Blue Sun Room FICTION - ADVENTURE

Nothing Ventured... - Ch. 4

Thursday, January 26, 2012

A continuation of a screenplay I started many years ago, taking place shortly after "A Mighty Thorn In a Mighty Paw."

I can't believe how long it's been since I worked on this little endeavor. I hope there are still a few Browncoats out there interested in my work.

And if anyone can help me with the formatting, that would be great. My shortcuts no longer work, I see...

EXT. TOWN - STREET

Mal strides down the street, squinting into the distance to see Maxine’s sign.

OS - a cheer rises from a couple blocks away. Mal cocks his head for a beat, continues walking.

EXT. TOWN - STREET

Troop #1 lies at Paul’s feet, unconscious. The crowd cheers again. Paul looks slowly around, sees the smiling faces of his crew-mates. He gives them a single nod, then disappears into the crowd’s open arms. Simon, Kaylee, Inara, and River are then engulfed by the happy throng.

SIMON - (to Inara) Now what?

INARA - I suppose we could enjoy their hospitality for a brief span...

Kaylee opens her mouth to speak, only to be nearly smothered by a group of young women. Their jubilation is evident. Kaylee stands on her toes to speak over their heads.

KAYLEE - Is this what it feels like to be all heroical?

Simon stays close to River in spite of the crowd.

SIMON - I suppose so. I really wouldn’t know.

The Large Man steps up in front of the group. He raises both hands in a quieting gesture and the din dies down.

LARGE MAN - As you can see, you are welcome as the angels here. (a brief cheer of agreement arises from the crowd) If we’da known you were comin’, we could’ve prepared a proper welcome.

Simon puts an arm around River. Kaylee steps up beside him, putting an arm around his waist and a hand on his shoulder.

Shiny. Glad to have you back, HWKA. Nice to see the crew treated like heroes once in a while, although it does kind of go against the "keeping a low profile" thing. It's been soooo long, that I really need to go back and refresh -- I can't remember what happened before in your story line. (Sorry!) Would you care to maybe a post a reminder of where we were? Maybe in your blog or something. A few chapters of Nothing Ventured is no problem to catch up on, but I don't recall much of what happened in A Mighty Thorn except that Paul is your martial arts OC. I would really appreciate it if you did. :-) Meanwhile, it's great to know that you have more of this story to post, and I look forward to reading it.

I'll do that, Ebfiddler, thanks! I mentioned "A Mighty Thorn" in the Prelude there, but it's been so long since I posted, I think the "Regulars" have really evolved around here! Thanks very much for the positive feedback.
