Brenda: It is like a morgue around here. Guess no one is in their Sunday go to meeting clothes. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.11 23:32
Brenda: The world is in a strange place right now for sure. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.11 09:24
Brenda: I have noticed that now THG disappears on the weekend. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.11 09:22
Brenda: I can only imagine. I know a friend's dad had one because he was helping out a friend of his. This guy was just starting up his own computer company back then. That's how my friend got her first one and how I did as well. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.11 09:20
Brenda: I know when I got this thing that I did look at how many USB ports there were on it. I just don't remember now. But I'll just look again. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.11 09:18
Brenda: Okay. I will have to take a careful look at the ejection thing. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.11 09:16
6ixStringJack: After years upon years of politicians talking endlessly while doing nothing, we've finally got some real happenings with meaningful long-term consequences going on all around the world to talk about and the site dies at the same time. Ain't that life? - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.11 07:35
6ixStringJack: So much stuff going on this week, all over the world. Chaos in Iran with protests and the government shutting down their internet. Lots of people dying on both sides in the streets there right now. Trump did not mince words or stutter when he said we're taking Greenland one way or another. 5 tankers taken now, with one of them painting the Russian flag on it mid voyage, and Putin demanding its return. House passes bill for a 1 year extension on Obamacare subsidies, but it likely wouldn't ever pass the Senate in its current form. Liberal white women are now taking their toddlers and babies to anti-ICE rallies to use their own children as human meat shields because they're brainwashed lunatics. Wow. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.11 07:29
6ixStringJack: Maybe we could just "fix" the site enough that we just start off with empty forums again? That would ruin Jaynez's day for sure with nothing to necropost, and we'd loose all of that juicy history of all my correct predictions versus everything that Ted and Second have ever said will happen that never does, but I'm sure it wouldn't be long until we can build up a new history here. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.11 05:58
6ixStringJack: I wonder what Second and Ted are up to today. They had to have signed up for Reddit and BlueSky accounts at least. I can't imagine they've been able to go 3 days without arguing politics with somebody online without going mad. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.11 05:38
6ixStringJack: If you think this is complicated, you should have seen what the back of a PC looked like in the 90's when every single thing you plugged in had a different plug/socket. There's a reason why everyone has a computer today and they didn't back in the 90's, and it wasn't just the price. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.11 05:12
6ixStringJack: Oh, and yes. I would imagine that you have at least 2 USB ports on the front of your PC, and probably something like 4 to 6 of them in the back. In the back is the best place for things like keyboards, mice, wi-fi adaptors, and USB cables meant for external hard drives and cell phone charging. Things you aren't likely to pull out all that much. The front is great for things like thumbsticks and joysticks for video games and easy to access. Not that you need to worry about it because your files are small, but if you notice that any of the USB ports have a BLUE color to them, this means that they are "high speed" USB 3.0 and will transfer data quite a bit faster than ones that aren't blue. There's no difference in your case though, so don't be worried about which one you stick it in if there is a choice. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.11 05:10
6ixStringJack: I never really took that seriously years ago because it was never a problem. Until the one time that it was, and I had corrupted most of the data I had on a stick by not ejecting it. Probably 99 times out of 100 you're not going to damage any files by pulling the stick without ejecting it first, but there could be that one time where something was hanging out in limbo when you pull it and now you're stuck with corrupted data on a thumbstick you have to reformat and use from scratch. Just make sure you power the machine down before pulling the stick if you can't figure out the eject process from the article. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.11 02:35
6ixStringJack: Great. Don't forget that step at the end to "eject" the USB drive. Most modern computers this isn't an issue, but I don't know how old yours is and I know you're not using Windows 11, so it could be an issue. If you don't understand the "eject" process from the article and it would be hard to explain online, you can just wait until you power down your PC to pull the stick out without any problems. You just don't want to pull it out without ejecting if your computer is set for "write caching" enabled. "Ejecting" the drive/thumbstick makes sure all files are closed and you won't have any data corruption when you pull the stick. But shutting down the PC will make it safe to pull out no matter what. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.11 02:31
Brenda: Yeah, now that I have all the info it should be easy. Just have to do it on a day when I can give it all my attention so I don't mess up. Also have to see and remember where the USB ports are on the case. There should be two in the front. Will double check that. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.10 23:33
6ixStringJack: Yeah. You can just copy your files directly to the thumbdrive for now, just to make sure that they're backed up. If you get more comfortable with files and folders down the road, you can make folders to organize stuff. Like you can have your book and all your book notes in one folder, and any pictures from your emails in a separate folder just so everything doesn't get all jumbled up on you. Good stuff to know if you end up having a lot of files. But for right now, you should just plug that baby in and copy over your book to start just so you know it's safe. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.10 10:16
Brenda: Little white lie. I looked at the link and wrote down the title of it and I will get things backed now that I know how. Sorry for that. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.10 09:03
6ixStringJack: Hey Ted... BTW... Trump's Approval/Disapproval spread is now at least 3 points better than Biden's in his only term on this day, and both Obama and GWB's in their 2nd terms on this day in the aggregate. I figured I'd leave you with that little update in case it's the last thing you ever hear from me. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.10 04:51
6ixStringJack: You did it! You were able to back up your stuff on the drive too??? - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.10 04:46
Brenda: Thanks for the link again SIX. Got it all straight. Also thanks for the help. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.10 02:56
6ixStringJack: Shut the fuck up, Ted. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.10 01:30
THG: Stop, give Haken a chance to fix the site. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.09 20:04
6ixStringJack: Oh... to Bookmark it, you need to open it in a new tab or window and hold CTRL and press D with it in the current tab/window. If you hold CTRL D here, you will bookmark fireflyfans instead. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.09 12:28
6ixStringJack: Here it is again so it doesn't age off: [go to link] You can bookmark it in your browser by holding down the CTRL button to the left of the spacebar and press D. Or you can right click the link, select "Copy Link" from the pop-up menu and then paste the link into a word document by either pressing and holding CTRL and pressing V, or by right clicking the mouse anywhere and selecting "Paste" from the menu that appears. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.09 12:26
Brenda: No, I didn't get to the link too day. Haven't played morning mah jong in a while then I had to tromp down to cardiologist's office to make appointment for stress test. Fell a sleep too in chair. And I'm not sure about saving links. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.09 12:11
6ixStringJack: Hey Brenda. Did you copy that link and/or take a look at it yet? Let me know if you do and you have a hard time with it or not. I don't ever want to see happen to your book what might be happening to our site here right now. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.09 09:45
6ixStringJack: Maybe you should set up a Wix website, Ted. I'd consider doing it myself, but I wouldn't expect either you or Second to trust me. The site makes it easy to create a new website pretty quickly. It wouldn't be the same, and we wouldn't need all of these categories, but it might be the only way we get to keep arguing with our little group instead of out there in the void of modern social media where nobody listens to anything you post even to argue with you and the only replies and likes you ever get are from Nigerian catfish scammers.

second: Stephen Miller says "nobody is going to fight the United States militarily over Greenland" one day after posting that Western nations should not have given up empires after WWII. [go to link] - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 19:16
THG: Give it a rest folks - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 18:59
THG: HAKEN: Hi All. I'm not sure what's wrong with the message boards because it just stopped working. To make matters worse, it'll take me a while to figure out why because I wrote the code over 25 years ago and EVERYTHING is way past end of life, including the development environment and the framework that the site was developed with. I don't have a way to debug things right now and even if I could, I'm not sure I can build a running version that'll work the same. Anyway, give me a bit of time to figure things out and then decide where we can go from there. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 18:55
Brenda: Hi Six. I will take a look at the link tomorrow if the site is still around. I got all your messages. I hope this isn't the end. Site was gone for me a while ago and just came back. If it is the end. So long. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 11:58
second: Wondering who Trump kills next? Trump proposes massive increase in 2027 defense spending to $1500 billion, citing “troubled and dangerous times.” The 2026 military budget is set at $901 billion. “This will allow us to build the ‘Dream Military’ that we have long been entitled to and, more importantly, that will keep us SAFE and SECURE, regardless of foe,” Trump said in a posting on Truth Social announcing his proposal. [go to link] - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 10:12
6ixStringJack: Site was totally gone there for a minute. I hope you saw those messages and save that link, Brenda. If we don't survive here, it's been nice knowing everyone. Happy Trails... - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 09:55
6ixStringJack: You can disregard the steps 2 through 4 in the first part on identifying the type of USB port that it is. You know where you need to plug it in, and you don't have USB C or need to worry about any adapters. If you get stuck on any part, just let me know. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 06:32
6ixStringJack: This article is perfect. [go to link] - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 06:30
6ixStringJack: Hey Brenda. We might want to make those backups while the taglog still works, just in case. Your call. Let me know. I'll see if I can dig up a good step-by-step article to at least get you started. It's really not that difficult and you probably can figure it out with just a good, short little guide. I'll try to find one with pictures too. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 06:24
HAKEN: Hi All. I'm not sure what's wrong with the message boards because it just stopped working. Brenda: Thanks for the update THG. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 05:52
6ixStringJack: That white college "educated" liberal drone was trying to run over ice agents. This will be the last time a white college "educated" liberal does this. Their voices are finally being silenced. It only took white liberal women 2 generations to destroy our country. That ends now. Your time is over, Second. You had about 50 years, and you made everything worse for everyone, all over the world, at a tab of $38 Trillion and counting. Sit down and shut up. Nobody is ever going to listen to you again. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 05:40
second: 6ix, this is from today, but it is perfect example of how Trumptards pervert facts: Trump Isn’t Just Defending ICE for Killing a Woman. He’s Taking It a Chilling Step Further. The president isn't just lying about what happened. He's immediately trying to blame Democrats for it. [go to link] - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 05:36
6ixStringJack: J6 was a non-event. Trump pardoned your political prisoners. Period. And now we're coming after YOU. The people who have actively been terrorizing people in the streets for a decade. You're finished, Second. I told you that over a year ago when the election happened. The world you knew is dead. You'd better adapt quickly, or become obsolete. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 04:50
THG: Haken knows what is happening with the site. What he can do about it I wouldn't know. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 04:10
second: David Nicholas Dempsey pleaded guilty to two felony counts of assaulting an officer with a dangerous weapon. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison. On January 20, 2025, claiming he loved the police and would only pardon the innocent, Trump pardoned Dempsey and roughly 1,500 others charged with or convicted of offenses related to the Capitol insurrection. Why did Trump do that? Because a Trumptard’s reality is one prevarication after another. Their words are venomous snakes leaping out their mouths. [go to link]/ - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 04:08
Brenda: Site still broken. I brought up Garden thread and got list of number of pages and when I clicked on one page there was nothing. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 03:28
6ixStringJack: Weren't you just accusing me of being an evil nihilist just last night, Dr., Second? Do you own a mirror? Yeah, Dude. Reality is against all of us. Even the rich are going to die, and if there is an afterlife that is just, they're likely going to be punished harshly for what they did to keep reality at bay for them while they were here. I'm glad you're not sucking on rainbows and lolipops anymore after a very rough year for you. You've let a LOT of bad people in our boarders and you cheered the entire time, calling anyone who was against it a racist because that is what your media told you to do. And now the reality is that nearly every Western nation has hundreds of thousands to millions of battle-age males who hate the countries they're currently living in and want to see them reformed in their image. That is our current reality, and you did that. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 02:15
second: Reality is evil. Like everything that exists – stars, microbes, oil, dolphins, shadows, dust and cities – we are nothing more than cups destined to shatter endlessly through time until there is nothing left to break. This, according to the conclusions of scientists over the past two centuries, is the quiet horror that structures existence itself. What would our metaphysics and ethics look like if we learned that reality was against us?

6ixStringJack: Site looks totally broken now. When I could finally load a few threads, they're completely empty with no posts inside of them. - http://www.fireflyfans.net 01.08 00:53
