The problem is that Trump wasn’t prepared.
Trump barely had any notes or talking points heading into the meeting (he also didn’t have a hotel room, by the way). Putin, by contrast, came in ready to go as he famously does.
Putin reached into his suit jacket pocket, removed notecards listing perceived American sins against Russia, and read them one by one. Only then could the substantive discussions begin.
After the meeting, it seems like Putin got what he was looking for.
Trump bought the Kremlin’s denials of election meddling, even though the entire US intelligence community believes the Kremlin mounted a sophisticated campaign to help him win the White House.
Trump’s top aides have been hemming and hawing for days about whether Trump would use today’s high-profile meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin to hammer Moscow for its election meddling. Nope. Trump decided to back Putin and hammer the United States. According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Trump told Putin that some in the United States were “exaggerating” how much Russia affected the election’s outcome.

Az I expected, the 'meeting' wuz Putin making a few ajustments on hiz puppet to get him ready for the next act.
It may not be a good thing that Mueller iz keeping a lid on hiz investigation. I am worried that hiz good professional habits coud enable Putin to make bad stuff happen befor Meuller finishez dotting every i and crossing every t.

Lavrov also said that either Trump or US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson (he couldn’t remember) said the “campaign” about Russia’s alleged interference has taken on “a strange nature,” according to a report in Russian on RIA, another state-run news agency.
Lavrov’s statements haven’t been disputed by the Trump administration. They are likely to drive an even deeper wedge between the White House and the US intelligence community, even as the FBI and is investigating whether the Trump campaign or administration colluded with Russia to interfere in the election.
Trump’s continued assertion that any assertion that Russia meddled in the last US election is “fake news” have been publicly disputed by intelligence agencies and members of Congress.

I don't see anything here to even be concerned about.
We don't have any proof of Russian hacking or influencing. "17 agencies" you guys were quoting for a long time here turned out to be only some members of 4 agencies. To date, not a single shred of evidence has been given to the American public that this even took place at all.
If Trump does know otherwise because he's President, and he's privy to information that we're not, why would telling Putin he believed him mean that he was telling the truth to Putin? You haven't believed a single thing that Trump has said in 6 months. Why choose this thing?

It seems to me like we've gone from "THE RUSSIANS HACKED THE ELECTIONS!!!" to simply "The Russians influenced Americans by lowering their faith in the Democratic process".
Meanwhile, in Reality...
Nobody has trusted Congress for a VERY LONG TIME.
Even a very unpopular President usually has a higher approval rating than congress.
Hillary was a terrible candidate with A LOT of skeletons in her closet that were exposed.
The DNC colluded with Hillary, shut Bernie out, and even colluded with the MSM.
Seems to me like faith was already pretty low in the Democratic institutions in America before any supposed meddling by Russia.
It also seems to me like any faith that was given to them was misplaced.
If Russia did have any involvement in any of this, all they did was put light on some bad things being done.
Here's a tip. For politicians and the MSM.
Stop doing underhanded shit for a living, and then you can't be called out on doing underhanded shit for a living by 3rd parties.
