Life, what life?
Sunday, 01 March 2009 00:16:33

Hey, we can't all be Peter Pan. I'm sorry that I disappeared... again. I spend most of my time job hunting these days and working part time at a learning center. -sigh- Ah, the hazards of living in today's economy. Good news, I have an interview on Monday, which may bring about more time for fic writing if I got the job, since I will be able to quit the other and not be coming home at 8:00 every night. Anyway, I'll try my best to keep you updated, life (the kind I don't have) wise and ficwise. Thanks, and bear with me.

My Demo Reel
Sunday, 01 March 2009 21:41:33

And, two months after actually finishing the gorramn course, I finally have a half-decent version of my reel. (Been locked out of the editing room we're supposed to have full access to --apparently some idjit in I.T. started deleting everyone's access cards, including the people who were still students. School's still trying to sort out the mess.)

Oh, the angst.
Tuesday, 03 March 2009 04:38:25

I just realized that all of my stories were angsty and dramatic. Not that I'm saying that serious and intense aren't good and all, but I'm like WTF MATE, why am I so depressing? And I mean depressing and not depressive, I've recently come to the conclusion that life is just too damned short and precious to waste time being depressed. But honestly, I will try to put in something a little more light, fluffy, humorous. I swear that I've done it before! haha. But, ah, you know what they say, conflict is interest.

"There's no place I can be since I found serenity..."
Tuesday, 03 March 2009 18:53:08

I first saw Firefly maybe a year ago. These days TV shows arent very good and only the comedies such as South Park or Family Guy are able to keep my interest. TV has become crapola these days and well when I say Firefly is the best damn show to ever exist I mean it. The cast are absolutely great at acting. The storyline is so compelling, humorous, and very well thought out. I really want to beat the crap out of the Fox guys who decided to pull the show just because of ratings. The bad ratings were there because Firefly doesnt cater to the vast group of retards that watch TV. They want stupid crap like Tila Tequila and and those damned dating shows..it makes me real angry that we who have actual taste are being forced not to watch good, quality stuff like Firefly. A friend of mine has all the episodes saved on his laptop and ive been watching them..ive got two episodes left and damn it im afraid to watch them cause i know that after those two thats it. Sure theres the movie Serenity that ive still to watch but other then that...there is no more. And it wasnt til today that I decided to look up Firefly stuff online, and here I find out of a very large fanbase and that Firefly has a bunch of rewards and that the loyal browncoats have fought every step of the way to get Firefly back on. I hope we can suceed. "Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand, I dont care I'm still free. You cant take the sky from me...." Also I play things like D&D and I damn near creamed my pants to find out that there is a Firefly RPG....I must get that book!!!

Ah What the Heck....

More Albatross Diaries, little teaser for y'all. Promise I'll post relatively soon, these have been a long time coming. The following is really opaque and not very representative of the whole, but the others would give too much away. Copyrights 2009 and all apply, etc.: -------------------------------------------------- ENTRY # ???? They are playing with the Amygdala—poor child. None of us really care, and her mother shouldn’t have named her that. With such a name, how can she not be teased in dark alleys? Afraid of the garbage collectors. The cockroaches. Afraid she will wake up one morning like them, with an exoskeleton and nothing else inside. I am pages in an album, layered together and pressed until they make a girl of letters, a paper daughter. There is carbon in paper, and, given more coaching, I could someday become more than a rough diamond. I need to be cut, and set into my place. A life in sips or slips—of these, strong synthesis cannot be made, and Ockham’s blade is become defiled—with only two hands he cannot possibly handle all these conclusions offered by single incidences. This is funny, laugh with me! Humor abounds in the lack of synchronous development or understanding, and life must be split, repeated again, like petals on an ever-blooming tree. I think his now-multiple razors should be named Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, come to purge Denmark of the hypocrisy it has skirted for so long. But they are kept on a hempen leash, and are not let out alone. They run away like sniggering children, these vandals of my soul.

Relfexive was on Jimmy Kimmel
Thursday, 05 March 2009 16:33:58

Jimmy Kimmel showed Nathan a few pictures of fans that dress in costume. One of the Mal pictures was of Relfexive. I know it was Rel. He has an awesome Mal costume. Can anyone back me up on this? Yeah, Jimmy was trying to make fun of us and the guys in the pictures, but Nathan liked Rel's coat. I got so excited. I sat up straight and said, "Holy crap, that's Rel!" Of course no one was around to hear me, but I said it.

Missing the browncoats
Friday, 06 March 2009 05:17:51

I really miss this show! Why do they cancel the best shows, and keep all this reality, pop-culture, dribble? Television is so mindless. But Firefly was amazingly created, well executed, well cast, well written, well filmed, etc, etc. I can't believe there won't be anything new to experience. What a sad reality.

FireFly Stimulus?
Friday, 06 March 2009 05:20:14

Maybe I should petition Barrack Obama to bring back Firefly with some of the stimulus money! Seriously! It would create jobs for the cast and crew, lots of production staff. But more importantly, it would give me something to do since they have been cutting back my hours. Bring back this show!

Preacher-man is an android!

Cutscene from Our Mrs. Reynolds: Book: "Either that or she's starting a pillow collection. I'm still collating data." I kid thee not. I thought the Alien jokes stopped with the Weylan-Yutani weapons logos, cryo-dream jokes, half of Ariel and Wash's hawaiian shirts...and... But this is a direct lift. Like plagiarism, or something.:D Darn it, Joss, for wanting to forget Alien so much, you sure have a lot of in-jokes. I love Book. That line is too menacing for him. I'd hate to see him in ooblik-covered pieces. But that explains why he never needs to sit down....

Said that this afternoon, about 2 hours ago. been in ICUs and hositals since Monday night and that was when they pulled the last IV outta my arm, and let me go. Long story about why-- I'll post it in a coupla days. But hey, one a' the people I met there was an old browncoat, tho' not on this site. And while I was waiting for something to happen, we had a nice long talk about many things: FF, Baen books, Spider Robinson, The Witches of Karres, I fergit what all else. Meanwhile, I met maybe 100 pretty, kind women this week. Unfortunately, all of 'em were interested in S & M

Updates and Suchness
Monday, 09 March 2009 07:00:56

Well, I'm writing, writing, writing. It's spring break right now and I really don't have anything else to do. "Keeping On" is finished (I just have to edit/correct/post the remaining parts. It could take a while, because I'm always finding some little detail that needs fixing.) and I've started writing the sequel. I also have more stories planned out in what I like to call the "Keeping On 'Verse." Once I started writing "Keeping On," I knew that I wasn't going to be able to let it go. :D Hoping y'all are well, GG

New fic series
Thursday, 12 March 2009 03:40:00

Despite the title, my new fic is not porn! The title comes from a Robbie Robertson song and I had it in my head for a long time before I realized the pornish quality of it. Oh, well. Maybe I'll get more readers with that title, huh? But those clicking on that fic hoping for River smut will be sorely disappointed. This story is my first attempt at an actual adventure with a...plot!

Okay...so AC on day, Snow the next....
Thursday, 12 March 2009 21:52:29

Again with the changing of weather ....Monday we had 80s as well as Tuesday, so I turned on the AC so that the house wouldn't be so stuffy. Wednesday it was 79 degrees in the morning and by five in the evening, it had dropped to 43 degrees. This morning, I awoke to snow outside and 34 degrees. So, now you know...don't like the weather in Oklahoma, wait five minutes and it will change....

Dollhouse fanfics....(already!?)
Friday, 13 March 2009 20:20:57

I feel kinda stupid honestly posting this. Dollhouse hasn't even finished it's first (and hopefully not last) season and I've already started writing on it. I finished a short, one-shot, fic today. So now posting it becomes the issue, I suppose. Is there a Dollhouse fan site up yet? or how would people feel about me posting it here? I mean i know it's FIREFLYfans.com, but by extension it's also in support of Joss Whedon. Right? i guess i'm just trying to see what the concensus is here. In short where should i post?

More Updates
Saturday, 14 March 2009 04:46:29

I'm still writing up a storm. I've gotten three chapters done this week and I'm working on another one currently. I'm into the second story of this series and it's getting easier and easier to get into this little 'Verse I've been writing. I'm hoping that I can get the next story written fairly soon, because I've learned from past experience not to start posting a multi-part story until it's finished, because otherwise I can stall forever. The reason for the delays in posting (aside from being busy) is mostly because I'm always going back and looking chapters over and doing edits here and there. So...hopefully y'all will stick with me as I continue to write. Later y'alls, - GG

Pinocchio and His Spending Money
Monday, 16 March 2009 08:19:59

This is technically an update on "Copper for a Kiss". Yes I know I can't let it die. And I like making connections that are only coincidental. This is very specifically disclaim'd as one of those. I realized the first time I saw it that the copper was supposed to be the Judas parallel + 'penny for your thoughts', combined by River's metaphorical brain. Pinnochio is given a bunch (either 30 or 50) pennies by Geppeto to attend school with. They are very specifically copper pennies in most tales(ie coppers). Pinocchio our real boy is off to school when he meets with a pair who chase him through the entire bizzare plotline--the deceitful Cat and Fox, referred to as an entity (they don't separate) throughout the story. Disguised, after setting a trap, they finally catch him and try to hang him, but he puts the coins in his mouth (as for the dead, oddly) and they never find the money. Also, the "Blue Fairy" is presented as a magical all-powerful entity that rewards, destroys and watches over Pinocchio, intervening seemingly at random. Hmm. Whatever, just thought I'd throw in another two cents. I think I'll just go listen to the Fruity Oaty Bar song now. :)

Observances At The Gym
Wednesday, 18 March 2009 17:17:03

As my Air Force career rolls to a complete stop, I've been to the gym the last couple of days to try and get back in fighting shape (and, yes, I understand that I should have been in shape anyways, but what're you gonna do, eh?) before a complete gym is no longer available for me to use. Surreality abounds at the base gym here. I'll start with what happened yesterday, the first time I've been to the gym in more than a month. Pope AFB is on its way to being Pope Army Air Field, and the Army from neighboring Fort Bragg is eager to get its hands on this base. A little too eager, in my opinion. There are several gyms on Bragg for their use, but they seem to like ours. Just lately, two Army privates were nabbed in Air Force PT gear to get around the Pope AFB exclusive times enforced at the gym. Seems like they just let them have the run of the joint anyways, and that's fine, really. But, when I got there yesterday, there were three Army females in the corner together "working out". By working out, I mean they were exercising their freedom of speech, and appeared (I say appeared, because I couldn't hear them and can't be certain of what they were saying) to be pointing and laughing at random people who were trying to exercise. I was not amused, as I was one of them. I am not the "Gym Clown" brought in to amuse you as you desperately try to give the appearance of exercise, and no one likes being laughed at in the gym, Carrot-Top included (you seen that guy lately. It's frightening!). But, you can only fight so many battles. Today, as I went to the gym this morning, I encountered a young woman, a little overweight, on the elliptical machine next to me. She was giving it her all, effort and sweat flying out for all to see. What struck me as humorous was that she was mouthing the words to whatever song she was listening to on her iPod at the moment. The overall effect, honestly, was kinda sexy. But, I didn't come to the gym for sexy observances. I came to make the outside as pretty as the inside! So, I got to it. Now, to the outside observer, I'm certain it appeared that I did, indeed, need the assistance at least two people offered me while I was running on the machine. The simple truth is much, much stupider. The reason why I was waving my arms about wildly while running full tilt on the elliptical machine was that I was listening to DMX's "Party Up". I was affecting a sort of standing whiteboy dance move while running, and completely unaware that I was doing it. I couldn't help myself, and as I've said in the past: Sometimes, I just got the music in me. Should you see me in the gym executing this unnecessary move (unnecessary for fitness means, at any rate), feel free to point and laugh. I promise I won't be angry, and I definitely will not vent my frustration at your alleged rudeness on FFF.net in the flylog. I promise. Mostly.

Updates in the "Keeping On 'Verse"
Friday, 20 March 2009 05:08:42

Still writing, still having a blast. It's a bit slower than it was last week; I'm back at school and sadly, classes take priority. I'd like to thank everyone for their kind feedback -- everyone's been so nice and it's very humbling. Hopefully I can keep up the good work and not let anyone down. Some (but certainly not everything) of What's to Come (in general, not just in "Keeping On"): * Finding out the secret that Lilah doesn't know is a secret * Some glimpses of Lilah's life before joining our heroes * More Monty, for those who love Monty * Not too much Monty, for those who don't love Monty * Some more romance * Not too much romance * A trip to an Alliance-friendly bar on U-Day * Badger and his very fine hat * The crew finding out just what Lilah keeps in the bag she always has with her on the bridge * Pies So...hopefully that's vague enough for them that like it vague and not too vague for those who want the instant gratification of knowing. ;) Thanks to everyone for sticking with me as I write this 'Verse. -GG

I need ship pictures.
Saturday, 21 March 2009 05:33:06

I mean all ships in this verse. I have pictures of Fireflys and any pictures that are in the RPG book but i need pictures of ather ships. Wren and the older ships of the revers. How ever i would like to know if there is any thing at all out there on them or if i need to just make up the nessesary ships and classifications to make the verse make that much more sense to me. Not to make the verse of Firefly more science fantasy then it was intended for. Yeah thanks.

the three best things about being a teacher...
Saturday, 21 March 2009 19:59:03

1. Christmas Break 2. Spring Break 3. Summer Break I'm on #2, and I'm liking it. :) Not as much as I'll be liking #3 when I get there, I'm sure. Only two and a half months until the big pay off - I've been waiting for June 2009 ever since I started job hunting in 2007. It's so due! Anyway, I'm really blogging to say that I have in fact been working on my fic, and it may be completed relatively soon. Sooner than never anyway. ;) Right now, I have 7 chapters either being beta'd or close. Of course, the story is stretching as I go - it takes more chapters to tell then I would have thought. (I just love all the chatty sections in between the actual plot-moving-forward action, and all that jibber jabber takes up space.) So there's still a lot to do. At least 10 more chapters, I'm guessing. I'm not ready to hazard a guess at when I'll start posting - depends on how much I get done in the next week. But I think I'm close!

Does any one know
Saturday, 21 March 2009 20:44:23

Im looking to goin to a nerd convention sometime in the near future thats why i was a wonderin abotu the patches. and the Pictures and advie of n the ship classes helps. nerd convention= any event where people gather to embrace something that the majority( minority anymore it seems but that might just be the people i atract) of the population has deamed nerdy ex: magic the gathering or other TCG's, scifi and comc book conventions, video game and anime conventions and of course the one that is all of them thrown in one Dragincon. I love bein a nerd.

New Bedlam Bards Album Available Now!
Sunday, 22 March 2009 19:49:07

Ni-hao, Browncoats, Well, this is NOT the album with our now Firefly songs. That will be the next one that we can work on now. But if you enjoy the bawdier side of our repertoire, this album is for you. Last May, the Bedlam Bards recorded a three-day weekend's worth of shows at the Oklahoma Renaissance Festival. We recorded in the Black Boare Pub, where we've been singing dirty songs for nearly a decade. The best 79 minutes of that became our newest album. Barnyard Bedlam: A Cock and Bull Story is now available! You can admire the cover, gasp at the song list, and order your own copy here:

*Is Happy*
Monday, 23 March 2009 23:44:28

No real point to this, other than I saw a quote of mine up in the fic-quote part of the Blue Sun Room and it made me ridiculously happy. I'm not sure why, but it did. :D -GG

Check it, the creative juices will flow....yeah that sounded gross
Tuesday, 24 March 2009 11:56:41

? Research?
Saturday, 28 March 2009 06:42:06

Hey to all those that dont know im an enginering major at my little state college and this is a topic much interesting to me. So im lookin to do my masters thesis (when that comes) on artificial gravity (possibilities whats been done and the probability of it becoming science fact) So if any ones got anythin they can share i would be much appreciated. Thanks SigmaNunki, for that bit. The reason im asking in this fashion is that i might be a crack pot to begin with. But i have read on some expirements being done on the nature of gravity and also one such report that artificial gravitaional forces have been generated electromagneticly in a controled lab invironment. I try to keep upto date (as much as is allowed) on what is being done in the making of science fiction to science fact. The new super clider i expect will give us great insight in the next few years as experiments really begin there. If yall want the links to what i have pulled off from the various scienific periodicals. Ask. Jane0904 the cetrofuse is exactly as SigmaNunki said not artificial grave but more simulated and is in fact not showed any real practical use as far as the test nasa and other organizations made public. But who knows.

Triad on hold.
Saturday, 28 March 2009 18:19:08

My muse has up and run away on me. I have a rough idea what I want to do with this story line... But dang it, if I know how to get there! I've tried to brute force my way through the writers block but all that resulted in was something that just didn't look right. I also, got a review on Relics from over at Fanfiction.net that hit hard. The reviewer said that all I have been doing is rehashing the same storyline over and over. Maybe I have, maybe I haven't. In the meantime, I think I'm going to work on the "Big one" Set eight years post Triad. It starts with a wedding and ends with a funeral. Who's is yet to be completely decided. The Big Damn Heroes will only be seen early on except for Zoe. this will be a second generation centered fic. I hope I can pull this one off and that it recharges Triad. Truly since I do find it annoying when I get into reading a story myself and it suddenly ends half way through. Anyway, I'll have the first chapter of what I'm calling "Quest" up in a few days (I hope) Brian

The Irony of Strikes
Saturday, 28 March 2009 20:25:31

I was just thinking the other day how utterly stupid some of the WGA writers might be feeling lately. There were several good shows that premiered last season. Some were critically acclaimed and had fantastic ratings. The ones that pop into my mind are Chuck and Pushing Daisies. Then the Writer's Strike happened. Don't get me wrong. I appreciate the plight of the writers and I kind of understand why they went on strike. The way I understood it, they weren't getting paid properly for their work that was released on DVD . . . or some such. But I strongly feel there SHOULD have been a better way to handle it. What that way may have been is beyond me. That's for smarter people than myself to ponder  But look at what happened. Journeyman, a show that aired on Monday nights was just gaining ground when the strike happened. But the ratings were still questionable, so the network decided not to renew it for another season. Pushing Daisies (a personal favorite) was very well received. It was different and imaginative and had great ratings. But the strike, for whatever reason, helped viewers forget about it and when it DID return the ratings were way down and never recovered - canceled. And now there is news that Chuck might get renewed for the same reason Daisies was. Viewership is down. I personally don't think the quality of the show has suffered when it came back this season. It's still a great show. But the length of time between last season and this, because of the writer's strike, caused people to lose interest and that's a shame. I feel the irony of all this is in the fact that the writers of those shows who striked to get better wages in one area, lost there jobs because of it. Now I know that some of them have already moved on or had several other projects going on at the same time. But now, those shows are gone and will never return. I truly hope that Chuck is renewed. It really is a fantastic show. Those actors AND writers deserve the recognition in terms of the show's potential longevity. And . . . well . . . Adam Baldwin certainly deserves to have a steady job for quite a while, dontcha think?

Fanfic Musings
Monday, 30 March 2009 01:43:16

During some recent breaks in writing (as seldom as those are), I've been ruminating on the fanfic I've written and will still be writing for quite some time to come because I AM DAMN-FER-SURE GOING TO FINISH IT. Even though, yes, it's a five-parter. But I recently realised that being a five-parter, it touches on each of what one might call Firefly's 'core values', continuing themes, elements that we see appear over and over from Serenity to Serenity. I thought about the comments from more than one esteemed reviewer to the effect that 'The Guns of Yamenmiao' had a distinctly western feel to it, that they could lose themselves in its western-ness. I'm compelled to agree in light of the omnipresence of trains, guns and shoot-outs throughout that story. So what do I see as the other four core themes of Firefly, to be explored in each coming part of

Heh, that's pretty much how I'm feeling with my fics here, AKA Haven't written one in a while. My apologies. I just started working a second job, :knife: I'm not dead and I didn't forget. There will be more. Sometime. Soon. LOL. Thanks for bearing with me.

Betas (not fish related!)
Monday, 30 March 2009 19:57:39

Well, unless they're purple. The purple ones are pretty. Can I say that here? Purple is pretty? So, now that I've hopefully got the inevitable looking-like-a-complete-fool part of my first blog post ever over with... I could use a proofreader for a chapter of something I'm writting. I expect to finish sometime this week, and it should be about four to six pages in microsoft word, so it won't take long. Ships are canon, not really prominent, but Kaylee does talk about Simon at one point. Rated about PG, probably. One of my major problem areas to look for is when I get overly flowery with the narrative language, it's a habit of my writting style, but it's probably not perfect for the firefly feel. My pacing might be going too fast. I'd like to be spot on with my characterization. And I'm also trying to decide whether to keep this chapter, since it's mostly exposition, or just skip it in favour of starting the story right in the middle of all the action. I tend to write in third person passive voice, so the text should read somewhat like the perspective of the point of view character. As a stylistic choice, however, I don't fully adopt the speech pattern of the character for the narrative. Oh, and since this chapter is meant to have some comedy in it, it'd help to know if it's, you know, actually funny. And if there are any other problem spots, I wouldn't mind hearing about them so I can make some effort at fixing them. I really don't know how people beta around here... If there's any etiquette I'm supposed to observe or if anyone's interested, feel free to message me. Sorry if this is too long.
