“It’s nothing, Warren, it’s just… We had some good times here, TheGreyJedi and Needleseye and I. Grey taught us things, amazing things about all his inventions. He was self-reliant, a loner. He was a hard guy to get to know, but we knew him, Needle and I. When I started working down here, I felt at home, for the first time since we Brides got here. Tinkering around, fixing this ship, it was something important. The three of us had good times together.

“But Grey left, and it seems Needle joined him. Why didn’t they take me with them, too? I’ve been wondering about that, and wondering when they might come back. Just about every day, I’ve been waiting for him to walk out of his quarters. Waiting for him to call us over to show us some new invention, some new toy.

“But now, they’ve moved you into Grey’s quarters. Moved his stuff out. That means… that means they don’t expect him to ever come back!”

"I don't know if Mr Jedi is coming back. I know that if he does, I will surrender the room back to him in a heartbeat. I can tell you that from what little I know about him he's a amazing man. I suspect that he and I have a lot in common. Sometimes I wish I could sit down and talk with him over a beer. I suppose I miss him and I never met him." SR pauses and take a deep breath and then let's it out and begins anew.

"Life is about change. I guess I'm one of those changes. I'm sorry if you felt left out today. I promise to include you in any future tinkering sessions, if that's what you want. I know I'm not him and I not going to pretend to be him, but I know that all we have on this ship is each other and I'm here now. Tomorrow I plan on building a still if things are quiet. Would you like to help me?"

(ooc- I know what you mean about keeping the family together, but if some people don't want adventures then its not fair to meke them wade through it in order to be whimsical. It not like the people on the new thread are going to turn round and declare war, its also not like going off for adventures forbids us them from visiting the Tree (end a thread with the landing of the ship nr the tree, play on the tree house for a while, then start a new adventure with a new ship thread. The joy of this place is its entirely flexible) So if TWG and others don't want it, we don't have to foist it on them)(an hey, its not like there ain't some ways to make doubles so people that wish to could be in both places at once - cloning, golems, time travel, totally ignoring the fact :D)

Wisp, awoken by th who har, wanders to the common room wearin a pair of jeans and a shirt that isnt fastened exposing himself to pg13 rating but not quite a 15. After hearing the Speach about the division of the tree he ponders for a while on where he should go.

The whimsy of the the tree house sounds appealing, no guns, swords, grenades, or people trying to kill him and more opportunity to get some skirt.
But he wasnt the type to sit in a chocuzzi drinking margarita's and disscuissing pie fights.
He longed for adventure no matter how risky. He wanted to be free to get excited and dangerous without having to retire and buy a cat.

After much thought he makes up his mind. He returns to his room and pats Doris on the head and leaves a letter.
"im sorry friends but im too young to retire to a life of random fun so im leaving. Please look after doris and dont forget my short time aboard.

Yours Wisp"

He packs his belongings into a small rucksack and remove his console again. He selects side-to-side transport and closes his eyes, he'll be back on ariel in a blink and he can return to his simple life. He presses enter and is lost in a flash of blue light.

On the nandi Seryn looks back to see a very bemused Wisp:
"what are you doing here?"
"I really dont know"

BEFORE ANYONE LEAVES, CONSIDER THIS:

I understand, I think, what ThatWeirdGirl wants. She wants a return to some of the happier, sillier times and adventures, perhaps like those we had in MaiQuest2, where we found a pirate ship and had to deal with them and the sharks in the water. Where we regularly used spamguns and hula-hoops as weapons. Where we had a lot less deadly peril and a lot less angst.

Some of our more recent additions have preferred a more realistic, gritty, violent style of writing. I personally have enjoyed these stories, but I can see where the constant violence can become oppressive. We could use a change.

Well, some folks can sit in a chocolate jacuzzi, sipping alchohol and splashing each other for perhaps hundreds of posts in a row. That's fine for them, and I hope they enjoy themselves. But to me, this sort of thing is mind-numbingly dull.

I like action and adventure. I like being on a spaceship. I like stories with plots, character interactions, and character development (I love Aprilise’s young sisters, for example). I do not like someone reshuffling reality on a whim, like we are with Alice in Wonderland where literally anything can happen next for no logical reason (“Oh, today, we all seem to have turned into badgers!”). I have worked very hard to catalog our threads, to establish a chronology and a coherency to our stories, and I do not like the idea of someone snapping their fingers and saying that the last 40 threads didn’t happen. Also, as much as possible, I want to keep our family together, at least until our second anniversary later this month.

In the past, we have been able to have both. There have been some who have sat around being silly (like at the resort on Black Diamond) and others who were in on the action (like those during the same thread who chased the FemaleReaver and first met the Yeti).

In the past, between more serious adventures, we have had times to relax, down times, such as when we landed among dandelions and had a pifflepony race. It has been a long time since we did such a thing, and I was planning on steering us toward that as soon as our shuttles had been recovered from Commerce. However, one problem that I remember having is that those who clamor for such down time tend to not bother posting anything when we get some down time. So soon enough a more action-oriented person starts the peril up again. If you want to relax and do silly things DO something, please.

SO, HERE IS MY PROPOSAL FOR THE NEXT THREAD:

The Sereni-Tree is still a starship in orbit over Garrison. In a VERY few posts, we collect our people and calmly make arrangements about who will stay with the Sereni-Tree and who will leave (perhaps on the Dagger). Nobody will have to scramble to make a decision, such as when Seryn barely got out in time on the Nandi.

After that, Sereni-Tree will make a hyperspace jump to Earth-That-Still-Is. During the time in hyperspace, we will hold the Second Gala Pageant, which I will leave to TWG and Cozen to coordinate. EXCEPT that I must insist that nobody be left out; both genders must be allowed to participate in some fashion. Perhaps we can finally hold our “bizarre clothing” competition. On the Sereni-Tree there will be no serious peril during this thread. Character interaction and development are encouraged.

And I’m sorry, but there is bound to be SOME angst during character develpment. The young orphans Shadow and Ghost must try to relate to their new home. TWG and SimonWho are still destined to be the parents of PsychicRiver and they might need to deal with that issue. Back when Jet was actually posting, she clearly had a strong devotion to TheGreyJedi. To have his special private quarters be given to someone else would cause a reaction.

For me, our characters must retain SOME sense of reality. I just can’t go to the place where our biggest concern is that our friendly fluffly white bunny with big floppy ears has misplaced his carrot. I cannot live among Smurfs!

TRM, that's a great idea. I like some downtime as much as the next man, but at the same time (as my fanfic shows!) I do like some action and some angst! But for the sake of the SereniTREE, I'm more than willing to compromise.

{OOC: I hope I'm putting myself in the right place because I have no idea where I'm supposed to be...}
Citizen blinked. "Well that's gratitude for you, I buy them weapons and they flit off with half of them with out so much as a Bye-Or-Leave."

He turned to Safe. "So what's the big plan now then?"

See, this is why a) people are leaving the thread (and well before TWG posted anything) and b) we need to have a change. There's too much going on. I liked action and adventure but now there's umpteen ships doing umpteen different things in umpteen different places. All in one thread (albeit a vast continuating one). Even TRM's excellent summaries are becoming vaguer, mostly because there are some severe non-contiguous things going on.

To me, that's worse than living among Smurfs (*suspects TRM might be Gargamel in disguise*): if nothing makes any sense, then it carries no weight. There's loads of great writing here that is going to waste because the next guy thinks he's on a different ship or wants to shoot all the bad guys immediately.

I like the idea of the tree being a base point while other people launch separate threads for each adventure then return to base while we sip chocolate milkshakes underneath the mango tree.

There's no hostility here: all is love. I just want everyone to be able to continue to enjoy themselves.

{OOC: I really have no problem with that, I just wasn't sure what was going on .

I agree I haven't really posted at all on this thread because I have absolutly no idea where I was supposed to be nor what I was supposed to be doing.

I couldn't seem to work out from reading the thread or from TRMs valiant attempts at a summary where I was or supposed to be either...}

OOC: I don't like making OOC posts.

*JadeHand finishes his margarita as he slurps up the whipped cream on his face. He takes a good long hard look around the room at all the crew and is so very pleased with the decreased angst. But something does trouble him greatly... something is just wrong..... His glass is empty! With grim determination he stalks to the bar and scoops up another beverage, stopping only briefly to ask Cozen a question about the thing sitting on top of his pie. "Sorry Coz." He stands at the bar sipping on his fresh beverage as he notices sparky working diligently at the side of the common room. Sparky finishes setting up the new entertainment system as JadeHand walks over and opens up a DVD, starts a movie and sits back to watch "Spaceballs". Perhaps not too surprisingly, Schwartz strolls over to watch as well.*
