I'm trying to get my cat to tolerate riding in the car. So far: cat 1, me 0. She peed all over me and the front seat. Had to go get emergency change of clothes from mom. Looked like idiot in crop pants. The good news is, there's still time for kitty valium from the vet if all else fails...

As I mentioned in a previous blog, I decided to get the Sims 3 and recreate the crew of Serenity. I also wanted to experiment with whether the crew would autonomously develop relationships like they have in the show. This has occasionally had some amusing and/or disturbing results. For example, in one of the versions I was playing, Inara developed an autonomous attraction to... Guess. No, wrong. Jayne. x_x In the version I’ve been playing the most, Inara (unsurprisingly) has become the first character to want to actually have any sort of romantic interaction with another character. You are probably too frightened by the last one to even try to guess, so I'll just say it this time. *singsong* Inaaara liiikes Maaal. *singsong* Although I remain unconvinced that this is conclusive, particularly considering the previous... event. In any case, for anyone who has the Sims 3 or who wants to try this, I decided to post my profile, where I have all the characters available for anyone who wants to try to make their own version, and also three different versions of the crew for quick load and play. There's a few options here, you can choose to have Inara or Book, or to have Zoe and Wash married or not. I have to admit, I'm not entirely satisfied with how Wash looks, I can never seem to render him very well in either drawing or apparently here. But maybe someone will do a better version sometime that I can adopt. :)

AAAARRRGGGHHHHHHH!!!!! Not sure this adequately expresses my level of frustration at this particular moment, but I am not always the most articulate individual on the planet when thwarted....

Ni-howdy, all of you going to Dragon*Con: As you're exiting the Centennial Ballroom after Ron Glass's Q&A on Friday, stick around on the Concourse to hear the Bedlam Bards singing your favorite Firefly-inspired songs! And of course, remember you can get our CDs at our table in the Marriott lobby. See you there, Cedric

So I'm making a website for my dad's website and it refuses to read php code when it specifically says that his server will support it. his site is www.caats.ca and it isn't working and I don't know why!

I thought things had gone way south there for a minute, but it was just an impatient moment on my part (no!). So I'm back to being excited about travelling. Not so excited about all the prep work involved, or the packing. The Clampetts have accumulated a lot of shit over the last fifteen years. My mom's basement looks like the warehouse at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and all I've packed so far has been books...and I've gotten rid of a lot of stuff...Goram can't tell I've done anything, though... How did I get all this shit?!?! Did it breed when I wasn't looking? Were there space monkeys involved? I know there had to have been terrifying space monkeys involved in this mess somehow!

So, last week my friends and I were bored and heard that Gossip Girl was filming a few blocks away. We decided to go watch, in hopes of seeing the stars (which we did). As a fan of the show I was pretty excited to actually meet theses people, but I was pretty chill about the whole thing. Then I saw Gina Torres walk past me. I FREAKED-THE-FUCK out. Most of the other people there (including my friends) had no idea who she is other than someone playing something on Gossip Girl (Vanessa's Mother). I asked for (and got) her autograph (on the back of my Cosi receipt!) all the while trying to keep my inner geek from being too apparent. (I definitely failed, she laughed, I loves it.) I keep it in my Firefly DVD case (disc 4). There is no real point of this blog other than kinda bragging for just randomly finding Gina Torres on the street. It made my year so far.

So i'm so lame. I tried, i really tried to escape from this place and put all my works in one area together but when it came down to it, i just love posting my stories here! So i'm nearly finsihed my series, and i've edited a whole stack of the first episodes and will repost the final works within the year i'm sure! I can't wait to have the series completed and i can't wait to here what you all think when my storylines all come together. I know people will both love and hate what i am going to do with the characters but that's all part of why i'm so excited to get it up on here.. Sorry i've been out of the loop. Leaving now... D PS SUMMER! I did manage to kill half the series and have to rewrite it, so that sucked...

Come on, writers! It's September, the autumn (if you're in the northern hemisphere) is just around the corner with its marvellous red and gold tones, so we should all be being inspired! This is a marvellous site set up for us by Haken, and we need to keep the impetus going, so if you've got a little ficlet, or even (hopefully) something much longer on the backburner, bring it to the boil and upload! I just posted my last fanart image to the BSR. And only now I realize I've never captured Inara. Yes, that's a commentary on me. I've come to appreciate 'Nara, for sure. And I've always had a strong, protective love for River. But over the years I've really developed a warm and deep bond with the Kaylee character (certainly fueled by Jewel's own endearing personality). There's so much child-like innocence and trust in Kaylee; always vulnerable and open; hurt, at times, but never closing off because of it. You know, the whole 'dance like nobody's watching; love like you've never been hurt.' thingy. In many ways, I'm so like Kaylee, my own self. Or rather, I so wish I could be like her (which, after a fashion, probably means I'm like her, after all). So I guess it's only fitting that I should end with Kaylee. I guess I'm a experiencing some hurt myself. :( And no, not because no one appreciates my art, LOL. I ain't delusional. At best, I struck the occasional high note with my work. And I had peace with that. Rather, it pains me, every day anew, to see the Firefly light grow dimmer, every day anew. In earnest, I truly miss the days of lore, when the 'Verse was still brimming with optimism and life. I loved walking amidst the giants, all these talented artists who poured out their love for Firefly out of every pore. We weren't all good, but we were all there. And now, not so much. And so, today I realized I can't keep flyin' like this. I'm not so afraid of losing something that I won't try having it. But the more I try having it, the more I realize it's gone. No, the 'Verse ain't dead; but it's dying: something a good deal more painful. :( Yours in the 'Verse, RB

Yep, an actual living, breathing Kaylee. That was her name. 1st time I'd ever met a Kaylee, or even heard that name, outside of Firefly. She was a teacher at my nephews school. Seemed nice enough. No idea whether she'd even heard of Firefly or not, didn't get 'round to askin'. I've no idea if she spelled it the same way, or if it was Kayleigh, which seems to me a bit more Southern.

i like to write stories a lot, just little fiction thingies, but for some reason, i keep writing charecters names as simon or simone or something close to simon. i think my brain is just wired to think of his name a lot or something. its kinda freaky. but then again, if your addicted to something like i am to firefly, then your brain should be wired to think only of that. everyone who reads my stories are getting kinda annoyed though cuz there like 'is this the same simon as in you other story?' and everything. i think its kinda funny

We've been wanting to print a shirt saying: "I got run over by Dragon*Con. Wheeeee..." So Sunday night I went out with AB Mick and bounced between they Hyatt and and the Marriott until seven in the AM. We tried hitting they Pirate Party in the Hyatt but as a very disappointed Ninja pointed out as we got there, "This party sucks." As we left we stopped at the Hyatt Parasol Bar and each grabbed a 12 dollar drink we dubbed as "Rum Bucket". it was mixed in a huge stainless urn as follows: two 32 ounce bottles of cranberry juice, one gallon of orange juice, two frozen cans of pineapple juice, and four bottles of rum (coconut, banana, apple, and regular). Served over ice in at least a 24 ounce bucket. Deceptive and fun. So we walked back to the Marriott and hung out just outside the front door for the rest of the night with a few thousand people including a goodly portion of the 76th. After some quick advertising there were soon Rum Buckets by the dozen. Along with a backpack of Guiness, refillable flask of Bushmills, and the bottle of Sailor Jerry it seems the 76th and friends were very well fueled. We were graced with the presence of a piper that was kicked out of the Hyatt for "playing too loud" Drinkin; and dancing brought the night to a close (and the rising sun of course). AB Mick and myself went to the end of the D*C rave where there was about thirty people still dancing. Everyone was winding down with Bowie and yes I may have even went out and danced a bit. Despited the blistered pavement pounded feet and a strangely twisted back that night really helped me wind down a little better than last year. I was feeling really sad as we watched the Masquerade on D*C Sunday night. Everyone in the room was spent and milking every last moment they could out of the Con. Despite the sadness and sickness I couldn't help but truly think that it is still one of the greatest things I've had the chance to experience. I've always had a curse/gift that has never settled well with me. Whenever I had physical contact with people there would always be some leeching of energy that I would carry around with me. It has never been good things that followed me around. But this time I don't feel that ugly lingering shadow. If heaven doesn't have a Con then I might reconsider applying.

I can't remember my new goram email address. I was gonna post it up here and let everybody know about my new wordpress blog...which I also consequently can't remember now either. Thankfully, I sent all the info to my old email and it isn't lost forever, but seriously? How goram annoying is that? Too much new & uncertain floating around in the flotsam and jetsam that is my thoughtwave. :banghead:

I really feel like standing up and applauding. I sometimes do that in movies, ya know. It's an odd thing and not many people do it, but I still do on occasion. Yes, I know that none of the people who made the movie can hear me, but it's an acknowledgement of a job well done. If I think it deserves applause, dagnabbit, I'll clap and I don't care who turns around and looks at me. But this was not a movie. It was a book. I came in late to this series. At first it was just to see what all the fuss was about. People were rattling on and on how great they were. That there had not been anything quite like it in years. I'm speaking of Harry Potter and I just finished reading The Deathly Hallows. When my kids got old enough to be interested in it, I, the concerned Christian parent that I am, had been hearing all sorts of things about the evils of witch-craft and the dangers of letting children read such things about magic and sorcery. And to be honest, I almost heeded those warnings. Then I remembered my own youth. I was an avid fantasy reader and role-player in high school. People I knew kept telling me about how Dungeons and Dragons games had been known to become possessed by Satan or how people had let those types of games go to their heads and they became immersed, irrevocably, into a fantasy in their minds. There was even a movie about it. Remember "Mazes and Monsters" starring Tom Hanks? I thought of how absurd those comments were back then because A) I turned out okay, B) some of those stories were just that - stories - and C) that folks who actually beleived that kind of thing was real truly had something mentally wrong with them to begin with (like Tom Hanks' character in that movie). But just to be safe, I read the first one before letting my son read it. I found it to be an extremely enjoyable book that was excellently written. The length of the next books bothered me and the rumors of it getting darker was a little worrisome, at first, but with each book, the stories just kept getting better. Darker yes, but not exceedingly so. The movies then started coming out and we've seen them all. Like most, I think that "Prisoner of Azkaban" was my favorite even though some major points were left out that would have taken only a few more minutes to point out or digitize (Harry's patronus and how meaningful it was, for one). The latest, "The Half-Blood Prince" though straying quite a bit here and there, was still very enjoyable and well done. The only one I haven't cared for so far is "Goblet of Fire." At any rate, like I said, I just finished The Deathly Hallows and I was so happy with how it ended. Being the sensitive guy that I am, I admit that I teared up in the last few pages when Harry goes to see Dumbledore's portrait and left incalculable power behind. I wanted to applaud Rowling for such an inspired work. The fact that she came up with that entire world, complete with the spells and their own sport, is astonishing. Even more so that she kept bringing things up from the previous books and showed their significance. Throw away dialog turned out to be extraordinarily important. But then, I had a twinge of sadness. There would be no more. No more stories about Harry. No more Ron and Hermione. No more wonders of the wizarding world from Rowling's imagination. I only felt this way once before and that was after the end of "Return of the King." The sigh of relief that the peril of the storyline was finally over, joy that those I cared about would live "happily ever after," yet sadness that the story did, indeed, end. The characters I had invested so much time in would not be seen again in any new adventure. Sure I could watch everything again, read it all again, but there will always be that yearning for something more. Something new and exciting. And now my search will begin anew. I'm a picky sort when it comes to books. I have my favorite authors and find it particularly hard to find new ones that I like. I love Robert Asprin and Peirs Anthony. Douglas Adams is a favo

Okay, here we go. Took some doing, as my old email has suddenly decided to go all crazy and unreliable on me, but here it is. Drum roll please... PlainJayne13thKy.wordpress.com is the blog. Jayne.Ky13th@rocketmail.com is the email. Yes, that's what everyone wants...to hear more of my ranting about random shit. Well, I figure if everybody else is doin' it, I might as well put my 2cents in. That may be about all its worth...

Howdy browncoats…. Just a little update on what has been going on in the Z family. My mother slipped and fell early Tuesday morning and my sister and I called an ambulance and had her brought to a local hospital. Turned out she had broken her leg bone right below her hip. I’ve spent the last four days with her in the hospital, she’s had surgery and is doing fine. Funning thing….while we were in her room CSI came on the tv and the episode was the one with Wash in it (Alan Tudyk). Enjoyed seeing that episode and I told my sister and brother ( down from Dallas) about it. Anyway, I’m heading back to work tonight. Looks like our mother will be in therapy a while but so far so good. Them’s the breaks ( sorry about the pun). Hope everyone else is going well. See ya, Z ( still holding)

wondering if there are any Mal/Saffron fics around. Could be a fun pairing for a one off?

Hmm, okay, yeah, ummmm. *shifts about* It's been frickin' MONTHS since I updated 'Where They Don't Follow'. Regarding that, I have good news and the other kind. Which do you want first? Well, too bad, 'coz I'm giving you the good news first. :P The good news is, during those months I very slowly but surely got a handle on what was wrong with the first few chapters. But only in the last couple of days did I manage to headdesk my way through them and hammer out a new course. Which brings me to the other-kind news: The first few chapters will have to be revised. Heavily. Didn't want to repeat the 'Guns' act, but I'm going to have to do just that - pull down the first chapters, toss them in the forge, bang them into shape and then start over. At least I know I don't have to go that far with 'Love & War' as I'm already starting on the climax - even though I won't even be posting it until next year. Conundrum? Mebbe, but I will NOT air my fanfics out of order, you hear? :P Off now for some deletion and heavy-duty fic-hammering. And THESE....are not the hammer. The hammer is my pen....cil.

I had a close encounter with a lovely slice of ice cold watermelon about a month and a half ago. It was delicious and perfect. I love a good slice of watermelon. I bit down on the icy goodness and just about dropped my ass in the floor. Pain shot down through my jaw, into my gorram toenails. I'd had issues from time to time with sensitivity, but nothing that bad. Hadn't been to the dentist in awhile, so I figured I better go. Figured I had a cavity or something and the cold set it to hurtin'. So I went to the dentist (which is something I hate, almost as much as I hate spiders--but you gotta do what you gotta do, right?), and I was very shocked to get a clean bill of dental health. No cavities. No gum disease. Yay, me! The pain from the watermelon incident faded to an intermittent, dull ache then eventually went away completely. Again, yay me! I'm good to go. No, not so easy. It started to hurt a little bit again Sunday night at work (probably because I was about to grind my teeth down to nubs with my high levels of stress and general irritableness); no biggie, I took some motrin when I got home and went to bed. Monday afternoon when I got up, I could feel the hurt coming, but I took some more motrin and figured I'd be okay. By 3am, I was up and out to Walgreens to try & find something to ease the shit up so I could try to sleep. Ice didn't work. Tequila didn't work, although after a couple of good-sized shots the jaw throbbing was the only thing I could feel. I bought some of that crap you give teething babies even, that didn't do a damn thing either. So, I called the dentist & went back in today. Guess what? I have a fractured tooth in the back of my mouth that's been leaking food and crap down into the roots (which look like fish-hooks, BTW, so we won't be pulling that sombitch out without a fight) and I get to go see a specialist tomorrow to see if I need a root canal or something even more fun. It didn't show up on the xrays because it's split in such a way that the xrays wouldn't have caught it with 500x the rads. I drew the senior dentist in the group, and he poked around in there until he found where it really gorram hurt and said, "uh huh, I'll bet that thing is fractured..." Let me just say that this is the last thing I wanted to hear about this afternoon. I'd rather have him tell me there's nothing wrong with me, that I'm just crazy and shouldn't ought to worry about it so much. Much better than, "wow, I bet that does hurt..." and "I'm going to refer you out to a specialist." Have I said already how much I hate going to the dentist? Hate it. Hate it. Hate it. I hope this guy's got enough nitrous to put my ass out, or this little adventure is like to get real interesting...I think I have a xanax left for this very contingency...hope I ain't packed that shit up...

I apologize for the lack of updates recently. I'm back at school and I've been extremely busy with both classes (senior year = exhausting senior-level classes) as well as playing around in the Star Trek XI fandom, which I've kind of fallen in love with. (If you want to read some of my writing for ST XI, it's at my Fanfiction.Net account, under GorramitGirl.) I did a lot of re-working on Still Flying and that's another reason why it took so long for an update. I'm happy with where it's going, however, and there may be one or two one-shots after Still Flying is finished before I launch into another Multi-Part story. To those of you who've been patient with me, thank you so much. You make it all worth it. To those of you who haven't been patient with me, *shrugs*. Eh, whatever. - GG

A few months ago I got the opportunity to move to Hawaii for work. Well, yesterday I finally got here to the island of Oahu. Right now I'm living in a hotel room and waiting for my car to be shipped here, but I am here. I start my check in process for work today and will probably begin looking for a place to live this weekend. If anybody knows some places I should check out, I'd much appreciate the advice.

Boy this thing has really hit me hard this year. First my daughter came down with what I thought was the Dragon Con crud and I was praising God above that I'd skipped it. That was until Sunday evening when I started to get congested and a fever started. I tried the recommended remedies of rest, ibuprofen, fluids etc but after I started coughing sometime on Tuesday I told myself that it was time to drag myself to the doctor. Went to the Urgent Care Center Wednesday morning and I sat there with several others, all with masks on our noses and mouths and all coughing like braying donkeys. The nurse did a quick flu test, which, surprise, surprise came up negative despite my classic flu symptoms. Turns out she had just recovered from the same symptoms and her flu test was negative too. The Nurse Practioner did have common sense and said that she and the doctor at the clinic were treating everyone with flu symptoms as if they had the flu despite what the flu test said. I ended up with some medicine, mostly notably, cough syrup with codeine. It knocks me winding and I don't take it unless I can sleep. I do feel just a tiny bit better today but I am sooo tired. I'm also going back over some unfinished fic that's been on my hard drive for a while. Dragon Con and the Browncoats: Redemption crew got me reinvigorated and maybe I finish some of it up. That is as long as I can stay awake.

I actually wrote this fic in response to a request on "Serenity Santa" last year on Live Journal and to see if I could write anything beyond young Mal. The requestor was heavily in to Mal/River and I had no idea if I could write it without going into NC-17 territory. I've never written NC-17before and really didn't want to do it with Mal/River.(I'm attempting an NC-17 fic in another fandom by doing a POV fic of one part of a canon couple. It's a scene that's both very tender and erotic. It's very difficult to get beyond the who put what where and focus on the emotions.) I'd always wondered how uncomfortable River could make Mal if she developed a crush on him. Of course, Mal's going to think about acting on his thoughts, and be very uneasy with the feelings River brings out. But of course, he won't act on them with River.

Hey folks. This may sound really weird, but I've been noticing that when people give me a positive review, I start acting like a damn puppy, complete with tail-wagging. It's kind of embarrassing. I guess in the past I've been sort of starved for compliments on my creative stuff, and that's why I act that way. But I'm really not trying to fish for compliments... Did I get too florid with a paragraph? Hit me with it. My grammar sucks? Tear it a new one. Hate my ugly face? Go for it. And ratings. I think a nine or a ten are ratings for a piece that you like so much that a few months (or even years) later, you might go back and read over. A seven or eight is a piece that you like, but that you'll probably only read just the once (or twice, if you're commenting). A five and six is something that didn't really strike you one way or another. A three or four is something that kind of bothers you, maybe you don't know why, or maybe you do, but it's something that's just a little bit troubling or nibblesome. Ones and twos, well... You know. Of course, this is coming from someone who rarely rates, if ever, but still. It's just a thought. There's a lot of good authors and stories on here, yeah? We all have equal amounts of merit. Um, and I know that pairings can factor into likes and dislikes, I might even sound like a bit of a hypocrite here, but I think normally we all kind of congregate with the pairings we're comfortable with, and that's fine, because it lets us ALL be. It's just that when there's accidental overlap, there can be friction. It's important to not mistake that with writing being "good" or "bad," because it's all relative. This is something I need to remember too. Anyway, that's my two cents.

its my friend emilys birthday soon, and she was the one that introduced me to firefly, so i needed something really special. about a week ago, my mom was making these discusting looking energy bar things, but they taste pretty good, and i just instinctivly thought of fruity oaty bars! so for emilys birthday im gonna make her some energy bars with a label on them that say "fruity oaty bars" with random blue chinese girls on it saying "holy testical tuesday" just like in the movie! lol so is it a good idea or what?

With fall coming, it's the perfect season for invigoratingly crisp weather and changing leaves and HIKING. There's a mountain around Salt Lake City called Reynolds Peak that I like to do every year. Might be best to not think too much about that one. But nice little meandering three mile path up to a lake, highland meadows and mixed pine/aspen forests a plenty. Then BAM! tough little 30% grade climb up the grassy aspen hillside for about forty minutes to the top.

Hey! So, sorry about the reposts to those it annoys. They have all been re edited and re written so if you have read them and want to again you will find extra hidden gems within them. If you haven't read them, i hope you chose to and enjoy getting lost once again in the Verse, i know i do when i write them. Also for the new readers i write my stories in Script form as though they would be used for shooting episodes. The only thing i haven't yet done is fine the Chinese translations so instead i write (what i would like to one day be in Chinese) within brackets. I'm sure you will pick it up. If anyone is interested (and this is a big IF) i also have written a pilot to a television series i have created if you would like to read it. I am thinking of filming it and turning it into a web series but it is still in storyboard mode. If i eventually get it filmed and post it on YouTube i will let you all know. Thanks for sharing! D

I descended into shipdom by degrees. This is a cautionary tale, and also, a way to grant myself permission to write. Not that long ago, I was sure that all fanfic writers were raging Suethors, only slightly more tolerable than furries and cosplayers. I suspect that if I met someone who admitted to being a fic'er, I would have given them a wedgie or a purple nurple (assuming there was no handy trash can to stuff them in). But one day, I took a wrong turn on the interweb, and ended up here. Much to my horror, I found myself reading Firefly fanfic and enjoying it. Not just enjoying it, but growing emotionally invested in it. Whats worse, the stories I enjoyed most were...romances. Screw plot and action. Just give me girl stuff. Mal and Inara and their stupid imaginary feelings enthralled me. I found myself eagerly following Clio and Aliasse, and shaking my fists at the heaven when their updates were slow. I began to doubt myself. Were fan ficers perverse Suethors, or more like the anonymous storytellers that left us the Arthurian cycle? Were they douches pumping out shitty fantasy narratives to fap to, or creative geniuses making magic out of pop culture leftovers? Or is this a false black-and-white distinction, like those made by my favorite petty thief? So now I'm a Mal/Inara shipper, happy to chew the same mouthful of story over and over again, so long as nobody catches me doing it. Mal/Inara are frozen in time and incomplete. People breathe life into them, for a moment, but there is never closure. Miserable shippers will recreate and relive moments that never happened, but should have, in perpetuity. The petty thief and whore will get togther a million times, not get together a million times; they will endlessly loop through fluff and angst. None of its real, but all of it matters to me, and I hate that. Now, I have hit a low point, and am fumbling with my own fanfic. I have begun to doubt my manhood, and live in fear that my peers will discover this new interest of mine. Angst suits my tastes--I like my Mal/Inara unhappy. I want to continue the heartbreak and tension, not resolve it. To hell with catharsis. But secretly, I know I want them to live happily ever after and have dozens of babies. It makes me sick to learn this about myself. So anyway, I am a sissy, and I do not know where I go from here.

So, I was sitting in my fairly-shiny chinese restaurant the other night, eating my delicious hong kong style chow mein...with my ma, as she dropped by. Ain't much acquainted with the serenity that is firefly, my ma. So behind me a guy gets up, leaves a tip, and goes on his merry. Ma says: Hey, that shirt looks interesting. What's a Browncoat? And why do they misbehave? Distinguished me: Was his shirt a brownish color? I have a lot to say about that... So, a shout out to whatever fine gentleman decided to articulate this choice through his fashion. It provided much merriment. Nihowdy!
