Hello,

I just learned that there was a shooting in Colorado during a late night screening of Batman last night. A gunman with a rifle, two pistols, and a tear gas canister made the cinema into a confused charnel house.

My deepest sympathies to those who endured this terrible aggression.

News said one of the injured is a 3-month-old baby.

Who the hell takes a 3-month-old baby to a midnight movie premier? Or to ANY movie?

Wow... I'm so out of the loop when I don't work a job where I can surf the internet and I don't have cable or even an antenna!!! I'm sure it was in my local paper, but I'm like 1 1/2 weeks behind on reading that since I got 2 game informers from my bro as "crapper" reading.

That simply is just horrible news.

Not to make light of the situation Kwick, but I have a similar story of a baby at a movie. It was a "daylight" viewing of "Minority Report", several years ago with my Dad who taught me to love Sci-Fi movies.

Toward the end of the movie, you know, where there were about 5 different places it could have included, a baby started crying about 10 rows down from us. It even sounded at times that whoever was holding the baby was trying to "muffle" the sound, rather than leave the theater. My old man had already seen the movie and isn't big on confrontation. (I got that from my Mom). After about 10 minutes of not being able to hear the movie and NO-SINGLE-OTHER-PERSON in the theater speaking up I finally stood up and yelled out "will somebody shut that fucking baby up!", to which there was universal applause.

The two of them left in a hurry after that and we got to watch the rest of the movie.

My Dad said "what are you doing, trying to start a race war?".... LOL

He hasn't asked me to go to a movie with him since then. Kinda sad, on more than one level....

It wasn't until my second viewing of the movie that I filled in all the gaps of what I missed.

I'd still like to know the hell the motivation was here, especially now that I know a baby was harmed. If I was a thug I would have physically threatened the parents to make the same point I made, but I'd never think of harming an innocent baby.

What kind of monster would do that?

EDITED TO ADD:

The type of people who would take their 3 month old baby to a movie I do feel a lot of pity for. Who can afford a babysitter these days? Shit... even if they only bought the tickets, the seats for the two of them equal more than I make in 1/2 a night's work. If they bought any popcorn and candy and drinks, might as well call it a full night's work. Add a babysitter to the mix when family can't watch the baby and it's closer to two nights' worth of nearly minimum wage payments.

I truly feel sorry for them.

True, their baby didn't belong there, but SHOT?????

Yanno, if you put the gun arguments aside(because they've been done to death and it gets us nowhere) if you look at the bigger picture here....It's young males that are the problem. Having a conversation last night about how many young guys can't get it together, have addictions that run their lives, and can't manage the simplest of relationships...

Maybe mandatory service of some kind whether it be community or military wouldn't be the worst idea... and give 'em a mental health assessment while you're at it...
