And parts of it are just horrible. Honestly, who the hell ever thought Sting could be an actor? "I *will* kill him!"

I believe there are three great storytellers of my time.
Joss Whedon - in the medium of TV
Neil Gaiman - in the medium of graphics
(The Late) Frank Herbert - in the medium of novels

This puts me in a biased position to have a conversation about Dune but I can absoutely agree that the 1984 film was corrupted in several places. Heartplugs. Killing people with sound. Sting's presence. The more recient Sci-Fi channel effort fixed many of those issues...but then created a whole new freakshow: Idiotic costumes, changed plotlines (Irulan seducing Feyd), ect. Watched together however, the full image of the tale's glory is almost all there. And Children of Dune throws a near bullseye, since sci-fi was hammered with emails from people like me upset over the stupid Bulls**t present in the orginal effort.

I guess I cannot think of another 80's effort that you might have liked. I really can't wrap my mind around why anyone who likes Firefly wouldn't be at least amused by Ghostbusters.

Some dudes are repulsed by hype... I have a friend that would NOT go to see 48HRS when it came out, just because it got great reviews & fantastic word of mouth recommendations.
It boggled my mind back then, but it really has an effect on some peeps.

My neighbor who I converted to Firefly handed me this DVD with a smirk. I'm still not sure what the hell I saw. Have you seen this one Chris? What a bizarre unrealistic wackadoodle movie.

It's a little odd, but surely memorable.

Ripper, I assume you've never seen "Creator" starring Peter O'Toole. If you had, it would be among your favorite 80s movies.

OOOOF!!! Forgot that one!

*EDIT* There were plenty more, but these were among the "Best of" while the others were good, just not quite as good, and horror was never a genre I got into.
