Chapter 8-- The End of the Beginning

There was no music, no flowers, no cake. Just Jayne and River and the rest of the crew of Serenity, standing in a semi circle, around the happy couple. Kaylee hadn't stopped crying since River floated gracefully don't the cargo bay stairs looking less like the angel faced girl Jayne fell in love with and more like some sultry siren. He didn't know where she got the dress, but he knew he'd have fun peeling it off her body.

Mal stood in front of the couple at first not knowing what to say, he never officiated over anything like this. He said some kind words about his soldiers when the died during the War and he had given his crew a pep talk or two, but for some reason he was speechless as he looked at his Merc gazing lovingly into the eyes of a girl that Mal could barely recognize... Ai ya, she had grown so much.

"Sir," Zoe said and Mal sighed.

"We ain't got much on this boat," Mal began. "We can't even throw a proper wedding, we might be short on supplies and running from the law, but we have each other. You couldn't tell me three years ago, this group of people would not only become a family, but that they would fall in love with each other, sectioning off into some of the oddest pairs the verse have ever seen, I would have insisted that there was something broken in your brainpan," he chuckled and the crew smiled. "But here we are, getting ready to join together in marriage the most deadl

awwww... look at all the happy couples! i bet they're going to have to develop a love-making rotation list so they aren't all caught with their pants down when devious villains try to take over the ship.

absolutely LOVE zoe giving her ring for the wedding (though i don't recall her actually wearing one in the series). also love that she and mal share a moment after the ceremony. he's such a good friend to her.

and poor river! wandering back to the academy on her wedding night. i worried that maybe she was reading saffron and the crew might get a heads up, but grrr!!! evil evil academy!

is there anything i can offer that will bring the sequel on faster? i am totally hooked!

Yes, they are going to learn to take turns so that someone's watching the ship ... ooh, how do I hate Saffron - she is just a mean, nasty witch!

I loved Simon and Kaylee's moment and how bereft he is over the fact that he can't give her a child ... I hope he does believe Kaylee and realizes that she wants him. And of course, now I'm worried about what our intrepid heroes will do with no fuel ...

I read "The Need" and I read all of this, and haven't said anything so far. I must say that this is one of the best fanfics I've ever read. Keep up the good work.

Some utterly shiny work here, JJ! And I totally agree that the crew needs to come up with a sexin' schedule for when they have questionable people aboard so they don't get sabotaged like they did here;D

Maybe I'm weird, but YoSaffBridge has definitely been coming off a lot more sympathetic - though still witchy - in this series. I just hope she sees the error of her ways if her little one is about to come into the world...
