Well, while that's technically correct, it's also somewhat incorrect.

Several years ago I read an article in either "Great Battles" or "Military History" magazine (probably in the late 1980's or early 1990's) about Sir Garnet Wolseley (1833-1913). He was one of Britain's greatest military strategists -- and I believe was undefeated in more than 40 years of active service. The reason many people haven't heard of him is that he had no Napoleon to confront.

At one point, the British got tired of the U.S. federal fleet stopping their ships enroute to the confederacy, so they very nearly entered the war (particularly in regard to the seizing of the "Trent"). What a lot of people don't know, is how the Prince consort stepped in and offered up a solution which would allow both sides (the U.S. and Great Britain) to back down from a declaration of war without losing face.

I'm convinced this saved the U.S. from being split in two.

According to the article, Sir Garnet Wolseley was in Candada with thousands of British regulars, ready to invade the U.S. from the north. Only Prince Albert's quick compromise kept the countries from going war. In my opinion, if the British had invaded the U.S. from Canada, while we were simultaneously combating the Confederacy in the south and the west, we would've been crushed. Wolseley could've practically siezed all of the north's major cities without a fight.

So, in actuality, while the Confederacy (in and of itself) didn't have the capacity to invade from Canada, their "almost" ally did (and was ready to).

Regarding the current border situation, yes, I think it's been shamefully handled, myself. However, I believe it would be a near impossible task to completely secure our borders -- land, sea or air. However, that being said, I believe there's a lot of room for improvement -- and I do believe we have the technology to do a much better job than we're apparently doing.

Unfortunately, the current immigration fiasco is not going to help. While I'm all for immigration (all of my ancestors immigrated to this country) --- I'm totally against illegal immigration (all of my ancestors came here legally).

While certain factions of our government continue bow at the altar of "illegal immigration", we'll never secure our borders.

Personally, if we really have to close our borders up solid to feel secure, if we have to clamp everything down to a police state - hell, we lose, ya know.

Organizers describe these coming demonstrations as "the biggest social movement of Hispanics since the United Farm Workers of Cesar Chavez." In addition, organizers predict that thousands of Muslims will also join millions of illegal Hispanics on what can only be regarded as an anti-America crusade.

The American people need to understand that the United States is under attack! No, not by Iraq or Iran, but by Mexico! Yes, Martha, you had better believe it. The Mexican government is deliberately and systematically working to destabilize and undermine the very fabric and framework of American society. And President George W. Bush and Senators John McCain and Ted Kennedy (among others) are aiding and abetting this effort.

Right now, much of Latin America is embroiled in a serious takeover by Leftist-Marxists. In all likelihood, Mexico's next leader will be an open Leftist. Vicente Fox has helped create an increased appetite for socialism (not that Mexico ever had a true understanding of freedom and republicanism), and the next Mexican leader is certain to finish the job.
