Hi all! Thanks for so many positive posts to my recent entries! I know I haven't posted for a while, but truth is, with everyone trying to repost the material lost in the hacker incident, it just seemed like a good idea to wait. :banghead:Now that some of the traffic has thinned, I've caught the Last Spartan up, though I apologize for so many posts in so short a time. I am a hunter, though, as you may recall, :blast:and as such, much of the last month, and most of the next I'll spend in the woods. Also, since I was posting on FF.Net all this time, I wanted the story to be up to date on this site. Thanks again for all the shiny comments, and I hope you all have happy reading, and a wonderful holiday season! Bad:smile:

I was checking my emails and saw that I had a friend request on MySpace. I followed the link and saw it was my old best friend from like 3rd grade. I haven't seen him in about 10 years because he moved to another state. Happily I accepted him and had a look at his profile- one of the first things I saw was the 'Which Serenity character are you?' quiz. (He was Mal) And sure enough, under favourite TV shows: Firefly. Favourite movies: Serenity. Haven't spoken to him yet, but at least we'll have something to talk about :) P.S. Rhys, if you read this, hi.

In English now She loved me before I was It was she who made me And she was sweet and kind She was there for me always Day or night Until a blot of darkness ravished her chest And in a minute she had left me She left me She left me She left me alone Then she came and joined the family Filled a spot that was waiting And she was what I need in the night Oh and the days she was strong My sun and moon Until the snow blinded her And a heartbeat she had left me She left me She left me She left by the road Despite it all he was there Through the pain and loss And forever he was there to comfort Kissing me at night as the years passed My rock, my stone Until he stopped on the stairs And with out a beat he had left me He left me He left me He left me out a with a home Suddenly she was there My heart and home And she swore she loved me Used her body in hopes to heal me She was my life Until someone else’s light caught her eye And she walked out the door and left me She left me She left me She left me to lie in bed alone I was ripped and shredded, heart and soul Abandoned time and time again And no matter where I turned I have no one to make a home Here I am, Alone Until the pills dissolved in the now empty bottle I hold And I can finally leave me I left me I left me I left me to go home…

Yes indeed a new door has opened. Opportunity knocked and I responded. I just finished a Creative writing course at my local college and a follow up workshop. Now, bear in mind, I have always described myself as a hack, a Jack-of-all-trades, able to do whatever I put my mind to, but never well enough to say "That's what I do best." I took this course as a direct result of this site, so thank-you all for literally pushing me in the right direction. Especially thanks to SoulofSerenity, Needy, CallmeSerenity, WSYB, TheRealMe, CastIronJack... the list goes on, who encouraged me. I now stand at the doorway of a career in writing and I'm not sure which direction I should take. My teacher told me "You can write anything, and write it brilliantly". I'm not good at accepting compliments, probably because I don't feel I deserve them, but I am starting to learn. So thank-you again. Those words seem small to me, I hope they aren't to you.

Scanning through the library ('cause I'm really deeply insecure and shy around people, lol) I came accross a book of Persian Poets. Hit upon this one, which admittedly is an excerpt. Beauty alone will not account for her; No single attribute her charm explains; Though each be named, beyond glimmers she, Strangely distinct, mysteriously fair, Her this, this hers, and this-yet she remains. Wonderful are her locks-she is not there; Her body a spirit is-it is not she; Her waist the compass of a sliken thread; Her mouth a ruby-but it is not she; Say all of her, yet hast thou nothing said, Surely the beauty of an houri or a fay A fashion of beauty is-but to my eye Her way of beauty is beauty's only way. Thine eye, ah! what an arrow! thine eyebrow, How strong a bow! and what an archer thou! Ah, what a target hast thou made of me! This was by Hafez of Shiraz (1320-91) considered one of if not the finest of the medieval lyric poets of Persia, who took the form to unparalleled heights of subtlety and beauty. And though I'm sure this will cause a row, another reason why you should save ancient cultures instead of destroying them. Uncle Jayne, sigining off...keep flying!

I don't know what to say that probably hasn't been said already, but wow. Keri Russell is spectacular. I never much cared for 'Felicity'. Not real sure why, I just didn't. Nathan didn't seem to be acting at all. Capt'n looks perfectly at home in front of, to the side, or no where near a camera. I liked him in this even more than his role in Slither. Adrienne Shelly. I knew she had directed the movie, but when I saw her on screen as Dawn....it was tough to watch. She's so pretty and talented. Her energy just shows up on screen. I find it difficult to put into words at the loss I feel, for her family, friends , colleagues, and for anyone lucky enough to have met her. Or for folks like me, who only knew her by her work. I hate that she was taken from us all. As for the movie, I liked it. Though I felt it 'almost' got stuck in the 'real' world, a few too many times, it definatly had its classic moments.

Spoliers ahead if you haven't read the all the journals yet. It's finally finished and I heave a sigh of relief and also feel a little sad. I've been writing the Dr. Tam Journals since August and, other than my Master's thesis, it's the longest I've ever spent on one project. At first it was going to a be just a one shot, with Kaylee finding something about herself, confronting Simon and then the ramifications of that. But then I thought, mmm, why not make it more. But how? The first few chapters just had Kaylee reading and it had the two voices, hers and Simon's, with mine thrown in occasionally as a narrator. At first I wanted Kaylee to read the whole journal in one night but after two chapters I found that illogical and impractical from a story point of view. If it was just Kaylee reading the journals, which is basically the TV show and movie from Simon's point of view, wouldn't that get tedious after a while? So I started out with a thread of an idea from a comment someone made about how mad Simon would be if he found Kaylee reading it. So that gave me a nice little subplot. And then others kept popping up. Inara leaving, Mal and Inara getting together, Jayne's betrayal, the cargo for Harrow, the Alliance still looking for the Tams, and of course, the big one, Simon, Kaylee, and River leaving Serenity, which a lot a people hated or at least thought was crazy. By the time I got to chapter ten or so it felt like the secondary stories were taking center stage from the journals themselves so I had to be careful to balance both sides and make them fit together which was not easy at all. I watched every episode before I wrote, took notes on where Simon was and what he was doing, who he interacted with, and what would he know and not know, that we the audience knew but Simon couldn't cause he wasn't there. Other problems: getting everyone's voice right; thinking on how Simon would view all the events, his reactions to the crew, the ship and this criminal lifestyle; Kaylee's reaction to Jayne's betrayal and Jayne's counter reaction to being discovered; Mal's reaction to Kaylee leaving, and finally how to get them to leave the ship. They were always going to leave the ship and that was my ending I had in mind after the first three chapters. No angst. Well, not much anyway. No violence, no gun play, not in the present day stories, but with of course a lot in the journal readings. All action contained within the ship for many chapters. So to overcome these plot limitations I got into Kaylee's mind as a mechanic and had her and River do an inspection which was a great way to explain a lot of things and how they worked on the ship. Also the daily routine of the ship had to fit in there somehow, with meals, bedtime, laundry, cleaning dishes, and all that. Finally, having a logical but not contrived way for them to leave the ship and for that I needed a new character P.T. Beauregard, whose last name I got from a Civil War general, from the south also, like Jubal Early. I think that worked well; least I hope it did. The epilouge was always going to be the way I've written it and this was my ending in mind for many months now. Not all the details but the basics, a long view of the rest of their lives until Simon's death, funeral, and Kaylee giving the journals to their children. Mal's eulogy came as an after thought and I hope it made someone laugh and maybe also cry a little cause that was the intention. Anyways, thanks to all the people who read and those who made comments and I'm glad someone out there liked it or got a little pleasure or at least was able to read it without falling asleep. Stay shiny Browncoats everywhere in our verse!

A year ago last August, a friend of mine was admitted to the hospital. She suffered a severe blow to the back of the head, and the doctors immediately declared her brain dead. Her body was kept on life support for a week until all of her family could say one last goodbye to her, then they let her go. The next day, her husband, who was known to be abusive and a drug addict, was arrested for being responsible for her death. He also lost temporary custody of their one year old son, and there has been an on-going battle between my friend’s sister (who is in a good marriage to a surgeon and they have three children on their own) and her husband’s parents (who have a history of being neglective parents). Over the summer, the judge decided that the sister will be awarded primary custody and is ordered to give the grandparents two visitations each year. This morning, her husband plead guilty of second degree murder in her death. He will get 10-14 years in prison and will lose all rights to his son in three years. Since his health is bad, he is not expected to outlive his sentence. I’m grateful that he decided to do the right thing and confess. My friend was a good person and didn’t deserve to die at the age of 23.

Buck and Emily are proud new parents to their new baby girl, Ellie Athena. Buck is a video game addict. They did their baby's room with Mario and Peach on the walls. When I heard Emily was ok with that I thought to myself I have to make them shroom pillows. OMG it would be epic. The red one is to make sure Ellie grows up nice and big. The green one is the extra life I'm sure her parents will need after the lack of sleep.

We're living the Earth That Was. This is the heyday. Energy is still cheap, resources are somewhat plentiful, most UnitedStatesians have what they need to get by. There are some changes in the wind. It's now known that conventional oil peaked in May 2005. In about three years unconventional oil will do the same. When petroleum production does enter the phase of inevitable decline, what we know as "normal" will cease to exist. We'll all live Mal's hard scrabble existance, but it will all play out on Earth That Will Be. Those inhabitants of the Earth That Will Be will have to live within their means of renewable resources and solar flux. And they will be us. No doubt the "have mores" who have the most will form an Alliance and that alliance will merge with a Blue Sun Corp. We see it in the increasing privatization of government and the commons. Will those unable to discharge their debts end up like the Mudders? Will others form enclaves headed by the likes of Patience or Rance? When the fossil energy goes, we'll be forced to rely on are hands and heads to make a go of it. Not all will adapt. Not all will even find enough to eat. There will be scavangers, smugglers, traders, and others on the edge of the law. We may all get to be a Mal, a Jayne, or a Kaylee for real. I would recommend reading "Peak Everything" by Richard Heinberg. He seems to have the best take on what's to come when non-renewable resources are finally exhausted. The times will surely be interesting.

I dragged myself out of bed and the library (same thing this past month) to check out the WGA rally and picket this afternoon. There were dozens of Browncoats (I counted four Jayne hats!), so I showed my love for my other favorite show "Mad Men" on my picket sign. There were also lots of cameras and camcorders, so I'm sure better footage and reports of the rally than mine will surface. In brief: - Joss, Jamie, and Rob made excellent speeches - Joss giving the AMPTP a choice between the WGA's demands for fair wages or dragons  - Other union leaders attended, and a WGA insider mentioned that the AMPTP is not as strong as they appear, since they are also comprised of many factions - Support for the WGA is growing, and we should not believe the rumours that the AMPTP spin-artists will soon be spreading - Joss has a cold, but he still made it! - Rob Kutner made a few jokes about Alberto Gonzales winning Attorney of the Year, but not being able to recall the honor... I didn't get a chance to have my Jossabilia signed afterward, but I'm *really* glad I came out to show my support for the writers, and I hope this bloody strike ends soon!

In 1956, the year of my birth, M. King Hubbert predicted US oil production would peak in 1970 and decline irreversably thereafter. At that time there seemed to be as much oil in the US as we could ever want and Hubbert was a laughing stock. 24 years later, US production peaked in December 1970 and as Hubbert predicted it's been in steady decline ever since. Not even the Alaska deposits could reverse the trend. Now the Prudoe Bay deposits are in decline to the point where oil has to be batched to pump it over the Brooks Range. Since the 1970 about 27 of 51 oil producing regions have gone into decline. Canterel in Mexico, one of the largest fields discovered in the western hemisphere is now in double digit decline. In a few years Mexico will have to stop exporting oil to the US and service its own demand. The same is coming true for Iran. Venezuela's production rates have peaked despite the massive deposits of heavy crude. The big mystery remaining is Ghawar in Saudi Arabia. The Saudis have made noises about upping production, but so far it's just noise. Some sophisticated analysis of Ghawar shows that from the geology and what is known of their production rates, it seems to have plateaued. The Saudis are no longer the swing producer. In any event, the May 2005 date for the peak of conventional crude seems to be real. Peak Oil means only one thing. The global RATE of oil production is at its maximum and can only decline thereafter. It doesn't mean we've run out of oil. Hardly. Roughly half the oil still remains, as Hubbert predicted. The problem is the all economies and monetary systems are based on continual growth. Money is really a form of debt that requires continual growth to service that debt and its interest burden. Energy, or the capacity to do work, underpins growth. With no growth in energy supplies, the system grinds to a halt as the chain of payments breaks down. But that's only where the difficulty begins. A decline in available energy causes the engine to sputter. The second half of the oil supply is more difficult to recover as it diminishes. The NET energy available declines even faster. That's because deeper, heavier, more sour, crude requires more energy up front and yields less net energy on the back end. So the energy available from the second half of world reserves will not go as far as the first did. Look around you and ask yourself what do I see that has not been made from, powered with, or transported by fossil fuels? Agriculture has been transformed into a process of using soil, natural gas, and oil into food. This computer I'm typing on is made mainly of oil. The silicon in the chips depends on natural gas for refining. Clothing? Same story. If it isn't made from oil directly, it requires it to grow the cotton and process it into a tee-shirt. So what does this have to do with Firefly, you may well ask. The current system of production and governance will not survive the coming shortage of energy. Some people will choose the Browncoat way. They'll band together for their common benefit. But it will be more than that. As Mal said, they'll do for each other and not always try to gain the advantage. That's where the similarity ends. In the real world we're pretty much stuck with this one planet. Space flight for the masses or even the few will likely never happen. Imagine Serenity as a village instead of a spacecraft. Imagine Kaylee keeping the windmill going, Book telling parables after dinner, Simon attending to the sick and injured with rudimentary means, Mal a reluctant village leader, Wash a sailor, and Jayne as crude and irksome as ever. River would be left to herself to develope her own interests and talents instead of being coerced into becoming a weapon for corporate greed. I'm looking forward to a future where adversity brings out our better traits. As the cheap energy era recedes, we'll loose mainly what broke our connection to nature. People will have to relearn skills of making and doing for themselves. We'll have to think in term

Unless you count a ridiculous Harry Potter short where the wizarding world's purgatory was being employees in a San Diego Denny's... but yeah. Hope someone reads it and likes it. Whee!

My dad and I sat down and thought about it. Why does Joss keep working for Fox? I mean honestly they killed what was one of the most masterfully written shows. The slaying of Firefly is equatable with the slaying of art itself. So why does Joss work for the Empire that slayed his golden child? Well we figured it out.Fox can't let Whedon go. He is too brilliant. If they allow him to work for another network they will be overwhelmed by their competition. Not even the likes of the Simpson's or Family Guy could save them if Joss worked elsewhere. So, Fox has something on Mr. Whedon. Blackmail perhaps? Maybe they control every aspect of his life... who knows but Fox has got something that is controlling the brilliant Mr.Whedon. But why would they shoot down a show that was so wonderful, so majestic, so magnificent? Well if they let such a popular show air, Whedon might gather such a following that he could free himself from their evil clutches. I'm telling you, there is somethign maniacle about Fox. So Fox, beware, because when I make my way into coporate America I am digging up the dirt on your scummy asses. You'll regret the cancellation of Firefly.

The answer is four. And no doubt very few people will see much of a difference between this and what I posted in the picture thread (other than size) But here's the real mccoy, the project I just turned in for photoshop class. My final and crowning achievement of the semester.

Really, I am. I'm just tired of the crappy, tired of the stressy, tired of money, tired of the unhappy, tired of being hurt, tired of working, tired of the yelling, tired of the crying. Just. uber. tired. If it's alright with y'all I'm just gonna go lose my mind. Really, I don't need it right now, it gets all freaked out just fine without me... I can't remember the point to this... Oh yeah! I is tired... and a bit hungry... mmmmm, pizza rolls...

Snowball – It’s finished! I’m so excited to start posting. Snowball was conceived almost a year ago while I was engaging in one of my favorite winter sports, actually my only winter sport. I ignored it because at the time I was in the middle of writing “Underground,” (a fabulous little story in which our BDH’s get to be heros.) For some reason, however, the snowball plot bunny kept hopping back up into my head. Don’t you hate that? Perhaps it was just that in July, it’s about 110 degrees here, and the setting is a ski resort, hmm. Ok – back to telling you about Snowball. Snowball was originally conceived of as a character study, how would each of our BDH’s react to being forced to go skiing? It turned into an 11 chapter epic, with murder, swindling, smuggling and just a little skiing. I had three goals while writing. First, I wanted to try and write about how people relate to those in different social classes. Second, I wanted to write an epic adventure without any original characters that show up in more than one chapter. In this I failed, a couple of folks show up in a couple of chapters but no more than three. Lastly, I was intrigued by the gen fic challenge someone proposed in a thread some months back. The story takes place six months after the BDM, and pairings are standard; Simon and Kaylee, and Mal and Inara angst. And, it is pg-13 with the exception of a Jayne scene in chapter 8, I’m not telling you more it would ruin the fun. Of course - its Joss’s world and his characters, but I sure am enjoying the chance to use them to improve my writing skills. I need to thank Mal4prez who gave me wonderful Beta type advice throughout and has really taught me a lot about the craft of writing. I also need to thank Valeriebean who helped me figure out just how a planet could be stuck in perpetual winter.

Just felt like I had been away too long. I am actually working on a new fic, but it's going slowly. I am up to chapter 10. The new one's called The Four Winds, and takes place about a year after the events of Wish I Was Somebody Else. It is all about the action-y stuff, oh yes. But I keep 'em under wraps until I get close to the end, is all, and this one's just getting going. I'll be back when it's ready!

Hi there, I went into work yesterday to do some overtime and as I was walking across a zebra crossing some moron nearly ran into me. Then she had the nerve to look at me as if I was in the wrong. This is what the Highway code states: 171. Zebra crossings. As you approach a zebra crossing you MUST give way when someone has moved onto a crossing. I was on the crossing so she should have stopped. Anyway, on the driving front it's going slowly but well. I'm rubbish at the beginni of the lesson but by the end I'm much better  Oh and i made this banner which I was so proud of

On Various Things Firstly, my opinion on Firefly. DUH. It's wicked cool. Secondly, my opinion on the best Firefly character. Also DUH. Behold: siggy, icon, name. Thirdly, my opinion on repetitive opinionating. Give you a hint: DUH. It. Sucks. Except. For. Sometimes. Fourthly (is that even a word?), a quote: Jayne: Stop chasin' us! We don't got your damn money! Go chase the guys with the money!!! Zoë: Jayne, you yelling like that's only going to make them want to shoot you more. Jayne: How you figure? Zoë: Because it makes me want to shoot you.

If there is one thing I want in the whole 'verse, it's for all the chaos to stop. Wars to stop. Countries to put aside differences and be civil. Families with no more pointless bickering or cold and callous (sp?) comments about one another. Sadly, I know only such thing can exist in a perfect world. My own perfect...Serenity. You and yours don't have to die so I can live in my perfect world though. I believe there are enough people dying every day to get the point across. However, more keep dying, more keep shootin' and it's becoming harder and harder to believe that things will ever get better. I guess I just get thinkin' at Christmas. Every year prayin' for a change. Something better. But every year, I think society just gets worse. I get better within myself, self-esteem and respect wise, and I do what I can to help those a little less fortunate. But I still feel we as a society could do more. And then Britney Spears buys another car. Rappers spend all their money on fancy cars. And I earn my $8.00 an hour, in peace, giving when I can. It's hard for a waitress to earn money, without completely lying to her customers. But if you're thinking about what you want for Christmas item-wise, mine would be an Xbox 360. Just because they are oh so shiny. I want to play "Prey" and "Halo 3" ultra badly. Plus, Guitar Hero never loses it's touch on any system.

First her sister marries a guy who ACTUALLY turns out to be the saner of that pairing, THEN Jamie goes and gets herself pregnant at 16! How much more foolish can it get!

I have recently finsihed my own reposting, modest though it is. I had only two stories completed when the hacker struck. I waited a while to do it, since everyone else was also trying to repost. To those of you who wrote, asking me to go ahead, thank you for your requests and kind words. Hope you all have a safe and happy holiday season! Bad

Second-best birthday present after all my friends here, I just checked my grades and I kicked ass at Photoshop (better than 100%) and got a B in tech writing. Math score isn't up yet, but before the final I had a nice solid 84% so I'm sure I'm fine there. No more tech writing! For yay! Truly geeky score in photoshop! Even more yay! And I'm 23 today, so on my next Fafsa form I'll qualify as independent and should be able to get some grants! *birthday dance*

I'm awake, are you? I think I might have pneumonia. Again. Or something wheezy and cough related. I just discovered that the albuterol inhaler is no longer helping much if at all. :censored: Since it is now Sunday there is no way my Doctor's office will be open today, which means that I will probably have to desert my houseguests and take my happy ass to Prompt Care or the ED somewhere and politely ask them to kindly let me make with the breathing thing again. It honestly wasn't that bad until this/last night. Really. I'm trying to do something vaguely productive, other than cough, yet not wake the others. (Points for anyone who got that pun.) Sitting upright and walking around seems to help a bit. I'd sigh, but I'm too pathetic for even that much respiratory exertion.

Hello and Season's Greetings from Cambodia/Vietnam. I'm going to be crossing a border in an assuredly non-wintry fashion. Will someone please eat a hearty meal and drink some egg nog for me? Thanks. EDIT: I also recently purchases the entire Firefly series for $2 in Phnom Penh. Yay for bootleg. And I don't even feel remotely bad because I own the legit version back home. But now I can watch it if the urge to veg out with a DVD strikes.

The first part of the second fic in my post-BDM series, 'Falling through the deep slot', is up now, and I hope that somebody enjoys it. For anybody who hasn't read all of the first one, 'Passing through the storm,' it was reposted about two weeks ago. This one is going to be a little less action-ey, but still with plenty of hot couples stuff and as much fun dialog as I can manage to come up with. And there'll be a thrilling spacewalk scene for the climax! And I'm already thinking about the third in the series, and so on. Firefly owns my soul!! In offline news, I'll be heading off to my sister's place this afternoon for present exchanges and turkey dinner. Got all kinds of giftees for my nieces and my nephew, yay!

I know it's quite contrary to my first post about Christmas, but when I get presents I can't resist posting them! Because I'm so excited and thankful for them. Either way, my mom and dad found about my little Firefly/Serenity liking and they went all out for me. (on what they could find) So, in all, I got: -A fruity Oaty Bar tshirt! I love it! -Serenity: Those Left Behind HARDCOVER!! -A copy of "Bushwacked" the script, signed by each one of the actors -The Serenity CD -and to top it all off...an XBOX 360!    So Merry Christmas, Browncoats! What did you all receive from Buddha/Santa? hahaha!

We rented a movie last night ("The Bourne Ultimatum" if you must know) and I was watching the opening ads & previews while my S.O. made dinner. They had this extended ad for HD DVDs, with clips from a lot of different movies. I wasn't paying a lot of attention but suddenly I saw something that made me sit right up: Serenity! I'm absolutely certain I caught a glimpse of our ship in the midst of the other movies! It made me smile. Merry Christmas.

Hey, when you feel as bad as I did, twice as healthy as before is not hard to do! Had a good holiday with the family around. Made waaaaay too much dessert, which means I really need to take it in to work tomorrow and put it in "The Pirranah Room" so it gets consumed before it goes to waste. Everybody seems to have had a good time. The kids failed to have complete meltdowns despite being up at a very early hour. They definitely liked the loot. Time for jammies and bed. Nobody has to go to work tommorow but me, so I'll just let them all tuck me in. Oh, my sister is not allowed to make me any drinks any more EVER, especially vodka with cranberry and tonic. That is all I can really say on the matter, and I am hoping to avoid a hangover in the morning. Probably really shouldn't be drinking while on prednisone anyway.. I ought to look these things up before indulging. Even professionals get a little sloppy once in a while. What I don't know can't hurt my liver, right? (wrong...)

Typical, thought Malcolm Reynolds as he stared into the muzzle of an Alliance issue rifle – and heard the heavy booted feet of the squad swarming in behind and filling the loading bay of Serenity. Typical. Always the simple jobs - He would never learn. Uh huh? – And how many people had already told him that? Well, let’s be hoping for more to come… The gun he was looking at whirred with the nasty electric hum of a wasp all too keen to get on with some mean minded wilful stinging. Yep. The simple jobs. Always. ……………………………………………….. “It’s pretty” Gazing out from Serenity’s windows, looking across the dark vacuum of space and into the long field of winking lights, Kaylee had smiled. The trailer park was huge. Each stationary vehicle meant a home, people - family maybe. Any sense of regimentation long ago lost to an organic sprawl of out-houses, generators – communal areas and such. The metal conurbation hung across the void like tinsel across a black wall. Broken solar panels, storage containers, ancient oxygen cylinders and pieces of indeterminate defunct machinery – all floated around like snowflake decorations. “I lived in a place like that once.” She smiled. Simon Tam leant in close beside her, peering for a moment intently through his new glasses. He was frowning, watching a battered repair ship off in the distance as it manoeuvred alongside one of the trailer homes. It was hard to tell which of them was actually the most damaged. It was a while before he spoke. “I thought they cleared all these… places.” Kaylee caught something in the tone of his voice, concern? Disgust? She opened her mouth to say something but Jayne Cobb chose that moment to interrupt, striding into the cockpit and slamming down a large flight case. “Kaylee – Doc’…” He was smirking. “That IS the Doc’ right? Thought maybe Mal had got us transporting owls or – or – I’m sorry, is my Library book overdue?” Scowling self-consciously Simon whipped his glasses off. Kaylee muttered something but Jayne was still laughing even after she thumped him across the arms. Gorram it – the giggles could be infectious… Simon sensed something. “Oh. Kaylee, you don’t think they…?” “Hey, no!” The redhead’s reply was quick. “I think they’re… shiny.” “Been watching too much TV?” In the Pilots chair, Malcolm Reynolds had been watching the three hoe-tzes bantering up his flight deck for a while now. He smiled at the Tam boy. Simon looked relieved as he turned to the Captain. “It’s a Doctor’s lot – close work… runs in the family too…” Mal nodded. “Can’t outrun your genes huh?” He didn’t mean to – but he had flashed a look towards his co-pilot before he could stop himself. River Tam nodded eagerly. “A flaw – should be corrected – ruled out of the program – they could’ve…” She was staring now at her brother. Simon held her gaze. “Yes they could…” Jayne snorted. “What – you telling me your rich and mighty parents decided to go natural with their first born? And there was me thinking they made you in a jar.” He yelped as Kaylee thumped him again - harder this time. “That’s not funny.” She said. ……………… Zoe Alleyne and Shepherd Solomon Face were fighting again. Fists and feet and all. The damp patches on their vests and the heavy humid air bore testament to their work out. Already in his short time aboard, Shepherd Solomon Face had made an impact on Serenity. He had converted one storeroom into a kind of chapel and the empty shuttle bay, (empty since Inara’s departure) into a full time gym. “Helluva lot safer than than the damn loading bay”, he had said forcefully after one too many bruising collisions with River and Kaylee. He had looked pained, looked at the running women, looked at Mal. “They always like this?” The Captain had played it deadpan. “No, on occasion they can actually be a little high spirited.” “Dear Mother of God…” So the Shepherd had done his work. Only Jayne had objected, and for why? – Face couldn’t figure. Cobb never even came down and worked out with him. Odd. Still, that was hi

Yup, what a PERFECT combo! The Bison was nice and tender, and the Guinness got better when it reached room temp. I'll be ordering Bison burgers from now on.

For the longest time, I like to do some roleplaying online. Sometimes it was FIREFLY related in terms of working out one of my fanfics. But most of them have been more "adult" natured. Now, in the last year I've taken something of a break from these kinds of roleplays because I actually wanted a real girlfriend and not someone hundreds or thousands of miles away in another country. So I meet this girl whose into the kind of stuff I like to do, but in the last few days, she wanted to do this really elaborate play that's a true marathon ordeal. While I enjoyed it (I was the one who actually came up with the scenario), I asked her if maybe we could take a bit of a break and just slow down. Maybe not play every time she comes online. I suggested this to her, and she flips. She calls me ungrateful, tells me that she's actually speechless by my suggestion, that she's not there for my every beckon call and all that. And she ends by saying that she won't stop to my level and tells me to grow up, which I find really rich for her to say since she was the one who was acting childish. She could have easily said, "OK, let's slow things down." But she gets overly dramatic and assumes I'd do something as sleazy as post the pics she sent of her to me online. Thus, I am done with roleplaying for good. I've even deleted Yahoo Messenger from my computer. I use Facebook more nowadays for messaging. And I can easily just click on my homepage to see if I have any mail. It has been nothing but a hassle and waste of time anyways. With the exception of my FIREFLY roleplays. Those have really helped me out in the long run.

Hey All About a year and a half ago, I wrote a blog that described my last year and a half of boyhood. Thought it was fairly lengthy, and someone even commented on how that he like that I was so organized and planned. Well, as the holidays happened around me, I suddenly realized that my life as I know it (in general my educational career that started in Sept 1990, but specifically my late high school/college years that started in January 2002 here in Regina on my own) will figuratively be done on May 1st, 2008. After that, I honestly have no idea what to fuck to expect. Which while it is kind of exciting, I'm feeling more anxious than anything else. Here's what I know for sure will happen in the next four months. On the 2nd, the gym at the U of R will be back open, and I really will be hitting it everyday and not skimping out on what I'm supposed to do. Ever since last year, I only did a full six weeks twice. Just as my body's metabolism was about to shift and I'd lose some actual weight, either school, work and the CUPE 1975 strike would get in the way. But this time, since I only have one class to do, I'm determined not to slip up. This semester, I'm actually going to lose weight and look good. On the 7th, that's when I have my very last class ever on Mondays from 11:30 to 2:20, Film 401. It'll only be three hours, but outside of class I think I'll be putting more time and effort into my final film than anything else. I'm doing a documentary about the film program called ABOUT US. So far, I only have six interviews (five if you discount my bad interview of myself) and I still need to digitize one more of my HD tapes. In the next four months, I have to interview hopefully about three dozen students and teachers, find a way to rip DVD's so that I can incorporate movie clips into the doc (although I thought of an interesting back-up plan that could work), comb through tons of raw footage of student films over the years and edit it all into a reasonable length for a final student film. My last class is on the 7th of April, the 401 final screenings will be sometime at the end of that month, and then the grad ceremony will be sometime in June. But the Grad ceremony is just for show. It's that 401 screening that I feel will be the official end of my academic career. I think I'll be editing right up till that day, actually. That's how complex and emotionally invested I am into it. It's my thank you back to the program, teachers and friends I've been with for the last five years. In the old homestead, we'll have our last new roommate, this guy named Joseph, moving into the basement on New Years Day. That makes the last configuration of people living in the house me, Matt, Joseph and this guy Steve that moved in last month. Matt will be the first to move out. He's applying for a full time position in the military, so sometime in the near future he'll be moving out for good to either Kingstown or Edmonton. We're all hoping for the latter. I'm hoping he goes as late as possible, since when he goes, then it's just me and two other guys. It wouldn't be like the summer where it was me and some other roomies, since I knew he'd always be back by the end of August. This time, he's gone for good. Which I think is going to be hard for me, since we've pretty much shared a living space ever since we were like four or five. It's going to be so weird not having him around. Plus, when he goes he takes the 46 inch LCD flatscreen with him, and I have a few more Blu-Ray titles and LOST and JERICHO that I'd like to watch on it. So Matt will be the first to go, and then maybe around April, depending on whether or not I and the other guys find our own places, we'd move out either all at once or one at a time. I'm not sure how much of what's in the house I'll take with me to the new place. I was never much of a pack rat, so hopefully I can leave with not that much stuff. Although I'm hoping with my graduation coming up that I can get a bunch of money from relatives and the govt so that I can buy some new shit, like a new computer, iPod an

The swearing from the Serenity crew was not as hushed as it perhaps should have been. A burly figured detached itself from the squad and addressed Mal. “Unregistered firefly class transport.” He made it sound like a fatal illness. “Why didn’t you answer our hales?” Reynolds moved forward quickly. “Comm trouble sergeant. Can’t respond to anything right now… yeah… been meaning to get that fixed.” Riverrr!!! He yelled mentally – well, he would never learn where that girl was concerned it surely seemed… a smaller voice recalled him saying ‘and we don’t wanna be advertising you any out here, OK – so just, whatever – stay off the Comm’. He ignored that voice. “And you are?” The Sergeant’s gun hand was noticeably poised. “I’m Captain Duncan – this is my crew, and my ship the, uh, Idaho.” The Sergeant pointed a fist at the wall. “That Sigil says Serenity.” Reynolds in turn looked at the Chinese glyph painted onto the bulkhead. “Sure does. Cool huh? Pretty deep my crew – Budhist some of em. Take this man fr’instance…” he indicated Jayne’s glowering figure. “Training for a monk – y’belive that? Taken a vow of silence and everything.” Cobb’s glower turned a deep steam driven red – but the Captain was in full cry. “Not myself y’understand? I just respect people’s beliefs – the Alliance taught me that – we got a Shepherd too somewhere around.” The Sergeant had lost interest in the Captain - he turned to one of his men. “Relby? You get back to the ship and run a trace on the ‘Idaho’, keep the guns trained ‘case this punch of cow pokes figure on lammin’ outta here.” The man hurried off. At a nod, two more moved off to search the ships interior. The Alliance Sergeant regarded each of the Serenity crew in turn. “Anyone wanna tell me your business here? You got nuthin better to do than hang around this go-se trailer park?” Reynolds had braced himself. “Well, uh, Sir – a less tactful man than myself might ask you the same thing… I don’t recall hearing the Alliance had resources to waste on trash.” The Sergeant rocked back but his reply was cut off – Simon Tam was rushing down the main stairwell. Mal noticed the ease with which he did it. The Boy was nearly a sailor alright – no more slipping and scrabbling about like when he was new to the ship, must be longer ago than it seemed. Simon noticed the Captain’s look but couldn’t figure the meaning. Instead he addressed the Alliance unit as a whole. “This is a medical mission and I am the Chief medical officer here. Which one of you is in charge?” His voice carried the full weight of his upper class Osirian heritage. Instinctively the Alliance man stiffened. “I am Sergeant Louis,” he grabbed a palm top from a colleague. “And you would be?” “I am Doctor Collins – I work at the St Theresa research facility. There’s sickness here, Sergeant. We’re here to help.” “Really.” “Yes, really. Now we can waste time – and lives sergeant – standing here arguing – or you can send some of your men with me while I get out to work.” ………………………………….. Arguing – seemed there’d been a deal of that just lately. And the Doctor was good at that too – credit to him. Yet again this trip had been his idea. Simon had received a wave – or more accurately intercepted one and got into something with the women here. Seemed they needed a Doctor and swift – and payment would be due. Poor trailer place – need for medicine would be pressing most times – and women like Erren and such – checkups meant a lively-hood. An earning. Still it was a wing and a prayer when you looked at it – and Reynolds had needed persuading, which was… and back to the skills of argument. Not that he hadn’t tried to steer a course around that. He’d been perfectly equitable point of fact… “And I’m supposed to what? Go all intervention here? Polish up my hero badge? People got a find a way to live in the verse – survival makes criminals of the best of us Doctor.” Simon, however, was not letting it go so easily. “Why do you sound like you’re trying to convince yourself, Capta

Looks like I found myself again, exposing how deep my dorkiness goes (no offense to the fans and Firefly). But I am huge fan of Firefly... there, I said it. Now, I feel better. I would also share that I've watched the series on dvd again last night, for the tenth time, but that would make me look like an obsessive freak, therefore I'll keep that fact to myself. You didn't read it just now, it's all in your imagination. I'll deny it! But yeah... Firefly roxs! -The weird girl known as Shadow-

Well, wouldn't you know...as soon as winter break came, the rest of real life swarmed me like an army of Reavers and hasn't left since. I managed to finish the latest chapter of Crew, But Not that I posted, but have found absolutely no time to write anymore. It is driving me insane. At least there is only one more chapter and possibly an epilogue, so hopefully things will clear up soon. I apologize for the wait, however long it ends up being.
