Lovin’ Woman

Inara woke to a warm body snuggled into her, it had mussed brown hair and smelt faintly of strawberries. Inara closed her eyes. Mmmmm, I have a nice warm Kaylee in my bed, she thought, idly stroking Kaylee’s head. It was comforting waking up with someone warm to snuggle into. She dozed a little, enjoying Kaylee’s presence, wondering as to the future and the beauty of what she never truly thought she would have. She had true love, or as far as she understood this is what she had, with sweet adorable, beautiful Kaylee. She mulled on this, wondering if this was the same kind of feeling her clients nurtured for her. She knew she could be content being a good person's permanent companion, a 'dhana' as they were called in the ancient ways. But she now found she understood more the difference, contentment was just that. A static state, love was…love didn’t really need to be anything other than what it was, and currently it was the wonderful feeling of a sleeping Kaylee.

Inara’s mind fluttered like a stray feather on the wind, contemplating the wonders of her new position on life. However worries slowly started to creep back into her mind.

I’m a companion, any relationship is going to be difficult, but more importantly…how would Kaylee feel about this? I see clients, and though it is not always so, physical romance is implied. She wondered if there was a clause in the great unwritten tome ab

Whoah.. O.O 'Is it hot in here? I need airflow' :)

You've done it again Cowboy! The plot is certainly heating up now. It retains a strong emotional core too, so it's not just PWP. Excellent!

I really liked this. I liked the worry/confusion building up inside Inara's mind, and the verbal/ emotional interaction between the characters. The physical interaction was written well too. It went hand in hand with the emotional tone of the piece. It wasn't offensive.

Also, there were so many nice touches like: 'Time passed like seasons in the abyss.' Also: 'paranoia gripping at her like the hand of the reaper' and 'Inara’s mind fluttered like a stray feather on the wind.' Excellent stuff!

Keep up the good work man. This is top notch writing. I look forward to part 4!

Dang it! Cos done quoted some of my fave lines already!

Cowboy: This is the best part of the fic yet, although the rest was surely shiny as all get-out. You're a dab hand at making our BDH lasses walk and talk (and other things) and...that there kiss you let 'em share? BABY!

Excellent work Cowboy, and I like that it is building up to the act rather than rushing into it.

The worrying by Inara at the beginning was well written, very much in her voice and character.

Oh...you have definitely got the knack, Cowboy! Cuz I know I couldn't make this kind of stuff work the way you do....too much chance of it going totally PWP and not delving into the deeper issues of starting up a relationship between a Companion and a ship's mechanic:D

Also...while no actual sex was recorded....it was HOT! You definitely know how to do implied themes well;)
