I actually watched what happened to PN happen to a friend of mine 20 odd years ago. He would find some new conspiracy theory come around to my place and prattle on about it. His big thing was numbers, he had this theory that there was a specific number "programmed" into every person --- like the starship overide codes in Startrek. Once you had a person's number you could override control on them and make them do what you wanted.
He was convinced that various pieces of the media, TV shows, songs, where transmitting variations of his "number" trying to find the last 5 digits and seize control of his brain. There was a time that he honestly thought Belinda Carlisle was out to turn him into a robot for THEM.
I have, thanks to him, seen almost every wacked out theory you can name. You look at PN's prattle and you can see where he gets his ideas from, how they mutated and merged from older conspiracies.
Conspiracy theories have several elements, one is as Finn said the need for ballence between the protagonists, another is fear and helplessness but there is a lot of ego in there too. PN believes he's the only one that sees the truth, and because of magical thinking he believes that "seeing" the truth gives him power over it. It's a little like the occult belief that if you know the true name of a demon you can control it.
In reality if his British-Nazi-alien-Jews really ran the world with the iron hand he claims and with the tech he supposes PN would be dead by now. A gun a dog and a night light could hardly protect him. They could machine gun his car and nobody would investigate (action against a known terrorist move along...) or they could turn any of PN's friends family or associates into an MKULTRA wind up assasin toy and just kill him.
He doesnt see that, doesnt even view it as a threat, even though if you follow through on his logic that would be that THEY would do. Why doesnt he see a problem? Because he knows about THEM he has the name of the beast and consequently he somehow feels that that saves him. The fact this defies all logic is lost on him because to think that through stands the risk of revealing two unpaletables.
1) If they do exist then he's too insignificantg to bother with.
2) They don't exists and he's delusional.

FLECH2 -
Those were very wise words and I wish I had written them.
I have a friend like yours, his big deal is Chemtrails.
The sad, REALY sad thing is that any minute now PN will be back with exactly the same repetitive rhetoric as if nothing happened.

oldenglanddry,
I've dealt (in an official capacity) with your friend's conspiracy clone. It took me down a labyrinth of websites ALL dealing with chemtrails. Hard to believe but there are a lot of people all fixated on that very thing. It's WAY past a folie a deux.
Nearly everything I know I learned by the grace of others.

Hmm,
Maybe the real conspiracy is to get people to fixate on conspiracies.

That's kind of what I was getting at. PN is a neo-con plant.
