Brenda: The tailgating scene from it being part of the movie. Just reminded me of other tailgating scenes in other movies. You know where the car is coming up behind then the first driver goes to wave him by. Then they either go by and stop or they bang into the other car's rear bumper. So, not much. 6ixStringJack: Wasn't as creepy as I remember, huh? Probably because we got about 30 years of content pushing boundaries since that was released and what used to be creepy just isn't all that creepy anymore, huh? I remember that bit being in the commercial (something about him talking to himself who was already somewhere else or something), and I remember me and my younger bro being creeped out. I didn't think you'd find Lost Highway to be really scary though, probably Late Night With The Devil scary at most, which wasn't much. It's just Lynchian, meaning you probably didn't get it because nobody but Lynch gets it.

Brenda: It started with a message through the house intercom and then just went on from there. The phone call at that party with Robert Blake was strange and got me wondering who his character was. Not to mention the white face. The only feeling I got was weird and useless cops.

6ixStringJack: Yeah. I've only seen Lost Highway maybe twice. I don't remember much. Something about a phone call that was bone chilling at one point maybe? I know I remember way more about the "feelings" I recall of Lynch films than the actual plot.

Brenda: Oh, I've been watching Lost Highway. Not scary but it is heavy on the weird for sure. Feels like I'm watching something that was put together by someone who can't hold a single coherent thought in their head. Writing feels that way too. Good thing for the close captioning because I can't really hear a word the actors are saying. Still trying to figure out if Robert Blake is the devil or a demon because I know his character is up to no good. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 08.11 09:49

Brenda: Oh, yeah the faces and characters. They were all so good and funny. I remember this one skit where he was a vampire at the end and was just about to bite this young woman on the neck when he saw an old lady coming after. He said something to the camera then everything sped up and the sax. End of episode.

Brenda: Don't think I could get my mum to watch it as I recall. My friend and I were watching it when we were in high school so we knew how "raunchy" the jokes were and some of the skits.

6ixStringJack: I think it's possible I never saw an episode of Benny Hill after I was maybe 6 or 7 years old, but I remember it being on a lot when I was a little kid. I'd just laugh at all of his goofy faces and characters, and always looked forward to that Yakity Sax song and everyone being sped up at the end.

Brenda: Not sure if I ever watched after the first time you mentioned it or not. Library has a copy but it is out. I knew someone a guy who loved Monty Python but just no. John Cleese in other stuff is fine. He had a bit part in Silverado, a western which was the first thing I saw Kevin Costner in. You most likely right that most of Python's audiences were men. I'm not saying that I haven't seen some of the skits and didn't think they were funny. The Twit skit was funny and the parrot one was funny too. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 08.10 10:22

Yeah. Monty Python is real iffy. I've known nobody I showed them to that was in between. They either loved it or they hated it... almost instantly in the latter case. I think, in the case of men, it depends how open minded they are especially to British humor that determines if they stick around long enough to like it. I don't really think it was made with women in mind though. I know they had female fans, but I would guess the entire time they were on TV and in the movies their audience skewed pretty heavily male. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 08.10 09:37

6ixStringJack: Terrorists were trying to kill her because they said that the work she did was the devil's work and that she was ripping the fabric of society apart. It's a real mindscrew of a flick. It was only in the theater one week. My buddy happened to rent it once on a fluke and it was awesome. Nah though. eXistenZ is nothing like that. It's got Jude Law and he's in charge of protecting Jennifer Jason Leigh, who is a genius computer programmer in some alternate (already past) future that had computers that were part organic and capable of a 100% realistic virtual reality (definately good for the budget for sure).

6ixStringJack: Like I said, I can't really give high recommendations for any of those movies I talked about today to anyone. They're about as hit or miss as Monty Python is to non-UK audiences. 6ixStringJack: I love the movies that you can get so lost in that you realize when you woke up at the end of the movie you came out on a different side. Most of the time in these movies it's because you got lost in the general concepts, but eXistenZ actually puts a more tangible feel on it. Since they're playing "Virtual Reality" that is indistinguishable from real reality (outside of your occasional very poorly programmed characters), it was easy to get lost once they went into another game while they were already inside of the first one, though on your first watch you probably don't even consider that because it's not something the movie forces you to think about until the very end. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 08.09 06:08

6ixStringJack: If you're not going to watch that one, you at least have to see the Tailgating scene from it on YouTube. It's one of my favorite scenes in any movie ever, and that's because Tailgating is my number one pet peeve when I'm out driving.

Brenda: I heard about Lynch complaining about the studio meddling in the film and the editing. You can get the extended version which includes a piece that wasn't in the theatre release. I've seen both and with added piece that section of the movie makes much more sense. It's the scene were Paul's little sister kills their maternal grandfather the Baron. That is in the book but left out of the theatrical release. Probably considered too graphic but that was the point of the scene. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 08.09 03:28

6ixStringJack: You're not going to figure out either of them on first watch, and chances are you wouldn't figure them out after a dozen watches too. 6ixStringJack: I was going to say I only did that because I liked the movie, but then I thought about how much I hated The Witch when I watched that with my brother and I watched a lot of retrospectives on that and without even watching it again I have a new appreciation for it. Half of my problems with that movie turned out to be how much dialog I missed with those thick accents and the fact I couldn't get subtitles working.
