INT. RUN-DOWN COTTAGE

Pan around what appears to be the central room of a well-kept but fairly poor cottage. In one corner stands a hand-made Wing Chun wooden dummy. A few feet away hangs a well-worn, patched-up heavy bag. On a window sill rest several Bonzai trees of various dimensions. We see a kitchen in one corner with centuries-old appliances.

A faint clicking sound can be heard, rhythm-less in nature.

CU of clean, calloused hands, one holding a pair of precise clippers, the other caressing a meticulously shaped Bonzai tree. The clippers move carefully, snipping off a minute portion of the tree.

CU of Bonzai tree, slow clockwise pan. The tree is perfect in its imperfection.

CU of Right Ear, head tilts a fraction. We hear the slightest of noises in the otherwise silent home. A hint of a rumble.

CU of Hands. The clippers are carefully laid down and the Bonzai tree is carried like a new-born child to the sill. A nearby spray bottle is picked up and the trees are lightly misted.

EXT. RUN-DOWN COTTAGE

CU lower third of door to same house. It opens and a pair of worn-out soft leather boots step out. The door closes softly and the boots exit to left of frame.

OVERHEAD VIEW of small town. Run-down cottage rests on the outskirts, separated by over 100 feet.

The man is visible, though his face is too far away to focus on.

CU of boots as they start to run away from town.

Man's POV angle up to see slight silhouette of ship breaking clouds.

Serenity's atmo thrusters shift position to slow its descent. Landing area is still miles away.

Man's body runs directly away from us, toward a hilly horizon where Serenity will apparently land.

Who is this guy? Why would he just drop everything and run for Serenity?

I love the mystery you've got in this ditty bit.

I hereby request more.

Nice setup to introduce, and makes one want to read on. So...write on, and we'll read on. :)

Funny, my first reaction to the story title was it had to be a Jayne-fic. I liked how visual the opening sequence is and wonder what it will mean for our crew. I had the oddest feeling that the man heading for Serenity was an ex-Browncoat... Ali D :~)
You can't take the sky from me
