Thins be looking up in my hill 'verse not been up to much but drinking and watching the sun rise really. Have a River love poem on the way when I say love poem its more fluff than anything else. I am still working out my plot points for my fanfic and have to run everything by my beta before I post anything. Hopefully I'll get the finger out and start posting again real soon. Keep flyin'

So, Bo's been captured and Jayne seems to have met a worthy opponent. The ships in trouble and no one knows what Skoal really wants.:knife: "Didn't he originally want the bounty on Mal's head? Or was it just a ploy to find Bo?":banghead: Mal now knows that Bo isn't as he used to be, How will he take that? What's Jayne's fate while the others are on the run? Hang on, cause this ride's just started, and it's liable to turn in ways you never thought possible.

A very interesting Cat.... I am so glad you all are enjoying this story. It has gone down paths I didn't think it would, but as most who write know, they tend to evolve all by themselves from the idea you thought when you started to the one sitting before you now. Such is the life of a creative genius, or at least a relatively smart one. LOL  Anyway, thanks a bunch for you all being my readers, my advisors, but most of all, thanks for being my friends. Enjoy the ride!!!

Well folks, its been just over a year since my last entry and all I can say is holy freakin' gorram bloody hell. The first six month since May 31st, 2007 had some good times but it was mostly hell. A few friends short since then but recovery seems better than anticipated. The last six months have been spectacular. It has passed in a very short time with minimal stress and bullshit compared to last year. Yeah, there is still a ton of stuff I shouldn't have to deal with. But having someone around to listen and help me better understand my part is a gift from the gods. Just thought I'd update this thing since its been a while.

Yeah, be afraid. Actually, be very afraid. I found a bud on-line who writes like me. (Y'know, puns, explosions, moments of dubious sanity...but with actual plot and decent characterization.) And so it seemed like a good idea when invited, to write something together. And now we've nearly finished it. Mwahhahah...(ours is an evil laugh, in not-quite perfect harmony.) It will be interesting to see if folks can spot the joins. Those who don't run away screaming when the thing lurches onto the horizon, anyhow. Just think. You thought I was odd. And you thought Wytchcroft was odd. Imagine what we can produce when we work together. (We still haven't decided which one is Pinky and which one is the Brain, but, meh...) So...coming soon to a BSR near you...a WytchAnJl production.* *Please enjoy this fic responsibly. Contains violence, bad language, rambling interludes of existential angst, a crazy old coot with a secret, plastic dinosaurs, medicinal drug use and Jayne. Still, it stops us playing in the traffic, and it keeps us away from knives. Except for research purposes...

These are the last shots that I'll be posting, as someone here, in conversation yesterday, called them mediocre. I don't want to clog up the flylog index with crap. (They have a point as not even those I've known on site for the last 3 or so years acknowledge these logs.) Maybe folk have been too kind to say anything to me. I'm admitting now that there's no point in kidding myself.. I'll try harder to write more fun and engaging entries in future. SYMBIOTIC BEAUTY.

Firstly can I make an excuse for why the next part of the fic hasn't gone up-my home computer has died-I haven't lost the fic, just can't get onto the net at home. I'm at uni right now. So sorry if you were waiting for it, might be a couple more days. Also, coming up I'll be posting character profiles about some of my OC's, including Dash, JJ Frye, Blake Taylor and more. Yes this is a blog post about coming blog posts. How ironically post-modern, especially now that I posted out that its post modern.:crap: Anyway, take the time to read Angellemarcs's fic, some great stuff going on over there. And now I must leave you. A philosophy essay beckons. Stormwind

What has happened to Bo?! They changed him, are they trying to make another Cat? Odd seing as how Bo has more qualities that resemble dogs. Maybe this phase two thing in their program is what they intend Bo for. Or did they do this to him in the initial and just bring it out now? Confused? Don't worry, things will get clearer as we delve deeper into my mind. I'm watching saving private ryan at the moment, (just past the part where Nathan Fillion comes in, hehheh fun little trivia fact, He's the other James Ryan.):blast: So whenever y'all wanna stop and get off, let me know, "'cause I will pull this ship over right now if you want to drive!"- Alan to Nathan in Serenity outtake. Enjoy the ride. :smokin::bash:(I like the bash one, pay it no mind)

Thursday, 05 June 2008 09:22:13
So, new chapter's up, fun for all I know. It's especially gorey. Now here in about eight hours I'm going to let a guy with blue... gloves... cause me considerable pain.... GORRAM IT!!! I'VE BEEN DUPED!!! They aren't gonna get me that easy. :finger: Keep me in mind my crewmates as I get teeth pulled from their sockets, wrenched from my jaw, taken out in a bloody mess, and then get some awesome medicine afterwords that will make it all better. Hehheh. :smokin: Enjoy the flight, and remember you need an escort to go in the cargo area. :bash: Yours truly, -A1C Cheek

Hi all! Chapter 8 of Trials and Redemptions is up now... hope everyone likes it! As always, I very much appreciate any constructive criticism or comments. A significant portion of this chapter deviated from my original plan. The main action that occurs was something I hadn't initially scheduled until around Chapter 10, but when I thought about what Joss would likely have done, it occurred to me that the action at the estate really isn't plot-relevant, and I hate writing unnecessary fluff that has no other purpose. That said, this chapter is mostly an introduction on this particular part of the plot, it won't be moving along that quickly, as there are far more important plot elements that need to get going first. These will start in Chapter 9 and probably take up most of that chapter, and all of Chapters 11 through 15. We'll see more of this chapter's developments in Chapter 10, and then it will take a back seat for the most part until we reach Chapter 16.

Well, my riders, as those have read my next chapter, 'Ski has left Cat in a very odd place. She's about to go up against her male counterpart, Falcon :fork: and the help of a part Reaver might just come in handy.:blast: Will he come to his senses? :banghead: Will he return to help Serenity and his maybe now ex wife with the on coming threat? Or will he continue on his way never to be heard from again? :crap: Find out tomorrow (June 6th, my June 6th)...... Enjoy the ride as I thank the riders....

Sorry to say this and it has been said before but could we limit BSR postings to one per person per day or even every two days? I've been guilty of multiple postings myself in the past but I was soon slapped on the hand and told to be fair to everyone and give them a chance to have their stuff read or looked at. The home page has limited space for announcing new stuff or continuing stuff and the more that is posted the faster the other stuff moves off. I know we all get excited when we finish something and want everyone to see it or read it as soon as possible, but let's be fair to everyone and space out our postings. Thanks and don't bite me too hard for pointing this out. Stay shiny!

Well it been awhile since I last bloged but alot has gone on. We finially finished with the 12 hrs shifts at work, I am back to my normal shift. There are a lot of troops here training, over 3000 so far. The weather has turned off HOT, over 90 some days with high humidity lots of heat casualties. Nothing major so far. Today we answered a fire call at a building, the gate to the building was half open and I got out to open it. The truck driver drove off and left me at the gate, I had to run to the build in full turn-out gear in this heat. I am glad it was a flase alarm but it took us over thirdy minutes to find the alarm box and shut it off (old building). I was soaked with sweat but that is how it is here and I enjoy it.

I saw two episodes of Firefly when it was still on the Fox network: The Train Job (which served as its pilot, even though it wasn't the pilot) and Shindig. I didn't really understand the series then, I'll admit. It wasn't until a young woman taking a tour through the building called me "Kaylee" that I remembered the show at all. "Kaylee?" I said. "Like the mechanic on TV?" She squealed, and hugged me. "Yes! I'm so happy that somebody else knows who she is! I've got some DVDs to show you!" Was it the red hair? The grease smudged on my face and overalls? Or the fact that I was underneath a console, installing new switches? I may never know. I never saw her again after that day. But true to her word, she sent me the whole dang series, and my love affair with the show began. So yes, the story in "This Is Not A Fanfic" is real. Very very few details had to be changed; mostly names. The station is a historical landmark now; it was literally falling apart at the seams when Boss bought it and started running it -- which was a strange thing to do; most people with the money to buy things like radio stations (or spaceships) can't be bothered to actually run them, and hire underlings to do their dirty work.

Well, my riders and fellow authors of all things 'Firefly' ...I am taking the weekend to enjoy the finer things in life, such as the ever mounting piles of books I really need to read. I left you all on a happy note though so no complaining. Besides, for the week, I think I averaged a chapter and a half a day.....my wrists are tired.. :crap: I promise new stuff on Monday and I will still be in to comment on all your wonderful work. Other than that, I got a book calling.

Saw the man come over the lip of the dune skree – just a blurred figure on a mule, heat wavered with the sun low behind. Pretty soon though we’re close – as he comes in fast and I’m moving out to greet him. Man about my age, calm eyed – bets on that I’m looking suspicious. “Well,” I never can stop myself, “another Shepherd then.” Man takes that placid enough, just asks, “Does that upset you?” I twirl my broom some then give the fella another up and down. “I dunno – you look like you mighta earned them clothes at least.” Almost a smile from the man, something in the eyes too. “That’s – I’ve never heard anyone else put it that way,” looking thoughtful now, “but I’ve wondered about that myself.” Sun’s getting in my eyes now so I point off yonder through the gate. “Abbey’s that way, such as it is. More a nursery – but don’t mind me.” Nor does he – fella just presses easy on the pedal of the mule and slips through the gate setting the scanners twitching – and gone. ............. rough piece of something coming soon...

Y'all know Little Jerry and the Monotones, from Sesame street: " We're mad, very angry. Very, very angry. Real mad, very angry, very, very angry . " You can exit gracefully now, or hang around-- this is gonna be a self-indulgent venting type post. I'm continuing to deal with my high blood pressure-- taking the pills and eating better, but back-sliding some on diet and exercise. I actually went and got the blood test my Doctor wanted. They didn't hurt me, I didn't pass out. She wanted me to be evaluated by a cardiac specialist- I've got what she labeled " atypical chest pain." So she referred me to this Vietnamese heart specialist that's a colleague of hers. We discussed it. There are 2 kinds of cardiac stress test, one where they look at you on a flouroscope while you're on a treadmill, and another kind where they inject you with something first. The second one gives better results, but the first might be satisfactory, given my phobia about needles. Up to me and the heart guy to decide. I went. I was sitting there in his waiting room, full of Vietnamese patients, when his semi- ESL Mexican office girl called me back to the office window to make the co-payment. I whipped out the checkbook to write a check , and she says to me, " We don' take checks." So I tore up all the paperwork, and stomped out. The man is a licensed physician, a professional, a medical corporation, a business, a businessman. I was referred to him by a respected colleague, and they both confirmed that he participated in my Insurance program. Either his office staff is too incompetent or lazy to process a personal check; or, he thinks I'm gonna write him a bad check for my $ 30 co-payment; or, my insurance company is defrauding me, and the co-payment is all he's gonna get; or else he's cheating somebody, the IRS, MediCare, MediCal, whoever, and he is is skimming the cash and doesn't want to leave a paper trail. Rather than think any negative about HIM, I accept that he thinks I'm gonna stiff him. Which insults ME- I don't write Hot checks to nobody, never. There's a sign in my regular doctor's office about patient's' rights: Number 1 is to be treated with dignity and respect. That's respectful, ain't it? " We think yer gonna stiff us, you deadbeat. " And dignified, too-- I gotta turn out my empty wallet in public and say," I ain't got no cash.", because I never carry more than 10 bucks. Betcha he pays his mortgage payments with checks, and his office payroll, and his light bill. But I can't. SO I called my Doctor's office, briefly explained, said, " I ain't goin' back there , ever." Put it outta my mind, moved on-- The guy's a dead letter, never gonna concern me again. Shoulda made this post then, but didn't. That was a month ago, and I pushed the anger down and away from sight. MY walking fell off- I skipped several days in a row, then a full week. Diet went bad. I'm eating coffee shop breakfasts, Mexican food, cheeseburgers, chicken fried steak, even Italian food. Skipped my medication , especially on weekneds. Stopped monitoring my BP- maybe twice a day, down from every 4 hours. Got a letter from my doctor the other day- had the results of my blood test, and a reminder of my next appointment, and an apology for the heart guy. Which is funny-- her office staff tried to do the same thing to me, and I let them get away with it. Maybe because they asked for it after I'd seen her, and because I had almost enough cash on me to cover it that day. But inside, I'm still mad at her office guy. Her letter also included an order to the lab for another blood test, for something different. The first results showed bad colesteral high, good cholesteral normal, nitrogen OK, but anemia and an abnormality in blood sugar, so maybe I'm pre diabetic I was gonna go this morning , but my wife couldn't wake up in time, and I wasn't gonna go by myself- - my needle phobia is *B*A*D*, never know when I'm gonna pas

Okay, now I feel incredibly guilty! Burton Wyatt (Old Habits - Part IX) was meant to be a character with a single purpose, to make Mal so angry, the kind of anger he displayed in Serenity, after Book was killed. The kind when he spoke to Inara and said that, if he went to war, he guaranteed she’d see something new. Mal has to have that anger for the rest of this story (and the BIG story) to unfold the way it does. Then I wrote Wyatt, and he managed to take on a life of his own. Maybe because he was so easy to write, and because Kaylee and River and all the others liked the Road Runner and her crew, we did too. They trusted him, so we did. We don’t even see the others - Yuki and Terry and Brogan and the rest. We don’t need to. They had a life before this tale, because Serenity’s family knew it. Yuki cooks noodle stew, Brogan is a medic, Terry is like Jayne - because we can see it through their eyes. And I killed them off. All of them. One fell swoop, one burst of light and Road Runner is no more. In a way, I’m proud of the reactions I’ve got from my readers. It’s what I was aiming at. You had to like Wyatt, so that what came next was a shock. Mal and Zoe et al are shocked, and you have to be too. I did my job. But I still feel guilty about it. I liked Wyatt. If I’d known how I was going to feel, maybe I would have made him less of a person, but then that’s the point. He might only be words on a screen, but in a single chapter (which had to be virtually entirely getting to know Wyatt, as there wasn’t going to be a second chance) I brought him to life. Is this how Joss Whedon felt when he wrote Wash, knowing that he was going to kill him off at some point? Maybe, maybe not. All I know is, I feel closer to that man than I have ever done before. :hanged:

My reader are some of the best writers I know. :smokin: catch you all on Serenity! Slight side note 'cuz I'm a bit of a ditz. We are on chapter 39, fixing to be forty. I miss numbered. OK, so I admit it, I'm blond. But we live in the 21 century and it's all about choices. Since leaving school, my hair has been every colour I could lay my hands on; except black and blue. For ever so long I wanted to dye my hair blue, but my hairdresser told me it wasn't worth it. It washes out too quickly, a waste of money. So Friday on my way home from work, I decided to buy some colour and change who I am. The box said Intense blue-black, very seductively, and I was seduced. Two birds with one stone! Yippee! I got home, and prepared myself for action. 30 minutes later, bam! Different me, and that night, no-one recognised me. It was great! Not me, but undercover-me! However, now that I have washed it again, I noticed that my hands were blue in the shower. Made me laugh! It washes off though, unlike the mark on my cheek where I touched my face while I was colouring it...

I'm working on the next chapter. Might see a little bit of other character's you know here. Not just from the show but from other story's as well.:wink: So, as to Bo, I'm just writing as I feel, probably spun off a bit further than some of you will appreciate, leaving our beloved crew to other, more talented writers. See some of us like interconnecting stories and if Bo stayed with the crew it just wouldn't work for other's so, Bo's doing his own thing, but be sure that Mal and the others will show up at some point, as big brother's often do.:smokin: Hope y'all enjoy the ride. But you gotta ask yourself... "What in the spincter of hell is he playin at?!" -A1C Browncoat

I just read a blog entry I didn't like. Not new, I've read lots of thing I don't like, usually accidentally. But normally, I don't feel the need to comment on it. I think there is a lot of crap in fan fiction. More than in original fiction. You know the stuff folks get paid to write? We (fan fic writer's) don't get paid to write this stuff, nor would we expect to (unless you're completely off your nut). So, in the case of Firefly, Joss Whedon (or any of the other lovely writers of the show) is not standing over our shoulders going 'That's OOC. That would never happen.' And since it's fan fic, it's whatever the bloody hell we want it to be. I think everyone should label their fic thoroughly (Though I am guilty of gross negligence in that regard) so that one may know that a story is AU or OOC or PWP or anything else. My point being, I guess, that everything we write, though based on 'canon', is, or could potentially be considered, OOC. We can watch the series and the movie and try to surmise how, under certain circumstances, a particular character may react, but it's just our best guess. It's fiction. Worse, it's fan fiction. Don't get me wrong... Please, I love fan fic. I love it. When it's good, when it's alright, even when it's bad sometimes, because then you can sit smugly and say to yourself, 'I'd never do that shit.' More rambling... When writing a fic, you can sit there and go, 'Mal would do this, Zoe would do this', but you don't know, it's just what you would like to happen. To satisfy your muse or whatever you call your drive to write about a bunch of fictional characters from a cancelled TV show. I know I sound negative about fan fic and maybe even Firefly, but my irritability is more at people who write fan fic and then complain about how bad other fan fic is, the earlier mentioned OOC, AU or PWP. What if you turned the TV on tomorrow and Joss had the show up and running and he turned everything on it's ear? What if he went to a con and said that he planned an elaborate arc where Mal becomes a Reaver and kills everybody, or Simon realizes he's gay and wants Jayne, or that he's re-releasing the movie and not killing Wash or Book (yay, btw, to that thought). More point, one can not look at a fic one doesn't like and say, 'That would never happen in canon'. Because, of course, it wouldn't. Nothing I write would have happened, it's what goes on in my head, not Joss Whedon's (and the other lovely writers). You can call someone's fic poorly written, go on about grammar and punctuation, plot holes, etc, etc, etc. But at the end of the day, slash and PWP and AU and OOC will exist, some of them interesting stories, if one is not too wrapped up in 'canon' to enjoy a good tale. There is gross putrescence. There always will be. We just don't have to read it. There's my half dollar. Hope I've offended somebody, otherwise this whole thing wasn't worth it. Thinking about my next blog entry: plagarism. That one's always funny to me, especially in reference to fan fic. Toodles. Joly

Wow. Where the hell have I been? I look back on the last few months and I can't figure out why I haven't poked around in here for so long. I must not neglect my browncoat bretheren. Anyway, update. I'm going to CONvergence in less than a month and I should have some nifty pics of my outfit by the end of the week. And no BDHs (sad) but there are some panels that have a browncoaty appeal. Such as "3:10 to Serenity Valley" (about scifi westerns), "Renaissance of Buffy & Angel", "Previously... in the Whedon-verse", and a prop building panel with Christian Colquhoun a propbuilder and physical effects artist who worked on Firefly (among other things).

So I've been walking the world a spell, giving my ideas a chance to freshen up, (y'know, get some clean duds, mebbe some mouthwash) and basically meandering into someone else's version of the 'verse a while. Funny thing is, I look over the writing, and I mostly know which ideas are mine, which are not, but somewhere in the middle, some peculiar alchemy has worked itself, and we have a strange chimerical beast which is truly its own being. (That being said, the really good, funny Wash stuff is nothing to do with me. That's Wytchcroft. Most of the mad, bad poetical meta-bollocks is mine, though.) However, the end is in sight. And then, I'm hopefully returning to my long delayed Zen II fic - hope being the operative word ( don't scare the muse!) - refreshed and ready to perpetrate some more AnJlverse weirdness. Because this trip inside someone else's head has been a blast. It's been interesting to match my conception of the characters to someone else's, to work with a differently realised back story for some of them. I think both of us have benefitted (if only because we can burble at length without anyone yawning or giving us tired looks...) It inspires, to feel the ideas take hold, and to throw them back and forth and see what results. I...We, hope you like it. Or at least don't hate it with a passion. Still, if you do hate it - we did put a label on it, so you can't say you weren't warned.

Ok, so I've hit a bit of a snag in production at the moment. I'm having a, sort of, Mal problem. Mal: "Well they tell you: never hit a man with a closed fist. But it is, on occasion, hilarious." Yeah, so now I'm out one pinky knuckle, cause what they don't tell you is that if your hand meets the guys cheekbone then you're out a knuckle. So just a small snag, but I'll get something up soon. I promise.

Lotsa people are 'purists' when it comes to fan fiction. I get it. But, to me, the whole point of fan fic is to take those characters and mold and manipulate and nudge and coerce and cajole...I'm digressing, the way the particular fan fic writer wants. You're free to play with the whole universe: What if: Mal never joined the Browncoats? Inara never became a companion, or became a companion of a different sort? What if Simon was too busy to pay attention to his sister's coded messages, if he read them at all? What if Zoe died in the war? What if Jubal Early in 'Objects in Space' actually did rape Kaylee? What if Badger was actually a good guy? I'm saying it would make them completely different people, who would behave in a way that may or may not even resemble 'canon'. The way the chracters would relate to each other would be different. Stories like that, I would find interesting, not 'Mal is a womanizing bastard for no apparent reason'. I like a reason, explained in the story as to why the character is different than the canon portrayal. I completely respect the opinion of those who want to see canon portrayal of characters, but I request the same respect in return for those who want to see the characters behave in new and different ways, which end up being considered OOC and AU. Fact is, if you don't like it, don't read it. I haven't mentioned PWP yet, because I'm not entirely sure what to say. I like smut. I like my favorite characters engaged in acts I am not likely see outside of hard core porn. Why? Distressingly poor sex life? Dreams of star- f**king? The fact that it might be unbearably hot? I'm going with all of the above. But those fics are like a nibble between meals, I still want the whole meal (plot, story, interaction, character development, linear movement). Another half dollar. Thanks.

Been doing a lot of belly botton watching and pondering my place in the universe of late.Thinks this is the first time I've actually been away from here since I became dun ,not sure if its me or here thats changed but its a mute question at the mo.Sometimes I wish I hadn't been introduced into the verse,at the best and worst of times Im very self reliant .What is it about that show that touched me so because its goes more than skin deep?Anyhow(anyone who knows me should have expected thaT)I was in Dublin airport last week,The masses of people milling around, made me ponder ,wasnt for me anymore I much prefer open fields and space. That said tis good too be back.

Yup, he was going too fast at 10:30 at night and smacked it in my mom's truck! I always knew he wasn't prepared to drive. Well, I've just heard that he's physically O.K., he just seems to have been going too fast in the middle of the night, and he might have taken a turn too fast and seriously dented the truck. More as it developes.

I want it! But it wouldn't work on my :censored: DVD player if I bought it now. Does anyone know when its coming out in Region 2??
Saturday, 14 June 2008 17:19:27
The summer weather is far too good to ignore any photo opportunities. I've taken it upon myself to really push the envelope on my photography skills. Photography is something that I love - to the point where I actually hate it sometimes. Sometimes, I forget what the driving force is. Why am I really taking these pics? What am I trying to say with this shot? It's easy to become complacent, once you get into a monotonous pattern. The quality slips, and so does the muse. So, I'm now taking considerable care with the quality, experimenting further with the type of shots that I can take, and ULTIMATELY mixing up the subject matter. Here are a few of my latest shots. RELAXATION.

Hi there, I've officially completed my first week of work. I was in training all last week and of the six tests I had to do I only got one question wrong. Yay me for being able to absorb large amounts of knowledge really quickly. I'm not on the phones yet but I will be soon. Now for the fun. It was the Regatta in Durham yesterday so me, John and Andrew went. It wasn't as fun as last year as it kept raining so we hid in the beer tent to stay dry. Then we met up with my friend James and went to the Chinese. Then we went to the Angel and since the smoking ban came into force; The Angel has really improved. The toilets aren't filthy anymore and it doesn't reek of smoke. Now for the sad news. I just found out that a girl I went to school with is dying of cancer. Jennifer -x-

Monday, 16 June 2008 06:16:16
Well it has been a while since I last wrote anything. But today being Father's Day, I thought I would . First of all my Father is in the hospital, he had surgery to remove some cancer. He is doing fine, the doctor said that he got all of it. I hope. Now my son, who is in the Air Force academy is in the United Arab Emirates for his operation mission. He called me today, which was great. I do miss him. This is all I have for today, I hope that all Fathers had a great day.
Monday, 16 June 2008 15:20:42
Forgive me for bragging, but this is so totally blog worthy. Not only did my wife buy me a copy of "Those Left Behind" for Father's Day, but she got me a Playstation 3. Doesn't get any more awesome than that.

Well, rain is so much fun here in Oklahoma, almost as much fun as the occassional tornado. :pissed: Nope, not had one hit here, but it has rained buckets. Thankfully, no really bad flooding  (heart goes out to anyone with that terrible fortune):crap: But I am so ready for at least a little sun, could stand without the heat. :fork: Anyway, enough of my rant.:banghead: Hope all of you are enjoying Cat's adventures and we will see you in the next installment or when the animals come two by two (hope their hands aren't blue)..... Thanks for riding.

So - remember last entry when I said I'd be speakin' atcha from a big-ass movie screen if you were going to the Boston CSTS event? Well, there's news to that effect. If I remember correctly what the director of our fan film told me, she and one of the Aussie Browncoats (who have produced their own fan film with a very special guest appearance by Big Nate himself) compared notes, put their heads together and then put the films together. The blindin' shiny part is that the Aussie Browncoats intended to distribute their film to CSTS screenings all around the world, and they're

C'mon, guys, we're putting a lot of time and effort into our fic, and no-one much is reviewing. (Big shout out to Angellemarcs, StinkingRose and KimBer, who have!) There's good stuff in there. A crazy old coot, strange and spooksome happenings in deep space, Wash and his dinosaurs. Puns, guns and alliosaurs. I think the idea is that we are trying to say something deep about the human condition, the nature of being etc. (Granted, I'll be happy if I can make someone snarf tea out their nose again, but then I'm the one wanted to call it 'Stairway to Haven'...) Seriously, feedback is needed.

Think I'd be happier about it- all the toil, tears, blood, pain, and loss of a dozen or so years in the New York State school system- fior what, again? A shiny new Diploma that says I earned it. Goody goody. Makes so much sense now- afterall, what other else point was there other then to benefit a society that doesn't give two shits about you? Good to know. Don't make a difference, right here, right now, wether or no I decide to make something of myself or no- because it just doesn't matter. Meh. We[/ii] just don't matter- whatever you do in life shall, eventually be forgotten- like footprints on the beach, eventually the waves will wash it all away. ... And now I feel like such a pansy- I feel bad, so I blog, of all things? Coulda punched a wall a few dozen times, felt better as well. Meh. I can be such a hypocrite. -Danny

Hi all! Chapter 9 of Trials and Redemptions is up now... hope everyone likes it! As always, I very much appreciate any constructive criticism or comments. Wow that was a really long chapter! It was originally even longer, but I cut out the actual shopping. Don't worry, you'll find out what Jayne and Inara purchased... eventually. Anyways, a lot had to happen here, or plot elements in the next few chapters would be very confusing / completely non-understandable. Before anyone complains, I do realize that this chapter appears to be very fluffy up until the very last section, and not at all plot-oriented. However, there are a number of threads running through it that will be extremely important later, so bear with me please! I hope to have Chapter 10 up on Friday or Saturday. It's actually almost done, but there is one very important scene I am completely lost on at the moment. So cross your fingers or whatever superstitious thing you do for good luck, and hopefully I'll have it up before the end of the weekend! :-)

So I've been meaning to blog for like a month now but you know how times get by the end of the school year...insanely busy! So I was helping out my city's marathon run a month ago by helping to hand out water and gaterade. All of the volunteers where given plastic/synthetic gloves to wear and mine were...BLUE!!! Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the exact blue of those two horrific special agents from the Blue Sun Corp. Needless to say,all I could do was mutter, 'two by two hands of blue', steadily increasing in volume until my dad was almost in tears from laughing so hard. *He is also a Firefly fan* Just thought I'd share my story. Hermione P.S. I totally took an extra pair of gloves to bring home with me...I put them in my visual companion book.

Here's a little song I wrote, and I think that Mal would appreciate it. Broken I'm walkin' up a mountain, And I don't know when it ends. The valley down below us here, It was much more peaceful, But just too quiet. The silence there, was killing me, destroying me, And I don't know how or why! Yeah! CHORUS: The broken glass you stand upon, Will never fall away. (echo: It never falls away!) The shattered fragments of my spirit, I'm going insane! Where is my mind? A wreckage washed upon the shoreline, It'll never sail again. Mine eyes have seen too much and now, My brain is just too loaded down, Will I survive? I fall so fast, Never moving, Never breathing, Trapped inside myself! Why?! CHORUS Who has my soul? (BRIDGE) When will all this suffering, Be drawn unto its end? My struggle will continue but, Will I get better or descend? (CHORUS x2) (CHORUS FADE-OUT)

Had to comment on an author's book the other day and she asked me about heroes. Well, being a browncoat that I am and also a die hard Dresden watcher and reader I had this to say... "Harry Dresden and Malcolm Reynolds(Firefly and Serenity) are both my choice for heroes in the fictional realm." Can't stop the signal....it will bite you in the end. LOL

Thanks to all of you who have read and commented on OLD HABITS - I hope you enjoyed it! And I have to ask for your indulgence ... The next tale is the start of the big story, and I want to get it right, so there may be a short delay before I start uploading. I have so many possible ways it might go rolling around my head, and I have to make a decision soon as to which one to take, so please bear with me. Also, RealLife is intruding again, which makes things awkward, but I will be writing every day, even if I can't update at the same rate. There's also an idea I've been playing with of a tale set during THOSE LEFT BEHIND, just before Inara leaves, but that may or may not come to anything. Better watch this space for that one. But, in the meantime, to whet your appetite, keep an eye out for the start of the big arc, entitled VOLCANO'S EDGE ...

I know i haven't been on in a while, but i would like to say that i've been too busy doing something important but that would be a total lie. However, i have been obsessing over assorted other things and i only have so much time. Let's see; in the past few months there's been Harry Potter, Uglies Trilogy, the Clique, assorted other things and most recently, the Twilight Saga. This morning i watched Serenity and thought it might be time to catch up with the good old firefly world.

As you all my know ,I work as a firefighter for the state of Arkansas. My department has three shifts, the first shift is made of newer people who are trying to get their feet on the ground. Most of the first shift is made up of good people. The second shift, which I am on, is mainly veterans(most of us have over six years with the department), we work together very well and know what to do. Now the third shift, has many new people on it. Some of those new people believe that they know better than the vets how things are done. These people are know it alls( and that is being nice) and this has caused a very bad rift between the shifts. The vets have tried to help them but their reaction is as if we have kicked their puppy.(Nice again) I only hope that the third shift wises up and realizes that the vets are here to help them, not put them down.

Wycthcroft recently requested that I post a little about my take on the firefly 'verse post Serenity as related to my Fan fic. Since this is my first fic I'm still figuring out how the characters "Voices" work. I'm having the most trouble with Inara and Simon. I think I do better with River, Mal, Jayne while my Kaylee is improving. I'm writing my Fic from my original characters Allan's point of view since it let's me "Project" myself into Allan and have him react to the 'verse as the outsider he is. Anyway, this is how I see the original characters in my take on the 'verse. Mal: Mal has mellowed quite a bit after the death's of Wash and Book. Inara and him have finally gotten together and she has helped Mal heal and become the Man he should have been if Serenity Valley hadn't happened. Zoe: Zoe while healing still from Wash's death, the crew have helped her heal. She now treats River like a younger sister and now with Allan appearing on the scene, she feels that maybe she can find love again. Inara:Inara has now retired from the Guild and has decided to remain on Serenity. After some more dancing about She and Mal Finally confessed their love for one another. They still fight but the making up later is worth it  Kaylee: Kaylee is hopelessly in love with Simon and her other love in life, Serenity. She's hoping Simon will pop the question sometime but she's patient. She fully considers River her sister in all but name. Simon: Still the big overprotective brother, Kaylee is helping Simon let river live for herself more. Jayne: Jayne has changed a lot in the two years since Miranda. He considers himself the crews protector and not the merc he was before. He's found friends and family on the ship and he protects his family. He and River started out with a mutual respect turning to a friendship/partnership after Miranda and now it looks like it may go further (Rayne) River: Now twenty years old and maturing into a young woman and not the scared/crazy little girl she was. She has stepped into her role as Serenity's pilot with enthusiasm. She is mostly sane now. being able to control her abilities much better. She suddenly finds herself attracted to Jayne but she's not sure weather it's stemming from her friendship with him or just because he's the only available male on the ship. Alliance: the Alliance is still about. the operative was able to kill the Tam's warrants. Parliament is trying to sweep Miranda under the rug but is having trouble with that. Internal political unrest has moved troops and ships to the core, leaving the rim a little more open than it was. While there is still a presence, it's not as strong as it once was. Unfortunately it's allowed an increase in slavery and piracy in space since there's fewer "cops" around on the rim and border planets. Blue Sun: Blue sun still wants their greatest success back in the form of River Tam. The still hold great political influence over the Alliance. The "verse itself: I envisioned the firefly verse itself as a trinary star system about 20 light years from earth. the core planets are around the primary blue star with Persephone and Boros as border planets to the rim. the rim planets and moons circle the two smaller outlying stars. Thats all I've figured out for the moment. Serenity: I use the movie version of the ship as the basis of my fiction. I've heard argument's that there are no showers on Serenity. Well I have a set of Quantum Mechanics Serenity Blueprints that show two showers, one in the dorm and one along the crew bunks corridor. Since the prints are authorized by Universal I myself consider them cannon. The reason Inara was taking a sponge bath in the pilot episode was that there isn't a shower on her shuttle, just a small lavatory. Well thats it for the moment.. hoe this helps explain where my fic is coming from Brian

I'd like to apologise to those who showed up to the Raleigh CSTS tonight (Monday). Maer and I kept whispering and giggling throughout the entire movie. :fork: We have decided to be roomies when we die and go to the Special Hell. During the scene where Mal was talking to Inara via wave, and he says that he didn't look through her trunk, I was the one who responded with a deadpan "Sure." :disappointed: So, hate me if you will! I'm at your mercy!! Btw, I'm surprised more of you didn't join in on the Mal's Shootout game. It was fun! :blast:

So I know I haven't been around the 'verse as of late but my life has been incredibly insane and sad to say my time for FF got cut a bit... I'm mainly posting this to gush about how WONDERFUL a time I had the previous two nights at Raleigh's CSTS event! This was my first time going and I'm hoping I'm close enough next year to be able to come again but I had a blast! I got to meet so many shiny Raleigh browncoats and put some faces with the names I've talked with on here. I'm hoping we raised a ton of money (I know I sold a bunch of raffle tickets!) and just wanted to thank everyone who volunteered with me and just came out and made it such a shiny event! Oh and a BIG thanks to Flame who - well pretty much is the shiniest person ever because she organized the whole Big Damn Event! There was a really special moment for me that happened last night and just really made me smile. I had been selling tickets for both nights' raffles and there was this one woman I met the first night and her boyfriend told me that she was new to the 'verse. Well I saw her again the second night and we talked a bit and at the end of the night she asked if she could give me a hug. Of course I said yes and she said to me 'thank you for making this so special for me'... I was really really touched! Anyways I'm out for now - I leave for my other favorite 'verse tomorrow (Disney World) and I've not packed at all... go figure Hope everyone is having a shiny summer! Catch ya round the 'verse :)

I need to stress about my night. Basically, I spent most of it feeling like :crap: A High School Prom (I know I'm in England, not America so I'm 2 years younger - but still!!) is supposed to be FUN. Well, it was. A bit. List of bad things that happened: 1) The zip on my dress 'popped' when I slid into the Limo. I had to fix it with safety pins, so they were digging into my side all night. 2) My hair deflated A LOT. :disappointed: It started really big but gradually got smaller. 3) My necklace left a black mark all the way around my neck. 4) Mum brought me another dress I have to my friend's After Party. This zip also broke. 5) No matter how much Eye Make-up Remover I used, my eyes still glitter. 6) I can't get a comb through my hair purely because of the sheer volume of hairspray it consumed. There's about 3 cans on there, and its all stuck. :pissed: EDIT: Plus, I've just realised I have blisters. :banghead: Wakeup = Not a happy bunny :knife:

Hi everybody! Chapter 10 of Trials and Redemptions is up now... hope everyone likes it! As always, I very much appreciate any constructive criticism or comments. I apologize for not posting sooner, but I just wasn't happy with it until I finished it about half an hour ago. But on the subject of critique... I'm a little concerned that nobody has posted any comments! Understandably the first chapter has lots more hits than the rest, this story won't be everyone's cup of tea, and I fully expected a rather low percentage of return readers. But at the same time, each chapter is getting fewer and fewer readers, but there aren't any comments! I can't make it better if no one wants to tell me what's wrong... so if you like something, but even more so if you don't like it, speak up! As long as you're polite about it, and most people on here are (based on seeing comments on other fics), I have no problem with hearing what anyone has to say. I think this chapter pretty much speaks for itself, so I don't have a lot to say other than I hope people like it. Hopefully Chapter 11 will be done very soon, but it's the only one I have left that hasn't developed past scratch notes, so it might be a week or two. But with any luck, maybe by this weekend. :)

Friday, 27 June 2008 06:29:18
First of all, I want to thank all of you for the warm welcome.xie xie Now, on to the log. I just wanted to point out some tributes to Firefly/Serenity within the 'verse and without the 'verse. These just made me smile when I came across them, and I thought that this shiny thing would make a great log. Within: This one is a musical tribute to Firefly within the BDM. I was listening to the soundtrack, and noticed the end of the song entitled "End Credits" sounded very familiar. It bothered me for the last few days, and then realized what it was. The end of "End Credits" is identical to the end of the song "The Funeral" from the series. That made me think of David Newman a little bit higher than I already regaurd him. I then noticed there are little phrases from the show all oer the place in the BDM. Try it out and listen! Without (outside for those not familiar with the English dialect): Joss Whedon does many incredible things. One of those was to write the Ashtonishing X-Men. I noticed just a small tribute. In the first installement, there is a scene where a baddy has some high-brow party guests held hostage. One of these baddys shouts, "You wanna die? You want a bullet through your throat?" That is an excellent tribute. That is the exact same thing that Mal yells at Simon, in Chinese, after Simon slugs him in the beginning of Serenity. Just thought these made me smile, so hopefully they will do the same for you. Xie xie, --CTMS

Hello fellow Browncoats! Many a thanks to those of you who have been reading my "Song of Serenity" series. I promised to have the next little installment out today, and though I did for a short while, I went back and deleted it. Quite simply, I didn't think it was good enough. I edited it, cut it off at one point and now have reposted it fully finished. And so, I implore all of you who are reading the series to read the next one and post a comment! I have already written a rough draft of Song of Serenity Part 4, and will have that out as soon as I can! Please tell me what you'd like to see in the next one! And again, I apologize for the confusion! You can't take the sky from me!

So I recently fell in love with this show and stumbled onto this site in the process. It’s amazing how a cancelled TV series has such a fan base- and never got a second chance! Granted there was a feature film, but like all of you here, I WANT MORE!!! As a filmmaker myself, I can only imagine how much pain Whedon must have gone through after finishing this show. I just finished my first film and actually finishing it is both a joy and a feeling of sadness. I’m never going back to those characters again. I’ll never work with that crew in that environment again. Unless of course we (my cast and I) ever should decide to revisit the world we created. Having watched Firefly and its feature film a few times now, I have such a longing for more adventures with Mal and his crew! The episode that hit me the most was “Out of Gas”. It’s very well written, acted, directed and really shows how great this show is and could have been if only people like myself caught onto it earlier. Deep in my heart, I know there’s more to come. I’ll be waiting… -Phil

Just a question before I start: Is it odd to do a daily log? Now,on to the log. Many people, even within this site, comment on the obsession of the 'Verse that we Browncoats possess. If they were true Browncoats, they would understand. Firefy is more than a show. Its a metaphore. A metaphore for complete freedom in a unfree 'Verse. Its about love and belief. It shows love in its raw state better than anything I've ever encountered. It teaches you to stick to your principals, no matter what may get in your way. Mal loved and believed in his family of a crew, he gave up a chance of fortune in "Better Days." This is a world that we can escape into and put ourselves into any of the given situations and find something in ourselves to overcome what ever it was that made us want to escape. Its something more than entertainment. Anyone who thinks otherwise is full of gos se. Just with another thought. Maybe not as smily as yesterday, but more of a "huh" kinda thing. Xie xie, --CTMS

As you can see from my latest chapter, I didn't kill off Allan. I wanted him to go through a traumatic event to help him and Zoe realize their feelings for each other. That relationship will be strained a bit I think as Allan heals. He's a man of action so being laid up with a broken arm and two broken legs is going to drive him batty. Also look for some more Simon/Kaylee and Rayne stuff as well. Ta for now Brian

This is just a wee fic update.. For those who read my Resurgence series, it's still ongoing. I'll get back to writing the fourth chapter one day. Thankfully, the muse hasn't completely fell on its a**, and I'm still inspired. There's all manner of unpleasant and emotional stuff that I still need to write. But, I've decided to shift my focus to something special in the meantime. In the true 'horror movie remake' style, I've decided to rewrite the Schism series. The first piece of fic that kickstarted my whole writing bug. It's been four years since I wrote that crazy story. So, I thought that it would be fun to rewrite it for a new audience, and make a 'director's cut' for myself, as it were. :) This won't be a simple, lazy rewrite. There's going to be a narrative overhaul. The updated chapters will be fleshed out, and the plot will be presented in a more linear fashion. (As opposed to my surreal, Tarantinoesque, pinball machine style of storytelling back in the day.) My understanding of the characters has deepened, so I might change and add to existing dialogue too. I've been having a riot dealing with chapter one in a different light so far, and hope to have that uploaded soon.

Ahem, I, A1C Browncoat, would like to formally appologize to all my readers and riders that I nearly lost my signal. I was infact, lost in a distant, post apocolyptic world in which an assassin begins to question his past and future. I realize I have UNINTENTIONALLY shunned you all from the great world inside my head and will make up for it, by this I swear. Tonight I will be writing(working *cough*) for most of the night, so that I bring those that want it more 'verse with Bo, Jessica, Smiley and Whiskey. Once again, I appologize, so please don't shoot me. :blast: Yours Truly, -A1C Browncoat

Before I start, this log does not mean I am glad for the uncerimonious axing of Firefly, nor am I vouching for the fwa-tza-duh-pi-gu f*x execs. Now, on to the log. I watched the piolet today. I began thinking of the many unanswered questions. Inara's vial, Shepherd Book, the mysterious area down the ladder in the cockpit, and the numerous others. I began, like, many of us do, to formulate my own ideas and scenarios. Then I thought about something very strange. Rather alarming in that "this bites, but rocks" kinda way. If we had been answered all of our questions, would we think of all of these fun little ideas. I'm sure we couldn't compare with the real answers that Joss had, but they get us going. They make us think. Make us think of how we miss it, how much we love it. I'm not saying I wouldn't love to have all of my questions answered, but the axing brought us as a community coser together by sharing our ideas and theories. Now do not go thinking I wouldn't love to see Firfly brought back. I would love to see "Dead or Alive" (the unproduced script) made into an episode. Or to have had the original BDM script shot. I just am thinking that the questions that not knowing what hese things are as much as a blessing as they are a curse. There. I said my deep thinking. I hope this inspired you somehow. Rats. :crap: Between CSTS and Shindig, I've fallen behind on 'The Guns of Yamenmiao' just a tad - hopefully no more'n a day or two. My apologies to all ye faithful if you were looking forward to a post on the morrow. This is also a somewhat tricksy part of the story that I'm not completely sure of, but after this it should be pretty smooth - and exciting - sailing. Hope y'all will stick around a spell!

We'll I've been part of this lovely site for just a little over 4 years now. So to celebrate I thought I'd share a picture of one of the cutest Browncoats I have ever seen. (Not that I'm biased or anything-- it's just true)

I've decided to do something Firefly-ish for 'July Novel Writing Month,' so I'm pleased to announce... "The Mechanic Diaries" Life aboard Serenity as told from the mechanic's point of view, from when she first joined up until right before the Big Damn Pilot starts. Not quite sure about the plot, but it'll probably have a few previously unexpected adventures. Hope you'll be looking forward to the first installment.

Chapter twenty ends my current story arc. The next bunch will take place about two months later when Allan has mostly healed. I have some Ideas floating around about Allan dealing with his old company and of course there's a wedding or two happening somewhere... Brian

When you find out an ex g/f of yours whom you were in love with for a fair amount of time , but have long since gone your separate ways, finally gets married... it does play w/ the mind a bit. There was no question as to whether she'd get married, quite the catch, but only who. And when. Why is it some doors in our past are so easy to close, yet others simply will not shut ? And it's far worse when it's a completely one side affair. As in, the ex may still show up in your dreams , maybe not very often, but in very vivid and emotional manner. Maybe definitaly knowing is the best thing. Might not feel like it, but over time, the subconscious can proccess it out and slowly close that door for good, and hopefully open a few more. Sure hope so. It sorta sucks right about now.
