Multiple personality time....

The Neo-Con Chrisisall:
What do you want? We should emasculate our effort in Iraq to rid the world of terrorists to deploy the troops in America to defend it's ports? They'd build up and use their numerous WMD's to launch an even bigger assault on us that we could not repell! Stay the course with GW and love your country, pinko!

The Liberal tree-hugging Chrisisall:
The Bush administration wants us all dead, or in control under a form of fascism cloaked in the garb of 'Democracy'.

The Mal-like perspective Chrisisall:
In The Fifth Element Gary Oldman said that a little destruction caused growth, and a sense of purpose. Look at all the jobs and contracts that 911 (and Katrina) has spawned. They may not be inviting another attack, but it would stimulate more construction, and legitimize more military intervention world-wide.
Growth, after all, is painfull.
Or at least, that's how they see it from the top...

All sides POV Chrisisall

Frankly, this is the most reassuring of the various responses of the Bush administration.

I've heard that it would take an anual investment of around 2 billion dollars to secure our ports completely against WMDs. Every year, the U.S. government spends around 98 million for port security. Meanwhile, last year, Bush signed a bill that gave the oil industry $2 billion (the oil industry makes $9 billion in pure profit every quarter; 1 quarter= 3 months)

There have been no attacks since 9/11. While securing the ports and borders is an ongoing issue, the failure of the enemy to, as yet, exploit these alleged weaknesses is proof of the effectiveness of the broader strategy in the war on terror.

Its like pulling the goalie in a hockey game. If your opponant can't get a shot off, you don't really need that goalie at all. Sure, its a bad idead to leave the goal unattended, but not that bad.

It is NOT proof of our border strategy's effectiveness! I have relatives in Homeland Security that tell me that there are always terrorists that make it in through our border, whether it's through our ports, Canada, or Mexico. They have been taking advantage of this weakness. The only reason they haven't attacked is because the FBI has started to pull its head out of its pi-gu and track them down. To use your analogy, it's like letting the hockey puck get two inches from the net before stepping on it. That's a dangerous game, because, someday, they're going to miss the puck. When that day comes, we'll see how "wonderful" you think our border strategy is.

You're welcome on my boat. God ain't.

Lets see. During the American Civil War the Canadian border was completely unguarded. The Confederacy could have marched an army of a million men down from Canada and won the whole thing. Guess that made the entire Northern strategy completely worthless regardless of the fact the circumstances had made such an act impossible and that the South lost the war.

Border and port security are part of the whole thing, like a big machine or 10,000 piece puzzle and as a whole it has been working so far.

Can we improve some parts? Yes. But perhaps a good strategy includes recognizing one's weaknesses and finding ways to carry on despite them or until those weakenesses can be effectively addressed. Thats what Bush has done. Most notably the war is in Iraq, not on America's borders. That situation may not last, but for now thats what's going on.

I don't think we will ever be "completely" secure. Not ever. BUT there are some things we should be doing that we're currently not doing:

1) Get out of Iraq. And stop making enemies unless we absolutely have to.
2) Improve port and border security. Make it a government- not a commercial- function. And give them more $$$ to work with.
3) Require nuclear power plants, chemical plant and other vulnerable commercial targets to improve security. (Very little has been done because it's a bottom line issue. And the administration- ever solicitous to corporations- hasn't pushed.)
4) Improve first-responder funding. As I understand it, the Feds actually REDUCED funding for police and firemen. We still don't have a nation-wide, multi-agency single-frequency emergency system. Our emergency rooms are closing down one after another thanks to insurance companies bleeding our health care system dry. Look at the response to Katrina, and you'll get a good pciture of what the response would be to a major terrorist attack.

Recognizing weaknesses is all well and good, but if you have the ability to fix those weaknesses and you don't, then you are a fool. Oh, wait, that's right, we're talkin' about Dubya and co.

Your Civil War analogy is flawed in that, while the Confederate States of America didn't have the capability to come through different borders, these people DO. They have the ability to hop on a jet liner and go to Canada or Mexico, or (if they want to take a little more of a risk) the U.S. The Confederates didn't (and if they did, you can bet your ass that Lee would have tried it).

As for Iraq, show me how that has made us any safer. If anything, Iraq has made us more vulnerable, because 1) it's sucking up funds that could go to protecting the U.S., 2)our military is now stretched to the breaking point. and 3) Our presence in the Middle East is vindicating the extremists in the eyes of the normal Muslims, creating even more terrorists.

I'm not saying that we should pull out of Iraq, because, now that we're there, we need to finish what we've started for the sake of the people there. Contrary to what the majority of the American Media would have us believe, we have done a lot of good. We've built schools, power plants, roads, and other things vital for a nation's infrastructure. If we pull out now, that all goes down the toilet. What I am saying is that it certainly hasn't made us any safer. However, if we were to put some extra money into our border security, we would be better off.

You're welcome on my boat. God ain't.

Well, while that's technically correct, it's also somewhat incorrect.

Several years ago I read an article in either "Great Battles" or "Military History" magazine (probably in the late 1980's or early 1990's) about Sir Garnet Wolseley (1833-1913). He was one of Britain's greatest military strategists -- and I believe was undefeated in more than 40 years of active service. The reason many people haven't heard of him is that he had no Napoleon to confront.

As many of you probably know, the Confederate States were trying to get Britain as an ally in the American Civil War. At one point, the British got tired of the U.S. federal fleet stopping their ships enroute to the confederacy, so they very nearly entered the war (particularly in regard to the seizing of the "Trent"). What a lot of people don't know, is how the Prince consort stepped in and offered up a solution which would allow both sides (the U.S. and Great Britain) to back down from a declaration of war without losing face.

I'm convinced this saved the U.S. from being split in two.

According to the article, Sir Garnet Wolseley was in Candada with thousands of British regulars, ready to invade the U.S. from the north. Only Prince Albert's quick compromise kept the countries from going war. In my opinion, if the British had invaded the U.S. from Canada, while we were simultaneously combating the Confederacy in the south and the west, we would've been crushed. Wolseley could've practically siezed all of the north's major cities without a fight.

So, in actuality, while the Confederacy (in and of itself) didn't have the capacity to invade from Canada, their "almost" ally did (and was ready to).

Regarding the current border situation, yes, I think it's been shamefully handled, myself. However, I believe it would be a near impossible task to completely secure our borders -- land, sea or air. However, that being said, I believe there's a lot of room for improvement -- and I do believe we have the technology to do a much better job than we're apparently doing.

Unfortunately, the current immigration fiasco is not going to help. While I'm all for immigration (all of my ancestors immigrated to this country) --- I'm totally against illegal immigration (all of my ancestors came here legally).

While certain factions of our government continue bow at the altar of "illegal immigration", we'll never secure our borders.

PN, you're wearing out my scroll bar.

Personally, if we really have to close our borders up solid to feel secure, if we have to clamp everything down to a police state - hell, we lose, ya know.

We need to quit inspiring legions of fanatics to hate us so much they're willing to commit suicide and commit attrocities to prove it. If we can't do that, then we deserve to lose. We're doing real things to make them hate us. We might not understand it exactly, but we'd better figure it out, and quick.

USA is currently under attack by invasion from a foreign nation, but the front lines are now moved so far inward so that it is essentially a Civil War. Especially when you considered the traitors who hijacked the white House, Congress, all state legislatures and most county commissions and city councils, that welcome illegal criminal alien invaders with billions of our taxdollars, in violation of their oaths of office to represent The People and enforce The Law.

Quote:

FORGET ABOUT CIVIL WAR IN IRAQ, ONE IS COMING TO AMERICA

By Pastor Chuck Baldwin
NewsWithViews.com
April 11, 2006

While American troops are hunkered down in "safe zones" in Iraq trying to stay out of an escalating civil war, our government seems oblivious to a growing threat of civil war right here in the United States. As anyone can see, millions of illegal aliens living here are becoming more vocal, more demonstrative, more belligerent, and more violence-prone by the day. Unless our government takes deliberate and significant action immediately, America could be in for serious civil unrest real soon.

It is absolutely incredible that our government would tolerate people who are not even legal residents of our country to generate the kind of mass demonstrations and protests that we are witnessing on a daily basis! It is more than incredible; it is outrageous!

According to The Christian Science Monitor (April 10, 2006), immigrants (most of them illegal) are "mobilizing for major 'action.'" Nearly 100 American cities will soon feel the brunt of this "action."

Organizers describe these coming demonstrations as "the biggest social movement of Hispanics since the United Farm Workers of Cesar Chavez." In addition, organizers predict that thousands of Muslims will also join millions of illegal Hispanics on what can only be regarded as an anti-America crusade.

The American people need to understand that the United States is under attack! No, not by Iraq or Iran, but by Mexico! Yes, Martha, you had better believe it. The Mexican government is deliberately and systematically working to destabilize and undermine the very fabric and framework of American society. And President George W. Bush and Senators John McCain and Ted Kennedy (among others) are aiding and abetting this effort.

Right now, much of Latin America is embroiled in a serious takeover by Leftist-Marxists. In all likelihood, Mexico's next leader will be an open Leftist. Vicente Fox has helped create an increased appetite for socialism (not that Mexico ever had a true understanding of freedom and republicanism), and the next Mexican leader is certain to finish the job.

However, Fox has done more than turn his own country leftward. He has superintended over the biggest invasion of the United States in our country's history. That's right, invasion! A close, personal friendship with President George W. Bush has given Fox the opportunity to purposely allow (or even send) millions of criminals, thugs, anarchists, and potential terrorists to swarm over our southern border in breathtaking numbers. (As I have chronicled before in this column, nearly half of all illegal aliens currently living in the U.S. came here since Bush became president in 2000.)

Yet, while Mexican President Fox encourages and even promotes massive illegal immigration to the U.S., his own country's constitution in Chapter 3, Article 33, states, "The Executive of the Union has the exclusive right to expel from the national territo

This manifestation will result from the general reactionary movement which will follow the destruction of Christianity and atheism, both conquered and exterminated at the same time."

Okay, I find this amusing. How does some guy in 1871 know the specific layout of world history in the future? The word "Nazi" hadn't been invented yet. None of the world wars' outcomes were certain. The world didn't give a damn about the Zionists at that time. The communist takeover in Russia was far from certain as well. Hell, the Prussians hadn't even gone to war with France yet which would cause the tangled chain of alliances that was the true cause of the first world war. I must ask, from where in the depths of your crazy, paranoid ass did you pull this?

You just can't see the truth. Go to your kitchen. Take out a large roll of aluminum foil, and fold it into the shape of a triangular hat. Place it on your head. Then, stop drinking tapwater (the flouride gets you every time). Lock yourself away from human contact for several months (preferrably in your mother's basement).

Only then shall the truth set you free.

I actually watched what happened to PN happen to a friend of mine 20 odd years ago. He would find some new conspiracy theory come around to my place and prattle on about it. His big thing was numbers, he had this theory that there was a specific number "programmed" into every person --- like the starship overide codes in Startrek. Once you had a person's number you could override control on them and make them do what you wanted.

He was convinced that various pieces of the media, TV shows, songs, where transmitting variations of his "number" trying to find the last 5 digits and seize control of his brain. There was a time that he honestly thought Belinda Carlisle was out to turn him into a robot for THEM.

I have, thanks to him, seen almost every wacked out theory you can name. You look at PN's prattle and you can see where he gets his ideas from, how they mutated and merged from older conspiracies.

Conspiracy theories have several elements, one is as Finn said the need for ballence between the protagonists, another is fear and helplessness but there is a lot of ego in there too. PN believes he's the only one that sees the truth, and because of magical thinking he believes that "seeing" the truth gives him power over it. It's a little like the occult belief that if you know the true name of a demon you can control it.

In reality if his British-Nazi-alien-Jews really ran the world with the iron hand he claims and with the tech he supposes PN would be dead by now. A gun a dog and a night light could hardly protect him. They could machine gun his car and nobody would investigate (action against a known terrorist move along...) or they could turn any of PN's friends family or associates into an MKULTRA wind up assasin toy and just kill him.

He doesnt see that, doesnt even view it as a threat, even though if you follow through on his logic that would be that THEY would do. Why doesnt he see a problem? Because he knows about THEM he has the name of the beast and consequently he somehow feels that that saves him. The fact this defies all logic is lost on him because to think that through stands the risk of revealing two unpaletables.

1) If they do exist then he's too insignificantg to bother with.
2) They don't exists and he's delusional.

oldenglanddry,

I've dealt (in an official capacity) with your friend's conspiracy clone. It took me down a labyrinth of websites ALL dealing with chemtrails. Hard to believe but there are a lot of people all fixated on that very thing. It's WAY past a folie a deux.

Nearly everything I know I learned by the grace of others.

Hmm,
Maybe the real conspiracy is to get people to fixate on conspiracies.

That's kind of what I was getting at. PN is a neo-con plant.
