Chapter 2- The Repercussions

The repercussions of what they did, hadn't hit either of them until supper. When they were around the others. Simon was extra cordial to Jayne, which made him feel really uncomfortable considering had had just sexed River. He couldn't even look at River because he kept having flashes about the way she looked while he made love to her. She was amazing. Much better than he could ever imagine. They caught each others eyes and then looked away.

"How are you feeling, River?" Mal asked and River looked startled for a second.

"I am within the correct parameters," she answered and then she looked at Jayne and blushed which made him shift uncomfortably.

"You were acting a little bit off earlier," Mal said.

"Mei, mei, maybe after we eat I can check you out," Simon said.

"No, need Doc, your sister was just bored," Jayne said, more worried that if Simon checked her out that he'd find the hickeys he had placed all over her body.

"And how would you know what's the matter with River, Oh ye great pillar of wisdom?" Mal asked and Jayne gave him his coldest smirk.

"I asked her, she told me she was bored, we played cards, the end," Jayne said and Mal sat back in his chair.

"Well I hope she ain't take all your money like she did me," Kaylee joked to break the tension coming from the two oldest males.

"I am proficient at card playing," River hunched her shoulders.

"You're proficient at being a reader," Kaylee shot back with a smile.

"I do not cheat," River stuck out her tongue and Jayne grinned.

"That's what you get for playing cards with a bona fide reader. There's always suspicion ," Zoe laughed and then tensed up. " The baby's been real active the last few
