Happy April's Fool Day everyone ! Okay, now the blog. Miniatures, I have been converting miniatures for several years now. I have found the 28mm range to be the best to use, because of the vast number of miniature companies. I started doing D&D figures for freinds, like their charaters and went on from there. The Firefly crew that I am now working will take a while but I'll have it done.

Just a small ramble to keep myself alive on the boards. Wytchcroft and I are playing 'I'm sicker than you' at the moment (physically, rather than mentally, but that's another debatable point :biggrin: ) In my case, I'm still in the middle of blood tests to find out what IS wrong. So far we've ruled out anaemia, diabetes, thyroid trouble, kidney trouble and pregnancy(!?!) I hadn't even considered the last, what with Pills and the like, so I freaked and ran about the room a bit, which amused the doctor. Of course, it's all good material. If I do still have any other readers out there, I haven't forgotten you. 'Tic Tac Tao' has mutated slightly, because I found something in the scripts that sent me on a new direction (and something nobody else has done yet, I think.) I'm trying not to get into lengthy discussions on the threads about things - my arguments, conclusions and extrapolations are all in my text. But I'm working on some backstory for the 'Verse, how we got there from here, and what Londinium is like. (I'm still going to write Jayne on Londinium, simply because the pictures in my head are too good to waste.) I spend more time in the Black than I do in the 'Real World'. But I don't think that's a bad thing...

Well it's raining once more. A very heavy rain in fact, satellite is messing due to the weather. I only hope that my wife's Filipino shows got recorded before the satellite went bad. It's my off day from work and I finished a couple of miniatures. Work is okay, it's the only place that I know of where the deers, skunks, possums , and other animals have their own fire department as well as a security force.

So, my last post was a horrifically long time ago...I greatly misjudged how long it would take to recover from my accident, and once I was no longer completely bedridden, how long it would take to regain mental clarity from all the drugs I was on. And so here I am, only today posting the final chapter to Crew, But Not. My life is back to a reasonable semblance of normality, though I still have a long road to complete healing. I'm not sure if I will be writing more fanfic in the near future...we'll see how the wind blows. Whatever happens, I hope never to have such a long wait forced on my readers!

I live in Korea and I was listening to the radio today and all of a sudden Jayne Cobbs' voice came from the speaker. "You know what the chain of command is? It's the chain I go get and beat you with till you understand who's in rutting command here!" I nearly died laughing. It was a commercial for the Armed Forces Radio Station here and it was saying that the Eagle FM (the name of the station) was in command of the airwaves in Korea. But it was so shiny for them to use a quote from Firefly and from Jayne of all people. Great stuff!

Well I uploaded the first chapter of my fanfic about an hour ago and I must say I'm very nervous about it. Having looked in the blue sun room a number of times I realized that my fanfic will be lost as there is so much out there, more than I ever imagined there would be and they look at a number of different themes in different time lines its rather messy yet logical and shows real love for a show that has long since departed but never leaves our hearts.

Well we are trying to sale our old house but no luck so far. The realastate agent we talked to said to remove the old carpert, which I am about to do. We did rent the house out but the renters were bad. I know here are some good renters out there but these people were not them. I would not mind so much that they did not pay rent of three months, if they had left the house in clean shape. Such is life.

Was probably not one of my finest days ever. It was just not my day. I was tired because I couldn't get to sleep last night for one, and two... the gorram Advanced Placement Statistics work we're doing in class makes absolutely no sense to me... which made me extremely irritable and frustrated, so when I went to my Chem. class I got a lecture from one of my gorram classmates who thinks she's God, and yet she only sounded like my mother, then in my literature class one of my friends (who I used as a punching bag after what he did to me today) and I aren't speaking to each other and I'm feeling extremely pugnacious. :fork: I had a bad day. Can you tell? Then later on... my parents had the nerve to try and argue with me about the stupidest things which just made me completely fly off the handle and I kept digging myself a bigger hole because I became so fed up with it all. My ex came up to me after whining like a pansy for a week after I broke up with him and cussed me out so I gave him the finger and walked away. During my lunch break I kept... dropping things. What the hell? Who just keeps... dropping things? The day just kept gettin better and better (using obvious sarcasm) and now I want to lock myself in my closet and never come out. Yep. Thanks if you actually read this whole thing without complaining about grammatical errors or anything and such. I just needed to vent somewhere. *sigh* I feel a little better. :smile:

This is a totally un-firefly related thing but I need a place as an outlet for my grief. This guy that I am friends with has cancer. His name is Stu and he is 23 this year. I met him over a year ago through my church and he is the MOST AMAZING PERSON I have EVER met in my entire life. He is so funny, so eccentric, so smart and imaginative and I know that if I ever meet my future husband I would love for him to be just like Stu. He has been struggling with his cancer since about October I think and I had read in his face book that things were looking better for him in the last month. Today my sister got an e-mail from his sister in law and she came to me with the e-mail printed out and tears in her eyes. Things have taken a turn for the worse for Stuart and the doctors are telling him that he might have 1-2 years if he is lucky. It makes my heart feel hollow when I think of him and what might happen. He is so loved and admired. When he started going through treatment and started loosing his hair his male friend s in support shaved their heads in support for him. His brother even recently got a tattoo of his face on his arm. The e-mail said that the cancer is not responding to treatment... but we all have hope. All of us supporting him are Christians and are constantly praying for him. I can't help but think of shepherd Book and his constant faith. When I start to feel discouraged I think of him and he inspires me, a believer in a god lost to the rest of society. If anything does happen to him I know that he is in God’s hands and I pray that God will let him stay with us a little while longer. If you believe in God and in the power of prayer, even though you don’t know him, PLEASE I BEG YOU PRAY FOR STU. He needs all the support we can give him. -WITH LOVE FROM ANNA, THE JACKAL

Ok, I'm going to rant for a bit. You can choose to read it or get the hell out of town, lol 1. Arriva. The worst excuse for a bus company ever! Last year they made over £200,000 a day profits so this year they put the prices up again. It now costs £6 for a day ticket and a return to Peterlee £4.30. I was not amused. 2. I had to cancel my driving lesson this week because i had to go to the job centre. I re-arranged it for next Wednesday but guess what? I have to go back to the job centre at the same time as my lesson so I have to rearrange it yet again. 3. Speaking of the job centre; it is the most soul destroying place I have ever been to. Also, they want to know all my bank details and i have to provide a statement for my ISA under a month old. Problem is; I only get one statement a year in September, so I have no idea what to do. 4. My next door neighbours. They've been playing their music at stupid 0'clock again! on the plus side, Doctor Who started tonight. It was awesome. TTFN Jennifer -x-

Yeah, I know it's not Firefly, but I've just started playing Rock Band. I haven't toyed with the guitar much, since out of all of us, I'm one of the few that actually likes to sing. We did find an interesting little cheat for the game though. If you aren't familiar with it, in order to engage your "Star Power" and get extra points, you have to scream into the microphone (with the guitar you just have to tilt it). I personally think that's kind of dumb. I would like to keep my voice long enough to play the game for a while. But apparently if you just blow real hard into the mic, it doesn't know the difference. Yep. It's cheating. But whatever.

I can't believe it's been this long since I've been here. I gotta be more diligent in my obsession with Firefly. Today, just enjoying a day off and wishing I could get to the Browncoats Ball in Austin in October. Maybe...... Would need a dress. Hee! That's the fun part, the getting ready.

For those of you who haven't realized how old I am or anything to that effect, I'm 18 and I'm just getting ready to graduate High School. People always say your reputation in High School won't matter after you graduate anymore and that you'll most likely only stay in contact with one or two of your closest friends. To be honest, I'm a mite scared of leaving and ending up having no one contact me after it's all over with. I know I'll still be in contact with a few since I see them outside of school all the time... it's just that I feel close with a lot of people and it's happened before; where I lose contact and all of a sudden when we see each other we just ignore each other's presence. It's a heart-wrenching thing to think about. My efforts to keep in contact with people won't be for nothing, however. I'm going to try my best and then hopefully they'll try too. It's not all too shabby of a plan, now is it? :wink:

Well we removed all the carpet and pad in the old house. I used the weedeater to mow around the outside of the old house. Still have a lot to clean up, especially the back yard. We did have a wooden fence around the old house, did have. The renters torn it down and used it to make a dog pen. My wife is not real happy about that, along with other things they did. Well we remove the old carpet to the dump in the morning, along with some of the other stuff. Until later.

First off, I just want to say thanks to the lovely people who comment on my logs. You're all great. =] So everyone eventually moves up to the Senior Class in High School and there comes a day towards the end of the year when it's a popular day to ditch... called Senior Ditch Day. Mine was today. =] Yep. So I'm home right now. I think I'm gonna go out a little bit later with Sky and a few other of my friends and just chill elsewhere. Maybe we'll go to the beach or something. Yeah, that sounds like fun. Haha, so anyway... I know many people here are older than me, so I was just wondering... What did you do on your Senior Ditch Day?

I've been paying more and more attention to the quotes that appear up on screen and I just have to say that I simply love them. Love them to death. Joss Whedon is such a clever fellow, it's no wonder there have been a countless amount of Firefly fans everywhere. I'm so proud to be a part of this fascination with Firefly because I'm sad to say that I never knew about Firefly and Serenity until just recently. My friend (many of you know her as ShinyBrit or just Brit) let me borrow the series. She said, "I can't believe you've never even heard of Firefly! You [i]have[/i] to watch this!" So she lent me the box set and the collector's edition movie and I watched EVERYTHING all in one day. I couldn't stop! It was like an addiction! The day after I bought the series and the movie for myself with the thought in my head, "I can't believe I never knew about this!" I heard about fireflyfans.net both from the special features on the box set and Brit, so that's why I'm here. All thanks to her. I'm so glad to share the fandom with all the other Browncoats out there finally... so many years after Firefly went off the air and Serenity was already on DvD. It makes me think sometimes... what if the people who just recently found out about Firefly and Serenity, knew about it years back? I bet it would have been so much easier to keep the show on the air and by now we would have a second movie. It's unfortunate that we have to sit here and wait, year after year, with wistful thoughts that maybe... just maybe... they might bring back Firefly... or create a sequel to Serenity. None of us can say we know for sure, but we can hope and pray for another one. Browncoats never give up and never give in, so we're gonna keep hoping for more. And one of these days... I just know it... there will be another Serenity.

What if there was a Firefly video game? Or a novel based on Serenity? As long as it was made well and not tied down by a storyline and would let players make their own choices(Alliance or Browncoats, for a start), pull smuggling runs, explore the verse, and just generally let gamers experience the freedom of the verse, it could inspire many a non browncoat to watch the series and the movie, and thus converting them into browncoats, which would expand the fan base, which would get us one step closer to a second season or another movie. The same can be said about novels. A novel based on Serenity would inspire many people to watch the series and the movie, and again, would expand the fan base and the chances of another movie. There is a lot of fan fic out there, but the people mainly absorbing it are already browncoats, and thus have no need to be converted. A published novel could really help out the cause. Just some ideas on how to keep Serenity flying.

Was productive. The new haircut's looking better than I thought. Having curly hair can be a bit of a, well, problem. It had been so long for so long that I'd forgotten how bloomin' ridiculous it could look short. But the woman that cut my hair did a great job, so I look fairly human. Got some work done on a video I've had in the planning stages for awhile. And managed to fix my uploading/saving problem as well. So, I suppose I really should be working on that. But Firefly stuff is much more fun. Today, not so productive. I already am ticked off. My family sometimes forgets I'm not just "The Mom". Oh, well, could be worse, has been worse, and probably will be worse again, so I'm off to make myself have a good day. Hair's still looking good. That's a plus.

Last night we had a bad storm come through the area. My wife's car was hit by hail, the front wind shield was cracked, dented the roof and hood. Our old house that is for sale, a rear window broken and some of the outside panle damaged with holes in them. Other places in town were flooded, several homes had windows broken out,there was a fire. But our new home was not damaged at all, it only rained over here.

OK, so I'm reading very slowly; blame my friends. I will attempt to push forward this weekend and try and finish the book and then start some rough character sketches...then start [i]On Killing[/i]. On the plus side, I'm still spreading the gospel of Firefly to the masses. My latest (hopefully) convert is an exchange student from Korea. We've been friends for a while and were both bored today so we decided to watch a movie. Me being the kind of guy I am only had the Godfather collection, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, a few John Wayne movies, and of course Firefly and Serenity. Well, low and behold she picked out the box set of Firefly and asked me what that was about; so we watched the pilot today and she did have a bit of trouble following the opening part, but got it with my help and says she really enjoyed it. [i]xiong can sha shou[/i] means "ass-kicking killer." In my endeavors to create the ultimate Firefly play-by-post roleplay I think I have gone mad. I've taken to the characters, fallen in love with their personalities, and taken an eerie amount of interest in the actual canon of things. Like... Kaylee, for a great example. She's not all shiny and cheerful all the time. She's got as many dark sides as Jayne does, only she's better at hiding them I think. She's very open it's true, but she's also very mature about it and it's obvious that some of the things others like Simon or Mal might find embarrassing she has no issue with, like openly talking about sex. Not even Inara talks about it as much as Kaylee. That's just the one. Has anyone really put any thought to the little nugget about Inara that Joss talked about? That when she said "I don't intend to die at all" and what it all meant? Nandi does comment that she doesn't look a day older than she did when they were back at the Companion training house; is she hiding more than her feelings for Mal? At any rate, it's just a mini-rant in order to keep my brainpan cool and sane.

This isn't a rant,aint too sure what it is ,only i've a need to get it of my chest.Where too begin,why am i here?Im 41 and should know better ,tis only a show which got cancelled,but im here most days .I can relate too most of the characters,book,wash even mal,you dont get too my age without collecting a few scars even if i am in my shepard mode and have hope.don't get me wrong i've a good life and know i have ,which is the important thing.When i first came here JETFLAIR gave me a wave and wrote this "being a browncoat is sharing a powerful love of this cancelled show with an extended family of frendly folk all across the world.It's not really a costume thing,or any such artificial construct.Most of us call ourselves browncoats because something about the show resonates very strongly with us and when we discover other people with whom we have that in commom,frendships are born ".Now too the hub of it,I've spent the last two weeks in hospital visiting a relative,I can cope with our pain but i was talking too a nurse ,she had spent three day with my relative and she was in bits,a relative stranger,been doin the job twenty years or so with tears in her eyes.Nearly cut me in two .Im not too sure what im saying only that there is more good in the world than I give it credit for.hopefully someone understand me .nuff sed

On Monday it will be sort of geared to females when I demonstrate how to style hair in a Victorian fashion (this takes a little planning because pictures are necessary). I had one of the worst days ever yesterday, it all started when I got up late and had to take my gran to the shops which made me late for my class in uni. Being late I then decided to get the film equipment out that my room needed in order to film that day. So I sat alone in the corridor waiting for like an hour for my film crew to arrive as they were in the class I was late for. Once they did arrive they kind of blanked me and left me standing alone again for another 10 minutes. We then went and did some filming which on the whole was good but not before I found out that I have a script to write, as well as a 2000 word essay for Friday. If that wasn't enough after the filming two of my crew members had an argument over the phone, then I got blamed for not telling people what was going on. The worst of that being the one who told me was this girl I like and would like to date or grapple with. when I finally got home a friend called me and said he was annoyed I wasn't going out that night, my little sister annoyed me to the limit, my parents were on my case and I couldn't connect to the PlayStation network for a game of COD, my fan fiction rating went from a solid 8 to a 7 and when I opened a beer I proceeded to spilled it everywhere. As if that wasn't enough I had a dream where River kicked my ass and I had to work at 7am this morning.

One of my favorite actors died this past week and it really brought into focus our short time on this lonely little world. Charlton Heston passed on at 84 and he was one of the first actors I recall recognizing in my younger years. Ben Hur and The Ten Commandments were a couple of the first big movies I remember seeing and they were bigger than life. The decisions made by the actor’s character in those movies may have been hard ones but we knew they were the right ones. Funny, those movies were about the small hero fighting against the bigger established ruling foe of the time (that sound familiar?) and even back then that theme was popular.

Why am I so glad the weekend's over? Because I work weekends. Usually, I work a few shifts during the week as well, but they've cut part-time employees hours for Spring. They do it every year. They hire a whole bunch of full time temporary cashiers and to be able to handle the hours in the budget, they cut the hours of us part timers. Ticks me off every year. I really need a new job but the hours (when I get them) fit perfectly with the Kiddo's school hours. Meh. Maybe next year, I can go full time. Or not. But, now I have all the time I need to work on those videos I keep wanting to do. I have some footage for the first in my series of "Being a Tourist in Your Own Hometown". So, that's my goal for this week, as well as keeping up with the exercising. Two weeks down, two to go before it becomes a habit, right? Right???? Please? So I had this earache, ya see? Pressure in my ear, hearing loss, face swollen on that side, ringing, numbness, yadda-yadda... Had it for a week and it wouldn't go away. Had something similar maybe 10 years ago, and I figured antibiotic, decongestant, maybe a shot of cortisone, which is what it took back then. So I took a night off from my job and made the first doctor's appointment I've had in about 10 years. Walked in, paid the fee, filled out alla the paperwork. The nurse took my blood pressure-- then stopped. Took it again. Changed to a different machine. Tried the other arm. Got the Doctor's Assistant. He tried both arms. Then they got the Doctor. She took it on both arms and then explained. It was 190 over something. 200 is when the little oil derrick on Popeye's head explodes in a gusher. Which, of course, blew her mind. " Can't treat your ear, anything I do might cause a stroke. We gotta get your BP under control before you leave the office today---" So she put me on one BP med--- she says it may take a combo of 3 or 4, but she wants to sneak up on 'em one at a time, to watch for side effects. Makes sense. Meanwhile, lifestyle changes- exercise, take pills, loose weight, change my diet, low sodium, low colesteral, reduce sugar and caffiene, lower stress, monitor my BP, buy a machine for that, Lots of Doctor office visits at $ 30 a pop. And a blood test... Now, I've got a phobia about folks with needles. Can't watch some of the scenes in FF and the BDM where they're sticking folks with 'em. That's the main reason why I haven't been to a doctor in years- never been in a medical situation yet where somebody wasn't trying to stab me with something sharp, usually in the ass, and hurt me, " for my own good." Well we contacted the insurance company and was told to wait for a call in order to see the damage to my wife's car. Yes, that storm hit hard around here, mostly the north side of town where my wife works.There is alot of damaged cars here. But outside of that nothing big is going on at work. The deers are fat and lazy, they walk around as if they own the base, well maybe they do. They are not afraid of us, many times I have to stop the brush truck (wildland fire fighting vehicle) and wait until the deers have finished crossing the road. Not at a run like most, but these deers stroll across the roadway like they have all day to cross.

I've been snooping around the net, trying to find out some details for the upcoming X-Files 2 movie.. The inner X-Phile has been rewatching the show lately, and getting excited about the return of Mulder and Scully. These characters were major role models in my teenage years. The X-Files is a big part of who I am as a person. It helped to spark my curiosity of this planet, and open my mind to more supernatural/spiritual issues.. I checked IMDB for the cast list, just to see if there was anything. The film is due for release in the summer.... OH-MY-GOD! (Spoilers ahead.) The info on display is sometimes questionable, but in true Mulder and Scully style, I did a bit of digging to confirm what I'd seen. Not a bazillion years did I see this coming. There's a part of me wonderin' if the leaked teaser trailer that I saw, was in fact a clever hoax, orchestrated by Chris Carter himself. Although, it looks real enough. Billy Connolly and Xzibit are on the cast list - and Callum Keith Rennie. (The guy who played Starbuck's creepy Cylon 'husband' in the third season of the new Battlestar Galactica.) Anywho.. Talk about a fucking bizarre supporting cast! In the teaser trailer, Bily Connolly is standing in a circle of black clothed people , surrounded by snow. He's yelling something like 'it's here!' I'm assuming that he's searching for something under the snow. So.. Uh.. Yeah.. I'll let the dust settle after that bombshell. I'll say it again.. BILLY CONNOLLY?! O.o He's a comedy leg-end here in Scotland. I saw a quote on the IMBD page. There was reference to a 'Father Joe' character. I'm assuming that this is Billy Connolly's role. He's looking A LOT like Brent Spiner in 'Independence Day.' Hehehehehehehe.. Seriously though, acting roles with a religeous undertone seems to be his gig, when he's not doing stand up comedy. I'll have to wait and reserve judgement on his performance.. The idea of Billy Connolly in the X-Files universe is a little odd to me. On a more official note, I saw the first promo stills of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. When I first cast my eyes on them, I got goosebumps!! It was like looking at a long lost friend. I haven't been paying close attention to ALL things Firefly lately. Full time work and full time school tends to do that. Even so, certain music still brings it to mind, and often, certain articles of clothing and shoes... So for me this was a bit of a shock. I was in Borders Book Store for something else entirely - Astronomy Magazine. It was for a character in an RP over on StoryCrafter. Haven't been in Borders' news stand section much though so I was wandering a bit until I turned around and there it was. Serenity. Still in the Gawd-awful Parchment font (currently top of the list of Anti-fonts at my school above Myriad and Times New Roman), but on the cover of a [i][b]comic book[/i][/b]. With Mal giving me that devil-may-care grin. Zoe looking like she knows something I don't and never will. Wash being... just Wash. I'm all tingly now just thinking about it. Grabbed it, opened it, started reading, then realized my lunch hour was getting short. I did find Astronomy Magazine, and made it to check out. Then I sat in my car in the mall parking lot and read the first issue of [i]Serenity: Better Days[/i] while dining on barbecue pork bao from Big Bowl. Even if the sun hadn't been shining that day, my entire outlook got brighter by degrees. It got me to thinking about how fabulous it would be if the series were to get another chance. I could see Nathan Fillion or Adam Baldwin going to the higher-ups on Castle and Chuck, respectively, and saying something to the effect of: "Okay, so it's been fun and whatever but I gotta go. There's crime to be done."

The miniature that I just finished is a conversion of a Alpha Forge Space gang member with a machine gun pistol. A Pax Limpopo Seamus O'Toole figure and a MAC-10 from Hasslefree bits. I removed the machine gun from the Alpha Forge figure replaced it with the MAC-10. Since the Alpha Forge figures do not have attached heads, it was easy to remove the Pax Limpopo figures head, this one has a hat like Badger wears, and attached it to the Alpha Forge figure. When the figure is finished painted, it will look like some of the shady figures found down at the docks.

I've been dabbling in my artwork, after a fairly long hiatus. Digital photography tends to encompass my life a lot at the moment, but sometimes a good old fashioned pencil sketch can purge a stressed system than a digital camera. And, it seems to have done the trick. My creativity appears to be clicking into place on a lot of levels lately, and I'm grateful to find that balance once more. That feeling has been lost for a loooooong time. A lot of windows on a creative level, appear to be opening right about now. Or, it's a simple case of finally attaining the drive to push myself into broader areas. Either way, it feels good. The UK's leading sci-fi magazine, SFX, are gearing up for their annual short story competition. The contest is in its third year, and I'm determined to churn out a piece of original fic. In the past, I've always wanted to contribute, but the ideas have never flowed. The first couple of hundred words have already been typed out. My original idea for a story initially started out as a running joke, (because the example I gave in conversation, was totally ridiculous. Let's just say 'reclamation workers on the moon.') Although, that wacky concept is now something that I'm focusing on for real. The deadline for entries is the beginning of June, so I'm beavering away on that as much as possible. Anywho... SO I've just been hooked for a few short months. I had e-mailed some friends of mine that have been trying to get me to go to a Con for years, they go to them all the time. I just was never into something that much, as you can tell I am now. So I told them If they co to a Con and any of the cast from Firefly are there let me know and I will go with them. Hi all! I'm currently in the process of putting together two fan-fics, the first of which will be my first ever! The big thing I'm looking for here is constructive criticism on story development; I have a lot of experience in non-fiction writing, so grammar and punctuation and all those fun things shouldn't be an issue... but this is my first attempt at plot-based fiction where I've had to adhere to someone else's baseline. [i]Trials and Redemptions[/i] is set post-BDM, and I haven't integrated any elements from the comics since I haven't read them, although I did need to edit the ending of the movie slightly to facilitate certain plot elements. The story picks up at the cut-scene after the Operative gives the order to stand down. I tried really hard to write the opening about fifteen different ways so that I could avoid changing the ending to the movie, but it just wasn't working, so I hope all of you die-hards out there aren't too terribly offended. Right now, I have the entire plot laid out, and at least sketches of all 30 chapters, and I've left the ending open such that I could write a sequel if people like this first bit. This first bit will be PG-13 for the most part, but I'll mark the excessively violent sections NC-17, as well as any that end up going beyond just kissing. :smile: The one thing I could really use is a beta-reader or sounding-board to help me with time-line continuity and character speech, as those are the two issues which are slowing me down at the moment. It's hard to write [i]all[/i] the characters equally well at the same time and match their voices, but the good news is that I am noticing inconsistencies and odd speech patterns during re-reads, so I have been able to fix most of them. As for the continuity issue, I'm trying not to squash the story together into too short a time frame, but I'm having trouble writing filler that isn't complete sugar. I'll go ahead and warn anyone who is going to read this that my vision of River is perhaps a bit eccentric, and you may not really like her. I hate seeing her cast as a superhero in [i]every single fic[/i] I read, so I've deliberately tried to avoid that here. However, I think if you give her a chance, she'll surprise you. I've finished chapters 1 through 4, which I've posted now, as well as 12, 13, and 21, and have significant pieces of others done (5, 11, 14, 15, 19, and 20). I'll probably be posting one chapter each week as soon as I finish Chapter 5 (hopefully in the next couple days). My other piece, [i]Broken and Repaired[/i], is completely AU to the comics and the BDM. I've hit a bit of writer's block on this one, but it's definitely different than anything else I've read. SPOILER ALERT![spoiler]The main focus will be on Kaylee/River, Simon/Inara, and Mal/OC, but I had a brainstorm the other day, and we [u]might[/u] see Jayne being invited to "help" Kaylee and River.[/spoiler]This will not be PWP, as I really do have a story to tell here, but given the nature of those pairings... let's just say a good number of chapters may be NC-17. saw the doctor the other day- bp down to 150 over 82, almost a 40 point drop. Which suggests to me that either the first reading was a fluke, caused by pain, stress, or anxiety, or else this one was. The doctor even agreed- says it's too soon for diet, meds or exercise to have done that much good. Meanwhile she says that ideal B P would be 120 over 60, so I got a long ways to go, and incidentally , to lose 30 pounds. so I'm eating a better diet, mostly doing portion control, still walking, taking the meds. Doesn't seem like I'm gonna have a stroke tomorrow, which is the good news, but I'm on a lifelong treadmill, it looks like. I'm encouraged, but still not happy. Meanwhile , just saw a local college production of Midsummer Night's Dream, set in the late 60's, with music by the Beatles, mostly. Had a good time, they did a good job,it was funny, it's one of my favorite plays, and the music grabbed my by the heart- I didn't realize, really, that the Beatles could make me feel like that. Their music is good, of course, and I grew up with it, but I wasn't that big a fan back then. It sure put me in a sentimental mood the other night , tho...

Ugh.. The issue of exposure is always a tricky one. As a Deviantart addict, I've heard countless stories of people's artwork getting pinched and plastered all over the net. Also, people's images being used as promotional posters for gigs. Anywho.. Every now and then, I carry out a google search, to see if any of my work has landed on some random obscure site. Copyright is important. My sis produces her own music, and has faced problems, when her vocals or tunes have been banded around various Myspace sites without her permission. My work has never really gained much acclaim online. I've been pretty safe over the last four years, (since I began to upload stuff), tucked away in some corner of obscurity. It's a slow finger-picking song, and I've attempted to write lyrics, but was blatantly unhappy with them. As usual. I've been clinically depressed since I was like ten (I'm 18 now), and I really made things hard on myself in the last year or so. But I've have gotten better recently. I'm taking my meds every morning, I'm exercising, and I'm refraining from thinking myself numb. Sure, there are highs and lows, but I'm actually looking forward to the next day when I go to bed at night. That's a good place to be in, I think ^_^

Lately, my mind has been transfixed on this wee short story entry that I'm putting together for a sci-fi magazine. It seems that the plot and the characters consume every waking moment. Every word and sentence is under my own anal scrutiny, wonderin' if this piece of narrative is high quality. There's a part of me that thinks: 'hang on, this isn't really healthy.' Yet, the other part of me knows that it takes a lot to motivate my muse, and that deadline is creeping ever closer. (The beginning of June.) An obsessive, rigorous approach to writing is required. This is no wee trip down fan fiction lane. I want this to be high calibre, as the level of writing is always very high in previous years. (The contest is now in its third year.) Since Saturday, when I first put my ideas down on the screen, I've been struggling for a bigger idea. A secondary plotline as it were, that makes the story stand up to credibility. I've already got the premise, now I need the reason for writing it; something that makes the story memorable, and chills you to the centre of your being. For, the original notion was to lean towards my horror writing strengths. Last night, before my head hit the pillow, I had a eureka moment. I'm not going to outline what it was here, but AT LAST, it feels like a whole load has been taken off now.. :D I can't wait to finish this thing, and email it to the magazine. I feel that it is thematically strong, and lends itself to realism. I was partly inspired by a real news article, but with a lot of creative ingenuity, the plotline has thankfully taken on a life of its own. I plan to make this as unique as possible. The threat of falling into cliché is always near. Looking back to last night, simplicity was the key - not some over indulgent narrative that reads like a novel. 'True skill comes from less effort', as they say in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. :) I'm a wee bit disturbed by my own thought process. Hehe.. Seriously though, I'm glad to have some direction in my story. It's a real buzz writing something that initially started out as a joke. Also, to watch a story take shape, and come to life from scratch. Now, the 'silly notion' doesn't feel so bad. It's been cool so far. I just wanted to record the details of this writing process here..

UPPERSON

I'll be working my last day at my current job on Friday, and there has to be a farewell. The company always gives a present to the person who is leaving. Now as it happens, two of us are leaving at the same time. So we had to buy a present for this guy. It's so much easier to buy something for a girl, than for a guy. But in this case, I knew just the thing. A snake. My friend who also resigned loves snakes. So I trundle off to buy him the snake (no-one else will go) and I go pick him up the prettiest little mottled corn snake. This was on Tuesday, and the farewell is only on Friday, so the snake has to stay at my place in the meantime. Which is fine, except that I already have a pet rat, who now smells the scary (teensy-tiny) snake and is all upset. I admit, it was a little insensitive of me. The snake on the other hand is alone for the fist time in his life, and was probably cold. So I made a hot water bottle for the snake, just in case. And he wanted it too, because he went and lay against the side of the container that was against the hot water bottle. Shame, poor little one. Tomorrow will be the test... that is when I have to go and buy a pink (baby mouse) for the snake's dinner. I can't help but wonder whether he can't just stay hungry until Friday!

This idea has been goin through my head for a very long time. What if an assassin meant to hunt Mal actually fell in love with him instead? I played with it and thought about writing it, but so many love Inara and her attraction to Mal that i wondered how something like this would be accepted. Now, no spoiler here since I will not tell how it ends. After all, she has a history as a weapon. As always, thanks to everyone who had read and enjoyed this little off shoot of an already awesome tale and I hope I can do her justice. So, the odd arc phrases: "Hands of blue, two by two..." "Also, I can kill you with my mind." Those kids say the darndest things: "They took Christmas away. All the presents,the tree, and the stockings. Nothing left but coal. Can't look in the closet, either. It's greedy--not in the spirit of the season." "Hummingbird." "Your toes are in the sand." I just want to say that if Whedon thought all these up, then he is even more of an evil genius than I thought. Because on the surface, almost every single thing River says makes absolutely no sense. But looking at it from the perspective of the scene, or the end of the episode, or the end of the movie changes everything. But maybe it's like fortune cookies. They're random bits of information, but they can be applied to pretty much anything. Still, the inspiration had to come from somewhere. And the quality of writing and acting is very subtle--it's not easy writing or acting an "interesting" kind of 'crazy'. I like how River's character applies old sayings to new situations. The nursery rhymes, old fragments and the detritus of a mind slowly sweeping itself back together make me think of 1984's "Oranges and lemons/Say the bells of St. Clemens"...

A special joint section of congress had the ambitious goal of sending an America safely to the moon before the end of the decade. JFK felt pressure to have the US “Catch up and overtake” the Soviet Union in the “Space Race” (Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first human is space April 12, 1961). “This is, whether we like or not, a race. Every thing we do (in space) ought to be tied into getting to the moon ahead of the Russians.” JFK agreed to start the “Mercury” project because we had enough technology and education to develop a good first plan to space. With Rosa parks coming home to her family on a segregated bus, took a stand when a white man asked her to give up her seat. Rosa sent the message and was later arrested. Many other acts for freedom continued with Sit-ins and Freedom rides. One huge spark in the fight for civil rights was the southern university desegregation. Many Whites protested against it and dropped out of their classes. March on Washington took its toll with its leader Martin Luther king in 1963.

Hi all! Chapter 5 of Trials and Redemptions should get posted either Friday or Saturday, just putting it through some final proof-reading. Just FYI, this is also posted on FanFiction.net if you prefer reading on there, my ID is the same there as here. I was pleased to receive a few comments on the first couple chapters. For clarity's sake, I thought I would put up a general response on them. A few people have commented that Simon seems a little stiff and lacking in compassion, particularly at the funeral. I'll agree I may have gone a little extreme, but there's a good reason for this that will appear in Chapter 7. River's third-person self-reference was addressed in Chapter 4, and I did note in my first entry that my vision of River is drastically different. However, I can certainly understand why some readers found it distracting. My theory on this is that River [i]rarely[/i] refers to herself in the first person in either the series or the film, mostly because she actually rarely talks at all. She never really has a conversation with anyone, she just comments as she sees fit. After Miranda is the first occasion where she's become able to have a real conversation. I don't see it ever going away completely, and it will re-surface whenever River becomes overly stressed, but it should be more limited over the rest of the story than in the first couple chapters. I had been under the impression that Mal and/or Jayne using "Kaylee-bear" as a nickname/diminutive was fanon, but apparently that may not be the case, and a few people found it OCC/irritating. Apologies if I've inadvertently stolen this from someone who was using it exclusively. I'd agree that I can see where it might be OCC for Jayne, but IMO, it seems very like Mal. I would very much appreciate hearing more of what people have to say, good, bad, or indifferent. However, it would be nice if they could be constructive comments, much like those I have gotten already! Thank much, everybody!

Since it's a collaboration, you never know from one post to the next what's going to happen, so it's very exciting. Of course, I'm really inspired by the crew of the Book, who have taken the quality and excitement to the next level. Their characters are so three-dimensional, you really care about them and their stories. Reading their thread is like watching an adventure serial. You're always left at the edge of your seat, wondering what happens next.

The writing bug. I realised the other day that i haven't written a thing since the start of the year when i had my little breakdown. I've been on a low anti anxiety pill since but i haven't written anything. NOTHING, and i used to write all the time. Screenplay's, scripts, songs. So i'm stuck at 6 eps for my Serenity series and i really want to finish it......Not only that but my original scripts too, it's like i lost my imagination and concentration..... It's like i'm not me but i'm a little scared to go off the pills, they seemed to have really helped me in other aspects of my life. What should i do? Anyone got any opinions????

We have a new comic store just opened up in my town (finally!) and I went in to find 'Better Days'. Told ComicBookGuy I was a Browncoat, and we spent the next half an hour riffing on all things Whedon and the Big Damn 'Verse! He had a lovely big Chuck poster on the wall...if they have a Casey one, I just might have to get one for the office. Such a relief to find a place where I didn't feel weird. (If you are female and in the Mal's age bracket, people do not understand a fascination with comics, I find) Plus I should be getting vol's 1& 2 next week! I'm still not back in my office, since my house is full of plumbers and sparkies (new kitchen and central heating.) All I can do is look forward to being warm again, and having my lovely new range to play with. (Big five-burner gas hob, with one of those mid-burner wok rings, that sound like something taking off. Wheee!!) Still, I'm writing at the mo. Longhand mainly, with short bursts of typing up when I can. It's something a little different, and I'm enjoying it. here's hoping you do too.

Well, some of you might be wonder where in the hell I have been! The last log had something to do with it, but I was still planning on making an appearance now and then. This is a blog I posted on MySpace a bit back and it explains thing... "[i][b]I Am A Browncoat[/b] And I wear that title with pride! Now lots of you already know what a Browncoat is, but for those who don’t here’s a quick and simple explanation. A Browncoat is a dedicated fan of the short lived TV show created by Joss Whedon called ’Firefly’ that also was turned into a movie called ’Serenity’. This blog though is not gonna go into detail of the show or anything along those lines, but it is to make something perfectly clear... I AM A BROWNCOAT! Just recently as you all know, I’ve had a down grade in my time online. It was my own decision and I am proud that I have stepped up to my responsibilities. I have had a few people that have not been happy that my absence has made communication a lil less than usual. It’s understandable, I’d prolly be a lil pissed myself. But the one communication that left me feeling upset was a message I received from a frequenter at the Firefly fansite I am a member of. Without giving away names or going into detail, I was accused of "avoiding my responsibilities as a Browncoat" and therefore I am "not a Browncoat at all, but just a mere flighty fan that has hooked onto true fan’s coat tails"... Are you out of your mind??? Just ’cause someone doesn’t have every waking second to post on a fansite for their fav show that makes them any less of a fan? Also I was told that ’cause I haven’t been able to make it to Dragon Con I’m "a terrible example to the real Browncoats" and am "not trying hard enough to follow what it means to be a true fan"... Wow, I think someone is living in a lil fantasy world there. No, I don’t have enough money to go to Dragon Con or other Con’s to meet the cast and mingle with my fellow ’Coats. No, I don’t own every piece of memorabilia available. No, I won’t name my kids after the BDH’s. No, I don’t write endless fanfics. No, I don’t check the fansite every 5 secs to see who’s responded to my post. No, I can’t quote you every last line word for word or tell you what was displayed in exact detail on Jayne’s screen in ’Ariel’. Does this make me any less of a Browncoat? OF COURSE NOT!! A Browncoat isn’t the extent of your experience, your knowledge, your personal belongings. It’s who you are. I AM A BROWNCOAT and I’m proud to be. Who are you to tell me otherwise? Nothing, that’s what and how dare you try to put a label on who I am or am not just ’cause you think you are the all knowing authority. Take these final words to heart... GET A LIFE![/i]" Well, I am indeed going to Dragon Con this yr, so that of course has changed, but it just really disappointed me that someone could be that self centered and heartless as to take someone's difficult situation and make it worse. No, I will not reveal the name of this tactless person, they know who they are. This just made me want to stay away. Now that I'm going to D*C I decided to suck it up and reconnect with everyone. I'd like to go and see all those faces I've been dying to meet for yrs now! And no, I didn't just come back to find a roomie. If I don't I'm fine with getting my own hotel room if need be. Just thought it would be nice to get back in the 'Coat swing of things and let someone's awful words and thoughts just roll off my back. I'm better than that. So anyhoo, I'm back and kicking bottom (hehe, obscure 'Red Dwarf' quotes are awsome)! Will be nice to get back to chatting with y'all, I've missed yas!

So,someone brought this line that (River says to Jayne in 'Ariel') up on the main threads a while ago, and I can't stop thinking about it. It *does* sound so authentic that I actually looked it up as a possible fragment on a Shakespeare search page. (www.rhymezone.com) The only hits I got for copper seem to suggest something which is false, passing itself off, not "true" in quality, or loyalty, character, when it concerns people. Shakespeare was a great man (in the literary sense). Somebody should make a statue of the Bard out of English mud. And write a song. As I've said elsewhere, most notably the original thread--(go look it up,there are some cool theories)---the Jesus reference is probably intended, but somewhat modified by the copper part. I was just checking possible other inspirations since it sounded so literary. For a more outright reference in this (ore) vein, check the Movie where Mr. Universe is "paid" by the Operative. I think he said something like "Where's my 30 coin?".

Good news, we got my wife's car wind sheild replaced. Bad news- My work has changed my days off. Good news- We got an insurace check for repairs to our old house. Bad news- due to work poltics there is a change of personnel at work. Good news - Got refund check from bank on over pay of new house. Bad News- Person in change of my shift at work is not well like by everyone on that shift. Many feel he is a big Gou tsao de and the rest I do not use those types of words. Good news - Now since they changed my days off, I have five days off.

Kennedy entered the political arena at a time of great unrest. The United States was in a state of turmoil, tor n by racial and civil injustice. In 1955, Rosa Parks refused to forfeit her seat to a white man on a public bus, setting into motion the Montgomery Bus Boycott, which brought national attention to the growing problem of racial segregation. The boycott was led by Martin Luther King Jr., who became the icon of the civil rights movement. Also, that same year, African-American teenager Emmett Till was killed for whistling at a white woman. This tragedy illustrated the intense prejudice still felt by many white extremists at the time. Five years later, in 1960, peaceful protests, such as sit-ins, began. Sit-ins were a form of protest where both African-Americans and their white supporters refused to leave establishments that only served white patrons. Their actions were met with violence and ridicule, like most of the protests, but they did not back down from their cause. Neither did Kennedy during his presidency, whose support of the civil rights movement was met with both praise and opposition. While Kennedy sustained a loss of support from more conservative voters, he gained something that was indeed the key to his success: the African-American vote. When Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) was arrested for leading a civil rights protest in Georgia, Kennedy secured his prison release. Consequently, this earned him the backing of Martin Luther King Sr., father of MLK, and thus the black vote, supplying him the winning margin in five Northern states. Kennedy’s radical ideas did not only pertain to civil rights. His policies regarding Cuba were equally controversial.

The United States has always enjoyed its isolation from the continents of Europe and Asia, with an ocean between America and the chaos of war. However, Cuba was a mere 100 miles off the coast of Florida, and too close for comfort. Soviet leader Khrushchev had aligned himself with Cuban Communist leader Castro, planting nuclear weapons in his country aimed at the U.S. This worried Kennedy, who sought a diplomatic solution, encouraging Cuba to sever ties with the Soviet Union. Additionally, Kennedy wanted to extinguish Communist practices in Cuba, which had led to oppressive and inhumane conditions for the people. Many believe that his ideas regarding Cuba and Communism led to his assassination three years later. On November 22, 1963, shots were fired, shattering the nation’s hope. Tragedy struck when John F. Kennedy was assassinated before 250, 000 witnesses on his way to the Dallas airport by way of motorcade. As he drove past Dealey Plaza, waving to the crowd, a man named Lee Harvey Oswald shot him in the head and neck, injuries which resulted in his death 35 minutes later. Immediately after the death of Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson was flown to Washington, where he took the oath to become the 36th president. Once again, as it had influenced the election, the presence of the media and television played an important role in communicating to the American people. However, to this day, no one is sure exactly why JFK was assassinated. There are many theories as to the motives behind Kennedy’s death. One prominent idea is that Oswald was part of a pro-Communist group against Kennedy’s strategies regarding Cuba, especially because of where he had lived. Oswald was a U.S. marine for a few years, but at age 19, he emigrated to Russia, living there for several years before returning to the U.S., eventually residing in Dallas, Texas. On the other hand, some believe that Kennedy’s non-violent actions in the Cuban Missile Crisis angered anti-Castro groups, and they wished to have him killed. Another idea suggests that since JFK wanted to stop aiding South Vietnam and cease U.S. involvement with the Vietnam War, people in favor of Vietnamese involvement were behind his assassination. Other conspiracy theories include a CIA plot, and even Mafia involvement, but Kennedy’s stance in all of these guesses only illustrates that he was a peacekeeper, not only for the U.S., but for the entire world.

John F. Kennedy entered the public eye at a time where change was needed more than anything, and he brought forth a new way of looking at the world: through peace. Although Kennedy realized that it is important to learn from the past, he was a visionary who also tapped into the dire need for moving forward in a new direction. Unfortunately, people do not readily accept change, instead they cling to what’s familiar, even if it’s not what’s best. Since the dawn of time, history can show us that people who bring change are martyred, persecuted, and oppressed. Take for example Jesus, Gandhi, MLK, or JFK. Jesus fought to liberate people from Roman rule and oppression, showing them that they had within themselves the power to decide their future. Gandhi led peaceful protests against British imperialism in order to help bring better lives for the citizens of India. Martin Luther King Jr. was a man who had faith in humanity to rise above the dehumanizing racial intolerance that surrounded him. Each of these men worked ceaselessly to illuminate love and shine light on the darkness of hate. Each of these men transcended the close-mindedness and mediocrity of society, and in turn were met with violence. The ignorant use violence and aggression when faced with change, hence the assassination of so many great minds. It takes a truly enlightened person to see that violence does not equal power or strength, that diplomacy and peace do not equal weakness. John F. Kennedy was leagues ahead of his time, and could see the peace is the answer. Just like Abraham Lincoln, JFK fought for civil rights, and they both gave their lives for their cause. Today, as we head towards the November presidential election, we invite a new opportunity for growth, change, and global reformation. In fact, many comparisons can be drawn between presidential hopeful Barack Obama and John F. Kennedy. As the first black man to represent the Democratic party in a U.S. presidential election, Obama is the very picture of change. Like Kennedy, he projects progressive and different ideals, bringing forth messages of peace and diplomacy, as well as something even more important: hope. Hope is like the lighthouse that can guide our country through the stormy, violent sea that is war and destruction. Hope can pick up the pieces of a divided country and join them together as one, and right now, hope is what our country lacks the most. Kennedy brought the United States great change and a new way of thinking, and perhaps it is time for our new president to do the same. After all, nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change.

Well we got the insurance check to fix the old house but their was a promble with it. First it was not signed by anyone at the insurance company. Got that taken care of but then one of the names on the check outside of mine was a bank that no one had heard of before. I called the mortgage company about it, they said they never heard of it either. So I had to go back to the insurance comapny and get a new check reissused to me. I spent most of the day driving around my city getting the check signed and reissused. What a waste of time. I hope that I do not have this much trouble with my wife's car.
