Here's an official update on a possible sequel!
http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=56130
I am pretty excited to see this moving forward to a certain degree, but all the original cast has to return and they have to do it right. Ghostbusters 2 was fun and watchable, but paled in comparison to the first movie. I saw the advertisement for the Ghostbusters video game and I can almost guarantee we'll have it in our house before too long! It was doing the voice-work for the game that got Bill Murray excited about possibly doing another film, something he'd been shying away from for quite some time.
Of course, I agree with Ramis that it should be a "passing of the torch" (my words, not his) type of story. Murray and the gang are sadly gettin' to old for that kind of thing. Personally, I'd like to see Sam Rockwell, Neil Patrick Harris, Jeffery Donnovan, or heck, even our BDH's in any role for this flick as the new generation of Ghostbusters!
Thoughts?

I'm up for it!
But nothing will ever touch the first on IMO.

That's just one of those movies that I simply can't stand. It's horrible, it always was horrible, it will always be horrible. Just simply awful. It's not funny, it's not scary, it's not intense, it's just... BLAH. I might as well watch Caddyshack II.

I stand with Chris on this one, it's well past time for the new Ghostbusters effort. And I agree it should exist as a "passing the torch" effort. Didn't Sigourney Weavers character have a baby boy? If the baby was born in 1988 (Ghostbusters II timeline) then that kid would be 21, old enough to pick up the particle beam I think.
And we need to see the return of Rick Moranis as Vince Klortho the Keymaster!!!

WHAT? Kwicko really just said that?
But... But it has the quote "Back off, man, I'm a scientist"!
Every single line is practically a geeky joke or science joke or a reference to an actual historical occurrence (only often not actually so paranormal or inexplicable in reality). I mean, it was a classic when it came out!
It's like saying you hate Back to the Future! How can ANYONE hate Back to the Future?!

I used to think Kwicko was pretty smart.
I can understand someone saying that about the second film, but the first is golden.

Everyone has their weak moments, when the devil's temptation is just too great to turn down, or the Dark Side just seems to much fun.
These days mental lapses like this are all too common.
And personal taste doesn't come into it when you are talking about a film called Ghostbusters.
What Kwicko needs is our help.
To show him the right way and MAKE him understand the error in his comments.
If you have a god pray for him.
If you don't then voodoo or black magic is just as good. Torture works too.
In time he will change his views.
On a more serious Ghostbusters 3 wil have such a build up and hype about it I hope that it doesn't overshadow the movie itself. So much has changed in film since they were last on screen.
I hope they get the guy William Atherton plays. He does such a good job with character like that (see Die Hard 1+2).

Sorry, gang, but I've *tried* to like that movie, and I just can't pull it off. And Back to the Future was okay, but I sure as heck couldn't see why they had to make MORE of them...
Maybe if I'd been younger when they came out, I'd like them more. Don't know. And the hype around Ghostbusters definitely led me to expect more.
If it's any consolation, there really aren't many movies from that time frame that I *do* like. Spinal Tap and Amadeus stand out...
