I thought I would post pictures of me in my hat to replace the 8:00am ones that displayed me at m absolute WORST. LOL. So here they are! (sorry if they're a tad big.)

"Thanks, Alan!" or "The Events Surrounding My Craptacular Day"
Saturday, 03 November 2007 02:21:13

Well today turned out to be the crappiest of days! I recently moved out of my dad's house into my own apartment. I had to put school on hold and get a full time job. Why? Because my childhood "home" was no longer safe. Daddy-dear had a mid-life crisis and started dating a crack-whore. Then he gave up on trying to "save" her and started dating her twin sister - also a crack-whore. So my bank calls me today and - SURPRISE! My checking account is overdrawn $400! Apparently, when I moved out, I left behind a box of checks - which were stolen recently, I guess. - God only knows who took them - but I'm pretty sure I could figure it out in three guesses... So I had to go to the bank, fill out forms, go to the police station, fill out forms... Plus I actually caused a scene in the middle of a gas station screaming at my father. Me. Screaming. In a public place. It was completely out of character and kinda epic - at least for me. It felt kinda good. I hope I embarrased the hell out of him. Afterward, I went to my favorite coffee shop to chill out and down the street, what was playing!?! Death At A Funeral! So I went. All by myself. I laughed a lot. It cheered me mightily, cackling at Alan's facial expressions and naked butt. *sigh* Good times. So thanks, Alan, you brilliant Master of Comedy. You totally improved my day.

Hack Attack
Saturday, 03 November 2007 09:27:05

well, I reposted a few chapters of my current story, but when I dropped in later to continue, I found all, that is ALL of my stories gone *sigh*. So, I guess it'll have to wait until after deer season after all. For those who are interested, I can repost the Shade series after the problem is fixed. Meanwhile, is anyone finds out where the hacker lives, I'd like to talk to him or her. I've got a pair of pliers and some straight pins I'd like to show them how to use, if you get my meaning. It never ceases to amaze me that someone will destroy what someone else has worked to create, and I refer here not the the stories themselves, but to the obvious amount of work and dedication involved in making this site what it is. Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday season. Happy reading. Bad

Alan's naked

Go and see Death at a Funeral, the new British flick that's just come out in the UK. Apart from the fact that there are some wonderful laugh out loud moments, our very own Alan Tudyk is in it, and lets it all hang out. Literally. Well, maybe not full frontal, but full backal, at least. And he's really funny. Saw it last night, and it made my day!

BSR go byebye?
Sunday, 04 November 2007 02:10:56

Well *that* sucks. I can re-post, but not everyone may be able to do so. I'll wait a while to see if they find copies anywhere before flooding the site. If I only do one a day that would take about a month... Good thing I've only been writing for a year and a half or we'd REALLY get bogged down!

Am I alone in my thinking?
Sunday, 04 November 2007 16:34:12

First let me apologize, for I am a new recuit! Only after "Serenity" was run on cable did I join your loyal ranks. Of course I ran out and bought the movie (collectors edition for fear that I would miss out on something). That's when I discovered that the movie was a continuation of a cancelled TV series. Of course I ran out and bought the box set. Now I'm hooked! How did this show get cancelled??? What was FOX thinking??? It is one of the best SciFi shows, EVER! It's obvious they mishandled it from the beginning, but still; I've seen worse shows run for at least two years in order to develope a fan base. I smell a conspiracy! Is it at all possible that the Boneheads (oops, I mean Executives) at FOX are really Alliance Parliment members!!! Something to think about!!!

Blue Sun Room?
Monday, 05 November 2007 11:37:41

All my content on blue sun room has been oddly... removed. Weird... Okay. Maybe I haven't logged into fireflyfans.net for a while, I've been using fanpop instead, updating firefly there under cristallize. I dressed up as River for halloween and the only other firefly fan i know in school, was able to guess who I was! YAY! It was a I-decided-to-dress-down-last-minute thing and was I guess successful. I aimed for the river look in objects in space, using a green floral print dress, a white knit jacket, kinda like the one she wore and black boots, cause i can't walk around school barefoot.

Fic Disappearing
Monday, 05 November 2007 16:09:28

I don't have the time or interest in reposting all my fic that was lost in the recent hackjob. I've got copies posted elsewhere, like fanfiction.net. People can go there to read anything new I decide to post. I'm more upset about loosing all the great feedback. Is there anywhere one can find backups of that?

fic is lost...boo hoo
Monday, 05 November 2007 17:02:14

I just don't have the time to repost here. So, I'll send everyone on over to fanfiction.net. You can find my writings there. Same screen name.

I'll be back!
Monday, 05 November 2007 18:48:23

In two ways - first, in the wake of the 'hands of blue' hacker , I will definitely be making sure that "Passing through the storm" gets back up on the site soon. I've saved all FB from the google cache except for part 2, and I have all of the writing safe in various formats... in fact, I've been doing some editing and polishing, so you browncoats are going to get the brand-new SHINIER version of 'storm' if I have to repost it  Not that there's very much difference in the plot of course. Also, I'll be starting the sequel once Nanowrimo is done... working on a non-fandom project for that, my first in years, so wish me good luck! Actually, I've got about a page done for the sequel, but I'm not going to get much further on it for a while. Even Chinese hackers can't stop the signal. We are all leaves on the wind - or something like that

Writer's strike? *sob*
Monday, 05 November 2007 22:05:14

So the writers have gone on strike today.... While I fully support their cause (because really, when *hasn't* an artist gotten screwed over by businessmen?) I am very disappointed by this news. I don't claim to be a "media snob", but I'm so busy that unless a television show is making a decent effort - with intelligent, engrossing scripts, high production values, and actual actors - I just don't see why I should give them my time. Plus, reality shows are half-assed get-rich-quick schemes that exploit the cruelest elements of human nature to pander to the stupidest of morons... :disappointed: I'm especially saddened because television has finally been seeing an upswing in creative programming after eight crap years of "Survivor" and "CSINYPDSUV" knockoffs, and these great new shows will probably be the first to go after the late night dailies. "Mad Men", "My Name is Earl", "Lost", "Heroes", "Pushing Daisies" - I will be SO pissed if these get backburnered for more glorified "talent" shows! :finger: Obviously there's nothing the little people can do about resolving this dispute, but I do hope the studios come to their senses quickly and give the true creators of television - and their loving audience - what they need and deserve.

BSR Room Stuff Appeared!
Tuesday, 06 November 2007 03:04:18

I just checked and most of my fics have been restored. That is except the last 2 or 3 that I posted. I do have a question though about reposting and I'd like to hear your thoughts. I was thinking about rediting and rewriting some of my older fics before they mysteriously reappeared. Is that a good idea? Or do you leave them alone even if your early writing really sucked and you think you could do it much better now?

Biting the bullet
Tuesday, 06 November 2007 12:56:06

Hi there, Yes, I'm finally biting the bullet and applying for job seekers allowance. I don't want to but the job hunt is going nowhere, I'm quickly running out of money and apparently if you apply for job seekers they throw jobs at you so I'll see how that goes. I just need to find my savings account statement. TTFN Jennifer -x-

After the Hack
Tuesday, 06 November 2007 17:14:05

All hail Haken! I've already left my thanks on the Appreciatin' Haken thread, but I thought I'd just add that here too. As for my stories still missing from the BSR, so that I don't clog up the uploads, I will put them on as complete items. I know that means a number of them will be l-o-n-g, but if folks want to go back, re-read, re-comment, please do. That means that the following stories will be uploaded in their completeness over the next weeks (I will call them reposts and number them so that it's easier to tell where they come in the MAYA sequence): THE BEQUEST SNAKE IN THE GRASS THE MORNING AFTER LETTERS UNDERSTANDING THE WHY BABY TALK CHAINWAVE HOPE NIGHT WATCH MICE RELIEF RAIN SINS OF THE FLESH GARDEN RESPITE TASTE THE CAPTURE ANTICIPATION SHADOW'S GRAVEYARD HOMEWARD BOUND TOGETHER REUNION WAR WOUNDS TIME BOMB RECOLLECTIONS TANGLED WEB SAYING GOODBYE SAYING HELLO IN THE MOMENT IN HIS CUPS TURNING THE CORNER GET OF THE UNICORN THIRD CHANCE AIRFLOW WORKING FOR THE MAN Wow, I didn't know I had so many! That will then bring us up to date with PLAYING PARTS. Hope you continue to read and enjoy, and Haken and Joss rule!

Teaser. Yes, this is a teaser. Yes, this is a teaser. Yes, this is a teaser.

The Old That Is Strong, Book IV: Fire and Water brings us this one. Here's hopeful for some whetted appetites. But first.... Warning space. This excerpt is a bit on the violent side and may be disturbing for the fainter of heart. ********** Thunder.... Flashes.... Fire....water....burn the land, boil the sea.... Burn and boil. Fire and water. Silently fitful, River Tam jolted from her side onto her back, unfeeling of the bedsheet entwined in her legs. The nightmares once again had her in their heartless grasp. In the depths of her bunk, none bore witness to her agonised tosses and turns, her whimpers went unheard: just as it had been three years ago, they, and she, were completely unheeded, alone in the middle of eternal night. Danger. She was danger, and danger meant her. She was between experiments, a time bomb that might level the place if mishandled. Wrapped in a straitjacket and doped half delirious, she was prone on the floor, leaning against the jet-black, soundproof glass door of her tiny, dimly blue-lit cell. She could not see out, but in her mind's ear she could discern the approaching danger, the heavy, determined footsteps approaching, coming straight for her. Two men. Them? No, them.... The footsteps boomed closer, and in a sudden flash River saw the feet. One pair shod in gleaming black dress shoes. The other encased in heavy work boots. Their thunder, their fury, made the ground tremble, and in another flash of light from overhead River could see the forms. One form she knew implicitly - she had grown up with it, and it hadn't changed at all since she last saw it. The other was tall and powerfully framed. The forms and the footsteps grew, forbidding, and then all at once the faces flashed before River's recognitive eyes and she knew the two men. Two men who loved her very much. Mistake unmade, they were coming for her. Side by side they strode onward, thundered toward her: hidden though she was, they seemed to know intuitively where to look. The floor trembled and so did River: come what might, violence was going to ensue. In shadow they advanced, and the closer they came, the more palpable the fury - a fury borne of unconditional love. Another flash and River could see the face to the left. Her brother, calm and collected as ever but still determined. Head level, yet racing without end for the means to release River from her darkness. Then the face to the right caught her eye - and her fear. Her lover, passionate and powerful. He would die for her. He would kill for her, and it was apparent that he was about to do just that. They surged forth through the black passage, pace never increasing beyond a booming stride - until an Alliance agent, in all his blank-eyed, blue-gloved abomination, appeared from nowhere in front of them. His supersonic disruptor was already in his hand, but her brother, showing barely a glimmer of a thought about the act, had smacked the device clear out of sight in almost the same instant it appeared: before it even shattered against the wall, her lover had grabbed the agent by the hair and crushed his larynx in one swift punch. There they left him, struggling to breathe, as their relentless march resumed. No power in the 'verse can stop me.... They were barely a dozen paces onward when a side passage seemed to open out of nowhere. Therein lurked a guard, unarmed but large, unamused and on the offense. Her brother was inexplicably ready for him and the ham of a fist he swung at him in a downward arc, but River cringed as she sensed the guard's superior strength and speed swat her brother aside. His shock quailed her, but the harshest was yet to come, as her lover, physically equal to the guard and possessed of an emotionally driven strength far beyond his, sidled around her hunched brother and locked both hands on his adversary's head. The guard's agony smote River as her lover's fingers dug into his eye sockets and hurled him into a darkness all

Appreciatin' Haken
Wednesday, 07 November 2007 01:24:23

All hail Haken. A big giant thank-you for driving the trojan horses out of the BSR. My one and only fic is now back up and will be complete pretty soon, now, I think, maybe.

RE the hack
Wednesday, 07 November 2007 15:51:03

I only have 8 chapters missing at this point, so I believe I'll repost. I'll try to do it quick-ish (but not floodish :p), so I can continue with new posts asap. I've found most of my missing chapters on Google's cache, so I have all your feedback. I'll hold it close and treasure it always! *wish I could make a big ascii heart and put it here in pink but I'm just not that cool...*

Sorry if you have already read them, and to those who haven't i'm not sorry in the littlest..... Please Re enjoy! Repostus Planus
Thursday, 08 November 2007 15:32:09

OKay, so thanks to a beaureacratic entanglement (sorry sir, but we seem to have misplaced your early season permit for that region) I am not, as you may have noticed, in the woods, happily stalking bambi's grandson. In the meanwhile, as I languish in waiting for the regular season to open, I am reposting my older stories in blocks of five chapters each. I know that makes them long posts, but with so many affected by the evil alliance chinese lackey hacker, may he burn forever in the SPecial Hell, I don't want to flood the page with posts. I do regret, more than anything, the loss of all the wonderful comments and suggestions made by those of you kind enough to post them. Wish I'd saved them, now. Happy Reading, and Happy Holidays! Lockjaw conclusion summary
Thursday, 08 November 2007 23:54:16

It will be a while till i stick my amateur oar back in the BSR - for any wondering about LockJaw's conclusion: Here’s what woulda happened:
1. River would’ve picked up the dying hunters thoughts – and established the link between him and the reaver boy. [they’re brothers] 2. The moon would have started pumping air out having sealed itself. 3. The crew would’ve tried to escape to Serenity – more air. 4. Kaylee would’ve figured that it was a security protocol. 5. Mal would’ve figured Mr Universe's LoveBot(TM), Lenore, to be the key. 6. They would have plugged her in – and sussed the password PAIN as in Paean… after the poem Lenore by Poe. 7. Jayne (cured by Simon) would’ve got over his fear and helped lead Simon and the Reaver to safety. 8. River would’ve talked to the Reaver as its bro. 9. Simon would’ve taken the Reaver to the ‘underground’ – also promising to fix the wave monitoring. (As in About Face) 10. Inara would leave – taking Mal who wants to find and bury the person he shot on Haven – shot clear out of anger (going with wrath) – and that he worries may have been a boy/youth. "I don't murder children"... but maybe he did. 11. Zoe would be internally upset by Mal (as usual) dwelling on himself and not Wash’s death – (it would become clear that though the Hunter viewed zoe as weakened having 'lost her mate' this is far from the case... "Yes Wash was my husband... my FIRST." Her career military mother married more than once.) but they would have had a meaningful dialogue pointing to Mal’s desire to recognise his new self (again leading to About Face) – and his need for a shirt!:) 12. Zoe and Kaylee are left on Serenity (the true home)… but the family seems more scattered than ever. THE END zoe "Not sure I know you too well these days Captain, Sir." mal "Not sure I know myself... but i can find my pants in the dark - and that's a start right?"* * he never takes em off remember?
here's a fun bit of Simon and Kaylee: Down to the Wire. ……………………………………

Outing Riley
Friday, 09 November 2007 08:34:00

Yes, I'm a geek, and I love films, and I simply adore my captain, so I bought OUTING RILEY. Made a couple of years ago and just finding an outlet, it's about the fourth brother in an Irish-American Catholic family coming out that he's gay. Nathan plays one of the other brothers. It's an amazing little film. Nathan's transition in particular from wise-cracking idiot through disbelief and anger to acceptance is fantastic. I'd recommend this, not just because he's in it, but because it's heart-warming and uplifting too. Fiver stars.

Just ramblin' on...
Friday, 09 November 2007 13:49:30

Well, I reposted my Zen sequel. Luckily, because I have been so dilatory in my posting, I only had to put one chapter back. There will be more - in fact, the whole thing is plotting out to be quite nicely complex and twisty. I make no apologies for the fact that there will be OC's. It's a big 'verse, and it stretches beyond coincidence to have the same folk falling over each other all the time. Unless they are actively looking, but that's another story...well, part of this one...Anyway - 'Serenity' and her crew are just one little story amongst many. (Personally, heretically, I've never been happy with River as such a major McGuffin in the 'verse, though I see how it's needed to drive the BDM.) We saw a fraction of the inhabited worlds in the series, and we've never seen more than glimpse of the Core. So plenty to play with.

Been Gone
Friday, 09 November 2007 23:18:15

I know I haven't been around much; okay, maybe I haven't been around since February! I've been working on developing my other obsession, HARRY POTTER! It's good to be back! (HP is still totally awesome!)

Writer's Request - and thanks to Mal4Prez
Saturday, 10 November 2007 10:39:36

First I want to thank Mal4Prez for taking up the standard and running with it! Mondays is good for reposting, and not putting up new stuff. However, I do want to make a plea for us writers. If you do read a reposted item, and you like it, whether you've commented before or not, please let the writer know, since all the shiny feedback disappeared too. It only takes a second, and it can make their day. I know! Same goes for any new stuff as well.

Ski Accident
Saturday, 10 November 2007 12:12:16

So normally I wouldn't post logs so close together but yesterday I went skiing for the first time on sugar mountain in NC and became the very first ski accident victim of the year They took me in the ambulence to the hospital where they x-rayed my leg to make sure it wasn't broken and found that I had badly strained a muscle in the back and on the side. I can't put any weight on it and I'm going to be on crutches for the rest of the week. The doctor also said it's possi ble that I tore the muscle and if that's true I won't be able to walk for months. I'm a performer so you know how horribly something like this can be for me... I don't know at this point if I'll even be able to stand up long enough to give a monologue for an audition. I can't afford to be injured

random sherlock holmes
Sunday, 11 November 2007 03:18:11

I have in the past remarked elsewhere that such humble efforts as I have made over the years to chronicle the cases of my friend Sherlock Holmes were met, despite the widening they caused to both his reputation and his clientele, by the Detective himself with at best a shrug and at worst a diatribe on the folly of romanticism and the need for cold objectivity, the application of which would produce something resembling lecture notes – or perhaps his own abstruse monographs. I met such tirades as best I could – though I will admit they were the cause of some asperity between us – and an unstated factor in the continued absence of my wife from the Baker Street lodgings he frequented and which we once had shared. Over the years however, I had grown used to these outbursts of Holmes’, his moods and manners and had learned to look beyond the surface of his words in order to uncover whatever the true cause of his unquiet might be. A small act of detection of which he was himself not unaware for he would often lean back with a droop of his eyelids and a twitch at the corner of his lips to remark, “Ah, Watson – if I am ever guilty of underestimating your particular talents it is only perhaps to balance the profligate hyperbole surrounding your descriptions of my own.” It was indeed in such a mood that I discovered Holmes, one nondescript October morning. It was immediately clear to me that he was engaged, if not actively on a case then at least on some puzzle or experiment of his own, for the sitting room air was fusty with the nastiest of his tobacco and the place was littered with newspapers left where they had been dropped. Perhaps to distract himself, he had picked up a copy of the Strand magazine and, unfortunately for me, had just finished reading when I arrived. “Ah – the very Boswell!” He cried upon my entry and with heavy sarcasm. “Holmes,” I acknowledged, moderating in turn the warmth of my greeting. There was a strained theatrical silence while I awaited his next salvo. He moved across to the window, making a play of toying in a desultory fashion with the curtains and peering at the street scene below. Then, “But it really won’t do!” he ejaculated. I kept my quiet, studying his narrow back. “To the general public, those that read your yellow accounts of my work at any rate – I am something more than a detective – and something very less than a man. I have become a mannered collection of gestures and props – a pipe, a hat, a pose – all as expected and all, as the bard would say - ‘signifying nothing.’ You have, I fear, struck me to the quick however with your latest flowery indictment.” My temper was, I will admit, roused by his words, even as I began to look for clues around the room as to what might be bothering the man. “You go too far, Holmes,” I admonished, “and your outburst is somewhat hypercritical. You accuse of me of catering to the common – and look askance at my taste for popular fiction – yet you yourself, for all your intellectual pursuits, are fond indeed of trawling the agony columns and such of the gossip inclined broadsheets.” “HA! Again a habit, no doubt expected of me by your readers. How many crimes have I uncovered in those murky waters, sifted at no small cost to my time and patience?” I had removed my hat and coat by this time and sat myself down, somewhat stiffly. “But what is the specific nature of my slander against you this time?” I asked. Holmes turned back from the window and looked at me narrowly. “It as, as usual, a cumulative effect… but one phrase does nag at me – I am ‘the fixed and unvarying point in a changing age… Phssshaw! This summons up the case neatly enough – I am now considered a figure of such rigid and unbending habits that even Scotland Yard believe me to be thoroughly covered in the dust of a bygone era – even as I struggle to prod them towards the deductive methods of the future. Was it not I who obtained a gramaphone – you do not own one yet – was it not I who demanded the installation of a telephone – and who in any case has never sent a let

Sunday, 11 November 2007 17:13:59

Thanks for everyone's helpful and interested comments. This has been loads of fun -- Sorry for the confusion over the reposts -- for some stupid reason I didn't think about the fact that for 12 hours or so there would be way too much Quitter clogging up the BSR. I just assumed, idiotically, that the reposts would go back wherever they had been before. But with any luck no one will ever have to figure out reposting again.

November 11, 2007
Sunday, 11 November 2007 22:19:37

I had just finish the book my favorite teacher from Lane Tech gave me and it just sucked. Some tragedy "The Scarlet Letter" was, were only one guy died. I couldn't understand any of the writing two-thirds of the time, and it droned on and on and on. The experience with the book must have been what River went through when the secret of Miranda was in her head. All in all, I am so glad that I finish this unholy story, and not so glad that I still have to write an essay on it. DAMMIT!!!!!!!!!!

I finally saw a James Bond movie
Sunday, 11 November 2007 23:16:18

I am a film student. And, it is shocking to say that I have never seen a James Bond movie before... until today. I saw Casino Royal, which I thought was a good choice because 1) it was the last Bond film that came out, and 2) it was the origin film. I liked the movie. It's not in my top ten anything, but I liked it. I was not, however, a big fan of most of the first part of the movie where James is chasing people around. I think that most of it could simply be condensed. There really wasn't much storyline told there. Frankly, I was bored until Vesper showed up! After that, I was like, "Oh, a love interest. Now the pot gets sizzling!" and "Oh! They're in danger! I'm on the edge of my seat!" (I really do sit on the edge of my seat, btw, when I'm watching an intense scene.) However, I am interested a bit in watching other Bond films. Now I want to start with Dr. No with still-sexy Sean Connery! I may not know much about the James Bond series, but it is common knowledge that he was the best Bond!

Reposting Schedule
Monday, 12 November 2007 05:17:48

Just wanted to thank Haken and Mal4prez for designating a specific reposting day! Now that my little fics are back up, I can concentrate on writing more and reading all the other wonderful ones from other writers that will haopefully take advantage of reposting Mondays too! :D

BSR hack upside ?
Monday, 12 November 2007 21:50:51

The hack itself was terrible. I hope everyone was able to find copies of their stories to repost but I doubt thats the case. I would like to thank those that did repost and encourage those who havent to do so. I wasn't planning on doing it myself but so many stories popping up each day I decided to join in. The upside I see to this, is the one I have experienced. I haven't been here that long so with everyone reposting their stories it gave me a chance to catch up stories I missed in the past, and more importantly, it introduced me to writers I missed or overlooked before. We have a lot of talent here. Also it's nice to be able to read entire story arcs without having to wait.(Always an option but one I didn't use often) There has been so much posted (reposted) I haven't been commenting on all of them. I know what those comments ment to me and will be going back and adding them at the end of a story arc and the solo stories I enjoy. I hope you all are able to find a new audience with your reposts. Now I have to get back to reading.

Dollhouse? Joss is in my head again...
Tuesday, 13 November 2007 12:59:46

Just read the outline for 'Dollhouse'. My first thought was 'so that's what they had in mind for River.' My second though was 'Hang on, didn't I write something similar in Zen?...' Yep, it was all there. River as a doll in the dollhouse, until she was to be sent out on 'missions'. It explains why I'm having a problem writing anything of my own - Joss is using my head to store his spare ideas until he needs them. But I have a plan. *Puts on her tinfoil hat* Pretty cunning, don'tcha think?

Jennifer's driving lesson update
Tuesday, 13 November 2007 19:26:16

I'm going to start doing a weekly update on how my driving lessons are going. Last week didn't go so well, I panicked at a roundabout and hit someone's wing mirror, so this week my instructor had me going over the basics. It didn't go too badly. The first moving off was a but jerky but i was on a hill, but every other were perfect. My gear changes were also perfect (I like changing gears, it's easy). I'm also getting slightly more confident. The reason why i hit the wing mirror last week was because I was concentrating on the cars instead of the gaps in between the cars, so this week I concentrated on the gaps and didn't hit anything. One problem I did have this week was stopping. The instructor had me stop in the same place three times; the first time I was too close to the kerb, the second time I forgot to putt he clutch down and then I stalled the car and it wasn't until the third time that I managed it successfully. There are two things that annoy me when driving: 1. three specific corners, the one near my house which is really tight and the other which is in Thornley because the turn is right on the corner and the one at Vincent's corner, near my house; again cos the corners are so tight 2. idiotic drivers. There was one woman who braked in the middle of the road for no reason and then sped up again and another driver overtook me on a hill. That's it for this week TTFN Jennifer -x-

19 on Friday!
Tuesday, 13 November 2007 22:05:20

It's my birthday on Friday and I'll be 19! How I've looked forward to this day for such a long time. Finally being an adult. Even though you are legally an adult at 18, you can't really have... *fun* until you're 19. (hip, responsible fun!) My sister and I are getting massages on the Saturday, because we both work on Friday, but I have this one special request. I know it's impossible, but I would love to meet Sean Maher. Or at least get an autograph. LOL. it's my ULTIMATE Birthday wish. He's such a talented actor. Dear Buddha, Please bring me Sean Maher, a pony and a plastic rocket. Thanks! -Shannon

i have heard of a second serenity movie. i just don t know if its true. if so... Awesome.

My fic is gone... But that's ok... It all kind of sucked... Anyway. (heh heh, that kinda rhymed) Well, sucked may be too strong a word... but it definitely was woefully inaccurate, in a technical continuity sense, after the release of the BDM. So I guess the BSR hack did me a kind of favour. I have been attempting to work on something new... well, new-ish. I've taken some of the better parts from all my fic, combined them with some new stuff, and am trying to write one decent story. I probably have about 50 pages completed by now, but seeing as I'm way too lazy to go back through all that and add the scripting for italics, bolds, and such... it'll likely never see the light of the BSR. Not to mention that my track record for finishing fics is around 0%. LOL 'Course... I have no reason why I just bothered to ramble on like this. Could be I'm 5 days into a 7 day overnight shift and am feeling a little bored & sleep dprived. Could be I'm subconciously hoping there's Browncoats out there who'll remember my early fics and want to read more, and will stroke my fragile insecure ego by asking to read what I have so far. Or, could be I'm feeling a little sorry for myself and just feel the need to moan, groan, widge & whine. Meh. Whatever.

Good Lil' Browncoat :)
Wednesday, 14 November 2007 19:08:13

I've been a good little browncoat lately! While the BSR was down I helped some people find their fics on Google's cache, and on Sunday I bought my first ever DVD set of Firefly! Went to three different Targets at 10 am to find a copy, but I figured this was the excuse I needed to retire the bootlegged copies I've been watching all year. *blush*

I just got Serenity on HD DVD!! ^_^ I also wanted to make an update about my wedding. It was a dream come to true. My bridesmaids were ushered by the groomsmen to "Rebuilding Serenity" and "Prep for a Flight." I walked down the isle with my father to the song "Love" from the Serenity movie soundtrack; it was just the perfect lead up. We don’t have video at the moment, we rented a DVD video camera, but it’s those mini DVDs and we don’t have software to get the footage of them, we’re still trying to find software to do it. Which stinks, but we’re working on it. Anyway, if anyone is interested, the link to a short picture slideshow is below.

A Day at the Races Pt 1
Thursday, 15 November 2007 11:25:18

A DAY AT THE RACES PART ONE: Twelve horses moving at pace will raise a helluva noise – and the horses being watched by Malcolm Reynolds were being raced to their limits. He turned away for a moment from the dusty track, past the crowds of spectators – the sun dancing off their sashes, brooches, pins and medals, finery - and let his eyes roam the sweep of the green plains beyond the fences. Could grass have ‘weft?’ he wondered, same as carpet? He admired the graceful slope up to the mansion house – gleaming white aways off and real palatial. His nostrils inhaled the early morning aroma of lawn, dew, tree and animal. “Fragrant.” He said. “Yes,” agreed the woman coming up beside him, “it’s been quite some time since any of us could use that word.” “Saving yourself surely.” Captain Reynolds flashed a quick smile. Inara nodded, flattered and infuriated. “Thank you Mal, charming as sometimes.” Mal grinned more wickedly this time – but now Inara was gazing across the broad field and over at the horses. “A man could get used to this…” She murmured. “Really?” Reynolds feigned ignorance – and poorly. “Seems a load to manage if y’ask me – what with the horses, the racing, the big house on the hill – upkeep alone must cost a great deal of coin…” “Mm-hm.” “Still, I won’t pretend to be churlish when it comes to restful chances for my crew. I’m glad of ‘em.” “I’m sure they are too,” – was that a twinkle in the Serra eyes? – “I thought River would explode when she got to cartwheel on real grass.” Mal looked at Inara, meeting those dark eyes with his own – but swift. “Yeah – aint she the strangest mix of girl parts though?” Inara’s eyebrow arched as she said, “I thought she was just a child to you Mal” - and Reynold’s hand flashed up a warning sign. “Now don’t be misinterpreting me – I just meant the child and the adult all blended awry.” Doctor Simon Tam had been strolling up to the pair and overheard the last. “Blended awry Captain? That’s a real – that’s an interesting way of describing the Alliance treatment of my sister.” Mal shrugged that off. “And she would be whereabouts now?” Simon smiled. “River is with Zoe, watching the race – I am on my way to them now.” “Oh really?” Mal pretended not to hear Inara’s open sigh - Merciful Budha, how she hated these testosterone tossing competitions. “And Kaylee?” “Wha-?” Simon was momentarily discomfited. “I don’t – I mean I guess, maybe she’s…” “Stables.” All three answered with the same breath – and this time the laughter was genuine. “If you’ll excuse me,” Inara motioned with a sway of her head. “Oh. Of course.” Damn if Simon didn’t near click his heel together at the woman. Mal kept his tongue in his mouth for once – smiled at Inara till her lithe form was some distance walked. Then he pounced. “Nice boots.” He gestured with his eyes. Simon was, point of fact, clad in a long pair of slick black knee breaches. Perfect for a stroll round the homestead. “You pack them on an off chance?” The Doctor was lost for words. “MOVE YER BLEEDIN ARSE!” River Tam’s angry yelp rose clear of the subdued stalls around her. Subdued for an instant only before there was an irate chorus of angry shushes and tuts. River answered with a poke of the tongue. Zoe kept quiet – but her grip on the Tam girl was iron, pulling her down back into her seat. She gazed calmly at the fine horses making their fifth turn on the track – and the red in the way of her eyes cleared quickly. It came back. A small eager featured man was pushing his way between them. One hand flicking at the slicked thin hair on his fist shaped head, the other proffering a hat in some sort of greeting. “I knoo you fer a lady the minute I clapped my peepers on yer!” Badger was actually beaming. As Zoe recoiled, River Tam turned – her face wore a broad theatrical dame’s displeasure. “Smelt yer comin’ aways off Badger. Now yer ‘ere. Aint that grand.” Her cockney accent was equally stagey. Badger was still beaming – but he found his attempt to scuttle forward blocked by the wall of Zoe’s hand. “Spea

Best of 07...so far

Hey All Every year, I do a ten best list of the best movies of the year. Sometimes people get to read it, but for the most part it's just a hobby of mine to keep me entertained through the year and to engage the more critical part of my undying love for film. Lately, instead of ranking them from 1 through 10, I just put them out there and state why I like them for their own merits. Now, my list up to this point is only half-way finished with some movies that I like a lot, but not enough to consider the best. I'll include these for the time being just as placeholders. Hopefully I'll see five more other movies in the next two months that'll complete the list, although to truly see everything that can be considered "the best", it sometimes takes me well into next year to come up with a definitive list. When I saw the preview for LITTLE CHILDREN, didn't think too much of it. Thought it was AMERICAN BEAUTY without the humor. It finally came to Regina in April when it was just about to be released on DVD, and after seeing that, it shot up the list as one my favorite and best movies of 06. Anyways, these are the five films I've seen so far this year that I consider the best in chronological order. KNOCKED UP - To paraphrase Captain Kirk, "Of all the summer movies I've seen, this was the most...human." Thank God that Judd Apatow has finally achieved the elusive success that he so richly deserved after creating "FREAKS AND GEEKS" and "UNDECLARED". Not only is this film insanely funny (a friend of mine said that she laughed so hard that she couldn't breathe), but it's also a great snapshot of the sudden maturity one inevitably faces in life. Infinitely quotable, unexpectedly real, genuinely emotional, and unstoppably funny. ACROSS THE UNIVERSE - For all intents and purposes, this is TRANSFORMERS for Beatles fans. The plot is merely a clothesline for the kaleidescopic visuals and musical numbers and covers, and the characters are only there to burst out in song and carry it along. But so what? It's a joy to listen to, a treat to watch and an entertaining history of the 60's told through the musings of John, Paul, George and Ringo. MICHAEL CLAYTON - Both a riveting character study and a truly tense legal thriller that never lets up for a second. A film truly for adults that never loses it's intelligence, and a great showcase of actors at their best, particularly Tom Wilkinson as a legal shark turned mad prophet. If he doesn't win for Best Supporting Actor just for the line "I am Shiva, the God of Death", I will be Hulk pissed. THE DARJEELING LIMITED - "Return to form" movies are exciting in that you never know if it'll be this one or the next one. After finally falling in love with Wes Anderson after THE ROYAL TENNENBAUMS, I was immensely let down with the over-designed jerk-off that was THE LIFE AQUATIC WITH STEVE ZISSOU. This made me approach DARJEELING with concern. Imagine my surprise as I stayed during the credits to listen to "Les Champ-Elysee". With this one, Wes takes his eccentric characters (in this case three brothers) out of the dollhouse and puts them on a train through India to re-connect. In doing so, he breaks out of the hermetically sealed universes he normally creates and discovers the world alongside his characters and ultimately discovers a deeper meaning. I dedicate this review of the movie to my friend Trixi, whose taking her own spiritual journey through India. I hope she come back a new woman. GONE BABY GONE - Until I see NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, this is so far the best movie I've seen so far this year. This is three movies in one. It's the best crime thriller since L.A. CONFIDENTIAL. It's a surprisingly powerful morality tale. And it's a glorious plunge into the abject poverty of Boston. Real, butt ugly Bostonians with accents as thick as molasses and places that are shittier than most outhouses overwhelm the Hollywood actors enough to make you feel like you're there. This is the kind of movie that restores your faith in the medium to tell an emotionally devastating story that hau

On the drift....again

So. Beta reader #5 seems to have thrown in the towel. I'm almost ready to do the same. Seriously, what the hell is the problem? It can't be that bad of a story. But I've been trying to tell it for almost two years now, the latter half of which I've spent just trying to get feedback on the first few chapters - it's been over a month already since the last chapter I sent to beta #5. I'm patient to a fault, because I know people get insanely busy with real life et al. I'm reminded quite keenly, however, of what Uncle Joss once said about the bizarre blow of having a story in his head and suddenly not getting to tell it. I really, REALLY want to tell this story, especially now that it's got a good straight and solid direction to go in, but don't think I can do it without a little help. I'm thinking of giving it one more shot, and if beta reader #6 should surface and then go into hiding after the first three or four chapters....well, either give it up or go it alone, I guess. Neither of which I'm much one to do at the moment. There's more to this, and I'm not going to dump it all out here, just....just ONCE, I wish I could tell a story in any genre or medium and get SOME portion of feedback from SOMEWHERE.

Where's my fanfare? What happened to my parade?
Friday, 16 November 2007 18:59:29

I don't know what I was expecting after coming back from military service. I guess I wanted to think of myself as a BDH in my own right. I wanted a big party and balloons and music and people fawning over me. Weren't the case, though. Meh, just as well. I don't feel bad about it. I think I've grown. I learned a lot the last two years. But now I'm back, and before I start the new job search I've got a little time to finish "Heart & Soul," re-start working on my own projects again, and of course hang out with my fine fellow Browncoats. Maybe I'll even find time to socialize; get back into role-playing, or take a couple of classes. Possibilities are endless. Here's to new horizons.

Hey, it's been a while since my last post. I guess that's down to the whole moving out of the parental home to go live on the other side of the country thing. I moved to sunny Glasvegas for the university (woot!), I stayed for the drink. Among other things. Since moving to Glasgow I have... ...run around the Merchant City dressed as a fairy; gone on a drink'n'drug (cheapy cider shots and paracetamol) fuelled cruise with my Irish flatmate and a bunch of his friends (most of whom I couldn't recognise the next morning, and still can't!); become addicted to cheese toasties and Sainsbury's Basics spaghetti in a can; become vaguely uncomfortable about the amount of carb-based weight I've put on and will probably continue to gain; discovered I have a teeny tiny lung capacity of only 2.9 litres (worse than my asthmatic brother); added several new words and phrases to my day-to-day vocabulary (bouish, copious amounts, aww really, sexual, the boi, friggin); become a fan of Dr John Smylie (physical chemistry lecturer - the utter boi!); rediscovered my love of Ribena; become a Student Rep and therefore helped save an entire course from being cancelled to new intakes; been told I need to keep my fixed braces in for another year and then I can get a retainer, making me a twenty-year-old with a thirteen-year-old's mouth; realised I am in no way ready to turn 19; worked very little on my fanfic (three years in the making!); learned how to dance properly (and by that I mean how to dance in a club); visited my first nightclub; saw Vanilla Ice live for an entire three minutes (so loud you couldn't hear anything other than the word "ninja"); dressed as a schoolgirl, the aforementioned fairy and a beach babe; worn shorts in public for the first time in a decade; had my shoulder licked for beer; been woken up at 6am for a fire alarm with an actual fire which later turned out to be an entire fire extinguisher let off in a kitchen; run around shrieking in the dark with a pole-wielding Irishman; proved that I am a terrible cook; worn a lab coat; kissed a christmas tree-turned-surfer dude; worn skinny jeans; run out of socks and pants many many many times because I have no change for the laundry room; become a shopping addict but consistently managed to have no less than £500 in my bank account at any one time (it's a miracle!); decided that watching movies until 3am when you have to get up at 7 to go to work for 8 hours is a great idea; started up a three-person conga line in a supermarket. Oh yes, and I got engaged. Blah blah, 18, too young, no idea what I want. But we're having a looooooooooooooong engagement (between 4 and 6 years, maybe more if I do a PhD) so we have time to be completely sure. Heh, it's funny. This time last year I was quaking in my miniscule boots about meeting his parents. Now I'm absolutely pooping my cotton panties about telling his parents I'm marrying their only son. b

Reposting Fanfic from Charlotte
Saturday, 17 November 2007 17:28:16

Just wanted to give a heads up on a name change. After the hack, I decided to change my userid. Also, I am unable to repost fics on Monday so I'm going to post one today and one tomorrow which I hope is ok. I have a few others but those can wait until next weekend. These two that I am posting now are part of my post-BDM series.

My New Love [thank you to whoever posted about watching CSI Miami on day]

Last blog entry was outdated. Hooray for things getting fixed! "Go Haken, go Haken, it's your website, it's your website!" Sister's in town with her spouse in tow. We're dog sitting right now. They went out last night to a party for some friends at *other* sister's last night and realized that they didn't want to do rock paper scissors over being DD. I offered to watch the poochies while they camped out. They should be back sometime this morning. (coffee's ready and painkillers and water will be out and waiting. Ah to be young and hungover again!) They are very good dogs and son's loving them to bits. Now I just have to decide whether to feed them the last of the food in the bag, or spoil them with people food and make sure they've got dinner tonight... "But you *said* they could have people food as long as it didn't come off my plate.." Cabbage soup? Nah, they aren't leaving until tomorrow. Happy to hear BEB is alive and well, if a tad busy. Any fic writers missing their cheerleading section will be happy to hear that he does intend to pop in again some day. Our egos suffer, but he thrives. It's well and truly snowing here now. We get a break for a few days, but once again we need to find a plow guy/gal. The one that did it here last year has not returned our call yet. We do have the lawn tractor with plow, weights, and chains, but where to keep it and how to get the snow moved anywhere is a much trickier question. That guy doesn't call back we may not have much choice 'cause I ain't a-shovellin' the driveway by hand. Too long. Waaay too long when you get widowmaker snow and you have to get to work. Getting up two hours early every day in February to shovel is not on my list of "fun things to do this winter". I know, I have no sense of adventure. Work continues busy, and I can see more responsibilities and projects coming my way. We just started a 40 hour work week instead of 37.5, and It doesn't really feel that much different. Hopefully the paycheck will. We've still got one nurse out on disability (we still don't know if she's coming back or not), another who really really *needs* to be but she insists she can't afford it, and cranky people who need vacations. I think I maybe kinda fall under that last category too some (many? lotsa?) days. Everybody keeps telling me I look like I'm losing weight. Scales do not agree. Perhaps I'm just getting "worn thin"?

Lost Works and How I'm Handling It...
Sunday, 18 November 2007 21:53:41

Okay, so, i read about the possible RePost Mondays and, honestly, i could do that, but i felt all happy and warmed when i first posted and now...well, i'd like to give other folks all the space they need to re-post. Only two of my storylines went missing in the Giant BSR Hack of 2007, and so here's what i'm offering: if you find you enjoy my writing and you want to know if you've read them all, feel free to private message me (see over there? on the left? big white box in which you can type?) and i'll send you - free of charge! - a pdf file of the two stories: "A Little Slink In It..." and "Tired of Waiting" together in one, easy-to-read fun file! Yay! "A Little Slink..." involves Zoë in a slinky dress and a job going south (6 parts) and "Tired of Waiting" involves paint, Serenity, a Shepherd, Companion, doctor and genius... (one part) More new posts will show up (as i get the inspiration), but these will be put into super-exclusive retirement-like status. This is how i decided to deal...my apologies if this doesn't fit into your ideal dealings. As ever and always, kacidilla

A Day At The Races pt 2
Wednesday, 21 November 2007 10:16:37

Kaylee of course, was not in the stables – hadn’t even occurred to her – instead she was mixing as best she could by the refreshment tent, enjoying the tone of the banter and the fine threads on display. She had walked arm in arm with Shepherd Book, (“You really got a steady arm there Preacher!” – She had told him – “You oughta have someone to hang on it more often.”) but he seemed to disapprove of what he saw and melted away. Jayne was also not in the stables – didn’t like horses AT ALL. Weren’t over fond of any animal (‘cept females) and horses had kind of a mean look. Wild. What he did like was gambling – the winning part anyways, reckoning odds and names using an arcane system all his own. “Yeah, sounds kinda eager – I’ll take her!” he informed one betting Sergeant. He was oblivious too to the glares of the people around him – togged as they were. Told he was ‘possibly in the wrong enclosure’ he simply pulled out his piece, sat with his legs up on the nearest table (didn’t look like it’d hold a manly leg but it did) and growled. “My enclosure now.” The betting sergeant had come to him. “Y’know I should really come here more often…” Jayne enthused – making the Sergeant quail at the prospect. “Now you got any REAL drinks – or is this Skunk Juice all y’got offering for a man with a thirst on him?” …………………………. Pushing his way through the claustrophobic throng under the marquee, Simon Tam smiled with relief when he saw Kaylee. She too smiled – the natural flash of bright that could bring down a light aircraft over a dessert. The Doctor came up to her, close. “Where’s River – have you seen her?” “Oh.” Air traffic was safe once more. “No – I mean – she was with Zoe right? Before? You need her? You need me to help go find her?” Simon nodded awkwardly. “Please – I guess – You think… I’m concerned – being separated too long… I don’t know how it might affect… her.” …………………………. Inara was admiring the delicate flowers fringing the entrance lane to the racetrack when there was a sound of wheels and hooves and a voice calling to her. “Why surely it is – Inara Serra!” She turned to see a dark purple buggy pulled by a sturdy looking dray and driven by a uniformed anonymous-looking man. The buggy itself had decorative Alliance markings and from the passenger seat a white haired face was beaming at her from behind a pair of half rimmed spectacles. For a moment she could place neither face nor voice. She kept the uncertainty out of her own however, “Professor Adams”, she smiled neatly. “Selby.” The wagon was alongside her now - she could see the eccentric features more clearly now, “Inara my dear” said the man affably, “it seems an age.” “Yes – yes it does. Are you here for the race?” The white hair shook like a ragged duster. “No, no - simply enjoying the scenery and a turn in the wagon.” Inara nodded. “Still hard at work on your writing?” “Yes, yes, the fundamental non-connectedness of things is easier to grasp than to elucidate I fear…” He chuckled. “Relationships are perceived where none exist – I remember.” Inara made it sound like a catechism. “But I have a new mathematical muse. May I present Dorian, my companion?” There was a tussle haired lad beside him. “Your reputation precedes you Lady – and the Professor has spoken of you warmly many times.” The Professor himself laughed uproariously. “Always as ‘the one that got away’ I might add!” Inara graced him with a winning smile. “But my interest in your work was genuine, Selby – even when we argued.” “Of course, of course - but I would hardly expect a respectable denizen of Sihnon and her Mother Buddha to embrace my theories.” “And I’m afraid Mathematics was never my strong suit.” The Professor shook a finger. “That - my dear - is well trained false modesty. Ah”, he sighed ruminatively, “the equations you could have inspired… well, never mind. Dorian works wonders. A pleasure, my dear, a pleasure.” The Professor waved again and the wagon rolled off. Inara’s face was unreadable as she watched it go. …………………………. “Cold d

I’m on my last chapter of La Escorpiona. I know how it ends. And I’m upset that it’s not the result I had chosen. I won’t go into details (for the two of you actually read it- how can 90+ read a story and yet 0 people have yet to comment- makes me grr) but all is not well in happy land. I also feel anxiety about ending the series. I know I have made mistakes and yet I want to see the character live “happily ever after.” Yet the challenges still haunt me. Especially since she is deemed Mary-sueish. I don’t know. I feel turned off to write anymore off canon characters. Hell I will probably just stick to reading the stuff. I am glad that my fic is not going to be 50 chapters long. I wish I could write that much. Should I feel this way? Should I make a sequal? A separate this fic?? Is anyone reading this story?

Random Job Venting (Quite Profane, Be Warned)
Thursday, 22 November 2007 01:58:31

Wow... I swear, I only work two days a week, yet I am still surrounded by ignoramuses and an Uber-Bitch. Fuckin' A, but I just got off of work today, and when I did, there was der uber-hund right there- and, right after I sit down, I'm joking with Kristen, and then, bwah, "Well, I won't pay a hundred dollars a month to have you screw around". You know what? Fuck off. Just fuck off. I don't tell you how to fail as a whatever the Hell you do, don't tell me how to work. I swear, her daughter- that's where she got her information from- Hate's EVERYONE, and apparently has it out specifically out for me. Gott Verdammet... Ist mein ungluck, ist wundershurn. Not like whats-her-name, the daughter, ever actually DOES anything in class but complain. Scheise. If only but her mother could see her in actuality, I'd love to watch her try to explain that away. I'm tired of kowtowing to the teen bitch. There is only so much one can take, and I admit that I'll take less shit then most. -Danny

Why? Well, because. I feel 'off' if I don't write every once in awhile. Doing a bit better than last blog, by the way. So I read this article on things men should avoid doing that drive women away. It was like, top ten things that make women wave good-bye or something. I thought it might be interesting, you know, see if any of 'em were turn-offs for me, so I took a gander. But here's what I think was weird: the entire list/article was written from the perspective of not only a first date but a first impression. I thought this was very, very weird. Mayhaps I'm the one that is weird, but I have never, not once, gone to dinner with a guy I barely knew. So I'm reading this and going "Why would this be an issue? Wouldn't she know enough about you to know this/have seen this already?" I didn't know what to think about it. I, myself, am not likely to want to date someone I know nothing about. There's generally been at least a couple weeks of conversation before I've been all that interested in someone, and a few months before I would want a 'date.' And I've never had a random stranger ask me out. Hit on me, yeah, but not the classic "We should go to dinner sometime" scenario. Now, I don't think it could be said that the people I tend to be interacting with are very typical people, but I'm sure I have crossed paths with such people in my lifetime, particularly working with the public. So this article got me wondering two things. The first being "Why doesn't anyone advise men to get to know the woman they're interested in before jumping right into a dinner date?" and the second being "Is it weird that I've never gone on a date with someone I didn't know?" I think I had a point when I first started writing this, but it's escaped into the wild.

Turkey Drop from "WKRP in Cincinnati"
Thursday, 22 November 2007 20:16:54

Long before there was "Firefly", there was another short-lived TV show called "WKRP in Cincinnati". It was a hi-larious show about the radio biz in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Like the BDS, it was canceled before its time (it had a low-rated four season run), but not before giving one of the funniest Thanksgiving Day moments ever. In this scene, deejay Les Nessman reports on a Thanksgiving Day/station promotion that doesn't quiet work as well as planned.

Black Hole Sun

I took a picture of the sun, at 5:00pm, back in May/June-ish, and I just found the picture now. It could've seriously damaged my phone. (Which I think it did at one point) but I still loved how it turned out. Take a gander!

The Incident Outside Hunt Lake
Friday, 23 November 2007 12:58:03

Short story time people. ....... after re reading this story in a more awake state... i needs work but a good start no? Michael and Madelyn Owens were twins, born just a few minutes apart in the early thaw leading to spring. Michael was also rumored to be Raewyn Corwin’s boyfriend, haven been seen with her at dances and various other locations together and the fact that Raewyn wore his school ring on her thumb. That’s why when Kaleb Hayes and Madelyn drove into Hunt Lake that rainy June night, leaving Madelyn in the morgue and Kaleb in the ER, Micheal was the one who was sent to tell Raewyn. Raewyn and Madelyn had been best friends since their swaddling days so she broken down crying it wasn’t a surprise. It was expected. Best friends mourn each other, especially when they die so young. But wasn’t expected was how she acted afterwards. She didn’t reach out and try to find solace in the other girls. She didn’t talk to the counselors the minister sent. She didn’t talk to her mother or Madelyn’s. She sat alone on the shore of the Lake and locked in her room everyday until the incident, until our lives changed forever. The funeral was held off for a week’s span so the rains could stop and the earth to be dry enough for the burial and giving Raewyn enough time to take action. But still its unclear when she broke into the Owens’ home. As far as we can gather she did so the day after she died while the family was still at the morgue and funeral home. Kim Miller saw her outside their home. The Owens still claim since they notice nothing out of place that she didn’t and was there for lying. The protest and turn a blind eye, even when the evidence says other wise. Guess it must be hard to except the truth sometimes. But whatever the truth is all the town knows is that Raewyn changed everyone’s perceptions. Raewyn was asked to say something at the funeral, because as Madelyn best friend, she would have to have some positive and insightful things to say about her. It was expected. She wasn’t in the chapel when it the minister started the service. She wasn’t there when Mrs. Owens talked about her daughter nor when the Mr. Owens told the mourning mass about Madelyn’s childhood. She wasn’t there when Michael wept his tale of his sister. She wasn’t there when the minister told of hers family and friends. We didn’t think she was showing by then so when she banged open the doors at the minister’s end we all jumped. She was a shocking sight among the black cloaked mourners dressed in Madelyn’s favorite pink t-shirt and worn black jeans. She walked quickly down the aisle with determination a flamed in her eyes and her arms filled with bound pieces printer papers and worn journal. She stopped only to whisper in Kaleb’s ear and him to return the gesture. When Kaleb got up and hobbled out we had no idea what we where in for. She took the podium and ignored the minister’s whisper of reassurance and cast her gaze upon us. With a shaky breath she enlightened us. “I was asked to speak to you to tell you about Madelyn. I was asked because I was her friend. I was asked because if you want to impact drama and tragedy the peers give the best story and make you feel better that we still mourn for the youth, that we still feel pain. But though I was chosen for the wrong reasons, still I choose to talk because Madelyn deserves to be truly known. “I don’t know what I can really tell you that you didn’t hear already. About there girl you saw and thought you knew. Who you thought you saw. So I’m not going to say anything. I’m going to let Madelyn to the talking instead.” She flipped through the crisp paper in her bound paper booklet towards the end and held it up for all to see. “Madelyn wrote this- she wrote this just a few days before her accident. I think she would like you to hear her words, the words she never got to say.” With that she set back down the papers and started with a shaky breath. “I have often in the past found myself wondering why. Why is this happening, why am I different, why will I break my mothers hea

Just an update

Hi there, I haven't been around much this week, I got a job. It's only temporary over Christmas but, hey, it pays so I don't care. I'm working in the electrical department at Tesco. I say working in the electrical department but I've spent the week in the entertainment department. Anyway, it's going ok, the people are nice. And I also plan to re-upload my old walls into the BSR. As soon as I remember to fetch my pen drive from upstairs. Sone are lost forever but I backed most of them up. TTFN Jennifer -x-

Too many questions
Sunday, 25 November 2007 17:46:34

Fanfiction is pretty much written to answer questions, I know. Sometimes the question is small. What would happen if River tried to bake cookies? What do Jayne’s letters to his mother look like? And other times the question is big. What if Mal and Inara finally got together? What if Niska came back? What was it like growing up on Osiris? Lastly is the epic. What happens after the BDM? Unfortunately, if you’re writing anything longer than oneshots, and sometimes even with those, that question isn’t the only one you’ll have to answer. I was watching the series, usually where inspiration for fanfiction comes from, and noticed that Simon and River are very out of place in the first couple of episodes, but are fairly well integrated by the beginning of the episode Safe. My question was: how did that happen? And of course, I tried to answer it through fanfiction. But then I found that there were other questions I had to answer, before I could answer that one. What is the exact layout of the ship? What are the designs of the guest cabins? Where are the bathrooms/sinks? Those answers, kind of necessary just for background description, were simple to get. But then I had to consider: what kind of luggage did Simon bring? He has an encyclopedia and a medkit, and definitely a wardrobe, but what other things would someone like that bring to start a new life? And then I noticed that since River was naked in the cryo box, we only see her wearing Inara’s robe and something that might be Simon’s shirt in Serenity, but by the Train Job she has her own clothes. Where did those come from? Is clothes shortage the reason why she’s always barefoot? While further examining the episode Serenity, I had to wonder: do all the crew sleep at the same time? Without sunrise and sunset, what kind of time is kept on Serenity? Then I noticed: there are no clocks, but they speak of hours and minutes. Do they all have pocketwatches we never see? How do they meet for the regular meals Mal speaks of? Why does Book stay on the ship, and how did that happen? What does the crew other than Jayne think about Book and Simon and River staying on? Simon and Book have chores by Shindig, so when did they get assigned them? How does the chore system work on Serenity? Why doesn’t River have chores? Speaking of River...Simon says she has paranoid schizophrenia in Safe, but when did he decide that? Why is her behavior different in the pilot than every other episode, and does it have anything to do with the shock of cryogenic freezing? How did being woken early affect her? What about any medications she was on at the Academy? Does Simon give her any medications until after Ariel? How does he care for her until he decides that she’s schizophrenic? And then, of course, the relationships. What sort of relationship do Wash and Kaylee have, considering they’re usually the ones stuck on the ship while the others go on a job pre-pilot? Does Wash really have a relationship with anyone but Zoe that’s not confrontational or ridiculing? He and Zoe seem to be a little separate, but also protective, especially of Simon and River in the first episode...how does that work? Inara and Book are pretty much the only ones other than Kaylee to actually interact kindly with the Tams, though...what kind of relationships are going on there, and how and why do they happen? Do jobs ever go smooth for the crew? It seems like they must, or they’d be out of business, so do they have boring jobs off camera? And during those boring jobs, especially the long flights in space, what do the crew do? We’ve seen spaceball, dominoes, chinese checkers, tall card, horseshoes, weightlifting...what else might they do? Are there any books on Serenity besides Shepherd’s Bible and Simon’s encyclopedia? What about music? Does Jayne ever play his guitar like on Haven? Does he do anything but clean his guns and lift weights? What exactly is the foodstuff on Serenity? Is protein flavorless, or do the “colors of the rainbow” mean different types? Did Book bring anything but tomatoes and strawberrie

A DAY AT THE RACES 3
Monday, 26 November 2007 11:18:13

Shepherd Book entered Serenity’s cockpit, noting the usual chaotic array of dangling wires, switches, plugs, dust and… toys - usual for Serenity, of course. There was a loud snoring from the pilot’s seat. Book coughed discreetly. “Gah! Wha-? Uhh? Of course the king of the dinosaurs is a woman – the fierce and mighty Alleyneasarus – hnnh?” The Shepherd coughed again. “Actually it’s me.” Wash’s red face cooled some. “Sheesh, I thought – never mind. Hey wasn’t I, um…?” The Shepherd nodded. “Interesting that while the rest of the crew are out playing, you choose this time for… relaxation. Not over fond of the soil, are you son?” Wash looked embarrassed. “Well, y’know…” his fingers found random controls. “Someone has to stay behind and… do the… thing. The important - switch flicking – thing.” The Shepherd stared into the viewer for himself. “Does my asking make you uncomfortable? I don’t mean to pry.” And yet there is the prying – thought Wash. Out loud he heard himself say, “No, no – it’s fine. We all got a past – eh Preach’? But let’s just say I like to be useful – and I’m most useful here – The others? Well, Zoe and Mal – heroes of the Valley … I’m more Lily of the valley… or hero of the really should get round to cleaning Serenity’s windows and ooh look, dashboard lights, pretty.” He grinned depreciatively. Book was still absorbed by the viewer. “Hmm. A chip on the shoulder doesn’t have to be a cross to bare, son.” Wash raised his hands in mock surrender. “Yeah – but it’s but part of my shtick. Yknow?” “A shtick – yes. But why beat yourself with it?” Wash was taken aback: “Wow -You’re really makin’ with the deep today Shepherd. Or is that usual? – ‘And Lo, it is written that when a crew numbering seven be departed from thy sight – a Shepherd shall interrogate those left behind – and possibly throw in a little philosophication. No extra charge’.” Looking up from the viewer now, Book sighed and turned to go. Wash look apologetic and said quickly, “Oh hey – Did I mention facetious as well as chippy? That’s me. Y’don’t have to go…” “I think Serenity’s windows need a little cleaning. I’m going to fetch a bucket.” ……………………………………. Moments of rescue are often happy accidents – Simon had wondered why medical research voiced the truth of this so infrequently… there had, after all, been many classic examples of serendipity and – and – and did it really have to be Jayne Cobb choking to death right now in the middle of a marquee filled with rich patrons all looking the other way? He looked at Kaylee for an instant – she was looking at the choking gluttonous figure before them. Jayne for his part did not notice either of them, preoccupied as he was with dyin’ - and cursin the plates of food he’d already gulped down - and wonderin’ on how his un-heroic demise might be dressed up some for his mother. If he came back ghostsome he could make sure that Mal… and then even his thoughts were just choked off… He didn’t even notice the strong slim arms that encircled him – but he sure as hell felt the sudden forceful pressure on his gut. An animal sound escaped him – and so, and with bullet like rapidity – did a single dry pea. Simon Tam stepped back from the gasping mercenary. Watched him carefully as he struggled upright. For a moment – even after turning to face him, Simon could see that Jayne was struggling to focus. A moment like that – in front of Jayne Cobb, was a dangerous thing. It was down to Kaylee to bring him to his senses. “Thank the Doc’ then you hwang chian – hell, he just saved your life is all! ” Jayne tilted his head. “Thanks,” he acknowledged gruffly. “That a little something they teach you at – Doc’ School?” Simon nodded, still watching carefully as Jayne’s face returned to a normal colour and his breathing eased. “Yes, the Heimlich manoeuvre.” Jayne looked unconvinced, “The what now?” - But Simon was grinning. “Heimlich. Actually it’s a funny story-” “Doubt that. Now where’s the ruttin’ pea?” Jayne was suddenly on his hands and knees – sniffing and squinting suspiciousl

the conclusion concluded!

The unexpected bid for freedom seemed to inspire the others – instantly there was uproar, neighing, whinnying and kicking. Two horses managed to kick doors open and charged into the enclosure, in a cloud of dust they circled each other – their eyes suddenly wild. Reynolds tried to keep a watch on his intended but the creature leapt over the enclosure gate and into the paddock. The other free stallions quickly followed – now it was indeed a race, albeit unintended, unlooked for and most assuredly unfortunate. People were running down to see what was the fuss. People became a throng – the throng became a crowd – the crowd began to turn into a mob. At that point Captain Malcolm Reynolds gave up any notion of Horsenapping and took to his heels. Bringing ANY of the damn beasts back would take a better man than he. ………………………………………………………………….. Serenity – it was often pointed out, was a name both apt and ironic. Apt because every member of the crew looked to find some sense of personal peace therein - ironic since so little peace was there to be had. The crewmembers in the loading bay, - Inara, Simon, Kaylee, Jayne, The Captain and his petulant looking associate, - were indistinguishable from their curses and accusations. Sarcasm, insult, charge, appeal and invective were being hurled with force. Most, it should be pointed out, in the director of Malcolm Reynolds and the man known as Badger. They gave no ground easy – and the metallic bay echoed and rang. Only one figure, slipping in barely noticed from the furore outside to the hurly-burly on in, was quiet. Weren’t silent though. “Flowers for the Lay-dee – Candy from a Baby…” River Tam was crooning to herself – not uncommon in the girl. The sleeves of her woollen jersey were hanging down, stretched well past her hands – and flapping in a manner all too similar to a strait jacket. This disturbed her. “Not wearing again – not fitting for a lady – lay-dee, candy from a baby.” She came from behind the assembled crew – with the usual result that they jumped as startled, saving the Captain himself. Can’t startle the man, noted River carefully as she moved in front of him and released her fisted hands. A hoard of objects, bric-a-brac in the main, fell from each sleeve and into two loose piles. She looked the Captain in the eye. “Within the parameters of an Imperial system – artificial currency has no value compared to the fair trade of skills and resources.” Reynolds looked down at the piles. “Candy from a baby,” River added. Mal considered for a moment as he folded his arms - then looked up and across at Badger. “This your idea?” Badger’s face appeared to be folding in on itself. “Don’t blame me – I might’ve joked about – and in the bother YOU stirred up - maybe she” - he was cut off by Simon, the young doctor grabbed him roughly by the lapels. Relief at River’s sudden reappearance had been replaced by concern – then anger. “What did you do to her?” he demanded. River herself was laughing. “Just a game – too easy – takings too easy.” Badger was poking Simon with a small pistol. “Back off sunshine – very touchin’ Mister, alright – but touchin’ is also dangerous when it comes to my person – y’got that? Don’t blame me if the lady has talents…” Simon clenched his jaw, eyeing the gun warily. “Exploiting her – I ought to…” but Badger was ignoring him now and smiling ingratiatingly at River. “I wouldn’t complain about easy takings, Lady. Smooth aint to be narked at.” Mal was looking amused and irritated at the same time. Of all the crew, only Inara could balance both emotions so perfectly. “Well – it’s done now – rightly or wrongly - or just plain oddly, as the case may be.” He nodded to Badger. “Mess with my crew again Badger and I’ll consider it unfriendly… Guess this loot’ll be ours now.” He didn’t move to pick anything up – that would just be plain undignified - instead a gleeful Jayne scooped up two big armfuls. Mal let him know with his eyes to keep the stuff in plain sight – and the big man moved to a work surface and began picking through

Yep, my little hamster-powered box has finally fallen over and croaked. Which is horrifically bad news, because all my demented scribbling is now locked up inside it until I can get at the hard drive and transfer it. So, basically, 'Tic Tac Tao' is in a holding pattern - I'm back to notebooks. Hopefully, this won't be a long delay, and I can still get my e-mail through other terminals. But I'm feeling very cut off and twitchy, and will not be able to lurk about and poison minds with my usual aplomb. Gorram catalyzer...

Man oh my what a couple of days
Tuesday, 27 November 2007 02:17:19

I am never suprised by how the terrain can go from go to bad in such short order. I have finished University for the year *insert fireworks here*. But i have to register for my courses for next year and i sent off a draft list of the courses i thought i might take to the coordinator and recieved a simple response of 'Come see me at 11am Wednesday" Ai ya. Also a mate of mine from High school died in a Car crash on Sunday. I spent last night down at the local watering hole comforting my mates. Also yesterday my dad's favourite foal went through a fence got tangled up and copped a massive shock from the electric fence. Is now off to the Vets along with my heart broken father who is no doubt hoping to save the foal. But it doesn't look too good. Also on a side note i wont go into specifics as to why (no it aint another one of those cases) but punching a priest in the face how likely is that to create bad Karma. Because the piece of Go Se if a father to someone i care for deeply. In fact i gave her the title of Boa Bei and he infuriates the hell out of me with his wun gwo pee attitude. Ahh never mind i guess it's most likely that everything else is getting to me just a little bit. On a slightly happier note i am writing again.

The 'verse in my life.
Wednesday, 28 November 2007 09:49:43

Figured it's about time I actually started blogging, so here we are then. Dunno how many people, or who either, will read this, but if you do, thanks for taking the time. Just lately, I've been more, well obsessed is the word I suppose, about firefly. Normally I'll every so often just say something about firefly in the middle of a conversation, even when it has no bearing at all. But I haven't been watching anything of it for some time now, and the flame in my heart has been rekindled. Now I'm finding myself bringing the 'verse in as much as I can to absolutely ANYTHING. In particular, I've done a lot of thinkin' 'bout all the shiny people in the verse, and also the shiny people who made it possible. Wash is by far and large the funniest guy in the 'verse, and most definately my favourite, and I find myself thinking up more and more wash quotes to put as my tag in Messenger in appreciation for the person that was created by making Firefly. Even better though, I've been shown this website with loads of firefly gear on it. If I could, I'd be selling every wobbly headed doll under the sun to some middleman just to get enough cashy money to buy some gorram good gear. Although, that particular place is off limits without a liscensed companion (well, way of paying in dollars from the UK, same kinda idea when ya think on it) it's a damn sight harder. But at least I've got something to aim for. I suppose that the point of this blog is that, I love Firefly. Who doesn't? But more than that, I love every shiny shiny person who put in their best and hearts into making it as good as it was. Quite appropriate really, in "Jaynestown", Book said to River "It's about letting it be real enough to change you" (or something like that, can't find the specifics what with being at school and having an active content filter being shoved up my pee-goo). Either way, Firefly was real enough, and it has changed me. And I thank every shiny shiny person who was involved in making Firefly (and serenity of course, it's implied with ever mention of firefly) for making it such a great phenomenon, that has really made me appreciate human resiliance, to do whatever we can to keep that which we are no matter what the odds are. But also that you should never take your Government for granted, and you should always stand up for your beliefs.

Surprise!
Thursday, 29 November 2007 16:54:35

Well I got a nice surprise, I was logging on to upload some of my stories that were lost cuz of the goram hacker and find that most of my stuff has been recovered! There still a bit missing but that is infinitely better than all! Will re-post them eventually and I have finished possibilities, and I will re-write the somewhat uninspired end to eve's garden that some of you commented on. Thanks for all the great suggestions, and look forward to all the ones in future! MerryWyn (merry when i want to be!)
