TV sucks
Wednesday, 01 August 2007 17:49:00

I know I am preaching to the choir on this one, but seriously, I hate TV, it's makin' us stupid. I dont' know how many shows I have been invested in that have been canned in favor of such soaring excellence as oh, another bachelor installment, or smarter than a fifth grader, or ARMY WIVES. :fork: That last one is what I want to rant about. I can't say it isn't well written, I don't know, I have only seen one episode, but what gets me is that people are going to think ill of me, because of the way they portray a military wife on that show. I am not a skank, nor am I white trash, or a drunk, a door mat, or a gossip. Okay, well, sometimes I like a little gossip, but hey, I'm trying ;D. I don't cheat on my husband because he is deployed. (He isn't right now) I know more women who are cheated on by their deployed husbands than the opposite. Being married to the military if you will, is hard. The Marine's say "we didn't issue you a family" and brush people off. That is not always the way we are treated, but it does happen. And how sad is this...the army post I live on has it's own WIC clinic? Yoo hoo! COngress, can we get a pay raise for the men and women who risk their lives to save ours? Right, so all this boils down to the fact that I hate the way lifetime TV is portraying a military spouse, because of it, I have decided to take a little break from the fan fic writing and try my best to work on a little book. I want to write what it's like to be a real military spouse. Now, it's not as if this sucker will be a best seller, well mostly because, it can be really boring and lacking in drama, but I wanted to thank you all who have commented and encouraged my writing here. It's given me the courage to go and do some good in the real world. You all rock! PS I will finish posting Trouble in a Skirt, since it's all written and is bein' beta'd so yea, that story will finish, promise!

Employment: How Sweet It Is!
Thursday, 02 August 2007 01:47:01

Well, I'm pretty sure the title gives you a hint as to what this blog may be 'bout... I got a job! After 2 yrs of annoying, boring unemployment I'm stepping back into the working world. I actually stopped working cause of some serious medical probs and then a lil less than a yr ago I had surgery to correct the issues. Ever since then my hubby, Jon, didn't really want me to go back to work. He thought he could support us both, but things are just getting too tight so back to work with me! My sis-in-law actually gave me the inside track on this job, so I'll be working with her. I hope things are ok working with fam., I've worked with friends before and that got a lil, um, uncomfortable. Ok, so the job: I'll be working for Wegmans which is a big chain grocery store in the photo/video dept. I'll also be spending some time helping in the floral dept. which actually sounds interesting. Working in the photo dept. is gonna be just great cause as most of you know I love photography! Now of course I'm sure it's gonna be tough, I've spent a very long time not working. But I think it'll be good for me. It's been hard being home all the time and although I adore talking to my online friends all the time, I really do need some structure in my life. I'll still be 'round so don't think for one sec you'll be getting rid of me, lol! Just gonna be a lil less. The job is part time for now, 3 days a week I think they said. My interview is Mon. and I'm all excited! Wish me luck here people, I've entered a new frontier.

Back to court we go
Thursday, 02 August 2007 23:23:06

Yes ladies and gentlemen, when last we met the divorce decree had been handed down and I had received the house, the kids, and half of the reitrement. Well in order to get the money from the Navy I need special language in the decree, so I have had to file to have the decree clarified. Himself has told his lawyer that he does not WANT the Navy to send it to me, that HE will send it each month for the rest of my life. So its off to court tomorrow. I need a drink. :disappointed: :vomit:

17 Days
Friday, 03 August 2007 02:15:24

17 days. 17 more days of this shit until summer, for me anyways, is officially over. 17 days before I take the final in a class I've been putting off for the longest time and putting in a ton of work just so that I can barely pass. 17 days before I can go home and help out with harvest, make enough money so that not only don't I have to work at all for the remaining school year, but have enough saved up for a nest egg to live off for when I'm done school. 17 days before the purgatory that is Spanish 110 and the hotbox of a house I live in with a roomie I don't like is over. Today was a bit of a busy day for me. I got up at around six and drove to the uni instead of walked so that I can fit in some last minute cramming for a test that was supposed to be yesterday. After busting my ass studying so that I can bring my average past 51, I think I did fairly well on the test. The preterit didn't bother me too much this time around. And I also got my first composition back, and got the first good mark I've gotten in a month. I was really proud of that since it brought my average up to a 52%, which is exactly where I want it to be. I just want to get the credits. I go back home and cleaned the kitchen. We had a potential roomie coming to look at the place, which I was hoping for, since the current roomie we have I really don't like. To make a long story short, the potential roomie didn't even show up because she decided to stay with friends. Well at least the kitchen is spotless for the first time in a month. I studied in basement because the roomie I don't like was still there watching tv, and I have to study once again for another chapter test tomorrow. The stuff I need to know I can memorize, but for some reason, it's not sinking in. I dunno. I just need to vent online before getting back into it. Now that I see the end in sight, I just want to get there. And there's nothing really I can look forward too in these 17 days. Yeah, there are still summer movies I want to see, but not on the same level as KNOCKED UP, LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD, SICKO and RATATOUILLE. Maybe SUPERBAD. But other than that, nothing. Every free moment will be dedicated to a class I have no interest in. But after the 20th, it's going to be so sweet. I can go home to help out with harvest (they're already doing peas and lentils at home. And one of my uncles employee's ended up rolling a fully loaded grain truck.), make some money, and lose some weight. My weeks on the farm are sort of a detox period for me. Matt will be home after 7 months in Afghanistan, but we won't be able to leave for Edmonton just yet. I'm hoping we can fit it in the first week of September, as opposed to the last week of August. My birthday is up in about a month, so I'm hoping I can be with my lady friend Rikky, who I haven't seen since June, and then go out for a night of drinking with my film buddies, who I haven't seen since April. I'm a bit nervous about that, though, since it occurred to me that it's on the Labor Day long weekend, and they might have plans already. And even the ones who are in the city might not come. Dave and Andrew were the ones who sent out the e-vites to the people in the class for when drink night was. I don't know if they'd come if it were me sending them out. Nothing sucks more than inviting people for a night out and no one coming. Any ideas? And then after that, I am in the home stretch in terns of academia. I only have one class per semester, and I already have an idea for what I want to do for my final film. I can shoot in the interviews in a month and spent the rest of the year editing. And I can look into seeing if my pipe dream can come true. Hopefully, I can get work as a trainee grip or electrician on a film set. So fucking close, and yet so goddamn far. 17 days.

But...but....but...your honor!

HEE HEE HEE Thats him, not me. giggle snort *FMF does the happy dance* OK so we get to court and there is the AH. All alone. Wifey not with him, lawyer not there. I take this as significant. Anyhoo, when the lawyer shows up we find that the AH now has the "B" team. The lawyers SON is there. Giggle snort. We are second on the docket and when we are called the AH lawyerson tells the judge that he is asking for dismissal - the reason gentle people? Because the AH does not think I am entitled to the cost of living increases the Navy gives each year. He thinks that my wiping his ass, toting his loads and generally putting up with his shit is worth $495 a month and not a penny more. The judge, BLESS HER REPUBLICAN BUTT, disagreed. (Thats the nicest I get about Repbulicans, but kudos to her) Anyway. I get the wording corrected. I get my cost of living increases. I get my surviver annuity. and he gets? HE GOT SERVED IN THE COURT ROOM BY MY MOTHERS ATTORNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh help me lord jeasous, I have been giggling all morning! *FMF does the happy dance with all the gentle people" We need some liguor up in here! PARTAY!

So, it's probably not a shock to anyone that I'm on a bit of a hiatus - sorry about that. I just moved and have two roommates moving in with me this weekend and next. So aside from having no internet connection at the moment (ugh!), I'm also preparing for their arrival and trying to get everything squared away. Have no fear that "Unforeseen Consequences" is finished and it's 20 chapters. I'm hoping to post chapter 5 no later than next Monday, 8/6 and then keep posting pretty regular after that! I have posted a few BSG stories (Lee/Kara in nature) on FanFiction.net if anyone's interested - same screenname. But I will wrap-up "UC" by the end of the month and possibly post some other shorter stories as well. I have at least four multi-chapter stories stored on my hard drive and probably a handful of one-offs that are completed as well. Well, that's my update - I hope everyone's having a great summer!

Hope I'm Not Forgotten While I'm Gone
Friday, 03 August 2007 21:06:59

Hello to all my shiny friends who I miss so much. Still have no connection from my house but I'm working on it, trust me I am sooooo working on it. I hope to be back among you and posting again soon. I will be at D*C so I'm hoping to meet alot of you there. Here's hoping I get a connection before then though. I am going freaking crazy(er) without it. :banghead: Love, Whim

Friday Night Boredom
Saturday, 04 August 2007 02:14:43

Could it really be so? Me? The kid who never slept unless the sun was out, who consistently managed to drink himself under the table, who told his professor while walking out of the classroom while he was walking in "I'm not going to be in class today" (okay, so it was Hebrew which I managed to flunk twice; maybe anyone would have done that...). The point is, I am in the throes of becoming a fuddy-duddy. It's Friday night and I'm not at the bar, not at a party, not throwing a party, but--get this--sitting at home in complete silent (no music, no TV, just the breathing of slumbering dogs all around me) working logic puzzles. Not even jigsaw or crossword puzzles. Logic puzzles. What have I become? There are so many of you out there who mean a great deal to me and maybe during the next several days I might PM a few of you. Especially those from whom I haven't heard anything in a while. Where are you? How are you? A few of you have had wonderful news and adventures, some of you have had some troubles. We're none of us alone out here in the black. Wave to one another. I am always excited to see those wonderful words: "[FIREFLYFANS.NET] FavoriteBrownCoat has responded to your message!" or "Message from FavoriteBrownCoat of FIREFLYFANS.NET" in the subject line. I ringing down the curtain on one of the worst weeks ever (and I've had a few too many of those in my day) and I'm glad you're out there. Doing logic puzzles on a Friday night might not be such a bad thing after all. It's made me tired enough to stop doing them and stop by here to say Hi. Spending time with you all is maybe the best thing a body can do. Happy Non-Holiday Weekend. Pax

What's that supposed to mean?
Saturday, 04 August 2007 05:37:37

Last night at work I had an idiot customer come through check out and said idiot took it upon himself to verbally chew out one of my kids (one of my cashiers) because we were sold out of a product. Now, I don't take kindly to people taking out their crap on my kids, so I told him where to stick his complaint and offered to help him leave the building. Of course he said he'd come back and talk to the day manager and have me fired. I don't think this worked, as I haven't had any calls today. The point is, if you want to take your crap out on somebody, pick on somebody your own size. I can handle myself, but my kids don't deserve crap from rude people who need to go home and sleep it off. I've had to toss a couple people out myself. But why pick on the poor kids? Being out of a product ain't their fault. They just run a cash register. So if you come into a Sobeys store at night in Kincardine Ontario Canada, please be kind. I aim to misbehave! By the way, as the kids were leaving at the end of their shift, they came and took off my name tag. They replaced it with one that said Jayne (being my crew, they've all been versed in Firefly knowledge). What's that supposed to mean?

Do not read Chuck Palahniuk in one sitting
Sunday, 05 August 2007 16:01:37

Hey All When I was a kid, I read a lot. I still do to this day. I think it's important that in todays day and age where we're all plugged into the Matrix, that we take the time to pick up an actual book and read it. Unfortunately, this is normally not the case for me. With the exception of DEATHLY HALLOWS, I think it's been about a year since I've actually picked up a real book and read it for my own enjoyment. What I do instead is listen to audiobooks. Since I have my iPod on me at all times, I find I get through a lot of books just walking and exercising every day. And I have a ton of books on my docket that I hope to get through once Spanish 110 is over. Right now, I'm halfway through BLOOD MERIDIAN (Cormac McCarthy is my new favorite author), and I have on my docket A CONFEDERACY OF DUNCES, DON QUIXOTE, FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS, IN COLD BLOOD, the entire DARK TOWER series and THE PLOT AGAINST AMERICA. Last week, something reminded me of Chuck Palahniuk, the dude that wrote FIGHT CLUB, which has become sort of a touchstone movie for my generation. No matter how many times Brad Pitt is in the tabloids, I and a generation of guys my age will forever see him as Tyler Durden. So I decided to see which of his audiobooks I can get a hand on. I found SURVIVOR online and HAUNTED at my library. I burned HAUNTED onto my iPod, and I found SURVIVOR on Mininova. When I got SURVIVOR, instead of it being broken up into a number of tracks, the whole thing was just one big 7 hour and 56 minute long track. And I don't think I could have just stopped whenever and then gone back to it like a normal audiobook bought online or a podcast. So to get rid of it, and to avoid my roomate, I went out, walked around and listened to all of SURVIVOR in one go. Holy Jeez!!! I completely forgot how incredibly dark and twisted and clinically insane Chuck is. I started listening, thinking that the whole novel would take place on the plane that the main character hijacked. Turns out, the whole hijacking plane thing is just bookends. It's just this very bizarre and pitch black, as in abyss screaming, novel about this guy who grew up in this fundamentalist cult who's turned into this false religious icon and shit. It's just insane. If this novel were to actually be made into a movie, it would make FIGHT CLUB look like a Disney movie. The best part is when during the Superbowl, after this fake marriage/halftime show, he gives away the final score of the game. I call it the best part because it's the only thing I could latch onto. Everything else is just so insanely dark and twisted and fracked beyond recognition. As I was listening to it, it really got me into a depressed funk that thankfully I snapped out of, but it did make me realize something. First of all, an audiobook this dark and depressing and twisted should never be listened to in one sitting. It messes up your day a bit. Even DEATHLY HALLOWS had moments of levity. And of course, me being the idiot that I am, I actually listened to the first chapter of HAUNTED as I walked to the uni so that I could study for the day. It'll be hard to memorize vocab when I have the image of a 13 year old kid having his intestines being pulled out by a suction pump at the bottom of a pool because he wanted to go pearl diving (you do not want to know what this is, trust me on this). And secondly, it made me realize that while I maybe at the right age to appreciate this kind of literature (I'll be 22 in 4 weeks), I don't think I'm that kind of person to be into this kind of stuff anymore. I imagine as a teenager and being all angry and pissed off at the world that I'd be into this kind of stuff. But I'm not that person anymore. I like to think that I've achieved some sort of internal peace within me and that I am genuinely happy with the way my life is now, that this kind of "screaming from the abyss" type lilterature doesn't really do it for me anymore. Or maybe I've become the kind of normal, boring member of the masses that authors like Palahniuk rail against in th

San Diego Comic Con

Comic con was expensive and exhausting: really worth it, but I'm not sure it is something I'll need to do again.... I did write all about it at my live journal: Wednesday:

Except older, fatter and more ginger. I had had my first lesson today. It went ok. At least I didn't hit any of the following things: 1. the kerb 2. another car 3. a person. I've spent the last hour reading the highway code. Not the most intersting things ever. TTFN Jennifer -x-

I finally got around to setting up a photobucket account, and to celebrate my newfound ability to post pictures, here's a little fond glimpse into my first year at uni (Oh please oh please let this work...)

A few notes on 'A New 'Verse'
Wednesday, 08 August 2007 01:34:08

I hope those of you who have read my fanfic are enjoying it. I know I'm having fun writing it. I just thought I might clear up a few things and give you a bit of insight into my thinking behind the fic. First of all I might tell you that this fast becomes a Mal-centric fic. He is the only BDH who features in chapter three (although Zoe is mentioned) as well as being the central character for most of the rest of the time. I will try and work moment with the others in, but they will be few and far between. Especially Simon at the moment, who I am struggling to find a place for in the fic. Don't worry, my next fic will focus on Simon, Kaylee and River. Zoe to, presents problems for me. I think I have a handle on her, but its hard to tell sometimes. I have a good and relatively original idea for Zoe though. But thats a surprise and you will have to wait. A note about my OC's. Dash is one of my favourite characters I have ever come up with and I hope you will like her. In a lot of ways she is like Mal actually. Jeremiah is also great fun. Watch sparks fly between him and Jayne! The other four; Blake, Siph, Samul and Kosuke are left overs from my earlier fic and I like them a lot. I have a few idea's on how these people will fit in with the crew. P.S I stole the idea of Bounty Slams from The Chronicles of Riddick. To quote Tarantino "Thats all artist's ever do, steal things from other atrists." Anyway thats the end of my random mumblings.

"Girlie Stuff"
Wednesday, 08 August 2007 03:53:55

Hehehe! So, I'm going on a camping trip with a bunch of friends from church tomorrow, and the guy who organized it made a list of things to bring. It has things on it like bathing suit, hiking shoes, bug spray, etc. The last item on the list is, "Girlie Stuff (for the girls, make up and all that junk)". The guy who made the list is friggin' shy about the female functions, which makes this detail all the more amusing! LOL! (Ok, I guess you kinda got to know this guy, but it is funny!)

waiting. i know how to wait. i have learnt how to wait. but it's darker than i'm used to - and cool, the light subdued. i can smell lemon on the air - they must spray it into the air conditioning here. lemon. artifical. not like the heavy incense and herbs of my home - just thinking on them can take me back there. back home. home. im trying hard to find another word for home. but there is ONLY home - and that is not where i am. words. i am holding words right now in my hand - the letters carved into the old wood and clutched knuckle whitening - drawn out of my velvet purse. From the letters She gave me. there is a suit case in front of me - heavy and hard and black metallic. the suitcase He is waiting for. i wonder if there are words in there too... i open my hand. the letters scatter onto the table. a tiny brittle rattling, like bones. She would shake her head - she would tell me (- she would teach me -) that it would be too much noise i'm making now. while i wait. But the letters are cast. i am scared to look. look down. fear comes with a dream it might be true. the wooden bones. the letters. i look upon them. h O p E r i look upon them. and wait. ................................... words on a wing

Where do we go from here?
Thursday, 09 August 2007 16:27:40

This train of thought is long and rambling. More for my sake then yours. I sometimes have to say or read things to work them through my thick head. Be warned. Read at your own peril. I've made friends here. Lots of them. You've seen me happy, crazy, sad, annoyed, and content. This site gave me friends I could talk with, laugh with, yell at, and with whom I could wax poetic. So why does it bother me so to see other folks getting the same chance? It seems like my head broke, the site didn't. It didn't change, but I did. Do we talk about just anything? Wouldn't that sort of break the rules of the site? I mean, new poeple don't want to wander in on us discussing the latest hookups and/or social distortions...at least not in the general threads. Do they? They want their own chance to get Firefly Crazy. I think they should have the right. It seems silly to personalize a fansite when we can get personal outside the fansite. You know? Like at SF or the Whedonesque boards or yahoo groups. But fandom has to be perosnalized to be felt. Am I being insane? Should FFF be for Firefly and related talk only? On one hand I think it should and on the other I don't want it to be clinical. I admit to starting some of it. Yes, the Tree/Clubhouse was one of my haunts. Maybe it's all that Joss/verse worship. It's gotten to me. Sure, I like Joss and his work, but it's not the end all be all. I like the crew, but not everything they touch is gold...SciFi channel anyone? I guess it's perspective. I'm not even sure what my issue with FFF is anymore. Is it the cliques and fanboys or is it the verse itself? What can we do? *adopts SMG OMWF pose* Give me something to post about! Please give me something! *looks down and sighs* I think, after my little rant/pity log here, that I've figured out what it is. I'm mad that we don't talk like we used to talk. That we don't debate the finer points of Inara's possible Bene Geserit training or Kaylee's gift with puzzels. We don't discuss anything anymore, at least not the folks I know. New poeple do...I just miss my old pals and how excited we were. That's all. I'm jealous. Zoid's future quotes kinda brought it all back to me. We had a lot of fun debating those. Good times indeed. So, yeah. Sentimental and jealous. Mad at the lack of source material. And a little hungry.

Wytch's guide (II) - characters...
Thursday, 09 August 2007 23:24:27

Characters – Crew : Mal – after struggling with the complex emotional aftermath of the BDM and his role in those events, Mal is seen to adapt to a new more actively resistant life. He decides Serenity will use Mr Universe’s moon as a base and re-names the place Independence. He still sleeps in Serenity of course. During his experiences in the strange ‘storm’ zone near Seleni we see his dream-life and the complexities therein in regards to the crew (and especially Inara), Atherton Wing, Tracey – and himself. He seems to be undergoing a few subtle changes as time goes on, e.g. going alone to revisit Haven and the man he shot there, allowing the new Shepherd to build a ‘chapel’ in Serenity. No evidence yet that he uses it any but he is less confrontational with the new Shepherd than previously with Book. Recently however, mixing with Saffron turned out to be a more emotional experience than he had predicted. Zoe – after weathering the grief of Wash’s death and Mal’s typically brusque responses to it, Zoe too is seen to return to Serenity life. She has taken to her position as chief Pilot and she gets on well with the new Shepherd, despite the fact that he ‘unsettles’ her… Lockjaw suggests that she comes from a proud family whose members were divided by their loyalties during the Alliance/Independents War. That war may also have claimed her homestead and its rich orchards. Jayne – after initially leaving the crew due to boredom, Jayne is seen to have at least one thriving life away from Serenity – as he visits the rambunctious home of Magdelena on Seleni station. Now though he is back in his old role and much the same. Kaylee – re: Simon: though she may well be sat ‘on the shelf’ in LockJaw she is seen to still be ‘carrying a torch’ in Spiritual. In About Face she finds some fleeting but warm physical satisfaction (i.e. she gets it on) with a member of the Space Circus. Her abilities as mechanic and such – are still vital to the crew (see esp LockJaw & About Face) and appreciated by the Captain. Inara – leaves the Crew again after events on the moon post-BDM, her absence all the more noticeable for the crew’s silence about it. Wash / Shepherd Book – though a definite influence still, they too are rarely openly mentioned. Simon – struggles to understand his relationship, responsibilities and feelings regarding River after Miranda – but carves a role for himself as the new Mr Universe with a definite anti-alliance/resistance agenda. That role causes friction at times however – and is not without personal cost. The fic RNRZ suggests he may’ve been more complicit in River’s fate than previously suggested. River – Still an enigma. On the positive side she now flies Serenity from time to time and has a more independent life than previously. However, she is still very much RIVER and has many issues still to sort out and conditions to adapt to. If she can still be a Weapon, she can also still be a brat. Words On a Wing and Solace both describe events that may affect River emotionally beyond the individual narratives. She effectively mimics Inara and Badger at different points. Shepherd Solomon Face – younger than Book and apparently onboard at the direct behest of ‘the Abbey’. Face is seen to enjoy action and he doesn’t suffer fools gladly. Somewhat shiny at first he is finding that experiencing life with the crew carries a price. He has settled in – even as far as sparring sessions with Zoe and River and converting part of the ship into a chapel of sorts. He loves to cook. He is a little more ‘hellfire’ than Book. We know very little of his past – but I’ll state here and now that he is definitely NOT an Operative. Other Characters MEN: Joshua Xiang aka Joshua X. – Medic and pilot of a firefly now converted into a fixed hospital on the Sanctuary Moon. Mr Universe – friend of Luka’s, helped to fake Simon’s ‘death’ in RNRZ while his own phoney virtual-self nearly killed the crew after the BDM. Now, Simon has taken Mr Universe’s role as the ‘Signal’ man. Gabr

Wytch's guide (III) - Women and children

My sister and her hubs are back from Tokyo!! We're having a pleasant time visiting. Son likes their two dogs very much. They're taking a leisurely trip back to DC, where they'll live for a year before moving to Turkey for three years. Why is there no pout emoticon..? We made pizza tonight. I did one with cauliflower, tomatoes, and curry powder. Not bad! It would have been wonderful with some potato and spinach on it. Son just got back from a baseball game with grandpa. There were fireworks! We're taking him to a karate lesson tomorrow to see how he likes it. I have been proclaimed the dirt diva at his school. I find myself put in charge of getting lots of dirt put into ruts in the lawn at the new space to make it safe for kids to run around on. Any leftover dirt stays in a big pile for the kids to play in!

Part Three: When you are hugged by Malcolm Reynolds you really feel it. These were the times, the clashing of plates, the scrape of cutlery, the banging of cups, the sudden bursts of laughter – the hugging – that Kaylee sometimes hoped would never end. As the captain gently disengaged himself and sat down, Kaylee studied the two new additions to Serenity’s family; the Boy – quiet in his oddly formal suit, muttering in chinese as he reached for all the food he could grab – and the Girl, Ryadni, smiling shyly from under her curls. Her bracelets and rings made no sound, even as she demonstrated something by stretching and rolling her arms. How’d she do that? Kaylee wondered. “Dancing. My lady is teaching me to dance” Simon and Wash hanging on her every word. Kaylee concentrated on eating for a moment then looked up as she heard the girl say - “So I am here. It’s a test. My first time... away from home. With strangers”. There was chorus of sympathetic murmers from around the table. Ryadni gestured to her side. To the boy. Her words sounded well remembered – a lesson learnt perhaps from an early age. “Can I be a fitting companion to him? “’Fitting?” Jayne’s voice was amused. “Now what does that mean” “And provide for his needs – provide distraction – in a pleasing manner.” Jayne leered openly. “Well now, there’s only one distraction all men find pleasing – you old enough for that yet?” He chuckled – then stopped. “Seems to me I minded you about your manners at table once before.” Mal’s voice was quiet. Quiet enough to cut off the sounds from the table completely. ............................. words on a wing

Small worlds and strange happenings.

Well, haven't things been interesting lately. Let's start at the beginning... Semester 2 of Uni has begun. And it is WAY better than semester 1! For starters, I got every single course I wanted. Film? Check. Pop Culture? Check. Ancient History? Check. Creative Writing? Check. Things are never this good. Something is afoot. I'm thinking something evil. And this time, I'm actually learning something! Especially when it comes to film. Last Semester...nothing was learnt (especially Film 101) and it was boring as shite. What I'm doing now is Contemporary World Cinema, and it's frickin' fanstastic. Ancient History...well, I'm doing that course for no other reason than it fit snug in my timetable, but I hold no grudge against it. Even if it does bore me to tears. Pop Culture...sounds like the biggest bludge on the planet. It's really not, which is a good thing. The whole class is pretty much about Australia as a zeitgesit to itself and the outside world, from Lawson's short stories to Mad Max 2. yes, I get to watch Mad Max 2 for homework. To everyone outside Australia, you'll want to be thinking of The Road Warrior. Creative Writing is simply awesome. And somewhat shocking. I actually met a bona fide Browncoat in that class. And by bona fide I mean a member of this very site! TheHeroofWilliamtown is actually a dead set champ. And consequently a waaaaaay better writer when it comes to haiku than I am. And while I'm on the topic of writing, I suppose I should mention that I wrote a fanfic. I say wrote because I'm no longer writing it. It took me a long damn while to finish (and in secret no less. Quite a task to not spill the beans to you folk) and I put the finishing touches on the last chapter about 10 days ago. And here's where that evil afoot thing rears it's ugly head. Something terrible happened. It vanished. Gone. Dissappeared. Pulled a ninja on me. THIS is what happens when Vista decides to be unfriendly. Stupid new laptop. Cost me a fortune and it doesn't even work. My fic, that took me 11 long goddamn months to finish, no longer exists. I have a prologue, chapter 1, and every subsequent chapter is an exact replica of chapter 2. I won't say how many chapters there were, but just know that it was 3 books long. And not short books. The Prologue alone is 11 pages long. And aren't prologues meant to be short? Kinda depressing, because even though I acted as my own beta, I was more harsh on myself than was probably fair, and I was damn proud of what I'd written. I'll admit I had some trouble with a few characters (Inara didn't appear until the 6th chapter of the first book, I was that afraid of writing her), but I loved the whole thing, and I as ready to share. I damn near cried, I tell ya. I'm drowning my sorrows the only way I know how....by co-writing, co-producing and directing (solo directing)a short film. My friend is in charge of music, as it's kinda his thing. And hopefully, we'll be eligible for entry in Tropfest (big short film festival). Should be arduous, mindbending fun. Now all I need is that $2600 camcorder my work just got in stock. Also, some parting advice: If you ever go to an Against Me! gig, and some douchebag kicks your very expensive glasses off your head while you're in the middle of a moshpit....leave them be. Because crawling around on your hand and knees in the middle of said moshpit will get your head and hands stomped on. Repeatedly. Hence the scar above my left eyebrow. Got my glasses back though! Wouldn't have been able to driv home without 'em! So what have we learnt? 1.Karma sucks. 2.Microsoft is evil. No surprises there. 3.When in doubt, write a movie. 4.Browncoats are everywhere. 5.Moshpits give you scars. Something of a rollercoaster ride since my last blog (when was that? January?) then, eh? Stay shiny folks. I know I am.

Dragoncon 2007
Saturday, 11 August 2007 23:19:32

Everything is ready and set for my first visit to Dragoncon. I am so excited to attend finally! I am hoping I will have the guts to be able to even talk to Adam or Ron if they have an autograph session. I am very shy normally, and I hope this won't hinder me from having a good time. So, if anyone reads this and has advice on how to quell my fears, I will happily accept it! One of my favorite authors, Jack Ketchum, is a guest this year. I am pushing his work on everyone I meet. If you don't mind a bit of gore and disturbia, check out The Girl Next Door or Red. Both excellent novels. I am looking forward to meeting lots of Browncoats at the con. So, if you see a short blond girl with glasses and the nickname on her badge is ZombiAsh, feel free to say hi!

Reflections on Writing a Long Fanfic
Sunday, 12 August 2007 11:34:02

Hi, everyone. Thanks to everyone who wrote comments on my fanfics and images. Hope I made you laugh a little. I started out here on this site about a month ago now with my first entry, a long fanfic called "Shadow of Doubt". I had started it out as a two hour movie sequel to Serenity, just my idea of what I think would have happened next. I've been writing screenplays for about ten years now and have had a small success with one, which went straight to video, and hardly anyone saw it. I made a bit of money and I'm still owed some (which I'll never see) but it didn't do anything for my career in screenwriting. So I started out "Shadow of Doubt" with the idea that it would be about 120 pages, which is industry standard two hours, a minute to a page. Well, that idea went out the window when I got to 80 pages and was only at the middle, or just before the middle. I was going to give up but decided to post it here to see what the reaction would be. Well, it was very positive so I slogged on, trying to keep family and work going at the same time. I realize I had three things against me: 1. Time. The first 80 pages took about two months to write with lots of editing and re-writing. I felt some pressure to continue quickly based on the positive fan reaction so I wrote the next 30 pages in two weeks and when I fit them together, I felt it wasn't quite right and wanted to change some things, which I will do later after I finish the whole thing. 2. Plot. I have a basic plot outlined but as I am writing I'm finding myself going down little alleys and side streets to explore other things related to the story, so I kind of get away from the main idea a bit. 3. Lenght. This thing is turing into a monster and may be enough for two or three movies by the time I finish, sometime before Chirstmas I hope. So its going to take more time and effort, which I will do, just for my personal satisfaction. So that being said, here's my advice for those wanting to write a long fanfic. 1. Plot out the whole thing, scene by scene, before you begin. You will have to change some things as you go, but the basic skeleton will be there. 2. Write the whole thing first, and then put it on this site, all at once, or in little chunks, with appropriate cliffhanger marks to keep the audience wanting more. 3. Don't start unless you can finish. Nothing worse than the tease of an idea we never get to see finished. Hmmm that kinda sounds like a little show called..Firefly! There you have it. I'm no expert but that's my advice for anyone who wants to write a long fanfic. I'm sure lots of others who have written them here have some good advice, too. By the way, if you have ideas to be a screenwriter, make sure you have a good regular job, too. Screenwriters are a dime a dozen and Hollywood gets about 40,000 screenplays a year to make about 350 movies. You have a better chance getting a book published before a screenplay you wrote hits the movie theaters. Long Live the Browncoats!

Here in the hot house hallways of our academy we grow fast – our bodies and mind bloom quickly, a strange and wonderful blossoming we are encouraged to explore. My sisters, their delicate fingers reach for me. I dance between them. Here among my sisters. I am still alone. I am searching for Her. Wash’s voice, hollowed by the intercom, came out suddenly across the ship. “Um.” It said. “Not to add scary to the, uh, scary – but we got incoming.” The ship rang with the sound of running crew. “Two ships on intercept!” ------------------------- words on a wing

Serenity RPG- Good Will and Big DAMN Heros pt3
Monday, 13 August 2007 02:11:06

So there we were in outer space, moving away from the community that Doc had become a complete hero in, curing little children, vitamin deficiencies and such, and flying right past us was gorram reaver skiff, heading for all Doc's hard earned good will. Now most of hang out in the ship's lounge or the cargo bay when we're not on the job. If the proximity alert goes off, it's not always natural for us to go running for the bridge, we usually just wait around for the captain to give us details over the com. Captain has some difficulty on this call though, she knows we've all seen the results of a reaver's raid close up, and Jeb, our resident browncoat and cook has survived one. But she also knows all those people aren't in any shape to defend themselves or get away. She calls Jeb up to bridge and he makes about the bravest call I'd guess a man with his experience could make. Captain gets back on the com and let's us know we're going back to take on the reavers. I see it as trying to protect Doc's investment and that makes sense to me. Everyone gets the ammo and mule ready. Our pilot, Repo, takes our ship in low right down through the mainstreet of town and he can see the reaver rig already hovering and dropping it's inhabitants like spiders spewing from an egg sac. Being the awesome pilot he is he pours on the gas, and use the under side of Siracco to catche the skiff broadside, sending it and whoever was left on board flying fore over aft to crash at the end of town. Repo then drags our ass end around in a one eighty, flying low and landing us hard at the other end of town. The mule is ready to go and Goose and Chase, Rez and Captian are armed to the teeth and ready to go as Jeb and Doc take positions with rifles at the main air lock ramp. Jeb hits the button to open the ramp...and it sticks!! The gorram piece of feh wu got damaged when it rammed the skiff and will now only open 45%. Rez makes an extraordinary success on his roll and slides us out at full speed. We go zipping right down through the middle of town and one of the first thing we see are a couple of reavers running in from climbing off the wreckage of their ship, AND THEY'RE COMING RIGHT FOR US!! So Rez rolls to bowl them over. He manages to cut one through, but the other made his Agility roll and hops on board. Chase and Goose start firing like crazy, but the Reaver doesn't fall off dead until he gets in a hit at Goose, that makes all her next rolls a -2 step penalty for pain. But we reach the end of the street reaver free and turn to make another pass, shooting at reavers in action on the sides. Meantime, Doc and Jeb are taking shots at Reavers attacking citizens rightout side the ship, they have to shoot off the edge of the ramp as it doesn't go down all the way. Doc sees some young man bleeding to death from a reaver axe decides to climb out over the door to help, Jeb backs him up with some awesome cover fire, taking out a couple of Reavers with head shots. Through out all this Silas is in one of the shuttles trying to make it fly away, but he has no knowledge in flying shuttles so he ends up just sitting in the shuttle praying we don't get overrun by reavers. There's actually a lot more to this battle that I've forgotten since I took so long to post, but suffice it to say we were victorious, though bloody and wounded, in taking out all the reavers that attacked us. The town hailed the crew of the Good Ship Sirocco as their heros and told us they would help us anytime we needed it. I was worried about leaving the reaver ship there in town, being all radioactive an such, but our gamemaster assured me it wouldn't affect them...much.

Don't worry- I'm back!

So if anyone cares, that's where Leonidas (who uses my computer since he doesn't have one) and I have been. Will update Crow: Serenity tommorow hopefully, I've got exams coming up so that might interfere. Cheers! blackbeanie

on dresses
Monday, 13 August 2007 17:39:45

“Never forget...”, i was taught. “A dress can be a weapon. It distracts the eye. It confuses the mind. Why that dress? Some will ask. Others will reach for easy answers... The truth will be that wearing the dress controls those questions and answers. People think a dress makes you weak – but it can make you strong. It will encourage others to protect you. It will cause many of the determined to falter – their eyes, their gaze upon you will become fragile. They will be the vulnerable ones then. They will look to you for the answers. For directions. This is control. And it is yours. A dress keeps you free to move and to act. It can be a second skin. When you wear a dress it is called ‘becoming’ – people will say you look becoming... the dress becomes you... and I say that you must become the dress.” The dress. I look down at my own and wonder at it. When I wear the dress do i become it? A dress is a weapon. I must become the dress. I must become the weapon. ............................................. - words on a wing -

I'm Baaaack
Monday, 13 August 2007 21:45:51

Yeah, I've been AWOL for a few months. School ate my soul for a while there. I'm back now, though, and will soon hopefully be writing again if I can ever convince my creativity to come back. Major writer's block where Firefly is concerned at the moment. Original fiction is going well, though! I won't be continuing on with Cruel Summer for a while, just because I need to regroup and think of some new ideas, since I've lost the notebook with all my old ideas in it. If there's anything you'd like to see, send me a message and I'll try to incorporate it, or at least consider incorporating it. Anyway, back now, so I'll be seeing you all around the site! Love, Jules.

Yes, Browncoats...my stepdaughter's son has arrived! Please welcome Jordan James into the world, who currently resides with his happy mom & dad in Southern Florida. I will post pictures as soon as I receive them. I'm a grandmother! At age 39! *sigh* *snip*

I'm Starting To Get It
Tuesday, 14 August 2007 20:54:29

Just in case you haven't noticed the older members of this site leaving in droves, I'd just like to say that I get it. I understand why people are leaving because I'm on the verge of it myself. This is/was supposed to be a fun site. This is for entertainment purposes only! There's no need to correct and fight and scratch at each other. Trust me, I'm trying hard to avoid it myself. 3+ years I've been on this site, and today, for the first time, I've seen things that make me want to literally smash my computer just so I never have to see them again. A break...that's what I need. A little break. See ya.

But anyway I want to kill of another character. i thought it through for a while and I thought the character Joss was most likely to kill of next would be Simon. So wait for Simon to die in one of my fics. Nobody ever kills the BDH's. Well not much. I think I will.

Well, here I am. I avoided Firefly for a long time, probably because I thought 'Buffy' was such drivel. Anyway, one day I was sitting in a hotel room with not a lot to do, and looking at a website that lists TV shows that have been posted on video hosting sites, and I thought "Let's have a look." I am a builder for a science fiction MUD, and a few people had been saying that we should have a Firefly-themed area or ship in the game. I watched 'The Train Job'... then I watched 'Bushwhacked' and 'Safe'... and I had to admit that I was hooked. Despite learning of the series' early demise, I ordered the DVD boxed set from Amazon, together with 'Serenity'. When they arrived, I went through everything in sequence, although having seen some episodes already. (I've watched most of them at least twice now.) I felt a growing sense of sadness as I approached the end of the series, but at least I had the film to look forward to. It didn't disappoint, although it distinctly draws a line under the show. Anyway, I want you to know that pirated video content was what got me hooked. It isn't depriving anybody of their rightful revenue, because it triggered my purchases. Without the ripped off episodes on the Internet, I'd never have got here.

Out of Gas

Out of Gas... Out of gas, out of luck and now rapidly running out of life – the captain crashed to the floor with a ringing metallic shudder, knees buckling. Falling forwards, there was the sharp metallic slap of iron against flesh. You get slapped when you are born. Sometimes, thought the captain, as consciousness began to fade, sometimes you get slapped when you die. - look for SOLACE

OK guys what is going on? Why are so many feeling the need to leave? I love you all and I'm not sure why we're scratching at each other, but I do knwo nothing can be fixed by people leaving. If you have a problem, say something. If it doesn't stop, avoid that person or ignore. Just because someone posts doesn't mean you have to read or care. So what if someone else says something you think is offensive, stupid, cruel, inapropriate, or just plain mean...come on Serenity would be empty a hundred times over if someone left every time Jayne said something awful...they just chalk it up to Jayne being Jayne. They don't agree with it and sometimes it makes them sick, mad, or frustrated that he thinks that way, but they don't leave...mostly they just ignore him ( and mock him in their thoughts and shared glances) So come on everyone...you don't have to like what someone says, just respect their right to say it...and invoke the Thumper rule...If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all...or at the very least don't run away from people you care about because of one you don't. And that was as close to a sermon as I've ever gotten. I just hate to see tons of people leaving instead of dealing with it.

The Legend Of Badger - Nance
Thursday, 16 August 2007 08:25:34

The Legend of Badger – Nance: Closing his eyes, Badger allowed himself a moment to listen his mind to the soothing words of a favourite song – music to soothe the savage breast or wotever… Maybe it’s coz I’m from Londinium – that I love… He opened his eyes and regarded the object in his hand, placed it slowly on his desk and spoke – in a slow, measured – professional voice. “It’s not a weapon you twonk – it’s a game”. Badger smiled with his mouth – beady eyes blearing around the office – strewn with the troves and hoardings of… how many years now? The shiny and the glittering and the worth some gorram coin. If you ignored the flickering power to the lights – the fact that the Blue Station Vii was always off and the toilets didn’t work. There was however an apple – fat, green and daily – sat on the desk. Priceless. An apple a day keeps the doctor away – and the punters in their place. Right. “Where was I?” “It’s a game.” “Oh, yeah right – DARTS mate, sport of the ancients – back from the Earth-that-Was. Back when it was Publicans versus The Bill – or… – don’t you know yer ‘istory? And – Oy! Am I boring you?” “Sorry Mr B – It’s just – if I could sit down.” Badger sighed, pacing on his restless bowlegs. “Awright awright – somebody get this bloke a chair!” It is always very satisfying watching underlings do the… undering. He looked hard at the solid form of the seated man. A little nervous looking – but a bit of the mean in there too. Dancin’ round the corners of the eyes. Interesting… “Feelin’ better? Spiffin’. I like my crew to keep happy.” There was a none-too subtle tittering from the open alcoves adjoining the office. “Knock it off! – You see? We like our… fun. Mister…?” “Square, Albert Square.” “Well Mr Square – I gather you’re lookin’ fer work on account of the unfortunate demise of your guv’ner one… Rennway Stenner - nasty piece of work – or so I hear. Alliance. Can’t say as I take too kindly to Alliance.” The man in the chair looked up. “You’d like ‘em a lot more if fings had gorn right an’ Reynolds was dead.” Badger bounced the distance between the desk and the chair in two swift movements. “Reynolds? Did you say… Reynolds?” “Yeah, thas right. Malcolm Reynolds – bleedin’ Browncoat ponce if ever I saw one.” “Well, well – I’ve met the bloke – kept ‘im his place too – yeh, he’s up ‘imself is that one.” “Too right.” Badger pulled his hat from his head – a worn bowler – and his most prized possession. “You see this hat – my most and very FAVOURITE hat? Bastard shot me through this hat once – took weeks to get it repaired. Still…” He tapped the top – and there was the dull noise of steel under the fabric. “It fixed up a treat.” He popped it back on his head. “Any’ow – what brings you to me – Mr Square – that is – why ME exactly.” “I ‘eard you was on the up n up.” “Straight up.” The two men shared a common chuckle. “Well – you ‘eard right – ‘specially compared to some geezers like Fanty and Mingo whose names I won’t even bovver mentioning.” He spat. “Slick – they think themselves – so very bleedin’ slick. Any’ow – It says ‘ere…” - a rustle of paper – real paper, mind, - “that you have proved to be a stone cold killer. Vicious. That true?” Albert nodded enthusiastically – the plied wave of his grey hair, bobbing. “Oh not ‘alf.” Badger nodded. “Hmm… you got anyone in your sights now? Anyfing you oughta be telling me?” “Jus’ Reynolds – Mr B. I see ‘im – and pop goes THAT weasel. Har har! Techinical: Leaving Earth-that-Was
Thursday, 16 August 2007 09:27:32

"Earth could no longer sustain our numbers, we were so many." Interesting idea for science fiction, of course... and nothing new. The idea of shipping out to other places for this reason has been in sceince fiction stories for half a century. But let's look (briefly) at what's involved. First of all, you're going to need to find a suitable destination. Let's ignore the obvious difficulties, like it being only five hundred years in the future, yet humanity has had time to fly probes to a number of other solar systems, get back data, and persuade people to ship out. Since there's no FTL travel in the 'verse (as far as we know) it's going to take quite a while to get even a probe to even our nearest neighbour. Still, let's overlook that for the sake of the story. We found a new solar system, and it was so good, in terms of suitable lebensraum, that a significant chunk of humanity could be persuaded to give it a shot. We know there is 'cryo' storage of people, and we might assume that colonists could be transported for tens of decades in this way. Maybe we even stopped counting the passage of time while everybody was in 'cryo', which makes the 500 years in the future thing seem a bit more plausible. Let's overlook the diagram that the schoolteacher shows in 'Serenity'. Planetary orbital mechanics don't allow for a large number of Earthlike masses to circle a single sun. Let's assume that it's possible to monkey with terraforming, to shift material about, or make it denser, or less dense, so gravities match. We're violating physics here (mass/energy conservation) but it's for the sake of a good story, so okay. Let's further assume that it's possible to put gases in the 'atmo' of a planet during terraforming, such that even a distant planet can have enough of a greenhouse effect to remain warm. In fact, let's use the same process to explain why the inner planets are green and lush, while the outer ones are sun-baked deserts. Odd, but okay. So we have this terraformed system, which is achieved in decades rather than the millennia that one might expect. Maybe... with some von Neumann machines, or something similar. (Probably not the large machine seen in 'Serenity'.) Now... on a world that can't sustain its massive population, how do you build all these goodies? That technologies such as 'gravity drive' might be developed in a laboratory, I can believe. Scientists are doing amazing things right now, such as creating antimatter, and demonstrating quantum entanglement (a possible means of FTL communications, such as that demonstrated by the Coretex). So you have your new technologies... but how do you put them into production on a big enough scale, on a resource-starved world. Surely, the first country (or bloc) with these new technologies will use them to seize the present-day resources available. If your aircraft can fly into orbit, etc., you'll win any war you start... so it's possible that things got pretty damn nasty on Earth-that-was for a while. Technologies such as miniaturised reactors and new materials could have been used to provide better living accommodation on Earth. Failing that, they could have been used to create orbital habitats. (Room for about a hundred times the present-day population of Earth, up there.) Then, if you're developing terraforming technologies, where would you try them out first? Mars. And some moons, including those of Jupiter and Saturn. This overlooks the fact that constructing a spacecraft has huge cost (let's assume you get them cheaper in 'Henry Ford' volume production), produces a great deal of pollution, and requires a massive amount of energy. If heavy industry of the future doesn't have these side effects, there would be much less reason to leave Earth-that-Was. In our own solar system, we have vast quantities of materials. Everything you could possibly need to sustain life, including metals, water, oxygen, sunlight... Many in a remote place, or in an awkward form (oxygen in oxides, for example) but they could be accessed and released in our own syste

Firefly: Omnipresence
Thursday, 16 August 2007 11:13:03

That's a working title, some of you may have seen my image in the blue sun room of a Mal Reynold's video game sprite, well I'm working on a game, a point and click adventure in the vein of Monkey Island, I'm not going to promise this will get made, the road to creating an adventure game is long and tedious process, and I'm not sure I'm up for, but keeping looking for updates on my game Firefly: Omnipresence, it will be placed in a time period before the BDM, and Those Left Behind, but after the final episode of the series.

River Dance
Thursday, 16 August 2007 14:59:32

(see firefly episode 'safe') She was the dark child dancing into light, She was the dancing River. The sun touched her through the clouds. The trees bent and swayed in imitation of her. Dancing. She drew a crowd. They watched her dancing. Colour leaping from her. She danced with them – reaching her free hands and bare feet for the feel of the ground and the delight of the ribbons ... weaving... ribbons around the maypole. She was the thing the people moved toward. Moved through, away from – and beyond. Everybody danced with River. She could see the smiles, hear the laughter, song and music. She knew the secret name of their velocities. She could call the angles and the ratios. All language was hers. It flowed within her. Calling out in a thousand different voices. Too much for any one tongue to tell. So she was silent. Dancing. Watching. Weaving through the ribbons and reeling between bodies near collision, objects in space weaving and reeling– but for a moment – smiling Safe Upon the River.

WASHed up...
Thursday, 16 August 2007 15:00:48

“Hi, i’m dead. Did i get your attention there? Yep. Dead. R.I.P. (say it with me people) My life is null and nada – i am deceased – a stiff – i’ve kicked the bucket. I’m pushing up the daisys. I am a dead parrot. Sorry –Pilot. Sorry. Cut off in my prime. Canceled like your favourite show - that someone always said would be too good to last. But my gosh – when they put you in the ground they really – well, they just – they really put you in the ground don’t they. I always prefered the stars myself. Will you look at ‘em down there? No, not the stars – well they are stars but not the glowy pointy kind you look at with your loved one, not the ones that glitter as you lie together on a far flung hill side, in the after-glow of the big juicy bone jumping joy and – ok ok so wandering now but – hey! – have you SEEN my wife? You got any idea what i’m missing right now buddy!? And there aint no love-bots or batterys up here, i can tell ya. Just the misty longing and the – what? You got a problem?? Hello!- dead! Let’s get back to the part where i’m DEAD. I’m dead and they’re crying??? Like i said they ARE stars. Some of ‘em even know it. Look at ‘em – i mean, hey - they got the hologram grave marker going on for starters, my pretty face all brave and understanding... for them – something they can look on ‘stead of staring at the ground. Did i mention that’s where i am? Look at their faces – sure they look sad now – but you shoulda seen ‘em in the shiny times – well the less rusty, well the – when i was ALIVE, ok. Those faces could make me do anything. Those faces made me feel like i mattered for the real and true first time. And yeh, those faces got me killed. Everyone has their favourite – i guess – we all pick someone to love, someone to hate, someone to trust, someone to just – well – ok – i don’t know what Jayne was for, but when someone has the courtesy to come to your dirt display – well, that’s worth a kudos or three. I bet the people they hook up with next’ll – oh yeah – they’ll be wondering – what are these people now – why are they together??... And which ones of that posse ARE together??? (and who’s still in the back with the bot and the batterys. Once again.) Does it matter? Not to me. I always thought it was the group of us, really, you know? It was the bunch of us that belonged together. I hope it stays that way. Somehow. And i’m thinking now – maybe i got the better end of the deal here – coz all they got to take away from where they are now is memories (i’m one of em). That’s all they got to go with. To take away. Me? – i got my whole life to take with me where i’m going. Going. Going. Gone. Yeah... times up – time to get jiggy with the black – time to – i dunno, what – do i maybe get to be an angel, are there angels? I could have some fun maybe, wings, a little bow and arrow? Maybe i’ll ascend somehow to a new kind of existence – my widescreen afterlife - hell, maybe i’ll become a higher power? Just kidding. Ok, this is me leaving now. Sue me – if i didn’t make with the great profoundness enough for you. Jeez some people! But listen just – just look after the one’s down there for me, will ya? they need it. OK, ok, i’m really going now, making with the vanish, fading – you could say that i’m all WASHed up.” ................................................ about face:

A Fun Thursday in Durham
Thursday, 16 August 2007 16:59:36

Hi there, I had fun today. I went to Durham with my friend James, from Uni (well I say from uni; I didn't start hanging out with him until after we left). We went up to the Cathedral and I gave him a guided tour (I was surprised I remembered so much actually). We saw my dad, who James thinks is cool. He was pointing out stuff about the architecture and complaining aboutt he useless vergers who damage the choir stalls he just built. James was also very amused at the door that is the same height as me. Andrew has already named it the Jennifer sized door. Afterwards we walked along the riverside and then went to the pub. It's amazing that most of my stories about days out end up with a trip to the pub. My brother and our friend Karl were out yesterday and apparently they got really drunk. Andrew had to help John home. Anyway, John and Karl have gone to Bloodstock for the weekend. I have no idea where it's held; somewhere in the Midlands I think. TTFN Jennifer -x-

Sheriff Characters und stuff
Friday, 17 August 2007 08:50:43

Well, someone asked, so, here you go, John Wyall, aka, Duke: Captain, not exactly the best person to know, has a temper and is a very jealous person, but will defend his friends with everything in him. hes 30 years old, in the story, i accidentally said he was six two years older than gil, the number is Six. Duke is ex-alliance so he has alot of contacts high up Gilbert Rowlings, aka, Gil: Logistics, or, storage and stuff, he is a very annoying person, thinks he's the boss of everyone and is constantly on Dukes nerves. Gil isn't smart, but he's no dummy either, a sneek really, but when push comes to shove... He bails, he's only on the ship cause he is good at organising things Miki Kenly, aka, Kenly: The pilot, he has no actual qualifications, but he grew up watching his dad fly commercial craft and tried his hand at it during the war. Kenly is clever, but he does really stupid things, like, when someone says look out, and duck, he stands up and looks for what is about to hit him. Kenly is very nice, but has alot of secrets he keeps buried. Danial Suffolk the Third, aka, Trip: Very smart, grew up in boarding school, a highly trained mechanical engineer, who just happens to have a bit of a problem with gambling, so, his name is basically rubbish in most places, but he is still one of the highest trained Mechanical engineers in the verse, (after Kaylee of course). Trip is actually blind in one eye, so the rest of his body made up for it by being highly sensitive, so, he can feel slight changes in ship speed and course. Gremlin: Our mystery girl, no history, no real name and she speaks some wierd language, what else could she be, other than the offspring of two reavers!!! she is a pretty central character, so, keep an eye on her btw, i didnt put the BDH's in cause i thought that maybe a little independance was due, i mean, if people really want, i'll drop in a cameo or something, but totherwise, i like a little creative freedom with new characters, so, yeah. Can't stop the signal!!

Nathan gets all soapy!
Friday, 17 August 2007 19:00:41

Yeah, I’m talking about Nathan on "One Life to Live" and not Nathan in my bathtub. (But hey, a girl can fantasize!) Yesterday Nathan’s character, Joey, came back to OLTL-land from (I believe they said) London with his brother (I didn’t catch that guy’s name). He met freaky-older-woman-and-ex-lover Dorian and all of these feelings of lust came rolling back! For those of you who (like me) really don’t watch OLTL (or any soaps at all!), watch this hi-larious clip (

Writers block loses ground
Friday, 17 August 2007 20:30:42

I was able to gain some ground against my mortal enemy, the evil writer's block. But not much. I was able to write part two of first job, but I don't know if I'm entirely happy with it. Normally when I write I finish whatever it is I am writting and let it sit for a few days then I go back over it. I did this with First Job: Part two but it still lacks something....I think it moves too fast and after waiting a few days, re-reading it and refining it I am still not staisfied with it. Oh well. Hope you guys like it anyway.

Serenity RPG-Goose and the gorRAM sheep
Saturday, 18 August 2007 12:35:14

We're still discussing the heist of the El Dorado, but in the meantime another of Silas's wiseass contacts, a little man with a BIG ego, tells us he needs a load of livestock picked up. We were worried about another cattle run, but we find out its sheep, bound for St. Albans and Goose says this is good because sheep have smallish droppings. Goose doesn't know sheep apparently. We get 130 of the wooly buggers loaded without much incident. A point is made that the sheep with the horns is acting all uppity and getting the rest of the herd stirred up, which doesn't real good, a sheep stampede, maybe not as bad as cattle, but we're worried. So captain has our mech fashion a pen, thinking to keep the ram seperated from the herd. But nobody's too keen on getting that guy in the pen, so Goose volunteers thinking to get some brute strength working, grab that guy up and dump him over the fence. I have to roll to get him and he's all waving his horns at Goose, trying to make himself big, and tough. My first roll is actually a dodge, 'cause he charges her, but on his second pass she makes the grab and now has him around his legs, lifing him up. It's my plan to get him spun around, get his hind legs up in a wheelbarrow and either push or drag him toward the pen. My gamemaster asks if I do anything else, but I can't seem to explain what I'm doing well enough because I'm told that the gorram sheep headbutts Goose since she's not in dodge mode. Of course she drops the sheep and falls, stunned, to the floor. Been living out in the black for 'bout 6 months, have killed men and reavers, beaten guys to unrecognizabilty with a bar stool and my bare hands, and wind up getting stunned by a piece of gosah sheep. Jeb, our first officer has watched the whole thing (in fact the whole crew has watched this) and comes down to get Goose outta there before the ram gets any other ideas. He goes to take Goose by her arm and lead her up to the catwalk. Goose is thinking hard as the world comes back into focus, remembering how the ram was stirring up all the other sheep, making a ton of noise and acting all dominant, thinking he's better than folks trying to get him out of harms way and some angry force in her head just snaps. She yanks out of Jebs grip and launches herself at the sheep, tumbling him off his bitty hooves in a flying tackle. Even though he's kicking like mad she manages to get all his legs wound up like he's hog tied and then starts wailing on his jaw with her free fist, til his big ol' sheepy head explodes like a melon. Then she yells, "JEB, WE'RE HAVING MUTTON FOR DINNER!!!!" There was some more of the game after we got to St. Albans, Doc offered more free care, B(our mechanic) built a part to get the miner's equipment working again, but me and my hubby had to leave early, so if more exciting stuff happened afterwards, I guess I wouldn't know about it unless someone emails me.

No/one in a condemned cell really expects to see a friendly face. The one facing Captain Reynolds seemed – amused, at least.... warm toned and looking at them with deep charismatic eyes. Coupled with the hair, drawn back in a loose locked bun and the small wooden earing, the Shepherd looked almost piratical. “You boys ready to meeet your Maker?” Mal gestured theatrically – difficult given the heavy iron cuffs about his wrists, chaining him to the wall of the cell. “Meet? Maker? Just the one? Are sure Preacher? See, I remember my mother – and, yep, I’d be lying to you now if I said she wasn’t many things... but claiming this man”- he nodded at the bullish form of Jayne “here for her own?” He smiled. “ Well, I can’t say as how I recall that being one of ‘em. Maker? Seems to me that would kinda be making us brothers.” The Shepherd looked undisturbed. His rich voice carried no irritation. “Do you always hide your fear this way Captain? You will not make me angry.” Mal started. “How interesting – the last man who said that me was a butcher of Shepherds.” “And that, Captain, is partly why I am here.” There was a sudden hard nudging in his back – and Mal twisted awkwardly to look at Jayne. The big man loooked perplexed. “Hey, Mal – we aint brothers.” Mal laughed. “Ooh Wee! Guess who turned up to the party just as the guests are leaving!” Jayne smiled.”We leaving?” Mal nodded towards the Shepherd.“I do believe that’s a matter for this preacher to decide.” There was a pause then, as if things of moment were being weighed up. Then the Shepherd smiled at Jayne. “It must be difficult having such a brother.” Jayne was on his feet red faced “We – AINT BROTHERS!” He lunged with a roar, muscles and tendons straining as both Mal and the Shepherd tried to slide away. There was an almighty wrenching crack! and the chains holding him broke, falling to the dusty cell floor. “There now” said the Shepherd smiling broadly. “That wasn’t so hard was it?” ................................... - about face:

Fox Sux
Monday, 20 August 2007 02:18:44

:finger: I hate fox. I dont know who is incharge there but as the Trump would say "Your Fired"...but to wish. Family Guy has run for how long on Fox( which i actually like somewhat so dont get me wrong) but FireFly was a jewel. Something that had a story that was real, and characters that were real. All that it would have taken was to play the episodes the way that Joss wanted them to be played. I have since boycotted Fox, the only way I will watch anything like Family Guy is reruns on another channel.

No “Inheritance, Part 2”… for now!
Monday, 20 August 2007 03:08:06

Well, I’ve thought about it, and it is not in the stars for me to finish “Inheritance, Part 2” at this time. Despite quitting my job, I’ve been busy with other stuff, and I can’t seem to get this writer’s block out of my head concerning that story. So, I’m shelving it for now. I’ll continue writing some fics, but they’re going to be one shots or 2-3 chapter series. Nothing too long, ‘cause I’m starting a new semester at my university on Wednesday, and I can’t get too distracted. You guys are good people, and I think you’ll understand! Stay shiny!

Quicksilver
Monday, 20 August 2007 12:39:10

Quicksilver: “Well aint that something”. The voice crackles static and the screen flickers with tiny phosphene fires. And the man who is listening sighs. “Just-” he says. “Just avoid this quadrant – the belt’s unstable – your scans won’t be able to predict the asteroids or the flares.” “Oh i surely will. Just don’t be expecting a thankyou is all.” “Acknowledged.” A second sigh. A rubbing of the eyes. A clicking of switches. The familiar music of forward watch room five. That and the momentary silence. Broken – the already buckled door hurled open. The Ox stands there steaming and grinning. “Heads up Quicksilver, we’re wanted men.” Quicksilver turns. “Yes. Of course we are.” ..... The Boys in blue and their Boss were deeply pissed off. They stood staring at the soiled crew of three before them as if the men were interlopers. A drunken mob disturbing a particularly placid game of golf. The Boss shook out the arms of his jacket. “This everyone? Ok then. It has come to our attention that we may have a problem here. This outpost – outpost...?” “311818183.AO7.Gamma Nine. Sir.” A helpful aide. “Thank you Lt. Yes – this tin hole here is supposed to listen – it is a LISTENING post. It is not supposed to TALK.” The meeting room, already cramped, seemed to shrink wrap around the men inside it. It was uncomfortably hot. The music here was hull and bulkhead, metal insulation, mis-firing food dispensors. “Well?” Captain Ullman managed a shrug – a gesture made easier by his over large work shirt. “Did you want me to reply?” He looked sincerely surprised. The Boss however was clearly having trouble controlling himself. “No.” He grated. “I wanted an apology – i wanted “I’m sorry Sir, we understand Sir – we know the importance of your operation and our own gnat like insignificance. We know you are the Boss. We know we are shit.”.” The Captain raised a hand – the Ox was beginnig to breathe hard and there was little enough oxygen as it was. But the Boss hadn’t finished. “Your LISTENING post has started warning people way from the area – let me rephrase that – you’ve been telling people you’re here! And when i say ‘people’ i don’t mean the good and obedient citizens we represent – oh no – i mean flotsam, jettsam, scum, fluff and refugees who are entirely supposed to end up with a face full of hot rock!” He pressed a hard gloved finger into the recording device that Blue Boy no.2 was holding. A tone was emitted – then a voice, a worn voice, a woman’s, rising above the din of her craft and her children. “Bless you Beacon. We’re turning away, following your new co/ordinates, guess me an’ my kin aint found a way through this quad’ yet (hush now!) – but we’ll keep tryin’ – thanks to you. Thank -” The hard gloved finger had stabbed again. Captain Ullman’s eyes were small. “Am i supposed to let them die?” “You are supposed to do your job. Listen to the scum – but talk to our boys. Our boys who have to make it through this hell space too. Our boys who do so because they also have a job to do.” The Captain shook his head. “If it’s a reprimant Sir – you could have saved yourself the trip and told me over the radio.” Here the Boss actually laughed. But it was not a good sound. Teeth snipping at his lips. “Radio?! Oh yes – because you keep such a tight station here that you can’t even get the visual channels working! Well...” The teeth burst out in a smile. “That’s OK Captain. I think it only right that i should say this to your face.” The gun, the shot and the death seemed to rip out of nowhere in an instant of corbite and screams. “You’re fired” said the Boss. And now the Ox roared, flaring his nostrils, head low, fists raised. The Boys in blue took him down efficiently with an electroprod and net. “You see?” The Boss turned to Quicksliver, the only crew member left. “I can smell insurrectionists.” The boys dragged out the smoking body of the Ox. The corpse of the captain was next. Quicksilver said nothing. The Boys left. ..... “They’re good boys. A good crew. Loyal.” The Boss seemed hap

still chugging away
Monday, 20 August 2007 21:06:19

I just finished dipping things in chocolate today. Peanut butter filled pretzel nuggets and espresso beans! Everything I'm bringing to the Con is wearing a brown coat. Kidlet helped, and he had a blast! I made tomato soup from scratch and got a thumbs up for my efforts. It's a cold rainy day here. Feels like Fall blew in two days ago without preamble. I just found out my rank insignia for the parade are both incorrect and technically not high enough. Sigh and try again. Maybe I can exchange them.. I'm trying to sew shades and drapes for the living room. I think it will work. Just turned several things pink in the wash inadvertently, it has been quite some time since I did that. I decided that the offending dye donor was never going to stop bleeding onto other things (after being obtained second hand over ten years ago) and was worn and scruffy enough to go into the bin. I'll just have to make a quilt or convince hubby to knit another throw to replace it. Darn. Heard from the real estate agent yesterday, things are looking up, after they were looking down but nobody wanted to panic me so we were not advised until the dust settled. The kerfuffle and staring contest is now over, our lawyer won. (God I love that woman!) We're getting the windows repaired, except the real estate agents are covering the cost of about $200, which was quite a pleasant surprise. They're going ahead and ordering the septic dye test and well quality test, once those are acceptable we are good to close! This is the part where we start crossing our fingers, knocking on wood, and holding our breath 'lest some unforseen strangeness of freak bad luck occur. The well has always been just fine, and the septic system has never given us a problem. That's why I'm worried. Took the day off sick today as I could not send the boy child to the child care center (you really do not want to know), and it was a wonderful thing. An unscheduled day without a clear plan to putter around in is quite refreshing sometimes.

Slinkified Absence
Tuesday, 21 August 2007 02:09:29

It's nice to be missed... A lot of you shiny folk have commented on my absence of late: deepest and most sincere apologies here. I trust the Slinky Series helped ease the pain of my not-being-here-to-post-ness. Sadly, it will probably be a while before i can return to post again. I'm in the midst of a move and the internet situation is just flat-out crazy-go-nuts, man, so it'll be some time before i can work out that part of my new digs. *sigh* Anyway, the other reason i haven't been around much is i got out to Comic-Con and have been getting myself back in place at work, at home and in time for the above-mentioned move. And, OMG, Tim Minear is a sweetheart! And Mark Sheppard is the same height as me AND a wonderful guy to boot! He signed my "Serenity: Left Behind" book - on his page! - and Tim (can i call him Tim now that we've had almost a full conversation, or do i need to continue using his full name?) signed my Firefly DVDs. Okay, floating back down to earth again...sadly, i missed Joss the whole time i was there, but i can now say i was in the same building as him at the same time, but it doesn't change the fact that i missed him completely. :disappointed: Finally, the last reason i haven't posted in a while is...i didn't have a plot. I had the slinky dress thing ALL SET UP for, like, weeks, just sitting there, taunting me...but no plot. Until last week. And then i had to get it all out and perfected - because i would never serve up something i'm not proud of to anyone - and...well...you know the rest. I hope everyone enjoyed the little trip down Crazy Lane with me, though. I realized halfway through this series that i tend to beat up on the Captain a bit, so next time, i'll try to not give him the flu...or a broken arm...or...a broken heart...or...poison...or...any of my other plot gaming devices. I promise. And...who knows? If people want to see Rowena and Kopacz pop up again...maybe i'll pull them back in. But they've got Issues - note the capital "I" there - and they give me nightmares... So, until next time, darlings...wish me luck in the move!

teasers for the weekend (hopefully!)
Tuesday, 21 August 2007 09:25:44

The wide, heavy and fragrant – not to say just plain stinksome – expanse of the Seleni delta rolled out across the miles as far the eye could strain to see. Tangles of green and purple textured fleshly and moist. Under the knots of vines, roots and wierd uprising creepage, were veins of dark water. Narrow atrophied causeways, browned and humid. The speedboat the men were on roared against the inert sludgy waters like an animal caught in a mire. The men themselves were, for the moment, quiet. One, at the back, minded the engine, scanning the unblinking horizons with a veterans narrowed gaze and, on occasion, flicking out a long macheted arm when his vision was obscured by growth. Their aim today was speed, not concealment – and the boat seemed determined to prove it.. The man at the prow of the craft was a killer. Wanted. Feared. A large man known for his temper. A soldier feared as ruthless and a criminal feared for his lusts. He had, in his span, killed many things and in many ways. He stood still – with a weapon lying in readiness on his lap – while a tensed hand spread its fingers to deliver a stealthy killing blow. The man at the engine of the boat had barely the time to blink before the killer had spun around and struck. There was the meaty sound of flesh striking flesh. “Ruttin’ mosquitos!” yelled Jayne Cobb. Looking at the boatman with appeal in his eyes. “they’re driving me nuts!” he slapped again, nearly toppling off the speeders low prow. .................................................. - about face

My Holiday from...not hell, but somewhere close.
Tuesday, 21 August 2007 19:00:14

So I am back from Rhodes. Okay, I've been back almost a week, but you know, been keeping busy. I have always loved Greece. I've been a lot in my short lifetime, once to Kos, twice to Crete, and now to Rhodes. And I've always loved it. The people are great, the food is perfection, and the weather is - admitedly, unsuitable for a girl who can burn and faint in a country currently half underwater, - but still, you know, pleasant. So what went wrong in Rhodes? Well, pretty much the apartments sucked. I can cope will dingy and basic, after all, my family are tight. We aren't looking for luxury. But you know, a pool that isn't surrounded by a massive wall which blocks out the sunlight and is therefore freezing would be nice. And if the snack bar served food, that would be great. And if the rooms didn't lock you in when they felt like it. (Seriously, this little 5 year old girl got locked in, bless her. So did I, but you know, sympathy for kids.) And you know, wire sticking out of bathroom wall. Not so good. And if they insist that you put loo roll in the toilets, they could at least empty the bins at some point during the week. Ach, I'm gonna stop complaining now, cos the fact is, all that wouldn't matter so much if it hadn't been for my brother moaning non stop the entire time. He complains that he's not getting enough sunbathinh done, WHILE throwing up from sunstroke. He does my HEAD in. Anyway, I'm back, and it really wasn't as bad as I'm making out. I'm just gonna be a but more wary getting last minute deals from now on. Up till now we;ve been lucky and found great places, but clearly that's not always gonna happen. So, some photies. Enjoy!!

Time for a new Blog
Tuesday, 21 August 2007 19:54:30

Ok, I just got back from a most excellent holiday in Cape Breton. My liver hurts, my cheeks hurt from laughing and I ate way too much. All that and I got in some good fishing. I return to, Softball playoffs, my girls end of season soccer tournaments and I'm left wondering... WHERE THE RUTTIN' HELL DID SUMMER GO??? On the bright side, I got the Serenity CE DVD today and a bonus, I found the complete Buster Crabbe Flash Gordon serials for $8.99. At least the winter will let me get some movies watched and get back to my drawing and writing. I got a bunch of new box sets to watch: Starhunter, Starhunter 2300, Babylon 5 Season one, Babylon 5: Crusade and the Blade set. It's tough, I know...but someone's gotta do it right?

Just an Update
Wednesday, 22 August 2007 00:03:59

I've been waiting to post another entry until I got settled in here at school. I've been living here for six days and we just started classes today. I like my classes so far, I had three today including voice for the stage which is my first acting class here. I have three tomorrow but, unlike today, I don't have to be at class until 9. I have no air conditioning in my dorm but considering that I'm in the mountains I'm sure that won't be a problem for long. I really wish I had been able to get out to walmart today to get the CE of serenity. I feel like sometimes I'm alone in the black out here. I have no roommate and it just gets lonely at nights. Hah I already need to clean my room - oh well! anyways that's the update from my oh so amazingly awesome life! ~Lizzie~

Those left behind
Wednesday, 22 August 2007 12:23:31

Where are the other racial groups of mankind, unrepresented in the few episodes of Firefly that we have seen? It seems likely that we can overlook small communities such as native Americans, Innuit and so on... they might well have opted for colonies far away from the Alliance, and we just haven't seen them yet. We see a few black faces in Firefly, but not many. Those that are seen seem to have an 'African American' background, rather than actually being from Africa. Still on an Earth that was failing, under ecological meltdown, where's the first place that will suffer massive famine? Africa. It seems plausible that these folks aren't seen in the 'Verse because they never got to leave Earth. Englishmen (of a kind) appear to exist, so it appears that the British managed to settle a world or two, thus giving us the lovely Badger and his colleagues. Where are the other Europeans? Well, again, it looks like they didn't make it. Much of Europe has a manufacturing economy. They import food. In the event of a famine (perhaps caused by oil supplies running low) it's no longer possible to import food from all over the world. Doesn't matter that you have Mercedes, Audi, Airbus, fancy pharmaceuticals... if people won't or can't trade with you, your country will soon dissolve into anarchy. The Chinese teamed up with the Americans in Whedon's "utopian" vision of the future... but we don't see THAT many Chinese. Maybe they like living cheek-by-jowl on just a few central planets? Where are the Japanese? A less corrupt nation with a more advanced space programme, you'd expect them to be in the 'Verse somewhere... unless Chinese expansionism means that there's no Japan, no Taiwan, etc., gone the way of Tibet. (The Americans turning a blind eye to this might have been the price of cooperation.) Where are the middle eastern nations? We know there are some Jews in the 'Verse, and Fanty and Mingo may have had ancestors from that region as well... but we see no Muslims. Where are the Indians? Remember that pretty early in the 21st century, there will be more Indians than Chinese. (Assuming Indians are still free-birthers, and Chinese aren't.) Humanity's most numerous population didn't make it to the stars? Here's my theory: they stayed behind. It would have been grim for decades, but eventually some kind of society could be re-established. Civilisation might be distinctly patchy, though! In the race to leave Earth-that-Was, and claim a piece of the new planetary system(s) that make up the 'Verse, I suspect that countless millions of people were abandoned. The poor, the unlucky, those with ineffective governments that failed to build arks. Remember, if you can terraform a world like Mars or Venus, and survive while doing it, you can probably survive on a polluted Earth (maybe not everybody, but some) and make it more 'Earthlike' again. Over time. I think one day the people of the new colonies will be hearing from Earth-that-Was again. Old Earth might become a new frontier, outisde Alliance jurisdiction. It might even be a hostile invader... or it might have sent colony ships elsewhere. We shall see.

Serenity CE Edition
Wednesday, 22 August 2007 21:15:28

Oh my Goodness! I just went to a Border's store and purchased the CE (I didn't want to wait for it and just decided to go down there). It cost a bit over $28 dollars. Egads! I forgot how expensive they (Border's) were. When I got back home, I went on the internet. I got the DVD at familyvideo.com for $18.73! I will be returning the one from Border's (which is a bummer because I wanted to watch it later). But for $10 less, I can wait. Family Video has a policy that shipping is 99 cents, no matter how big the order. So if you plan on buying a few videos, whether it be the CE or the Series, this is the place to order (or at least I think so). Just wanted to let you all know.

Malific
Thursday, 23 August 2007 02:49:26

MALIFIC: An About Face Interlude: There was a polite round of applause. The sophisticated, self-consciously civilised music of classical strings, waltz time and the ambient tinkling of jewelled fingers, cups and plates -china, of course. Shindig like this, he thought – and they always gotta go with the china. Never a good idea, so damned fragile. Always bound to end up bro- “Captain Malcolm Reynolds and The Most respectable Inara Serra”. A smooth voice ushered them in. “Fancy aint it!” Kaylee looked up at him from under a wayward lock of red hair. She took in the room beyond. “So… fine.” She gave a wide grin. Threw her arms around him. “I love my Captain.” She said. “Daddy” said River from behind her. “Well, shiny….” Said Reynolds gently prying himself loose. “Although – ‘Daddy’? I thought I told you before not to – and where’s Inara’s got to?” Kaylee grinned again. “Oh, she’s over there.” She waved. “Y’know. Dancing. Looking beautiful. Over there. With the other man.” “What?!” “One wearing a shirt.” Kaylee giggled. Mal realised he was clad only in his vest and pants. In his hands he was carrying a big beaker full of strong smelling beer. River looked at him earnestly. “You think you’re remembering it all wrong. But you’re not.” Her eyes were full of concern. Ok, so – confusion – but he didn’t have time for this right now. He had to – he was supposed to have come here with Inara for rut’s sake. And she was off – well, we’ll soon see about that. And he plunged forward into the smoothly dancing flow of people. There! Inara was swaying gracefully the fingertips of a gloved hand touching those of – yes gorram it – a stranger. Tall, well built. Wearing a decorated suit or fancy uniform. There were medals upon the chest. As Reynolds approached them, Inara turned with a hot look “Honestly!” she said, “I should’ve known you would-” Mal scowled in reply “I’m just here to look out for -” The other man cut him off sharply. “Look out for what Malcolm. A whore? Isn’t that just like you – think she belongs to you huh? Like your ship, your crew, your-” he laughed unpleasantly. “Family?” Mal’s fist began to clench. The man had not finished. “See though – I don’t believe Family’s built on the same things you do – dirt, crime, sin, whoring and the like. Family’s built on loyalty. Loyalty comes from the recognition of power. And I don’t see any power in you.” He nodded at Mal’s raised fist. “Can’t say as I blame you for being angry – truth hurts, as they say. Tho’ I reckon,” - He struck out suddenly with a lean hard fist, sending Mal sprawling to the ornately polished floor – “that probably hurt a deal more.” Staggering, Mal rose on unsteady legs. He lurched forward. Heedless of Inara’s waving him away. The two again came face to face. They shared the same face. Mal stared open mouthed. The other Mal spoke up anew. “Oh you may stare Captain Reynolds. But what are you really seeing here? You think I’m a bad person – think I disrespect your whore? Think you are yourself of worth and without stain? – well… correct me but, here’s a thing, you want this woman? Take her for your own? Well I have eyes myself now. And I can plainly see – you’re married already.” HUH? “It’s true!” Inara’s voice was accusing. She raised a hand, a slim finger pointing to his temple, pointing to his crown. His own fingers reached up to it now – slowly – feeling at first just the hard edges of his skull, then the wiry tangle of his hair and then – petals…in wonder, he realised that there were petals upon his head – bound together like a wreath. A marriage wreath. “No – no” he said hurriedly, “you don’t – I’m not – hold on a gorram minute here!” He could smell the fresh flower fragrance, it conjured up warm nights, a contented belly full of mead and a pretty lass, smiling before him – handing him the flowers, handing him the wreath. “It was never real,” he began staring at the faces floating before him. His vision was blurry. Wiped his eyes. “I never”- there was blood on his finger tips. Musta pricked himself, he though

My BDCE woes: so gorram close, yet so far!
Thursday, 23 August 2007 03:02:47

So, today was the first day of classes at my university. My last class today ended at 6:50 pm, and I took my time getting home b/c I was so exhausted! Before going to my apartment, I stoped to pick up my mail, and there was a note saying that a package arrived and it was waiting in the front office. It could have been only ONE thing, Serenity, Collector's Edition!!! I went to the main office, and to my dismay, the door was locked! They usually close at 7 pm, so I looked at my watch: 7:10. AAAAAARRRRRRRRGH! They open at 9 am, and I WILL be there to get my DVD! But even worse, I have a 10 am class fallowed by a 12:30 pm class. I won't be able to get home until about 2:30 pm! Oy, if Wash was there this evening to drive me home like Serenity was on full burn and reavers were on our tail, I would be watching it RIGHT NOW!

I love Amazon!
Thursday, 23 August 2007 12:39:22

I really can't believe it! I had preordered BDM CE from Amazon (as well as a few other special purchases such as Firefly visual comp. 2). The movie was released on the 21. I had my movie in my hand the morning of the 22nd! I didn't even put a rush order on it! I'm very impressed. I think I'll be ordering from them again soon.

When i was bad, it was fun to steal, i made it – fun. On my own. You can make things fun – when you’re on your own. Now i am not bad. No more. Kissed goodnight to the bad girl. Just sometimes – well sometimes i do bad things. Not fun. I never asked for anything. Any of this. The glitter in my fingers. The gleam in my eye. A way to survive. It can be hard to be a hero – on your own. Better to have someone – something. A monkey. A mutant. I call them friends. Something to do – together – something to share. Fear. We share fear. It lurks within us. It lurks. Here in the shadows i’m a lurker too. Learnt to lurk. Learnt to love the shadows. Learning, leastways. Street schooled you get a knowledge of shadows sooner or later. It can be hard. Better to have – friends It’s a better word than family – on the streets you don’t have family, you don’t... I had a brother once. He’s dead. Dead. And i’m standing in the shadows, the long shadows cast by the ‘Blue Sun’ Building... And i wanna know. How come i can smell my brother here.

First Page: SPLASH PANEL: very expressionist – blade runner meets caligari The Blue Sun Building Very Tall. Perspective makes it pinched at the bottom, wide at top – Like a coffin or a vampyre with folded wings. A cloak is also suggested by the large shadow the building casts. Inky, bloody, black. Edge of frame: A random vehicle light reveals FRAY crouching. Inset: Panel: FRAY c/o her face. Tense. “I can smell him – here.” Second Page: A series of 3 – 5 panels, frames overlapping, like jumps cuts or stills. Gradual close up of building. A winking light – inside.. Beats like a heart. Panel 6: Clearly we are x-raying in now. We see a plexi-glass coffin shape. From the base come tubes and wires. Panel 7: Long panel down right side of page. C/o an arm – clearly some sort of astronaut or biohazard suit. The gloved hand is rigid, talon like. Man: “AAAAUUUUGGCCCH!!!” Panel 8: left side of page. More hands. Blue gloved hands. A brief case snapping shut. “Boiled in the bag again, huh?” “Just like the others.” Panel 9: two faces in shadow. Only the blue gloves resting the case are clearly visible. “Put him in the protein freezer with the rest. –sigh-” “Yes Sir.” (by J/0)

Whatever

Okay, I'm just writing this blog so I have one and I stop getting bugged about my lack of one, so be warned, this is going to be a ramble. Or at least it would be if I could think of anything to say. You know, its funny the way when someone tells you think of something your mind goes totally blank? And then when you try to stop thinking about it, then when you don't need it anymore, ideas will just pop into your head? That happens all the time with me, which is why I want to be a writer, is because I could at least write down these useless ideas and revise them and stick them all together and then end up with a book. Too bad it doen't work that way. (actually, I want to be a writer because I like to read.) Oops, have to go, maybe add some more later.

Deleted Stories
Friday, 24 August 2007 04:19:33

Hello everyone. At first i just want to say how happy i am that i joined this site. It is truly amazing in my opinion. I love that people come on this site everyday and are still talking about Firefly and Serenity and im glad to be apart of that :] I've posted a few stories on here my first series being "The Great Divide". I got angry the other day and deleted the 3 installments i had. I re-read them and hated what i had written. They were too short and lacked detail. I wanted to post them so quickly that i just did and really didn't edit or fix them. The series is set before the BDM, in the middle of the series. It focuses around Simon, River and Kaylee. Where Simon doesn't think a relationship with Kaylee is the right thing to do at the moment considering River's situation. Then once something terrible happens Simon makes a bad decision and risks ruining his relationship with Kaylee and the whole crew. I had not gotten to the good part of the story when i deleted it so i dont want to give it away. I am however going to rewrite the story and put a little more of everyone in it and make it more detailed. I really hope that when i repost the first part again that everyone will give it a chance. It may have a different title but is the only story i am working on. It's my first real try at fan fiction and as an aspiring screenwriter i would like to know what everyone thinks of it :]

Don't think I'll be posting here anymore...
Friday, 24 August 2007 16:36:30

It seems like lately non-canon pairings have fallen out of favor and are no appreciated here anymore. It's nice to get so many views but the thing is, I'm not getting reviews anymore. Well it was nice to know all of yall. You can find me on LJ for graphics or fanfic. sprnova_fixxx@lj.com Peace out

Backstories Book II
Friday, 24 August 2007 17:06:57

So, I've gotten in the habit of blogging something when I start posting a fresh set of chapters, but there isn't much to say about this one. It's more of the same following Backstories, but with more focus on Mal now. In fact, you won't be seeing a lot of characters besides Mal, Zoe, Book and Inara for a while. Never fear - I'll get to the rest in time! Also, I really shouldn't be posting yet because I'm not at all done writing, but it's Serenity CE week, so what the heck! Postings will get sparse when I catch up to the not done parts. Real life requires my attention, and writing is slow. *sigh* Hope you enjoy!

I want to give away my regular Serenity DVD
Friday, 24 August 2007 17:15:24

Hey guys, forgive for not checking around first to see if this is already happening or not. When my uber-shiny SE dvds came in today, I looked over and saw my regular edition looking at me. That got me thinking. Instead of taking it to EB/Gamestop/FYE and getting less than $5 in credit for it, is there a collection started somewhere they'll take the dvds and give them out to homes or libraries or something? I would love to pass it on to someone who will see to it that she finds a proper home and exposes more folk to the 'verse as well. Please respond.

Whatever continued
Friday, 24 August 2007 22:06:26

Okay, here I am rambling on again. I can't think of what to say right away, so I'll sit and think a while........ aww kitties are so cute! I'm looking at my cat Snowy (you can tell where she got her name from) and she's laying down, taking a cat-nap, and looking so incredibly cute!!! Yes, I know I sound like a little kid, but I tend to over-react to stuff. I can't think of what else to say (I'm sorry, its a Friday, I end up being a zombie full-time on Fridays instead of just in the morning.) Yeah I'm not a morning person, and I don't understand them. How can they stand being up so early?! I can't do it. Whenever I wake up in the morning, I'm a zombie. Not a cannabalistic one, but a brain-dead one. Well, I have to go- I smelled pizza. Adios!

Excitement and adventure and really wild things
Friday, 24 August 2007 22:45:11

So in one week I will have already made the flight to Atlanta, settled in at the hotel, and be out and around DragonCon in a delerious round of Browncoats and gamers. Excited? Yes. Nervous? Oh yes. Still sad at how few people are able to make it? You have no idea. So, there's that. Also, I had my new student orientation this week. I'm still a bit scared of going to school. The nearly constant reminder lectures on study habits and how much time needs to be put in and the prospect of my (to me) most important class being so fast-paced and crazy... Yeah, none of that helped. I've kind of been gibbering since then. Lucky I've had a couple days off or I might have gone completely round the bend. I've just been relaxing and gibbering. It's great. Gibber! The other thing I've been doing has been considering the study abroad program that my school apparently offers. I didn't think such a little college would have such a thing, but there was a little flyer for it in with the flyers and brochures for everything else. Few of the countries popped out at me, one in particular, and I'm kind of figuratively bouncing on the balls of my feet trying to decide about it. I'm thrilled and terrified at the prospect. It would be a great opportunity to go to Australia and soak up the culture and meet *cough* people, and I truly do want to do that, but on the other side of that coin, it is an entire different country with a different culture and things to adapt to (go to another country and boom all the sudden you don't know how to drive anymore) and all that, and I'm just unsure about adding that to the stress of school. Plus right now I have no idea what the cost is or how and where the program may be set up. No one at the international program office has returned my call, and probably won't until the school re-opens, so I'll have to try to get some info after DragonCon. Obviously, it wouldn't be doable this semester anyway, but I'd like to know what I need to know to really think about it. Generally, everyone's been in favor of it and think I should go for it, but this is me, I have to worry and brood. Tempted as I've been, I don't know that I could just jet off to Australia without a fair bit of panic once I got there. I have to know where I'm going. So there's an update on me for all interested. Now I have to think of something relaxing to do.

hearts and lungs - finally had time to get my log site sorted!

in the absence of genuine firefly - we do the best we can welcome aboard my firefly - please wander through the blogs/rooms
The picaresque (Spanish: "picaresca", from "pícaro", for "rogue" or "rascal") is a popular subgenre of prose fiction which is usually satirical and depicts in realistic and often humorous detail the adventures of a roguish hero of low social class who lives by his or her wits in a corrupt society.
...................................... Mal’s eyebrows signalled their enquiry – even before he spoke. “Well Mr Feng, then perhaps you’d do me the kindness of explaining how you crash a low flying fast burning piece of merry gosa - smack into the ground here – and you aint dead?” Mal’s voice was deliberately bland. “Oh? well – it’s a swamp hereabouts.” “Right enough. A swamp. That it is. And I just know you’re gonna fill me in on how you crash a low flying fast burning piece of metal into a gas spewing, toxic and highly flammable swamp, without exploding?” Jefferson Feng’s smile was as broad as his arms were wide. “Ha! Well Sir, I’ve a large heart and full... of the love of the wide and bonny ’verse and just too plain kind intentioned to die so easy – or so dumb.” “I see.” said Mal. “Also..." Feng continued "I had him.” Feng gestured with a hankerchief towards the lowering figure of Jayne. “Well now Mal and that is the truth of it. I saw the ship crash – ‘tweren’t hard on figuring no survivors, lots of scav.” Mal nodded. “You got a story there too Jayne? – How you came to wade through a poisonous swamp full of gas and into and out of this man’s fiery abode.?” Feng chuckled. “No doubt Captain, like me, this man too has a generous big heart.” “Got big lungs.” Said Jayne simply. ................................... - about face:

Nothing And More
Saturday, 25 August 2007 07:11:49

As you probably haven't noticed I haven't posted a chapter in a while. This is for two reasons-one I've been swamped by essay's at the moment and two I've decided to finish the story before I post it. This will save further delays down the track and help me with editing and so on! It's been boring lately, not writing Firefly stuff-But I did have to write a sci-fi story for Lit class and managed to reference Firefly at least a dozen times. Yippee horray! Oh and I saw Jewel Staite in a Tv show called Dead Like Me that I borrowed from a friend. She was a goth that got turned on by the fact that one of the characters was Grim Reaper. They had sex in a record store storeroom. Quite hilarous. Keep on Flyin' ladies and menfolk!

Anniversary ... and thanks!
Saturday, 25 August 2007 08:24:35

It's 9.23 am on Saturday 25th August (I'm in the UK) and I've just realised something. I have been looking back over my uploads, and I've discovered that it is now a year since I began telling my version of Firefly tales. In that time I have written close to one million words (and counting) and killed a number of people! There’s also been a lot of fluff, some hard angst, and laughs aplenty (even if it is only from folk finding my grammar sometimes amusing). There's even been some sex! So here’s from me, to you, celebrating a year of the Maya ‘verse, and also to the next year … there’s lots more stories in my head, and if I don’t get them out it could explode. Which could be messy. And I'm not cleaning it up. :smokin:

Creative a Go Go!
Saturday, 25 August 2007 09:15:58

Well thought it was about time i floated a wave out. Still working away at university trying to get me some learning. Not doing too bad so far got all my work up to date. Perhaps the best part of my studies is the course creative reading and writing. Why?. Simple for the course i am expected to do a lot of creative writing funny that. Also the course is giving me a pack of tips for bettering my writing so i may try and get another fanfic up. Next for my major portfolio of work at the end of the course i get to do a comic. The whole portfolio is 2500 words and of that i'll be putting in a ten page comic of the same style as Frank Miller's Sin City lots of black and white with a few key colours. In other news i've been getting out a fair amount lately with last night making the third week in a row. This is an all time record for me. Not too bad really alot of fun catching up with mates and having a laugh. More to the point it's provided me with a few ideas for my writing. Anyhow i'll stop boring everyone and let you get back to the black. Till next time.

My wisdom teeth are GONE!
Saturday, 25 August 2007 23:23:38

I got my wisdom teeth removed today, along with a molar that served no purpose. I went in scared out of my mind, but the worst part was the sting of the needle they used to numb me, and I gagged on the spacer they used, to separate my jaw. They took it out and I just held my mouth open. Aside from the sting of the first needle, and the gagging, it was no problem! I don't even have serious pain to relieve!

My Less Than Triumphant Return to the Fold
Monday, 27 August 2007 00:46:51

Well now...glad to see things haven't collapsed into a spiralling and rather flamey plummet to crapulence around these parts. Ya know…when I ain't here to lead in the cheers of Browncoat goodness. Warms my emotionally leaden ticker, it does  Yes, my fellow Browncoats, consider this a formal declaration of my continued existence in the 'Verse, though leagues more world-weary and frustrated with my life than I was a mere 2 months ago, when things took a camouflaged turn toward the Hoban Washburne definition of "interesting." The following is a short summary of the intervening time between when I last hung about these parts, making with the cheerleading and the feedbacking, and this moment (7:56 PM EDT, Sunday, August 26th, 2007): Around the 21st of June, I answered an ad in my local daily's classifieds for a company seeking someone to help out around the place when it came to their day-to-day operations. Applying for the job under the assumption (and we all know what happens when one assumes something) that is was for an office gopher and desk jockey position, I submitted my resume to what turned out to be a used car lot; I also submitted resumes to another used car lot and a Suzuki dealership that was looking for someone who could do auto detailing (i.e. cleaning vehicles) and lot security on the same day. A couple of days go by and I get a phone call from the first used car lot’s head honcho, asking if I could come in for an interview the next day and I agreed immediately (being a then-unemployed university student). Honestly? It was probably the first step toward my current status of barely hanging on, sanity-wise. I arrive about 10 minutes early for the interview and wait patiently to meet with the man who became my current boss. Finally, it’s show time and I get called in. It should be said that my boss being dressed in a pair of shorts, a T-shirt and loafers probably was the first sign of things not being as one would expect, but I brushed this off mentally as being a pleasant discovery of probably being able to wear casual clothes on the job. We sit down and the interview begins. It was mostly the usual kinds of questions that HR people throw at one to feel out how a person would react or handle a given type of situation, but thinking back on it, there were an awful lot of questions related to sales. Mainly because, as I found out on my first day after getting hired (supposedly did real well on my interview, according to my boss weeks later), I had been hired to replace my boss’ right hand man who was going back home to New Brunswick (that’s a province in Canada that is partially surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, for those not familiar with North American geography). This is where things got interesting in the previously indicated way…. Basically, to condense the following 2 months in a tidy summary, I got 3 weeks of training from the guy I was taking over for (an obscenely small amount for the job I have), I have sold more than 20 cars in the 2 months I have had my job (an impressive number…until my boss tells me he wants to see the sales board constantly full and that he once sold 12 cars in a day), I recently found out that it has been illegal for me to sell cars as a salesperson since I have not completed the mandatory certification course and registered with the Ontario Motor Vehicles Industry Council (a regulatory board for automotive sales), I was used as an avatar for my boss to basically fire one of my coworkers (boss was off in Toronto when he got a status report from the lot’s garage manager that the co-worker was seriously behind in his work, so my boss has me send the guy home ‘till Monday on his behalf), and my boss has more mood swings than River when she’s off her meds (pre-Miranda). All of this has left me feeling like I need to quit ASAP…but realizing doing so would cause major problems; I know I have every right to…but I get the feeling that if I quit, the next person to come along would be worse off than I am because my boss doesn’t believe in acclimatization periods and p

DRIVE SEASON II

................................ teaser John is next... man is he running out of time. Long Time Leaving. coming soon - Have you ever looked at the stars? – when you can see them – you know you really should. When you.... look at the stars shining – like rain beads on a cob-web, glass on a highway. When did I get so poetic? Could be the drugs I suppose – effecting neurological processes, functions. I read about a fella once – in a book by that... Sachs, Oliver Sachs, I think he wrote the book. The other man – I don’t remember his name, he said: “My brain is on fire.” He had been asleep – and they woke him up, suddenly. He’d been sleep, sleeping sickness, yes but – they woke him, quite suddenly... and he could move and talk and read and write, think, create... and he was, well he was just great at all these things. After all that time. And then – he couldn’t stop – do you know? He was – “my brain is on fire” – and he begged the doctors till they stopped his treatment and he – he just – he went back to sleep. ......................................................... the basic premise is: Drive - the RACE - has been cancelled - but the players don't know! they are fried, living on their nerve ends - desperately hunting for clues and interpreting the slightest sign or occurance as an INSTRUCTION just for them. they are also trying to locate each other using differing media.. the race locations have become more surreal - and some of the backgrounds to the characters expanded.
Alex as a Getaway driver is now taken as a read. But we have also learned that he was a teacher once. His line abut 'some college' as his level of education being a flat lie. Why???
PLEASE CONTRIBUTE - and leave a link in the comments box... ................................... pilot: (currently being re-shot!) episode one: Still in the Race - Alex

FicPimping Alert
Monday, 27 August 2007 16:31:06

Been playing in the threads a while, and the ideas are starting to crowd around and jump up and down with bright little shiny faces and piteous cries for attention... I've been trying to write in the Real World, where they actually pay you cashy money for it, but I'm hitting blockage at present. Guess that's a punishment for being away from all you shiny folk for so long. So. Conjure I'd best get some of the disparate ficlings corralled up, branded with a li'l SpaceAnJL weirdness and then let loose to roam. I'm rewriting a very big sprawl of stuff. It didn't quite work properly, so I'm dismantling it for parts. Basically, I'm trying to write the follow-up to 'Zen...' but I also have some random caper-style goodies which need their own playpen. So, the good news is that I have quite a lot of words written up. Bad news is that they are a little scrambled in the brainpan at present. But stick with me here. Some of the stuff I can see on the back of my eyelids really needs to be shared with an audience. Preferably the type who like a little snark with their warm and fuzzies, and appreciate the very best violence. After all, I've been re-reading Gibson, Herbert and Gaiman, digging through the music collection and watching some quality wu xiao. *cracks knuckles* I've been out of the BSR too long. Too many young pretenders to the Throne of the Queen of Crackfic.

Another show bits the big one

That new reality show about the fashion model turned newscaster is off the air after one episode. That is up there with "My Mother the Car". At least "Drive" made it past the premier. I tired find out about this show, but I forgot the title. All I know is the DJ's on the radio station I listen to liked it. I guess they were in the minority.

NEW fanfic is up
Wednesday, 29 August 2007 11:25:55

Ok i have posted a new Fanfic. It's the first rough draft of the infamous fanfic novel i have been talking about. I've got a good 7000+ words so far. I want you gents and ladies who are proud browncoats to give a struggling independent some feed back either by posting in the fanfic itself or Email me at yaujta2@hotmail.com. Also if you want print the thing out show it to friends etc. Basically i want it out there so i can get a pack of feed back. This story is my baby and i want it in print. So the big plan is get it all finished and polished and sent it off to Joss and get the official seal of approval. I feel the story is good enough to make it. Ofcourse none of the property is mine so without the official nod she aint getting off the dirt and with out your feed back she wont get polished and sent off. So please help me out. Also theres a special level of hell for people who steal book ideas (see the irony there). Enough palaver go read.

I love Fireflyfans.net and all the fan fiction!
Wednesday, 29 August 2007 16:40:25

There truly are some gifted writers on this site and they contribute some much-needed quality to the world of fan fiction. Thankfully, there is more quality than otherwise, here in the Blue Sun Room; but I think that comes from the community of folks who inhabit this space and welcome newcomers like me with open arms. I'm try to leave comments for the stories I read, although I've been a lurker for almost 3 years now and have lots of catching up to do. Generally, I prefer the canon-based stories to most alternate universe (AU) stuff, but there are some great examples to the contrary. As for pairings, I prefer the canon relationships and barely-emerging feelings left to us by the series and hinted at in the movie. I'm definitely not a fan of any out-of-character behavior or any of our BDH acting against their nature, at least as revealed in the series and movie. LadySage

What Makes Us Mighty
Wednesday, 29 August 2007 20:59:03

I just watched "Done the Impossible" for the first time. I bought it at ComicCon, and then in the confusion of moving 400 miles away, I never got a chance to watch it. I know, excuses, excuses. Anyway, I loved it. It made me feel such love for my fellow Browncoats, and it made me feel like I'm part of something so wonderful just by being a fan. I wanted to say how much I appreciate this fandom as being so unique and... Hell, let's face it... superior to all others. It was so nice to see so many bright shiny fan faces as they talked about what was so important and real and wonderful about Firefly.

BDCE extended scenes
Thursday, 30 August 2007 06:26:50

I'm loving my new Serenity Collector's Edition box set, and I love the fact that they've included extended scenes in the extras, but I have to ask: how difficult would it have been to release the BDCE as an extended version? It's not like the studios haven't all realized that, yes, fans will sit through a 3 1/2 or 4 hour extended version and still want more. Witness the LOTR phenomenon. Before the Fellowship of the Ring came out in theatres, the media pundits were of the opinion that the movies were going to be too long to entice any but the most diehard Tolkien fan. They pretty much had to eat their words. Then, before the extended versions came out on DVD, I remember people who had seen the movies in the theatre saying, "how can they improve on it by extending it?" Well, I've had DVDs of both the theatre releases and the extended versions, and I have to say that I by far prefer the extended versions. I would have loved to have seen the extended versions in the theatre. Now, just think how fan-damn-tabulous it would be to have a full extended version of Serenity! And it's not like it would be as long as any of the LOTR extended versions; it might come to another 1/2 hour extra, at most. I'd pay for another edition; give Joss the opportunity to cut in all the material he had to leave out due to ratings considerations and time constraints, call it the Director's Cut, and I'll be first in line to preorder.

Appreciator, not creator
Thursday, 30 August 2007 16:46:06

Yep, I think I'm realizing that I enjoy appreciating all the fan fiction and imagery and other things that have been inspired by our BDH. I've posted a badge and a flag, but those basic images existed already in various forms. I just made some adjustments I felt personally were needed. Heck, add a grid on top and you could create your own knitting pattern or crosstitch project. As for trying to really blend images into a background, sketch something original, or write anything myself, I'd have to say no. I guess I like showing others that their work is reaching an audience and try to encourage them to keep improving and building on what they are making. It seems like the worthier part as well as the path I'm meant to take. :-)

Armageddon Expo Melbourne
Friday, 31 August 2007 02:30:16

Does anyone here have any info on the upcoming Armageddon Expo in Melbourne? I know the basics, like Adam West will be doing a guest appearance, and there'll be laser-tag a-plenty (every girl's dream...or maybe that's just me), but I'm still umming and ahhing about showing up. Has anyone been to one of these things before? And if so, would you recommend going?

Serenity Collector's Edition Fund

I'm a poor college student looking to sell her old copy of Serenity for the CE. I've put the older DVD on ebay, along with the comic "Those Left Behind", in hopes that I can cover a bit of the cost of the CE. It is in widescreen format and the graphic novel is in decent-good condition (no torn or wrinkled pages, just a crease and a small rip on the cover and spine). If anyone wants to help someone get into Firefly:
