, I need a hug, or I need chocolate. Simple. Not complicated.

Fan to Fanatic
Sunday, 23 September 2007 03:53:49

Well I stepped off in it now. I never thought I would fall into the fanatic category. I've never had the urge to dress as a Jedi, or don rubber ears and pretend to be logical. That is until I found Firefly. Now I didn't intend to "geek out" over Firefly but little by little I found that I was. Besides watching it more times than I can count, I found myself telling everyone I ran across about this great show. Then my desire for more took me online, where I searched for, and changed regularly, new images to display as my wallpaper. Then came the collectibles. A comic book here a companion guide there, checking my bank balance against the auction about to close on Ebay. I joined more forums than I can visit in a day, bring up discussions that I'm sure they have had a hundred times since the show left the air. No one seemed to mind. Although I never had been sucked in before I had heard of the arguments over Kirk or Picard or which Lightsaber color is better. Browncoats weren't like that. Far from it. Now you might think at this point the transformation was complete but not quite. I found this site and fan fiction. In my search for more Firefly I found you guys and gals that have expanded the verse with a library of literature, and for the first time I did what I up until that point I thought impossible, I joined in reading your great stories and adding my own attempts. The transformation is complete I am a fanatic. I'm am happy I only need a long brown coat to show my support. I think the rubber ears would be annoying.

Sunday, 23 September 2007 04:55:33

I am feeling extremely wacky right now...and that just sounded right. Anyway, new First job up, still nothing on Possibilities, am still stuck on that....I have written some more in it, but not anywhere near enough to post. Actually I've erased enough to post three times over... Still plugging away at it though, so don't give up, I'm not going to ditch it so have patience. Enjoy and thanks for reading my work!

How to treat a woman... (lovely little quote from a book I'm reading)
Sunday, 23 September 2007 07:52:34

Hey all, just ran across this little segment and I found it to be very true to how I feel when it comes to women... please note, there is some foul language in this quote... you HAVE been warned!!! "Now let's move on to the subject of how a real man treats his wife. A real man doesn't slap even a ten-dollar hooker around, if he's got any self-respect, much less hurt his own woman. Much less ten times over the mother of his kids. A real man busts his ass to feed his family, fights for them if he has to, dies for them if he has to. And he treats his wife with respect every day of his life, treats her like a queen-the queen of the home she makes for their children." Now I realise that last line may be a bit sexist, but you get the general idea... and this is totally true of how I feel. -BC07

My cousin's wedding
Sunday, 23 September 2007 10:08:03

Hi there, My cousin, Christopher, got married yesterday and all in all it was a good day. Apart from the flies. Seriously, they were everywhere. Claire, his wife, looked lovely. The dress was beautiful, not over the top at all, just simple and elegant. Although, my side of the family did spend half the service in hysterics because one of the hymns was absolutely dreadful. I can't remember what it was called but there was no discernible tune and every line seemed to have a different tune. It was awful. It was nice to see the relatives again. Since my Grandma died, I've barely seen them. Other random things: my cousin, Leslie, was mortified because someone had a very similar dress to her, my cousin Tom has an absolutely horrible moustahce and someone asked my Uncle Joe if he was Christopher's brother. That boosted his ego no end. Also my dad decided to paint his cast with white emulsion to cover up the blood on it. We didn't go to the evening disco because my dad can't drive 'cos of his broken arm (something that is driving him up the wall) and my mam refuses to drive in the dark. TTFN Jennifer -x-

Monday, 24 September 2007 20:46:04

I'm in this Film Rhetoric class right now. It's a lot of reading, but the professor is so amazing, energetic, and funny! She said that we could suggest a film to view as long as we brought in the movie ourselves and she'll pick a date to view. Guess what I brought in?! Unfortunately, two other people brought in other movies, so we had to vote on what to watch next week. She announced that the choices were

Tuesday, 25 September 2007 18:00:18

I'm new to the site, but at least 3 years a fan of Firefly and a Browncoat. My husband and I run a small sci fi/fantasy store in Boulder called Wonderland Faire. If you want, we are on the web at wonderlandfaire.com. We would appreciate if Browncoats would check us out, maybe drop a line or 2. If you live in the Boulder area, drop in and say Howdy! We both love Firefly and my husband still can't get over the fact that Joss killed Wash! Anyway, hope to see and hear from as many of you as possible. If you make it into our store, mention that you're a Browncoat and we'll give you 10% off you purchase. Thanks guys!

Wednesday, 26 September 2007 08:16:25

Ok, so I was crashing around Amazon.com for fun, looking at "Those Left Vehind" (the comic between the BDM and the show) and I realized something... something very sad, and very VERY scarey, considering how much money I'll need... I own NO series and next to no movies that I really feel I should.... guess I'm gunna be spending a lot of time at work, makeing money to buy movies/series... and on that note, anyone have any suggestions? I'm planning on getting all of Buffy, all of Angel, all of Charmed, Heros 1st season ('cause I never really had a chance to watch it :crap:) probably gunna get the first season of Dexter... anything ellse anyone can think of?

Ok this transition to new email system at my school is not going smoothly.... and it's yet again down....this is not exactly enhancing my calm as I've barely slept, worked 14 hours yesterday and have another 14 to work today...so if anyone hears of a teacher being arrested for destroying a server with a baseball bat, I just wanted y'all to know that was me....and I was completely justified:) HUGS to you all Oh and I can't access Yahoo email because it's blocked to prevent us from crashing the network ( because some of the teachers don't know how to avoid viruses and they decided it was easier to block us all then to try and get all the teachers up to speed)

Friday, 28 September 2007 02:32:34

I want to profoundly thank everyone who was so wonderful and generous and sweet and sent me money to get to Australia. It was the most amazing thing that’s ever been done for me. In a month I got about $450 and it was... really an incredible response. I will not be going. Anyone who wants what they gave back, I will return your money. Anyone else, I thank you again and will use the funds for my trip to Houston in two weeks, or on DragonCon bills; either mine or Magda’s, whatever would be preferred. I’m sorry. It’s not what I wanted. It really isn't. Thank you, all, for being so wonderful.

The buyers' lawyer sucks. He's also representing their bank. We could, and should, have closed on the sale of our house a month ago if not more. This guy is a known weenie. I'm being polite, here. Now we're making another mortgage payment and carrying insurance on a house that *theoretically* sold back in July. I hope he chokes on his next martini olive.
