Won concert tickets on the radio the other day. It was cool. Watched Safe, Jaynestown, Ariel and Out of Gas that evening - that was almost better. I'm so happy to heat Zoic is going to work on Serenity, taht's just awesome. Everyone contributed to make it what it was, having those same talented people back on the job is all good!! I uploaded two art bits to the blue sun room. One is my pretty Mal blend. Nathan is SO pretty. *SIGH* I also posted that horrible Mal and Me fantasy doll thing. Ugh. I'm so sad. It's me with my hair red, not like it is now, all brown. Yeah, dealing with a little crush here, I guess. Can you blame me? That's all. Nothing more exciting to say right now.

Well, folks. It finally happened. As of May 1, 2004, my job is now being done by someone in India. I am torn as to how I feel about this. On one hand, no more nights, so I am happy about that. But on the other, it was a job. Not a bad job, but a job. Now that I am without, I dont know whether to be happy or upset. Thanks to whatever god there might be that my Wife-to-Be is very supportive. I think its time to find a job at the county or city level. At least those jobs dont go overseas. As I was filling out unemployment insurance stuff online today, I realized that my past 3 jobs have been taken away and moved to India or Canada. And the one job that was moved to Canada was shortly thereafter moved to India, so I count it as still going to India. My life in tech is slowly beginning to have me worried about life in these United States. Since Clinton signed NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) life for the American worker has been stressed. Who ever thought that the Little Gnome with the big ears could be right. Then again, even a broken clock is right twice a day. Also, in the Not-Quite-Great-But-Still-Better-Than-MostState of Idaho, we have what is called a Right to Work state. Very against unions. There are no union shops here. Oh, there are Unions, but they are very weak. While normally that can be a good thing, it also keeps out companies like Boeing and NASA and any contractors associated with those companies. So, there we have it. I am offically unemployed. Well, I guess it will allow me to spend more time here... like my night job didnt?!? So if any Browncoat knows of a techie job in the Boise, Idaho area... It was fun while it lasted... DeckRoid

But if it hasn't: I was watching Serenity and when Inara lands her shuttle on Serenity in the beginning-ish part of the show, in the back ground, I'm pretty sure thats the ship from Star Wars. Well, I converted my brother yesterday. And he doesn't trust me to know good TV, even though I only like good TV, not that reality gose. Anyway, I did it by putting it on in the living room, pretending it was just so I could watch it, and I set the DVD onto 'Serenity'. Paused it at the start, and when he came in, I quickly pressed 'Play', knowing he would like the start as he is a fan of explosions. So he sat down at that, to watch, and didn't get up for the next two hours, requesting 'The Train Job' immediately after 'Serenity'. And he totally thought it would be bad before I put it on, because he knows I like 'Angel', and he doesn't like any of that supernatural stuff, so he thought 'Firefly' would be like that. But he liked it! He really really liked it! Hopefully he will want to see 'Bushwhacked' later on today. Now, to convert more non-browncoats, away!

This woman just called me to do a survey about the major TV networks. So of course, I was happy to comply. She kept saying "cool" and repeating everything I said like I was 8 or something, and I didn't really understand her scoring system. But the first network she asked about was - that's right - good ol' Fox. The only other network she asked about was the WB. I don't know how much good it will do, but at least I got to express the Fox angst to someone who can pass it along to the higher-ups. I made sure ot tell her that I watch a lot of TV and none of it is on Fox.

i've got 2 things to say. one's a possibly new editing goof, and the other has to do with a long standing one. first the possibly new one. at the beginning of Our Mrs Reynolds, when jayne and mal are in the wagon... right as they draw their guns, surprising the hooligans, the pretty floral bonnet disappears for an instant. it starts as a close-up on mal as he's speaking, and then he starts drawing his gun. it switches to a wide shot, then a shot of the head bandit guy... it gets wide again to do a really short pan of the scene, and mal's bonnet is gone! and then just a couple frames later it's back with the close-up on jayne. and it's right after that shot that mal pulls the bonnet down. the other thing has to do with the infamous jayne hat in The Message, with regards to the reappearing straw. again, i don't know if anyone has already figured this out. when jayne gets the hat it's covered in straw, since he just pulled it out of the box his mother sent it in. we all know that. later jayne has presumably cleaned it off. but it's back for the scene when the crew is searching tracey's crate. this isn't an error. it's because the coffin was packed in the mailing crate with more straw. it gets one jayne's hat because they ripped everything appart to see if there was something hidden. the straw had to go somewhere, and some of it went on the hat. yup, so the straw thing has been bugging me for a while, but i was excited to notice the bonnet. ok, that's all i got for now!

The year that Firefly aired was my last year in a dorm, and the only TV stations that came in were FOX and a local Christian station that had hourly Bible readings. Let me tell you, it was a close call sometimes which I was going to watch. So, for the sake of some mindless entertainment, the whole floor would gather 'round the twelve-inch TV and watch the Sunday night cartoons. And then one day, at the end of the Simpsons, they aired one of those commercials-during-the-credits, shoved into one corner of the screen. Fastlane. Pretty much looked like it sucked. But then there was an ad for a Sci-Fi show by the name of Firefly. It didn't look a whole lot better, but in a highly geeky dorm, in a region where we didn't even get the then-mediocre Enterprise, any Sci-Fi is better than no Sci-Fi. Collectively, we made a note to stay in on the Friday night of Firefly's pilot episode, and give this not-too-fantastic-looking show a chance. This is about the point in the story where I'd love to say I loved it from the very first moment it was on... But, alas, I was confused beyond belief for the first half as the character introductions flew by at a breakneck pace, on top of a (frankly) rather dull caper story. Only then, the caper went south, the captain started feeling guilty about the whole thing, and in a particularly beautiful moment, Mal shoved Crow through the engine. ...And that's when I realized this wasn't just any old science fiction. After years (and I mean YEARS) of Trek-style "Everybody play nice and we'll settle this peacefully", here, at last, was a captain who said, "My way or the highway." And it was Good.

what would all of you put into (or like to see in)a Firefly fan's survival kit? here's what i've thought of: -the DVD set (maybe a couple copies...) -a Pocket Pinyinary for all your exclamatory needs -chopsticks, recipes -harmonica (perform your own accompanyment to the theme we all know and love) -a nice leather coat... brown, no less. -protein -a jayne hat, but that's sort of a given! so yeah. that's what i can think of. anyone else have some ideas? what would you want for camping out and watching the series start to (untimely) finish?

All this week I've been sick with Bronchitis. (Started last Saturday and still have it today.) I'd been wanting to see all the Firefly episodes because I only got to see part of the pilot (that the stupid people at Fox showed last) before they cancelled it. After seeing the pilot I fell in love with the show but, as mentioned before it was cancelled. So I resigned to a life without Firefly. Then the DVDs came out and I thought "I have enough obsessions (star wars, LOTRs, NY Yankees, etc.). I don't need another." Well, when I started feeling the bronchistis, I also felt the firefly bug catching me again. I borrowed it from a friend and when she took it back I ran out and bought it. I can't imagine how I lived without it for so long. So I spent an entire week in bed sleeping, but between naps the crew of Serenity was there to keep me company. :blush:

Odd question for all u buffs out there. Being an Aviator myself and watching Wash shutdown Serenity on some dirtball somewhere, (not sure which episode sparked this thought)the engines get rotated back to inflight positions. This don't make sense to me at all.. It leaves the vessel in a "not ready for take-off" condition. Why not leave them in the vertical position?? Any takers?? :evil:

I am a geek without a home. Somehow my dad, who is not at all athletic, got me into sports, so now I can name all 117 Division I-A NCAA College Football Teams, and obscure trivia and factoids re: the Houston Astros ca. 1980-present. I also know way too much about cinema-- and not just the movies... I can rattle off directors, screenwriters and cinematographers, and I'm just now starting to remember costumers and set designers. I knew David Boyd DP'd Firefly before I even bought the DVD's. I'm not saying I need help. I'm just looking for a good support group. Because the mountain of knowledge my brain seems to retain, is wobbling over toward U.S. Foreign Policy, and that cr*p just makes me want to stab somebody. Happy Foot-Washing.

The last few days have been rather sad. I am not looking forward to one of my favorite stations being destroyed. TechTV is a haven for geeks and nerds and such. Well, Comcast recently bought out TechTV. They plan on putting their own station, G4, on in its place. They tell us they are keeping some of the shows, but they won't be. They have fired the production staff, moved the studios, given the employees notice and posted a list of planned shows. It doesn't look good. I just needed a place to whine. Just ignore me. I'll miss Leo. Heck, I'll miss them all, even Martin and Foo.

Ok, I've started running a firefly roleplay using my own d20 system, it begins 1 week after the pilot episode and after the great first session we had I thought people might be interested in what happens. Havn't decided if I'm going to fic them or just note them, but it sure will be entertaining! The characters are: Christopher Brannen: A rogue and a smuggler, Brannen is looking for a crew and a ship to take irradiated Trans-U parts back to his station for testing. He works for a company called Trans-Universal shipping. CJ Stark: A young independence pilot, he was ready to go into serenity valley to save his father but when the independents pulled out and his father died, he left the war effort and returned home to become a racing pilot. Finding out his mother was being beaten by her husband, the town mayor, CJ literally rammed his ship into him and killed him. On the run from the law CJ has come to whitefall on the gas his ship had left, and is now looking for work to get further out of the system. Timothy Raser: A doctor who, though trained by the Alliance, swapped sides to the Independents after he left. His empathy for his patients causes him to cut on himself every time he loses one, which in turn led to him turning to a PCP-like substance to cope. Raser is a mystery to the crew, calm and collected his role is as yet uncertain. Morgan Zeppelin: An Alliance grunt, while visiting his parents on Whitefall he was held up and lost all his money, the Alliance unwilling to pick him up have ordered him to get off the moon by any means necessary. Devlin Murdock: Sadist, likes dancing. Devlin likes to skin things, and unfortunatly he has a tendency for doing it in public places. An Independent mechanic, he worked on large freighter class ships until the end of the war. Since then, he has been taking odd jobs wherever he can get them. Crystal O'Hara: Beautiful, intelligent and with a love of all things pink, Crystal is a companion booking passage on the Daisy (Brannen's new ship) to take her to the nicer places in the 'verse. Her reasons for being on Whitefall, and her past are a mystery.

Cuz I knew if I used the title, "New Crew for 'Serenity?'" you'd all get the wrong idea. According to the IMDB, the crew is settling in for the film... and as much as Joss sang the praises of Cinematographer David Boyd, now I read that the DP for 'Serenity' is going to be Jack N. Green. Jack Green?! I mean, sure, he was nominated for an Oscar for "Unforgiven" and all that, but I mean, what ELSE has he done? I double-checked his filmography... yes, he can Light and all that, but where's the STYLE? Where's the... PANACHE?? What other changes can we not look forward to? Costumes? SETS?!?! I'm scared. Somebody please hold me.

Okay, I know we're all stoked about the potential for competition btw Serenity and Star Wars, but I was curious, when does everyone think the best time for Serenity to be released would be? My point is that Tons of movies are released in the summer - more than probably any other time of the year, and therefore it is hard for even good movies to stay at number 1 more than one week in a row unless they appeal to wide group of ages (ie Shrek, Nemo). However, Fall and Spring are notoriously horrible movie times w/ either bad dramas or bad comedies. Wouldn't it be better to see Serenity released among these so that it would enjoy a long run at number 1 and long run in the theaters and demonstrate it's money making power? Look at lord of the rings after all. It's been many years since a summer flick enjoyed those kind of numbers (Total Recall in fact, was discussing this with a friend yesterday). So I'm actually hoping for production delays so the movie can come out in fall (even though I'm impatient as hell to see it!!).

But then i told summer that i love river and she called me a sweetie. Then i made Jewel, whos my second faveorite caricter, laugh and she told me i was funny. So im stood in the nathan qeue having been called a sweetie and funny by like two of my fave actresses in the world and I'm in tears. But to top it all of when i met nathan i had in piles of laughter as i knocked a pile of post its of his table and stood spinning in circles trying to mentain some dignity and picking them up say "I'm no post it theif I swear I don't useual do this" while my friends are stood there going shes always like this. lol it was embaressing and funny at the same time but im never gonna get over the whole Summer called me a sweetie thing. never i have her autograph and she drew a picture on it for me

Back to sleeping till noon, and then watching eps of Firefly all day (with work falling somewhere in between the two). The Bad News: While here at school I enjoy broadband Internet and cable TV. At home nada. Just regular old TV (like 5 stations) and absolutely [i]no[/i] Internet connection. AUGGGH! Usually I'm on the net 24/7 but now I'm gonna be unplugged for a whole 4 months. Unfortunately this means no more online games :disappointed: but more importantly, no FireflyFans.net. I got a convert! We've all seen it a hundred times before in the little blog thing. I got a convert! And them maybe a little :biggrin: If you take the time to click on it you might see a little message saying something like "I got a convert! We were sitting around and blah blah blah..." My question is why do we feel the need to do this? It is it a show of our wealth? Maybe in our little courner of the verse, we don't measure our wealth in dollars, or pounds, or euro, or whatever. We measure wealth in number of converts. Number of times we've watched "Ariel." How many times a day we say, "Not so much." If we have a Jayne hat or not. Or maybe we anounce our new convert because its a kind of initiation. You're not a [i] true [/i] member of FFF.net unless you get a convert of you're very own. You're in the club if you can get a convert. Maybe we do it because we've seen others do it, and its the thing to do. You only get in the club if you act like everybody else. Did you ever stop to think..... and forget to start again? Happens to me all the time. Happened the other day, as I'm pondering the Magnificence of Joss Whedon. Yes, we know his credited work-- Firefly, Angel, Buffy, those episodes of Roseanne we can't remember. But I'm paused, the other day, and my thoughts turn to "Speed," which he allegedly completely rewrote-- dialogue, characters, plot. And... y'know... Can't you just see Nathan Fillion in the Keanu Reeves part? I mean, imagine that movie with an ACTOR in the lead. Woah. "Whatever it is... that you did... I'm sure that.. you're sorry," he says to the gun-toting bus passanger. Total Mal line, I swear. "I should probably let you know... I don't have a drivers license," says Annie, or something like it. "It got suspended. (What for?) Speeding." I could totally see Kaylee giving that line. Is it wrong I've started recasting ALL movies with Firefly cast members? I think I'm starting to obsess. So you tell me: Dangerous Overindulgent Obsession, or Fun New Party Game?

As of this writing, it's about 1 hour and 50 minutes until the final 'Angel' airs in my time zone. I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on this, both before and after it airs, cuz goodness knows I WILL be back (in about... oh, 2 hours and 50 minutes) with some sort of emotional scalding. WHY IT COULD HURT: Joss is an Evil Man. He likes to play with us. If this episode ends on a cliffhanger, I will hug him with one hand as I stab him with the other. WHY IT COULD ROCK: All bets are off man. No character is safe. The episode Ben Edlund wrote the other week, where Illyria kills everyone in 20 seconds?(that's 2 rounds of combat for all you RPG-ers, and only Angel was alive at the end of Round 1) ... when Spike dropped, I freaked OUT, cuz with only a few episodes left, it could've been Real. So we're in danger tonight. Especially because, you could switch the 'Rock' and 'Hurt' paragraphs above, and it would still fit. I need to go lie down. -Qs (p.s. Kaylee DOES call Simon "honey" after he's all beat up by Stitch in Jaynestown. I thought that's what she was saying, but was afraid she wasn't....and consequently it took a long time before I got the courage to watch it with closed caption. But she does. So something's right in the world.

I converted two more people at Cantr today. One of them I was talking to in MSN a few weeks ago and mentioned Firefly. Since I post a lot of Firefly things at the Cantr forum (of which I am now known as a the Firefly whore) he was wondering what it was all about so I told him about it. He then said to me that he didn't like sci-fi shows but that he would give it a try should he come across. He e-mailed me today to tell me that he had rented it and now that he loves it. I converted another person from the Cantr forum today that has shown interest in the past. I finally got her to download 'Serenity' from the internet. She posted that she is now hooked. I think I did my duty for today. But alas, converting new Browncoats to the ranks is an endless job. So many more to convert and less than a year before the movie comes out. Must get to work. I plan on converting a couple hundred more people at the camp I work at during the summer (Rotary Scout Reservation). So I'll keep you all posted and updated on what happens at camp and how many seem to be converted.

A few months ago there was this tread about all the problems that Firefly has. One that i kept seeing over and over and over and OVER again was in HoG that Mal and whats-her-face we're sweating too much during the sex scene. The arguments were that it was night time and so the temperature would drop and they wouldn't sweat. Besides it wasn't like they were banging that vigoursly anyway. I saw all this and didn't think to much about it. Well, I'm here to set the record straight. I myself am a desert dweller. Last night i kicked all the blankets off the bed, turned on [i] two [/i] fans, and took all my clothes off. I was still sweating. If, hypotheticly, i was having sex, I would be sweating A LOT. So you see, desert temperatures don't drop that much at night and Joss is an artistic genious. Just thought I should let you know.

I found this today on Yahoo, which had an article up about the new schedules: "One of Fox's most critically acclaimed shows, "Arrested Development," was renewed despite poor ratings." I, personally, find this most interesting becasue didn't Firefly have critical acclaim with it and it too recieved poor ratings, yet didn't get get renewed. Maybe I'm being too picky, but Wedon should try to shop the show around again. Especially with Angle gone now I bet he'd get a few hits... Anyway... Later.

Anybody ever read the book, [i]Vampire$[/i], by John Steakley? OK, if you said no, then let me rephrase that. Has anybody ever read the book that [i]John Carpenter's Vampires[/i] raped? That's right. Raped and left in a ditch. If you've seen the movie and was so disappointed as to spit on the book if you ever saw it on a shelf than let me clarify. John Carpenter took the name, the main character, and a couple of scenes from the book... and that was it. Those of you who've read the book already know this and were probably as homicidal as I was after seeing the movie. Anyway, the book is my all-time favorite book. It's got wild humor, roaring action, and piercing drama. Kind of like Firefly. Hell, it could've been Firefly with a different plot and time. Mind you I'm talking about the quality of the writing and story. It makes me wonder if Joss Whedon ever read it himself. That's why he'd be the perfect man to bring this book, and I do mean THE BOOK INTACT, to the big screen again. It's classic Jossage. It puts real life characters and situations in a world of horror and fantasy. I recently bought the book again (this is my third copy in ten years) and as I re-read it I noticed the simularities to Firefly. That's when the idea hit me that Joss should, no, must remake this movie and give this modern classic of fantasy literature a place in cinematic history. Just like Neil Jordan did with [i]Interview with the Vampire.[/i] But, what are the rules on remaking a movie? How long are you supposed to wait? Do the studios now own this story in all its incarnations? Would Joss Whedon even consider writing the new and improved screenplay and directing? You know what? I'd be satisfied if Joss would just write the screenplay. I'd love for him to hear this idea for a post-[i]Serenity[/i] job. Because this really is a great book and it deserves more than being left in a ditch cinematically. I highly suggest if you haven't read it to go out right now and buy it. It's worth it.

i've had a hard week lol i bet loads of people say that I hate it everything thats happenning. my friends are throwing a big party tonight sept I'm not going don't feel like it. One of our friends, now exfriends, has been causing to much trouble and this week she was screaming at me coz i wouldn't tell her what the others where saying about her. anyway they gave her back her money and told her she couldn't go to the party and things got wprse from there. I couldn't even come home and watch firefly as my mate had stolen it and wouldn't give it back. I played game of life and we went round the bored twice had loads of fun cheered me up a bit. I married Summer Glau and eliza dushku and we had 6 tiny children whoose names where : first is our boy Kimble-James Glau second a girl Kaylee-Jewel Glau 3rd a boy Kelly-Jayne Glau 4th a girl Kennedy-Jenny Glau 5th a girl Kharisma-Joan Glau and last a girl Inara-River Glau the special baby with differnt name I also won with £35,59,000 it was a lil highlight. i miss feeling happy and like me i miss some one special in my life who shall remain nameless

[b]My First Blog[/b] My Wife and I caught most of the Firefly episodes as they aired, but missed a few. We mostly forgot about the show once we heard it was well and truly cancelled. Until I happened to see the boxed DVD set in a store. I valiantly resisted my hard-coded urge to not spend money and bought it. Since then we've watched the entire series several times, but this most recent time my Wife just couldn't watch the last two episodes, it was just too sad. So we've started checking out all of the special features and I've watched a couple of episodes with commentary turned on. We've converted a couple of friends who were so enthusiastic they went out and bought their own copy before they even finished watching our set. So that's Me and Firefly in a nutshell.

So this girl I know, who is awesome, insists I go see "The Girl Next Door" with her at the dollar theater tonight. I'm not that enthused, but she recommends it, says it's only a dollar, and besides, it's got porn stars. I'm NOT MADE OF STONE, people!!!!! Dude, the male lead is played by someone named Emile Hirsch. And holy CRAP, if he doesn't look JUST ... LIKE ... SIMON (Sean Maher). It's uncanny. I was freaking out for 90 minutes. Sure, there's an age difference in the actors of about 10 years, but if you looked at Sean Maher, pictured what he'd look like 10 years ago, gave him a shaggier haircut... they're IDENTICAL, it was freaking me out. I have no idea why I mention this. If any of you ladies are diggin' on Simon, take solace-- he has a twin.

You've heard the expression "When it rains, it pours" right? Well, around here, it's monsoon season. The monsooning (is dat a woid?) started when the server crashed at work. Actually, since I work at a church, we say it was "Raptured" but basically it comes down to the same thing - a patch that is supposed to give us access to the database server. What I've learned from this is that patches are beyond problematic in ways you cannot possibly believe, and just about all the computers that can be hooked up have been booted off at one time or another. The only thing to do then is to come to me and ask why when really I'm just a high-end user, not an IS person. But there's a funny part - are you ready? Dell LOST our replacement server - isn't that a riot? I really wish I was kidding, but either they or the shipping company lost track of it. The best part is that it did arrive at the place of business for our volunteer IS guy (church, remember? all things are volunteer) only nobody could identify the signature of the person who signed for it. Oh yeah - it was stolen. This week I'm told the new server is imminent, but am I holding my breath? I feel like Mal in [i]Out of Gas[/i] ("I got 9 people here, all wantin' to use the network.") I just wish I could huddle up in a blanky somewhere and take a nap... actually I wish I could huddle up in a blanky with Mal. Napping at that point would probably be totally optional. And then there's school. Some of you have heard my shiny praise for my progress thus far - still can't fault classes where I'm ditigally or maually lost in the throes of creativity for four to six hours a night. But I think if I'd known what a complete hassle financial aid is, I never would have gone near the idea of it, so it's a good thing I didn't know. I LOVE my classes, but I HATE the administration. AI International Minnesota is more or less a branch office of the main school, which is located in Cincinatti, so in a sense I'm out on the rim trying to follow the really wacked-out rules of a core-world administration. If I could, I'd get into my car (Lunan) and drive to my very own piece of the black somewhere in Northern Minnesota. So If I seem spacey these days, or unresponsive please know I haven't forgotten the browncoats. Firefly remains a part of my life every day - especially at 11:30 p.m. when I'm still hunched over a light table working on a Color & Design project while Jayne's talking about dirty deceivers. I keep writing fan fic because I can't stop, and because it offers me the escape that I can't afford to take right now. Thanks to all the stress I'm under - and I can't tell you how much I hate that word - I'm starting to meet the real me... I really don't like her very much.

It's 6:25 in the morning, I'm unable to sleep and for some bizarre reason I'm getting out of bed and going to walk for over an hour to see if there are still horses where I used to live last year. This may not seem blog-worthy, but it's something I reckon I should take note of. ... It's going to be a weird day.

Basically, my computer is knackered. It has been playing for a long time, but last night it gave up and died. There were lots of strange whirring and clunking sounds, then smoke started coming out of the back. Some one looked at it this morning and said the fan is broken. I tried to locate a new fan, but was advised they don't make replacement parts anymore (it's a very old computer). I decided to get a new computer, so sat down and worked through the accounts. With the spare cash I have at the end of each month I should be able to buy one in 2008. We got it working without the fan, but I was warned that it could overheat, fry the internal processor and burst into flames. I am so fed up.

I was the only FIREFLY fan that I knew, until I surfed into you. I was so happy I ran into the DVD's, and now this! And now there may be a FIREFLY movie?! I'm blown away! FIREFLY was the greatest show I ever saw, and seeing it get canceled killed me, but now the fire flies again, UNBELIEVABLE! I'm not alone anymore!

I hate to say it, but fireflyfans.net is slowly eroding my love for Simon. Over the course of the next couple of blogs I shall attempt to explain why. As always you are welcome to disagree or not as you see fit. These are completely and utterly my own opinions and I am very well aware that they are not popular ones. This however is my blog and I shall strive onwards to rant about Simon in the hopes that getting it off my chest will make me stop dreading the next time I see a post about him. What drives me bonkers is the mostly overridding belief that Simon and Kaylee should be together. I shall now wait patiently while the mob throws rotten fruit then quietly disperses before continuing :P Part the first: Romance is a two way street Missy! Simon and Kaylee are from two different worlds. Socially, economically, culturally they had very opposing upbringings and like it or not, that shapes who you are. Simon is trying his darndest to conform to his new situation. We've seen his clothing style loosen up, him smile more, and him actually acting like a real person not the stiff cardboard cutout that his old society expected him to be. What we don't see though, is Kaylee making any type of concessions at all. She expects Simon to totally and completely embrace the courtship rituals of her society and becomes increasingly upset when he can't fully do that. And he tries people, he really tries. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something..ahem..sorry, wrong fandom reference. He tries, and yes he slips up but is that really call for the cold shouldered, spiteful verbal lashing that Kaylee dishes out to him? Not at all. Once, just once, I'd like for Simon to inadvertently say something offensive while trying to be nice ie) "I love your hands Kaylee, they're so strong. Not like the girls on Osiris with their smooth, milky-white skin, no your hands are real hands, working hands." Now of course Kaylee will be insulted by this just like always, but in my semi-perfect universe she would smile and accept it for what it is, a complement. We could then anticipate the usual Kaylee-like reply "Thanks Simon, good to know that you think I'm so unique." But unlike anything ever seen before, this wont be said like unique is worse than the Alliance, it will just be Kaylee genuinely pleased with a compliment that Simon has (clumsily) paid her. Sadly this will never come to pass. We will never see Kaylee meeting him halfway, ever. So I urge you (those that havn't already left in disgust to go petition Hakken to blacklist me from fff.net), next time you watch your DVD's or tapes or however you get your fix, really look at whats being said. He isn't trying to be mean, but she is. She lashes out with all the spite of a little girl who didn't just get exactly what she wanted. Lets stop blaming Simon for every little thing that goes wrong, shall we? Just as a little end note, there was once when I felt Kaylee has legitimate cause to feel offended by what Simon has said. When he called Serenity luh suh (though in the heat of the moment, upset by Mal) he had it coming. You just don't do that, especially when Kaylee is around.
