Summary: Post BDM. Rayne. Serenity's deadliest begin to connect after a long stint in the Black.

Chapter 3- Easier Said Than Done

Jayne and River spent the next three days tip toeing around each other. Avoiding each other like the Gorram plague. River was hurt that Jayne was ignoring her, Jayne was pissed he couldn't get River out of his mind. Mal was growing suspicious of them and Inara was trying to divert his attention elsewhere, because she knew that Jayne and River need time to truly understand what was going on between them before Mal or Simon got involved.

Simon had his hands full with Zoe who was having a lot of false labor pains and Kaylee was constantly trying to fix Serenity who was working on more spare parts than usual since this was actually the longest time she spent in the black without actually touching down planetside. It was just a stroke of luck that she found out about River and Jayne.

Kaylee had been working hard to find something on the ship that she could convert to a working part of Serenity's engine. She had found the perfect metal shape she needed in a box of scrap metal underneath the cargo bay stairs. She was quietly putting together the parts under the steps when she heard Jayne rushing down the stairs with River hot on his heels.

"I wish to talk to you, Neanderthal," River said and Jayne ignored her.

"I ain't got nothing to say," Jayne went to his weight bench.

"You have been ignoring me for three days!" River complained and Jayne hunched his shoulders.

"What's there to say?" he asked and River took off her boot and threw it at him. It hit him in the shoulder. Kaylee had to bite her lip to keep from laughing.
