Feedback is like Christmas morning. Please do it to me, Baby.

Gratitude galore to jing zi Betas including Jacqui, Belasera and Venamoon. I have been blessed by their knowledge and suggestions. Any and all existing errors are purely due to my own stubbornness.

Disclaimer: I don’t own nothin’ to do with Firefly. Joss is omniscient and his is the head from which my idols sprang, fully grown, muscles-flexin’. I just make them strike a pose and vogue some. God, I'm scared since this is my first fic. Wonder if Joss ever feels these jitters...

The Measure of a Jayne

Preface:

There’d been thoughts. No reason to say any different. Thoughts sprung from the way she smells, hot sweat, engine grease all girl moist. The way she walks, rolling ship in a gale hips all unconscious grace. Kaylee was, Kaylee is…all things Woman heat to Jayne.

He’s been from the corest of the worlds to the blackest black and put tab A into slot B (or into C or D) at a lot of stops in between so it ain’t as if he’s had trifling few to compare her to. But the softness, the Woman that the merc sees on the outside of this girl and on the inside too calls to the hardness of the man.

He’s afeared that… no, he knows the winsome mechanic’s always leaned toward the doc with the purty mouth, but that man’s leanin’s were all toward doctorin’ his crazy brain sister. Avoiding playin’ doctor with a more than willing lil’ Kaylee was something Serenity’s resident physician was too shee-niou stupid to realize weren’t no kind of smart. But Jayne. Jayne’s got a fever, one the doctor don’t have no meds for.

And the only prescription is more Kaylee.

Present day:

He’s gotta have him some Kaylee, can’t let nothing stop him and that surely means puzzling out gorram fecking soon how to get her to see how a muscley henchman is a remedy she has a like-need for. How he’s gonna do that while simultaneously bandaged and bleeding and too slowly recoverin’ in his least favorite ship environs (the medlab), well,

Time for the sunshine Wash...are you ready??? You've been way too kind w/me so let me break this down for you now...
Your voice in this is original...I don't believe for a second that this was your first writing, maybe your first writing here on FF, but not your first writing...there's no way someone can just whip up something like this in their head and then swear up and down they don't write...it's just not feasible...your wording in here was terrific as was your ear and telling of the characters themselves such as what Kaylee thinks about Jayne and vice versa...Your first writing, huh? Please...more like your step back into famalier waters where you already know how to swim...
"Pretty cunning, don't cha' think?"

ItsaWash, can't believe this is your first fanfic! I like that you were consistent with your Jayne vernacular throughout. Your first installment is a complete story on its own. Best of luck with the rest. You might check "muscley"for a typo. I'm not sure, but I'd leave out the e.

Well done for your first fic here.

I'm not a big Jaylee fan, but I must say you've done a good job making it believable to a nonbeliever. I like Kaylee's voice in this story. Good job.

When's the next chapter?

Shiny stuff, nipnip and cowgirl, and I 'preciate it mightily. Never thought a lifetime of merely writing long letters home would help a girl write some raunch.

*ItsaWash takes a deep breath and exhales...* Vinci. Vidi. Vici.
get the picture? Nuff said....

oh, you'd be surprised what helps a girl write raunch...*wink wink grin*

kinkily shiny...i likes!!! an' not just 'cause jayne's in it

This almost had the feel of a pretty graphic bit of Jayne dreaming and wish fulfillment rolled into one. Funny, my favourite bit was the comment about RoboJayne. Ali D :~)
You can't take the sky from me

Shiny! Pretty good for a first try. I'd love to see the rest

I really hope to find your stuff in the Sci-Fi/erotica section at Barnes and Noble some day....

Ooooooo! Call me an erotica author again. I like that sound of that! (Thanks Anasazi, and everybody else. For reading, and for the kind reviews.)

There is a narrative flow problem in one place, between Jayne's remembering passing out on the planet after being found, and him waking up in the medlab. The way it's stated, it sounds like the waking up is still part of the remembering ("next time Jayne was aware of time, he was back on the boat..."). There needs to be some sort of signifyer that we're back in present time. Other than that, pretty good. :D

Yeah, narrative flow problems are a tough one, especially for a writer as green as me. I went back to that part after I read your note but since I still like it as is and couldn't stand to see it different, left it that way. Ah well. Maybe experience will improve me.

LOVE the writing, the clever turn of phrase, the use of "MORE COWBELL" reference...it's great. Even unconscious Jayne has the perfect Jayne personality, and Kaylee is just as adorable as always...you really captured the characters. Great fic! I'm off to read the other installments...^_^

An excellent piece of story telling! I agree w/ Princessnipnip. It doesn't read like your first fan fic.

I loved the insight into both Jayne and Kaylee's mind.

There were a lot of nice touches too. ('RoboJayne' and 'full-on happy crappy hallucination mode' brought a smile to my face.)

Also:

'T’aint right, the head-kicking, anybody’d havta agree.' Well, the bullet he figured he deserved, smiling wryly, but the beating they’d dealt him afterward oughta be pictured in a ‘cyclopedia somewhere next to the phrase, “Adding insult to injury.” :)

Supershiny work ItsaWash! Well done!

Awwwww! Cos, you make me go all-over warm and tingly. All the rest of you too, of course. Cos, don't you just love it when feedbackers comment on specific parts of your story?

ItsaWash does the "Snoopy with food bowl at dinner time" dance, adding an elaborate prolonged twirl so her hair wafts out almost horizontal.

Very well written...That being said, I'm reading it cause I promised...Not a Jaylee fan, sorry...sorry. Beautifully phrased though. And, you seem to have down what I can't do in a fanfic, which is use that mandarin...I just can't seem to make it fit! Were I you, I would be proud...

Im impressed. Really. I only had a small idea oh what to expect, being the naughty bits. I enjoied it though. You have a brilliant mind for the vernacular and are verbose with your descriptive text. I've been a big fan of both the characters, and Im glad to see someone else noticing the subtle connection that remained unspoken. I cant wait to move onto the next one, Im starting to think I should be at home... alone... when I read these. Here is hoping my comments fall to well and eager ears.

Washie!

To do this justice, I almost have to post every line! But alas, here are a couple of favs!

"Kaylee’s being there was like the cavalry to Simon; it allowed the doc to go for awhile, his every thought worrying after River since he’d unforgivably neglected her care for Jayne’s. With barely a word to Serenity’s resident engineer, he hurried out the door and away toward the faint sound of River’s laughing girlish songs.!"

You capture Simon's concern to the letter!

"What in the tyen shuh duh was she doing, first clinically categorizing Jayne’s manhood and now figurin’ on touchin’ besides lookin’? She belonged heart and soul to Simon. Well, okay, her crucial “body” wasn’t wrapped up in that equation of belonging yet, but certainly not due to any lack of pinin’ and tryin’ on her part"

Typical Mechanical aptitude of Kaylee! wonderful!

As I've told you before Washie, you are an inspiration, and a wonderful writer. You do such a beautiful job of capturing Jayne, and Kaylee in this, not to mention Simon.

You're my top read!

Wash....ok, i'm hooked. Thought getting Wash Struck was a once-in-a-lifetime event, but now I know it was simply a pre-amble to your fic! Looking forward to being struck again and again and again, till there's a smoking crater where my chair used to be! Keep those creative FLUIDS flowing *evil smile*
