I keep complaining that I don't own a cunning Jayne hat and would love to make one. I can't knit though, so I just annoy people. My sister even offered to knit me one if I could find her instructions on how to do it. In the mean time, she recently just got back from a trip to London and bought my a wanna-be Jayne hat. It has earflaps and is vaguely orange, but it's just not the same. Not to mention it got really warm here and I can't even wear the hat. :crap: But now I've found a couple of places that have instructions and/or sell Jayne hats. This place (

it is now, a quarter to 6 in the morning. Normally, our alarm is set for about 8:00. However, at about 4:00 am this morning I snapped. I have been recliner ridden for the past month or so due to horrid morning sickness. The house keeping is normaly my job, so the house became a wreck. Last night, right before bed, we took our dog Zoe out to go potty and she ran off and found something gross to roll in. We gave her a quick bath when we found her, but since we were beat it wasn't too good. I woke about 4:00 and smelled her. Now, my sence of smell has always been sharp, but now that I'm pregnant I can smell a june bug fart. I freaked out, got up, and started doing dishes in the kitchen. Loving husband woke and found me in the kitchen doing dishes and sobbing. For teh next 15 minutes I wailed about how every room in the house stunk. The kitchen smelled of dirty dishes, the living room smelled of dog, our bedroom smelled of dirty clothes. Wah wah wah wah wah. I then proceeded to go mideval on the kitchen, and I finally got it done. After stumbling to the bathroom a couple times to heave, I decided that I'd had my fit,and I was ready to go back to bed. I expected to find my Husby alseep in the bed, but instead he was doing laundry at 5:00 am. He says, "Well, I need to get up soon anyways." I'm thinking of divorcing him just so I can marry him again.

Ni Hao all my fellow Browncoats, I have some good news to report regarding my Pa. He had his fourth chemo treatment on Monday, and the report is in... The cancer in his adrenal glands is shrinking, and the tumour in his lung is also showing signs of shrinkage. His blood test was immaculate, and he hasn't lost any more weight from side effects. His appetite has virtually returned to normal, his spirits are high, and he has even started driving a little, getting out & about for dinner & groceries with Mom. Thanks again to all of you who've sent your prayers & best wishes... they really make a difference. Warmest regards... -Ski

Four midterms down. Tomorrow I have an advancement exam for E-6 for a job that I haven't done in over a year, so I'm not holding my breath for a promotion. And finally, Saturday is the first race of the rowing season. So if I can make it just three more days I think my life resume it's normal pace, i.e. very slow. At least I omly have one class tomorrow so I can visit my friends on base and we can bitch about the exam together. Thank godness for the small things. Thanks for putting up with my whining, Droppy P.S. I almost forgot, a good friend of mine had her baby yesterday, so guess guess no matter whats going on there's always something beautiful happening somewhere.

Ahhh, midterms. A blessed time of year when my already neurotic behavior cranks up another notch. I just have to get through next week before Spring Break starts. If I can do that, I swear I won't complain to you nice people anymore. Well...at least not until finals week anyway. Did I mention that my birthday is coming up. March 19th. I hope to eat lots of cake and drink lots of beer. I might even get some, but I'm not holding my breath. Whatever happens, I'll be happy. At least I'll be home.

Well, over the next two weeks, I'ma be very very busy. I've said before that I work in an Internet Gaming Center/Internet Cafe, where people can come in and use our systems to play games, surf the web, etc... anyhoo, it's a family business, and I work there with my 3rd cousin and his daughter, both of whom are going to be out-of-state for two weeks. I won't be the only one in the building, because our other business is right next door, but I am the only one who knows the in's and out's of our cafe systems, as well as our financial tools. SO... our center is usually open from 11AM till 2AM, because I'm there in the early morning till about 7PM, then my cousin and his daughter are there until 2AM, since she doesn't get in until about 2 or 3PM. But... by myself, I'm not sure I can handle the hours, so I might be forced to close at 11pm or so, over the next 2 weeks. I just figured I'd let everyone know, so that if I seem strange or disjointed in my posts/blogs over the next 2 weeks, you'd know it's due to lack of sleep and good ol' fasioned exhaustion, rather than just my going crazy. (which is also a distinct posibility) Wish me luck. I'll need it.

Ok, just got back. Stupid after-hours. Stupid. Stupid. Had to wait 3 hours!! Just to get an exam room. Then another half hour before the doctor finally showed. I didn't think to bring a book, or a gameboy or even an iPod (which I normally take with me everywhere). Thankfully my dad brought a few things. Anyway. The doctor came in, and was done in less than 5 minutes. Asked me about what happened, felt my stomach, made me stand and walk and asked if I felt dizzy (I did not). Then told me if it happens again to go to the hospital, and he left. ARG! He didn't tell me anything I didn't already know! Two weird things happened - an unexplained pain, and fainting. Not normal for me at all. And I just gave up 4 hours, and all my working hours today and tomorrow, so I could come in to the hospital, be bored, and not have anything explained to me. I guess the doctor knows best, though, and if he isn't concerned, I won't be. Unless it happens again. Then I'll be very concerned.

First, some irl information you might need to know: I hate going to dances, and plan not to go to prom. A friend of mine (megan) has been harrasing me to go to prom with her this year. I know two megans, megan and meaghan. Ice Cream Guys name is Fucktard. (well, not really. But hey...) Oh, and Fucktard and I were sort of dating for a while, but we broke up. Because he's a fucktard. Ok, so here's my wacky dream: It was prom night, and somehow megan had talked me into going. So we were in a hotel room. (i dunno why. Prom was in a hotel, so we got a hotel room, and we were getting ready there.) And I had spur-of-the-moment decided that I was going to go, so i didn't have a dress or an outfit. So we tore apart our suitcases (because apperently this prom in a hotel was also in another state that we had to do some serious traveling to get too. Mighta been Vegas) looking for something but we didn't have anything and we get the bright idea to go down to the gift shop to find a prom dress but they don't have my size (although I do find it interesting that they had prom dresses), and long story short we miss the whole prom. WHILE this is going on there's also this sub-plot going on that has something to do with Fucktard asking some ugly, unpopular chick to prom to piss off his boss (but in so subtle a fashion that his boss will never know that he's supposed to be angry.) (Actually, I think this might be something that Fucktards gonna do in real life. Don't ask me how i know this, or why its in my dream, but whatever.) ANYWAYS, this date of fucktards spends a lot of the time on the phone with her mom (because she's the kind of girl who's very attached to her mother) and she's trying so hard to impress Fucktard and she thinks its going really well because Fucktard is using his wiles on her but I'm watching this and thinking, "This is not gonna end well." So (even though we've missed prom) megan and I leave the hotel go on this quest to find me a prom outfit because, well, I dunno why, but we're on a quest goddamn it and we're gonna find me an outfit (we never do). So we go to a whole bunch of other hotel gift shops looking for a dress, but they won't let us in because we don't go to those hotels or something. Night falls. We go to target. Megan morphs into Meaghan. So I'm in target looking at hair dye (oh yeah, my hair has been doing all sorts of funky stuff. It grows to shoulder length, and gets black and brown streaks in it. It looks really bad though, so I'm looking for a way to cover it up) so I'm looking for hair dye and the world collapses. The walls fall down and the world outside has become this barren wasteland. Eveybody is dead or missing excpet me and some randome target salesman (who is gay and has rainbow streaks in his hair) and eventually he goes away too. Then God shows up. I'm dead serious. God. And he's this really gross, worn down old man dressed in rags. Jesus shows up and he's this little kid. But he's also really greasy and dressed in rags. There was a third thing there (person isn't the right word), but it just sort of lurked in the shadows and was creepy. My memory of this dream has been fairly solid up to this point, but here it gets sort of wierd. Jesus is doing something to a wall. Digging through it or something. Its really, really hard work, physicaly, and for some reason emotionaly as well. God sits all hunched up next to me on a rock and grunts at Jesus that he's waisting his time, or doing it wrong or something. God just sits there and harrasses him. And i can tell that this is really hard on Jesus because he never complains or anything so I ask him why he's doing it. And jesus says "Because I have to. I've done this 213 times already." (not sure if that was the number. I remmer it being 200 and something. Maybe 243) And i just got this really profound feeling. Like I was watching something really exceptional happening. But all that was going on was some old guy was harrasing some little kid who was scratching at a wall and beating it with a sledgehammer. It was

I learned a new word today. "cryptophasia" This is when twins make up their own language and they communicate and noone else knows what they are saying . . .God, I'm scared. :crap: I've also heard they gang up on you. Not surprising, I've learned that they make morningsickness worse. Explains alot. :vomit:

now the DVD's are only £14.99 in virgin! Heh - she's uberhooked. She made me a teeshirt saying "My friend went to Persphone and all I got was this lousy t-shirt" ! I'm exchanging it for one from my blue sun tshirt factory! She's buying wool to get her mum to knit us cunning hats. I've created a beautiful monster!

as I type, I am wearing my new Blue Sun tank top. why is this so special, you ask? well, I shall tell you. I made this tank myself. I cut off the clear plastic cover from a handout at work, printed out the logo, got out my new razor with its spiffy handle, and went to work. (oh, and this is all possible because my mom sent me the contents of the craft drawer, including my t-shirt paints). A day of drying later, I have my very own Blue Sun t-shirt. Unfortunately, no one knows of its significance (none of my roommates are browncoats, though the ones I have roped into watching do like it), so I needed to share my mightiness with those who would understand. I think I am going to try an Independent on next, but I have have to find a black top, cause I only have green and yellow paint. that is all for the gut-spilling tonight...must go eat dinner (with my new shirt on...hope River's not there  ). the wall

It's 10:48 p.m do you know where your brain is? I just got back from the theatre. I can't even begin to explain how much I love going to the theatre. I am an admitted showtune junkie and going to see live shows just makes me so feel warm and fuzzy inside. Tonight I saw Gershwin's My One and Only and once again shiny goodness ensued. S'wonderful, S'marvelous...lalalala... Ok so I can't sing or really dance for that matter, but boy do I wish I'd stuck to the tap dance lessons when I was 5. Now just one strange thing about me and theatre experiences. Every time I go I bawl like a baby. Which is ok, if it's RENT, Ragtime, Aida, or some other heart wrenching show. The thing is, even the happy ending, romantical ones (like My One and Only) really get to me. I turn into this overly emotional dork. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the feeling it gives me, but I don't see a lot of other people (ok no one at all) reacting in this way. So am I weird or what?

who apparently has too much spare time! Just kidding! This one's for you. I had a random firefly moment in my lecture today, when I thought my lecturer was talking about Firefly. He was just about to make the list of coolest lecturers ever when I realised he was talking about a book from years ago. Had many similarities though. My friend next to me thought I'd lost the plot as I sat there with a stupidly massive grin on my face! Still the guy knows his science fiction for a sociology professor. The Kent bit of England has finally got rid of the snow! I fell over too many times for it to be magical but I kind of miss it, now it's just rainy! Yuck! Any way here's my random story of the week... I drove back to University last monday from home only to be held up in traffic because all the roads in Kent had been covered in snow overnight! I make it back to Canterbury with an hour before my lecture and I can't find a parking space anywhere near my house. I finally leave my car all the way up the road. I get in, manage to convince my housemate that he really does want to help me unload my computer from my car beacuse I'll probably slip on the snow and it's too heavy for me to carry anyway. We have a little chat about snowmen and gas bills and how our fire alarm is acting funny and keeps going off when... ...beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep... the damn thing starts to go off! So there we are pushing, pokeing, prodding, fanning and bashing this thing to get it to stop makeing that awful noise, the kind that gets right in your head. We even disconnect it from the mains and it's still going off. Anyway this comedy act goes on for about 10 minutes before my housmate finally declares it's officially broken and goes off to ring our handiman. I'm there stuffing the thing in a kitchen drawer and packing tea towels round it so he can actually hear what's being said on the phone. He puts the phone down and says we need to take out the battery. I tell him there isn't a battery because we have looked everywhere and it isn't a big piece of equiptment. We finally find it hidden in the side, rip it out and sink to the floor with relief. He then turns to me and says "How come the computer is turned off?... How come the lights don't work?" "We must have tripped the switch in all the commotion," say I. So the two of us head off to search for a box mounted on the wall, we finally find a contender outside in a little cupboard, but all the switches say 'ON' so we decide that can't be it. I give up at this point as I am running out of time. We both unload my car, dump it all in my room, I get changed in to my uniform for work, thank my housemate for his help and head off to Campus and my lecture. On the way I meet my friend who gets all excited and exclaims "have you heard about the power cut? It's all over Canterbury!." I loose the will to live then as I finally figure out what had happened. All student fire alarms have to be plugged in to the mains electricity by law so students can't take the batteries out and then sue if a fire occurs. They also have to have batteries fitted in case of power cuts like the one on Moday. Whena battery dies they are programmed to alarm continuously until it is changed. Our battery was dead only we didn't know until the power cut and we were so busy dealing with the alarm that we didn't notice that there was one. It was just a coincidence we were talking about the alarm when it started going off. The box we found was the right one but we hadn't tripped any switches so of course they all said 'ON'. I ring my housemate to let him know it's a power cut which he has figured out by this time anyway and make it to my lecture with 1 minute to spare. Anyway, that was half a day in the life of me! Hope it was vaguely amuseing! Be safe. Alison

Tomorrow around 1:00 P.M. I'm leaving school to go home for two and a half weeks. Sadly we have horribly slow dial-up Internet there, so I don't think I'll be able to get online much. I'm also going to Los Angeles for a week and then to Arizona for a few days. All good fun, but I will miss being my usual fangirly self online! I am looking forward to the next New England Browncoats Shindig on March 26th to get my Firefly fix over break! :)

They say happiness isn't a fish you can catch. Well, I proved that wrong. Okay, maybe I didn't catch it, it sort of hopped outta the river and into my hands. Admittedly there was no actual fish involved either. Happiness is a good thing. Now I am waiting in excitement for the moment when I achieve true happiness and go all evil. Anyhow, soon to have completed the Mutant Enemy Collection and that's just another reason to be smilin'. Keep smilin' 'til September and the we'll be smilin' even broader.

Mt. St. Helens ash on the cars this morning! Our favorite local volcano (Washington State, USA) had some little quakes and blew off some steam and ash last night. We're looking forward to a beautiful sunset!

So I was in the bookstore for 2 gorram hours the other day, trying to figure out what to buy. I ended up getting "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman, and only because of who wrote it. I need some suggestions, please!! I'm up for anything!

Does it? Normally I'd be moping on my home blog, but if one is going to fish for sympathy, what better place than here with all my wonderful Browncoats. That and I can be vulnerable here. She won't see this. She'll see me being strong, being ok. So she won't feel bad about me hurting, because she won't know. Fucking white hat. I was doing ok. I really was. But she was out of town and not online. And then she popped online. And there sunk the heart. And then I made the mistake of talking to her. Not because of anything she did or anything like that. It was just difficult to talk to her as only a friend. And then she went out for a bit to catch a band. Came back and wanted to talk a little more. Drunk. Rah. Just. Argh. I must be masochistic. Also, empathy sucks. If you wanna know, you can ask, but I won't say why here.

People always look at teachers and think "Oh, they've got it so good. Three months off in the summer, their days are usually over by 3pm, etc, etc." What most people don't see is the incredible stress that most of go through at this time of year. For some reason, Californians have stopped giving a crap about education. Budgets have been getting smaller and smaller for years. I've been lucky enough to get into a district that saw this coming and started saving early. But now we got down to a point where we needed to pass a parcel tax in order to keep things at the status quo. It wasn't big; just an extra $140 per year for the next five years. It didn't pass. Almost...60% of the vote when we needed 67%, but the fact is we're not getting the money and the district is now looking at cutting 58 teachers districtwide. By all my estimations, I just might miss the cut...but so barely will it be that I will now be the bottom of the totem pole. But hey, if I make it to next year, I'll at least be tenured. All I care about now is making it to next year. For more of a rant, see my other blog at

Ya'll would be so proud of me! So today we had auditions for the next play and some of us were hanging out outside the theater waiting to go onstage and I notice that Fucktard is looking at me and I'm like, "What?" He goes, "I had a dream about you last night." "Yeah? What happened?" "We were having sex." "Oh good." (note sarcasim) "I'm trying to remember...It was really dark, like, pitch black, but I could still see." "Yeah, ok, that almost makes sense." "It was really good." "It always is." "I wouldn't know." "Yeah, thats your fault. Not mine. Thats totaly on you." "I know I know. And I wouldn't...you know, like we talked about." (pause) "Someday though..." "I don't think so." "Ok," he said that a little too fast and defencivly. Are you proud of me or what? I'm proud of me.

Ok, lucky you I keep getting an error message when I try to sign into the other blog site, so you get to hear yet another rant. Tonight, a co-worker comes into use the computer while I am at work. He's like "Can I ask you a question?" So, me expecting some question about homework or work related thing and am just a tad taken a back when instead he asks in all seriousness "How short do you have to be to be considered a midget?" I just gave him THE (wow do you EVER think before you speak) look. See, I'm not exactly tall (very not tall) and it's a little annoying. I know not much of a thing to rant about. It's just that well, *sniff, sniff* short people have feelings too. :crap:

I've been keeping two blogs online, other than the occasional post here. One using Google's Blogger site and software, which is more personal, and a LiveJournal for my works of prose and poetry. Well, I've collected about 5 "Snippets" that tell a near complete episode for a long fantasy epic novel idea I've been working on for a while. I shall now link to them. Please note the rating for Snippet 7. It's not for younger readers. Don't get upset, I warned you. Despite the numbers, they will be listed in chronological order. So just click through from top to bottom. Introduction:

Shhhh...I don't want my wife to know that I'm writing in another blog. Actually, that's not true, but the last blog I kept over on blogger pissed her off so bad that I had to delete it after keeping it for four years. Kinda disappointing. Which is not to say that I let my wife rule the world. Its just, why would I let a website drive a wedge between me and my beloved? Either way, I plan on keeping this one here. If she finds out about it, so be it...If not, so be it. Anyways...was watching Serenity again for the hundredth time last night, and noticed something I thought was cool. In Badger's office, though Badger's men had the drop on them, Jayne was still going to pull his gun and start blasting. Says a lot about his character, I think. Anyways,...I'm planning a character study of some of the crew, as soon as I can figure out where to post it. Nothing fancy, mind you...just some observations. I am by no means, an expert in the fields of literature or psychology, so my opinion will mean next to nil. Gotta go...my boss is back in the office.

Yeah, so it was quite awhile since I had been here...I mean, give me a break...I just got back from Korea and had to move my family from Florida to North Carolina. So, it was a while before I knew the Big Damn Movie had been moved from April to September. I waited patiently under the pretense that my movie was going to be here in April, and then...the crushing day that I signed back on here. Actually, to update my fanfic, but then....oh, the HORROR..the absolute HORROR of having to wait sooooooo much longer. Then again, I see the wisdom behind it. I know the movie is coming, and that is a comfort. I can't wait...oh...I guess I have to.

March: Added alittle more to the script this month. Bios for all main characters and a few minor secondary characters too. After having watched the commentary for the show SPACED I was interested to learn that the writers gave all the characters in the show bios. So learning from those that know I have done the same too, in the hope of understanding the characters. Makes sense I guess and could help the other writers too.

Coming soon to the Blue Sun Room Fanfics.... My theory on Reavers!!!! I'm gonna try to make a good story outta it, so constructive criticism is welcomed with open arms.

A while back a certain composer caused a certain amount of hoopla amongst certain browncoats, and that got me thinking. If I were Joss, who would I ask to be the composer for my BDM? I thought about all of the greats...Horner, Williams, Shore, and Zimmer. And I think that they might could do a good job. But today I had an epiphany while listening to my soundtrack for Children of Dune. Brian Tyler is the coolest. Yes, that was my epiphany. CoD was okay, but the soundtrack is stinkin shiny. And I have some good reasons. 1-It weaves in the "native" music so well. If anyone could combine the western and Chinese in music as Joss has done for the 'verse of Serenity, I think it would be Brian Tyler. 2-And the emotion it is able to communicate...I get shivers up my spine just thinking of how he would do the Reaver theme. 3-It is layered. The characters of Serenity have some quite complex emotions, the music needs to be able to show those at the same time. 4-It is not grandiose in a Core world way. Brian Tyler can write music that is grand, in a way that would not be out of place on the Rim. Yes, there ya have it. My official opinion and reasons on who should compose the music for Serenity. Brian Tyler. Maybe I should start a campaign.

Alright, to all my friend's on here, sorry I disappeared. This has been an interesting time for me, to say the least. I'm living with my mom again. It was a fun-ish move because it was over Christmas break and I wasn't aware that I was moving until half-way through my vacation. Fun, huh? Anyway so I'm no longer living with my dad. It's not so bad though, coming back here to my old town and my old school and my old friends. I've even made a few new friends! Oh and on a Firefly related note- I converted my boyfriend and his brother. They both really like Firefly. I'm lending them my DVD's one at a time. Talk to everyone later. Bye y'all!

My wife, Firecrackr (from the Universal board) and I arrived at the convention center at 10:30, we got in by 11:00 and started wandering around the vendors. The last con we went to was last summer's Comic-con, so this was quite different. Only a handful of vendors and many seemed to specialize in photos, autographed an otherwise. We did spend quite a bit of time at Virginia Hey's booth talking to her and buying one of her scented candles. We skipped all of the morning talks then met with FireFlyFlan3 and a few others (Redaly, not sure if the other two have board names). We (and by we, I mean mostly my wife and FireFlyFan3) talked about the recent fan table at Wondercon? and the upcoming one at Comic-Con. Firecrackr and I headed back into the con (the others only had tickets for the reception). I sat through several panels of varying entertainment, then we went for our photo-op with Adam. The line was pushed through very fast, but Mr. Baldwin did take the time to shake hands with everyone and say high. I was wearing the Jayne hat my wife had knit, but we won't be able to see the pictures until a week after the con, because we weren't there to pick them up on Sunday. While in line we met with a woman who had flown out from England with her brother just for the con and reception! Right after that photo-op we headed over to Delmonico's where there was already a crowd of browncoats. FireFlyFan3 was handing out Serenity buttons, and there were also a few con-video DVD's being given out. Right on time, Alan and Adam showed and we were all lead into a back room where we were asked to takes seats. Firecrakr and I sat at a table with P. (don't want to mention names without permission), who works for the Sci-Fi channel's Sci-Fi Wire web site. Hopefully they'll have a write-up on it. Drinks were brought round for us as well as our heros (and continued flowing the entire time, along with various finger foods). As soon as everyone was settled Adam and Alan started making rounds. Alan made it to our table fairly quickly. As usual Firecrackr did most of the talking, asking Alan what he was up to. He mentioned he was about to start a TV pilot with no name as of yet. Given how TV works, there's no guarantees it will ever see the light of day. Then he was moving on. During the long wait between Alan and Adam, I said hello to Ms. Grey. I hadn't recognized her, but others had and mentioned she was in Buck Rogers, so I said hello and how much I had liked the show. She was obviously focused on work, though so I didn't say much. I firmly second all of the positive comments about her. Now I'm going to have to see if I can find the series anywhere :) By the time Adam made it to our table, he was already being warned about running out of time. Firecrackr just mentioned how much we've loved everything he's done, and I asked if he knew when The Freediver was going to be released here in the US, but he said he had no idea. He made a few comments about some of the amazing things free diver's are able to do. Then he really was being pressured to leave, but we gave up our seats so a very young girl could talk to him for just a minute. I think there were a few things I missed, so maybe Firecrackr will post her thoughts (probably on the Universal board, though). At that point people started leaving, and we said hurried good-bye's and we'll-call-laters because we had another photo-op with Alan. As we headed out the door of Delmonico's, though, we noticed Alan, Adam and entourage right in front of us, so at least we knew we weren't going to be late. Photo with Alan was just as quick as Adam's. We met the same British fan again and later sat with them during the Firefly panel. There was a short presentation by Diamond Select Toys with teaser shots of the Mal and Jayne action figures (two versions each). He also mentioned there was a fifth figure, but he wasn't allowed to show it. There was much coughing of 'Reavers' in the audience. The presenter said he had a DVD set to give away, but wasn't sure how to do it, so he jus

I recently reacquired my old office job. I like, love it actually, and my boss can't see my computer monitor...much like the ones in Korea couldn't see it. Makes it easier to write fanfic when no one's looking. But, a new boss just came in, and he can see everything I'm doing. Then again, I've heard that he won't be around long. I'm waiting for the yell "Barks, what the hell are you doing, and what the hell is Firefly? Is that official business." The answer is, of course it is...just not official Air Force business. Damn it! Its official to me!

Ni Hao... It would appear that my previous blog was a little premature. About a week & a half ago, my father started experiencing severe lower back pain. After several tests it became clear that a tumour had grown in his lower spine, and was causing a spinal compression. He immediately went through five days of emergency radiotherapy to try & combat this new growth. This morning he was awoken with severe back pain again, worse than before. He was taken to the hospital via ambulance. No more news yet. -Ski

The next chapter to Shadow War would've been out yesterday, except, I keep having to X out the browser to keep people from finding out what I'm doing. Its disheartening to rebegin something you've almost finished twice. By the time I get home, I have no time for this...which is sad really, that I have more free time at work than I do at home. But, its the truth. Plus, to go along with my whining, my allergies are acting up. But, I'll live...there are several other people here on fireflyfan.net that are having troubles ten times worse than anything I'm going through right now. My heart goes out to these other browncoats. I hope things get better for you guys! You know, most of the times I mention my problems, I'm just trying to be funny. Maybe I should stop.

Okay, so the story begins about half a year ago. We found a stray dog and adopted her. We named her Zoe. She's a lovely, docile, happy staffordshire terrier. She even loves babies, which is a good thing since we're having a couple soon. The only problem with her and babies is she can't seem to get it through her head that she's not allowed to kiss them. Okay, she knows she shouldn't but she'll sneak. if a friend of mine brings her baby over, Zoe will crawl over on her belly to the baby and when she thinks noone is looking sneak a quick kiss then run away. Anyway, I digress. When we took Zoe to the vet to get her all of her shots and what not we discovered that she was knocked up . . ..grr. It wasn't long before we had 7 puppies running thought our house. We made sure each had their first set of shots then found homes for them. The majority of the homes were to friends in the neighborhood. We also got Zoe fixed very soon after the puppies got here. One of the families recently decided that they didn't want their puppy anymore. His name was Clyde. They took Clyde to the humane society here in town. My husband went down to visit the puppy and discovered that he was labled "unadoptable". This was greatly disturbing to my husband, because he was expecting Clyde to find a new home and be happy. He asked the vounteers why Clyde was not adoptable. Apparently, staffordshire terriers look alot like pit bulls, and in this state, it is illegal to adopt pitbulls. My husband tried to explain that Clydle was docile, and he knew, because he had rasied him from a puppy. Besides, Clyde wasn't a pit bull. The volunteer explained that Clyde looked like a pit bull, and therefore he was to be put down in the morning. My poor husband freaked out and said he'd take Clyde. The society refused, because, as I mentioned, it is illegal to adopt out pit bulls in our area. Hubby insisted and brought proof that he was a previous owner. Finally, after alot of arguing, and a butt load of money, Jon got to bring Clyde home. (he's just been fixed too.) Anyway, we don't need 2 dogs and 2 babies, so we're trying to find a home for Clyde. I know we should have just left him there if that was the case, but they weren't even going to give the poor puppy a chance. We couldn't stand the thought of one of our puppies being killed. You can see Clyde at www.directfreight.com/clyde He's fixed, nice, and waiting for a home. If you know anyone in the central MO area who would love Clyde, let me know. Thanks!!

"Oh, you must go skiing, it's such fun, we never thought we'd like it but we went once with Majorie Atwood and she took us to a delightful little chalet and we had such fun, you must go skiing, it's the in thing still, you would love it, you must go skiing" *BANG* Okay, people who go on about how great skiing is are very annoying. I get that. Not everyone likes the prospect of going over a mountain on a couple of bits of plastic, particularly when you have to pay a lot of money for the privilege. On the other hand, I really like it and the past week in Meribel was fantastic. Bright sunshine, beautiful snow and fabulous surroundings. What more do you want? Apart from decent nightlife, obviously (very, very bad there. The French struggle when it comes to music and dancing). It's also very weird when you drop back into your life after a week's absence and see that the world ticks on without you just fine. I suppose it's unreasonable to expect everyone to hold fire until you get back but there you go. Plus I got to read some very old books while I was away. Must start reading PG Woodhouse, Right Ho Jeeves was a delight. Pip pip!

Well, a week ago I was complaining about the voters of Milpitas and the future of my job. By last Friday I heard from the principal that attrition was likely going to take care of all the cuts they'd need to make at the high school. I felt much better, but wasn't counting eggs until the 15th (the date by which they had to let people know). It's March 16th, and I didn't get a pink slip!

I'm sure most of us wish we could work Firefly into a normal conversation, but that opportunity rarely happens. I don't think I've discussed anything Firefly related outside of the various sites and fans I've met. The closest I've ever come was in my Humanities class when someone mentioned Buffy in a presentation. Imagine my surprise when Firefly was brought up on my English class. Okay, so it was my sci-fi English class, but it was still neat. My prof was talking about space operas, basically stories that are westerns in space, and started to bring up some examples. Naturally he mentioned Star Trek, but to my delight he also mentioned Firefly. I think quite literally my heart skipped a beat. In a nutshell he said that Firefly was interesting, as small as it was, but modest. And modest in the sense that when compared to the space operas, the show was less grand. From that little bit I couldn't tell if he had been impressed by the show, but clearly he was familiar with it. Which led me to start thinking about writing my next essay about Firefly. If my prof is familiar with the concept of the show, I really don't have to explain it to him and that, I'd imagine, would be the hard part. I was thinking I could compare Firefly with one of the space operas we've read in class. Compare what? Well, I hadn't gotten that far yet. But personally, it's still an interesting thought. I could actually write about something that I know very well and actually sound smart. I should probably think of a topic before I get any giddier. But how often do you get to mix Firefly and academia?

Inside? Inside you will find a box. It is locked. The key is missing. Inside the box? It is locked. The key is missing. There is no way to know the contents. It is locked. Do you search for the key? The key cannot be found. It is impossible. If you started the search for the key, you are remarkable. The majority would just walk on by, never knowing. If you started the search for the key and upon learning it was impossible task, you laughed, then you are extraordinary. The extraordinary know "impossible" is merely an obstacle. The extraordinary step outside the box. Obstacles are not excuses, merely challenges. Challenges can be won. Are you prepared for the challenge?

So one of the ladies Static knows out our bar asked me to dance. That's a most unusual circumstance. Normally, I play the part of the tired guy. Eyes closed, singing with passion at a table. I go for the music and a glass of good beer. Normally. I've gone and danced before. Never without planning to in advance, though, and always with a girl I know in the group. Tonight I was the tired, sore guy. Singing the blues with passion. I guess I had gotten so used to it "not working" that I was right shocked when it "did work."

Here I sit on a Saturday night watchin last night’s BSG (which I missed due to work not due to fun) and playin KOTOR II…oh and surfing this net thingy too…and upgrading the firmware on my router. Here I sit. Grey talking about dancing and going out to hear music…now I want to do that. Ack. Dance…oh what fun. Shimming and swaying and dipping and grinding to the music. Feeling the heat of the other bodies moving around you. Letting go. *sigh* I need to find a place to dance.

When I was a child, I was a very big fan of a TV programme, Doctor Who. I collected the books of old stories, watched new ones avidly and participated in numerous acts of fandom. I even managed to convert the entirety of my school year into watching the show at Prep School when I was 10, the perfect age to be a Doctor Who fan. Then in 1989, the show was dropped. Ratings had been disappointing but the BBC never actually said it wasn't coming back. Years past, there were short skits for charity, a TVM with American co-production, a huge range of new adventures in books, webcasts and audios. But even though I always considered myself a fan, they didn't really count. If it wasn't on TV, it wasn't part of the official history (as witnessed by the fact that the books, comics and audios have now all gone in separate directions). But this Saturday, the man comes round again. A brand new series. Yes, it probably won't be as flashy as modern American shows. It will be still be aiming at a broad audience including children. But when I switch on to watch this Saturday evening, I'll be ten years old again.

Introduction: I recently concluded my viewing of the revamped Battlestar Galactica and felt compelled to add my personal observations about the show, including its characters, presentation, and story. I am certain that many of these points have been covered at length by a plethora (Si, El Guapo, you have a plethora...) of other sources and, from this, I make no claim of sole propriety over the opinions stated below. I do claim that my comments originated from my own brain and are based on personal viewing experiences, so I apologize now if they resemble another's work in any way, shape or form. I would like to point out that I am attempting to keep this post SPOILER FREE (caps make readers pay attention more) to the best of my abilities, so I ask those who have been through the series to not ruin it for anyone else. Most of the references I do make are based off of the 3hr movie, which I consider fair game since it is basically bait to draw the viewer into the series. So, without further ado, on with the review. ----- I would like to begin by first going over Battlestar's several faults. This may not be the best way to introduce the show, but I would like to point out now that, despite these objections, I still consider the series well worth watching and am eagerly anticipating the second season. Age: This may be a minor consideration to most people but it is a major annoyance to me. You see, almost everyone (on the military side, at least) is in their 20's or early 30's. The commander and his XO are both the world-weary veterans you would expect, but nearly everybody else looks barely old enough to drink, let alone fight for the future of humanity. The show's creators make some attempt to explain this, but even their supposedly senior NCO is only in his early 30's! I find it hard to believe that this ship couldn't rate at least one grizzled vet to help run the day to day operations. Understand, I don't mind so much that the pilots are young...since that is the way things are...but with the myriad of personal they use to service the fighters, as well as run the ship, you would think they could have come up with at least a few more spots to stick in a 40+ year old here and there. I believe the writers noticed this problem and created the ship's doctor to help balance out the age scale (the character is wonderful, btw), but it doesn't go far enough to fix the problem. Race: I realize that this can be a tender subject for most people, but I assure you that my intentions are pure. Like most sci-fi shows, Battlestar seems to lean toward caucasians as the primary casting genotype. Several key examples exist where the show diverged from this standard, but a vast, vast majority of the faces you see are white. Now, don't get me wrong, the people they chose to play the main characters are, for the most part, very well selected. My complaint centers around all those superfluous faces you see around the ship. Those other pilots in the ready room who probably have names, but aren't yet important enough for the viewer to know. The scores of mechanics, technicians, and support personal you see running around the the hangers and milling in the background of every scene. Is there some unwritten rule that says 99% of those people HAVE to be white? Understand, I am not asking for a complete overhaul, but how about seeing a little more racial variety here and there? Movie: Battlestar began as a 3hr movie created to set up the series. This movie is, in short, weak. It is so weak, in fact, that I almost gave up on the show altogether after watching it. Several months passed after my viewing of it before I even bothered starting on the series. Fortunately, it is the weekly episodes that save Battlestar. It seems that the writing for the series itself jumped in quality by several orders of magnitude over that of the movie. There are several reasons why this may have happened, not the very least of which being the time constraints a movie faces with not only introducing the characters, but the en

Now that I have gotten all that negative energy out of my system, let's talk positive! Presentation: This is almost as important to a show as its story and characters. Battlestar does an excellent job presenting itself both through its CGI and camera work. I would be remiss, however, if I did not point out the origins of both of these styles. There once was a little show called Firefly. It aired for a very brief time in 2002 on the Fox network. It was, without a doubt, the very best science fiction has to offer. Part of what made it great was its use of a wonderful company by the name of Zoic Studios to create its CGI space scenes. They were able to do so with such style and realism that the viewer couldn't help but be drawn into their universe. Battlestar uses this same company, in a similar capacity, with much the same result. Before I get into how this is achieved, I need to mention the camera work. Firefly also introduced the viewer to the 'shaky-cam'...scenes shot using the imitation of a hand-held camera to make the viewer feel as if they were in the room with the characters. Firefly incorporated this technique with their CGI space scenes as well as included zooms and focus corrections. Battlestar incorporates many of these styles into its own series and creates a similar 'viewer involved' feel. I should point out that Battlestar doesn't go so far as to incorporate the signature lens-flares that became almost a trademark to Firefly, so I would not go so far as to say that their style is outright theft...more like flattery though imitation. Despite this questionable originality, Battlestar does do an excellent job presenting itself such that the characters feel more accessible and its story that much more involving. Continuity: This is something that I feel is more important than presentation, in a way. Nothing is worse than a show that either A. Doesn't go anywhere or B. Doesn't take into consideration events that have happened previously. I believe that much of these problems are the result of a screwy American program schedule that demands over 20 episodes from a show each season, regardless of the nature of the series involved. It is pretty darn hard to come up with significant and meaningful material each week that both develops your characters and furthers the overall story. Let me exemplify my point by presenting Stargate SG-1. I was a late adopter of this show and even now, while I consider myself a fan, have very mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, it has a great plot and intriguing characters that steadily evolve through the life of the series. On the other, there are only about 8 to 10 REALLY good shows each season, supported by about 5 to 8 enjoyable ones...with anywhere from 4 to 7 completely useless ones that are totally 'episodic' in nature. Any fans of the series doubt me? If so, I dare you to defend the 'Citizen Joe' episode which aired little more than a month ago. Back on topic, my point to this is that shows tend to sacrifice continuity and development in order to meet their episode totals. Battlestar did an amazing job tying the series together in such a way that almost everything that happens has some significance later on. In addition, whereas the original Battlestar pretty much refused to take any meaningful steps towards achieving their goal of finding Earth/destroying the Cylons, each passing episode of this newest incarnation seems to progress the series towards some significant conclusion. I realize that the purpose of a TV show is to remain on the air as long as possible, so any REAL conclusions in plot are generally avoided like the plague or needlessly extended...but I have hopes that Battlestar will buck that trend and offer its viewers some sort of resolution in a relatively brisk time frame (say 5 seasons or so). Of course, there were only 13 episodes for the first season. If future seasons are expected to play out to the 20-something length and its powers-that-be decide to follow the same tired route that every other show seems to take,

Hi There! After a small hiatus from this board, I'm back with a favor to ask. Some of you may know that six-months ago, I left my job in Silicon Valley in order to make movies. (If you read the earlier entries, you'll see the story of a man who angsts waaaayyyy too much and has some pretty strange ideas about what living is all about.) Well, we completed filming at the end of Jan, and are currently doing post-production work which I hope will be finished in another month. That's when we'll start submitting to film festivals. The movie is a romantic comedy called Finding Love For Annie. Here's the website:

So I now know how the rest of the world feels when we get a first-run series and get to talk all about it and they only get to visualize it and wish they'd seen it too. Some of you already know what I'm talking about. After nearly a 16 year absence (mean, I was 12 at the time), DOCTOR WHO IS FINALLY RETURNING TO TELEVISION! Thanks to SimonWho, who has posted much info about the new series here, I've been able to see some pretty amazing stuff on the new series at the BBC's website! Wow. I don't even know where to start. There's almost a kind of...and I don't know that I'll explain this well...Farscape feel to the trailer and I'm hoping that comes out in the show too. Gone are the days of floppy costumes and six dollar (pound?) budgets! The new series looks incredible and I cannot wait to hear about it. I really want to find someone in the UK who is willing to tape or convert to DVD-R the episodes. I really really really want to see them! But here's what I want to know: How are they going to transition from the 8th Doctor to the 9th Doctor? Do we get to see that at all? And will the episodes be structured the same way? Old way - there'd be 13 stories a season that each have 3-4 episodes. New way - the website says 13 episodes...but will it all be one large storyline? For more info: www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho Just watch the trailer if nothing else! :D

I don't care much that my website at portland died - it didn't have much on it; but when my email account later also died I lost some important messages. I have an alternate address listed with them, but didn't get any notices or redirects. I'm now using Gmail, and with the 50 invites am recommending it instead.

I actually hate Easter. I'm not trying to offend anyone here, but its my least favorite holiday. I saw a chocolate cross in the store and I was like...ew. Don't they know that "cross" is latin for torture? Chocolate torture? Actually, the thought does bring up a few kinky alternatives...but enough of that. I guess, it's appropriate I should be spending Easter doing my least favorite thing: writing a paper. This one is giving me a real hard time, too. Its about empowering populations at-risk. Not that you really care. Anyway, that is why I took a little break to write in my blog. I had a lovely Spring Break, by the way. I got to see my family and hang out with all my friends back home. Oh, and I watched this awesome movie. It was called Equillibrium (I think I spelled it right). It had Christian Bale, Sean Bean, and Taye Diggs. If you haven't seen it, check it out. If you hate it, well...its not like I promised you anything. Okay, I'm going to stop writing now, because I really do need to finish my paper. Oh, one more thing. I got Resident Evil 4 for my birthday. The graphics are really cool and you know how I love to blow the heads off of things.

I kid you not, that's her name. When we adopted her, that was what was on the papers. The other thing was that the paperwork also stated that she was neutered. Our male dog knew otherwise. We noticed that she'd gone into heat, we were told that this sometimes happens after being neutered. Then they "hooked up." I called county animal control again. Turns out that she was overlooked on the day she was supposed to get her operation. She's fixed now, curtesy of the county. Boy, is our male dog depressed.

Yeah, me too, but that's a bit unrealistic isn't it? Even Dr Crane gave up after a mere 500 odd episodes. But 696 is the number of episodes of Doctor Who there were. Last Saturday, it became 697. The longest running sci-fi show in the world got back up after a little break and the key word is running. This was a fast paced episode, faster than any previous episode of Who (possibly barring some of Douglas Adams' contributions). The plot was fairly slight, this was about introducing us to Rose and The Doctor. Russell T Davies, the man behind this revival, has said he's a big fan of Buffy and you can tell, from the pacing, the mixture of horror and comedy (which Who always did have but not to the same extent). But this is primarily a revival of a British institution which means the odd creaking corner and less than convincing special effect but nonetheless we love it. In fact, over 11m caught it over the weekend, not counting those who watched it on tape. This has been a big hit and successful sci-fi begets more successful sci-fi. It's also very strange how many people I know have asked me about the revival. I was a big childhood fan of the show and now I have lots of friends asking about it, telling me how much they enjoyed watching it on Saturday and I'm even having to do a copy of the episode for someone who missed it. Makes me feel like I'm 10 years old again, but in a good way.

Well, I’m at work and should by rights be doing something complicated to a Share Sale Agreement, but why while away my time being a lawyer when I could be reading Firefly posts instead –sigh! I am so bored! Obsession is nine tenths of the law (no wait, that’s wrong) and I clearly have the obsessive gene in spades, but I think law is possibly the most boring career in the world . . . If I didn’t have to go to work I’d finish my novel, honest (or maybe I’d just do impossible levels of research on the internet . . .) Just came across Spring Heeled Jack – a historical London figure I’d heard about before but not really looked into . . . Just before Jack the Ripper started terrorising the London slums, Spring Heeled Jack used to jump out at people, wearing a mask with horns and flaming red eyes, blow blue flame at them and then leap off – normally evading pursuit by jumping over an impossibly high wall or such – superb!! This is the career I want – there must be an opening for terrorising the London populous – but in such an old fashioned way – almost gentlemanly, you might say . . . Anyone know were I can get a costume? Apparently – if you just attach heavy springs to your feet and try and jump you tend to break your ankles so not sure what SHJ did . . . Anybody know the mechanics involved? Still bored . . Back to looking up Firefly posts, I guess, or possibly some drafting - erk . . .. How long till the BDM?? (says Instant Gratification Girl (note to self: good superhero character)) . . .

I have to unfortunately report that things with my Dad are not going well. With the previous setbacks not allowing him to have treatment for his cancer, my Dad has taken a turn for the worse. His cancer has become too agressive, and is growing too fast for the doctors to treat him. He's been placed in a care facility, where they will make him comfortable unitl the inevitable outcome. Doctors are not giving him much more time. -'Ski
