No awareness of nuance, and no awareness that people back then were individuals just as we're individuals today, and just lumping all the old dead people in buckets and framing a story around those buckets when none of them are alive to defend their own character or honor or that of their own family just don't seem very right or fair to me is all. Everybody is just so quick to paint somebody else as the devil these days. I think we've forgotten history and we've regressed. 20-30 years from now there's going to be Witch Trials again if these goofballs don't all smoke a little weed and chillax.

6ixStringJack: I can't honestly answer that question one way or the other for sure. But my gut tells me that trying to erase the past is not the right way to go about it. Most of us are probably to blame for it ourselves too. We don't really seem to care much about the past outside of the few who really are called to learning about History and making that their life. I want to care more than I do. I want everyone as a whole to care a lot more about the past than they do. 6ixStringJack: Made me think of a movie you'd probably like too if you haven't seen it. You ever see "Ghost World"? It's got Steve Bucemi, Scarlet Johanson and I think it was the daughter on American Beauty, but I don't remember her name right now. That's a smart movie, even though nothing really of consequence actually happens, it makes you think. We've whitewashed a lot of fairly recent history, and how people in general and in groups behaved and what they did and thought... whether it's written words or local artwork and advertisements and pretty much anything that would have given implications and context of the time as well as allowed for inferences of people today going back and seeing this stuff. Over time, somebody took most of it away from us. I guess the question is, is that for the better or for the worse for all of us if you bury the past completely and pretend the past wasn't important or didn't even exist in the first place? - http://www.fireflyfans.net 08.22 07:40

6ixStringJack: But yeah. That was OG Ghost Rider. I thought they brought him back in the 90's, but it was actually in the early 80's I read the other day. Maybe it was '82? Probably gave him a decade or 15 years off in between and brought him back as a dark and scary skeleton man with his head on fire on a motorcycle because it's 1982 and motorcycles kick ass! By that time, I'm sure pretty much everybody forgot about Possibly-Klanny OG Grandpappy Ghost Rider without no internet to remind 'em.

6ixStringJack: But when our old man gave us some of his old comics for Christmas every year out of his big pile of stuff that wasn't worth nothin', we just loved how awesome everything looked. And how those comics that were well read and not taken care of had that old musty comic book smell to them. And how he had a range of books from WWII propaganda like "Our Army At War!", to cowboy Ghost Rider, to my favorites like The Vault of Horror and Weird Science / Weird Fantasy. Those were all in terrible shape and stuff he got from other kids who just had them as hand me downs when their older brothers left home without em I guess. So it's funny to see the old Ghost Rider today and almost cringe a bit thinking "Yeah. I don't see that flying in the 2020's.".

Brenda: The one convention I went too was selling comics least I don't think they had anyone. It was sci-fi one. I picked up some Star Trek pins and Blake's 7 pin and a couple of buttons from Blakes 7. Think it was held in a hotel. I was much older than you. Like in my 20s. 6ixStringJack: Oh... I got a few Ghost Rider comics from way back in the day. Arguably cooler than what most people know Ghost Rider as today, and it was weird seeing the 90's change take place when I was one of the very few people who knew what he originally looked like before they gave him a revival. 6ixStringJack: Yeah... I went to a huge Comic convention with my friend and his dad at the McCormick Center. I just looked it up and it's 2.6 MILLION square feet. I don't remember if they had all 4 parts for the comics that day, but I know it was more than one in use, so they were using at least 1.3 Million square feet for the show if they were just using half of it. Entirely full of tables selling comics and baseball cards and other trading cards and toys. It was like paradise for an 11 year old nerd. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 08.21 11:05

6ixStringJack: Yeah. With that superman it's so weird how having no front or back cover takes it from being one of the most valuable comics ever printed to literally worthless. My #1 Guardian's of the Galaxy I bought in a $0.25 bargain bin when I was a kid is worth like $20 today and more than that Superman #1.

6ixStringJack: The stamp thing is funny. All the old ma and pa shops would get the comics in bundles and the top and bottom ones would get those stamps on them. I'm surprised that the comics only get -.1 point for them.

6ixStringJack: Well... I got the Iron Man comics. Got some other cool things too, but nothing else really worth a huge mention. Some real early Jack Kirby stuff in pretty decent shape, like New Gods. Some really weird early DC stuff like "Brother Power, The Geek!" and "Bamba! The Jungle Boy!"

Brenda: Yeah, I've seen comics that were turned in over the years to comic stores with stamps on them. Nobody back in the day thought they would be worth anything. My comics ran from the middle 70s from just before my dad died until I was in my 20s. I started with some kids comics then moved into a sci-fi one. Brenda: I'll have to see if I can find it on YouTube. My library doesn't do loans of DVDs from library to another. Books yes but not those. If I saw an Inferior Five and I am fair certain I have it would have been later than 72, probably in the 80s when I was in high school. That's great that you've got those Six.

6ixStringJack: I wish my old man did pay to have those all graded back in the day. You used to be able to go to any of the comic cons back when they were nothing but wall-to-wall warehouses full of 40 year old virgins and the CGC would be there and would grade your comics on the spot for a relatively cheap price. Now you have to ship it to them, and they will charge you 10% of whatever the current agreed upon price of the comic is worth at that condition. 6ixStringJack: I actually have Superman #1 too, which was a Christmas present from my dad many, many, many moons ago. But it's worthless becuase there is no front or back cover. 6ixStringJack: He's got 2 copies of X-Men #1 in NM condition too. He's got Spider-Man #1 too, but that's in pretty rough shape since he bought it off some other kid in grade school for .30 cents... my old man started collecting after that issue came out, sadly. I've seen them, but I don't think I'll ever have either of those since there's so much other family that would be getting those first. 6ixStringJack: [go to link] actually have 2 of them, but the 2nd one he gave me has a stamp on it, which automatically lowers the rating by .1. It's still in the same shape otherwise. They haven't been officially graded, but my old man took great care with his stuff and they've all been backed with cardboard and bagged since the 60s, and he's swapped out all the backing boards several time over the years. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 08.21 07:18

6ixStringJack: Well if you see JJ around anywhere, give it a watch. 2nd season wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. The 1st season was really good though and since you like Tennant you really should watch it. He's in the 2nd season too, but so little it hardly matters. I don't want to give you any spoilers, so I won't say anything more about it. The Inferior Five was back in 1972, so you probably didn't see that unless you saw it being sold at a comic shop behind the counter. I've got a lot of cool old comics from the old man over the years. My prize, which I have hidden "off campus" in an undisclosed location is a 9.6 to 9.7 grade Iron Man #1.

Brenda: Oh, I could probably still pass for someone in their 40s. And even some of the people around the senior's centre where I play mah jong have asked me how old I am. I don't count sun but then I love nothing more than to sit out in the sun or at least a warm spot. 6ixStringJack: Yeah. Figured that you'd look young for your age. I got that a lot in my youth, but not so much these days. Still built well, but I've probably seen a bit more sun in my youth than I should have and you know I'd be lying if I said some of the other bad decisions I made haven't shown their age over the years. I don't look old for my age and still look younger than most of my friends if we aren't comparing teeth, but nobody's going to be confusing me with a 30-something anymore.

6ixStringJack: Buffy probably isn't a great movie, but I think you'd probably get something out of it if you liked the show. If nothing else, you'd see the the roots of where the show came from. I'm going to guess that movie Buffy was a lot more rough around the edges and tough from the beginning than TV show buffy was, at least in the beginning. That's a bummer. lol at the Miami Vice comics. My old man has given me some pretty weird ones over the years. Got a few issues of a DC parody comic called The Inferior 5, which was a direct dig at the Fantastic 4.

I deal with enough idiots in real life, don't want to stress myself out here. The looking younger than my age has been happening since I was in my late 20s or early 30s. First time it happened was in a small food court in a strip mall that I used to take my mom to. We were having coffee and maybe something to eat. There was a nice family running the hamburger place and I could the wife looking at me. She called her husband over and told him to ask me how old I was. He said, "Please don't get mad at me but my wife wants to know how old you are?" I was into my early 30s then and I told him, he told his wife. She came over to me and looked at me then said, "No, is not possible. No, no."
