6ixStringJack: And I like Nicole Kidman. She's great. But that '00 version she was in was just so damn hollywooded up I was halfway tuned out the whole time I watched it. It came out right around the same time that Stephen King's The Mist (directed by Frank Darabount who directed The Walking Dead, Shawshank Redemption and the Green Mile) and was just so similar yet so inferior to that movie

6ixStringJack: The problem with the 90's version though is that it's just sooooooo low key and slow paced and boring for most of the flick. Probably only a 12 year old boy with a hard crush on one of the leads could sit through that. I don't even know if I could watch it again now without kind of half-doing other stuff until about halfway through the movie if I watched it again today.

6ixStringJack: I really like the 90's (not 80's) version though. That might be my bias speaking though because I had it BAD for ole Girl. She was awesome in Burn Notice years later too. What's her name... that's it. Had to look it up. Gabriel Anwar. But the Jennifer Tilly scene in that movie is the best part. She stole the whole damn movie from everyone else involved in just 60 seconds.

6ixStringJack: I have always liked but never LOVED the Body Snatchers IP. It's nearly everything that The Thing IS, but it just comes up short every time for some reason. The Sutherland version is by far the best IMO though. I'd put the 50's/60's(?) version in 2nd place, 80's "Body Snatchers" in 3rd place, and 00's "The Invasion" with Nicole Kidman far in last place.

6ixStringJack: I liked Vampires too, but didn't see it until years after the first time I should have. I'm sure I posted the story about it being the only movie I ever walked out of because my girlfriend's friend came along and we got high and that whole first scene had them both freaking out and wanting to leave. Man.... She had to make that one up to me. James woods, John Carpenter, Vampires when they were still cool, that kick-ass intro scene. I was so salty. I should have gone back with a friend to see it in the theater.

I remember my old man watching that with me and my brother but he let us know going into it that there was a scene at the very end that he was going to turn it off before it happened. I wonder if he would have done that if my folks were still married. I think he was afraid of giving my mom ammo for court because kids are stupid big mouths. 6ixStringJack: I don't think the scene wouldn't have been scary if that movie wasn't so low-key paranoia leading up to the chaos at the end. But it came in at just the right time, and at that point of the movie you're locked into the "The Bodysnatchers / The Thing" style paranoia of who is even real anymore at that point.

6ixStringJack: Last time I can say that a movie or a particular part of a movie geniunely scared me was the first time I watched the 70's version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers and that gorram dog with the human face came up to him. 6ixStringJack: That being said, I know Lovecraft ain't down with Lovecraft too. He's a terribly boring read like Tolkien with that oldschool prose, but I've always been fascinated by the Lovecraftian "Mythos". Though they've been able to put his stories inside newer video games, which are interactive, to great effect, nobody has ever made a good movie based off his work (Dagon probably being the only exception, but still not a great flick).
