Anyone who knows me knows I had a very bad night last night, I just wanted to say that everyone who replied and left comments on my fic is gorgeous and I love them for supporting me and making me feel better. THANK YOU.
I think we all know where I'm headed with this, just warning you now.

Interesting. Very, very interesting.
Might I also add, you are very very fast. Your muse is most kind.

You are truly excellent! This story is great, and I can hardly wait to delve into the rest. Thanks for sharing all of this with us!
I have soooo many questions - but you always do such a great job of exposition that I have no worries!
Also, I hope life starts treating you better. Things just don't go smooth, do they? :)

Interesting, yeah....Jacqui you, like Kaylee, are not telling us all the truth, right???
I still believe that's Jayne' son...
Oh yes, I'm a romantic girl...
Thank you Jacqui!
And thanks for your kind reply on my topic at the Blue Sun Room, too.
You gave me hope!

Hmmm. Simon knows/sees something that makes him sad. Kaylee's not allowed to forget Jayne's blue eyes. Hmmm. Not even going near the "James" name.
Odds are favoring the merc again.
I'm curious though what happened w/ the Reavers and what James saw that scared him.

Something tells me that little James saw the Reavers gnawing at some necks. Probably Granpa & Granny.

Even though nothing happened really, this feels bittersweet... I'm scared for someone. Must have the next one soon though, because really...if you don't want impatience you'll just have to learn not to write so darned well! ^^

Hmmm. I have that airline ticket reserved, you know... *grins*
Kaylee'd better be lying through her teeth... or, then again, maybe not. If she is, it means she hasn't really grown up at all.
*shouts at Kaylee* Tell the TRUTH, gorramit!
More. STAT. Or else.

Is James having a reaction to loud men because of the Reaver attack, or did our little Kaylee hook up with a Neanderthal abuser to punish herself? To paraphrase the great philosopher Homer (Simpson): When it comes to fan fiction, readers are like ravenous, blood-sucking monsters, always wanting more - more - MORE! (Please write more soon) :)

I was wondering the same thing that BCSPantherfan mentioned. Either seems like a good launch point for a story, although very different stories.

James is a nice plot twist that I didn't expect. Thanks for keeping us on our toes.

Beautifully written, the bittersweet is there, just under the surface. I'm eager/afraid to hear what's behind it!

Hmm...now of course you've got me thinking. I wonder just what lil James has seen in his short life.
Impatiently waiting for more!

I'm with the others...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let James belong to Jayne. Then, please let Kaylee fess up. At least to him. At least at some point. I'm a romantic, too. Can't help it. So glad you have chosen to continue this fic. Can't wait for the next chapter. /M

Ok, Jacqui.
20 months. Means that the kid is more or less 11 or 12 months old, assuming Kaylee already knew she was pregnant before deciding to leave Serenity.
Or maybe she just left because of that reason...
That could mean just two things:
The kid's Jayne's
(can't be Simon's, we all very well know that they never made love completely...Or are hiding us something here Jacqui???)
The kid isn't Kaylee's. Maybe he's the son of one of her relatives killed by the Reavers. James calls her "Mama" obviously, he's too little to understand she's not his natural mother, I guess.
I refuse to believe that she jumped on the bones of some new guy right after leaving the ship...sorry that would be so wrong!
Ok that Kaylee is a sexual creature (in a good sense) needing some comforting and all but that would be really too much!
Anyway if I was her I would be too torn inside to even think about messing around with the first farmboy met in bar...
So, well unless you found some very unpredictable twist to make us losing sleep again, I have to stick on my hopeful theory that little James is Jayne's kid.
She would need time, she knows Jayne would never let her go if he knew James was his son.

Kaylee saying, "He's not yours" to Jayne makes me think of what Nandi said in Heart of Gold, where she says the baby belongs to Petaline, regardless of who the father might be.
For the most part, a woman becomes a mother when she gives birth to a child. Being a father is more complex. (There are exceptions, of course.)
I've seen too many men who were just biological sperm delivery systems. Children were born with their DNA, but they were never really fathers.
Regardless of paternity, let's see someone earn the right to be this child's Daddy.

This made me cry! It was painful and beautiful in all the right places. Loved River's reaction to James. And Wash with the trying to bond (and Zoe's comment about Wash's shirt!). And Jayne, he has to know. This comment was perfect
"Kaylee looked at him and Jayne felt it hit right deep in the middle of his chest. Her face was pale, drawn out and weary, an’ that was if he was bein’ kind enough not to mention the fear that hid just underneath. Mal had been right, she'd lost more weight than he was comfortable thinkin' about, but it was her. And she was still beautiful." Angst, yes, but lovely angst.
Poor Kaylee and James, they need some serious healing and Serenity (Renity! How cute!) is exactly the place they need to be.
I can't wait to read more: what happened to Kaylee and James, and what is the real story, and ... okay I'll try to be patient, but really isn't not what I'm known for.
Hope you're doing better.

There's no question that your muse was speaking through your heart on this one. Your stories are a gift to all of us, Jacqui, as you are yourself to those fortunate enough to be your friends.
I'm lovin' it - always.

I don't know if it is safe to uncurl from this little ball shape I have myself in and come out from under the desk, or it is best to just stay here and wait. You let that muse know she is loved...then put her to work!!

Going back to the conception thing, there's another possibility. We don't know when the Reavers exactly hit the planet, just "some months back." What if she ran into a someone disoriented Reaver who got the order wrong and then Kaylee got away? Then we get the demon-child subgenre and a potential chrysalis-puberty subplot.
Or is there something else about his condition that Simon is picking up on?
As far as the Jayne possibility, I assumed that it could be a consequence of the "Sleepless" sequence.

Faster would be better, Jacqui, keep them coming.
Love Jayne sitting there watching without watching. I held my breath reading this part. Just beautiful!
I'm going away for the weekend and I'm so looking forward to seeing what you have posted when I get back. Makes my heart skip a beat.
