Who knows...I might even dust off Caption Tightpants... -TCM-

Happy 2009 everybody! Now that that's over with... Odd thought of the day: I was looking up Chinese symbols for some River-centric fiction I'm working on, and I now wonder if the show was actually more well researched than I thought. It's true that apples are a great prop on-set because they last forever, shine up real good, and don't break easily, but I thought this symbol too good to miss. Here's why--according to one symbolism site: "A basket of apples signifies peace and harmony" That's why Zoe and the Cap'n always cut theirs, specially when they're from the Feds--makes sure there's remaining peace and quiet afterwards. Grenades will ruin your day. Oh, the irony! Anybody find any unintentional little tidbits about the show like that in 2008(or earlier :))?

Our Mrs. Reynolds Quotes Jayne: Well, I think you might want to reconsider that last part. See, I married me a powerful ugly creature. Mal: How can you say that? How can you shame me in front of new people? Jayne: If I could make you prettier, I would. Mal: You are not the man I met a year ago. Mal: But if your hand touches metal, I swear by my pretty floral bonnet, I will end you. Inara: So, explain to me again why Zoe wasn't in the dress? Mal: Tactics, woman! Needed her in the back. Besides, them soft cotton dresses feel kind of nice. There's a whole airflow. Mal: Zoe, why do I have a wife? Jayne: You got a wife? All I got is that dumb-ass stick sounds like it's raining. How come you got a wife? Mal: Zoe, would you get Wash? Zoe: This is Zoe. We need all personnel in the cargo bay. Mal: 'All?' I said Wash. Zoe: Captain, everyone should have a chance to congratulate you on your day of bliss. Mal: There's no bliss. I don't know this girl! Jayne: Then can I know her? Wash: We'd always hoped you two kids would get together. Who is she? Mal: She's no one. Kaylee: Captain! Mal: Would you stop that? Saffron: I'm sorry. Wash: You brute. Kaylee: Oh sweetie, don't feel bad. He makes everybody cry. He's like a monster. Mal: I'm not a monster! Mal: How drunk was I last night? Jayne: I don't know. I passed out. Mal: Someone ever tries to kill you, you try to kill 'em right back! Mal: You got the right, same as anyone, to live and try to kill people. You know, people that are... it's a dumb planet! Book: If you take sexual advantage of her, you're going to burn in a very special level of hell. A level they reserve for child molesters and people who talk at the theater. Mal: Wha...? I am not... Preacher, you've got a smutty mind! Zoe: So... are you enjoying your own nubile little slave girl? Mal: She wanted to make me dinner. At least she's not crying. Wash: I might. Did she really make fresh bao? Quaint! Zoe: Remember that sex we were planning to have ever again? Mal: I would appreciate it if one person on this boat would not assume I'm an evil, lecherous hump. Zoe: No one's saying that, sir. Wash: Yeah, we're pretty much just giving each other significant glances and laughing incessantly. Mal: Can I come in? Inara: No. Mal: See, that's why I usually don't ask. Mal: Are you offering me a trade? Jayne: A trade?! Hell, it's theft. This is the best damn gun made by man. It has extreme sentimental value. It's miles more worthy than what you got. Mal: What I got? She has a name. Jayne: So does this! Call it Vera. Mal: Well, my days of taking you seriously are certainly coming to a middle. Wash: Every planet has its own weird customs. About a year before we met, I spent six weeks on a moon where the principal form of recreation was juggling geese. My hand to god. Baby geese - gosslings - they were juggled. Mal: It's been a while, a long damn while, since anybody but me took a hold of my plow, so don't think for a second that I'm not interested. Mal: Oh, I'm going to go to the special hell. Wash: I wish I was somebody else right now. Somebody not married, not madly in love with a beautiful woman who can kill me with her pinky. Saffron: I've been too forward. Wash: Nooo... well, yes, but I actually like that in a woman. That's why Zoe and I are, as previously mentioned, married. Saffron: I thought... she didn't seem to respect you. Wash: Not everybody gets me and Zoe at first glance. Did it get very hot in here? I need airflow. Saffron: You love her very much. Wash: Yeah. I never did meet anyonce quite like Zoe. Mal: Is it Christmas? Simon: Well, he's back. Mal: What happened about me? Zoe: So you two were kissing? Book: Well, isn't that... special. Zoe: My man would never fall for that cheap whore. Wash: Most of my head wishes I had. Book: You were victimized, Wash was beaten, and Inara found you here. Inara: Yeah, and then I fell. My head got hurt like Wash. Mal: I don't get any of this. Inara: I only fell is al

Jaynestown Kaylee: Come on, admit it, it's true. Simon: No, I won't, because it's not. I use swear words like anybody else. Kaylee: Simon, the whole point of swearing is that it ain't appropriate. Simon: Oh! Kaylee: Now, this would be the perfect time for a swear word. Simon: My god -- you're like a trained ape. Without the training. Mal: Canton don't allow guns in their town Jayne: Yes sir. That's why I ain't strapping one to my hip. Simon: Canton really...stinks. Mal: That's what makes it such a great drop point. No one comes here that doesn't have to. Wash: I vote we do this job really, really fast. Simon: All right. Fine. I'll go. Just stop describing me. Mal: You're the boss, boss. Jayne: He's the boss now? Day keeps getting better and better. Wash: What happened to Simon? Who is this diabolical master of disguise? Kaylee: He's learning. Mal: Jayne? Jayne: Yeah? Mal: You want to tell me how come there's a statue of you here looking at me like I owe him something? Jayne: Wishing I could, Captain. Mal: No, seriously, Jayne, you want to tell me? Jayne: Look, Mal, I got no ruttin' idea. I was here a few years back, like I said. Pulled a second-story, stole a lot of scratch from the magistrate up on the hill. But things went way South. I had to hightail it. They don't...put you on a pedestal in town square for that. Mal: Yeah, except I'm looking at some fair compelling evidence says they do. Simon: This must be what going mad feels like. Wash: I think they captured him, though - you know...captured his essence. Kaylee: Looks sort of angry, don't he? Wash: That's kinda what I meant. Book: Give me that. River, you don't...fix the Bible. River: It's broken. Doesn't make sense. Book: It's not about making sense. It's about believing in something and letting that belief be real enough to change your life. It's about faith. You don't fix faith, River. It fixes you. You hang on to those, now. Jayne: Can't be a statue of me. No reason for it. Flies in the face of every kind of sense. Mal: Won't argue with that. Busker: Jayne, The man we call Jayne, He robbedf rom the rich and he gave to the poor Stood up to the Man and he gave him what for, Our love for him now ain't hard to explain, The Hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne, Our Jayne saw the Mudders' backs breaking, He saw the Mudders lament And he saw the, magistrate taking Every dollar and leaving five cents, So he said, "You can't do that to my people" He said... Mal: Um...Jayne? Jayne: Yeah, Mal? Mal: You got any light you'd like to shed on this development? Jayne: No, Mal. Simon: No. This must be what going mad feels like. Mudders: Our love for him now ain't hard to explain, The Hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne Busker: Now here is what separates heroes, From common folk like you and I The man they call Jayne, He turned 'round his plane, And let that money hit the sky Wash: We gotta go to the crappy town where I'm the hero! River: Hello? Book: In here, River River: I'm...I tore these out of your symbol and they turned into paper. But I want to put them back, so... Inara: As I've said, this room is a consecrated place of union. Only your son belongs here. Higgins: Well, I'm... Inara: Now, why don't you go on, and let us begin our work. Higgins: Now listen here, young lady... Inara: Good night, Mr. Higgins. Simon: You know, I've saved lives. Dozens. Maybe hundreds. I reattached a girl's leg. Her whole leg. She named her hamster after me. I got a hamster. He drops a box of money, he gets a town. Simon: To Jayne! The box-dropping, man-ape-gone-wrong-thing. Kaylee: You are pretty funny. Simon: And you're pretty....pretty. Kaylee: What did you just say? Simon: I just said that you're pretty. Even when you're covered in...engine grease, you're... No, especially, especially when you're covered in engine grease. Book: River? Why don't you come out? River: No! I can't. Too much hair. Wash: Did you know that Jayne is a bona fide folk hero? Got a song and everythin

As I write this I'm working on my story Birthday and it's also my own birthday. As I turn 42 this day, I'm hoping 2009 will be better than 2008 was. However so far is not so good. I got laid off. I was fired from my full time job last June and it took me until late October to find even a temporary, 24 hour a week part time job. Now that job has ended. My boss assured me that I did a great job and if they bring anyone back, I'm at the top of the list. Right now I can only work part time on the weekends because of my girlfriends Cancer treatment. She starts a five day a week radiation regimen in two weeks and the treatment may affect her vision so she can't drive. So here I am, back on full unemployment. Okay... Pity party over! Back to the Allenverse! Birthday is almost finished. When that's done my next story will be a flashback story. What forces shaped Allan into the man he is. After that, I need to come up with a storyline that gets Oso and Fred together. Then I think I'll work on the sequel to Heritage. Gotta have more Sara. Much to keep me busy. Brian

Always heard about Firefly in the past, but never really looked into it. Finally took the time to watch Serenity this past weekend on SciFi, and was really captivated. There hasn't been a lot of good SciFi out there for a while - I did love Farscape and the original Stargate SG1, but I can't bring myself to be a devout fan of BSG - Perhaps if they would have stuck just a little closer to cannon.... I digress. I have been watching the latest Terminator series with much interest – mostly for the Cameron character (they too are really screwing with cannon). I’m really into martial arts, and she kicks some serious arse. To my delight the actress was River before being Cameron. My gawd – the final battle between River and the hoard of Reavers was just plain awesome. Don’t get me wrong, the battle of Mal and The Operative was equally cool too – especially when The Operative’s paralysis of Mal failed. So, I’m hooked – sadly it looks like a little too late though. I defiantly be getting the Firefly boxed set though..

Out of Gas [Flashback to Mal trying to sell Zoe on the worthiness of his new ship.] Zoe: Sir... you paid money for this? On purpose? ... Mal: Ship like this, be with you till the day you die. Zoe: Because it's a death trap. . . . Mal: Try to see past what she is, and on to what she can be. Zoe: What's that, sir? Mal: Freedom, is what. Zoe: [pointing] I meant, what's that? Mal: Oh. Yeah, just step around that. I think something must've been living in here. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mal: I tell you, Zoe, we get a mechanic, get her runnin' again, hire a good pilot, maybe a cook - live like real people. Small crew, them as feel the need to be free, take jobs as they come, ain't never have to be under the heel of nobody ever again. No matter how long the arm of the Alliance might get... we'll just get ourselves a little further. Zoe: Get her running again? Mal: Yeah. Zoe: So not running now? Mal: Not so much. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [In near-present day, Wash comes in late to hear Book's dinner-table tales.] Wash: Monastic humor. I miss out on all the fun. . . . [Simon is unable to quickly convey a funny story about being a doctor] Jayne: [interrupting] What about Inara? Bet she's got some funny whoring stories. Inara: Do I ever! Funny and sexy. You have no idea... and you never will. . . . [The crew surprises Simon with a birthday cake.] Simon: How did… how did you know? River, did you…? River: "Day" is a vestigial mode of time measurement, based on solar cycles. It's not applicable. [pauses] I didn't get you anything. . . . Kaylee: Hope you like it. Couldn't get a hold of no flour, so it's mostly protein. In fact, it's pretty much what we just had for supper. But I tried to make the frosting as chocolate-y tasting as possible. Simon: I'm really, um, I'm very, very deeply moved. Thank you. Jayne: Well… deeply move yourself to blow out them candles, so we can try a slice. [After the fire is contained, Kaylee reports on the accident.] Kaylee: Catalyzer on the port compression coil blew. It's where the trouble started. Mal: Okay, I need that in captain dummy-talk, Kaylee. Kaylee: We're dead in the water. . . . [Kaylee discusses the loss of life support, especially oxygen.] Mal: How long? Kaylee: A couple of hours, maybe. We'll start to feel it… and then we won't feel nothin' at all. Simon: Suffocation's not exactly the most dignified way to go. The human body will involuntarily— Inara: Please, I don't really require a clinical description right now. Simon: I'm sorry. I just, uh… It was my birthday. [River peeks in on Book, who is reading his Bible.] River: You're afraid we're going to run out of air. That we'll die gasping. But we won't. That's not going to happen. [Book looks up at her, hopefully.] River: We'll freeze to death first. Kaylee: Sometimes, something gets broke...can't be fixed. Mal: I'm gettin' a little weary of this attitude, Wash. Wash: [chuckling] Are you? Well, I'm so very sorry, sir. I guess the news that we're all gonna be purple and bloated and fetal in a few hours has made me a little snippy. . . . [The coversation continues in a shouting fashion.] Wash: What do you expect me to do, Mal? Mal: Whatever you have to! And if you can't do it from here, then get a suit on and go outside on the side of the boat— Wash: And what?! Wave my arms around? Mal: Wave your arms around, jump up and down, divert the navsats to the transmitter… whatever. Wash: Divert the— Right! Because teenage pranks are fun when you're about to die! Mal: It'd give the beacon a boost, wouldn't it? Wash: Yes! It would boost the signal. But even if some passerby did happen to receive, all it would do is muck up their navigation! Mal: Could be that's true. Wash: Damn right it's true! They'd be forced to stop and dig out our signal before they could even go anyplace. [Mal stares at Wash.

I will be working on the next chapter and final two of Cat before long. I have the last written, but need the filler like the big fight between our BDHs and Falcon. :fork: There are also some little stories in the work too like the one at Christmas so Cat will not be disappearing anytime soon. Also have Angelle who still have quite an adventure ahead of her with the Alliance and Atherton at the head making the gator look like child's play. [b]SPOILER for chpt 14: [/b]A note here about the name of the albino. I wanted the name to mean something to Mal like Serenity and the way he cares for Angelle, I knew he would give it some thought. I didn't like the idea of calling it Wash because that would be too personal to him and to Zoe. So I chose the first name of our beloved pilot since Washburne is rather long. I hope you all agree.

Ariel [The crew talks about their upcoming visit to core planet Ariel while they eat.] Wash: Big stop just to renew your license to Companion. Can I use "Companion" as a verb? . . . [Jayne hocks some spit to help sharpen his knife.] Simon: Could you not do that while we're… ever? [Jayne spits again] Wash: So, two days in a hospital? That's awful! Don't you just hate doctors? Simon: Hey! [Unobserved by anyone, River pulls a huge carving knife out of the kitchen rack.] Wash: I mean, present company excluded. Jayne: Let's not be excludin' people. [grins] That'd be rude. [Suddenly, River slashes Jayne in the chest.] . . . River: He looks better in red. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Coached by Simon, the crew prepares to impersonate emergency medical technicians.] Mal: Patients were cynical, and not responding, and we couldn't bring 'em back. Simon: They were cyanotic… Mal: They were cyanotic… Simon: … and not responsive… Mal: … not responded— responsive… Simon: … and we were unable to… Zoe: Res— Mal: Resuscitate them! . . . Simon: Which methods did you use? Zoe: We— we tried pulmonary stimulators, and— and cardiac… we… Simon: Infusers. Zoe: Infusers! . . . Simon: What about cortical electrodes? Jayne: Oh! [long pause] We forget 'em. Simon: Let's try that again. . . . Mal: Pupils were fixed and dilapitated— Simon: Dilated. Mal: Dilated. Dilated! Ching-wah TSAO duh liou mahng! Shiny. . . . Jayne: Unable to get a neural… Simon: Response. Jayne: Response! Hell, I don't know. If I wanted schooling, I'd-a gone to school. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [The newly-minted "ambulance" opens, and the three faux EMTs emerge.] Simon: If I didn't know better, I'd say you're ready to save some lives! Mal: Now all we need are a couple o' patients. Simon: Corpses, actually. For this to work, River and I will have to be dead. Jayne: Huh. I'm starting to like this plan. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Mal worries about Jayne's commitment to the comatose Simon and River.] Mal: Look, you got a little stabbed the other day. That's bound to make anyone a mite ornery. . . . Jayne: The doc did good, comin' up with that job. Don't mean I like 'im any better. Nothing buys bygones quicker than cash. Maybe I'll give him a tattoo while he's out. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [The faux EMTs wheel in their body containers, ready to do their spiel to get them to the morgue.] Emergency Nurse: What do you got? Mal: Got a couple DOAs. By the time we got there— Emergency Nurse: Take them down to the morgue. [Mal looks at his stunned team. Zoe begins to wheel her container in, but Jayne just stands there.] Jayne: We applied the cortical electrodes, but we were unable to get a neural reaction from either patient! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [A doctor is hassling "EMT" Mal for his insubordination.] Doctor: You must be new. Don't get comfortable. Your type doesn't last long here. When your supervisor hears about the rude and disresp— AGHHH! [He collapses. Behind him, Zoe lowers defibrillator paddles.] Zoe: Clear. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [On the diagnostic table, River screams.] River: No! No! No. They come out of the black. They come when you call. Simon: River, it's okay— it's, it's over. We're leaving. [River looks straight at Jayne.] River: Your toes are in the sand. Jayne: And your head's up your— Simon: Hey! Back off. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Mal and Zoe wheel out the medicine-laden containers.] Wash: How much did we get? Mal: Enough to keep us flying. Zoe: Can we fly somewhere with a beach? Wash: Maybe a naked beach? [Wa

I'm busy working now. A little on scribbling, moreso on working. I just switched to three 12 hour days per week. We'll see if it improves my morale or not. If life doesn't get better at work emotionally over the next six months I'm outta there. Which would really suck because I love the work itself and actually like the patients. (Sigh.) I've got about four pages in the fic done. Pretty pathetic for almost a year, but I've been busy. I'm happy that things are looking pretty interestingly not bad for our BDHs and company workwise. We can but hope that things go well for our favorite actors/writers/directors/craft service workers/etc... I still want more. I'm losing hope. Comic books just aren't cutting it for me, call me unimaginative.

------+-- No-one'd remember me since I was new to forums and didn't post much back when I joined in Aug/Nov 08, anyhow I'm back in the Firefly 'Verse, hopefully to stay :] Things got really hectic and difficult for me in the last few months of 2008, so it's great to be moving onto 2009. And since I'll be in year 11 now I can leave my old school behind *thanx all the deities I can think of* It's great to be enjoying Firefly again! Now I'll have time and energy to spend on rping, and I can rewatch and rewatch and rewatch the eps/movie, not that I havent been watching them all the time X] I must have Serenity: Better Days Vol.3!! So I'm ordering overseas from Dark Horse/Things From Another World.. There's so much shiny merchandise (

I'm derangedmilk, except I ain't. Now I'm DMI (which stands for Deranged Milk Incognito). I no longer have the e-mail address the derangedmilk handle was attached to and therefore never got any e-mails on when my posts were replied to and eventually stopped using the site. But I miss it here. I like all you shiny folks and its time to come back. So, here I am. Nothing much is new I guess. Oh wait I have a blog:

I'd like to apologise to all my readers. Due to circumstances beyond my control (i.e. RealLife, job, family etc) I am not updating as quickly as I'd like. It isn't that I don't want to write - I do - and I have lots of ideas, but the time to do so seems to get away from me, which means chapters seem be coming only once or twice a week at the moment. So bear with me, keep an eye out, and I'll upload when I can. Thanks! Jane :crap:

War Stories [Book quotes fictional warrior-poet and psychotic dictator Shan Yu to Simon.] Book: He said, "Live with a man forty years. Share his house, his meals… speak on every subject… then tie him up, and hold him over the volcano's edge, and on that day, you will finally meet the man." Simon: What if you don't live by a volcano? Book: I suspect he was being poetical. . . . Book: You're moon-lighting as a criminal mastermind now. Got your next heist planned? Simon: No. But, I am thinking of growing a big black mustache. I'm a traditionalist. . . . Book: A government is a body of people; usually, notably ungoverned. Simon: Now you're quoting the Captain. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [River and Kaylee are running recklessly through the cargo bay.] Mal: [to Inara] Ah, the pitter-patter of tiny feet in huge combat boots... [to River and Kaylee] SHUT UP! . . . Mal: One of you is gonna fall and die, and I'm not cleaning it up! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Kaylee triumphantly holds up the apple she wrested from River.] Kaylee: No power in the 'verse… can stop me. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Wash and Zoe are arguing about the extent to which Zoe follows Mal's orders.] Zoe: Is there any way I'm gonna get out of this with honor and dignity? Wash: You're pretty much down to ritual suicide, lamby-toes. ... Zoe: I thought your plan was too risky. I thought. Wash: Then tell me. I am a large, semi-muscular man. I can take it. Zoe: That's right. Because what this marriage needs is one more shouting match. Wash: No, what this marriage needs is one less husband. Right now it's kind of crowded. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- River: Played with Kaylee. The sun came out, and… I walked on my feet, and… heard with my ears. I ate the bits. The bits did stay down. And I work. I… function like I'm a girl. I hate it because I know it'll go away! The sun… goes dark, and chaos is come again. Bits… fluids! What am I? Simon: You... are my beautiful sister. [River and Simon hug] River: I threw up on your bed. Simon: Yep. Definitely my sister. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Repeated line, when Jayne spots Inara with her female client.] Jayne: I'll be in my bunk. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Wash has sabotaged Serenity's shuttle to prevent Zoe from leaving with Mal.] Mal: Okay. I'm lost... I'm angry... and, um, I'm armed. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wash: Hey, I've been in a firefight before. [Pauses] Well, I was in a fire once. [Pauses] Actually, I was fired from a fry cook opportunity...I can handle myself. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Wash and Mal are blindfolded in Niska's torture chamber.] Wash: Mal, she's my wife! Mal: Huh? Wash: What right do you have to put her in a dangerous situation like this? Mal: I didn't! Wash: You did! Mal: She ain't here, Wash! Wash: Yeah, but she would have been! ... Wash: I'm the one she swore to love, honor and obey. Mal: You- [amused] Obey? She swore to obey? Wash: Well, no, not- but that's my point! You she obeys! She obeys you! There's obeying going on right under my nose! ... Mal: You're making out like Zoe just blindly follows my every word, and that ain't true. Wash: Sure it is. Mal: Not so. There have been plenty of orders of mine she didn't obey. Wash: Name one! Mal: She married you! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- [Zoe, Book, and Jayne come across the corpses of the men Mal and Wash were dealing with.] Book: This is precision work. Sharpshooters. From the look of these wounds I'd say a 54-R sniper

Disclaimer: this entry, like nearly all my log entries, is not a recounting of what I did today, so I'm sorry if that's what you browsers were looking for. The following is even more boring. :) I have always wondered why rhyming poetry in English sounds childish--why the brain automatically goes into sing-song kindergarten mode, besides associating it with childhood. I was studying the differences between Modern and Middle English in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight in rhythm, alliteration and rhyme scheme when it suddenly came to me: Rhyming poetry is now seen as infantile because unlike Latin, English has very few complex words which rhyme. Thus we're reduced to 'hate', 'great' etc. Full rhymes in complex words are rare, and partial rhymes never really caught on. Therefore end-rhymed poetry sounds childish in and of itself, since the vocabulary is mostly contained at that level. It is perfect for limericks, ditties and children's stories, but perhaps not sophisticated works of art. Even reading some of the great rhyming poets of the 19th century who wrote in English, it still sounds contrived and maybe a little trite. Another reason: despite having absorbed a lot of French (and Latin) beginning with the Norman invasion, the fundamental poetic form of Anglo-Saxon poetry(therefore English) is alliterative and rhythmic, not end-rhyming, a trend that has persisted strongly more than a thousand years later. Anyone out there asleep yet? zzzzzzzzz.... Class dismissed. Ha.

So I've not been about the verse much lately, but I've recently been reminded of why I love it so much. I was given the Serenity RPG for christmas (by the way I also got a 'cunning' hat and Dr. Horrible) and reading through the book made me realize how inactive I've been here of late. Or make that absent. My passion for the verse had taken a bit of a back burner to a number of other things but this just turned up the heat. I'm now planning on running a game with my friends. To top it all off, I was distracted from housework yesterday by a friend deciding he just HAD to watch my Firefly while he was about. You almost forget how amazing it is sometimes. Than five minutes of any given episode brings it all back. Anyway, it's good to be back.

With a lot to wonder about. Like, when will my wrists fully recover from today's snowboarding adventure so I can type straight, and when the hell will my laptop's scrolling problem ever get worked out. Most saliently, I wonder why all my significant others thus far just have to let the world know how good and happy they feel right after they break up with me. One hell of a commentary, that is. Just one hell of a commentary on the kind of guy I really am.

Yup. That John Wayne classic 'bout an ex-confederate soldier after the Civil War. So there's the Duke and outta his mouth comes this: "Just as sure as the turnin' of the Earth." Hmmm. Gotta figure Joss was payin' homage to this one in "Serenity"???

I really enjoy watching the firefly series and get really into it but once i get about half way throught the episode with the crazy assasin, i soon realise that this is the last one and its game over for firefly. Which totally bums me out so i try and perk myself up by watching the serenity film or listen to jaynes song. Most of the time it works but sometimes it doesnt :disappointed:

I'm a recent fan, thanks to hulu.com. I've been a Joss Whedon fan for a long time, and I thought I would check out Firefly. I was immediately hooked by this family of characters. What I can't seem to understand, though, is why it has so much resonance? Looking for family? A plot without closure? Hope that we can all get by and find a little happiness? I'm quite spun by it all.

Hello Folks, just wanted to let you know that a little over a week ago I made my first Music Video!!! 'twas for my band Carnelian; filming was hi-larious, and extremely COLD. We shot it on a phone, but despite that, I think it came out pretty nifty. You can check it out on Yuntube...here...

Trash [Mal is shown sitting naked on a rock, in the middle of the desert.] Mal: (pause) Yep. That went well. Monty: Mal, I want you to meet my Bridget. [Monty steps aside to reveal Saffron, aka Mrs. Malcolm Reynolds. She and Mal draw guns on each other.] Monty: So… you guys have met. Monty: Damn you, Bridget! Damn you to Hades! You broke my heart in a million pieces! You made me love you, and then you… I shaved off my beard for you, devil woman! [As Saffron rummages through her purse, Malcolm puts a gun to her head.] Mal: You're gonna want to pull your claw out of that bag, nice and slow. Saffron: Relax. I'm not going for a gun or anything. [Saffron pulls out some lipstick.] Saffron: Just freshening up. [Mal takes the lipstick from her and tosses it away.] Mal: You and lipstick are a dangerous combination, if I recall. . . . [Mal frisks Saffron.] Saffron: Mmm. You missed a spot. Mal: Can't miss a place you've never been. Mal: This is my scrap of nowhere. You go on, find your own. Saffron: You can't just leave me here on this lifeless piece-of-crap moon. Mal: I can. Saffron: I'll die. Mal: Well, as a courtesy, you might start getting busy on that, 'cause all this chatter ain't doin' me any kindness. Saffron: Why don't you just go ahead and shoot me then? (Mal points his gun at her.) Saffron: This was all your fault, you know. I had a perfect crime lined up. Mal: Sure. You were gonna steal a man's beard. Saffron: No, you HOE-tze duh PEE-goo! A million-square job. The big time. I was going to cut Monty and his crew in, but you screwed that royal. Mal: Odd, but I don't think I'll be losing sleep over it. Saffron: I've got the layout, entrance codes… Believe me, this practically robs itself. Mal: Bye-bye, now. [Inara cannot find work because Mal is avoiding central planets] Inara: Right, you're a criminal mastermind! What was the last cargo we snuck past the Alliance to transport? Mal: That was a little dif— Inara: What was the cargo? Mal: [pauses, embarrassed] They were dolls. Inara: They were little geisha dolls with big heads that wobbled! Mal: Hey! People love those! Inara: Well, since I can't seem to find work as Companion, I might as well become a petty thief like you! [An uncomfortable silence descends for a moment.] Mal: Petty? Inara: I didn't mean petty. Mal: What did you mean? Inara: Suo-SHEE? Mal: ...That's Chinese for "petty". Mal: Saffron has a notion we can walk right in there, take the Lassiter right off his shelf. Wash: I'm confused. Saffron: You're asking yourself if I've got the security codes, why don't I go in, grab it for myself? Wash: No. Actually, I was wondering… WHAT'S SHE DOING ON THIS SHIP? . . . Wash: We're in space! How'd she get here? Mal: She hitched. Wash: I don't recall pulling over! . . . Jayne: Okay. I got a question. If she's got the security codes, why doesn't she just walk in and grab it herself? Saffron: (sarcastically) Good point! . . . Mal: Zoe? You ain't said a word. Time to weigh in. Zoe: Take sounds ripe enough, assuming we can fence it. Saffron: I know a guy on Persephone. Already has half dozen buyers on the bid. Zoe: But Inara ain't wrong. [She stands to face Saffron.] Zoe: She can't be trusted. Mal: I ain't asking you to trust her. I'll be with her on the inside the whole time. Saffron: See there? All you gotta do to be a rich woman, hon, is… get over it. Zoe: Hmm. Okay. [Zoe belts Saffron, who falls to the floor.] Zoe: I'm in. [Jayne is watching over Simon and River, who are talking about Saffron.] River: She's a liar. Jayne: That don't exactly set her apart from the rest of us. The plunder sounds fun enough. River: She's a liar, and no good will come of her. Jayne: Well, as a rule, I say, girlfolk ain't to be trusted. River: [grinning] "Jayne" is a girl's name. Jayne: Well, Jayne ain't a girl! She starts in on that girl's-name thing, [reaches into his pants] I'll show her good 'n' a

came home from my job, second shift, the other night. My Daughter met me in the courtyard of our building. " Dad, this isn't as bad as it's gonna sound." Oh, gose, what happened now? " There's nobody home down at your house." Mrs. Browncoat ran off with an Alliance type Guy? " The cat didn't mean to hurt anybody." All that gets is a Nathan Fillion " Huh?" look. " Mom's down at the Emergency Room." Oh, yeah, that's as bad as it sounds... We've got these 2 ex-tomcats who sometimes fight. Mrs. NOBC tried to break them up, then got in the middle and tried to pick one up barehanded. Daughter sez it clawed both hands, one real bad, and her leg after she dropped it. Mrs. called Daughter, wanted her to help bandage her up so she could get a taxi or bus to the Hospital Daughter, sensibly enough, woke up Son_In-Law, and they drove her to the Hospital . They got her squared away there, then drove home. Son-In-Law's truck is not 100 % legal, something about outstanding parking tickets, and as they pulled out of the parking lot, a cop car pulled out right behind them. They figured, " Tickets, impound, jail." but all he did was follow then all the way home. So I drove down to the Hospital. Mrs. BC was in the waiting room, with about 50 other folks, with 1 arm that looked like a mummy. She said that they'd wrapped her up enough that she wouldn't bleed all over the place, but she was now stable , and had to wait for more treatment, as they had a full house, and other folks worse off than her. She figured about another 2 hour wait, so I could go home, get some sleep, she had a phone, she'd call me, since she wasn't gonna get any sleep, but figured she could still mamage to get to her job, but I hadda get some sleep to do mine. I went home, went to bed, next thing I knew it was 6 AM and I was wide awake. No phone call. OH, crap, maybe some kind of complications or something. I drove back down there, they were just about to release her, the X-RAYS were OK, all they had to do was disconnect the IV. Huh? Well, just in case a claw or tooth broke off in there somewhere, or in case of trouble, and they'd shot her full of antibiotics thru it, but no problem. She was a lovely yellow-orange color, seems they painted her from head to toe, almost, with Beta-Dyne. They'd had serious cases all night, car crashes, heart attacks, serious stuff like that, and she'd rated a low priority. I drove her home, got her into the house and laid down, then went and got her prescriptions, and some breakfast for both of us. She slept a couple of hours, then decided that she wouldn't go to her work after all. Good choice, the bandaged hand was the one she uses on the handrail while climbing the stairs to her room. When I left for work, she was dozing in the recliner chair, with the cat that clawed her sleeping the sleep of the innocents on her chest... She's had one follow-up visit since, and one more to go. Everything looks good, no infection, the bandage keeps getting smaller, they unwrapped her fingers and she can use her hand, carefully, so it looks like just a matter of time to heal up.

First, I have to apologize. I'm a new convert. I only joined a few days ago, but I am utterly obsessed. I'm hoping it will die down :) But I have a few thoughts 1. Getting more ff/s would be a "Good Thing". No need to explain that. 2. It's not going to happen any time soon. Joss is busy elsewhere, as are other people. And it's going to take time to develop the needed fan base. 3. We need to spread the word beyond the obsessed. My main idea:

And way too many of them....I am currently striving for 2009 to be the year I actually publish my first novel and with that being said...WOW!!! It's definitely alot of work, time, and just not pulling your hair out even though you want to. I am still going to be writing and finish both of my fan fics. For those interested, the story right now, landed my some very high marks, even though I am no longer taking the course. It was a three month jobbie but I did enjoy it and it taught me quite a bit. So please be patient and I will try to spread my time around..... I would never forget the people who actually encouraged me with their words.

Should be coming soon!! && quite a trip it has been to get it. In December, I found it in my local Waterstones, in Preston, near my college. I decided to wait until I actually had some money after Christmas. I received a Borders voucher (different shop :crap:) so wandered into Waterstones to copy down the ISBN number, so that I could easily find it in Borders. There is no Borders within easy distance of my house, but eventually I got to one, only to find out the never have and never will stock Better Days, and that my voucher wouldn't work online. I could've cried. Then my Dad came to the rescue, he swapped his Book Voucher (redeemable in ANY book store ) with my Borders voucher (luckily they were of the same value) so I could go and buy it in Waterstones. I went in today, && they didn't have it in stock!! Anyway, I managed to order it off them, and using the voucher too, and the wonderful saleslady told me their copy was bought only yesterday. Also, they're supposed to stock it so another one had automatically been restocked for them. So, its on its way. && I will get a text when the store receives it. && I can rest happy in the knowledge that, although I do not have my comic today, someone else will be enjoying it right now. That thought alone is enough to let me wait. Anna.x.(:

For all the writers out there who love computers but miss the sound of manuel typers, I can help. There's a free shareware program on www.download.com called Tiper 1.6 -- works OK but no Typewriter sound scheme. So I have my own WAV file recordings of my five antique / old mnanuel typers: I've got a 1929 Royal, a 1930 Remington, a 1941 Royal, an early 1950s (or possibly late '40s) Royal and a 1960s Olympia. Msg. me here or Email for the WAV files. Email: JonathanMAG-at-Gmail-dot-com

Hi, I'm Sol, and I'm new to the Firefly Fans community (at least, as a member). My experience with Firefly? I've seen each episode and the movie at least three times each. I've also read almost all of the fanfics that this site has to offer. I love the FireFly universe, and I think it's an awesome place to put my storyline ideas. In fact, the current idea I have for the Operative right now is from a story idea that I originally set in 1800s England. So yeah, happy to be here, and I hope you all enjoy my work. Regards, Sol

[i]"It was a bizarre blow to have a story in your head and suddenly not get to tell it." - Joss Whedon on Firefly's cancellation.[/i] Maybe it's just me. I've taken part in three Firefly RPs over on Storycrafter.com. Every single one has failed. The first because the Storycrafter for the RP faded. He had a great opening, but no follow up. The second failed because the Storycrafter who crated it had no game. He was running an in-character chat more than an actual game. That is entirely do-able to a point. The third... that was fairly excruciating, actually. I wasn't the SC on record, but I was one of three people running it, and by the end I wasn't a co-SC so much as a referee. When it gets to the point that you dread going to the story site to check on updates, it's time to pull up stakes and leave. But not me. Oh no. I survived the throes of cancellation *sound of Remington shotgun slide-action* I could handle this. I was using an altered version Marcel Cariveau from my Heartbroken Fanfic for the RP, and I had created a shepherd. I still had stories to tell for both of them. And then, one day, the opportunity to tell them was gone. Moral of the story. Don't get attached... well, not TOO attached to anything the networks do. Any of the networks. Since Firefly was canceled, I've done whatever I can to recreate the shine, to bring the 'verse back within my reach. Yeah, I'm still attached. I always will be. Because there are still stories to tell. Because it really was a very, very bizarre blow.

The Message [Simon and Kaylee check out the "proof of alien life" exhibit — an inert creature in a cylindrical jar.] Simon: Yep — it's a cow fetus. Kaylee: Guess so. It does seem to have an awful lot of limbs. Simon: It's mutated. Kaylee: But cow? How do you figure? Simon: It's upside down. [Kaylee tilts her head to the side.] Kaylee: Oh yeah. Cow. Simon: And I'm out twelve bits! I really know how to show a girl a… disgusting time. . . . [Simon watches as Kaylee storms off. Zoe and Wash enter the exhibit.] Wash: Oh my god, it's grotesque! Oh, and there's something in a jar. Zoe: Scared her away again, did you? Simon: D— This may come as a shock, but I'm actually… not very good at talking to girls. Zoe: Why, is there someone you are good at talking to? [Wash stares into the "face" of the "alien".] Wash: Do not fear me! Ours is a peaceful race, and we must live in harmony. [River unsuccessfully tries to eat a spherical treat that bobs from a string.] River: My food is problematic. Jayne: Girl's a mind-readin' genius, can't even figure out how to eat an ice planet. Jayne: I got post? Book: Might we all want to step a few paces back before he opens that? Jayne: Ha ha! It's from my mother. [Inara and Kaylee catch up to the post-office crowd.] Inara: So, do aliens live among us? Kaylee: Yeah. One of them's a doctor. [Jayne proudly wears his mother's hideous home-knit cap.] Jayne: How's it sit? Pretty cunning, don't you think? Kaylee: I think it's the sweetest hat ever. Wash: A man walks down the street in that hat, people know he's not afraid of anything. Jayne: Damn straight! . . . [Zoe and Mal open a coffin-sized box to find a body. Jayne peers in.] Jayne: What'd y'all order a dead guy for? [Flashback to the war, where Zoe quietly kills a man about to shoot a private having a meal.] Tracey: Thanks. I didn't know you were out there. Zoe: Sort of the point. Stealth — you may have heard of it. Tracey: I don't think they covered that in basic. Zoe: Well, at least they covered "Dropping Your Weapon So You Can Eat Beans and Get Yourself Shot". Tracey: Yeah, I got a badge in that. [seriously] Won't happen again. Zoe: It does, I'm just gonna watch. . . . Zoe: First rule of battle, little one… don't ever let them know where you are. [Cut to Mal, firing behind himself as he runs toward the two.] Mal: WHOO-HOO! I'M RIGHT HERE! I'M RIGHT HERE! YOU WANT SOME O' ME?! YEAH YOU DO! COME ON! COME ON! AAAAAH! [He lands with a grunt behind some nearby rocks.] Mal: Whoo-hoo! Zoe: Course, there're other schools of thought. Mal: They don't like it when you shoot at 'em. I worked that out myself. Mal: Tracey, ain't you dead yet? Tracey: Through no fault of my own, Sarge. Mal: Aw...I really wanted your beans. Mal: Everybody dies, Tracey. Someone's carryin' a bullet for you right now, doesn't even know it. The trick is, die of old age before it finds you. Jayne: We're taking him on board? Mal: We are. Jayne: Don't know if I see the percentage in that. Mal: Then don't strain your brain trying. You might break something. [River to Simon after he is blown off by Kaylee] River: You are such a boob. [The crew listens to Tracey's recorded message.] Tracey: Uh, okay. Uh, recording. Hi, I guess. This is a message for Zoe, and for Malcolm Reynolds. And I really hope you all are the ones listening to it. I'll spare you the boring details. I've fallen in with untrustworthy folk. Makin' a bunch of bad calls. All that matters is… I expect to be shuffled off. And you two are the only people I trust to get me where I'm going, which is home. I'd like my body to be with my folks on St. Albans. We got the family plot there, and my Mom and Dad, well, they deserve to know I died. You know, it's funny. We went to the war never lookin' to come back, but it's… it's the real world I couldn't survive. You two carried me through that war. Now I need you to carry me just a little bit further… if you can. Tell my folks I wanted to do right by them, and that I'm at peace, and all. Uh… When you can't run anymore, you

I used to write Firefly role-play over on StoryCrafter.com. When the game was still running, I would have the occasional difficulties with the other members of the staff - the SC and the other co-PA. They had a hard time communicating with each other, plus the SC was the kind of guy who would agree to a plot and then go off and do his own thing. Back in June--three weeks after my Mom died suddenly--he eviscerated the game. Didn't just delete it. Oh no. He deleted all the threads. My work, our work, the cast's work, all of it. Suffice to say, I have good justification when I say I won't participate in any form of Firefly RP again. Ever. There are some names I can't speak anymore because of it. John Coffey - his main character in the game - and Roger. Speaking someone's name gives them power, recognition. So I figure eliminating a name from my consciousness has the opposing effect. In the dark times, pre-evisceration, when I felt more like a like a referee and less like a writer I would come here to FFF.net to remember the shiny times of being a Firefly Fan. Sure, I was here very freshly from the [i]Throes of Cancellation[/i], but there was a great group here, and we were all about Firefly. This site still is all about Firefly, and I cannot begin to describe how jazzed I am to come here and find at least three new posts that start with various versions of the words "new here." We're still flying, and that really is good enough.

I was working out after work, and was doing curls, with some bowflex weights, and usually, I can manage, but today when I set the weights down on my chair, before putting them back into the rack. I thought it was resting on my seat cushion, but it was actually on the brake, it slipped off, and cought one of the discs that holds the weight on, and the disc snapped. The weight wasn't mine, and now I might have to shell out $500 for a new set to replace the broken one. It all depends one what the owner of the weight set says tomorrow. In short I'm totally screwed!

ughhhhh... does anyone watch doctor who...? i just love it! i have been watching the new series since chris eccleston was the doctor and now i am anticipating the 5th season, though not too thrilled about david tennant leaving. well any way the point is that i wish that firefly had gotten the chance to continue... then it would probably have developed into uber awesomeness like doctor who... AND i have to say this... i have found the song that makes me unable to contain myself... and listening to it right now... i can'T HElp but chair dance... the song is voodoo child by rogue traders... got introduced to the song cause of doctor who... oh... so if you'RE up to checking out anything different if you havent seen them i would highly recommend doctor who... and then after that...
