Chapter 5-- You Can't Handle the Truth

"Run the test again,' Simon yelled at his helpless looking friend, Dr. Alex Channing.

"I did before I came out here Simon, I ran the test three times for your benefit," he sat back in his chair. "I wish it was better news, but the test results, Simon, they're definitive."

"I can't go home and tell my wife I'm sterile there's no way in hell," he stood up. "Not after all the tears and the heartache and the planning! She's planned the names Alex, I can't just dash her dreams like that." Simon collapsed back into the chair and sighed. He sat there silent and lost in thought for a second. Alex busied himself by shuffling some papers.

"I need to know how this happened," Simon said suddenly.

"It could have been a number of things, a genetic anomaly, a viral infection," he said.

"I want you to request my medical records," Simon demanded and Alex shook his head.

oh no! don't kill jayne!

i love jayne's automatic, gun-grabbing reaction at the sound of the scream. it's hilarious.

and simon playing dead to get at his own medical records. something tells me he's stirring up more trouble than need be. (although if he weren't, where would the story really go?)

thanks for writing from your hotel room. i'm familiar with the "must write firefly" diseases. i hope my comments are like a drug that keep you writing more and more and more.

Oh...this does not bode well at all. River's visions and Simon's decision to confront his parents? Really leaves a Browncoat dreading the next part...

Still...this was some excellent work here, JJ! I definitely could see Simon charging off to do something inherently stupid under the impression it will have an outcome that will make Kaylee happy. He's a boob and well all know it;)

Great, so not only do we have to worry about Simon taking things to extremes, but about Jayne as well? Ai ya! This is just great though ... terrific way to ratchet up the angst.
